2024.05.14 04:15 Tizzy617_ [Complete][1362][Reflection/Memoir]A Silence Abroad

A Silence Abroad
It was on my first night in Japan that I forgot I was alone. Tokyo’s Shinjuku district greeted me with bright neon lights illuminating flocks of tourists walking shops, arcades, and food stands. And somehow, I was a very small part of it, all by myself on the other side of the world. (Maybe with the occasional tout trying to follow me around.)
Solitude is a vulnerable state, and consequently, a compromise. You seize the moment for yourself, and the space is only yours to fill, but intrusive thoughts will covertly slip through and permeate like a disease. Underneath all the lights, humanity surrounded me, enjoying a drink with friends or snapshotting a moment with family. All these people congregated here from around the world, and in spite of their differences, companionship was what they all shared together. The streets filled with the sounds of their life.
But when you feel alone, the mind tricks you into believing that you are not part of it. And you become a silent spectator, watching the phenomenon that is humanity being orchestrated in front of you. It’s a hollow feeling.
And after not speaking and hearing the sound of your own voice for a while, it becomes replaced by a solemn tone whispering empty thoughts. I tried not to listen.
Nevertheless, Tokyo was beautiful (Senso-ji temple was stunning and my favorite Japanese dessert is now age manju). One night, I even went to a Japanese hip-hop show in Shibuya and it was a wonderful experience. Getting to watch such extremely talented artists so passionate about their craft inspired me and pulled me away from ruminating loneliness for some time. I met one of the performing artists after the show and told him how much I loved his verse (despite not understanding it) and we hugged and he cried. He thanked me over and over until he started apologizing for thanking me so much. It was a special moment and I will always remember his humility. (His band is KOMOREBI - check them out!).
I also went out with some other travelers that night, trying okonomiyaki in Setagaya for the first time (it was mouthful bliss) and then went out to a punk rock concert, and a night club. I wasn’t a huge fan of the clubbing, but the company was refreshing. And like all good things, it was fleeting, and I bid my farewell to everyone that night.
I packed my things, and took a bullet train to my next stop, Kyoto. I was anticipating it, as the train zoomed south with Mount Fuji in surreal, passing view. Looking out the window, seeing my own transparent reflection, I took a breath. The train was moving at around 300 km/hour, but everything felt still and quiet. Even the parts of me that wanted to cry.
Kyoto was rich with temples and vestiges of a long, cherished history. I visited the Kyoto National Museum where I saw sculptured deities with venerable auras, parables scripted in decayed scrolls, and art that embodied Buddhist principles. I saw elevated temples monumental and grand, and others more modest and reserved. But they all stood resolutely, bearing the resilience of time and constant revival. They have felt nature’s desecration during arson and natural disasters, but throughout history, the Japanese have rebuilt and renovated them. And somehow, after enduring all this, as long as time has persisted, here they stood before me, as a testament to strength and preservation.
The long-lasting principles of Buddhism and the culture that were so deeply rooted in this country’s history must continue to live on through the structures that stood before me. Purpose is enough to withstand the cruelty of time’s passage. And the cycle of destruction and restoration that traced centuries was felt in the emanating silence only occupied by the sounds of water trickling down a rill or the occasional soft, swaying of trees. I like to think that ancient silence had touched my existence in those moments and advised me to listen.
Solitude is painful because the empty space that comes with it is congregated by the deeper parts of ourselves that seek to dwell on the purpose of our existence. It is when we are alone and quiet that obtrusive questions confront us, invoking us to listen and contemplate. And when we fail to answer gracefully, that is when the loudest and most self-destructive parts of ourselves will answer for us. The parts that are so keen in stripping our humanity from us.
After my last day in Kyoto, I packed all my things once again, and went over to my final destination, Osaka. I had only one night there. And it was an abrupt return to bustling crowds in the metropolitan. Existential silences were replaced with the sounds of humanity again. But as I walked through Dotonbori on a Friday night eating lots of warm, delicious takoyaki and skewers of Kobe beef, that feeling still returned. I knew I was unwell. And trivialities started to begrudge me and I could tell that it was time. And there would be no escaping it.
I took a taxi back to my hotel and I laid in my bed earlier than expected that night. And everything finally spilled. I cried and I cried and I cried. I was finally listening and it hurt doing so.
This solo trip was supposed to help me escape my problems, but it didn’t. When I brought myself here, I brought everything, and that included problems I wish I could have left behind. And amidst my issues, I questioned myself and my place in the world, even my very reasons for existing during times I felt like I had nobody. And albeit having wonderful moments with people throughout my trip, even strangers who treated me with grace and hospitality, that feeling still lingered and it was revealing a deeper issue. An issue not with whether I was in Japan or back home. Or whether I had people around me or I was alone. It was a deeper issue with myself.
But the silence that comes after the storm is just as serene as the silence that precedes. The older I get, the more I begin to have a respect for emotions and their function. They must be felt and I don’t think they are there to harm or sabotage us, although it might seem like it. It is a need to be heard not by others, but by ourselves. Listening to our own cries for help is scary and uncomfortable, but the silence that follows is like an aged temple still standing after centuries of cyclical adversity. Like the calm flow of water down a rill. Like the soft swaying of trees.
My 10-day solo trip was coming to an end. It was coming time to go home. I spent my last day in Tokyo walking Yoyogi Park. The sky was a clear melancholy overhead scattered, naked trees around the park. I saw couples sitting together, friends circled on picnic blankets, and some reading a book by themselves. Humanity felt beautiful that day and I was grateful to be a part of it, one last time. I packed my things once more before taking my flight back home the next day.
I love Japan and I am grateful it carved a space for me to experience all that I did. This trip will forever hold a special place in my heart. But it was not an epiphany, as much as I wished it was. I did not return home as an entirely new person with newfound happiness or certainty. I returned with the same issues I left with, the same, flawed self that was proof of what it meant to be human this whole time. Only with new experiences. And I don’t think that will change.
My humanity lives in my constant struggle of self-preservation, as I continue to unravel and understand myself as I experience, feel, and change. And perhaps that is enough purpose for my own existence, to strive for those moments of silence, where I will continue to stand resolutely in my own imperfection, alone or not.

2024.05.14 03:08 Chickenwingechicken my drs and all about them

🍇.+ introduction +.🍇

i know i mostly give a lot of informative based shifting posts and i absolutely love doing that, however, i also genuinely find shifting to be one of my main hobbies. and so, i decided to take it upon myself to write about and share with all of you my drs. some fandom, some based within this dr, and some all over the place!
i will include scripts, relationships, personality, time, and duration. i do have some that i plan but have not yet shifted to however i am only including the ones i have shifted to as the ones i would like to shift to are just wishful thinking and not me actively trying to shift there. though, i may make a separate post about drs that i desire to shift to one day.
this post will be also talking about drs that i shifted to in the past as well going in chronological order.
side note; when i talk about time spent in dr, i mean how long i spent in it in total. when i use a date like xxxx-xxxx**, i am talking about in this time period. how long it was since i had scripted and focused on this dr for. there will be plenty of overlap here.

๋࣭ ୨🪞୧ ๋࣭ waiting room ๋࣭ ୨🪞୧ ๋࣭

november 2021 - now (with a two year break in between)
time spent in dr; six months
i honestly don't use this dr as much since my forest dr is much more nicer to relax in. i never used my waiting room for its original purpose. my waiting room was small with multiple doors surrounding it. it was more cozy though some would consider it claustrophobic.
the waiting room itself was my bedroom. for context, my bedroom has a walk in closet. inside that walk in closet is my dr. inside that closet is my waiting room where it is not a closet. honestly, idk why i didn't just permashift there but i find the process of shifting to be very relaxing for me as well haha.
it still has my other drs that i used to shift to but don't anymore. i just don't open the doors to it cuz i'm too focused on two of them. one that i don't even shift to the waiting room to and one that i do shift to it.
i shifted here using the raven method the first time and later the adhd method.

𓍢ִ໋🎧♫⋆。 k-pop dr 𓍢ִ໋🎧♫⋆。

december 2021 - october 2022
time spent in dr; five years
i have talked about this dr of mine before in a couple of comments and i think maybe a post. i haven't really blabbed about all of it. i remember about it just as a memory. i never dreamed in that reality though simply because it is hard for me to dream in this reality too and i never cared to script in 'i can dream in this reality.' however, now i make it a point to add that in.
i did not spend five years straight. it would make me too disoriented. i shifted to it consistently for a total of five years.
my k-pop group was pretty small tbh. at least compared to other groups i listen to. i scripted that i would not know who was in my group and i would find out after auditions and meeting them for the first time. we had five members and it was pretty average. it was not crazy popular but it wasn't very small either. it was one of the most successful of our record company though.
we were a mixed gender k-pop group. meaning some girls, two guys, and me, agender nonbinary. each member had a separate persona. i will give a quick run down of each member, their persona, and my relationship with them. though i was close with all of them. it's just that i was closer with some more than others.
♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。
we had me, i suppose you can call me tato since that was the name i had in that dr. i was known as the nerdy one. the smart one who would info dump and talk very formally while most of the members talked casual. i was mostly a dancer but also was good back up vocals.
my best friend was the pessimistic black cat of the group. i knew her from training and we grew close since then. i give her a five out of five on the closeness scale. her name was ga-young. she is a tan skinned korean girl. she was dancer and singer.
the bubbly girl. she sometimes acted bratty for the sake of cuteness. the cute bubbly girl was used interchangeably for her. she's very sweet both on and off stage. all of the group members were. she probably had the highest social media following due to her aesthetic photos and content. all of them looked like they belonged on pinterest. she was also makeup savvy and had a lot of skin care so got many promos and sponsorships from that. her name was banyen and she was an international idol from thailand!
then we have the soft girl of the group. her name was jae-eun. she was pretty short and kinda chubby but very shy and soft spoken. she was main singer and rapper.
the tough boy. his name was shik. shik is a sweet heart off stage. one of the rappers and dancers. he was actually pretty soft outside of his persona.
the jokester. another boy of the group. he was half black half korean. i found him to be very nice. he did struggle in the industry in the beginning but his mother had connections made through networking that allowed him to make it into the group. he hopes to have a solo career one day under a bigger company. his name is hwan. he was one of the main dancers and main vocals.
♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。♫⋆。
some basics of this dr are that stalkers, sasaengs, diet culture, and general toxicity in k-pop do not exist. i do not wish to deal with the drama and struggles of that and hate to see other idols go through it. i did not want for my friends to go through the same as well. he did not get one however across the five years though. i scripted that i spoke korean and english.
also those were the only things i ever scripted about this dr. i wanted it to be as exciting as possible so everything was left up to chance.
i shifted to this reality using the adhd method.

🌊˚.༄ h2o dr 🌊˚.༄

july 2022 - october 2022
time spent in dr; seven months
i don't often see people write down, talk about, or script this dr. this was my very first fandom drs. even though k-pop itself is a fandom, i personally would not consider it a fandom based dr since it does not belong to any specific group, just the general industry of it.
i got the idea for this reality because i was in a summery mood at the time and binge watched this show and mako mermaids with my cousin on his birthday. we watched this show together and i came up with the idea lol. after that, i kept it going for a little bit longer in my dr until i kinda forgot about it. i was honestly too tired switching between this dr and my k-pop dr and another dr on top of this and decided to take a break with this one. i may revisit it. i still have the script in a google doc.
my merfolk power was substanciakinesis. this granted me the ability to harden water almost as if it was like glass or crystallized. it would be strong, sturdy, and indestructible. if i so choose, i can let it revert back to water after a bit, or keep it crystal like forever.
a bit of a con about this reality was that it was actually pretty annoying. that and having to keep such a secret. i did have some lore to it however. it is a coming of age thing when someone in the family turns thirteen. i shifted to when i was thirteen and did the ceremony then shifted again the next time to when i was seventeen to eighteen as that was my age at the time. i had a single dad that i lived with and one ten year old sister who was later fourteen in the story. she was really sweet and honestly i miss her.
i will say though that the powers made it worth it. the ability to breathe underwater is honestly so cool and such a strange sensation. like you don't take notice on how strange a sensation it is to breathe air either until you've breathed underwater in a dr where you can.
i also shifted to this reality using the adhd method.

˗ˏˋ꒰ 📝 ꒱ hogwarts dr ˗ˏˋ꒰ 📝 ꒱

february 2022 - february 2022
time spent in dr; one week
i wasn't even a fan of harry potter haha. i just shifted there because everyone else was and i decided 'hey, why not?' and such.
to decide what house i would script myself into and get sorted in, i went onto a buzzfeed quiz of which house i was. i got ravenclaw and therefore, i was a ravenclaw. i didn't associate myself with the cast too much aside from the teachers and professors because i kinda had to there. the food was pretty good though even if it was kinda out there. it was fun while it lasted but honestly it felt so crowded and overwhelming to me and i'm unsure why. i guess because of the classes that i had to take.
i only shifted there once.
i shifted to this reality using my waiting room.

☄. *. ⋆ alien dr ☄. *. ⋆

march 2022 - april 2022
time spent in dr; three months
this was the last dr i shifted to before my shifting break. it was a pretty fun one. my main ability was anti gravity. alien me in this dr is slightly humanoid. in most of my drs, i look like how i look in this reality here but for this one, i looked much more different and dressed even more different. it was a cultural based clothes for the home planet i was from. think kinda star wars based but not a star wars inspired reality.
in my dr, i had antennas which basically acted as eyes to see from 360 degrees. hair isn't hair but made from a liquidy slime of bright neons. the neons change colors depending on emotions.
though i did spent quite a while in this reality, i don't have too much to say about it. this is because the most i can say is just different greetings, food, and general culture from aliens than humans. it's from another galaxy and obviously planet. and life span on this planet is much longer. we are more durable than humans.
when an alien passes away, their energy becomes one with the stars, turning into star dust and watching over their people.
i shifted to this reality using my waiting room.

💥✧࿐ mha/bnha dr 💥 ✧࿐

april 2024 - now
time spent in dr; twelve days
this was my first shift i did since my two year break! well, technically it was my waiting room but i used my waiting room to shift here immediately after and spent a week there.
i plan on going back to it but not much of my script was done to it yet. i prefer to be spontaneous in my scripting and just choose to cover the basics. i don't even script future upcoming events.
i'll be honest, it was a bit trippy having this as my first animated dr ever. if felt so real but the lines surrounding my hands made it all feel crazy. i think next time i will try realistic instead, haha.
my quirk in this reality is prediction. i can predict the actions and attacks of my opponent. think of it like the attacks in the video game undertale. a warning sign shows up for certain attacks that alerts the player to move out of the way.
one of my friends in this dr's quirk is extensions. her nails can grow into sharp nail extensions that cut like steel.
i am in the hero class of class 3a along with the big three. we spend a lot of time together. i am closer with nijere since she's the most friendly of them.
i shifted to this reality using my waiting room which i shifted from using the astral projection method.

⋆。゚🌖 wolfblood dr 🌖 ゚。⋆

april 2024 - now
time spent in dr; eight months four months each shift
wolfblood is an english/british teen drama live action series about what are essentially werewolves known as wolfbloods. a wolfblood is born human and looks human up until a certain age and moon. once they reach that age, their blood changes and they become a wolf. they can then interchange between wolf and human however they please except on a full moon. unless of course it is a blood moon. on a blood moon, a wolfblood looks the exact same except their mind transforms.
there's no unique feature of a wolfblood. they can be any race, religion, etc. the thing that holds them all together is being a wolfblood. in my dr.
in my dr, i looked the exact same as here. i came from a small family of wolfbloods. i decided to take my family in my h2o reality and put them here as well. it has a similar coming of age theme. at a certain age, a wolfblood transforms just as in my h2o dr, once you are a certain age, you can go and become a merfolk. in this dr, i lived in england my entire life there and attend the same school as the main cast. however, i am not friends with the main cast nor enemies.
i can sense something is up with them as they act weird in class but can't put my finger on it. i scripted it so i was unaware of the identities on my peers.

‧₊˚🌿 forest dr ‧₊˚🌿

april 2024 - now
time spent in dr; two months
copying this from a previous post here, don't mind me.
'so a bit about my dr that i am shifting to. it is not any fandom related dr but instead an alternate reality where i live in the forest in an advanced tree house. think of the houses in trees type. i spend a lot of time there meditating, practicing spells, and spending time with the animals there but especially wolves. i still have internet connection but irl i don't live close to nature so this is just perfect for me. i'm happy in both this reality and my dr. i switch between the two whenever i feel like it.'
i also shifted to this one first astral projecting. but now i just meditate until i shift. when i shift, i am also in the same meditating position as well. i wanted this to instead be connected to my waiting room, to become a sort of escapism for myself. just in a different way.
you can see the posts i made about the outfits that i wear in this dr here if you want! you can also see more of my outfits in that reality here as well. :)
i shifted to this reality using my meditation method.

⋆🔗 ˚⟡˖ ࣪ conclusion ⋆ ˚⟡˖ ࣪🔗

this is all i have for today! i hope you enjoyed it. perhaps this gave you all motivation or some scripting and reality ideas. i may have forgotten some things to include and add. apologies if some stuff didn't make sense. i hope you enjoyed the read though!
i will say this as well and leave you off with some general scripting ideas
: ̗̀➛ you cannot die
: ̗̀➛ you cannot get hurt
: ̗̀➛ you always get a good night sleep
: ̗̀➛ if you have chronic illnesses like me, you can script that your chronic illnesses are more manageable or you simply just don't have it.
that is all i have for now and happy shifting! ᥫ᭡

it is confirmed
the flashbang by the silver ships are a multi-layered attack across superluminal digital signals, datalink neural interrupt signals, hard super-electromagnetic pulse, and a multi-ripple phasic attack, all compressed together

High-Resolution image of the Bird of Paradise quilt?
https://preview.redd.it/umch55qnj90d1.jpg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1c042f7d851d38630223c53cc2c8584544f6e77
Hi all — I apologize if this isn't the place to ask, but I figure there are folks here with knowledge of/access to online art repositories.
The Bird of Paradise quilt housed in the American Folk Art Museum is an all-time favorite piece of art for me, and I haven't been able to visit and see it in person. I'd like to find a high-resolution image of the full quilt (the bigger the better!) so that I can study the details more closely. There are a few large images online that were taken through glass at an exhibit, but the lighting and color isn't ideal. I love the quality of the color in the photo used for Iron and Wine's 'Archive Series Vol. 1' album cover, and if that's a crop from a larger scan or photo of the full quilt, I'd love to find it. I've searched online (Google images, Wikiart, the museum's website) with little luck. Do any of you happen to have a file or print of this piece, or could you point me in a direction to look for it? Thank you for any help!

2024.05.13 22:49 ReadySetGeek Artist for An Old One Shot. Writer feedback appreciated.

Hey been lurking on here forever and finally just deciding to bite the bullet and see if I can finally get at least one of the comics I've written some love and do a small print run that I would probably distribute here in Pittsburgh at some of the cons and stores I have connections at.
I went to school as a playwright, have written and staged several at various sized companies and colleges. I've published a few things, written some short films and hell we even created and staged our live game show for awhile.
Life happens, kids, steady income beckons, time erodes but I really miss having a creative outlet.
Right now though, I have dusted off a one-shot that I wrote that really was meant to be sort of a highlight of the era of Rob Leifeld style 90s comics into the more modern realistic but violent and darker era.
It's very action focused but still some Bendis heavy dialogue minus talking head panels.
It's called The Last Stand. If an artist wants to check out the script, I've included the link. If any writers want offer feedback, I more than welcome it. Always room to grow better.
Willing to discuss pay rates but realistically I'm looking in the 50-70 range for pencils and ink. More if you color and letter. I will of course cover printing and distribution costs.
So...here's The Last Stand.

2024.05.13 22:42 newyork0120 The Met Gaia Is The Latest Casualty As Leftist Protesters Turn On Their Masters

Every year I’m confronted with the decision of whether to talk about the Met Gala. And it can be a tough decision if I’m being totally honest - on one hand, it’s always easy to point and laugh at rich Leftists wearing weird costumes and making fools out of themselves; on the other hand, it’s gotten way too easy to do that, and as far as celebrity freak shows go, the Met Gala is sort of like the Oscars at this point: its supposed “unpredictability” is now cliche, its zaniness is now boring. Unless mayhem breaks out—say, like an actor slaps the presenter live on-stage or something like that—then the truth is that no one really cares about any of these events anymore - in fact, I’m still not even sure what the Met Gala is. All I know is that the celebrities dress strangely and then go into I guess a big museum. What do they do inside the museum? Is there some kind of award ceremony? Is it a dance? Is it like celebrity prom or something? Do they sacrifice a live goat and drink its blood while chanting satanic curses? Is it some combination of these things? Nobody knows for sure. And most of all, nobody cares.
But fortunately, something interesting did happen at the Met Gala last week, or at least outside of it. Mobs of pro-Palestine demonstrators, apparently bored of their tent cities on college campuses, slowly marched through Manhattan towards the Met, and when they arrived, they tore down the police barricades and flooded the street.
Just for fun, here’s Lizzo dressed like something that you might find inside an unflushed toilet at Panda Express, and that’s what she wore to the Met Gala while riots raged outside in a clash of poor commies versus rich commies, as Peachy Keenan put it. These riots should also bring to mind I think some immediate logistical considerations that the Democratic Party now has to think about - for one thing, it’s safe to say that planning for the Democratic National Convention is going through some last-minute revisions right about now. Just imagine being in charge of security for the DNC; you’re gonna need bigger barricades than they had at the Met, and probably a lot more cops.
But more barricades and cops aren’t gonna fix the underlying problem that the Democratic Party has created here. There’s now a full-on uprising on the Left against the elitism that Democrats have long embraced - and the media is getting involved, too. Yahoo, for example, has already turned on the Met Gala; they just published a piece declaring, “The Met Gala’s Opulence Is Always Gross. This Year, It’s Obscene.”
Now, the whole article is a rant that hits a crescendo with this paragraph, which is probably the single-longest run-on sentence I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Here it is, this whole thing is one sentence, just so you know:
Even in an era filled with the horrors of late-stage capitalism run amok—bipartisan support for genocide; rolling back of reproductive, civil, and voting rights; a threadbare social safety net; decades of wage stagnation; tax cuts for the the rich; the crushing of unions and labor rights; expansion of the militarized police surveillance state; creeping techno-authoritarianism; untested, unregulated, and unchecked A.I.; entrenched racial inequality and injustice; right-wing and white supremacist extremist violence; and Boeing jet parts falling from the sky like so many dead whistleblowers—that kind of frivolous urgency promises that this year’s event nonetheless will stand out as a vainglorious display of self-congratulatory decadence and tone-deaf extravagance.
Now, first of all, just as a stylistic matter, if you’re going to make a sentence that long, it needs to be coherent. And “Boeing jet parts are falling from the sky like so many dead whistleblowers?” That doesn’t even make sense; the dead whistleblowers didn’t fall from the sky. I mean, they’re not being pushed out planes. One of them shot himself allegedly and the other died of an illness. Now, even if you subscribe to the theory that Boeing’s hitmen killed these whistleblowers—which, who knows, maybe they did—the fact remains that they didn’t fall from the sky. They died on the ground, so the metaphor just doesn’t work. And this is the problem you get into with 100-word sentences: eventually, you just lose track of what you’re saying.
In any event, that whole massive paragraph could be summed up as saying, “We’re living through late-stage capitalism right now.” That’s what the Left-wing media is saying. That’s the way that they are framing this, and of course, “late-stage capitalism” is one of their favorite phrases to use these days. And they used to celebrate the Met Gala, but not anymore. Now they’re saying the same thing the demonstrators are, which is that the frivolous elite are partying while Rome burns—which they are, of course—and they’re furious about it, or pretending to be.
Now, what the media and these demonstrators don’t want to admit is that the elitists at this gala—all the celebrities who are dressed like slutty Star Wars villains and so on—are on their team. The celebrities are part of the ruling class, the protesters and media critics are its products and in some cases quite literally its offspring. Now, to be sure, the celebrities and college administrators and the politicians are reluctant to acknowledge that their own Frankenstein monster is turning against them, but that’s exactly what’s happening.
Remember that it was two years ago that AOC showed up to the Met Gala with a “Tax the Rich” gown. There were a bunch of sympathetic news stories highlighting her bravery at the time, and here’s how AOC justified showing up to an event that costs $300,000 per table while equipped with a custom dress, handbag, shoes and jewelry costing more than $2,000.
REPORTER: “You know this dress has a message for this Met Gala, tell me about what that is.”
AOC: “You know, I made a message, it says ’Tax the Rich’ right there, uh, it’s really about having a real conversation about fairness and equity in our system, and I think that this conversation is particularly relevant as we debate over budget and reconciliation down. What we’re talking about, providing working families with child care, healthcare, and meeting the climate crisis [unintelligible]* it deserves. … I think that ultimately, you know, we’re at a very critical point. I think there are some folks who are starting to really understand that this is a very critical conversation for us to be having right now. Other folks have invested interest in not having that conversation, but our point is to keep organizing and keep it going.”*
It’s a really important conversation, AOC says, some people aren’t ready to hear it, but we need to punish rich people, we need to make them as uncomfortable as possible, we need to take their money, and that was the message from AOC, who not incidentally, grew up in a very well-off suburb.
Her whole schtick was always hypocritical and disingenuous, of course, but it turns out that Leftist activists were listening to this rhetoric, I guess, they were taking it seriously, we’ve seen this a lot lately. When Chuck Schumer threatened Supreme Court justices, Leftists showed up at the justices’ homes; when the White House claimed that “trans kids” were being abused, a Leftist shot and killed Christians; when Democrats accused Israel of “genocide,” college students occupied university buildings; now two years after AOC attacked the Met, leftist gathered outside of the building.
This is the escalation that Democrats have primed this country for; it’s now in progress, whether Democrats intended it to happen to THEM or not—which, of course, they didn’t—but that’s not to say that ruling elites are going to roll over and let this happen. I mean, as you saw in that footage, the cops showed up in force and started making arrests the very second that protestors trespassed through the barricades in front of the Met. They were on the scene immediately.
Now, that’s kind of a noticeable contrast when compare it to other things like when these people set up encampments on college campuses, they were given in most cases a few days, maybe a week, before the cops moved in; when they looted and burned poor neighborhoods, they were given about three months to inflict carnage before anyone did anything about it; but when they showed up at the Met Gala, they were given three SECONDS before the arrests started. So it really shows you kind of how the hierarchy works.
The Democrats can’t protect the rest of the country from these mobs, nor do they intend to. So last night, in addition to creating a scene at the Met Gala, Leftists also vandalized a World War I memorial in New York and torched an American flag in front of it.
So please note, again, the contrast, the hierarchy, and the fact that this was happening at the exact same time as the Met Gala thing - REALLY shows you where the priorities are when you notice what kinds of illegal demonstrations the police will stop and which demonstrations they’ll allow to continue. The mob can deface World War I memorials all they want because in doing so, they’re communicating their hatred for this country and everything it stands for. So the Democrats who run New York aren’t going to stop them. But the mob isn’t allowed to inconvenience celebrities at the Met under any circumstances.
The point is that this is the hierarchy that Democrats clearly want to enforce. The trouble is getting the mob to RESPECT the hierarchy, and the Democrats are having trouble with that at the moment.
Yet they still seem oblivious, the Democrats are—or acting oblivious, at least—to the fact that they created this monster themselves, and that’s why inside the Met, as chaos unfolded outside, the party continued uninterrupted, and so did all of this associated weirdness, which was as off-putting as it’s ever been - take for example this decoy costume worn by someone using the name “Karol G.” Now, apparently she wanted to keep her real costume a secret, so earlier in the evening, she sported this beige umbrella-looking lampshade thing instead.
Now, imagine being a hardcore, AOC-loving Leftist who sees this - Democrats have spent the last several years telling you to despise rich people and commit crimes in the name of political activism, and then down the street from your hippy commune at the local university, some celebrity is walking around in a lampshade costume which probably costs $50,000 or something, and the entire Democratic Party establishment is pretending that it’s all normal. What do you do? How would you view the Democratic Party establishment after seeing this?
Now, as for the costume itself, of course, it’s clearly a bid for attention, and I guess it worked—I’m talking about it—but it’s not even an original idea - as a lot of people have pointed out, the outfit bears a striking resemblance to a certain shower curtain costume from the film “Karate Kid,” only with different colors, so there’s really no redeeming qualities whatsoever here, it’s a total debacle all around.
But to be fair, there was at least some originality on display last night - for example, this celebrity apparently walked through a wind tunnel full of roses somewhere before arriving at the Met, and for her trouble, Vogue named her as one of the best-dressed women of the evening.
We can assume again that this… woman?… paid many thousands of dollars for that outfit, which is just a trench coat with flower peddles and glitter glued onto it. It really looks like something a four-year-old girl might make. As everybody knows, in the mind of a four-year-old girl, anything and everything can be made prettier with copious amounts of glitter and flowers, which is a fine mentality for a small child; doesn’t translate very well in this case. And as self-congratulatory as it is, again, there’s no self-awareness whatsoever - it’s almost as if the entire purpose of the event is to celebrate the elites’ total inability to detect how preposterous, self-absorbed, and laughable they are.
An this is nothing new, it’s been the case since the Met Gala was established, it’s always been a mini-theater of the absurd. What’s changed is that the voting base of the Democratic Party isn’t laughing along with these clowns as much anymore. They turned against the universities; now they’ve turned against Hollywood. What the protesters of course don’t understand is that they have inherited their own worldview and everything they believe from these very institutions and these very people.
Hollywood and Academia don’t realize that they’re being attacked by their own Frankenstein, but the Frankenstein monster also doesn’t realize that it IS the Frankenstein monster. And if Frankenstein ever wakes up to that fact, well then the ruling class will really be in trouble.

Chosen, this colors, thanks again reddit, now last decision: which one is the principal logo for the instagram icon?
brief: so this is for a furniture atelier company (atelier because its a mix between a design studio and a workshop) they make art pieces with bamboo, anything really, from spoons, jewlery, houses, museum exhibitions, festival booths, etc. their designs are very good, elegant and simple, they are a bit disruptive since they use a lot of AI in their design process and technologies, they aalso have this young feeling to their designs, they are based in Tulum and outside from their logo colors, they want to experiment more risky colors like bright pinks, phosphorescent greens etc.
They use instagram as their main platform btw, that's why its round. SO
WHICH ONE FOR THE INSTAGRAM ICON?

2024.05.13 21:13 AllKindsOfCritters [Request] Birthday cards for my 40th [US]

My birthday is next week on the 22nd. I know this is a little bit of a late request, I'd managed to forget about this sub despite being so active once. I don't have many people in my life and that's hitting me hard with a milestone coming up, I'd love to have some cards to open. Honestly I'd love anything interesting or pretty, or spooky if you've got it- here's some specifics for those with huge collections to sift through, it doesn't have to be exactly any of this but maybe it can give you ideas as well:
Interests: Forests, landscapes, gardens full of colorful flowers and/or succulents, clouds, rainbows, the ocean, autumn & winter, dinosaurs, dogs, tigers, huge animals like elephants and giraffes, sea creatures, insects, dandelions, sunflowers, daisies, old-fashioned apothecary jars, road trips, old architecture, abandoned buildings, vine-covered houses, museums, libraries, trains, Disneyland, cemeteries, LGBTQ+ stuff, 90s stuff, vintage cars/appliances/wallpaper. Handmade cards and your own photography are welcome. NSFW and profanity are fine.
Nothing with any politicians, alt-right stuff, maggots, cockroaches, nothing anti LGBTQ+, I know I said "spooky" but nothing showing blood.

2024.05.13 21:03 TheGuylnTheChair 25 [M4F] Europe/Anywhere - If you giggle, you owe me a chat!

Dear poor soul that's about to read whatever comes out in the incoming flood of nonsense, thanks for being here. Also, I want to thank my parents, my friends, my aunts and.. Oh, sorry, I don't know how to start writing those things, so I guess I should start from the beginning? Here I go:
It was a sunny day in 1998, when a sweet young lady had a contraction and... oh gosh, sorry again. I will fast forward a bit. I’m a 25 year old guy from Bosnia and Herzegovina (from what and what?!) looking for someone to help me finish all the pasta I make every day (I never get it right). I come with an endless supply of terrible jokes and random pocket snacks. I love art and music. Jazz clubs, museums, and mountains are where my heart lives. I like visiting new cities, trying new cuisines, and finding⁴r moments of tranquility amid the chaos. Also, I also absolutely love movies and books (wow, super unique) . Physically, I'm tall, my eyes still work, and girls said I have a nice butt.
I have a cute hamster too so if you read all this and thought "omg he is so boring, I can't stand him anymore" then just bear with me a little longer and you can see Captain Hamsterstein in all his glory once you pm me.
As I'm still kinda not sure about all this and have no idea how anything really works, I'll keep my options open for whatever. So, looking for a friend? I'm your man. Need a shoulder to cry? Still your man. Memes exchange? Hell yeah! Relationship? Tell me what kind of restaurant you fancy for our date. Wedding? The suit is ready. Nonsense flirting? Count me in. Serious talks? Let me put my smart face. In short, up for whatever and whenever, keep it colorful!
Also, I'm just looking for someone who I can chill with, talk to about various different topics. Someone that challenges you in different ways and makes you a better person. That you can joke with and be serious with when necessary. That's most of what I ask for, everything else is an added bonus. Or you could just have a cat and I'm all yours (please don't tell Captain Hamsterstein).
I'm not really good at talking about myself so I'll just leave that part for you to ask about whatever you're interested in.
Keep in mind that our timezones may be different so there's a possibility that I won't be able to answer immediately but I'll try my best to get to you as soon as possible!
Also ( at this point I'm afraid to count how many times I've written the word "also"), I'm open for a photo exchange if that's something that will get the conversation going (you could also check my post history to get the idea about my looks).
You read this far? Omg, get a life! But seriously, feel free to message me (WARNING: High probability of more nonsense) and let's see how it goes. Just behave yourself cause I am legally allowed to handcuff you.
Meanwhile, have a lovely day or night or whatever and take care!
PS, don't text me if you're only into my kidneys.

I enjoyed my first-ever trip to Kolkata; highly recommend!
TL;DR: Thanks for having me in your city. I had a great time!
Artwork depicting Kolkata
I had lunch at the original location!
Desserts/mithai
Avartana 9-course tasting menu
Fennel Panna Cotta
I am a Mumbai guy and visited Kolkata for the first-time ever. I visited during the worst possible season when the temperatures were 42-44 degC at their max, but I had a great time.
I was supposed to visit with my friend but she couldn't make it due to some reasons and I ended up having a solo trip. No worries because I love to travel solo. (She informed me well in advance, so it's not like she canceled last minute.)
Stay:
I stayed at the ITC Royal Bengal for 3 nights and chose to spend 1 night at The Oberoi Grand. Why different hotels? Just to experience the hotels and the neighborhoods. Both hotels were great. The hard product (rooms and amenities) was really great at ITC, but the soft product (service) was much better at Oberoi.
Food:
  • I should preface with: I am a vegetarian.
  • I went to 6 Ballygunge Place to try authentic Bengali food and opted for their buffet. I enjoyed it a lot.
  • I also had the 9-course menu at Avartana in ITC Royal Bengal; it was a great experience. I know that having South Indian food in Kolkata is a faux paus - why not have more local food instead? But I wanted to try out that restaurant and it was indeed very good.
  • I had my breakfasts at ITC and Oberoi, so I didn't venture out for that.
  • I enjoyed the street kathi rolls.
  • I had delicious desserts - rasgulla, sandesh, mishti doi, and Tiramisu (I know... there's an imposter in here, but I enjoyed them all).
  • I had good drinks (beers and cocktails) at various bars (and trust me, I tried a lot of them on Park St - Social, Effingut, Olterra, to name a few, at bars in Salt Lake City, and the bars in ITC & Oberoi. Yes, I drank a lot every night that I was there; yes, I know I have a problem. Haha).
Visit:
I wanted to have a relaxing trip and so I didn't go overboard on the sightseeing.
I checked out Prinsep Ghat, Old Kolkata heritage buildings (High Court, Bidhan Sabha, Town Hall, Raj Bhavan, etc.), Howrah Bridge, Vidyasagar Setu, Victoria Memorial, Salt Lake neighborhood, some temples (didn't go to any major ones), Kumartuli, Bara Bazar, College Street, Alipore Museum, Golf Course, etc.
Due to the heat (Mumbai was at 32 degC, whereas Kolkata was at 44 degC), I chose to just do a private caUber ride for most of these places. I had hired a good local guide (who also drove me around) and showed me all the places. I also went to Howrah and saw Nabanna (obviously, from outside).
Traveling around/Transportation:
I chose to fly into and out of Kolkata. I was initially thinking of taking a train, but then looking at the time it would have taken from Mumbai, I chose air travel instead and am very glad about it. Vistara had good on-time service both ways. It set the right tone for the trip.
As I mentioned earlier, I booked a private car for some of the sightseeing and took Ubers around for the most part. I did ride the tram (number 5) from Esplanade to College Street and took the Metro back from Girish Park to Esplanade just to experience it.
Shopping:
I didn't do a lot of shopping, but bought myself a kurta (Panjabi) and dhuti from Adi Akshoy at Triangular Park. I hadn't researched on shopping and the guide directed me here.
I bought a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses because I was walking past a store and really thought of getting a new pair of sunglasses (while I was wearing another pair of Ray-Bans). Tbh, I could have just bought this in Mumbai, but it was an impulse buy.
And then I bought a lot of books at the airport for my return. Argh! I already have so many at home, but couldn't resist. I should have just headed to the airport lounge directly instead of wasting time in the terminal shopping for books.
Some things worth mentioning:
  • I guess this is the Indian city with the maximum modes of transportation - taxis, auto-rickshaws, 6-people rickshaws, hand-pulled rickshaws, trams, buses, private buses, old Metro, new Metro, ferries, small boats, Ubers, Uber Bike (I don't see this in Mumbai), etc.
  • Salt Lake seems very different from the rest of the city.
  • When the CM moved the CM's office to Nabanna, technically, since the CM sits in the capital city, does that make Howrah the capital city now? I know it's not and it would anger most people here, but just was wondering. My guide had no idea; he kept on insisting that Kolkata is the capital of the state. Haha.
  • I found a lot of similarities in the British architecture in Kolkata and (South) Mumbai, but Kolkata has a red-and-white color scheme going on a lot. I am no expert in Victorian or baroque architecture, so pardon me if there are vast differences in style.
  • I didn't get to visit some major sights like Belur Math or Dakhineswar Temple. I chose to be lazy in the hotels and relax at the swimming pools instead. The afternoon heat made the pools and the air-conditioned bars (cold beers and G&Ts) very inviting. That's ok, I guess.
  • I couldn't find a place for jhaal muri! I got dry jhaal muri at the airport lounge on my way out, but it wasn't the authentic experience I was looking for. Where should I have looked?
  • I loved your aloo dum and luchis.
  • I wanted to get the shakha pola bangles for my mother, but I couldn't find any place. My guide took me to a (gold) jeweler... um, no, that's not the same thing. Where should I have gone? I feel bad that I didn't bring anything back for my mom from the trip :(
Just other some things:
(and I am not trying to look down upon it, but just writing a truthful account of my experience)
  • ITC Royal Bengal was a shitshow on the weekend! It was overcrowded due to the IPL (and some football matches as well) - I saw a lot of foreign and Indian players, but since I don't follow cricket, I couldn't recognize anyone. But everyone in the lobby - me, other guests, including those players - was frustrated because check-in was taking a long time; they made me wait 2+ hours just to check-in! It wasn't just me; most guests were frustrated and this was not expected from ITC. Sunday breakfast was also like a zoo; it was overpacked. Note to self: avoid visiting this hotel on weekends.
  • Oberoi Grand is nice, but the whole aesthetic is very dated. I understand it is a heritage property with grand vanities and beds in teakwood which is supposed to be the ultimate old-school wealth indicating the person comes from wealth, but when compared with the contemporary and modern look at ITC, it felt very dated. Also, if you are staying at the Oberoi, please try to get an inside-facing (pool-facing) room; the view outside is not at all something special you would want to view.
  • Please don't take this the wrong way: There should be more focus on the overall cleanliness by the city municipal corporation. And I say this coming from Mumbai, which I am fully aware is not known for its cleanliness either. But Mumbai seems cleaner. For example, I took a kathi roll somewhere on Park Street and was walking around looking for a dustbin/garbage can to throw the wrapper and my tissue papepaper napkin, but there was none! I walked a few blocks just searching for one. I asked around and people laughed at me. Finally, a paanwala told me - just throw it on the side, there are no dustbins here; a guy comes in the morning and cleans it all - that's not good imho. There were just piles of trash littered on the sides of the streets and foot paths, which is sad. Also, the route from ITC to Oberoi (via Dhapa Road and Debendra Chandra Dey Road) was interesting...
Overall: 5/5 stars

2024.05.13 20:25 gaybro69420 Anyone ever been to the Lucy Desi museum?

I went once when I was a senior in HS. (‘06.) I’m happy that museum is still a popular destination despite being in such a small town. Has it changed since 06? I remember seeing a framed photo of Lucy and Desi with their kids, playing with balloons. Wish I could find it in color. Also, is her blue Liz Taylor outfit there? Or at the exhibit in Universal Orlando resort? I feel like that one houses her gray Vitameatavegamin/Job Switching dress. I have a pic of me at the Vitameatavegamin table doing a taste test 🤣 I saw her “5 ft 2 Eyes of Blue” ukulele on display too, at one of the exhibits.

sadly i have no idea how to post it so you can play with it. the only way I found is EasyZOom but it degrades quality dramatically and changes colors. SO here is a video (ending is a bit NSFW-ish. )
https://youtu.be/tR4Oi5gjL5M
WOrkflow is simple but time consuming and needs resources. I generated 4k illustration. Upscaled in gigapixel. After that opened image in PS and cut out peaces I put in A1111 and unpainted. My goal was to zoom so much - you could zoom into castle window and see interior with humans but i`m not sure its possible. Even my 64gb vram and 4090 struggles heavily.
PS I am working on almost automatic solution. TO cut image into 1024x1024 tiles and img2img they and them collage in photoshop with a script. But it has visible edges between tiles which can be fixed manually
Update: EasyZOom link https://www.easyzoom.com/imageaccess/2df49d2f3ed842ca9757e00e4b3a0994 And link for local downloading https://pixeldrain.comJbySpiH2

2024.05.13 19:07 jtinmoscow Color preferences keep getting reset

Every time I run Matlab using a batch script (running a matlab script in a loop), it keeps changing my color preferences to either the default or something completely different (I don't remember what the default looks like anymore). So I keep having to change it back. This does not happen when I'm running the script with the Matlab app open. Anyone know why it's happening and how I can prevent this in the future?

2 SNS-001 Consoles For Parts/Not Working 2 For Parts/Not Working consoles that have been broken down, including one housing (has some chips/cracks), 2 motherboards, all components, however some are guaranteed to not work. The boards themselves may have additional issues beyond the removed chips, I have no way to test or check them. Neither of these motherboards work. Both of them were giving different graphical issues on the screen, so I thought I'd be clever and try to swap some chips around, but found out as I was doing it that I have no experience with it and was in way over my head. I do not know if there are working chips here to even create one working SNES, as far as I'm aware all of the graphics chips/etc. are bad. Pics here $35
