2024.04.28 23:49 Melchior2001 (OG PS4) Loud fan despite recent change of the paste and pads.

I've changed the paste twice already but the unit is still loud. So I bought this PS4 at launch and really want to keep it going.
A few years ago I learned about the whole paste change thing. I bought this paste called "Grizzly". People said that's what PC gamers use when they overclock. My test game was Uncharted 4, loading a single player level really put the fan on max before. After applying the Grizzly paste, cleaning the fan and the heat sink, and also changing the thermal pads, I turned on the PS4 and everything was ok, I immediately launched Uncharted 4 and actually got scared... I couldn't hear anything. No, I didn't forget to turn the fan on, it was just that quite.
A couple of months ago, I noticed the fan was loud again, so I thought I'd give it the same treatment. But when I opened it there was barely any dust on the fan, just the light coat of static dust on the blades, nothing major. The thermal pads were in good condition and the paste was not dry. This time I just ordered the paste and I bought the Arctic Silver, since everyone was saying that it doesn't matter which paste to use. I didn't touch the thermal pads. After finishing it I turned on, but this time I barely noticed the difference, maybe there was no difference, the fan was still kind of loud. I immediately thought that maybe I didn't put enough paste. In any case, I decided to order some new thermal pads (I checked the thickness and the thickness was right, I believe it was 1mm, can't remember but I remember checking a few sources). So I cleaned the paste off, changed the pads but it sounded pretty much the same.
Anyway, the PS4 is back to being loud, it's only been a few months since paste + pads change but it was winter so no dusty outside air. I put my hand behind it and when the fan is spinning super fast the air is not even that hot, compared to when I decided to change it for the first time the air coming out was very hot. This leads me to believe that perhaps Sony did a firmware update which makes the fan behave like this (tinfoil hat theory?).
Maybe the heat plate is slightly warped so it doesn't touch the CPU well enough? But then the air coming out is not hot.
Sorry for the lengthy post, I am just wondering if it's something to worry about or given the age of my unit maybe it's just something I have to accept.

Appearance: 「Wish You Were Here」has no body or physical manifestation of its own. The only signs of its existence are the initials "WYWH" printed in barely visible holographic ink on postal stamps.
Ability: False memories shipping
「Wish You Were Here」is a phenomenon Stand that can inject false memories using postal stamps. Any official postal stamp, from any country counts as a valid stamp to trigger the ability. Custom stamps or damaged ones do not count.
To use his Stand, the User must lick the selected stamp and stick it on a letter or a parcel. There is no limitation on how many affected stamps can be in circulation at any given time, but only one WYWH stamp can be applied on a single letteparcel. If the user tries to add another one, then the previously applied one will turn back into a normal stamp.
Anything the User focuses on while licking and sticking the stamp will be saved inside it. This includes words, sounds, images, smells, tastes, but no haptic sensations (touch, pain) or raw emotions. Furthermore, the stamp cannot save direct orders. A stamp affected by WYWH can only record up to one minute of high mental activity. The intensity with which the user recalls or invent memories to store also affects their "reality level" in the recipient's mind.
The Stand is used to send people fake memories. Once they open the letteparcel shipped with a WYWH stamp, the memories will be implanted inside their brain forever, unless the User is killed or the stamp sent to another person. In that second case, the false memories will be erased from the target's mind. If 「Wish You Were Here」is used on a letter or postcard, the recipient is also more susceptible to directly believe what is written in it for a minute after opening it.
「Wish You Were Here」cannot be used to erase memories. Sending a stamp containing something like "remember how you never breathed in your whole life?" will simply make the target believe they never breathed, not remove their ability to breathe. It cannot add anything else to the target's memories than the content it was shipped with: if the stamp contains "Hey, remember how good your Icelandic is?" but the target never spoke Icelandic, they will not instantly learn the language, but simply be absolutely sure they did (and start speaking nonsense).
A memory implanted by 「Wish You Were Here」is indistinguishable from a genuine memory: no lie detection test would be able to flag them as fake.
Unless it gets sent by its target to someone else, a WYWH stamp is single-use. If someone interacts with it without being the direct recipient of it after the letteparcel has been opened, nothing happens.
If a letteparcel with an affected stamp is left in the wild without any specific recipient indicated on it, the memories will be implanted in the first person who opens it. If a recipient is clearly indicated, but someone else opens the mail, this other person will not get affected, but the designated recipient will if they read the letteopen the parcel themselves.
About the User:
Floyd Barrett is a 45 years-old postman who spent most of his life in misery, hated and harassed by his peers. The only thing he had to his name was his grandfather's stamps collection, a grandfather he barely got the time to know before he passed away. Feeling truly alone and desperate when that happened, he ended up selling the stamps collection, which contained some pretty rare finds, helping Floyd start anew. He was sure to have sold the whole set, but the night after, he found one specific stamp on his forehead, the one previously glued to a handwritten note by his grandfather: "my favourite. You gave it to me when we met. I wish you were here."
As his life continued, Floyd fell back into trouble and misery, but the stamp never left him. However, he started to notice that people he sent letters to started to remember things they shouldn't be able to know. Thinking about it, he found out that they mentionned thoughts he had while writing and sending those letters. One day, he decided to try something outlandish. He wrote a letter to himself, thought about a complex string of numbers and words. Then licked his old lucky stamp, stuck it on the letter, closed the enveloppe and left it on a table for a week. The week passed, and Floyd being really busy trying to find a job and make ends meet, he forgot the string of numbers and words he made up. Sunday came and before bed, Floyd took the enveloppe from the table. He opened it. And the data flew back into his mind, as if it had always been there. Taken aghast, he looked at the stamp and in the light, caught it for the first time: the subtle glimmer of holographic ink, WYWH.
Understanding his new ability, Floyd Barrett did everything he can to exploit it, and found a job as a postman. God knows how he uses this power now.

Hiya
I’m a student from New Zealand, interested in applying overseas to top schools in the US but I’m really nervous about my grades.
Basic rundown is I really wanna study Statistics at a post grad level in the US and at some really good schools too, Yale, Berkeley, Stanford, Harvard, MIT, Ann Arbor to name a few. Masters then Phd would be my goal.
I first did a conjoined degree for 5 years (normal time of completion). I did it in Commerce (major Economics) and Arts (major Stats). My first four years were average to bad. I mainly got Bs or B+‘s. I also I failed one class and got two C’s, one in a probability course and one in Maths course.
It was in my 5th year that everything sort clicked and I began to do really well. I did the the more advanced versions of those probability and maths courses I got a C in, and this time I got an A+ and an A. That year I also either got an A or A+ on the rest of my courses.
I then did some post grad in Stats, honours level. This is basically the first year of Masters in the US (also not equivalent to UK honours for the Brits reading, but equivalent to an Aussie one). I pretty much aced this, straight A’s or A+’s, including an A on a whole year research project.
In Stage 3 Stats (most advanced undergrad level) I got 5 A+’s, 2 A’s and a B. Then in my honours year (Stage 7 Stats) I got 6 A’s and 2 A+’s
My overall 6 year GPA is like a 3.5 US, and my post grad honours GPA is a 4.0 US.
I’m really anxious about those first 4 years of study, including that fail and two C’s. Will these grades ruin my chances of getting in to a top school, be honest, is it worth applying? What can I do to have them focus on my final 2 years of study, which went really well and are the reason I wanna do post grad in the US.
Also I have some good letters of recommendation lined up, so hopefully that helps
tldr: I did 6 years of study, 4 with average grades, then 2 with great grades. Will I have any shot of getting in to top schools?

Thanks for deciding to read my post today. This is not the definitive or complete explanation of wheelchair ramp design. Before I start let's get the technical potentially legal stuff out of the way first.
Ramps that are indoors or in a fenced in area like a back yard (THE FENCED AREA MAY BE DIFFERENT IF IT IS ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC). Ramps not used by the public = Food delivery, mailperson, utility meter reader, Jahova's Witnesses, etc.
These Ramps do not need to Meer ADA requirements. But should still be functional and safe to use. You'd be surprised at what people do. But if it works, then it works.
Backyards that are fenced in and not accessible to the public MIGHT be excluded.
FOR ANY RAMP OR ACCESSIBLE FEATURE ADDED TO OITDOOR SPACES THAT THE PUBLIC CAN ACCESS WILL 100% NEED A TOWN OR CITY PERMIT. THIS IS WITHOUT EXCEPTION.
Here is where it gets real. If you decide to ignore this and say someone trips, slips pr otherwise gets injured by your accessibility fearure. YOU and only YOU are at fault. Even if it is 100% ADA compliant, the feature was not properly registered with the town or city so it can be noted when and where it is installed and on what property.
Next the town or city will fine you a set amount per day it was in place without a permit. For example a permit for my handcycle shed cost $100 that might seem unfair and costly. But if I had just built my shed without permit they could fine me $1,000 per day it was up from the time it was built.
Getting a permit and making things 100% or better than ADA complaint, yes it is easy to surpass what the ADA asks for. ADA is the bare minimum expected.
This doesn't mean someone trying to con you won't try and sue you. But, if you have things in order such as getting a permit. Making things at least ADA compliant will support your side in a legal issue.
Yup that is the borish stuff for the most part. Forget about it and life will likely get very annoying.
For those who are interested and want a live community to chillax in to talk about most anything really, listen to music and make requests for Fave songs or topics you would like to discuss.
I broadcast live typically in the cold months M-F from around when my pain allows me to get up varies 9am to after noon and I go until my sweetheart arrives home. About 5PM to 6PM I have been broadcasting live 16 years.
Quite literally I am just repeating here what I will talk about live also.
TikTok until the ban kicks in. Then it's back to Twitch. AbiliTV or AbiliTV Live. If you Google the name do not pay attention to the website I don't have one. And the owner of that sight well let's say I don't endorse him.
I am on YouTube, FB, IG,,Twitch, account still there but not used since it went to X (Twitter), Kick - although I don't like the vibe on Kick.
Of course I am here getting started here on Reddit in a more text based community. I am in the Wheelchair and Disabilities communities where I am learning about all sorts of amazing people.
OK, I always hate posting I am a live content creator. I hate it so much I have hardly any community live.
Ramps.
What makes a crappy, good, or excellent ramp?
For me it is the little details that really make the differences. I will use images to try and explain the bare basics.
1st image: Most people see this and think: My prayers have been answered.
No they have not. You will notice the direction the person is using the ramp. Manufacturers do this to play into your desperate need for a ramp solution. They want you imagining how easy there ramp is to use. So they stage images showing that. Much how homes are staged. To make it easier for people to fall victim to slick sales tricks.
What if the door were closed and rhe person was approaching the door? Look at the ramp. How does one say open s screen door or storm door that swings out? Most dwellings will have one.
Now imagine it's raining really hard and that nice metal surface isn't as grippy? And you have a bag or two of groceries on your lap. Now open the storm door and then before it closes as they are typically on a door closer of some design. As you fight the storm door, are annoyed by the driving rain, and fumbling for your keys.
Even on an ideally perfect day without snow or rain this ramp will work 100% against you. Also it isn't wide enough to allow you to move over out of the way ofcthe storm door. Meaning you need to back up and get the door perched against your wheelchair frame to now roll foward to open the entry door. Sadly using the wheelchair brakes just make things all that much more frustrating.
2nd Image: 3 ft ramp $219. This seems decent right? It isn't. You have to account for the pitch or slope.
If you have a threshold that is 10 inches higher than the surface you need to reach, this means you need not just a ten foot long ramp but a raised area that meets the threshold that the ramp attaches to closest to the surface you're trying to reach.
What happens if you decide to use a short ramp and have a steeper slope? The worst will be to flip backwards going up. Next worst you don't have the upper body strength to make it. The next will be you deciding never to use it except to exit with. It is a little less scary going down. Although you need really good hand strength and dexterity to maintain control at higher speeds.
ADDING INFO AS A SAFETY REMINDER: Most manual wheelchairs have what are called brakes. ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ These are NOT brakes like those of a car, or bicycle. Injury or worse can happen when they are used as friction brakes. DANGER: You risk not only destroying your tire and wheelchair but also injuries from catastrophic failures of the tire and possibly the rims of the wheels.
These levers no matter if they are push or pull to lock or scissor styled brakes are only meant and made to hold you in place AFTER you use your hands to stop with. OR FEET for those able to do that.
The reason these are not brakes in the typical sense is because of how they work. They bite into the tire material and can blow out air filled tires by ripping through the rubber tire. On solid tires they can tear the tire causing it to fail and possibly fall off the rim. If the rim is left exposed and you are moving the metal or composite rim will slide on the surface.
The biggest excuses I hear for using these levers as brakes are: They are called brakes. YouTube wheelchair brake basics how to use and not use them. I don't want people ending more disabled than they already are.
My hands are to weak to stop me. I understand that. So my best suggestion is rubber coated work gooves. Leather gloves or some form of glove that you like to use. I personally don't like wearing gloves, but when I go on 16 mile strolls I wear a pair. They provide additional traction and that grip means less hand strength is needed to stop overall. It is not recommended to grab the tire for additional friction at any time while moving down hill.
If tire use us needed make sure you have a pair of heavy duty leather gloves on. Welding gloves short gauntlet works. Warning: This method destroys gloves rapidly. These is due to the sandpaper like friction the tire creates with its texture and tread design. Extreme heat can build up and burn your hands. So pay attention and release grip changing hand positions to reduce this.
Ramps have to be designed to work with the fact wheels like to roll. And steep ramps are what prompted my warning about brake use.
I am considering designing a brake system to work like a bicycle that could be added by most people. I will look into this concept at some point.
So a stubby short ramp might be low cost but isn't the answer it appears in most manufacturers images.
Lots of information that needs to be shared because so many people will fall into the thinking what they have is a good solution and it's harming them and the equipment they use.
Good news here: Most towns and cities do not charge or keep the charge very low for ramp and other disability access devices in public spaces.
What the permit does is show you the bare minimum of what is required to make your project ADA compliant. Also it resistors your ramp or lift with the town or city and at what property. This way should a nosy neighbor want to whine about your project looking horrible the town or city can reassure that negative rube that you are in full compliance with all the ordinances and ADA requirements. So they can mind their own beeswax.
Also the permit is a must if a property owner or landlord are to allow the access in the first place. This has to do with liability and property insurance. Speaking of that crap it would be wise to invest in renters insurance in the event someone claimsxto have been injured by your device. Do not depend only on the landlord or property owner's word that its covered. You could also ask your town or city how that works also to get a straight answer. If the landlord or property owner does claim you are covered always get that in writing.
3rd image shows the lack of what is called a staging area. This is exactly what a porch does. Notice the porch is flat and provides room to move out of the way of any storm door? This is a super important and all to easy to miss feature that makes a ramp go from frustrating to awesome.
I even made that mistake with my ramp I built for my garage. I did change it so it has a 6ft deep 4ft wide same as the ramp staging area that once I installed a screen door I use daily.
4th image: Now it gets colorful. Nothing attaches to the porch or the building in my design. This is to respect the property. And save you on extra costs to restore things later.
The support for the flat area of the porch:
Measure uo to the front top edge of the threshold. Say this is 6 inches or so... Using 4X4 cut to the same width of the porch. These are rated for outdoor ground contact.
Next using decking wood this should be equal to the top front edge of the threshold. In effect the timbers are the support they are orange and just on top of the porch. They go across to provide full support.
How to determine how many. For the porch shown in your image would likely use three. One right under the threshold, one in the middle, and one right along the front edge of the porch.
Decking would go left to right and for the parts with out full support use scrap pieces of 4X4 to position under those rows.
An alternative way to set the supports are: under the threshold is left to right full width of porch. Then instead of the others being left to right. Place one on the left going vertical or not left to right. One on the right side going perpendicular to fhe horizontal one. Then you will cut one 4 inches short for the center also placed parallel to the left and right. The front porch edge piece cut to fit the width between the left and right support.
That would allow you to place decking horizontally left to right with out worry of adding support for some of the deck strips.
The front edge of porch part I feel should be left to right mainly to insure there is no possible way for a ramp to flext or bow in this area. But you are welcome to Google methods on building something like this also.
The ramp for the porch will be the longest most likely based on the photos you shared. They are also referenced later in my post.
Only around the porch and the outside of the caster wheel guides on each side or the blue color in my image needs a railing, as well as down that first ramp.
The other ramps are little more than the plywood laying there. You wouldn't even really need the blue guides on the but they add additional stiffness from bouncing and bending.
Again Google is very good for finding examples of how you can design a capable railing. It doesn't need to be fancy, just meet the requirements the ADA sets. To avoid annoying splinters I strongly suggest using iron pipe or proper outdoor rated round railingbars.
Benefit of the metal pipe is it is very low cost. Con is in the sun it can get hot. To overcome thar railing grip tape can he used to cancle out the hot part and make it easier to grasp. Grip tape is not required.
Thankfully all of this is pretty easy to do if you have some some basic tools or have access to them like narrowing them. If you lack the skill or ability to do this. Trust me when I say buying lunch each day for the hard worker(s) often is payment enough. And Thank You is the perfect payment. Our reward is seeing you enjoying the work put into the project.
Last there is an green outline of a 2x4 on each side of the porch staging area. Put one on the far side as well and this should keep the staging area from shifting leftcand right. Surfaces endure a lot more force than we realize.
5th image I used my garage ramp before I corrected the flat staging area issue.
So this isn't how my indoor ramp now looks. It has no railings as it is not required and the flat area towards the garage side has a 4 inch tall wheel guard wall to keep me from accidentally rolling off front casters or rear wheels.
But, this is roughly how your front porch would look like. All designed to keep everyone safe who uses it.
By connecting the ramp to the flat staging areas makes it much harder for it to shift around. In the case of this if you owned the property you would use a contractors grade waterproof glue and 4 8 inch long lag bolts to secure the 4x4 or wood support right next to and under the threshold and bolt it and glue it to the location. Silicone sealant works also as it is mainly to keep insects from making the area home.
But since the property needs to be returned to original state, I find that making a saddle staging area works wonders. Sadlle in that it is,like a horse saddle. It isn't bolted to the horse but does use the shape of the horse as the stabilizer. And is easy to remove when needed.

The green is the railing around the porch and the first longest ramp.
The light kind of red horizontal strips are stair tread grip tape. Using wood screws shorter than the thickness of the plywood allows you to have a 2 method way to keep these strips in place. For how much they cost you will thank me. One screw near each corner and two one top one bottom in the center. This insures they are secure. The gue or adhesive isn't likely going to stick in every case.
You want full left to right coverage with 2 to 3 inch spacing between each horizontal strip. Yes you can just apply them centered and hope no one slips of they walk closer to the railing. Plus it makes insurance companies feel better also with more safety in mind.
In the event someone slips or falls when pictures are taken of l the scene it will look better for you to have provided more safety than not.
Also more screws can be used if desired. The only thing to make sure of is all screw heads are flat to the surface. The two method way also known as redundant measures to make sure things don't fail to the point of a catastrophe.
The ADA will likely have other suggestions different than I mention. Either will work, I find much of my ideas go beyond ADA requirements.
The ramps since they are so minor in slope may even be able to lay strips of 2x4 or even 1x1 that you screw to the underside of ramp. I almost think you could make what would look like a continuous ramp.
One step won't really need all 8 ft of plywood however keeping them full length means you could likely add smaller pieces where one ramp ends to meet with the highest point so you can connect them so this keeps them from shifting and moving as they will.
The little green marks along the sides of the blue for the length of the ramp represent side supports that are rounded into the ground and screwed to the sides.
As you use a ramp that is not secured it will move a little in the opposite direction of your direction of travel.
Also it will shift left or right when you first roll onto it. And since the ground shown is easy to return to its original condition once this is removed lowers cost at that time.
The blue dots represent horizontal srips placed where needed these are screwed in place as yes they will slide and move into new positions that don't support the ramp.
The goal is no bouncing, bending, flexing, warping ramps.
As long as all wood is rated for ground contact otherwise it will rot away pretty quickly otherwise.
The blue kind of bloody areas are flat sections filled in with plywood.
So once you enter this ramp ot remains a plywood surface until the porch area. Where it's decking.
7th image: An example of how your ramp could be designed. In this image since the ramp os longer and rises up higher I definitely would include ratings on each side. But - it may not require them so that is OK also. The redish area is a flat area at least 5 ft deep and 4ft wide. This would allow a person the chance to turn around also.
The circled spots denote support placement.
Now your steps for me would not need a ramp as I can strong arm my way up short steps or curbs like those. Tha porch would be the only area I would build if this were my place.
8th image: Immediately after moving in I built this and prior to finding the original screen door that the price owners removed and I reinstalled.
It was no fun using this ramp when I had to open the door. I typically had one of the kiddos now all grown up open it first for me.
The lack of a staging or flat area is a huge mistake.
This is ground contact outdoor rated plywood nearly 1 inch thick. Plywood keeps the construction simpler, and removal easier also later.
9th image: Shows the outdoor ramp. Notice the grip tape on this. This is the typical arrangement. I suggest side to side full width strips so able people can walk anyplace and be assured solid footing. The spacing I prefer also assures wheelchair tires have solid grip.
The steeper the ramp I say 3 inches between horizontal strips.
The shallower ramps for your lower or step ramps can be 4 to five inches between them. If they are wide strips works better.
Image 10: This is the ADA recommendation: 36 inches wide. Trust me especially for entry doors you want some space to move over to the side to get out of the way of a screen or storm door. And a place to put down groceries or a package or anything else so you can access the door.
48 inches just happens to be a pretty decent and better than ADA requirements that allows you more room for any purposes.
Image 11: Shows your porch. From what I see this should be pretty easy to cover with the staging area over the porch and ramp going down.
You want to measure from the front edge ofcthe threshold to the ground in front of the porch the walkway leading to it. This will give you a total height that needs to be accounted for.
Say it is a total of 10 inches tall. Your ramp will be 1 foot out per one inch in height. So 10 feet long. Now say you have the room and used 2 8 foot long plywood sheets end to end that is 16 ft. That means your slope will be less overall and easy to roll up. 10 ft will be usable but will be a little harder to roll up.
Funny thing is you use the same energy to roll up 10ft or 16ft. You just exert less energy over a longer distance that still equals the amount it takes to go up a 10 foot length.
Slope is something only you know what works for you. So if you need a little longer of a ramp if room allows it then that is fine.
Oh I forgot skip over the smaller step when making your measurements. That isn't where a ramp will end at to rest.

The over all length of these looks decently long enough. You in effect are just governing them as I hope I explained.
To keep the ramps from moving side spikes can be placed as mentioned 2 at the sides and top, two in the middle sides. And 2 and the bottom sides.
They get rounded into the ground next to each area of the Ramos they will be screwed to. You might even be able to lay a plywood sheet down and see if that is enough to raise you up enough. That the plywood could just lay on the walkway.
Now most likely that option will not fully work. Offered as an alternative.
The very end where ramp ends or starts at the lowest point you can get an aluminum door threshold commercial grade one. It means a little bump up onto the ramp and or down it.
I will photograph the one I have as it works like a charm. Also the rest of my garage ramp.
The deck to ramp can be connected using lag bolts from underneath into the 2 4x4 support. Using 6 or preferred 7 or 8 inch long lag bolts 3 of them to secure the ramp to the staging deck area.
Trust me when I say this, this is a mere drop in the bucket of information on how to design a ramp system.
Last little note:
Always get a permit prior making anything. The permit should cost nothing or very little since it is an accessibility ♿️ need. The information the permit comes with will also be of huge help in DIY or other options.
Sadly there is no way to construct something like this for no cost. However, church groups, friends, local elected officials, and others can be great resources. From fundraising, to helping you locate a foundation or charity to help cover some or all of it.
Do not feel bad for asking for help like this and when needed. Being a renter doesn't mean you should not have accessibility.
Like I mentioned if I was your fellow disabled neighbor I would help construct this.
Tools needed:
Tape measure x 2 I always end up needing 2 of them at times.
4 ft level.
Carpenter square.
Torpedo level. This is a 1 foot long smaller level like the larger 4ft one.
Carpenter or construction style pencil ✏️ they are flat and don't roll away when sat down.
Wood/deck screws 3 or 4in long.
Cordless drill and 2 batteries allows rotation of them when charging. They typically will last 2 or hours each. So when one runs out charge it while using the other.
Leather work gloves.
Socket wrench set for lag bolts.
Screw driver set. Mainly a number 2 Phillips and flathead. These come in handy.
Circular saw - they come corded or cordless either works.
Hand saw for those cuts to awkward for a power tool.
Drill bits for pre drilling holes.
Liquid nails to glue some things together.
Short wood screws not longer than the plywood is thick. For the grip tape strips.
Safety glasses get a few pair.
Hearing protection. Cutting wood can be really loud. Same with drilling it and all.
Things that could help: Something stable to place wood to be cut on.
Saw horses or milk crates the sturdy plastic ones. If they get cut into no big deal.
They cut be cut safely on the ground without risk of damaging tools or injuring you.
Since we are all in the same boat 🚢 in many respects, I find it sp satisfying helping people by helping them learn how they can also help themselves. It's how I was raised. Knowing you have some information and know where to locate more is my payment.

2024.04.28 23:44 Twiggyslims My Dad Passed and I Don't Know What to do Anymore.

Some things will be emitted for privacy reasons. Also, this is going to be a lot; I am not good at keeping things brief, and I apologize.
For some context, my dad was diagnosed with cancer back in September 2023. The doctors said he had about 6-9 months left. Since then, I (F17) had been trying to spend every moment I could with him, trying to make the most out of the time we had left.
My dad was my hero growing up. He was a fisherman and loved the outdoors, and as such knew a lot about nature and the wildlife in it. He loved rock music from the 70-80's, and I regularly grew up listening to it. He taught me to respect nature. He was always level-headed and a bit blunt, but he was also funny and had a sense of humor. He was a foodie and was always down to try new things. Some of my best memories were when I visited him on weekends, and we'd buy a taco bell craving box and watch fail videos, and laugh at people being stupid until midnight. He wasn't a perfect man by any means, but he was the best dad I could've ever asked for, and I wouldn't be the person I am today without him.
In those 6 months, I saw a once lively person go from healthy to basically skin and bones, not able to walk by himself. My dad passed in March, not even hours after we had gotten into hospice. Ever since then, it's just been a blur of events that have mentally exhausted me. Due to family conflict I will not go into it, but I will say that my aunt has been incredibly antagonistic, manipulative and has threatened me. She took his ashes and refused to give more than a tiny urn.
I have felt wrecked ever since his passing. I've been sleeping a lot and stress eat. I have tried to turn to comforts of the past, but at the end of the day it doesn't make a difference on the reality of my situation. The world keeps moving, even without my dad. Everyday I am working on school assignments, applying to jobs and getting ready to graduate. And everytime I think about graduating, I think about the fact that I'll be walking onto the stage and I won't see my dad smiling back at me. All I have wanted is for the world to stop for a second, but the world doesn't stop for anyone, and as such I'm left marching towards adulthood not feeling prepared for it in the slightest.
During this time, I've lost friends that never cared for me like I did for them, and realized that by the time I graduate my friends will be off doing their own things in college. And I'll still be here. My family is there, but only to a certain degree; my mom is really the only person, but she isn't the most understanding in terms of how depression works. As such, she is constantly pushing me to work and exercise, because that's what makes her feel better. But it doesn't make me feel better.
Today has felt especially horrible. I have felt the most alone and depressed I have ever felt ever since his passing. I sometimes consider taking drastic measures, but don't take action on them. But I genuinely feel like I'm at the end of my rope and that my life is only going to get worse and worse, and I don't see any future of mine being brighter. All I do is sleep, cry and eat like a pig, and I don't have any motivation to change right now. I don't know what else to do. I just want my dad back.

2024.04.28 23:43 Ok_Web_1877 Review: Guy Tries to CHEAT On DRIVING TEST, He Instantly Regrets It

This is another “so bad it’s good” video, starring Chas Laughlin. Chas makes even the most objectively bad videos entertaining, and boy is this video objectively bad, yet also entertaining. This is the video where I noticed a particular trope. More on that later.
We start off with Tim (Chas) jamming out in his car while driving past the longest white fence in existence. Seriously, that’s the green screen they chose for the entirety of the drive. He is on his way to take his driver’s test, and is accompanied by the obligatory narc friend, Paul (Carlos Chavez). Typical preachiness of the narc friend ensues, but Tim is confident that he will pass this driving test due to him stealing the answer sheet to the written test and using his dad’s self-driving Tesla.
Tim explains that he would’ve passed the written test even without cheating but wanted a sure-thing because he has a delivery driver job lined up that pays…. $40 an hour?!?!?!?! For a delivery job with absolutely 0 prior training or driving experience??? Holy shit! For an absolute entry level job that is (assuming this full time) over 80000 a year. Fuck, I wish I could’ve done that in my early 20’s.
Anyway, Tim tells Paul to go do something else while he takes his written… wait what? He hasn’t taken the written test yet??? He just explained how he had to cheat (note: past tense) on the written exam for a sure fire thing. But more than that, if you don’t pass the written test, you won’t be scheduled for the driving test to begin with. But apparently not in Dhar Mann land. So if you take both simultaneously rather than sequentially, what happens if you pass one but not the other? 🤔
Now is a good time to address a major part of where this video loses me. It’s been mentioned a few times up to this point, but now id like to get it out of the way. Tim’s plan is to cheat in the driving test with this self-driving tesla. I don’t know about you, but I have never seen or heard of a single person being allowed to take their test in anything other than one of cars owned by the DMV/RMV (brief aside: what is the difference, if any, between those two terms?) and at the very least, I have NEVER seen a driving test be done in a car where the passenger side (for the instructor) didn’t have their own break pedals.
So Chas goes into the DMV or RMV whatever it’s called and Rebecca Ritz is working as a Clerk (is that the right term? Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ll just keep saying it for now). I used to really dislike Rebecca’s role here, but I just went to a DMV the other day and Rebecca’s character is no exaggeration… so yeah she actually nails it. Tim runs into his driver’s ed teacher, who is played by the asshole teacher that snitched on Devon for bad grades after Devon got literally assaulted. Teacher says that ironically his wife works there and that- wait… what?
How is it ironic that a driver’s ed teacher is married to a person who works at the dmv? Those are as adjacent as fields can possibly be… irony would be like a doctor married to a mortician or some shit.
Teacher asks Tim if Tim has seen his answer key. Then a few minutes go by where Tim tries to hide it. We move on to Tim taking his test outside. Tim is greeted by this Anderson Cooper-looking guy who serves as his driving instructor.
Anderson Cooper is impressed with how good of a driver Tim is, and Tim makes the dumbass mistake of basically narcing on himself. “Sometimes I drive so smooth that people think the car drives itself.” So Anderson Cooper obviously susses out Tim’s self driving car, and Tim crashes when Anderson Cooper makes him park the car for real.
I don’t recall having to parallel park near actual cars. It’s been over 10 years but I think I just had to park around cones. I could be misremembering.
Tim fails his driving test but is also freaking out that he damaged his dad’s Tesla. He tries to bribe Anderson Cooper but it doesn’t work. Tim goes inside to try and schedule a new driving test, but Anderson Cooper tells him that it’s a federal crime to do a hit and run… no. Not whatsoever. A crime? Yes. A federal one? No.
So Tim talks to the clerk again, and this where the realism starts to dissipate in Rebecca’s character. She gets all exasperated and starts having an actual investment in Tim’s test results, which is horseshit. They don’t care in real life. They are robots. Much less to yell “COLLISION?!” Like Rebecca does. The clerk leaves to get Tim’s test results, which I don’t understand. Like… he failed the driving test regardless so what does it even matter at this point? While she’s gone, Tim runs into his teacher again, and teacher tells him that he conveniently made a brand new answer sheet and- No. Bullshit. I call shenanigans.
Unless you are actively trying to sabotage somebody taking a test, you would not have a faulty answer key, ever. That’s not remotely convenient and defeats the whole purpose. I know they say the questions are the same but in random order, but when mass grading tests, you still have to jump around, which makes the point of the key obsolete.
This is also a plot hole, because even IF the teacher had a new answer key made, there is ZERO chance he would’ve been able to change the whole test and distribute it before Tim took his test.
The clerk comes back and is for some reason shocked to see her husband (the teacher, which btw was supposed to be a plot twist even though he literally talks about his wife working there immediately after she’s introduced…) at the dmv. Which again, like I said earlier about him calling this relationship “ironic”, how is this even remotely shocking? They are adjacent career fields.
Anyway, it turns out the teacher came back become some imbecile hit his car… soooo did he walk here? 🤔 Tim realizes that he was the one who hit the teacher’s car and tries to leave, but the clerk reveals that Tim got a 0 on his written exam.
The teacher compares Tim’s answers to the faulty answer key, and finds they are an exact match. Tim immediately gets accused of cheating, but this has more reasonable doubt than you think. However unlikely, it’s still 100% possible for somebody’s answers to be the same as a faulty answer sheet. This is circumstantial at the very best.
The “ironic” couple puts the pieces together that Tim hit the Teacher’s car. Just on cue for yet another contrivance, Anderson Cooper walks in on snitches on Tim for the crash and the attempted bribing.
By the way, this “bribe” wouldn’t even hold up in court anyway. Tim didn’t even mention money, he alluded to it, but left it purposefully ambiguous enough.
So Tim gets arrested by the security team and- No. once again… bullshit. Security would never ever be called for this. This security team uses crazy excessive force to subdue Tim. The clerk then smugly tells Tim that cheating on a government exam is a Federal Crime. sigh NO IT FUCKING ISNT. Even this were punishable you wouldn’t get fucking arrested with excessive force like this. At most, you would get suspended from trying again for x amount of time.
But we’re not done! Because this super punchable Anderson Cooper-looking douche tacks on to the Federal Crime bullshit with “as is trying to bribe a federal employee!” Shut the fuck up Anderson Cooper. You’re not some fucking FBI agent or some shit, you’re a test instructor for your local municipal government. There’s absolutely NOTHING on a federal level happening at this establishment. You can tell that it’s this guy’s first day on the job with his heightened sense of self importance.
So we cut to Tim being actually fucking arrested outside by the police. Okay, at least Dhar knew that actual cops have to arrest you and not the security team bringing you to jail. Remember Tim’s Narc friend, Paul? Because I barely do. By yet another extreme coincidence, Tim has Paul take a call from his dad…. And Paul just completely and utterly rats Tim out to his Dad!!! Everything, borrowing the Tesla, failing the exam, crashing, all of it! Tim’s dad is more concerned about the car than Tim and hopes he goes to jail for a long time. Wow, fuck you too, Dad. Paul repeats the “if you cheat you’ll never-“ and gets cut off by the police closing the door and driving away. Even they don’t want to listen to this stupid shit any more.
You know, the more I watched of this, the more I realized just how fucking bad it is. Awful. But now, allow me to be a bit more constructive.
The message of the video is “if you cheat, you’ll never get ahead.” Okay, that’s fair. So here is my suggested rewrite:
Tim cheats on both the written and driving portions of the exam. He passes both. He takes his new job, but things go downhill really fucking fast once he realizes he can’t drive for shit since these delivery trucks are not self driving. Boom. Done. How the hell did I write a better resolution to this in 3 sentences than Dhar Mann could tell in 20 minute video????

2024.04.28 23:42 broadly Final 2023 Rookie WR Grades

The time has finally come! After months of adjusting inputs and waiting and more adjusting inputs, I can post my final RB and WR rookie grades for the 2024 class.
If you're not familiar with what I do here, you can find my historical grades for WR here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Fsn5KXeegFXvQdeSrDrtO_pFZNO_lh58HB5kUkJ_O7A/edit#gid=0 The grades are posted there class-by-class as well as all together so you can see how these guys stack up historically.
This will be a long post but, if I can say so, one I think worth giving your time to. You can just scroll down to the grades but you'll get more out of it if you take the 15 minutes. Normally I'd wait and post the strongemore interesting of the classes between running back and receiver, but this time just gonna get straight to the one everyone wants to hear about the most. Also, for those that have been following along for a while, you'll see I've added the 2016 class. This was previously unseen data for my process and I'm happy with the results.
Before we get to the rankings a couple notes on process and some justification for the grades:
The grades cover almost every WR drafted since 2016 and a small selection of other guys I've been randomly interested in grading. They use a combination of competition and experience adjusted production metrics, size and athleticism inputs, professional film grades, and NFL draft capital.
The grades are technically out of 4 though it is possible to exceed 4 though nobody has ever done it. I do not include any analysis of landing spot in the grades. I only include things I can quantify and repeat year over year.
These grades correlate with fantasy PPG across a player's first two years in the league more strongly than both NFL draft capital and rookie draft ADP. They do not correlate as well as RB but it's close. I have a little less certainty about projecting WRs for fantasy and so this is built into the grades. WRs tend to score a little lower than RBs because of this.
The tiers are historical tiers (not class by class) break down like this:
These tiers are meant to be used in conjunction with ADP to provide rough guides on how to approach exposure each year. This is a crucially important point. If you miss this, you've missed much of the power of the grades.
1* are generational WRs. These are 98th percentile and up. Across all the WR's I've graded only Ja'Marr Chase, Amari Cooper, Calvin Johnson have reached this level...until this year. These are essentially perfect prospects. You should be prioritizing drafting these players any chance you get at market value during rookie drafts and then keep your ear to the ground for any decrease in value going forward through the first half of their rookie season. I've done some work on how early you should look to cut bait on rookie WRs and the data suggests that it's a lot earlier than most would think. For players of this quality, I would break that rule and look at a miserable first 3-4 games as a signal to buy rather than sell.
1 are elite WRs. They are everything you could reasonably ask for in a WR prospect but lack the over-the-top profile of the generational guys. Over 50% of these players have hit at least one WR1 season (PPG, I always use PPG). With a couple more (Garrett Wilson and Drake London), I suspect it's only a matter of time. These again are priority buys who you're always targeting at cost in rookie drafts and want as much exposure as possible when ADP places them in the late 1st, early 2nd especially. I don't know if I'd look to buy given a very poor first 4 games, but would at least kick tires to see if the price had sufficiently dropped. Usually it does not.
2 are upside WRs. These are still players you usually target in rookie drafts but typically are flawed in one way or another whether it be relatively poor draft capital, incomplete production profile, relatively limited physical traits/abilities, or a bit of multiple things. This is where we see the first hit rate cliff but there are still multiple multi-year WR1s here. Sometimes guys in this tier end up going mid-2nd or later in rookie drafts. When that happens, you want an enormous exposure.
3 are "draftable" WRs. These are the players you look to take dart throws on in round 3 and 4 of rookie drafts. "Draftable" does not mean "draftable at any price" and these guys often do end up overpriced (Laquon Treadwell, Henry Ruggs, Terrace Marshall, Denzel Mims, etc.). That said, the best use of this tier is to identify your late round dart throw types.
4 are avoid WRs. These are poor WR prospects who in some cases have enough going on in their profile to get pushed into the 2nd or even 1st round of rookie drafts (Dante Pettis, Mecole Hardman, Parris Campbell, Kadarius Toney, Andy Isabella). These are always avoids at that price and are not favored as late round dart throws compared with previous tiers. There are very few hits in the history of this tier.
5 are ignore WRs. These are players that you just do not bother with at all. They are deeply flawed prospects that have very few hits since 2016. If you want to try finding the next Puka Nacua, I would suggest looking in the tiers above.
Now on to some generalities about the class:

about this class in historical context where I glowed about this class. Well that was before the NFL draft, film grade adjustments, and a final sweep of the math to make sure everything was correct. After all of this, I ended up lower on the class overall.
This is a fine class of receivers overall though not at the historic level from top to bottom that you may have seen touted. In historical context it is tied for the highest average grade of the top 3 since 2016, is fourth over that time in terms of average of the next 5, and is third over that time in terms of average of the top 12. The class is highlighted by 2 1* tier "generational" prospects in Marvin Harrison Jr. and Malik Nabers. In this sense alone, this class is historic as from 2016-2023, only one receiver (Ja'Marr Chase) profiled at that level. These two alone are a big reason whey this class comes in 3rd since 2016 in average grade of the top 12. Some would have a third in Rome Odunze at or near this level, but that's not how things ended up for me. More on that later.
Where the class falters compared to expectation is in it's depth. There are good players don't get me wrong but losing Troy Franklin from the upside tier hurt quite a bit and the adjustments for most players in at least draftable tier and up were mostly to deduct from their grades.
Now for the grades.
Remember, you can (and very much should) check out where these guys sit historically in the link I provided above. Putting these players into historical context is really a big part of what these grades are all about. Here is that link again:

If you skipped the intro stuff a reminder that these grades are out of 4 and that the tiers are historical tiers. They indicate where a player fits in with almost every WR drafted since 2016 + a few here and there.
Finally, again note that these grades are meant to be used in conjunction with ADP. "Draftable" for example only literally means "draftable" if the price is right. I am considering releasing a supplementary kind of "draft guide" sketch this year to really make sure I get this point across.

Now a few quick notes on some players I find particularly interesting:
Troy Franklin
Oh how the mighty have fallen. If you look at my post-combine grades, you'll notice that Franklin is much, much lower here than he was there. It shouldn't surprise anyone to learn that his fall in the NFL draft is the main driver of his likewise tumble in my own rankings.
I'm not out all the way out though. He still ends up as an at least draftable player due in large part to a very strong production profile and decent professional film grades. When you spend as much time looking at this data as I have, you start to notice little eccentricities jumping out at you. One of these "themes" that interests me the most is the little cluster of players from grade 2.35 to 2.25 historically who got to that range despite draft capital outside the first 3 rounds.
This is the qualifying list of guys:

This is a much better little group of players than it has any right to be given how they all grade out and where they were selected in the NFL draft. This list contains 3 massive, league-winning, kind of hits and another guy (Gabe) that had a moment in the NFL strong enough to drive a top 15 market valuation at one point.
Every name in this list had a strong production profile including an early breakout. Every name in this list declared early. Historically there's data now within my process to I think meaningfully say that 2.35-2.25 is where these elite production+early declare profiles that for whatever reason are faded by the NFL tend to populate. I'm not saying he's going to end up Antonio Brown but there is a lot to like still when you look at him holistically.
Long story short, I will have a lot of Troy Franklin assuming his NFL tumble ends up making him available anywhere near late 2nd. There's still a lot to like, he fits into an interesting "archetype" historically, and he got drafted to a spot with a depth-chart open for the taking playing alongside his college QB.
Rome Odunze
I am not low on Rome Odunze.
I think about a third of the people that see all this work will essentially boil it down to "lol he's low on Odunze". That's not the case.
He's a 91st percentile prospect for me historically. He's rubbing shoulders with the likes of Devonta Smith, Chris Godwin, and Brandon Aiyuk historically. That's very good. It's just not Malik Nabers good. I think this probably isn't a soapbox I need to get on much anymore now that it seems the Odunze = Nabers talk has died down a bit after the draft but I would say that more than anything my point here is to implore anyone reading this to not draft Odunze over Nabers.
He's a fine prospect. It's, in my estimation, malpractice to draft him over Mailk Nabers specifically. It's a lesser crime to pay a large price to jump up from BTJ or Worthy to sang Odunze but not something I will be doing personally. I imagine my exposure to Odunze will be fairly small and that it will come in exactly the spots where it's he and JJ McCarthy available and I can't trade the pick.
Ladd McConkey, Malachi Corely, Ja'Lynn Polk, Xavier Legette, Adonai Mitchell
Now these players you can say I'm low on. Their holistic profiles are just not very good at all.
Again, this is all relative to cost. I'm never paying a 1st for these players. In the likely ADP range where these guys end up, I'm going to be favoring Keon Coleman, trade backs to grab Troy Franklin, or maybe Trey Benson if he's there.
It's wise to bake in the possibility that you're wrong on a player by getting exposure to players you are low on when ADP allows. In instances where I'm on the clock and one of these guys has slipped significantly and there are no players I massively prefer, I will grab a share to account for some likelihood these guys end up better than how they grade out. Usually those situations are so rare that I end up with just about enough to satisfy that "hedge".
Jermaine Burton
I want some despite what the grade says. That's it lol. Nothing having to do with the grades obviously but a there's enough stuff outside what goes into these that I'm intrigued and the price should be right where I'm not having to pass on anyone that's clearly better very often. Maybe I'll sacrifice one Troy Franklin in a spot just to satisfy the curiosity.

2024.04.28 23:42 Wut23456 A draft nerd's take on the Raiders picks

Absolutely adore this pick. It came out of the blue and I did a double-take when it was announced, but the more I think about it the more I'm on board with it. In my opinion, Brock Bowers is the best tight end prospect the NFL has ever seen, and to get a player like that at 13th is some witchcraft dark magic bullshit and I am all on board. Bowers' run after catch ability is absolutely ridiculous. He has so much spacial awareness and athleticism, and he makes everything seem so easy. He's been doing all this against SEC defenses too, SEC defenses whose main goal 95% of the time is to make sure he stays quiet. Not many have succeeded at this goal. Bowers gets open at an absurd level, makes plays, and is dynamic as hell while also being as reliable as they come. Yes, they already have Michael Mayer who I am also very high on, but anyone who thinks that the Raiders have to play one or the other doesn't watch the NFL closely enough. Having two TE's on the field with the skillsets that Mayer and Bowers bring to the table will create overwhelming headaches for the opposing defenses, and if Getsy knows what he's doing this combo could be absolutely unstoppable, especially with Davante Adams out wide. Easy A+
Another great pick. Whether or not he ends up at guard or he ends up at center in the long-term is unclear, but I think he should thrive at either position. This has the potential to be the steal of the draft and reminds me a lot of when the Chiefs somehow ended up with Creed Humphrey a few years ago. This guy would be the best center in the majority of draft classes, and I thought it was extremely unlikely that he would escape the first round, but here is in silver and black, having been taken in the second. He's violent and bruising yet also refined and technical. Seems like he wants to murder every d-lineman he faces up against but he also plays with finesse and skill. His quickness is certainly NFL caliber as well, just seems like a Raider all around.
A bit of a reach here, but not the worst pick in the world. Glaze is a high floor player and should definitely end up being a serviceable NFL tackle or guard, but spending a 3rd on a guy who most likely won't end up being a comfortable starter is somewhat concerning. I understand why the pick was made, he's a quality depth piece and I don't see him being out of the league anytime soon, but the lack of upside makes it hard to give this too high of a grade
Another pick I'm extremely high on. I've loved Richardson the whole draft process. He's a first round talent if his coverage instincts are better, and his struggles in coverage weren't as glaring to me as they seemed to be for most people. The amount of potential that Decamerion Richardson has for a 4th rounder cannot be overstated. He's tall with great length and absolutely blistering speed, he reminds me of Tariq Woolen in many ways. I would also consider him the best tackling corner in this class with only Cooper DeJean ahead of him, who might end up playing safety for the Eagles. Yes, his actual coverage ability needs work, but I cannot emphasize enough how rare it is to find traits like this so late in the draft.
For most teams I would have given this a lower grade, but man, Eichenberg is the perfect fit for what AP is trying to build here so I'm not mad at it in the slightest. His lack of athleticism and well below-par pass coverage is concerning to say the least, but this man is as tough as they come. He's an absolute maniac patrolling the middle of the field, and I can guarantee that opposing offenses will be intimidated by the combo of him and Spillane on the other side of the ball.
Laube is another player with the potential to be one of the steals of this draft having been selected almost all the way down the board in the 6th round. He's the best receiving back in the class, and I'm not sure if it's even particularly close. He put up 295 fucking receiving yards against an FBS defense while playing for New Hampshire. The fact that he went to such a small school is off-putting for some, but I'm very confident this guy would have been taken in the first 5 rounds had he played for an FBS school rather than the New Hampshire Wildcats. Reports saying he has below average burst and elusiveness are absolute bullshit in my opinion, he has more than enough wiggle to be an NFL running back, and that combined with his ability to run routes from the slot and return punts and kicks makes me think this is an absolute steal for the Raiders.
Getting a Jim Thorpe Award winner with off the chart leadership skills and character in the 7th round is a minor miracle. He fell to the 7th due to athleticism, but the toughness, ball skills and leadership are all pretty exceptional. His ceiling might not be the highest purely due to his lack of speed and quickness, but he's a 7th round pick who I could easily see becoming an important piece to this defense and that's not something you see very often. He's also Ed Reed's cousin, and I don't know exactly how much that matters but it does make me irrationally excited
Along with having one of the most legendary sounding names in the draft, M.J. Devonshire offers good special teams potential along with possibly a role as a nickel corner. He's sticky in coverage and has a nice wingspan for his height, but I just don't see a world where a 5'10 corner with tackling concerns and only average NFL speed is overwhelmingly successful, hence why he was taken in the 7th. I think in the best case scenario Devonshire gets occasional snaps as a nickel corner and is a special teams standout

2024.04.28 23:42 deb-e-downer 32F, AMH 17 with 8 oocytes - possibly affected by Covid?

Hi everyone, For context I’m currently 32 (33 in a few weeks) and have just completed my egg retrieval Friday 26th April. I live in Australia. My amh was 17 when it was checked in October 2023. I tested negative for covid two days before my retrieval and also at 6:30am on the morning of my retrieval. Retrieval was completed between 8-8:30am. Two days later on the 28th April I am positive for covid with symptoms including sore throat initially, runny nose, sneezing, coughing but no fever. I’m wondering if this could have affected my outcome.
Three months before retrieval I was taking: coq10, myo inositol, vitamin d, fish oil, zinc, folic acid and occasionally vitamin c. I had about 3 acupuncture sessions in the month leading up to my procedure.
My protocol was: Day 1 - 3: Gonal F 250iu
Day 4 - 8: Gonal F 250iu, Cetrotide
Day 9: Gonal F 250iu, cetrotide, decapeptyl (trigger)
Day 11: Retrieval - 8 mature eggs
On day 9 I had my ultrasound with 11 follicles > 10 mm, measuring between 12-19mm. At the retrieval, the surgeon said he was surprised by my result and was expecting more like 20 eggs given my amh levels were high. During my prep, the nurse also said he expected at least 10-15. At first I was worried that I didn’t stim long enough and my trigger was administered too early.
Now that I think back to the morning of my retrieval, I remembered having a very slight sore throat. It was very cold and I did also have a restless night, I ended up waking up at 4am and just put it down to stress. I often get sick after surviving a stressful time and I put it down to my body possibly running off adrenaline and falling sick once the adrenaline has worn off.
I’m worried that the egg quality may have been affected or it may have impacted the success of my retrieval in some way. Not sure if there is any way to test this? I’ve been doing some reading but I may have my own cognitive biases and I lack the medical/scientitic knowledge to necessarily make sense of the data. I’ve contacted my doctor and nurses and am awaiting their response, but in the meantime did anyone have a similar experience? Feeling quite deflated and unsure about whether I should attempt a second cycle. I have heard that you need to pay for two sets of egg storage if you complete two rounds with the same provider. I’m not sure if I need to discard the eggs that I’ve just frozen.
Thanks for reading helping me vent and quell my anxiety a bit. I’m interested to hear from anyone who has had any similar experiences or knowledge on this.

2024.04.28 23:39 WiffleSnufflie Hypoglycemia and Vestibular Migraines

Hi there! 9 months ago I posted about how I've been having hypoglycemic attacks my whole life.
Backstory: I was diagnosed with prediabetes/insulin resistence 2 years ago, but struggled with, what I thought were hypoglycemic episodes my whole life. I had a few recorded hypoglycemic episodes when I was prediabetic, going as low as 3.0 mmol. Via Metformin and dietary changes, I reversed my prediabetes, but didn't know this at the time. Turns out my Metformin that I used for prediabetes lowered my blood sugar too much once I didn't need it anymore. I stopped taking it and haven't had low blood sugar since. Very weird considering it is said Metformin can't lower it till an unhealthy level.
Now to the meaty part:
After reversing my prediabetes, I still seems to have hypoglycemic episodes, even though my blood sugar showed otherwise. Turns out, these episodes during my non-prediabetic phase might have been drum roll vestibular migraines! All my symptoms of low blood sugar (dizziness, numbness in face, slurring of words, shaking, brain fog, heart palpitations, confusion, fatigue, nausea, etc) could have been a vestibular migraine attack triggered by skipping a meal, eating too little or eating chocolate. Since I couldn't test my blood sugar as a child/teen this could possibly be the cause and explains why I still have these attacks even though my blood sugar is usually around the 4.5 mmol. I still need to try new meds for Vestibular Migraines to conclude whether this is the actual cause for my symptoms but it seems very likely. All in all, keep looking for what's causing your health issues, cause our bodies are weird and confusing.
I thought it would be interesting to some of you to know this overlap of symptoms, especially since a trigger of my Migraines is skipping a meal or eating chocolate, which used to trigger a hypoglycemic when I had prediabetes. I wonder whether these two have more overlap than just symptoms, and might be comorbid, considering other forms of migraines are comorbid with hypoglycemia.
TLDR: Skipping a meal or eating chocolate triggers my vestibular migraines, in which my symptoms are similar to a hypoglycemic episode. Both can be confused for one another.

New Clancy Letters

On 2/28/2024 dmaorg updated with the letter that was physically sent out and a couple of new letters from Clancy with new hidden messages.
Clancy seems to have reunited with the Banditos that were awaiting him on the other side of the Paladin Strait. He talked about how there is a new resistance growing inside the walls of Dema- one the Bishops could never truly understand. His hope for liberation has never been more apparent. He states that we will march in the morning, and the revolution will begin with the rising sun.

It talks about how the writer can teach them their ways using eyes that see beyond the horizon, potentially referring to themself, the vultures, or even Trash. The reason I am not saying it was Clancy that wrote these letters is because these are curiously the only letters not signed by him.

Overcompensate

HOTTEST TRACK OF THE YEAR "OVERCOMPENSATE" HERE
On 2/29/2024, the band announced their 7th album "Clancy" which will feature 13 tracks with 14 music videos and will be released May 24th, 2024. The date was delayed from May 17th as they needed more time to work on the music videos.
i am still so sorry that we all thought it was fake and immediately started clowning on it and the tracklist.
In the "Overcompensate" music video, Clancy returned with our torch-bearing friend Josh Dun. The video opens with an icy overview of the land and sea between Voldsoy and Dema, closing in on Josh drumming alone in a red-lit auditorium. Clancy put on his mask on the other side of the entrance door, and it cut to Josh and Clancy preparing in some type of red lit green room with 3 lights that are lit, but one is out. The one above Clancy was red. People started slowly filing into the seats, all wearing gray sweaters and pants. Typical Dema attire. Clancy made his entrance into the middle of the room and started to explain who he and Josh were and what the plan was going to be. As he continued, he showed a presentation of the material on DMAORG and what the bishops were truly doing. The members of the now-growing rebellion against Dema began to follow Clancy's motions.
Then it cuts to the newly recruited Banditos assembled and taped up standing behind Clancy. Suddenly, "Clancy" passed out, and the people around him rushed to his aid and took off his mask to reveal another dead body. Clancy had seized someone on the inside to recruit new members. It cut back to Clancy and Josh having just crossed the Strait, and Clancy finished his seizing with a little smirk. It's all coming together now :)
Important things to note (and I will add more as I notice them or when other people do)
  • At the very beginning, we hear voices in German, French, and Spanish reciting the same line
\"this small eerie island has made me a weapon. we believe that we can use it to change the momentum of this war\"
  • The text on Josh's collar says "Torchbearer" in Ukranian (natn was filmed at a university in Kyiv)
  • The new banditos were mostly taped with red, but a couple of yellow taped members were mixed in
  • One of the images Clancy was presenting was this one seen on the Spotify Trench experience
  • Over the course of the video, the 7th neon lightbulb starts to flicker intensely. When the correct Dema map is rotated so that East is up, Keons' tower becomes the 7th circle.
  • While we're on the topic of lights, in the secret hideaway they were preparing in, 3 lights were lit but one was out...and they must have forgotten to close that door...
  • The song talks about "flying by a dangerous bend". Tyler gave an interview on BBC1 where he stated that he got the idea from Britain's "Dangerous bend" road signs, The Bourbaki group created the dangerous bend signal to warn others that the material may be misconstrued or misinterpreted upon first reading.

Next Semester released on 3/27/24. It opened on a tightly packed basement show, with TyleClancy singing to the crowd about what is widely believed to be a suicide attempt. Due to the heavy nature of this, before I get into the music video I want to talk about the contents of the song itself first. Tyler said at the shoot that it was about an anxiety attack he had back in college where he didn't know if he was going to make it out.
Stand up straight now, Can’t break down, Graduate now, I don’t want to be here, I don’t want to be here, It’s a taste test, Of what I hate less, Can you die of anxiousness? I don’t want to be here, I don’t want to be here, What’s about to happen? What’s about to happen?
In the next section, he sings about the event itself, and how the person in the car encouraged him after.
I remember, I remember certain things, What I was wearing, the yellow dashes in the street, I prayed those lights would take me home, Then I heard, “Hey kid, get out of the road!” Can’t feel my legs, I might suffocate, There’s a pressure in my chest, I don’t want to be here, I don’t want to be here, What’s about to happen? What’s about to happen?
and then he slowed down, and rolled down his window, And he said "Can’t change what you’ve done, Start fresh next semester. "
Now going back to the music video, it closely resembles the type of shows the band would play when they were in college. When he started to recount what happened, it cut to Clancy standing in the middle of the road at night wearing a school uniform, with car headlights rapidly approaching. He jumps out of the way over and over, and the last time he jumped he was wearing the mask he wore in Overcompensate. At times, the scenes would blur together so the headlights would be visible in the room with the show, but would quickly snap back to the original dark lighting when the beat got more intense. During the bridge, Clancy begins doing the seizing motions before looking up and singing "Can't change what you've done, start fresh next semester". Then he walks into the crowd, now singing softly, and it panned out to show they were all standing in the road where the events took place.

As far as how this fits into the lore deeply, we'll just have to wait until the album releases.

Backslide

Backslide released on 4/27/24. The song itself talks about the fear of sliding back into bad habits and bad mental states and becoming overwhelmed to a point where you feel its safer for your loved ones to "let go" and leave, as your energy is just spent and you feel in over your head. In the second verse, Tyler seems to address the SAI criticism and how it negatively affected him, even saying he wished he never did "Saturday", while this could also be Clancy regretting the performance he gave on the sub.
In the music video, it starts at the beginning of yet another cycle. Clancy pulls up to a corner store seemingly in a town called Centerville to buy a package of burger rolls branded "Ned's Breads". He takes off on a super sick rad looking bike with thick red wheels, and suddenly the music video resembles a much more grown up version of Stressed Out.
SICK BIKE
As he gets into the heavier part of the chorus he's suddenly pedaling through a heavy storm with leaves blowing hard into his face. Throughout his ride, he's being rather wasteful with the burger buns he bought. Nibbling out of one and throwing it on the ground, spending one to get a cup of lemonade from a kid, then littering on the ground after drinking all of the lemonade. As he keeps passing through storms though, they get more intense, eventually leading to an intense rainstorm which soaked the last bun in the bag. He rounded the corner and arrived to Josh grilling one burger, but realized his last bun was tarnished so he returned to the corner store. He threw the bag in a trash can with a dangerous bend symbol on it, and bought another bag of burger rolls. Then it cut back to Josh grilling his (probably rather tasty) flat burger, wondering where Clancy was with the one bun he needed. Completely unaware of what was happening to Clancy as he wasn't communicating.
Important things to note:

  • Lots of signage from the live stream can be seen, with the addition of Velma's Vapes (velma is josh and debby's cat)

My own observations so far (if you're interested)

  • the mask quite literally shows tunnel vision and the loss of Clancy's peripherals, and the red stripe is showing HIS VISION GOING RED AND THAT IS WHY JOSH IS BLURRED PEOPLE ITS NOT BECAUSE HE'S NOT REAL. His bike is also red in Backslide. I want to mention we've seen examples of peripherals going blurry during Nico's seizing in Jumpsuit.
OKAY AND ALSO going along with that, the red tape must represent the bishop's control still. notice how josh doesn't have any tape on the cover? he just has remnants of the red grown out in his hair. I'm taking this as an interpretation of the amount of people going along with a bandwagon for clout and performatism as opposed to the people going along with it for the right reasons. that's why there are so many red-taped people and so few yellow ones. that's the reality of society at the moment. those people that have the red tape are still under bishop control, they don't know what they're doing and they're just going along with the masses still. who are those yellow taped people?the few, the proud, and the emotional.

The DU8000 is the replacement for the incredibly poor CU8000. Check /TVRepair, /4kTV, & /SamsungTV for the # of issues this tv had. We cannot in good conscious recommend the replacement of the CU8000.
It has a slow processor, horrible motion handling, & poor upscaling.

"The height of the feet is adjustable, and you can set them to two different positions. The lower position, which you can see in the photo, puts the screen close to the table. The other position is high enough that most soundbars fit below the screen. The height of the lower position is 2.1", and the higher one is 3.07"."

2024.04.28 23:37 PenningPapers The Insanity of "Lazy Gen Z" Kids.

Just a random thought.
I work with students a lot. Used to work at a prep center and local HS when I was in college. Still work with students now doing admissions consulting. Did I see lazy people? Yeah. Were some lazy even by their own admission? Certainly. And, I'll admit: I see a lot more burnout than ever before.
But, it absolutely stuns me when I hear people say "This generation is so lazy."
...What?!
Look at the current college admissions climate. Look at how much harder students are working now. I see kids working themselves to the damn bone. And, while there are still lazy students, some of these people have sold their souls and more.
They sit through hard Honors/AP classes they don't care about because hard has become the new normal. And, it doesn't end there. They also have to stay after school to help edit the school newspaper because they're EIC. They have sports. They have competitions. They are making projects on their own with no direction. When they get home, they still have homework and studying to do for their AP-maxxed schedules. They're writing essays on topics that often older generations say "totally doesn't matter" as if the students had a choice in what goes in their curriculum.
Side story: I remember when the teachers and admin I used to work with would pair these hard-working kids with struggling or "lazy" kids --hoping it would rub off on them. Admin just couldn't motivate their struggling population --and, of course, blamed the teachers. But, it was just insanity. They were asking the wrong questions.
It shouldn't have been "How do we get these lazy kids to work harder?" The right question to ask would've been, "Why is there a small percentage of psychopaths insane enough to work themselves to the bone?"
Some of you guys may know people in your school --or even parents or relatives-- who are like this. They live and breathe work. All. The. Time. Some of them are C-Suite types. Some are sorta disagreeable and hard to be around. I had some students who had immigrant parents who worked themselves to death to get solid tech jobs, then transitioned to starting their own companies. And... they were called lazy by the generation before them! Ultimately, they're all insanely hard workers because that's all they think about every waking second of their lives: work.
Oh, and don't even get started on the hard-working people who call themselves lazy.
These are the students who are like workhorses. But, they still say, "Oh, I'm so lazy." It worked with quite a few students like this but I couldn't figure out what was up with that mindset until I took the time to deconstruct it. It's that they know they're hard-working; but, they're just not satisfied with what they have because they'll never be satisfied. They've some impossible version of themselves they conjured in their head: one that magically wakes up early, works out, eats healthy, does a 12-step-Korean-skincare routine, networks, studies for 5 hours straight, mews, doesn't play video games, etc.
Frankly, people are already very, very, very hard-working. And, again: are there some people who are lazy? Sure! One could even say students now are lazy due to algorithmic media and highly dopaminergic activities. Fair enough. But, students are also more hard-working than one could imagine.
I guess this post sounds a bit antagonistic; but, I'm going to try to end on a positive note. I sincerely hope y'all don't sell yourselves short. Even if your application doesn't look like the average A2C profile or isn't absolutely perfect in every way, I notice you guys. I notice how hard you guys are working. I don't really have any advice for this post. But, I hope this at least helps y'all feel recognized to some degree.

My semi-mini explanatory on $F, = could run this week: Ford Beat top and bottom last week. And the EV downturn and Hybrid uptick can be Ford's strength. Ford beat: 49 cents to 43 est and 43 Bil to 40Bil est. Mostly from Ford Pro Part of the business, Revenue/Profit.
(pssht, it was never about retail sales, it was always about FLEETS.) Hybrid vs ICE vs EV. Guess who's winning out, it ain't Tesla, or the EV fam. Go ask Hertz and their stock price about it. Long charging times and range anxiety has Hertz dumping their EV's like a bad time and temperature abused hamburger puke explusion :

That ratio is 265 million vehicles to 196,643 gas stations. That's a mighty huge chasm in numbers, but it works solely because people can fuel in less than 5 minutes and be on their way and zero range anxiety. No massive waiting lines form.
Compare to EV's: 3.3 Million in the U.S. How many chargers and outlets available in the U.S.? How many EV 'fueling stations?' : 62,610 EV stations AND 168,330 EV charging outlets. A total of : 230,940 EV 'fueling Stations'. That is 34,297 MORE EV fueling stations than ICE traditional Gas Stations, at 196,643.
And that is STILL NOT ENOUGH. Why? it's the TIME it takes to charge them. The waiting in line for over half an hour on each charge to just charge half way is what is causing this problem. So more EV chargers are needed to deal with the TIME is takes to charge and RANGE anxiety. EV's are NOT ready for prime time. And the only solution is HYBRID.
I have a personal story to this: My local bank has FOUR EV chargers on their lot. Not Tesla chargers, the lesser cooler ones, and seemingly less reliable ones. STILL EVERYTIME I go to my local bank, there is a 1970's oil shortage line of frustrated ornery EV car owners, but there is no shortage of OIL this time, it's the shortage of EV stations, despite numbering over 200,000 outlets to fuel from( more than gas ice gas stations), there are not enough to help lower the wait time it takes to charge up, some outside their cars with their doors open, WAITING, all pissy and ornery on being able to EV fuel their vehicle.
Next time you see a fleet of Amazon Delivery vans, COUNT how many are Ford vans. ; ) Then look to see how many Tesla's , Rivian, or BYD or whatever EV brand you can think of of Amazon fleet vans you'll find.
Hertz renters frowny faced Tesla's because of their:
  1. Long Fill up Time, 30 minutes to only fill up halfway.
  2. Range Anxiety.
None of which are issues with Hybrid, or ICE.
Ford's last ER was stellar:

A driver that never gets tired installed in every Ford Fleet vehicle to supplement the tired groggy driver, or even replace him or her.
