2024.05.14 01:25 GIGACAT216 Tokyo ghoul needs a remake

Tokyo ghoul was one of the first animes i ever watched(approximately 3 years ago). When i first watched it i was dumbfounded of how good it was. And yep that was wrong. Years passed and i watched over 50 anime and consumed a lot of manga. And I put Tokyo ghoul in my top 5 media. İt's manga was amazing and i think it needs a remake anime. And here's the question. İf it needs a remake which studio should do it? I thinked of the studio that made re zero. Because when i watched re zero and it immediately made me think of Tokyo ghoul. Re zero is a masterpiece, it has gore, love, blood, amazing fights etc. İt's just like of a seinen and just like Tokyo ghoul. and i think the studio which made the rezero (i think it was white fox studio) is the only studio that can bring Tokyo ghoul manga to anime just right or even BETTER.

2024.05.14 00:37 chuckecheese27 AITAH for exposing my former friend's abusive ex bf at work? (sorry for the long read!)

When I (23F) first started working at my job, I met my former friend (21F)(let's call her K). K and I knew each other because her training partner was in my orientation class. When we first met, she briefly complained that her ex bf (23M)(let's call him D) had followed her to our work and he got a job at our work as well.
K and I worked in the same department, different areas. When K and I got close, I told her that I got promoted and was working in another area. K told me that D was also working in the same area and to not talk about her at work. I didn't pry into what had happened between the two of them because how people mourn their broken relationships is different. I just moved along my business and just do my job per usual. I didn't officially meet him until a couple weeks later, and the first couple of instances, I treated him as I would treat any coworker and just did my job, never asked to hang out outside of work, just treated my coworkers with respect until I have a reason not to.
Then, out of nowhere, every room I had walked into and he saw me, D gave me a look of disgust with me, a snobby look, as if I was below him. D had gone so far as to exclude me from group conversations with coworkers and I didn't really know why because I never brought up K with him or with anyone. It wasn't until I told her what had happened and she was like "Yeah I told him that we knew each other because we're still talking as friends." In my mind I was like "?????" I thought it was uncalled for and unnecessary. I informed K that D intentionally excludes me out of conversations with coworkers that I was also friendly with and K told me, "If he likes you, he likes you, if he doesn't, he doesn't", but insinuating that I did something wrong, so I just decided to keep my distance from K for awhile.
I didn't like D at all at this point, not because of his association with K, but because he was the worst person to work with! He was always bitching and complaining about moving carts and complaining in front of customers about how he's tired and how he hates working, etc etc. There was a time where he was the only guy not doing anything and standing around and I politely asked him to move a cart and he threw a fit in front of customers and demanded another girl nearby to do it for him. He wasn't on any work restrictions, nothing, just didn't want to do his job. I understand not liking your job, but it's never an excuse to under perform at your job. And because of him, many others decided to throw a fit about working to the point where, I had to attend meetings about it. The times I treated him nicely, he gave me a dirty look. All the times to where I just ignored him and did my job, he also gave me a dirty look. It got so bad that management decided to announce that anyone refusing to do their job would be reprimanded, rightfully so. I was so mad about it to the point where I requested that I be demoted back to my original workplace (which I love so much) and to just call me in when necessary.
Some time passes by and K and I become really close, I don't pry into her life because tbh, I didn't have a lot of trust for her when it comes to talking about work, so I just kept it at what was going on at where I first got hired at work. K told me around August that her and D were no longer on speaking terms and that she had gone no contact because she claimed that he was abusive and narcissistic. We became very close to where we were constantly talking to each other everyday.
K was living good after cutting out D in her life. She started becoming more social and more lively, she went on vacation, she was just glowing in a way that you knew she was happy. On the other hand, based on my conversations with her, I could tell that she was struggling to come to terms with being abused by this guy. Ex: her supervisor came into my office and we were talking about how amazing K was and I told her that story, K became scared that I even had a conversation with her supervisor, but until I told her that we were talking about how amazing she was, K started to cry tears of joy.
And then things took a turn for the worse. A couple of weeks ago, K told me that she just wants to just isolate herself and that she felt lost in life. I told her that I'd be praying for her. And then, I had asked her if she wanted to come to the movies with me and a couple of my friends. K asked me who was going and I told her my friend (lets call her S) S (20F) was going to go. S and I have worked with D and S told me that she's also had issues with D, but didn't go into detail as to what happened. K immediately informed me that she and D had recently started talking again and that if she heard me or S talk about D in a negative manner, then she would tell him. I told her that my issues with D are nothing personal, my issue was that he wasn't a good employee and basically called him an inconsiderate asshat. I told her that he had the right to not like his workplace, but it gave him no right to under perform his job. K told me that she'd pass this message along and I firmly told her no because she didn't know what the new updates were and new disciplinary actions were because she didn't receive proper training at my work area and therefore not eligible.
I reminded her that it wasn't a good idea to be speaking to D again, considering that she was happy post life after D and based on what she has told me, that it was abusive. I told K that she needed to reconsider her stance on where she stood with D.
A week passes and S and our friend E (21M) decided to take an impromptu visit to our workplace to have some fun. I texted K if she was working and K told me she was. I told K that we'd be visiting mine and S's area first before visiting K and she seemed excited. While we were in line talking, S had spotted from the corner of her eye that D was working and so S and I hid behind our friend E and had E briefly talk to D in order to get serviced (basically just telling D that we were a party of 3). Once the coast was clear, S confides in me and E about her history with D. Her history with D started when D asked her to hang out a total of two times throughout the course of their friendship, but said that D had a crush on her, writing her paragraphs, but she wasn't into D because he wasn't her type, and when she told him honestly and politely, the friendship had soured, and D had resorted to degrading her.
We came to K's work area and I had introduced S and E to K. The next morning, K texted me saying how it was so nice to see my face because it was a long night and that it was so nice to meet S and E. I told K that E's birthday was coming up and so was mine and that we were talking about taking a trip to Universal Studios Hollywood. K told me that she was a huge Universal Studios enthusiast and to give her a date to go and she'll request the day off.
I made a group chat with all of us in it, to plan out our trip to Universal. S and E hit it off with K. And then a couple of days ago, when I came home from work, I noticed that K had unadded me as a friend on Snapchat. I texted her, asking if she was okay. I got a response the next morning of K texting me, "Please don't talk to me. You've really caused issues and you'll find out later." I was upset and taken aback. This is not the K that I knew. One of the rare times K and I had a disagreement, we would always talk it out like adults and then apologize to each other. K didn't explain to me as to what I did wrong. I couldn't think of what could I have done wrong. The only recent disagreement that I had with her was her speaking to D again.
After work that day, S texted me to ask if I was okay. I told her no because K abruptly ended our friendship with no explanation whatsoever. S called me because she too wanted to know the reason why. S and I came to the conclusion that because K and D were still talking to each other and that because S and D had a history, he found out that K was going to Universal with us, and in order to keep her under his control, he fed her lies about S and I, enough for her to stop talking to me. S told me that she was upset that his actions with her resulted in the demise of our friendship and I told S that it wasn't her fault that, D was scared of being exposed, so he played the victim card.
S told me she'd pull up the receipts of their conversations. The receipts she pulled up was abhorrent. It was misogynistic, sexist, manipulative, and arrogant in the worst way possible and he used religion against S as well as used many of his victim cards (race card, religion card, etc). S was also explaining to E and I many different instances of what had happened and that she felt bad for K because if he spoke this way to a friend, imagine how he spoke to K. I immediately felt so much empathy for both S and K because they had been both dragged through the mud, with D villainizing S for having a preference for another type of guy, and D villainizing K to others. So the next day, at work, with S's permission, I told majority of my colleagues that D was an inconsiderate asshat, misogynistic, and an abusive person towards people, and outright a narcissistic person while showing everyone the screenshots of his conversations with S. AITAH for exposing D to colleagues for his behavior? (sorry for the long read)

2024.05.14 00:37 SinesPi About Penaconys history (spoilers)

Throughout most of Penacony, I thought it was first established ages ago. But then I hear about Hananu and Mikhail, and it sounds like it's only been about two lifetimes at most. Then I hear that Clockie Studios is 500 years old. But it sounds like Mikhail only recently died, and he's not a long-life species. I doubt he stayed alive as a meme since that was what Misha was for.
The time frame seems to be all over the place. From Hanunus Prison Revolt to the current day, how much time has passed?

2024.05.14 00:13 Darth_Sandivi Weird experience moving to real bass drum. Help!

Hi all!
I live in a tiny studio and the only space I have for drums allows me only to have 4 practice pads on stands and a bass drum practice pad with a double pedal.
The thing is I have been practicing with that for 3 months now (I was already a bit of an intermediate drummer before that) and I have been very stuck with my double bass. I don't seem to have a lot of control and don't seem to be able to pass 130bpm, it's uncontrollable and very sloppy.
However, yesterday I went to a rehearsal room with a friend and brought with me my double pedal (the room's kit was not very good). To my astonishment, my double bass was extremely good and fluid. Everything felt looser and I could do 140bpm with absolutely no effort, staying for long periods of time in the 120 zone with barely any hiccups.
Back to my practice bass drum and same problem again. What is happening? What could be the cause of such difference? At home I'm using a desk chair as a stool, but the height is practically the same (maybe a bit lower?), the pedal is the same. The only difference is the surface I hit, does it make that much of a difference? If so, what do you recommend? Switching bass drum pads to something more realistic? (I'm open to product recommendations) Or perhaps it's better to use this pad although it makes the practice harder so then when it comes the real thing everything translates just better and smoother? I'm very curious about all this, would love to double kick a bit better.
By the way, the pad I'm using is this one, seems to have a hard rubber (also maybe the pad inclination was a factor): https://www.thomann.de/nl/millenium_bdp_s_bass_drum_practice_pad.htm?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw9IayBhBJEiwAVuc3frxK2ierGksuElo5HJpoDEi1tNy03QDnLq_0IOvEKfwV5BkHLuvnkxoCwfcQAvD_BwE

The Great Wall and Wall Street: Become a Better Trader by Understanding the Perils of 🇨🇳 Chinese Companies on 🇺🇸 U.S. Exchanges
⚠️ Attention all traders and holders of Chinese stocks: You should read this if you don’t know what a VIE is. Sure, most of you will be repelled by the great wall of text here (so many words!), but you might want to keep this post nearby.
Hello. You are aware that Wall Street’s bustling bazaar hosts a veritable Forbidden City of Chinese companies draped in ticker tape rather than silk. Today, I will provide background and data on all allowed Chinese companies listed on three of the largest U.S. stock exchanges: New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Nasdaq, and NYSE American.
I should note that a bustling troupe of 26 national securities exchanges are registered with the SEC in the United States. Most are owned by the Nasdaq, NYSE, or the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE).
Nonetheless, based on data from the World Federation of Exchanges as of August 2023, the NYSE and Nasdaq were the top two exchanges behemoths of the global financial stage, accounting for 42.4% of the total $110.2 trillion in valuation traded across 80 major global exchanges.
🖼️ I had a photo of Wall Street to add here, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
2022 vs. 2023
According to the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, as of January 8, 2024, there were 265 Chinese companies listed on the three U.S. exchanges, with a total market capitalization of $848 billion. That valuation is down from a year prior—January 9, 2023—when a slightly lower 252 Chinese companies were tracked, but they represented a total market capitalization of $1.03 trillion.
Since January 2023, 24 Chinese companies have entered the spotlight of the three U.S. exchanges, raising $656 million in combined initial public offerings (IPOs). On the other hand, eleven Chinese companies have folded their tents and delisted.
China Securities Regulatory Commission
The American stock exchanges witnessed a springtime bloom of Chinese IPOs in the first quarter of 2023. However, this listing activity came to an abrupt halt as the clock struck March 31, 2023.
Why? The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) implemented a revised approval process for companies going public overseas.
I won’t get into the details, but China has rules to cap foreign investment and ownership in sectors deemed strategic, such as technology. In the past, those regulations have driven several Chinese firms to the legal gymnastics of a Variable Interest Entity (VIE) structure—a clever contrivance that allowed them to leapfrog domestic constraints.
However, under the revised review mechanism, every company, regardless of its corporate ownership structure, must now bow before the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) to register its intent to list overseas.
🖼️ I had a photo of the CSRC building to add here, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
The gatekeeper
Therefore, although the CSRC touted this regulation as a necessary measure for enforcing regulatory compliance and preventing fraud (which is true), it also helps regulators act as gatekeepers poised to block any proposed listing they deem poses a risk to their national security or jeopardizes China's national interests.
This process is wide-ranging. For instance, it includes an evaluation of the company’s safeguards against disclosing what the Chinese Communist Party considers potential state secrets. But we’re not talking about top-secret black-ops projects meant to be hidden from international oversight committees. No… any company that collects personal information on more than one million users requires stern data security review mechanisms for its cross-border data flows.
For perspective, TikTok has over 150 million users in the U.S. alone and is not subject to the same scrutiny from the Western nations.
Currently, the CSRC approval process is reportedly taking upward of six months.
Audit inspections and investigations in China
You’re probably unaware of the HFCAA, so let’s start there.
The Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act of 2020 (HFCAA) is a law that requires companies publicly listed on stock exchanges in the U.S. to disclose to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) information on foreign jurisdictions that prevent the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) from conducting inspections.
That law laid down a stern ultimatum: If Chinese authorities kept obstructing the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) from inspecting audit firms in China or Hong Kong for three consecutive years, the companies audited by these entities would face a ban from the bustling arenas of the U.S. exchanges.
Basically, either China allowed the PCAOB to inspect the audit firms, or the companies had to change to another auditing firm within three years.
Then, as 2022 waned to its final days (literally, on December 29), President Joe Biden signed a Consolidated Appropriations Act, which contained a provision that will tighten the noose, shortening future timelines from three consecutive years to only two.
Once they looked under the rock
Finally allowed to conduct full investigations of audit firms in mainland China and Hong Kong after over a decade of obstruction, the PCAOB announced the findings of its first round of inspections in May 2023, identifying deficiencies in seven of eight audits conducted by the auditing firms KPMG Huazhen and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Hong Kong. Audits of Chinese Companies Are Highly Deficient, U.S. Regulator Says
On November 30, 2023, the PCAOB announced fines against three audit firms in China, totaling $7.9 million for misconduct. For perspective, that number included the second and third-largest fines ever doled out by the PCAOB.
Why were the fines so bad?
Those sneaky Chinese accountants
Imagine a gaggle of accountants in the far reaches of PwC China and Hong Kong applying for a U.S. auditing curriculum. But alas, these foreign accountants find the U.S. auditing training tests a trifle tedious, so someone came up with the answers and decided to pass them around like a secret note in a schoolroom.
From 2018 to 2020, over 1,000 of these busy bees completed their U.S. auditing online exams by copying the answers from two unauthorized apps with a fervor that would make a gossip columnist blush.
When confronted with the evidence, PwC China and PwC Hong Kong response: 🤷‍♂️
And let me remind you, this happened late last year. Both firms are expected to provide reasonable assurance that their personnel will act with integrity in connection with internal training and to report their compliance to the PCAOB within 150 days—April 2024.
🖼️ I was planning on using an AI-generated image of Chinese accountants cheating, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
State-owned enterprises
According to the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, this graph represents the total market capitalization of Chinese companies listed in the three U.S. exchanges.
Market Capitalization of Listed Chinese Companies
The number of listed companies has stayed at around 260. However, all Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have delisted themselves from U.S. exchanges, most of them soon after the PCAOB announced it had secured complete access to Chinese auditors’ records.
Variable Interest Entities (VIEs)
Most traders—and that means you—are unaware that 166 Chinese companies currently listed on the three major U.S. exchanges use a VIE structure.
As of January 8, 2024, these companies have a market capitalization of $772 billion. For perspective, that represents 91% of the total market capitalization of all the Chinese firms listed on the three major U.S. exchanges.
What the hell is a VIE?
It is a complex corporate structure that grants shareholders contractual claims to control via an offshore shell company without transferring actual ownership in the company.
A Variable Interest Entity (VIE) is a bit like a riverboat casino’s cleverest trick, allowing a company to sell its chips on a foreign table without ever letting the players hold the cards directly.
A VIE is a structure used primarily by companies that wish to partake in the financial streams of another country (the U.S. exchanges) without breaking local laws (Chinese laws) that prevent full ownership.
Remember, Chinese companies structured themselves as VIEs to circumvent China’s restrictions—not U.S. restrictions—on foreign ownership in industries the CCP deems sensitive.
Therefore, when you hold stock in one of these Chinese companies, you’re not officially holding any actual ownership in the company. Because if you did, then that company could be breaking Chinese restrictive caps on foreign investment and ownership.
That’s why they set up a façade, or a legal entity, that controls the business on paper, but the true power and profits are funneled back to the company pulling the strings.
Granted, it’s not as shaky as asking a random stranger to hold your shares, but it is crafty, and you should be aware of the risks.
Wait. What are the risks?
You need to understand that there’s a shadow of potential risk looming. Potential. Now, don't mistake me for the town crier of doom; I'm not proclaiming that the sky is falling on these shares. Nor am I declaring that disaster is certain for Chinese stocks.
What I am pointing out, however, is the presence of a risk—a subtle beast that might just catch you off guard if you remain unaware.
And let’s face it: Most of you are completely oblivious to these issues.
There are two sides here: 🇺🇸 & 🇨🇳
🇺🇸
Since July 2021, the SEC has imposed additional disclosure requirements for Chinese companies using a VIE to sell shares in the U.S. These requirements include greater transparency about the relationship between the VIE and its Chinese operating companies.
In summary, the SEC aims to push VIEs toward the company behind them to offer more clarity on U.S. investor ownership in the Chinese operating company.
🇨🇳
On the other side, Chinese companies that list overseas using a VIE were not required to register their listings with the CSRC, as the VIE is not considered a Chinese company under China’s law. This is the reason VIEs were used in the first place.
However, as I mentioned earlier, after March 31, 2023, the CSRC established requirements for all new Chinese companies to register and receive permission before going public overseas—even those planning to use VIE structures. That’s why there was a boom of Chinese IPOs before that deadline.
Granted, on September 14, 2023, a Chinese auto insurance platform became the first company that received the elusive blessing of the CSRC to list, and it did so using a VIE arrangement, breaking the long, dry spell that had plagued Chinese IPOs when she listed on the Nasdaq four days later.
However, even though VIEs received some sort of recognition from the CSRC, the VIE corporate structures still hold dubious legal status under China’s laws. Remember, VIEs purpose is to avoid being considered a Chinese company under China’s laws.
So… do you see the potential risk here?
Umm… No, I don’t get it.
Think about it. Either country could potentially increase regulations for VIEs, but if the SEC forces them to be more transparent, the VIE would not be able to circumvent China’s restrictions. That’s one risk.
Also, at some point, China’s CSRC might question whether it’s appropriate to recognize a corporate structure that was created to circumvent its laws.
Which leads me to this: What’s keeping the CCP from deciding to start reigning in those VIEs?
The answer is simple: They’re not in a hurry to do so because if misfortune should befall, it’ll be the foreign investors who’ll see their assets deflated like a punctured balloon.
🖼️ I would've added a nice image or two by now, to balance all the text and make this more appealing, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
If a VIE-listed company goes private at a lower valuation, businesses fail, or there’s a valuation discrepancy, the enforceability of a VIE’s contractual arrangements is unproven in Chinese courts. With VIE-listed companies, foreign investors’ recourse in the Chinese legal system is as elusive as a catfish’s whisper.
Yeah, but that’s unlikely…
Sure. Of course, I’m not saying every Chinese stock will have these issues. But it can happen. And it has happened.
The unlucky case of Luckin Coffee
Due to the lack of compliance with international audit inspections, Chinese corporate financial statements’ reliability for valuation and investment is not assured.
Such is the case of Luckin Coffee. In a bold bid to capture Wall Street’s hearts and wallets, Luckin Coffee showed up dressed in finery, flaunting alluring figures of revenue, operations, and bustling customer traffic.
At her grand debut, the stock sashayed onto the Nasdaq at $17, swirling up a storm of interested buyers to the tune of $561 million in capital.
For a fleeting moment, Luckin shimmered like a star over the financial firmament, boasting a market capitalization that soared to a heady $12 billion, with shares peaking just over $50.
Ah, but as the adage goes, ‘Truth will out.’ And out it came—the revelation of those embroidered numbers caused the company's stock to plummet like a stone tossed from a bridge, leaving a wake of investor losses and culminating in a disgraceful delisting from Nasdaq 13 months after her debut. Luckin Coffee Drops Nasdaq Appeal; Shares to Be Delisted
🖼️ I would've added an AI-generated image of a cup of Luckin Coffee jumping from a bridge, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
Well… but that won’t happen to me…
Uh-huh. On April 2, 2020, after announcing that employees—including its chief operating officer—falsified 2.2 billion yuan (about $310 million) in sales throughout 2019, Luckin's shares nosedived -80%.
This is from one of you unluckin bastards: I've lost 240k on Luckin Coffee, all my life savings. Now I'm broke af.
I’m sure many of you might reckon yourselves immune to a similar debacle since you think you’re smart enough to use stops to escape any runaway losses. It's time to wake up and smell the Luckin coffee. Chinese news catalysts often strike like lightning at night, and the stops you set under the sun cannot shield you from storms that explode in the moonlight. Dumbass.
Chinese regulators can be mercurial
Even though the PCAOB is currently able to perform its oversight responsibilities, concerns remain around the possibility that Chinese regulators might backtrack, potentially clamping down once again on the PCAOB's ability to access audit firms and personnel across mainland China and Hong Kong.
If that happens, the PCAOB can quickly declare a negative determination. HOWEVER, this action would only start the countdown under the HFCAA, giving U.S.-listed Chinese companies a window of TWO years to secure services from an auditor in a compliant jurisdiction or face a trading ban. That’s it.
Of course, within that time, Chinese regulators could agree once again to allow access to the PCAOB, thus resetting the two-year countdown without significant consequences.
What lurks in the shadows
Although the risk of PCAOB non-compliance looms over these financial engagements, it is the ghost of potentially misconstrued—or, let's say, creatively presented—earnings reports coming to light that should scare you most. Or, on the flip side, present the biggest opportunity.
I believe it is possible that there are several ghosts out there—ghastly financial figures dressed up a tad too finely—lingering in the shadows, unchecked and unchallenged. If they’re found and unveiled under the harsh spotlight of scrutiny, the fallout would be immediate and severe, leaving investors scrambling.
And if that happens, it’s not about diamond-holding through the plunge since the company might opt (or be forced) to delist from the U.S. exchanges.
🖼️ I would've added an AI-generated image of an attractive young Chinese ghost woman, implying both the allure of Chinese stocks, but also the risk of getting closer. However, I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
You need to understand a crucial concept. Many traders believe that if a company messes up, plunges, and gets delisted, it means the company is basically over—dead. But that’s not the case here. A delisting does not equal death.
I mean, Luckin Coffee is still out there, alive and kicking.
16,218 stores and counting, covering 240+ cities across China.
You would think that a company like that would not be able to cheat on its balance sheet. Yeah, just like you would think PwC China would notice 1,000 accountants cheated their way through the U.S. auditing curriculum.
🖼️ I would've added an AI-generated image of a Chinese accountant dabbing like a boss for getting his cheated accounting diploma, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
So… is it too far-fetched to believe more ghosts might come to light, now that the PCAOB can supervise the numbers?
I mentioned a flip side since you could specialize in tracking everything the PCAOB does. If you can get a whiff about increased auditing on a certain company, you might decide to play a short position in anticipation of a potential ghost coming to light. Be warned, though, that it’s not as if they tweet out which companies they’re auditing.
If I were to do it, I would research and join whatever digital saloon young Chinese ledger-keepers convene in. Perhaps I’d stumble upon a post by SumYungGuy or another pleading for advice on how to parley with the PCAOB Laowai making a fuss over his figures. The poor lad's in a pickle, you see, since he cheated the exam and doesn’t know squat.
Methodology
For the purposes of this table, a company is considered Chinese if:
  1. It has been identified as being from the PRC (the People's Republic of China) by the relevant stock exchange;
  2. It lists a PRC address as its principal executive office in filings with the SEC; or
  3. It has a majority of operations in the PRC, including a company structured offshore but whose value is ultimately tied through a relationship in the PRC.
⚠️ Some Chinese companies that use offshore corporate entities hide or do not identify their primary Chinese corporate domicile in their listing information. This complicates tracing, making it difficult to guarantee that this list captures all Chinese companies registered offshore.
I should also point out that this list does not include companies domiciled exclusively in Hong Kong or Macau.
⚠️ Remember, this list only considers Chinese companies listed on three of the largest U.S. stock exchanges: New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Nasdaq, and NYSE American.
Oh, and btw, this isn’t a list I came up with. This info was compiled by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. It’s their methodology and list.
Since the majority is a VIE, I’ve marked the ones that are not registered as a VIE with an asterisk (*). This is determined using the most recent annual report filed with the SEC. A company is judged to have a VIE if:
  1. It explicitly describes using a VIE to conduct all or part of its business operations in China, or
  2. It describes a subsidiary in which it has no direct equity interest but relies on contractual arrangements to exercise control and receive economic benefits from its operations in China.
⚠️ For companies that have been listed for less than a year, information contained in the company’s most recently updated investment prospectus, as filed with the SEC, is used instead.
Chinese companies listed on U.S. exchanges
Companies are arranged by the size of their current market capitalization. All companies utilize a VIE corporate structure, except those marked with an asterisk (*).
BABA Alibaba Group Holding Limited PDD Pinduoduo Inc. NTES NetEase, Inc. JD JD.com, Inc. BIDU Baidu, Inc TCOM Trip.com International, Ltd. TME Tencent Music Entertainment Group LI Li Auto BEKE KE Holdings BGNE BeiGene * ZTO ZTO Express (Cayman) Inc. YUMC Yum China Holdings Inc. EDU New Oriental Education & Technology Group, Inc. HTHT H World Group Limited * NIO NIO Inc. YMM Full Truck Alliance Co. Ltd VIPS Vipshop Holdings Limited TAL TAL Education Group LEGN Legend Biotech * MNSO Miniso * BZ Kanzhun Limited XPEV Xpeng BILI Bilibili Inc. IQ iQIYI, Inc. CSIQ Canadian Solar Inc. * EH Ehang TUYA Tuya Inc. NOAH Noah Holdings Ltd. HUYA HUYA Inc. KC Kingsoft Cloud YALA Yalla *
These are only 51 of the 261 Chinese companies currently listed on the major U.S. exchanges to comply with rule three. I kept the market cap minimum at $750M to allow for some wiggle room.
I mentioned earlier that the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission had 265 tickers, but that was on January 8, 2024. Since then, three companies have been acquired, and the other one has voluntarily delisted.
As you can confirm, the vast majority is structured as a VIE.
I was going to include charts to illustrate how several Chinese stocks—aside from the ones with the biggest market caps—tend to display sudden rallies, followed by after-hours reversals. It is important to recognize them, whether you want to capitalize on them, or avoid them entirely. But I can't add any more attachments, so...
Besides, it's unlikely that many of you have even read this far without images.
Have a good day.

2024.05.13 22:49 Historical_Paper4110 Transfer saved game from Game Pass PC to Steam?

Hi! I played DD1 for like 20 hours on Game Pass PC. Is there a way to transfer the saved game to Steam? I have been checking online but there is no exact answer.
In Game Pass I can see a folder like: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Packages\RedHookStudios.DarkestDungeonPC_cmswxrp4kbk28 but I cannot see anything that looks like saved game, all folders are empty practically less one that is like: SystemAppData\wgs\000900000442065E_0000000000000000000000007BC877D3\1EB2E7CEA0F94685895816E75736D607 but all the files inside are random GUIDs or similar like the folder names.
I created a new game in Steam and if I go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\19438316\262060\remote\profile_0 there is a bunch of .json files that I asume are my saved game.
Also all the profiles in C:\Users\\Documents\Darkest seems empty
Any help? is game pass PC encoding my saved games? if yes, is there a way to decode them and transfer to Steam?

Hello to all!

As most of you know Drum Corps, for better and worse, is changing as it always has throughout the years. The history of our activity is for the most part not written down but held as an oral tradition that is passed down from generation to generation. The Drum Corps Oral History Project is here to record and archive that history in a manner that it will be available to both the general public and researchers who come after.
Your support and participation is greatly wanted as you are a part of the long story of the activity and deserve to have your story preserved as part of this archive. Once a persons interview has been concluded the audio will be transcribed and made searchable in the Projects collection. Before entry into the collection each interviewee will have the chance to review and approve the video and transcript for accuracy and one last chance to redact anything you want to out of it.
Anyone who has had any part in the activity, members, staff, volunteers, Judges, People who sold horns and drums, anything, even if it was just for a day. We are looking to gather a wide range of viewpoints and experiences from each and every aspect of the activity. We want both details and vibes, stuff that show recordings, score recaps, drill pages, sheet music can’t tell us.
We want to hear of course about the good times, but also the bad times, the times everything didn’t go right. This is all part of our history and deserves to be documented.
If you feel that you want to help preserve the history of our activity and donate your story please fill out the interest from at this link. We will contact you to get the process started towards your donation. If you just want to support the project please follow the link to our Patreon where we’ll have some inside info and exclusive status updates along with other benefits as we ramp up the project. An example of this would be access to trivia nights and other community events.
For right now this is starting small, interviews will be conducted over zoom but the growth plan has us one day spinning off from Lookaround.miami to become a 501c3 not for profit with a traveling studio that will be at shows to expand our reach and preserve as much of our shared history as possible.
The Drum Corps Oral History Projects mission is to RECORD, DOCUMENT, and PRESERVE the history of the Drum Corps Activity through its unique oral history tradition, while working with other groups to add a deeper context to its story.
So we ask you to please help us preserve our history for generations to come and donate your story.

I am currently taking paypal for games, you always go first and cover fees

My Rep Page has not been updated in about 5 years, but I have a lot of trades finished
Bolded items are just the ones I would like to consider keeping so don't feel as though you need to offer more for the game

2024.05.13 20:46 Queer_always Trip report April 24-26 + AMA

Hi Disneylanders! Back stateside, so as promised, here's a trip report from my three-day visit. This covers transport, staying at the Disneyland Hotel, several upscale meals, Premier Access, and my experiences with French vs English. (For Disneyland, CA fans, I'll make a separate posts with some comparisons and a different AMA.)
My stats, for reference: solo traveler (30sF) from California; fairly frequent visitor and amateur scholar of Disneyland, CA. Not a first timer but it had been 12 years. Competent in French.
Hang onto your hats and glasses, 'cause this here may get... detailed.
Transportation:
I took the TGV direct from CDG, figuring correctly that Disneyland energy would shake me out of jet lag. It's an easy trip and quick exit from Marne-la-Vallée, much smoother and faster than the RER. Baggage claimed to feet in the hotel lobby took less than an hour.
Disneyland Hotel and private entry:
The hotel was still guest-only while I was staying there. Beautiful premises and worth every penny. The whole place is full of charming details, and the views of the whole resort are unbeatable. It also offers the best food and drinks I had during my stay (will cover that next).
My room was an entry-level Superior near the far side of the West Wing. Very generously-sized, even by American standards, and well-appointed. Vaguely Little Mermaid-themed, and I had a small terrace (most rooms didn't seem to, but mine was rounding a corner).
Since you can only get in on the east (lobby) side, if you're staying in the West Wing, plan an extra couple of minutes of "commute" time to get from one end of the hotel to the other. The good news is that your walk takes you through the corridor with picture windows offering twin views of Disneyland Park and Disney Village, as well as past the bar and restaurants and shop. That said, it only took about 5 minutes total for me to get from the room to the park through the DLH guest-only entrance.
Speaking of said entrance: this might be one of the best perks. The guest-only entrance never had a wait, even three minutes before Extra Magic Hours opened. I was second through the turnstiles. There's an exit on that side as well, and save for my afternoon at Studios, it's the only entry and exit point I used.
Sit-down food and drink:
I'm from a very foodie/cocktail pioneering city in the US and have pretty high standards. I found the quick service food, on the few occasions I grabbed it, to be mediocre, but the sit-down meals were surprisingly good. Drink quality varied widely. I have rated them based on a combo of food quality and atmosphere.
My assessments:
Disneyland Hotel Breakfast: I was one of the last seated on both days, and they seated me right next to a window overlooking the park in the Lumière section of the restaurant. Viennoiserie and other things were good, but the highlights were the fresh smoothies and the eggs. I've never had such a silky scramble in my life. Food 5/5 for the eggs alone. Experience 5/5.
Captain Jack's (lunch): The Caribbean version of Blue Bayou, and as charmingly themed. Nothing like being greeted with "bonsoir" in the early afternoon. Food was not great, though, and my cocktail was sugary and weak. Food 2.5/5, experience 4/5.
L'Auberge de Cendrillon (dinner): Immersive Fantasyland space and pretty good 3 course dinner. I requested the characters not interact with me, since I'm there for atmosphere, and they complied. Food 4/5, experience 4/5.
Walt's (lunch): Great view of Main Street, fun story, decent but not great food/wine. Loved touring the different themed rooms, and they were happy to let me. Food 3/5, experience 4/5.
La Table de Lumière (dinner): Delightful experience, stunning interior, excellent food by Disney standards, enjoyed the champagne tasting and a beautiful cocktail to start (they froze a rose inside an ice spear). The royal couples did in fact all stop to talk to me, even when I made it clear I didn't need them to; it was easier to just comply than explain. I don't fault them for it. Food 5/5, experience 4.5/5.
Fleur de Lys (nightcap and one midday cocktail break): Charming and comfortable interior with royal crests, and pretty darn good cocktails (though they put soda water in their old fashioned, which is heresy). I sat at the bar and chatted a lot with the staff, and they kept putting nice little treats in front of me to snack on. The drinks are expensive, but it's a great adults-only refuge. Cocktails 4.5/5, experience 5/5.
Agrabah Café Restaurant (lunch): Moroccan/Mediterranean buffet, pretty good quality. The space is incredibly cool and meticulously detailed: best story design of the restaurants in my opinion. The carafe wine was decent and an amazing value. Food 4/5, experience 4.5/5.
Premier Access:
I'm allergic to lines longer than 15 minutes and, in California, am really good at circumventing them through planning. Paris has much lighter lines in general, at least during my visit, but when I saw 30m and up with no single rider line, I'd pay a few euros to skip. As a solo visitor, I was a walk-on for everything but the Avengers coaster (that queueing system is a nightmare) with the Premier pass.
I tried out both individual and daily passes. Would recommend the individual, but not the daily. Not sure how they price things dynamically, but the day pass cost like 160 euros for me. I was rushing to get my full value out of it all day, based on individual pass cost, and failed to break even. It was way more stress than fun.
French vs English:
I don't look French at all, so I did get a fair number of people defaulting to English, but I did feel like I got treated better (and certainly got more interesting conversation, secrets, tips etc) when I spoke in French. Happy to share more in AMA, but details on this would probably be tedious to most people here.
I'll be back with some Paris/Anaheim comparisons. Thanks again to everyone who gave me tips beforehand; it was super helpful!

2024.05.13 20:14 CryRepresentative962 Scales

I am a high school orchestra teacher and I need a good scale system for my violinists. I am a cellist and I use the Galamian method that Hans wrote. My cellists all use this system and it works great, and it really gets them shifting comfortably knowing the geography of their instrument. This method has been passed down from generation to generation in cello studios.
What scale system for two octave scales can I teach my violinists that follows the same pattern/idea? Some of my more advanced students use their first finger for the first note of every scale and shift all the way up the G string to start each scale.
Another 2 questions I have is if the kids are shifting up the violin for every scale and starting every scale on 1, do you find they 1. Know the notes they’re playing, and 2. make the transfer of the notes being played in first position or when the encounter the key signatures they’ve learned the scales for?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! :)

2024.05.13 20:06 SanderSo47 Part 1

As Reddit doesn't allow posts to exceed 40,000 characters, Eastwood's edition had to be split into two parts because his whole career cannot be ignored. The second part will be posted tomorrow.

Here's a new edition of "Directors at the Box Office", which seeks to explore the directors' trajectory at the box office and analyze their hits and bombs. I already talked about a few, and as I promised, it's Clint Eastwood's turn.
Eastwood was a troublemaker at school, and he had a bunch of odd jobs such as lifeguard, paper carrier, grocery clerk, forest firefighter, and golf caddy. In 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War and was discharged two years later. Through this, he got into contact with a Hollywood representative, who got him into acting classes and started his acting career. He got his start by starring in the hit show Rawhide, but he said he was exhausted by the experience. This caught the attention of some film producers and he decided to act in films directed by the then-unknown Sergio Leone. His career was on the rise, and then he got the chance to make his directorial debut.
From a box office perspective, how reliable was he to deliver a box office hit?
That's the point of this post. To analyze his career.

It should be noted that as he started his career in the 1970s, some of the domestic grosses here will be adjusted by inflation. The table with his highest grossing films, however, will be left in its unadjusted form, as the worldwide grosses are more difficult to adjust.

Play Misty for Me (1971)

"The scream you hear may be your own!"
His directorial debut. It stars Eastwood, Jessica Walter and Donna Mills, and follows a radio disc jockey being stalked by an obsessed female fan.
Before his colleague Irving Leonard died, he and Eastwood had discussed the idea of producing a film that was to give Eastwood the artistic control he desired, and his debut as a director. Eastwood said he was ready, "I stored away all the mistakes I made and saved up all the good things I learned, and now I know enough to control my own projects and get what I want out of actors."
The film was a huge success for Eastwood, and it also received positive reviews. So far, his directorial career was off to a great start.

High Plains Drifter (1973)

"They'd never forget the day he drifted into town."
His second film. The film stars Eastwood, Verna Bloom and Mariana Hill, and follows a mysterious stranger who metes out justice in a corrupt frontier mining town.
Eastwood reportedly liked the offbeat quality of the film's original nine-page proposal and approached Universal with the idea of directing it, which would make it his first directed Western. The screenplay was inspired by the real-life murder of Kitty Genovese in Queens in 1964, which eyewitnesses reportedly stood by and watched. Holes in the plot were filled in with black humor and allegory, influenced by Sergio Leone.
It was well received, and the film even surpassed Play Misty for Me at the box office. Eastwood was just going up.

Breezy (1973)

"Her name is Breezy."
His third film. It stars William Holden and Kay Lenz, and follows the relationship between a middle-aged real estate agent and a young hitchhiker.
This was his first directed film without starring on it. And his lack of presence certainly hurt the film; it received mixed reviews and flopped at the box office.

The Eiger Sanction (1975)

"His lifeline, held by the assassin he hunted."
His fourth film. Based on the novel by Trevanian, the film stars Eastwood, George Kennedy, Vonetta McGee, and Jack Cassidy. It follows Jonathan Hemlock, an art history professor, mountain climber, and former assassin once employed by a secret government agency, who is blackmailed into returning to his deadly profession for one last mission.
The film received mixed reactions for its writing, and it wasn't a box office success either.

The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)

"An army of one."
His fifth film. Based on the novel Gone to Texas by Forrest Carter, it stars Eastwood, Chief Dan George, Sondra Locke, Bill McKinney and John Vernon. The film tells the story of Josey Wales, a Missouri farmer whose family is murdered by Union militia during the Civil War. Driven to revenge, Wales joins a Confederate guerrilla band and makes a name for himself as a feared gunfighter. After the war, all the fighters in Wales' group except for him surrender to Union soldiers, but the Confederates end up being massacred. Wales becomes an outlaw and is pursued by bounty hunters and Union soldiers as he tries to make a new life for himself.
Eastwood was fascinated by the novel and he bought the film rights, hoping to star on the film. He got Philip Kaufman involved as screenwriter and possible director, but left after disagreeing with Eastwood in the material adapted to the screen. Kaufman insisted on filming with a meticulous attention to detail, which caused disagreements with Eastwood, not to mention the attraction the two shared towards Locke and apparent jealousy on Kaufman's part in regard to their emerging relationship. This caused Eastwood to take over as the director. Kaufman's firing angered the DGA, as he did most of the pre-production, and sanctioning a $60,000 fine. This resulted in the Director's Guild passing a new rule, known as "the Eastwood Rule", which prohibits an actor or producer from firing the director and then personally taking on the director's role.
The film received critical acclaim, and in subsequent years, is ranked among Eastwood's greatest films. It was also a huge success at the box office, doubling his previous highest grossing film. It was also one of the few Western films to receive critical and commercial success in the 1970s at a time when the Western was thought to be dying as a major genre in Hollywood.

The Gauntlet (1977)

"The man in the middle of..."
His sixth film. It stars Eastwood, Sondra Locke, Pat Hingle, William Prince, Bill McKinney, and Mara Corday. It follows a down-and-out cop who falls in love with a prostitute, to whom he is assigned to escort from Las Vegas to Phoenix for her to testify against the mob.
While it received mixed reviews, it became another box office success for Eastwood, becoming his now highest grossing film.

Bronco Billy (1980)

"The most outrageous of 'em all."
His seventh film. The film stars Eastwood and Sondra Locke, and focuses on the financially-struggling owner of a traditional Wild West show and his new assistant.
It became another critical and commercial success for Eastwood, who referred to the film as one of his most affable shoots of his career.

Firefox (1982)

"The most devastating killing machine ever built... his job... steal it!"
His eighth film. Based on the novel by Craig Thomas, it stars Eastwood, Freddie Jones and David Huffman. The Soviets have developed a revolutionary new jet fighter, called "Firefox". Naturally, the British are worried that the jet will be used as a first-strike weapon, as rumors say that the jet is undetectable on radar. They send ex-Vietnam War pilot Mitchell Gant on a covert mission into the Soviet Union to steal the Firefox.
The film received mixed reviews, but it earned almost $47 million, becoming Eastwood's highest grossing title as director.

Honkytonk Man (1982)

"The boy is on his way to becoming a man. The man is on his way to becoming a legend."
His ninth film. It's based on the novel by Clancy Carlile, and it stars Eastwood and his son Kyle. It follows Red Stovall, a country music singer and composer. With his nephew Whit by his side, he travels to Nashville to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in the backdrop of the Great Depression.
While the film received acclaim, it earned just $4.4 million, becoming his second worst performer.

Sudden Impact (1983)

"Dirty Harry is at it again."
His tenth film. The fourth installment in the Dirty Harry series, directed, it stars Eastwood and Sondra Locke. The film tells the story of a gang rape victim who decides to seek revenge on her rapists 10 years after the attack by killing them one by one. Inspector Harry Callahan, famous for his unconventional and often brutal crime-fighting tactics, is tasked with tracking down the serial killer.
The film received mixed reviews from critics, but it earned over $150 million worldwide, Eastwood's first film to pass that milestone. It's also very popular for including the iconic catchphrase, "Go ahead, make my day."

Tightrope (1984)

"A cop on the edge..."
His 11th film. It stars Eastwood, Geneviève Bujold, Dan Hedaya, Alison Eastwood and Jennifer Beck, and follows a detective determined to hunt down a sadomasochistic serial killer of prostitutes.
The film became another critical and commercial success for Eastwood.

Pale Rider (1985)

"...And Hell followed with him."
His 12th film. It stars Eastwood, Michael Moriarty and Carrie Snodgress. A couple and their daughter, along with a few others, are driven out of Lahood, California, by goons working for a mining baron. However, a stranger enters their life to assist them in their fight.
There was no stopping Eastwood: another critical and commercial success.

Heartbreak Ridge (1986)

"The scars run deep."
His 13th film. It stars Eastwood, Marsha Mason, Everett McGill, and Mario Van Peebles. The story centers on a U.S. Marine nearing retirement who gets a platoon of undisciplined Marines into shape and leads them during the American invasion of Grenada in 1983.
The film was inspired by an account of American paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division using a pay telephone and a credit card to call in fire support during the invasion of Grenada, and fashioned a script of a Korean War veteran career Army non-commissioned officer passing on his values to a new generation of soldiers. Eastwood was interested in the script and asked his producer, Fritz Manes, to contact the US Army with a view of filming the movie at Fort Bragg. However, the Army read the script and refused to participate, due to Highway being portrayed as a hard drinker, divorced from his wife, and using unapproved motivational methods to his troops, an image the Army did not want.
It received mixed reviews, with some deeming the film as "imperialist propaganda". But it was still another box office success.

Bird (1988)

"There are no second acts in American lives."
His 14th film. The film stars Forest Whitaker and Diane Venora. It is constructed as a montage of scenes from saxophonist Charlie Parker's life, from his childhood in Kansas City, through his early death at the age of 34.
Eastwood, a lifelong fan of jazz, had been fascinated by Parker ever since seeing him perform live in Oakland in 1946. He approached Chan Parker, Bird's common-law wife on whose memoirs the script was based, for input, and she lent Eastwood and arranger Lennie Niehaus a collection of recordings from her private collection Before Eastwood was involved, Richard Pryor was originally cast as Parker.
Despitive positive reviews, it performed poorly, earning just $2.2 million in North America.

White Hunter Black Heart (1990)

"An adventure in obsession."
His 15th film. Based on the novel by Peter Viertel, it stars Eastwood, Jeff Fahey, George Dzundza, Alun Armstrong and Marisa Berenson. It follows a famous movie director, John Wilson, who goes to Africa to make his next movie. He is an obstinate, contrary director who'd rather hunt elephants than take care of his crew or movie. He has become obsessed with one particular elephant and cares for nothing else.
Despite positive reviews, it made just $2.3 million domestically, not even 10% of the budget.

The Rookie (1990)

His 16th film. The film stars Eastwood, Charlie Sheen, Raul Julia, Sônia Braga, Lara Flynn Boyle, and Tom Skerritt. It follows a veteran police officer teamed up with a younger detective, whose intent is to take down a German crime lord in downtown Los Angeles, following months of investigation into an exotic car theft ring.
It received negative reviews for its acting and story, and it became another flop for Eastwood. That's three bombs in a row. Ouch.

Unforgiven (1992)

"Some legends will never be forgotten. Some wrongs can never be forgiven."
His 17th film. It stars Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Richard Harris and Morgan Freeman. It follows William Munny, a widower with two young kids, who was once a very vicious gunfighter who gave up everything after marriage. Now, a man named Schofield Kid brings him an offer that he cannot refuse, forcing him to come out of retirement for one last job.
David Webb Peoples wrote the script all the way back to 1976, and it was optioned by Francis Ford Coppola, but he lacked the funds needed to helm it. By Eastwood's own recollection, he was given the script in the "early 80s" although he did not immediately pursue it, because, according to him, "I thought I should do some other things first". Eastwood has long asserted that the film would be his last traditional Western, concerned that any future projects would simply rehash previous plotlines or imitate someone else's work. He dedicated the film to his close friends and mentors Sergio Leone and Don Siegel. Hackman initially refused to participate as his daughters were upset that he was starring in too many violent films, but he became fascinated by the script that he agreed.
It opened with $15 million and it legged all the way to $100 million after playing for almost one year, closing with $159 million worldwide, his now highest grossing film. The film received Eastwood's best reviews of his career, with many considering the film as his magnum opus as director. It received 9 Oscar nominations, and won four: Best Picture and Best Director for Eastwood, Best Supporting Actor for Hackman, and Best Film Editing. So Eastwood, on top of being a reliable box office draw, was now a 2-time Oscar winner.

A Perfect World (1993)

His 18th film. Kevin Costner, Eastwood and Laura Dern, and follows an escaped convict who takes a young boy hostage and attempts to escape on the road with the child, while being pursued by a Texas Ranger.
The film received critical acclaim, and has appeared as one of Eastwood's best films. The film disappointed in North America, but it earned up to $100 million overseas (Eastwood's first film to gross that much) and ended with $135 million worldwide.

The Bridges of Madison County (1995)

"The human heart has a way of making itself large again even after it's been broken into a million pieces."
His 19th film. Based on the novel by Robert James Waller, it stars Eastwood and Meryl Streep. The film is set in 1965, following a war bride, Francesca Johnson, who lives with her husband and two children on their Iowa farm. That year she meets National Geographic photojournalist, Robert Kincaid, who comes to Madison County, Iowa to photograph its historic covered bridges. With Francesca's family away for a short trip, the couple have an intense, four-day love affair.
It received more critical acclaim, and made over $180 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film. For her performance, Streep was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress.

Absolute Power (1997)

His 20th film. Based on the novel by David Baldacci, it stars Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, Laura Linney, Judy Davis, Scott Glenn, Dennis Haysbert, and Richard Jenkins. It follows a master jewel thief who witnesses the killing of a woman by Secret Service agents.
It received mixed reviews, and disappointed at the box office.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997)

"Welcome to Savannah, Georgia. A Ccty of hot nights and cold blooded murder."
His 21st film. Based on the book by John Berendt, it stars John Cusack and Kevin Spacey. It follows the story of antiques dealer Jim Williams, on trial for the killing of a male prostitute who was his lover. The multiple trials depicted in Berendt's book are combined into one trial for the film.
It received mediocre reviews, and flopped at the box office.

True Crime (1999)

His 22nd film. Based on the novel by Andrew Klavan, it stars Eastwood, Isaiah Washington, Denis Leary, LisaGay Hamilton and James Woods. It follows a journalist covering the execution of a death row inmate, only to discover that the convict may actually be innocent.
This was another project that received mediocre reviews and flopped at the box office.

Space Cowboys (2000)

"Boys will be boys."
His 23rd film. It stars Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, and James Garner as four aging former test pilots who are sent into space to repair an old Soviet satellite.
It received very positive reviews, and earned over $128 million worldwide.

Blood Work (2002)

"He's a heartbeat away from catching the killer."
His 24th film. Based on the novel by Michael Connelly, it stars Eastwood, Jeff Daniels, Wanda De Jesús, and Anjelica Huston. It follows a retired FBI agent who recently had a heart transplant but still takes up the job to nab a killer.
It was another film with mediocre reviews and flop status.

Mystic River (2003)

"We bury our sins, we wash them clean."
His 25th film. Based on the novel by Dennis Lehane, it stars Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden, and Laura Linney. It follows three childhood friends who are reunited 25 years later when one of them suffers a family tragedy.
Michael Keaton was originally cast in the role of Det. Sean Devine, and did several script readings with the cast, as well as his own research into the practices of the Massachusetts Police Department. However, creative differences between Keaton and Eastwood led to Keaton leaving the production. He was replaced by Kevin Bacon. This was the first film in which Eastwood would be credited as composer.
The film had a slow roll-out, but it was aided by strong word of mouth, closing with a wonderful $156 million worldwide. It also received acclaim, and was named as one of Eastwood's greatest films. Sean Penn received universal acclaim for his performance, with some naming it among the best acting of the century, particularly for one scene (if you watched it, you definitely know which scene). It received 6 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Eastwood. It won two: Best Actor for Penn and Best Supporting Actor for Robbins.

Come back tomorrow for Part 2

The Verdict

Hope you liked this edition. You can find this and more in the wiki for this section.
The next director will be Robert Zemeckis. One of the biggest falls from grace.
I asked you to choose who else should be in the run and the comment with the most upvotes would be chosen. It had to be a controversial filmmaker. Well, we'll later talk about... Zack Snyder. Oh, BoxOffice chose fuego 🔥
This is the schedule for the following four:
Week Director Reasoning
May 20-26 Robert Zemeckis Can we get old Zemeckis back?
May 27-June 2 Richard Donner An influential figure of the 70s and 80s.

2024.05.13 19:39 Relative-Obscurity Today's Earthquake opened a crevasse in the floor of my basement apartment. And I can hear someone whispering from inside it.

Link to original nosleep post:
https://www.reddit.com/nosleep/comments/1bwzjl9/todays_earthquake_opened_a_crevasse_in_the_floo
There had always been a crack in the floor of my tiny NYC basement apartment. A massive, sprawling crack that covered the ground like a giant spider web. It was so cracked, in fact, that I often wondered what was even keeping my place from collapsing into whatever lay beneath it.
Was it imperfect? Yes. Was it distracting? Yes. Was it an eyesore? Yes.
But in New York City, when you find a studio apartment that possesses that rare combination of affordable and conveniently located to the subway, sometimes imperfect's just gotta do.
So I lived with it. For two years to be precise. I guess I could have called the landlord, and demanded that he fix it. But I fancy myself... something of a procrastinator. And to be honest, other than a handful of times when a friend would visit and ask what was wrong with my floor, I almost forgot that the crack even existed.
That is, until this morning. When, at around 10:23 am Eastern Time, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake hit NYC, shaking my apartment building, and causing that very crack on my floor, to crumble into pieces and cave away, unearthing of all things... a crevasse that appeared to lead deep into the earth.
Now, anyone in their right mind would have immediately called their landlord, or emergency services, or both. But like I said. I'm a procrastinator. So, somewhere between when the quake hit and my slew of remote work calls began, I kind of just... blocked it out, and went about my day, business as usual.
I blocked it out so much so, that at one point, upon discovering that I had an hour and a half break between my calls, I even took a nap.
But the thing about taking a nap when you've got a chasm into an unknown abyss in your apartment is... strange things can happen while you're sleeping.
Things like... hearing whispers coming from inside the fissure, calling for you to venture down into it.
"What the?" I gasped, as I awoke from my midday slumber, to hear the news of the earthquake still playing faintly on my TV. But that wasn't the sound that I had heard in my dreams.
Must have been a nightmare. I thought to myself, before walking into the bathroom and turning on my electric toothbrush, to freshen up my post-nap breath.
BUZZ.
But as it buzzed away, just as it always did, for what was two perfectly timed minutes but felt like an eternity, I could have sworn I heard a voice coming from the other room.
CLICK. As the toothbrush went silent.
Nothing.
CLICK.
BUZZ. As the toothbrush started buzzing again.
Wait. There it is again.
CLICK.
But this time, when the toothbrush went silent, I caught the tail end of someone whispering in the other room.
"Climb down. Climb down." The voice called out ominously.
I put down my toothbrush, leaned back, and looked into the studio, at the hole in the center of my floor, half-expecting to see someone crawling out of it. But I saw... nothing.
"I'm losing it." I said out loud, before throwing on a pair of headphones, and rushing back to another conference call.
Sure enough, about fifteen minutes into the meeting, as I feigned interest in the subject matter and laughter at my boss' lame jokes, I started to hear the voice again.
CLICK. As I muted the call.
"Climb down. Climb down."
"What the fuck?" I called out, still on mute but visually concerned enough to attract the attention of my boss.
"Hey, Dave? Dave? Everything okay?" He asked.
CLICK. CLICK. As I unmuted the call, and my microphone.
"Uh, yeah. Sorry, someone accidentally buzzed my apartment. The neighbor must have a package."
"Oh, right." He replied, before continuing on with whatever nonsense he was ranting about in the first place.
CLICK. As I muted my microphone, but left his audio playing. I tried my best to listen to what he was saying, and to focus on his words. I really did.
But no matter how hard I tried, I kept getting distracted by the whisper.
"Climb down. Climb down."
"Climb down. Climb down."
Until eventually, I couldn't take it anymore.
CLICK. As I unmuted my microphone.
"Hey, guys. I'm sorry, this delivery man just keeps buzzing. I'll be right back."
CLICK. WHOOSH. As I left the meeting.
"Climb down. Climb down."
I sat there for a moment, staring at the chasm in my floor where the giant crack used to be, and, for reasons I don't quite understand, walked over to it, looked down, and considered climbing in.
But before I could even take a step inside...
BUZZ.
...I was snapped out of whatever had come over me by the sound of my phone buzzing on the kitchen table.
And upon checking it, I saw a text message from Jenny, a girl I'd met on the dating apps and had gone on a few dates with. Three, to be precise.
"Hey I'm outside!"
Fuck. I thought to myself, remembering that we had plans to watch a movie after work.
"Be right there." I texted back, as I ran up the stairs and let her in.
"What the fuck is that?" Jenny asked, as she entered my apartment, and carefully passed by the crevasse in the center of the room.
"Oh. That." I said, letting out a sigh. "Uh, you know that earthquake today?"
"Yeah?" She replied.
I simply pointed at the fissure and smiled.
"But it was just a 4.8?" She asked.
"Uh, there was this crack. That I probably should have fixed." I said.
She laughed out loud. "Well I can honestly say this is a first. But you know what? Dating in NYC, not the worst apartment I've seen."
At that moment, I thought about coming clean, and telling her about the whispers that I'd heard coming from the hole in the floor. But before I could bring myself to do so, I had second thoughts.
What's wrong with you? Clearly there's nothing down there. The fact that there's a giant crevasse in your floor is bad enough. If you tell her that, you're gonna creep her out.
So I just kept the whispers to myself.
That is, until they started happening again.
"What was that?" Jenny asked, as she paused the movie.
"Wait, what was what?" I replied, playing dumb.
"That noise. It sounded like a voice."
I was both relieved to hear that she'd heard the whisper but at the same time terrified that she had. Because I guess that meant that it must be real after all, and that I would have to explain that I had heard it as well.
So I just turned up the volume on the TV, and hoped the voice would go away.
Sure enough, the movie was playing so loud, in fact, that we couldn't hear anything else. So if it was still happening, we couldn't hear it.
And so, after about an hour of watching the movie, with the volume as loud as possible, I once again forgot about the whispers.
Until suddenly...
DING.
...The doorbell rang.
"Pizza's here!" I said to Jenny.
CLICK. As I paused the movie.
"That was quick!" She replied.
"Be right back." I said, as I hopped up from the couch, ran up the stairs, opened the door, and greeted the delivery person outside.
"Here ya go." He said, pulling the oversized pizza box out of his delivery bag and handing it to me.
"Thanks." I replied, before attempting to balance the pizza box and rummage through my wallet for a tip. But all I had was a twenty. "Got change?"
He then proceeded to rummage through his own wallet, looking for the proper change, before handing a ten and two fives back to me.
"Here, thanks again." I said, handing him the ten, waving goodbye, closing the door, and running back downstairs.
But when I got back down to my apartment, I made a horrifying discovery...
…Jenny, crawling into the crevasse feet first, half her body nearly submerged into the ground.
"Jenny, no!" I screamed, as I dropped the pizza box, ran over, and pulled her out of the chasm.
"Huh? What's going on?" She asked, as if awoken from a dream.
"You were crawling into the crevasse." I said, still catching my breath.
"What?" She replied, confused, and rightfully so.
I spent the better part of the next thirty minutes trying to explain everything to Jenny. The crevasse. The voices. Why I hadn't told her about the voices. How I had nearly crawled inside the crevasse. And how she had almost done the same.
But as one can imagine, it was all a bit too much for a fourth date, causing Jenny to leave in a panic, and likely, never contact me again.
Now I'm left here, sitting by myself, staring at the crevasse with the movie's audio on as loud as possible, as I wonder who's been whispering, if they'll ever stop, and what I should do next.

Link do nosso vídeo aqui: Presidente do Xbox Se Pronuncia Sobre Fechamento de Estúdios, Entenda o Real Motivo
Introdução
Fala clube, beleza?
A Entrevista
Agora escuta e analisa comigo a resposta.

2024.05.13 19:14 AFilip515 First time with little kids - One Day, 2 Park

Hello! I have not been to Universal since the early 90s. I can still smell Kong’s banana breath in my memories. So early 90s that they had a real, functioning Nickelodeon Studio on site. Traveling mid June for a Diney trip, but doing a 1 day, 2 Park Universal stop (USO&IOA). I am not doing the express passes because they cost more than the park passes! Crazytown. Anyways, my kids are 4 & 8. What are the must do attractions for them? Dreamworks will be open by that point (just barely), so I’m sure there will be something there, but I’m trying to plan ahead as much as possible, knowing it will be hard with wait times. We will be at the park on Monday, June 17. Thank you in advance!

2024.05.13 18:25 memoriaxx Starting internship at first high-end studio tonight and not sure how to feel

So I recently moved to LA and now that I’m settled in, I’m finally starting a new internship tonight. I’ve worked prev. internships but these were the most basic intern jobs you can imagine (getting coffee, cleaning, just observing etc). The one I start tonight is at a pretty big commercial studio with plenty of mainstream clients. After speaking with the studio manager about what it entails, it seems to be a lot more hands on with the equipment, mixing, etc. I’m a bit intimidated being that it’s such a high end studio but obviously I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
Would really appreciate any insight anyone has on things I should do to make the most out of this. Things I should expect, do’s and don’t etc.
TIA.
