2024.05.15 00:46 SPstandsFor [WTS] Tegris EDC/Inner Belt V2. Coyote/Black. Various Sizes. $40

Timestamp: https://imgur.com/a/gfbzcTb
PLEASE DONT USE YOUR PANTS SIZE! DO NOT USE OTHER COMPANIES BELT SIZING!
Back again with the remainder of my belts. I only have 6 stainless buckles left so these are the last for sale until more come in. The black still uses tan webbing, but only a tiny part of that is showing. There's an example of what it would look like in the pics.
V2 has Velcro going almost end to end and a tapered tail, while V1 has 1 inch of bare webbing near the loop and a squares off tail. Comparisons can be seen in pics. Black belts still uses the tan webbing, but now the Velcro loop goes almost end to end so only small parts show up.
Up for grabs is 6x 1.5" Coyote/Black Tegris EDC/inner belts. $40 each shipped to your door. Buying multiple will knock $4 off since shipping is included. PayPal F&F or Venmo only. I am now nearly out of materials, so if you fuck up your sizing, I might not be able to make a replacement for a long time. SO DONT MESS UP YOUR SIZING!
Do you hate how flimsy EDC belts are? Have you ever bought a belt marketed as "super rigid!" only to find it super floppy? Do you hate the $3 inner belt that shipped with your $200 battle belt? Are those cheap plastic loop buckles a pain while in the restroom? Well, boy do I have the thing for you!
This belt is made with a 6 layer Tegris reinforcement that goes the entire width of the belt, and anchored to heavy duty belt webbing. This means that your guns don't sag when carrying or during draws. An outside layer of loop Velcro means that you can throw your battle belt on in no time at all. The stonewashed G-Hook is made from 304 stainless and makes taking a whizz and adjustment super easy.
These are sewn by me in Texas with materials that are all sourced from US manufacturers AND Berry compliant. Everything from the buckle down to the thread is American made. And all just for $40 a pop!
I honestly believe this is the most rigid EDC belt out there. Like, no joke guys, this belt is stupid stiff. Like Mexican blue pill stiff.
HOW TO KNOW YOUR SIZING!
DO NOT USE YOUR PANTS SIZE! Pants sizes have too many variables, so use the actual measurement of your waist in inches. When measuring, include your holsters for your pistol and mags. If you're in between sizes but on the higher end, move up a size. For example, someone who is a 35" or 36" would get the 34"-38" belt.
If you don't have a measuring tape, wear your normal belt outside the loops and make a note of where the belt meets. Then measure it with your ruler to know your approximate size.
I am now nearly out of materials, so if you fuck up your sizing, I might not be able to make a replacement for a long time. SO DONT MESS UP YOUR SIZING!
Sizes (in inches) are:
COYOTE
32"-36"
34"-38"
BLACK
28"-32"
30"-34"
32"-36"
36"-40"
The buckle and loop might be a bit stiff so here's a handy guide on the best way to put them on. It'll break in after getting the buckle on a few times.

2024.05.15 00:28 bigfishbunny Should I go to small claims?

I will try to keep it short but it's still going to be long. I rented a townhouse in Nicholasville Kentucky. It is managed by a property management company. The same people that own the management company also own the property under a different business name. It had a musty smell. I deep cleaned the carpets five times before I moved in. Got an insane amount of animal fur out of it. After moving in my guinea pigs quickly developed a respiratory problem and died. My child developed pneumonia and we couldn't figure out why. When inspecting the central HVAC, I discovered the inside of it was completely covered in mold. I also found mold growing on the ceiling of my child's closet. You could see where it had previously been painted over and the mold had continued to grow through the paint. The inside of the fuse box also had mold growing in it. I documented everything with photos. My child and I left the unit to stay at my mother's home until the unit was safe. The management company sent someone out to clean the HVAC. That person rubbed the mold around some but did nothing to clean it. I asked someone from the management company to come and look. They sent their maintenance guy out. He assured me they would take care of it. He said he would put a realtor's key on the door so they could come in to fix it. I asked him not to do that and requested he just tell me when they were coming so I could be there. The next morning I arrived at the house at 8:00 a.m.. I had not received any notification of anyone coming to the house. The maintenance guy had put a realtor's key on the door against my wishes. There were people in my home when I arrived. They re-painted over the mold on the ceiling and cleaned the mold out of the fuse box. The HVAC unit will still filled with mold. They handed me a letter from the management claiming I caused the mold with improper use of the air conditioning unit. I paid out of pocket to have mold testing done, which found higher than normal amounts of mold in the air. I presented the results to the management company and requested mold remediation services be performed. I also requested they remove the realtor's key from the home and that they inform me anytime someone was going to be coming. Over the next couple of weeks they refused and continued to send people over with a key who would just come in my home without even knocking. I felt like this was some sort of intimidation tactic. I spoke to a free legal advisor who informed me the city of Nicholasville was somehow exempt from regular landlord laws. After enough fighting with the management company, we decided to end the lease. It was agreed that I would move out and be relieved of any future rent responsibilities. After I left I received an email with a bill for $2,800. They were charging me for mold remediation claiming I caused the mold from improper use of the air conditioner, whatever that means. I responded by telling her I disagree. She then emailed me saying "in that case I will charge you for the rest of the lease" and sent me an additional bill for more than $7,000. I simply ignored them. 6 months later I had a hit on my credit for a $7,000 collection. I contested it and it was lowered down to the $2,800 she originally attempted to charge me. The whole thing feels like extortion. I documented every interaction with them in great detail and have plenty of photos. I also have a paper signed by the management stating the lease has been voided. I'm afraid if I go to small claims, they will bring in lawyers that will be able to screw me over somehow with a counter suit. I just want their fraudulent claim removed from my credit. Any advice would be great.

2024.05.15 00:25 aMercyMainBTW Hanzo's "buff" is actually a nerf! / What are they thinking?

Dragonstrike's speed (the dragons themselves) has been increased to 15 m/s. On paper, this looks like a buff, but in practice, it's actually a nerf.
Think about it, Dragonstrike reaches an area faster, but also passes faster, and in turn will deal less total damage from start to finish. Dragonstrike is already very easy to just face tank because of the healing and damage resistance most compositions have. Since it's "in play" for less time, this glaring weakness of the ultimate is just exasperated. They said they wanted to make it "less of a zoning tool", but that's just ridiculous. That was really the only thing Dragonstrike was used for (and it's not even that good at it).
If you wanted to make it a flat buff, they would've had to proportionally increase Dragonstrike's length so that it's "in play" in one area for the same amount of time. Basically, 12 to 15 is a 25% increase, so the length of Dragonstrike would also need to be increased by 25% (Which would make it 50 meters long, instead of 40).
However, I really think there were better ways to buff the ultimate. If you REALLY wanted to buff Dragonstrike, the best solution would be-
Among other things about the patch, which is more what people are angry about... The changes to Hanzo isn't what people were asking for, and two other heroes were buffed because "They were seriously affected by Season 9's health changes" and "Now that everyone has more health, they can do more damage".
Yet, they didn't apply that same logic to Hanzo. The community as a whole made it perfectly clear what they wanted, and they didn't listen (again). I believe that Hanzo's only strength before was in one-tap, and, yeah, it would be wise to bring power and more options into other parts of his kit...
However, most people were asking for the "bare minimum" change, which was to reduce projectile size (well, just revert the entire global projectile size change), and bump up arrow damage to 125 so he can one-shot the average hero again. With Season 9's changes, If they have one point of overhealth they live (which is becoming more common with each patch).
It's like Blizzard doesn't even care.

2024.05.15 00:19 debt_haver I have growing legal debt and will have student debt soon. 45k in savings, how to navigate?

throwaway account <3, NY Metropolitan Area based
Hello personalfinance!
I am currently a senior in college that is looking down the barrel of some relatively (?) serious debt that I would like help navigating. Let me lay out my situation as best I can below:
Got into some legal trouble last year, and it is still pending, so lawyer fees will likely increase, but right now they are sitting at just over $22k. I did not take out a loan, but this was money lent to me by my father. We sent a retainer of $25k that we have been eating at, but with the case pending this could end up being anywhere from $25k to $50k. We have not sorted out a payment plan yet, as the focus was and has been on making sure I am legally okay.
Despite being a senior in college, I am returning in the fall to finish some classes I need to graduate. Tuition + living (and food) expenses are looking to be around just above $17k. The bulk of that ($14k) is really my tuition. I will be subletting from a friend on campus so my living expenses are already far lower than the norm for my university/area. My 4 years of college have already been covered, I just have to cover my remaining semester. This is an upcoming cost, and not something I have paid for yet, but will have to come end of summer.
Those are my two financial stressors at this point in time. As for income and savings, lets dig in:
I plan to work at least one job this summer. I am currently interviewing for positions in NYC doing software engineering and data science. I am entering the final rounds of interviews at several companies, and I hope *knock on wood* to receive offers from 2 of them. If that is the case, I will work both, one full-time, and one part time. I have already talked to the (prospective) part-time company about this, and they have told me if I get a full-time offer from them, they would still take me part time. With that said, I do not have wages for either.
I also plan to work in the fall. I have started applying for positions, but most of my job search has been focused on this summer for now. I would love to find a computer science adjacent role for next fall, but if I cannot, I will at the very least find an on campus lower wage position, to have some income. After graduating in December I plan to find a full time position somewhere and be salaried where I can start earning real sustained income.
The real meat of my question though, is that I have $45k sitting in a fidelity account that has been earning interest (variable based on rates). This account has been continually added to by my parents as I grew up. The purpose of the account is to start off my life/career with a good sized fund to keep adding to and use a solid foundation for savings moving forward. As I look down the barrel of more debt, I am wondering what is the best way to deal with this. I understand it is hard to say with certainty without having a total value and payment plan setup for my legal debt, but I hope I can still get some valuable advice.
For example, is it more advantageous to take out however much is needed and cover my tuition and legal fees, or is it better to pay those off over time while that $45k keeps working for me? I feel like people are always anti-debt (for obvious reasons), but I also know that there are cases where leaving your money in the market may be more beneficial.
Anyway, thank you very much in advance, I will answer comments as best I can and edit this is I missed anything big.
tl;dr I have $22k in legal debt lent to me by my father. Case on going, legal debt will likely increase, but not more than $50k. I have to pay $17k in tuition/housing fees for next fall (final classes before December graduation). Have income prospects, but nothing locked in at the moment. Have 45k in savings account accruing interest. Spend savings or other options??

2024.05.15 00:13 RedditModsWifeBf My Medical appointment experience from today

Walking around Financial district at crack dawn is interesting experience. Got there around 5ish AM most of other candidates were already there. They told us 5 am even though it said 530 am on paper...they didn't let us in til maybe 15 min before 6 am.
Took us to a class room for a quick brief and then fill out a some forms. Ill get to the more important on.
The medical history form. They are emphatic and emphasize that you reveal any and all issues you have. Again they are emphatic that if any medical issues you didn't disclose comes up during your probation you will be fired. If it comes up after probation they will place you on modified duty and then fire you. They encourage to ask any questions if you aren't sure of something. Just be truthful. One of nurses said it best " no point going thru the almost all of probation and suddenly you are you are fired because you didn't disclose previous medical issue or injury "
Drug testing ( Piss in a cup) and breathalyzer test for Grandpas Old cough medicine. I like drinking as much as the next man but if you still have booze in your system at 7 am you might have bigger problems. Drug test was mostly focused on telling people they cant smoke Marijuana anymore regardless of legalization or if you have a medical card. You can pop hot once for Marijuana ( I think for the harder stuff its automatic dismissal, but again you have bigger problems if you do ) but the 2nd time is your last time. No need to freak out first time but its basically last chance you will get.
After filling out medical history check list you are sent off to various floor to take fore mention Drug and Alcohol test, EKG, Vision and finally seeing the Doctor who examines you and takes your Blood Pressure reading. They will look over and discuss your medical history form with you ,again just be truthful and they will be straight with you as well. They are there to help you get thru hiring process but are also aware that if you have something that might come under more scrutiny later on they will let you know. Overall i received positive and negative feed back but felt it was more than fair. Was told that everything looks good and there shouldn't be any issues going forward with hiring process...except my High Blood Pressure.
Whether actual HBP or just jitters, if you are elevated they let you chill out for a bit and take second readings. Me being lucky i failed again and thus i get to tell you how the process continues. They will schedule a visit two weeks time to come back and redo Blood pressure test. Ample enough time to visit your Doctor and get prescribed some Meds to bring it back under control. They tell you to bring said prescription to let them know that its under control.
Next step was to do Hearing and Blood work and X-rays. Both Blood work and hearing are done in one clinic in Manhattan. For X-rays you go to another one. They encourage you to knock this out in a day if possible but you have 3 days and that's it. The Blood and Hearing has to be scheduled but we were told to call them and find out if we could walk in right after they finished with us, the clinic said yes to walk ins so shoot off to the UWS. As far as X-rays go they give you two sheets with multiple locations at all 5 boroughs, i am sure you can find one clinic close to your home. These don't need any appointments and you can walk in. Can you do it in a day ? Yes. Did i do it in a day ? No. Still have X-rays to do but honestly the blood work and hearing is far easier to get done since its in Manhattan. The X-rays can be done at leisure since there are so many locations to choose from so you don't have to go crazy and go miles away.
My take away from experience is that all the workers, nurses and doctors are there to facilitate and help you as much as possible to get hired. They are kind, friendly and jovial and it made the time go by real fast. We moved along fairly quick, think maybe 2-3 hours total omitting the late start. But it was also a small group as well maybe 10ish total ? with varying list numbers but think everyone was below 100. Encouraging for some of ya with high list numbers maybe with such a small take on first day.
Also nurses mentioned this is first time they just process candidates medicals separate from current employees...not sure what that means but i guess it worked because reading accounts here they made it seem like it was an all day affair to do medicals at Beaver street.
Finally...well this one was an interesting one. I went by the waiting area where current DSNY workers are there for various reasons i assume for medical or other issues like testing. A glance around the room made me say " my god... these poor sods look beat to fucking shit " So yeah...guess i shall see how far i get into this hiring process. Good Luck to you all .

2024.05.15 00:11 The_Lucinator A quick primer on stealth

A quick primer on stealth
Boo
I have seen a lot of people both here on reddit and on discord with questions on stealth or misconceptions on it. As a Docent and historian at the worlds largest private aerospace museum which has a lot of documentation on the subject and a few actual stealth aircraft, which helps in understanding this topic at a deeper level than most. This is meant to be a basic overview of how reduced Radar Cross Section, (RCS) is achieved. I’m not gonna go into detail about other features that matter in stealth such as Infrared signature reduction, or electromagnetic signature reduction both of which are just as critical to a proper stealth design.
If anyone wants to do some light reading on the subject I recommend Stealth by Doug Richardson, or Stealth Aircraft by Bill Sweetman. Both can provide a basic overview of the technical aspects of RCS. If you have a Aviation Week subscription they did a couple of great primer articles on this a few years ago and are also worth reading. There are also numerous academic papers on this topic that can be found if you want something with a bit more meat on the bones. What will follow is even further simplified from those books but should at least be more accessible and easy to understand.
The first thing I want to point out is how Radar actually works as this is something that a lot of people get wrong, and it can lead to many mistaken beliefs about how stealth works. People often think of a radar return as light reflecting off a object, and while in layman's terms this explanation suffices the actual quantum mechanisms are a bit more complicated and while the description is fine for basic knowledge knowing how it works at the smallest of scales is critical for getting your RCS to actually work.
When Radar strikes a object it doesn't just bounce off, what actually happens is that the radar wave induces a current in the material it hits, this then creates waves of the same magnitude as the incoming waves. It is this re-emitted energy that is what the radar receiver actually pics up. The direction of emission is also related to the direction of the incoming energy. One important factor in this is that object with a length/diameter about one half the wavelength will create a much stronger return. This is why some objects are much more radar reflective than others. However this isn't the only thing the energy can do. Sometimes the energy is absorbed by the material struck, this is your standard Radar Absorbing Material (RAM). Another interesting feature of radar is scattering and wave travel. The energy does not have to be emitted right away, it can travel along the object it hits before being re-emitted. Sharp boundaries are more likely to emit this radiation than smooth rounded shapes. This is further compounded by scattering which is how the magnitude of the return varies by the relationship of the wavelength to the size of the object. When they are about the same size (note this means the area the wave can travel not the size of the whole plane) you get what is called resonance which greatly increases the return of the object. When the wavelength is smaller than the object then it starts to treat smaller and smaller sections independently of each other as the object. This is important and will be discussed later.
The goal of RCS takes all of these considerations and more into the equation as some objects are also transparent to radar waves and others translucent. Furthermore the ability of a material to conduct electricity is important because this can help the waves propagate further before emitting. While on the surface this may seem bad and in some cases it is, it also allows for better control of where the emissions come from. Move over the angle of the surface being emitted dictates the strength of the signal and how it changes with direction, think this like a funhouse mirror, the cone/dome of radar can be emitted in a very different direction than it came from. This is not a easy thing to calculate and is a reason that early stealth aircraft were faceted as with the sharp lines were easier to predict where and in what direction the return waves would propagate. This has ironically led to many people thinking that faceted shapes are better for RCS, when in truth the opposite is true, however as stated earlier it is easier to model. This is why flat surfaces such as single vertical tail fins, and turbine blades are such big reflectors. The goal of any RCS is to reduce the amount of stuff making its way back to the emitting aircraft and being able to know exactly how the waves will travel is paramount to a successful RCS design.
To complicate matters further as I mentioned earlier when a wavelength is smaller than the object you are trying to detect than it will treat different parts of the aircraft separately however this can be modified by increasing the distance the wave can travel in a object. This is where the most critical part of any proper RCS effort comes into play. This is one of tolerances. See gaps are the ultimate emitter of waves since they have sharp edges, and break the electrical current flowing through the material thus drastically increasing the chance of emission. This is by far the largest contributor to RCS. It has also proved the bane of countries trying to develop stealth since it is very hard to have manufacturers that can achieve such tight tolerances and it isn't something you can just steal like the shape or RAM materials. Since a plane needs to have at least some moving parts being able to make them close to one another is paramount, having seems be almost non existent on a moving part is very hard. Most stealth aircraft require special tape to bridge the gaps especially the ones between materials with different electrical properties like those around the cockpit. This tape had to be applied every mission perfectly and was (and to some degree still is) the part that added the most to the Maintenance of aircraft like the F-117 and B-2. You can see a good example of this on the photo below of the TACIT BLUE aircraft which was one of the first stealth aircraft.

those dark area's around any hatches is the tape
As you probably well know part what is important is how the aircraft is structured and shaped, What isn't talked about is that most shapes that direct radar waves in a specific direction aren't the most conducive to good aerodynamics, thankfully for early stealth pioneers there are many materials that are very transparent to radar (such as the dome over most maritime radars). These materials can be used to smooth out the airflow and create a shape conducive to good flying characteristics (or even the ability to fly at all). Below is a good example of a photo showing the intricate sub surfaces on a aircraft control surface. You will notice that the underlying sawtooth shape would probably not be very aerodynamic but with the radar transparent leading edge the surface smooths out into the familiar shape you can recognize.

A great example of how the edges are smoothed over to create a clean wing
Another part that needs to be considered is that there are a wide range of radar wavelengths that can be used. What is a good RCS shape to one wavelength might matter a lot less to another frequency. This is why most broadband stealth designs are created and coated with materials the work to harmonize as many different wavelengths of radar as possible into a more cohesive waveform. This is mostly seen in third and fourth generation designs like the F-22 and F-35. You will often note the metallic sheen their paint tends to have and this is indicative of attempts to do this.

Stealthy paint
Not stealthy paint
There is one last effect that is worth noting and that is that if a wavelength is larger than the object then a effect know as Reyleigh Scattering happens and the radar treats the aircraft as one homogeneous aircraft and shape and angles no longer really mater to the return just the size and composition of the object. This is why many countries looking to develop counter stealth technologies often look at low frequency radar as it can get around the shaping of the aircraft as well as issues with things like gaps, though the effectiveness of RAM isn't changed. Ok so you are probably asking why people don't just use long wave radar, well there are two problems while long wave radar has great range due to the energy required for a given distance is proportional to the wavelength it also comes at the price of accuracy and also needing a large antenna to pick up any receiving signals since the reception of radar signals generally requires a receiver proportional to the wavelength. Also effected is resolution which means that knowing that something is out there is easier but knowing where it is, is much harder. The lower resolution can have other unhelpful effects such as combining many small objects (like a flock of birds) into one.

Lastly as alluded to earlier there is a hierarchy to the importance of design features. In general it goes like this. By far the most important one is tolerance of the parts and elimination of gaps. Then in a distant second is RAM and other coatings. Lastly there is shape though unlike the other two this is still required by some degree to any stealthy aircraft whereas you can go without the other two but with a much more easily detectable object. It illustrate this and to show how all of this starts to fit together look below at the four aircraft's. Now rank them in order of smallest RCS to largest.......Scroll down past them for the answer.
F-22A Raptor

Su-57 Felon
F/A-18E/F Block III Super Hornet
KF-21 Boramae (fighting hawk)
Ok good here are the results
  1. F-22
  2. F/A-18 E/F Block III
  3. KF-21
  4. Su-57
so how many of you thought that the KF-21 would be 3rd, or that the Su-57 would be last? This illustrates the importance of both keeping tight tolerances and in the heavy use of RAM and other skin (and some sub-skin) treatments. Both of the planes have shaping that is conducive to having a low RCS but are not able to match the 4.5 gen Superhornet’s latest version due to the latter's better tolerance control and increased use of RAM materials. This much has been admitted by the Korean government which has admitted that the Block one KF-21 which has no RAM and looser tolerance levels than they would have wished. They do plan on incorporating those as well as including a full internal bay rather than the semi-recessed hardpoints it currently has. This shows the difficulty in mastering those two elements since the South Koreans have a lot of experience building and even decent experience designing planes. The Su-57 is a bit of the different case. Teasing out the failings of the Su-57 has taken more work given the Russian government claims that its stealth feature are some of the best in the world. However pictures of the Su-57 during construction shows a complete lack of sub-surface shaping, as well as a lack of RAM coating on many surfaces that should have it. Furthermore riveting and screw attachment of parts are massive no no’s in stealth and the Su-57 has those in droves. Furthermore the engine's turbine blades are visible through the air intake something even the KF-21 avoids limiting the ability to actually improve the RCS. It also has clearly visible gaps at locations where they would significantly contribute to increasing the RCS. Lastly the paint on the plane does not exhibit any metallic properties meaning that it likely is derived from first gen stealth paint, most likely from samples of the F-117 that was shot down in the Balkans. Based on this and knowledge that tolerances have always been a weakness of Russian manufacturing (though in the past this was deliberate as low tolerances allow for more rugged machines) thus the Su-57 probably doesn't have a ton of RCS reduction and is probably on the level of the Eurofighter in terms of RCS.

Ok so now withe the brief overview out of the way you are probably wondering how Flyout's “RCS” system fits into all of this. The answer is not at all. There is almost no connection between the games determination and reality. This can be deduced by the lack of most properties that are needed to define RCS. Some of the notable ones needed are wavelength of the radar used and given radar itself isn't in game we know that's not yet on the table, the electrical conductive properties of a aircraft's paint and skin/structures are very important to any radar return modeling and so far materials used in game are purely cosmetic. There also is no RAM material and even how that works is highly variable in real life but even a massively simplistic implementation doesn't exist so we can cross that out. There also is no setting for tolerances of parts of the plane and given that is the most important contributor to reducing RCS the lack of all these features means that the game’s RCS has no real connection with how real RCS works. Lastly, I don’t expect there to be a accurate system implemented. This is due to the massive computing power needed to model the subtle interactions of radar waves with all of these factors. As mentioned before there is a reason faceting was used heavily in early stealth aircraft despite it being less than optimal. It would take several months of using 1970’s supercomputers specially programed to just do this calculation to get a RCS model for a given aircraft shape. Even then it had to have data from real world RCS testing added to achieve this. While computing power has exponentially increased since then the ability to actively simulate a planes RCS in real time, is still well beyond anything a desktop computer can do. Especially given you would need a completely custom engine just for that part. And none of what I have said touches on other parts that can contribute to RCS like degradation of RAM coatings, or the fact that the exhaust from planes in afterburner shows up on radar (this is due to the lower density of hot air coupled with changes in the airs natural radar absorbing properties due to being at a different temperature). So for everyone out there, don't worry about or look too far into the RCS of your stealth plane be as creative as you want. That being said it is possible that IR reduction could be better simulated in game and might be a possible thing to have added. Real RCS will likely be limited to at best massively approximated stand-in values. Though there is a way to achieve a real world stealth parameter which is visual stealth, ie cammo or other tech that reduces a aircrafts visual signature. Along with some tech (like the hole material that is fictional but renders the plane truly invisible)
Implementing the \"hole\" surface material to a plane in real life
On a side tangent I want to point out that the exhaust phenomenon is something that has effected all stealth aircraft and the main reason the A-12 and SR-71 had no real RCS reduction since the massive amount of air the moved through the planes engines meant they were usually spotted at the maximum range of whatever radar they flew near. And while on the A-12 they tried to eliminate this through a combination of using a cesium fuel additive(which did absolutely nothing), and plasma stealth to shield the air intake so the fan blades would not reflect (which apparently worked ok but used a enormous amount of power, led to airflow disruptions that made the engine both less efficient, even more prone to flameouts, and caused the formation of nitric acid and other corrosive compounds the hurt the engine.). For the reasons I just showed the cesium and plasma stealth systems were disabled on the A-12 by the time it entered its brief service and not used at all on the SR-71, which instead used it’s extreme speed, altitude and what can be argued was the most extensive ECM suit ever fitted to a aircraft at the time, to ensure that any missile that got close could be jammed.
Hope this helps people.

2024.05.15 00:03 Manifester Career Pivot due to illness- Is this possible

A few months ago I received a diagnosis that halted my career and the best option for me is to make money working from home. Since I found this out I’ve been studying day trading and looking into various instruments and really like the perks of futures.
I came into this without having the expectation I could do this for my main income. However, after hundreds of hours of research and paper trading, the thought of trying to do it full time seams possible. Before this I had little experience studying markets. Threw some money into stocks here or there, but did not have much to invest.
I mostly learned through YouTube. I stayed away from the cringe gurus and stuck to the hard chart analysis and looking at charts until my eyes felt sore. I settled on MNQ and started paper trading with TradingView. I’ve mimicked the conditions as if I was trading for real the best I could. $10,000, risking 2% per trade, each trade starting with 5 micro contracts.
Over the past weeks I profited 3-4k on 5 different 10k paper trading accounts this is after subtracting what would be tradovates contract fees. I gravitated towards scalping with my trades lasting anywhere from 1-45 minutes with most being around 3-5 minutes, looking at a 1min chart. I mostly trade during NY AM, but I have traded overnight for more practice. I averaged about 20ish trades a day. I will admit that when I feel confident I will increase contract size to 10-15 and adjust stop loss to 3-4%. This does not happen that often, but I know this is generally considered a bad habit. I stop trading if I lose $500 which only happened a few times. I monitor trades closely and will exit well before target profit / stop loss if I start to feel less confident. I do let some winners run. I am constantly moving TP/SL during the duration of the trade and will sometimes add contracts. I have news alerts and a trading calendar.
I use a variety of things like S/R, volume, CCI, DOM, price action stuff. I started by just looking at MNQ charts in real time an unhealthy amount mostly starting before NY open and slowly I started to get a feel for how it moves (sometimes).
The fact is I know I am a noob. I write this for seasoned traders that may be generous enough to give their insight. Is it too early to start a real account? Is it just beginners luck or is this how it starts?
I’m really worried about a few things. Im eager to start but cautious. How different are orders being filled for 5-15 micros on MNQ compared to paper trading? Especially with the big jumps on MNQ. Could I get away with continuing to use trading view integrated with tradovate? Is there lag? Am I showing any red flags? Any tips? Gosh it all makes me nervous yet so excited.

2024.05.14 23:55 AGirlHasOneName Coming home after saying goodbye.

One of the hardest parts of saying goodbye is the coming home.
Walking into the apartment with no cat coming up to greet you and beg for food.
The litter box that was recently used.
The half eaten cat food that will never be finished.
The kitty water fountain still running.
The smell of him in the bedsheets that will soon fade.
Everything, everything in my life is him.
And then the following morning.
Remembering you need to refill the water fountain. Oh no, no you don’t.
Actually you can just unplug that now.
Tufts of fur that you need to sweep up. But maybe you can leave them just a little bit longer.
Toys scattered around the apartment. Everything you did to try to cheer him up at the end.
And what will you do with all these extra meds? Bottles and bottles of every medication you tried, every last Hail Mary you thought might save him. Syringes of every size scattered about half hazard. Print outs of X-rays and research papers you pored over trying to find some tiny bit of hope buried in the text. I guess this is what desperation looks like.
And me, I was desperate.
That stupid cat toothpaste you knew you’d never use.
The oil painting of him on the wall. The hand-painted portrait of him on the opposite shelf.
The cat carrier with his name on it.
Another toy. Mixed into everything. Memories like a glitter bomb dumped on everything I own.
Remembering the time you had just gotten to LA and he snuck out the door and you spent the night sleeping on concrete outside, waking up every 30 minutes to call his name. Frantically going door to door begging for help.
Remembering the time you carried him across Manhattan in a backpack. In the snow and wind and sleet. Alone and cold and with no idea what tomorrow would bring.
Remembering the night he escaped in Tahoe, and you blamed the housemates for letting the door open, but several days later witnessed him open the door with his snout.
Remembering the time he hurt his foot and it swelled up so big it was the size of a golf ball.
Remembering how he’d jump into your lap as soon as you started a work call because he knew you wouldn’t be using your keyboard and you would pet him instead.
Remembering how needy he’d become when you’d been gone on a trip. Guilt for all the times you weren’t with him.
Remembering the night you were ready to die, but then you looked at him, and he looked at you, and you knew you had no choice but to live.
Remember everything you went through together in those short 7 years that he had.
Remember how much he loved you, and how much you loved him.
Is it possible to ever love a creature this much ever again?

Just some cool info I found…sorta goes along with Trapper’s next post. 👀
I’ve been doing some research here in SC about what constitutes harassment or slander or libel in the Palmetto state. I found that there are remedies for people who are actually being stalked. I was curious because it seemed like Pam and Matt’s lawyer was sure taking a long time to “get his ducks in a row” when the Webster’s were telling their fans “two weeks” “very soon” “pretty quick” “soon” “I know where you live and work” and yet, 9 months later…nada. Is this case pretty complicated? Are harassment cases hard to file so you’d need years of practicing before your lawyer can file charges?
According to SC law, you can file to sue on your own. You head down to the courthouse, pay a fee, pay for a sheriff to serve your “harasser(s)” with a restraining order, telling them you’re suing and then you all go to court and if you win, the judge will award you money. From each snarker. If you prove they’re stalking you. (Simply put).
So why are the Webster’s still talking about their lawyer “getting his ducks in a row” when the Webster’s can do everything pertaining to their fear of stalkers for themselves? Could it be because they don’t have a case? They know no one is stalking them. They know that if they were to serve anyone papers and sued them for stalking or harassment, they’d have to prove said stalking and harassment in a court of law and when they lost (which they most certainly would), they would be on the hook for everyone involved’s legal fees and court costs.
Do not be worried or concerned about the authorities, nothing can happen to anyone snarking about the Websters, telling truths and reposting everything she posts about her life. If it were illegal, that “two weeks”, “very soon”, “pretty quick”, “soon” would already have happened. I’ll add a link at the bottom here about it.
Soooo…when you read the 🍵 tonight, remember that none of this is libel or harassment or stalking. It took a lot of investigative work by us…😂 Not really, people are dying to tell us things.
Enjoy.

2024.05.14 23:31 barkeepbill Questions about Daguerreotype

I inherited 10 deguerreotypes a couple years ago and know nothing about them. I was wondering if anyone could point me to a post about caring for daguerreotypes. I tried searching this sub but couldn’t find anything.
I’ve been following this sub for the past few months, and have learned I already messed up by removing the paper on the back when i tried to scan the pic. How do i keep it from oxidizing now? What are the different sizes I see people mention when they post pics? What is the best way to scan or take a pic of an old daguerreotype? Anything else I should possibly know to preserve these things? I know I’m related to the people in theses pics, but only a couple had names written on a strip of masking tape across the back.
If nobody has ever made a post here about taking care of deguerreotypes, they should. If not, any website recommendations?

2024.05.14 23:26 bvanevery digital tabletop gaming

digital tabletop gaming
Because I have some time on my hands lol, I went looking for board game venues in Asheville NC. There are a variety of foci and business models to them. I came across a photo, which I will leave unattributed, that reminds me of an old idea.

something clunky this way comes
I'm not sure what this giant wooden box they're all sitting around is? Is it static? Is it reconfigurable? Does it have blinkin' doo dads in it? Does it attach to other digital devices in some way? Yes I could ask at the game store I saw the photo, but they're closed today and that would be too easy.
I mean it looks like they drink coffee off of it. Maybe it just holds all their junk, like miniatures and dice and stuff? If so, I would call that a complete waste of space, but maybe others differ.
The old idea, is of an interactive tablet the size of a table, that can be moved around from venue to venue, and people can interact with. I don't know how easy it is to homebrew / cobble together / stitch such a display. Frankly one of my last attempts at 3d graphics consulting in the early 2000s, I lost a gig about such display architectures. I suggested a software rendering approach in an era that was moving into shader language programming. Oh well.
There used to be papers about large scale "printable" paper-like displays, with entrepreneurial possibilities like putting the damn things on cereal boxes as ads. God I hope not. Don't know where that stuff ever went.
There have been various laser projection devices for use with VR, some that would go right into your retina. Others, perhaps you could scan on a table. That would make it some kind of fancy projector. Maybe in the vector graphics display category.
I once saw a US Civil War exhibit in a small museum somewhere, possibly in Kentucky, that did a laser projection onto a physical topographical map. The cost of the project was listed, I'm remembering something like $90k at the time. It was pretty cool with an overhead laser projector pointing downwards. Units with the usual sorts of X's and oval shapes would move around and you could see how the fighting went. I'm thinking the battlefield was Wildcat Mountain? Yeah, the Battle of Camp Wildcat and I wasn't wrong about the alternate name.
I thought I even remembered some commercial attempts to sell some kind of tabletop display. But it's been a long time, like at least a decade.
Meanwhile as I attempt to find players for some kind of "old school, complex, time intensive" board game, I'm finding scheduling to be a primary constraint among adults. Difficult to find people who can set aside 8 to 12 hours to play such games.
Tabletop displays also don't solve problems of limited information or fog of war. You could of course change the display for a single player's available knowledge, but then everyone else would have to look away and not peek. Tractable, but not ideal. One obvious solution is to have people jack in their own laptops, but then the question is, what's the common shared display for?
A tabletop display would make sense for a collaborative game. For instance, you're the party going through a dungeon. Or you're the bridge crew of a starship.

2024.05.14 23:22 KitsuneUltima Deleted files still taking space on external HD (Mac)

Hey guys so I basically have an external HD and cleared a ton of files off it but forgot to empty the trash before ejecting. I then emptied the trash later at some point, so now I have the issue where the files are in my external HD showing up as blank paper icons that are seemingly still the full file size and taking up the space.
I can’t interact with these files aside from getting info. I can’t open or delete them, and they don’t show up normally in the finder, but if I search for them they will show up as the blank paper icon type files. How do I clear these? Appreciate any help possible! I’m on a Mac with a seagate external drive.

There is only one path to beat these people, a fundamentalist american first amendment position, a fundamentalist articles of confederation historical legal position, not a pro federalist paper interpretation. Just for how else you might construe this, no Russia and China won't protect this tech, literally no other government will protect this technology other than whatever aspect of the american states take a fundamentalist radical pro bill of rights position. Maybe that's Texas, maybe not, they could, but they have brain worms of course. No other country will save you, and the democrats and republicans won't. Texas should, but again, brain worms. You need to be an articles of confederation fundamentalist, and you need to be hyper aggressive with SCOTUS statute, now is the time to make counter accusations and preeemptive class action lawsuits agaisnt the american government, not later. They're coming for us.

I’ve had 2(possibly 3) hamsters pass in the course of a month
All of these animals are at my place of work( a preschool) and I have very limited control over them. I have no control over the size of their enclosure, nor do I have control over their placement, and their existence within the school. I am trying to do the absolute best that I can with giving them enrichment inside their enclosures and doing as much research as I can. To start, we have 2 gerbils, 2 guinea pigs and 2 hamsters. The gerbils and hamsters are in 20 gallon tanks. The first hamster(Snoopy) we had was a male Syrian that was very young. He suddenly fell ill and I’m not sure what caused it. I feed the rodents a mixture of Essentials hamster food and mix seed. Snoopy passed while the substrate was regular paper based bedding( not sure the brand). Someone else bleached and sanitized the tank, wheel, food bowl, not sure about the water bottle. We got a female short hair hamster(Strawberry) the same day and that was about 3 ish weeks ago. Since then, she has had a paper based bedding, then I switched to a mixture of aspen and clean and cozy paper. I did the same switches to our other long haired Syrian hamster(Snowball) that we’ve had for about 7 months. Strawberry passed yesterday very suddenly. She was active that morning then just a few hours later she was gone(about a week after the substrate switch. Today, snowball was breathing weird and sleeping outside of her nest. I let her out played with her a little and gave her a blueberry she seemed okay. The only things I can think of is 1. Since I work at a preschool, everyone is constantly sick, children and teachers, and I read sicknesses can spread to the hammies? 2. The The ball (which they all share) wasn’t sanitized between each use and something spread between them. 3. Snoopy and strawberry were placed in a very unfortunately in their room(not my decision) next to a changing table where they constantly spray bleach water and febreeze. But that wouldn’t explain why snowball isn’t feeling well. 4 they all came from petsmart so they were already sick. 5. Stress. All three hamsters chewed/chew the plastic on the top of their tanks. Or 6. The switch I made to adding the aspen in there. The first two images are of snowballs old and new setups, then strawberry’s new, then snoopys only setup. I’m sorry for how unorganized this is! My heart aches for these hamsters and I’d love any help possible.

2024.05.14 22:58 Trinco77 Kato Tri-R variation

Kato Tri-R variation
There used to be a time when plans were scribbled onto the back of a paper napkin or a piece of scrap paper. Today I can scribble on my phone! This is my variation of Kato’s “Tri-R” track plan. Let’s call it the Tri—R-der 😂 I’ve always loved this basic plan for it’s simplicity and small size (2’x4’) but felt it needed a bit more track to enhance operations.
The thin lines on my “plan” are added sidings and the larger squiggles are hilly areas. This plan may or may not include a tunnel in the upper right. There’s also a road running across the layout (also in black) Yellow are buildings/industries. I’ve also added an interchange track in the lower right to accommodate five or six pieces of rolling stock.
All in all this plan allows for some basic NA freight operations with three industries, an inglenook shunting puzzle and gives me someplace to occasionally run the new passenger trains I recently brought home from Japan.

2024.05.14 22:53 Medium-Canary1353 HELP ON SWOLLEN LEFT TESTICLE

M 15
So i was sick with fever a few days ago and since then my left testicle has been hurting/causing some small discomfort in some positions
Now 3 days later the pain is mostly away but i think it is still swollen a bit, sadly i cant compare it to earlier bc i never self examined. But its roughly double the size of my other testicle. Could just be a size difference tho that i never noticed and now seems a little conzerning.
Should i be worried? I really dont wanna see a doctor for this if not absolutly needed due to self harm scars there
EDIT: The sh scars are at my thighs not my testicles, what would still make the doctor see them and bc of legal reasons tell my parents, if it werent like that i would go

2024.05.14 22:48 Upstairs-Solution404 Legally change my race

Hi everyone. Is it possible to legally change my race? Long story short, my self hating white mother and black father put “black” on my birth certificate when I’m a mixed/white passing biracial woman. (Blue eyes, freckles) It’s a big problem for me because it’s not accurate at all. I even took a dna test and it shows that I have more white than black ancestry. I just want to be identified as my true identity. I want to change it to mixed instead of black. The reason is because one time I went to the ER and they were forcing me to choose between white or black as they were interviewing me on the way to the hospital and I refused to choose and they said you HAVE to pick a race and I said no and they chose for me and just selected “white”….another time I went to renew my drivers license and the lady at the front counter was a black lady and I was telling her to change my race on my id from black to mixed and she looked up my parents and was giving me a hard time because black people think they own us biracials and she was offended because she felt that I didn’t want to be apart of her community when in reality we are very different, different ancestry, physically very different looking. Even I have black friends who question what it’s like to be biracial, that ask me questions that they wouldn’t ask eachother. To an extent they understand that we’re different and not just physically. They can’t comprehend having fully white family members and they tend to ask a lot about white people. There’s a big difference between biracials and AAs who have a drop of white or very little admixture. Even our hair textures are different and I get sunburns when AAs usually don’t. Bottom line is, no one sees or perceives me as a black woman even though it’s on my birth certificate and I’m SICK and TIRED of being wrongfully identified. Also if I have children one day, I want them to be aware and proud of ALL of their ancestry, not only the black side. When I’m long gone, I don’t want them to remember me as a black woman when my true identity is biracial and I want them to be proud of all of their ancestry including their white side. I want them to aware of their TRUE ancestry and not just what’s falsely written on paper as black. This situation is really stupid and it effects me on a daily basis. How do I legally go about changing my false race from black to biracial in government documents? I’m in Texas.

~ General Recommendations (All Consoles) For Anyone Who Can't Decide ~

First off, I won't recommend big or famous games like Final Fantasy or Persona, this is more for lesser know, hidden gems, or just games where it's hard to find someone talking about them.

[Valkyria Chronicles]

[Valkyria Chronicles 4]

This one is really hard to explain through words alone, but just in case, the VC series is a World War 2 military setting story, where you act as the lead of a squad and take mission to drive back the enemy. The story is drama heavy and the gameplay is tactical turn-based, but it's mixed with real-time third person shooter.
You can also make your own army by recruiting different types of solders, training them and upgrading their gear. From rifles to tanks, this is a game you have to experience to understand.

[Fuga: Melodies of Steel 1 & 2]

Great game, great art style, and really well made and balanced turn-based combat. That alone is enough to get the game. Then you add the time-management part of the game, where you spend time upgrading the different tank rooms, cooking, exploring ruins, spending time to bond with other characters, and so on. It's also great if you want a game that you can play for an hour or 2 and then put down for later. As the game is played through stages, and once you're done with a stage, you get an intermission to do what you want and come back to it later.
It's not a long game (compared to the usual JRPG), as you mentioned, it's about 20 hours. Story-wise I think it was a bit too short. Gameplay wise it was great fit, because it didn't outstay it's welcome, and it ends when you feel you have mastered the gameplay and want to face the final challenge.
The story is good, but isn't the focus. Gameplay is the main focus. In fact you'll feel that a lot of context isn't told in the story, but instead left for you to either read about in the in-game wiki or just figure out through obvious clues in the story.
There is a big mechanic that this meant to put a lot of pressure on your playthrough (don't worry about it being spoiled because it's literally explained in the first hour of the game). The thing is though, if you have experience in JRPGs or just play in a really well thought out and relaxed manner, then that mechanic might not be as big a deal as they make it seem to be. Yet it's still fun nonetheless.
Fuga 2 is even better. It fixes a lot of the minor issues the first game had, and what's really great, is it improved the "big pressure" mechanic I talked about, and now it actually is a big deal. Then add to that so much little new mechanics added that just makes for a much more fun and challenging game. The 2nd game also continues the same story.

[Ni no Kuni] Series

If you're looking for that great Isekai fantasy adventure feel, then these two games are where it's at. Fantastic visuals and great music, coupled with a great art style, a combo that is perfect for a chill and relaxed gaming experience. Especially when talking about the first game, with the help ofStudio Ghibli, they managed to make a truly whimsical world with that Studio Ghibli classic touch.
- Important Note: The games aren't connected story-wise, so you can start with any of them -

[Wrath of the White Witch]

For a the best fantasy adventure feel, while the combat is a hit or miss depending on your taste, don't let that stop you from actually diving into a true fairy tale world, this is the one with the better story in my opinion, so if you want more story than game, this is for you. Still it has a good share of gameplay, from raising and collecting Pokemon-like monsters, to learning and using different spells, not just in combat but for the overworld too.

[Ni no Kuni™ II: Revenant Kingdom]

This one focuses more on gameplay, with a Kingdom builder, Army battles, Heavy loot focus, and even character collector, this is the one to go with if you want more game than story. Still has the great music and he fantastical art style and setting. Add to that a lot of side activities like beating rare monsters, collecting cute creatures to help you in battle, and even going around the world to gather people to help you build your kingdom. You'll never be short on things to do.
Finally, both of them have beautifully draw world that is just a pleasure to walkthrough, made even better with the amazing orchestral soundtrack.

[Star Ocean The Second Story R]

The original PS1 game was already an amazing JRPG and a classic. But this remake takes it to go even further beyond SSJ3. It should be the standard on how to make a faithful remake on of a classic title.
I don't want to overhype it more than I already did. So to keep this short, this remake does so much:
  • All major story events are now fully voice acted. This includes a lot of the private actions too.
  • Fully redone and better translation of the game.
  • New Character to recruit to the party.
  • New Private Actions and 13 new Endings.
  • New character portraits, not just for the main cast, but also for many other characters.
  • A complete rework for the battle system to be up to modern standards.
  • So many QoL features:
    • Auto-saving
    • Fast-forward cut-scenes or skip them.
    • Text log
    • All difficulties can be accessed from the start
    • Fast travel
    • 3 different voice dubbing options to choose from (New English, Original Japanese, New Japanese)
    • Your choice of different art styles
    • Choose between original OST and new rearranged OST.
    • No random battles anymore, as enemies can be seen and avoided
And believe me when I say I still haven't touched half of the amazing work that has gone into this remake.

[Sword and Fairy 7: Together Forever]

They did a great job with the presentation of the game. Great voice acting (Chinese), great graphics, amazing music, and an impressive attention to details of the world and it's lore, especially the engineering of the buildings and their decor. Then you have the really beautiful design of each piece of gear, and even just normal attire of each NPC and the disciples of each sect or soldiers of each of the different of each plane (gods, humans, demons).
Then we go to how great looking the monsters and local flora and fauna of each realm. You can feel the intense work that has gone into making and animating each of them. It really is a joy to watch them, as much as it is to watch each environment you see them in. There really isn't enough time to talk about how good the presentation is.
As for the story. First off, I am not an expert in Chinese novels mythology, but I am a big fan of Xianxia and Wuxia novels. So when I say that the story is...good but nothing great, I am saying this as more than just a JRPG fan, but also someone who is very into this type of world and Chinese martial arts fantasy setting. it's nothing that will stick in your mind, apart from the events that take place in some of the beautiful set pieces in the game, or the cut-scenes with beautiful action cheoragphy.
The gameplay is also about average. The side-quests are fun and are worth doing if nothing more than for learning more about the lore and the world. But the actual battles and action gameplay isn't as good as the best ones out there, but it's not bad. I have ran into some bugs, some small, some big, but that was when the game just came out, and it did receive a lot of patches since then. You can tell that they aimed to make a huge triple A production, but didn't have the time or manpower to test a game of this size. It's still fun to play and experience, but the level of gameplay is nowhere near the level of the presentation that the game gives the impression of having just from watching the gameplay or trailers.
If you enjoy walking through magical and fantastic looking JRPG worlds, or if you enjoy Xianxia/Wuxia fiction, then this is an easy choice. Hell even if you don't, it's still worth a go at this price.

[Blue Dragon] & [Lost Odyssey]

These two are classic titles that will probably won't be ported to or remade to modern consoles. That's why this might be the last way you'll ever get to experience 2 classic titles of the genre. Lost Odyssey has great story writing and unique character settings, and Blue Dragon has great exploration and a really fun character class customization system, and one hell of a boss theme.

[Monster Sanctuary]

This is a solid game, everything in is polished and balanced to make sure you are having fun collecting new monsters and customizing your team through evolution/skill trees/gear and making the best in-sync party you can. I only wish it was longer, it's not short by any means, but it's not long either. I would say depending on if you're trying to "catch them all" and explore everything and fight all bosses, this could easily be a 30+ hours game, but if you focus on the story, then it's about 20 to 30 hours. Now even longer with the 2 new free DLC expansion added.
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining that it's short, but that I was having so much fun, that I wish it didn't end.

As always, please do add your own recommendations, and let me know if there is mistake or if something was missing, and have a nice day.
