Sometimes when I try to search things up and I use the "a" key, it randomly clicks something else (such as the suggested searchs). When I am on Youtube, it does the same thing and clicks a random video on my screen. Even while I am typing this, it is randomly enabling the Spoiler tag, NSFW tag, and other flairs
I would really appreciate some help in solving this, as it has been bugging me for a while.

2023.02.13 04:31 Tartra Queen of Hearts: 21 Questions

:3 I'm pretty happy with this one.

My preamble is that I got inspired by the Queen of Clubs concept from that Karolmo post a year ago - Karolmo having been an absolute fountain of inspiration with their concepts, so I hope they're not sick of me going "OOH WHAT ABOUT THIS" about their stuff for like the third time now - as well as the phenomenal non-Among Us King of Hearts concept from Foxieon last month.

The openness of both those ideas really spoke to me; the whole 'all cards on the table as we work together' angle from Karolmo, and the 'wait we've been left unsupervised long enough to decide if we keep going along with this farce' from Foxieon, cooked up something that I think hits pretty well in the middle of 'em. (i do have an idea for Foxieon's as well, because I want to see that one played out mostly as-is, but i'm still trying to settle on a proper win condition. it's coming)

Fair warning about the suit and difficulty:

Thanks for letting me talk. :D Onto the main event.

Game: 21 Questions
Duration: Until the game is cleared
Venue: TV studio
Players: 21
The Rules:

In other words...

... It's a game show.

We're talking classic game show - VS Arashi for a Japanese example, Family Feud for an American one. More specifically, this is very, very heavily inspired by The Moment of Truth (which you can watch on YouTube for some context of what I mean by 'pressure'), but just as heavily adapted to give the QoH a more active role.

Spotlights. Stage. One person singled out in the centre of twenty other people whose lives are hanging on the balance and desperately hoping that the answer is 'true'. Music blaring to help ramp up the tension. Laugh tracks and a ghostly audience playing at dramatic moments and reveals. And a host - our QoH - with a gleaming smile and endless energy to joke around, welcome the players, and stir that goddamn pot.

=THE CITIZEN

I'm not looking for a clone of Mira, but I do want someone who's intensely charismatic and charming in those stock Game Show Host moments, and then viciously commanding when the time comes. That second part is more important than the first.

In my head, this Citizen was a prosecutor. Japan and its enormously high conviction rate could lead to a philosophy that no one's honest, no one's 'good', and that society simply exists to function on whatever morals they've decided to adopt that day. The KoD had his thing about "How do you put a value on a life?" This QoH is focused "What does 'good' have to do with 'true'?"

This should be someone who's ruthless in getting convictions, from dealing in side investigations to forged evidence to bribery to character assassinations, because in the end, getting criminals off the street mattered more than 'how'. But the definition of a 'criminal' would change depending on who was involved at that moment, and the QoH got where she was in her career by knowing who her audience was and playing to the narrative 'strengths' that each mix of people brought with them.

The game may be dressed as a fun, perky show, but the dissonance between that and how lethal it is should come out in how feverishly this Citizen can whip the players up.

=THE GAME

(i lost again sorry)

All 21 players enter the studio and wait. And wait, uncomfortably looking around in a very JoH fashion. But instead of waiting without any idea of what they're walking into, the game's rules will be displayed on a TV for everyone to read at their leisure. That's important - everyone has to know what it is they're walking into.

After a while, the QoH will emerge to greet them. Ideally, this is even the third or fourth time the game has been played, and there to help her are the survivors of the previous attempts to win.

Pay attention to that wording I used in the rule about the 'Confess' button: the game ends. It's not a game over, not for the captain that presses it, but the game does end and those players are free to stay in that game as well (the same as the QoS game, I mean).

The players are cheerily led to the game room, where the proper number of seats are arranged in a semicircle around a main seat that's facing them. In the semicircle, each seat has a little screen that's hidden from the other players' view. This screen will have three buttons: 'Truth', 'Lie', and 'Replace'. The main seat will just be an open chair (no screen, no desk, no nothing to hide behind), but will have a big, red, round, dome-shaped button on a pole beside them that says 'Confess' in thick, black letters.

This is when the QoH will ask about the captain. Hopefully they used the time they'd spent waiting to talk it over, but if not, it's going to be a snap decision now. Whoever the captain ends up being will then be herded off to speak with the QoH alone. The players, meanwhile, will have one hour to sit in order of least- to most-honest. If anyone asks how, she chipperly says it's up to them to decide who's who. And then she and the captain of this team are off.

=Phase One - Set-Up

That hour is important for two reasons.

One, it gives everyone time to discuss what honesty means, blah-blah-blah, sit in order of whoever's going to be the next captain if they ever decide to replace their current one. It also decides who gets the polygraph results first, and as any proper game show knows, you're supposed to start with the easy questions first. Better to spend those on people that the other players weren't really expecting to trust in the first place. It's just a bonus if there's any testiness over that 'what does honesty mean' thing, especially if someone's miffed that someone else isn't placing them in the spot that makes the most sense (whether it's true or strategic or both or neither).

But two, this is actually the QoH's discovery period. Maybe there's more special tea involved - even if it's not as thematic as when Mira does it - but either way, the QoH uses this hour to fuckin' interrogate the captain. It doesn't have to be aggressive, of course, but it's remarkably thorough, even in just what the player refuses to answer or answers with more hesitation or answers with a noticeable resignation to saying it out loud. And every time the players vote to replace their existing captain, the QoH will get another discovery period with the new one.

All done! The QoH comes back alone, and everyone gets assigned to their seats. For any troublemakers or indecisive folks, the many musical cues and alarms exist to give some doesn't-seem-to-affect-the-QoH encouragement.

Theme song! More lights! Audience applause! The QoH introduces the first (!) contestant for the night, and the audience gives them a big hand. There's some one-sided banter as the QoH asks if the captain's here with anybody tonight, asks about their family back home, their job, where they grew-up, and welcomes the great team that they're here with today. Are any of them friends? More than friends? From overhead: "Oooooooh!" Because that audience is always perfectly on cue.

The first captain doesn't have as much to fear as future captains would. The QoH is able to get a few halfway-upbeat replies back from them (which, ugh, really, they're gonna get chummy with the woman who's actively trying to kill them?), and maybe even a smile or two from some of the other players hoping this won't be as bad as they think.

Rules are explained. The voting buttons are, too. The 'Confess' button - well, the QoH says she'll explain that a little later on, but let's not keep this fantastic audience waiting! Who wants to play 21 Questions?! From overhead: applause and cheers.

=Phase Two - The Early Rounds

It's just like a game show. The ladder of 21 questions that the players have to get through is on a gigantic screen behind the host. As the QoH reads one off of a card in her hand, it'll also be displayed on a screen behind the captain. Everyone gets to see what it is.

More light banter - as a playful lead in to question number one. Let's pretend it's some nerdy bank exec. The QoH does her playful thing and asks what it's like working with the public in such a cornerstone institution, but then gets to it: "Have you ever waived a client's overdraft fees to help them get through a tough time?"

Easy! Easy-peasy. And honestly, kinda something that makes the bank exec look good. It's easy to overthink this one and wonder if it's going to bite him in the ass later: what if this establishes some kind of pattern of discrimination later? But for now, the question needs an answer.

The captain says, "Yes." The least-honest player (as decided by the group) gets a polygraph result, and after a moment, shrugs and says, "It's true." The rest of the players seem fine with that and all press their screen to vote 'Truth'.

Music. Lights dazzle then dim in anticipation of the results. The QoH asks if all the results are in, and a robotic voice overhead says they are. There's a silence as they wait for that voice to finish its sentence.

"That answer..." It'll be milking this more and more each round, but for now, it's only a brief pause. "... is true."

Delight! Music! Applause! Lights! The first rung of the ladder of questions gets filled in and the group moves on to question two!

"I'm so happy that everyone agreed," the QoH sings, overjoyed and celebrating along with them. "That's one down already!"

Next question. More banter. "A man in your position must get to enjoy a few perks! I bet you're the envy of everyone you work with!"

The captain says, "Well... I try not to brag about it."

"Oh, and so modest, too! Let's give him another hand - that's so rare in someone so high up in their company!" Applause from overhead, and hey, maybe even a few of the other players who are getting into this despite themselves. "Question two: have you ever had someone's car towed for parking in your parking spot?"

Ooh - a bit cheekier. Basically nothing though, really. Anyone can either roll their eyes or say 'Rules are rules' and justify it. So the captain - still a bit sheepish because not everyone here is nearly as well off - says, "Yes."

The second-least-honest player gets the polygraph results and says it's true. The other players all vote 'Truth'.

"That answer," the robotic voice says, "is true."

"Wonderful! Amazing! Incredible! Two down already? I'll be out of questions in no time at this rate," the QoH says. "So before I miss my chance, please let me explain that big, red button beside you!"

And she explains that if, at any point, the captain wants to end the game, one press of that button and he's free to leave - or even to stay and join the crew! She's getting quite the assortment of helpers.

"Now - to be honest," she adds, "it's another one of those 'perks' that only the privileged have. As you might have read in the rules already, you'll be spared, but the rest of your amazing team will be instantly killed by lasers - so please be careful swinging your arms, haha!"

But it isn't like that's where the rules had stopped. She goes on to say, "And to our dear team, you only need a majority vote to replace your captain if you ever feel like it's time for a change. I can see who our next contestant would be!"

And an effortlessly warm bit of banter plays out to get that person's - the 'most honest' as voted by the team - name and occupation and thoughts on 'why do you think you were voted as the most honest?'

It almost perfectly distracts them all from what she's actually saying:

If you get sick of the captain, can't trust him, can't trust that he even knows what the truth is, you can kill him off with a majority vote and get someone more honest up there instead.

And if the captain gets sick of them, sees a replacement vote coming, or can't stomach telling the truth to so many people who are alive, there's a button for that, too.

"This next question's a fun one," the QoH will say. "Mr. Captain, you told me before that you've got a close relationship with your clients - is that right?"

Tension. Almost in an inordinate amount of it wafting off the captain.

"Yes," the captain will reservedly reply.

This is information.

For everybody.

Especially because the question goes in a different direction than everyone had assumed: "Question three: if one of your clients was taken hostage at your bank, would you volunteer to take their place as hostage instead?"

"Oh," the captain might say, relaxing. Which might be an odd thing to find relaxing, unless something else had come to mind that was worse by comparison. "... I suppose so."

"You suppose so," the QoH will tease. "That doesn't sound quite as confident as before! Don't forget: lives are on the line!"

"I mean 'yes'," the captain says. "Yes. I would take their place."

The third-least honest player gets the results of the test. There's a long pause this time. It's almost like the player isn't going to share the results with everyone else. But eventually, they say, "It's true."

The players murmur a bit. That took a while to say. Was that actually not true? Maybe the player was just trying to wrap their head around this game and those... options. But ultimately, they vote, and the robotic voice confirms that the answer was true.

"And another one - oh, you're all doing so well," the QoH declares. "Aren't they doing well?" The non-existent audience cheers wildly for them over the music. "Question four: have you ever kept any pictures of your clients?"

Uhhhhhhh. Curveball.

The captain is immediately outraged and demands, "What's that supposed to mean?"

"Whatever you'd like it to mean, Mr. Captain," the QoH assures him. "Don't forget - you have an entire team here to help you! In fact, while you're thinking this one over, let's get to know some of them. You, madam!"

And off the QoH goes to chat with a lady, fawn over her participation, ask about her kids, ask when they're starting their first year of school, ask if she's really sad about them leaving the nest or wink-wink 'Looks like I'll have the house to myself again', and what she plans to do with her free time.

Meanwhile the captain is explaining to a few of the other players that that question is meant to confuse them. Technically yes, of course he keeps pictures of his clients. He needs those for to verify accounts. And security cameras - those count too, if someone wanted to stretch the definition. And some of his employees bank with their bank, and there are team photos so - yes, it's a practically a trick question. There's no honest way to say 'no' to it. Not safely, at least. Better to say 'yes'.

When the QoH rejoins him and the captain gives his final answer, the results come in. The fourth-least honest person looks confused and says they aren't really sure what it means. They were expecting a simple true or false, not... well, a squiggly spiky line. What does it mean?

"It means I'm nervous," the captain says, "because I'm seeing the trap now. But we agreed that we'd just say 'yes' to this one anyway, so never mind what the polygraph says."

... So...

Never mind, they figure. And the players vote.

"Well done, well done," the QoH congratulates everyone. "I have to admit, we're only on question four. The hard questions haven't even started yet! Why doesn't everyone just take a nice, deep breath to relax? One-two-three - together!"

Not all the players do. The fake audience definitely does. The captain, in the middle of everybody's eyes, roughly does it.

"Now then, Mr. Captain, I believe we're on question four!" And here, at last, is when the QoH stops smiling. There's no expression on her face. The music stops. The lights dim. The spotlight on the captain cranks up in blindinh, focused intensity. And the cold, robotic, pre-recorded voice they've been hearing overhead comes out of their host's own mouth as she asks, "How young were they?"

The next person to get those polygraph tests is the mother that the QoH was just chatting with.

=Phase Three - The Later Rounds

It shouldn't be too hard to see the chaos that unfolds from here on out. Through implications, context, the players-turned-jury projecting their own experiences, and the QoH's careful wording of her questions for maximum bad-faith interpretation, people are less and less inclined to go along with whatever the captain says.

Every round becomes a stand-off.

First, what does that question mean? What is she getting at? What did you two talk about in that hour that you had alone with her? Are you trying to hide something by telling us it means something else? How do we trust that you're not just lying to misdirect us and then pretend you're telling the truth?

Second, what are these polygraph results? Is it guilt? Is it stress? Is it both? Does it mean anything anymore? Is whoever reporting it telling the truth about that? Maybe they're trying to trigger a Replace vote because they hate who the captain is. Maybe they're truly trying to signal that there's some kind of lie happening here. Maybe it's a code.

Third, is everyone still voting 'Truth'? Is there anyone who's had some line crossed that's so serious, they'll torpedo the whole game to ensure nobody leaves? No one would do that without giving them a chance to talk it out, would they? No one needs to have someone else vote for them, do they?

Fourth, what about the captain, who gets to live if that 'Confess' button gets pressed? Is everyone supposed to be taking turns kissing the captain's ass to stay alive? Should the captain be begging them to live? Should there be a Replace vote in the works if they can't trust that this is who'll lead them to their consensus?

Fifth, what's the deal with this order they made for themselves? They don't actually know each other - they only had an hour to decide who was 'most' and 'least' trustworthy, and so far, they have every reason to believe that the 'least' trustworthy on the team answered honestly when it came to those polygraph results. Hell, maybe the 'most' honest just lied better about how dishonest they actually were, and the next captain they get will be no better than the one they have.

And there are twenty-one rounds.

More if they vote to replace the captain. That's a whole new set of 21. Especially if they replace the captain more than once.

The 'good' news is, at least, the rules don't say they have to stick to their answer for who's the least or most honest. If they get rid of their captain, they can rearrange themselves based on who seems more honest now. The trick is doing it without tipping off the captain that he's about to be killed. And it still doesn't help them with all the other problems.

So maybe the 'better' news is that the rules don't say they can't get a little... more 'insistent' about the plan. They just need to hit the 'Truth' button every single time. It doesn't say how each person's convinced or that they themselves need to do it. Someone really strong could take out everybody and manage all the screens themselves. Somebody playing completely alone probably wouldn't have any trouble at all. But then it's back to having to do it without someone revenge-voting 'Lie' or the captain freaking out and ending the game.

And all the while, the music floods back in and the audience roars with applause. The QoH is delighted by how well this is going.

No one's ever made it past question ten.

=THE SOLUTION

As is tradition, even if it's only ever possible in hindsight, no one needs to die to win this game.

The broke solution is to weigh the questions charitably, assess the information in good faith, trust in your teammates, and promise that you'll keep your judgy comments to yourself.

The woke solution is to go "LA LA LA LA LA LA NOT LISTENING THIS GAME SHOW SUCKS TRUTH BUTTON TRUTH BUTTON TRUTH BUTTON" 21 times in a row. It's actually the same thing as the current QoH: "LA LA LA LA LA I DON'T CARE I'M NOT EATING YOUR PILLS LA LA LA LA LA"

That's why the game show element is so critical. This QoH - like Mira - needs to have the showmanship to draw her audience in. She's commanding this courtroom, making everyone sweat, luring them with friendly jokes juuuuust enough to shank 'em with some "Oh so your cars run on the blood of orphans, let's see how public opinion reacts to that." She's appealing to the urge to give in to becoming a righteous mob, judging those who are held up in front of them as acceptable members of society or irredeemable scum. I only didn't call this 'Cancel Culture: The Game' because that was way too on the nose - and because it loses the nuance in the threat we're dealing with in the same way that most people kneejerk-reacting to that term do.

The questions still need to be asked. Those are the rules. The questions also need to be answered - with total gibberish, if you want, but answered all the same. They're even openly displayed. And the most captive part of this audience isn't the twenty players who have to stop and wait for everyone to vote before things can happen; it's the captain who's being asked the question and can hit that button at any goddamn moment they choose. The fear of being 'cancelled' is the true threat here.

That's why it's also important for this QoH to have such a talent at getting anyone convicted: she can spin any question to sound like the worst version of itself. No one is safe from it. Anyone can be targeted for genuinely awful reasons, dumb mistakes, or perfectly innocuous moments that spiralled out of context. It takes a group effort on all sides to not become a wrathful mob, as well as to not freak tf out by preemptively retaliating in fear of the mob.

The God-tier answer is to immediately take this into a one-player game: "Oh Captain, my Captain... we're gonna chill in the bleachers or whatever, okay? You answer whatever you feel like - you know where our screens are. Kk have fun, we're gonna pass the time by punching each other lmao"

It's a real 'Whatever happens here is between you and the walls' response. Rah, rah, "stop tracking my data, how do I escape the QoH's algorithm" - truly a modern problem requiring a modern solution of... I guess, unplugging the internet and going outside for a little bit.

For sure, we're gonna have to deal with the allegedly creepy banker.

... But - like, after we escape from Murderland.

2022.05.15 18:49 Hijynks Restocking Mechanics

Restocking is a lot like the game show Jeopardy. It takes a lot of memorization, you need great reflexes, and the robots are insanely good at it.
If you're hoping to make money fast but don't enjoy the thrill of chasing down items, I wouldn't recommend restocking. You should only restock if you find the process itself enjoyable on some level; if you don't enjoy it, you'll probably come out more frustrated than anything else. There are easier ways to make money.
What is restocking?
The basic gameplay of restocking is very simple:
  1. Pick an official Neopets shop.
  2. Refresh the shop until they have items in stock.
  3. Purchasing items that are worth more than they're being sold for by other users.
  4. Resell the item via your shop, the trading post, or auctions.
It might seem simple-- buy low, sell high, it's capitalism, baybee. The following questions make restocking more complicated than you'd think, though:
  1. How do the stores restock items? What are shop clears?
  2. How do you avoid getting restock banned? How can you be there when stores get the good items in?
  3. How do you actually get any good items if robots are buying them all?
How Stores Restock
There are two mechanisms that affect the way stores stock, and they operate on separate, mostly-random timers:
  1. All the stores will empty out of items all at once. This is called "clear" by restockers.
  2. Stores will fill itself up with items. This is called a "restock".
A restock can happen even if a store has items in it. The way stores fill themselves with items is a mystery-- unless you have access to the code base-- but we do know a few things about the process:
  1. Only a few items of high rarities will appear each restock. This means that if a store can only have a few high rarity items, those will appear more frequently than a store like General Foods with a large variety of high rarities.
  2. If a store has a large number of low rarity items, more items will get restocked at a time (consequently, General Foods will usually have several rows of items, and Molten Foods will have one or two.)
  3. The lower the item rarity, the more of that item will stock.
Additionally, stores don't "clear" by themselves-- if you see a store empty just by itself, somebody's probably bought it out. They might do this in hopes that it will restock before the next clear-- a bit of a risky move since the timing of both are random. Doing this miiight make a shop restock with rare items, but if the stores clear, it might've been pointless.
You may not need to know the above, but it may be helpful in deciding which stores you would like to restock in.
How Restock Bans Work
If you are caught refreshing too frequently, you may become "restock banned"-- this is intended, probably, to stop botters from gaming the system. When this happens, all the shops you see will appear to have no items-- this is indistinguishable from when the shops clear, which is a normal part of the restocking cycle.
When this happens, you'll see people ask in chat for a "SWI"-- shop with items. If you click that and do not see any items still, you may have received a ban. There's no way to tell when your ban will end, so just check back in some odd hours or the next day and enjoy your time off from restocking.
The interval at which you get banned is currently unknown. There are theories online, but nothing has been confirmed.
How Autobuyers Work
Autobuyers are programs that cheaters run to game the restocking system, and is a good part of why restocking is complicated and difficult. For the most part, they operate similarly to how a human would restock: refresh a few of the shops, and buy items.
How they've gotten so good at restocking is because they're automated and very fast, and maintain big databases of how much items cost on the market. They're able to automatically pick out which items have the biggest profit potential and run through the captchas to buy them. They tend to run on the stores with the highest margin items: stamps, toys, food, and a few others.
Because there are so many autobuyers running around, I think there are three different strategies for profiting from restocking:
  1. Getting really, really good. This means you know all the profitable items in a shop very well, and you're willing to try to beat a robot in speed. You probably hang out in stamps and kauvera's shop. This is not for beginners.
  2. Buying lower rarity items. You don't have to fight as many robots for lower rarity items-- e.g. neggs usually restock a dozen at a time-- but you may make a lower profit per item bought. A more relaxed style of restocking, good for beginners.
  3. Figuring out robot blindspots. Autobuyers are only as good as their databases, so they won't know to buy new items when they drop, or items that are newly inflated.
Last Thoughts
TBH, I was gonna write a fuller guide to restocking, but I kinda ran out of spoons. Instead, I'd think you'd do well to read some of the other guides on restocking-- Chips' guide on Sanskrits' pet page and Max's discord guide come to mind.
Finally, these Greasemonkey scripts will make your life easier when restocking:
Thank you neo_truths and the #restocking chat on the discord for answering questions. :)

Five True Scary Christmas Stories with Mortis Media

Number One: Creepy Christmas Eve

I can’t really explain to you how weird this story is. And it just happened very recently. Christmas Eve in fact. I wanted to write it down while it was fresh in my mind and I am hoping that you will be able to get it into a video soon.

It was warm outside. We have had a few cold days here and there, but this was in the sixties. But interestingly enough, the wind was blowing and it was blowing hard. I checked on my phone and it was like blowing 20 MPH.

I had been at my mom’s house for Christmas Eve and we had a pleasant time. We were having a great time and then my mom was driving us home. We got a little freaked out when the oil light came on the car and we had to pull to the side of the road. While my mother called my step dad, I was looking out the window and I noticed this weird thing. I included the video of it in this message to you. I am sure it’s just something normal but I couldn’t make out what it was.

I am just telling you some weord things that we saw that night. We’re not really to the part where the really scary thing happened though. But this was not the last of the weird thing.

Now, we have a next door neighbor who we are positive has some sort of illegal business going on. I am not really sure what it is. I think she is either a hooker or a drug dealer. I swear to God I see all kinds of vehicles outside of her place and all it is happens to be a very little, old dilapidated single wide trailer. All sorts of weird people go there. And I have counted over one hundred unique cars that have been in her driveway at one point or another.

Well, me and my two housemates were sitting on the porch. It was pretty late at night on Christmas Eve. I was the only one of us that was facing the neighbor’s trailer, however. There were two trucks in the driveway and people sitting there in both trucks.

Now, you know at first, despite the suspicions that I had about my neighbor, I wasn’t giving this much thought really. It wasn’t unusual. However, with the longer and longer amount of time that was passing, and these trucks just kept sitting there in the driveway, the more I became suspicious that something was going on. And then, I began wondering if it had something to do with us.

I mean, think about it. Whatever my neighbor was up to, I was sure it was illegal in some way. It wasn’t completely weird to us. Our neighbor across the street was a known drug dealer. His sister lived on the same block and she was a drug dealer. A previous tenant of that very trailer was a drug dealer. It’s just the neighborhood.

But what started bugging me was the idea that maybe these two guys were sitting in their trucks, waiting for us to go back inside the house. I mean, who wants to do something illegal while three people are out on a porch watching them?

After a good hour of this, the two of them got out of their trucks. I watched once guy and in the light I could tell he was leaning on a cane. He walked very awkwardly, almost having difficulty holding himself up. It reminded me of the movie Jeepers Creepers. There was a scene after the Creeper was badly injured and he was walking, hobbling along very difficultly to a police station. By overhearing a couple words of his talk with the guy from the other truck, he hobbled the way he did because he had a wooden leg. They then talked for a while, and I heard some words and there were some looks at us over on the porch. I truly got the impression that they wanted us to go in our house or something, but I couldn’t do it at that point. We were too close to them to really talk without then hearing us so I kept trying to silently communicate with my friends.

After what seemed liked forever, the two of them got back in their trucks and played a game of musical cars. The truck that had been in the front drove off while then, the guy with the wooden leg hobbled up to the door of the trailer, which opened to let him in.

Now, this was just a very weird and creepy thing. I was thinking how they had been sitting out there for at least an hour. The lady who rented the trailer had never come out, I knew they had been talking to us… and I just asked my housemates how much weirder this Christmas Eve could get.

“Didn’t you hear the neighbors across the street arguing?” one of them asked me.

I admitted that I did not. I was paying way too close attention to the people in the house NEXT to me. Apparently they had been arguing pretty loud though. By now it was past midnight and it was Christmas day. I guess they hadn’t gotten a Christmas tree and the man and woman who lived there, the other drug dealers, had been fighting loudly about it. And then they were quiet.

And then we heard something that no one expects to hear on Christmas morning. A chainsaw. All three of us look at each other, stunned. But we were able to put some sense into it. There were trees behind those houses and we figured the man had gone out and he had tried to get down a Christmas tree.

And that was when our Christmas took another turn. We could hear some yelling and screaming again. They were closer to the house again. We really couldn’t make out what we were hearing, until we heard a loud scream of “Shut the fuck up or you’re going to be the Christmas tree!” We then heard the chainsaw throttle and a scream from the woman back in that area.

At first we panicked, thinking that the woman was going to get killed. I mean those two fought all the time and people were used to it. But threatening her with a chainsaw was new. There was some commotion, though, and the chainsaw went silent.

We didn’t know what was going on until we heard him demanding her to open the door. We figured out that she must have run from him into the house. The chainsaw was no longer giving us any scary noises. This was just some of the normal fighting and yelling that went on. Eventually the yelling voices died down, the lights came on in their living room and we just assumed things were back to normal.

It was a weird Christmas Eve indeed. We almost got stranded on the side of the road, saw this weird thing we couldn’t explain, had the weird feeling we were preventing a drug deal from going down and heard our neighbor threaten his girlfriend with a chainsaw. At that point, we decided to go in and watch Christmas movies. It was too much like Halloween outside.

Number Two: Mall Santa

Christmas is not supposed to be a scary time. Even with scary Christmas movies and stuff, it is not a scary time. However, one of the scariest things in my life happened during the Christmas season.

The Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Illinois, is the major mall in the area. They have a great Christmas decoration theme. It’s absolutely beautiful. And I loved one thing more than anything else. I loved sitting on Santa’s lap and telling him what I wanted for Christmas.

So this story is short but it is terrorizing. I was likely about 10 years old at the time. I was very happy even though the line was very, very long to go and see him. But I was still looking forward to it.

This was the year that Furbees were very popular and nearly impossible to get. I don’t know the last time that a toy was so popular. But I knew it was this time and I wanted one more than anything else.

Okay, so here is what happened. I am actually cringing right now as I am writing it. After waiting for nearly two hours in line, I finally got up to sit on Santa’s lap.

I have already mentioned how much I like doing this. So I was pretty excited. He asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told him about the Furbee. And then, he asked me if I have been a good boy all year or have I been naughty.

Well, I had to be honest. I was a 10 year old boy. Of course I was naughty every now and then. So I told him that I had been naught occasionally but I really regretted it and promised I would be a good boy for now on.

The Santa then tightened his grip on me arm. He leaned in close to my ear. And he whispered to me “I kill naughty boys on Christmas Eve.”

I was sure no one else heard what he told me. But when he told me, my whole body went totally numb. It is like my whole body got fuzzy or something. It was the single most terrorizing moment of my life. I couldn’t imagine why he would tell me something like that I couldn’t respond.

My mom came and got me after they took my picture and gave me my candy cane. But I couldn’t get that awful comment and threat out of my mind. I mean, I wasn’t stupid. I knew he was not the real Santa but I was still at the age where I believed he existed and that the mall ones were his helpers. I was shaken to my core though, and I felt kinda funny and weird for the entire rest of the shopping trip.

I didn’t tell my parents about it, though. I was still young enough to think that getting a threat like that would get worse if I told anyone. Like he would know about it or something.

I started fearing Christmas Eve coming. And when it did, I remember my mom coming up to me after I went to bed. I was not able to sleep. It was very, very quiet in the house. And I just laid there in bed, my eyes wide open, scared, wondering what to expect.

I can’t explain to you how creepy it was. I still believed in Santa and I was honest the one at the mall. As my eyes began to get heavy and I began falling asleep against my will, I was even more scared. I couldn’t be aware if someone showed up and tried to hurt me.

I was young. So eventually fall asleep. But I couldn’t get that idea of being punished out of my mind. Not even the following morning when I was tired and confused. But I kept everything to myself and opened my presents.

I was scared though. Scared for a long time about what that Santa said to me. Even today, it haunts me a little.

Number Three: The Worst Christmas

My dad was always doing some pretty bad things after my mother passed way. You know, I could understand being depressed and stuff. But he did have four kids to raise still. Instead he lost himself in a bottle and he never found his way out.

The worst Christmas I ever had was when I was 13 years old. This was back in the late 80’s. About two weeks before Christmas, dad took us all to the store, gave us $25 a piece and told us to buy our own Christmas presents. We did, then we went home and wrapped our own Christmas presents. I can tell you without doubt that none of us believed in Chris Cringle anymore that year.

Knowing what our presents were, none of us were that eager to get out of bed and open gifts in the morning. So we figured we would sleep until we were ready to get up.

Four loud, deafening gunshots in my bedroom not only woke me up but caused me to pee the bed for the first time since I was like four. My brother and I had shared that room and we both woke up in shot.

My dad, who was probably up all night and staggeringly drunk was in the room and holding a gun He had shot it at the ceiling four times.

“Get your asses up already and open your fucking gifts,” he told us.

I really wanted to clean up first, but he wouldn’t let me. I had to join my brother and sisters in peed in PJS opening presents before he let me change. He sat there with his gun the entire time.

Fortunately, we didn’t live with him much longer. One of our aunts took us in. I don’t know what happened to him, whether he is alive or dead or what. He just disappeared from our lives. I really don’t miss him.

Number Five: My Mother’s Christmas Gift.
CatB
11/23/2021
When my mother became a single parent, I was 14 at the time and the 5th child of 7 siblings. I had been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (Juvenile Diabetes) 5 years earlier and was on a steady regimen of insulin injections and a rigidly controlled diet. I was exclusively under my mother’s care, but especially after she divorced “the old man” for irreconcilable differences. “The old man” is what we called him after he proved to all of us that he was no longer our dad. But that’s another story...
When we moved from Memphis Tennessee to Little Rock Arkansas, our only brother had already married and decided to stay behind. Because our remaining household was all girls, my mother was exceptionally careful to see not only to our health and wellbeing but to our personal protection and safety as well. She taught us to defend ourselves and take nothing from anyone we didn’t know, while at the same time, always showing respect and kindness to everyone that deserved it...
We learned to understand the innate danger of being a female in the world. We never walked alone and with only each other. My mother was tough, young, beautiful, experienced and above all, nobody's fool. She taught us the same which we all took to heart.
My mother took me everywhere she went and because she happened to be friends with the manager of a convenience store where she worked at the time, I was allowed to stay in the store while my mother worked. Liability was less of an issue then. Naturally, I helped her in any way I could, especially when she was busy with customers. I got paid in little items I asked her to get for me that I couldn’t get on my own.
My mother and I loved singing Christmas Carols. But what the owners passed for Christmas music: the same 10 songs personally sung by members of their own family, over and over for 8 straight hours, hung over our heads like a noxious gas, but for the ears. It drove both of us completely in-fucking-sane. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp could have included it in “Nightmare Before Christmas” or “Sweeney Todd.”
I remember one particularly cold and windy day in early winter. Light snow had just started to fall. I was riding with her to work and watching the snow hitting the windshield and blowing in swirling little eddies. It would dance intermittently and then blow off and away like magic fairy dust. Still, I have never liked the cold even though I loved the outdoors and found myself, more than once, whimsically wanting to know what it would be like to be inside a single crystal snowflake. Even I knew in my agile young mind that this was not possible. Not so much, I logically reasoned, because of the impossibly cramped space as the enveloping and pervasive cold.
I rolled down the passenger side window and stuck my head out, trying to catch just one snowflake which proved impossible, thereby proving my point. After I began to get shivery, I pulled my head back in just as we reached the store.
After getting out of the car, we noticed for the first time,
“Like everrrr!” It was snowing on Christmas Eve.
There were visible drifts of snow in certain areas around the parking lot. My mother grabbed a handful and tossed some at me. I squealed:
“Good one!”
In turn, I grabbed a bunch with one hand, while protecting the “one gift” we were allowed to open every year on Christmas Eve: “Alfred Hitchcock and The Three Investigators: Secret of Phantom Lake, Book 19.” I had already read all the other books up to that point in the series and eventually got them all.
Remembering not to hit her around the head area, I decided to fling the snow all down the front of her coat. She laughed her little girl laugh and yelled:
“Cathy! Don’t you hit me in the face, now!” in her halfhearted order to stop.
Just as she got to the door, however, I let go of a last parting shot and hit her square in the butt. The single piercing note that issued from her perfect throat would have broken glass had it not been shatterproof, like, say, the windows on the convenience store.
“You better stop that or I’ll spank your little behiny honey!”
And then fled into the store with me right behind her. It was so cold out there, I told myself, I was afraid I might start growing snot-cicles. I remembered hearing once that some people didn’t like snow in the forecast. To me, it was cheery and magical. Cold, but beautiful.
With Thanksgiving over and Christmas Eve arrived, we had redecorated the store for the holidays. It was one of a chain of Magik Markets that were locally owned. Mike our resident store manager and close gay family friend was particularly cheerful because my mother and I had won the contest for the best-decorated store. He was particularly proud of that. My mother and I won $100.00 for that.
The only problem ever mentioned about the store was that the owner’s supposedly festive piped-in holiday music was positively unbearable. Mike mused sarcastically that it was because the owners had sung and recorded 10 of their favorite Christmas songs as a way of including all the staff in their personal Holiday cheer. Too bad that didn’t include a free turkey or some “Wild turkey” to really celebrate or, as it were, drown our sorrows. Of course, I didn’t drink alcohol at that age. Mike used to joke that their version of cheerful holiday music was enough to: “gag a maggot!”
As the afternoon drew on, I noticed that one of the coolers was down, so Mike called a repairman to fix it. While the repairman was in the back, I was in the front, helping my mother stock shelves. She spent most of her time at the cash register helping the customers. I remember how she had this way of pinning her long raven black hair above and behind each ear to not have to “fuss” about her hair in her eyes when she was working. I’ll never forget how, during the summer months, the sun would highlight her full, rich, thick, black hair. So black it was practically blue. Her hair and her looks were the envy of most of the female customers and some of the males that came into the store, both young and old.
I, on the other hand, was the complete opposite: long, straight, blonde, hair. To my discerningly independent mind, I didn’t like it! It wasn’t like hers!
I noticed the repairman walk by in his one-piece forest green coveralls with the long sleeves that almost covered his hands. I must have been reading far too many Detective stories back then.
I always had a good eye for observing the world around me, though, especially strangers. I think I got it from my grandmother. I remember watching him as he crept across the floor, hesitating momentarily as though he’d forgotten something, and then deciding against it.
I had this creepy feeling, like the feeling you get when somebody’s watching you, that he’d wanted to turn around and look at me one last time before he shuffled out the front door and away into the darkening night. That irked me.
I was about to tell my mother about him, when the box of cat food I was pricing slipped out of my hand and almost fell to the floor. The thought flew out of my mind and was instantly replaced with what I wanted to get as a little something extra for our 4 cats for Christmas.
We had a long-haired male, black and white tuxedo cat named “Boots” so naturally when we got a Silver Point Siamese cat with blue crossed eyes, we named her “Slippers”; and her twin sister: “Samantha” who was also a Silver Point female Siamese with blue eyes. And finally, my own chocolate cream tortoiseshell cat named: “Shilo”, one of Samantha’s kittens. Yes, the self-same cat of: “Shilo and the Shadow of Sound” Scarie.
I took several cans of cat food, along with some fuzzy, cat nipped, mouse toys for the “Fuzz Buckets” over to my mother after calling out to her, across the aisle and over the din, if it was, “OK?
“Of course, it is, honey!” She half-distractedly called back.
I placed them on the counter in front of her and then went back to finish up some of the pricing.
I remember standing towards the back, furthest from the front doors while facing them, when the door chime sounded, alerting us that there were customers that needed to be greeted and sold to if necessary. I remember the relief we would feel when that awfully cheery holiday music, and I do mean: “awfully” was blissfully interrupted whenever the door chimes sounded. Our sanity would return, even if only momentarily. We plotted desperately about leaving the door open just to cut out that horrid music. But then thought better on it if the music was only going to be replaced with the incessant door chimes or the sub-freezing cold.
When I looked up, I recognized one of the men. It was the cooler repairman with the oversized coveralls. What was odd about him this time, was that he was with another guy who was wearing the same forest green long-sleeved coveralls that actually fit. I had all but completely forgotten about him until he came back through the front door, accompanied by his much larger, Carnival funhouse mirror twin.
I tilted my head to the side, reacting involuntarily to the coinkydink of it and after looking at my mother, who was still too busy to bother at the time. Sighing, I resumed stacking the cat food cans on the top shelf facing out towards the customer.
Finishing one shelf, I noticed the picture of the still famous Orange Tabby Cat named Morris, on the front of a can.
Aside: had it been today, I would have found myself thinking of somebody by the name of Killer Orange Cat and his Mascot: Ichigo? But I digress...
Then, I heard a loud clear male voice order my mother to:
“Give me the money!”
My head jerked up to see a man with a pistol placed right between my mother’s eyes. I found myself unable to move. I was literally paralyzed. Frozen to the spot. Transfixed. Stuck. I watched helplessly as my mother reached under the counter where the paper bags were kept and slapped a small brown paper sack on the counter.
Calmly and concisely, the man with the pistol resumed:
“All of it... Now!”
Then, she emptied the cash register with what was still left that she was supposed to put in the floor safe, but hadn’t gotten around to it yet. Putting cash in the floor safe was a store policy when the money in the cash register exceeded a certain amount.
My mother’s personal routine was to take any money that exceeded that amount and put it in a small paper sack under the counter to be added to the floor safe later, especially when she had too many customers or was simply too busy at the time.
When the man with the pistol came in, along with his crony and ordered her to:
“Hand it over...Now!”
Reflexively smacked the paper sack full of money, on the counter as well. Normally, she would never let the amount in the sack exceed about $50.00, but because we had been so busy, it was about 9:30 PM on Christmas Eve, the amount had steadily grown to about $350.00.
Watching the whole thing play out, like some live Christmas Morality Play from further back in the store, I discovered that I was somehow super glued to the spot. It wasn’t so much I dared not move as I was incapable of moving. While I just stood there, like a dork, playing the part of the convenience store mannequin, my mother, as usual, handled it with utmost grace and dignity. I kept thinking, over and over, that if only I could move, I might be able to help her. Then, I heard the man with the gun repeat again, but this time louder:
“All of it!”
The other man, the unkempt repairman, who was standing behind her, started to move towards me. Her dark brown eyes flicked in my direction; the fucking gun unmoving at her forehead. I thought again that I’ve got to do something! I was scared out of my wits, but growing angry by the second. I hated the way I felt and fought back tears.
When the other man started moving towards me, my mother bellowed out in as unholy a voice as I had never heard before: one single terrifyingly enunciated word:
“Nooo!”
It was the most guttural, animal other-worldly sound I had ever heard. It was more a command than a plea. It was both menacing and wicked. I knew only too well what it meant.
The man who was moving towards me, obeyed immediately as though he had run up against an invisible wall. She had stopped him blind.
Then, I heard a loud crack, like thunder; a shockingly loud noise I will never forget. The most evil, ugly, and awful sound.
One second, I had been watching the man approach me, but now he seemed to be moving in slow motion. In reality, he had darted swiftly back to where my mother had been only moments before but had disappeared. I remember them looking at each other, wondering where she could have gone, but in slow motion.
Somehow, I was seeing them moving really slow as though they were being pushed back by a current of air or water. I too tried to move but discovered that I was still unable to move a muscle. I couldn’t even tell if I was still breathing. It felt like what I later learned about sleep paralysis. I was completely aware of everything around me, but I was simply incapable of movement. It was terrifying.
It was all happening too fast, I told myself at the time. My mind was simply incapable of processing what was going on. I wasn’t shot, I reassured myself, I was in shock.
The entire scene up to that point played and replayed over and over and repeated itself again and again in my mind. It was as though I saw it, but did not see it while at the same time seeing it. Now, I could not unsee it.
I blinked. That simple reflex was the first sign my body had begun to wake up. I might actually move yet, I told myself. It felt like hours since the robber fired his gun into the ceiling, but I knew it could not have been more than a few seconds.
When I realized I could no longer see my mother, I feared for the worst. Nonetheless, I forced myself to watch where the two men were going. They were moving swiftly now, towards the front door. I saw when the gun-wielding fuck gestured for Tweedle Dee and his Dum self, to get the hell out of there. I felt the air become thick as the smaller one with the oversized clothes passed me and leered back one last time before he too went out the door. With the clarity of a snowball hitting me in the back of the head, I realized why my mother had screamed the way she did. The other one, the sick one, he had been coming for me.
After what seemed like, and very nearly turned into, an eternity of silence for both of us, the electronic door chime sounded one last time as they scurried out of the store. Other than the ringing in my ears and my desperate gasps for breath, I slowly began to break free from my paralysis.
Trying to remain calm, I laughed to myself, that the only good that came out of all of this was that after the gunman fired into the ceiling, he somehow managed to kill one of the owner’s demented, notoriously off-key renditions of one of our most beloved Christmas Songs: “Silent Night.” The owner’s solo rendered it into more of a bearing the cross, than a celebration of the spirit of Christmas or the Birth of Christ Jesus. I thanked my God and silently thanked my mother, that the mind-numbing music had ceased. I remembered that even in the worst situations, there are always things to be thankful for.
This was the first cause for celebration along this curiously weird and terrifying Christmas Holiday.
The felonious twins would have been long gone into the blue onyx night sky had it not been for the real cooler repairman standing at a payphone, outside in the parking lot, in nothing but his long underwear and socks (they had little Santas’ all over them). He was standing in ankle-deep snow calling the police. The two robbers tied him up and stuck him in the back of his van and took both pairs of his forest green coveralls as a disguise, which as Christmas Gifts go, only proved the worse for the short lustful little robber fuck.
What gave him away, was when his coveralls proved to be way too big for his height and weight and made him look more like some little kid trying to wear his dad’s work clothes than a serious felon. I could only imagine what would have happened had he been packing a gun as well.
The second cause for celebration was when I finally got complete control of myself after I felt a warm, soft and familiar hand touch my ankle and then two strong arms climbing up to me and finally wrapping herself around me, holding me and gently rocking me awake.
My eyes flowed with tears that were wanting to spill over but I still couldn’t let them. Turning around, I looked directly into the large brown eyes of the only woman I had ever loved in this life: my mother. I had never experienced such clarity of purpose in my too-young life before.
“You’re alright!” I spoke, finally. She’s alright, I thought silently.
What had happened after the shot was my mother had dropped instantly, reflexively, down to below the counter and began working her way towards where I was standing, unable to move. That was the Cherokee on her father, my grandfather’s side. Quick. Fast. Sure.
I understood, by and by, that the most horrible thing that could have ever happened to her apart from losing her own life, had nearly happened to me; something so unfathomable, unthinkable, and yet she and I were still alive and unhurt, at least physically. But by the Grace of God, faith in Christ, and my indomitably willed mother, we would never have made it. That was the third cause for celebration that Christmas Eve.
The dynamic duds had gotten away with about $35.00 from the cash register but had left behind the tiny brown paper sack my mother had loudly and defiantly slapped down on the counter when they first ordered her to:
“Give me the money!”
There was about $350.00 worth of twenties, tens, fives, and ones, they didn’t know about at the time. I like to think, they found out later. The Police caught the twin disasters just outside the store. The gunman, the apparent leader of the group, had seen movement at one of the payphones and decided it was time to make their escape. He must have thought that nobody knew about the robbery yet. Or, maybe they really had been moving in slow motion. Fortunately, my mother had a few friends in the Police Department too, so, when they got the call from the real cooler repairman, the police staked out the area and as soon as they came out of the store, they were quickly greeted and arrested. Fortunately, they hadn’t thought to take hostages. My mother’s “Nooo” must have put that out of their mind. She probably would have killed them both had they tried.
Not long after, my mother quit that job and found another with me, again, in tow, by her side. For months after, the whole thing kept replaying itself over and over in my head. I felt guilty for not being able to do something to help. I had frozen either in fear or in shock or both. As it turned out, my mother assured me that it was exactly what I should have done.
I was, after all, only about 14 at the time, and this wasn’t some Christmas Play. This was real life. My mother, God willing, Christ, and myself had all played a part in a very real-life drama that could have turned into a very real-life tragedy. When you think about it, everything that could have happened to avoid a double homicide, kidnapping or worse did happen. I’ll never forget that my mother's Christmas Gift turned out to be the best gift I could never have imagined getting. Her love for me, along with God’s protection made this the best and final reason to celebrate the Christmas Holiday.
NOTE: This story is dedicated to the store manager mentioned in a previous story for KOC as "Thomas" but due to his current decease, I felt it incumbent upon me and my love and friendship to give his actual first name: "Mike" in this story. Here's to you Mike. May the owner's personal cheer not follow you into the next life. Love and miss you old friend.

Videos occasionally exit Theater Mode on Firefox and loop the first fifteen seconds

I view Youtube videos on Theater mode simply because it looks better on my screen, however about a few days ago I recently noticed that occasionally videos would load without Theater Mode enabled, and with the first 15 seconds set to loop. The screenshot attached shows two vertical lines on the time bar, showing that the first fifteen seconds are indeed looped.
This is a mild inconvenience for some, but for others who like listening to music as a way to fall asleep, it gets tiring really quickly.

2021.09.14 15:38 Butterlord103 Suggestions for Stoneworks (By yours truly, Greenskin)

This is going to be a very long list of suggestions I have for stoneworks. I'm not exactly an "old player", as I joined in April, but I have still played on the server, and have got a comprehensive view on all its issues. Here we go:
This is part 1, I will post part 2 soonish (I cant be fucked to complete this so I am procrastinating)
  1. More unbiased staff.
    1. This one is quite obvious, and there has been strides made to combat this. Unfortunately, those strides have all been made in the wrong direction. Let me explain:
    2. The recent staff purges removed and demoted tons of good staff, that while they had done questionable stuff, they had been good staff that had done good for the server. Not naming any names here, but I think you can guess who I'm talking about (please give me helper back I beg)
    3. A lot of staff have personal reasons to support or aid certain groups, using their influence to combat bans and mutes against these groups. I wont be naming names, as last time I did this I got hit with a wave of toxicity, but this is quite common. You can just look at the Huitca-KOC situation to realise that.
  2. Combat pvp groups.
    1. Not naming any names yet again, as they will just target me in-game. And that right there is the problem. They will hunt and harass you the second you annoy them, with no rp involved. It ruins immersion, and makes Stoneworks a lot less fun to play on. They completely ruin the balance of power, making small nations basically become power-brokers world wide. They try to do pvp in every way they can, be it banditry, joining wars randomly, couping random-ass countries for no reason, and so on. Lets be honest here, they just want to pvp. They dont care to rp, and it shows.
  3. Remove /la spawn and /ah
    1. I know, I know, its being worked on, but this needs to happen fast. It makes no sense rp-wise to be able to teleport around the world.
    2. Removing /la spawn and /ah will make roads so much more important and viable. It will lead to people trading through caravans, and travelling merchants, leading to a flowing economy. This could tie into a reworked bandit and mercenary update, in which bandits become more centered on raiding caravans and roads, and mercenaries can be hired to defend these caravans from said bandits.
    3. A bit unrelated, but adding some sort of region-specific resources could be really cool. As 1.17 might be added soon, the new blocks and resources could maybe only be obtainable in certain areas. This would greatly affect trade, and in a positive way (just a thought tho, as it can be hard to implement)
  4. Have less land wars, and more rp wars!
    1. I know this is also being worked on, but imo, land wars should only be able to be declared if an admin gives permission for it. What I am saying is that for a land war to be declared against another nation, it has to be because they refuse to battle, or just wont log on, or do something else in that fashion. Rp-wars should be more common, as they are much more fun.
    2. Rp wars, and all wars in general, should not be just: If I win, I annex you, if you win, you annex me, hurr-durr. It makes no sense at all. Have wars be over resources, trade rights, hostages, etc.

A note about malicious js files: I completely understand the suspicion that many people have for downloading and implementing js files, as they have the potential to be harmful. That being said, I invite you to check the security of any of the scripts I upload by scanning them here: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload
Some of these scripts are obfuscated due to the creators wanting to protect them from being copied/plagiarised. As such, I don't know the full extent of what they do. That being said, I have used them for months now and have not encountered any viruses/crypto mining/trickery (I use Panda Dome Antivirus, which frequently gives me false positives, and according to the program, my computer is clean).
I'll seed whenever I'm awake. If I'm not available, here's the DDL 🙂

2021.02.28 19:13 LummoxJR 56 user finally forced to upgrade—help!

I've been on 56 keeping my legacy add-ons, but last night something got borked and trying to fix it ended up with Stylus disappearing, and now I get update nags I never got before that I no longer know how to fix. So it's time. But, I need to keep certain functionality. These are my most important legacy apps:
I also use Stylus but that's currently broken (no icon is displaying), so hopefully an update will fix it. I'd prefer to replace it with something that doesn't put the stylesheets inline where the document can access them, but I don't know if that's doable.

2020.08.31 04:39 KillerOrangeCat Three True Scary Random Stories 8/30/2020

Number One : Personal Experience by KOC
So, okay, I have shared some personal stories before. And I think most people understand my viewpoint on the paranormal. I don’t take a hard line stance that the paranormal as a whole either exists or does exist. I do, however, judge everything I can on an individual case by case basis. With me, having epilepsy, hearing and seeing something can be chalked up to partial seizures. Normally I can have an auditory hallucination but visual is not out of the question.

I had a very odd experience last night. All I am going to do is explain what happened and I am going to let anyone listening come up with their own conclusions.

I was up late last night doing some work on this very video. But also keep in mind that I tend to sleep a no conventional schedule to begin with. You also know that we have many cats. Seven of them at the moment. Only a couple of the cats ever come into my room and normally none of them sleep in their. That’s just because of it’s difficult for me to sleep when I think that I might have to wake up for some reason. Napping is not an easy thing for me because of this. But if I go to bed and I am thinking that a cat in my room might need to wake me up at some point in order to want to be out of the room. I always sleep with my door closed.

Well, anyway, my sister, mom and I had run some errands yesterday. One of them I will tell you about later. But one of them was a trip to the Laundromat. I always enjoy laundry day because nothing feels better than laundry fresh pajamas and bed linens. But I was doing work so I wasn’t able to get to sleep until really late night or early morning.

I sleep on my side and it normally takes me a while to fall asleep. So I curled up on my bed and I laid down on my pillow, ready to sleep.

Maybe less than a minute after laying down, I experienced something very strange. I felt a cat jump on my bed. I have a desk next to my bed that is higher than the bed. So it felt as if the cat jumped down from the desk, landed on my bed and part of my leg. This caused me to jump upright in bed.

Of course, my very first thought was that one of the housecats got into my room. So I called out for the ones that answer their names. There was no response. Then I had to get up and look around. And I searched the entire bedroom. There were no animals in my room at all. I searched in every possible place that one might have tried and hid. But I was unable to find anything there was no animal of any kind in my room.

So I went back to bed. But I was unnerved. I couldn’t explain what had happened. But it was not like my normal hallucinations. There was some noise, but mainly I felt a cat jump on me and it shook my bed a little when it happened. And yes, I darted straight up when I felt it and I had assumed the cat had run off. But there is no way that the cat could have gotten out of my room.

As I was laying down, I remembered something. As everyone knows, we had to put down our cat Althea earlier this month. She was cremated but that process seemed to take a long time for some reason. We weren’t able to pick up the ashes until yesterday, when we were running our errands. So last night was the very first time those ashes had been in our house since we had to take Althea to the vet.

So, whenever I have shared my experiences like this, I don’t tell you what to think of them. Personally, I don’t think it was supernatural. After I had my brother’s ashes in my room, I often felt someone pressing their foot down at the foot of the bed. This was something my brother had to do. I think my mind likely created the occurence to comfort itself with the loss.

But I also won’t tell anyone else what to think. It did scare me quite a bit when it happened.

Number Two by Shreya Sengupta

My father has held the position of the manager in various tea gardens across Darjeeling in India. With this responsibility, our family has had the chance to stay in some amazing British made bungalows scattered around the hill station. A little background to the ones who are not familiar with this concept: India was under the British rule for many years, and since most of the country’s temperatures rose up to 45 degree Celsius in the summers, the English decided to settle within the tea plantations. One of those areas is Darjeeling, with a climate similar to that of the UK. They built beautiful bungalows and they still house the managers who are responsible for the well-being of the tea gardens, like my father.

So now to my story- One of the bungalows where we lived was in a place called Cedars, on the outskirts of Darjeeling, which was separated from the small village situated nearby. We lived there for almost 16 years and boy do I have stories.

Generally, every household helper that was provided to us by the company that my father worked for warned my mother about the various "happenings" that would occur within the place. My mother usually brushed them off but as it would get boring, would indulge in some stories from time to time. That was until she had a tale of her own. My mother has always been a light sleeper. One night as we were all asleep, I nestled between my parents as I was only 3, she jolted awake for no reason. She lied down with her eyes closed in the dark and waited for sleep to come. However, she started to hear light footsteps in the room. The floors were wooden so the sounds were pretty obvious. She also realized that they were light, as it sounded similar to my footsteps as I was small.

Her first thought was that I was not in bed and was running around, trying to not get caught. However, when she tried to feel for me, there I was, sound asleep. Now she was alert. Gradually, the footsteps were joined by another set. Now there were two distinct sounds of footsteps running to-and-fro. My mother started sweating and was so fear-stricken that she couldn't even wake us up. The second one was as light as the first one. Just when she thought that it couldn't get worse, the door to the room slammed open. Sweating bullets, she tried to hear any sound but now the room was completely silent. She didn't move and eventually fell asleep. This was just the beginning.

The servants continued to complain about furniture being moved when we were away and voices (mostly similar to my mother's) calling out to them from the rooms when she would be outside in the lawn. As I grew up, I would occasionally hear footsteps when there was no one around in that room. I got my room and didn't experience anything until I was in my teen years. I shifted schools and had to stay with my aunt in the main town of Darjeeling. I would come back for the weekends and would sleep in my room. One night, as I was texting my then-boyfriend on my sad flip phone, I heard knocking on my window. I lifted the curtains to see nothing but pitch darkness. I brushed it off as some insect crashing on the glass and went to sleep. However, every weekend would be the same, and I would always ignore it. This didn't sit well with the "thing" as the water in my bathroom would turn-on on its own. Most nights I would wake up to the sound of running water. Ii did nothing about it because I was a teenager lol.

As time passed by, my mother started to notice a pattern in the incidents she had with the deaths taking place in the village. Every time someone would die in the village, there were whispers, indiscernible words being repeated over and over by unknown vices from different rooms, and weird orbs of light floating in the dark. This all came to a head when my younger brother saw something in the dark living room one night. He was only 2, just learning to talk and could not finish his sentences properly. Usually, he would sit by my father in the study, trying to draw and "help" my father with his work. One weekend as I was home, I sat with my mother watching television in her room while my brother and father were in the study. The living room was dark and shared a door with the study. My brother was facing the door and according to my father, he started screaming and crying hysterically, pointing towards the darkroom and babbling incoherent words. As he was inconsolable, my father called for my mother and me. After calming down a bit, all he could say was, "eyes, scary eyes." Needless to say, I slept with the lights on that night.

One chilling incident occurred when we had to attend a wedding in a different state. There were night guards who always stayed in two. However, one night, one of the guards was unwell. So as the only guard made his rounds, he saw or heard nothing unusual. He settled down after a while and began to nod off in his cabin. Suddenly, he felt a cold arm on his back and he jolted awake. He was spooked but thought he was just imagining things in his sleepy state. After making another round, he settled back in his cabin. This time he was wide awake and reading the newspaper when he felt the cold arm on his side. That was it, he ran without looking back and returned only the next morning with several of the villagers in tow.

The last major incident was when it was just my father and me as my mother and brother were out of town. I had recently adopted my adorable dog, muffin, and he was just two months old. He usually slept by the foot of my bed and this night was no different. I was on my phone and muffin was fast asleep when he shot straight up and started growing at the bathroom door, which I had left wide open. I tried to calm him down but he started barking. I nearly shat myself but eventually managed to calm him down. This night too, I fell asleep with the lights on in my room. I have a dreamless sleep. However, in my sleep, I heard a melodious voice of a lady, say "wake up honey" in a caring tone. You should understand that while India has the second-highest English speaking population, it was unlikely for the surrounding village to have someone speak the language so clearly. I was suddenly awake and as I opened my eyes, I saw nothing. It was pitch-dark. The lights had cut out and I couldn't see a single thing. I started panicking as I am scared of complete darkness. I felt for Muffin but couldn't find him. I started fumbling for my flashlight and when I found it I ran to my father's room. This was the last incident in that house before we had to move.

I don’t know what was in that place but I know that soft voice wanted nothing but the best for me.

NumberThree :Shilo and the Shadow of Sound by Cathy Bennet
Killer Orange Cat, I know you are skeptical of paranormal stories but this one is true.
My family is from the south. We lived in Memphis, TN until I was 11 and then moved to Missouri. Shortly thereafter (and because my dad was such an asshole) my parents got divorced. After that, we moved to Little Rock, AR. Since my mother was now a single parent and because she had family in Little Rock, we moved there with me and my other 5 sisters. Our only brother stayed in Memphis, TN. To make a long story short, my uncle (my mother's brother) had 60 acres of land and he invited my mother, me and my sisters to put a trailer on his land. He set up the electricity, water, sewage, etc. himself.
After we moved there, one of my sisters' was given a siamese cat. One day, she had kittens underneath the trailer. I followed her and noticed the hole in the fiberglass lining she had them in. Because of the fiberglass, I knew that I would have to get the kittens and bring them inside as soon as possible. The first one I took, was this tiny little life; a runt. She was a multi-colored chocolate tortoise shell. It was then and there that I decided she would be mine. I named her Shilo. Despite being the runt, Shilo had the heart of a lion. She was a fierce little thing. Once she fought-off a stray doberman pincer that was trying to get to her first litter. Between Shilo's claws and my yelling, the dog bolted and Shilo dropped off continuing to run after it until it was good and gone. When she came back after that ordeal, she was covered in blood but thank God, none of it was hers.
Shilo loved to be outside, she absolutely craved it and would stop at nothing to go out and get out whenever she could. My uncle raised pigs and chickens and had a huge garden. Shortly after moving there, he gave me a large chick enclosure made of chicken wire with a wooden frame and no bottom that protected his starter chicks until a complete coop was finished. Since they were all grown up now, he didn't need it anymore.
Because Shilo turned out to be the Harry Houdini of cats (Harry Houdini was a famous escape artist of the 1930s) she eventually found the weakest part of the wire. She'd wedged herself halfway out when she saw me coming back with her food and water. I yelled "Shilo" and she stopped momentarily, her huge golden orbs gleaming in the sunlight, scowling as though to say, 'catch me if you can' and tore herself the rest of the way out and down the road. During the winter, the old dirt road was a lot of fun because we used to sled down it from my uncle's place and it was a really long hill. But this time, it was a terror because Shilo was out and I was desperately trying to get her back before she reached the wood.
My uncle's property had this long dirt road that led up a hill where his house sat overlooking the acreage and our trailer below. On both sides of the road were trees that were very dense and thick. If you looked into the wood, you couldn't see beyond the first few trees. They were so close together, they had the effect of a kind of fence, you would really have to work to get through them.
As a 15 year old, I was unnaturally long legged and fast on my feet. Friends at school used to call me Bambi. I could out-run nearly everyone. My teachers would later recommend that I join the track team; so when I saw her moving down the road, getting smaller and smaller, out-distancing me, my worst fear was of her suddenly diving deep into the dreaded wood and that was exactly what she did.
Meanwhile, here I am still racing to catch-up, thinking I don't know how I'm going to get into the wood because the thickness of the briars and brambles are really hard to get through. Nonetheless and because I loved her so much, I was willing to go through heaven and hell to get her back. When I entered the wood, I had to blaze my way through the dense foliage with all the burrs, barbs and stickers. Suddenly, I completely lost sight of Shilo. As I move in, going around and through the impossibly close trees, visibility is down to just a few feet and because of this, there is nearly no sunlight reaching the floor of the wood. It's almost completely black under foot and all around. Strangely, the woods on this side of the road showed absolutely no signs of wildlife, neither skat nor spore. Also, there were no signs of squirrels, rabbits or bird nests. It was as though all the wildlife in the area avoided the wood on this side of the road while favoring the wood on the other. Shilo, with her lion's heart, proved to be the exception.
It was then that I first heard the sound. I wanted it to be Shilo. I told myself; it had to be her. When I peered around a tree from where I thought the sound was coming, I still couldn't see anything. My heart dropped. I desperately needed it to be her. Then as I started looking for her again, peering around another tree, the sound stopped. When I still did't see Shilo, I called out to her. No response. Anybody that has been owned by a cat knows that cats won't listen unless they want to. She obviously didn't want to. I started looking again, straining to see through the gloom, when my heart started beating so loud, I swore whatever it was could hear it. It sounded like there was something, or someone moving but this time really fast towards me. Instictively, I stepped back and reached around behind me, feeling to avoid colliding with a tree.
To me, it sounded like a person. From a young age, my mother taught me to be afraid of nothing and because I've lived in and around woods all my life, the second sound wasn't particularly alarming although it sounded like something bigger. The first seemed softer, further away, like something smaller, like a small animal, but because I knew there were no animals on this side of the road it had to be Shilo. But when I realized that both sounds were coming from the same source, but now much louder, I felt it to be more menacing. The sound it made, seemed like it wasn't having to avoid the trees. I imagined it was sweeping through them, not around or over them. Then it abruptly stopped again. My heart was beating out of my chest. I felt as though I were going to have a heart attack. But still thinking of Shilo, I called one more time. Nothing. It was then that I decided to back out of the wood. Thinking that it was going to run into me, I tripped and fell flat on my ass. Half laughing I got back on my feet and resumed backing away. Although I couldn't see it, I was not about to turn my back on it. It seemed to stay in the wood as though the road was an invisible barrier.
Momentarily, I was distracted by something out of the corner of my left eye, it was Shilo. She is only a few feet from me. She keeps looking around towards the sound and back at me. Her pupils are huge and the 'heart of the lion' seems to have left her. She is really scared. For the first time in my life, I was too. Before I know it, she's in my arms. I don't know how, but I got what I came for and now I'm moving in a fast walk.
As I'm moving, picking up speed, the sound is moving with us, mimicking us, but always limited by the barrier of the wood. It won't or can't enter onto the road. I stopped momentarily to see if I can see it. The sound stopped as well. It was like a dog behind a fence, keeping pace with me every step of the way. I hoped it wouldn't follow me there. I started moving at a quicker pace. The sound moving with us as though it were a part of us. Though I am terrified beyond comprehension I keep trying to see what is pursuing us. Call it morbid curiosity, I try testing it to gauge it's response. As I sped up, it sped up. As I stop, it stops. As I go on, it goes on. Later, I would liken it to my shadow: not a shadow of sight but a shadow of sound.
Again, as I speed up, the sound speeds up. So I started running as fast as I could and the sound is running right alongside me, but always in the wood, not on the road. I still can't see what's making the sound, but I'm thinking this is impossible. Nothing could move as fast as I'm moving without hitting the trees. It sounds like it's breaking twigs and bark as it goes but the trees aren't moving; there are no leaves rustling or falling as it moves. It's as though the speed of the sound is not affected by any obstacle in it's path, except for the road or when I stop or start.
As I clutched Shilo for dear life, she kept straining to look, her eyes huge with fear. When I turned off the road to cut across the clearing away from the wood, the sound stopped. Suddenly feeling watched, I run on to the trailer. I thanked God it couldn't follow me the rest of the way home.
Sometime later, I noticed claw marks and blood on my shirt and chest where Shilo had been gouging me but I felt absolutely none of it at the time when Shilo and I were making our way out. I proved my love and devotion to her that day and many times more through the coming years and she proved her love and devotion for me when, though she was the cause of our entering the wood in the first place, she was also the cause that got us out. Shilo, knew that if she did not return to me when she did, I would go on searching, no matter what. I would not stop until I found her. I can only imagine what might have become of us.
Over the years, I have thought on this incident many times and have come to the conclusion that whatever made the sound, wasn't actually threatening us, more like it was escorting us. It never tried to hurt me or Shilo. Rather, the sound seemed to be telling us to get out of the wood. I think it may very well have been protecting us. From what, we never knew. Strangely, whatever the hell it was, and as long as I lived there, I never walked down that section of road again. And stranger still, Shilo never went into the woods on that side again either. All we knew is that what ever was in the wood, scared the living hell out of us.

2020.03.07 08:15 RedNapalm Is there a better way to view followers and following?

I've got no intentions on the whole sales & marketing type of motivation.
I just that I follow a lot of digital artists and want to follow more based on their follow/following lists and they mainly have their profile picture as one of their art as if it's a preview.
The big problem is that the profile picture displayed on those lists are way too tiny to see. I used to use Helper Tools for Instagram v1 on Chrome but they've gone the way of monthly subscriptions. Is there any alternatives to this or some sort of greasemonkey script that'll solve this problem?

This script works on two sites, steam profile page and faceit profile page.

As you might know, if you're not subscribing to faceit, you can't view players elo. There're some third-party websites allow free players to view palyers elo, and other stats like elo history. This script just added the links to these sites on faceit profile, so free user can check others faceit elo by 1-click.

Also, sometimes you might want to find someone's Faceit or ESEA profile when you're looking at their steam profile. This script can also help.

https://imgur.com/lX3FzpY

I write this script for my own usage. I'm not related to these third-party faceit stats websites, and I'm not doing a promotion for them. I'm not responsible for their services. You can get the same results manually without using my script. It just saves your time a little bit.

link for my script

To run this script, you'll need https://www.tampermonkey.net/ for chrome, or https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/ for firefox.

Let me know if you got any problem when using this script.

2019.05.05 14:26 -dcim- Free software for learners

Not so long ago I wrote several programs for myself. And I would like to share them with Reddit users. All programs work in browser, have open sources and own detailed help.
Training of word recognition at the hearing by writing
Listen word and type it.
Show word description by double click in FireFox
This is a GreaseMonkey script. How to install and use video is here
Learn phrasal verbs with MacMillian dictionary
I have not found programs to the study of phrasal verbs, so I made attempt to write own version.
Practice pronunciation with Google Speech Recognition (Chrome only)
This program was inspired by Christian Saunders video
P.S. Russian users can found details here

2018.12.24 09:32 thetrny Snowball Showdown Helper [User Script]

Hi folks, thought I'd share the Snowball Showdown helper script I released a couple of days ago: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/375817-mousehunt-snowball-showdown-helper
There's more information on the description page, but in short this script marks the most probable tile(s) to progress on a board using the recently updated algorithm from Paul H's popular spreadsheet. It's definitely not perfect (averaging around 9-10 misses per board), but if you've hoarded hundreds of Throwable Snowballs it should be quite an effective way to blitz through a bunch of them.
Do note you'll need to install a userscript manager extension like Tampermonkey or Greasemonkey first. I've used the former on Chrome/Firefox Desktop and Firefox Mobile with no issues.

2018.11.12 20:14 garamasala Crashing on wake from sleep (linux)

I am experiencing an annoying problem, firefox crashes every time I suspend my computer and wake it up. It might be ok for a a minute or two but soon it just freezes and has to be killed.
I have refreshed firefox, my addons came back because of sync but I have disabled all but two:
  1. ublock origin (preferences have just been reset)
  2. Vim Vixen (only just installed this because I thought Vimium was causing the issue but apparently not)
When I refreshed it seemed like it fixed the problem but it came back. I don't change much in the preferences but I suppose sync could be importing some problem? This coincided with the upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 but I'm not sure where to start looking for the cause.
about:crashes shows no record of the crash.
I see below these two preferences:
Don't these two conflict, how can layers acceleration be forced on and disabled?
I should also say that it seems that after the crash firefox only restores the tabs that were there before the sleep. So I could wake from sleep and open some tabs, close some (opening new tabs seems to be a common trigger for the freezing), it will freeze, I kill it, open again and it asks if I want to restore the session, then all the new tabs and closed tabs have been forgotten.

2018.08.30 05:32 DavidJCobb RES has stopped remembering its Dropbox authorization

RES frequently asks me to authorize it for Dropbox -- sometimes multiple times per day. This has been going on for a few days now. Previously, Dropbox backups were enabled, but RES would remember its authorization.
Signing into Dropbox.com has not alleviated the issue. My Dropbox account has its own username and password; it isn't connected to a Google account or anything else. I do not use multiple reddit, Dropbox, or Google accounts.
Browser extensions ADB Helper Greasemonkey Toolbox RES Stylus Tree Style Tab uMatrix User Agent Switcher
All of these add-ons were present when it worked before.
