I F(24) was visiting my college girlfriends in Louisville Kentucky for our second annual reunion at the Derby. One of my friends lives in the town right outside of Louisville and was hosting us.
We originally planned to go to a derby themed party on Friday night called Phillies and Stallions. The party had a list and half of the group got on the list. Those on the list could bring plus ones so our plan was to have the two girls who didn't get on the list be our plus ones. The host was one of the girls who did not get on the list leading up to the event kept mentioning that it would be okay if we went without her if she didn't make it. (Which is strange since she was the one hosting us) Come to find out her new boyfriend was guilting her for days about going to the party saying he couldn't believe she would "degrade herself to be a ploy for the hosting company to make money"
For context girls got into the party for free and men paid entrance and the event was sponsored by several different companies (Standard procedure for almost every party I've ever heard of) To make a long story short we did not end up going to the party because the hosts boyfriend made her feel so bad about it. Party aside we sat her down and told her as her friends we were worried for her and that her boyfriend was showing some serious red flags and the early signs of an abusive /controlling relationship. The conclusion of the conversation was that they would have a "talk on Sunday"
Fast forward to Sunday and the other girls were local to Indiana and were planning to head home. I flew from North Carolina and would be flying out Monday morning. The host informed us that Sunday she would be going to church and lunch with her boyfriend and parents- annoying since our Friday was already ruined bc of him and our girls trip had been planned for an entire year at this point and church can happen any other weekend- but decided not worth the fight so let it slide. I decided to go a workout class that morning with another college girlfriend of mine. I left before the host and as my other two friends were packing up to drive home they said goodbye to the host who was heading to church. They heard her say "oops I almost forgot my pool bag if it's nice we are having a pool day.
The two immediately texted me to ask if I knew anything about a pool day- I did not. They hung back to spend some time with me before going home as the host seemingly planned a whole day without me. We decided to pack up all my bags and I called a friend from college in the area to spend the day with him. Part of me felt bad for leaving. I did not hear a WORD from this girl the entire day until 10:30 PM when she came home to an empty apartment. I had her location throughout the day and saw she went to her parents pool, her grandparents house, a Mexican restaurant, a park, and out for ice cream. I her best friend flew across the country and by all accounts in her mind was rotting in her apartment in a city I didn't know without access to a car while she spent the whole day frolicking around the city with her boyfriend who lives 40 minutes away from her.
Upon arriving back home after not speaking to me all day I received a panicked call from her around 10:30 PM asking where I was. At this point I had a fun day involving a barcade, lunch, pool day and was headed to a bar at the time of her call. I was so grateful to my friend for taking me in on one of his only days off for the week. (He works in the service industry as a bartender and has crazy hours) I informed her that since she decided to abandon me I had sought out other plans for myself besides rotting on her couch as well as organized sleeping arrangements and transport to the airport since I clearly was not welcomed any longer. I expressed my disappointment with her choices and told her she was acting so far out of character that I didn't even recognize who she was anymore. The girl I previously knew was a bright ray of sunshine that lit up every room and never knew a stranger . The girl I spent the weekend with was anxious,easily irritated and spent most of her time typing novels of texts to her boyfriend on the phone. I told her to do some reflecting on the ways her relationship was changing her as an individual and a friend. I told her I was heading into a bar and not to bother me any further because her choices had already caused me and lot of feelings of sadness, stress, and betrayal.
I have since flown home and about two weeks have passed and I have yet to hear a word from her since our phone call. I personally have not reached out (and for context did not text her all day Sunday) because I believe it is not my responsibility. I did know she planned to have a conversation with her boyfriend on Sunday but was under no impression that she would be away all day and I would be left to fend for myself . I do feel a small level of guilt because it is clear that the relationship is affecting her judgement and as her friend I should always support her. But the other half of me feels like that I was not shown any consideration on her part and is holding on that feeling of betrayal.
I'm afraid our friendship is beyond repair at this point . Some have said that I am at fault for not intimating a conversation about my thoughts on the events of the weekend. AITAH for leaving and waiting to hear from her?

You may have seen my post from a few months back about bringing my grandmother to Disney. I just came back and wanted to share my thoughts and experience with how it went. It was an amazing trip that I will cherish forever. My grandmother turned 87 in late April and she asked me to show her Disney "one last time." I knew I had to plan the best trip for her.
We stayed at Caribbean Beach so she could use the skyliner and she LOVED it! It was easy for us to park hop and we stayed in martinique which was a perfect spot because it was close to the riviera skyliner and the lobby. We did 3 nights 4 days with a 3 day park hopper which I think was the perfect amount of park time.
My grandmother refused to get a scooter and wanted to walk the whole time. We ended up doing about 30 miles of walking in the 3 days and let me tell you she is a trooper! She definitely out-walked me. She is amazing. She is blind in one eye so her depth perception is off, but she was able to navigate the parks and not trip. I did have to help her a bit to get on the boat rides. She did not have an issue getting on the rides with the moving platforms though, as well as the skyliner.
For the rides, she did most of them! We skipped the rollercoasters after she went on slinky dog because she said it hurt her neck. She also did not like star tours. Things like ROTR, remy's, and MMRR were all great for her though. She really wanted to do TOT but decided that was probably not a good idea. She cannot see 3D because of her eye but I don't think it took away too much for her. She still wore the glasses so nothing was blurry. Her favorites were definitely FOP, soarin, and small world. She was telling me how she got to ride small world when it originally opened at the 1964 world's fair!
As for dining, we ended up going to 50s prime time, flame tree BBQ, be our guest, brown derby, the quick service at caribbean beach, primo piatto, and the booths at flower and garden. I definitely think that I should have just stuck with table service vs quick service or the festival booths because she was very indecisive. It was also nice for her to talk to the waiters so they could cater to her dairy intolerance. Her favorite meal was be our guest and she thought it was so magical and our waiter Matt made our day. We also loved eating at the Riviera and the cast member Erica made her day so special. Everyone was so nice.
We did park open to park close while park hopping (she's crazy, she didn't want to take a break!). I made sure we got to see all the nighttime spectaculars (Fantasmic, Luminous, and Happily Ever After). I did the dining package for Fantasmic and the post dessert party for Happily Ever After. These were both worth it for sure in our case. Her favorite show was the Epcot fireworks though.
All in all, what a special trip for us. I will remember this forever and it went better than I ever could have imagined. She loved her custom tinkerbell ears I got her and was so happy every time someone said "happy birthday!" to her because of her birthday pin that I got her. If you have the opportunity to go with a grandparent, PLEASE do it. It will be the most special trip of your life. These memories will be with me forever

You may have saw in the news last week that the Oasis deal was signed between SBC and Seven Capital.
This will be bringing the pool back only and a small gym and Cafe. The Oasis Hall is not included, and many people are not aware of this.
By not having a Hall anymore at the Oasis, (restored or rebuilt), the Oasis Pool will be at risk of closure again. This is why they got such a poor keep open clause of just ten years as part of the deal. The Council promises a new music venue elsewhere, but they are nearly bankrupt and that won't happen for years.
A new music venue near the Bus Boulevard won't plug the gap for Indoor sports at Oasis which will be lost. Many sporting clubs relied on the Oasis Hall, including Squash, Badminton, Roller Derby and Boxing. Without a dry side, the Oasis will likely close again, next time for good. We have heard expert warnings on this, including from former managers of the Oasis.
This deal has been rushed through to get the Oasis reopened in its 50th anniversary year in 2026, and for Labour to appear like they have saved the Oasis, but actually it's not the Oasis people want. Already nearly 1,600 people have signed the online petition to include a Hall in the new Oasis plans.
The planning application is due to be submitted by Seven Capital sometime between July and September so we don't have long left to influence the outcome. Seven Capital are currently negotiating the deal with the Operator. Seven Capital want to cram in housing on the Oasis site, similar to the Speedway issue.
We are losing leisure facilities in our town due to housing development and this has to stop.

2024.05.20 21:19 ZMenace3 Help! TD-H3 Priority channel? Or another radio model?

Preface : I am new to GMRS and radios in general, but feel like I have a pretty good understanding. If the question is silly, I apologize, but I cannot seem to find the right info by searching. Maybe I am not searching proper terms lol.
Myself and a friend are looking to use some GMRS radios to monitor channels at NASCAR races. This includes driver communication, race control, TV broadcast, and radio broadcast.
I did my research and I bought a set of the Tidradio TD-H3’s. We also bought two headsets with push to talk buttons and microphones. The idea here is to program in all of the correct channels for monitoring and use one of the two channels to do that. The second channel on the radio is set to one of the preprogrammed GMRS channels which we had planned to use for talking to one another (with licenses) wirelessly during the race.
Now, finally, the problem! The issue we seem to be having while testing out this setup is neither channel A nor channel B has priority. For example, if we both have our B channels set to the radio broadcast, and then one of us tries to talk to the other on the GMRS channel A, the transmitting radio DOES transmit on that GMRS frequency, but the other radio will not receive it. From what limited knowledge we have, it’s almost like we need a way to set a “priority channel” when if a transmission is received on that GMRS channel it interrupts the “listening” B channel.
Obviously, if there is a quiet point in the broadcast or we use a hand signal to each other and switch channels entirely, it works fine - but this defeats our intended purpose. Ideally, anytime the radio receives a transmission from the GMRS talk channel I want it to interrupt the “listening” UHF channel.
Is what I am asking for possible with the TD-H3? Is there another radio this is possible on?
With my limited knowledge of GMRS, it seems like this would be a highly sought after feature for someone wanting to monitor multiple channels but make sure they don’t miss something on the most important one!

The Fifth Annual Inkfort Press Publishing Derby
Welcome to the beginning of the 2024 Publishing Derby! The signup link for this year's event is located below the recap of each phase. Participants are heavily encouraged to read through the overviews before registering.
Phase 1
Sign-ups
The registration form will open on Saturday, May 18th and remain open until we have approximately 100 entrants.
The full list of covers will be released for viewing on Sunday, May 19th.
Reminder: the pen names on the covers are required, as all participants will be asked to remain anonymous for the event. Please see the Official Rules and FAQs for further information.
Cover Ranking
Inkfort will provide a sheet for participants to rank the covers in order of preference. It is recommended that participants do at least ten, but the ultimate decision is on the individual.
The rankings are due Sunday, May 26th at Noon (EST). The sheet should be emailed to Inkfort Press with the author's name on it.
Cover Assignment
Once the sheets have been collected, the Inkfort team will assign every participant a random number. Then, we will assign each contestant a cover based on their ranking.
Example:
Nick gets assigned the number 3
Jane gets assigned the number 2
Max gets assigned the number 1
Max gets his first pick guaranteed since he is assigned a cover first.
Jane gets her first pick unless it was the same as Max’s. If it was, then she gets her number two.
Nick is next, and he gets number one unless Max or Jane got it, then we go down the list until the very first next cover is available, which in this case would be number 3, in the worst case scenario.
If someone doesn’t rank enough covers:
It is up to each participant to choose how many covers to rank. If a scenario occurs where there is no ranking to guide the assignments, they will be assigned one from what remains at our discretion. This assignment is not negotiable. ** Cover Distribution**
Once everyone has been assigned a cover, the Inkfort Admins will distribute the covers via email. This will include a digital copy of the cover, the title, and the pen name.
(Reminder that all participants will be asked to remain one hundred percent anonymous for the event. Please see the Official Rules and FAQs for further information)
Phase 2
Working Phase
The working phase is where participants will plan and write the book for their assigned covers, it runs from Tuesday, May 28th, to Thursday, August 1st.
The event requires a minimum of 10,000 words but does not have a maximum. Beyond the 10k, the size is up to each author.
While writing, keep in mind that all derby materials must meet the community standards of the event.
Participants are also allowed to begin marketing their books during this phase. Details on marketing can be found in Phase 4.
For more on the rules surrounding community guidelines, spending money, and marketing strategies, please see the official rules. As well, Inkfort suggests reading the Best Practices for tips on word count, as well as reader expectations regarding covers and content. Both of these documents and other information are listed at the bottom of the email.
Phase 3
Beta Readers
Beta phase begins Thursday, August 1st, and ends on Thursday, August 15th.
What is Beta Reading? A Beta reader reads a finished story and provides comments, questions, and other styles of feedback to help the author polish prior to publishing.
The Derby Beta Phase has two parts. In both parts, Inkfort acts as an intermediary for feedback, and all Beta readers (including derby authors who participate in this phase) remain anonymous.
Part One:
Inkfort Press emails a list of submitted books to their Beta Reader mailing list. The list will include the titles, short taglines, and blurb.
There is no guarantee that all books will receive feedback.
Part Two:
The second portion is an exchange exclusively between other Derby Authors. All books submitted in this portion ought to receive feedback from another participant, and each author who enters is expected to give feedback to one book.
The Inkfort Staff will compile the books entered and match them based on several factors, including, but not limited to, total word count and genre.
Part two is completely optional, but it is important to note that those who sign up and do not complete their assigned read may be locked out of the program in future events.
The feedback and questionnaires must be emailed back to Inkfort by Thursday, August 15th, at midnight. (EST)
Phase 4
Revision and Marketing phase.
The revision phase begins on Friday, August 16th.
Revision:
This phase is dedicated to revising the books based on feedback and self-edits. Participants are allowed to begin editing at any time, including during the Beta phase.
Marketing:
With the bulk of the writing finished for most participants, this is where the authors are encouraged to begin the bulk of their marketing. Authors are allowed to share details of the event as a whole on their main pages, but anything specific must be under the pen name.
There are two important rules for this portion of the event.
Each author must market under their assigned pen name.
Under no circumstances may an author use their pre-existing fanbase, family, friends, or social media during the derby. Only the author and Inkfort Staff are allowed to know who wrote each book during the event.
This also means authors can not use existing editing relationships, closed crit groups, or anything similar for the derby book. Anything used must also be accessible to a total stranger. It also means that participants should not be narrowing down the pool to those they know. No information about their individual book should be shared while not under the guise of the pen name.
Participants are not allowed to spend money on their derby projects during the event.
Authors can use the software they already own, such as:
Word processors
Formatting software
Rocket
They can not, however, spend money on things like:
Physical copies
Editing
Ads
Supplemental art
Pro-level of software
Phase 5
ARC’s
Arc submissions are due Saturday, August 31st. Arc email will be sent out on Sunday, September 1st.
What is ARC? ARC stands for Advanced Review Copy. These individuals get to read a polished copy of the book before it goes live and are often encouraged to leave a review as soon as possible.
Books that are finished and ready for launch may be submitted by the deadline. Those who do will be added to a list sent to the Inkfort Press ARC Readers list. Similar to Beta, they will see titles, taglines, and blurbs.
Phase 6
Publication
On Monday, September 23rd, all of the finished books should go live.
The following details are up to the authors, although the participants are free to ask questions and have discussions about them.

Inkfort only requires that the pen name remain the only persona attached at this stage, as well as having the event mentioned in the back matter.

If a book is not launched by the end of derby, the cover will revert back to Inkfort Press to be used during the next event. Participants may keep the story they wrote and find a different cover at the time they are ready to publish.
