Hi everyone! It's been a minute, but I am back again to give my thoughts on Geiger (2024) #2, where I think the story goes from here, and what I think is in store for the Unnamed after this issue. I hope that you enjoy reading this post! To keep in continuity with my previous posts, below will be the current Unnamed timeline that is at the end of each of the solo series.

Geiger (2024) #2 Thoughts
Like last issue, I felt as though this was a strong issue that helped to continue the narrative in an effective and entertaining way. What can I say about the art that I haven't said in the past. Frank and Anderson are like prime MJ and Pippen when it comes to the art in these books. Issue #2 is no exception, this issue sees dynamic character designs and action set pieces which have become par for the course within the world of the Unnamed.
This issue has strong themes that tie into each other from start to finish. I felt as though Geiger's character arc was developed quite nicely in this issue. Moreover, getting to learn more of why Nate decided to tag along with Geiger and where his motivations helped me to empathize with his character more. I enjoyed the development that we got for him this issue, and it makes him more of an interesting character than Geiger's sidekick. I am excited to see where Geiger and Nate's relationship goes from here.
Some Takeaways Moving Forward
The name of the other person with Geiger's ability is revealed. His name is Ash Arden, and his last known whereabouts are Lewistown, Montana.
Geiger is still considered a monster in many parts of the United States in spite of his actions with the King.
Even though Geiger's rods dampen his powers, if he gets emotional enough they can flare up even.
The Electrician's face is revealed. See below:

My Speculation on What's to Come from Geiger (2024)
From this issue it is safe to say that we are nearing Geiger and company come to blows with the Electrician. Furthermore, from my last post which you can find here, we know that Geiger and company will meet up Junkyard Joe. With these two thoughts in mind, I think that either issue #3 or #4 will be where we see the Electrician fight Geiger.
From what little we know of the Electrician, I think that he will give Geiger, Barney, and Nate some trouble, and Joe will will come in last minute at the end of the chapter and help them to defeat him. This would help to make the villains in the Founding Fathers more formidable and help to not make Geiger an over powered character.
I could also see Joe's inclusion in the upcoming issue being similar to the Electrician's, with him following Geiger's path, but he ultimately gets captured or stopped because we know from his story's epilogue at the end of Geiger: Ground Zero #2 that Geiger, Redcoat, and the Northerner will all meet up sometime in the (near) future and try to recruit Joe in a previous moment. Moreover, we know that Geiger will learn of who started the Unknown War, try to tell Joe at an unknown time and date, but vanishes as he is about to make the reveal.
So whatever capacity Joe is seen in the next issue, I would not hold my breath that he will join Geiger, Nate, and Barney in their quest to find a cure for Geiger's condition given everything we know of the story so far.
Conclusion
Overall, this was a great continuation of last months issue! Geiger never ceases to disappoint me and this issue was further proof of that notion. The plot thickens as Geiger and co now have a name for the other Glowing Man that was cured and their chase continues to find his cure. We got to see the Electrician's face, and I am excited to see how his abilities will stack up with Geiger's. Let's go on a journey together. It's 1997. Final Fantasy VII is about to release, and you don't know a thing about it except you saw this picture in some magazine and thought "Wow, what a cutie! I hope she's the love interest!".
On this journey, we are going to track how good you feel about that statement as you play through Final Fantasy VII. You're a person with pretty good media instincts, you've got your memory card clean and ready for a new save, and you slot in Disk 1 of 3 to begin your adventure as Pink Girl #1 Fan.
TL;DR: It's Tifa, but you didn't start out thinking that.

Part 1: Can't Stop Winning

...Things are looking great! It just so happens Pink Girl is the very first character you see in the game. Writers use the order of character introduction to convey the relative importance of the cast. Someone introduced among the first (or among the last) of a main cast often imply they are among the most important. What's more, this is often extended to a concept called First Girl Wins, where the first girl our hero meets is the love interest.
You play through the game, sticking with the default name choice of Cloud, learning a bit about our cold mercenary hero. He's a cool guy, and he's only in this for the money--although you can probably guess he'll be pulled into the emotional stakes before long. While there is one other girl who technically meet Cloud first, you can judge from her design that she's just a sidekick character with little prominence, especially when compared with her leader, Barret's far more unique and interesting look. So she can be rather disregarded as a non-love interest type.
And, just as you hoped, Pink Girl ends up being the first potential love interest Cloud meets! They even get a little Meet Cute, complete with the little awkwardness and surprise these meetings often have. You may be surprised to find there's a bit of a dialogue system when it comes to her, allowing you, as the player, to ignore her. But you're Pink Girl #1 Fan, so of course you choose to talk with her a bit before you go on your way.
But a bit of a curveball: once you make it to the Sector 7 Slums, you meet another girl, Tifa, this time with a unique design. What's worse, she's Cloud's childhood friend. That's worrying--childhood friend romances are pretty common, especially in Japanese media. You're a bit relieved that instead of getting her own unique introduction, she is introduced aside a little girl character as well, and among a group of characters you already know. It seems the game is downplaying her relative importance, highlighted by the fact you have the choice to give the flower you bought from Pink Girl to either her or the little girl... and you'll probably be naturally inclined to give it to the little girl, since giving Tifa the flower is a bit forward and you just inadvertently scared the little girl.
You are given a moment to talk to Tifa alone. This is definitely an important moment in understanding the point of her character--it's here you'd expect the game to establish whether she should be perceived as an actual love interest to Cloud or not. And, you, Pink Girl #1 Fan, are relieved. Cloud is standoffish towards her, eager to leave even without waiting for payment. Tifa tries to appeal to him on the basis of their past relationship, and that doesn't work. Finally Tifa has to remind him about some promise they made--a promise that Cloud notably forgot. All-in-all, the writing seems to be communicating to us "Cloud is very important to Tifa, but Tifa is less important to Cloud". Based on what you've learned about the game so far, the most likely role for Tifa to take is as a love rival, not a love interest herself.
You will go on a mission with her and Barret, but won't spend too much personal time with her there. There was some optional flirtatious lines, but, again, being so forward it feels a bit unnatural to pick them. You've yet to see further sign of Pink Girl, but are finally rewarded for your patience with yet another Meet Cute! That's right, Pink Girl--who you now know is named Aeris--is so important she gets three unique introductions, and two Meet Cutes! The third is, appropriately, the most substantial, set in what is so far the only beautiful place you've seen in the game. When Aeris comes under threat, you might note a pretty significant change in our hero's attitude. Instead of his usual "pay me now!" approach, he implicitly agrees to protect Aeris with no more promise than a single date. Cloud is also much more light-hearted, he jokes, and laughs, and seems to suddenly open up a bit more to Aeris than he did even to his childhood friend Tifa.
So far, it's looking great! Pretty much case closed, right? All signs point to Aeris as the main love interest, Tifa as the love rival. You'll get to spend a whole sequence basically going on a date with Aeris (to save Tifa, but still, that's just the pretext for Aeris time), with multiple NPCs commenting about how couple-y you look. Then, when Aeris is kidnapped, Cloud immediately jumps forward wanting to rescue her! No talking about money at all, he seems to finally be invested in emotional stakes the way you thought he would earlier, and it's all thanks to Aeris! If you had to guess what Tifa's character arc is going to be, it's probably going to be about letting go of Cloud as this idyllic memory of a childhood love, accepting her defeat gracefully and finding happiness elsewhere. Our hero and heroine will reveal the extent of their feelings together, defeat the bad guy, save the Planet and--!
And...?
Uh...

Part 2: Sorry, What?

...did the love interest just... die? That can't be right? It's weirdly final though. She gets stabbed. The villain gloats. The hero mourns. The heroine doesn't even get to say any parting words of love to the hero... and you still have two disks left! Surely there's a way to bring her back, this really can't be happening. Love interests do sometimes die, but usually early in the story, or towards the end, but right in the middle of the story? She's got to come back.
But the heroes seem to be moving on a bit fast. The love interest is dead! The entire mood of the story should shift now towards grim determination... so how come you're snowboarding??? Ok maybe she's going to come back really soon, so they're not bothering to have the characters grieve. You have your chance to confront the villain again, this is the perfect time for the hero to wax poetic about his lost love and remind everyone exactly what he's fighting for... so, hey, what's with this?

But, Tifa...... But you said, 'Long time no see, Cloud' right? Those words will always support me. I am the one you grew up with. I'm Cloud of Nibelheim. No matter how much I lose faith in myself, that is the truth. That's why you shouldn't be so scared. No matter what anyone else says to me, it's your attitude that counts...

...Sorry. Especially you, Tifa. I'm really sorry. You've been so good to me...... I don't know what to say... I never lived up to being 'Cloud'. Tifa...... Maybe one day you'll meet the real 'Cloud'.

Now it's time to be really thrown off base. Cloud and Tifa are placed together by the story to share revelation after revelation, and Cloud suddenly starts talking about the importance of Tifa and her feelings to him...? How is this appropriate for the romance as you understood it? Aeris still isn't back! She doesn't even get mentioned in this scene!
And then, after all those revelations, Cloud disappears and Disk 1 ends...

Part 3: Uh oh.

...and you start playing as Tifa? That mood shift you thought ought to have happened after Aeris' death instead happens now. This is really worrying. The game isn't treating Aeris' death as the emotional axis point for our hero, but rather, the hero's identity crisis. You're playing as Tifa now, and the party is spending more time assuring Tifa about Cloud, being concerned about Tifa's well being, than they spent mourning Aeris. You're spending more time with character work on Tifa here than you even spent on Cloud! When Tifa finds Cloud again, she sticks with him, and the NPCs are all remarking on how devoted and in love she is.
Being the kind of genre it is, this doesn't look great for you, Pink Girl #1 Fan. You already know Tifa has feelings for Cloud, and now the game is going out of its way to highlight how devoted she is, how deeply she cares for him on unprecedented levels in the narrative. Aeris never got anything like this. What exactly is the point here? Sure, Tifa is a love rival, but you don't need to literally play as her to get this point across. Aeris is dead, there's no reason for the player to be asked to start caring about Tifa this much. I mean, you already know that Cloud doesn't care about Tifa as much as she cares about him, he didn't even remember this important promise they made together, and it's not like he has memory iss-- uh oh.
Tifa and Cloud take a dip into the Lifestream together, and all of those narrative tools the writers had been using earlier seem to collapse under the weight of freshly revealed context:

• Aeris being the First Girl? Nope, you get a new flashback depicting Cloud meeting Tifa again right before the beginning of the game and jumpstarting the whole plot. Her voice was what brought him back!
• Cloud not remembering this promise? Nope, literally memory issues, this promise is actually so important to him it's why he left to become a SOLDIER... double jumpstarting the plot! Tifa is twice again the reason this story is happening!
• Cloud not putting as much importance on his relationship with Tifa? Nope, it's the most formative aspect about his life, every personality quirk of his is tied directly to his relationship and feelings with Tifa.
• Cloud leaving Tifa without waiting to be paid? He's under a mental compulsion from Jenova/Sephiroth without knowing it.
• Cloud "opening up" to Aeris but not Tifa? If you choose to go back and play Disk 1 from the beginning, you'll be bombarded by all the double layers present in basically all of Cloud, Tifa, and Aeris' interactions among each other. Continuing to play Disk 2/3 will have NPCs encourage you to treat Tifa well, have basically no mention of Aeris at all, and have a culminating emotional scene between Cloud and Tifa, potentially with sex.
Wait, Aeris' hand is reaching through the Lifestream, they might be reunit--! Oh wait it's Tifa again. Tifa, once again, saves Cloud, with even the fantasy of Aeris' presence being replaced by the reality of Tifa's.
If you're playing the English version, you might latch onto one of the final pieces of dialogue about Cloud saying he's going to meet "her" in the Promised Land--but if you're playing the Japanese version, this isn't as exciting, since there's no "she" pronoun in the sentence. Instead it's our hero and heroine holding eachother while the heroine's theme plays and the hero comforts her about their potentially impending death.

Forgive my wordiness, I've been wanting to build a PC since 2017, finally have the money to do so, and want it to be the best given current state-of-the-art components. This prebuilt got me through college and the last couple years, but it's time for a significant upgrade to carry me well into the future. I want to use the computer for years to come.

Looking for a workhorse PC for the following usage categories:

• General Life Tasks (approx 20% of usage)
• Engineering (approx 30% of usage, but is likely to significantly increase as I invest more time into projects and expand my knowledge/application base)
• Gaming (approx 50% of usage, likely to decrease due to reasons above, but still an important part of my life, and I want quality)

Specifics of each usage category:

• General Life Tasks (~20%)
  • Description - all I really mean by this is day-to-day web browsing, video/Netflix/etc. streaming, Microsoft Office Applications, etc. Think all the basic life related things you would need to use a computer for (personal budgets, setting up insurance, online banking/investing, planning vacations, photo storage, etc...). This should be a cakewalk for the computer, given the specs needed for the other two usage categories.
  • Programs and Computer Features Used:
    • General internet browser (Chrome, FF, etc.), email
    • Spotify, YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc.
    • Excel, Word, Lots of OneNote
    • As a side note, if anyone has any note taking apps they really like, please let me know. I like OneNote since I use it at my engineering job, but I know there are some really good applications out there.
• Engineering (~30%, to increase)
  • Description - I am a trained mechanical engineer with a passion for engineering design. I have lots of ideas for various projects I want to complete within the fields of mechanical eng, electrical eng, computer science, etc. I plan to use this computer as a tool to complete these projects - whether its for the planning/logistical side or technical, number-crunching side of design engineering. Lots of "multi-tasking" is done during these projects, so I want the computer to swiftly and efficiently handle these tasks concurrently (within reason, of course).
  • Programs and Computer Features Used:
    • CAD (Computer Aided Design) - Fusion360 now, would love to upgrade to a more robust CAD package at some point
    • 3D Printing/Slicing software - I currently have a Prusa i3 MK3S+ and related software
    • Other Manufacturing softwares - none used yet, but think laser cutting, CNC machining, etc.
    • Engineering Softwares - Matlab, Arduino, COMSOL, CAD-based simulation (FEA, CFD), etc.
    • Coding - VS Code, Equation solvers, etc. I'm a Python enjoyer, but can dabble in most common languages.
    • Other - Excel, Word, PDFs, OneNote, videos
• Gaming (~50%, to decrease)
  • Description - Casual gaming with my friends has been, and continues to be, an important part of my life since childhood. Ever since 2017, I've wanted to build a PC for crisp gaming, but that has obviously changed to include engineering usage too. I want the games I play to run smoothly and look beautiful. There's also potential I'd want to explore map/game design (think Black Ops 3 custom maps).
  • Programs and Computer Features Used:
    • Discord, streaming - only to friends through something like Discord, I do not want nor plan to become a streamer :)
    • Steam, battle.net, riot, etc.
    • Oculus/VR - I have a Quest, but don't really use it much. This would be more of a bonus to include.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
Looking around $3,000-4,000. If there is a significant argument to bump up components based on my usage categories above (i.e. 4080 Super vs 4090), that is fine. I plan to use this PC for years to come, am treating it as an investment, and want quality and performance.
I know it is against the rules to say "No budget! Give me the best!" but that's honestly what I'm looking for here. From what I've seen, anything over $4,000 is really just overkill cost wise for the small bumps in performance, but you all are the experts :)
When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Soon. I'd say within a week of this post, the replies, and any follow-up. I have a friend at Microcenter out east (PA, USA) who I've been discussing the build with and can hook me up with shipping/rebate deals as applicable. Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Always been curious about overclocking both GPU and CPU, but I don't know what I'd use that for yet. Would happen down the line, and I'd be a newbie at it.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc).

• Lots of storage for games, engineering files, photos. SSDs are a must. I don't want to be tearing the beast apart to add more storage unless absolutely necessary.
  • I've heard that installing your OS on a solely dedicated SSD is ideal for performance, not sure if that's the case at all. Looking for guidance there.
• I want to eventually bump my main monitor up to 1440p (maybe 4k if I'm feeling crazy), 144+ Hz refresh. Generally, just want top-of-the-line graphics for games.
• Liquid cooling
• Prefer Intel, as I've heard it handles multicore processing better for all the multitasking the computer will do (i.e. i9-14900K, etc.), but I'm by no means a processor expert.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
I believe a mid-tower will suffice for my application, but please advise if not. I want the case to get lots of airflow to ensure components are running smoothly and cool. Total LxWxH size is not really a problem, although, I don't want a server tower sitting in my bedroom :)
I'd like to be able to see into the computer (glass side panel). Color-wise, I'm going for low-profile, black. RGB/LED is not a huge concern, but would definitely be welcome (a little color never hurt anybody). If RGB/LED is included, I'd like to have as much control over the colors/flashing/etc. as possible. It would be nice to see the internals lit up, but not a key priority.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

My great-aunt and great-uncle were very religious and would always get me Christian books, so these were likely from a niche press. I would have been reading them some time between 1997 and 2003 and I believe they were being released as I was reading them. Recently, I was lucky to have been given some good advice here, and Especially great advice from Canyouread7, that went into some nice detail and reasons for designing this build! ... I still listed almost everything he suggested, just as a reference, but I'm looking for additional suggestions about : 1. Liquid/aio cooling vs the original fan design 2. Processor of similar or better performance of what's listed below, but with 24+ cores 3. 128GB mem of type listed below, unless a similar or better type is suggested 4. Case suggestion that will fit well with it all and not cause noticable added sound interference, but ALSO look exquisite, so people can see it's value! 🤓👍
