Interested in computers, I don't really have any knowledge about cyber security tho. Obv they will train you and everything. 20, huge loser, went in and signed all my documents, all I need to do now is the real asvab then go to MEPS. I already planned on joining after watching some bct videos. Again huge loser, I have nothing going for me, life is pretty shit rn. Dropped out college and wasted tens of thousands of dollars so add broke to the list. Don't have any skills either.

So I got my RG35XX-H a few weeks ago. Been loving it. Decided to go down the CFW route. Did some research, figured I would try out the Batocera v40 option because I’m a sucker for pretty UI.
I hadn’t turned on my device in… maybe 3 days or so. But I had “fully charged” it right before I had quit using it. I use quotes there because even when I would leave it to charge overnight, I would turn it on and it would say that it’s only 68% charged. I saw that the FW is what determines battery percent and that some people had disconnected the battery and reconnected to get a proper reading. But I didn’t have a hex key small enough, so I figured I would wait until I had the FW sorted.
So, last night I download the Batocera image. I stupidly just copy/paste the folders on the default SD Card rather than making a back up image. I format the card using Fat32 GUI Formatter and flash the image using Win32 DiskImager.
I put the SD Card back into the device and… nothing. Won’t power on, won’t show anything on the screen, just literally nothing. So I plugged it in and saw that it had a charging light. I let it charge for a bit (maybe 15 minutes) and kept it plugged in and tried to turn it on. Nothing.
So I take the card out and I plugged it into my computer. Computer says initially that it “doesn’t recognize” it. Eventually it shows up as a “20 MB” location. Yes, MB not GB. So, I look in Disk Management and I can see that Batocera has created a 4GB partition and there’s a like 512 MB “Share” partition and then there’s 53GB of unallocated space.
I go back to File Explorer and now I can see the 4GB Batocera partition. I open it up. It looks like there are files there. So I’m like, did I mess up the flash somehow? So I use MiniTools Free to wipe all the partitions and format as FAT32. Then I use Rufus to flash the image. (Thought maybe something was just up with the program or settings or something.) Try again in my system, same result.
So now I’m like, well I know I don’t have the original image, but I guess I’ll try to copy/paste the folders and see what happens. Did that didn’t work. So my last attempt was this morning. I saw that sometimes the system gets confused and is actually fully uncharged. So I left it charging overnight. When I woke up, the charging indicator light was completely off. I then tried the Batocera image one more time. This time though, I saw on this sub that sometimes you need to press the “Reset” button before trying to power on. So I did that. Still nothing.
I’m currently unzipping the original firmware that I downloaded directly from the Anbernic website to try and rebuild this SD Card back to how it originally was, but I just don’t understand how I’m continuing to get nothing. Like, the battery has to be charging even if there’s no OS on it, right? I just cannot fathom how the battery could still be potentially dead, but I also don’t know what is happening to cause it to just do nothing at all.
I know that’s a lot of text, but any thoughts, ideas, or comments would be massively appreciate.

The first time I saw this girl was probably around 2 weeks into the beginning of the school year. It was the end of the day and the bus that takes the kids from my early college to the high school was there parked at the front of the main gate. I looked at the bus and noticed a girl already there sitting even though. As I was looking at her I couldn’t note but see how pretty she was. I stared at her for a little bit then looked away knowing in my head i’ll probably never talk to her or she’s probably got a bf. The same thing would happen again a few times see her stare a bit look away. Eventually the bus would stop coming on time, and one day I saw her up close by the side of the gate and stared. She was talking to one of her friends and in my head i just said “damn she’s bad as fuck.” Anyways fast forward near the end of March I guess she’d noticed that I was always looking at her and the quick glances i’d take at her cause here’s what she did next. It was a friday afternoon and school was finally over. I was walking to the door and as I opened it I saw her standing right where I usually stand where I wait for my mom to pick me up at the end of the day, it’s very close to where she stands at the gate. Anyways I see her standing there and she was staring at the door with a smile as if she was waiting for someone. She sees me and stares and her smile gets even bigger. I didn’t think much about it and just pulled my phone out and doomscroll my chronically online tt posts and look up after a bit. I look around she’s like 2 feet away from me standing there smiling at me still I look at her for a bit seeing her just stare at me while she smiles at me I then just look down back on my phone and keep scrolling not thinking why she’s just there. I look up again and I see her still looking at me. Look up for a third time she’s still standing and staring with her pretty smile. Finally the bus comes and I look up again she’d prob been standing there for like 5-10 mins staring at me and this time she has the shocked sad face of disappointment. When the bus left I thought why she was just staring at me. It then hit and i realized how much of a dumbass I was and realized that she wanted me to talk to her and i’m just like holy shit I’m an idiot. Anyways 2 weeks later my mom picks me up and takes me back to her office and i’m staring at her computer which had the schools district website page. As i’m there staring at the computer screen seeing what events where happening or had happened I see a photo of a group of girls and see a familiar face, it was the girl that tried getting me to talk to her. In my head i’m like damn I sold. The next week and a half I purposely tried to look at her at her hoping maybe she’d notice that I’d be looking at her again, she did. Her second attempt at her trying to get me talking to her, she had put herself close to me again not as close but still close and was staring at me again. I noticed her staring and instantly pussied out. “Holy fuck she’s actually looking at me.” I pretended she wasn’t there and looked at the other direction and had sold again. The third time I was scrolling on my phone again and she was right there infront of me again I didn’t realize till I looked up seeing if my mom was there to pick me up, and boom she was right infront of me again staring. See her staring again I got nervous and looked down on my phone. Looked up again to see if she was staring and yup what do you know she still was. So that was that for a while until recently a few weeks ago I put myself near a bench that’s right infront of the gate where she stands. I wasn’t looking at her cuz I was faced slightly away from her. She was staring at me but I just pretended I didn’t see her. One of my hbs came up to me and I broke that blank robot face I usually have, in the corner of my eye i’m like 80% sure she smiled once she saw me smile and talk to my hb. The week after that on monday I was looking around for her and see her at the side of my eye. She was with one of her friends and they where looking at my direction I don’t know if they where talking about me but they where definitely staring. Then the same week on wednesday as the bus came I see her leaving, I was staring at her and she looked in my direction. She saw me staring at her and stared at me too then got on the bus. I forgot to mention that she doesn’t go to my school she goes to the high school and comes to my campus for cosmetology. She used to be here everyday but since it’s the end of the year I guess she doesn’t need to be here everyday and only comes Mondays and Wednesdays. Yesterday Wednesday , I told myself I was gonna get the balls to finally go up and talk to her. I’d gotten out 15 mins early from class cause the teacher i have last period M and W’s takes forever to dismiss us. Anyways I walked over to the door that we walk out and the security guard stood there waiting for the bell ring to open the door. As I was waiting I see one of her friends she’s always with smiling at someone, unknown to me at the moment it was the girl who I was gonna go up too was standing where I stand at the end of the day again this time exactly where I stand, and facing the direction where the door was. Her friend noticed I was standing at the door and stared at me. The bell rings I walk out, I see her, and IMMEDIATELY walk past her and sit at the bench that’s right next to where i stand. She stands there for another 20 seconds. Her friend was sitting across from where I was sitting and she went to sit with her. My back was faced to them and I was just thinking fuck what do I do, as I was about to look back they got up and walked to the parking lot for students. My hb who I told this situation came up to me and said “go talk to that girl u like.” I told him she’s right there walking, and as I did they turned around. They then came back and I was standing where she stands by the end of the day facing the gate, I look back and take a quick glance at her and i’m pretty sure she was me do this. Anyways by this time the bus was here and everyone piled up at the gate and there she was at the crowd. I was like 4 feet away from her and her friend turned around and saw me staring at her then they went back to their conversation. She got on the bus. Then My hb came up to me and said go on the bus and follow her. See id probably would have done that if I didn’t have to go to Mexico right after school for my stupid braces. And then the bus left. Yea that’s pretty much it, I don’t know if i’ll see her again today, tomorrow or even next week, grades are due this friday for everyone and I don’t see why’d they’d keep bussing kids to a campus they don’t need to go to anymore but maybe i’m wrong. If I see her again should I just go up and say hi to her even if she’s with one her friends? It’s probably more than likely over and that’s probably why she put herself right where I stand to maybe see what would happen. I fucking sold so hard guys i’ll probably never see her again after yesterday. Alice if you come across this post on social media sorry.

I've been working in IT support for 5, nearly 6 years now.
For background, here is my current job history:
I did really well in my apprenticeship. I got apprentice of the year from my local authority, and continuted to work for ~6 months.
I left that job to go study Computer Science at university. I did this because I wanted to push for a better career in software development. Unfortunately due to personal circumstances and difficulty with the course, I dropped out towards the end of first year. This has been my life's biggest regret so far.
After University, back to IT support. It was in a school, so nothing too advanced, but I pretty much mastered troubleshooting, infrastructure, and basic networking. It felt like I could do IT support asleep, and has only gotten worse.
On the side whilst at this role and my previous one, I completed a lot of codecademy and freecodecamp, aswell as learning from YouTube resources and practicing coding projects.
Using this position I got into my last role. It was as ICT Technician/Systems engineer, and I both loved/hated this job. Part of it was to perform data analysis and prepare reports for stakeholders. This involved me using past knowledge such as SQL to a much greater degree. There were also opportunities to put some of my software development skills to test which was great.
Unfortunately aswell, this was also another IT support role at the same time, so I still had that frustration of not breaking out of IT support. It is just so easy for me at this point that it's extremely frustrating having to do it, especially for shitty pay. Ever since the apprenticeship, I have known it is dead end.
The present
So right now, I am currently working in IT Support, again. Unfortunately, due to the unexpected nature of me leaving the other job, I took the first one I could. I needed the money. A friend helped me get it, and it's working at a very small MSP providing support and doing basic infra work.
It's ridiculously simple, it's a step down, and I absolutely hate it, and knew from the start it was just about getting a paycheck in until I figure it out. I'm finding it really difficult going to work to do easy shit for low pay.
I'm back in the same zone I have been so many times, wanting to get out of IT support, and having no idea how to do it.
I could go to University again, but how do you do that without working for 3 years?
I could do Open University, but that means grinding in IT support for another four years and I don't think I can do it.
I could try a gov-funded bootcamp, but let's be real 80%+ of those are a cash grab just like the PPE scandals, and I can't afford the 8k the other 20% charge, or go 6 weeks+ without pay.
There are no level 4 apprenticeships in my area, and there hasn't been for 6 months or more. I check regularly.
I could try the whole self-taught angle. But I already have completed a lot of codecademy and freecodecamp, and have projects. I am already a semi-competent programmer, but find it extraordinarily difficult to convery this on a CV, any attempts in the past haven't worked.
It really feels all my doors are shut, and software dev isn't something I can achieve. I've though about doing networking instead as I do have an interest, but doing a CCNA and then hoping for the best doesn't seem like a great choice.
Appreciate any help, sorry it is massive :)

It is paralyzing to have so many but all basic-level skills that I wish to grow and specialize in, and what makes it even more difficult is unknowing what my passion is. All of the non-technical people in my life encourage me to do something with what seems to them "impressive technical skills" instead of working 11 hours a day in a sales job that I hate, my family wishes I did something with my degree instead, I graduated two years ago as a biomedical engineer (and low-key I regret it now). Of course "impressive" is very subjective, and I realize that those people don't know exactly what the job roles are in any technical field, so I can't build up on those impressions as for them installing drivers for a new hardware and using a CMD makes them think I'm cut for an IT position, and for them a programmer is simply someone who makes software on a computer, and since I was able to create a calculator application in C# and build a website in HTML and CSS, they think now I'm all set for a career in programming.
The thing is, all of my knowledge in: - C# (Winform and Console apps only) - HTML, CSS - Database management and SQL (MS-SQL, SQLite) - Computers software and hardware repair (General IT entry-level skills) - Video editing (in adobe premiere, and other open-source video editing software) - Graphic design (in photoshop) - Flash game deisgn (very old hobby I had) - Technical drawing in SolidWorks - Java programming in Android Studio (I dabbled into it for a university project). - Digital image processing (in Matlab, also for a university class I had).
is at a beginner level. I never gave myself the time to master a thing, and I can't figure out what I should stick to.
For a long time, my dream was to get into game dev, but seeing how competitive and time-consuming it is and judging by the lengthy learning resources available which need to be followed by a protfolio that also needs time to build, and finally hearing about how it actually pays less than software development, I wrote it off. My 2 fellow engineer friends recommended either going for a DevOPS path, or a blender 3D modelling path. Before asking for their advice, I was aiming for a databases-related job because I enjoyed working with databases queries the most, but all of the job descriptions in my country seem to require a lot a lot more than just doing sql queries, so then I was drifted away by a third friend who is a web developer, he convinced me to try out the free bootcamp called "TheOdinProject" and I'm half way in already in their "Foundation" course. And my progress pace suddenly slowed down significantly at some harder topics. Why did I listen to the web developer and ignored the other 2 guys? Honestly I was afraid that being a bit slow at abstract concepts won't make the DevOps path easy for me, and the Blender route was as dreadful because it takes the double amount of time of Web Dev and DevOps as it requires a ton of practice but with the constraining working hours I currently have, that would be super difficult to achieve. So now I don't know what to trust, web dev looks to require as much dedication as the others and I don't know if I will have the motivation to pick it up and get up to speed as before after being stuck for a while now.

Wow! This turned out so long and was helpful to write when I was feeling really really awful an hour ago. Here it goes:
I’ve been following this page and a few others once I saw information on video game addiction a few months ago. I saw my family and step-son in so many of the stories, my heart and mind was transformed. I don’t feel alone and my son is certainly not alone in his struggles. To be honest I’m scared to start this new journey, and I’ll get to that more later.
I always knew something was different about my step-son’s gaming, and it’s been a struggle since 2-3 years old based on what his Dad has told me. Here’s a bit of a background of our family dynamic.
Jake had Pete when he was 19 and never had a relationship with Mom, Kate. They split custody and it was evident she was using hard drugs and lost full custody of Pete when he was 9. A lot of his time with Mom was spent on an iPad without regulation as early as 2. Routines, locations, and security was not always present. It’s tough to think about the severity of what Pete experienced. At this time school was difficult, and Pete was diagnosed with ADHD. Meds helped a lot, and once Jake had full custody he was all about routine routine routine, healthy foods, activities, table top games nightly, camping, you name it! His passion for being a single Dad to Pete is why I ultimately fell in love with him two years later. When I started hanging out I noticed Pete playing a lot of games and not being the sporty type or hanging out with friends. By this point he was playing Minecraft after school and on the weekends pretty regularly. Jake was a good video game police officer and we still had a ton of time together as a new family. Pete is kind and very easy going and we started a great relationship fairly quickly. Jake and I agreed and often disagreed about the severity of Pete’s gaming, but we would come together and set some house rules and go on with life. As soon as we got busy, Pete would dive deep into computer games and grades would drop. We would see feces in his underwater, lack of hygiene, not getting up, laptop under his pillow, exc. Almost like clockwork by spring break, we’d have this intense struggle and Pete would pull it together for the semester at the very last minute. Pete is gifted and was always in accelerated math and science glasses, but was able to do the bare minimum without studying. Repeat for the next 3 years. Fast forward to High School he went to a smaller school in a new town and actually saw more independence. He made a friend, Dan who’s still around and is everything you’d hope a friend would be to your kid. Their bond is awesome. We’d still have to police but things were getting easier and we weren’t seeing those intense “downs” like we were in elementary and middle school. I think he was more confident and even his teachers said he was crushing it! The summer was tough and we tried to fill his time up but nothing seemed to interest him. If he hung out with friends and was hygienic we just made nudges about time limits. Thinking back I think there was one more period where we found feces in his underwater end of Senior year and gaming picked up, probably because we dropped our guard.
Summer before college I got him set up with an awesome outdoor job working on a zipline/climbing course and he thrived in Pete’s type of way. Climbing is one of the only things I can suggest to Pete and he’ll usually show some interest. Confident, peppy, excited, getting himself up. Always going back to games everyday but maintaining work, a friendship, and a little independence is what we wanted so left him alone most of the home time. We nudged him into a climbing retreat as an incoming freshman to give him a head start making friends, and a clear head going into the dorms! Scary fun times, and thought it would help. Then we officially dropped him off. Wow, so many smiles and happy tears had by all. The light in his eyes and showing us around and saying how cool he felt it was probably the happiest day of our lives along with my wedding day. The day I read vows to Pete saying I’d be there forever and unconditionally. It felt like my son was ready for his future. As we were driving away Pete said his friend gave him a gaming computer for free and he was at the tech center getting it hooked up to the campus internet. Dun dun dun.
Today he’s 2 weeks into his first summer break after a year of college. Yikes. Things are not great and that’s why I am here.
It was Spring Break (here comes the pattern) and Pete was gaming, not verbally making much sense, unhygienic, lost weight, gaming non stop. He almost missed his 2 hour bus ride back to school and that’s when we snapped. The typical what the hell is going on, you’re out of control. Pete usually cries when this happens because he knows the gig is up. Eventually he told us the truth, he failed two classes his first semester (told us winter break he did fine) and is now on track to fail another science and lab. WHAT!! We drove out there the next day to meet with the dean because he told us he was on probation and we wanted to support him. We were so worried. It turns out he hasn’t had any social interaction other than winter and spring break and spent his days alone in his dorm. He didn’t even seem like himself it was so scary. We get there and we spent two days walking, going out to eat, the typical “you got this buddy” “just stop playing games for a bit” and insert the other 100 life sayings you want to say to your kid that sound so annoying to them. We can’t help it. We love him. He was like yep I got this, nodded through all of it and we left. Three weeks later we noticed on the phone things were sounding off again, and he confessed he hasn’t made up any of his work. His Dad got disappointed on the phone and Pete said he called the suicide hotline because he was getting “yelled” at. I was standing there, he wasn’t yelling but I’m sure just the sheer reality of the situation got to him. We were heart broken, and at the same time angry. We couldn’t believe he was feeling this much anxiety and possibly depression. We always knew gaming was an escape and most likely due to his background, but this just seemed too much for anyone to handle. Again, he promised to limit himself. We checked in everyday for the last three weeks not with a nag but just, how’s it going. Did you set a timer today? Amazing that’s great you’re so close to being done!! Just trying to keep it super positive. We knew it was totally out of our control. He failed, and actually never made up the work his professor said he could over a month prior. He lied more.
We knew something had to change and we were preparing his return home. Can we do game quitter? Can we just put him right into a detox in our home? Family therapy? Healthy gamer? Olganon? We wanted to smash his computer trust me, if it weren’t for my job I wouldn’t have wifi because my stomach is in knots. But, we decided relationship first, let him set his own limits (with our house rules) and really try to get to the root cause of anxiety and depression. We had good convos, we let him tell us how it’s basically all of our fault because of the pressure, no judgement. We communicated with notes and texts sometimes when things were getting frustrating. He skirted around the 3 hour daily limit every possible way. All he wants to do is play video games, watch to tube of video games, talk to “friends” on discord about games, play D&D online, or draw D&D characters. It’s just too much, it’s impossible to limit. He always had an excuse for a screen and we were still seeing 10+ hours a day on screens. He told us he’s feeling crappier everyday by us, and honestly we’re feeling freakin awful and exhausted too.
What now? Nothing. I’m literally doing nothing anymore starting today. I can’t stop crying. He won’t do his own research into gaming addiction and does not want to change. Today we just said ya know what, this isn’t working so we’ll just figure something out in a few weeks. At this very moment he’s going on hour 9 of gaming straight. Knowing how much we tried as a family to limit this for the last few weeks. I’m still angry and it’s hard to look at him right now. It feels personal to me? I know it isn’t, but it just feels that way.
Therapy!? Yep. We tried. Back when he was in middle school and high school. Didn’t want to go back and didn’t talk much. He got his own therapist at school per the deans suggestion and he goes but the one session he’s had at home, he got off within 30 minutes and said “he didn’t have much to talk about with her” and he’ll see her maybe once a month back at school. We are doing healthy gamer coaching as parents, but he is refusing to sign up for coaching on his end. My guess is the name alone. The risk of losing games is not something he’d ever discuss right now. I swore up and down they won’t make him get rid of games lol! Did not work.
What’s dad doing? Half. Literally half at all times we make a plan at night and in the morning and check in with each other about it all day long. It’s so exhausting and Jake is just ready to do whatever it takes at this point as well. He’s having the same struggles as I am and is 100% convinced it’s an addiction and has listened to a lot of podcasts exc.
My new plan…. Because I have to have “something” or I might blow up. Now I have to let natural consequences take the lead. He doesn’t have a license, because he couldn’t pick up driving skills with how his brain is on games. We tried teaching him for two years and it was honestly dangerous sometimes after a “bender. He asked me to go tomorrow and after 9 hours I’m just going to say I’d feel more comfortable if he went to driving school and he can pay with the money he earns this summer. It j=is just not safe, why does he deserve to take my car and put me in an unsafe position? I don't have to allow that... but it feels like I am still the bad guy. Looking forward, IF he fails college....when he is home he cannot have our wifi, will contribute to groceries, phone bill, and rent. We live in a rural area and without a car he can’t work. I will not be driving a 20 year old to and from work due to his brain on games. It feels wrong. Maybe he can’t support his habit without working. That’s all the “what ifs” but rarely does life go exactly how you picture it. We will just continue to get creative and roll with it.
Does anyone have any advice on how to not enable but also let them be in charge of their own destiny? Not saying anything or giving him a sad look feels impossible but I did it tonight. J was able to pretend it did not bother me that he’s been on there forever. I think I can keep that up? But I also don’t want to enable him.

I’ve been following this page and a few others once I saw information on video game addiction a few months ago. I saw my family and step-son in so many of the stories, my heart and mind was transformed. I don’t feel alone and my son is certainly not alone in his struggles. To be honest I’m scared to start this new journey, and I’ll get to that more later.
I always knew something was different about my step-son’s gaming, and it’s been a struggle since 2-3 years old based on what his Dad has told me. Here’s a bit of a background of our family dynamic.
Jake had Pete when he was 19 and never had a relationship with Mom, Kate. They split custody and it was evident she was using hard drugs and lost full custody of Pete when he was 9. A lot of his time with Mom was spent on an iPad without regulation as early as 2. Routines, locations, and security was not always present. It’s tough to think about the severity of what Pete experienced. At this time school was difficult, and Pete was diagnosed with ADHD. Meds helped a lot, and once Jake had full custody he was all about routine routine routine, healthy foods, activities, table top games nightly, camping, you name it! His passion for being a single Dad to Pete is why I ultimately fell in love with him two years later. When I started hanging out I noticed Pete playing a lot of games and not being the sporty type or hanging out with friends. By this point he was playing Minecraft after school and on the weekends pretty regularly. Jake was a good video game police officer and we still had a ton of time together as a new family. Pete is kind and very easy going and we started a great relationship fairly quickly. Jake and I agreed and often disagreed about the severity of Pete’s gaming, but we would come together and set some house rules and go on with life. As soon as we got busy, Pete would dive deep into computer games and grades would drop. We would see feces in his underwater, lack of hygiene, not getting up, laptop under his pillow, exc. Almost like clockwork by spring break, we’d have this intense struggle and Pete would pull it together for the semester at the very last minute. Pete is gifted and was always in accelerated math and science glasses, but was able to do the bare minimum without studying. Repeat for the next 3 years. Fast forward to High School he went to a smaller school in a new town and actually saw more independence. He made a friend, Dan who’s still around and is everything you’d hope a friend would be to your kid. Their bond is awesome. We’d still have to police but things were getting easier and we weren’t seeing those intense “downs” like we were in elementary and middle school. I think he was more confident and even his teachers said he was crushing it! The summer was tough and we tried to fill his time up but nothing seemed to interest him. If he hung out with friends and was hygienic we just made nudges about time limits. Thinking back I think there was one more period where we found feces in his underwater end of Senior year and gaming picked up, probably because we dropped our guard.

More than 1,000 WhatsApp messages in which senior DUP figures mocked the Catholic Church and insulted their rivals are “not interesting or of note”, party leader Gavin Robinson has said. The messages – part of an extract from a WhatsApp group containing senior DUP members during the Covid-19 pandemic – were published as part of the ongoing Covid Inquiry.
The full extract has however been removed from the evidence section of the Inquiry’s website today, replaced with a much shorter, one-page version.
An excerpt from the same extract in which former Education Minister Peter Weir claimed “only nutjobs and ardent nationalists on Twitter” were in favour of closing schools at the beginning of the pandemic had already been published a few days previously.
Speaking at the Balmoral Show, DUP interim leader Gavin Robinson said the focus should be on the substance of the Inquiry, rather than the intricacies of the party’s internal messages.
"I’m not going to talk about the content of that (the messages); I don’t think it’s even interesting or of any note to consider what is there,” he told the Belfast Telegraph.
"They are messages at a frustrating time for people who were all doing their best for Northern Ireland.
“The Inquiry has an important job to do; it has to recognise how significant the pandemic was, the challenges that were there for public services to deliver for people during the pandemic, right across the UK and it’s currently working through one of its modules.
"I don’t think I would want my private messages published, I don’t think you would want your private messages published.
"They don’t make a material difference to the issues that are before the Inquiry and I think the Inquiry just needs to get on and complete their job.”
Mr Robinson also hit out at other senior political figures who did not provide their messages to the Inquiry, including then-Deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill and Justice Minister Naomi Long.
"Our messages were available because we complied with the law,” said Mr Robinson.
"There are others that you will see before the inquiry who took the inappropriate step of wiping their phones so you will never know what they said, but you might just speculate.
"And you’ll never just quite know how colourful their messages may have been, but it’s not the meat and drink of the Inquiry.”
Meanwhile, Alliance has said it was unsurprising that some men within the DUP had problems with women after a number of the messages contained personal jibes towards leader Naomi Long and then-Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon.
On 7 May 2020, Edwin Poots said of an Executive meeting: "I had to comfort eat during the meeting I was so traumatised," to which Mr Weir replied: "Do you think Naomi has been doing the same."

We’re living in uncertain times. Our society is mired with issues. There’s inflation, and unaffordable housing. There’s the disappearance of good, well-paying jobs. There’s systemic inequality, inefficiency, and indifference.
So it’s normal that there’s been an uptick in people lamenting the futility of daily living—not just in the usual places like antiwork, adulting, and depression, but also here. It’s normal if you too are feeling a background refrigerator-hum of anxiety, mixed with a bleak ‘what’s the point of even trying?’ sentiment.
At its core, this is all rooted in a suffocating lack of freedom. We feel boxed in by societal expectations and norms. We feel condemned to a 40-year grind of a career—our options limited to either extremes of sedentary office work or back-breaking physical labor. We find ourselves in a meaningless rat race… which is bad enough as it is, but it’s also being worsened by societal issues, making it a struggle to even keep our heads above water as we witness others drown by the ruthlessness of it all.
It’s scary AF, so… we ‘act out’. We exert what little freedom we have. We do what we want when we want. Pitiful as it may be, our endless Redditing, YouTubing, and TikToking are acts of rebellion.
But that, of course, has a counterproductive effect. The system wants us to be good little consumers. It wants us to be distracted and docile—when we’re not frantically cramming in our work before a deadline. Procrastination is a feature of our system, not a bug.
So, how do we break out? How do we reclaim our freedom?
Restrictions.
It’s a giant paradox, but freedom is only achieved through restrictions.
My phone, for example, can run Waze, a banking app, and a few instant messaging apps. That’s about it. Because of the restrictions I set—which are impossible to remove or disable on a whim—I am precisely not free to do what I want, when I want. But by imposing such constraints, I have rendered myself free from all manipulations from Meta, TikTok, Google, Apple, and all the other tech/media companies that feed off my attention.
The same notion applies in a greater context.
By rigorously constraining my day—by blocking my email except during certain times, by using time management systems like timeboxing and the Pom-Loop method, by fixing strict do-not-disturb-me-unless-the-building’s-on-fire office hours—I am indeed imposing limitations on my freedom. But this has liberated me from the infinite whack-a-mole demands of “Shallow Work”: I am free from the impulse of checking my email 86 times a day. I am free from the need to know what’s happening with Trump at every waking moment. I am free to enter deeper, more productive, more meaningful, and more satisfying states of flow.
Ultimately, I have learned that being free is not “I want to do this and I want to do that, and—checks wrists for shackles—sweet, I can!”
Being free is “I control what I want. I control what I do. I control who I am.”
Put differently, freedom occurs when your desires and actions are aligned with your values.
You, as a well-adjusted human being, value being productive and contributing. You value focused work. You value being engaged and creative. You value stepping out of your comfort zone. You value giving much more than taking.
In short, you have a strong “work ethic,” which is simply the belief that work has value in and of itself.
The problem is that your subconscious desires have been hijacked. They are no longer oriented towards your values but towards the petty pursuit of instant gratification. Your doom-scrolling means you are made to see more ads. You seeing more ads means 'increasing shareholder value' for tech companies. And 'increasing shareholder value' means some dipshit in Palo Alto can buy a second Tesla and send their kids to private school.
In other words, your desires have been reoriented away from your values and towards the values of a few others. That’s why you are so repulsed at yourself and your behavior. That’s why you feel so utterly trapped.

Just remember, by embracing restrictions, you can reclaim your freedom. You can realign your desires and actions with your deeper values, enabling you to live a more meaningful and fulfilled life. - Cut out your damn vices. Get rid of them or else use IRON-CLAD (uninstallable, unalterable) website blockers and screen-time limits. Seriously, I’ve written an entire book predicated on the reality that our tech-vices—which provide shortcuts to survival-affirming rewards—are screwing us over royally. It's a poison-drip: we don’t notice what’s happening until it’s far too late.
- Get a therapist. Now that you’ve cut yourself off from your vices—off the things you’ve been using and abusing to escape from reality—you’re bound for a torrent of repressed negative emotions and sensations. Expect days or even weeks of pain and discomfort. As I’ve written here before, you need to expect to feel worse before feeling better. Step 1 is not a mere “dopamine detox.” Don’t be that Keto dieter who jumps on a bandwagon trend without bothering to understand the intricacies of what they are doing, the impending consequences, and the required support system.
- Wait. Just be. Seriously. All of us here on this sub are constantly being told to fix this and try that. We put so much pressure and expectation on ourselves it’s unreal. Good habits are good. Self-care is essential. Positive mindsets are key… but none of that should happen through force or coercion. Let yourself be. Let your desires gradually and naturally reorient themselves towards your values. Don't force it.
- Plan—but don't expect. When you’re feeling motivated and primed to take sustained action, plan out your time as best you can. Set barriers and boundaries. Be clear about what you should do and when—but be careful not to set expectations. Expectations, when unmet with an equal measure of motivation (aka the capacity—not the will—to be productive), leads to stress and frustration, which leads to a need for relief through vices, which leads to an undoing of all your progress.
Just remember, by embracing restrictions, you can reclaim your freedom. You can realign your desires and actions with your deeper values, enabling you to live a more meaningful and fulfilled life. This journey requires commitment, understanding, support, and a willingness to endure the discomfort that comes with real change. But the reward—a life lived true to oneself—is immeasurably worth it.

Hey I’m 25 years old, I’m a 3rd year medical student at a 6 year undergraduate program. Im about to receive my b.med.sc soon. The degree as a whole is pretty worthless but from research and industry experience I understand what I want to focus on and achieve in my career. I want to design and develop technologies that will use Machine learning to diagnose and treat neurological and psychiatric issues without surgical interventions. The thing, my school, as good as it is, doesn’t give me the relevant education (Tech and entrepreneurship mainly) in order to achieve this goal. This made me do some research on alternative education path (just for clarification I have no intention of being a “regular” doctor and do residency). The things I can do: Option 1 and 2: Do another Bsc in CS or Computer Engineering, although I’m older I don’t have negative feelings to do another undergrad degree, idk if the “price per value” is good enough since it will take 3-4 years to complete. The plus side is I’ll earn a lot of knowledge of essential things and maybe expand my vision on things I can do. Option 2: Msc in mathematical or theoretical biology, kinda similar to computational biology. And maybe continue to a PhD in computational biology or nanotechnology or nanoscience. Might take 4-6 years but I think this will provide knowledgeable research experience and ML, idk if broad enough but I can aim towards that. Option 3: PhD in a biomedical engineering lab, this is also a very good option in my opinion. Really depends on the lab specifically and the things I’ll be exposed to. Also I don’t know how broad is this will be, but I’ll aim and do my best towards it. I’m asking you guys since I’m kind of in a crossroads of things- I’m open to ideas, things I should do, things I should learn, maybe another path, anything you think can be relevant please let me know. Currently I'm at university nearing the point of writing a bachelor thesis. I'm 20 years old. And I feel so helpless. It feels like I forgot why I chose to do a Bachelor of Computer Science in the first place. Writing a bachelor thesis. About what? I literally have no idea. I'm already only going to lectures because I got no life. Even to the lectures I like. I literally only go to them because I got nothing better to do in my free time. It's depressing. It is clear that I lost the *why* in studying Computer Science. Primarily I went to university to get a better social life because my school social life was bad. But seriously, expecting a better social life in Computer Science is definitely a funny thing.
I went to university because somehow, magically I expected that my life would turn around, that someone would "give" me a purpose. But the more and more attend higher classes at university, I start to see a problem: You don't go to university because someone tells you to. You go to university because you *want* to. That's where my fifth life crisis starts to begin.

Blue Diamond is 20 dollars per month, and Crown is 80 dollars per month. I got the Blue Diamond membership at first. It showed her with it too. I made another account, a fake male account with AI artwork. It was approved in one second. I then made a fake female account; it said pending approval. It has now been 2 weeks since I made that account, and it still says pending approval. This means all the women on this website have to be fake actors. There is also a setting on JPNDate to see who has been online last or which accounts are the oldest. When I asked weeks before, Yomi claimed she had been on this website only for a short time. Her oldest picture was dated October 20, 2023. Yet she has the sixth-oldest account on JPNDate, according to the website. The reddit forum I talked about before was over a year old. When I was on this website for a month, at least 10 other women tried to text me. There was this one profile of a woman from Taiwan, age 20. She texted me three times in one month. I found the JPNDate IP address and tracked it to a server in Hong Kong, China, hosted by Alibaba cloud servers. Reddit was right; the website is Chinese. I took pictures of the website code just in case. I asked Yomi if she knew Alibaba. Then she asked if I’m going to China—a very strange follow-up question. At this point, I was confused. Who is Yomi? I couldn’t find anything about Miyuki Miyamoto, only Yomi. On Yomi Instagram, she speaks Chinese, not Japanese. I started to think there are no Japanese women on this website like they claim to be. She does speak Japanese, though. I started using more than 10 different software programs to track who Yomi was. I found like 1000 pictures of an idol, WeChat model, singer, dancer, person on endless Chinese dating sites, and a valiant professional gamer part of the AI’U agency for over 8 years. I found two other Instagram accounts with Yomi's face. Another account in Chinese with an idol name other than Yomi also had a Facebook page. The Chinese account has a post about her going to Australia in early 2024, where she is typing in English words. I also found an account where she speaks only Korean on Instagram. I also found a tik-tok where someone dances and looks 100% the same as Yomi, to whom I’m talking. The part that is crazy is that none of the images are 100% the same, but the person is the same in all of them. This shocked me; I follow all the accounts. I saw the stories daily to see who this person was. Her Yomi account is just her normal pictures and atm company or something. Her Korean account is about traveling to Singapore, Spain, and South Korea. She also posts a lot about Disney toys here. When I talked to the scammer about Disney, I had no idea about this. At this point, I knew that many men had been scammed out of money for fake love, not just me. These women are real women. However, there are actors pretending to be in love. They will crush your heart and call you names after a few weeks if you don’t buy their stuff. It has to be from JPNdate Mall only, nowhere else. JPNdate Mall prices are crazy high. I am not sure if the point of the website is just for money or if it is actually for women to study English or what. Chinese women, pretending to be Japanese (most of them), that have connections to Korean music and gaming on professional teams. Man, what a hell of a story this is. This sounds like a Hollywood movie, but it's real, or at least partly. At this point, everything I say seems to be true based on what I know. Yomi told me early on that she had one older sister and one younger brother. It seems like she is actually a twin, and she is the younger sister. Yomi claims to be 25, but I think she is closer to 27 or 28 based on finding a listing of her work in 2015 at Twitch Gaming. You have to be 18 or older to work at Twitch gaming, unless your parents sign things. When I showed the pictures I found to Yomi on JPNdate, she played the victim card on me. Saying she thinks I’m a liar and she wants to break up. Then she gave me her Skype account to try to prove it was legit, and all the other images and accounts were stolen and fake. Her Skype name is Rose, with a One Piece picture. She sent me many voice clips, crying, trying to convince me that she was real. I put them in software, and the voice was 30% human, 70% AI. Clearly, a woman is changing her Chinese or Korean voice to sound Japanese. A PC gamer would know how to do this; they do it all the time to troll. Yomi told me she didn’t play video games anymore, but I found a picture that wasn’t that old of a woman who looked the same as her; she had a Nintendo Switch with a white OLED in it. Btw it’s a known fact that Yomi uses software to cheat in the Pc FPS games. I can’t let Yomi, her sister, and her idol friends scam men for their time and money. Yomi Chiense's name is Vera Yuanxin (维拉). Her twin sister goes by veravera_zhangg. Yomi “deleted her profile” when I exposed her. But Yomi is still there with no pictures. Two they clearly have other accounts with people who look like she just changed hairstyle, talking and trying to scam other men. Remember when I said the anime part was important? On Yomi's Korean account, she has a friend with whom she talks about Digimon. She gave him a Disney toy. She told me she wanted to cosplay a fox; his profile is a fox. There is just so much proof that these are the same people. Later someone hit me up on Reddit from the Phillippines and told me how the same person Yomi scammed them. How for months Yomi promise them so many things. Then when they said it came to going on the plane to visit him they said they were sick or dying or something. Yomi also made a fake Instagram pretending to be Joe Biden and sent me a friend invite. I messaged and it was so funny how bad it was on their part. I said “Yomi are you trolling me?” then they deleted their account. This was on April 6th, 2024. Yomi tries so hard but use a lot of cheap things that are clearly fake like ai artwork, bots for like at ai_u agency, and fake profiles where she comments herself and attacks anyone who calls her out fairly. After exposing Jpndate they Ip ban my address lol. Then on social media joke about attacking me. If you call out their BS they threaten your family and yourself. Just stay away from all these sites if you're going to date online use well-known legit sites. I graduated high school in 2021 and started a double degree in psychology and criminology as i was always facinated by the way the body works, I quickly realised I had no interest in any possible job post grad so dropped out real quick. Thank god for that.
After that I continued working a retail job while I tried to figure out what I wanted to do with myself. During that process I took a slight leap and started a new job in a workshop for an engineering company. I was told about it through a family friend and was under the impression it was a labour type job so I was a hesitant at first but the pay looked nice so I went for it.
Got to the place for an inteview and discovered I would be welding by using/controlling fanuc robots(!😳!). I was completely blown away by the place, it was the first time I had actually seen robots in full use. The job was more than I ever though it would be, I was learning so much every day about how the 'real world' oporated, I was taught how to MIG and TIG weld, how to write programs for the robot (fanuc not python) and a whole bunch of awesome skills. I was going in every day with this new excitement to learn, and knowing my resume was getting better and better felt pretty darn good.
I had started to truly appriciate how fcn cool and insane todays world is and how much goes into all the simple stuff, I describe it as just being in pure awe. With this new found passion, came this drive drive to actually succeed in life, It was the moment I knew what i wanted to do for the rest of my life. Mechatronic engineering baby.
I applied for the course and am now a semester in, the content is manageable but still intimidating. I feel very strongly about sticking to this and genuinely giving it all I've got, I ordered an arduino and set up python on my computer to try get ahead and understand more about how it all functions.
I’m reaching out because I want to keep this momentum going. If you’ve got any tips, resources, or advice on what I can do to really succeed in this field, I’d love to hear it. I’m all in on this path and want to make sure I’m doing everything I can to excel. For anyone working as an engineer what would you do in my position right now?

It's been a year since I launched my first horror game on Steam. Yesterday, I finally updated it with a performance patch, allowing me to call it a finished and polished product. Here, I want to share the story of my journey, the things I’ve learned, and what I could have done differently.Prestory
I have always loved playing games and wanted to create them. My first "game engine" was Scratch, which I discovered around 2012, introduced to me by my school teacher. At that time, my attention span wasn’t great, and I didn’t learn much until 2014 or 2015, when I made my first copy of "Five Nights at Freddy’s" in Scratch. I think the series is still somewhere on YouTube. Naturally, nothing exceptional, and the game wasn’t finished. The following year, I made a trailer for my grand horror game idea (which was beyond my abilities but still exciting).Then I found Roblox and its Roblox Studio, where I first encountered the programming language Lua. Using some presets and models, I tried to make a copy of Outlast in Roblox, which got massive views for its time and earned me a handful of Robux (not much, but it meant the world to me). I made even more lazy projects with large scopes, which I naturally didn’t fully finish either.
I believe my serious gamedev journey began in 2017 when I read an article about Unity development in a gaming magazine. Naturally, I started with horror games again (as everyone else does). I found out I lacked 3D skills, so I got a student 3DMax license. I learned the basics of modeling and texturing and started learning C# for Unity. For a teen, it was a challenging task. Over 2-3 years, I went back and forth between Unity and Roblox.
In my local university, there was a Global Game Jam. I decided to participate. It’s a two-day activity where you quickly come up with an idea and a prototype for a game. I proposed a game called 3x5Cell (the website isn’t working anymore, but the executables are still there). I earned a virtual third place there. Fast forward, I took part in multiple game jams and finally found Blender, which I use for modeling and sculpting to this day.
In 2020, I launched my first game, Chibi Dash, which I ported to Steam in 2021 to test how Steam works.
Beyond Your Fear
I started developing this game in 2021 on Unity HDRP (which was not stable at all) with the goal of making it as realistic as possible, using warm lights as an unsettling element. Unfortunately, due to circumstances in 2022, I had to cease development because I didn’t have a proper PC. However, I continued modeling on my old laptop and published a couple of game assets.In October, I finally resumed development with a clear plan to create a story-driven psychological puzzle horror game where each action has consequences, and there are three endings. I postponed the release three times: initially in December, then in January, and finally in March, resulting in the release date of May 13th. Now, here are the things I wanted to share with you.
My Mistakes
While some of them might be obvious, knowing something doesn’t mean you do it.- TEST YOUR GAME: My biggest issue at launch was not enough testing. You can’t find every bug, but still try your best. Depending on your game’s scale, test it for 1-2 months before release.
- Minimal Marketing: In today’s world, creating something with the goal of earning money can’t be done with the mindset of "I will make a great game, and it will become popular." In 2021 alone, 13,000 games were released. Hoping your game will be seen and recognized among all of those isn’t a good strategy. Even if some of you have great games, the majority of regular developers with their first games don’t. Always make a marketing plan and find your target audience.
- Don’t Fix What’s Already Working: If you’re working on a game for 6-12 months, your skills will grow exponentially. It’s tempting to add something big or fully rework systems. However, 99% of the time, you’ll just introduce more bugs without fixing the issue. Use your improved skills to enhance systems or art that don’t fit your vision instead of rewriting everything because you can do it more efficiently.
- Polish Your Game Afterwards: If this is your first experience, this step might not be for you. For those who have been making a game for 4-12 months and are a bit proficient, "Make your game feel good."
- Reach Influencers: Before the release, create a press kit and reach out to as many influencers as you can—100-200 is a good rule of thumb. Don’t aim for the large ones. Find niche streamers who will benefit from your game and send them a key. Generally, only a small percentage will reach back, so if you get 1-5 influencers, that’s already pretty good.
- Fix Bugs Quickly: When you release your game, the work is only halfway done. Monitor the game’s status and reviews, and quickly fix what went wrong.
- Prepare for Critique: You will be criticized by fellow developers and gamers. Often, they will be mean. Don’t take it personally, and try to sort out the genuinely good advice that can improve your game.
- Take a Break: For this project, I was almost burned out. When I start something, I can’t let go, so I neglected my mental and physical well-being and social life. Unless you are working for a publisher, you are not in a hurry. It’s better to continue refreshed; it will come out better. Trust me and trust the process.
Go make your dream game—no one is there to stop you!

So unfortunately I plan on going green, I honestly love this GPU, and it has done everything I need it to do and more. It's in like-new condition with minimal wear and tear (I've had it for almost 5 months now). I was looking into selling or trading it, but every website I checked offered a quote of $100 or less. I don't have the original packaging, but I can provide a picture (if that means anything). I'm not familiar with the used/pre-owned GPU market, but it seems like a $150 price drop is quite drastic.
I'm curious to know how much it would be worth to another person rather than selling it to a used computer parts business. Also, if I can't sell it, what else could I do with it? It's a good GPU and I could probably repurpose it for something cool and I'm not talking about crypto mining. I'm a CS student and do research so machine learning and AI uses are possible I guess, but I just have no clue how I could do that on the hardware side of things. In short, if I can't sell it, then I'd like to repurpose it, even if for educational purposes. Also, I'm equally willing to pursue both endeavors mentioned, I'm not particularly biased toward selling or not selling.

BitLocker unlocks when you log into Windows. Windows will require a BitLocker recovery key if it detects unauthorized drive access. It's critical that you have a backup copy of this key. Microsoft support can't replace a lost key. In most situations your key is backed up when BitLocker is first turned on, but it's a good idea to do a backup of your own.
