2024.05.01 07:56 zigzagyellow Is The Tortured Poet’s Department about people closeting in the industry?

Is The Tortured Poet’s Department about people closeting in the industry?
TLDR; Okay - so sorry if this has already been brought up but I’ve been thinking! I know people have brought up that there’s quite a few songs on TTPD that could be related to Taylor closeting (as is a lot of her discography over the years too) but I want to draw attention to how every single name drop and collaboration could be completely purposeful and have a bigger meaning than people are realising. For instance, many people found it odd to name drop Charlie Puth in a song when she hasn’t really given him much attention before this or expressed anything towards his music. I don’t believe in coincidences when it comes to Taylor or that “it rhymes/fits the rhythm well so we’ll put it in.” I do believe everything she does (as Taylor Swift™️) has a purpose.
Firstly, I know the general consensus here is that TTPD is pretty much a muse free album for the most part and is mainly about how Taylor has dealt with fame and her mental health in the spotlight etc. A lot of it could be down to the parasocial relationships she’s built with fans, her masters being stolen, constantly having to be working, pressure with numbers etc. but also a lot of it can also be to do with the stress of closeting and constantly having to deliver her relationship as a product/fantasy.
Before Taylor and Travis were linked, I’m aware there was a lot of speculation regarding Travis’ sexuality making a lot of gaylor’s believe that the coming out was near as “what is a better time to come out than doing it together as the straightest couple alive?” Therefore those hints to Travis in a couple of songs could actually mean something. However, I’m British and never heard of Travis before Taylor so feel free to fact check me on that.
NEXT! This subreddit had a massive thread about how Clara Bow was rumoured to be queer and that’s why she was treated so badly. Obviously in those times you weren’t able to come out so there’s no definitive statement. There’s been a lot of speculation too about Stevie Nicks and Sheryl Crow(?). I could talk forever about this but I don’t want this post to be an hour long reading time.
Florence and the Machine has stated multiple times that she feels genderless on stage and that she enjoys kissing women.
Finally, this post regarding Charlie Puth caught my eye and prompted this post in the first place. I don’t have any proof of this, but feel free to add if you do! I guess it speaks for itself!
I have nothing on Post Malone unfortunately but feel free to add.
All of this and more makes me think that the tortured poets department is really just the closeted celebrities department(?). The title doesn’t have as good of a ring to it honestly. I think she’s had enough with bearding. Obviously her relationship with Joe severely impacted her mental health even more probably because Joe was new to the bearding thing and it was putting a lot of stress on him too. I - amongst many people - thought this was going to be an album of collaborations. In a way… it kind of is. She name drops a lot of people and pop culture references in songs which makes me think they all have a similar invisible string tying them all together.
Thoughts and discussion welcome!

17 days after Drake’s “Push Ups” diss track leaked, Kendrick Lamar rose from the ashes to unleash “Euphoria.”
“Euphoria” — also the title, of course, of the hit HBO present the place Drake serves as an executive producer — hit K. Dot’s YouTube channel early Tuesday (April 30) to ship the rap world right into a frenzy.
Lamar pulled no punches as he tried to shred the 6 God. He kicks off the monitor with extra of a spoken-word move earlier than turning the warmth up over Cardo manufacturing to flame Drake all through the six-minute-plus marathon.
The Drake and Kendrick warfare has been years-in-the-making. Their feud dates again to Lamar’s nuclear “Management” verse in 2013 and subliminally dissing Drake on the BET Hip-Hop Awards throughout his cypher later that very same 12 months.
Drake and J. Cole’s “First Individual Shooter” impressed Kendrick Lamar to take intention on the Large Because the What? 2024.05.01 06:29 EpicRageGuy SMP GdiDrawText - how to add text on hover?

Hi, in SMP samples there's a tooltip sample, but it's for buttons. For many other samples there's tooltip functionality as well (musicbrainz, for example), but it's done through additional scripts (helpers.js I guess) and my scripting knowledge is not good enough to utilize that.
I have a panel with basic GdiDrawText to display song information. I'd love to see more on hover, could someone give me any pointers?
function on_paint(gr) { panel.paint(gr); if (handle) { if (tfo.trackGain.EvalWithMetadb(handle) == "?") { gr.DrawLine(560, 34, 0, 34, 4, RGB(211, 47, 47)); } let titlewrapper = gr.EstimateLineWrap(tfo.title.EvalWithMetadb(handle), font, 420); titlewrapper.forEach((e,i) => { if (i % 2 !== 1) { gr.GdiDrawText(e, titlewrapper.length > 4 ? gdi.Font("Bahnschrift Semicondensed", 30, 1):gdi.Font("Bahnschrift Semicondensed", 36, 1),RGB(245, 245, 245),0,20*i, window.Width,30,DT_VCENTER DT_CENTER DT_END_ELLIPSIS DT_CALCRECT DT_NOPREFIX)}; }) let artistwrapper = gr.EstimateLineWrap(tfo.artist.EvalWithMetadb(handle), font, 419); gr.GdiDrawText( tfo.artist.EvalWithMetadb(handle), gdi.Font("Bahnschrift Semicondensed", 30, 1), RGB(225, 225, 225), 0, titlewrapper.length == 2 ? 0 : 10 * titlewrapper.length, window.Width, 110, DT_VCENTER DT_CENTER DT_END_ELLIPSIS DT_CALCRECT DT_NOPREFIX ,); gr.GdiDrawText( tfo.album.EvalWithMetadb(handle), titlewrapper.length == 2 ? gdi.Font("Bahnschrift Semicondensed", 28, 0) : gdi.Font("Bahnschrift Semicondensed", 20, 0) , RGB(225, 225, 225), 0, titlewrapper.length == 2 ? 0 : 10 * titlewrapper.length, window.Width, 185, DT_VCENTER DT_CENTER DT_END_ELLIPSIS DT_CALCRECT DT_NOPREFIX ); if (tfo.genre.EvalWithMetadb(handle) !== "?") { gr.GdiDrawText( tfo.genre.EvalWithMetadb(handle), gdi.Font("Bahnschrift Semicondensed", 22, 0), RGB(225, 225, 225), 0, titlewrapper.length == 2 ? 0 : 10 * titlewrapper.length, window.Width, 250, DT_VCENTER DT_CENTER DT_END_ELLIPSIS DT_CALCRECT DT_NOPREFIX ); } else { gr.GdiDrawText( "NO GENRE", gdi.Font("Bahnschrift Semicondensed", 22, 0), RGB(255, 150, 150), 0, titlewrapper.length == 2 ? 0 : 10 * titlewrapper.length, window.Width, 250, DT_VCENTER DT_CENTER DT_END_ELLIPSIS DT_CALCRECT DT_NOPREFIX ); } } rating.paint(gr); buttons.paint(gr); }

Title - BTS Connection Description
Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus by John Gray (1992) - This book was spotted on Namjoon’s book shelf from his April 2020 weverse post A #1 New York Times Bestseller, this book has helped highlight how different men and women can be in their communication styles, emotional needs and modes of behaviour, and offers the secrets of communicating without conflicts…
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (2020) - Recommended by Namjoon during In The Soop Season 2 When Nora Seed finds herself in the Midnight Library, she has a chance to make things right. Up until now, her life has been full of misery and regret. She feels she has let everyone down, including herself. But things are about to change.
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami (1987) - Namjoon shared that this was a favorite book of one his closest friends in a Sept 2015 interview for ASTA TV A magnificent coming of age story steeped in nostalgia, a masterly novel blending the music, the mood and the ethos that were the sixties with a young man’s hopeless and heroic first love.
In Praise of Love by Alain Badiou (2012) - Namjoon shared a screen capture of a page from the book on his Instagram stories In a world rife with consumerism, where online dating promises risk-free romance and love is all too often seen as a mere variant of desire and hedonism, Alain Badiou believes that love is under threat. Taking to heart Rimbaud’s famous line “love needs reinventing,” In Praise of Love is the celebrated French intellectual’s passionate treatise in defense of love.
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes (2013) - Namjoon recommended the book in an interview for Japanese magazine Haru Hana A Love Story for this generation, Me Before You brings to life two people who couldn’t have less in common—a heartbreakingly romantic novel that asks, What do you do when making the person you love happy also means breaking your own heart?

2024.05.01 05:13 freemaxbwaves This Kendrick Lamar diss is deeper then you guys think

We know throughout the track Kendrick Lamar is calling Drake a fake gangster, saying he’s a fraud who acts tough.
But the track gets more intresting and deeper towards the end.
Kendrick says near the end:
“Yeah, OV-ho n***** is dick riders Tell 'em run to America, they imitate heritage, they can't imitate this violence”
He’s calling out Toronto gangs for being fake, imitators of American culture. More specifically he’s calling out Toronto gangs for imitating LA GANG culture. As he says “they can’t imitate this violence”
Then he starts mocking the Toronto accent and the slang.
“Don't speak on the family, crodie It can get deep in the family, crodie Talk about me and my family, crodie? Someone gon' bleed in your family, crodie”
He’s mocking them for the word “crodie” which is taken from the LA slang “brodie”, obviously changed from “b” to “c” because of the Crips in Toronto.
Kendrick is mocking Toronto gangs for being imitators of LA gangs and saying that they aren’t a threat.
This is when it gets deeper. He says:
“I be at New Ho King eatin' fried rice with a dip sauce and blamy, crodie Tell me you're cheesin', fam We can do this right now on the camera, crodie”
New Ho King is a Chinese Resturant on Spadina Avenue in Toronto. New Ho King is ALSO where a Toronto rapper named Sizzlac filmed his last music video before being shot and killed.
Sizzlac got shot and killed days after dropping a diss record titled “Realest in the 6”, and in the music video for the record he’s at New Ho King.
Sizzlac is also rumored to be one of the people that robbed Drake at gunpoint in 2009. Drake got robbed in 2009 by two people at gunpoint and it’s been rumored for a long time that one of them was Sizzlac. Also supposedly Drake was going to file a police report, but didn’t because it would effect his rap career being labeled as a snitch.
Drake got robbed and his chain was snatched after being set up by a girl. He raps about it in a few of his songs like “The Reaistance” or “Away From Home”.
Drake recently has aligned himself with another Toronto rapper named Pressa. He brought him out on tour a few years ago and shouted him out on his latest album For All The Dogs.
Pressa is apart of the Driftwood CRIPS gang.
The Driftwood Crips and Sizzlacs gang have had a long rivalry.
Pressa said in his song Attachments, “Sizzlac dead, and they don't post him on the 'Gram”
No one knows who shot and killed Sizzlac, it’s all rumors that it could have been someone from his gang or other gangs that killed him.
So, when Kendrick says that he’s at New Ho King with a blammy and that he can do it on camera. He’s saying that unlike Sizzlac, he’s in Drakes city (Toronto) at New Ho King with a gun and that he’s ready to do it on camera.
He also mocks the Toronto Crips (Driftwood Crips/Pressas Crew) by making fun of their slang, accent and calling them fake imitators of LA gang culture.
Kendrick saw that Drake has been aligning himself with these Crips in his city of Toronto (maybe even being involved in Sizzlacs death after getting robbed for his chain) and called Drakes BS. He called the Crips in his city fake, made fun of them for copying LA culture while also saying he’s at New Ho King with a gun and that Drake won’t do anything about it.
This also ties in with him calling Drake a culture vulture throughout the track and is a direct response to Drake using LA legends AI voices like Pac and Snoop to diss Kendrick. “I'd rather do that than let a Canadian n**** make Pac turn in his grave”. Drake has been saying he’s bigger then Kendrick in LA, mocking him for supposedly being the “West Coast Savior” so Kendrick returns fire by making fun of Toronto.
Also remember when Drake said:
“Hugs and kisses, man, don't tell me 'bout no switches I'll be rockin' every fuckin' chain I own next visit, ayy”?
He says he’ll rock every chain he owns on his next visit to LA. This could play into Kendrick with the subliminal Sizzlac reference, since he supposedly robbed Drakes chain in Toronto (his own city).
Right at the end of the track Kendrick says: “They punk y’all n*****, nobody never took my food”
Reference to New Ho King and Drake (and Sizzlac) both getting punked in Toronto.

2024.05.01 02:25 Odd-Lab-1238 Any news on a new Dizzy Mizz Lizzy album?

Not the song, the (very underappreciated) Danish alt/prog/grunge rock band
It’s been 4 years since Alter Echo released, which in my opinion is their most refined work to date, especially as a full album.
However there’s no word at all that they’re working on new material - I know Tim’s gone on tour for his solo project, but they haven’t even teased any new music at all? I don’t live in Denmark so maybe there’s more news there??
I’m desperately hoping they aren’t disbanding again, but Alter Echo did kinda feel like a final send off.
Btw this also serves as a prompt for any people who haven’t heard of them who like alt, prog, grunge and hard rock to check them out! Silverflame is an obvious starting point but I’d recommend: - Waterline from Dizzy Mizz Lizzy (self titled) - Find My Way from Rotator - Say It To Me Anyway from Forward In Reverse - Amelia (all parts) from Alter Echo (or California Rain and In The Blood for fans of songs under 20 minutes long)

2024.05.01 02:20 AHGottlieb What is the most UNDERRATED song on Conspiranoid?

What is the most UNDERRATED song on Conspiranoid?
Dawn of the final day. It took me a while to figure out how to do this one. Like that one fella said it’ll be pretty funny if Erin gets all three.
Again I’ll remind the sub about the rules for this vote.
  1. Skits and Ditties don’t count. Skits are less than a minute and have no melody. Ditties are less than a minute and do have a melody.
  2. If “no song” fits in a category, it will go there.
  3. Voting, as of the Brown Album’s Worst vote, is now 24 hours from posting.
  4. Please don’t take it too seriously. This isn’t a definitive answer and you probably won’t like every single answer given. Just go with it!
Voting closes for this post at 9AM EST tomorrow. Votes are counted by amount of upvotes on original comments with a song title or lyric. Due to some advice from the Nature Boy recount, there will be no recounting votes for any vote.

2024.05.01 01:21 gwefysmefys “I keep these longing lost in lowercase inside a vault” hints at Folklore/Evermore Vault Tracks?

This lyric from Guilty as Sin has been on my mind non-stop since release day, and here’s why (I am unhinged):
I want to clarify two things, first of all:
1) I don’t expect that she would ever release Folklore/Evermore ‘vault’ tracks, if they exist.
2) I’m extending the definition of the term ‘vault’ tracks to mean any tracks left on the cutting room floor that didn’t make it onto an album.
It’s been theorised recently that some of the songs on Folklore/Evermore that we thought were about fictional characters/were less autobiographical might have at least been rooted in some truth of what was going on in Taylor’s life/mind at the time.
With the release of TTPD, we’ve seen direct and indirect allusions to the theme of feeling caged/trapped, of boredom, and—less metaphorically—of being in a relationship that’s dead/dying and wanting out.
The song ‘Guilty as Sin’ explores, as an extension to this, fantasising about being with someone else. It’s rather on-the-nose about it too, for the most part, but one lyric in particular struck me as being somewhat cryptic.
“I keep my longings locked, in lowercase inside a vault.”
On the surface, it’s clear she’s just secretly fantasising about something/someone, but my sleep-deprived, depression-riddled brain has cooked up another layer to this lyric that I wondered if anybody else agreed with: That she has songs that didn’t make it onto Folklore/Evermore, her two albums with completely lowercase song titles, that harbour these ‘longings’ and will never see the light of day.
This is by far one of my most outlandish/far-fetched theories to date about a Taylor lyric, but it’s put down roots in my brain. If it was her use of the word ‘vault’ alone, maybe I wouldn’t think too much of it, but chuck the use of ‘lowercase’ in there and it starts to make a bit too much sense. It feels like an unnecessary detail to add when you’re simply trying to express that you’re keeping something secret. A secret is a secret, whether it’s in lowercase or all caps.
All of this to say… None of this matters, it’s just fun sometimes to comb through some of her lyrics and see what the teeth catch on.

2024.05.01 01:21 DougFordsDevBuddy Let’s be objective

Kendrick’s response was good on a lyrically nuanced level. He really didn’t say anything impactful…..yet but insinuated stuff. The track title could be the most telling. An adaptation of an is Israeli!! show that made for and based teenagers. An influencer who is a drug addicted (apparently Drake is) focused on teenage landscape of substance-enhanced parties and anxiety-ridden day-to-day life with empathy and candor. I am sure there is meaning for what’s to come from Kendrick. A look at what Kendrick lied about.
  1. No classic albums
  2. Dead beat dad
  3. Not black
  4. Need black features - Is Drake not the one who has made careers based on his features?
  5. Fake tough guy - Many people might not know but Drake has deep ties to certain shady originations in Canada and the USA. Drake very much has that pull.
  6. Like young girls - come on!! If this was true, everyone would know.
Some stuff that is true
  1. Drake snitched. Yes, Drake did this towards a Toronto Rapper a long time ago
  2. Drake has had his stomach done
  3. Drake sent a feature request to Kendrick
  4. Kendrick mentions Drakes accent. As someone who grew up in a very rough area in Toronto, the “Farsi” is very common. Drake didn’t speak like this. He was brought up by a teacher who made him speak “the proper English”
What’s kinda weird is that Drake, who has helped many artist find stardom, has never tried to sign them or take credit and yet he is getting called out for it. That’s odd
Drake on the other hand begged Kendrick to drop (what artist would have the balls to beg Kendick Lamer to diss them). This leads me to believe that Drake has something crazy in store.
Don’t expect anyone in the industry to side with Drake. He is on his own. This is his final battle and he will lose. It doesn’t matter if he comes with the greatest diss of all time but the “real hip hop fans and media” will push Kendrick because he really is their saviour. They will move the goal posts for him.

2024.04.30 23:55 Elegant_Elk5629 minisode 3: TOMORROW - One Month Later

(typing this with Miracle playing in my headphones feels so sentimental) Hey MOA and others, happy 1 month to Minisode 3! I'm here to ask what's your opinion on the songs and the concept after sitting with it for a month? And how would you rank them? Did your ranking make a change?
Here is my opinion. (Long post ahead!)
  1. Quarter Life. There's no way I'm placing this fricking masterpiece anywhere less than #1. I am as blown away by it now as I was at my first listen. This unit is surprisingly very well picked, I wasn't expecting their tones to work as well as they do. Perfect 10/10 song for me with the chorus and the gritty rockish vocals. And especially, the lyrics that resonate so much at this stage of my life. I cry so much listening to this while getting insane goosebumps simultaneously. My complaint is that it's sooooo short it could've easily had another verse even if they want to forgo the bridge. It's the shortest song on the EP at 2.30-ish. 2.30!!! BigHit 😡 I'll still not rank it anywhere less than 1 tho. I heard it immediately after Deja Vu and was completely enamored by DV MV still when this played, but with the first verse my attention was YANKED here which shows how much I enjoyed it even on a casual listen.
  2. Deja Vu. OK so I'm a GBGB era MOA, so you'll see how I always really hype up the song due to it giving me the great gift of bringing me to TXT. And GBGB is my 3rd top title track after TCC titles tied at #1 and Run Away at #2. This TT, however, completely blew away my #3 and is now sitting at GBGB's place. I dont think it tops the top 2 and tbh that's a very high standard, but considering it's TXT's excellent collection we're talking about, it means a lot that they managed to top their own spectacular songs. It's so wonderfully nostalgic and such a perfect song to listen to. I really can't find a flaw in it unlike some of their past songs. Just amazing. Placing it 2nd because QL is going nowhere less, for me.
  3. The Killa. CAN YOU STILL PROCESS WE GOT YEONBIN?! I know the shippers had a field day with this 😐 because I saw them too much on my feed until I cleaned up. But nothing will dampen my joy! This is such a good Afrobeats song with none of the racist pronunciations and the full credits to rightful people, which brings me more calm than you can ever imagine. I'm so freaking impressed with Soobin in this!!! Especially after watching the Recording Behind. He slayed this so hard. It was obvious that Yeonjun would fit this song like a glove and he does! His tone is beautiful and a perfect match with this instrumental. Btw, the instrumental!!! Is so boppy!!! I am happy that it feels like a complete song despite still being kinda short. Better completion than QL imo. On first listen I was impressed with the song but felt that it wasn't as grabby a song (which is possibly also not what the song was made to be anyway). The chorus is definitely a strong, strong highlight but the verses fall flat in the sense that they feel monotonous sometimes. Too much talk chanty type imho it would've helped to have more change ups in the verses like Soobin's 3rd verse, I guess. It's a case of chorus being better than the verses for me here. I am also blushing at their audacity pls the lyrics are so 😭🤚. (Btw many hugs to Ebby and hope to see more of you, genius!)
  4. Miracle. I AM DECLARING THIS SOOBIN'S SONG. He beat expert producers and lyricists to make this song chock full of his lyrics, baksuuuu! The instrumental reminds of GIDLE I Do which is a great song and lyrics remind me of BTS 2! 3! which still makes me cry despite not being ARMY it's really such a touching song...I'm so looking forward to MOAs screaming their lungs out with the very singalong type lyrics. They make me cry so much. I think the main reason why it's lower is because the other 3 absolutely cannot be placed any low for me lol. And the verses' lyrics were a bit confusing because I couldn't find a good translation and I knew it was an emotional song (I was kinda whelmed by the ONE TWO THREE being followed by what I found in translations to be kinda mid (?) lyrics???) Also I felt the song to be a bit bland on first listen probably bcs its comes after THEE Deja Vu, but a month later I'm enjoying it a looooot more now. Plus I discovered a great translation guide hah. THEIR VOCALS SLAY IN THIS TRACK THE HARDEST.
  5. Deja Vu Anemoia remix. To be absolutely frank with you, I don't understand how people prefer this version over the OG. I like it as a remix but I'm glad it wasn't the main track, because the OG is just so good. While I very much love the song in this remix too and enjoy the fact that we get cohesive remixes unlike Do It Like That (lol), I don't know why I'm unable to hear what's BETTER about it; it's just a different instrument (?) to me. I chalk it up to personal preferential differences and would like to hear more opinions.
  6. I'll See You There Tomorrow. I'll just state right away that I'm absolutely not a fan of house genre in general and that's the sole reason why this song is so low. The choreography is fire tho! But I can't bring myself to listen to it much, even while streaming constantly I pull out my headphones to avoid listening to the house beats. I think it's a good house song (admittedly I haven't heard many) and the lyrics are really nice, I think some of my favourite lyrics of the album are from ISYTT. It's weirdly catchy which I hate because I don't want to listen to house!!! But I think TXT might just convert me on this genre like they converted me to Soul. 😂 Helps (or does it 😭) that since it's viral I keep hearing it. BIGHIT YOU STUPID COMPANY PLS PUSH THIS SONG AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
  7. 'Tomorrow' (Morse code). Obviously not a proper song, but I think I'd have appreciated a more nuanced, track-like approach to 'Tomorrow' rather than literally just the Morse code that we've heard in their trailer and logo motion already. Being integrated as a morse code with some instrumental magic a là JP album intros (Intro: Dreaming, Outro: Still, Intro: Floating, Outro: Falling) and good production would've elevated the track a lot and also made it more than just a literal filler. Since I'm not a debut MOA I might be missing the nostalgia element and that's why I'm judging this so harshly, so what do you guys think?
Other thoughts:
-About distribution and center parts, I think this album was much better distributed in these terms and even for lines...for the most part. Where BigHit drops the ball, they drop hard tho, sigh. I have to admit that I find myself wishing Yeonjun doesn't get as much focus for the next era. Not just to balance out, but also because he seems to be taking on a lot and it seems he's having difficulty sometimes. The other members can easily take/share his load, I think.
-I'll be the first to admit that I have never read or heard of The Little Prince before this album. TXT draw a lot from fairytales (?) and somehow I'm always only vaguely aware of the main stories they're adapting from, lol.
-I'm surprised we get so little promotional YouTube content. By YouTube content I'm specifically talking about interviews and variety shows. AFAIR, we've had less promotion than both Temptation and Freefall; which is weird when we consider this seems to be the main promoted comeback for this year. Maybe I'm missing some contents tho that I haven't been able to catch amidst the major things happening all the time.
-I'm baffled to see how BigHit dropped the ball once AGAIN on pushing the songs going viral (ISYTT esp) i know there are many internal issues going on which are, it seems, affecting TXT too unfortunately. Even their world tour has less online promo and trailer was delayed it seemed. I'm just not even disappointed atp I'm just mad.
-It is unbelievable how much every single member has improved their vocals. Yeonjun is hitting proper high notes and taking high chorus! He has truly lived up to the ACE title officially. Soobin is expanding his range from pure falsetto and airy to this strong smooth tone! He sounds absolutely gorgeous. BEOMGYUUUU IS...I HAVE NO WORDS, I literally cannot articulate how I feel listening to his honeyed husk now so strong and gritty, it gives you every single feels. He's the reason why my favourite songs on m3 are my favourite. Taehyun has improved his technique which seems impossible because he was such an excellent vocalist even before, but hearing him on Miracle and Quarter Life especially made me realize he's improved EVEN MORE 😭 HueningKai is singing without ever straining, is stable as heck, and holds a lot more control than even before when he was very good. Also living up to his ACE title as usual.
-So am I the only one still freaking out over Soobin's lyrics in Miracle; verse 1, verse 2, and the chorus!!! (Yes I'm mentioning this again lol.) I was hoping for Kai co producer but oh well, it's his pace! These 3 slay their writing credits. Beomgyu has not a single writing credit but I'm willing to give benefit of the doubt to BigHit because he's talked about being somewhat picky with what he writes and resonates with, meanwhile the others try to write for everything ever. I'm just hoping this ushers in a time when they get to prioritise their own work more, over company mandated productions.
-I do think TXT will have another comeback this year but it won't be the main focus for this year. Probably a single album or a digital single.
-Overall, M3 is a strong, strong addition to an already phenomenal discography. Very cohesive album with excellent songs, and it ranks #2 best Minisode (#1 is M2 for me), and #5 best TXT album (after Magic, Temptation, M2, Freefall) for me.
So what's your take? Please discuss the album and your thoughts about it a month later!
//Not my first language, excuse me please. 💙

2024.04.30 23:36 _batondecolle To my CLONE enjoyers

Well for anyone who might be interested in this song and following the clout it is making with the last days best/worst songs votings I feel like sharing my thoughts on it and why I love its meaning, or how I do interpretate it.
Im from Spain so english is not my first language, the time I discovered the song more than 10 years ago I never really paid attention to the lyrics or its meaning, and sonically It got eclipsed by all the bangers Synthetica has, and forgot about it for several years.
3-4 years ago I revisited Synthetica as a time travelling experience almost because I did not listen to most songs of that album since my teenage years, and oh boy when I remembered there was a (forgive my lame comparisons) lo-fi-ish(?) 8-bit-ish (😭) laid back song on it I wanted to chek it out.
And not only I got mesmerized by the amazing production on that song, but when I started paying attention to the lyrics it kinda gutted me.
The first thing that caught my attention was the consistency through the album with some imagery the band makes mentioning a setting like a Fair, where the “rides” they use as something thrilling the person wants to share in an attempt to drive others interest in their persona, are tied to the concept of the Mirrored Maze that Breathing Underwater speaks about. But now Emily or this subject is feeling melancholic or pitiful because the time for that sensation came to an end a while ago. And “was afraid to tell you about it”.
And thats what I feel the songs speaks about, the dichotomy of wanting to be loved/perceived (you feel lonely, “missing everyone you know right now”) but knowing who you are is not related to the people that surrounds you where you are looking for that empathy. “Calling out my regret only makes me stronger” emphasizes in this, you are calling my bluff making me value my self-awareness and indiviuality.
“Nothing Ive ever done right, happened on the safe side” She is regretting not being able of having done something to not feel that way, but at the same time she was a victim of the situation when in reality the circumstances were never her fault.
Then, when the most devastating verse in the song comes it gives a meaning to the title. “Back to that photograph. Can you clone me? I look like everyone you know now.” She uses the concept of cloning someone making an analogy with people (intentionally or not) changing to be like most people just to feel that she fits in, losing her original identity and true self in the process. (But hey! Im not Synthetica!)
“It's too late in the day To tell me I'm off the path We're already in the aftermath”
The song ends with this verse, where she wonders if after everything she is been through with her identity does it matter or not that the same enviroment she wanted to belong at the start is now perceiving her as a misfit. She is already in the aftermath, despite everything she thought and discover about her unique self, she is still going to fall inevitably in the same dynamics again someday.
The way I interpretate the song is from the perspective where she speaks about her relationship with herself and how to manage it to stop suffering. Making you conscious about that problem that made you feel missunderstood in your life and putting a mirror in front of you to make you realize that, because if you dont see it you are traped in it. And this is why I relate to this song and is not only my favourite Metric song but my fave song in the world. I think imma get it tattooed by myself lol.
I hope everyone who reached this part liked my feelings about Clone, and dont be shy to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments 🩶 Speaking about this fulfills my soul.

2024.04.30 23:20 AliceStanleyJr Who's Afraid of Little Old Me/Virginia Woolf Easter Eggs!

Full disclosure, I’m not totally sure what everything “means” yet, but these Easter eggs are EGGING! So I’ll share my incomplete findings.

Many people have already inferred “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” could be a reference to the Edward Albee play “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.” To me, the song’s meaning is not yet clear. There are obvious themes of being caged and angry, but beyond that, I am not confident in any particular theory about the lyrics. (I’ve heard some people guess the song is about anger toward the music industry, or maybe her parents, or maybe the next generation of musicians. I think it could be about any and/or all of that.)

That said, I could see the song’s title being a reference to the play on at least two levels. One, Virginia Woolf was a tortured poet (a queer one, to note). And two, the play is about a horribly dysfunctional marriage between a man and a woman who’s career has been mainly defined by her father. (There is also a lot about children and babies that I won’t disclose for spoiler reasons. More at the end of this post.)

NOW all THAT said, check out the act titles of the play (!):
Act One is called “Fun and Games”
Act Two is called “Walpurgisnacht”
Act Three is called “The Exorcism”
I’ve read the play many times but had never much paid attention to the act titles. When I looked them up earlier today two things JUMPED out to me.

First of all, Taylor mentions exorcism in “The Black Dog”!
"Now I want to sell my house and set fire to all my clothes
And hire a priest to come and exorcise my demons
Even if I die screaming
And I hope you hear it”

But secondly! That second word means AN ANNUAL COVEN MEETING.
Consider these “Prophecy” lyrics!
“A greater woman stays cool
But I howl like a wolf at the moon,
And I look unstable
Gathered with a coven ‘round a
Sorceress table”

Also, bonus witch allusions from WAOLOM itself!
“So I leap from the gallows and I levitate down your street.”

AND THE CHERRY ON TOP! Guess what day of the year that annual coven meeting of witches is? My clowns, is it April 30th, a certain muse’s birthday.
Again, what does it all mean? I can’t say, but some fun coincidences!

WHO’S AFRAID SPOILER NOTE RE: BABIES:
If you don’t want spoilers about the Albee play, move on! But something else I’ve been thinking about a lot, is how many references to babies are on this album and the link to babies in the Albee play.
One could def chalk up all the baby talk to Swift simply being in her 30s. It’s baby time for millennials, in every sense. But to me, these allusions have a bizarre or dark undertone.
We’ve all laughed about the But Daddy I Love Him “joke,” but screaming you’re having someone’s baby and then adding “no I’m not” is wild, unstable behavior. I’m not saying Taylor herself is unstable, but the text seems to imply instability (“he’s crazy” “I’m having his baby no I’m not”).
More: In “The Prophecy,” Swift says she feels like “an infant.” In “The Manuscript” there seems to be bitterness about the baby strollers. In “loml” there seems to be bitterness about carriages. I also find “Robin” to be an unsettling song about a child with some kind of secret. I couldn’t possibly guess how Taylor feels about being childfree right now, but the themes are undeniably present.
So onto the play. Early on, a young man reveals he married his wife because she had a “hysterical pregnancy,” but then he was sort of stuck in the marriage. Then the big Act Three reveal is that the son the main characters have talked about for the whole show…was imaginary. When the couple was young, they realized they were infertile, so they made up a hypothetical child. At the end of the play the husband announces the son has been killed. It destroys the wife, even though the son was totally made up.
It feels so outlandish to suspect anything about Taylor’s personal life when it comes to motherhood (based on a string of vague Easter eggs no less!), but from a purely literary viewpoint, there are many interwoven themes about pregnancy between the album and the play.

2024.04.30 22:37 Yung_Kyo Album of the day #17

I cant edit my other posts titles! Sorry for the confusion that will occur when scrolling for past posts ❤️ from now on they are gonna be numbered 🤘
SO, WHAT’S TODAY’S ALBUM?
It’s gonna be a curveball, quite a niche album I might say (if you know this one, I love you)
I’m from a weird province in Canada called Quebec, where 90% of the people speaks French. Except Despiced Icon, there are not a lot of heavy band coming in from our spot. DI’s rise to fame influenced a lot of bands from quebec to start this deathcore shit.
That’s where we are, in 2010, were a cult classic dropped:
Blind Witness - Nightmare On Providence Street
The track Baby One More Notch went viral back in the days, they even managed to get an uncredited feat from Chris Blair(ABRB’s Allegiance’s singer)
This album has a special place in my heart, and I would love to see you guy’s reaction to it! Let’s discuss it! And if you’re also from quebec, holla at your boy!

2024.04.30 21:26 Financial_Might_6816 Iron Maiden album ranking (don’t kill me for my opinion)

Self titled: 7 A lot of great songs but bad sound quality Favourite: Phantom of the opera Least Favourite: Running Free
Killers: 6 Better sound but mostly mid songs Favourite: Killers Least Favourite: Prodigal Son
Number of the Beast: 8 Great songs, great sound, just that invaders is a bad songs and it’s the opener Favourite: Hallowed be thy Name Least favourite: Invaders
Piece of mind: 7 Unpopular opinion but this one has great songs and all but I don’t think it’s a masterpiece Favourite: Where Eagles Dare Least favourite: Sun and Steel
Powerslave: 8.5 Overall great album but the songs in the middle of the album kinda feel like they are fillers (except for Flash of the Blade imo) Favourite: Powerslave Least favourite: Losfer Words
Somwhere in Time: 8.5 About as good as Powerslave, has some great songs but also has some fillers. Favourite: Alexander The Great Least favourite: Loneliness of the long distance runner
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son: 10 Perfect for me, everything is just how it should be, there are no bad songs and I can’t name you one thing that would make this album better. Also I can’t choose a favourite Favourite: Infinite Dreams/Title Track/ The Prophecy Least Favourite: Can I play with madness (still great song)
No Prayer: 4 Least favourite album, it doesn’t have any memorable songs except maybe for Mother Russia. Also Holy Smoke cringes me. Favourite: Mother Russia Least Favourite: Holy Smoke
Fear of the Dark 6.5/7 Pretty underrated, has overall good songs but lacks a consistent theme. Favourite: Judas be my Guide Least Favourite: The Apparition
The X Factor: 5 Tbh I don’t find this album terrible and Blazes voice doesn’t even bother me that much, although I think you can hear that he really lacks confidence. Favourite: Sign of the Cross Least Favourite: tbh there is no specific song, the album is just overall mid
Virtual XI: 6 Step up from the last one, Blaze is much more confident and the songs are overall better. Favourite: Lightning Strikes Twice Least Favourite: Angel and The Gambler
Brave New World: 9.5 Huge step up from the last albums, very proggy (which I love), overall amazing except for Thin Line, it’s not that memorable and has a part with autotune which really destroys the ambience of the album. Speaking of ambience, this album is so nostalgic Favourite: The Nomad Least favourite: The thin Line between Love and Hate
Dance of death: 7.5/8 Great album but not as good as the previous one but still some great songs Favourite: Paschendale Least favourite: no specific song
A Matter of Life and Death: 9.75 Really close to being perfect, the only problem imo is Different world as the opener. All songs are awesome and underrated, of course there is These Colours Don’t Run, Brughter than a thousand suns but I think the best songs are The Longest Day, Lord of the Light and the Legacy. Favourite: The Legacy (best maiden sing imo) Least Favourite: Different World (still good imo)
The Final Frontier: 8 Really great sound and it really gives off this “space” feel to it. Especially the opener, you see the Final Frontier is a great song but when you Satellite 15 to it, it makes it perfect the two last songs are near perfect imo. Favourite: The Man who Would be King/When the Wild Wind Blows
The Book of Souls: 8/8.5 This is imo Powerslave 2, it has the riffs and a very distinct theme, it’s very proggy on some songs and tbh the fact that some riffs are kinda reused doesn’t bother me too much, it’s like having the best of Iron Maiden in one album while having some fresh new ideas added. Favourite: The Empire of the clouds Least Favourite: Speed of Light (still good)
Senjutsu: 4.5 People are gonna kill me for this rating but you have to read to understand. This album is very enjoyable but not to listen to actively, like as a background music. When it came out I was like 11 and played with my Samurai Lego and had this playing in the background and I really enjoyed it. But like my rating shows I don’t really appreciate it, it’s pretty boring and unnecessarily long and repetitive, it feels very unfinished and unpolished, and tbh I don’t blame them, they only had 6 months in the studio and hadn’t written anything before entering it so they had 6 months to write AND record. And to prove my point, there is a part in Lost in a Lost World where the guitar and vocals do the same melody but unsyncronised, how the fuck did that go through? Now I have to be honest there are still good songs like the title track (still a bit too long), Stratego or Hell on Earth (I have to be honest hell on earth is an amazing song) Favourite: Hell on Earth Least Favourite: The Parchment/Lost in a Lost world

2024.04.30 21:17 Maltifandom23 Beyond The Album - Solar's Colours

Beyond The Album - Solar's Colours
┎┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┒
Hey everyone, Solar returns with her second mini album, which I've eagerly awaited. I'm curious to see what sound she will bring to this new project. I can't wait to hear killer vocals from the singer as she dominates this record. Before we jump into the project, I'll review the new album from the rock band Xdinary Heroes. Let's jump into the Solar album and see what she delivered.
┖┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┚

Colours - Solar
1.Colours
The opening song on the album goes for this EDM sound that gave me a WTF moment cause I didn't know what was going on at first. Solar's Voice fits well with the overall vibe as it explodes with color. The hook hits hard, feeling like it's going all over the place as the singer keeps putting on a compelling performance. We get weird vocals and sound effects that add to the overall vibe. As an opening track in the project, it opens this album nicely, making me curious about the rest of what Solar will bring to the table. This tune will likely get stuck in my head as it has a catchy vibe.

2. But I
But I opened with a piano melody that made me think it was going in a ballad direction for a title track. The vocals from Solar hit during the verses and explode in color during the hook as everything comes crashing together in the hook section. The backing track is crisp as it blends well with the singer's performance. I wanted to know if I liked the hook, but the more I heard it, the more it grew on me. The chorus has a bouncy pop vibe, with guitars coming together for something epic. I'm starting to find this tune fun as Solar puts on an epic performance, making this song perfect for this record.

3. 텅 (Empty)
The third song on the album opens with smooth vocals from the singer, giving off an atmospheric R&B vibe that beautifully complements the singer's performance. The hook explodes with color, keeping the chill R&B vibe from the verses transitioning well into the chorus. Some bouncy moments in the tune add to the overall vibe. I love this chill synth vibe that Solar goes for, as it works well for her and this record.

https://preview.redd.it/7lglmpaa2oxc1.jpg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=391df850fd54347478682bfbf194e9036868c24f
───✱*.。:。✱*.:。✧*.。✰*.:。✧*.。:。*.。✱ ───
4. Honey Honey
Synths open the song, crafting a melody that fits well with the singer's voice. She delivers smooth vocals that work well with the vibe. I like the funky feeling the beat delivers and the sweet hook, which will grow on me more with time, but I'm still enjoying it. The verses are smooth as they transition well into the hook sections. This tune has to grow on me a little more because, at the moment, it's missing something to make this tune pop out to me. With time, this tune will connect with me more.

https://preview.redd.it/oqb00eme2oxc1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22a32a89753a8401cd1b9237d48b63a41cc619ab
───✱*.。:。✱*.:。✧*.。✰*.:。✧*.。:。*.。✱ ───
5. Easy Peasy
A guitar opens the record with a sweet vibe, reminding me of Solar's project series in 2017. I love her performance, as it feels fitting for spring. I love the melody that crafts the overall vibe, occasionally making this tune think like an indie piece. Solar has an excellent voice, and she showcases this song in a more chill direction. I can't tell you this one will be on repeat for me because I love an excellent acoustic-pop tune.

https://preview.redd.it/9agio83i2oxc1.jpg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=637165610c5dfb6bf9102285c2e7cc46b6089178
───✱*.。:。✱*.:。✧*.。✰*.:。✧*.。:。*.。✱ ───
6. .Blue
The closing song on the album is one of the best tracks. Solar hits hard with the vocals and blends well with this dark R&B vibe. The slick verses pull you in, as it sounds like the singer is singing to you. The hook hits hard as the vocals from Solar get stronger, hitting me even more than before. We get some electric gutiar moments that add to the vibe, making it stronger than before. The bridge is another moment where Solar hits with the vocals as she keeps impressing me with each listen.
┎┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┒
Summary: Solsr returns with her second album, which feels different in sound but still hits hard in the vocal department. Blue is one of the best songs on the project, as the vocals hit hard. I can't wait to watch this album grow even more on me as the tracks become my favorites, but I will definitely be adding these tunes to my playlist. I also hope we get mote music from Solar in the future.
