How can a company that worth millions perform so bad that is not even working from a user viewpoint, the most important and valuable asset for this kind of company.
Right now I have so much rage and disbelief is not even funny. I know this company will go bankrupt sometime and probably sooner than I think.
MY CASE:
I had an EA account. Unused since 2 years ago or so with some games in it. I bought another EA game in Steam (Lifetime Steam account) last week, battlefield 2042. I tried to execute it and the EA launcher popped out. The message it said: 'The EA account is already linked to another Steam account'. So I coudn't play it.
The EA account probably was hacked because I saw a strange Steam account linked to it, an account that I don't recognize. This EA account also has my lifetime XBOX account linked to it, the real one.
So, here came the problems...

• First, I noticed the account was banned due to some cheat in Apex Legends (I never cheated in my life and this made me so mad).
• This ban, didn't allow me to unlink the steam account because as I said, it was banned.
• I opened a ticket about the ban to remove it from my account.
• I changeg the password and add a second verification step. Guess what, EA sent me an email requesting another password change for 'strange activity'...
• Apparently, today I was able to unlink the steam account from the EA account. Didn't know why because I didn't receive any answer to the ticketing sistem neither to my email inbox.
• More problems, then I tried to link my real lifetime steam account and I coudn't, why? Well, an EA account can only be linked to ONE steam account in it's entire life. WTF IS THIS JOKE?
• Now I have my real XBOX account linked to that EA account and I can't even create a new EA account losing my games on the old, because when I try to create a new one it doesn't allow me to link my XBOX account to the new one, it detects the use of my XBOX account in the old EA account.
• The ticket sistem is so confusing it doesn't let me open any other ticket neither chat or something like that. The info page said that a chat is available, guess what, IS NOT.

So, how do I achieve an EA account linked to my lifetime STEAM and XBOX accounts?
Can't believe how bad this ecosystem works. I'm quitting EA forever because I CAN'T PLAY ALREADY BOUGHT GAMES. And I am sure, that this s*** is happening to a lot of people.

I've found that almost EVERY time I get a user who works for a church, they are incredibly rude, idiotic people who treat customer service like absolute trash. They are horrible. If you have any kind of browser extension or anti-virus that clears cookies on an active basis, that could be clearing the login cookie for WEBSITE and causing you to be logged out. I suggest checking into that. This could be a behavior of the browser itself, an addon/extension of the browser, anti-virus on your computer or even apps/processes being run on your machine by your business (if you are not on a personal device). Also are you running AVG? In most cases, that is the anti-virus which is causing issues with the login cookie.

Today I got my account back after a month of it being hacked and disabled by an unauthorised instagram. If you’re in the UK you NEED to use a VPN for Europe. I used one for France. Unsure if this works for the US.
I followed a few recent threads on here which said to go to this link https://m.facebook.com/help/contact/837980354337486 and fill in the form asking for the date you got hacked, when you last had access, emails and phone numbers linked, I also added my account URL (you don’t need it but it helps) they also ask for an unrelated email that isn’t connected to any meta accounts I also did a brief summary of what happened, my url, my business account links etc.
I sent the request at 1pm and got an email back at around 4 requesting I send a video of me holding a piece of paper with a code on it. First one failed (I think I was too close to the cam) so did a second a little further away and moving my head at around 5.50. Got an email at 8.30 pm that my email had been changed, I got to change my password and use a login code texted to me.
Then I got to disconnect the linked instagram and payment method on my account.
I have my account, business page, and everything I lost back.

This isn't saying that you have to bust out a 5,000 word essay every response or even that I expect a majority of posts to be super long, especially if there isn't much going on to write about. But I can go past the discord character limit 2 or 3 times over in a post before I've written everything I want to get into my reply and I'd like a partner that can go as hard as I do in writing when the situation calls for it.
Schedules and Reply Frequency: I'm a stay at home fiance and that allows me a good bit of freedom when it comes to my schedule, but I also tend to put replying to rps lower on my priority list. I feel like I'm going insane, someone please confirm.
I wanted to make an instagram account (second one, linked to my first one). I pick out a super specific username, search for it, no one is using it. Go to make the account, IG says username available, go through all the steps to set up an account -- at the very end, it gives me an error message. I go back, retype the username -- now unavailable!!
I search for the username again (among existing IG accounts) and see that an account was indeed made in May 2024!!! They must have pressed 'set up' about 1 second before me. I then go through these same steps with a bunch of different variations of the username (using '.' and '_' to separate parts of the same) -- always available at first, then go through the steps of setting up and it shows an error message, then go back to where you type the username and it's unavailable. All variations of that username are unavailable.
I then tried random usernames (like 'donkeys6668972' etc.) -- same thing. To be fair, when I searched (for the random usernames and some of the variations of my preferred username) through the 'accounts' tab, I didn't find any existing accounts using them. So maybe part of this is just an IG error.
I even tried setting up an account on my mom's phone -- same thing!
After about an hour, I finally managed to set up an account (after logging out of everything and using a new email address) using a variation of the username I wanted. Now I want to slightly change that username (think removing the '_') and it's not allowing me to, saying this version is unavailable -- even though when I search for it, there's no accounts using it.
Thanks for any help, really feel like I'm going insane.
TLDR: I am concerned some has hacked my IG, because the usernames I want keep becoming unavailable the moment I go to set up an account.

I commonly see this sentiment that the Internet ruined humanity but I would like to say it's actually humanity that's ruined the Internet. We created the Internet and we've ruined the Internet.
You can't go anywhere on the Internet without coming across some human being shitty. You go on a dating app? Shitty people with fake account after fake account attempting to scam you out of money, or rob you or whatever it is.
You can't go on an online game without some shitty person attempting to ruin everyone else's fun by hacking or actively ruining their gameplay.
You can't post things to sell on marketplaces without being bombarded with bot messages attempting to scam you.
You can't go on social medias/forums without seeing people attempt to manipulate your emotions for their own emotional support/boost (trolling, etc) or just being the utmost typical person/walking trope imaginable.
Everywhere you go on the Internet there's someone attempting to cause you financial, emotional, sometimes physical, etc harm. Yeah there seems to be more good people than not but the others really ruin things a lot of the part even with their minimal numbers.
You can't even make a simple post in a Facebook community without some scam account attempting to get information from you with questions (a lot of them being security style questions) or to get you to tap a link to either put something on your device, log you, etc.
In almost every comment section you see either one of these, a combination of these or all of these; racism, sexism, trolling, anti natalism and just extreme hatred in general, disrespect, being rude/outright, assumptions upon assumptions, the inability to accept people's religious (or lack of) beliefs, personal opinions and other ways of life, others repeating each other's top comments in an attempt to get Internet attention, etc. There's a lot of good comments too don't get me wrong but you're almost never able to go to one comment section without seeing it to some extent.
Then you have the constant political back and forths. The amount of accessible NSFW content to children (and honestly some of it shouldn't be accessible to anyone, adults included). The amount of fucked up/backwards sentiments just freely flowing around. The predatory data farming and information mining. The fact SEO has pretty much been ruined by companies and individuals skewing the search results for their own benefit, the fact AI chats, etc have incorporated into it making so many results just redundant/fake, that companies prioritize money over accuracy/use ability, the fact marketing has been allowed to get to where it's gotten (every single thing on the Internet having marketing connected to it), the people that are out to scam, finesse and outright rob you (eBay, marketplaces, fake Amazon stores, Craigslist, etc).
Unfortunately we as humans have been like this before the internet, the Internet just gave these people a networking platform. Yeah maybe the Internet did influence a lot of people to do these things, or opened more doors to do these things or taught people how to do these things but these things are human society.
The Internet didn't destroy humanity, humanity destroyed the internet, which was supposed to be (and continues to be) a useful tool for countless of things. Human greed, human negativity, human desperation, human selfishness, human ignorance, human hatred, etc all made these things (and the countless more examples I could have given) possible.

This is a on going journey at the moment.
On Sunday, May, 12th my mixrosoft account was hacked. Password and email changed. I now have no access to this account anymore. Ive had this account for over 15 years so you can imagine how much money I spent over the years.I went down the rabbit hole on trying to get in contact with microsoft. As most know, that's a impossible mission.
I did however try to recover my account by sending in a request ticket that can give me access back to my account. Asked for information like email address, secondary email address to send ticket info to, credit card used for purchases (last 4 digits and exp date) gamert tag, console ID and a few other things. After about a hour I recieved a email stating the following:
"Thank you for your Microsoft account recovery request.
Unfortunately, we are not able to assist you with your request. Your Microsoft account appears to be provided by an Internet Service Provider (ISP). Please contact your ISP to assist you with your account recovery.
The account recovery request ********* for the account name@email address will be closed.

Microsoft Support Team

Now obviously, my ISP did not set up my account for me. For 2 days, I tried many different ways to contact Microsoft in order to talk to someone on the phone. All google search ended with numbers for a automated system that tells me to change my password online. No hope of speaking to a human being. Went back to the rabbit hole lurking at different reddit posts and seems like all hope may be gone. I'm too stubborn to allow this to happen. So let the brainstorming begin.
Obviously, the only way to speak to a rep on the phone, you need a account. So I made a dummy email address and a dummy xobox account with a dummy xbox live gamer tag. Went to contact us at this website https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus
Was able to request a phone call about my subscription. Recieved a phone call in less than 2 minutes. Was on the phone with the agent for about 27 minutes.
In that time, I explained the situation. He looked into my compromised account and created a service ticket for me. Then escalated it for the tech department to hopefully get to work on it. I was emailed a long form that asks a lot of information (more than the online account recovery) to prove that I am who I am claiming to be. A victim of a cyber crime. I filled out the form and uploaded to the website that was in the email and forwarded it to the service rep that I spoke with.
I was also instructed to make another account (that's not my dummy account because it already have a gamertag attached to it) the reason for the new microsoft account is if they can recover my hacked account they can migrate all my account stuff (game purchases, cloud game saves, game pass subscription etc) from my hacked account to the new (and hopefully saved account).
Now the wait begins. I will post updates as time goes on. Let's hope for the best

I get an email every day that "Here is your single use code, that you requested to use it with your Microsoft account" .
This has been going on for 2-3 months now.
I am well aware that someone is trying to hack my MS account. I just don't know what to do. I changed my password many times, deleted devices off the account, yet this message keeps coming up, as of someone is trying to hack my acct. The email provides zero options to counter this, other than "if you did not request this code, you can safely ignore it, someone else might have typed your email by mistake". Does someone have an idea what I should do, other than delete my Microsoft account?

Some people say all they need is the non-secret acct & routing numbers. But I've read that individuals can't do this, it needs to be an entity vetted by a bank to initiate an ACH. It seems like the target's bank, Chase in this case, has no security at all, the system is set up that they trust the party initiating the ACH implicitly. Amazingly, even though I caught this nearly immediately and it had not cleared, they were not able to stop the funds from being delivered!
There were no micro-deposits, it doesn't appear the account was actually hacked. There were 3 transactions probably simultaneously to 3 different banks.

Credit One Bank has a rating of 1.2 of 5 out of 750 Amazon reviews! Clearly its pretty sketchy. I'm assuming these guys got their merchant approvals, and bought a pile of acct & routing numbers on the darkweb before doing them all in one day. If they got $12k from my mom, they probably netted millions.
Even if my mother suffering from dementia had given the acct & routing numbers to a phone scammer, they should not have been able to just do this, right? She could not have given them logins, she doesn't know them. Honestly I'd be surprised if she could give them the acct & routing numbers. In any case she no longer possesses any cards or checks, I have them. Don't even get me started on the phone scammers, I've had to buy an Ooma VOIP to be able to whitelist her calls to only contacts.
The acct number has been changed, Chase says she will be refunded eventually. But this is hella disturbing. How can I prevent it if I don't know how it was done? Not to mention that even if she is made whole, basically all banking consumers ultimately pay for this fraud, the banks bottom line never suffers from their sloppiness in leaving customers vulnerable!

UPDATE: I've finished the documentary. It's offensive. No real sympathy for the betrayed spouses whose lives were ruined. Far too much sympathy for the cheating men on the site (because the women were almost all bot accounts.) And way too much focus on the money-hungry "Christian" vlogger couple who are doing so much damage by advertising (because of course they wrote a book) that you have to forgive a cheating spouse because that's what god wants. Respectfully, fuck you.
I'm going to preface this by saying that my now ex-husband was not only a violent, abusive narcissist but also a serial cheater so when AM was hacked I immediately searched the data and was not surprised to find him listed. So, I understand that people are going to cheat regardless but jesus christ that doesn't mean you have to HELP THEM DO IT. Noel Biderman might be one of the most revolting people I've ever heard speak. EDIT: I wrote that last line before I knew he was also a serial cheater who asked escort agencies to send him barely legal teen girls and he'd "choose" one. I mean, I'm not surprised at all, but GROSS.
Here's why I'm making this post though - some of these people being interviewed are actively gaslighting us as the audience. Saying "Ashley Madison taught me that the cheater is not the only one to blame."
Yes, they are. YES, THEY ARE. I have no issue with open/poly relationships that are built on communication, honesty and consent - that's not cheating... but when your partner who has sworn to be faithful to you lies to you, goes behind your back and has an affair (emotional or physical) with another person that is your cheating partner's fault and ONLY their fault. Saying otherwise is so damaging for people who have been hurt in this way, especially if we've also been victims of narcissistic abuse.
I'm still in episode one, so maybe the doc will address this - but so far, the irresponsibility of letting that statement go unanswered needed a response.

I don’t know if any of you have been following the Mica Miller case out of Myrtle Beach. She recently died from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound two days after filing for divorce from her husband who was fourteen years older than her and who was her youth pastor when she was in high school. He is the head pastor of their church.
It appeared to be a pretty open and shut case, but there are all these weird factors involved. Such as:
She alleged in police reports that he’d been grooming her as a teenager
She had filed a restraining order against him
He had made threatening calls to her and to her family
He has her involuntarily committed for psychiatric care in Feb against her will. It’s unclear why, but her family is alleging that he lied and forged documents to have this happen
He placed trackers in her vehicle and hacked her phone. He posted nude photos of her on her fb account and then removed them after an hour
She said she was purchasing the gun that was later used to end her life for self-protection from him
The FBI may or may not be getting involved in the case (local police say yes, FBI is getting involved, family of Mica says they are not as of yet). This may be in relation to financial crimes committed at the church.
Bottom line - this case is a huge mess and I don’t know what to think of it. I was convinced this was her own doing, but the more I see, the more I’m not sure. On the other hand, not sure how much info is accurate, either. There have been some solid news stories about the case that include much of the info I’ve written about here, but there’s a whole brigade of people speculating on Reddit and TikTok. Not sure how much of what they’re saying (allegations not included here) is real, so I’m discounting it for now.

I’d love to know Alice and Brett’s, too, but I’m assuming they won’t touch this one until and unless more comes out that points to foul play (I think at this point, they’d probably say it was self-inflicted based on evidence, namely that there is video evidence of her purchasing a gun and, most compellingly, a 911 call from right before from Micas phone telling the operator that she was going to unalive herself).

Hello everyone, welcome to the third discussion about Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. Hope you studied hard this week, I sure did!

Summary

Previously, in Thinking Fast and Slow, we followed Kahneman and Amos’s academic bromance in the wonderful world of decision making and biases. Our two main characters model two kinds of behavior of the brain. System 1, always on, is the intuitive one, that makes continual judgments and assumptions. System 2 is the slower one, only called when necessary, that produces rational thinking, mathematical reasoning, and is awfully lazy. We learned that even specialists are really bad at intuitive statistics and apply the law of small numbers when they shouldn’t.
Chapter 11: Anchors When we are asked to consider a possible solution to an estimation problem (eg, did Gandhi die after 100 years old?), our answer will be close to this number, like it’s anchored to it. Even when the proposition is obviously unrelated, like with a rigged wheel of fortune. It has many consequences, like with real estate prices and every negotiation. If someone starts one with an absurd price, make a big fuss and stop it until a more reasonable offer.
Both systems cause this behavior. System 1 because of priming (unconscious influence of a previous information). System 2 makes us start at the anchor, and then adjust, often not enough.
Btw, here are the answers to the questions, it annoyed me that they weren’t in the book. Washington became president in 1789. Waters boils at around 70°C/160°F on top of the Everest. Gandhi died at 78 years old.
Chapter 12: Availability We learn about the availability bias. When we are asked to estimate the frequency of an event, our answer depends on how easily we can retrieve examples from our memory. The more dramatic and personal the example is, the more it works. Making people list examples increases the perceived frequency, except when you ask too much. Finding 12 examples of something is hard, and your brain will interpret the cognitive fatigue as a less frequent phenomenon.
Chapter 13: Availability, emotion and risk Our perception of risk is biased by availability and the affect heuristic. If you feel strongly about something negative, you will evaluate the risk as stronger. It’s especially true with very small risks such as terrorism, which our brain is really bad at evaluating (it’s either ignored or given too much weight). And a recent disaster in the news will make us renew our insurance policies. There is a very negative correlation between benefit and risk in the mind of people. This means that if a technology is perceived as highly useful, you will perceive it as less risky, and vice versa.
Kahneman then presents two philosophies about risk assessment and how it affects public policy. There can be availability cascades around public panics such as the Love Canal controversy, fed by media frenzy and politics. Slovic thinks that risk being not objective (it depends on what parameter we prioritize, such as lives or money), the perception of the citizens should never be ignored. Sunstein wants risk experts to rule, because public pressure make the biased lawmakers prioritize the use of tax money inefficiently. Kahneman wisely stays in the middle of this merciless academic scuffle.
Chapter 14: Tom W Tom W is a fictional university student invented by Kahnmos. The goal of the exercise is to guess his specialty. The subjects are told the proportion of the students in each specialty (the base rate, humanities being more probable than STEM), and sometimes a (dubious) psychological profile. He’s described as a nerdy asocial guy who likes bad puns, and if you’re judging him, remember you’re on reddit, so don’t throw any stone here. Most people, even specialists, will infer that Tom studies Computer Science, despite the probabilities given by the base rate, that mean it is more probable for him to study Humanities. It’s because this tells a better story (they choose representativeness instead of base rate. Even if the added information is dubious. Once again, if system 2 is activated (eg by frowning), people will get closer to the base rate.
Kahneman then gives us advice to discipline our faulty intuitions. You just have to use Bayes’s rule and multiply probabilities in your head! Easy. If you cannot do that, I’m sorry you’re an embarrassment to your family and country, but just remember to stay close to the base rate and question the quality of the evidence.
Chapter 15: Linda or less is more Linda is another fictional character created to make us feel bad. She’s described as a left-leaning politically engaged woman. What is more probable, that she’s a bank teller or a feminist bank teller? Most people will choose the second. The problem is that feminist bank tellers are a subset of bank tellers, so there’s less of them (all feminist bank tellers are bank tellers, whereas only some bank tellers are feminist). So it’s mathematically less probable. However, it’s more plausible, tells a causal story, so our System 1 likes it. It’s called conjuction fallacy.
Apparently, Linda caused another controversy in the field of psychology, but Kahneman doesn’t go into details, probably to protect his readers from the gruesome imagery.
Chapter 16 Causes trump statistics We go back to a Tom-like experiment, comparing base rate to other information. When the base rate is neutral, people don’t care about it. But when it is causal and tells a story, the brain will take it into account more. The story (here, it is that a company’s cab cause most of the accidents) creates a stereotype in our head. And in this case, stereotyping helps improving the accuracy of our intuitions.
The author then discusses how to teach psychology to students. He describes the help experiment, where people isolated in booths heard a stooge pretending to die. A minority of people went to help, because of the dilution of responsibility (”someone else can do it!”). When faced to this result, most students accept it but it doesn’t really change their views, in particular of themselves. However, when shown some individuals and their choices, their ideas really evolved. Once again, we suck at statistics and love to make stories from anecdotes. But now we can hack it?
Chapter 17 Regression to the mean Every performance has a random element. That means that if someone has an exceptionally good run, in sports for instance, their results will go down in the future. The opposite is also true. This is called regression to the mean and happens all the time when there is randomness involved. But our brains love causality and will invent a story around it. For instance, this air cadet performed better the second time because I yelled at him, not because of randomness catching up with his bad luck. That’s why we need control groups in every experiment, because many sick people will get better because of time and statistics.

A week ago I received an email saying that "We charged $1,130.00 to your credit card ending in XXX to fund your OpenAI API credit balance." My account spending limit was set to $100 and I did not receive any notification about my limit being increased.
Meanwhile, I lost access to my own organization in the dashboard so I can't even see the details how the heck I was charged $1,100 while my actual spending in the past was about $50 tops. My first reaction was that my account was hacked. I still have no clue how it happened. All of my login credentials are 2FA'ed and I do not otherwise see any sign of hacking.
Contacted OpenAI's support and it's been nearly two weeks, and they simply stopped responding to my message asking for an update.
I had no choice but resort to the credit card dispute process, because my bank recommends filing any dispute within 30 days of the actual occurring of the charge.
Looks like OpenAI is busy with their big launches and simply ignores the good old mantra of keeping customers satisfied.
Guys, protect your account, and be careful signing up to services. I don't know but maybe set up some credit card limit from your bank's side to defend against a situation like this.
