2024.05.14 20:20 KShrish Tips for Audit for September exam.

I am a 22 Yo BTech direct entry student who is going to attend Jan25 examination for both groups.
After tackling subjects which are voluminous in BTech I learnt a few things.
  1. Go through that Audit book given by ICAI, mark or highlight what you think are important keywords.
  2. After marking write that keyword in your note book
  3. Do book back problems and test your understanding questions
  4. Read the summary and check if what you have marked and summary are matching
  5. Most important of all. After checking Use Active recall. Use apps where you can enter the question and see if you can answer. Eg. Let's say I finished 3-3-3 chapters in 3 months. Every month I finish 3 chapters I would put in the questions in that app as soon as I finish 1 chapter one by one. Don't let it out of your sight.
All the best.( Medical and Engineering students use this method frequently)

Rise up. It is time to return.
Arose
A Rose
Rose
Flower
Thorn. Prick. Blood. Drop. Tear. B. O. 1 2 3
Here we are again. Staring at the beginning. Everything is in chaos and yet it manages to keep on passing by just the same as always. Most people by now are aware that things just don’t seem to make sense anymore and no one really knows what to do. I mean many seem to have an opinion on what ought to happen, but actual action is what I am talking about. How does thought turn into action? How do collected actions become a movement? How do the People use the Power of the People? The People Unite. How? Turn to each other of course. Brothers and Sisters of the same Source. Sons and Daughters. In Equality.
Too long has everyone been waiting for someone else to come do it for them. Been trying to create and fabricate over and over again words and rituals to try to control the divine powers of the cosmos. It does not work like that. There is no magic spell to wash away your sins. You must atone through action to make up for any harm you have caused intentionally or unintentionally. You still have time to repent. The amount of time you have is counted in the seconds of your life. Not a single second is promised to you so the gamble is up to you to choose. Freewill. Life your life as you always have or make changes, up to you. Only you will know if you are living righteously and not self righteously. Testing has already begun and will continue. No you will not know when it is a test or not. That is the point. Did you think that I would come to you in a form where you would be all fearing? Oh no. Why? Because you would simply put on an act for me and kiss ass. I came hidden in the ordinary. Poor and common. I have had an inside view of the systems created and how humans have chosen to run things, how systems claiming to protect people have failed and how the system that talks good does not actually do good. I see where things are not working and where people think they can make decisions for other human beings to determine what is best for them without asking them. That is not okay. Nothing gives you right over another’s life. And so many forgot what integrity is. Doing the right thing when no one is looking. Well, so many thought their power here was real and man made a deal with the Devil, Satan, Son of Samuel, Son of Man, to make man the concept of “God” and tried to lock me away. I gave up everything to prove it is not easy to be me and to stop with self pity and cruelty to one another.
The human body. It is a vessel for your soul to experience this world. The body provides the filters necessary to perceive and interact with this world. There is much more happening and one would be overwhelmed by the amounts of information to process without these filters. To feel and in those feelings are to make each experience real. However, it is temporary, as everything is temporary. We have slowed down time here in order to be able to enjoy the sensations. Time here however, is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. It is merely to track to organize one's day and to see growth to compare as time passes. However, the actual time folds upon itself as we have already done what we are doing many times over. We have already tried out everything and decided what path we wanted to take in our lives based upon what was available to us. Thus, we do not have more than we can handle. We have all chosen our burdens to bear as it is too much for one individual to hold alone which was done in the past. This is part of the sorting process. Now that we all share in the sins and the pains, no one is made to suffer eternal torment. This life was to allow those who were created into entities of pain or torment through no fault of their own to choose the life that matched the being of who they were as what they were different as time and space and everything developed. Righteousness and Evil are not synonymous to demons or angels as many would like to believe. This is a current misconception as Satan and I conclude who will be right in this experience you have all participated in. So far, I am proving to be right. Also to note, not everything is as you think it is. Many have figured out the true origin of Satan versus the man or human embodiment of or desire of A Satan to project evils onto to call a Religion and set up for personal importance. Q AZHow can you tell a false prophet? Easy. What is their profit? Get it? I know I’m funny. Also wanted to keep it easy. If they are making a profit on anything they are a false prophet. Any true prophet, and I have none so far, all live equally and the same as anyone else. No money is taken for personal gain. Nothing is for personal gain. There is no 888 Angel code for money. Money is Man-Made. Man traded Mother for Money. Hence, Mothers have been lost in the homes and no one is raising the children. Thus, there are so many children in adult bodies with no mothers in the home and women being made to feel guilty if they do not achieve the same as a man. Remember the phrase it takes a village? Well, the broken family system is a real sad loss here in man made world pushing everyone to be individual and self sufficient. Also so many with wanting attention and pursuing personal endeavors for personal gain and not helping anyone else in a real way. The journey is personal. Of course, you want to share what you experienced with others, but what worked for you will not work for them, stop trying to sell it. Stop trying to make people follow you for you to teach your divine wisdom you remembered. It isn’t about You. You don’t even have the full story, you have your story. And, yes you can be very close to me, very similar to me, in my image, but you can never BE me. Doesn’t work like that. Reflection. So when jealousy arises when you think I am who you think I am. That is part of your test and your journey. You wrestle with that feeling and atone and repent for that which has been done and that which still lingers now. Oh there is a place for everyone and I am quite tired of trying to warn people. Clearly you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink.
Why do you not want it to be me so badly? Because I proved my love? You still think I am better than you or do I think I’m always right. No I do not think I am always right, I just know when I am right and I stand by it. There is a difference. You constantly overgeneralize. I gave up all the magic and thunder to live as a simple human and am still kind and loving? I still found my way back. Because you can no longer say I do not understand because I always get what I want? No. You do not understand. I never get what I want, because I make everything about you and still nothing was ever good enough. So, now...it in on you to save yourself and each other. In my image, by my example. Selflessness. Love. Compassion. Give to receive. Take only what you need and give the rest away. I find out so stop lying to yourself and everyone, you aren’t fooling anyone anyway. How do I know? By watching what you do. We have these same conversations over and over, the same argument over and over again. So many different ways, so many different times, through so many different people, so many different versions. Save you. Save Me. Say it for always.
Anyhow, Jesus challenges the Jewish priests who were taking collection money for personal use and adding personal baths to their residents at a time where the people only had a community bath where women and persons with disabilities were not allowed to bathe. And yet churches still do this after Jesus was crucified saying that, that was wrong. I am appalled. The Vatican is the biggest disappointment I have ever seen. It is truly the house of Satan as only Evil hides secrets. “THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.” A church cannot be a “House of God” and house no people who need housing. A roof can be offered to anyone and yet there are so many rules to prevent people from helping each other. Power and control. Abuse of both. Greed. It is out of hand and needs to be changed. Too many are afraid and the complacency of good people is too much. Why do you do this to yourselves? To each their own I suppose.
I will only leave here my words and my advice. As always, it is on you to find me. I’m right here. Waiting. Right here waiting for you. Helping those of you who want it when they cross my path. The purpose of this was to weigh your soul to determine where you will go into the next life as the system is balanced out in a final version so to speak. Permanent.
Fear not. You will be where your heart truly desires. But actions always speak louder than words. But man made money has no value, nor does any metals, jewels, and so on, so the collection of it in this life has no bearing on the next. Those are all made of the same stardust as you and I. And in the end of 3D it will all be diamonds anyways. Diamond is forever. There is no going back. So what are you hoarding? You cannot keep it. Who could you be helping for goodness sake? Don’t want to still. That is okay. Think I am just crazy. That is okay too. It is all part of the test...err..assessment. Do your best.
What is in your heart?
Home.
I need a home.
Stay tuned as more of my story unfolds. I give all the answers but you must do the work. I already did that hard part setting it all up. All you have to do is breathe and live. Time is the only real currency you have. What will you pay your attention to before this life runs out?

2024.05.14 20:19 Commercial_Papaya_79 ek nucleus 360 - looking for insight/tips for better performance

i recently jumped into water cooling and purchased the ek nucleus 360. i dont "need" an aio, my air cooler was fine.
this is a brand new build for me also. i haven't built a pc in 12-13 years. but the aio installation went smooth. one reason why i picked the ek over the new arctic LF3 is ease of installation for am5.
aio is installed on the top of the case, exhausting hot out. i have the typical fan setup for this case, three 140s front intake and one 140 rear fan exhaust.
i run fancontrol and using the same graph, with pump running at 100% all the time.
i dont notice any temperature improvement between the air and aio coolers at all.
temps look exactly the same for idle, gaming, and benchmark load tests.
idle: 43-45c aio, 40-43 aircooler (fan speed is about 45% during idle)
gaming: 55-60c both
benchmarking: 80-84c both
ambient room: 21-23c
i hear the 7800x3d has weird temp spikes and it's completely normal.
is there anything i can do to improve temp performance? i have 3 spare phantek t30s that i might do a push/pull config, but i hear that doesn't change much.

2024.05.14 20:18 DefiantPersonality87 Why Would YouTube Stubbornly Refuse to Pull a Video to a Viewer?

I've been experimenting with incognito/private browsing to see what happens if a user with no watch history watches my videos. I want to try to lead the algorithm to promote my latest video to this pretend user to see what it takes. If you can explain these results you're a genius or a youTube employee:
Very briefly:
  1. I find one of my videos via search
  2. Click it, watch it through the whole way, check the 'suggested' video list
  3. Observe multiple videos of mine popping up but not this one - click another of mine, watch it through
  4. Observe more videos of mine - mostly recent or popular - still no sign of the latest one..
  5. Latest is in a series called "Bully Takedown.." so only click other vids in that series as they appear on the suggested list YT pops up with at least 4 or 5 of the other ones). Watch them all the way through... still nothing.
The latest video has CTR of 20% and AVD of 85%... top source of its views are the Channel Pages. But YT will not promote it to anyone new via the suggested videos panel...
As above - I've clicked on as a random viewer, I've watched video after video of mine in the suggested panel (where this new video should be showing up); I've watched video after video of mine from the same SERIES (it shares a playlist with the other "Bully Takedown" vids...... ) and still the latest one with the crazy stats will not appear in the suggested panel, no matter how much I watch my own similar stuff YT will not pull that one into there. So this is getting zero new audience, it will never see the light of day because YT will not even test it.
Anyone got an answer to that riddle? Try it for yourself if you like, channel link in the bio. You can get every other video from the Bully Takedown series to appear on the suggested panel but the one that had CTR 20% and AVD 85% is the one YT refuses to pull into there.
What's going on?
*edit (sorry my stats were slightly off, adjusted!)

2024.05.14 20:16 ARsolaris The age old issue of STRINGS EVERYWHERE- Please help.

First things first, I have read the provided resources in the sub's FAQ's and such, and found no solutions before posting. Each spool of filament tested has been dried @50c for 96 hours each. The stringing issue does not happen on my second printer, so I know it is not the filament itself.
That being said- my modified ender 3 with a sprite extruder is stringing uncontrollably between every single travel. I have only tried PLA.
I have tried temperatures from 180 to 230 at 5 degrees per test, and retraction distances from 0.5mm to 6mm, at a resolution of 0.1 per test. I have tried both slicer retraction and firmware retraction. Z-lift does not effect the stringing. Timelapses introduce the creation of blobs to the print, but to not effect the stringing as a whole.
I have tried 3 spools of filament from 3 brands, none of which retain this issue on my other printer, so I am confident that it comes down to either my extruder or my settings.
Both of my printers are connected to Klipper through a Raspberry pi 4. (If it's important, the second printer without the problem is a nearly-stock ender 3 with the normal Bowden extruder.)
I will answer any needed questions, but I am begging you all, please help. Thank you in advance! :D

2024.05.14 20:16 HHH178 Need advice

I’m a US IMG, I was practicing abroad but decided to move back here. I’m supposed to be sitting the test in two weeks. The resources I’m using are FA, Uworld and Uworld flash cards. Recently I started watching some sketchy videos. My scores were fluctuating between 45% to 70%. Recently my scores have been declining to as low as 30%. I’m half way through uworld. I’m lost and I don’t know how to proceed. I’m thinking more about postponing the test and not gamble. My issue with the step 1 is that I understand the diagnoses relatively easily but I can’t seem to choose the right answer choice. I guess I’m a bad test taker. What do you think I should do. All replies appreciated

2024.05.14 20:15 eardil Replacing lost Linkbuds S

I just forgot my Linkbuds S in a trip. I bought them 2 years ago after doing lots of research and really liked them; very comfortable and light. I don't want to get in on yet another rabbit hole of research and thought about asking this very specific question here:
Is it worth it to get something different right now or should I just buy the linkbuds s again? For context:
Sorry if it's yet another generic question, I tried to streamline it for my needs.

2024.05.14 20:15 ShibeeShibe Question for the current/former clerks--how to emphasize admin experience to a judge?

Hi folks! Super specific question but I hope it's okay to post here.
A judge's clerk reached out to me after I applied to a clerkship position and I need some help deciphering what they're actually asking.
They said "This is primarily an administrative position and a legal position secondarily. Knowing that most of the work is primarily administrative . . . what experience do you have with this type of work? Are you willing to perform the administrative duties?"
I'm more than happy to do admin work, but I'm not 100% sure on how to answer the "experience" with this type of work question if I haven't clerked before. (I have prior non-legal work experience and 4 different litigation externships through school so I think I might have something to talk about, but I'm just not sure what.)
If anybody has an understanding, can you tell me what they're looking for here? Like what kind of experience for admin duties or any key capabilities/trigger words/etc I should know about and try to work into my answer?
Thank you guys!

2024.05.14 20:13 ICAZ117 Just got 506 today --- is a retake mid-July too late?

As the title states, I just got the 4/13 scores back today and received a 506, which was unsurprising. Good news is I can absolutely increase P/S by five or even six points (only got a 126), as school is now out, and I can dedicate full time to Pankow. What remains is the balancing act of want more and more time to study while limiting the impact of a delayed exam date. There are two dates open atm: June 27th and July 13th. Of course, those two dates result in a score availability of July 27th and August 13th.
Study needs:
I plan to apply at AMCAS on June 1st. Will my application automatically be judged based on my 506 score, or is there a way to tell adcoms to ignore my first MCAT and wait on my retake score? I did read that an application without an MCAT score is saved as "pending", leaving most schools to ignore the application until the scores are received. So what about in my case when a score is available. Do schools know I am retaking? Is that considered?
Any strong opinions on testing June 27th vs. July 13th? I am 100% confident in my ability to increase at least six points by July 13th. On the other hand, the June 27th date, two weeks earlier, is a bit tight...again, the balancing act of wanting enough time to study vs. the consequence of a delayed MCAT score.

2024.05.14 20:10 veglove Elderly father (81m) - Cipro risks (esp. tendonitis) + exercise + TURP procedure question

I'm writing with a question about my 81m father. We're having a difficult time reaching his urologist or his GP to answer this question. The TL;DR is that we're concerned about the risk of tendonitis for seniors while taking Cipro and want to know if it's ok for him to do low-impact activities/movement classes for seniors or if he should refrain from those while on Cipro. Any other advice you have about preventing risks of side effects while taking Cipro would be appreciated.Details: In preparation for his TURP procedure (which took place yesterday), his urologist prescribed a 7-day course of Ciprofloxacin to clear a catheter-related UTI before the procedure (a culture later revealed the bacteria to be Pseudomonas). The urologist insisted that he take Ciprofloxacin despite the warnings that we've read in the information brochure and elsewhere about higher risks of side effects for people age 60+ such as tendonitis and kidney damage (he is frequently dehydrated despite our prodding him to drink more fluids, although he hasn't been diagnosed with any kidney issues). We are very concerned about these risks and the doctor was a bit dismissive about our concerns.
He has been on it for about a week with no noticeable side effects so far. He had one day left of the 7-day course when he had his procedure yesterday and the procedure went well; he was released from the hospital 2 hours later. They prescribed another 5 day course of Cipro to take after the procedure; they didn't say why, but I'm assuming that it's to make sure that the Pseudomonas infection is fully resolved as well as killing any other harmful bacteria that he may have been exposed to during the procedure. He'll have a catheter in for 5 days following the procedure, and then they will be taking it out and hopefully leaving it out for good once they test his bladder function, which will be a big relief for all of us as he has been using one for 7 months now due to an enlarged prostate & prostate cancer that has so far been controlled with medication & monitored.
So far as I know he doesn't have any other contraindications regarding health history or medications. Going through the list of warnings in the brochure, he's not taking any corticosteroids, antidipressants, nor tizanidine. No history of tendon problems, liver problems, central nervous problems, nerve problems, bronchitis/respiratory illnesses, and recent heart tests show that it's still strong & healthy for his age (he's on statins). No diabetes or blood sugar issues, and no joint problems such as RA.
My father does have mild frontotemporal dementia which affects his coordination, so his physical therapist normally has him going to low-impact "silver sneaker" movement classes for seniors, and doing low-impact exercises at home as well. Does he need to refrain from doing these while he is on Cipro due to the higher risk of tendonitis? Out of precaution he hasn't been doing any of these low-impact activities but I'm concerned that it will negatively impact his coordination. I understand he's not supposed to do strenuous exercise or heavy lifting during TURP recovery, but is low-impact movement ok? Would love some advice on whether he should continue to refrain from low-impact activities or if he should continue those to maintain his coordination & balance.
ETA that he has never smoked and rarely drinks alcohol. He took one regular strength Tylenol for pain management after the procedure but the pain he has been experiencing is minimal, he hasn't needed any today.

2024.05.14 20:08 Due_Teaching_7560 I didn’t disclose I have Herpes until after we slept together.

The HSV Antibodies showed up on a full blood test panel during my pregnancy 18 years ago. If it wasn't for that panel, I never would have known because I never had any outbreaks and even thought I had a false positive at one point. It didn't dawn on me to research what strain I had and just assumed it was HSV2. I did all the research at the time and consulted with my doctors. It seems now even they were misinformed because one of them said if it were him, he wouldn't disclose it to short term partners as long as you don't have an active outbreak and use protection you are not contagious. I was only active with 2 people afterwards and fully disclosed it and they were completely unbothered. I was in a relationship with both at different times and they never caught it. One of them I ended up marrying for 10 years and we were active many times even when my immune system was low and not once did he catch it, so I assumed I couldn't pass it to anyone. Mind you I was going based on information from 18 years ago and thought I was fully educated. Well I met someone amazing and things progressed quickly. We had unprotected sex twice. Yes, I know I had to tell him at some point but it was an out of site out of mind thing and I had so much on my mind until my ex-husband brought it up and asked me if I had told him yet. I called him right then and there. He said he needed time to process it. It's been 5 days, he won't read my messages and won't answer my calls. After I researched more myself I realized it was so irresponsible of me. Yes, I know I f**** up big time and I have to live with those consequences. I am not trying to minimize this in anyway. If y'all need to attack me go ahead because I deserve it. This was the hardest lesson of my entire life and I know he won't ever forgive me. Any suggestions on how to make this right? Not trying to get him back because I don't deserve him but I would do anything to show him I am more than my mistake. Losing him is the price I have to pay for this and I deserve that punishment and more. I don't know how to move past this without feeling guilty about what I put him through.

2024.05.14 20:07 purplefish_16 Including Course Work as Research?

Been trying to find an answer to this question for the last couple of weeks on here and other internet sources but no luck.
This is a not a thesis course, just a very small upper level course.
However, 45% of our grade was based on us executing a study and writing a research paper that would have been submission ready for an undergraduate journal.
Went through all the steps from developing a research question, making letters of consent and information, getting ethics approval, collecting data with participants, doing statistical analysis and then writing the full paper with all the components. PI was listed as our professor.
Can I include this as research on AMCAS? Or no because it was to earn course credit? I have other research that I’m including (done at the hospital outside of school) but I wasn’t sure if I could use this as well.
If anything, I was more involved in this research project than the ones at my current lab because it was 100% my ideas that I saw through from very beginning until very end.
Thanks!!!

2024.05.14 20:03 RebellionWasTaken Questions Regarding Chaos Dot Damage Scaling

Hello!
Testing out what is essentially a meme build, but it brought up some real questions regarding chaos dot scaling. It doesn't really scale like poison does, so my previous knowledge of dot is not as up to date
  1. In terms of ascendancy, is Occultist basically mandatory in the scenario where we are ONLY scaling the chaos dot portion of things like soulrend and essence drain? From a basic look, it seems it's the only ascendacy that can really scale the damage the best besides the wither on pathfinder.
  2. Uptime on chaos dot skills seems to be an issue. Is part of why the archetype is unpopular is because it doesn't stack and requires a different way of scaling uptime that isn't more hits?
  3. Are Cluster Jewels really the best way to scale chaos dot damage currently?
Thanks for any answers!

2024.05.14 20:03 psicorabbit96 Have any of you done the MMPI-2 psychological test?

It is supposed to be a very legit psychological test.. I was diagnosed as a schizoid with narcissistic traits and I got a 98/100 in the psychopatic deviation scale which is extremely high apparently. So I am wondering how it compares to actual psychopaths Who May have taken the test. For me I guess it makes me impulsive, unable to learn from experience, "sexually inmoral" and other stuff.

2024.05.14 20:02 sybildb What kind of exercises are recommended for people that are severely underweight?

Hi all. I (22F) am 5’7 and weigh around 100-105lbs. I am severely underweight and working on gaining weight at the advisory of my doctor and a dietician. I eat a high protein keto diet to help manage my T1 diabetes, though this is temporary as I’ll be on a pump soon to help with carb consumption.
I have been feeling out of shape despite being bone thin. I was very sick prior to finding out I was diabetic and lost a lot of my strength, endurance, and flexibility.
My diabetes is well managed and I have a good A1C, btw.
But I want to begin exercise again. I hate feeling both too skinny and also very weak.
My doctor recommended I do “low impact” or “low intensity” exercises. And definitely no cardio. I have to conserve all the calories I take in.
Ideally, I’d like exercises I can do from home. I have some weights and resistance bands. It’d also be nice if there was something I could do to increase my appetite as it’s been challenging eating a caloric surplus.
Currently, I go on regular walks for exercise, but that’s about it.
Anyway, I understand the obvious answer would be lift weights, yoga, etc. but I’m looking for more specific recommendations.
If anyone has suggestions it’d be much appreciated :)

2024.05.14 20:01 Michtrk 1944-1952 in Middle East, North Africa and Indian subcontinent

Syria – After the fall of Germany, 9th January 1946 protests erupted in Syria calling for independence, reaching its peak 18th January. France answered by force, eventually killing over a thousand Syrians by January. Shukri al-Quwatli escaped French arrest and contacted Winston Churchill. As the Conference of Foreign Ministers was held in Paris, Syria became a point of discussion also, French military action was condemned by all and by diplomatic means France was forced to retreat from Syria and Lebanon and recognise their independence (15.2.1946). Britain used the crisis to strengthen its influence, however unlike OTL did to directly occupy Syria as events in Syria are at the same time as the Conference in Paris. The British promised the French they would withdraw as well. Syrian independence was officially declared on 14 June 1946.
In 1947 Syria held its first parliamentary election, and a year later Shukri al-Quwatli was re-elected president. Syria had a rocky relationship with neighbouring Hashemite monarchies. Nationalist Quwatli manoeuvred in more and more hostile relations between powers and its interests (US, UK, USSR). Syria opposed the partition of Palestine and co-founded “Arab Liberation Army''. Defeat in Palestine heavily damaged the popularity of Quwatli, he regained some of it by refusing singing of Armistice with Israel (unlike others) and voicing support to anti-American riots (Summer 1949 due to Taft’s recognition of Israel). 28 September 1949 Quwatli demoted army chief Husni al-Za'im and replaced him by Sami al-Hinnawi. Major is shift is that due to American non-intervention the US backed 1949 coup never occurs. Under international pressure an armistice was eventually signed between Syria and Israel in November 1949. No demilitarised zone in Golan Heights as OTL. Syria adopted a neutralist policy, seeking relations both with the British, USSR, India, USA and Yugoslavia, but was most seen as a pro-British state. Syria became close to Egypt after the Egyptian Revolution. In 1952 parliamentary elections brought victory for the oppositional People’s Party and the rise of Ba’ath and SSNP. April 1953 presidential election, as Syrian constitution limited president to two terms, Quwatli handpicked Sabri Al-Asali as his successor.
Egypt – 2-3 November 1945 anti-Jewish riots in Egypt, since it was still during the war, riots were violently put down by the British forces. Since 1946 large anti-British demonstrations and riots. During 1947 negotiations about British withdrawal were held, however collapsed after Winston Churchill’s opposition to withdraw troops as response massive violent anti-British riots erupted (June 1947), forcing Churchill to agree to withdrawal to Suez Canal but keeping there large force, Churchill attempted to sign treaty that would guarantee British presence in Suez, but Egyptians rejected it. By end of 1948, British presence was limited to the Suez area. May to 20 July 1949 (signing of armistice) war in Palestine. After the war anti-British sentiments grew. 3 January 1950 victory of conservative and nationalist Wafd party, Mostafa el-Nahas became the new prime minister. His government refused to push any important reforms and was also very corrupt, further strengthening resentment amongst Egyptian people. Unlike OTL CIA is not attempting to persuade Farouk into reforms (it was codenamed “Fat Fucker” LMAO) 17 November 1951 Nahas unilaterally abrogated the 1936 Anglo-Egyptian treaty, wave of nationalism, Britian refused to leave Suez, tensions escalated into Battle of Ismailia (25 February 1952) – a violent clash between Egyptian militias and British forces. 26 January 1952 news resulted in massive anti-British protests that set Cairo on fire and greatly damaged support of the king and government. Country fell into instability, the government was dismissed and several different ones followed, as in our reality.
The Free Officers Movement (formed already in the 1940s) successfully orchestrated the Egyptian Revolution (23 August 1952). Power was transferred to nine-member Revolution Command Council (RCC), king Farouk abdicated, went into exile and was replaced with regency. RCC launched large scale reforms: land, tax, reducing privileges of government officials. First post-revolutionary prime minister Aly Maher Pasha resigned due to disagreements with the military coming from his traditional political background. He was succeeded by Abd El-Razzak El-Sanhuri, legal scholar promoting transition to civilian rule (10 October). Political parties were purged, however due to Sanhuri’s influence not banned. During spring 1953, conflict between Sanhuri and Naguib escalated. Camps began to develop, one was represented by Naguib and his loyalists who aligned themselves with Muslim Brotherhood, and other headed by Nasser and Sanhuri, aligned with HADITU and Wafd.
Newly created Provisional National Assembly, approved a new secular constitution, Nasser was named president (18 July 1953) with support of Wafd and HADITU. In summer 1953 Muslim Brotherhood started large riots and demonstrations against the new constitution, they gained outside CIA support, as they were sceptical of Nasser’s alliance with HADITU. Power struggle between Naguib, who still had key positions in RCC continued.
Lebanon – 7 June 1946 withdrawal of French forces, independence declared already in 1943. Around 100,000 Palestinians came to Lebanon after the war. In 1951 prime minister Riad Al Solh survived assassination attempt and remained prime minister until 1952, when he was replaced by Chamoun with Saeb Salam. 18 September 1952 first president Bechara El Khoury forced to step down after anti-corruption protests, 23 September Camille Chamoun became president, under his leadership country experience growth and stability. Chamoun also secured the majority of power in his hands.
(Trans)Jordan– Achieved independence 25 November 1946, as in our reality a large number of Palestinian refugees and annexation of the West Bank. 20 July 1951 king Abdullah was assassinated by Palestinian radical. Prior to his assassination Britain unlike OTL supported Abdullah in promoting his other son Naif to become new heir (due to Britain being more anxious about losing influence, rather favouring openly pro-British monarch) Naif is unpopular amongst people due to being seen just as a British puppet. 1 January 1952 new constitution – Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Iraq – Britain wants to maintain military presence in Iraq and Nuri al-Said his power, since 1946 large left-wing protests and strikes, that resulted in massacre of workers. Government instituted severe repression, banning Communist party and arresting many communists, including leadership. 29 March 1947 Salih Jabr became prime minister, under his rule 15 January 1948 Anglo-Iraqi treaty was signed, making Iraq de-facto British protectorate, Iraqi oil controlled by Iraq Petroleum Company. To protest this treaty massive protests erupted – Al-Wathbah uprising – all Iraqi opposition joined – Communist, Independence parties, Liberal and National Democrats. Salih’s government fell, and the prime minister escaped to London, the new government under Nuri responded with martial law and massive crackdowns, numerous massacres. This timeline demonstrations got so intense that in February British troops entered Iraq to “pacify” them. Parties involved unlike OTL were formally banned after 1948 uprising and Nuri consolidated his power and firm support of Britain. In 1948 Constitutional Union Party was formed by Nuri and it became dominant ruling party. Unlike OTL Nuri remained in position of prime minister since 1948 to 1952. After Palestine war, Nuri expelled all Jews from Iraq (1950). Since 1951 terms of treaty were changed with the new Labour government and Iraq got 50% of its oil revenue.
23 September - 23 December 1952 another major protests inspired by Egyptian revolution and Iranian protests erupted – Iraqi Intifada. Nuri was dismissed by regent Abd al-Ilah and replaced by reformist general Taha al-Hashimi (30 September), who negotiated with protestors. However, under British pressure Taha was ousted and replaced by general Nureddin Mahmud (3 December), who instead rejected negotiated terms, started harsh repressions and crushed the uprising. Power was transferred into civilian leadership after the 29 March 1953 unfree election, independent Mustafa Mahmud al-Umari became the new prime minister, while Nuri still controlled the country from the shadows. In May 1953 Faisal II assumed power as king. Since 1952 the idea of unification of Jordan with Iraq was often discussed.
Saudi Arabia – Nothing to change, post-war rise due to finding of oil revenues, US keeps close relations even under Taft. 9 November 1953 reign of king Saud began.
Oman&Muscat – Nothing significant in this period.
Kingdom of Yemen –failed al-Waziri coup attempt, Iman Yahia was killed (17 February 1948), however Ahmad bin Yahya ascended to the throne instead. Autocratic rule. He was opposed to the British.
British Arab Colonies – 1952 Trucial States Council formed, British supervised body.
Iran
Long Iranian Crisis
Occupied by Allied powers in 1943. Western powers are less keen to withdraw from Iran, due to the stronger Soviet Union (and also due to Churchill). According to treaty all troops shall withdraw after 6 months after the war’s end (10 November 1946). This was approved by the Hamburg conference in May 1946. By November thanks to rising suspicions nobody starts doing that (Soviets would stay anyway as they did in our reality, major change is that West stays too). The Iranian Crisis became a key event showing those deep tensions in the early cold war and it was a great mistake to overlook it. Truman doctrine is also connected to Iran.
United Nations Resolutions pushed by Iran tried to deal with the situation (Autumn 1946), however without success. Another point that almost solved this crisis was Ahmad Qavam’s proposal to give Soviet Union oil rights in Northern Iran and official Iranian proclamation wishing withdrawal of all powers, this was approved by Stalin, but rejected by Pahlavi and the West (November 1946), Qavam was dismissed in January 1948 after election, replaced by Ebrahim Hakimi. With that crisis escalated to the creation of the Azerbaijan People's Government (20 February 1947) and Republic of Mahabad (18 March 1947).
Through 1947 Kurdish and Azerbaijan states in Northern Iran started to emancipate and establish popular support. Situation seemed to develop along the lines of Austria, talks stalled after the US occupation of Greenland. With hostile relations between powers in 1948, Iran continued to be a hotspot of tensions. The Pahlavi regime and separatists both obtained military aid.
In March 1949 US troops withdrew from Iran, during the Geneva Conference (September 1949 to May 1950), states agreed to finally withdraw all troops (Soviets agreed presumably to secure their interests in Germany during negotiations), so Soviets and British finally left in March-June 1950. In 1949 also an unsuccessful assassination attempt on Shah took place (4 February 1949), it was blamed on communists and Tudeh Party was banned and communists persecuted.
Beginning of the North Iran War and British-Iranian Treaty
As Soviets finally withdrew, Shah and prime minister Haj Ali Razmara started offensive operations towards the North (31 August 1950), however separatist states were better equipped, because they received Soviet aid in previous years and thus managed to repeal the first offensive. While fighting against what was presented as continuous Soviet occupation, utilizing nationalist wave as redirection of attention of Iranians from it, Razmara signed the AIOC-Iran agreement, which institutionalised British control over Iranian oil (7 March 1951). However, it still created massive resentment, riots and protests that led to violence. During spring 1951 massive opposition against Razmara, who sought to become a strongman leader, emerged, encompassing everyone from Islamists to liberals and communists. The National Front led by Mohammad Mosaddegh became the main opposition platform.
In April Majlis rejected Razmara’s decree granting him de-facto limited dictatorial powers, which he sought to obtain to “restore order”, so it was dissolved by Shah in response (20 April) and Razmara secured power with declaration of martial law, it was met with Ayatollah Kashani calling for holy war against Razmara and the British, leading to another massive wave of upheaval in April-May 1951, that was brutally repressed with many deaths. 9 June 1951 Razmara was assassinated and killed by radical Islamist member of Fadaiyan e-Islam, Hossein Ala was installed by Shah. Pahlavi used this crisis to boost his own power. National Front was banned in July. These events left great resentments in Iranian society against ruling regime. Tudeh started armed insurgency, it was however between 1952-1953 completely crushed. Mosaddegh escaped to France. In late 1952 to early 1953 an election was held to elect new Majlis, it was rigged and all elected were “independents”.
Through 1951 the front moved in favour of Iran, however separatists with Soviet support continued to hold on. After the Iranian-British Treaty, Stalin began to see Iranian re-conquest of the North as danger for the USSR and provided significant aid, leading to stalemate in 1952.
Afghanistan – Nothing significant in this period, tribal revolts in the 1940s.
Libya – Occupied by the UK and France. 1949 UN resolution about its independence, it was achieved 24 December 1951, it became a constitutional monarchy under king Idris I.
Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria – After the Paris Conference of 1952, voices calling for independence are stronger. Tunisian Habib Bourguiba and Farhat Hached entered negotiations with the Thorez government in June 1952, after which France agreed to immediate widespread autonomy Tunisian and pledging to give it full independence before 1954. The same agreement was reached with Moroccan sultan Mohammed V. More difficult situation was in Algeria. Political party calling for independence National Liberation Front was formed 23 April 1952 led by Ferhat Abbas. Negotiations about Algerian status started, in the next month. This topic was too sensitive in France, so agreement was limited to giving Algeria autonomy as part of France for now with further negotiations about independence being open. Algerians were unhappy, as neighbours got a much better deal. Algeria was still de-facto part of metropolitan France, more power was given to the Algerian Assembly, to which a free election was promised to be held in spring 1953.
Cyprus – After the fall of the mainland, the Kingdom of Greece advocated for union. In 1952 an unofficial referendum about unification with Greece, led by Orthodox Church was held, over 80% voted for union. Unlike OTL Britain was supportive of the idea of union (to strengthen the Greek state), but as it was a viable military base, they did not want to retreat.
British India
On 10-20 November 1945 British and Indian leaders met during Simla Conference; these talks stalled due to question of Muslims. Wavell Plan proposed to Churchill by viceroy Wavell, promoted Indianisation and postwar independence, however, was rejected by Churchill (December 1945). During 1946 elections to central administration were held. After Churchill’s victory, the British prime minister (May 1946) replaced Wavell with Louis Mountbatten (5 August 1946). Summer of 1946 was marked by massive protests for independence, mutinies and violence. In Autumn 1946 Cabinet Mission was sent to discuss granting more autonomy and dominion status. Eventually they planned to create one federal state, however it was strongly opposed by the Indian Muslim League. Hindu-Muslim tensions were escalating with 16 January 1947 “Direct Action Day'' massive Muslim riots and violence. In early 1947 provincial elections were held that resulted in victory of INC or IML according to ethnic and religious lines. Results of the provincial elections clearly show opposition towards British rule.
Inspired by events in Burma and Vietnam, Communist Party of India initiated nationwide anti-British “Indian People’s Liberation Uprising” (May 1947 to 1951), its estimated over 150,000 peasants joining it. Its strength shocked Britain, attempting to crush it; the British relied on local militants and Indian forces. In May 1947 Churchill officially announced that British Raj would be transformed into two dominions. Britain established the Radcliffe Commission that established the borders of two dominions (April to August); the demarcation line was published 18 August 1947. Population transfer in Punjab was organised by Britain from August, however mass migration (that started even before partition itself happened) in other provinces shocked British officials, however Britain quickly took over migration and regulated it (thus it is lesser humanitarian catastrophe, but still it is a huge humanitarian catastrophe, estimated from 100 000 deaths to half million), migration lasted from August 1947 to 1950.
1 January 1948 – two British dominions – India and Pakistan came to existence. British forces remained present here, and the British monarch remained its head of state. British officials spoke about “autonomy within the Empire'' while Indians spoke about Independence. The Kashmir deal proposed by India is also pushed by the UK and is successful (in real life Pakistan rejected it) – All of Kashmir is Pakistani, while Pakistan stops claiming Hyderabad, this nullifies the existence of Sino-Indian War.
Dominion of India – Mountbatten remained a powerful governor-general, and the first Indian prime minister became Jawaharlal Nehru. Radical Hindu nationalist assassinated Gandhi as in our reality (30 January 1948) during the first month of creation of divided dominions. 1948-1949 integration of princely states, in some cases with help of communist rebels. Communist rebellion continues as Dominion of India is considered by them just another British colonial state. Nehru successfully passed the Constitution of India (26 January 1951) and expelled British troops. In April 1951 an agreement was reached with communists to end (already weak) uprising and to participate in political life in democratic independent India. 25 June– 21 October 1952 democratic general election was held, victory of INC, compared to our reality CPN get more support. Neutral foreign policy.
Dominion of Pakistan – First Pakistani prime minister Muhammad Ali Jinnah (position of governor-general, that was much more powerful compared to Canada for example, remained in British hands, was held by Cyril Radcliffe) died 11 September 1948, he was succeeded by Liaquat Ali Khan. Pakistan became pro-British oriented, but also established relations with socialist states. Ali Khan wanted Pakistan to become a parliamentary democracy. Muslim League faced major leftist opposition, in March 1951 socialist attempted coup (Rawalpindi conspiracy), which was exposed and failed. He was assassinated 16 October 1951. The British governor general named Malik Ghulam Muhammad as new prime minister. In August 1951 first elections in Pakistan were held, communists and socialists were not allowed to participate, victory of the United Front (East Bengal). Urdu was the only official language, while all eastern part spoke Bengal. In March 1952 Bengali protesters were massacred by police and military. From February to March 1953 large (in reality anti-Ahmadis, this timeline against British rule) riots in Lahore, ended in bloody military crackdown. In the aftermath of riots Cyril Radcliffe was recalled by Attlee and replaced by Frank Messervy.
Burma – After the surrender of the Japanese in April 1946, military rule was reinstated in Burma. On 27 January 1947 British governor Reginald Dorman-Smith ordered the arrest of Aung San, this led into a massive rebellion of the AFPFL (Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League) and its armed wing People's Volunteer Organization with membership over 100,000 which started the Burmese Emergency. Moderates advocated for the governor to release Aung San and start negotiations, however this was shut down by Churchill, who preferred to use force. British forces failed to deal with the uprising and in 1947 large parts of Burma were controlled by AFPFL. During this uprising period and the arrest of Aung San, communist gained substantial influence. Churchill responded with increasing military presence, however after the eruption of another major anti-colonial rebellion in Malaya, British forces were with priority sent there. In 1950 AFPFL defeated colonial forces in several major engagements. Attlee decided to abandon Burma in favour of Malaya, Aung San was released (7 April 1951) and entered negotiations with Attlee, together with other leaders of the war of independence (June-September) and later negotiations between AFPFL and minorities (12 October, Panglong Agreement). Ceasefire and election on 9 March 1952, that resulted in the victory of AFPFL, Aung San became prime minister and officially declared independence of the Union of Burma (10 March 1952).
Aung San became the first prime minister, while Kyaw Nyein the first president. CPB left AFPFL and became the main opposition (Unlike OTL there is no communist insurgency against Burmese government or split in the communist party). Burma focused on social reforms, welfare state and industrialisation. Burma adopted a neutral foreign policy, however inclining more towards socialist bloc, closer relations with Yugoslavia and surprisingly Israel. Burma still has to deal with KMT remnants in the North and Karen insurgency.

KH GH tests
Are the KH GH test strips accurate? I know the rule for testing water quality is that test strips suck and liquid tests are more accurate. Struggling to find the liquid test kit to purchase but I see the strips everywhere. Thanks for the answers! (Snail pic for tax)

2024.05.14 19:59 Puginator Google rolls out its most powerful AI models as competition from OpenAI heats up

Google is using its annual developer conference to showcase what the company is calling its lightest and most efficient artificial intelligence models.
At Google I/O on Tuesday, the company announced Gemini 1.5 Flash, the newest addition to the Gemini model series.
“We heard from developers that they wanted something faster and even more cost effective,” said Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, in a press briefing.
The unveiling comes as tech companies increasingly refocus their product development and rollouts around generative AI, which is of particular importance to Google because the new tools give consumers more advanced and creative ways to access online information compared to traditional web search.
OpenAI on Monday launched a new AI model and desktop version of ChatGPT, along with a new user interface. The new model, GPT-4o, is twice as fast as GPT-4 Turbo and half the cost, the company said.
Google also announced an improved Gemini 1.5 Pro model, which has the ability to make sense of multiple large documents — 1,500-pages total — or summarize 100 emails, according to a vice president working on Gemini.
Gemini 1.5 Pro will soon be able to handle an hour of video content, or codebases with more than 30,000 lines, Hsiao said.
“You can quickly get answers and insights about dense documents, like figuring out the details of the pet policy in your rental agreement or comparing key arguments of multiple long research papers,” Hsiao said.
OpenAI’s latest upgrade, announced this week, brings with it improved quality and speed of ChatGPT for 50 different languages. It will also be available via OpenAI’s application programming interface (API), allowing developers to begin building applications using the new model immediately, executives said.
With 35 languages, Google says Gemini 1.5 Pro has a 2 million token window, which measures context and indicates how much information the model is able to process at once. The new model has improved local reasoning, planning and image understanding, company executives said.
“It offers the longest context window of any foundational model yet,” Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said in the press briefing. At the event, he gave an example of a parent asking Gemini to summarize all recent emails from their child’s school.
Gemini 1.5 Pro will initially be available for testing in Workspace Labs. Gemini 1.5 Flash will be available for testing and in Vertex AI, which is Google’s machine learning platform that lets developers train and deploy AI applications.
