Steam Games Crashing
Hi, I have been having consistent game crashes on steam with the following games: Crusader Kings 3, Helldivers 2, Sker Ritual, and BG3. The crashes have been fairly consistent across these 4 games and I am investigating the crashes with HD2 and CK3 separately with the game studios. However, the fact that this has happened across 4 steams now has lead me to this subreddit. I have included the error reports below for each game. Can anyone help me resolve this?

2024.05.16 07:35 believeinmountains Most docker commands are secretly async?

When i run commands like docker create, rm, start or anything else, even the surprising ones are all async but generally "fast" so shell scripts that do something like create/inspect/start/wait will usually work but under load will randomly fail because sometimes the create cli will have returned but the next command will run before the backend is ready for it.
What's up? To write bulletproof code am I expected to subscribe to the event stream and wait for the created event before doing anything else? The cli doesn't have a "please wait til it's actually done" parameter but I really wish it did.

One night, I was flipping through gacha game trailers looking at view counts since their release, and started watching GFL: NC’s Official Announcement PV. At about 0:32 seconds into the video, I noticed a QR code looking pattern at the bottom right of the screen. Scanning it led me to this page.
Another detail that I noticed was when I tried refreshing it, it seemed the letter would change. Sometimes to an F, a W, a C, and more.
I’m not an active player in GFL: NC, but would hop on when I’m bored and during limited collab events (such as the upcoming Steins; Gate collab). Just wondering if anyone else also saw this, and know where it leads?

2024.05.16 06:05 Natural_Attitude_480 IFU by not accepting a PhD offer

This is more so about an event that happened a month ago but the crushing weight of it all has set in and I want to use it as a precautionary tale for anyone else in the future. Apologies for the ramble/length of it in advance.
I had gotten into my dream program for my discipline but I was mentally and spiritually not ready. Once I received the offer in February, I was excited but it slowly turned into a deep fear and distain to the point of my chest hurting, incessant headaches, getting regular heart palpitations. My discipline is (or was) computational biology and I had begun to sow seeds of doubt/overthinking in my applications during the winter before. I somehow slowly began to convince myself I’d never amount to any great phd student and my work would be worthless and terrible if I even tried. I ruminated unendingly, stressed unendingly of having forgotten how to code and would never love it again, and that my masters and undergrad theses that I had worked incessantly on in undergrad and masters school were all worthless and built off of the work of others rather than anything I was actually proud of. I didn’t want to acknowledge I was capable, I convinced myself I hated what I accomplished and I’d be miserable if I tried to find joy in what I did again.
During my visits to the most beautiful campus I’d dreamed of for so long, I felt a deep pit of hate towards what I’d do if I was there and that I’d be slaving away for nothing useful for anyone. I dissociated during my interviews with the faculty during the visit, only thinking about how this wouldn’t work out, giving my spiel about my research, and feeling pained whenever they complimented me on how impressed they were with my application. I was angered by how happy the PhD students seemed with their quality of life. I asked them questions like “how often do you work 12 hour days alone? How do you manage depression with your work?” I explained how I worked for two years in isolation in a basement lab on two separate 200 page theses in the span of two years on top of some pubs in undergrad and grad school and was wondering if there was any similar sense of stress and loneliness. They looked confused.
This pain morphed into a warped idea of: “I’d be bettemore useful being a doctor instead because at least I could help people, be useful, and the work load wouldn’t be as stressful. It’s more stable and sounds easier! I’ve shadowed a few times, I could do that! Looks fun!”
I got obsessed with analyzing the volatility of my industry and the way contributing to this science would be terrible for humanity. That AI would displace the coding jobs, that there were too many PhDs in the world and not enough MDs. I convinced myself I hated coding. I convinced myself I hated doing science.
The PI who was interested in me was so excited to work with me, I was excited to work with him but my doubt and fear mounted everyday and I increasingly convinced myself it wouldn’t be good for me to do this and I needed to be a doctor instead. The idea that I was taking up space from people who actually wanted this spot became a mounting burden mentally as well.
Up to this point, the whole year I’d been living at home with my parents with no friends doing nothing but extra coursework and part time consulting to keep me busy so the mounting depression and loneliness led to excessive rumination on how I needed to not do a PhD.
Then the April 15 deadline. I didn’t press accept or deny. I pressed back and forth between the two options on the portal, then the timer ran out. And it all set in what I had done.
Instead of the relief and calm I hoped for once it ran out, I was met only with a deep sense of grief and despair. I informed the PI who was interested in me about what happened and apologized to him for not being able to accept at this time. he immediately called my phone. I explained how I just couldn’t at this time, that I just had too many doubts. He told me “it sounds like you just have imposter syndrome, in my 30years I hadn’t seen an applicant at your level for a while, I think you’d be a great scientist, if you still are interested we can still get you in.” Then it finally set in. I am a scientist, i need to create knowledge, not just regurgitate and apply it. I just had developed an unhealthy relationship with my work in the past and had distorted who I actually am and am talented at through endless rumination. I then told him yes, I do want to attend and he let the dept know.
In the end, I didn’t get in. The whole dept understood my situation and were willing to still accept but the head of the grad school said no. Nothing could be done after the deadline. I implored her for an explanation why if the program wanted to still accept me, why I couldn’t get in. It had only been 24 hours past the deadline by this point. Still just “I can appreciate your dismay, sorry need to apply next year.” The program wants me to reapply next year as they really loved my application but now Im honestly just trying to figure out if/how I’ll ever even get in again in a year, gain trust back from the dept, and whether I should give up at this point.
Don’t let the your thoughts on why things won’t work out dictate how it can work out for you. You don’t have to know everything or be completely competent in all the disciplines entering in. Doing a PhD is about being trained to figure that out. I have to learn to forgive myself for denying myself the opportunity to try.

I'm an 18 F, and I'm graduating high school. In my school, students have admins based on the first letter of our last names. I and some other students have never liked my admin. Throughout my junior and senior years, I was a part of the sciences Olympia, and I love it. Science Olympia is where each school has a team and compete against different schools in different events. Like code busting, scrambler, bridge, tower, and more. The teams with enough points/ 1, 2, and 3 places went to State. Last year, we went to State, and we were hoping to go to State this year. A week before we were going to regionals, I had a terrible flu and couldn't go to school for a week. And I had already gotten off the D and F list. (The D and F list is when you have a certain amount of D's and 2 F's and you can'tdo any school events until you grt your grades up.) Well I have gotten one of my F's up and was feeling a bit better on Friday and went to school excited to go to regions on Saturday. After school, when I was home I had gotten a call from my science teacher who helped run the science Olympia at my school to help tell me that I was on the D and F list again. Confused, I looked at my grades online, and I had gotten an F in this one class for mainly not being there. I couldn't help it since I was sick at home with the FLU! My science teacher told my admin about that, but she didn’t allow me to go on Saturday because I'm on the list I can't go even though my scince teacher was vouching for me saying that i was sick with the FLU. In the class I'm failing, the teacher for the class I'm in is failing me and putting in zeros for the assignments that I had missed for being sick with the FLU. Well, I couldn't go and I was devastated because i was looking forward on doing it and studyed a lot. Me and my mom and I had talked with the principal and agreed that what my admin did wasn't right. Present time my admin is still the same as she was even though she allows people being bullied and being a bitch to me and other people. I'm thinking of not shaking her hand as I walk the stage during graduation. What would you guys think? Would I be the Asshole for doing that?

2024.05.16 05:51 DeliciousSet1098 [help] SIMD reduce_sum is very slow

I have around 1 billion u64s called events in a Vec. These are converted in a preprocessing step to a Vec>. I want to apply a bitmask (called a query) over these integers, and count the number of events that "match" the query via a function called intersect. The intersect function returns a SIMD vector that has a 1 in every lane where there was a match, and a 0 where the lane did not match.
Here is an overview of the code:
  1. For each SIMD vector, run the intersect function.
  2. reduce the Vec> to a single Simd via +
  3. reduce_sum the final Simd vector.
And here is the actual code:

I have a criterion benchmark setup to warm up for 5 seconds, then run for 5 seconds. The benchmarks are run with the following envvars: RUSTFLAGS="-C target-cpu=native". Here's the result after switching which total line is commented out. 
Benchmarking run_query: Analyzing run_query time: [480.36 µs 482.43 µs 484.59 µs] change: [-52.037% -51.721% -51.422%] (p = 0.00 < 0.05) Performance has improved.
Criterion reports a 2x improvement using reduce_product instead of reduce_sum. I've gotten similar results using other reduce_* methods. (The results are even more drastic if I don't use a reduce_* at all and instead use something like .len(), but I'm guessing that's because the compiler is dropping all the work entirely since .len() is known at compile time.)
I am new to using the SIMD apis, and I am out of ideas about what could be the issue here. Any advice / help is appreciated.

Im trying to collect every single Legendary/Mythical/Ultra beast availible for great league and if they can be shiny from a raid (lvl 20) I would want them shiny. The only ones that I have found that can be shiny are Registeel, Cresselia, guzzlord, Deoxys (all forms), Tapu Fini, and Suicune. Are there any I am missing?
