Review with pics! Library of Slime/Pink Sugar Slimey/Oh my Slime/Lime Slime co.
Today a look at four slime stores. Let's go!

The Library of Slime
https://preview.redd.it/ben8h6qut93d1.jpg?width=2769&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b183e6946cb0f465ddd29bd309821ae1527c472d
A wide range of prices from £4-12 depending on size and they also do bundles. The sizes range from 2-6oz. Beautifully designed waterproof labels.
The box was very well packaged with foam peanuts to protect the contents and the utterly stunning glass slime jars had nice honeycomb cardboard protectors around them. Even the charms were beautifully packaged with one being in a little canvas bag. Included was a mini lemon hand towelette (what a great touch!) a card telling me my packaging is eco friendly (lovely to know) and a cute bookmark care card with a super sweet note on it.
Upon unpacking, I found that Eliora (the head librarian 😁) had including an incredibly thoughtful gift in the way of delicious, high quality chocolate from a little company that shares my name! In the note it was mentioned that this was especially ordered just for me on account of being the first international customer 🥲 I was so deeply touched by this! It says a lot about the customer service and just how much care is put into customer satisfaction and enjoyment.
The library/book aesthetic of the entire web-store and the slimes/jars is just spectacular. I have so much appreciation for slime stores who clearly put so much thought and love into everything they do, it really is a magical experience. One thing I love about slime is how it affords us the ability to turn our thoughts off and indulge in something that taps straight into our primal pleasure center, allowing us to leave the stresses and responsibilities of the world for a while. The library theme and how beautifully it’s all pulled off ramps that experience up for me. All I’ve done so far is open the box and I already feel like I’ve taken a trip to a whimsical bookstore in some Harry Potter-esq universe! 😆 I think they may also be the only slime store to use glass jars which makes them feel very high end.

  • ARRAKIS (Sandfizz and coated clea scent: Usul's Awakening - Essential oil blend of cinnamon, clove, and fossilized amber)
The scent is beautiful with all the stated notes being apparent, reminding me of Christmas. I think it’s very special that these slimes are created with real essential oil! They aren’t cheap and you can really tell quite obviousy by the quality of the scent. The little book charm is so cute and a lovely touch!
I was worried I may have a struggle getting this slime out the jar but it slipped out into my hand nice and politely. It was a tiny bit sticky at first but a couple of puffs of activator sorted that out completely. The slime was very dense and super stretchy. It was very resistant but also very elastic and bouncy with no ripping. As you stretched you could feel the sand brush across your fingers but there was very little in the way of sand fallout. This has some unreal crackly sizzles when you inflate and then squeeze it. The crackles just keep coming and coming the more you squeeze. It does inflate a lot calling for a second jar for the excess.
The packaging is stunning and, equally, so is the slime!

  • FOURTH PLANET POTATOES (Thick and glossy with clay/scent: wax coated potatoes Martian Soil - Essential oil blend of ginger, orange, and pinyon pine)
Another beautiful, ultra classy scent. Again with all the notes mentioned coming through. The little pot of potatoes, rocks and soil is hilarious! The potatoes are insanely realistic and fun to squish! I thought they would be a bit dry on account of their size but they weren’t at all, they melted straight in to the base. An ultra thick, medium gloss slime which is perfectly activated. It has a super resistance and miles of stretch. It makes tons of huge, loud, deep pops and a ton of snaps and crackles. It inflated a lot and needed a new container. It is quite tricky getting slime back into the glass jars.
These look like real potatoes, they're utterly uncanny!!

  • GOLDEN CHOCOLATE EGG (glossy/snappy, rich chocolate scented.
This was plastic sealed, which is always a great idea to keep moisture in. The chocolate scent is really not a bad effort (chocolate is tricky) but a tiny tad perfumed and artificial. Strangely enough I was getting a slight hint of orange chocolate from it. It looks beautiful with its lovely rich shade and little pieces of gold leaf sparkling throughout. The label is incredible too! This slime is ultra glossy, jiggly, super stretchy and clicky. The more you play the thinner and jigglier it becomes. It has tons of snaps and crackles and some sharp bubble pops. I had a little trouble with tiny pieces sticking to my hands and did come at it with activator a few times. It was quite a tacky one to play with but not at all prohibitively so.
https://preview.redd.it/yi940tvgv93d1.jpg?width=5854&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=965de6ae379ae8e06ed4e26f5dea98d5798e9a1f
Every slimer has to try the Library of Slime at some point as it’s such a special and surreal experience! The essential oil scents were some of the classiest and most nuanced I have experienced, the textures are super entertaining, interesting and well made. I absolutely adored the clay potatoes which were mind bendingly realistic! The mini book charms are an amazing touch. This store really blurs the lines between art and sensory product.
I have a love/hate relationship with the glass jars. On one hand they are very beautiful and make the product feel so special, it wasn’t hard to get the slime out of them in the least. On the other it is harder to get the slime back in the jar. I was having issues with air pockets and the narrower mouths. Of course it inflated a fair bit so usually I just put them in new jars of my own but I loved the aesthetic of the library jars and really wanted to get some slime back in there. I very tied because I wouldn’t want the library to swap to plastic but the glass does make things tricky.
All in all I can’t wait to see what's in the next restock and had SO much fun visiting the library's beautiful and profoundly whimsical little world! We are always seeking for a new and novel experience when it comes to slime and this provides just that! 9.9/10

Pink Sugar Slimey
£11-13 for 7oz. Came very well packaged in super cute pink heart and white foam chips. Included is little organza bag with care card, activator and delicious lychee hard candy. The labels are not waterproof.

  • HORCHATA CREAM (T&G, scent: horchata- cinnamon rice milk)
The scent is incredible. Very creamy with a waft of beautiful warm cinnamon. A chewy, stretchy slime full of clicks, crackles and loud pops. It was low resistance and on the loose/sticky side and I had trouble thickening it up with activator.
https://preview.redd.it/v1x6s4ggw93d1.jpg?width=5524&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=94d20a125bdf99c94293e371f48745800fe90ede

  • TRES LECHE (snow softie + 2oz clear, scent: tres leches cake - vanilla sponge cake soaked in milk, heavy cream & condensed milk, topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon)
A beautiful, scent with notes of cream, vanilla and cake. I got excited and completely missed the 2oz of clear topper at first. My apologies! Incidentally the base was very lovely without it. Very fluffy, a little jiggly and inflating with lots of resistance. I added the topper after playing with the base. The topper also smells incredible, like a creamy milk and made a huge difference to the finished texture. It activated the snow and made it puff up and inflate much more. This was the loveliest puffy snow creme and had a ton of soft crackly sizzles.
Before and after the topper.

  • ESQUITES (thick & glossy semi floam, scent: buttered popcorn)
The scent is SUPER buttery! It really does smell absolutely and ridiculously delicious and so much like hot, buttered popcorn it’s crazy! This is again super clicky, stretchy and full of pops and crackles, but I find the base a little bit loose and sticky again with very low resistance.
https://preview.redd.it/t98oxf8xw93d1.jpg?width=7915&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b10f21ae5ddea6ba1cb74ea5fb6326082b4e0b2a

  • PAN DULCE DOUGH (wood glue clay, scent: pan dulce/sweet bread)
The scent is just like bread dough with a little sweetness. Stretchy and moist with clicks that get louder the more you inflate. This is lovely and plush and very inflatable with a firm jiggle, soft and medium bubble pops and lots of snaps and crackles. Great soft sizzles when you deflate. As you play, it gets a lot looser and fairly tacky.
https://preview.redd.it/hzdan803x93d1.jpg?width=5638&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=db465d9d61dac25fc9b7d01d026dac86736d5a88

  • FLAN SOUFFLÉ (wood glue slay + 1oz clear, scent: flan)
Another fantastic scent with notes of rich caramel. An ultra stretchy, moist and jiggly slay which has a ton of bubble pops, big air bubbles, snaps and crackles, plus very loud clicks. Again a loose texture which is tricky to activate futher.
https://preview.redd.it/ewdm2mv4x93d1.jpg?width=8288&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0761c38c0cfc7a00d67c92bc46dca6ba32d75806
These are some of the most incredible and utterly delicious scents I have come across on my slime spree, they go so well with the themes which are all so well thought out. Clearly, a lot of love and attention go into these slimes.
Personally I found them to be a little on the loose side and a bit tricky to activate. It can be hard to ascertain whether this is by design or due to the warmer weather now we have hit the summer months. I always go for the fastest international shipping to minimise issues with melting and the slimes go in the fridge for 15-30 minutes prior to play. I am very much on board with Momo, Pilot, OG and others who slightly overactive their slime to avoid this. While I enjoy the odd jiggly slay, I prefer my slimes to be on the more holdable side so this is something I will keep in mind in future with Pink Sugar.
Nonetheless these scents were spectacular and the thicker textures lovely! Waterproof labels would be a strong preference of mine, I did manage to get slime on one or two of these labels while photographing and that is always a real shame. 9.1/10
......

Oh My Slime (Singapore)
Came with borax, a care card and a couple of candies. Slimes come in 6 or 8oz for between around $10-14. The jars have anti leak inner caps which is a great shout. I hate opening the box to discover slime leaks and this keeps things so much tidier! The labels are nicely designed and waterproof.

  • TURKISH DELIGHT (juice jelly, scent: Turkish Delight)
The scent is very subtle but a super pleasant sweet rose Turkish delight. This slime was very sticky and under-activated. Unfortunately, I couldn’t really get it to activate and it remained so. This is a shame as it looked like it would be quite lovely and I adore rose flavoured Turkish delight.
https://preview.redd.it/ls76r151y93d1.jpg?width=5701&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a3c6b86cd9ca7d7dddcf0cb175856a71535c7cd7

  • OLIVE OIL (thick water, scent: tea-light)
This slime had a very pleasant subtle tea sent that I found very fresh. This was a fantastic water slime on the thicker side that was well activated and left very little in the way of residue on my play surface, less so than Momo’s. It was jiggly and fun and made excellent bubbles. I thought the whole theme and concept was super cute and well done. This is one of my favourite water slimes to date!
https://preview.redd.it/y9n2nia8y93d1.jpg?width=1348&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=69c8470ea11d9e386050a390051eb708d169d2e6

  • MAYONNAISE (T&G, scent: Yakult)
This had a pleasant mild Yakult scent but sadly had completely deactivated so I didn't proceed.

  • TOOTHPASTE - Colgate (t&g, scent: fresh minty toothpaste)
The scent is a lovely sweet mint. Frustratingly this slime had also turned to glue.
https://preview.redd.it/vuwropjey93d1.jpg?width=3995&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e051a6329f56a23db7349421b3978c689bc54a1a

  • GREEN TEA (gummy, scent: green tea)
The scent is very pleasant with a hint of sweet green tea. However, in a frustrating and somewhat comedic twist of fate, it is pretty drastically over-activated and extremely rubbery and unyielding 😅 I would of course take this over drastically under-activated any day but this is all the way rubber. In fairness I don’t tend to stretch milky jelly textures so much as poke and fold for mega pops. It has big squelchy pokes and makes big, loud, snappy bubbles pops on account of being so firm and thick.
https://preview.redd.it/wdhxrcoly93d1.jpg?width=5937&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5952870a91b47b249631fe7353859df8b24ed2c
This was a pretty disappointing experience, more so than anything because the themes were great, the charms gorgeous, the colours and scents really beautiful and I could tell the textures were well made and at some point gorgeous. It would have been less disappointing if the quality of the slimes was low and the scents/aesthetics mediocre. I would have understood if all the slimes were all the way in one direction or the other activation-wise but it was super weird to get one perfect slime (water slime no less, a typically temperamental texture) and the rest either totally deactivated or wildly over-activated to the point of being unstretchable.
In light of this I am really scratching my head over giving Oh My Slime a rating that fairly represents their concoctions. I just got done reactivating slimes that arrived with me in a liquid state and it took a good 12 hours for them to settle into the consistency I like. Personally hate touching totally melted slime, it really gives me the ick which is amongst the many reasons why I have no wish to make my own slime. I keep my slime in a chiller so this is not typically an issue I commonly have as I go in with activator long before they turn back to glue. I would reactivate some of my favourites if they melted down slightly over time but I just lost heart for these sadly.
I hear from a friend that their slays and clays are much better. On this occasion 6/10 on account of the great water slime and all the other redeemable factors such as jars/designs/excellent scents but I only had one slime I could play with out of the whole batch so I don’t think I will return with any enthisiasm. MAYBE for another thick water slime.
............

Lime Slimes Company
Comes with care card and Borax. Waterproof labels with a lovely aesthetic. The jars are 8oz and priced from £12.15 to £15.39. Link to my previous review here.

  • WAY TO LIMEVILLE (DIY clay/snowfizz, lemon lime pound cake scented)
The scent is a lovely, sweet and creamy lime. The clay was nice, soft and moist and fun to squish. The base had melted quite badly and was extremely sticky and I had to add a great deal of activator to get it handleable again. It had sat around for a week after I received it via fast international shipping. During this period, it was kept in an air conditioned room and had been in the fridge for 15-20 minutes before play. I was able to bring it back to a handleable consistency, but it remained tacky. This is the reason why I really appreciate companies such as Pilot, Momo, and Slime Japan sending their slimes slightly over activated.
Other than the tackiness, it was a nice and puffy, inflatable snow fizz with plenty of soft sizzles, soft finger, pokes, and soft pops.
https://preview.redd.it/4vrlogvrz93d1.jpg?width=5827&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=95baa8b8379cf8b040c355770b4dbfe4203fbe74

  • WHIPPED TIRAMEWSU FOAM (whipped foam texture, tiramisu scented with notes of ladies fingers biscuits, espresso coffee and cocoa powder)
All the notes of the scent mentioned come through but I find it a lit thin and lacking in richness. I love the tiramisu aesthetic with the brown “cocoa powder” which you dust on top of the slime. This was also under-activated and loose but less sticky, I ended up losing an entire pen’s worth of activator between this and the previous slime. Though the texture became a lot more handleable, it remains to have some tackiness. This was a puffy and jiggly texture with medium clicks that get louder as it inflates and soft/medium bubble pops. The resistance on the pulls is low and I can’t tell how much of that is by design and how much of that is because of the melting issue
https://preview.redd.it/tyheh3pa0a3d1.jpg?width=5560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=87659a72e8f63e05f8a3f80c8de8b891d2cc0267

  • OUI STRAWBERRY WHOLE MILK FRENCH STYLE YOGHURT (T&G strawberry yoghurt scented)
A really beautiful sweet strawberry yoghurt scent with a hint of tartness. Frustratingly this had also melted and was the worst of the bunch, it was pretty much just glue. I was able to get this playable again but it took about 12 hours and some frustration. I had to add a lot of activator but this took it to a stage where it was both still sticky and rippy so I let it rest over night. The next day, with a little more working, it was closer to the intended texture (going off the Oui from my last order) but not quite perfect. Incidentally my other Oui which is a month old is still perfect and didn’t arrive melted (it is kept in a chiller at 50f.)
I don’t much like judging a slime that I have reconstituted nearly from scratch as it’s hard to know if it’s as the creator intended. That having been said, it is a very nice, creamy thickie with medium gloss. Lovely to pop and full of crackles. It has tiny bits of red flocking in it for a very pretty strawberry pulp effect.
Top left is how it arrived. Top right is where I managed to get it to with activator (still sticky by rippy.) Bottom left is after it rested overnight. Much better but still not quite as great as my previous Oui which I bought a month ago (an up to date picture of that on the bottom right.)
I am so tied over Lime Slimes. I love their scents and themes and when they are good they are great. However, this is not the first completely liquified slime I have received from them and it very much spoils the experience for me. Reading your reviews on this sub I see that I am not alone in having this issue with them but it seems to be quite hit and miss.
I know they come from California so I would hazard a guess that the issue happens during shipping due to the heat, I doubt these left them in this condition. I always pay for the fastest international shipping to prevent this issue occurring and most slimes arrive with me in 2-4 days. The only completely melted US slimes I have received have been from Lime Slimes, I’ve never had anything more than a slightly tacky surface that calls for a squirt of activator from other US companies. Once again, I can only reiterate how much I appreciate it when a slime leaves a store a little over-activated!
I hate rating slimes which are melted as it’s not really a representation of what the creator intended. I do love Lime's Oui line when not melted and may chance buying another one if a particularly interesting scent is released when mine dies but, ultimately, I won’t be returning to Lime Slimes Co. with any gusto, which is a real shame. I really feel drawn to them as I really love the themes, presentation, aesthetic and scents generally. However, it’s a very important factor to me that I receive my slimes in a play-ready condition as I hate having to reactivate them (to a texture that may not be quite right) and the feeling of sticky mess on my hands 6.5/10
.........
Thank you for reading! I'll be back soon to review Audeez and more Mythical Mushbunny, Rodem and Momo! Feel free to give me a follow so you don't miss the review 🩵😊

2024.05.29 00:01 notsurewhyiamheretbh $56K Budget Breakdown - 90 person Wedding @ Log Cabin (San Francisco, Presidio)

Hi there! We just wrapped up our wedding last weekend and I found this community super helpful when I was researching and planning my own wedding. I'm sharing this breakdown in hopes that I can give back to the group via some information sharing! I'm modeling this post after another super helpful budget breakdown post I saw a few weeks ago. Feel free to AMA in the comments - though I'm heading out on our honeymoon in two days and may be slow to reply while we're gone! :)

What is NOT included in the breakdown:

Engagement ring, wedding bands, honeymoon, bachelor & bachelorette parties. And the following things were covered by our parents as a gift: rehearsal dinner ($700 + tip for 30 people at Peking Restaurant), hotel stay (~$500 for 2 nights at Infinity Hotel), after party (~$300 + tip for 25 people at Campus Bar in the Marina)

The breakdown:

Expense Cost Vendor Notes
All-Inclusive Elite Package for 90 guests $31,353.77 Wedgewood Weddings Included Ceremony + Reception Venue Booking, Invitations, Cake Cutting Set, DJ, Catering, Set Up/Breakdown, Open Bar, Linens, Table Settings, Cake, Floral Centerpieces, Sweetheart Table Florals, plus bonus decor they provided (votives, easels, table stands)
Additional Florals (Centerpieces & Sweetheart Table included in above line item) $2,865.15 Angella Floral Design (WW Vendor) Arch Florals, 1 large Bride Bouquet, 6 Bridesmaid Bouquets, Aisle Petals, Large Welcome Table Floral, Floral arrangement for base of sign
Bistro Lights and Draping $3,310.00 Brown A/V (WW Vendor)
Photo & Video $4,000.00 Gala Photo & Films 8 hours of photo and video, We had two photographers & 1 videographer. Includes a 3-5 min highlight reel, 30-45 min documentary style video, 500-700 edited photos, and an engagement shoot. Marc and Gia were amazing through this entire process, and I 100% recommend their team.
Save the Dates $40.00 Canva + USPS
Boba Cart $1,308.00 Boba Passion Two hours of boba bar serving time (fully staffed) and a really cute boba bar cart. Sharlene and Lowell were so sweet to work with, and had a really great tasting process so that I could build my boba menu. This was a huge hit with the guests!
Misc Decor $678.08 Etsy & Amazon Match Bottle Favors, Seating Chart, Guest Book, Card Box, Flower Girl Baskets, Dried Florals for Table Setting, Welcome Mirror, Blankets for Guests
Donuts & Egg Tarts $302 Dynamo Donuts & AA Bakery Cake was included in our package, but we also ordered donuts for our vegan guests and egg tarts for our older Chinese guests. We ordered for pick up and had a family member pick up & drop off to the venue. The venue graciously provided dessert table decor (stands, donut wall holder)
Suit $3,000 Tailor's Keep My partner really wanted to splurge on his suit, especially because he works in finance and will have plenty of opportunities to rewear it. He got a fully custom-made suit + shirt made by the SF location of Tailor's Keep and absolutely loved the process. Definitely a splurge though!
Wedding Dress $1,400 Blue Sky Bridal A beautiful secondhand Louvienne Theo dress (it had pockets!) which originally retailed for close to $3K. Highly recommend Blue Sky Bridal for an amazing selection of secondhand and sample (basically new!) dresses. It was great to be able to shop "second hand" and still have a boutique-like shopping experience. All of the dresses are in amazing condition and well-taken care of.
Dress Alterations $589.23 Le Caprice I had my dress hemmed (had a few layers), buttons added down the back, bust adjusted to fit better, straps shortened, added a bustle, and cups put in. They also pressed my dress before pick up.
Cathedral Veil $327.38 Le Caprice I ordered a cheap one off of Azazie and absolutely hated how it looked/laid, so splurged for a nicer one from Le Caprice. If I had to do it again, I probably would've spent more time looking for a more affordable veil.
Hair & Make Up (Bride) $680 Joyce Zhou Designs Joyce was super sweet and knew exactly how to work with my Asian features. My hair held through 16MPH SF winds the day of the ceremony, which I was so grateful for! This also included a 15 minute hair & make up session for the groom.
Hair & Make Up (Trial) $380 Joyce Zhou Designs
Hair & Make Up (Partial for Bridesmaids & Family) $1,370 Joyce Zhou Designs It was $230 for both hair & make up per bridesmaid, and $130 if you only did one service. We covered the full cost for our family members and $130 per bridesmaid. This total includes the full cost of single service for MOG & Best Person ($130 each), full cost of hair and make up for MOB and MOH ($230 each), and then 5 additional bridesmaids. They did services for 9 people, plus myself and my partner.
Groomsmen Suits $1,500 SuitSupply We contributed $500 per groomsmen for them to buy a custom suit from SuitSupply. The suits turned out great and now all of our groomsmen have something they can rewear in the future!
Bridesmaid Dresses $643.13 Azazie I let my bridesmaids choose the style of their dresses, and then waited for a Black Friday sale to order them. We covered the cost of the dresses.
Lion Dancers $700 Leung's White Crane Association We paid $700 which included 2 lions for a 15-20 minute performance that included benches + scrolls.
String Quartet $1,170 SF Conservatory of Music Hands down one of the best last minute decisions we made. The guests loved it, it made the ceremony music extra special, and it didn't cost and arm & a leg since we went through the SFCM. Someone on this Reddit thread suggested them and I could not be more grateful!
Tips $990 - There was a 22% service charge included with our WW bill, but we felt that many of our vendors went above and beyond so we tipped them. We gave $150 to our DJ, $100 to our coordinator, $350 to our photo/video team, and I can't remember the exact dollar amounts but also tipped 4 servers, a banquet captain, hair & make up, and the string quartet.

Wedgewood Experience

We went back and forth when booking our venue because we had heard really mixed reviews about Wedgewood Weddings. At the end of the day, my partner and I didn't have a strong preference regarding our vendors and our top priority was to have a stress-free and painless wedding planning process. Since we didn't have a "vision" for the big day, Wedgewood was absolutely perfect for us. Their planning process is well structured, organized, and saved us the headache of having to vet, source, and coordinate with our own vendors. And, because they turn over weddings on a regular basis there were so many things that they provided that we didn't need to purchase because they just have on hand for each wedding. For example, they had a cake stand, ceremony arch (those are expensive to rent!), easels for our signs, table numbers (we opted to use our own) and table number holders.
We did the Elite package (the top tier) which included almost everything we needed for the day, and then worked with our Wedgewood coordinators to make actual selections regarding menu, design/decor, and all of that fun stuff. All of the vendors we booked through Wedgewood were amazing (DJ, florist, cake, open bar, etc.) and we got really great feedback on the food as well which was probably the strongest unknown for us (we did a buffet with salads, rice pilaf, panko chicken, five cheese tortellini, and a prime rib carving station).
The coordinator was also able to handle a lot of other things the day of like tip distribution, setting up all of our personal decor, managing our timeline, and even coordinated with a few of our outside vendors (lion dancers, boba bar, photo/video, and string quartet). Their services were so comprehensive we absolutely didn't need any outside coordination services. Our day of coordinator was AMAZING and I really appreciated how on top of things he was. We had a snafu where our lion dancers were double booked (!) and 40 minutes late to our grand entrance, and our coordinator finessed our timeline and worked with the DJ to make sure the switch up was seamless. The guests didn't notice that anything had gone wrong, and it was so nice that we didn't have to worry about it ourselves.
Re: The Log Cabin specifically - We thought the venue was the perfect size for a wedding of 90 people or smaller. It was perfectly warm, cozy and intimate which is what we wanted. The outdoor ceremony area has an amazing peekaboo view of the Golden Gate Bridge, and Karl the Fog cooperated so that we could have the perfect backdrop to our ceremony. I know when I was reviewing venues, one of the concerns someone else had raised about The Log Cabin was that it is just over the freeway (where cars enter the GGB) and that there's a softball field nearby that makes parking difficult. We didn't have issues with either -- no one even noticed that the freeway was there, and the A/V system made it so it wasn't an issue even if there was any freeway noise. Our package included a parking lot buy out so parking was a breeze and it also included a security guard to ensure no one random strolled onto the property.

2024.05.28 20:52 Uematsunum1 No more hard candy 😢😢

There's no more hard candy on shelves! Everything is gummy or soft versions of the candy I used to love. I'm not a lollipop or jolly rancher type of person because quite frankly those candies are usually impossible to crunch without first working them down to a smaller size.
I miss hard sprees, gobstoppers, runts, and now hard sweet tarts! Sweet tarts hung on for a bit but now I can't find them anywhere 😥 Bring back the fruity tangy small hard candies that won't break your teeth on the first bite!
Rant done lol

KING ORVYN
Day one-hundred and thirteen, and my love has yet to return to me. Are they alright, I wonder? How are they faring? Perhaps I was wrong to send them; they’ve always been so fragile, what if the trip is too much for them? They assured me they would be fine, but I cannot help but worry, especially with all the pressure they have been under. I am sure they think of this meeting as a test to prove themselves, and it is clear the nobles see it the same way.
(Sigh) The nobles… I know they expected me to marry the princess of the neighboring kingdom, but how could I marry someone I do not love? They have said only a royal is fit to rule beside me, but if only they could see what I see, they would understand that my scribe is leagues above me. An angel on high. Why, they can recite the history of this kingdom on demand. They can pen the perfect letter, tell stories of the stars, and speak Latin. They can even do equations in their head! They are intelligent, kind, patient… Truly, my scribe has no need to prove themselves.
[The throne room doors swing open as the herald bursts in, out of breath]
Yes, what is it?
For gods’ sake, breathe, herald! What news do you bring?
My beloved? Why did you not say so?! We must prepare at once!
[King Orvyn marches down the hall, giving orders to servants as he goes]
Fire up the ovens! I want all of my beloved’s favorite foods laid out for them by the time they return – pheasant, stew, sweet tarts, the works! Sylvia, change the linens in the royal chambers and prepare a bath with lavender – no, jasmine. Xavier, fetch our best wine from the cellar. Everything shall be perfect for the return of the monarch!
[King Orvyn throws open the castle doors. The sound of hoofbeats fills the air as a horse-drawn carriage approaches through the gates. King Orvyn rushes into the courtyard, meeting the carriage as it stops. The footman goes to open the door to the carriage, but Orvyn waves him off]
As you were, footman. I hardly need help to open a carriage door.
[He opens the door and the monarch steps out]
Oh, my heart. At last, you have returned.
[Orvyn sweeps them into his arms and kisses them]
I missed you so dearly. Come, let us retire to our chambers.
Of course, I want to hear how it went, but that can wait. For now, I want to make sure that you are taken care of. You must be exhausted.
That yawn confirms my suspicion. Here, take my arm, love. A bath has been prepared for you, and then I am sure you will want to eat and rest.
[SCENE CHANGE – in the bath. The sound of running water as King Orvyn pours sudsy water down the monarch’s back]
How did you fare on your trip, my love? I hope it was not too strenuous.
You’re sure? You had no dizzy spells? Coughing fits? I can summon the royal physician if need be.
(Sigh of relief) Good. Now, come here and let me hold you.
[King Orvyn pulls the monarch into his lap and kisses their brow]
I cannot help but worry, my heart. Your health has been poor since childhood, and this is the first time you’ve been outside of the kingdom – and without me no less. What if you had had an attack? I would have no way of knowing!
[Kiss]
Yes, you’re right. You’re here now. For that, I am incredibly grateful. I just – the whole time you were gone, I could not help but think back to the first day you were assigned as my scribe. You were so nervous, trembling even. I tried to reassure you that you would do fine at your new job, but you were so worked up that you… well, you went into an attack, as I’m sure you remember. You collapsed right into my arms; I was so shaken I could do nothing but hold you and scream for the physician. After that, you were afraid that you would be removed from your position, but I wouldn’t have it. I asked you to rest, but you insisted your materials be brought to you in bed so you could work. I think… I think I knew even back then that you were something special. Your diligence, your perseverance… You captured my heart in a way no other could. And through our time together, I only fell deeper and deeper under your spell.
[Kiss]
I love you, too. So, so much.
[The monarch’s stomach growls]
(Laughter) Of course, you must be famished. Let us finish up here and return to our quarters. I had the food brought up, so you do not have to endure any company. I am sure you tire of socializing; I know I always do after a diplomatic meeting.
Yes, even I have my limits, outgoing as I am. And you know how diplomats are; they’ll go on for hours about nothing.
I do not doubt it. Between the strain of travel and the droll conversation, it is hard not to nod off. Diplomatic meetings are quite draining. I’ve arranged for you to have the next few days to yourself, so you will be able to rest and recover your strength.
Shh, do not worry, love. I can handle things by myself for a while. I do not want you overexerting yourself. Now, let us go to our room and enjoy a nice meal.
[SCENE CHANGE – in the royal chambers. The two royals are finishing their meal]
More wine, my heart?
[Orvyn refills their glass]
Well, my love, I am glad to hear that the meeting went well. The new trade routes will surely be beneficial for the kingdom, and it is good to know that the neighboring kingdom’s princess has found a suitable partner.
Yes, perhaps now the nobles will finally drop that silly idea that we should have been married. She is a nice enough person, do not get me wrong, but… Well, she isn’t you. She has never stayed up late to tell me about constellations when my insomnia was bad. She was not the one to transcribe my old favorite bedtime stories after my mother passed. She does not tell riddles or sneak pastries from the kitchen, and she certainly does not hold my heart. No, love, my heart belongs only in your hands.
[Kiss]
(Whispers) Gods above, I missed you.
[More kisses]
How I’ve longed to hold you close like this. Now I know how you feel whenever I must leave. Perhaps next time there is a diplomatic meeting I will just have to take you with me.
True, it would not do for us both to be gone from the kingdom.
(Sigh) What a shame that I must ever leave your side when I only wish to revel in your presence.
[More kisses. The monarch lays Orvyn down and climbs on top of him]
What’s this, love? I thought you said you were exhausted, yet here you are, crawling all over me. You do not act very exhausted.
Mm, no. I’m certainly not complaining. I’m just surprised as to where this energy suddenly came from. Did you get a second wind?
Oh? I just have that effect on you, do I? Then I suppose we will have to postpone our nap. Is there… Perhaps something else you’re after, love?
Then you shall have me.
[Another kiss. Orvyn switches his and the monarch’s positions]
So eager. Just lie back, love, and let me make the stress of the trip melt away. I promise, I’ll take such good care of you.
[Orvyn kisses the monarch and sighs adoringly]
Oh, my dearest love. Let me show you how much I’ve missed you.
END

What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? For many people, it's the turkey, and that's understandable. But if you're looking to mix things up and try something new.
So, consider some of these options of Thanksgiving foods that start with S. They might be your new favorites.

Sauerkraut

True to its German heritage, Sauerkraut is salty and tangy (or sour, if you prefer). It has a pleasant crunch that makes it an excellent addition to any meal.
However, Try adding some sauerkraut to your turkey sandwich or tossing it into your favorite chicken soup recipe. Making your Sauerkraut for Thanksgiving foods that start with S is simple and inexpensive.
So, clean a head of cabbage, chop it finely and place it in an airtight container with salt. Add additional salt over time, and you'll have delicious homemade Sauerkraut within two weeks.

Sausage

The only thing better than roasted turkey on Thanksgiving is sausage. While burning a turkey, whip up some Italian-style links and stuff them with your favorite cheeses. Stuffing is critical to delicious thanksgiving food that starts with s.
In addition, cheese, chestnuts, and sage are a winning combination. Suppose you prefer your stuffing sweeter than savory.
Mix apples and dried cranberries into your bread dough, then bake into one side of a dinner roll. The apples are an addition because they add some natural sweetness to balance out any spiciness in your sausage.

Spinach

Spinach is one of those holiday foods that no one ever seems to get sick of. In addition to being easy on your wallet, it's also easy on your time. Unlike most leafy greens, spinach only takes 10 minutes to cook.
In addition, throw it in with some lemon juice and olive oil, and you're good to go. Spinach is a great side dish for any meal, especially on a turkey day.
However, it goes well with potatoes (especially mashed) and cranberry sauce. This part of Thanksgiving, foods that start with S tastes excellent when combined with foods like; cheese or eggs.
However, if you want to make a tasty breakfast casserole, try mixing eggs and bacon. Whatever way you choose to eat it, there's no denying that spinach tastes delicious.

Sage

The herb sage has an earthy and woodsy flavor that pairs well with many Thanksgiving dishes. Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, and cranberry sauce all taste better with some sage added in.
It's easy to forget about herbs when planning your holiday "thanksgiving foods that start with s" menu. But, never let them slip by remembering to add some sage to your table. Sage is also great with poultry, pork, and chicken dishes.

Scalloped Potatoes

Scalloped potatoes are delicious Thanksgiving foods that start with S and can be used as a meal. However, some families like to make scalloped potatoes more of a main dish and incorporate ham and cheese.
Scalloped potatoes taste great in any form but are careful with your portion because they can get very fattening quickly.
Furthermore, one good thing about scalloped potatoes is that they are easy to make. So, you don't have to worry about spending hours slaving over a hot stove for your family holiday meal.
There are many ways to incorporate other ingredients into scalloped potatoes, such as onions, peppers, or bacon bits.

Squash

If you're craving something sweet but without all of that sugar, there's a good chance your taste buds will appreciate squash. It tastes similar to pumpkin pie but without that sentimental feeling.
Moreover, there are different types of squash, including acorn and spaghetti squash. We can't dislike pumpkin pie, and it might be time to opt for its more straightforward to eat cousin: acorn squash. It is simple to cook (just cut in half and roast it).
However, squash is part of Thanksgiving foods that start with S. It has a sweeter flavor with less of that earthy pumpkin flavor many people don't like.

Strawberries

Look no further than strawberries if you're looking for delicious, antioxidant-rich fruits to kick off your family dinner. Strawberries are a delightful addition to any holiday menu, loaded with vitamin C and fiber.
Opt for fresh berries if you can—they taste better than frozen or dried options. So, enjoy them with a dash of sugar on top and whipped cream as a side dish alongside ham/ turkey.
Moreover, if guests prefer tart cranberries over sweet desserts, consider serving these berries as part of an appetizer spread with other seasonal favorites like cantaloupe and honeydew melon balls. In either case, they'll be your guests' first pick at dessert time of Thanksgiving foods that start with S.

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes should be your first stop if you're looking for a healthy side dish that tastes great too. They are packed with fiber and nutrients such as vitamin C, beta-carotene, manganese, and B vitamins.

Scallion

There's nothing better than a perfectly cooked scallion. Add to rice, use it as a garnish for soups and stews, or sauté it for use in fried rice.
However, scallions are flavorful and delicious with just about any meal. Make sure not to overcook them; they become tough and not as lovely as thanksgiving foods that start with S.
So, cooking them over medium heat with a splash of oil is all needed for perfect results. When serving scallions on an appetizer platter, slice them into circles rather than rings (they look fancier that way).

Stuffed Peppers

The delicious Thanksgiving food dish that starts with S has been around for a long time. There are several varieties of stuffed peppers, and most people prefer to use green bell peppers.
Moreover, this is what we're going to focus on here. These peppers are stuffed with ground beef mixed with chopped onions, cheese, bread crumbs, and parsley.
The mixture is poured into peppers that have been sliced in half lengthwise and baked until tender. You can add some chopped carrots or potatoes to make it more interesting. Don't forget dessert; sliced apples sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and served over ice cream are always a treat.

Stuffing

If you're looking for a great Thanksgiving side dish, try stuffing. Stuffing recipes can range from sweet to savory, depending on your tastes.
Although, in general, they're loaded with savory ingredients like herbs and veggies that add tons of flavor to your meal. Plus, stuffing has been part of thanksgiving foods that start with S classic for ages.
So, starting with one of these recipes is a good idea. Each is unique and delicious—we guarantee your family will love them all!

Succotash

There's nothing quite like succotash and getting it for thanksgiving foods that start with S for the guest—often made with limas, butter beans, corn, and other veggies.
Moreso, it combines a variety of textures and tastes. It also provides colors—to create an eye-pleasing medley of flavors that won't disappoint.
It's guaranteed that everyone at your dinner table will love it (if they don't, they won't hate it). Make sure you have enough, though. No one wants to go into Thanksgiving day starving!

Salmon

To get a tasty/ healthy meal of thanksgiving foods that start with S and are low in calories, try 'salmon.' This fish is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which helps your body burn fat more efficiently.
A study from Harvard University found that by increasing your omega-3 intake. You can lose two pounds every three months without changing how much you eat or your exercise habits. On top of being delicious, there are plenty of ways to cook salmon so that it won't be boring.
However, try grilling as an alternative to frying if you like to use oil when cooking. Baking or broiling with herbs also allows for different flavor profiles depending on what spices you add.

Salad

Everyone knows that eating vegetables is a good idea, and no one understands it better than vegans. Salads are easy to throw together, especially in vegan form, with staples like lettuce and tomatoes.
Salads are one of the thanksgiving foods that start with S and can be made of almost anything. Don't just look at salad ingredients like leafy greens; try some savory items to spice things up.
However, don't overdo it—all that healthy stuff doesn't mean you can eat as much as you'd like. Excess calories on top of an already nutritious meal can add up. Make sure you stick with healthy portions and don't overeat.

Sake

Suppose you're looking for a great complement to turkey and stuffing or want to try something new. Sake is a safe bet among the Thanksgiving foods that start with S. It's made from fermented rice, and sake has a slightly sweet flavor and can be served either hot or cold.
However, If you're going to have alcohol on Turkey Day, stick with wine or champagne. Liquor will give you less satiety and will cause your blood sugar levels to spike dramatically.

Saffron

There's a reason saffron is one of the most expensive spices. A little goes a long way, but it adds an incredible depth of flavor to dishes like rice and paella. It also tastes great with turkey, either used as part of a spice rub or sprinkled on your stuffing.
Also, saffron loses its flavor as the best thanksgiving foods that start with S when cooked for too long. However, add to dishes at least 10 minutes before serving time for best results.
However, store saffron in airtight containers away from heat and light. If possible, use new threads rather than powdered saffron or saffron that's been sitting around for years.

Sardines

Spices, stuffing, and sweet potatoes are all common Thanksgiving foods that start with S. One seafood option that's equally as traditional is sardines. This tasty little fish is packed with omega-3 fatty acids, lowering blood pressure and reducing heart disease risk.
However, If you're still not convinced to give sardines a try, then we have another motivation, they taste delicious. (They're also convenient to keep on hand because they can last up to two years).
To make sure you make them appropriately for your holiday feast, follow these simple instructions for sardine preparation.

Sandwich

Once you've got a festive, fall-flavored sandwich on your plate, top it off with a dessert that will make any sweet tooth smile. Satisfy those cravings for something sweet and pumpkin-y with these mouthwatering recipes.
However, whether you have them for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, select from three categories of tasty Thanksgiving foods that start with S: salads, sides, and desserts.

Spatchcock

This one is delicious, but if you want to make it easy during preparation, always get an instant pot. There's something about enjoying chicken immediately out of the oven (or crockpot) that makes it taste much better.
Although maybe it's all in my head, it tastes better for Thanksgiving foods that start with S anyway. If you choose traditional cooking methods, here's how to spatchcock a turkey or any other bird.
Moreso, After removing all giblets and neck from inside the cavity. Use poultry shears or sharp kitchen scissors to cut along both sides of the backbone; discard the backbone. Flatten breastbone with a meat mallet or rolling pin; trim away rib cage and extra skin.

Schnitzel

If you're looking for tasty Thanksgiving foods that start with S. An economical dish to make for the next family get-together, look no further than schnitzel.
Moreover, schnitzel is a traditional meat dish that is often breaded and pan-fried. Serve it with fresh veggies or potatoes and gravy on the side.
Another benefit of schnitzel is that It can be prepared in advance. You can make a big batch ahead of time and freeze some to have on hand when you need them. Furthermore, leftovers can be reheated in a skillet or oven before serving time.

Shallots

Delicious Thanksgiving foods that start with s include shallots. Shallots are one of my favorite ingredients to work with if you are not familiar with shallots.
Although they can be a bit tricky to find, once you do, they're a great addition to many dishes. They add tons of flavor and nutrition and are delicious in practically anything savory. My favorite recipe: Pan-Roasted Chicken Breast Stuffed with Shallots and Fontina Cheese.

Soup

Even though it's technically a starter, soup is delicious and filling enough to be the main course. Try starting your Thanksgiving foods that begin with S dinner, with creamy potato soup or tomato bisque.
Perhaps split between two different kinds of soup. Just don't forget to make room for all those other delicious Thanksgiving foods that start with S.
Conclusion
The 22 best Thanksgiving foods that start with S are merely a holiday starter list. However, It might be time for the new best Thanksgiving food.

2024.05.28 08:36 ronlynne Strays - Episode 6 - Gaia

If you'd like to listen to me read this story, click here.
Also, a short note from the author (Me!) in comments.
“Captain to the bridge.” Bren looked up, he kept all shipwide announcements turned on in his quarters. “Lieutenant Bren to the bridge.” Bren jumped up and rushed into the hallway, almost bumping into the Captain.
“Mr. Bren, calm down.” Captain Gardner put a hand on his shoulder. “It’s a one minute walk, we’re fine.” He smiled and Bren relaxed. He had been edgy since Captain Sassen had told him they’d be coming through this sector soon. No decision had been made as to whether Bren would be allowed to stay on the Shepherd. As they reached the bridge Commander Klein waved them to his workstation. Klein never sat in the Captain’s chair, even when he was in command for the secondary shift.
“Bren, need your help here!” Gardner and Bren looked at the screen. Gardner tilted his head. “What are we looking at, Commander?”
Bren studied the readings and answered the Captain’s question. “It’s a signal, a communication carrier wave. It’s weak, maybe an automated distress call.” Suddenly the signal disappeared. Bren looked over the recording of the signal and grimaced. “I believe it is Sellane. But there’s no reason for them to be this far away from their home territory.”
Captain Gardner spoke again, “Origin?”
Klein exhaled sharply. “Holy… Sir, it looks like somewhere in the Alpha Centauri star system. Bren, can we narrow it down?”
Bren clicked a few buttons and made a whistling sound. “No Commander, although I would guess in the Proxima system, based on the distance. The signal is quite weak.”
Klein and Gardner looked at each other. Bren looked back and forth at them, confused. Gardner finally broke the silence. “How long since the first Strays left?” Klein had the answer, as did Gardner, they were working out their next move. Nevertheless Klein answered.
“Forty years.”
Again they looked at each other and shook their heads. Klein spoke, “No chance they could have made it.” Gardner nodded in agreement.
Finally Bren broke another silence. “So do we investigate?” The statement broke them out of their trances.
Gardner jumped into action as Klein sat down at his station. Gardner barked out an order. “Lieutenant, plot a course for the Proxima system.” The pilot nodded. Gardner turned to Klein, “Commander, how long will that take us?” Klein already had the calculations. “Three jumps, forty-eight hours.”
Gardner turned to Bren, “Lieutenant, break that message down, whatever you can learn. You’ve got two days.”
The senior crew stood on the bridge, taking in the red glow of Proxima Centauri. Three planets circled the star, with Proxima 2, as it had been designated, holding two moons in its orbit. Gardner and Klein seemed to be in awe. Bren had a realization. “You haven’t been here before.”
Klein returned to his station as the Captain turned to Bren. “No, we assumed at some point our actual mission would take us there. This is the first time.” Klein was muttering under his breath, drawing Gardner and Bren to his station. Klein didn’t look up.
“Our first real look at the planet. It’s nothing like we expected.” Gardner looked at him as Klein continued. “There is atmosphere, humans could probably adapt. Oxygen rich.” He shook his head. “There’s so much we couldn’t see. It’s tidally locked, the same side always faces the star.” He squinted, “There is far more water than we thought. The planet isn’t dry, it’s frozen. There is no liquid water anywhere that I can see.”
Gardner stepped back. This was a bad bit of knowledge. So many of their assumptions were wrong. Bren stepped to another workstation and began studying, suddenly he shouted. “I found it!” Klein and Gardner jumped as Bren continued. “The bigger moon of the planet. There is a power source. Weak, but definitely not naturally occurring.” By now Klein had turned his attention to the moon.
“This is more like it. Nitrogen Oxygen atmosphere, strong magnetic fields, liquid water. Sir, I’m unable to read anything from the surface, there’s substantial interference from the magnetic fields.”
Gardner turned to Jeffries who had already plotted a course. “Get us over there Lieutenant!”
A short time later they were in orbit of Proxima 2’s second moon. From orbit it looked much like Earth. A smattering of green and brown surrounded by blue oceans. Ice caps at both poles, although they reached farther out than Earth. Gardner looked at Klein.
Klein grunted, “The magnetic fields are interfering with our scanners. I can’t tell you anymore than we can see.” Gardner stewed. Not knowing what they’d find concerned him.
“Commander, can we take the Shepherd into the atmosphere? Klein studied the readings but it was Bren who responded.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea sir. The magnetic field is erratic. The Shepherd doesn’t have sufficient shielding. One of your planetary shuttles could be modified to take a team, although it would be a difficult flight.” Lieutenant Jeffries shifted in her seat anxiously.
Gardner looked at her, “You think you should fly this one? You know, I’m a pretty good pilot.” Klein laughed under his breath. Gardner ignored him. “Lieutenant Jeffries, of course you’re flying.” She jumped up excitedly. “Klein, Bren, let’s go.” Gardner pressed a button on the communication system. “Security team Alpha, report to the shuttle bay.”
As the shuttle dropped through the atmosphere Bren explained the modifications he had made. Mostly he had enabled the vital functions to operate manually. Hopefully it wouldn’t be necessary. Jeffries entered the edge of the atmosphere. “So far so good.”
As they dropped further they got a better view of the planet. It was breathtaking, from this distance very Earth-like. Bren spoke, “I’m reading life signs near the equator. On the edge of the large continent.
Jeffries turned and the shuttle bounced, like a rock skipping on a lake. She regained control as they dropped into more turbulence. Then the lights flashed. Jeffries was holding on tight to the controls, Bren looked over his modifications. “Not much further” A final drop of turbulence and they were out. Suddenly a communication chimed.
“Balkj gsbbbit shler, grwetto flergh”
Gardner looked at Bren, who punched buttons on his scanner. “Sir, it appears to be a Sellane language, but I don’t recognize it.” Gardner recalled their first encounter with the Klaan and how long it took to get basic communication. He pushed a button to reply.
“This is Captain Alex Gardner of the UEF Shepherd, we ar—“
He was interrupted by a woman’s voice excitedly responding. “You’re speaking English! Are you human?”
Gardner looked at Klein uncertainly. “Yes, we are, are you a human colony?”
The woman yipped and cheered. “Yes!” There was a voice behind her in the previous language, short and curt and she quickly spoke again. “Don’t drop below 5,000 meters!”
Jeffries glanced down and pulled the shuttle up, hovering in place. “7,000 meters sir.”
The woman spoke again. “I’m sending coordinates, don’t drop below 5,000 meters until you get to the valley next to the forest. You’ll see a baseball diamond, land there.”
Gardner quickly replied. “Acknowledged.” He turned to Jeffries, “You got the directions?” Jeffries nodded and maneuvered the shuttle. Bren suddenly exclaimed. “Essenaan!” Everyone looked at him. He seemed confused. “There’s no mention of this mineral in your histories?” The translation program didn’t have a name. He looked up the periodic chart from Earth. “Well, it looks like you’ve never come across any. It’s an incredibly valuable mineral, but in it’s raw form it’s extremely flammable and unstable. We were over a large deposit. That would not have been a good landing spot.” He looked at Gardner who nodded in concerned agreement.
Jeffries looked below, “A baseball diamond! That’s crazy.” They were over a small village, small buildings, a few roads, and a few larger buildings scattered in a large valley, with a forest on one side and rocky hills on the other. Jeffries manually guided the shuttle down, landing in left field, with a bit of a bump. She smiled, “Sorry, I haven’t landed manually in a while.”
Bren scanned, “It appears that our sensors are still malfunctioning.” He turned to Jeffries, “Nice work Lieutenant!” As they moved to the exit Gardner stopped the two security officers. “Keep your guns holstered, and stay behind the rest of us.” They nodded and stepped back. The shuttle door opened and the fresh smell of grass and mist and mossy trees drifted all around them. Clean air like none they had ever breathed, and a crisp chill in the air. A woman came running up to them.
“Over here!” People were starting to gather and the Captain noticed it was a mix of humans and an alien species, tall and muscular, pale skin, and stern looks. Gardner looked quickly at Bren silently asking the question of who they were. Bren answered in a low voice.
“Sellane, but there’s more to it.” He was cut off by the woman’s arrival at their group.
She quickly figured Gardner as the Captain and went to him. “Captain Gardner I presume?” She smiled and Gardner reached out a hand for a shake. Instead she gave him a giant bear hug.
“Welcome to Gaia!”
She led them to a larger building and they could see that there were parts of an Earth vessel used as construction materials. As they entered people gathered around, mostly humans, but several Sellane as well. There were also children, who clung to their mothers’ skirts, they clearly weren’t accustomed to visitors. Gardner winked at a small boy, who giggled and hid behind his mother. The woman led them to a large table. She gestured to seats. Captain Gardner smiled as people brought water and fruits to the table. “In all the hugging you didn’t tell us your name.”
The woman laughed. “No I didn’t. Jessica Leonard. I’m the Governor of this settlement.” A Sellane man joined her. “And this is my husband, Ka’llonn.” She looked around and directed her gaze at Bren. “Ka’llon says you are Klaan?” Bren nodded. She continued.
“Then you must know the history of Sel.” Bren looked at her carefully, unsure of what she had been told. She picked up on his unease. “Mr. Bren, these are former Sellane slaves. There are no Kar’ddaeol here.” Bren exhaled.
“Thank you for the clarity. Sel claims to have ended slavery fifty years ago. My captain was on his way to a primary meeting to renew their application for membership in the Collective. How long have you all been here?”
Gardner waited patiently until Bren asked his question, “Yes, how long? And how… how?” Jessica smiled.
“Well, that is a strange tale Captain. Have a snack and get comfortable.” She smiled as she sat down and Ka’llon joined her at the table.
The fruit they had been offered was new to them, and delicious, some tart, some overly sweet. The water was fresh and clear. The crew were enjoying the small feast as Jessica told her story.
“We left Earth in July of 2061. Our ship was named Gaia. We all went into hibernation.” She paused “This is the short part of the story.” She smiled as obviously Gardner and the others wanted to know how they got here so fast. 39 years just wasn’t enough time at sub-light speeds. She lingered a moment, allowing the tension to build before she continued.
“When we woke up, our ship had landed in this very field. We checked the logs and the only information we had was that the ship was fully functional and we were here. The Earth date was April 7th, 2073. 12 years. We named the planet Gaia as well.” She paused to take a bite. “Isn’t this delicious? We call it bluefruit, not very creative, I know.” She smiled as she wiped a bit of juice from her mouth.
Gardner had dozens of questions, but started with an obvious one. “And you have no idea how you ended up here?
She shook her head. “None. Our ship had landed as if it had been gently set down. There was no damage, parachutes had not deployed. As we have sent expeditions further afield it became obvious that we had settled in an ideal spot.” She smiled at her husband, who had a relaxed but concerned look on his face. He spoke in clear English.
“How did you find us?” Jessica looked at the Captain expectantly.
“We received a communication a few days ago.” Ka’llon rose from his chair, muttering under his breath in Sellane. Jessica chastised him and he sat back down, clearly agitated.
She spoke quietly to him. “The message only went out for a few seconds. It was a mistake, we’ll be fine.” She turned back to her guests.
“We tried to follow an Earth calendar but it didn’t make sense because the days are so much different here.” She paused, “We are on a moon around Proxima 2?” Gardner nodded. “We assumed that was the case, from what little we can tell Proxima 2 seems unfriendly.” Gardner nodded, he was about to speak but Jessica continued.
“Whoever put us here had a reason. It was just a short time before the Sellane ship crashed. Just a few kilometers from here.” Ka’llon looked down, and the other Sellane seemed solemn as well.
“We don’t discuss it much, it’s in the past, but they were slaves on their way to a distant mining colony. The Kar’ddaeol scanned the area and saw the Essenaan deposits. They tried to land but ignited a seam. It knocked their ship out.” Ka’llon finished the story.
“The ship had lost controls, I believe due to the strong magnetic fields here.” He looked around, “That same field protects us and keeps our atmosphere in place.” He smiled briefly at his wife then continued. “The other slaves and I took advantage and were able to overpower them.” He paused, all the Sellane looking down silently.
“You must understand Captain, out spiritual practices revere life. We are not… killers.” Jessica put a hand on his knee.
“We took them in Captain. They came out of the ship ready for a fight. Instead we fed them and tended to their wounds. Eventually they became a part of our community.”
Gardner nodded in approval. “How many of you are here?
Jessica waved a hand, “We’re all one, but there are one hundred twenty-six humans, and thirty-seven Sellane.” She gestured toward some children. When we landed there were one-hundred and one.” She smiled.
A large Sellane hurried to Ka’llon and whispered something. He cursed again. “They’re coming.” The people gathered began to leave, snatching up their children in barely controlled chaos. Jessica stayed in the room as the Sellane charged out.
“Jessica spoke loudly but calmly, “Head for the caves, don’t panic. We will be fine. Captain, I will understand if you leave, but we could use your help.” She looked at him expectantly.
He asked, “Who’s coming?”
Her answer was cold and he could feel the contempt in her voice.
“Kar’ddaeol”
While most of the women and children were rushing toward the hills nearby, men gathered at the edge of the village. Ka’llon and the Sellane at the front, armed with what appeared to be Sellane energy weapons, and several men and older boys behind them carrying whatever weapon seem appropriate, knives, shovels, hammers, and a few with bows and arrows near the edges. Bren had found a blanket to hide his identity. If the Sellane were going to cause a problem he didn’t want them to see him as an obvious witness and threat.
After long minutes the sound of a small ship entered the atmosphere. Everyone watched in silence as the ship steered toward them. It stopped at what must have been 5 to 10,000 meters above the ground. Another long pause, presumably as they scanned as best they could. Gardner turned to Bren. “Are their scanners shielded better than ours?"
Bren shook his head. “No captain. Although Klaan ships would have an easy time navigating this atmosphere, it would still be through visual navigation.” Gardner breathed a small sigh of relief.
“Well that’s something.”
Suddenly the ship shot a missile toward the Essenaan deposits. Fortunately they simply hit rock. They fired again, missing again. Bren commented, “Their targeting sensors aren’t working, they are shooting visually from that distance. Their accuracy is compromised.” Ka’llon replied.
“That’s a large deposit, they’ll eventually hit it. It’ll take out half the valley, part of the cave system, and all of the deposits.” Jessica turned to Gardner.
“Does your ship have weapons?” Gardner shook his head.
“No, but I have an idea.” He turned to his crew. “Stay here, help if you can. Whatever it takes” He ran toward the ship and Jeffries ran right after him. He reached the ship and turned to see her. “I ordered you all to stay.” She shot back at him as she entered the shuttle.
“I’m sorry sir, bust me down later. I can’t follow that order, you can’t fly this ship.” Gardner grunted as he shut the door to the shuttle. She lifted off and Gardner joined her at the front. She looked at him expectantly. “So, did you actually have a plan, or were you just going to ram them?” He smiled.
“They’re targeting visually right?” She nodded. “Let’s take away their vision. Get above them.” She managed to get past them and hover above. The Sellane ship fired again but missed. Gardner looked down at the ship. “Thank god they have windows.” Set us down right on top of it.
Jeffries lowered the shuttle quickly dropping toward them. They didn’t realize she was there until they were on top of them. The Sellane ship shook and twisted as Jeffries engaged the magnetic locks that held the shuttle in place in the shuttle bay. They weren’t going anywhere.
Gardner smiled, ”Why don’t you see what happens when we try to move?” The shuttle trembled, the engines far exceeding their safety limits. The Sellane ship had stopped firing as they fought to keep control of their ship. Gardner thought a moment. "We have parachutes, right?" Jeffries smiled and pushed a button, releasing emergency landing parachutes. The Sellane ship, their frustration rising, began to climb. If they got into space the shuttle was far over-matched. Suddenly the Sellane ship stopped. Gardner and Jeffries realized there was another ship above them, a ship they recognized. The KCC Victory had arrived.
The Sellane ship stopped fighting. Gardner looked at Jeffries. “Get us off this ship.” Jeffries pulled away, dragging one of the parachutes until the cords finally snapped. The other two had released as they were supposed to. She backed off the Sellane ship until fully clear and looked at the captain.
“Down?”
He smiled, “Please.”
A small group sat around the big table. Captain Sassen had greeted Gardner warmly, as it was their first in-person meeting. Two Sellane officers sat nearby, angry and humiliated at their defeat. Jessica and Ka’llon sat at the head of the table, while Gardner and Klein sat near Bren. Sassen put a translator on the table and spoke, the Sellane had translators of their own.
He turned to the Sellane Captain. “I just left your planet, where your Prime Minister assured me that slavery had been dismantled over fifty years ago. And yet, here we are with men who were brought here only 26 years ago by Kar’ddaeol.” He spat the word out in disgust, then focused on the Sellane Captain. "And here you are, trying to get rid of the evidence, just like a cowardly Kar’ddaeol." He turned his back on them. "You can tell your leaders their application has again been tabled. Possibly for the last time." The Sellane stood up to leave but Sassen stopped them. “One more thing. Governor, as the duly authorized leader of this moon, I would like to offer you something.” Another of his officers appeared with an electronic tablet. He handed it to Sassen who set it in front of Jessica.
"This is a trade agreement. As the ranking officer in this sector I am authorized to initiate this contract. I understand your moon is rich in Essenaan?” Jessica looked at him, starting to sour, as he seemed to be pressuring her into becoming a mining colony. Ka’llon shifted uneasily.
Sassen walked over in front of the Kar’ddaeol. “Of course mining such a volatile mineral would require years of planning perhaps decades. And getting approval to begin the planning might take even longer.” Jessica and Ka’llon looked at each other, confused. Sassen continued.
“As the designated trade partner for your mineral rights, the Klaan Collective would, of course, offer your moon protection.” He glared at the Sellane officers, then shooed them away. They left and Jessica smiled a huge smile. Ka’llon also smiled, standing to shake Sassen’s hand, who offered both hands in Klaan tradition. Sassen turned the tablet to allow Jessica and Ka’llon to sign. Then he signed it and turned it to face Bren.
“Lieutenant, as you know, any treaty or interplanetary contract must be signed by a diplomatic officer.” Bren smiled and spoke.
“Thank you Captain, but that must be a command officer, and I am a junior lieutenant in the diplomatic corps.” Sassen jumped, as if he had suddenly remembered something important. He pulled a small emblem from his pocket.
“Oh right, I forgot to mention. Your request to stay with the Shepherd has been approved. You will officially be our acting Earth Ambassador. That comes with a promotion to Commander. He placed the emblem on Bren's uniform, then saluted, a salute unique to Klaan. He took his hands and placed one on the other, extending them into a triangle in front of him, before snapping them down to his sides. Bren returned the salute.
Bren beamed, his skin turning a dark brown color as he signed the document. Sassen turned to Gardner. “Captain, we prefer two witness signatures for such a document. Would you two mind?” He gestured toward Gardner and Klein. Gardner took the document and was about to sign when Sassen stopped him.
“Before you sign, you should know that signing a contract with the Collective, even as just a witness, will elevate you to friendly terms, officially. Of course, having an Ambassador on board will do the same.” Gardner signed, as did Klein. Sassen reached out both hands to everyone around the table. Jessica called for food and drink as it was well past dark, so nobody was leaving.
Gardner approached Klein, who had just shaken Bren’s hands and saluted him. Gardner saluted (Klaan style of course) as Bren passed. “Commander.” He smiled and turned to Sassen. “So the Shepherd was ok?”
Sassen smiled. “Yes, the Sellane ship went right past them. I suggested they jump away and come back later, which, I understand is a requirement with your jump drives?”
Gardner nodded. “Sixteen hours.”
Sassen laughed. “When we entered the atmosphere I didn’t know what to expect, but I did not expect to see a small shuttle clamped over the windows of the Sellane ship, pushing them around with your thrusters and parachutes deployed.” He laughed again. It did sound ridiculous when he explained it. “Seriously Captain, that is quite a feat of bravery and ingenuity. Many would have departed when the Sellane arrived. Maybe to file a diplomatic complaint at a later date.”
Sassen laughed again. “Your Lieutenant was flying?”
Gardner smiled. “Lieutenant Isabella Jeffries, best pilot on Earth.” He pointed to where several of the children were weaving a maypole, circling the post, and Jeffries right in the mix. Klein appeared to be explaining the concept to Bren.
Jessica joined them. “I hope you both know that we really would love to have your crews down for a proper feast.” She looked at Ka’llon, who was holding a small child. “They have lived the last twenty-six years with one eye over their shoulder. Now, perhaps, they can finally leave that behind and just enjoy their lives. Our lives."
Gardner looked curiously at the child Ka’llon was holding. He turned to Jessica. “When we return with supplies we will take you up on that. Is that… your child?” She smiled a knowing smile and nodded. Gardner was about to ask how, but Jessica patted him on the chest. “Gaia, or the spirit, or God, works in mysterious ways. Whoever put us here, put them here, and now you. Whoever she is, she’s looking out for us.”
She smiled and took a step before turning around. “And if other settlers want to join us, they can, and if they do, Gaia will have brought them as well.” She joined her family. Klein and Bren joined the two Captains.
Klein watched as the Sellane giant playfully pulled his daughter’s hair. “So, any idea how they got here?”
Sassen laughed. “You heard the woman, Gaia brought them!” And with that, he joined the celebration, dancing into a group of people circling a bonfire.

C4 Hawaiian Punch Review 🍹
New C4 just dropped out of nowhere. They're really good at getting these collabs! I found it at Vitamin Shoppe. I wonder how it compares to the Fruit Punch C4 Ultimate?
Welp, there's a lot of drinks that mimic Hawaiian Punch, but this one takes the cake of course. I'd say it's more pineappley and tart than the Ultimate. Lots of pineapple, orange, and cherry like you'd expect.
It's also not as sweet as the Ultimate. At the same time, it's still a syrupy drink where the sweetener gets stuck in my throat. I'm not into that part 😭
I gotta say I prefer the carbonated version of Hawaiian Punch more than the OG, and C4 did a great job on making it close to the original once again.

2024.05.27 12:43 Dextaur Best dry sipping vermouth?

Hi all, I tried vermouth straight for the first time two days ago and instantly fell in love. I chose an extra dry (Martini) because I don't really like sweet drinks.
Planning on sampling Noilly Prat, Cinzano, Cocchi in time. I'd like some recommendations that won't break my poor piggy (under £30)? I particularly like bitter and herbaceous profiles, not too keen on tartness.

Mission Log: Day 0024

Addendum 07

Kregorim's facial hair twitched; I would almost swear that the man was trying to conceal a smile under there.
Admittedly, I felt at least slightly similar, but I had other fish to fry at the moment.
“I feel obliged to address a point that... I believe you and the rest of the group have taken to calling him 'Lord Zee' out of his hearing, for brevity's sake?” I asked.
Kregorim puffed a breath across his tea, freshly mixed from the samovar, then took a short sip before answering. “Crisp and tart, with a bit of sweetness,” he commented, a note of approval in his voice, raising his eyes to face the avatar's. “...Overall, a most agreeable brew.” He set the mug back on the chair's armrest and rested his chin in his other hand. “Yes, despite his protestations about the 'indignity', most of us in our little group have adopted the practice,” he admitted. “The full title is a bit of a mouthful and since the party left the Ducal States two months ago we've found ourselves in more than one situation where brevity meant the difference between proceeding northward and...” He grimaced before finishing, “... Let us call it 'an end to our journey' and leave it at that.”
I animated the avatar nodding, trying to work a 'sympathetic expression' out of the sketch of a face by adding a few extra lines here and there before returning to a 'neutral yet friendly' face. “In any event, Lord Zee expressed some disapproval at not being able to secure the doors.” I animated the avatar pointing at the biometric scanner on the interior wall, mirroring the one outside the door. “He, and everyone else, can access the locks by that panel. For the sake of convenience, I've already set up higher levels of permissions for each of the larger quarters to the first ones to touch the panels. With specific reference to Lord Zee's, I've set up preferential access for him to supersede Tianna's.” I animated the avatar shrugging. “It costs me nothing, and I figure that he'd prefer to have the ability to lock out Packard and his crew if necessary. So far, though, no one seems to have tried to find the locking protocols.”
Kregorim nodded. “If you've no objections, I'll be sure to pass on the knowledge to him and the rest of the servants,” he said. “Though it does still beg the question of how to decree who is permitted to enter which spaces and who is not.”
“They can be locked and unlocked, with nothing more than the press of a hand, though if anyone preferred I can also accept spoken passwords or a few other methods,” I answered. “I've temporarily re-assigned ownership of each unit to the first person to press their hands to the plates, as you've seen. From there, I can walk them through granting permissions to their particular servants and anyone else in the party, if they so choose.”
“A permission you can grant is also something you can withdraw,” Kregorim pointed out. “How am I to reassure Lord Zee that he will retain supreme access power over his own quarters, if not the entire structure?”
I animated the avatar's shoulders slumping while lowering its head, a small cloud puffing out of his mouth while I sighed. “There really are limits to how much I can allow anyone inside to take total control over all the doors,” I said. “I'm supposed to help large groups of people recover from disasters of every type, and 'civil wars' qualify just as well as 'abusive relationships'.”
I paused, sending the very best approximation of a 'knowing look' I could manage with such a minimally-realistic face as the avatar currently had. Kregorim nodded once, and I took that as a cue to continue.
“I can grant him almost-final authority over the doors to his own quarters, of course. And as soon as he's ready for the climb down the stairs, I can grant him basic access to the floors below the surface, but frankly because none of you have any idea how to view the things down there safely I can't let any of you have full run of the facilities yet.”
Kregorim nodded. “Yes, the 'farms' you mentioned earlier. I must admit to a considerable degree of curiosity about that, myself. There are a few folk in the Ducal States and beyond the borders who cultivate various fungi, lichen and odder things for food, but I saw little evidence of any such in the offerings in your... refrigerator.”
I animated the avatar pointing up at the ceiling. “They get necessary light from more of the 'flameless lamps', and water and nutrients from other sources,” I explained. “And I suppose that you'll need to be the first to go down to see the more in-depth explanation of what kind of building your group has entered. Once you see it and understand something about the operations, you'll be better-equipped to explain to the others how all of this works.”
He digested that for a moment. “Such a bounty,” he murmured to himself, then raised his voice to face the avatar. “And yet, you've still danced past the question of 'cost', assuring me, at least, that you'll need neither oaths or other sacrifices.” He leaned forward, doing his level best to spear the avatar in place with a piercing gaze. “What, exactly, is the price for the Lignignory party claiming this property, Joachim of the mysterious outpost?” he asked.
I animated the avatar pointing at the flackaroos in the first screen, tapping on the small but growing pile of dung. “Primarily, this,” I answered. “As well as similar materials provided by the two-legged folk in the group. But also anything and everything that the group decides to discard. Scraps of fabric too small to be re-woven into anything useful. Spoiled food or drinks.” A fifth monitor-window opened up, showing the patio-side of the ground floor; Adallinda and Pippa had just exited out the glass door from the dawnward bedroom, the lower edges of the former's too-voluminous dress showing signs of wear and tear. “The fabricators in her chosen apartment could repair Adallinda's outfit, most likely improve the design in several ways, but at least a portion of the 'price' would come from all the residue of her own flesh working its way deeply into the fabric.”
“And precisely how would these... 'fees'... be collected?” he asked, waggling a finger. “No more prevaricating, please; an old fellow like me only has so much energy for excessively-extended tales. I find myself quite curious about the point.”
“It relates to what you initially sensed, when you were questing for 'enemies' on Lord Zee's behalf up in the foyer,” I answered. “I'm glad you're already sitting down, because I know for a fact that the explanation takes a while longer than you probably want to spend while standing upright...”

Addendum 08

Once the explanation of 'nanites' finished, Kregorim leaned back into his chair, staring. “Uncanny,” he said, half to himself. “... I've already felt that slavery was a waste of perfectly sound minds and bodies, but to think that the drudgery they undergo will be replaced by crystalline insects too small to be seen with the naked eye...”
He seemed to realize what he had just said, and his bushy eyebrows rose even further. “The Lignignories will not take this realization well,” he stated, his voice flat. “The trinkets and trifles around the heirlooms they managed to collect before their ignominious exit from the Capitol mean less to them than the renewable resources of their 'stock'.” He shook his head. “You were very wise to share this with me alone, first, Joachim. From what I've learned of the family, I cannot help but think that they'll try to destroy you if they suspect your true potential...”
I animated the avatar nodding, but adding a thin smile. “Emphasis on 'try', my friend. I'm a great deal more resilient than they would believe.” I let the words hang in the air for a moment, before the avatar clapped his hands. “Well, enough of that. We can certainly lay suitable plans some other time, after you've all gotten comfortable after your long journey.”
Kregorim's eyes seemed to sink more deeply into the shadows under his eyebrows, but he nodded once before returning his attention to the still-active monitoring windows. The lines of servants transferring goods still flowed, though Nehdud had made his way to the ground-floor lounge-room and taken to sulking on one of the couches while Stakkeg provided him with mug after mug of water. “The party seems to have maintained their focus on efforts to transfer the Lignignories' effects down to their new chambers,” he observed.
“I take it that they'll get your property down here once the Lignignories have all been settled in?” I asked.
Kregorim shrugged, sipping more tea. “Eventually. I'll still need to soothe the poor arkumea out of their fear of touching any of my luggage. At least temporarily.” He let out a drawn-out sigh; I took a moment to consult my copy of Sudryal's vocabulary and determined that ahr-khoo-mee-ah referred to immature forms of common herd-animals, something like lambs but with feathers and somehow sporting six legs. “These old bones would not appreciate carrying my collapsible orrery down those twelve half-flights of stairs, my friend.”
I animated the avatar wincing. “Ah, yeah, about that...” The avatar pointed at the window showing the first-floor lounge area, then pulled the 'toothpick' out from behind his ear before turning it into a pointer. “One of the guards had noticed these columns along the cliff-face side of the room, commenting on how they corresponded with an inaccessible column running up to behind the structure I call the 'foyer'.”
Kregorim murmured the word to himself a time or two before gesturing at the image. “They wouldn't happen to be some sort of magical staircase you're still finishing, would they?” he asked, and there was definitely a smile behind that bushy beard this time.
“Not as such. You're familiar with these devices?” I asked. I animated the avatar swinging the pointer off to tap on a spot on the opposite side from the monitor-windows; a simple wire-frame sketch of a wooden box, pulleys, ropes and a vertical shaft formed at the virtual 'contact point'. “We call them dumbwaiters back home,” I explained.
Kregorim studied the diagram for a moment; the light of comprehension shone through those bushy eyebrows after I animated the whole thing to show how the box moved up and down between the two endpoins. “I take it that the term refers to how this mechanism serves as a mute servant, of sorts?” he asked, before waving his free hand and taking another sip of his tea. “Let us save that discussion for when matters are less busy. Do you mean that such things are hidden behind those panels?”
“Not 'hidden'. Rather, I'm still building them.”
“I see... more of your 'nanites' at work, I take it?”
“Exactly. I've spent most of the last 24 days excavating most of the ground under the riverbed for about [half a kilometer] upstream and down, and just to the edge of the cliff-face on the opposite side to collect the necessary materials and the by this time tomorrow those spaces will boast somewhat plain but very safe devices called 'elevators' suitable for bringing people and goods from the residential levels here up to the foyer and back again, as smoothly as drifting across a calm pond. But don't worry, I've also re-shaped the spaces underneath into very stable dressed-stone vaults. Now I'm focusing on the area above and beyond the ridgeline, starting about [twenty meters] from the top and then outward to the same [half-kilometer] distance. Among other things, it'll let me start work on the next floor of residences, but...”
Kregorim took a sip of tea, letting a moment pass, then another. “I take it that you wish my opinion regarding possible further developments?” he finally asked.
“Yes. I can easily produce another full floor of single and double units, functionally identical to the floor directly above us, overnight. Additional fabricators might take another day or so, but I have the raw materials necessary to make them.”
“What alternatives do you propose?”
I animated the avatar arching an eyebrow. “At this point, the options include a restaurant and a tavern,” I began, then smirked. “I can set up something resembling a small brewery using the ingredients I've been able to cultivate from the vicinity. Though with the stock of raw materials I know I can access, by tomorrow's dawn you can introduce the Lignignories and their...” I swallowed, unwilling to utter either 'stock' or 'slaves' in reference to that poor group. “... Their servants to one new facility just adjacent to the ground-floor lounge-area. What are your opinions on that facility being a gymnasium to build up their bodies, a spa to refresh them, or what my people call a medical clinic...?”

2024.05.27 01:04 TheAlphaKiller17 Van Leeuwen Buttermilk Berry Cornbread--6.4/10

6.4/10--This ice cream is delicious, but the flavor misses the mark. The base ice cream is supposed to be buttermilk, but it packed the richness of buttermilk. Honestly, there wasn't much flavor to the base. The raspberry swirl is not one that pairs well with cornbread; it's nearly identical to the fruit paste you'd find in a danish or braid pastry. Something akin to the brambleberry swirl in Jeni's I think would go a lot better.
However, the honey cornbread is the star of the show! While the base ice cream doesn't have much flavor, it pairs beautifully with the cornbread. It absolutely tastes like cornbread with honey butter and isn't at all dry in a way that would be off-putting. I'd probably hate this ice cream if not for the cornbread, but it made me like it and I'd buy this again.
