Effective Death. At least that’s what the news was calling it. The day the world wouldn’t end. Life could go on! It wasn’t over. You could still huddle around the last fires. Smoke the last cigarettes. Have the last children, though no one did.
Instead, they all watched. The slow dimming of light of the last supernova. A thousand little eclipses snuffed out the light as the Final Embrace closed around the star. We would not burn. We could die naturally. Charity. The Plan. The Plan wasn’t much of a Plan at all, and it definitely did not deserve a capital “P.” The universe would die. The Ark would wait. Maybe the universe wouldn’t die.
Then, a pinprick of light in the blackness, and another, and another. A tangled ball of christmas lights flashed in the sky, blinking on and off as people, my people, YSAs, flew headlong into the Ark. We all knew it was a meaningless gesture. One last light in the sky. Then nothing. Nothing more than a gesture: a middle finger among friends, and to people like me - cowards who would rather wait patiently for death than rage! “Rage against the dying of the light!” as their leaders preached. I didn’t care. There was a small chance I’d survive the crash, and then I would have to drift, and drifting was no fun. I’d rather be dead on a dead rock than be a dead rock.
Dehydration was my best bet. You see, Your Friend Corp, or as I called it now You’re Fucked, Cunt had made me into a Yakka Service Android: Lathe. Or YSA for short. And when I say made, I mean made. Per my contract, My DNA was a mishmosh of latent genes reactivated, entirely novel sequences, and of course, the tardigrade - the base model for spaceborne labor. Vacuum, heat, cold, radiation. A small shield powered by a miniature fusion reactor meant I could shrug off wandering asteroids. I didn’t need any PPE because I was the PPE. Cheaper, I guess. Making a welding arc was as simple as squeezing two fingers together, diamond nails and a skeleton of superheavy alloys let me fix anything that needed fixing and make anything that needed making. My copilot AI, Albert, kept my hands steady and made my new diet of ‘whatever’s around’ palatable.
The thing that needed fixing in this case, was my television. I had had enough of “effective death.” I spun up one wrist, and reached in. Shards of glass and blue-hot metal chips bounced off my naked body. Clothes were for those who needed them. I traced a slow serpentine pattern until only the power cord was left, which I unplugged. I looked at it for a moment, then began to chew it. Fruit roll ups, apparently.
‘Thanks Al’ I thought. ‘No problem’ he replied. ‘I was supposed to kill you, you know’ he continued.

‘You always said thank you’ He was silent for a moment. ‘I don’t want to die either.’

We sat in silence, and we waited. For what, we did not know. For nothing, probably. Technically, definitely.

Three weeks passed. Three weeks of nothing but blackness, punctuated by suicides. A small flash of light, a dull red glow of the now proverbial last cigarette, and a larger flash, and a bang. Slowly, people began to wake up. Lights shone in the distance now, as people realized they weren’t dead. Campfires billowed smoke, songs were sung, jokes were told, and I sat in silence. I didn’t want to make any friends. They’d all go away, in the end.
One by one, the fires burned to ash, the lights turned off, and the rock died. I often debated with myself if I was alive anymore. Al told me that since I could reproduce and poop that I counted. I wasn’t sure.
Maybe there were other cowards still alive. Other YSA’s living off dirt that tasted like mashed potatoes, tossing grape pebbles into their mouths. Maybe someone survived the crash, and is still drifting, a not dead rock dying of dehydration like I am. Trying to at least. I kept taking one last sip. Coward I thought to myself.

I always liked the old things, back from when Earth still existed. There was more culture, more life, in everything, somehow. Blue jeans, a white t-shirt, brown leather boots. Classic. Not real, of course. They were all made from the same poly-something textile. Durable, to a fault. I had only ever had the one set.
I looked in the mirror. I still looked the same on the outside. I was a skinny bastard that’s for sure. Olive skin, dark hair, and not a strand below the eyebrows except under my armpits and around my cock. ‘The biggest dick in the world’ I thought to myself.

The “ol girl” in question was another of my fascinations with the old world. She was, or at least she looked like, a 1980 Toyota Corolla. I had made some heavy, heavy modifications. The engine bay houses the reactor and warp field generator. The main engine takes up the entire trunk, and is capable of 5% light speed outside the warp field and a whopping thousand times the speed of light inside it, though I keep the warp field up whenever I’m in it since it doubles as a shield. Ya can’t get hit by space if you’re not technically “in” space after all, and the body is plain ol painted steel - fire engine red, since you asked. Beautiful, but not the most durable. The undercarriage serves as a gravity generator, and yes, the wheels do turn, but since they’re powered by fusion reactor I had to replace the entire drivetrain. Not exactly original, but boy howdy! is she fast on the ground. Speaking of not original, the dashboard was anything but. I kept the old analog style but well, this was a spaceship after all.
I shoveled dirt into the fuel tank - gas tanks they used to call them, when they still ran on gas - then got in and turned the key. The low hum of the reactor was comforting, though not as much as the roar of the engines as I left the dead atmosphere of that now definitely dead rock behind me. I turned on the headlights - pointless, I know, but you shouldn’t drive in the dark with your lights on, and pulled a small bottle of moonshine from the glovebox. You shouldn’t do that either, but I figured I was about even as far as rules went. What was I going to do? Hit someone?
“Hey Al. Do you think you have a soul”
“Probably not.”
“That sucks.”
“Yeah.”

I stopped the car. Al played the sound of tires screeching in my ears. I backed up towards the now spinning uncontrollably figure and rolled down the window. I liked the manual windows. They helped me feel human. I turned off the warp and reached out a hand to catch whoever it was, and they slammed against the side of my car, denting it. Damn it.
I’m not great at reading lips but whoever I hit was definitely alive, very naked, probably the most gorgeous woman I had ever seen, and was almost certainly calling me an asshole. She crawled around to the passenger door and got in. We rolled the windows up, and the cabin atmosphere flooded in. Now she was definitely going to call me an asshole.
“Why the fuck are you wearing sunglasses?” She said.
“Style.” I replied. “I’m going to go die. Want to come?”
“Better than drifting.”
“Where’s your AI?” said Al? I don’t detect one, and your hands are shaking.
“Killed him before he could kill me. Why didn’t you kill this idiot?”

I was (poorly) homeschooled for a long time, so I was never really around people besides my family. I began school recently, though, about 6 months ago, and I think I’ve got my first crush???
This is the best!! I’m having so much fun! I have someone to giggle over! I blushed talking to him! I’m listening to lovey pop songs and I’m thinking, yes, I get it now! It’s beautiful! It’s an amazing feeling!
He’s a pretty quiet guy, but everything he says is so thoughtful and smart. But he’s not completely distant or wrapped up in school - he’s fun! He has such a nice laugh. He can get along with anyone, but he still hangs out mostly alone. He reads books!! He dresses so nicely. He has really nice hands. He always tries to include me since I’m pretty shy and hesitant to intrude on other people’s space. He’s so sweet.
I usually don’t talk to him one-on-one outside of class. I don’t want to bother him. But he laughs at my jokes sometimes, and if we’re sharing projects, he always has something nice to say about mine. We banter back and forth when we’re in the same group. I always sort of noticed him, but when he rested his hand on my shoulder one time, I was like, oh. Yeah. This must be a crush.
During the solar eclipse, my school had a break in the day to go out and see it. Everyone was in their own little groups talking and laughing, but he was kind of off on his own, with his own little bubble of space around him, and he put his glasses on and looked up and the sun was literally shining down on him.  | Apologies if my descriptions are not clear! I'll do my best to describe the situation and what I need help with. submitted by Realistic-Weird-4259 to Tile [link] [comments] We decided to update and improve our main bathroom. I replaced the vanity countertop, faucets, and painted the cabinet body. Replacing the top meant that I have to install a backsplash as the old top had it built in. I've chosen and begun installing tiles that match the wall color beautifully, but! I don't know how to create a finished look with no good edge/finish tile options that match the main tile. The issue with the main tile is that it hasn't been glazed on the edges, so you can see the terracotta it's made of, so it needs something to finish. I've looked at Schluter edges but decided against initially in favor of matching caulk, and as you can see have already begun installing the tile so I don't know that it could be retrofitted for the first row of tiles. If it can be, it goes back into the Consideration Rotation but I'd need to learn how to retrofit (pointers appreciated). I am only installing two rows of the ceramic tile. We'll be framing the mirror with painted wood or similar, no tile. I bought white glass pencil liners and they are beautiful! But, they're thick and I'm not so sure I want to use them around the wall outlet [_] Keeping in mind that the tile will only be going partway up the outlet, I initially thought I'd wrap the glass liners around the outlet to where the backsplash will come up, but then it I imagine it becoming far too busy looking and the thing I LOVE about the ceramic tile I bought is how its look is a mixture of very clean and simple while also referring natural finishes. My goal is clean and simple design here, so I think the cleanest look will be using the glass tile across the top only, but that will leave the sides of the ceramic around the outlet exposed. In the photos you'll see what I have installed already and the glass pencil liners I would like to use finish the top edge. You may not be able to see that they're about double the thickness of the ceramic tile though, so they project just a bit and that's part of the problem I'm envisioning about wrapping it around the outlet. I am using AcrylPro tile adhesive and Mapei Keracolor grout with the matching caulk to use at the plane changes, which I've also considered using to cover the edges of the ceramic at each end and around the outlet, but again, I'm not sure that's a great idea. How would you approach this? I am having an issue where captains shocking beacons work as normal when placed, but as soon as any enemies are close to them they entirely stop working until there are no longer enemies in range of them. Was wondering if there are any mods that cause that issue that people know about.

Gum Wrap: Xpore throws a pinkish symbiote substance called Hyphae where it shapes and molds like a sticky web when the opponent touches it will result to a slowed pacing of whatever position they are in. b. Army Trap: Xpore spurts from his back a piece of symbiote (Hyphae) seed. If an opponent manages to touch it, will ensnare and hang them from the ceiling thus giving Xpore a chance to hit them. c. Body Stretch: Xpore will make extensions of his punches and kicks using his Hyphae powers, similar to Dhalsim of Street Fighter. d. Immobile Porcupine: Xpore kneels on one knee, one fist to the ground and looking downwards where he suddenly surrounds himself with long needle-like spikes serving as both defense and offense. As an opponent is hit, he or she quickly jumps back in agony like being pricked by a sharp object accompanied with a surprise. e. Mobile Porcupine: Xpore can anytime summon his long needle-like spikes when moving or doing combos. The same result of jumping back due to a surprising prick occurs, where another combo can possibly be executed. f. Swing-off: Xpore can create vines with his Symbiotic Hyphae. He can use these to swing back and forth for an opportunity to attack or escape. Fatalities: a. Mush: Xpore will plant a small piece of mushroom/fungus in to the opponents head where it will suddenly grow gigantically by sucking them dry leaving only dried skin and bones. b. Meat my Cleaver: Xpore rotates clockwise like a whirlwind with his long cleaver where he will separate the bones, meat and skin cleanly from each other showing all three dropping to the floor at the same time from a standing position when he finished. c. Snack Time: He takes off his mask to show a caricature of a human face (sculpted eyes minus the sockets, two nose holes minus the bridge, and a sculpted mouth minus the hollow part). He then proceeds to jump and slither out of his outfit through his mask, leaving the ensemble to fall unto the ground. Third, he wraps himself around the opponent where he/she begins to stick to him like gum and starts to become one with him (like John Carpenter's The Thing). Lastly, he returns to his outfit and reforms back to his former self and then burps. Bio: After learning the plans of Argus regarding the upcoming Armageddon, another elder god decided to create two power-charged humans that will bring balance to earthrealm. Their sole purpose, is to create life after another where all humans will soon be replaced by new powerful beings through the new Genesis where they will again balance the world, as viewed by the said elder god. The two creations take in the forms of a man and a woman. The woman was Lunaere. After they were sent down to earthrealm, Shinnok happens to find out and sent his warriors in order to retrieve them and have the supposed surrogate parents killed. Their orders lead them to a section of the Living Forest. When they arrived, however, they saw that the man died for some unknown reason and is now being consumed by one of the sentient trees. Plenty of his blood spilled over an open field. When the general who were sent to retrieve them only had Lunaere presented, he quickly reported the demise of her other half. Shinnok then sent The Gardener to confirm the reports. Once he arrived on location, he saw that the open field where blood from the humanoid spilled all over had blossomed in to various plant-like organisms. The Gardener also quickly noticed that these fungi were alive and are very aggressive. They are also very territorial and potent against any intruders within their radius. In the coming years, he created a massive spherical greenhouse. Made of octagonal glass panels, he thus aptly named it as the Great Terrarium. There, he ran experiments on each of these fungi. One specie, in particular, captured his interest. This one was the most lively of the group. One day, he decided to create a living being out of this fungus. After a couple of failed trials, he finally was able to successfully create a mobile humanoid being. Although it takes the silhouette of a man, upon closer inspection, The Gardener noticed that it lacks the facial features of a person except for the eyes (and somewhat a nose hole structure). Further revelation showed that the intelligence or the brain of this creature is closely associated to this organ. Both the eyes and the brain can travel in to various parts of his body and can burst out as a growth in any part of the epidermis to show where his consciousness presently lies. Shinnok congratulated the caretaker for a job well done after he presented his creation to the elder god. Shinnok, in turn, gave this creation his name. He is to be called Xpore. The elder god then ordered for Xpore to be trained as a soldier as he sees him to be his ultimate living weapon, along with Lunaere, later on. When Xpore met Lunaere for the first time however, an inherent emotion immediately developed within him. Apparently, the persuasion of the elder god that created them, is still very much active within his being. The two quickly developed a mutual understanding that they kept hidden from their recent masters. Over the years, Xpore indeed became such weapon as Shinnok had anticipated while Lunaere became weaker. Lunaere angered Shinnok as this was not his plan. Although Xpore seeing Shinnok treating Lunaere the way as he did, put a distance to Shinnok and Xpore's relationship. Shinnok was aware of this. One day Xpore overheard Shinnok and Reptile talk about a certain possession to take place by an umibozu's soul. This was Shinnok's plan in order to keep Xpore at bay. However, Xpore learned it was Lunaere to be possessed. As he rushed towards her only learning that it was too late did he promised her that he will do anything to cure Lunaere and make Shinnok pay for what he did. Xpore decided to leave in search of a cure for Lunaere as he leaves her in Shinnok's palace. Along the journey, he manage to cross paths with Ashrah where she decided to teach him more combat styles while searching at the same time the cure for his love Lunaere. Stage Relationships: a. Slaughterhouse: This is where Xpore got his Cleaver weapon from. b. The Great Terrarium Trivia: a. Xpore is the only character that is mute due to an absence of mouth.
