Sound Like ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION Pt.2: Kensuke Kita (2024 version)

Introduction

Kensuke Kita performing live, 2017
^(\This article is an updated version of my "Sound Like" article from 2021. I have reposted this article due to difficulties editing the original version*, and have included additional information and recommendations based on the increased popularity of amp simulator pedals*)*
Hello fellow musicians and Ajikan fans!
I have been a fan of ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION for roughly 16 years and as a guitarist was greatly inspired by the band's alt rock sound.
After a few years of research I have written a series of "sound like" articles for ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION. The purpose of these articles is to provide context on how the band create their signature sound, and to support beginning musicians or tribute acts who may wish to replicate it.
At the end of each article I have drafted a Budget Rig, which you could use for both at home and in a live environment. I have also provided some general amp settings to tweak and try, which are based on the band's live sound and be can used to help replicate their tones.
This is a 3-part series and if you enjoy this article I would recommend checking out the other articles:
Sound Like ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION Pt.1: Masafumi Gotoh (2024 version) :
ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION Sound Like Part 3: Yamada : AsianKungFuGeneration (reddit.com)
Please not that this article focuses on the band's live sound, which will be different to the albums and can vary depending on the venue. Also (and is a cliché) every musician and instrument will vary slightly due to small differences in play style and build, so also be mindful of that.
To help you recognise the individual guitar tones, Gotch's guitar parts are normally panned to the left earphone and Kita's are panned to the right earphone on the band's albums. (On 2016's Sol-Fa, Hometown and on some of the Planet Folks singles the panning was swapped, with Gotch instead in the right ear and Kita on the left)

Kensuke Kita

Kita during the Hometown UK/FR tour 2019
In this article we are focusing on lead guitarist and backing vocalist Kensuke Kita. Responsible for many of the band's iconic melodies and riffs, Kita's rig setup is a classic rock setup: a Gibson Les Paul and Marshall-esque amp.
Inspired by 90's alt rock and Brit Pop groups such as Supergrass, Blur, Manic Street Preachers and Radiohead, Kita has constantly evolved as a musician and became more involved with the song writing process from Fanclub onwards. (Kita has writing credits on Blue Train)
This evolution can be seen clearly when you compare the punk rock style of Houkai Amplifier with the more experimental, pop inspired Planet Folks. While the earlier records reflected a focus on riffs and octave melodies, Kita now prefers to play around major and minor third chords, triad chords and arpeggios, reflecting his "melody-maker" role in the band.
A triad chord is a chord made of 3 separate notes. They are commonly played on the higher strings and Kita uses them a lot, in tracks such as Aru Machi no Gunjou, Sayonara Lost Generation and Gekkou. Major and Minor third chords are sometimes referred to as Dyads if they only include two notes.
During live performances Kita is known to experiment with ambient tones, but in this article the focus will be capturing a general sound that could be used across the band's discography.

GUITARS

Kita's primary guitar has always been a variant of the classic Gibson Les Paul. The humbuckers are known to having a warmer, fatter tone in comparison to a single coil or P-90 pickup. There will be some debate over using active or passive pickups but in general Kita sticks to a more traditional humbucker, which may have less of a punch than an EMG pickup.
Kita's most recognisable guitar is his Historic Collection 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue. Kita bought the 59's reissue in 2004 and it has been a main guitar ever since, using it on every Ajikan album from Sol-Fa onwards.
Kita's Historic Collection 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue
Kita's backup guitar is a Historic Collection 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue, which is tuned to Eb/D# for songs such as After Dark and Yoru No Call. Kita's other standout guitar is his Gibson ES-335, which is used occasionally for songs with a capo. Kita has been seeing using it for performances of Juuni Shinhou no Yuukei and Maigo Inu to Ame no Beat.
Kita has also experimented with Fender Telecasters, Jazzmasters and Stratocasters on the band's albums, although neither have been seen on stage so far. In a interview with Guitar Magazine, Kita confirmed that he used a Fender Jazzmaster on Empathy.

Between 2002-2007, Kita armed his Les Pauls with Gibson Burstbucker 2 in the bridge position and the Burstbucker 1 in the neck position. Since 2007, Kita has used Custombuckers in both positions. Like Gotch, Kita uses Tortex Flex picks and are most likely .73mm or .88mm variants
If you are looking to capture Kita's guitar sound, a Les Paul style guitar with vintage or Gibson pickups would be the best place to start.

AMPLIFIERS

In the band's early years Kita used a Marshall JCM 900-4100 head with a Marshall 1960A cabinet. In 2005, Kita replaced the Marshall amp with the Bogner Ecstasy 101b and Bogner 4x12 Cabinet, which he has used ever since as his main live amplifier.
Kita's JCM900 amp, used during the early 2000's and Sol-Fa 2004 tour
The Bogner Ecstasy has 3 unique channels which Kita switches between throughout the show. I have included a link below which goes into more detail, but essentially the amp has a "green" clean channel, a the "blue" crunch channel and a "Red" heavy channel. The Bogner also has a boost feature that Kita uses for solos.
Channel 1 - Bogner Ecstasy 101B User Manual [Page 2] ManualsLib
Both the JCM900 and Ecstasy amps are based on vintage Marshall sounds, whereas most modern Marshall amps tend to have a slightly darker, more compressed sound.
During most of the 2000's and early 2010's Kita only used the Bogner Ecstasy for live performances, but in 2012, Kita introduced the Shinos Luck 6V combo to his live setup. The Shino's is now used for most of Kita's clean sound, with the Bogner acting as his heavy tone.
The Shinos amps were set up by a former VOX Chief engineer and in general has a blend of Fender and Vox amps tones. They have also been compared to Matchless amps, which Kita has used occasionally on international tours.
Kita's Bogner Ecstasy 101b and Shinos Luck V6
Kita's clean sound can be heard on Angou No Waltz, Mustang and Yuugure no Aka, while his heavy sound can be heard on Standard, Re:Re: and Kouya wo Aruke. Kita has been seen live using the Bogner's red channel on Ima Wo Ikite.
Kita has experimented with several amplifiers in the studio and has been known to use JCM800's, VOX, LDW and Matchless amps on albums, but for the purpose of this article we will look to emulate Kita's vintage Marshall & Bogner tone.
Kita used 4x12 Greenback speakers in his Marshall cabinet (this was used up until 2005 & has likely used Celestion Vintage 30 speakers since buying the Bogner Ecstasy. The Shino's is likely set up with the Celestion Classic Lead 80 speaker.)

PEDALS

Kita's 2004 pedalboard, used during the Sol-Fa tour
Kita's role as lead guitarist requires him to have a larger, more varied pedalboard when compared to Gotch. In the band earlier years, Kita did have a smaller setup, and was generally built around a delay pedal, a phaser, a wah effect and the MXR Dyna Comp.
During the Eizo Sakushin Shu Vol. 6 performance, where he used a Boss DD-20 Giga Delay, an MXR M-132 Super Comp, Boss PH-2 Super Phaser, a Guyatone WR3 Wah Rocker and VoxV847 Wah pedal. Kita also used a BOSS TR-2 Tremolo at this time.
Kita's 2009 Pedalboard, which was used during the Eizo Sakushin Shu Vol. 6 performance
The Super Comp is set up almost like a boost effect, to help lift the lead melodies and solos, whereas the phaser can be heard in performances of Mustang and Shinkokyuu. The Giga Delay can be heard in tracks such as Night Diving, Re:Re: and Mugen Glider, as well as the band's ambient jams. The Wah Rocker was used specifically for the Surf Bungaku Kamakura tracks, which he used heavily on the album for lead.
After the release of Magic Disk Kita's board gradually evolved to include a larger selection of modulation effects and delays, in line with the band's changing sound. He has also introduced fuzz and distortion pedals from time to time. For example, he has added the BOSS Tone Bender and Earthquaker Transmisser on the Planet Folks tour.
Kita has also implemented more octave pedals onto his board, which he uses for lead parts on Blood Circulator and the Hometown tracks Boys & Girls and Clock Work. The Electro Harmonix POG2, which can be seen on his current rig below, is used for the intro of Kakato de Ai o Uchinarase to emulate an organ sound.
Kita's current 2022 Pedalboard: (1) FREE THE TONE/JB-41S (Junction Box) (2) Jim Dunlop/535Q Crybaby Multi-Wah (Wow Pedal) (3) Custom Audio Japan/RS 616 (Programmable Switcher) (4)MXSuper Comp (Compressor) (5) Electro-Harmonix/POG2 (Octave) (6) BOSS/TB-2W (Fuzz) (7)EarthQuaker Devices/Transmisser (Modulation/Reverb) (8) strymon/ZELZAH (multi-phaser) (9) BOSS/MD-200 (multi-modulation) (10)(11) BOSS/DD-20 (multi-delay) (12) BOSS/FRV-1 (reverb) (13) Electro-Harmonix/FREEZE (sustainer)(14) BOSS/FS-5U (foot switch) (15) BOSS/TU-2s (tuner) (16) RJM/Amp Gizmo (amplifier channel switcher) (17) FIREGLOW/PPS-05 (power supply) (18) Vital Audio/VA-08 Mk-II (Power Supply)
To help manage his massive pedalboard on stage, Kita has been using a Custom Audio Switcher to control his pedals, which also allows him to create presets for each song.
The guitar runs into the Junction box (top right) and wah pedal before going into the switcher. Kita can then control the effects and amps with the switcher. I have included these loops below:
Loop 1: Dyna Comp Loop 2: Dyna Comp, POG 2, Tone Bender, Transmisser Loop 3: Dyna Comp, Zelzah Loop 4: Dyna Comp, BOSS MD-200 (using the tremolo effect) Loop 5: Dyna Comp, 2x BOSS DD-20s Loop 6: Dyna Comp, 63' Fender Reverb
Kita has a few additional pedals on the board for solely live purpose, such as the Electro Harmonix Freeze, which can hold a note for a sustained amount of time. He also has a separate BOSS footswitch to tap in a count for his delay sound.
While this may all seem complicated (and it is) many of the pedals are to recreate certain sounds from each of the band's 10 albums, or to allow Kita to experiment during live performances.
You do not need to build a pedalboard this big to sound like Kita. Instead, I would focus on Kita's main pedals, which are the dyna comp, a phase effect, a wah and a delay.

Sound Like Kita...On a Budget

Kita, Quarter Century tour, 2022
To buy Kita's current rig would cost thousands of pounds (the 59' Les Paul alone could be worth £5,000) so much like the Gotch's post we have a few more affordable options that could get you close. The idea is to create a rig that can be used at home or in small venues to perform live, and not to emulate the albums.
Please also note that these are personal suggestions as a fan and if you alternatives find that works better for you, then great!
The main areas to consider are:
  • A 50's inspired Les Paul
  • A Boutique Marshall style amp
  • A compressor pedal
  • A Delay pedal and Multi-effect pedals
GUITAR
In terms of guitar options there are plenty of Les Paul copies, but for look and sound Epiphone is a no-brainer. The Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard is the newer, more expensive option but is based on the 59' Les Paul model, much like Kita's main guitar. You can buy one for around £749.
Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard
The more affordable option is the Epiphone Les Paul Standard '50s, which is also a solid pick and goes for around £500. Both guitars should also be easy to modify should you wish to go in that direction.
AMPLIFIER
In terms of affordable amps, Bogner have recently released the Ecstasy Mini 30W Head which costs around £349. You would need a cabinet, but this solid-state amp should get you close to Kita's live sound and can work for live shows.
Bogner Ecstasy Mini 30W Head
You could also try out the Marshall MG50 and Marshall Origin amps as affordable Marshall amps with a classic sound, closer to the JCM900/Bogner style.
Outside of the Marshall and Bogner options, you could try out Bogner Ecstasy pedals, which are designed to emulate the Bogner Ecstasy channels. Please bear in mind that because you would be running these into a amp that there would be more tweaking required with the settings, but you could have a clean amp and then use the pedal for a heavy tone.
The BOSS Katana series and Blackstar amps both have British style drive channels, but would require more tweaking or pedals to help.
PEDALS
There are a wide variety of pedals to choose from, but things simple we will stick with the basic. Because of its importance to Kita's sound, I would highly recommend the MXR Super Comp. A great example of how this would sound can be on tako wasa YouTube channel, who demonstrated the pedal on this live stream. (tako also has a solid pedal board that is worth taking inspiration from!)
MXR Super Comp
An alternative approach would be to buy a Booster pedal to create the same effect, such as the Xotic EP-3 Boost
A delay pedal is also must for a sound like Kita rig (Especially those keen to play the Re:Re: 2016 intro) and Both the BOSS DD-6 & BOSS DD-8 are affordable options that can definitely do the job, while the DD-200 gives you a more versatile option and the ability to save pre-sets for different tracks.
Boss DD-8
Cheaper alternatives that you could also consider are the Tone City Tape Machine and the TC Electronic Flashback 2 Mini, which are both good options for the price.
The wah pedal is also worth looking and the Vox 845 Wah Pedal would be my shout. At £69 its considerably cheaper than the Dunlop 535Q Crybaby (which is Kita's main wah) and should be okay for Kita's wah sound.
Finally, we are going to focus on the modulation sounds for Kita, and ultimately this is down to preference and what songs you would like to emulate. The BOSS MD-200, which Kita uses, is versatile and should cover most of effects you'll use
BOSS MD-200
For more specific pedals, the BOSS PH-3 Phase Shifter will get you close to his original phase sound, while the BOSS Harmonist is Kita's octave pedal of choice for solos.
You could also consider an ambient reverb pedal if you want to capture some of the ambient sounds Kita creates live, but is not strictly need for playing the band's songs.
AMP SIMULATOR PEDAL OPTIONS?
The final option to consider would be a Amp Simulator pedal. This type of pedal has become increasingly popular in the last few years and would be used in place of a traditional amp and effect pedals. You would then use the Amp Simulator with a IR Cabinet (a powered cabinet speaker) or with a Power Amp in between the Amp Simulator and a traditional cabinet.
They can be fairly expensive to buy and I would only advise buying one if you do intend to move on from your traditional amp/pedal setup, however the Quad Cortex DSP & Headrush Pedalboard would be good starting points. They are both aimed at capturing more traditionally hi gain amps such as the Bogner and Marshall amps, so should be able to do a good job at capturing Kita's sound.

Recommended Amp Settings

The following amp settings were based on photos from live performances and you should bear in mind that the volume may be quite loud for home use, so I would suggest bringing it down. Also bear in mind that every musician and amp will slightly differ so you may need to tweak with your settings to find the right blend.
My personal advice is to keep the gain around the middle and to use the volume to crunch up the sound. Kita does use a cabinet, so you may need to add more low end for a combo amp, and again bear in mind that the volume may need to be lower for home use.
Shino Luck V6:
Vol: 5, Treble: 5, Middle: 5, Bass: 3.5, Master: 3.5, Boost: 7, Level: 4
Bogner Green Setting:
Presence A: 8.5, Presence B: 8, Vol. 1: 5, Treble: 4:5, Mid: 4, Gain 1: 5.5
Bogner Blue Setting:
Vol. 2: 5.5, Vol. 3: 5.5, Treble: 5, Middle: 5/5.5, Bass: 5, Gain 2: 4.5, Gain 3: 5.5

Conclusion

Thank you again for reading this and I hope it's been insightful for you. Feel free to leave feedback below and any of your own tips

Kaldena’s Talent is Shadowing (If Kaldena attacks a broken enemy, they’ll be blinded for 1 turn after the break) and you can’t change the time willingly. The endgame isn’t locked on night mode. The moves are changed based on the new characters’ personalities. Chapter 1s will not be stoppable, but their intros will. Concoction elements will all be rarer and get stronger with Trousseau’s level. The ‘In Pursuit’ themes will be called “Doing Battle For”. The boss themes are called “Turning Point”. The FTD/Journey End themes are called “At Any Cost” and “___ Shall Be Received”. All characters, including Dolcinaea will have a Shall Be Received theme. Enemy weapons and elements will matter more. No matter what the time is, boss backgrounds will always each only have 1 look. Chapter 4 bosses will slowly level up to keep them dangerous, and both phases will always be in a single battle. The single-target elemental attacks will hit multiple times with boost. The main character will be able to leave the party at any time. The maximum amount of beasts at one time will be lowered to three. Status effects will be effective on bosses. Terror on enemies will prevent them from using boosted moves, which regular enemies will have. In order to get BOTH EX skills for a character, you must find a shrine and fight the patron god.
Stories:
Petrichor is a Beastling who realizes that the way of life for them is slowly turning more greedy, and the forest life is suffering because of it. Because of her speaking out, Petrichor is challenged by Master Juvah and ultimately has to leave the island. She meets up with another exile, Cohazeh, who originally attacks but ultimately decides they should work together. Cohazeh suggests that Petrichor go capture Cateracta and bring it back to the island, so she does. By the time Petrichor returns, Master Juvah is dead and the new warden is Ochette, who’s even more gluttonous and dangerous to the forest life. Ochette is also armed with Akala and Mahina, as well as Tera and Glacis.
Trousseau is a member of Eir’s Apothecaries who hears of a large bird biting people and getting them sick to a deadly virus. Trousseau is told to go alone to fight it. When he does and returns back, the rest of Eir’s Apothecaries are gone. They had abandoned him for being the least experienced and having the highest failure rate. Trousseau pursues after them to try and ask for forgiveness, but both times he catches up, Chief Castti gets someone to hold him off, abandoning that member in the process. Ultimately, Castti believes that only she is qualified enough to bear the Eir’s Apothecaries name. Trousseau has to knock some sense into her.
Claude starts his journey as a babysitter for hire, and he’s in charge of caring for a little girl named Throné when she gets kidnapped through time and space by ‘Mother’. While under Mother’s hostile custody, Throné grows up and decides she needs to get revenge on the world. Due to the time manipulation, Claude and Throné’s parents find her a few hours after the kidnapping and free her from Mother, but by that point she’s already set on developing a crime organization. Claude finds the first part of the Blacksnakes being run by the third-in-command Scaracci. They fight and Scaracci is killed. Then Claude finds the new third-in-command, Donnie, training a giant panther to raid a nearby town. Donnie escapes, but Claude kills the panther. Finally, Claude reaches the main base, with Donnie and second-in-command Pirro, and of course Throné. Throné is the only one fought during the battle, as her parents take out the underlings.
Harvey and Osvald start off hypothesizing the 7th source when Osvald suggests it’s the power of love. Harvey reminds him of Gratton’s Warning: “Magic from emotion, if possible, would doom everything.” Osvald doesn’t listen and tries to use his love for his wife and daughter to summon a massive elemental. The result is a house-fire hybrid that kills Osvald’s wife. Harvey stops the house elemental, but gets Osvald sent to prison. He escapes and tries to experiment with Elena to unlock the 7th source. While Lady Clarissa distracts Harvey, Osvald ends up producing a love elemental that would have destroyed the world if Harvey hadn’t arrived in time. Harvey chases Osvald to a dead end where he destroys Osvald’s staff and talks him into giving up on the 7th source because it’s too dangerous.
Roque is a businessman who starts working with Papp and Partitio in the silver mines. Partitio hears word of the steam engine and abandons all his workers and family. Joe holds out hope that Partitio will return, so Roque has to break through his denial. Out of revenge, Roque confronts the engineer Floyd and desecrates the factory. Then he attacks the Delsta Times led by Ori. After he realizes what he’s actually doing, Roque has some serious reflection on who he is and what he stood for. He decides to try and talk Partitio back into working with the people he abandoned. Partitio doesn’t believe those people deserved his help and attacks Roque with a steam-powered suit before finally listening to reason.
Dolcinaea starts being taught by Cuani, Agnea’s mother, the art of dance magic. After being given the final test, Dolcinaea was tasked with finding Agnea and bringing her back in exchange for a chance to perform at the Grand Gala. Dolcinaea goes to perform and ends up battling Hermes in the Festival of Grace when she sees a glimpse of Agnea in the crowd. When Dolcinaea pursues Agnea, Gus and Laila show up to fight for seemingly no reason. It’s only after the battle that Dolcinaea learns Agnea has perfected the most difficult dance magic, mind control. Dolcinaea then finally catches up to Agnea, who summons Gus and Pala along with fighting in person, but Agnea is beaten and taken back to her mother.
Kaldena is a cleric who serves the Flame when it feels like the gods are listening less to prayer. Kaldena decides to investigate along with Cubaryi. Together, they find Mindt and she gives a cryptic speech about the Dawn, an organization who devotes their lives to pray to the Gods and have their prayers answered for more power. Mindt tries to kill them, but Kaldena and Cubaryi fight back and pressure Mindt into telling where the rest of the Dawn is. Kaldena leaves in order to bring each member to justice, starting with Reiza who ends up feeling remorse. While being arrested, Reiza gives away the location of the last altar. As Kaldena approaches, the Dawn member Crick runs out to guard the place. During the battle, Crick prays to Brand the Thunderblade, increasing his power but not enough. As Crick dies, he reveals that the main leader of the Dawn is Temenos the inquisitor. Temenos and Mindt have retreated to a secondary altar and are ‘guiding’ even more people to pray to the gods for the Dawn. Temenos, sensing Kaldena’s approach, prays to all the gods at once and becomes immensely powerful for the final confrontation.
Mugen is the brother of Hikari who’s always wearing armor due to assassination attempts. Mugen is angry because Hikari, as king, is focused only on industrializing and not what people actually want or need. Things escalate further when Hikari industrializes a village, killing Yomi’s sister and making her want revenge. Yomi goes after Mugen despite him not being involved in the attack. Mugen decides the best thing to do is make sure Hikari can’t enforce his new industry policies, so he goes to defeat the Auðnvarg keeping a town subjugated in addition to assassinating the strategist Kazan the day before a major battle for territory, turning the resulting battle into a defeat. When Mugen finally heads back to Ku’s throne room, clashes with Hikari, who uses the rapid developments in military to wield two incredibly powerful shapeshifting weapons.
During the endgame, Temenos organizes the other seven antagonists into the New Dawn. Tanzy, brainwashed by Agnea, helps the New Dawn stall for time while she fights the protagonists. By the time Tanzy is killed, the New Dawn has found a leak of arcane energy and uses it to transform into a god. Unfortunately, the form isn’t a god, but a grotesque shape of body parts while the New Dawn suffers and begs for death from the protagonists.

2024.03.30 19:57 ByMyDecree Reviewing and Ranking Every Path: Ochette

Tier List: https://imgur.com/a/GroUYMX
Ochette's first chapter starts with us choosing an animal companion: the jackal or the owl. I went with the jackal, Akala, though honestly I'd say Linde from Octopath 1 had more personality than this companion, so I'm left wondering if perhaps I should have gone with the owl. We get a flash-forward to the future, where Ochette is hunting a giant iguana beast it feels like we should be about fifty levels too low to fight: pretty fun and exciting way to get the ball rolling. Ochette returns to the beastling village only to find that the humans from the neighboring human village are threatening to steal the beastlings' land. Ochette runs them off and goes to speak to the lion with the very cool design who totally should've been a secret optional boss, Master Juvah. He tells Ochette she'll be his successor. The humans, led by Cohazeh, show up trying to bribe the beastlings with meat to go save a missing child. Ochette goes traipsing into some dangerous ruins the humans are too cowardly to go to and brings the kid back, only to find the village under attack from a freakish shadow beast with a design way too cool for a Chapter 1 boss. The humans thank Ochette and say they'll let go of the land dispute for the time being, the bastards, and Juvah tells Ochette she needs to collect three sacred beasts as part of a prophecy to deal with the Night of the Scarlet Moon. Okay. Decent first chapter, not the game's best by any stretch, but not bad.
From here, instead of getting a proper Chapter 2, 3, and 4, we get three branching Chapter 2's. And this is ultimately what kills this path for me. We have the first chapter providing clear setup for where this story is going to come to a head in the final chapter. But instead of building up to that final chapter with an escalating series of events, we're just going to have three disconnected and self-contained little adventures as we wait to get to the Night of the Scarlet Moon.
Cataracta's Path? Ochette hears a noise. She investigates, but a human attempts to run her off. After beating up the human, Ochette finds a leviathan's remains. The human returns and informs them these are the remains of Cataracta, the legendary beast they were searching for. She says humans, specifically someone called the Dark Hunter, killed Cataracta with their greed and entrusts Cataracta's newly-hatched offspring, Acta, to them. That's it. Okay.
Ochette shows up to Crackridge, where Tera slumbers. The villagers don't want to help her speak to him and are evidently scared of Tera. Ochette meats a hungry boi whose predominant character trait is being fat. Fat Man requests a specific kind of meat, which Ochette gives to him, and so he leads her to Tera in turn while announcing his intent to become a hunter. Ochette wakes up Tera, who is pissed at having been awoken from his slumber. You then fight Tera who has a really cool sprite. Once you've calmed him down, he agrees to come with you, so now the villagers don't have to fear him anymore. Fat Man decides he's not cut out for hunting and decides to become a rancher so he can eat all the cow meat he likes. Okay then.
Ochette shows up to Stormhail, with a nearby mountain peak beset by constant blizzards. She makes her way up the mountain and lets out a loud yell that causes an avalanche. A hunter shows up in response to the noise and tells Ochette to fuck off. Ochette catches up with Hunter and finds him near a dead body. Hunter informs her his hunting party had come to kill Glacis, spurred on by some Dark Hunter, and that he wants revenge for their deaths. Ochette reaches the peak alongside Hunter. Glacis is pissed because the hunting party broke her eggs. Ochette beats the shit out of Glacis to calm her down, captures Glacis, and helps Hunter make it back down the mountain and to his cabin, where he forsakes his revenge-seeking ways. Okay then.
Ochette returns to the island, where the beastlings have prepared for the Night of the Scarlet Moon. Cohazeh and the humans show up to announce their intention to steal land again. Juvah warns them to prepare for what's coming and tells them to fuck off, which they do(the fucking off part, not the preparing part). The Scarlet Moon occurs, prompting several battles against previously encountered enemies, now with shadowy purple coloring. The humans return and complain that the beastlings did not sufficiently warn them of this before resolving to fight alongside the beastlings so as to not owe them anything. Ochette makes her way across the island, being helped by Tera and Glacis along the way; these sequences are pretty cool, I dig that the layout of the island is actually being changed by them. Ochette arrives at the beast and finds the source of this commotion seems to be a haggard, shadowy version of the animal companion that she had passed up in the intro. The companion knocks Ochette and her companion into the ocean, a blue light comes outta nowhere to save them, and they beat the shit out of the animal companion. Ochette feels remorseful at having to kill the creature, and feeds it jerky to at least give it a good death. The creature perishes, presumably finding peace in the next world. Cohazeh and the humans decide that they should live in peaceful co-existence with the beastlings and the islanders all rejoice. Ochette sets off on a new adventure. The End.
Okay, so I've got my fair share of issues with this path. The biggest one, like I mentioned before, is the fact that the path only has three chapters. Sure, it functionally has five; the varying recommended levels for the chapters virtually guarantees that you'll do it in the order of Acta, then Tera, then Glacis, making them Chapters 2, 3, and 4 respectively from a gameplay perspective. But from a storytelling perspective there's no actual plot development occurring between them. They're all just the same beat of Ochette following her nose to some place with humans, learning that humans are flawed but not all bad, and recruiting the legendary animal she came to find. That's the plot of Chapter 2. And it happens three different times. The characters and settings might vary, but none of them are particularly memorable. The overarching story of the path is just spinning its wheels in the mud as Ochette collects the needed macguffins, and so it's appropriate that they're all just labeled Chapter 2. And that's unfortunate. I can commend Octopath 2 for being more experimental with its path structure and not confining everything to a rigid four-chapter format, but I think that experiment failed as far as this particular path is concerned.
Initially, I didn't like Ochette. Not a fan of the catgirl thing. Not a fan of having a 20-year-old who looks and sounds and acts like a child. And her predominant character traits are being simplistic and meat-obsessed, which didn't speak well to her ability to be an engaging protagonist. But she managed to grow on me over the course of the game. Sure she's simple-minded and animalistic, but the way that's contrasted with human characters and occasionally used to highlight how ridiculous and self-defeating human beings are... that's good stuff. She even had something of a character arc with the whole "Didn't you say 'The weak are meat for the strong to eat?" bit. I'd say that Ochette was a better protagonist than Hikari and Partitio were, at least. I just wish she had a better story to be the protagonist of. I think the parts of this path's story that had the most life were the bits about humanity being greedy blowhards who don't respect the balance of nature. I wish the storyline were fully about that, and not some doomsday prophecy. I would have preferred the story to be about Ochette exploring the world, being exposed to the worst aspects of humanity, the insane actions that really separate people from beasts, and exposing our irrationality. Perhaps ending in a return to Toto'haha where the human village has resolved to steal the land again despite what the beastings have done for them, culminating in a boss fight against Cohazeh. The humans only finally learning to live with nature after being forced to learn their lesson. You could have even retained the twist with the animal companion as the final boss, maybe write it so that the humans captured it and trained it to do their bidding. As-is it feels like the conflict gets resolved a little too easily; the humans never even really learned how to live with their ample quantity of land like Juvah suggested, it seems like they just got their wish of land expansion by not arbitrarily segregating themselves from the beastlings.
I also feel like for as much emphasis is put on the choice of animal companion, it ends up being fairly shallow? I chose Akala, and he's not got much personality or character. It's pretty clear he's just there for Ochette to have someone to bounce dialogue off of. There's little to no exploration of his character or the relationship between him and Ochette, which I imagine is in large part because he has to be totally interchangeable with the other choice of companion. And as cool as the idea of having the one you don't choose becoming the final boss is, there's still very little depth there. I assume endgame content will elaborate more on the nature of the Night of the Scarlet Moon and the shadowy aura possessing the creature, but taking Ochette's path for what it is, I have very little idea of what's going on here. Is the beast motivated in part by some angst over being rejected by Ochette, or is this purely demonic possession? I have no idea, the story doesn't give any indication. Based on the lack of characterization of the creature, I'm inclined to lean towards the latter, and like with Mugen, I have to say that a demonically possessed husk of a pre-established character is not the most satisfying way to handle a final encounter. I'd say Redeye from H'aanit's route in the original game was a far more satisfying opponent. At least it got tons of buildup and a considerable body count under its belt to raise the stakes.
Anyway, I do unfortunately feel that this path belongs in D Tier. There's just not enough story in this story, and when we do get to the actual meat of the story it's pretty unsatisfying. They had a good idea with the conflict between the beastlings and the humans, they just fucked up by relegating it to being a little side plot that hamfistedly gets resolved through the power of friendship rather than being the central conflict of the story.

2024.03.13 22:17 Kash_Smith I'm starting to take fight script commissions for the first time. Starting small with 3 slots. Details and examples in the description (PLEASE READ).

I am just now taking commissions for fight scripts. I have never taken commissions before in my life, so please bare with me. I am primarily using cashapp for payments. I HAVE a PayPal, but haven't used it in forever and might not be able to access it anymore. Details on the prices and scripts below.
Formatting:
I will write all scripts double spaced with a 12-15 point font depending on your preferred reading size. They will be written in a script format with stage directions like it's a real script.
Contents:
I am NOT a powerscaler. I don't know how powerful these characters are and I don't know the math. The most feats and sailing I'll use is looking at a respect thread, if one exists. You may provide me any other necessary information. If I'm unfamiliar with the character, I'll read their wiki and look at some footage to understand their personality. You may choose the winner or have me surprise you (if I surprise you, it might not be who "should" win). I also don't use foul language, but I'll still make the dialogue as in character as I can.
PRICES:
Just the fight - $25 USD
Fight with outro from Wiz and Boomstick - $25 USD
Intro for each character, fight, and outro - $35 USD
Battle royales with four characters - Add $10 USD to each previous listing. Add $5 USD for each additional character for battles with more than four characters (starting from character #5).
Notes:
Prices are subject to change in the future. This is the first time I'm doing this so I'm just trying to see what works and what doesn't. For length of scripts, see the examples below for an average of what to expect. DM me for the commissions and it's first come, first serve. Expect each script to maybe take a week to two weeks (I have a fulltime job, I'm working on 2 books, and writing lore for a content creator), and I'll let you know when I'm starting on yours and when it's done. You'll pay when it's done before I send it to you.
BANNED CHARACTERS:
I'm currently watching "The Owl House" and don't want to be any more spoiled than I already am. No hentai/porn/eroge/ecchi characters (just no). No streamers or YouTubers because using real people just gets dicey (exception for Nostalgia Critic and AVGN). No current religious figures. No real serial killers.
Examples of scripts I've made for others in chronological order for reference to my improvement over time (meant to be read in print layout in google docs):
Gengar vs. Slimer https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Q4_2ZaShkmMbSez_W3ogL_jJG92O9bdLjnRX7yuQaVc/edit?usp=drivesdk
MUGEN Ronald vs. Weegee https://docs.google.com/document/d/19MgMu03K275nbrXrw4P-Er45oTdH8O4L3bFd2sA9c-o/edit?usp=drivesdk
Majin Buu vs. The Collector https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Fcr9WM84YjM2aWJBN4eyh1oPW-zwCRhJG6YXob8w0bk/edit?usp=drivesdk
We can talk about you MU's and preferred characters in the DMs. Thank you.

2024.02.20 19:48 Godofhammrs My Arc Ranking

  1. Infinity Castle Arc. This Arc has so many amazing fights, backstories, and emotions.
  2. Entertainment District Arc. This Arc is fire with tanjiro an friends vs upper rank 6. Especially in the anime.
  3. Mugen Train Arc. Rendonut.
4.Sunrise Countdown Arc. Demon slayers defeating muzan was amazing. DK tanjiro was insane.
  1. Mount Natagumo Arc. A bit overrated but I still love it. Hinokami was arguably the best moment in the whole series besides muzans defeat.
  2. Final Selection Arc. So Underrated. Such a hooking and great start to kny.
  3. Swordsmith Village Arc. Ds' vs hantengu was fire. Good Arc just not as good as top 6.
  4. Tsuzumi Mansion Arc. Inosuke and zenitsu join tanjiro and I love their introductions. Zenitsus sleeping technique was so cool.
  5. Hashira Training Arc. Cool to see how the hashiras Train ig. Also we get to see more about the rest of the hashiras.
  6. Asakusa Arc. Ball demon and arrow demon are a bit forgettable but gave an OK fight. but what makes this arc good is muzans intro, it gives me chills every time I read.
  7. Rehabilitation Arc. Underwhelming but better than I expected.
  8. Kidnappers Bog Arc. Forgettable and Mid. Not much story to it and the fight was boring. But there were some good moments Ig.

2024.02.08 01:00 waffle_conisour New Fighting Game

I am currently working on a new, ultra accessible game called Saikyo!
It is supposed to teach beginners in the genre fundamentals like spaceing, punishes, safe/unsafe moves, etc. However, long combos and other advanced tech to ensure fun for more experienced players.
The game will be simple, as to act as an intro/early stepping stone for beginners. It only contains 8 characters, with few being super unique, only 1 being a grappler and 1 a zoner. This, it will lack things like technicals on knockdown, advanced meters, motion inputs, etc., being focused on movement with a few strong specials, akin to Smash.
I hope to draw in the attention of not just beginners, but people of all skill levels with the games retro charm, but the lack of advanced tech may be a turnoff for some. (It will be made using MUGEN for those wondering.)
What do you guys think of this?

2023.12.30 13:54 Hipnosis183 List of gacha games that ended service in 2023

Update: Thanks for your suggestions. Besides the missing games, the following things were added: * Start of service date, plus the total length of the service in years * Specified the regions that ended service, now it's reflected in the store links * Revised and normalized some of the game names * Other small changes
Throughout the year, I've been making a list of gacha games that ended service/shut down, with the objective of preserving history, while also demonstrating how stupidly short the services of gacha games are becoming these days.
While this list is very complete, it's definitively missing some games, as I only included games that were of my interest. Let me know what it's missing to update the list.
There's the chance some of these games are not gachas, but ended service anyways. There are also some duplicates, if the same game ended service in different regions, so take the total number of games with a grain of salt.

2023.12.26 23:15 Dubbeltje_ PC randomly turns off. Eliminated some causes, but need help to find out what is wrong.

Symptom: The PC turns off. Followed by what seems to be a power on, but it's only the LEDs and the fans (at full speed) that start.
"Recovery": Pressing power button for about 5 seconds, or turning power off and on power completely, followed by a power on.
Current thoughts: Power Supply or Motherboard is broken
Main question: What can I do with monitoring tools or other methods of debugging to verify which piece of my system is causing the failures?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Intro

Issue started occurring about a week ago, and was limited to pretty much once a day, when under heavy load of games being played.
Since then I've been debugging the problem, but I am stuck on the finding the root cause.
Early on I did find one interesting method with which to trigger it with about 50% chance: Plug in a phone to charge via the USB-cable. It will sometimes crash right away when I do that, sometimes nothing happens, but without fail it'll always crash shortly after doing this.
This is not the only cause though. It will crash plenty of times without any USB-device plugged in at all (except for mouse and keyboard).
Up until yesterday I pretty much always had to generate some type of "reasonable to heavy load" to experience a crash. Either by running a game or a variety of stresstest (I looked at Prime95 and MSI Kombustor).
Since yesterday the issue keeps occurring more and more. And since a few hours, already a few minutes after logging in and just working in excel or browsing the internet.

Eliminations -- Or so I hope

I unplugged / removed / replaced a lot of parts that I could replace, to rule them out
Temperatures
Using HardwareInfo I verified and tracked temperatures during usage and just shortly before the moments of crashes. In the early stages I thought this was the cause, as the issue only occurred during heavy load, but it turned out that even at those times the temperatures of any of the components were well within limits.

My thoughts and the advice I am looking for

My system

Case: Sharkoon T3-V
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X, ATX, 4xDDR4
PSU: Cooler Master MWE Gold 650 Full Modular
CPU: Intel Core i5-9600K, 3.7GHz / 4.6GHz, 9MB, S1151
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070, 8GB, Gaming OC White

2023.11.11 15:14 Cheemingwan1234 Sailor Neptune Mortal Kombat 1 concept.

Sailor Neptune Mortal Kombat 1 concept.
One for Sailor Neptune from Sailor Moon in Mortal Kombat 1 as a guest Kombatant
(Yes, Sailor Uranus is a Kameo Fighter in my concept. Pair her up with Sailor Neptune, or if you want to make Sailor Neptune jealous, pair her up with Johnny Cage or Kung Lao…..)
Mortal Kombat 1 Kombatant Profile: Michiru Nerissa Kaioh/Sailor Neptune.

https://preview.redd.it/r2px3epf8qzb1.png?width=366&format=png&auto=webp&s=a06e6f2dc805150c86bc3d3f57af978474dc6250
Note, her face model is based off Sayaka Fujioka, her Sera Myu actress with Lauren Landa (her Viz dub voice actress) doing her English voice lines. Aside for her Lip Rod being holstered on her right side of her waist, her default appearance is the same as her first costume in Sailor Moon.
Bio:
The Soldier of Embrace, Sailor Neptune was one of the guardians of the outer Solar System during the era of the Silver Millennium, guarding the perimeters of the Moon Kingdom from outside threats together with her lover; Sailor Uranus . When the Silver Millennium fell, she was drawn to the destruction with the other Outer Senshi, where their Talismans (in Neptune’s case, the Deep Aqua Mirror) resonated to summon the Soldier of Death and Rebirth; Sailor Saturn to destroy all so that it can be reborn in the modern day.
Reincarnated into the present as Michiru Nerissa Kaioh, she was born into a wealthy background and had an uneventful life save for some mysterious dreams of a past life. Eventually, she awakened her abilities as Sailor Neptune and left her family, eventually meeting up with Sailor Uranus and clashing with Sailor Moon’s group. She later became the adoptive parent of Hotaru Tomoe/Sailor Saturn after her rebirth from defeating Pharoah 90, acting as her mother figure alongside her lover; Haruka and Setsuna Meioh/Sailor Pluto.
Now in the New Era of Liu Kang, Michiru must fight to protect her lover and her adoptive daughter from the machinations of Shang Tsung’s and Quan Chi’s Titan counterparts, who seek to destroy this timeline out of spite.

Throw: Submerge Punt:
Sailor Neptune submerges the opponent from the waist down by opening a water portal under their feet, teleports behind the immobilized opponent and then kicks them in their head to send them sprawling on the ground.

Special Moves:
Deep Submerge: Sailor Neptune sends a energy blast towards the opponent using her Deep Aqua Mirror.
Neptune Slide: Sailor Neptune slides towards the opponent belly down, if it connects, Sailor Neptune grabs her opponent by the feet and kicks her opponent in the head by bringing her own feet over.
Submarine Reflection: Sailor Neptune pulls out her Deep Aqua Mirror to reflect a ranged attack.
Tidal Wave: Sailor Neptune summons a tidal wave beneath her opponent’s feet to juggle her opponent.
Coral Spike: Sailor Neptune throws a coral spike into her opponent.
Blue Strike: Sailor Neptune smashes the opponent in the head with a coral club (technically a macahuitl), stunning her opponent.
Fatal Blow: Dark Embrace:
Sailor Neptune starts her Fatal Blow by pulling out her Deep Aqua Mirror and creating a tidal wave that staggers her opponent, allowing her Kameo an opening to execute their Fatal Blow. Once her Kameo is done, Sailor Neptune charges in, grabs her opponent and slams her opponent face down to the ground, and then bashes her opponent’s head repeatedly against the ground until her opponent’s skull breaks.
Fatalities:
Fatality 1: Deep Swirlie:
Sailor Neptune pulls out her Deep Aqua Mirror and uses it to create a water portal that she then forces the opponent’s head into. While inside the portal, the opponent’s face is bitten off by anglerfishes and then crushed by underwater pressure. She then pulls the opponent’s head (what could charitably be called a head) out from the portal and tosses the opponent’s corpse to the ground.
Fatality 2: Splitting Uppercut:
Sailor Neptune punches the opponent into the air with an uppercut, then creates high pressure water streams from her hands to slice the opponent in three at the waist and head. The opponent’s remains then stack together as they land, before falling apart.
Kameo Fatality Win Pose:

Brutalities: (excluding Submarine Reflection reflected Brutalities)
  1. The Klassic: Sailor Neptune punches the opponent’s head off with an uppercut.
  2. Soccer Goal: Sailor Neptune executes her throw, only to kick her opponent’s head off with the final blow.
  3. Killer Heels: Sailor Neptune executes her Neptune Slide move, only to stab out her opponent’s eyes with her heels.
  4. Pressure Wash: Sailor Neptune summons a tidal wave to erode the opponent’s legs while also juggling the opponent, causing the now-legless opponent to attempt to crawl away before bleeding out.
  5. Drowning: Sailor Neptune sends out a water bubble that forces itself on the opponent’s head, causing the opponent to drown.
  6. Coral Sawing: Sailor Neptune creates a coral club that she uses to saw the opponent in half, vertically.
Brutality Win Pose.
Sailor Neptune pulls out her Deep Aqua Mirror and looks at her reflection.
Brutality/Round Win Lines:
“In the name of Neptune, be punished!”
“Damn, I’m good!”
“Embrace your death!”
“Well, are you impressed?”
“Who says that the Guardian of Embrace can’t fight?”
“Likewise, I act with grace!”
“Guardian of Embrace, Sailor Neptune!”
“Drown in the darkness, Shang Tsung!” (Against Shang Tsung)
“What do you expect, vampire?” (Against Nitara)

Sample Interaction Dialogue (with Omni-Man, herself in a mirror match, Shang Tsung, Reiko, Liu Kang, Havik, Tanya, Johnny Cage, Sub-Zero, Sindel, Geras and Raiden)
“Why do you fight to protect Hotaru? She’s just a ‘pet’ of yours.”
“She’s the Guardian of Ruin, and your doom if you persist.”

“If you’re not me, then who are you?”
“I am Esmeraude of the Black Moon Clan, fool!”

“Even the Deep Aqua Mirror has difficulty with your lies!”
“Is that a roundabout way of saying I can’t be trusted?”

“Kung Lao had a razor brimmed hat, but you have a mirror?”
“A mirror that can command the deep seas, Reiko…”

“So, in another timeline, I was a cousin of Haruka?”
“That timeline was a truly unique one….”

“Hand Hotaru over to me!”
“For that, your punishment will be your death!”

“Why did you choose not to admit your love to Mileena?”
“The Umgadi forbid it, Michiru.”

“Michiru is a mouthful. Can I call you ‘Michy’?”
“Only if you best me in Kombat, Cage.”

“Stay away from Hotaru…”
“Her power is a threat to my plans!”

“I have need of someone with similar abilities to Rain…”
“Thanks for your interest, but you should go look for someone else.”

“Why did you not prevent the fall of the Silver Millennium?”
“Some threads need to be cut to weave time, Michiru.”

“So, did you write back to your family after you’ve became a Senshi?”
“I will, once I have enough time.”
Tower Ending
(Shot of Sailor Neptune returning from the Battle of Armageddon to be greeted by her fellow Sailor Senshi)
“Titan Shang Tsung and his partner threatened to destabilize the timeline and with it, the safety of the Realms. We defeated him in the Battle of Armageddon and I’ve returned to Earthrealm to be with my family.”
(Shot of Sailor Neptune being briefed by Liu Kang and Geras together with the rest of the Outer Senshi about other threats to the timeline)
“But I know that peace and quiet would only be a respite. New threats have appeared with the aftermath of the Battle for Armageddon. Armageddon weakened the barriers between realities, allowing for malevolent entities to invade the New Era.”
(Shot of Sailor Neptune together with the other Sailor Senshi looking at the sky together with Kung Lao, Johnny Cage and Raiden that pans to show them fighting the Shadow Galactica)
“Worse, Sailor Galaxia; the leader of the Shadow Galactica has picked up on the carnage of the Battle of Armageddon and has sent out a team to kill the champions of Earthrealm and harvest the Star Seeds of the Sailor Senshi. Good thing that our experiences in the Battle of Armageddon would be enough to stand up to her.”

2023.10.02 12:21 la_cintrus I had a weird dream this night.

I had a weird dream this night.
Since it involves Touhou characters, I thought it worth the mentioning.
I had a dream this night.
The dream starts from me playing Portal 2, them my grandpa calls me so I could help him with his tablet (I'm kinda a tech guy in my family). He said that he needs help plugging the controller to his tablet. After some effort, I managed to connect the Xbox 360 controller to his Lenovo tablet through USB port (???). I opened the game on his tablet to test if it works well. The game was a some kind of a ground fighter, but with a lot of characters on it (from different franchses, kinda like mugen). I skipped the intro and pressed 'play'. A character selection menu has popped up and then it gets interesting. The first character of the roster was Sakuya, but she looked quite odd. She was drawn like from Cartoon network. As I looked through the list, I saw others, like Reimu, Marisa, Tewi, Sanae (who was called Patchouli for some reason) and so on. The odd thing was that they were drawn very "western-like" (if that comparison with cartoon network passes). They were not looking bad, just weird.
It's the closest one that fits the description (couldn't find the author, found on 2hujerk)
Then I pressed "Against CPU", and unfortunately the dream cuts off and I woke up in a middle of the night.
Now I have several questions:
  1. Is there any ground fighters, that involves Touhou characters, except the official ones and mugen?
  2. WTF was that dream and why it cut off? It was actually good :(
  3. Could this dream actually mean something?

(how I felt after waking up lol)

2023.08.01 21:20 JerryCarrots2 What would’ve happened if Muzan never killed the Lower Ranks

If Muzan never killed the rest of the Lower Ranks, this would change drastically. First off, if we’re going to assume that Tanjiro slowly progresses through the 12 Kizuki, we’ll have to pretend that Tanjiro was never told by Shinobu that Rengoku could know something about Hinokami Kagura. This means the Mugen Train arc wouldn’t exist. Since Tanjiro would need to progress thought the Kizuki, he can’t fight LM6. So he’d probably fight LM4.
Tanjiro’s next mission would be somewhere else, tasked to go with Zenitsu and Kanao. They would have the mission of defeating LM4, but they’re not aware that they will even be fighting an LM in the first place. After around 2-3 episodes of the battle, along with an extra intro episode to a new season making this a 4 episode arc. Now, Donut Maker hasn’t arrived yet. Considering the fact that Tanjiro was able to nearly defeat LM5 by himself, and got a really good amount of training after, fighting LM4 would be a surprisingly easy battle because now he’s having help from 3 others (Nezuko is with them too, don’t forget about her), meaning that they’re not going to have many injuries. This is the point where Akaza arrives and immediately heads for Tanjiro, but Kanao manages to save him by pushing him thanks to her high speed.
An immensely hard battle happens between the the 5 of them but Akaza is hardly putting any effort into the battle at all. Hashiras are warned of the encounter with UP3, and rush to them to help. Shinobu and Tengen are the first to arrive, and take over the battle as they tell Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Kanao to take rest. Rengoku and Giyu arrive right after, and now Akaza has to put a little more effort into the battle as he’s fighting 4 hashiras at once. Mitsuri and Obanai Arrive and Akaza struggles to keep up with everyone and the sun starts rising. He starts to flee because he doesn’t want to die, but all of them make sure that he won’t escape no matter what. Akaza dies from the sunlight
So, Akaza dies and Rengoku is alive.
After this battle Rengoku kills Enmu by himself in the Mugen Train arc. Even if Akaza survived the previous battle, he’d still never encounter Rengoku since he only came for Tanjiro
In the Upper Moon Meeting we would see since Akaza died, Muzan would be infuriated that one of his most loyal and strong demons had died. This causes him to send Doma or Kokushibo to kill Tanjiro. It’ll more likely be Doma who’s sent because Doma’s not really going to react to Tanjiro’s earrings, whereas Kokushibo probably would.
This is where things slowly start to fall apart.
Since Tanjiro would probably take a while to recover from such a battle, he won’t end up being there when Tengen kidnaps Aoi and Naho to go to the entertainment district and all 3 of them will end up dying since Aoi and Naho wouldn’t be able to do shit and Tengen can’t solo Gyutaro and Daki.
Tengen dies in this timeline instead of Rengoku, and Akaza dies instead of Gyutaro and Daki.
Tanjiro needed to repair his sword after the entertainment district arc but Haganezuka wasn’t willing to do it for him, so he went to the swordsmith village to find him. Since Tanjiro never went to entertainment district, he wouldn’t need to repaire his sword, meaning that at the start it’s going to be Genya vs Hantengu because Mitsuri took her own sweet time. Genya will end up dying, then Mitsuri will too, then Muichiro will too. All 3 of the, won’t have the opportunity to fight with each other but individually which is a massive issue.
Gyokko will still survive the battle because Muichiro would’ve never gotten out of water prison pot without Tanjiro.
So the big changes in the story so far are: Rengoku, Gyutaro, Daki, Gyokko and Hantengu stay alive, but Tengen, Akaza, Genya, Mitsuri and Muichiro die.
With 3 Hashiras down and 3 surviving Upper Moons, things aren’t looking good for the demon slayer corps.
On Tanjiro’s next mission, he goes with Giyu, Shinobu, Rengoku, Gyomei, Sanemi, Obanai, Kanao, Zenitsu and Inosuke. This is the part of the story that makes up for 2 completely useless arcs, as this is a new version of the Entertainment District Arc. Hearing about the fact that Tengen died to an upper moon, all 10 of them go just because they aren’t exactly aware of how strong this upper moon is. Gyutaro and Daki start to fail EXTREMELY miserabl and Muzan sees this as an opportunity, sending Gyokko, Hantengu and Doma to fight the 10 of them.
Shinobu, Inosuke, Kanao and Gyomei focus on Doma to avenge Kanae, with Gyomei just being there to have a more slightly balanced fight against the 2nd strongest demon other than Muzan. Obanai, Sanemi, Zenitsu and Tanjiro focus on Hantengu, and Giyu and Rengoku focus on Gyokko. Giyu and Rengoku are the first to finish up their battle, with Rengoku rushing to help fight Hantengu and Giyu helping the fight against Doma. Doma gets poisoned by Shinobu, weakening him and creating a much easier battle for the 5 of them, finishing the battle around the same time the guys against Hantengu do. The battle ends with no one dying but everyone having severe injuries.
6 Hashiras Remaining, with only 1 Upper Moon left.
