2024.05.13 23:08 Going_Over_Limits Presenting Germany 🇩🇪🇪🇺

Presenting Germany 🇩🇪🇪🇺
  1. Rich History and Culture: Germany boasts a rich history and diverse cultural heritage, with iconic landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, and the historic Cologne Cathedral.
  2. Scenic Landscapes: From the picturesque Rhine Valley to the stunning Bavarian Alps, Germany offers a diverse range of landscapes for outdoor enthusiasts to explore, including forests, mountains, rivers, and lakes.
  3. World-Class Cities: Germany is home to vibrant cities like Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg, each offering its own unique charm, cultural attractions, lively nightlife, and culinary delights.
  4. Cuisine and Beer Culture: German cuisine is hearty and delicious, featuring classics like bratwurst, pretzels, schnitzel, and sauerkraut. Don't forget to indulge in the country's famous beer culture, with traditional beer gardens and Oktoberfest celebrations.
  5. Efficient Transportation: Germany has an efficient and well-connected transportation system, including high-speed trains, extensive autobahns, and reliable public transportation, making it easy to explore the country.
This country appeals to those who appreciate history, nature, culture, cuisine, and urban exploration. It's also an ideal destination for travelers seeking a mix of adventure, relaxation, and cultural experiences.
As for the disadvantages:
  1. Language Barrier: While many Germans speak English, especially in tourist areas, knowing some German can enhance the travel experience and interaction with locals.
  2. Weather Variability: German weather can be unpredictable, with cold winters and variable summers, so it's important to pack accordingly, especially if planning outdoor activities.
  3. Tourist Crowds: Popular tourist attractions and cities can get crowded, especially during peak travel seasons and major events, so it's advisable to plan ahead and book accommodations and tickets in advance.
In terms of prices, Germany can vary depending on the region and season, but it's generally considered to be a moderately priced destination compared to other Western European countries.

2024.05.13 07:53 Initial-Ad8966 Help me remember the name of the restaurant I visited years ago. It's driving me crazy!

I got an amazing pretzel from somewhere. I was kinda tipsy, so I don't remember the name. I can't find it on Google maps etc when searching for "pretzel" "German" etc, and cross referencing street view.
Here's a description:
It was a German/Bavarian place, I believe. They had a great pretzel and a good amount of beers on tap.
IT WAS UNDERNEATH THE EL TRACKS.
Pretty sure it was on the north side, but I'm a bit fuzzy. It was a while ago.
I remember it being next to a street vendor lady that was trying to sell succulents.
I hope someone can chime in with something, because I've really been craving that pretzel and beer cheese lol.
Edit: it wasn't Prost

2024.05.12 00:15 grasspikemusic Bavarian Soft Pretzles

Bavarian Soft Pretzles
These are awesome and here is a phenomenal hack for them. Don't bake them in the oven as the box says. Just put one in the microwave for 30 seconds or two for 45. While you are doing that preheat your air fryer at 350 degrees. They will come out of the microwave hot. Then sprinkle or spray a touch of water on them to make the salt stick and add the salt
Then air-fry at 350 for about a minute and half to two minutes
Simply awesome and so easy

I've been to 3 different theaters in the last month and they're all out of the Bavarian pretzel, but they still have the pretzel bites. I'm upset, I look forward to the massive thing every time but they all just say they've run out :/

2024.04.27 14:09 Artistic-Worth-8154 The emotional connection severed...

I spent 25 years searching for identity and historical connection. I begrudgingly researched my bio father's tree about 5 years ago and discovered a treasure of extremely fascinating people. I fell in love with the history of my current state (not my home state) and felt a DEEP connection to the soil. I came to terms that even if "he" was a terrible guy, his family was amazing to me.
I felt rooted, connected. I go hard with research and fully immerse myself in it. I felt a sense of understanding of how I came to be in the world, until I got my DNA results back.
Immediately, I was upset because there were no matches to the documented ancestors on my paternal side. No Italian from my seafaring sailor gg grandfather, zero German from a fairly recent immigrant, no French from Acadians to Louisiana. Just England and Scottish. Wth? It had to be an NPE so I got to work on my great grandfather who I never worked out his parentage. I was going to make this fit!
I connected with some matches and determined that he HAD TO have been a descendant of this man who'd been close enough to my area at one time. My confirmation bias was strong.
I assumed since my mom was a teen mom, there was only one possibility, so I spent a solid 18 months digging hard. One day I simply couldn't take it anymore and asked her point blank. She was not happy with me for not letting it go.
Long story short, he is not the father. She doesn't know the identity of the party hookup and my matches narrow it down to 3 brothers, none of whom I desire to contact.
I'm embarrassed that I told so many about my cool ancestors. I've told my kids they're part German, Italian, all the stories that connect them to the history of this land. I hosted a homemade Bavarian pretzel party that was supposed to be an annual thing. My son is in a state history class and he got extra credit when he took in a page from a ggg uncle who was one of the first Texas Rangers. 😩 I can't tell my children (middle school age) because then they'll know Grandma wasn't truthful.
I recognize my privilege that I even have access to records and family history that so many Americans were robbed of. My takeaway from the debacle is that the history I learned in the process has given me so much.
I know some of these things are silly, but to my weird brain that seeks connection and understanding, my grief is deep. It has made me want to quit a lifelong hobby and wall it off forever.
Just needed to share somewhere it may be understood. Thanks for listening.

2024.04.19 23:27 RoscoesWetsuitt Just got back home - had a great trip after lurking this sub

Just got back after a few day stay and wanted to say thanks to this sub for great recommendations and to give my thoughts on things. Used this sub for a lot of recommendations and also winged things a bit. As I'm typing this out I'm realizing it's getting kinda long winded lol. Hope it might help some others out.
Sunday - Met friends at Bratz Y'all. Really liked it here. Pretty chill spot, good beers and all the food was phenomenal (Nola shnitzel, pork shank, pretzel with Bavarian caraway brie dip). Checked into the Marriott Warehouse Arts District hotel. Nothing too special but it was a nice hotel aside from being a block away from the shooting on Sunday... Walked down Bourbon mostly for the people watching. Grabbed some beignets at Cafe Beignet (really enjoyed the chocolate beignets) and watched the band for a bit. Got a hurricane at the Pat O'Brien's courtyard, man that thing sucked lol, it's like drinking juice with 5lbs of sugar in it. Walked to the casino, won $200 on a slot and then walked back to our hotel which may not have been the smartest idea, in hindsight. But we made it out alive.
Monday - Turkey and the Wolf for lunch. I can see why this place had a long line. The fried bologna sandwich and collard green melt were phenomenal. Portion sizes were huge and we loved the vibes of the restaurant. Stumbled upon Simon's gallery and the attached antiques shop. Really liked his work and after visiting, noticed a bunch of his pieces throughout the city. Did a self guided walking tour through the Garden District. The gardens, landscaping, architecture were all stunning. Went to Potions speakeasy. That was a super fun experience between finding the place and the actual bar itself. Drinks were a little pricey but highly recommend. Mr. B's for dinner was probably the dining highlight of the trip. Fantastic food and great service (Duck springrolls, seafood gumbo, seared scallops, sheepshead and crawfish, bread pudding, raspberry gooey butter cake). Stopped at Lafitte's for one and walked back to the hotel.
Tuesday - Breakfast at Two Chicks by the convention center. Seated right away, served right away and had some good crepes. Went to the WWII museum and was blown away. So much to see and learn, this place was friggin huge. Highly recommend it. Checked into Hotel Monteleone and loved it. I thought the room was pretty reasonable for how opulent the hotel was. Ate at Felix's Oyster Bar but wasn't that impressed. Food was alright but the place smelled like ass and just seemed kinda dirty. Found some great art galleries on Royal St (Leroy's Place - just super wacky stuff but it was our favorite, Rodrigue studio, Harouni gallery, Henderson gallery). Then went to a show at Toulouse Theater. Nice intimate music venue with super cheap drinks. Got back to the hotel and got our Kevin McCallister on and ordered some room service.
Wednesday - Cafe du Monde in city park. There was hardly a line, got our beignets super quick. Would've loved to spend more time in the park but had to start the drive home.
TLDR: went to Nola (can I say that) ate shit ton and had fun. Thanks for the recs

Happy to start a new life after ending an 8 year relationship with my toxic Ex earlier this year!
26 year old Bavarian dude. Ended an eight year old relationship in January and had a tough time to keep going and not regret my decision of ultimately accepting I was being manipulated and held small and down for so many years.
Now the future is mine! After some hookups my self confidence is already higher than it has been the last years! I am working on myself harder and I am doing the stuff I always wanted to but was held back.
(Sorry for the dirty mirror :D the pic was just intended for a question to a friend about if the necklace is looking okay or too much, but I kind of like the picture :))

2024.04.12 10:00 roundyround22 Elder showed up and shared Neo Nazi thoughts at dinner

This happened a few months ago, but I'm wondering if I should have had a chat with the MP. I'm an expat in Germany and exmo (hubs TBM) but I love taking care of sisters and elders. I set a line with every new missionary that I am happy to function as their American mom, bake for them, let them break rules if they want to play Nintendo, get away from their companion for a bit with a family party, they can share a one minute message but i will not come back.
I very briefly explain that I was abused by a church leader, have panic attacks at church and removed my records and that I will not speak about it with any of them until after their missions. Each and every one has been so respectful of this. It has been wonderful and I've got to help some lovely young people who were homesick or needed some help in bad situations.
One new elder shows up to a BBQ we arranged with new converts and my husband opened up a Q&A to help the missionaries practice their German. One convert asked about the history of the church in our area (a fraught topic anyway, but my husband is very factual and laid it out).
Que 1 week old baby elder from southern Idaho launching into a solemn declaration that the "pure culture of Germany" is being "corrupted by refugees who are ruining the land ". I quietly asked
"You're 18 right?"
"yes"
"how many European history classes have you taken?"
"I took AP world history".
"Ah, okay then. Prior to Hitler coming into power, how many cultures existed in Germany?"
"Uhh you mean before he restored the German culture?"
"No. How would you describe this culture you're thinking of?"
"You know, women in dirndles, men in Lederhose, ... traditional foods"
"Like pretzels?"
"Well yeah!"
He was describing the Bavarians at the German pavilion at Epcot. He doubled down that he was deprived of experiencing true German culture because he served after the refugee crisis started.
"Elder, Germany had an estimated more than 1,000 subcultures with their own clothing, food and language variations that Hitler erased when he chose the Bavarian culture to represent Germany."
He ROLLED HIS EYES. I stood up, almost swinging, then turned around and left.
Apparently after I left my husband informed him that two of the guests at that dinner were in fact refugees, a fact he didn't discern because their German was better than his, he quieted down. Two weeks later this elder wrote me on Facebook and said I needed to "stop being stubborn" and come to church.
So, does the MTC not teach taboo topics anymore? Or culture at all? How is there not some test of knowledge? Everything apparently this kid knows is from old episodes of Hogan's Heroes and dark parts of the Internet. I get he's young and that's why I didn't call the MP, it's his senior comp's responsibility to reign him in but this kid had to be a church liability.

2024.04.01 21:39 quokkaqrazy Is this what it’s like for you too?

For the past few weeks, I’ve cut down my meds (Paxil) for my IBS because I get severely backed up on it and I needed a good poo. Things were going great, until last Friday when I decided to go out to eat with my friends. The whole day I’d been feeling weird in my head and wasn’t hungry, that never happens. I figured maybe if I drank a bunch of water and occupied myself with having fun, I’d forget all about it. I got to the restaurant and things were great! I ordered a big Bavarian pretzel with mustard and some cheese sauce. I ate about 1/3 of it, and then it hit. That wave of nausea that washes over you from head to toe. I put down the pretzel, hoping I could make myself swallow that last bite. I start looking around for the bathroom, knowing this might not end well. I start drinking lots of water, but nope, time to head to the bathroom. I sat down, and it’s like all my organs just fell out of me. I get really hot and sweaty, I check my watch and my pulse is 130. I start shaking, the kind that starts from deep down inside you and rumbles out to your fingers and toes. I look at the little trash can attached to the wall beside me, wondering if I could possibly still sit on the toilet and barf in there at the same time. I manage to get myself together long enough to excuse myself and head to the car, wondering how I’m going to make it home. I get to the car, shaking like a southern Californian earthquake, no saliva in my mouth, with my jaw clenched shut, as if to will the barf to not happen. I turn on the air conditioning in the car, roll down the windows and start the 20 minute drive home. The cold air seems to help a bit. I hit every red light, of course, and feel a fart coming on, but don’t trust it! I get home, and pure liquid comes out. Still hot and sweaty, still shaking violently, still heart racing, still trying not to hurl. The next three hours involve me sitting up (because laying down makes it worse) clenching my pillow rocking back and forth on my bed (repetitive motion helps too). My loving husband rubbing my back to distract me. Waves of nausea flow over me, then I’m fine, then the next wave, then I’m fine, on repeat. Eventually, I stop shaking, I have saliva back in my mouth, I can drink some water again, and I am physically exhausted from all the shaking. I go to sleep, and I wake up perfectly normal again…until the next time. Is this what a flare up is like for you guys? Do your symptoms read like this? This is what I felt like all the time before I got on the medicine. This tends to happen when I miss a dose or try reducing it. Thoughts? Ideas? Similar stories? Thanks. Sorry your intestines don’t work too.

2024.03.16 21:00 13newmoons I brought in over $80k last year with NO job or side hustles, no effort at all.

Updated post with new, more intense sub, both silent and audible and list of affirmations: https://www.reddit.com/Subliminal/comments/1bissmn/from_that_post_i_made_about_the_80k_last_year_and/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
***
It came in through very sudden and unexpected ways.
BTW, I literally gain nothing from this post lol. I don't have a reputation to upkeep, an image to make, YT doesn't make me any money. I'm anonymous here. This is purely my excitement and happiness and hoping to help anyone who it may help. I was in a sad place and I don't want you to be.
Like ... I am FULLY aware of how crazy this sounds. That's why I'm sharing lol.
I was married to someone who didn't let me have any access to money, and I couldn't work and I was in full time college for my 4 year degree while taking care of my family. I literally had no way to make money, I also was struggling with my mental illness and ADHD, and I don't have family or friends or anything nearby. No car.
I spent all my free time trying to escape my life, sleeping or reading.
I had nothing to lose.. like I literally had nothing.
I have tried regular subs, which worked ok but I get annoyed and overwhelmed with repeating sounds and I like to listen overnight or in the background of my day. So I made my own silent subs :)
I know there is discussion on whether they work, but I read up some on the best way to make them so your subconscious absorbs them, and they've obviously done some good things for me.
They've worked so well for me that I thought I would share with others :)
I was going to share a screenshot of a deposit I got in October for over $40k but .. it's my bank account. So. Maybe not.
I only have one of the money/wealth/abundance ones up, but I just started today, so. IDK. If anyone is interested or if these actually work for you and not just for me, I will put up more.
LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LZ8YjW_GYc
It happened very quickly for me, but it is my own voice. Maybe try a week or two? Please let me know if they work for you :)
And I don't care about views, like you can just download the mp3 from a converter and then listen to it on your phone.
We all deserve a beautiful life of riches and dreams. I hope these work for someone too :) There is more than enough for everyone. <3
