Hey, I'm a 30 year old guy from southern Germany who recently got married. I'm more on the introverted side but still looking forward to meeting new people.
I have three dogs with the oldest being 12 and the youngest 10 months old.
I enjoy playing videogames on PC, Nintendo switch and VR. Favorites are games like The Long Dark, Red Dead Redemption 2, Enderal, Baldurs Gate 3, PGA Tour 2k23/EA Sports PGA Tour. On Switch Pokemon Violet and Mario kart 8. I also Play Zelda Randomizers mainly Ocarina of Time.
I'm also an avid reader. Books like the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and the Witcher series are amongst my favorites. I also like Light novels and Web Novels where I read mainly ones from Japan and China.
In terms of Music I like listening to Rock, Metal, Folk, Videogame OST and many more.
TV shows I like are shows like Flashpoint, S.W.A.T or the Rookie but I als enjoy Medical shows.
I also watch Anime if I find something that's seems interesting enough.

Ocarina of time and Majora’s mask are the only two 3D Zelda games I haven’t played, so is this port good for a first time experience?

It’s so damn cool that puzzle box games like this exist for people younger than me.
I’m not that old, mid-30s, but I noticed as I’m playing through this game that my way of playing games has changed over the years in a kinda bittersweet way.
I’m not entirely in the moment when I play games anymore, not like I was as a kid. I have a finicky sweet spot that changes depending on the genre where once I feel I “get it”, I’m ready to beeline to the end. In RPGs it’s usually about 50 hours in. Animal Well was no exception, as I’m 13 hours in, 50 eggs deep, what feels like one powerup short of a full pack, and right about to do the final zone.
I got to that point of “I get it, time to move on and play something else” partially once I understood that the kind of intrigue this game invites isn’t (or doesn’t yet seem) necessarily like Outer Wilds, Undertale or NieR. At that point, having done 80% of my playthrough alone, I finally started looking for hints and solutions.
I kinda lament how objective driven I become in the lategame of anything I play. But I remembered just now that I did have that time as a kid where I just LIVED inside a world, turned it inside out for months with no guide, together in person with a handful of people, with Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Damn, what a wonderful feeling.
It’s so awesome to see game designers find ways to recapture that fresh feeling for new generations, even if only for a little while before the Internet inevitably lays it all bare. Animal Well rules.

Hello everyone!
I'll try to keep it as short as possible. I've been an avid gamer since 5 years old and now I'm 30. Even though most consoles passed through my hands, I NEVER had or played any Zelda games. Don't ask me why, I just don't know.
A few months ago I finished BOTW for the first time, hopped on Ocarina immediately afterwards, and I just finished A Link To The Past.
Let me tell you something.. I've been missing the joy in gaming for quite some time, it just felt like a chore. I went in as a person whose favorite games are Metal Gear Solid and The Last of Us, I thought that TLoZ will not be impactful to me, but AAAH. I can't explain to you how happy these games make me feel and I can't believe I ignored them for so long. They just remind me of all the things that make gaming special to me. It's the first time in 15 years that I'm actually doing research and think about the game I'm playing. I'm reading lore, look for details, listen to the music, and talk about it to friends and family.
Tomorrow I'm picking up Skyward Sword and I'm planning to play them all in chronological order. I'll probably not sleep tonight from excitement. And I'm so happy I know nothing about anything, and I have so much more content yet to experience.

So I'm on an adult quest to play all the Zelda games. (I posted here about my difficulties with Majora's Mask a few months ago, and I got the great advice to play Ocarina of Time first, which I'm about 3/4 done, and will return to MM after.)
I'm loving the game and finding it the perfect amount of challenging. But I'm currently on the Water Temple and it is so laughably hard and confusing to me even WITH the online guide I'm using to help me for this temple. (I only needed guides sporadically with other temples, but this one is truly step by step referring to it.)
So my question is - How in the WORLDDDD did y'all play this as CHILDREN?? Like ... I have a fully developed brain and access to the internet. As kids, did you just spend years on it, with lots of frustrations? Were there physical guides you could order? Is there anyone here who, as a kid, could get through the water temple all on their own?
I'm so curious!

Whether you love them or hate them, open world games have built a huge audience of gamers, and we seem to be now existing in a vacuum where there's simply not enough open world games to satisfy this demand. As technology has progressed, it also seems to take more and more time to create these massive games. Many devs have said as much, saying that these big worlds take time to develop and create interesting content for. Yet the consistent criticism of many open world games is they are wastelands devoid of content, bigger with less stuff to do, more copy-paste formulaic quests and points of interest, the same building or dungeon stamped across the world, the same unique number of biomes or tilesets as the previous game, but now it's bigger so there's more of it. Also as technology has marched on, so have dev toolsets, where they can easily produce assets that used to take a lot of time, placing clutter, painting shadows, building dungeons, scripting events, it's easier than it ever has been.
The bottom line though is that AAA open world games have slowed dramatically. Look at some of these franchises by release year:

Even when we look at series which used to be nearly annual releases like Assassin's Creed have slowed down noticeably, with their newer titles often suffering from the most notably from lackluster content (wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle).
If you count in that certain studios like Bethesda or CD Projekt Red only ever handle a single AAA game at a time, the situation is still rather bleak, with the time between projects growing longer and longer.
The undeniable fact is that many beloved franchises which used to grace us every 2 - 4 years with new entries have become once in a generation entries (meaning console generations), with some skipping entire console generations.
The real question though is the demand for these games to be bigger, better, and prettier really the reason for this prolonged drought in many of our favorite franchises? People are still playing Skyrim, GTA:V, Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3, nearly a decade or more later, because nothing new has come to replace them.
While there's been some notable attempts by smaller studios or indie devs to make open world games, they simply fail to capture the mass market appeal that AAA Devs can manage to pull off with a large team making an open world game. Yet is it reasonable to expect fans to wait 10+ years between releases? While the next Witcher, the next GTA, and the next Elder Scrolls may be visible on the distant horizon, should we, as mere mortal beings come face to face with the horrible truth that we'll likely not live long enough to see another entry beyond that? More appropriately, can any game truly live up to the level of hype (that hasn't evaporated) that someone waiting a decade would have for a game?
