2024.05.14 00:38 Velvettehashtagbitch Just a prophecy from my fanfic in sonnet form

What broke a code, gathered for sweet revenge
A Clan of blood, first coming for the wind
Come from a once disgraced sky’s lost stonehenge
On night of bloodied moon, it will begin
Led again by Clan’s scourge and berry, red
Five ancient Clans of lake, taken over
Through invasion, the Clan of stars ends dead
More signs will come, with cloud, stone, and clover
One chance for savior will soon be given
The light of dawn, two names, told by the breeze
Though two minds, with one soul, they are driven
If all signs are fulfilled, it is complete
Blood will soon come upon cats’ lakeside land
And can only be banished by dawn’s Clan

Hey guys PLEASE GIMME YOUR THOUGHTS unpopular opinion: I just watched KPA and I think the writers did a good job with the Eagle clan storyline. Most of us walked into the cinema expecting to carry on from Maurice, Cornelius, Rocket & Lake etc... but this actually made us think because for a second I thought Noa was Cornelius until i got ahold of the names but anyways don't you guys think the humans went to space and that's what he saw on the telescope ...? Instead of just the stars ...that's why maybe when the girl looked through she was just as shocked.

2024.05.13 23:32 PumpkinsVenue Parallels between Elden Ring and Dark Souls 2 according to fans - the gods

Parallels between Elden Ring and Dark Souls 2 according to fans - the gods
I've compiled a list of parallels that fans have drawn between Elden Ring and Dark Souls 2, along with brief commentaries and illustrations on the patterns they may have observed.
https://preview.redd.it/rf3iddqmh90d1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=6dcbeb73ef5011e8ac1d0906c3efc5daad3f8382
"The game is called the Elden Ring and it's a sequel to a video game that came out a few years ago called Dark Souls, My work on it was actually done years ago. These games, they're like movies, they take a long time to develop." - George R.R. Martin
He [George Martin] actually knew about the Dark Souls games. He was aware of them and what they were about, so that made me happy. That sort of gave me a little bit of a boost. I knew immediately from talking to him, it just became apparent his skill and his passion for the fantasy genre, and for games as well. - Hidetaka Miyazaki
“I can't deny the fact that, maybe down the line, I want to go back to the [Dark Souls] series and make one more game before I retire. I don't want to be branded a liar if that happens.” - Hidetaka Miyazaki
Dark Souls 2 probably bears the Souls series’ closest resemblance to Elden Ring. Design wise, both Dark Souls 2 and Elden Ring stressed open-ended gameplay and ditched linear progression.
Miyazaki agrees and in fact goes a step further. “In regards to Dark Souls 2, I actually personally think this was a really great project for us, and I think without it, we wouldn’t have had a lot of the connections and a lot of the ideas that went forward and carried the rest of the series. We were able to have that different impetus and have those different ideas and make those different connections that we otherwise might not have had.” He goes so far as to say that “there’s really no way of telling how or if the series would have continued the way it did without Dark Souls 2.” Hidetaka Miyazaki
https://preview.redd.it/c1l0ai2qh90d1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=d04121342a939c455bdc3981526a1ef66e88ea48
Elden Ring was co-directed by Yui Tanimura who is the director of Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin.
"There are countless vestiges of long-lost gods in the ruins of Drangleic. Or perhaps they are the very same gods as ours, only known by different names."
I’ve seen people make comparison with the deities mentioned on the Name-engraved Ring list. (although the one they made about Ranni didn’t make sense to me and seem to be more relevant to the Gloam-Eyed Queen if anything).
https://preview.redd.it/kk5x27yth90d1.png?width=1640&format=png&auto=webp&s=821ee94090b83e3b5f63470ac3fcb1ef30ad771d
St. Trina and Miquella from Elden Ring share striking similarities with Quella, the deity of dreams dreams from Dark Souls 2, and Nehma, the goddess of love. Like the latter, Miquella has the power to "compel affection" through the Bewitching Branch. St. Trina and Quella are associated with sleep, trees, and dreams. Miquella shares similarities with Quella, as both are associated with ethereal, dream-like entities like the Nascent Butterfly and White Ring,
Quella’s icon also depicts a boy with wings, which something similar we see Miquella have during Elden Ring’s intro cut scene.
https://preview.redd.it/a1uyuv0xh90d1.png?width=900&format=png&auto=webp&s=c0fa27e5087b6c1ae5f4052fa94608e6a588b8c5
Hanleth is the goddess of bliss. After the war of the erdtree, Marika's reign ushered in an age of plenty when It is said that drops of blessing once dripped boughs forever which gradually restored HP.
In Marika's own words. Hark, brave warriors. Hark, my lord Godfrey. We commend your deeds. Guidance has delivered ye through ordeal to the place ye stand. Put the giants to the sword and confine the flame atop the mount. Let a new epoch begin. An epoch glistening with life. Brandish the Elden Ring, for the Age of the Erdtree! - Melina
Kremmel, god of Struggle.
Lord Radagon was a great champion... He came to these lands at the head of a great golden host, when he met Lady Rennala in battle. He soon repented his territorial aggressions though, and became husband to the Carian Queen. However, when Godfrey, first Elden Lord, was hounded from the Lands Between, Radagon left Rennala to return to the Erdtree Capital. - Miriel, Pastor of Vows
“Solemn duty weighs upon the one beholden; not unlike a gnawing curse from which there is no deliverance” descriptions from both Marika's & Radagon's Soreseals
Queen Marika has high hopes for us. That we continue to struggle. Unto eternity. - Gideon Ofnir
https://preview.redd.it/0tur3izzh90d1.png?width=2528&format=png&auto=webp&s=4e63f98f0a1350762a4de8997dba2dc69e98b16c
Radagon’s thorns
Prevented by the mantle of barbs. The thorns are impenetrable. A husk of the Erdtree's being; that spurns all that exists without. The only way to stand before the Elden Ring...and become the Elden Lord...is to pass the thorns. My purpose serves to aid in that very act. So I'd like you to undertake a new journey, with me. To the flame of ruin, far above the clouds, upon the snow mountaintops of the giants. Then I can set the Erdtree aflame. And guide you. Down the path to becoming Elden Lord. - Melina
“Ring granted protection by Kremmel, god of Struggle. The ring's spikes drive into the wearer's skin, so that each blow fuels spite toward the perpetrator. When damage is taken the ring retaliates and inflicts damage upon enemy.” - Ring of Thorns
https://preview.redd.it/s9vqoo92i90d1.png?width=1700&format=png&auto=webp&s=851342900eedd3d6923e96467b74991ee7dc4bee
Assuming the theories that Mesmer are true, his association with the snake (which is viewed as a traitor to the Erdtree), consumption of dragon hearts, and seeking ultimate power suggest the pursuit for supremacy for his own gain. This aligns with the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring), which depicts the snake, a manifestation of the god of desire, Zinder. The serpent is an imperfect dragon and symbol of the undead. Mesmer's ambition and willingness to embrace forbidden power mirrors the ring's representation of insatiable desire and the undying nature of the serpent.
Rykard from Elden Ring and Zandroe from Dark Souls share a striking similarity - they are both associated with serpents and the concept of greed. Zandroe is described as the "god of greed" whose manifestation and servant is the snake, while Rykard fed himself into a massive "god-devouring serpent" in his pursuit of immortality through devouring others, an act of ultimate greed.

Nahr Alma, the god of blood and a god of war, where Mohg is a demigod and the lord of blood.
Both Mohg and Nahr Alma are divinely associated with blood and have followers who use blood-themed weapons like the Scythe of Nahr Alma. Mohg and Nahr Alma's followers have rejected the world and vow to travel a bloody path. Mohg is the Lord of Blood and seeks to inaugurate a new dynasty, similar to Nahr Alma's influence
https://preview.redd.it/9c9qs347i90d1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=751dd7bc64dab8497a03de36ec265dd9019f58c6
Morgott, the "Fell Omen" 忌み鬼 (Imi Oni) meaning "Abominable Demon#cite_ref-14)." , and highly-ranked clerics of Lindelt from Dark Souls 2 share similarities as holy knights who wield "demonic powers" to castigate those who harbor ambitions for power. Both are feared by their enemies for their ruthless tactics in battle, with Morgott slaughtering countless champions during the Shattering and these clerics of Lindelt use the miracle "Unveil" to reveal the location of traitors.
“Wilful traitors, all. Thy kind are all of a piece. Pillagers. Emboldened by the flame of ambition. Have it writ upon thy meagre grave: Felled by King Morgott! Last of all kings.” Morgott, the Grace-Given.
https://preview.redd.it/k5dmrtw9i90d1.png?width=900&format=png&auto=webp&s=813daad7b1759a5976733b2b0b0cb828edb029da
Godwyn the Golden from Elden Ring and the God of Sun from Dark Souls 2 were revered for their mastery of lightning and their incantations, such as Lightning Spear*,* Dragonbolt Blessing*, and Sacred Oath. Additionally, Godwyn's victory of the ancient dragon Fortissax and his subsequent friendship with the fallen foe gave rise to the* ancient dragon cult in the capital, much like the God of Sun's connection with the Blinding Bolt that was forbidden so to protect the world from hatred, or sorrow, and the ancient clan) whose leader was revered as the deity.

https://preview.redd.it/48erum2ci90d1.png?width=1148&format=png&auto=webp&s=55ffc3756e529ae9c2fd97140d24b617bd320249
The demigod general Radahn and Faraam like Nahr Alma, is a god of war from Dark Souls 2 are both associated with lions, a symbol of strength and ferocity in battle, representing their prowess as mighty warriors. Known for their skill in combat, with Radahn being captivated by the Lord of the Battlefield from a young age, now wields a greatsword in each hand, and the Faraam Knights being feared for their nimble two-handed swordplay.
https://preview.redd.it/whovyokei90d1.png?width=1720&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa1f0618adf2f96b5f9b6ff25851b698e978443d
Galib (I’ve seen it spelled “Calib”) from Dark Souls 2 and Malenia (who released her bloom in Caelid) both have a thematic connection to disease and affliction. Malenia and Miquella, both children of a single god, were afflicted with rot and eternal childhood respectively. Leydia apostles manipulated both the onset and curing of disease but were denied peaceful deaths, while Malenia's rot was an incurable sickness (as her army are undergoing their gradual, putrefaction of their flesh) that Miquella tried to ward off with unalloyed gold needles and her great rune provides healing after receiving damage*.*
Coincidentally Malenia can grow wings as well.

https://preview.redd.it/2cp6naygi90d1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=e0022e8bce8c8fe3336207d3fa4c342b967a93ac
Caffrey, deity of Fortune, and Godfrey the first Elden lord. The name “Frey” might be derived from Nordic mythology. Frey is primarily associated with fertility, prosperity, and abundance.
Caffrey's icon mirrors the currency and EXP icon from Dark Souls 2, representing experience points gained by defeating enemies. In a similar vein, Godfrey is portrayed as the lord of the battlefield, who bravely battled Giants, confronted the Storm Lord and had countless victories, ushering in the Age of the Erdtree which was forged through the use of valuables like Smithing Stones [8], becoming the embodiment of Order. This left a long legacy of loyal warriors honored him by wielding axes like himself.

The hunting Goddess Evlana was no goddess at all, but rather a brave and highly skilled bow huntress. Long after her demise, the passing of lore transformed her into a deity.”
The Hunter's Hat
Spirit of a handsome archer who dressed in the style of a man. Called the Silent Hunter by some, she fires St. Trina's arrows from her shortbow.

2024.05.13 23:30 BloodLifes A big thank you.

Doing a survival run right now. An awesome game, remade by you.
Ty all modders that donate their time remaking the game. Hope you all keep getting fun out of it. Hope you can learn from it and have personal gains from it. Be it work, be it dreams. Be it money, be it fame. Be it whatever. But always be it fun.
Sorry if any rant is ever heard from some of us, we are humans... Even if that same some of us forget that modders are humans too. Forgive them. They are only humans. As we are. Forgive, forget, go ahead happy that you get the highs and are not affected by the lows of the modding scene.
Wished to do a last run, semi vanilla... nostalgia isnt my game, nor your. You won... and made me win along you. Thank you again and again.
Then... lets start... main points of this run: Survival. All quests and skills... patience to do every quest. Here is the core:
{{Survival Mode Improved - SKSE}} Wanted to do a long run and to use the dlc. Got lots of fps back feom vanilla. And good chances. Perfect so far. Thank you Collinswrath.
{{Shadow of Skyrim - Nemesis and Alternative Death System}} Less reloading, more gaming... absolute win... And some sweet vengeance in our adventures. Win win. Even when I do lose. Thank you Syclonix.
{{Know Your Enemy 2}} {{Know Your Enemy 2 - Armors}} {{Know Your Enemy 2 - Integration Patch}} If you dislike to play all the game and beat all enemies with the same 2 favorites, be it spells or weapons... these can make you think to Beatriz someone. Or even turn around and run. I forgot at first... and went from relaxe to desperate. And to laugher momentos later.Lets talk about some other time. Also... {{Exhaustion - Incremental Fatigue}} {{Exercise - Incremental Growth}} They going together with survival males it harder to survive. No one should fight the whole dungeon and arrive at the last boss whole. You are going to me famine, cold and tired from the survival mod, but the tiredness is way better now, you need to sleep to regain your stat regen because you are really tired with exhaustion... but its worth it, with exercise. Train you body and mind enough with these 2 mods, and you can get better in some time. Doesnt this make sente to you? Fot these, and so well integraded with survival ideas, even if you canbuse them withput survival just as fine... Thank you tjhm4.
{{Hand Placed Enemies - More populated spawns dungeons and POIs}} How are the fights fun if I do know everyone that is going to get in my way? With this, we get some nice surprises, some weird ones, and some stressfull ones... together with the know your enemy package, we now need to be aware of every step we do. Even if we do feel safe because of ours (now tricky) memories. Thank you Tryvonvexian.
And finally, the last surprise piece, just released... {{Stress and Fear - A Dynamic Sanity System}} It adds to the fun, perfect alone, perfecter with the mods listet so far. You get debuffs from stress, need to rest, pet your pet, wife, etc. You get to LIVE ingame a little bit. Perfect reason to intall some mods that was in doubt before... and Who knew? Some from the same modder... did he aways think that far? Years ahead? Lol. Guess not. He did what I 've said earlier... did for fun, learned in the process... and did more! Thank you Jayserpa.
Story time: First time in Whiterun, early in this run. Lvl 3 or 4. Hall of the dead. Easy fight to get the amulet... or so it should be. Couldnt dmg the skeleton. Forgot to sleep in the inn. 2 hits, and most of my life were gone. Instead of running door out, ventured inside, needed time to heal... some steps later: Another one. Stopped me in my track. The earlier one hit me from behind. Died. Or not? Someplace else I woke up missing my main weapon, some other gear, fear of undeads debuff... and in fear of that place in real life. Had to get stronger before going in again. Quest in Bleak Falls Barrow? Im in. Just banditismo and some mummies. Problem? Lots of undeads...way more than i could remember. Could only run away. Scared? No... traumatized. The problem wanst just skeletons. All undeads wwre hard to kill. Then re-read my debuff... and realized the sequence or errors. Then I asked for help... had already intalled, were to get later, but... got em in that world to help me. To balance things. In my mind, made sense. But forgot. Time to relearn the game... as wanted, laughing as loud as possibilidades, was already too late in the real world. Then mais out and dit go after my first companion. Markarth's Remiel. Then Auri. Easy to get both. Then... sucess. No really easy in any way, but success. Back. Got Lydia. She talks a lot more now. Almost like she is complete... And got my old gear back. No more fear, survived this time. Im back baby! And... this team... We are going to help this world!
This run is already awesome. And still a young one. Just relearning its language. Every main mod from the core listed earlier working together. And for that, I again need to say: Thank you.
Now... of course lots of other mods on my game. Couldnt live without Enai, skyking, Everglaid, and many others. Even if not listed, you made this game better, you did things that amazed us, and to inspired other modders that build upon your ideas and gave some new ideas back. Now we have this awesome world. Thank you all.
And ty all redditor. Always helping useless people like me, people that keep asking the very same questions. Ty. Most of us do read, but its a bit too much, and sometimes hard to find the right topics or ask the right question.
And bye for now. Real life calls... just heard some dragon is up in a tower. Its close. Need to help. Who knows? Maybe its true.
Ps: Feel free to point out names and mods of your life. The fun life. Or tell some small story. Up to you.

2024.05.13 23:24 silentwraith2405 Houndpaw ◇ Vixen

Houndpaw ◇ Vixen
New oc ◇ Houndpaw and Vixen
⚠️tw: abuse⚠️
Houndpaw is a new roleplay oc of mine (I have enough ocs to make two clans) and he is a medicine cat apprentice for Duskclan. He was a former rogue, raised by his mother Vixen and his father Jinx. I don't currently have any art for Jinx. Jinx and Vixen were in a very toxic relationship for most of his kithood, with constantly arguing and physical fights, usually caused by Vixen. Jinx would disappear for days at a time, come back and the cycle would repeat. Vixen is a sociopath, feels no remorse, is extremely manipulative for her own personal gain, and will kill just for sport.
Jinx had finally had enough, apologising to Houndpaw and abandoning him to be alone with his mother, and he never came back. Vixen began to take her anger out on Houndpaw physically and emotionally, until one day he had enough; he attacked her back, earning the scars on his face after his own mother slashed him. He wounded her, and tired of conflict he left on his own, eventually finding Duskclan and joined as a medicine cat apprentice. He currently runs the medicine den on his own, despite not having his full name.
His mother Vixen now has given herself the sole mission of finding her son and bringing him back to her.
If anyone has any suffix suggestions for this guy PLEASE drop them in the comments! Your girl is struggling.

2024.05.13 23:20 ImAScabMan Character/Weapon Discussion: Antonio Belpaese/Whip (Day 1?) (Maybe)

CharacteWeapon Discussion: Antonio Belpaese/Whip (Day 1?) (Maybe)
“What a wonderful night to hunt beast”
DESCRIPTION: Gains 10% more damage every 10 levels (max +50%).
UNLOCKED BY: Available by default
COST: Free
STARTING WEAPON: Whip
Whip creates a slash horizontally that frontally originates from the character's torso, damaging all enemies in the area.
ARCANAS: Beginning (X), Sarabande of Healing (VI), Slash (XVI)
TRIVIA:
Antonio's family name Belpaese is derived from the phrase Bel Paese, which is Italian for "beautiful country", and also refers to a semi-soft Italian cheese with the same name.
Antonio's family name, overall design, and use of a whip as his primary weapon are all nods to the Belmont family, the clan of vampire slayers known for slaying Dracula several times in the Castlevania series.
His Adventure mode shop quote, "What a wonderful night to hunt beasts!" is an ironic reference to an infamous line from Castlevania II
Antonio is the one of two free characters in the game, the other being Queen Sigma.
Okay so first this not an attempt at karma farm, I genuinely love Vampire Survivors, how such a simplistic game can create so much joy and excitement is honestly amazing. Plus I love Poncle, from the way I see it they honestly care about their fans and just want them to have fun.
So I figured I try to show my appreciation and try to get the community into a discussion about various things: Characters, Weapons, Meta, LORE, just things ya know.
I want to do this for every character but who knows what’ll happen lol.
Most of this stuff I pulled directly from the Vampire Survivors Wiki (https://vampire-survivors.fandom.com/wiki/Vampire_Survivors_Wiki)

2024.05.13 23:10 PumpkinsVenue Parallels between Elden Ring and Dark Souls 2 according to fans - the gods

I've compiled a list of parallels that fans have drawn between Elden Ring and Dark Souls 2, along with brief commentaries and illustrations on the patterns they may have observed.
https://preview.redd.it/9mu9ob1ee90d1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=057574020575dd9701d7df7a5cdc86bee8401f8f

Elden Ring was co-directed by Yui Tanimura who is the director of Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin.
Name-Engraved ring
"There are countless vestiges of long-lost gods in the ruins of Drangleic. Or perhaps they are the very same gods as ours, only known by different names."
I’ve seen people make comparison with the deities mentioned on the Name-engraved Ring list. (although the one they made about Ranni didn’t make sense to me and seem to be more relevant to the Gloam-Eyed Queen if anything).
https://preview.redd.it/serj2lx6e90d1.png?width=1640&format=png&auto=webp&s=51d71268bca135848931a26c5b02e958c296cb09
Miquella shares similarities with Quella, as both are associated with ethereal, dream-like entities like the Nascent Butterfly and White Ring,
Quella’s icon also depicts a boy with wings, which something similar we see Miquella have during Elden Ring’s intro cut scene.
https://preview.redd.it/icccb0b5e90d1.png?width=900&format=png&auto=webp&s=5332b149b3d0e09eacd1c5559644d553d7a2058a
Hanleth is the goddess of bliss.
- Gideon Ofnir
https://preview.redd.it/h4hm67u2e90d1.png?width=2528&format=png&auto=webp&s=76e2dc5e153f9381ae11bc63fa6a58bccaa57216
When damage is taken the ring retaliates and inflicts damage upon enemy.” - Ring of Thorns
https://preview.redd.it/9e66m7y1e90d1.png?width=1700&format=png&auto=webp&s=36d60bbcaab169e7315dc34c8567cb932ff2be25
Assuming the theories that Mesmer are true, his association with the snake (which is viewed as a traitor to the Erdtree), consumption of dragon hearts, and seeking ultimate power suggest the pursuit for supremacy for his own gain.

Godwyn the Golden from Elden Ring and the God of Sun from Dark Souls 2 were revered for their mastery of lightning and their incantations, such as Lightning Spear, Dragonbolt Blessing, and Sacred Oath. Additionally, Godwyn's victory of the ancient dragon Fortissax and his subsequent friendship with the fallen foe gave rise to the ancient dragon cult in the capital, much like the God of Sun's connection with the Blinding Bolt that was forbidden so to protect the world from hatred, or sorrow, and the ancient clan) whose leader was revered as the deity.

Leydia apostles manipulated both the onset and curing of disease but were denied peaceful deaths, while Malenia's rot was an incurable sickness (as her army are undergoing their gradual, putrefaction of their flesh) that Miquella tried to ward off with unalloyed gold needles and her great rune provides healing after receiving damage.
Coincidentally Malenia can grow wings as well.

2024.05.13 23:02 latartarugaa 21 [M4F] Turkey #Online #Istanbul seeking a silly friendship

Hi~ I'm looking for someone to just chit chat, talk about hobbies and do silly stuff as friends. I'm kinda tired of guy spaces as the guys around me always talk about football, girls, and investing in stock market (ew). I'm not ready for a serious relationship yet, I just wanna make friends.
Here's some stuff about me:
• I'm 5'9... I guess? 175 in centimeters, idk the imperial system that well. I'm 110 kilos (which is a lot ik) but I promise don't look like I weigh that much.
• I have kinda long dark hair, I've grown it down to my shoulders before and I plan on growing it again. I usually dress quite simple with a t shirt and jeans with a jacket, all black, but I'd love to explore different styles. I'm very into alternative and grunge aesthetic and I'll definitely rebuild my wardrobe with alternative/grunge stuff once I lose the weight, especially feminine stuff like skirts...
• I often use he/him pronuns since I look way too manly but I'm actually trans! I usually prefer they/them pronouns over he/him and in long term I plan on starting HRT, just not right now. I'm still new to the community so I might not be able to answer most questions but if you're also queetrans and want to ask questions, or maybe just want another friend from the community I'd LOVE to too.
• I love jewelry and make up. I've just started using make up and I've only tried using foundation, eyeliner and nail polishes so far but I'm trying to improve. Also I love rings, earrings, bracelets... Not a big fan of necklaces but still, they're pretty.
• I don't oppose meeting irl but I'm usually extremely nervous around people I recently met so I prefer starting from online, I'd be open to discuss about an irl meeting afterwards.
• I listen to a variety of song genres but I love metal. Recently I've been listening A7X and Slipknot for the most of the time but I'm open to explore any genre.
• I'm very unfamiliar with TV series/movies but I'm willing to watch some new things. I've watched some anime in high school too, I watched AOT, Naruto and Fairy Tail as well as Black Lagoon and some other 12 episode short animes but I don't remember all of them. Anyway, I'm open to suggestions.
• I have a LOT of hobbies. I don't even know where to start. I play guitar a little and I make songs on FL studio but I'm still amateur, yet I have one or two songs that I've written and I'd love to have a friend to talk about music. I like talking about politics but I don't like strictly one sided opinions, I don't like fanatics. In terms of science I love astronomy and theoretical physics, and I will yap a lot about them if you'd like to listen. I also love philosophy and sociology even though I don't have that much knowledge about them so I'd probably listen more than talk about those topics. I also yap about economy sometimes but I know very little about it. I don't draw but I love art so if you're an artist I can hit you with one or two suggestions and an endless amount of compliments.
• I don't like religious debates. I respect everyone's belief but I don't like sharing opinions about each other's religion since it could raise the tension a lot so... I prefer to keep it to ourselves.
• I used to play games but my PC broke so I quitted about a year ago. The PC was old anyway so I could only play LoL, Call of Duty (old singleplayer ones like black ops 1), Need for Speed MW... I mostly played singleplayer games so I can't be a game buddy but I can talk about games.
Once you get to know me, you'll meet with a ton of shitposts, absolutely meaningless memes and made up scenarios where you might end up as a 10ft chair running away from a blood thirsted sea turtle named Globblegunk or overthrowing the government with an ape clan all using telekinesis to fight. Yeah... like I said, silly stuff.

2024.05.13 22:30 DarkFireUltraMaster Abandon this whole Idea please.

Abandon this whole Idea please.
I think it is the wrong solution, there are completely different and way better approaches.
They should keep SC as realistic as possible and as arcady as needed, it ruins the potential of SC to be THE real space-SIM. Speedlimits in space and systems that only work in specific "modes" is just a plain stupid approach to solve pvp issues. There are way better approaches.
I don't say the following are the solution, but in the name of contructive criticism i want to deliver some alternative approaches one could think of to influence space combat without the need for "modes" or speedlimits:
1) if you want to slow combat down and bring it closer together you could: 1.1) make the guns more inaccurate at high speeds 1.2) make the ships turn worse at high speeds 1.3) implement a tele combat zoom for longer ranges (like precision aiming mode - I like that one) and make the shot faster and go way further (if I can zoom in on targets 10 km away the speed becomes less of a factor) 1.4) make the energy shots do less damage on distance and have few ammo for ballistics 1.5) increase shield and ship health/regen (jousting becomes inefficient)
2) if you want to make it easier for noobs and new players, you could: 2.1) offer an improved auto aiming mode (would actually be realistic, I mean come on even tanks have auto aim today) 2.2) just don't make it easier for them... 2.3) offer training courses 2.4) strengthen shields and hulls to make fights last longer and be more forgiving to mistakes 2.5) enable them to quickly deploy a jumpable distress beacon with big bounty, for the whole server, so space knights can accept and come rescue them quickly.
3) if you want to make it harder for people to escape fights, once they started: 3.1) implement an advanced power management system for the ships and define that the QT-Drive needs almost all the ship energy to jump, so once shields are hit and need energy to regenerate, there is not enough energy to QT-Jump away... 3.2) like mentioned in 1.3 more zoom and reach combined with 1.2 less agility at fast speeds would make people trying to boost away straight, easy targets 3.3) add more smaller QT-Jammers for more ships
4) if you want to improve battle experience and immersion: 4.1) make the charges and punishments for killing players more gruesome, so that piracy is more about boarding and stealing, than just killing. 4.2) make ships only explode if the QT system is critically hit, so that after the ship fights there can still be FPS fights and boarding action 4.3) give the weapons more differences again, for example: Lasers ultra fast but weak against hulls, Plasma slow but powerful against shields, Balistic medium fast but go partially throught shields depending on caliber size vs. shield size and are then calculated against hull armor.
This was just a short brainstorming, and the longer you think about it the more ideas come to mind, but I really think there are way better solutions, than the current unrealistic system of speedlimits and "ShIeLdS wOrK oNly iN tHiS MoDe" nonsense...
Thank you for listening to my Ted-Talk, you are now allowed to throw the stones..

2024.05.13 22:29 goodnewsjimdotcom GAME RELEASE! Starfighter General first official lasting MMO patch. Space is boring, so you must design around making it fun, and all good mmos now are designed around end game.

A video of some random game play: https://youtu.be/EK2xB3xCFjQ

If you want to jump in and play: https://store.steampowered.com/app/658480/Starfighter_General/

I'm trying to make the spiritual successor to Xwing for 90s DOS everyone craved, but Lucas Arts never delivered. I was also inspired by Wing Commander Privateer who's title led me to imagining building a giant fleet by buying more and more ships and making friends.
It has a bunch of bugs but these will be fixed in a week or two. It's still pretty fun and a base by which a HUGE HUGE potential WOW killer will be made on. fairly long patch notes of a subset of what I plan on doing in the future are at the bottom.

My take Diablo2 skill tree/Path of Exile Talent tree: https://youtu.be/E8h9E4lw2jk?si=LVK8hQOtWez6Riwy&t=16 Very pretty to watch.

I'm exhausted... I spent close to a year on this patch... And the last 3 months was nothing but sleep, code, sleep, code, body necessities, balanced against being stress sick, normal sick, and trying not to break down due to being isolated non stop working... About 2000 hours in this patch alone, on top of 10,000 hours in the past 6 years before that, and I use an anthology of game resources that took me 20,000 hours to make. There's some bugs due to Unity compiling standalone improper from editor, but they'll be fixed, as well as the story line not in... It's a spoiler, but people say my SCI FI is better than any scifi man's ever written, it's at least good:

GROUND COMBAT FORM II) One is tactical Real Time Turn Based Game(RTTG) from top down, almost isometric. RTTG will give you the feel of a classic orthogonic chess like game with cover, vision and such, yet everyone plays at the same time. RTTG mode happens when you enter populated towns, not because the server can't handle infinite players in a small zone, but because it feels more intense when any action and fight can start from the shadows. Movement is freer and faster when no one has fights going on nearby.
GROUND COMBAT FORM III)One is a 3d Fighter Game you'd see in Arcades from the 90s, but with the ability to change targets.
Starfighter General is the Everything Game. And it's for real. Let me know what you want me to dev next. Virtual Goods buys lets me sub contract parts out to make the game faster. Talk about what you want, and if you got the money, be a driver, push this game's development faster. I'm a 64x coder, people who meet me don't believe people like me exist, so I get things done... I just have literally 0$ funding at the moment. You'll see things in Starfighter General you thought were impossible and things never done before... Be a believer, or heck, just play and enjoy.
KNOWN BUGS: 1) Iron ore is called a book 2) Collision detection on giant space ships is clunky and can be very annoying if you get close 3) Vision obscuring of mesh fog in junk yard 4) Laser angle not straight 5) TEXT RENDDER DEPTH of chatting aliens, or targetting computer needs fixed so always visible.

2024.05.13 22:24 Sin-God Master Of All: A Really Neat Perk (& Also Other Generic Gamer Musings)

Today I'm discussing Master of All, which is a perk from Generic Gamer. If you've never seen this perk or heard of this jump... this perk is probably the best singular perk in the jump (though ALL of them are really good), but it's not the INTENDED reason to come here. I personally think an early jump could stand to benefit from fusing GGJ with a more mundane jump (which is what my latest story-jumper is doing though not by choice) and grabbing this perk, it's appeal is kind of amazing. Now let's see the ACTUAL perk!
Master of All: Specialists focus on depth at the expense of breadth; generalists focus on breadth at the expense of depth. But what if you could focus on a single ability and have it benefit all of them? When you train one skill, ability, or power, that training and development applies not just to it, but to all of the skills, abilities, and powers you possess.
This is, understandably, a capstone perk. It is immensely powerful, and is the best TRAINING perk I've ever seen. There are BETTER perks out there for mastering stuff, heck I'll even include the other capstone in this jump just so you can see a better perk for MASTERING something.
Hyperspecialization: There’s focusing in a few specific areas, and then there’s this. Select a single skill, ability, power, Perk, whatever, so long as it’s possible to improve. At base, two things happen. A: the chosen ability progresses as if you’re training with it all the time, even when you’re doing nothing; if you were to actively train with it, the rate of growth would be effectively doubled. B: the rate of growth and development for the chosen ability is multiplied by a hundred.
Now, keep in mind that that’s just at base — both of these boosts increase gradually but exponentially the longer you focus on a single ability. Give it a few days, and the rate of growth will be multiplied by two hundred; a month, and by a thousand. You can change what ability you’re focusing on at any time at the cost of resetting the accrued exponential boosts.
Hyperspecialization IS a better perk if you want to master singular skills (or if you need a boost in power or skill in some SPECIFIC area but don't have the time to actually sit down and hone that area), but if you want to TRAIN something, if you value working for your goals, and if you want to be a jack of all trades Master of All is the better perk. And of course you could always grab BOTH perks, you could even do so without a SINGLE drawback AND you could still get other perks WITHOUT stacking drawbacks due to the discount mechanics of this jump. But I strongly prefer Master of All, personally.
Master of All is a very creative way to reward engagement in a setting which is something I'm always a fan of. A smart jumper who is not constrained by something like the notion of a fickle benefactor who ACTUALLY punishes boring jumpers might get something like Hyperspecialization and want to turtle up, but with Master of All you need to do SOMETHING for it to benefit you. Now WHAT you do doesn't matter, so long as you do SOMETHING that serves as training.
A very fun build could be for someone to snag both Skills, which is a function of the gamer system in Generic Gamer and then grab MoA and go to something like Generic School Years and diligently study. That studying will definitely count for MoA, since studying will definitely become or involve a skill as defined by Skills. This means that while you're studying you're becoming better at gymnastics, or cooking, or painting, or... using The Force, or mana management, or whatever other skills you've gained at this point in your journey.
One small facet of Master of All that is very interesting is how it stacks with uncappers and the very neat knowledge that there is a free uncapper in Generic Gamer (it's a facet of the gamer system!). This means that Master of All will eventually give you stuff like functionally limitless stamina and potentially unlimited strength, once you get the right upgradeable stuff at least. A fun thing I like about this perk is how it affects stuff like workouts. Workouts not only make you more physically fit with this, they also strengthen your perks, strengthen facets of your physique, and can even improve your luck (assuming there is a perk for your luck, which there IS in this jump in two senses: there's The Devil's Own Luck, AND there's a gamer function called Attributes, which CAN give you a luck stat if you want, I recommend it partially to mix with this perk). The idea that going for a joydrive can strengthen your telekinesis, or actively make you smarter is very funny but also very true with this perk and the right mix of gamer things.
This perk on it's own is somewhat limited, but a smart strategist who wants their jumper to be able to stand alone has a lot of options they can use. Two of my favorites here are Jack of All Trades and Experience Booster. JoAT is a fun perk that makes it much easier for you to hone new perksyou acquire along your chain, and Experience Booster is just a POWERHOUSE of a perk that boosts how much experience you get from anything that gives you experience, whether you only get it from defeating enemies or you get it from doing minor stuff, and if you mix it with Master of All you get a powerful combination since it makes it so that your workouts buff your brain by twenty times as much as they would otherwise. The best way to cheese it has got to be to go all in on game-ifying your life and taking the skills function of the gamer system, which allows you to make a ton of stuff into a skill, which thus plugs it into the Master of All functionality. Here, look at the description of Skills so you can see what I mean.
Skills (-100/-200/-300 GP)
For 100 GP, any ability or skill you possess becomes a ‘Skill’, with a skill level, increasing in power and efficiency as it levels up, done by gaining enough experience, which is gathered by using the skill; Level 1 is maximum inefficiency, while Level 99 is the maximum efficiency you could normally get — you can go even beyond that, though, with no hard cap to how high a skill’s level can be. The higher a skill’s level, the more experience required to get it to the next level. Generally, the more powerful and useful a skill, the slower it is to level up.
Any powers, skills, or abilities you already possess are automatically converted into System Skills. You may gain new skills by performing relevant actions; for example, throwing a knife might earn you the skill ‘Knife Throwing’. Skills will not deteriorate with time or disuse.
For an additional 100 GP, once a skill has reached Level 99, it may ‘prestige’, granting you an at least vaguely similar but much more powerful skill at Level 1 without taking away this one or, occasionally, traits if you’ve purchased the option. Prestige skills may themselves prestige. Prestige skills are especially difficult to level up.
For an additional 100 GP, you may ‘combine’ certain skills into a new one — without actually losing the ingredient skills.
This is hands down the best way to cheese this. This is also just a VERY good function in general, but guaranteeing that your skills can improve AND uncapping how good the stuff you do and the stuff you make can be is INCREDIBLE. This also allows you to become holistically better at everything just by cooking, or reading, and thus rewards you for having hobbies. This perk is very nice because it frees you from the constraints of training and having to incorporate stuff that makes you a stronger jumper but is more time-consuming and is not what a native would do.
I'm gonna take a beat to talk about Hyperspecialization again because one thing that's worth mentioning is that it's a passive trainer perk. It's MORE than that, sure, and in fact if you get it you're getting something worth every bit of CP you pay for it, but at it's core it's an enormously powerful passive trainer. There are other passive trainers. There didn't USE to be, at least not a LOT of them, but they exist now (these types of perks exist in several Edrogrimshell jumps, usually they are named "Dabbler" but not all of them have that name) so this perk has lost of some what made it unique. A perk doesn't have to be unique to be valuable, but it helps. Master of All, on the other hand is part of a, as far as I've seen, rarer type of perk: a training synergizer (something which blends types of training and studying together), and it's also a COMPLETE training synergizer which I've never seen before or anywhere else (normally the training synergizers I've seen link SPECIFIC skills, such as a perk from Generic Wizard which syncs how strong you are with your skill as a wizard, or a perk from Generic Culinary Warrior that links your cooking and combat skills). What this means is that if you miss out on Hyperspecialization you can go to other jumps and snag an equivalent perk there. In fact, you can actually grab something that is a MINOR improvement over Hyperspecilization, because all of the passive trainers I've seen let you passively train more than one thing at a time. It IS true that Hyperspecilization beats out these other, baby perks in how quickly it trains what you assign, but that minor aspect of its winning out is somewhat lessened in importance when you remember that placing something new in the lone slot hyperspecialization gives you resets how fast it trains the thing in question. Master of All is both less easy to compare to other existing perks and doesn't have any internal conditions that weaken active usage of it like Hyperspecialization does.
Now that's not to put you off of Hyperspecialization, if I were in a real chain I'd want to grab BOTH Hyperspecialization and Master of All (and not just because MoA completely removes the weakness of Hyperspecialization, but that's certainly a part of it haha), these are INCREDIBLY powerful perks, but one is... one is more universally useful than the other. Master of All is just an absolute S-tier perk. I cannot imagine any build where MoA is applicable where it wouldn't be an absolute GOD-TIER of a purchase. The only possible combination I could think of that might invalidate MoA would be the Sage x Spirit Touched combination from the ATLA Redux jump, and that'd be most of your base CP in a jump that has MULTIPLE sections worth of stuff to try and grab.
To put this in perspective, with a perk like this and the right combination of gamer things you can go into a setting like Chronicle and hone your telekinesis by working on your photography skills. You can become a better chef by doing your math homework and rereading whatever chapter of MacBeth you're on in English. Once you've gained the right skills you can become better at soccer and other sports while you design a website. Become a better wizard by practicing juggling. This is an incredible QoL perk that frees you from a lot of the time-crunchiness that comes with only having a decade in a setting as opposed to a lifetime. Honestly that's kind of the biggest strength of the particular nature of the Generic Gamer Jump, it does a LOT to free up your time and really let you optimize your time in a setting.

Generic Gamer As A Time Optimizer

So depending on the setting, a decade is either a LOT of time or it's BARELY any time. In Avatar the Last Airbender, a decade can be a HUGE amount of time (the entire plot of the first show is about one calendar year according to one of the show's execs), but in Harry Potter a decade is only a bit more time than the plot takes, and truthfully is barely a blink of an eye. So perks that allow you to have a special relationship with time are always good.
One of the critical facets of Generic Gamer is how it allows you to optimize time. There's definitely some underlying logic here, since game characters have INCREDIBLE growth rates, and I love that about this jump. Generic Gamer, for the cost of 50 GP lets you lose the need to sleep, the need to eat, and the need to drink. That is an INCREDIBLE boost to the amount of functional time you have in a jump, if you started your chain off as a base human and entered this jump as a non-boosted human or as an only minorly-boosted human. Getting rid of three of the most essential bodily needs for the cost of 50 points in a thing where you start off with 1350 points makes it a steal (You get different points for perks and for gamer system customization in this jump).
A big part of how essential this is, is how much time it saves you by eliminating sleep but in all honesty removing your need to drink or eat is also critical. I don't know how many jumps could safely be taken as first jumps that completely eliminate the need for sleep, food, AND water, but this one can and that's pretty OP given the costs. Also, bv eliminating the need for stuff like food and water you make entire other jumps wholly more viable. Minecraft, for example, becomes WILDLY safer if you don't have to work about starvation, since hunger is directly linked to your ability to recover from wounds but in Generic Gamer you can completely subvert this system by spending 100 GP: purchase Gamer Body (eliminating the need for food) and also purchase the HP System (which gives you fiat-backed regen, so long as you don't take a hit for a beat, giving you a passive heal much like some FPS games).
Gamer's Body & HP System guarantee you survive any setting that isn't actively trying to kill you, and also frees you up to more safely do what you want like explore or just have a good time. If you don't have to pay for food or housing for sleep, you either don't need money or you need a LOT less of it. Stuff like this is also DRAMATICALLY powerful for vampires and other creatures that are normally driven by, or at least associated with, constant hunger. Also this just makes zombie jumps hilariously easy for you to solo since the number of risks you have to take (while solo) are SO MUCH lower. Funnily enough the right set of perks here even lower the risks you have to take when you work WITH other people, as Inventory lets you both raid places by yourself (since you can store an infinite amount of stuff on you by yourself) AND lowers how much supplies you need for your friends (since time doesn't pass for stuff in your inventory, preventing it from going bad!).
This jump is also filled with training boosters, with Jack of All Trades, Experience Booster, Hyperspecialization, and Master of All all qualifying as training boosters broadly, they all just qualify as different TYPES of training boosters. This is very interesting, since one of the big things a lot of adventure jumpers will need sooner or later are training boosts of their own. The best training boost here is Experience Booster which buffs training by 100 times, a STUNNING boost to one's training, and this stacks hilariously with every other training booster here.
I have a lot of thoughts on this jump and I think I'll keep writing them down from time to time. It's just so good.

2024.05.13 22:22 goodnewsjimdotcom Starfighter General official lasting MMO patch, I tried to make space fun.

2024.05.13 22:15 Mediocre_Law_5557 Kengan Ashura 81st OC I've ever made

Name: Louis "The Invisible Man" Corbett
Age: 35
Height: 5 foot 11
Weight: 173 lbs
Appearance: A little muscle but somewhat skinny enough to not seem threatening American with medium long Black hair.
Personality: Devoted to his family as he is their strongest warrior so he will do anything can to protect his family while also being very cocky because of his strengths while also caring for his wife named Yumi who is 6 months pregnant.
Backstory: His family, The Corbett Clan, have been in constant war with a clan of giants called The Bähr Clan because of a river of Black Water that gave both clans their power where the Corbetts gained incredible speed and those of Bähr gained incredible strength and they've been fighting ever since and Louis is one of the strongest members of his family of the new generation able to disappear at the drop of a leaf.
Fighting Style: Corbett Clan Style Rough and Tumble.
Special Moves: Disappear- This is the Corbett Clans bread and butter this ability gained by years of training and fighting as well as the Black Rivers Gift allows them to move at exceptional speeds but its only second to The Mikazuchi Clans Technique- Lightning Flash but Louis is able to match Mikazuchi Clan members making him faster than anyone in his clan or family and it also turns their bodies slightly purple while using it.
Tear- While using Disappear Louis blitzes past the enemy and grins as he shows that he either ripped off their nose, ear, or sometimes tongue and that when the pain starts coursing through the opponents body as they realize what happened.
Mirage- When the opponent throws a punch Louis quickly dodges backwards then back forwards to make it seem like they just punched a mirage which is similar to Niko Style- Phantom Pace and using Disappear with it would allow him to go even faster than before able to dodge like water.
Fake Knockout- It either starts off as a Right or Left Hook but the goal is for the opponent to block it and at the same time as they block it Louis unleashes the worlds fastest straight punch shattering the opponents nose and face knocking them backwards unconscious.
Feats: Fast enough to be on par with Mikazuchi Clan Members.
His fingers strength is trained high enough to be able to rip off fingers.
Weaknesses: His Fighting Style mostly relies on his speed so his biggest weakness is grappling but you also have to be fast enough to grab him as he could quickly pull out of a possible hold, clinch, or grapple.
Representing Slaughter Colliseum.
Theme Entrance: Hard Corps(Sgt. Slaughters Theme Song WWE)

2024.05.13 21:05 dbwip [FN] The World of Neron

People say it's childish to be afraid of the dark. They say it's a symptom of an overactive imagination. And yet the same people- all people- know that you don’t go out at night, not without light or charm. And everyone knows, instinctively, in the marrow of their bones, that you don’t go out on a moonless night.
I had been out on a moonless night for days. Most people can’t tell, but once you're trained, you can- Darkness loves darkness. She likes to stretch her time out as long as she's possibly able. Everyone wants to spend time with kindred spirits. It’s nature, human or otherwise.
There’s nothing I can do about it, so I do my best to enjoy it. After all, you have to pick your battles, and my gun makes it pretty easy to figure out which ones I can win. She's a lovely gun. Big, which is fine with me, because I need all the power she can muster. Nine custom rounds rotate through, each enchanted by my own self. Not as effective as a professional enchantment, but I get by, and it’s a hell of a lot cheaper.
The only light came from the muzzle flare of my pistol. They smothered my campfire long ago, leaving me with only the vaguest sense of where they were, occasionally silhouetted against the trees when I fired. They were big, looming over me, high into the crooked trees and the moonless sky behind them. Who could say how long tonight would last?
I try not to cast on Nights, because it just acts like more of a beacon than I already am, but sometimes it just can’t be helped. My chest burned as I threw up a Buffer against a sudden wave of creatures, but they tore it down before it hardly had time to help. I bit down and cast a Warding, felt my arm burn harshly in the wild energy of the new moon and felt the following cold cut its way through my flesh and deep into my bones. Popping the spent rounds out with my right hand, my left knitted itself into the Ward shape automatically, trained by years of habit. Now I’ve really done it, I thought, because I could practically sense them perk up from miles off, even without casting a Seeing. It worked, though, and I was given brief respite for my efforts. I’d sure as hell pay for it in about 10 minutes, but for now I needed to stop bleeding and deal with the sensation of a drill pressed to the back of my skull.
“Skippers,” I growled. I hated Skippers.
The problem with Skippers is they’re small, harder to notice than anything else, and instead of trying to take off your head they try to get into your head. From there they can do whatever they want while you watch- make you walk off a cliff, bite off your own tongue, flay yourself alive. Like I said, whatever they want, and they're usually pretty mean. I’d seen them really go to work on all sorts of people, mostly people I knew and trained with. Hazards of the job- sorcerous training let you see a whole new world, but it opened you up to the threats that lived there, more so than regular folk. I was in worse shape than most sorcerers, which was part of what put me out at Night in the first place. Luckily, I’m better than most sorcerers, but it still meant I had to be careful.
To get rid of a Skipper, all you have to do is burn them off with a little Light. I'd needed the break- 3 of them dripped out of me right away, and a fourth started to run down my back as it tried to escape.
“Bastard.” I struck it with the handle of the gun as it slithered away. No sense wasting ammo on idiots like that.
The Ward wavered, the Night grew around me, and I hadn't even had time to heal anything. Damn.

Sam watched from behind the counter as the man walked through the door. Under the door, rather, as he had to duck to keep from hitting his head. He was pale, very pale, unlike the merchantfolk that usually came through the inn. His face was covered by a bushy beard, his hair was long, and his eyes were rimmed with red, but he could certainly be no older than 40. It was strange- for someone to come in so early in the morning, and look so tired- he must have been traveling all night, but he had no horse to be stabled.
The stranger was an armory- small blades and strange, bulbous jars jutted out from pockets and packs all over the man, daggers strapped to his legs, and even metal nubs in the knuckles of his gloves. What caught Sam's attention, though, was the man's huge gun, strapped tightly to his waist. He had never seen a gun that big, and the ammunition the man was carrying in the sacks around his waist must have weighed heavily on him, though he showed no signs of it.
“What does it cost for a room?” His voice did not match the tired, worn image in front of him. It was firm, and had the sound of recent laughter in it.
“Let me get my mom.” Sam began, starting for the back room. He never handled rooms.
“That's alright. You'll do fine. How much?” The man pulled out a purse, smaller than the other bags on his belt, and it was clearly much lighter than anything else he carried. “I’d like to find a bed and use it.” His voice did not betray him, nor did his hands, but the redness of his eyes did. They were a startling blue, and they seemed to contain nothing except exhaustion.
“I need your name,” Sam remembered as he directed the giant stranger to his room. The man's eyes, just for an instant, darted to one side before returning to Sam.
“Joan,” he said.
“O-kay.” Sam jotted the name down. “Two nights, food at 7 and 7, anything else you pay for.” He began to walk the man down the hall. “Strange accent. Are you from Melano, or Baden?” He didn’t really know what those accents sounded like, but he knew they were far from Newmark.
“No.” Joan walked into the room indicated with no further comments.
Sam stopped at the door while the man called Joan dropped his bags to the floor. “What kinda gun is that?”
“Mine,” he said simply, as he unbundled it’s holster from his belt. “I make the ammunition myself most of the time.”
“It's impressive. My paw was a soldier, and he showed me his old gun once, only it was a lot smaller than yours, and all rusted out besides, but-" Sam stopped as the man removed his cloak. There was a bright gash, still oozing dark blood, working its way up the man's side behind the thick leather plates. “Holy cripes! You oughta see a doctor, sor!”
Joan gave no indication that he could even feel the wound, nor did he instantly react when the boy cried out. “This? It looks a lot worse than it is. Rest, and solitude,” and here he looked at Sam, “will do me more good than any doctor from this town.” He moved to close the door, and against Sam's protest seemed to shut him out with no effort at all.
He ran down the hall to inform his mother of their newest guest.
I didn’t want the kid to see what I had to do next. It really wasn’t that bad- on the outside. Because we put so much ourselves in the spiritual world, the physical world didn’t matter so much. But it’s all tradeoffs. It had cut a pretty chunk out of me spirit-wise, and that hurt worse than any gash could. Really, I was better off than most sorcerers would’ve been with a cut like this- I had less to lose. Doesn’t make it hurt any less, though.
I Worked a minor Healing, but anything more would’ve taken more out of me than I could hope to regain, so the rest had to be resigned to sleep. Stupid. I should never have let anything get that close anyway, but it seemed like the Skippers were going crazy last Night.
I was too tired even to dream. A small blessing.

Waking up was not pleasant- I was stiff and sore, and still hurting something fierce. And cold, of course. Always cold. The physical wound had scabbed over, and I figured I would get away with just a minor scar. My innards were still shredded, but marginally less so than before, so I could breathe without grimacing. I expected I’d be laid out for a few days yet. Lucky, since Night had just passed, so things would be calm for almost the entire month now.
Exhausted as I had been, I had no Wards up, nothing even blocking the door. Nice going. Practically begging for a stray to wander in and eat you. As I flipped the coin I’d lifted off the kid, I examined the room for anything that might have snuck in, but it was clear. This time.
It was around this point that I realized how hungry I was. It had been (what felt like) days without a hot meal, and apparently this podunk little inn could provide, so I wandered out to the main room to see if I could scare up some food.
When the kid saw me, his eyes widened. That’s never a good sign. Recognition meant questions, and the answers to those questions usually meant getting pushed to the next town before I had time to heal. I had been hoping to score a decent meal and a bath, at least.

Sam could hardly believe his eyes. “Criminy, sor, but I didn’t expect you to be up at all! It's barely been a day!” The cut had been bleeding heavily, and very deep, he was sure of it, but now the man was clean and walking as if he had never been injured.
The stranger called Joan sat heavily at a table, ignoring the implied question. “Any chance of a man getting some food around here?” He inquired. “Or, perhaps,” and he glanced at the barrels of ale behind the counter, “some drink?”
San quickly filled him a tankard and plate from supper earlier, then sat himself at the table, as the crowd in the room dwindled down to a late few. The man interested him. He did not seem to interest the man, however, as Joan simply ate and drank in silence, apparently unbothered by his wound. He was still pale, almost deathly so, but Sam had heard tell of people from far north being much lighter than the tanned workers of nearby towns.
“Are you a soldier?” Sam didn’t know much about the war to the south, but occasionally troops passed through, and he had heard his ma talk in the back room about an extra levy because the Northern Kingdoms were allied. “I never saw someone carry so many weapons that weren't a soldier. What are those jars you carry? Is that them new bombs they been talking about? With gunpowder, only you throw the jar so it’s like a cannonshot?” Sam did not know much about weapons, either, but he saw so few soldiers come through that he had to learn what he could, if he was going to join the war when he was of age.
“Sure, kid.” Joan tapped his empty tankard on the table and placed down the coin he had been flipping. Sam ran to fill it up again before sitting back down.
“So did you come from the southern border, where all the fights are? What's happening? Are we winning? We have all kinds of the Northern Kingdoms working together, right? We must be winning!”
“The southern border? No, no, I didn’t come from the southern border,” he snorted. “That whole war is just nonsense anyway. The Northern Kingdoms, in some alliance or another, have had it out for Onis since time began. Maybe even before. The war is just an excuse to keep the money rolling in. Seems like there’s less and less of it than ever.” He mumbled this last part into his cup.
“That’s- that’s not true!” Sam's pa had fought, same as Sam would. “The war is important! Onis could really invade anytime! Besides, you said you were a soldier. If you aren’t fighting in the war, how can you be a soldier?” Joan did not answer, but he reached for his sleeve for a moment as if to roll it up, then seemed to catch himself at the last second. Was he a deserter? “Are you a deserter?” Sam blurted out, realizing a second late that he was pushing his luck. Joan just tapped his mug again.
Sam's ma hurried over. “So sorry for this one, sor, he has a bad habit of being curious.” She cuffed him on the ear and it smarted.
“It's no problem, mam.” The stranger smiled warmly, but in his eyes there was nothing. It was a chilling sensation. “He fills my cup just fine.” His ma dragged him off before Sam could object, and Joan got up before Sam could return.

Broder laughed as he took Flander for another hand. Three hands up, he was, and showed no signs of slowing. He stopped, though, as a big man in a heavy cloak came to the table.
“Deal me in?” His voice, deep and rich, did not match the weathered exterior. The man was no farm hand, that much was clear. More a mercenary sort. Broder glanced around the table, but no one seemed to object outright, so he shrugged. One more fool for the best poker man in the west side of Newmark. “Promise I know the rules.”
“Can you make ante, pal?” Jaten sized him up from across the table, suspicious from the long, ratty hair sitting on his shoulders and the general sense of dirtiness emanating from the man. He didn't notice what Broder had seen- nice leather, warm coat, and firm shoes. The man had some money, at least.
“He's good for it, Jaten. What's your name, stranger?” Broder gestured at the empty space next to him as he began to deal the hands. The stranger threw his ante, and Broder couldn’t hear much left in the purse. The poor ones were easy to sucker in.
“Joan.”
“You from Onis or something, name like that?” Cogen sneered.
“Na, man, listen to his voice, he's from up in Lansing or summat.” Garrett spat. “You're pickin a fight so you don’t have to deal with your shite hand.”
“That's not true, mate! Maybe you ought to keep an eye on your own mess in front of ya!” Cogen threw in extra to compensate. They all knew each other, knew the tics and tells and habits, but this stranger would be interesting.
That was what Broder thought, but as they went round for a few hands, the stranger losing more than he won, it became clear he was just another sucker thinking he could smash the small town guys. He had seemed confident at first- smug, even- but Broder had moved in with a predatory efficiency and would not let up. He offered to buy a round for everyone, apparently hoping for mercy, or to dull them, but the man seemed to be getting a bit red in the nose much faster than the well-seasoned drinkers of the little town of Aren, where there was little else to do but work or drink, or play cards. Broder began to really work on Joan for everything he had left, preparing to take the man for anything he could offer. The game was boring, and Broder needed beer money, so he went to end the man entirely.
What Broder did not expect was for the man to turn his whole plan backwards by dropping a flush when he should’ve had nothing. That cleared the table pretty fast, and Broder noticed the man's nose was really not that red at all.
The hand was nonsense. He couldn't have won, couldn’t have had those cards. “Alright, pal, roll up your sleeves, eh? Just a friendly game, here, after all. No reason to stay all formal-like.” Broder saw the other men nod their approval.
“Are you sure? Isn’t it possible, just a little, that I might be better at the game than you?” Joan smirked, taunting the men.
“Roll those up in here or we'll roll em up for ya out back,” Cogen growled. He was the biggest, aside from the stranger himself, and had a knack for bar brawling.
“Alright. No need to get snippy that I beat you so bad.” Cogen almost stood, but Joan began to roll up his sleeves. Right, then left.
His left arm was covered up to the elbow in fresh burn scars- a bright, angry red. If Broder squinted, he could almost see fine lines tracing letters across the harshly burned skin, but he didn’t have to. He knew what he was looking at.
“You're a bloody wizard, ye stupid bastard!” Garrett exploded. “Ye- ye bastard! You used magic on our all heads, ye did!”
Joan's eyes darkened briefly, but he did not react.
“Garrett's got the right idea- who's to say you weren’t using magic trickery to win the game, eh? Seems like something your lot would do,” Jaten added smartly. “It seems only fair you give us back the money you stole.”
“In the interest of accuracy, I am a sorcerer. Wizards do not leave their little towers and their little books. Besides, if I had used any magic, why would I stop now?” The stranger pointed out. “Wouldn’t it be easier to just leave, or to make you forget you ever saw me?”
“Well- there are 4 of us! Maybe you couldn’t do us in all at once, eh?” Jaten shot back. There was a chorus of affirmation from the group. “Be honorable, man, just give us the money back.”
Joan rolled his sleeves down. “If I had wanted to,” he began quietly, gravel in his voice, “I could make you all give me your land, your wives, and your unborn sons and you wouldn’t even remember your names when I was done. I did not cheat,” he suddenly smiled. “You boys just suck at poker.”
“Now listen here, son,” Broder began. “You may be some wizard from up north-"
“East,” Joan interjected.
“You may be some fancy wizard from up north,” Broder continued, “but don’t think that means you can insult us small-town folk. We might not have your ‘education’ or what have you, but we know from poker.”
Joan sighed. “I am leaving town in two days. Leave me alone for those two days, and I will forget your names, faces, and the name of this backwater town you live in. I did not cheat you.” He looked each of them coldly in the eyes, and Broder saw that all the mirth and cheer that had been there earlier had been drained, replaced with nothingness. Not even hatred, or anger, but simply blank space. The stranger stood up with a groan, signaled for another round of drinks, and trudged to the back of the inn. None of the men followed.

I was lucky none of these farm hicks knew anything about casting, or else they’d have known I was bluffing. It didn’t seem like any of them could actually read my burns, because if they could’ve, they would’ve known I could only cast a couple Bindings, and that’s if I wasn’t hurting like hell.
What was most insulting, more than calling me a wizard, was that they thought I cheated to beat them at cards. I don’t need to cheat at cards. I had slipped a bit of coin out of their pockets as I brushed by, but that was hardly cheating. Just good, honest thievery. And to call me a wizard? I ought to burn down their houses anyway, just for that. I was cold just thinking about it.
Still, I had to accelerate my schedule and leave tonight. I hated to do it, but I needed to be three towns over by the time they decided to kick the shit out of me. Bastards.
Amidst my wrathful musings I became aware of a presence at the door.
It was that kid. What had he seen? I ran the scene over again and realized he had been watching the end from the table he had been cleaning. Sloppy. He'd tell everybody. I couldn’t kill a kid the way I would've those guys in front, and I didn’t want to besides. Kids have always had a hold on me, and it pissed me off. It wasn't like I could remember why. Besides, I didn’t exactly mind the town knowing; it just meant I’d have a tougher time sneaking out, and I was tired enough that it bugged me.
“Sor?” He nudged the door open, but not all the way, I noticed. “I saw your tattoo. What do they mean? My ma said not to ask, but those men seemed pretty upset out there. I asked them and they said you was a wizard, but I didn’t think they were real. Are you a wizard? Are those tattoos your clan or something?” He spoke fast, like he thought I would cut him off, or cut off his head. “What are you doing?”
I spoke carefully to mask my distaste for his questions. “I am not a wizard. Wizards hide in their towers and ask questions nobody is curious about.” I hoped the dismissal would be clear.
It was not.
“If you aren’t a wizard, what are you?”
“What I am right now, kid, is packing, and what I’m going to be in a minute is gone. Scram.” I looked around and realized that aside from the bags I could clip to my belt, I had nothing else with me. Damn.
“Well, whatever you are, sor, I know those marks mean you're bound to help people-" that wasn’t true “-and those men out there maybe won’t tell you, but I will! See, sor, we're in mighty need of a wizard these days, on account of a monster been stealing the livestock and trashing the lumber yards and-" he slowed his speech a bit, but before I could get a word in he continued- “and I think it took the Granlenses daughter, only cause they won’t tell anyone where she went but I haven’t seen her in town at all and she used to come help me with my chores some days and it’s been a long while, maybe a month or so. Anyway, nobody’ll believe me when I tell em, and I haven’t seen it exactly, but I’m sure there’s a monster!”
“Kid, you know not every stroke of bad luck is a monster, right?” People don’t believe in monsters or magic until it’s convenient for them, which means they know nothing about it, which means most of the time they’re just making up stories to get me killed or run off, or else they’re just plain dumb and attribute every case of rainy weather to a made up beast.
“I know that! I just know there’s a monster around here! Look, sor, I’ll help you find it even, and-"
“I charge for my services and I don’t take kids on field trips when I work. Are you going to pay me?” Most of the time, threat of payment was enough to deter all but the most determined, or most superstitious, folk.
“I bet if you kill it the whole town will pitch in! Please, sor, I just wanna help out, and it seems like you could fix us all up only nobody wants to ask.” He wasn’t lying, I could tell, but kids are always seeing things that aren’t there. On the other hand, sometimes kids are better at seeing what’s right in front of them.
And when it turned out to be nothing, it meant I had an excuse to stay an extra night without getting an attempted beating, probably.
“Alright, kid. Where was this monster last?” Hired by a kid who probably couldn’t even get on a horse on his own. If anyone caught wind of this, I’d never hear the end of it.
