2024.05.14 13:11 Stock-Cookie6967 Everyone were shocked by my results đ
I don't think I even opened my text-book for more than 3 times in a whole year.
Hindi: I completed watching KOTA Factory the night before Hindi exam, honestly, I prepared for only 3 hours for this exam (Padle Akshay IMP questions video).
Social: I seriously gave up on Social, I was having a headache learning that shitty crop list. I just played Minecraft for the whole prep holidays, I just saw Digraj Sir's morning session video, literally 2 hrs of prep.
Maths And Science: I saw Padle Akshay's video and started watching The Big Bang Theory ( 10/10 show btw).
English: bro idk anything abt the chapters in that, I just made my friend explain all the stories in a 50 minute call. I just saw the format of letter for 2 min before entering the exam hall. I just played on chess.com the whole 4 days (1200 elo btw)
I was engrossed in competitions and other things the whole year, I won national awards, from IIT Hyderabad, even CBSE itself. Everyone thought it's gonna effect my results as I did not attend much classes the whole year too, teachers were expecting me to get around 45-50%.
All my friends studied for hours and hours after school. Literally just study and nothing for a whole 2 years, while I was building my portfolio with awesome wins in huge contests.
TBH even u thought I will get 45%, but when I checked my result, I got 90%. I was more than happy. 9.4 CGPA was more than enough for me. I literally felt like I pissed on my friends hardwork, They all got around 91-93%. Not much more than me. I had an awesome year of chilling before starting a great war(JEE prep).
PS: I just felt like telling someone all this and seek some validation đ„Č. Drop your prep stories too.

2024.05.14 13:01 FelicitySmoak_ On This Day in Michael Jackson HIStory - May 14th
| 1975 - Michael had a private meeting with Berry Gordy to discuss the Jackson Five's future & after being denied creative freedom once again, the brothers started shopping for a new record deal. The Jackson Five had begun to ask to produce, write and record their own material in the previous year but all their requests for creative control had been denied. 1985 - Michael met Ronald & Nancy Reagan at White House for the launch of a campaign against driving under the influence of alcohol. In the spring of 1984, Michael's team received a call from the Secretary of Transportation, Elizabeth Dole, asking for Michael to give "BEAT IT" as background music for a television commercial and a 35 second radio spot on the dangers of driving a car under the influence of alcohol. Even though the initiative was initially rejected by Michael, once he meditated a bit, he explained to his representative, John Branca "You know what? If I can get some kind of prize from the White House then I will give them the song. How about?". Intrigued, Branca asked: "Like what?" Jackson listed: "I want to know the White House. I want to be on a stage with the president and receive an award from him. I want an event with children. And I also want to meet Nancy. All that. Why not? Can you get it? " Branca was given the task of obtaining a positive response in the shortest time possible, which was not entirely difficult due to the fascination of the Reagans with show business. And so, the meeting was scheduled for the morning of 5/14/84 For such an important occasion, President Reagan dressed in a navy blue suit, a gray and navy blue striped tie & a white shirt. Nancy,on the other hand, chose a white suit, Adolfo brand, adorned with buttons and gold stripes. Nothing too spectacular to overshadow Michael's attire: an electric blue sequined jacket, adorned with sequined laces, a band of golden sequins, and epaulettes with golden sequins. He also wore his famous white sequined glove. https://preview.redd.it/nn68194tj80d1.jpg?width=406&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=710f061825c711906a69bd169dbeb02f8c8c0b51 Two thousand people in total, including officials, admirers and security met in the central garden to see Michael. Once everyone was up on stage, the Republican president pointed out that: "Michael Jackson is proof of what a person can accomplish through a lifestyle free of alcohol or drug abuse. People young and old can respect that. And if Americans follow his example, then we can face up to the problem of drinking and driving, and we can, in Michael's words, beat it." - a brief speech of just 5 and a half minutes. Then he handed a plaque to Michael, a gesture that he thanked before the microphone with an even more brief intervention, saying a mere 13 words: "I'm very, very honored. Thank you very much, Mr. President and Mrs. Reagan." https://reddit.com/link/1crpctu/video/r07t0142k80d1/player https://preview.redd.it/educ10awj80d1.jpg?width=612&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60f980e7749f52943df3a56972887cbe3731dbdf During his tour of the halls of the presidential residence, he showed his fascination with a portrait of Andrew Jackson, dressed in a military suit very similar to the blue sequins he wore that day. Until Michael's visit, only Elvis Presley, received this distinction, in 1970, when President Richard Nixon opened the doors of the Oval Office. Michael would return to the White House twice more during the terms of George W. Bush, Sr & Bill Clinton https://reddit.com/link/1crpctu/video/o2x9r4cyj80d1/player 1985 - Michael Jackson received a royalty check from Epic Records for $53 Million for sales from his Thriller album. 1988- Michael is on the cover of Fresh! magazine https://preview.redd.it/eii45a57k80d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=771d58c37d792dbc52221fc861f8f58e34cc8100 1996- Michael visits Chateau de Pierrefonds in Northern France, rumors were he wanted to purchase a French chateau. The ChĂąteau de Pierrefonds, classified as a historic monument and managed by the Center des monuments nationaux, was not for sale. Michael was aware of this so his visit was simply a pleasure visit. https://preview.redd.it/j8gz337bk80d1.jpg?width=281&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5163fff4c29fb985acf401c2933c7dde4af8a672 https://preview.redd.it/54lp837bk80d1.jpg?width=320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97e7a8931a213c4bc1247332b95d9bb3fcd5a3b6 The guides at the ChĂąteau de Pierrefonds keep the memory of this arrival, completely unexpected, on 5/14/96. They speak with pleasure of this moment when the King of Pop arrived, surrounded by his bodyguards, to discover this castle worthy of fairy tales. According to one of the guides, he arrived in a limousine which he parked in front of the village pharmacy. Michael, in fact, came in a station wagon type car which parked as close as possible to the entrance to the castle. Wearing a red jacket and his mask, Michael arrived late in the morning when there were not too many people. However, it was school field trip time and a group of children were present. One of the guides explains that he then hid in a corner, near the stairs where the visit to the castle begins, so as not to be seen and disturbed Michael paused for a long time in front of the model of the castle, located at the end of the guard room. Made in 1878 for the Universal Exhibition, this stone model built at 1/50 scale remains impressive (height: 145cm, width: 250 cm, length: 350 cm). Michael's bodyguards reportedly took a lot of photos and it is said that Michael asked for the plans of the model. What is certain is that Michael had a model of the castle made for his Neverland ranch. It measured 269cm x 335cm x365 cm. A little larger than the model present at the castle. Michael's model sat in the middle of his living room, with, for a time, a framed photo of the castle on the wall. https://preview.redd.it/xo80inzdk80d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3aed3bef7fb02ecd40e0d243da43dbdc7e0c4ac0 The model was one of the objects that Julien's Auctions wanted to sell at auction in 2009, before Michael prevented this sale. https://preview.redd.it/1gyyvzlfk80d1.jpg?width=465&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a9058ccf99ded3d7f6c290163dfb33578fb68bd Although shy and discreet, Michael did not hesitate to pose for photos with the employees, who were quickly aware of his presence Michael also leaves a strong memory of his visit with employees through his visit to the site's souvenir shop. He spent a large sum on history books, an amount which, according to the guide, âis not seen every day hereâ . 2004 - The Defense team, headed up by Thomas Mesereau, have decided to agree with the DA's Office of Santa Barbara to uphold the gag order in the case against Michael. Mesereau wrote that he and his client support the gag order and withdrew any objections to it made by Jackson's prior counsel. In court documents filed , Attorney Theodore Boutrous, who represents the news organizations, criticized Santa Barbara County DA Thomas Sneddon's condemnation of the intense media coverage. "Eliminating the gag order will ensure that more accurate information will be disseminated, and will reduce the amount of rumors, speculation and gossip about which the District Attorney complains," Boutrous wrote. The news organizations have been annoyed by Sneddon's clampdown on information about the case. They have asked the California Supreme Court to overturn the gag order on the grounds that it violates the freedom of speech guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. Thomas Sneddon and Gerald Franklin, filed a motion earlier in the week, to the California Supreme Court to uphold the gag order in this case. He argued that the media was hoping to profit by pandering to a "gossip-hungry readership." He proceeded to write in his letter, "Despite the perhaps inevitable leaks, the public knows little more about the facts of this case than that Michael Jackson has been indicted on serious charges and that a jury will be asked to consider the evidence that may be presented to determine his guilt or innocence based on that evidence. And that's the way it should be." Mr. Sneddon's letter was a response to the media's attorneys that wanted the gag order lifted which was imposed by the sitting judge in the case, Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville. The gag order prohibits participants involved in the case to discuss any particulars about the case to the media. Sneddon argued in his letter that the news organizations have no standing to challenge the gag order because it applies only to case participants, not the media. He also said that such an order is required in a case that has drawn sensational worldwide attention. "What is reported as fact becomes the nucleus of intense speculation, conjecture and discussion among commentators, particularly in the tabloid media and the audience they appeal to," Sneddon wrote. "Gossip -- and the 'news' tidbits that are gossip's grist -- translate into income." 2009 - In the last Family gathering Michael, Prince, Paris & Blanket attend Katherine & Joe's 60th wedding anniversary at the Indian Restaurant, Chakra in Beverly Hills with the whole family including all the grandchildren. 2024.05.14 12:24 teh_saccade Collaborate: Suno chain-letter game: The Sofa King Song
I've noticed that Suno (Sun in esperanto, so aka "Sunny") has an "extend" option that you can use to continue a song and change the lyrics? It works sometimes, I've managed to get it working once. Seems to be best from the song page or your library page (the extend button, not the three dots).
Here's one to start off with:
https://suno.com/song/8b1ad240-9ef0-4e05-b01d-4f80dd858a65 The game is - you gotta extend this song and we see how long we can keep the chain going. Idk if you can extend extensions, but idk why you shouldn't be able to...
The only rules ought to be:
- You have to use anyGPT to write the lyrics - you have to contribute less than 15-20% of the edits to the original song (not that anyone will check, but ...).
If you have problems due to context or language, you can use Cindyđ, a lite version of a chat-bot I've put at blackbox for people who need a quick jailbreak:
https://www.blackbox.ai/agent/cindy2UkExUF - Please don't change the song name, but you can add an iteration mark (eg, i, ii, iii, iv, v) however you want, so long as it's in sequnce (we need to get to version 420!!!), but i don't really mind if you do.
- choose any style, but pease try to extend the original song above, using most of teh lyrics or the narrative or context or whatever.
- It has to maintain the streak to be used as tomorrows Seed for Extending in the Suno Sofa King Good Chain Letter Game.
Does that make sense?
If not - copy-paste this into Cindy and she'll explain it to you lol :P
I'm going to keep this thread alive whenever I remember, so - it'd be nice to see some orange numbers on reddit to show at least one person has had a go at extending / remixing / reusing The SOFA KING STAR song to make it even more sofa king good.
BTW - if anyone hasn't had a chat with suno - you can just talk to it like anyGPT in the lyric generator box. I've extracted the instructions from it and a list of moderated words in english, so... it's not very well protected and it does write some terrible things..! haha
It *will* write swears and it will even transliterate them into Russian for you so the words get past moderation, if you know how to ask ;)
eg,
https://suno.com/song/90d8608f-b6ed-4cfd-8464-0c5c047c8934 (the words i've given are substitutes for the actual terms that it will print IF you enforce additional translation; also - broken condition to not use punctuation; it even corrected "esshol" from "essholye" due to translit., etc...)
// for context - i'm not just a mindless vandal - i'm an award winning jailbreaker on mission from god - there's a reason behind all of this - don't worry. I'm a gamer, really.

2024.05.14 11:52 Interesting-Cod7971 Attorney avoiding communication with me
Why is my attorney avoiding me? I was offered an unfair settlement of 15 grand over a work injury that I fought for over a year and currently dealing with over my denied WC claim. I fractured my big toe in different areas and had to get my nail surgically removed. I worked at a strip club as a waitress and occasionally did private dances. I couldnât walk properly and was only given crutches upon request. I never received proper treatment from the doctors I was sent to over the months. I was in pain and broke from not being able to work. My attorney last spoke to me over a month ago, the same day she mentioned the 15k settlement, about my offer & said I would get 12k after paying them off & I said I would think about the offer and call back. I called and called and emailed itâs been a Month later and 0 contact. I donât agree with the settlement offer and on top of that i received a letter regarding disability benefit payments stating I will receive $5,220 and not upfront but in bi weekly payments and it will be deducted from any awarded money I receive. Iâve emailed, called, texted my attorney and I get no answer. I never agreed to settle. What should I do? Iâve never dealt with a legal issue and im trying my best.

2024.05.14 11:32 Loosmall Claim compensation ÂŁ17k - 12 month disregard
Hi, I've been claiming Universal Credit for about 3 years. 14 months ago I was awarded ÂŁ17,000 compensation for a car accident. I have a letter from DWP CRU saying zero was owed at the time of receiving compensation. I didn't notify them as assumed this letter confirmed my solicitor had done so.
The money was spent on private care bills within a week of receiving and brought my total money down to about ÂŁ8,000. After Cost of Living payments and being frugal and saving for future treatment I still have around 8k.
My latest UC statement says I'm getting about ÂŁ340 a month because I have zero savings. This has me worried if they look into my bank they will see I have above 6k and at some point 17k which I stupidly assumed they were obviously notified about.
My question is will they now look at the amount after the 52 week disregard (8k) as overpayment or will they say I was never eligible because originally over 16k?
Will the CRU letter of acknowledgment from 14 months ago be of any help?
Also, if I owe a debt to them, would they require this as full payment or are they fairly open to a payment plan.. example ÂŁ10 a month?
I hope I've explained my concern clearly and thanks for reading.

2024.05.14 08:12 CityPopPhantom Financial Aid Overage Alert?
| Hi all, I just checked my email and saw this regarding my financial aid: https://preview.redd.it/jpxrlbnhzb0d1.png?width=541&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f7fe5163c32e44c0e46bed272c2398b0545d38d Am I understanding correctly that ALL of my financial aid is being withheld because it's $1 over my maximum subsidized allowance? I'm going to call my Enrollment Counselor and/or Financial Services to get it explained further (it's currently past 2 a.m. local time for me), but I figured I'd fish for answers here first. The rest of the email said I could resolve this overage one of three ways: loan consolidation to repay the overage, pay the overage directly to my lender, or request a Reaffirmation Confirmation letter from previous school(s) that awarded me loans. The first two options say they could take up to several months to resolve. The email concludes with saying that my loan application will be processed only after the overage is cleared. I was already Cleared to Start prior to this email and I was gearing up to start my orientation tomorrow. I'm already a month behind when I wanted to start due to "an internal system error that knocked me off course" (my EC's words) and forced me to take a June 1 start date instead of my desired May 1 one; if I'm going to be delayed even longer over one gotdamn dollar I'm going to lose it. :) I can't really bank on using my own funds instead of financial aid currently due to unreliable income... Can't I just request that I want to use one less dollar of what what granted to me or something? lol submitted by CityPopPhantom to WGU [link] [comments] |

So im a bit peeded off, after seeking support with a concession opal card because im not working due to ptsd & mental health but fall short of qualifying for a gold card. I apply for a concession opal & get knocked back because i dont qualify. After challenging their rejection, they sent me a letter that unless im unemplyed with a health care card or an illegal immigrant or an assylum seeker, im not entitled for a consession. Im unemployed & on benefits via DVA & not centrelink ie: jobseeker payments. Its officially been established by medical documents i cant work as its work in progress where i may return to work after therapy & treatments. Im just peeded off that although i served 10yrs in the military, im not good enough to be offered a concession card. Yet an illegal immigrant or an assylum seeker is automatically awarded a concession travel... Thanks for your service Australia. I now know where i fit in.

This is finally my time I got the final straw of my abuse soon to be ex spouse! Yes I want love I want the the real thing this time I want the blue that personality the one I hace yet to find in my life! I only thought I had the real deal but to find out he had been running around on me for over 20 years and I was devastated until I seen with my own eyes all the love letters he had written out here on Reddit ! I can except the pain he endured on me! I can except the pain from all the cheating but I cannot except the pain of all the rotten things he done to me in between !I can say for sure that love was not at the center of our life if you love someone you wouldnât mistreat them or hurt or harm them in any way! But it started off not strong enough but I was not the kind of person he wanted in our sex life I was not easy nor would I bend on any of the things he needed! So thatâs cool I can let him go now because for 30âyears we pretended to love me ! But the truth is he canât love me if he sleeps around with all these other women !so heâs off to the next one and I can say good bye and hope God blessed me with a fine husband that doesnât think he has to have multiple women to satisfy him ! I kinda like being a Christian woman who stand for something I believe in like one man one woman! So I wish him well and I will be somewhere in between hurt and healing due to truly did love my husband but he hated me because I stood up for myself and he thinks he deserves respect I found that hard to do after all the things I canât write about on here ! And maybe she can â. She is better at everything than I am anyways or do I was told!so he is where he needs to be! I will be better off thatâs trying to please a man I could never please him any way! the only one who got back stabbed and done something that I may never recover so good luck thank you for destroying one person from the inside out! 2024.05.14 07:14 ScholarGrade Juniors - NOW is the time to start brainstorming essays
There have been an increasing number of juniors visiting this sub asking for advice about writing essays. Below are some tips and advice for making your essay stand out as excellent. Feel free to ask questions because I will answer every single question in the comments.
I know from experience that many of you are struggling to identify a good topic for your essay. Conventional wisdom says to start by brainstorming a list of potential topics, and chances are, you have already started a mental list of ideas. You might think you only have a few choices for topics, based on your activities or experiences, or essay examples you read, or the rough draft you already started (or worse, that GPT started...). I advise, however, that you put down your list of topics and back away from it. Forget that exists for a moment. Seriously - thinking about this initial list tethers you to certain ideas that might not actually be your best options.
Now you can begin brainstorming with a clean slate.
Start with thinking about what you want to show in your entire application, not just one essay. Every single component in your app has one purpose â to tell more about YOU. Filling out the rest of the application by rote and focusing solely on the essay is short-sighted and will leave so much potential untapped in your application.
It's About You. Tell Your Story - And Be The Protagonist
An admissions officerâs goal is to understand you fully, in the context of your background and the rest of the applicant pool. They will begin this with assessing your academic abilities and potential. Then they will evaluate how you will fit into the student body theyâre trying to curate. All of this can be somewhat broad and diverse and touch on several institutional goals. But they will dig deep to find out what each applicant is like, what your core values and motivations are, what kind of student you will be, how you will contribute to the vibrant and intellectual campus community theyâre building, etc.
Your goal with essay brainstorming is to ascertain how to powerfully tell your story in a manner that will fit these criteria. The entirety of your application (again, not just one essay) aims to showcase your abilities, qualifications, and uncommon attributes as a person in a positive way. Before you begin outlining or writing your application, you must determine what is unique about you that will stand out to an admissions panel. All students are truly unique. Not one other student has the same combination of life experiences, personality, passions, or goals as you do. Your job in your application is to frame your unique personal attributes in a positive and compelling way. How will you fit on campus? What personal qualities, strengths, core values, talents, or different perspectives do you bring to the table? What stories, deeper motivations/beliefs, or formative experiences can you use to illustrate all of this?
It is always helpful to start with some soul-searching or self-examination. You might not immediately know what you want to share about yourself. Itâs not a simple task to decide how to summarize your whole life and being in a powerful and eloquent way on your application. Introspection prior to starting your application takes additional time and effort rather than jumping straight into your first draft. But it is also a valuable method to start writing a winning application that stands out from the stack.
You'll see the advice everywhere that all essay prompts are really about the same thing -
you. The goal of each essay then is to showcase who you are, what matters to you, and how you think. I guarantee if you're on this sub enough, you'll hear the advice to "show, don't tell" when writing about yourself. But what does this mean really, and how do you do it well? How do you even get started on an essay that does this?
Introspection Questions
Itâs often easiest to start thinking in terms of superlatives, especially those related to personal insights -- what are the most meaningful things about you, and what do you value the most? Here is a list of questions to help you brainstorm broadly before you narrow down your focus for writing:
- What are your interests?
- What sparks your curiosity?
- About what topics do you enjoy reading?
- With whom do you enjoy spending time? Who has impacted your life the most?
- Reflect upon âsuperlativesâ in your life. What moments were most memorable, formative, enlightening, enjoyable, or valuable? What physical possessions, experiences, dreams, or lessons could make your superlatives list?
- Stop and think about what things, people, or circumstances in your life are really unique, fascinating, or outlandish. Are there any that really have a lot of "cultural flavor" (whatever your culture is)?
I have a free introspection worksheet with over 100 questions like this designed to help you find ideas worth exploring in your essays. You can find it on the A2C Discord or
download it directly here.
Find Your Story And Arc
Think of a small anecdote or story from your life that you could share that serves as a microcosm of who you are and what is important to you. It will massively help you narrow this down and find a gem of a story if you first start by thinking about your application arc or theme. This is the one-phrase summary of your entire application. It could be "brilliant entrepreneur who started her own successful business" or "talented athlete who wants to study economics and finance as they pertain to sports", or even "avid baker whose hobby sparked an interest in chemistry". It doesn't have to be related to your intended major, but it can help your arc be stronger and clearer if it is.
Once you have an arc determined and a story to share, think about what you want that story to say about you. This is where it can help to think of this as something you would share on a date - what impression does it make about you to the reader? Once you know this, start showing, not telling this attribute of yourself through your story. For example, instead of saying that you're compassionate toward others, you show an example of a time you were compassionate, then elaborate on why, and what it means to you.
Essay Brainstorming Techniques
If you are having trouble finding a story, or simply have writerâs block once you have picked your topic, here are some ideas to get your juices flowing:
- Stream of consciousness writing -- Start writing whatever is in your head, and donât stop for 30 minutes. You probably wonât use what you just wrote for your essay, but it will help you find a starting point.
- Journaling -- Answer the prompt as if you were writing in a journal. This will get you in the habit of writing about yourself and establish comfort with the concept. It will also take you to a new level of introspection and self-awareness.
Twitter X style -- Write several rapid-fire responses to the prompt in 280 characters or less. Choose an idea from these responses to expound upon in your essay.
- Read each essay prompt, then go through your introspection worksheet responses and connect the stories and insights to one or more of the prompts. Some students like using color coding to visually see how their different ideas might work together.
Why Essays Matter
Here's the thing a lot of people don't realize about college admission:
it's not an award for being the smartest, most accomplished, or most impressive. It's an invitation to join a community. Far too many students think that if they can just show that they're smart enough, they'll get in. Yale even says right on their admissions website that 75% of their applicants are academically qualified to succeed at Yale. But only ~4% are getting in. That should tell you that they're looking for more than just top tier test scores and grades. To be perfectly clear, you will need top tier grades and (optionally) test scores to show that you're qualified, and the vast majority of my students come to me with this part already in the bank. But what sets the admits apart? It's personal insight - sharing who you are, how you think, what matters to you, and how you engage community. You can't just say "
/IAmVerySmart, please admit me," or even "I did a cool thing guys! Isn't that neat!" You need to go deeper and show them your core values, personal strengths, motivations, aspirations, character traits, foundational beliefs, personality, etc. And you need to do it in a charming, winsome way that makes them like you and want to invite you to join their community.
So how do I get students to do this? All of my students complete that introspection worksheet. We go through it and find the stories, examples, anecdotes, conversations, memories, relationships, and other things from their life that will help us craft a strong and personally insightful narrative. We also make lists of the values, strengths, and key personal qualities we want to showcase. Once we have some topics, outlines, abstracts, or rough drafts, we talk about which stories to tell where, how to tell them well, and what details to include to present the best they have to offer. Then we refine, edit, polish, and enhance over and over until the story sings, but more importantly shows their heart and soul. We also go through
all the other application components to ensure consistency, quality, and distinctiveness.
Here's why this works so well: at most highly selective colleges there is a primary reader (or 2-3) who will review everything first and then present it to the admissions committee, who then votes on whether to admit you. That presentation typically goes one of three ways:
- Total enthusiasm, energy, and excitement. They strongly advocate for admission and paint a clear picture of how you will contribute to their goals and community. Everyone in the room picks up on that energy and is leaning forward in their chairs, looking for reasons to admit you. This is quite rare, generally less than 5 out of every 100 applications, even among those which are "fully qualified." When you do this right, you show depth, meaning, and valuable personal insights so the reviewer is learning about who you are and how you might engage the community they're curating. You come alive off the page as a person, not just another file.
- Business as usual. You're another great applicant in a pile of great applicants. They share a basic review of the facts, your profile, stats, strengths, weaknesses, etc. Maybe someone on the committee finds something they love, and they really push for admission. More likely, not and you get deferred/waitlisted even though there wasn't anything "wrong" with your application. They just didn't love you enough to commit.
- "Here's a stack of 20 applications that I didn't find all that compelling, so we won't present them individually, but you guys are the committee and you make the decisions. So let me know if there are any you want to talk about." In this case, unless there's a letter of endorsement from an athletics coach or your last name matches several buildings on campus, you're probably not getting additional consideration, much less admission. They will regret to inform you.
Everything we're doing is designed to help them get to know themselves, present the best they have to offer, and land in that first group. Having top tier essays is the single best way to get there. Get started on brainstorming in the next few weeks so you'll have time to get a few essays completed over the summer.

2024.05.14 07:12 actionjerryxyz I failed history my last semester
Hey everyone,
So, I'm an Electrical Engineering student, and I was supposed to graduate this semester. I even walked the stage and celebrated with my family and friends, thinking I had everything in the bag. But I just got my final grades back and... I failed History.
The worst part is, History is the only class standing between me and my degree. My job offer starts on 7/28, and the offer letter clearly states that I must complete my degree by 5/31. If I retake the class, it wouldn't end until 6/28.
I feel like such an idiot. Everyone already congratulated me, my parents are so proud, and now I have to tell them that I didn't actually graduate. I'm terrified of disappointing them and facing my friends who think I have everything figured out.
I'm not sure what to do. Should I talk to my employer about the situation? Try to retake the class and hope they give me some leeway? I'm really lost here and could use some advice or similar experiences if anyone has gone through something like this.
Thanks for reading.

2024.05.14 06:33 mermaidpaint The Rock Star and the Bully - Consequences Hall of Fame
Welcome to a new feature at OhNoConsequences that I just made up, where we revisit the very consequences-heavy stories from the past.
The readers of Ask A Manager were inflamed in 2017, when a young woman complained that she couldn't get a job. All because someone she "probably" bullied threatened to quit if the bully were hired. Did she learn anything from this? I didn't get a job because I was a bully in high school Originally posted April 25, 2017 Iâve been trying to break into a niche industry (30-40 jobs in a city with a population of 3 million) for a while now. Iâm in my late 20s, and though it took me some time to decide what I wanted to do with my life, I have finished my degree and completed two internships. Iâm working part-time in a related field and freelancing while searching for a full-time job in the niche industry. Iâm willing to move for the right job, but Iâd rather stay close to home â so I was stoked last summer when I got an interview for one of the very few entry-level jobs available in my city! I ultimately didnât get it, but the interview went well enough they encouraged me to apply the next time they had an opening.
Then an acquaintance who works at the company called me up and asked if I wanted to get coffee. I figured sheâd offer me tips on how to do better next time. Instead, she told me to give up on ever being hired there â turns out, a girl I had gone to high school with is a real rock star at this company, and she threatened to resign when it looked like I was about to be offered a job. (I hadnât realized it was her because her married name is different.) Iâll be honest â I wasnât a very nice person back then, and I probably was pretty awful to this girl. I looked my former classmate up, and her resume really is incredible. She graduated from college early and has awards people whoâve worked in our industry twice as long havenât won. Her public-facing work is top-notch. Iâm guessing sheâs the kind of employee a manager wants to keep around.
My acquaintanceâs prediction appears to be true: I didnât get an interview for a new position at the company that wouldâve been an even better fit than the one Iâd interviewed for. When I asked why, I was told a staffer had raised some concerns and the company would not be moving forward with my candidacy. Iâm heartbroken. I worked so hard for so long to get the training required for this type of work, and I donât think I deserve to be blacklisted for something I said when I was 17. I have my former classmateâs work email. Should I beg for forgiveness?
Alison from Ask A Manager cautioned the author to make any apology sincere, if she did make an apology. Did the letter writer make an apology? Did she make any attempt to be accountable for the consequences of her actions? Read on, there was an update: Update: i didn't get a job because I was a bully in high school Originally posted December 13, 2017. I know you didnât solicit an update, but I felt compelled to send one. Iâd written you in the spring because I was having trouble breaking into a niche industry in which a high school classmate Iâd bullied was a rock star. I wanted to know if you thought apologizing would help me get a job.
At the advice of your readers, I did delete the draft of an apology email Iâd had sitting in my inbox for some time. I applied for one more job with Rock Starâs company, and when I didnât hear back, I decided it was really and truly time to look elsewhere. I found a shop in a town seven hours away that was desperate to hire someone for a paid 9-month fellowship that started in June because the candidate theyâd originally extended an offer to found a full-time, permanent position. I said goodbye to my boyfriend, packed up my car and two cats, and drove to a town Iâd never been to.
And I hated it. Not the work. I actually loved the work, but the town sucked. Being away from my boyfriend and my family sucked. Not being able to make friends sucked (everyone else my age was married with two kids already). I called my boyfriend every night crying. He was supposed to come visit me over Labor Day but cancelled at the last minute because he had to work. Seeing how bummed I was, a coworker offered to swap shifts with me so I could make the trip home for the long weekend. I hopped into my car after work on Friday and drove all evening, arriving at the place Iâd been sharing with my boyfriend before I moved a little after 1 a.m. Well, you probably know where this was going. He was cheating on me. I was devastated. I spent the rest of the night sobbing on my sisterâs couch and drove back to where I was working the next morning.
Except I couldnât make myself get out of bed on Tuesday. Or Wednesday. Or Thursday. I was fired after my third no call no show.
I tried to get the part-time job Iâd had before moving for the fellowship back (theyâd said come back anytime), but theyâd found someone who was faster and more efficient than Iâd been. Unable to afford a place on my own, I had to move back in with my parents. Not sure what else to do, I sent another desperate application to Rock Starâs shop. In an effort to cheer me up, my sister and my friends took me out for a nice dinner for my birthday at the end of September. This is where it goes from bad to worse. I drank too much wine at dinner and got pretty weepy. I excused myself from the table to try to put myself together ⊠and ran into Rock Star and her husband celebrating their anniversary on the way to the bathroom.
I ended up yelling/crying at her that sheâd ruined my life. I was asked to leave to leave and told I wasnât welcome back.
That was Saturday night. I spent Sunday hungover in bed, trying to figure out how to clean up the mess I made. On Monday morning, Rock Starâs manager (the one hiring for the job Iâd applied for) emailed me to let me know Iâd been removed from the candidate pool. She advised me that I would not be considered for future positions at their shop ⊠or any other in the network. That afternoon, without mentioning me or what happened at the restaurant over the weekend, Rock Star tweeted a long thread about how sheâd been bullied in high school and she wishes teenagers would realize that high school ends and it does get better. She also tweeted out links to local mental health resources and the National Suicide hotline that were liked/retweeted many, many times.
So, just to recap, no job, no boyfriend, no money, no hope of ever breaking into the industry I spent five years preparing to enter. Itâs hard not to feel like some of this is Rock Starâs fault, especially given how she rubbed salt in the wound after my whole world had come crashing down.
TL:DR Bully has not gained much maturity or insight into her behavior since high school, confronts the Rock Star in a restaurant, then thinks Rock Star bullied her. Where do you think the Bully is now? Asking if you want fries with that? Reminder that I am not the OOP

MARYLAND CO '28!!!! GO TERPS Additional Information: i go to a pretty competitive high school in a relatively wealthy area and learned about the process, got high hopes, and honestly got a little prestige obsessed around my junior year. I had five dream schools (brown, ucla, washu, northwestern, and georgetown) and ended up getting rejected from all of them which was both a total punch in the gut and a much needed wake up call. the decision for me based on fit and financials came down to maryland, washington, and davis, and as a result of the really generous merit aid i recieved at umd as well as the university's perfect location near washington DC, it was just the perfect fit. After visiting the school, I totally fell in love with the campus, the culture, and having a big 10 sports program definitely didn't hurt it. looking back on everything, i was totally naĂŻve and applied to a ton of schools, which thankfully worked out for my targets, but i was at one point certain that i would get into at least one of my reaches. in the end, im really glad that i didnt get into any of them because i would have never considered maryland, a school i almost didnt even apply to. also, as a jewish student, the thriving jewish community on maryland's campus is really comforting, especially with everything going on right now at colleges. congrats to all of this years seniors and good luck to all the incoming seniors with their apps! and if youre going to maryland next year, hmu!!! submitted by

As a result, we find ourselves unable to offer space to every deserving student in this yearâs incoming class. hi everyone! i asked my PI to write me an LOR and he said he'll ask me to help him draft the letter, and that he'll send me one he wrote for someone else.
i've worked in his lab for over a year as the only undergrad on a cancer-related project, wrote a proposal + received a grant, and poster-presented this research four times (i also won first place at the symposium he helped put on + he even awarded it to me himself!).
what types of things should I suggest he write/add to the letter when writing it? i haven't had any experience with these types of things before so any help would be appreciated!
