2024.03.31 18:24 djudice Klicky Probe to Dock alignment on V2.4?

I have completed the mechanical build for my first V2.4 from a LDO kit. This included a Klicky Probe kit. The probe was install on the toolhead with the probe mount all the way up as instructed. So far everything appears to be working as intended. I am in the software configuration stage and working on the Klicky Probe configuration. While working on the Probe to Probe Dock coordinates, I can see the Probe is a few millimeters high than the dock. Question: Is this normal or should they align without any adjustment? It appears a simply adjust of the toolhead mount is all that is required but I want to confirm. After watching many build Youtube videos, I have not observed anyone making this adjustment and therefore my confirmation questions?

Thanks in advance

Battery Warming up even when off on T10-DDM (Zero 10X, Dragon Hunter X10 etc...)
So couple of weeks ago I bought this Dragon X10 for $350 Australian Dollars and right away before testing the scooter I assumed that the battery would be bad, but after testing everything seemed fine until 3 weeks later after buying the scooter suddenly shut down completely even when the voltmeter was saying that was 57.5v left.
2: Buy a new pack that is absurdly expensive (around $800) keep in mind that I already spent $350 for the scotter plus $300 in parts, tires etc... So basically spend $1450 which for the same price I could easily buy an used scooter (probably newer) on marketplace or even buy a new one at the scooter shop for $200/$300 dollars more. Also keeping in mind that the motors, controllers and other parts are just worn as the battery was.thing to catch on fire.
Another thing that also caught my attention was the fact that when I charge the scooter the voltmeter says that I have 67.3v when fully charged which doesn't make sense for me since I have the 52v 18.2ah or is this normal ?
Also, I was getting around 30Km of range using dual motors and gear 2 which from what I saw looks like an average range for those settings
That said what you guys think is best ?
1: Try to buy new cells and try to fix the battery
2: Buy a new pack that is absurdly expensive (around $800) keep in mind that I already spent $350 for the scooter plus $300 in parts, tires etc... Also keeping in mind that the motors, controllers and other parts are just worn as the battery was.
3: Sell the scooter as is for whatever I can get and try to get the money that I spend on it back.

2024.02.28 22:58 gotchabrah Under what circumstances would an LDO/CWO have command of a ship? (More info in comments)

Now, don’t ask me why, but I was reading the LDO / CWO 2024 Professional Guidebook (along with a few other random regulations and instructions on the same topic) and I came across a few sections that mention an LDO or CWO taking command of a ship. I’ve always been under the impression that a prerequisite for commanding a ship was a SWO pin, and now that LDOs and Warrants aren’t eligible for a SWO pin I thought they would not be eligible for command. Outside of maybe, succeeding in command because everyone else ahead of them took a YJ-18 to the face. I know some LDOs/CWOs have swo pins from before that policy was changed - maybe that has something to do with it?
In the LDO / CWO guidebook, Chapter II, Section 202, Para. A states: “Any LDO or CWO who is ordered as commanding officer or executive officer of a ship by the Chief of Naval Personnel is determined to be fully qualified and eligible to succeed to command at sea under the provisions of Navy Regulations.”
So, can any of you fine CWOs, LDOs, or people more experienced than I, explain to me what this means? It’s also mentioned in Navy regulations Art. 1084 and 1085, but I’m too lazy to go back and pull the excerpts.
I’m not well versed on the finer points of the LDO/CWO program (hence the reading), so I was curious about that statement. I know about LDOs/CWOs taking command of a shore installation or schoolhouse, but the reference to commanding a ship was new to me.
Thanks for reading this essay/random question.
Guidebook can be found here.

2024.02.22 22:41 Academic_Neat Feeling Lost Post Navy

Background: I am a 27 year old married father and have been separated from the Navy for about a year now. I was a Sonar Technician (STG1) and served for 8 years mostly overseas in the Pacific. I absolutely loved my job. I was meritoriously advanced to E-6 prior to hitting my 5 year mark in the service, everything was absolutely great. I dug in to the material. Spent many nights and weekends on the ship. So much so that my leadership sent me to STG Journeyman school as a "homegrow". I read about not just my own job but anything I could find. Tactics, other watchstations, weapons, engineering layouts, foreign diplomacy, etc. You name it I soaked it up. I took on many collaterals while on the ship and went the "tacticool" weapons/VBSS route. I had just met my now wife and was "mapped" to STG1 after receiving a "BZ" for my performance during the training cycle. I was a super star 7th fleet sailor teetering with the idea of going ACINT or putting in an LDO package. With 15 years left on my career at a minimum, I had my sights set very high and with good reason given my previous track record.
The Setback: I have had nosebleeds my whole life. Nothing major but every year or two I will go to an ENT and have my vessels cauterized and that usually minimizes the bleeding. Well I was having this done back in September of 2020. I went in like any other day and had an electrocautery performed. No big deal. Next day I receive a text that I am on the "random covid test" list that the ship had just begun requiring. This was an attempt to slow down the transmission of covid on base and on the ships. Another no big deal. Well as I stood in line I remembered my nose was still a little sore from the afternoon prior. I told her that and figured it would be fine and she would be gentle. Well boy was I wrong. I get my nose swabbed, burns a little, but I go about my day. It wasn't until two days following when I was on the "random" list yet again I realized this could be a problem. I asked again if I could be administered the saliva test but was denied that request. I ended up sucking it up and let them swab since they do not offer any other options outside of quarantine. Over the next two weeks I was "randomly" tested 5 more times and due to the wording of the instructions on the installation at the time I had no choice to be swabbed. My septum became infected, and then perforated. I then received a nasal rhinoplasty in Japan. All of this caused me to have to leave the ship and go LIMDU. My nose sadly did not heal as planned and left permanent sensory damage to both my smell and taste. The Navy saw this as grounds for medboard and then 3 years after that one doctors appointment, discharge.
What now?: I have been out of the Navy for about a year now. I attended school online for Computer Science for the first 8 or so months and then just completely lost the mojo to continue. Why computer science? I have no idea. People say its a good field and I am very good at math but I am a people person. I am currently a stay at home father while my wife works. She is almost done with her commitments and then I will be making my return to the workforce. I feel completely lost on what to do next. Part of the military that I liked so much was the structure. I knew exactly how the rest of my life was going to look because I could map it out year by year on the career ladder. I felt empowered and happy while working within the Navy. I loved the learning, the people, and the structure. I am having trouble finding something like this within the civilian world. I have always had an interest in Psychology and Mental Health but do not even know the destination or how to get there. I have never had strong role model figures in my life outside of those I met within the Navy. I feel that I am stuck in a rut right now and need the push out to greatness again. I feel my standout traits are leadership capabilities, unique and adaptive problem solving style, and devotion to knowledge. I guess I have been told throughout my career how great I was for the Navy, and as good as that makes me feel I do not know how to use it now. I appreciate anyone who has gotten this far and has any advice for me.

2024.02.13 19:40 Plansky1999 Expanding the CWO/LDO Program

Why hasn’t the Navy expanded either the CWO or LDO programs to include E-5s? I feel like expanding the programs could help with their recruiting issues. For example the Army allows E-5’s with 4 to 6 years experience to apply to their CWO program. Whereas the Navy it’s typically 12 years and you have to be an E-7. In my opinion the Navy’s focus on making Chief is leaving talented and qualified people behind. By opening up the programs to lower ranking people it might attract more motivated people knowing there is a faster opportunity to attain a higher rank.

2024.02.03 01:26 Hefty-Sample-1330 Going to OCS as a Chief

I’ve been really thinking about applying for OCS. I just recently received by Bachelors and I am past my time to apply for LDO. CWO is not something I am interested in as it will require much sea of me with the chance of zero shore duty. What are your thoughts about going the officer route via OCS as a Chief with almost 16 years in? Is it too late in the game for me? Should I just ride it out to retirement enlisted and move of the ranks that way?

2024.02.01 04:11 OldFartButt NEWBY on the loose.. Need lessons. I Don't know what I'm doing

I bought a Creality LDO-006 resin printer, cause it was cheap... Now I want to learn to use it. I've read the Neese instructions, and Leveled the build plate. BUT, when I do the test screen, where it's supposed to be a square boarder in white with the center and perimeter in black, the whole page is white(using a piece of plain paper on the LCD.
Have I both a dead printer? OR how do I ma it work like a champion????

I just made a PD powered MCH reflow hotplate for tiny workspace
It is as small as it can goes without making it too high and risk tipping over during reflow process
I designed and open source this palm size MCH hotplate for my side projects. Source files are on Github and build instructions on Instructables.
MCH hot-plate at 50W, and a thermistor glue below it
PD trigger chip + CH552G E8051 MCU, and a few LDO and mosfets for controlling the power to the MCU and MCH module
As an electronic nerd living in Hong Kong with a working space smaller than a coffee table, this is the only way I can work on my reflow projects.

Thoughts on my custom tactic? What can I do to improve our defending?
I’m in season 2 with Brighton, was playing league leaders Arsenal with my job on the line and I decided to go for a very attacking mentality which ended up getting us a 3-1 win in that game. Ever since I’ve started using very attacking mentality with a high line things have completely turned around and my tactic works almost every game, nobody can stop us from scoring at least twice a match.

2023.08.10 17:04 NorCalNavyMike Offering mentorship to FY-25 LDO/CWO candidates. Apply by 01 Oct 2023!

Shipmates, I selected for CWO this year after receiving some outstanding guidance along the way to improve my application package; and I received even more guidance, mentorship, and networking from the RC LDO/CWO community when it met earlier this year for its annual symposium.
I’d like to keep paying that forward! While I’ve certainly gotten phone calls and online reach-outs from PO1s and Chiefs seeking assistance, the clock is definitely ticking but there is still time to put your packages together even now—if you’ve been thinking about it, have general questions about the program, or if I can help you in any way to pursue & achieve your own ambitions of becoming a Mustang, reply here in public chat (or) send me a DM!!
LDO
CWO
For both packages, the process is straightforward:
Submit those pieces by 01 Oct; and you then have through 15 Dec, to submit any addendums (same process, and you would include evals, awards, relevant certificates, degrees, letters of recommendation, etc.)
I am happy to answer whatever questions I possibly can, and to point you towards other resources and mentorship as always. If you’ve been thinking about it, or even if you’re just curious: Don’t be shy, reach out!

2023.07.30 14:25 bikingfencer 1st Timothy chapter 1

1st Timothy (https://esv.literalword.com/?q=First+Timoth+1)   Chapter One

-2. unto TeeMOThaY’OÇ [Timothy], my son the true in belief …
“Probably, the apostle speaks here according to this Jewish maxim כל המלמד בן הבירו תורה מעלה עליו הכתוב כאלו ילדו [KhoL HahMehLahMehD BeN HahBeeYRahV ThORaH MeahLaHahLahYV HahKahThOoB Ke’eeLOo YayLDO] He who teaches the law to his neighbour’s son, is considered by the Scripture as if he had begotten him. Sanhedrim, fol. Xix. 2. And they quote Numb.” [Numbers] “iii. 1. as proving it; These are the generations of Aaron and Moses – and these are the names of the sons of Aaron. – ‘Aaron, say they, begot them, but Moses instructed them; therefore they are called by his name.’ See Shoetgen.” (Adam Clarke, 1831, p. II 554)
“A somewhat subtle interpretation points out that since Timothy’s mother Eunice, although a Christian, had been a Jewess, and since his father was a Greek, the marriage was illegal according to Jewish law, and Timothy an illegitimate child. The text, then, may wish to suggest that Timothy’s illegitimacy of birth has been put aside by the legitimacy of his spiritual rebirth.” (Gealy, 1953, p. XI 379)
…………………………………………………………..
Warning upon instruction other [verses 3-11]
-3. As that I went to Macedonia, I requested [בקשתי, BeQahShTheeY] from you to remain in Ephesus, and to command [ולצוות, OoLeTsahVOTh] upon several men,
that they not teach [יורו, YOROo] instruction other, 4. and not give their heart over to legends [לאגדות, Le’ahGahDOTh] and accounts without end [קץ, QayTs] upon genealogies [תולדות, ThOLDOTh] [of] the generations,
words the giving place to squabbling [לחטוטים,* LeHeeTOoTeeYM] and disputes [ווכוחים, *OoVeeKOoHeeYM] more from that to [the] plan [לתכנית, LeThahKhNeeYTh] [of] Gods, that is founded in faith.
“The Jews had scrupulously preserved their genealogical tables, till the advent of Christ; and the evangelists had recourse to them, and appealed to them in reference to our Lord’s descent from the house of David… but we are told that Herod destroyed the public registers: he, being an Idumean, was jealous of the noble origin of the Jews: and that none might be able to reproach him with his descent, he ordered the genealogical tables which were kept among the archives in the temple to be burnt. See Euseb. [Eusebius2 ] H. E. lib. i. cap. 8. …
Some learned men suppose, that the apostle alludes here to the Æons among the Gnostics and Valentinians3 , of whom there were endless numbers, to make up what was called their pleroma; or to the sephiroth, or splendours of the Cabalists [see Practical Kabbalah - Wikipedia].” (Adam Clarke, 1831, p. II 555)   …
-8. We know that the instruction is good, if living in her according to [לפי, LePheeY] her laws.
“What is the function of the law in the Christian faith? Obviously the problem is the persistent one. In both synagogue and church the law had the status of revelation and therefore a priori had to be had to be held to as “holy and just and good” (Rom. [Romans] 7:12, 16). In the Christian experience of redemption, however, ‘the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from law … the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ’ (Rom. 3:21-22). This problem of dualism the church wisely did not solve by rejecting the old revelation outright, nor yet by insisting on full literal obedience to it. It labored rather with principles of discrimination and reinterpretation. The rejection of the food laws and circumcision by liberal or Gentile Christians constituted virtual abandonment of the law in the eyes of Jews and of many Jewish Christians. This, together with insistence that no man could be saved by works of the law, could only make the church appear to be acting in cavalier fashion with regard to the divine revelation, to be picking and choosing, and professing only a hypocritical faith in scripture…” (Gealy, 1953, p. XI 386)
-9. That know we, that law has not been designated [נקבע, NeeQBah'] for [', BeeShBeeYL] ’ahDahM ["man", Adam] righteous, rather from intention [מכון, MeeKhooVahN] it is to [the] licentious [למפקרים, LeMooPhQahReeYM] and to [the] rebellious [ולסוררים, OoLeÇOReReeYM], to [the] wicked and to sinners, [the] polluted [לטמאים, LeeTMay’eeYM] and doers of abomination4 [תועבה, ThO`ayBaH], to murders of father and mother,
-10. to fornicators and to bedders of [ולשכבי, OoLeShOKhBaY] male [‘Αρσενοχοιταις’ [arsenokhoitais] ‘from αρσην’ [arsyn] ‘and χοιτη’ [khoity] ‘a bed’5], to snatchers of [לחוטפי, LeHOTPhaY] ’ahDahM, and liars and swearers [ונשבעים, VeNeeShBah`eeYM] to a lie, to all what are against [את, ’ehTh (indicator of direct object; no English equivalent)] the instruction the certain.
“Christianity is not here a spirit religion; it is a settled established body of teaching. Christianity has become for the writer a new law and a religion of obedience. Nothing could be more un-Pauline.” (Gealy, 1953, p. XI 387)
…
…………………………………………………………..   Gratitude* [הכרת טובה, HahKahRahTh TOBaH, “recognition of good”] **upon compassions of Gods
[verses 12 to end of chapter]
...
-15. Believable [מחימן, MeHaYMahN], the word, and worthy to agreement full,
that the anointed YayShOo`ah ["Savior", Jesus] came unto the world to save sinners, of whom I am the great in them.
“The language is certainly not that of Paul, who nowhere speaks of Jesus as ‘coming into the world’. Nor does the expression to save sinners occur elsewhere in the New Testament. The general idea is common enough on the lips of Jesus (Mark 2:17, Luke 5:32, 19:10), although Jesus does not say he came to save sinners, but to call sinners to repentance. That Jesus came into the world is the language of John (5:43; 7:28; 8:20; 9:39; 10:10; etc.) (Gealy, 1953, p. XI 391)
-16. And, however [ואולם, Ve’OoLahM], on account of [משום, MeeShOoM] that [כך, KahKh] I was compassioned,
in order [כדי, KeDaY] that in me in first, showed, YayShOo`ah the Anointed [את, ’ehTh] all array [of] his spirit, as a model [כמופת, KeMOPhayTh] to [those whose] future is to believe in him to [לשם, LeSheM] life eternal.
-17. To King [of] the worlds, the existing to has not [לאין, Le’aYN] end and the without [הבלתי, HahBeeLTheeY] being seen,
that he, him alone, is the Gods; to him is the honor and glory to worlds of words. I believe [אמן, ’ahMayN].
“The idea of the ages goes back ultimately to the Babylonian idea of world [emphasis mine] periods of thousand year cycles, which in the heavenly order corresponded to our earthly year.” (Gealy, 1953, p. XI 392)

-19. … There are [יש, YaySh] that send forth from upon them these [things];
and broken is ship [ספינה, ÇPheeYNaH] [of] their belief.
-20. And from them are Hymaneous and Alexander,
that I delivered [מסרתי, MahÇahRTheeY] to SahTahN [“adversary”, Satan],
to sake they be educated [יחנכו, YeHooNeKhOo] that not to blaspheme [לגדף, LeGahDayPh].
“… what this sort of punishment was, no man now living knows. There is nothing of the kind referred to in the Jewish writings. It seems to have been something done by mere apostolical authority, under the direction of the Spirit of God.
Hymeneus, it appears denied the resurrection; see 2 Tim. [Timothy] ii. 17, 18. But whether this Alexander be the same with Alexander the coppersmith, 2 Tim. iv. 13 or the Alexander, Acts xix. 33. cannot be determined.” (Adam Clarke, 1831, p. II 560)

3 “Valentinianism is a Gnostic movement that was founded by Valentinus in the second century CE. … Its influence was extremely widespread … (Green 1985, 244). “Later in the movement's history it broke into two schools, an Eastern school and a Western school. Disciples of Valentinus continued to be active into the fourth century CE, after the Roman Empire was declared to be Christian (Green 1985, 245). …
“Valentinus was born in approximately 100 CE and died in Alexandria in approximately 180 CE (Holroyd 1994, 32). According to Epiphanius of Salamis, a Christian scholar, he was born in Egypt and schooled in Alexandria. Clement of Alexandria, another Christian scholar and teacher, reports that Valentinus was taught by Theodas, a disciple of the apostle Paul (Roukema 1998, 129). It is reputed that he was an extremely eloquent man who possessed a great deal of charisma and had an innate ability to attract people (Churton 1987, 53). He went to Rome some time between 136 and 140 CE, in the time of Pope Hyginus, and had risen to the peak of his teaching career between 150 and 155 CE, during the time of Pius (Filoramo 1990, 166).
“Valentinus is said to have been a very successful teacher, and for some time in the mid-second century he was even a prominent and well-respected member of the Catholic community in Rome. At one point during his career he had even hoped to attain the office of bishop, and apparently it was after he was passed over for the position that he broke from the Catholic Church (Roukema 1998, 129). Valentinus was said to have been a prolific writer, however the only surviving remains of his work come from quotes that have been transmitted by Clement of Alexandria, Hippolytus and Marcellus of Ancyra. Most scholars also believe that Valentinus wrote the Gospel of Truth, one of the Nag Hammadi texts (Holroyd 1994, 32).
“Notable Valentinians included Heracleon, Ptolemy, Florinus, Axionicus and Theodotus. … According to Irenaeus, the Valentinians believed that at the beginning there was a pleroma, also known as the ‘fullness’. At the centre of the pleroma was the perfect Father who projected 30 heavenly archetypes (aeons), among them Sophia (wisdom). Sophia’s weakness, curiosity and errors lead to the creation of Christ and the Holy Spirit, and eventually to the creation of the world and of man, both of which are flawed. To the gnostics, Jehovah is what is known as the demiurge, an imperfect and flawed creator, who Valentinians identified as the God of the Old Testament (Goodrick-Clarke 2002, 182). According to the Valentinians, the God of the Old Testament was not God at all and was merely the 'imperfect creator'. One had to realize this and learn to recognize the Father, the ‘depth of all being', as the true source of divine power in order to achieve gnosis (knowledge), which was the ultimate goal (Pagels 1979, 37). The Valentinians believed that the attainment of knowledge by the human individual had positive consequences within the universal order, and contributed to restoring that order (Holroyd 1994, 37). According to the Valentinians, gnosis, not faith, is the key to salvation. Clement wrote that the Valentinians regarded Catholic Christians ‘as simple people to whom they attributed faith, while they think that gnosis is in themselves. Through the excellent seed that is to be found in them they are by nature redeemed, and their gnosis is as far removed from faith as the spiritual from the physical’ (Roukema 1998, 130).
“One of the main issues that proto-orthodox Christians took with the Valentinian point of view was their separation of Christ into three figures; the spiritual, the psychic and the bodily. Each of the three Christ figures had its own meaning and purpose (Rudolph 1977, 166). The distinction between Christ’s human nature and his divine nature was a major point of contention between Valentinians and Catholics. They acknowledged that Christ suffered and died, but believed that ‘in his incarnation, Christ transcended human nature so that he could prevail over death by divine power” (Pagels 1979, 96). These beliefs are what caused Irenaeus to say of the Valentinians, “Certainly they confess with their tongues the one Jesus Christ, but in their minds they divide him’ (Rudolph 1977, 155).

2023.07.25 18:34 packmanwiscy r/NFL Top 100 Players of the 2022 Season - Post Mortem Thread

Hello everyone, and welcome to the final post of the NFL Top 100 Players of the 2022 Season... our Post Mortem thread!

Included here are the individual ranker lists, the master list, and rank breakdowns from this year's ranking process.

Ranker Lists / Master List / Calculations

Here are the things I’m sure everyone wants to pour over - the individual rankings, their corresponding sheets, and the master list with associated fancy data.
The lists that follow are the personal opinions of 53 individual people combined to find an average rank. Some of our users shared their lists as we went along with each reveal. As promised from the beginning, all data is being made available to you.
As a refresher, here is a quick run down of the methodology:
Methodology
Link to more detailed writeup on our methodology
  • Step 1: A Call to Rankers right after the Conference Championship games
  • Step 2: Rankers from each team nominated players to rank, with a 11 game minimum threshold. Players are associated with the team they played for in 2022
  • Step 3: The Grind. We instructed users to tier positions groups into T25, T50, etc based on 2022 regular season play only. This took several weeks as the rankers tiered each position group and discussed them. There were no individual player threads and no arbitrary position caps. Just questions and rankings.
  • Step 4: Users submitted their own personal Top 125 lists.
  • Step 5: User lists were reviewed by myself, u/mattkud , and u/MikeTysonChicken . The rankers were expected to answer questions about their lists. They were allowed to make any changes to their list, and were not forced to make any changes
  • Step 6: The Reveal… which we just finished!

With that said, here are the lists:

These are the completed ranking forms from 1-125 for each individual. After all lists were submitted, u/mattkud and I combined the lists into one sheet to calculate an average rank for each player and a standard deviation to use when trying to find outliers. There were 194 players nominated; with rankers tasked to rank out to 125, any player that didn’t fall on a user's Top 125 was assigned an unranked value of 140. This was used to help calculate the average rank.
We then used conditional formatting within Google Sheets to highlight ranks that were 1 standard deviation off a players mean rank in addition to using 2 standard deviations. The biggest reason why we also used 1 standard deviation is that numerous players had large standard deviations to begin with, as you’ll see. This makes sense, especially towards the bottom end of individual lists when players can be unranked by numerous rankers. While it’s not ideal, we had to ensure that we caught players that were accidentally omitted from user lists. Highlighting both standard deviations made this a possibility.
We then reviewed each user's list with assistance from MikeTysonChicken. As a former showrunner of the Top 100 list, he gave us an additional set of eyes to observe the process . Part of our hesitation with performing the list reviews is we don’t want to indirectly coerce rankers to move players to certain spots. That would go against the entire spirit of this project. So, we simply stuck to the conditional formatting as outlined above and asked each individual ranker their thoughts on the players identified as outliers, requiring justification on players 2 or more standard deviations from their mean. There were some users who realized they forgot to rank a certain player, or mistakenly had a player ranked lower (or higher) than they intended, and they were free to make corrections. For example, more than a few ranked Jaguars Josh Allen when they intended on ranking Bills Josh Allen and vice versa. If rankers felt like they needed to make any other adjustments, they were free to do so at this time, but they were under no obligation to do so. If they felt their list was justified and were fine with all of their submission, once they provided that concurrence, we locked their list. Once all mistakes and changes were made for other users, their lists were locked as well. All completed lists were reviewed and locked with the concurrence of the individual ranker.
Once this was complete, we calculated the ranks to find the Top 100 Players of the 2022 Season.
This year we continued to remove 1 high rank and 1 low rank to calculate the average rank. In the case of ties, we broke them by including the 1 high and 1 low rank and recalculating their average. This occurred twice in this years rankings.

Historical List

And now for a fun little trip down memory lane... Here is the Historical List:

Master Ranking List

Notes:
  • Column BG is the sum of all the ranks for the player
  • Column BH being the average rank of Column BC.
  • Column BI is the sum of all the ranks for the player minus the sum of the highest and lowest rank for each player. If there are multiples of the same value, it only subtracts 1 of the highest/lowest. This is what is used to find the final rank. The formula looks like this:
=SUM(E2:BE2)-LARGE(E2:BE2,1)-SMALL(E2:BE2,1)
  • Column BJ is the average value, and thus rank, for the player minus the highest and lowest rank divided by the total number of sheets (53) - it's highlighted in yellow. Essentially, Column BI is divided by the total number of sheets. This is the final average rank for each player. The order, 1-194, is determined from this value, low to high. You’ll notice 4 cells highlighted in green in this column for the Top 125, this was to visually indicate ties to me.

Calculations and Outliers

LINK TO CALCULATIONS SHEET
Explanation
Final Calculations - w/Adjustments & Concurrence: This is the conditional formatting we used to determine outliers for the sheet reviews. This is NOT the sheet we used for the outlier sheet, this is merely an example of the formatting that was used for the outlier sheet. You can clearly see certain ranks are color coded to indicate ranks that were much above or below the congregate average. The original outlier calculation sheet included several mistake ranks that were corrected, as well as a single list that was removed during the calculation stage. This is included for transparency’s sake, just so y’all can see a bit under the hood.
  • Red cells are high ranks that are 2 standard deviations from the mean, as in the ranker was too high on a player strictly per standard deviation.
  • Blue cells are low ranks that are 2 standard deviations from the mean, as in the ranker was too low on a player strictly per standard deviation.
  • Yellow cells are high ranks that are 1 standard deviation from the mean but less than 2 standard deviations as well. These are not outliers and rankers didn’t have to account for them. I simply noted them in case there was an error.
  • Orange cells are low ranks that are 1 standard deviations from the mean but less than 2 standard deviations as well. These are not outliers and rankers didn’t have to account for them. I simply noted them in case there was an error.
CAN THE STANDARD DEVIATION METHOD BE IMPROVED UPON?
Yes, this is a real question we could use an answer on from the sub. NFL suggested to us a couple years ago to use standard deviation when trying to identify outliers. I believe the method works very well as you can see in the data above though I do think it has its flaws. This is largely due to how the ranking average is calculated.
You’ll notice a high number of players have standard deviations in the mid-20’s, or even 30’s, which makes identifying true outliers really difficult. A good example of that is Aaron Donald. He has been the best defensive player over the last decade and was still extremely good when on the field, but his playing time made him really hard to judge. Some people didn’t care about missing time due to injury and ranked him highly, other’s cared a lot and ranked him very low. Neither viewpoint is necessarily wrong, but it does make his standard deviation very high and using it to find outliers seems rather pointless. And he didn’t even have the biggest standard deviation!
For now, we’ll continue with the sheet review as done above. However, if anyone has a way to improve how we identify outliers without ranking out all players to 200+ let me know! I know this is basically a copy/paste from the question we posed last year, but we’re always looking for ways to improving the list and this is one of the bigger things that could be improved

Thoughts / Recap

I just wanted to take a moment and give my own thoughts on the changes and recap this year's version of the NFL Top 100 since I largely tend to stay out of the conversation.
1). u/mattkud and I are extremely thankful that you guys have stuck around this long to read the list! I may have been the more public face here on nfl by posting all the threads, but kud was crucial behind the scenes creating the various spreadsheets and virtual infrastructure needed to organize everything. I want to stress this was not a one man show, but a team effort. The rankers put out a fine list this year and were (mostly) well-behaved in the comments section.
2). For the last couple of years we’ve instituted a minimum games threshold to the list. This year it was 11 games, which was a rise from 10 games on our 2021 list but more in line with our 10 game threshold in a 16 game season in 2020. This meant that guys like TJ Watt and DJ Reader were left off the list before the process could even start. We got a fair amount of comments about the games requirement wondering why guys like Watt weren’t showing up here. And I don’t want to single out Watt here as being especially problematic, even if we reverted the games threshold to 10 games, then guys like Cooper Kupp and Rashan Gary would be left out of it, and these guys very well could be seen as worthy of being on the list. As of right now we give the rankers a fair amount of leeway with how they want to take injuries into account, some (rightfully) don’t care about missed time and grade the players simply on the quality of whatever snaps they had, while others (rightfully) penalize players for missed time, because after all availability is the best ability. This means that players that did hit the minimum games but still missed significant time like Aaron Donald and Jordan Poyer have very large standard deviations. I’m not sure this is even really an issue because everything eventually averages out, but I felt like the missed games thing was especially apparent this year. This is after all a community driven list so I do want to ask, is this something that you think should be re-evaluated? Is an 11 game minimum threshold too strict? Is it too lax? Should we use snaps instead of games? Should there be a limit at all? What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow? I wonder what you guys think about that
As always, we cannot thank enough the showrunners who came before us, u/MikeTysonChicken , u/Mister_Jay_Peg , u/skepticismissurvival , and u/Staple_Overload . These guys have made kud and I’s jobs a lot easier by providing the foundation that we used to build the ranking process. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, all we’ve had to do is copy and reformat the existing spreadsheets in order to fit the current year. It’s been a joy to run the NFL Top 100 list this year (for the most part) and I personally cannot wait to run it back next year

Closing

The book is now closed on the NFL Top 100 Players of the 2022 Season. If you want to look back at any of the releases, the Hub Post should have you covered
Keep a lookout for the Call for Rankers sometime around the Super Bowl if you would like to join next year.
