2024.04.12 22:29 awaythro2 Pen pals or whatever.

Anyone want to be my anonymous internet friend?
Like we could skip the small talk and trauma dump or just awkwardly share mundane details about our lives.
Then ignore each other forever - or be there for moral support if something is wrong - or maybe, idk somehow form a legitimate friendship.
This is obviously a throwaway account and yours could be too, so there's no pressure.
Edit: It's probably good to provide some details about myself to see if we're compatible-
Age: old enough to remember MySpace surveys, AIM, xanga etc. - too young for warped tour when my favorite bands were there - it's cool if you're in a different age group though.
Currently listening to: hot mulligan / Aesop rock (hyperfixation style)
Relationship: married-no kids, just dogs.
I tried to think of hobbies I enjoy- but I think all I ever do is just think about stuff lol.

2024.04.09 22:51 MickeyG42 Marsh's Story

I feel this needs a bit of background. Some 25 years ago a friend in high school asked me to write her a story about a princess. I tried and tried for a year and just couldn't. The only thing she would ever say to me after asking for it was ,"Where's my story Sean?" We graduate and move on. I found her maybe a year later on one f the yearbook websites in the early days of the web and still, "Where's my story Sean?", I let it go and stopped talking to her. Maybe 4 years after that (2006-2007) I found her on Myspace. Again the same question. Finally, it was almost time for our 20 year reunion and I at last had an idea and I fully planned on tossing the story at her and walking away...but COVID. we never had the reunion but I at least finally had a story. So, here it is.

The girl walked into the tavern and shook off the rain. After she ordered a drink she surveyed the patrons. Off in the corner, she spotted the bard, laughing to himself. She got a second drink and seated herself across from him. “Seghan you owe me a story. I paid for it and you passed out in your beer.”
“And yet you've brought me another. Yer a good egg there Marsha.”
Marsha slammed the mug of beer down in front of him. “I'll keep you in drink if you just tell me the damned story.”
“Fine, fine.” He drinks the beer in one gulp, laughs and begins.
“A long long time ago there was a....(hic).” He looked up at her, and his eyes briefly crossed. “I’m sorry what did I say this was about?”
She sighed out of anger and frustration. “I paid you for a story about a princess. This is the third time we’ve tried this and you keep passing out halfway through. Get started if you want another drink.”
“Aye okay okay. So once there was this princess. And she lived in one of those things
the stone with the towers
” he trailed off.
“A castle? Did you forget the word for castle?”
“Yeah yeah that. And she lived there with her da who was the leader
.ruler
man.”
She sighed again and said, “King?”
“Aye. The king. She hated her father, the er, King for he was trying to marry her off to a prince. He sat her down, he did and said ‘Look yer a princess so you need to marry.’
She tells him , ‘I don’t want to so I wont.’
So the king, he says ,’Okay I just want ye to be happy.’ And she was the end. Now can I have meh beer?”
Marsha struggled to contain her anger and frustration. “I’ve waited all this time and THAT’S the story you give me? Where’s the conflict? Where the adventure? Where is the prince?”
“I’ll tell ya where you can find them if’n you don’t give me tha beer.”
She stared at him for a minute, perhaps to intimidate him, or see if he would flinch, but he, drunk as he was, did not back down.
“Fine, Another beer, And more to the story.”
“Whatever ye say, you trifling wench.”
She returned with another beer for each of them.
“No more bullshit. You owe me. Do it right or I'll skin you.”
He burped loudly, giggled and started again.
“So ye want some drama? I can do tha. This princess
oh shit wha was her name
Sally
she”
“That’s not a name a princess would have.”
“Would you let me tell tha story ya wretched cow? Wha does it matter her name? So this Princess Sally she tell her da to piss off coz she weren’t marrying anyone.”
“Are you always this bad? Why do people pay for you for your storytelling? That’s not how a princess acts.”
“I do believe I’m starting ta remember why I never bothered with ye in the first place. You’re a right thorn in me arse. People pay me for the, ah, entertaining way I tells a story.”
“Well get back to it. And for the last time, tell it right.”
“Then stop interrupting me you god damn trollop. So this princess gets herself locked away in the tallest tower so her da can find her a husband. That night she jumps out tha window.”
“Wasn’t it a tall tower? You’re mixing up your stories.”
He just glares at her, his eyes starting to glaze over. “I’m a gunna pass out if’n ya keep bothering me, and I don’t want ye coming back. So shut yer dick scabbard and let me talk.”
Marsha frowned and opened her mouth to say something, but the look on his face made her think better of it. Instead she waved her hand, letting him know to continue.
“So this princess, she found some bed clothes or whatever and tied them together to climb down tha tower. Then she ran off into the night. Tha next day when her da went to get her he was stunned by tha empty room. As it happens tha king had invited some princes and knights to meet his daughter. So he sent them out to look for her. The end. If’n ya want more my glass is empty.”
Marsha, clearly annoyed, stood with a slight grumble and got another drink for him. She slammed it down in front of him. He smiled, closed his eyes and began to topple over. At the last second he caught himself and shook his head. “Now where was I?”
“The King was sending
”
“I know where I was. Didn’t I tell ya not to interrupt me.” He said laughing.
Marsha pulled her hand back as if to strike him but calmed herself.
“That’s wha I thought. Now if’n I may continue. So tha King he tells these knights and princes tha first one to find his daughter gets her hand. So tha knights, they agree to team up. Their names were ah Bill and Frank.” Seghan paused, expecting Marsha to voice some disgust but appeared she knew better. He belched loudly and continued, “So tha two knights went off but were quickly killed by some bandits coz they wer shit knights.”
Marsha shook her head, her lips thinning. “You’re not going to let me enjoy this are you?”
“Yer na having fun ya jezebel? Ima having a -hic- blast.”
“Just tell me about the princes and which one saves the princess.”
“Aye I think you’ll love this. So the Princes, Charles and William
”
Marsha clapped her hands together and smiled. “Finally! Those are some royal names!”
His eyes glimmered “So yer royal princes spent tha first day trying ta follow the princess’s tracks. Tha trouble was tha rain that had covered her tracks. They had ta spend tha night in a cave. That night, as a deep cold came in they had ta curl up close to each other. Now both of these knights had been trying to find themselves a princess for a number of years. Both of them never found someone who suited them, much to their parent’s chagrin. Well this night the two princes realized why they couldn’t find a woman to love; they wanted a man. They spent that night in the cave exploring each other and their new love.”
“I’ve put up with a lot of stuff but that is ridiculous! I paid you
”
“Ya haven’t paid me shite! You buy me a couple of beers, an keep demanding things from me. Ya come in here acting high and mighty and treat me like a dancing monkey. Tell me a story monkey! Perform on cue! I told ya I would do this outta tha kindness of me heart and you keep demanding stuff. It aint easy thinking of words and making a story. Least you can do is show me some respect. I aint got nothing but my stories you keep shitting on them. Nothing is ever good enough for you. Ima just trying to be rid of ya fer good. I know if I don’t finish something for ya, I'll never hear tha end of it. So sit there and let me tell it.”
“I’m sorry. I was only
”
“I know what ya was trying to do. You’d think tha way I speak to ya would give ya a hint. We aint friends no more. I promised ya this and I'm gonna tell it so I never has ta see ya again. Can I continue now?”
Marsha, a sad look in her eye, only nodded.
“So tha two princes, hand in hand exit the cave several days later and who do they see coming down tha path? Tha missing princess herself, wearing tha knight’s armor. At first when she sees them she starts ta run; but when she sees them holding hands she instead offers ta marry them. As a royal she could do tha sort of thing. And she knew it would piss off her da something fierce. She just makes them promise her one thing. And they agree. Tha night she tells them wha she had been up to tha last few days.”
Marsha’s eyes lit up, but she said nothing.
“After tha princess left the castle, she wasn’t sure where ta go, so she hid in tha forest. That night she saw tha two idiot knights get killed. She took ones armor, as he was close to her size, and headed off into tha woods. Tha supplies she had with her were quickly running out, so she started looking fer an animal to hunt. Wha her da dinna know, she liked to sneak out and train with a sword. She had been getting pretty good, coz she knew she might have ta run one day. So our princess, she sees a cave, largest cave you ever did see, and she went in hoping ta find some sleeping animals. Instead she found a dragon, sleeping in the center of a small pile of gold. Now being a princess, she had little need for gold, but she did get an idea how to escape her da and forced marriage. As she slowly moved towards tha dragon, its eyes flew open and
”
He stopped talking and just starred forward. “A
a dragon? And what? What happened? I’m sorry I was so vile you have to tell me!”
“Aye Ill continue. I need to see a man about a horse. I'll be right back.”
“A horse? I don’t
”
“Ima going to tha john! Get me another beer yeah?”
Finally smiling, she went and got him another beer. I suppose, she thought to herself, I should have cut him a little slack. This isn’t half bad, in the end. She sat back down and saw him exit the john. He was walking perfectly fine until he caught her looking; then he began to stumble.
“Now where was I? Ah tha dragon. So this dragon, it sees tha princess, hefting a sword over her head and it laughs. You ever hear a dragon laugh? It’s quite a thing. Tha princess, with determination in her face began to charge, when tha dragon bellowed, ‘Now lass, don’t be trying anything. I wouldn’t want ya to end up like those men.’ Tha dragon said, gesturing to tha corner of tha cave. The princess looked over and saw bodies and bodies piled up, armor cast aside. She looked back at the dragon, and put the sword down, but kept it at tha ready.
“’Now why are ye out here trying ta kill me? Shouldn’t ya be at home?’”
“’My da wants me to marry for his own benefit. I’m not ready ta marry. I just want ta be my own women. Not sold to some man. I ran away and stumbled upon your cave.’”
“’And you were just gonna kill me? In ma sleep? That’s incredibly rude lass. Weren’t ya raised better’n tha?’”
The princess, she looked ashamed and dropped the sword. “’I didn’t mean any disrespect, I had an idea on how I could escape me da and his plans. Now tha I think about it, I might be able to help you too, if’n your willing ta help me.’' She laid out her plan ta the dragon, and again, it laughed.
“’Aye princess, I'll help ya. I'll give ya some of my scales and a tooth. Good luck and remember our deal.’”
So the princess took what tha dragon had offered and started heading back. She hadn’t planned on meeting the princes, but now tha she had, her plan would come together.
Together they all headed back to tha castle.
The prince and a knight in full armor with his face covered, walked in to see tha king.
“’You have returned!’” the king said, clasping his hands together. “’But where is ma daughter?’”
“’My lord,’' tha uncovered prince said, “’She has retired to her room to clean up. A dragon had taken her hostage. But we have dealt with it.’' He tossed the scales and the dragon tooth to the king. “’There may be more, so I suggest you and your people avoid tha cave. But this one has been dealt with.’”
“That is wonderful news! What of the other knight and prince?”
The prince looked at the knight, and lowered his head. “’They didnae make it my lord.’”
“’A tragedy. But I am happy to have my daughter back. Now. Which one of you will take her hand?’”
The prince looked at the knight and said, “’My friend here shall have the honor. I have taken riches from the dragon and will be off to my homeland.’”
“’Why doesn’t the knight speak for himself?’”
“Before he speaks, he asks that you swear, in front of all these witnesses, he shall have your daughter’s hand, and tharight to it, no matter what transpires.”
“’Yes. Yes of course. May it be known throughout tha kingdom that this knight shall have ownership over my daughter’s hand. As King, I make it law. Good sir knight, what is thy name?’”
“As the knight takes off the helmet, the room is filled with gasps. Fer under the helmet was
”
“HOLY SHIT IT WAS SALLY!” Marsha exclaimed, interrupting.
“Aye yeah it was. Ye bothered me fer this story and ya go and ruin the ending?”
“I’m
I’m sorry it was just so
” she stammered.
“So wha? Good? I told ye I can write a story if’n ya give me tha damn time. Now can I wrap this up? I’m bloody tired.”
“I’m
I’m sorry go ahead.”
“Now the King, he was right pissed off but he could nae g back on his word. So the princess was able to decide for herself what her life brought. She made sure the dragon was left alone, and even sent word to it so the princes could have some gold to start over somewhere. When she became Queen the land prospered, and, in her own time, she found love and married. When she was ready. The end. Now can ya piss off? I need ta sleep.”
“I’m sorry I treated you so badly. But that was the best story I could have gotten. I was worried there but you pulled through. Thank you!”
“Yeah yeah now bugger off and leave me be. Don’t ask me fer nothing again.”

GE Appliances doing all the wrong things
I'm getting emails from GE Appliances that show inane practices. I'm short, they're training people to be hacked. The emails come with emoji in the subject line and body filed with flashing distractions, much like an old myspace page. Just a ton of nonsense. This started after I purchased the UltraFast all in one washer dryer.
And now there are survey emails that look like the attached image, with the emails coming from another address, geappliances@express.medallia.com. This email exhibits many characteristics that get people hacked: They don't know my name. The email address isn't from GE. And the body gives info that I've never seen, such as a case number and a person's name for someone I haven't dealt with before. It also has enough info that it's possibly a real email. But that's not enough to trust it.
GE Appliances needs to change their ways. I've had zero positive impression from any emails from this company. I absolutely will not recommend GE Appliances to others, no matter how awesome this washer is.

I’ll post some old ones I find here. Im not sure how we’d fill them out other than posting to our own Reddit profiles though!
Also if anyone knows of the new-ish social media platform that’s similar to MySpace (not on mobile) let me know cause I can’t remember the name at the moment. But I’d like to post the surveys there too once I find it!!

In the grand tapestry of human history, few threads have woven as intricately as the realms of creativity and technology. Like two cosmic bodies in a dance, these forces have coiled around each other, sometimes in harmony, other times in conflict, shaping the fabric of our world. As we stand on the precipice of a new chapter in this saga, it is paramount to delve into the past, survey the present, and gaze into the uncertain yet exhilarating future that lies ahead.
The Evolution of Technology: From Telegraph to Tweet The evolution of technology has been a breathtaking sprint from the humble dot and dash of Morse code to the dazzling symphony of social media hashtags. The rise of the internet era was a sonic boom heard around the world, propelling us into the interconnected cosmos of digital expression. The emergence of the World Wide Web in the 1990s unleashed a wave of creative potential, as individuals and businesses alike seized the opportunity to carve digital footprints into the virtual sand.
Social Media: The Digital Town Square If the internet was the dawn of a new era, then social media was the clarion call of revolution. Platforms like Friendster and MySpace were the early trailblazers, but it was Facebook that catapulted the concept into the stratosphere of societal significance. Suddenly, a digital town square emerged, where thoughts, photos, and cat videos flowed like water. The creative universe expanded exponentially, with individuals, brands, and artists harnessing the power of social media to reach global audiences and forge genuine connections.
Enter the Smartphone: Creativity in Your Pocket As technology surged forward, so did our connection to it. The advent of the smartphone transformed creativity from an abstract concept to a tangible experience that could fit in your pocket. With a swipe and a tap, creators could document life's fleeting moments, capturing inspiration wherever it struck. Smartphones became the modern-day canvas, as individuals snapped photos, crafted witty captions, and published micro-narratives to their ever-scrolling audience. (if you have enjoyed this tale of tech and want to go deeper into the emergence of the iPhone - Atti Archer takes readers back to Janurary 2009 here: https://www.thenerdseyeview.xyz/the-iphone-phenomenon-a-technological-odyssey-that-shaped-generations)
The Emergence of AI: Catalyst for the Next Frontier Just as the phoenix rises from its own ashes, the emergence of AI technologies ignited the imagination of a new generation of creators. Artificial intelligence transcended mere automation, diving into the realm of generation. Machine learning algorithms became sorcerers, conjuring art, music, and literature from thin air. The impact was profound, as the boundaries of human creativity were pushed further by the digital minds we had created. This AI-driven revolution also served as the harbinger for the next charted course of ".com" developments.
Content Creators: Architects of the Digital Age Enter the content creator, the bard of the digital age. No longer confined to the pages of a book or the frames of a canvas, content creators became architects of experience, designing stories, moments, and worlds that resonated with a global audience. These modern storytellers utilized the canvas of social media to create immersive narratives, from vlogs that chronicled daily life to cinematic masterpieces that turned mundane moments into visual symphonies. The rise of content creators also upended traditional power structures, as influencers transformed from nobodies to tastemakers, wielding influence over trends, brands, and even political discourse.
The Impact on Business and Shopping Experience In the wake of this transformation, the business landscape underwent tectonic shifts. E-commerce, once a novel concept, evolved into a formidable beast, with online marketplaces and brands embracing the digital realm. The content creator, with their ability to weave stories and cultivate communities, became a vital ally for businesses seeking to navigate the virtual waters. Collaborations between brands and creators became the norm, as authenticity and relatability emerged as the pillars of engagement.
But it wasn't just business that felt the tremors. The casual online user, whether scrolling through feeds or curating their online persona, became an unwitting participant in this narrative. The shopping experience metamorphosed, as individuals explored curated ads, personalized recommendations, and virtual try-ons. What once required a pilgrimage to brick-and-mortar stores could now be accomplished from the comfort of one's couch, transforming the very nature of the consumer experience.
AI as the Torchbearer: Shaping Tomorrow's Creative Landscape As we stand at this crossroads, AI emerges as the torchbearer, illuminating the path into uncharted territory. The strides in machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision empower creators with tools that stretch the boundaries of their imagination. AI-generated art, music, and even literature challenge the definition of creativity itself, blurring the line between human and machine-generated beauty. The landscape ahead is one of synergy, where creators and algorithms dance in harmonious rhythm, each amplifying the other's strengths.
Conclusion: As the symphony of creativity and technology swells to a crescendo, we find ourselves in a moment of exhilarating uncertainty. The story of our time is still being written, its final chapters waiting to be penned by the visionaries, artists, and dreamers of tomorrow. From the telegram to the tweet, the smartphone to the AI, the digital age has ushered in an era where creativity transcends boundaries and technology serves as both muse and medium. As we step forward into this evolving landscape, we do so with the knowledge that we are the creators of our own destiny, armed with tools that are as limitless as our imaginations.

2023.08.09 21:06 Necessary-Coffee5930 D287 Java Frameworks Ultimate Project Guide

WGU students, by now you have likely experienced or heard how this course is low effort, half finished garbage. Well, since they can't be bothered to fix this course, it is up to us to help each other out. This post is my attempt to help fellow students with this project. After stumbling through this project for like a month and a half, I finally finished it and here is my best attempt at a guide.

Firstly, get your IntelliJ Ultimate downloaded, and get your project files on your local machine. Check out my previous post at to get through task step A: https://www.reddit.com/WGU_CompSci/comments/153wwv8/comment/jv17256/

Alright, so this project basically gives you a web application built using Spring with a Java backend and a myspace looking old school HTML user interface, and your job is to customize the code to meet a customers needs. You need to come up with a shop that will have 5 sample products, and 5 generic parts that can be combined to make those products. They give the example of a bicycle shop that has different bike types for products, like mountain bike/ road bike etc. and then generic parts for those such as seat, handlebars, gears etc. Do not overthink this, just choose something and keep it simple and generic.

To know what the heck is going on, here is some background info. To get something like this to work, it is convenient to use a framework, something to contain all your different files and get them to work together the way we want, while offering tools and libraries to simplify development and let us focus on the logic and features of the application we are creating. Often used with Spring is Spring boot, a sub project of Spring that simplifies things for us even more by using embedded web servers so you don't have to install and configure a separate web server, while also offering auto-configuration, so we have less to do manually to make sure that any files/classes etc that depend on other files/classes/methods etc have the information shared to be able to carry out their functions. This project uses a common design pattern known as MVC (model view controller). This is a way to organize an applications files based on its function which promotes organization, modularization, maintainability, reusability, testability, and improves development efficiency. Now if you have opened your project, it may seem overwhelming the amount of files in there, so I am going to try to tell you what files belong to what part of MVC, and a bit about what they do so you know what you are looking at.
Model: represents the applications data and business logic. Encapsulates the core functionality and rules of the app, including data manipulation, validation, and interactions with the database. The files for this project relating to the model are:
View: responsible for presenting the data to the user and handling user interactions. It encompasses the user interface elements, templates, and visual elements that users interact with. Views receive data from the Model and render it in a way that's suitable for presentation. Views also capture user input and pass it to the Controller for further processing. The files for the view layer are:
Controller: These classes handle user requests, process input, interact with the Model, and determine which View should be rendered. Controllers are annotated with '@Controller'. In general, a controller in a Spring application is a class that handles incoming HTTP requests, processes them, and returns an appropriate HTTP response. Controllers typically have methods annotated with '@RequestMapping'(or other annotations like '@GetMapping','@PostMapping', etc.) to define the URL paths they handle and the HTTP methods they respond to. The controllers are found in src->main->java->com.example.demo->controllers.
Other Notable Files: There are some files that aren't included in MVC but are still important to recognize. These are:

Alright, hopefully that helps, I was completely lost and overwhelmed at first but hopefully that gives you some background and helps you see how the pieces fit together. If it doesn't make sense yet, it will start to as you work through the project and see how things work together and interact. Anyway, on to the tasks!
NOTE: to view and test your web app, open your browser and go to localhost:8080. This will show you your webpage in its current state. You must run the application successfully in IntelliJ for this to work. You will be using this a lot to make sure your changes are working the way you want and you are meeting the requirements.
Task B: This part is super easy, they want you to create a README file, but there already is one! What I did here was I kept the nice WGU and D287 header stuff deleted the rest, and then I copy and pasted the task requirements from parts C to J so I could type my changes for each part under the step it is a part of.

NOTE: For tasks C - J you have to commit and push with a message to the remote repository after the completion of each step. You are allowed to push more often, but at a minimum you must push after each step is completed and put a brief meaningful message. At the end you will have to get the history and submit it with your zip file. I made a new branch to do all my changes to, and named it working_brach, as this is more common than doing work on the main branch. To make a new branch, go to the bottom right of the screen, click the current branch, and it will bring up some options. Click new branch, name it something like working_branch, and check the box for checkout branch so that you make it the branch you are working on.

Task C: For this step, you will be working in mainscreen.html. You will need to customize this page to reflect your custom shop choice, changing the titles and headers appropriately. Make sure to log the changes and locations on the README. Once you have coded this and ensured it works and looks right on your webpage, commit and push with a message. You can do this by clicking the git tab and then clicking commit, and it should bring up a commit window where your project window usually is, and then you can select what changes to commit, type your message, and select commit & push. Almost every time I did this, I got warnings and it stopped the push, and I had to click push anyway.

Task D: For this part you need to understand some basic html. This step you need to make an about page, and so you will need firstly a template, so create a new html template with all your other templates (when asked if you want to add your new file to git, always say yes). This file will be where you create all the visuals for your about page, where you describe briefly your business and who its for. I just put some super generic stuff about how we care about the customer and giving back etc. I copy and pasted the first 12 or so lines from another html template just so it had the same styling and structure info as the other webpages. I personally tried to match the look of mainscreen.html, but you can make it however you want. Remember to catalogue each change you make in the README.md file. For example, if you add a title for your about page, you would put something like: -about.html: added title 'About' on line 15. You need to say what file, have it under the correct task letter, and say what line(s) the change(s) is(are) on and what the change(s) is(are). When you are satisfied with your about.html, you will need to make a controller for it in the directory with all the other controllers. The controller is being used to map the URL to the corresponding webpage and guiding Spring on which template to utilize for rendering the content. Remember to annotate your controller with '@Controller' just like in the other controller classes, and you will also need the @GetMapping("name_of_about_template_here") in your class definition to connect the template and the url such that you can reach this page and see it by going to localhost:8080/about_template_name_here. Check out the other controller classes to get an idea how for this, or watch a video on it if needed. On mainscreen.html, you will need to add a button that takes you to the about page you created, I just copy and pasted similar code for other buttons and changed the link for it and name to make this work. Similarly, on your about html file you will want to add a link or a button back to the mainscreen. Once you have coded this and ensured it works and looks right on your webpage, commit and push with a message.

Task E: Now you need to add a sample inventory consisting of 5 products and 5 parts. There is commented out code in the BootStrapData.java file that gives you an example of how to create a part and a product (in separate spots), you can use that and change it to make 5 of each. You either need to add an if statement that checks if the parts count and products count is zero before adding the sample inventory, or you will need to comment your code out after the sample is added to your page so you don't keep adding duplicates. If you don't add the logic to check for this, make sure to make a note somewhere to uncomment this code back out before you submit your project, or it will get sent back as they will not see your sample database get loaded in. (Hint: I used variables for part count and product count and set them equal to their respective repository classes and used the .count() method to see if both were == 0 before adding the sample inventory). Once you are done, commit and push with a message. Make sure you are logging all your changes!

Task F: This step asks you to add a Buy Now button next to the update and delete buttons for your products. The button needs to decrease the inventory of the purchased product by one, and make no changes to the inventory of parts. You need to display a message for failure or success of a purchase. First I would add the button to mainscreen.html in the appropriate spot. There is a table in mainscreen.html that sets up the products table, you will see it referencing tempProduct.name, .price, .inv, and then you will see the update and delete buttons. You will want to add your Buy Now button in here. The button here is a bit tricky as you need it to map to /buyProduct URL (we will make the controller for this later) and you need to set it up for http POST request so it can access and update the inventory amount for purchased products. You also need to pass a hidden input field so that you can pass the tempProduct.id along to the controller. I would post the code for this but I don't want this post to get taken down lol. Next you need to make a new controller to handle the desired behavior of the buy now button. Once you make your controller, make sure to annotate it as a controller. For this controller I added a private ProductRepository object with an '@Autowired' annotation, as the ProductRepository provides methods for interacting with the database which we need to do to decrement the inventory by 1 after purchase, and the annotation injects an instance of ProductRepository into this controller, which allows it to use the methods it needs. Just like the other controllers, we are going to make a public String method, I called it buyProduct. For its input parameters, you need to use the '@RequestParam' annotation to be able to obtain the productID from the product that was purchased over on mainscreen. Next I created an Optional object that assigns its value to the .findById method of the product repository, using the productID obtained from '@RequestParam'. By using Optional, the code handles the possibility that the requested product might not exist in the database. It avoids directly returning null when the product is not found, which helps improve code readability and reduces the risk of NullPointerException. This object basically represents whether the product was found in the database or not. Using that, you can set up if statements based on whether that object.isPresent() is true or not, and if it is true, you can create a Product object and set it equal to the optional object.get(). You can then set up an additional if statement that checks if that products inventory (product.getInv) is above 0, if it is then you can set the inventory for it to its current value -1 (decrement the inventory like the instructions wanted). Make sure to save this new value using the product repository .save() method to save the new count to the repository. If this part of the code is reached, then the product had enough in stock to be purchased, its inventory was subtracted by one to reflect a purchase, and now you can generate a success message. There are many ways to do this (as is the case with most of the project), but I personally made a new html template both for a purchase success and a purchase error. You can use a redirect statement in your return statement to the url of your success page for the case that the purchase went through, or to your error page if it did not. You will need to add '@GetMapping' annotations and displayPurchaseSuccess (or error) methods that return to the appropriate url. After the controller is all setup, you make your html templates for the success and error pages if thats the way you chose to do. These can be super simple, basically mine just said purchase successful or purchase error in big letters when the page loaded. When everything is working and looking the way you want, commit and push with a message.

Task G: In this step you have to add max and min inventory fields for parts, modify your sample inventory to show the max and min inventory, and update both the part forms to have additional inputs for the max and min inventory. Then they want you to rename the database file, and add code that enforces that the inventory is between the max and min values. First go to Part.java, and add the minInv and maxInv fields (name em whatever you want), you can also use the same '@Min' annotation as the other fields to enforce that it cannot be below zero, and have a message with it. Be sure to also add a new constructor that includes these new fields, and make getter and setter functions for them. Next go back to BootStrapData.java and add max and min inventory values for your sample inventory parts. Then for both InhousePartForm and OutsourcedPartForm, add text inputs for both max and min inventory. You can probably figure out how to put it in there just by seeing how the other fields are put in there and copying it but changing as necessary. Then rename the database file, it will look something like this spring-boot-h2-db.mv.db you can find it in file explorer or finder and right click it and rename it to whatever you like. In the application.properties file, you will need to rename it there as well and make sure they match. Next I would create a method in Part.java that checks if an inventory is valid, by returning true if the inventory falls between the max and min values, and returns false otherwise. For both inhouse and outsourced part controller files, add logic that uses the isInvValid method you created to generate an error message if the inventory is outside of range. I used BindingResult to reject bad values with a message, look into this for the error messaging. Once this is working as expected and desired, commit and push with a message.

Task H: This step wants you to add additional error messages and more specific error messages, one for if the inventory is below the minimum, one for if the inventory is above the maximum, and one for if adding/updating a product would cause an associated part to fall below the minimum. This isn't too bad, adding some more if else type logic to both inhouse and outsourced part controllers will take care of the first two conditions I listed. For the last requirement, I edited EnufPartsValidator.java with some additional requirements in the if statement that returns false to check if any of the parts for the product would fall below their minimum if the product was made (Hint: p.getInv() - 1 < p.getMinInv()). I also updated the error message from ValidEnufParts to be more specific. When you are happy with the results and everything has been tested and working, commit with a message and push.

Task I: Add two unit tests to the PartTest class for the maximum and minimum inventory fields. The course resources has a video for this. You go to the file, and use the '@Test' annotation, and then make two tests that look similar to the tests already in this file. For min, you can set the minimumInv to a number that you expect to be the lowest to be used for the program, its just an arbitrary test number. Then you use partIn and set its value to the variable you just assigned, and use assertEquals() to make sure that it works as expected. Repeat for partOut. Do all this again but for maximumInv. Thats it for this one. When it is working, commit and push with message.

Task J: Remove the class files for any unused validators. This one was so simple it had me doubting myself. When you open the validators, it will tell you how many usages intellij recognized for them. One of them had no usages so I deleted that one. It was really that simple lol. Commit and push with a message. This is the last step that needs to be tracked in the read me.

Now double check you meet all the rubric requirements, watch the completed project video from the course resources and make sure you got all the right stuff, and when you are satisfied and everything is working, export your project to a ZIP. Next on Gitlab, go to the code tab on the left hand side, expand it with a click and then select repository graph. This shows your commit and push history and must be turned in. Use print button and then specify print to PDF, and save it to your computer. You must turn this in with your project ZIP. Finally, get the url for your gitlab by clicking the blue clone button and copying the https url. When you submit, you need the ZIP, the repository graph, and the URL.

I hope this guide helps, please let me know of any mistakes or typos, I wanted to do this quickly and move on to my next course. If you have questions feel free to ask, but just know I stumbled my way through this and by no means to I understand everything or am an expert. This guide does not constitute the right way, best way, only way, or most efficient way to do this project. It is just what worked for me. I tried to tell you as much as possible without just giving things away and getting in trouble lol. When you guys finish this course, make sure to let them know honestly how you feel about the course in the end of course survey! Best of luck.

2023.06.09 21:02 Synikull Survey Results and the immediate future

Bleach will be joining the protest. You probably saw this coming after the survey. Before the wall of text we’ve all seen lots of times before, let me share my own observations and the data collected from the survey. The post talking about what this is, why we're doing it and what this means will be coming later today. But first my favorite part - the data -

Survey completion results
Before closing -
Two people used this survey as a chance to complain about not being able to be transphobic. Sucks for you two I guess. Even if we have completely misunderstood everything about Gisele and they aren’t a trans person (which is possible, but unlikely) this will still 100% be a ban on sight infraction. We’re not going to back down from defending the right of trans people to exist. Gisele is a morally shitty person. Attack them for that. Your infatuation with the genitalia of a fictional character is pretty damn worrying for your mental health. Live your own life and maybe stop thinking about dicks all the time?

2023.01.27 15:27 MountainCatLaw The r/CollegeBasketball "About Me" post

If you're old enough, you remember the shitty "About Me" surveys on MySpace where everyone responded to these circulating questionnaires with prompts like "When was the last time you cried?" Well, here's one for CollegeBasketball. Feel free to elaborate on answers as desired.
  1. Name one team you'd like to see win a title other than your favorite team.
  2. Name one team you'd like to see make it to a title game, only to get blown out.
  3. Name one team you'd like to see rocked by scandal. (Bonus: describe the ideal scandal)
  4. Name one current or former player that you respect from a rival team.
  5. Name one current or former player that you don't respect from your favorite team.
  6. Name one coach that you believe is underrated.
  7. Name one coach that you believe is overrated.
  8. Loyalties aside, if you were a recruit and had offers from everywhere, where would you go?
  9. Which team other than your favorite team has the best uniforms?
  10. Fuck, Marry, Kill: Pick any three teams that fit other than your favorite team.

2023.01.01 15:24 J-Force Our 20 Year Rule: You can now ask questions about 2003!

Hello everyone and goodbye to 2022! As most regular readers are aware, we have a 20 Year Rule on the subreddit where we only take questions on things that happened at least 20 years before the current year. You can read more about that here if you want to know the details on why we have it, but basically it’s to ensure enough distance between the past and present that most people have calmed down and we don’t have to delete arguments about Obama until at least 2028!
Two years ago, 2001 opened up to questions and we feared we’d be deluged with 9/11 questions and our yearly post was entirely focussed on that. In retrospect, we didn’t get the flood of questions we feared. Last year, when 2002 became available, there wasn’t actually much to ask about because 2002 was a mercifully boring year. But with 2003 there is once again an elephant in the room. We ended last year’s post noting:
See you next year, when you finally get to ask a million questions about Iraq and whether [insert politician here] is really a war criminal, despite all the other interesting things that happened in 2003.
So let’s get on with this, starting with the other stuff.
We Cloned a Horse, Myspace launched, and Britain (Technically) Went to Mars!
We all remember 2003 primarily for advances in cloning technology, right? I’m sure that was the main thing. May 2003 saw the birth of both the first cloned horse and the first cloned deer. As far as I could find out, both the horse and the deer live relatively uneventful lives in their respective environments. The deer, Dewey, has kids apparently. Anyway, not much actually came of this.
Ok, so 2003 isn’t remembered for cloning technology. But it is, in part, remembered for being a big year in tech, and particularly space exploration. On the bright side, the Spitzer Space Telescope launched on its mission to survey the sky in the infrared spectrum, the European Space Agency launched its first mission to the Moon, the Hubble Space Telescope began its now iconic Ultra Deep Field survey, and China launched its first manned space mission. The Mars Express mission, named for its uncharacteristically brief design and construction phase, launched carrying an orbiter that is still with us and a British lander called Beagle 2 that sort of worked. The lander never phoned home after entering the Martian atmosphere, and it was thought the mission had failed and that the lander was a metallic smear among the dunes, but it was spotted by a satellite in 2015 with what seemed to be nothing but a faulty solar panel
that was obstructing the antenna’s deployment. For all we know it carried out all preprogrammed scientific experiments, unable to tell us of the cool stuff it’s found. Oh dear. More seriously, it was the year of the Columbia disaster, when that space shuttle disintegrated and killed all seven astronauts on board. In tech news, Myspace and 4chan both launched in 2003. It also saw the end of the supersonic airliner Concorde. For the chronically online, 2003 was also the first year of Red vs. Blue.
In global affairs, it was a great year for the European Union as Slovenia, Slovakia, Estonia, Malta, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, and the Czech Republic all decided to join in referendums. The name “Yugoslavia” was finally removed from the map after the last state to use it renamed itself Serbia and Montenegro, though the Prime Minister of Serbia was assassinated shortly after. In Asia, things were taking a turn for the worse. Ethnically charged riots in Cambodia led to Thailand severing diplomatic relations, and North Korea withdrew from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. But the big problem was the emergence of SARS-CoV-1. The World Health Organisation put out warnings in March 2003 of the new virus, which (hard as it might be to believe in our post-Covid world) led to rapid and successful containment measures by governments across the world in April. By July, the WHO was content to declare the epidemic contained, and in the end it only killed 700-800 people. Considering that the sequel disrupted billions of lives and has killed millions, the global response to SARS was a resounding success. “Mission Accomplished”, one might say. Uh oh.
Okay Fine, Let’s Talk About Iraq
Nobody really associates 2003 with the Beagle 2 mission or the launch of 4chan. Even the demise of the famous Concorde only grabbed the attention of the news cycle for a couple of days in a handful of countries. The fact is, in much of the world, 2003 is associated overwhelmingly with one event: the invasion of Iraq by a coalition led by the United States and United Kingdom. Now, I’m not going to go into much detail because that is best left to historians with the requisite specialization, and I hope they can share their expertise in the comments to this post. What does concern us, as when 9/11 became available for questions, is arguing and misinformation. Infamously, the justifications for the Iraq War were dodgy and it remains a controversial issue, so let’s go over the facts. Fortunately, historians have been blessed by the work of Sir John Chilcot, whose 7 year long enquiry into the Iraq War for the British government resulted in a 12 volume report that is both publically available and fantastically thorough, if only for the British side of things. It’s not perfect, but as a medievalist I would give a lot to work with sources that are 1% as revealing as this.
In the 1990s, Saddam Hussein had failed to comply with UN inspections by obfuscating and destroying evidence, then denying entry to inspectors altogether, so he was up to something that would alarm the international community. Then in 2002 it became clear that Saddam Hussein was rearming and expanding his military. In particular, a surge of activity surrounding ballistic missile development had caught the attention of the UN. Given Hussein’s historical belligerence, this set off alarm bells at the UN Security Council, which passed Resolution 1441 in response calling on Iraq to disarm. Both US President George W. Bush and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair gave statements in late 2002 urging Iraq to disarm in accordance with the will of the UN Security Council, but over time an unstated “or we will invade” became less and less implied. US Secretary of State Colin Powell was chiefly responsible for making the case against Iraq among the international community in numerous sessions of the UN. By early 2003 it was clear that Hussein had no intention of disarming (though he had agreed to let UN inspectors back in) and that the US would respond to non-compliance by invading Iraq and deposing Hussein’s government with planning for an invasion well underway by the end of 2002.
But there was something strange going on with the justifications for war. In the US, rhetoric focussed on supposed links between Hussein and the 9/11 attacks. This had a profound effect on public opinion. Polling in 2003 found that around 45% of US citizens believed Hussein had personal involvement in 9/11, though the BBC reported that it was as high as 70% in a piece from September 2003. Polling also found that it was widely thought in the US that most of the 9/11 hijackers were Iraqi. None of this was true and the folks in charge knew it, but senior politicians - especially Vice President Dick Cheney - pushed it hard to the dismay of the intelligence community. In case it needs to be made any clearer, Saddam Hussein did not plan 9/11. Bush, Cheney, and Powell were lying when they suggested he did.
The stuff about weapons of mass destruction was also fishy. The main evidence discussed publicly by the US revolved around documents suggesting the sale of uranium to Iraq from Niger and the purchase of large amounts of aluminium tubing which, the US alleged, would be used to enrich the uranium purchased from Niger. Problem is, the Institute for Science and International Security concluded the tubing probably couldn’t be used for uranium enrichment and the International Atomic Energy Agency quickly spotted that the documents claiming to show the sale of uranium were forgeries.
In the UK, claims of Hussein’s WMDs revolved around an intelligence report released in September 2002 and another in February 2003 that was so full of holes it became known as the “Dodgy Dossier” in the British press. Prime Minister Tony Blair and US Secretary of State Colin Powell praised it as solid evidence of Hussein’s supposed WMDs, but an investigation the British TV channel Channel 4 found the report was heavily plagiarized and that its sourcing was abysmal. Although Blair admitted that the report should have attributed its sources better, he stood by it despite its obvious unsuitability as the basis of government policy. As we now know, Saddam Hussein was not proactively developing nuclear or chemical weapons. As it turned out, the regime’s chemical weapons stockpile was from the 1980s or earlier, and there is no evidence that Hussein had a nuclear weapons programme at the time of the invasion. It was also claimed that Iraq had a fleet of drones to deliver such WMDs to American soil, which was nonsense.
Despite clear flaws in the case for war, the invasion began on March 19 2003, though special forces from around the world had been in Iraq for weeks before and the SAS fought a skirmish on March 17 with air support. A bombardment of missiles and air strikes signaled on March 19 that war had begun, including a failed attempt to kill Hussein and his family. Broadly speaking, the plan was for US forces to advance up the Euphrates river on the southern side while UK-led forces did likewise on the northern side. Meanwhile, insurgents were to attack across Iraq while the Kurds opened a front in the north along with coalition paratroopers. Although parts of the invasion did not go as well as planned - notably the city of Basra was expected to surrender quickly but tied down British and Polish forces until April 6 - the Iraqi army crumbled faster than anticipated and what looked like a strong victory was achieved in only one month. On May 1, George Bush famously stood on an aircraft carrier in front of a big banner reading “Mission Accomplished”; an image that has aged like fine milk. In his victory speech, Bush said there was still much work to do. Notably, Saddam Hussein had not been captured, and wouldn’t be until December.
Was the invasion legal? Well, we are historians and not lawyers so we’re not really qualified to definitively say. The Blair and Bush administrations argued that Resolution 1441 and previous resolutions against Iraq’s rearmament permitted UN members to take whatever military action was necessary to enforce their terms. However, there were a lot of government officials arguing privately, and occasionally publicly, that the invasion was a violation of international law. The Dutch government conducted an enquiry to determine the war’s legality for the benefit of their parliament, and found it was illegal. In the UK, when the Chilcot Report was published in 2016, it emerged that there were serious doubts about the legality of the invasion. In particular, the British Foreign Secretary at the time, Jack Straw, argued in a private letter to Tony Blair in 2002 that his understanding of Resolution 1441 was that a new, specific UN mandate for an invasion would be required to make a war legal. The General Secretary of the UN said that if the goal of the invasion was to effect regime change (which Bush had said it was) then it was contrary to the UN Charter.
Given the dubiousness of the war’s justification and the lack of UN approval for military action, it was the view of many legal experts at the time - and since then - that the war should be legally considered a war of aggression and therefore a crime. Then there are the war crimes and abuses committed during the invasion and occupation, which I have neither the space nor the tactfulness to adequately discuss here and I hope some of our flared users might be able to offer their expertise.
Which brings me onto a reminder of some of our rules. Given some of the trepidation we have about the Iraq War being open to questions, we want to make some things clear. Firstly, it’s only 2003 that has become open to questions, so if your questions spill over into 2004, we’re going to delete them. Try to keep Iraq War questions to the initial invasion and first few months of occupation. Secondly, we have rules about soapboxing and loaded comments in both questions and answers. While there is no such thing as an unbiased answer, there is such a thing as an answer or question that is clearly pushing an agenda at the expense of the facts, and we don’t like those. If you’re one of the millions of British people who want Tony Blair to be tried as a war criminal, that’s cool but don’t go on about it here. If you despise Saddam Hussein, that’s fine but post about it elsewhere. If you like Dick Cheney, you’re allowed to have that opinion but don’t bring it to our comments. If you want to ask “How was the 2003 invasion of Iraq viewed under international law at the time?” that’s a fair question, but if you want to ask “Why is George Bush a war criminal?”, then that is a leading question and we will delete it.
Finally, we recognise that some of our readers, and potential contributors, fought in the Iraq War or know someone who did. Please keep in mind that we have a rule regarding anecdotal evidence, not because first hand accounts don’t have value (they certainly do!) but because of the reasons we set out here.
That concludes our summary of some of the things that are now available for questions. See you again in 2004 when you get to ask about the return of the Summer Olympics to Athens and a new tech thing called “The Facebook”.

2022.12.28 03:43 suprnovastorm What are some of the most intriguing examples of character homework you've given to players or received from your DM?

I had my players do a "myspace bulletin survey" and they really enjoyed it. I also had them think of a few characters in media that they related to their D&D characters - this helped them and the other players with visualization. In the beginning, I had them do some digital models on heroforge.
I like to try to give them something to work on in between our sessions. Do you guys have any recommendations? Thanks in advance, happy rolling!

2022.11.26 18:02 Caffeinated_Kittens The Biggest Crush I Have Ever Had On Someone Part 1

Hello, all. First-time poster here. TL,DR at the bottom. Today I wanted to share my ongoing struggle with a crush I have on someone. An attraction towards another person so potent that it almost feels like an illness, and I wanted to vent about it anonymously to a community in hopes that it helps me deal with these feelings. Throwaway account since my GF is also on Reddit. She knows about the whole situation but I don't think she knows just how much it is on my mind, and I don't feel comfortable discussing it with her for obvious reasons. So I decided to log my experiences on this sub-Reddit both for the sake of catharsis and in hopes that some can relate and even discuss.

Let's travel back in time to 2004/2005 , my senior year of high school. A time of self-discovery and many regrettable decisions. I was the typical niceguys sans fedora. I had an abusive upbringing and suffered a lot of bullying in my younger years, so my self-esteem was something I struggled with greatly at the time. Even though I was actually reasonable to look at, I found it impossible to believe that a girl whom I crushed on would actually reciprocate due to my severe lack of confidence, and this is where my problem would begin.

So there was this one girl in my school who we will just refer to as "E". For some time, E was just another face I would pass by in the halls during passing time. She wasn't in any of my classes, and for a while I barely even knew she existed, until one day.

Now, this is where things get weird, and I don't know if anyone has had a similar experience. As stated before, I barely knew E existed. But I still knew she existed. One fateful night, I had a strange dream that to this day I remember vividly. I was at a school dance in our high school's gymnasium. It had a formal vibe like homecoming and it was packed with students dressed in formal attire. The only thing that was off was the fact that there were booths and tables set up in the gym, so it was a combination of a school dance and a fancy restaurant, with servers walking around balancing platters of food and drinks. One of the servers who was carrying a large tray of drinks had fallen over and the glasses all came crashing down, causing everyone standing around the area to back up in a circle around the whole mess. I was in that crowd, and E was standing next to me. I made some off-hand, witty remark about the situation to her (I don't remember what it was) that made her laugh, and then a slow song came on, so I asked her to dance and she agreed, at which point I woke up.

Immediately after I woke up, I couldn't stop thinking about her. It was crazy to me how one day I hardly knew this person existed, and the next day I was obsessed. When I went to school the next day, I started to keep my eyes peeled for her in the halls. From then on, every time I merely saw her in the halls, she gave me butterflies. Just this overwhelming feeling of excitement one feels when they encounter theit crush. Naturally, I figured the next step would be pursuing her. So I started to ask around.

Since she wasn't in any of my classes, and I had no clue what her name was, all I had to go by was the location of her locker, which I had discovered by wandering the halls in the morning before school started. So I did some detective work and found out through one of my friends what her name was and who she hung out with.

Because this was so long ago, I don't remember all of what happened but I somehow started to talk to her core group of friends, and like a typical high-schooler, I told them I liked her and wanted to know if she liked me back. Later, they came back and told me that she "wanted to go to a club with me" or something along those lines, which was basically to say that she was interested in going on a date. I was floored. Remember how I said I was reasonable to look at, but had such serious self-esteem issues that the notion that someone I crushed on so hard would reciprocate that feeling was unimaginable? Well, I didn't believe it. No way someone so attractive could be into me.

But it was true. I did indeed have a chance with her, and being so unsure of myself, I shot my shot without having any real plan for what to do in the event of a positive response. So the next step was to have her friends actually introduce me to her. During passing time when everyone was out in the halls, I went with her friends to go meet her. When the time finally came and I was faced with her, I was so consumed with paralyzing anxiety that I backed down. That's right. I turned around and fled with my tail between my legs. I was so lacking in self-confidence, and so sure that I would screw things up that I felt like the better option was to just not go through with it. To this day I wonder what could have been had I just gone through with it.

However, things weren't completely over just yet. I still talked to her friends, and if what I knew about high school girls was true, they were damn sure talking about me, as I was about her to my friends at the time. There was still time to work up courage to make a move. Later on, however, something would happen that would ruin things completely. Back in high school, I was a smoker. I would always hang out across the street from the school in the mornings and smoke in the strip mall near the Chinese restaurant across the street from the school where all the smokers would congregate, since smoking was forbidden on school grounds. I had one friend over there with whom I would smoke and chat before class. We will just call him "NB". One day in the school hallways during passing time, I passed E and her friends, and NB was walking right behind them. Now, I had kept my tobacco use as hidden as I could from her, thinking that she would mostly be repulsed by that sort of thing. My plan was to get with her first and worry about quitting smoking later. NB then very loudly asked me, within clear earshot of E, if I had a cigarette. I Immediately looked back at E and saw her head jolt. You know, that thing that one does when they overhear something about someone they like that is deal-breakingly repulsive. It was then confirmed for me that she did, in fact, have a thing for me, and that it was ruined right there in one fell swoop. I was crushed.

Once the school year ended, I had graduated, and would no longer see her. But I didn't want to give up that easily. Back in the early 2000s, before TikTok and SnapChat and Facebook, my generation used MySpace, an early social networking site similar to Facebook. At the time, such social media was ground-breaking, and I was amazed that I could just look someone up and communicate with them on the computer. So I looked her up and found her profile. You see, MySpace had these surveys where you could answer a bunch of questions about yourself and post it publicly on your profile. I looked at what she wrote on her survey and learned some new things about her that at the time I found interesting. Then, after much debating and hyping myself up, I sent her a friend request. The request would go unanswered, of course. It was probably just because she was repulsed by my smoking, but I, being the self-esteem-lacking pessimist that I was, thought she was creeped out by me, hated me, and wanted absolutely nothing to do with me. Whatever the case, I eventually found a new relationship with a new girl that would take my mind off of E. I even remember going to a nearby well-known fast-food chain restaurant with my new girlfriend and saw E and her friends there, and was holding hands with and hugging this new girl right in front of her. After that I slowly began to forget about E, and high school would be the last place I would ever see E on a regular basis. Or so I thought...

Stay tuned for Part 2 of this saga, as this is far from over. Thanks for reading, I hope it was enjoyable/relatable.

TL;DR-I develop a massive crush on this girl in my high school, get my chance, blow it, and severely regret it.

Gould: No, the committee did not reach such a conclusion.
If there's no straightforward answer on such a fundamental question, what is the value of the report? Why is it important? Gould: Good question. 2022.09.12 01:22 and-kelp Career satisfaction?

Let’s kick it off myspace survey style:
  1. Do you work a “computer job”? (All essential and core functions of your work require a computer.) Share as many details about your work as you’re comfortable sharing.
  2. Rank your career satisfaction 1-10 (10 being completely satisfied)
  3. If you could wave a wand and change your field, would you? If so, to what?
——-
I have a really hard time explaining this to people, and I’m wondering if I can find some comfort and like-minds among my ENFP fam.
I am a design, writing, and marketing professional. My employer is great, and the mission and ethics are spectacular, and it’s one of the coolest places I’ve worked. And let me tell you - just about every day, I get sick to my stomach about feeling stuck in a 9-5 grind still, wasting away in front of a computer screen.
I really struggle with the intangibility of my impact. I want to be interacting with and leading people; I want to do big things and make a difference. I want to plant trees, house the homeless, and cure addiction
I want to save the world!! 😅 It’s like a calling that grows louder the longer I try to ignore it.
Y’all probably understand that this is in NO way an elitist mindset; I actually really envy people who are completely happy typing away on a computer 40 hours a week and have total job satisfaction. It’s just that primal urge to join in the good fight when you see bad things happening
I’m over here thinking like, “Kids are starving to death in Afghanistan, Linda, why do we care if the red on this poster is slightly off from our brand standard?”
tl;dr any office ENFPs out there feeling like a bird with their wings clipped by capitalism?
ETA: I just wanna get ahead of the comments like “do it!” and “what are you waiting for?”
 (1) I’m getting there, it takes time. (2) It isn’t as simple as going back to school and hitting the restart button. Everyone has unique situations and risk tolerance for a big change like this. I’m just here looking for comfort that I’m not alone, and to hear how others have dealt with it. đŸ„°

Q: Favorite opera aria/art song? A: The Black Swan from The Medium (which is weird because I HATE singing in English and I’m not all that good at the piece lol. Sentimental value, I suppose)

In today's news we are going over Do Kwon allegations, ETH merge, Celcius problems....read more about it down below!

Do Kwon dismisses allegation of cashing out $2.7B from LUNA, UST

The rumor surfaced after a Twitter thread by FatManTerra shared the alleged details on how Kwon, along with Terra influencers, managed to drain funds while artificially maintaining the liquidity.
Do Kwon, the CEO and co-founder of the infamous Terra (LUNA) and TerraUSD (UST) ecosystems, refuted the claims of cashing out $80 million every month for nearly three years.
Numerous unconfirmed reports surfaced on Saturday, claiming Kwon’s participation in draining liquidity out of Luna Classic (LUNC) and TerraUSD Classic (USTC), before the crash to purchase United States dollar-pegged stablecoin such as Tether (USDT).

Ethereum difficulty bomb delayed but network adoption still growing

Ethereum network developers have decided to delay the difficulty bomb, a major step leading up to the highly anticipated Merge upgrade for the layer-1 blockchain.
They set the delay to two months in order to “be sure that we sanity check all the numbers before selecting an exact delay and deployment time” according to core developer Tim Beiko in a June 11 tweet.
There are also no press releases or announcements related to the NFT solution on Alibaba’s website anymore, and while the solution’s webpage link still shows up in Google search results, it now redirects to Alibaba Cloud’s solution index page.
he difficulty bomb will be a measure to disincentivize ETH mining operations from keeping their physical mining devices running as the network transitions from proof-of-work (PoW) to proof-of-stake (PoS).
It dramatically increases the difficulty for miners to verify transactions on the network, thus reducing profitability for PoW miners. Eventually, it will become impossible for physical miners to validate a block. The difficulty bomb is a feature of the network added to the code in 2016 as plans for the Merge to become the Consensus Layer (formerly known as ETH 2.0) were being formed.
Transitioning to PoS should reduce the Ethereum network’s energy demands by up to 99.9% according to some estimates. Other PoS networks such as Polygon and Fantom Opera, boast negligible power demands compared to other PoW networks.
Although Beiko does not mention it, delaying the difficulty bomb could lead to further delays for the Merge itself, which is expected to take place in August 2022.cointelegraph.com

‘The metaverse will empower human beings’, declares Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways announced Tuesday that it had launched its first metaverse experience, QVerse. This virtual reality platform allows interested parties can virtually visit and navigate the Premium Check-in area at the International Airport of Hamad (HIA).
According to the company's statements to Cointelegraph however, QVerse is merely the company's first foray into the metaverse. The company said that it intends to expand its virtual environment initiatives and believes that the metaverse is part of the future of human relations.
According to the company, its entry into the metaverse reflects its passengers desire for “immersive content that can empower their decision-making before buying a ticket, and are often eager to discover the aircraft they will fly.”
Last year Qatar Airways became the first airline in the Middle East to adopt the IATA Blockchain 'Digital Passport', in partnership with the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Recently, the US Air Force also announced its entry into the metaverse and filed a trademark application for an initiative called SpaceVerse. While details of the order and what the SpaceVerse are scarce, the order highlights that this will be a virtual reality training, testing and operations environment for the US defense agency.Top of Form

NFT flipping not so profitable for more than half of buyers: Survey

With the surging popularity of nonfungible tokens (NFTs), many have taken to “flipping” these assets as a trading strategy. Around 64% of people in a recent survey said their top reason for buying an NFT was “to make money.”
Blockchain monitoring software company DEXterlab polled more than 1,300 people on Twitter about their NFT buying habits from late May to early June. Despite a majority looking to gain from NFT trading, less than 42% have made a profit so far, according to the results.
The second most cited reason for buying an NFT saw around 15% respond that it was to be part of a community and “to flex.”
“People are highly social creatures, so the desire to be a part of a community and show off isn’t really surprising,” DEXterlab wrote.
The team highlighted the success of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), which has celebrities among its ranks along with exclusive perks like access to holder-only events or new popular NFT drops. cointelegraph.com
Web5 announced by Jack Dorsey’s Block to replace web3 as future of internet
the evolution of the web
TBD believes that the evolution of the internet puts “individuals at the center.” In the first web version, most of the content was static HTML except for forums and chat protocols such as IRC. The social media evolution led to what is known as web2 and allowed users to interact with centralized applications such as Facebook.
Twitter and MySpace to create their own content and share information in real-time. With the invention of Bitcoin and blockchain, the world is now moving towards web3, which centers around decentralized applications using zero-knowledge proofs to secure data, tokenized content, and protect users’ identities.
While web3 has yet to establish itself as the dominant technology of the internet, Jack Dorsey believes it is already time for a change. This change comes from what he calls web5, which will be built on top of Bitcoin, where data is stored with the user, not the application. The amalgamation of web2 and web3 creates web5 for those confused about where web4 went. The slide below illustrates the difference between the current internet and web5. cryptoslate.com

Validator Wars: New LUNA validators accused of unethical behavior

LUNA validators PFC, Lavender.Five and Red Herring have called out new validators to raise the commission levels from 0% to 20% without informing their delegators. According to Larry, a developer from Delphi Digital, LUNA validators can earn up to $192k annually after receiving the genesis delegator attribution of 2.5M LUNA.

Multiple validator nodes

Aside from the validators increasing commission without informing their communities, Red Herring also identified three other validators, “Luna Whale, Lunatic Validator, and Long Live Luna,” for unethical behavior. Red Herring detailed the setup of each of the three validators and noticed the similarities:
– No logo – Generic Luna related names – 20% commission – Max commission change rate of 20% – No website/social media presence/email contact
Red Herring then checked the on-chain data for each of the validators’ wallets. Each of the wallets transferred its commissions to the same wallet, “terra1hm4w,” and then onto a final wallet, “terra1kl6e,” after collecting the tokens. The LUNA held by these validators is without any vesting schedule. The validators have taken advantage of the genesis distribution of LUNA tokens to set up multiple validators. As Red Herring explained, cryptoslate.com

Crypto Lending Service Celsius Pauses Withdrawals, Citing 'Extreme Market Conditions'

Crypto lending service Celsius announced early Monday it would pause withdrawals, citing "extreme market conditions."
The company announced it would also pause its swap and transfer products, according to a blog post. It did not provide a timeline for resuming withdrawals.
"We are working with a singular focus: to protect and preserve assets to meet our obligations to customers. Our ultimate objective is stabilizing liquidity and restoring withdrawals, Swap, and transfers between accounts as quickly as possible. There is a lot of work ahead as we consider various options, this process will take time, and there may be delays," the blog post said.
The announcement comes on top of Celsius telling nonaccredited investors that they could no longer transfer funds.
The company also recently replaced its Chief Financial Officer, after former CFO Yaron Shalem was arrested by Israeli police in 2021.
The price of Celsius's CEL token fell over 50% after the news came out.
The company has also faced regulatory issues, with law enforcement entities issuing cease-and-desist orders against it.
