2024.05.14 02:21 Tablefish06 GP10s are dogsh*t

I have tried seemingly everything to get my gp10 to record on external power only without a battery as I’m trying to use it as essentially a dash cam, I’m not running any demanding features like gps, stabilisation, horizon leveling just 1080p on 60fps, I’ve never gotten the overheating message I’m even using GoPro labs to tell the camera to trust the usb power, I’m running the camera off my cars cigarette lighter which is more then enough to run the camera power wise, and not using a dodgy sd card I’m using a Samsung evo plus 128gb card, even using a portable charger it’s still cuts out, it runs fine for 2 minutes and then shuts down.

2024.05.14 02:04 somebloke9 Having some issues

So last year i got a samsung watch so that I didnt have to carry my phone for runs anymore and track some others things like heart rate/cal loss whilst using the strava app But ive noticed lately that the info that gets posted on strava is a bit different from what my watch tells me on the run
Firstly my start/end points are usually wrong (waited for the gps to lock which i thought would fix the issue but hasnt)
And my distance and timings are usually incorrect For example last night i did a 2.4km run with a 12min finish time according to the strava app on my watch But when it synced and uploaded on my phone it only showed a 1.7km run with a 7 min time Not sure if its tracking late or if the tracking is finishing early but as stated above the start/end points where pretty off (almost no where near my actual start/end points) As far as im aware all the permissions have been allowed and ive turned power saving mode off so not fully sure whats going on with it
Ive also noticed that on the map itself that sometimes (mostly happens when i use my phone but happens on the watch aswell) that the trail is incorrect (reckons i ran accross the road or did loops in places i didnt) Any help/advice with this would be greatly appreciated, Thanks 🤙

2024.05.13 21:00 DigitalArbitrage Improving GPS Accuracy

I like the Nike Run Club app a lot. However, the accuracy of the GPS is not very good. The app thinks I am traveling about 30% further than I am. I know this because of the same app on my running partners' phones and the GPS on my smartwatch.
My phone is a Samsung S20FE. Normally the GPS works fine for car navigation. When I run I do put the phone in a hydration backpack.
Is there anything I can do to improve the GPS accuracy?

2024.05.13 19:26 Adventurous-Test-246 Samsung Gear 2 (samsung-rinato)

I was looking at the list of watches with linux support by asteroid and postmarket OS and noticed that with the exception of wifi the gear 2 has decent support in PmOs but no mention of it is made on asteroid side of the equation.
Has anyone tried this watch with asteroid?
There is even something of mainline kernel support by Samsung albeit old.
https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Category:Watch

The reason i ask is i want a "mainline" supported watch that i can at least distro hop between PmOs and Asteroid for more options. Also a rectangular screen is preferable. I am not a dev of any sort but i dont like that my current watch (coros pace 2) is a biometric & gps tracking blackbox just waiting to do who knows what if i ever connected it to anything. Also since i use a pinephone i cant use the coros app anyway. The watch is great and was a gift but it is still a privacy concern.
That said i dream of standardizing on one OS or at leat some form of linux and if it is possible for me to run pmos/alpine on my phone watch and laptops then i want to move toward that.
I am open to any other rectangular screened mainline supported watches but i dont see many options. I can do rounded screens but i just dont like the idea.

2024.05.13 17:08 tgilbert03 Bushnell Wingman GPS issues

Hello, I was wondering if anyone experienced issues with the GPS audio on the original Wingman?
I have an Android, Samsung S21 Ultra and whenever I load a course to get the range, the audio is sped up so fast it sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks.
The music part works great but whenever it gives the GPS distances, it is impossible to understand.
I know this is normally an issue when using a GPS for navigation while driving into an area where service is not good and it will sound like that but I have full 5g and a good gps signal at every course I tried using this at and it never plays GPS audio correctly.
Attempted to contact Bushnell a week ago but still no response and no helpful info in a google search so hoping at least 1 person here has an idea on what I can try doing.

2024.05.13 16:54 EducatorSubstantial Allow landscape mode during phone calls?

Hi
Tldr: is there a way to allow the phone call screen to go into landscape mode?
I often use my phone as a gps/navigation on my motorcycle. I do it with the phone locked on landscape mode (my phone is mounted sideway). But if I get a call or have to pass one myself, the phone goes back to portrait mode during the call. Since I have auto rotate turned off, it then stays in portrait when it goes back to the navigation. So then I'm pretty much forced to stop to set up my phone correctly.
Is there a way to allow phone call in landscape mode? My old Samsung S9 had this option.
I've also tried to use the voice commande with Google assistant to rotate the screen but it's not able to do that apparently.
Thanks in advance

2024.05.13 16:47 bernarbernuli [TOOL] All-in-One tool for Windows. Android TV Tools v3

[TOOL] All-in-One tool for Windows. Android TV Tools v3
It's a tool for use with any Android TV device (Google TV, Nvidia Shield TV, Google Chromecast...). I have improved it keeping in mind the suggestions for new features and the bugs reported in the previous version,
The post I have uploaded it days before in Chromecast because in this subreddit the post was automatically rejected (although I'm not encouraging piracy or anything like that) and recently they have given me a solution to upload it here, so excuse the duplicity of the post for those who are members of both subreddit.

    • Lots of aesthetic improvements.

Requirements

  • Windows O.S.
  • Have the ADB drivers installed. Here is the link to download them. During installation, make sure to enable the "Add to System Path Environment" option. Here you have more information about ADB drivers. If you don't have ADB drivers installed, they are automatically downloaded and installed as soon as you open Android TV Tools.
  • Connect the TV device to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • On the TV device, go to Settings > system > About and tap "Build Number" several times until you see a message that says "you are now a developer". Then go to Settings > system > developer options and enable "USB debugging".

Considerations

  • The tool is available in English (EN) and Spanish (ES).
  • Tested on Google TV with Chromecast, please give feedback on other TV devices.
  • With Windows 10 and Windows 11 it is fully compatible and functional. Running the tool on Windows 7 or lower is partially functional, as there are some instructions that it does not interpret on older Windows.
  • To find out the IP address of the TV device, just go to Settings > Networks and Internet > "Your Wi-Fi network". Under that option, you will see the IP. It is also in Settings > System > Status.
  • You can use the tool in multitasking mode, i.e. you can for example backup TV device apps while you are applying custom configurations.

Use of Android TV Tools in offline environment

If you are going to run the tool without an internet connection, download Aux Files for Android TV Tools.rar and unzip the file in the same folder as Android TV Tools vXX.exe, as the tool makes use of several auxiliary files such as:
  • cmdmax.exe (for resizing the tool's windows).
  • ScrCpy (for viewing and controlling your TV device from your PC)
  • Universal Android Debloater (to remove bloatware)
In addition, ADB drivers are included, so there is no need to install them to use Antroid TV Tools.
Folder with Android TV Tools.exe + Aux Files

Does Android TV Tools contain Malware?

The tool is 100% clean and safe, of course it does not send any personal information to any remote server, however Antivirus software in recent times has become much more sensitive especially in the engines used in Virustotal.com so some Anti-Virus engines detect Android TV Tools as some kind of Malware I guess because it matches a certain pattern, logically to users of the tool this creates concern especially if it is detected by 39 of 72 engines as happened when launching Android TV Tools v2. The only solution is to contact each of the anti-virus companies via questionnaire or email so that they can reanalyze the file and normally in less than 48 hours you receive a response from the companies informing you that it is indeed a false positive and that they will update the engine. In the case of those 39 engines detecting some type of malware, and after countless emails they were reduced to 4 engines, I must say that these 4 Anti-Virus companies neither answer (neither for good nor for bad) nor update their engines correcting the false positive, these are DeepInstinct, Rising, SkyHigh and TrapMine. It's like hitting a wall, it's very frustrating.
Please, if Android TV Tools is detected as malware/virus by your Anti-virus software or detected by VirusTotal.com engines inform me as soon as possible, I for my part commit myself to be aware of the analysis in VirusTotal.com to avoid alerts in Anti-virus engines. Here is a link to a contact directory of VirusTotal.com antivirus engines if anyone wants to collaborate and send emails to reanalyze the tool, I would appreciate it because this issue of false positives takes a lot of my time.
  • File : Android TV Tools V3_EN.exe
  • Algorithm : MD5
  • Hash : 1884D18FA16AB3DC46EB33599D76F2B7
  • Web virustotal.com

Where to download?

- Android TV Tools v3
- Aux Files for Android TV Tools (See "Use Android TV Tools in offline environment")

Method

  1. Download and unzip in a folder the file from the "Where to download" section.
  2. Make sure you meet all the points in the "requirements" section.
  3. Locate the IP address of the TV device, as explained in the "considerations" section.
  4. Run Android TV Tools and enter the IP address.
  5. A notification will probably appear on the TV device asking "Allow USB debugging?", select "Always allow from this computer" and re-enter the IP address in the tool.
  6. In the tool, choose a function to run and follow the instructions on the screen.

To-Do

  • Improve optimization tool with more optimization tasks (any suggestions from this thread for Samsung Galaxy devices or this thread for Pixel devices?).
  • Porting code to Linux and Mac via Java or Python.
Android TV Tools
Main menu
Voice commands and more
Replace launcher, youtube and more
I share this tool for free, to code the tool as it is now having taken me quite some time, I just ask for some feedback for the one who download it and try it.
If you are going to use it, please comment what you think or what bugs you see or what new features you suggest. Any opinion is interesting.

2024.05.13 15:53 linuxgfx Help location action for CarPlay

Hi all, as i've recently moved from Android to iOS due to constant gps accuracy issues i had on Samsung phones, i am now trying to solve a problem that's related to the CarPlay integration: on Android Auto, among all entities i also had location trackers for people that are setup using device_tracker (shown as persons name); on CarPlay, i haven't seen anything like that so i suppose a new action must be created. I have created several actions that point to certain automations or scenes but i am unable to find how can i create an action or button or anything remotely close to what android auto had: click on persons name and start navigation to their last location. Has anyone done something similar on CarPlay? Thank you!

2024.05.13 15:13 White_Ring Best Fitness Trackers

According to research done by Sutter Health, a not-for-profit integrated health delivery system headquartered in Sacramento, California, fitness trackers can help you not only get in shape, but also manage chronic conditions like diabetes, or monitor your heart for optimal health.
Looking for a best fitness tracker can be overwhelming with so many options available. I've decided to make it simple for everyone by creating a list of best fitness trackers.

Best Fitness Trackers 2024:

Amazfit GTR 4:

The Amazfit GTR 4 performs far above its weight. It’s affordable at $199 and is packed with features you’d expect to find on much more expensive wearables.
The GTR 4 has all of the standard smart features, including push notifications, quick text replies on Android, alarms, timers, and the ability to make and receive calls via Bluetooth. The only thing missing from the GTR 4 is contactless payments, which it more than makes up for with its extensive feature set and battery life. It lasts about 10-14 days on a single charge with normal use, and about a week with heavy use.

Garmin Fenix 7 Pro

This fitness tracker watch comes with a serious price tag, but if you can afford it, this device will last you 22 days on a single charge thanks to its solar charging lens. If you like to work out hard under the sky, you can rest assured your device won’t die in a few days; plus, it comes with a built-in flashlight for your nightly runs, hikes, or mountain climbs. It also has SATIQ™ Technology and multi-band GPS, 24/7 health and wellness monitoring, along with performance features for serious adventure seekers. These include, but are not limited to, hill score, Climbpro tracking (for climbers), real time stamina data, grade adjusted pace metrics, and more.

Garmin Venu Sq 2:

The Garmin Venu Sq 2 is a great replacement for a Fitbit smartwatch. Not only do they look similar, but the Venu Sq 2 has way more fitness features, long battery life, and no subscription.
The $250 Garmin Venu Sq 2 is the watch I recommend for anyone looking to replace their aging Fitbit Versa 2 or 3. It’s got a similar look and vibe, with a much nicer OLED display and longer battery life.
Garmin is known for its comprehensive fitness tracking, and that’s not an exception here. Of course, you get the basics, like steps and calories burned, but you get a whole lot more, too. There’s built-in GPS for tracking walks, runs, and bike rides — as well as plenty of other sports profiles like yoga and strength training. For smart features, you get push notifications, timers, contactless payments, and a bunch of safety features like Garmin’s Incident Detection, which is its take on fall detection.

Apple Watch Series 9

The Apple Watch Series 9 features a brand-new S9 processor that enables offline Siri use, brighter displays, and the double tap gesture. It also has the second-gen ultra wideband chip for Precision Finding if you have an iPhone 15.
If you’re looking for a smartwatch that does fitness well, then iPhone owners need to look no further than the $399 Apple Watch Series 9. (The LTE version costs $50 more.) This year’s updates were pretty iterative, but the updated S9 processor makes this the smartest fitness tracker around for Apple users.

Fitbit Charge 6

Even as Fitbit has faced stiff competition from other manufacturers—most notably, the Apple Watch—its trackers have always won me over. They hit a very specific sweet spot between attractiveness, affordability, accessibility, and ease of use. They're perfect for everyone who isn't an ultra-marathoner or a semipro powerlifter trying to hit a PR.

Samsung Galaxy Watch6

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 adds Wear OS 4, longer battery life, 30 percent thinner bezels, and a new Exynos W930 chip. You can now also use temperature data for cycle tracking, get personalized heart rate zones, and custom workouts.
If you have a Samsung phone, this is the best full-featured smartwatch for fitness tracking. It (and the Watch 6 Classic) are the first watches to get Wear OS 4 and One UI 5 Watch, which adds a bunch of health and sleep tracking improvements like temperature-based cycle tracking, personalized heart rate zones, and custom workouts. It also has the same 3-in-1 sensor, which enables body composition analysis. That’s a unique feature that no other smartwatch at the moment is capable of. You can also access workout videos from the Samsung Health app — though the production values aren’t as good as Fitness Plus or Peloton.

2024.05.13 06:30 Viridola Bought and fixed a beat up Xperia, any tips?

I’ve been using iPhone for quite a while, only android phones I’ve had were a Samsung and a Sony Xperia S. Recently bought a beat up au mobile Xperia 5 for cheap and fixed it myself ($14), the only issue I seem to find is that the GPS doesn’t work properly/works poorly. It gets stationary area right but doing navigation around the expressway seems to not work, especially with android auto. I can’t find much info about the GPS on it specifically so any help would be appreciated. Other than that, I’m satisfied with how the phone works. Is there any tips as well to really get my usecase out of the phone?

2024.05.12 03:15 Prequel_Memes66 Samsung Health Running Accuracy

I recently bought a Galaxy Watch 4. I used the running feature with Samsung Health to track my runs with GPS and time. I recently ran and measured both on my Watch and with MapMyRun app on my phone (both being on the same hand), and I consistently get different results. After about ~2 miles my watch will say 1.94 miles and my phone will say 2.01 miles. Do we know which is more accurate? It's worth noting the watch isn't paired with LTE, I do not have a plan set up, but I don't know if it's GPS is independent or if it pings off the phone. Does anyone know how accurate the running feature is, might the watch be more accurate or my phone?

2024.05.11 17:44 JDanzy GW3/Galaxy Phone/offbrand .mp3 player Samsung Health Bluetooth question: Can This Be Done?

I have a Galaxy S21, a Galaxy Watch 3, an .mp3 player (for offline music playing---no SD storage on the phone and I canceled my Spotify subscription along with a lot of streaming services to save on monthly expenses) and a pair of multipoint Bluetooth earbuds.
I use the .mp3 player when I work out, especially walking running or cycling. It has WiFi but no GPS capability and it's not Samsung branded so I can't install Health on it so I have my watch paired with my phone and the earbuds paired with my phone and the .mp3 player----I've been able to play music from the .mp3 player then run a YouTube video or something on my phone and have the audio from that override the music from the player.
Tne thing that's not working is I'm not getting the Audio Guide updates from Health when I'm working out. Not a huge deal with running or hiking but can't look at my watch when I'm cycling.
I guess I could get enough .mp3s onto my phone and cut out the .mp3 player altogether but I'd rather not if at all possible. Is there a way to mess with settings in the watch, phone or maybe even the .mp3 player to get this setup to work?

2024.05.10 18:55 divineiniquity Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link CBT2 Review

Hi all,
Just wanted to share my thoughts from the latest CBT2 which just finished. I'll be honest, given the lack of enthusiasm I see in this sub for Square Enix gachas, and my forgettable experience of Union Cross in the past, I wasn't particularly that engaged with this game - and frankly, I was in fact quite bored with it after the first couple of days. I'll share what I remember to help give everyone some information to gauge their expectations for when the full game is released.
TL;DR - combat is boring and the GPS gameplay kills it for me.

Combat

Combat is pretty plain and boring - tap the screen to unleash a fixed melee combo (you float and home in to the enemy from a pretty far distance compared to the console games), you can have up to 4 abilities equipped which you tap to use (for a mana cost) and they run on a cooldown, and you can swipe to dodge (aerial dodge is also possible).
For the core gameplay loop you are pretty much mindlessly tapping the screen and casting an ability on cooldown if needed. Single enemies can often be stunlocked just like in the console games, and they mostly just feel like HP sponges. Bosses will require more attention, but they often have super armour (they won't be knocked back by your attacks) and you can't parry. Dodging doesn't seem to give i-frames so you basically have to role out of the way before getting hit. There is a jump button which doesn't really help with anything except with aerial recovery when you get hit. Auto combat is possible, but auto-mode will also spam all your abilities and could drain all your mana. I think there were settings you can change to tell auto-combat to not use abilities.

Graphics

GPS Mode Gameplay

Okay, let's get the elephant in the room out of the way. The game (in its present state) still relies heavily on GPS for its core gameplay loop (screenshots on the main website are accurate). There are a few activities you can do on the GPS map:
All of this can be done with no resource/stamina cost. I expect the first heartless battles are all instanced (so they would appear for each player) but I'm not sure whether the Piece and Raid battles are shared instance or not. There are items (like Pokemon lures) which allow you to spawn heartless enemies near you without having to move to a new area).
I was on holiday and playing this game on high-speed trains travelling over 150Km/h but was still able to tap on enemies and whatever was closeby with no issues. There are daily achievements for taking a certain number of steps, which didn't count at the speed I was travelling but those rewards weren't great. Since there are no "eggs" to hatch, public transport commuting might not be a bad way to play this game should you choose to do so.

Touch Mode Gameplay

In short, you can do ALL of the above in this mode but without using GPS. Touch mode allows you to basically move your character across the real world map and engage with the above activities, but each activity requires AP. AP can be gained from heartless battles (+4 AP I think from generic mobs - you can find about 5-6 encounters in any one area you load into, and more AP from say the boss and area boss battles) as well as from daily rewards (a couple of hundred a day or so) and one-time achievements. Here are the costs as I remember them:
Piece battles are the most important here and you're going to need to farm a lot of these. So if you aren't actively walking over to the GPS co-ordinates, you'll need to fight 200 mobs of heartless (with GPS turned on) to gain enough AP to fight one piece battle without GPS on. However, I'm not sure if you get your AP refunded or not if you fail to defeat the enemy within 30 seconds (I guess I should have tested this, but building up an AP bank was slow and tedious). The numbers from the beta make it feel like there's almost no point playing without GPS but since you can stack AP with no limit I suppose one could farm enough to play from home for some time perhaps? Still, there IS a way to play (legitimately) without GPS. I guess the main benefit is that it lets you preview and reach further away places (for a specific piece you want) without needing to be closeby.
So the gameplay loop to me appears to be:
You can also drop teleport points down to use, but they also cost AP to use with the cost increasing the further you are away from a teleport point.
You can also toggle a "touch-free" and "screen-lock" setting. The screen lock setting just keeps your screen black whilst having the game running, and the touch-free setting allows for auto-encounter and auto-combat. Not sure if it includes auto-healing as well. So you can open the app, turn on touch-free and just walk whilst letting the game play itself, but this is a huge drain on your phone battery just to play a game that you're not even directly interacting with.

Gacha and Pieces

I'm sorry it took so long to explain what pieces are, but it made sense to me to talk about the combat and GPS gameplay first. Pieces are basically a Disney/KH/FF? character which gives you 1 active ability, 2 passive abilities and some stats which you equip onto your keyblade. You can equip up to 4 at a time. Pieces are available between 1-3 stars, with 3 star ones obviously being way more powerful and only available from gacha.
Free pieces (even select 3-star ones say during an event) can be farmed for in the wild via the piece battles. I'm guessing the free 3-star ones will be weaker than the gacha-only ones; can't say for certain since I never played enough to get one to compare. Pieces can be limit-broken using duplicates (after the first copy) for additional stats. Levelling them with materials increases their stats, and fighting with them equipped increases their passive ability levels. Active abilities require some other resource to level up and it doesn't seem to be common.
Gacha summary:
No pity hurts. They had both a "guaranteed featured 3-star" banner and a "guaranteed 3-star" banner (note the difference being about featured/rate-up pieces) - we got free pulls for this in the beta and I don't know how these will be priced when the game is released.
The King Mickey 3-star piece has an active ability which is massive damage in a very large AoE which allowed me to one-shot entire generic heartless mobs so I was able to farm AP quickly but I was limited by how far I could physically move on the map to spawn more enemies.
Not sure how keyblades work in this game - you can level them up to increase stats, and equip up to 4 pieces into a keyblade. We were given only 2 keyblades (one tailored for physical abilities and one for magic) but it wasn't clear how they were going to integrate other keyblades into the game.
Oh and there is an elemental strength/weakness system featuring 6 different elements. Physical composite damage seems to be outside of this system. Not sure how important that is for the late game.

Notable Features I Enjoyed

Sorry this post ended up being longer than I anticipated. I also apologise for any misinformation here - I wasn't particularly engaged with the game when I realised it was GPS-based but other beta-testers please let me know if I've gotten something wrong. The non-GPS mode was interesting but the numbers are too imbalanced to make it a mode worth using. Sadly without a GPS-spoofer I don't see any real way of wanting to engage with the game. And even when you do you'll be hunting for 3-star pieces (however rare they are) which are likely to pale in power compared to the gacha ones.

2024.05.10 05:23 seemebreakthis Switched to Oneplus Watch 2 from a fitness watch

About 3 years on Fitbit, and 3 more years on Garmin. Naturally the first thing for me was to see if the main features of these fitness watches can be retained on this very first Wear OS smartwatch that I have just purchased.
  1. Comparison to Fitbit / Garmin
Activity Tracking -
On the first few days I tried a bunch of different options - Strava, Google Fit, even more peculiar choices like Ghostracer, GPS Navigation, Wear OS Fix etc etc. At the end I stick with OHealth which actually does a decent job of tracking activities, with stats that I didn't even see from Fitbit (Ionic) / Garmin (Venu 2): Running Form, GCT Balance, Energy Recovery Time, Heart Rate Recovery, Running Power - all being pretty useful stats. You can also define your own activity type to track (for instance I created "stair climbing") and the parameters you want to include for that activity (e.g. elevation gain). So I feel I am not losing much with OHealth, and I ended up deleting all the other options like Google Fit.
Note that some of the apps I tried couldn't get any GPS fix when the watch is in 'offline' mode (i.e. not connected to anything via wifi or bluetooth).
Also Garmin has a 'coaching' function where it trains you to become a better runner for instance. This is missing in OHealth for anyone who uses that.
Health Tracking -
Again OHealth surprisingly does a pretty good job of collecting, analyzing and displaying the health data. I feel it is better than Fitbit on the types to data it collects (many Fitbit features are hidden behind a paywall) and better than Garmin on data presentation. A glaring missing piece of information though is 'floors climbed' tracking and daily goal setting. Sleep Tracking seems great (with Garmin I stopped using sleep tracking altogether mainly because of how poorly and confusing the data was presented), with things that you'd expect like sleep apnea analysis, SpO2, sleep stage breakdown, sleep score, heart rate average, etc etc.
Water Intake Tracking -
Done with a 3rd party app that I installed: Water Minder. But it is leaps and bounds better than water tracking on Fitbit and Garmin. Fitbit water tracking was so buggy to the point of not being usable, and Garmin also had some serious sync issues with water tracking that a sometimes input data was lost. No such problem with Oneplus and Water Minder.
Route Importing and Following -
The feature is non-existent on Fitbit watches, but on my Garmin watch I frequently used this feature to import routes to the watch so I can follow the path while hiking and not get lost. The closest thing I could find that works on Oneplus Watch 2 is an app called "GPS Navigation PRO" that cost ~$2.5USD, which allows you to download and display a route offline, but tracking is limited to a blue dot displaying your current position and there is no guide to remind you to stay on track. Also I suspect battery drain from this app will be an issue.
Notifications -
No comparison. Oneplus wins hands down in this category. With Fitbit or Garmin you face issues with notifications sometimes not reaching your watch at all, and (in the case of Fitbit) there is actually a limit on the number of notifications displayed. The way the notifications were presented was also quite awkward especially on Garmin, where they are seemingly not sorted in any particular order, and you don't really know which app each notification belongs to. I was very delighted by the reliability, consistency, and how each notification clearly shows the app associated, plus pictures inside notifications are also fetched to the watch ! Pretty amazing.
Offline Music / Streaming Services -
Was using my fitbit for offline music (last I heard they dropped support for that, leaving just Deezer and Pandora that will let you play music on the fitbit when not connected to a phone). With Garmin the picture is a little less bleak - there is support for Spotify offline, and you can download you own stuff to the Garmin to listen to while you run too. Oneplus is way better in this category - All major players seem to be supported (Spotify, Youtube Music, etc), and sound quality is great, albeit with volume limitation that luckily you can bypass after a warning screen. And depending on the app used, you can even use the watch's built in speaker to play your music.
Battery life -
On the first couple of days of trying a lot of new stuff and doing a lot of downloading, the watch needed charging every night. But now I can charge once every 3 days, and that's with SpO2 monitoring on during sleep. To me that's not too big of an issue.
  1. Usefulness of "Smart" features not offered by Fitbit / Garmin
I wasn't really sure if I needed these "smart" features, but after a few days I doubt I will ever go back to any watch that doesn't offer these things.
Whatsapp - ... what? A fully functional whatsapp on my watch, where you can reply not just with canned messages but typing whatever you want, or even voice message? And seeing not just text but pictures and videos too? It has proven to be very useful while on the road, and now I don't even have to reach for the phone to read and reply to messages.
Microsoft Outlook - a godsend to be able to read new messages in full right from your watch, and reply too, plus a detailed look on your daily schedule.
Bite-Sized Games - yes finally some very playable games on my watch. I have three installed so far - Cosmo Run, Infinity Loop, and PetQuest (need sideloading as it is not longer on play store), all very good time killers.
Video Streaming - maybe not too practical, but it can actually be done ! I sideloaded the Samsung browser, and was pleasantly surprised that it could connect to my Jellyfin server, and with Jellyfin's transcoding capability, streaming of my IPTV is very smooth... Plus it looks cool to be able to watch TV and videos on your watch.
Other useful tools - home assistant, google map, rss news reader, and scores widget. All very useful and eliminates the need for you to pull out your phone.
"Dumb" mode - with Oneplus Watch 2's unique ability to put the watch on "dumb" mode to preserve battery, just what features remain you ask? Here is a comprehensive list: phone calls on watch, activity tracking, sleep tracking, stress score measurement, SpO2 measurement, Heart rate, Weather, Alarm, Timer, Stopwatch, Compass, Flashlight, Media Controller (for your phone), and Notifications.
  1. My final verdict
Very good buy. Even though I have never used other WearOS device before, I still think the Oneplus Watch 2 is a must have, and I will personally never go back to a Fitbit or Garmin, or any other fitness watch brand. Smartwatch is the way to go.

2024.05.10 01:18 bluemaciz Best smartwatch for mom?

I’ll keep it short, but I am looking for a smartwatch for my 81 yr old mom who lives alone. I am trying to find one that can detect irregular heart beats, a fall/emergency, and has gps tracking, with the importance of those features in that order. Has anyone ever gotten something like this for their parent? Was it easy for them to use? Are there brands other than Apple, Fitbit, Garmin, or Samsung that would be viable?
