2024.03.04 17:33 Tomfour Comfiest Movie Theater

I recently saw Dune 2 at the Regal Short Pump iMax (LieMax). The movie was great, and the visuals & audio were on point. However, at about a 3hr runtime it's a pretty long movie with no intermission, and in a packed theater I found sitting there to get a little uncomfortable towards the end. The seats don't recline, and you don't really get an arm rest since there is only 1 between each seat. Thought it was kinda warm too. I guess I'm too used to watching stuff in the comfort of home.
So, what would y'all say is the comfiest theater in the Richmond area? Would love somewhere with seats that recline, and a huge bonus would be any sort of foot rest. Would love to hear about potential audio & visual differences to the iMax too.
So far the ones that are leading for me to try are the CineBistro in Stony Point (looks like the seats recline with leg rests) and the Cineme Cafe in Chester (it looks like they have normal theaters and Dolby Atmos theaters, which I've never heard of until now so would love any info on the difference with these too).
Thanks!

2024.02.11 04:53 Fleasees Movie tavern off of Mansell at North point

I don't go to the movies much any more, but today my partner and I went to that movie tavern over by North point (next to Barnes and Noble) where the old AMC used to be. I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice it was! So much better than Avalon or Halcyon's Cine bistro. I know going to the movies is not as popular as it used to be but that place was so cool.

2023.12.10 01:29 FiveStringRumble Best Movie Theater lately?

Wanting to catch a movie tomorrow afternoon but haven’t been in awhile….is the AMC 12 in the Sarasota Square mall still ok? I used to love it but it’s been a couple of years…are the seats ok, sound not turned down too low or anything? I know Regal 11 downtown is upgraded and pretty nice, but might do AMC if it’s in good shape. Also used to love CineBistro but their upgraded seats are freaking painful.
Going to see Godzilla Minus One, want some decent sound.

2023.07.30 12:52 joyfulpunner Barbie Movie Life-sized Box?

This is SO random, but is anyone aware of a theater showing Barbie movie in the RVA metro area that has one of those life-sized Barbie boxes in the lobby?
I went to see it last night at CineBistro (big splurge) and all they had was some Barbie logo wallpaper (with bad lighting). Great movie experience, but disappointing promotional stuff in lobby.
I just want to go take a picture with a big Barbie box like so many of my friends in other cities have been doing 💖

2023.06.13 12:14 MeghanClickYourHeels When did all the fun stuff in America go upscale? By Henry Grabar.

Slate, June 12, 2023.
Casinos, skiing, going to the movies … only if you can afford it. https://slate.com/business/2023/06/skiing-movie-theaters-casinos-amusement-parks-prices-upscale-leisure-industry.html
The head of Caesars Entertainment, which owns a number of casinos and hotels on the Las Vegas Strip, made a revealing comment on a call with Wall Street analysts this month. “You’re bringing in higher-value customers, and we’re already full,” said CEO Tom Reeg, according to the Wall Street Journal. “You’re kicking out the lowest end. I see no reason that needs to stop or would stop.”
Las Vegas is leaving its everyman reputation behind. Fewer people visited in 2022 than in 2019, but gambling revenue rose by more than 25 percent. Hotel rooms, concerts, and restaurants have also gotten more expensive. And blackjack losses—that is, revenue from the game—neared $1 billion last year, the highest number since 2007, despite a reduced number of tables. Minimum bets have gone up; payouts for winning hands have gone down. Truly, for a loser, Las Vegas is the meanest town on earth.
It’s not that we ought to ensure lower-income Americans have equitable access to Vegas craps tables; states have made sure that there are ever-more opportunities to gamble away your paycheck closer to home. But the gentrification of casinos is part of a larger trend in which whole segments of the leisure, hospitality, and consumer goods industries have recalibrated to serve a smaller, richer clientele.
Consider Six Flags: A recent profile, also in the Wall Street Journal, recounts the theme-park operator’s effort to justify higher prices with family-focused attractions, tastier food, VIP lounges with air conditioning, and better “streetmosphere,” including trees and sitting areas. In 2022, the parks’ admission price rose by 25 percent, and visitor spending rose by 22 percent, even as attendance fell by 26 percent. So far this year, customer daily spending is above $80 a person, almost twice what it was in 2019.
Something similar is happening with movie theaters, which have embraced perks from reclining chairs to dynamically priced seats to full meals to lure Americans away from their streaming services. This phenomenon is not confined to New York and Los Angeles; CMX CineBistro, to take one new offering, has locations in Cincinnati, Richmond, and Raleigh.
Having a good time, from Spider-Man to snowboarding, is getting more expensive and exclusive.
Obviously, companies across the economy have been charging more over the last few years. What may have begun as a response to supply-chain shortages and a tight labor market now seems to have outpaced input costs, as companies as different as Pepsi, Home Depot, Wingstop, and Procter and Gamble continue to raise prices. Investment analyst Sam Rines calls this the “price over volume” strategy—instead of selling more stuff, focusing on selling for more money. PepsiCo CEO Ramon Laguarta recently argued that his firm was “trying to create brands that can stand for higher value to consumers and consumers are willing to pay more for our brands.” It’s working: By one measure, corporate profits hit a 70-year high last year. Whether the price inflation is a result of supply bottlenecks, wages, the war in Ukraine, or corporate greed is a matter of debate.

2023.04.04 23:27 OHKID CineBistro at Liberty Center is Closed?

It looks very closed. There’s some signs on the outside to the left side when looking from the street that says it’s turning into “In The Game”? Idk. Suburbs being suburban.
Anyways, do you guys know if it really is closed, if it is renovating into a new co cent, or what’s going on?

Salut tout le monde! Long time French Parisian, I wanted to share my own insights in an evolving post to guide people new to the city, staying only for a few days or planning to live here for a while, and interested by the other side of the postcard.
First, to get a general understanding of the city read Paris Voyage wiki. This post doesn't aim at being a full guide on Paris but a selection of alternative or less touristic things to do, thus no mention of the famous landmarks, museums, parks or iconic residential areas, which are all over the internet. NB: websites in English are promoted when they exist with the mention "(en)".

2019.06.17 22:36 bluurrgg Anyone want to see The Secret Life of Pets 2 tonight? Was thinking around 8 E62nd street

Hey all! This is a little late but I was wondering if anyone in Midtown East would like to go with me (19m) to see The Secret Life of Pets 2. I know it's a little childish but I've always loved cartoons, I think they're a little bit of innocent fun. I was thinking of the CMX CineBistro on 62nd. Tickets are 20$ for adults on fandango

2019.02.21 23:34 NemoEsq Anyone else keeps a list of all the movies they've seen in theaters?

Am I just OCD or insane? Anyone else keep track of things like the movies they've watched? Wife and I have kept stubs for every movie we ever saw together in the last 13.5 years, so I have a list of every movie I've paid to see in theaters since. For example, Alita was movie #82 we saw at CineBistro - our favorite theater to frequent. I have documented 149 movies in movie theaters, from September 23, 2005 to February 15, 2019. While that sounds like it averages at 11 movies a year, it's actually not that way. We watched 31 movies in theaters in 2018. So far have watched 8 movies in 2019. Etc.
Anyone else?

We'll provide card-making supplies. We'll also have more info on ways that you can find an LGBTQ prisoner penpal if you want.
