2024.05.13 04:30 Gamer_Rink_3141 Why don’t Tamil movies shoot in USA/Canada

I’m low key kinda getting sick and tired of Chennai being the same film location over and over again. Nothing wrong in it, but change is good sometimes. It’s time for some scenery change. Usually Tamil movies never come to western countries and make film setting their. If they make it in a foreign location, it’s always Malaysia/Singapore or Australia if they want a western location setting. It would be cool for a something like a Vijay/Ajith film or any tamil actor to take place in America, showcasing typical Indian American lifestyle and the dance sequences in the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone would be sick. I think it would resonate with Tamil American diaspora (the largest western Tamil community) pretty well and give an insight on North America lifestyle too kind of like what Bollywood did with Uk. There where tons of hindi movies set in UK, but only like a handful of Tamil movies set in the USA which i find odd because the usa/canada tamil audince really gave a ton of support to the industry for years, it would be nice if Kollywood decided to make a film depecting the lifestyle in north america as a love letter to all the fans of kollywood abroad and it would make more films relatable as well. imagine the storylines you could have just by setting it in the capital of the world and in freaking hollywood for crying out loud. I just want a typical Tamil movie set in USA, not something like Kabali or Jagame Thandiram(although a story about tamil gangs in toronto would be cool), just a lightheaded Tamil movie set in Miami for example, it would be pretty cool setting lmao, Chennai kinda gets old after a while, more cities should be shown on the big screen. it would be cool if they shot more Tamil movies in the USA portraying the Indian American lifestyle like how they do with Singapore or Malaysia. What do you guys think?

2024.04.28 13:14 DevilBlade69 How come most actors know Telugu well?

Ppl like Rajini, Kamal, Dhanush, Ajith, Vikram, Raghava Lawrence, Vishal, Jayam Ravi, SJ Suryah etc.
Just like how nearly all Malayalam actors know Tamil.

So I was watching laapata ladies and one of the characters phool who befriends a samosa seller in station goes by name manju Mai in the movie ..she looked eerily similar I thought I saw her in some movie, later it stuck me I thought I saw her as kanta Bai in sacred games ..but did a search later found both the actors are different....shalini vatsa for sacred games and chaya kadam for laapata ladies, does anyone find them similar as well ..
Movie is amazing btw 😍

2024.04.06 13:35 EccentricBai The hidden messages of Om Shanti Om REVEALED. Divya’s Life

Source - https://tintalee.tumblr.com/post/6063922731/the-hidden-messages-of-om-shanti-om-revealed
DONT BE AFRAID OF THE LENGTH! IF YOU ENJOY ANYTHING ABOUT MYSTERY , BOLLYWOOD, OM SHANTI OM , SHAHRUKH or MURDER , YOU WILL DEFINATELY ENJOY THIS. ITS WORTH IT
In the following note I might seem a bit obsessive and slightly possesed...don't worry, it's simply mind boggling and interesting, I feel like im Sherlock Holmes, you'll realize why if you read this.
[ATTENTION: If you plan on reading this to the full extent, make sure you read it THOUGHROUGHLY for less confusion, take your time or else it will be confusing...theres no other way to uncover this]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXmL7WpMyu4
In the video above, you will witness a very young sexyfied , super, hot, cute , amazing , gorgeous..Shahrukh Khan. We all know, that he is the ruler of this Earth. [Ok, I'm already side tracked].
Forget about Shahrukh for a bit [Did I just say that?], Do you recognize the girl? Probably not. The movie was called Deewana, the girls name is Divya Bharti. She began acting after quitting college at the tender age of 16 and stopped acting at the age of 19. She was famous, yet nobody really remembers her. She was going to be big, everyone could tell. She was the girl in the famous song Saat Samundar.
[ATTENTION: SPOILERS FOR OM SHANTI OM AHEAD] [Side note: If you've seen OSO then you probably dont have to read the following paragraph, its just a review of the movie but it'd be a good refresh of the brain. If you HAVENT seen OSO, I tried explaining it to ALMOST the best of my abilities....Good luck]
Bored yet? Ok, fine. Let's move on to more cooler things. Let's talk about Om Shanti Om the movie. With the...sexyfied, super, hot, cute, amazin, gorgeous.. Shahrukh Khan. We all know, that he is the ruler of this Earth. [Yes I know, shutup =)] In the movie Om Shanti Om, he falls for an actress, Shantipriya [Deepika Padukone...that saali..Ye what!? I don't like her]. He is only an aspiring actor who badly wants to be one and looks up to Shantipriya for this. Shes "hot", new, upcoming, and shes already a star thats moving on to bigger things. She has secretly married a film producer. The film producer later on..viciously murders her and Shahrukh is also killed. Correct? After that, Shantipriya is "reborn" with this undeniable resemblance to a woman named Sandhya [Sandi]. Shahrukh is also "reborn" and becomes a movie superstar! Bigger than life itself. Sandi was reborn as a normal girl, shes obsessed with Shahrukh now, the big star. [Like me!] Shahrukh the big star begins to remember his past life and how he loved Shantipriya and that she was grusomely killed. He knows who killed her, he witnessed it. Her husband killed her, and her husband is still alive, and worse...he knows him. He makes it his buissness to make a movie dedicated to Shantipriya, but more so to freak out her unsuspecting husband[ remember, he's the film producer, just older now]. So he finds Sandhya [Sandi] , Shantipriyas look-a-like. Sandhya, basically takes over for Shantipriya and finishes her unfinished buisness in the movie world by haunting her killer [her husband] in the form of a series of preformances and a movie, with the help of the sexified, super, hot, cute , amazing , gorgeous..Shahrukh Khan.
Heres where I bring to you my fellow peers..my gruesome discovery. Honestly, it doesnt get much better than this. This my friends...is MY bollywood movie.
You might be asking yourself right now if I have ADHD, or if i'm slightly crazy since I've been talking about two seperate things. What does Divya Bharti have to do with the movie Om Shanti Om?
My answer...EVERYTHING.
I never finished the real true in depth story of Divya Bharti. She stopped acting at the age of 19. Any guesses why? ...She died. Uptil now, her death is a mystery. She fell off of a 5 story building.
How though? Was it an accident, a drunken state? Was it suicide? Or maybe...just maybe...did her film producer husband kill her? WHOA WHOA WHOA..wait a minute Tintalee...What are you talking about.
Divya Bharti married a Film Producer...secretly. Have you linked what I linked yet? ..His name? Sajid Nadiadwala. [Yep thats right...the same dude that recently made Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Jaanemann and Heyy Baby]
Thats not all. What was Shahrukhs first life name in Om Shanti Om..Oh Yes, Om Prakash right? ....Hey did I mention to you what Divya's full name was?
Divya Om Prakash Bharti. Are you spooked yet?
What are you trying to say Tintalee? Im trying to say, that Om Shanti Om wasn't created for nothing. This is where my obsessive weird side comes out. Shahrukh co-acted with Divya in 1992. I think that OSO is Shahrukhs perspective on what happened to Divya. Perhaps his opinion, perhaps he knows something. I think Shahrukh thinks that Divyas husband killed her.
But wait, Shahrukh was just an actor in Om Shanti Om, so how could he have changed the whole story into what he wanted. WRONG AGAIN peeps. First off, Shahrukh is the bomb, he gets what he wants...but most importantly, some people forget that OSO's producer...was none other than Shahrukh Khan himself.
In the movie OSO, when "Shantipriya" died, "Sandhya" , her absolute look-a-like, took her position. When Divya died, some of her movies were left incomplete...Sridevi [One of my faves] took Divyas place. Has anyone ever seen Divya and Sridevi beside eachother? Look at the picture posted below. ..Anything else I can do to convince you?
In the movie, Shahrukh creates a stunning preformance infront of Shantipriyas killer to scare him.... In real life, Shahrukh made this movie...to scare Sajid?
Other little bits that I noticed were that...
*SRK has NEVER acted in any of Sajid's movies..UP TILL NOW. There is news that they are coming out with their FIRST film together THIS year called "Two States". Lets see how that goes. Wonder why it took so long..
[Update Jan 2012: It was recently announced that SRK is being replaced by Ranbir Kapoor for the movie "Two States."] Ahem, wonder why. (thank you srkjuhi.tumblr.com for that info)
Taking everything into consideration, in the end...I'm convinced that Om Shanti Om was created by Shahrukh Khan in Divya's memories and that there is some underlying message about Divyas husband.
So, what dyou think? [A little side note, Sajid had mafia relations...]
[Copyrighted idea of Tintalee ©] -I understand if you google this subject you might find one or two people that thought of this too, however, they didnt go in depth or anything, so I'm going to deem myself the sole creator of the in depth analysis of OSO and Divya B. RECOGNIZE =)]
----The following was written June 1st 2011: When I wrote this article, I was stumped because everything linked up perfectly except the name Sandhya. I searched and searched but found nothing. 2 Years later, My friend Shalini read this article in depth [thanks] and made the discovery that I couldn't. "Divya got married to Sajid in the presence of her hairdresser Sandhya, the hairdresser's husband and a kazi at Tulsi apartments..."---
Lets see, was the name Sandhya used in the film too? Well, obviously. I'm convinced Shal. You're awesome. And SRK... I have your back.
Go to 6:00 minutes in the video below.. I believe what SRK says there is the essence of what the whole movie is about.

Recently watched YA in youtube and to my surprise this movie aged well. Those 170 odd minutes went like a flash and all the actors performed well. And man Ajith looked super classy and very beautiful throughout the movie. Wish someone bring back this getup back in his upcoming movies.

2024.03.23 08:45 Fishyraven Varalaru - Ajith : One of the biggest risks taken by a top actor

submitted by Fishyraven to kollywood [link] [comments]

2024.03.22 05:37 Existing-Area-9093 Ajith Kumar's interview with Rediff in 2012. His last press interview to date. (Slightly lengthy.)

Ajith Kumar, fondly called 'Thala' by his fans in Tamil Nadu is also described as the King of Opening. But this unassuming actor does not believe in such superlatives. He also does not like to talk about or promote his films, which is unusual in these times of aggressive marketing.
He is guarded and cautious in his opinions. In place of the carefree, impulsive young man I met several years ago, is a 41-year-old, grey-haired, mature man who believes that living life and loving are more important than anything else in life.
In this rare and exclusive interview, Ajith has chosen to talk more about life than films.
The first time I met you was in 1995 when you were recuperating from a bike accident. What was in your mind then? Dreams?
I was too young to comprehend what was happening. Getting back to normality was my priority. I did not think about anything beyond that. My health was the only priority and my road to recovery took all my time.
Are you not a dreamer?
Aren't we all dreamers? It's only because man dreamt of flying that we are travelling in planes. Behind all inventions, we see the dreams of people. I am glad that mankind on the whole are dreamers.
By the year 2000, your film career was flourishing and you had a lot of fans and fan clubs. How did you react to this sudden mass adulation?
I was the first person from my family to enter films. So, everything connected with films was new to me, including fans and fan clubs.
It took me some time to cope with the way the industry functions, and how it doesn't work at times. It has been a learning process for me. Yes, it took time for me to come to terms with what was happening around me.
Let me put it this way: What I feel for my fans is something that cannot be described in words. All I want to say is that they are in my prayers and I wish them all very well.
Did you try to analyse why so many people adore you?
No, not at all. I was always focused on what was given to me. Yes, I was conscious of what was happening around me, but I tried to stay focused on my work and the responsibilities connected with my work.
Did you enjoy the love and adulation of people?
More than enjoying it, I looked on it as a huge responsibility. I am more conscious about not misusing the adulation.
I am aware of the love they have for me, and that is why I said, I pray for them. I only tell them, look after your parents, God will look after you.
I don't expect anything else from them other than their love. Nothing less, nothing more.
Fans blindly follow film stars and do whatever they do. Isn't that scary?
You are demeaning people by saying that. I have a lot of respect for people, and I feel they are far more sensible and responsible than to ape or imitate somebody.
If at all something like that happens, it's a rare case. I don't think it is something that we need to look down upon.
You surprised all when you chose to act with grey hair in Mankaatha.
I don't think I did anything unusual or brave. The protagonist of the film was a politically incorrect character and the role demanded that I appear in a certain way.
It is not that I wanted to do what no one else has done or anything like that.
So, unlike what many people think, you were not influenced by the George Clooney look?
Honestly, it just happened and it is an honour to be compared to such a huge star.
As a star, are you not bothered about your physical appearance?
I am not so critical about myself and my looks. Physical appearance also is linked to what you can adapt to and what you cannot. Everybody here knows about my health issues.
It is said that actors are narcissists. Are you one of them?
If you need an honest answer, you should ask those who worked with me and interacted with me. I can't comment on what I am. How can I answer about my own character?
Being an actor does not mean that I am from Mars or any other planet. I am as normal as any other human being. I experience the same emotions as anybody else.
I don't think I am any different. I am an actor by profession. It is my job and that is all.
Do you try to analyse your film career or yourself as an actor?
Life is not only about being successful. Life is about experiencing, faltering, falling down and then getting up and moving ahead till you meet the next hurdle, again falling and getting up...
I am never afraid of failure. Nobody should be scared of failure. Why I say is, failure teaches us more about life than success.
Some people are scared to try new things for fear of not succeeding. They think, what if I do not succeed... That thought, I think is the biggest stumbling block one can put for one self.
Life is not only about what you achieve but about what you learn in the process. You may have achieved so much in life but may not have learnt anything.
What is happiness to you?
Happiness is to be content with what we have and accept what is given to you by life.
Contentment is the first sign of happiness. There is a time for everything in life.
The root problem behind unhappiness is when you constantly want to accumulate, accumulate and accumulate.
Are you not ambitious?
There has to be a relation between ambition and your abilities. You try to understand your shortcomings and try to achieve something that is within your abilities and limits. Most importantly, you need to be aware of what your abilities are.
Of course, what I was ambitious about at 20 is totally different from what I want today. After 40, you start looking at life differently.
At 41, you feel life is not just about ambitions; it is much more than that. It is all about experiences. That is how I look at life now. My ambition is to sustain what I have achieved till the end and inculcate it in my child.
Other than acting, you indulge in many things...
Photography is something I took up in 12 years back. I started from the basics. I do not start using a gadget until I read the entire manual. You could call it OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) or something like that.
Are aero-modelling, photography etc your passions?
Maybe they are stress busters for me! I feel happy when I do all that. You could call it hobby, passion, whatever you want...
I am thankful to God that I have been able to experience so many things. I feel privileged to have experienced so many emotions at different times.
God forbid, if I were told tomorrow, 'Ajith, your time is up now', I wouldn't bat an eyelid. I wouldn't complain. I would quietly go!
Are you bothered about the outcome of your films, like how commercially successful they are?
I am eager to know the reviews and reactions. I am as eager as my audience is.
There is a very good saying, 'this too shall pass'. Those who are going through bad times can think this too shall pass.
And those who are going through good times also should remember that this too shall pass.
This will keep you sane and grounded.
Don't you care about the commercial success of your films?
"Don't care" is too harsh. I am concerned about everything that I do in life, be it films, or photography, or motor racing, or aero modelling.
Why do you then not market your films like other actors do?
I don't like comparisons. I am comfortable with what I am doing and others are comfortable with what they are doing.
So, you are not comfortable with marketing your films?
A good film is a promotion by itself. These are my personal views and I convey this to my producers and concerned people when I sign a film. I tell them my comfort level and only after that, I sign a film.
What is the most important thing for you to accept a film?
Compatibility is my main prerogative in signing a film. There has to be compatibility between the producer, director and myself.
If we cannot vibe with each other for five minutes, we will not be able to work together for months.
Do you plan what you want to do in life, like your film career?
At 41, I believe more in looking at the present than looking behind or ahead. I live for the moment. For example, right now, there is nothing in my mind except this interview. Similarly, when I am acting in a film, I live that moment.
I believe there is so much fighting and violence in this world because mankind believes that it is going to live forever. But we don't know what is there for us tomorrow. So, why don't we forget all the enmity and live this moment and not step on anyone's toes?
I have seen some of my friends who were terminally ill appreciate life and live a better quality of life. They were so content with their life and so much more concerned about people. It is from them that I learnt this lesson.
I just want to live for the moment because we are not going to last forever.
Acting in films or films becoming hits or making money are not important in front of living a contented life where all of us love each other.

The obvious ones are Thala/Thalapathy for Ajith and Vijay, Puratchi Thalapathy for Vishal, and Thalaivar for Rajini but what are the most unknown nicknames of Tamil actors. Also, despite being a surya fan, I always thought of him as the one main actor with no nickname but I recently learnt people call him Nadippin Nayagan.
