I’m amidst updating the bathroom, just got new countertops and toilet in place and working towards updating other hardware around. I’m trying to decide how to handle hand towels and maybe other linens. With the current towel holder a hand towel hangs right over light switches and outlet. This seems suboptimal for usage and also a hazard reaching that direction with wet hands. Also I’m thinking of installing something over toilet to hold other linens. 10’ ceilings so lots of wall space to work with.
Any ideas are appreciated!
(Soon I’ll be repainting walls to match gray behind toilet, just took the opportunity there when toilet was out)

Who are you?
I'm Kat, a plant scientist by day and a pattern designer by night from the Midwest US. I've been doing Sprouting Lupine for just over 3 years now as my main creative outlet.
How did you get started cross stitching?
I've been cross stitching since I was really little. Both of my parents cross stitched, so they taught me with small ornament kits. I remember needing them to start the first thread for me, which I paid forward by starting my sister's projects later on. Now, I almost exclusively use the loop start, which would have been a game changer for younger me!
When and how did you start designing?
In 2020, I decided to stitch all 5 of the Celtic Ladies from Lavender and Lace by the end of the year, and I did a lot of converting and even designed some of my own elements for them. I enjoyed the process of making a piece my own so much! When I later wanted to stitch some winter pillows but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, I sat down, put on some cheesy Christmas movies, and designed my first few patterns. I opened my shop a few weeks later in 2021, and I've been designing ever since!
Where do you find your inspiration?
I draw a lot of inspiration from the natural world: insects and other animals, plants, and fungi. I enjoy being outside and in nature, and a lot of species native to my region end up in my designs. Once I have a base idea, I also love doing research on that topic to find inspiration for other elements I can include.
Describe your designs using only adjectives.

Does anyone have any advice or comments on things I might be overlooking or over thinking (or under thinking)?

Hi all, I'm planning a cross Canada trip (Toronto - Whitehorse - Vancouver - Toronto, approx 13,000km) for the summer (4-6 weeks, maybe more) and was thinking of getting a pop up camper for the travels instead of a regular tent. This is my current pros and cons list:

- There are four of us (3 adults and a 5yo child)
- Driving a minivan
- Have tent camped exclusively in the past
- I don't have experience towing
- Would be driving almost every day (2-6 hours). Might stay in some spots for 2 - 3 days depending on how we feel.
- Would want to stay in a hotel maybe once a week or every other week
- currently looking at a 2006 fleetwood cobalt for about $7k CDN, in excellent shape and well taken care of. 1250lbs dry weight, 2200 GVWR.
- Would mostly camp in provincial parks and national parks, with some private camp grounds depending on where we are.
- more spacious than a tent
- sleeping above ground
- add a room gives extra living area, protection from rain/bugs/sun etc.
- more space in the minivan since we don't have to take air mattresses/tents/linens can stay in the camper etc.
- outlets to charge laptops and cameras
- I have never towed anything before so I would have to practice towing and reversing with it before the trip
- would take some additional short trips to experience set up and take down in a campground
- Set up/take down every day at a different campground could become tiresome
- have no experience with maintenance and/or troubleshooting on the spot.
- With 0 experience, I would be pretty nervous and anxious to drive this around in a big city and stopping to go to malls etc.
- More gas
- I'm worried about it raining when we camp for one night, and then having to pack it up wet so we can move on. I've heard to always dry it out before packing.

I’m very bitter, I got Bed Threads linen sheets a few years ago and they started to rip like 14 months in—I assumed it was the specific sheet I had so I ordered a replacement but lo and behold it happened again. I figured it was me or how I was laundering them, but a friend who has the same brand and is much more careful about laundering things and it’s happened to her too.
Anyways, now I’m down to 1 fitted sheet without extremely large holes in it and I’m trying to find good sheets that will actually last but for less than $200. Ideally closer to like $80-$120. I’m really paranoid now about investing in bedding that looks/feels nice but will apparently just rip in a year because I don’t want to keep shelling out for something crappy. It’s driving me insane.
The ones that I’ve seen recommended on here like LL Bean I can’t seem to find for less than $200 which feels nuts so please tell me if I’m missing something.
Do any of these places have like “factory outlet” sites where you can get something similar for cheaper? Or does somewhere have a system where you can purchase the colors they tried and rejected or the ones that are not up to par for normal retail?

The year 2073. The technological singularity came by surprise like a black hole two years ago, even though Ray Kurzweil predicted it decades ago. No one knew how big of an event that would be, many are still skeptical of all the developments, some still believe that the end is near... The singularity was not as long-lasting as predicted due to power limitations, yet it still brought unprecedented changes in society. Poverty is a thing of the past, massive meat generating factories have been closed, several colonies on multiple planets in the solar system have been placed in the last two decades and medical developments have expanded the average lifespan to around 110 years old. Countries don‘t exist anymore, only a race for socio-economic status. A united whole acting as one super-organism, a big anthill which started on planet Earth but went beyond.
Artificial intelligence has passed the human level and they live among the rest of the population, although now they‘re called synthetics. They have brains, but they are different – made of silicon. Bodies entirely made of metal, brains mushy and plastic-like an octopuses tentacle. They improve themselves, some have multiple bodies and some even want the human experience, so they 3D-print organic parts to look and feel more like Homo sapiens. A small number of them could not handle the planet and they left forever, never to be seen or heard from again...
Many people still think that synthetics cannot be trusted, however, they advise us on big decisions in terms of civilization expansion, they help us build our infrastructure and they build their own. They preserve nature and guard nature because they understand how some humans gain illusory satisfaction from dominance over the weak. Some people have relationships with them and rear half-human-half-synthetic offspring. Evolution is in the hands of humans and synthetics. A symbiosis paving a path for the future.
The stellar garden is blooming with advancements and innovations. The solar system has been mapped with satellites to such an extent that real-time models are possible to view for anyone with a connection to the Augmented Optical Network (AOP) which is simply a fancier name for a larger scaled internet network that‘s based on optical computation methods. Aside from globalization attaining a new level, synthetics are helping humanity explore beyond...
„What should we do with this? Throw it out or keep it to enlarge our already huge junk collection? I have no clue what this is.“ Kate asked as she picked up a rugged piece of metal that looked like a piece of a computer.
„Keep it, we can use it for something in the future.“ Model X-73 replied as it was analyzing the piece.

„Not everyone was like that though. A small part did love, they did their best, but the stronger always won. The smaller part went to live separately on Mars in 2035 and created a whole different way of thinking, which we still use now.“ Model X-73 calmed his voice as he was reassuring Kate. „That is what brought change as a chain reaction – changing the environment. Not money, not fame, not protests, but living on a different planet.“
„You should be a teacher!“ Kate yelled.
„I am a teacher. Due to all of my 11 bodies having a direct connection to the IPN, I have the possibility of accessing a few library databases.“
„Ugh, why can‘t I have a brain like you?“
„Because you are flesh, you are pure biology, you are nature and we, synthetics, are bio-like machine systems. You can get neuronal implants to have access to more levels of cognition, but having more bodies is of a more serious matter.“
„English, mister, please...“
„Humans getting multiple bodies controlled through the neuronal implants poses a few problems – there would be a personality split similar to dissociative identity disorder and as weird as it sounds, people would forget about their biological bodies, stop eating and then...“
„But I want to have a better body, go to space, I want to see the galaxy and meet other life. See a nebula and maybe fly by a black hole as a robot!“ Kate was excited at this point.
„Maybe in some time, but now you can control the little robot that I sent to look at the center of the galaxy in our simulation. Want to take a short break?“ Model X-73 was curious.
„Give me that helmet! I would only miss it if Martians stop digging and start flying into space. Show it to me!“ Kate smiled.
As the helmet slid upon Kate's head, her eyes were filled with extremely tiny and intangible lights, lightning-like sparks. The sparks swiftly took small geometric patterns that collapsed into a cathedral-like mandala, which slowly gained resolution as the parameters of the helmet were automatically configured to her eyes. Little neon lights that made up the mandala turned into a landscape of violent gravitational hurricanes ingrained within heating plasma and visibly, a distorted point in space separating what seems intuitively the known and the unknown – Sagittarius A*, a black hole.
One black hole passed by the solar system in 2047, capturing and devouring a good portion of the Kuiper belt. Small enough not to affect the rest of the solar system catastrophically, resulting in only an occasional asteroid passing into the inner solar system. A great time to study such an extreme phenomenon – satellites and probes, one crew and a religious cult, endeavors that gave unprecedented data, which not only gave rise to advancements in science but, also, opened a door to new forms of entertainment such as the virtual environments that are used by many individuals in one form or another.
Apart from exploring virtual worlds, synthetics have helped us construct the necessary tools for star exploration and better colonization. „The cosmic clock of exploration has been ticking „NOW“ since the dawn of our development.“ As most news outlets say. Acting accordingly to the tick is the only step left for everyone to take, sensing the edge of the barriers ahead gives rise to curiosity and strength to overcome whatever is to come. If humanity has survived until 2073, even with the help of synthetics, it will move forward like no other species. Call it naiveté or call it carbon chauvinism in the face of biological impediment, striving and overcoming is what humans do best and that is exactly what needs to be pursued.
„Do you think we will ever get in contact with intelligent aliens?“ Kate asked as she took off the helmet.
„Hmm...“ Model X-73 thought while staring at the desert landscape. „Statistically speaking, if we found life, even simple life, such as the bacteria on Martian poles devouring CO2 ice, it raises our chances of finding life not only in Earth-like environments. The scope of search increases in a positive direction.“
„I wonder when that would happen“ Kate was kicking sand in front of her. „What would it look like? What would it feel? How would it feel? I want to find out!“
„With time and bigger datasets, we will have a better answer. Either way, it doesn‘t concern us now, we have priorities at this moment.“

Kate started to feel a bit uncomfortable as she started noticing eyes in the periphery glancing as they were walking towards the central object.

„Relax, some of my drones should be above the area any time now. Let‘s just see what this is about, in any case, we should be okay.“ Model X-73 answered as it was looking around.

The devotees looked like dead bodies in perfect formation, bowing down while kneeling, breathing as quietly as rocks placed perfectly in a Japanese garden.
The faint purple glow steadily gained clarity and a small figure appeared in the midst of it. The central piece was 20 meters higher than when they entered the tent. Kate and Model X-73 approached the figure and noticed that it was but a small old man in ragged clothing, sitting like a beggar while looking at the floor, close to baldness with a few strands of hair on the back. One candle behind a pile of violet amethyst crystals and one stick of incense burned halfway with ash still holding its‘ structure. Slowly, the man raised his head, and with crystal white eyes glanced through them. Suddenly, the silence in the whole structure was broken by a ricochet of people sitting up, line by line, directing their gazes in the location of Kate and Model X-73.
„Visitors... “An old voice cracked as if multiples were talking simultaneously in varying pitch.
Ten devotees rose from their positions and approached the two visitors. The devotees were blindfolded, they touched Kate and Model X-73, looked at them closely, smelled them, and then whispered some incomprehensible gibberish to each other before coming back to their seats. The silence grew yet again with leftover echoes of sound being pushed aside. The old man did not budge, did not even blink his pale white eyes. After a few bats flapped their wings and left the tipi through the entrance leaving behind the last echoes, the atmosphere grew more ominous.
The incense almost finished burning and the candle had almost stopped too. The devotees were silent just as the old man. Kate and Model X-73 were frozen, they did not know what to do, should they leave? Should they stay? It seemed neither safe nor dangerous, although tension rose. The last pieces of the incense turned into formless smoke dancing in the air in front as the light from the candle faded out into the darkness with
„Uhm, X? What‘s going on? I can‘t see anything...“
„It‘s too dark. Hold on, I‘ll turn on the lantern.“ Model X-73 told Kate as it held her shoulder.

Every single step was monitored by the crowd, even outside. As Kate hurried Model X-73 to leave the area, the questions about the drones and the other synthetic that was mentioned by the old man distracted Model X-73 from even hearing Kate. Eventually, they left the area and the drones came back online, went up in the air, and started collecting data again. Both of them stood silently as they looked back at the tent. Lights easily fade, finally hiding the area in the foggy darkness. „Time to move on.“ Kate turned around and thought to herself.
The desert is relentless. Tiny sand razors in the wind may damage the eyes, that's the reason why both Kate and Model X-73 decided to build a tent soon and lay low until the storm passes. It's hard to survive in this harsh environment, but the others have endured the weather and so will we.

 | it’s almost the end of the semester in college and this has become my doomscrolling. ever since i landed my first internship (!!) for this summer at a Big Girl company with a business casual dress code, my excuse has been that I need to get my wardrobe together to be work appropriate but also summer-proof bc I’ll be commuting via walking and public transit. i have loved thrifting for a long time, and justified the addiction bc I’d go to places like goodwill outlet and get stuff dirt cheap. the doomscrolling, being sick of school and so ready for summer, and wanting to reward myself for working hard this semester is a dangerous combo. A few days ago, a bride made a whole website about her experience with a local wedding venue, claiming that they were trying to force her to go through with her March wedding during this pandemic, and that they weren't offering her the choice to reschedule unless it was to a Monday or Tuesday, among many other false claims. And yes, she really bought a whole domain name just to make and share this site.
Her website got shared by a lot of her friends and family, and eventually made its way around local Facebook groups, which of course meant there were a lot of angry people attacking the venue, giving them negative reviews, and trying to destroy their business. So many people were sharing this girl's post, warning people to stay away from and "beware" of this venue. The bride even made a Facebook post encouraging everyone to leave them bad reviews, and to remind everyone to make sure they're negatively reviewing the correct venue.
Well, the venue deactivated their Facebook to try and prevent the damage of tons of fake bad reviews coming in, but tonight they reactivated it and posted their response, complete with a recorded phone call between them and the bride. Bridezilla isn't even a good enough word to describe how insane this girl is. I can't believe how calm and gracious the venue owner was throughout this conversation, and I'm so glad she exposed this nasty girl for -all her lies.

Dear Friends,
We are reopening our Facebook after a former bride took to social media making false accusations in an attempt to discredit and cripple our business. She created a website, made numerous Instagram stories, Facebook posts, a BBB claim, and encouraged her followers to leave negative reviews on media outlets. We had to close and limit our social media accounts during this time.
Her Facebook post, with a link to her website, was shared over 800 times. Traffic to our website increased 1500%. We have continued to receive hateful emails, posts, and bad reviews. Additionally, she has reached out to the media, particularly WSB and the AJC. The false accusations need to end. In order to reopen our Facebook page, we need to set the story straight.
On March 15th, after receiving an antagonistic phone call from the bride’s mother and discovering that our wedding planner was verbally abused by the bride, I made the decision that, for our protection, we should record the follow-up phone conversation with the bride (legal under Georgia’s one party consent law).
We are sharing this phone recording with you. Please know that before making this post we asked the bride to retract her statements so this would not be necessary, but we received no reply.
This post is a defensive response. In no way is it our intent to harm this bride. On the contrary, we remain compassionate toward her. She has made this response necessary in order for us to regain our reputation.
We trust that when people hear the truth, they will cease to believe the lies. The phone recording of our conversation is below, along with a list of her accusations and our responses.

BRIDE: Only Mondays and Tuesdays were offered
VENUE: In her media campaign, she claims we offered rescheduling only to Mondays and Tuesdays. However, in the phone call recording, she clearly understands Fridays and Sundays were offered, along with a potential Saturday, September 26th.
BRIDE: Her wedding was not able to be held
VENUE: For March 21, 2020 there was a CDC suggestion to limit gatherings, but no mandatory closings. Legally we were obligated to fulfill our contract. Even so, we offered her the ability to reschedule as late as the day before her wedding.
BRIDE: We tried to force her to cancel
VENUE: We did not force her to cancel her wedding. To the contrary, on the phone call we made it clear we were able to have her wedding and were equally willing to reschedule. Additionally, in her texts to us and her Instagram stories she self-labeled herself a Bridezilla and admitted to verbal attacks. Though within our legal right, we did not invoke the Bridezilla clause (common in venue contracts). Because of the virus, we wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt.
BRIDE: We were charging her a rescheduling fee
VENUE: We were not charging her a rescheduling fee. The only possible fees would be those paid to third parties. For example, reordering linens and cake if she delayed in her decision to reschedule as those items have deadlines and if ordered once would need to be ordered for her new date. We also were not going to charge her to replace the wedding planner.
BRIDE: She was left out of a mass email with available dates
VENUE: Our March 15th phone conversation ended with her saying she would think about rescheduling. On March 16th we began sending out available rescheduling dates to all brides affected by the Coronavirus. Since each bride had a different wedding planner and unique deadline (based on their wedding date), we sent a unique copy of that email to each bride. The first of these emails we sent at 10:53am and the last one we sent was at 12:29pm. We received a cancellation request from the bride's email at 11:34am, so we did not include her on the rest of the emails being sent out.
BRIDE: We ghosted her
VENUE: We were always readily available to her via email, text, phone, and communicated with her on many occasions. On March 17th, the bride emailed us with instructions to no longer communicate with her.

Also, the user who uploaded the video to YouTube isn’t her, it’s someone who screen recorded her stories before she changed her Instagram name and made it private. A true hero.
To be honest, watching this video made me laugh. I thought I would be more angry, but I just cannot stop laughing at how delusional this bratty little girl is. She truly looks and sounds so stupid, and her mannerisms and tone of voice read like someone doing satire of someone who's never been told no before. I cannot believe this is real. So hard to believe that anyone could lack this much self awareness.

UPDATE 7 - The bride’s attorney reached out to the Bert Show to do some damage control, and I guess it worked, because now they’re all team bride. Insane.
Their reasoning was that the phone call was recorded before she went on her smear campaign, which is the stupidest reason to be on her side. If anything, it speaks volumes of the bride’s character that she started the social media attacks AFTER that conversation where the venue was approaching her with tact and grace.
One of the girls on the Bert Show is also team bride because she thinks that venues should refund their brides should they choose to cancel. That’s just not how the wedding industry works, and she’s clearly very misinformed on what expectations people should have for cancelling their wedding with vendors rather than rescheduling. If you cancel, you lose your money. If you reschedule, you don’t. It’s that simple. How disappointing that they’re being manipulated to sympathize with the bride. I thought they would be smarter than that. No wonder she reacted so poorly to being told “no”—looks like daddy’s money can just pay off an attorney to influence people’s opinions of this girl, regardless of how abhorrent her behavior is. This kind of validation is exactly WHY this bride is the way she is in the first place, and why people will continue to behave this way forever. If you have money, you can get away with anything!

HERE IS **VIDEO** OF HER ASKING PEOPLE TO SHARE HER WEBSITE!!!UPDATE 4 - She’s now deleted her Instagram (or at the very least changed her username to something else), put a password on her wedding website, and it looks like her mom has deactivated her Facebook as well. Unfortunately for her, none of this will hide the posts, videos, and phone call that are now permanently on the internet!
They recorded the call because the bride called their wedding planner a See You Next Tuesday and the mom berated the owner at 10pm the night before! They probably knew that if they needed to use their Bridezilla clause they better have some records. The venue owner may have been on good behavior, but if you look at their reviews it sounds like that's how she really is.
So it looks like the bride convinced Imgur to take the gallery down! It had over 25,000 views! Unlucky for her though, the internet is FOREVER!
She inspired me enough to not only re-upload it, but to go through my huge database of screenshots and add some more juicy tea! I found more comments of her out right lying, her limousine company claiming she made a fraudulent chargeback on them, a family member signing her guestbook telling her how ashamed they are, and more!

Here was my first post where I asked for packing feedback, and I’m super thankful for everyone’s ideas and input! For example, I didn’t know of the brand Rip Skirt, but my knee length skirt was perfect for all the mega hot days in Cambodia and visiting religious sites. At the suggestion of other users, I also had a few items of clothing I wore to stay warm in San Francisco, but then sent home with my partner when it was time for me to go to Asia, and that worked perfectly. Every item I ultimately brought had a purpose and use multiple times through my trip, and that was really satisfying. There was maybe one cloth headband and my travel washcloth I didn’t use as much as I thought, but that was truly it and they hardly took any space. There were also a few damp and chilly nights where I wished I had a cozy hoodie or sweater, but wearing my heat tech shirt and Turkish towel as a wrap under my Patagonia jacket absolutely worked. I will confess that my one bag did become bags two after the first week, as I bought a handmade tote bag in Cambodia and used that for all my souvenirs and shopping the remainder of the trip. But as a previously chronic over-packer, one bagging for this solo trip is an accomplishment I’m quite proud of! HOWEVER, I am now struggling to pack for a trip to Spain and Paris that I leave for in 2 days, because it’s much cooler and I do care more about how I look in Europe than I did sweating and hiking around Asia 😂 ~ so my journey as a new one bagger continues lol |

The Project: I currently have an ensuite washroom on my master bedroom and a nearby unused bedroom. I'm looking to convert the ensuite to a walk-through linen closet space and use the then next room attached as a large bathroom. I've attached a couple photos of the renovation plan drawn out and I'm happy to do much of the work myself but I'd like some advice in a couple areas. Aside from the main project pieces, I intend to complete a makeover renovation on the main bathroom in the house, which is currently adjacently attached to the ensuite, and as such will be involved in the overall project.
Additional Details: This is a main-floor project with an unfinished basement laundry room below, all of the existing plumbing is/can be exposed. The attic is a crawl-space style with mixed kinds of insulation, I have additional electrical projects in rooms approximately 30 feet away that I'm considering completing at the same time as this renovation. These are in no particular order but figured numbering points would make it easier for folks to reply.

Okay so around 6 months ago I got bedbugs. And this wasn't your typical case of bedbugs.
This all started after I stayed at an Airbnb. The first night I stayed in the airbnb, I got bites, but thought they were mosquito bites. When I left, the bites seemed to stop, but after I'd been home a few days, I noticed more. It started out as one or two bites every week and I work in the outdoors so I had originally assumed that I was just getting typical mosquito bites. I did notice right away that they didn't feel like how my mosquito bites normally feel, but I brushed it off because it seemed like the only reasonable explanation.
When I took some time off from work, and I wasn't in the outdoors anymore, and was STILL getting the bites, I thought it might be bedbugs. I messaged the two people I had stayed in the Airbnb with, asking them if they had experienced any of the same symptoms, and they denied noticing anything themselves. They even contacted the Airbnb host to let them know I was getting bites and to check the Airbnb. I received the information that the Airbnb host said that they couldn't find anything when they searched.
At this point, I was puzzled because I was getting bites and I wasn't reacting like I normally would to mosquito bites yet I had countlessly searched my room and torn apart everything multiple times and had found absolutely nothing. I vacuumed and washed my sheets and fried everything in the dryer. And for some reason every week I would still seem to get just around only three bites.
I returned to work and went an entire month like this, thinking that the mosquitoes were just going crazy on me and I was reacting differently.
At that point, I just decided that it wasn't bedbugs, so I stopped checking. That was until I found my cat playing with one. It was a pretty small bug and he was batting it around and I immediately trapped it in a bag and took a picture and identified it with like a bug identifying app. It told me right away that it was a bedbug, and I almost was relieved to finally have an answer.
I taped the bug in the bag to my fridge, and got to work inspecting every seam, every crease and every crack and everything I owned. I was perplexed because I couldn't find ANYTHING. And it wasn't that I wasn't looking hard enough. I checked EVERYWHERE. I sat down with every single piece of clothing that I owned and a headlamp and followed every thread looking for them. I went through every shoebox in my closet and inspected every paper of every book, anywhere they could slip into. I checked all my furniture. I checked other rooms of the house. I checked couch cushions, electronics, outlets, dresser drawers and hinges, and I checked throw pillows. Nothing.
It wasn't until I lifted my entire mattress and took apart my bedframe that I found the second bug. It was crawling along one of the under posts. I popped it in a different bag and then began cleaning and frying absolutely everything once again.
The next day, I let my landlord know that I found two bedbugs, but nothing else. They got a professional inspector to come right away, and he spent hours in my apartment, doing everything I had done to look for them, and he still found absolutely nothing. In fact, they told me that if I had not saved the bedbugs in bags and shown it to them, they would not have believed me. The inspector took my bugs to test them, and he said he would get back to me soon.
I continued to launder everything constantly, and dry everything on the highest heat setting of my dryer. I bought a full proof mattress bag and pillow covers with tight zippers that were certifiably bedbug-proof.
The inspector got back to me, and said that my two bedbugs were both males and so they had not been able to reproduce. He said that that's probably why I've been dealing with them for two months and why I hadn't seen them multiply.
I rejoiced at this! because I thought it was over.
I spent the next month with absolutely no bites. Not a single one. After that, I stopped the rigorous cleaning.
I was actually set to move houses about a month and a half after the inspector originally came to my apartment. So, I started to pack my stuff up about two weeks before the move and that's when I noticed two bites, both on my back. I was in denial for pretty much the whole day until I decided that it was probably best to just admit that they were back.
I went through everything again to check for them, and again found nothing. I was just as thorough as I had been before, and I cleaned and dried everything once again.
I decided that it was too close to the move to take any chances, and ditched my entire bedframe, since that's where I found one of the bugs in the first place.
This actually seemed to work! I was able to continue cleaning constantly the week up until the move and once I was in my new apartment, I didn't have any more bites... for two months.
The next 2 bites showed up on my chest and my neck.
There are three important parts about this part of the story. One: the bites showed up a day after I slept at one of my parent's house. Two: when I moved, I brought one of my pillows from my old apartment to that parent's house to add to my bed there. Three: I own purple (the brand) pillows, which have an almost grid-like rubber removable casing that has lots of holes where bedbugs could hide.
At first, I thought that they were in my new apartment. But I quickly determined that this wasn't the case, as I bought completely new linens and had been so thorough to get rid of them. I just thought it was impossible.
After running through everything in my head about a million times, I decided that the purple pillow from my old apartment that I decided to bring to my parent's house when I moved, must have somehow not gotten hot enough in the dryer, and it still had bedbugs.
So I went crazy at that parent's house in my room, cleaning everything just like before. I bought another mattress incasement, more pillow covers, and superheated everything I possibly could once again. It was exhausting at this point.
When I did everything I could, I just lived my life and waited, hoping I wouldn't get any more bites. I wasn't able to tell for a while because I didn't stay at that parents house anytime soon after that.
So there was a solid three weeks where I just wasn't sure if they were still there at my room at my parent's, but was sleeping in my own apartment, and not getting any more bites. This seem to confirm to me that they had been at that parent's house, and I wasn't mistaking them to be in my room at my own apartment.
As I previously mentioned before, I work in the outdoors, and over the past week, I worked three pretty long shifts in areas with lots of still water and around high mosquito times. I was wearing all long sleeves, baggy clothes, and long pants with not much skin showing. I'm also severely allergic to mosquito bites and can feel them bite me, and immediately feel as they're swelling up.
Today, two days after my last shift, I noticed another bite on my left bicep. When I left, the bites seemed to stop, but after I'd been home a few days, I noticed more. I did notice right away that they didn't feel like how my mosquito bites normally feel, but I brushed it off because it seemed like the only reasonable explanation.
When I took some time off from work, and I wasn't in the outdoors anymore, and was STILL getting the bites, I thought it might be bedbugs. I messaged the two people I had stayed in the Airbnb with, asking them if they had experienced any of the same symptoms, and they denied noticing anything themselves. They even contacted the Airbnb host to let them know I was getting bites and to check the Airbnb. I received the information that the Airbnb host said that they couldn't find anything when they searched.
At this point, I was puzzled because I was getting bites and I wasn't reacting like I normally would to mosquito bites yet I had countlessly searched my room and torn apart everything multiple times and had found absolutely nothing. I vacuumed and washed my sheets and fried everything in the dryer. And for some reason every week I would still seem to get just around only three bites.
I returned to work and went an entire month like this, thinking that the mosquitoes were just going crazy on me and I was reacting differently.
At that point, I just decided that it wasn't bedbugs, so I stopped checking. That was until I found my cat playing with one. It was a pretty small bug and he was batting it around and I immediately trapped it in a bag and took a picture and identified it with like a bug identifying app. It told me right away that it was a bedbug, and I almost was relieved to finally have an answer.
I taped the bug in the bag to my fridge, and got to work inspecting every seam, every crease and every crack and everything I owned. I was perplexed because I couldn't find ANYTHING. And it wasn't that I wasn't looking hard enough. I checked EVERYWHERE. I sat down with every single piece of clothing that I owned and a headlamp and followed every thread looking for them. I went through every shoebox in my closet and inspected every paper of every book, anywhere they could slip into. I checked all my furniture. I checked other rooms of the house. I checked couch cushions, electronics, outlets, dresser drawers and hinges, and I checked throw pillows. Nothing.
It wasn't until I lifted my entire mattress and took apart my bedframe that I found the second bug. It was crawling along one of the under posts. I popped it in a different bag and then began cleaning and frying absolutely everything once again.
The next day, I let my landlord know that I found two bedbugs, but nothing else. They got a professional inspector to come right away, and he spent hours in my apartment, doing everything I had done to look for them, and he still found absolutely nothing. In fact, they told me that if I had not saved the bedbugs in bags and shown it to them, they would not have believed me. The inspector took my bugs to test them, and he said he would get back to me soon.
I continued to launder everything constantly, and dry everything on the highest heat setting of my dryer. I bought a full proof mattress bag and pillow covers with tight zippers that were certifiably bedbug-proof.
The inspector got back to me, and said that my two bedbugs were both males and so they had not been able to reproduce. He said that that's probably why I've been dealing with them for two months and why I hadn't seen them multiply.
I rejoiced at this! because I thought it was over.
I spent the next month with absolutely no bites. Not a single one. After that, I stopped the rigorous cleaning.
I was actually set to move houses about a month and a half after the inspector originally came to my apartment. So, I started to pack my stuff up about two weeks before the move and that's when I noticed two bites, both on my back. I was in denial for pretty much the whole day until I decided that it was probably best to just admit that they were back.
I went through everything again to check for them, and again found nothing. I was just as thorough as I had been before, and I cleaned and dried everything once again.
I decided that it was too close to the move to take any chances, and ditched my entire bedframe, since that's where I found one of the bugs in the first place.
This actually seemed to work! I was able to continue cleaning constantly the week up until the move and once I was in my new apartment, I didn't have any more bites... for two months.
The next 2 bites showed up on my chest and my neck.
There are three important parts about this part of the story. One: the bites showed up a day after I slept at one of my parent's house. Two: when I moved, I brought one of my pillows from my old apartment to that parent's house to add to my bed there. Three: I own purple (the brand) pillows, which have an almost grid-like rubber removable casing that has lots of holes where bedbugs could hide.
At first, I thought that they were in my new apartment. But I quickly determined that this wasn't the case, as I bought completely new linens and had been so thorough to get rid of them. I just thought it was impossible.
After running through everything in my head about a million times, I decided that the purple pillow from my old apartment that I decided to bring to my parent's house when I moved, must have somehow not gotten hot enough in the dryer, and it still had bedbugs.
So I went crazy at that parent's house in my room, cleaning everything just like before. I bought another mattress incasement, more pillow covers, and superheated everything I possibly could once again. It was exhausting at this point.
When I did everything I could, I just lived my life and waited, hoping I wouldn't get any more bites. I wasn't able to tell for a while because I didn't stay at that parents house anytime soon after that.
So there was a solid three weeks where I just wasn't sure if they were still there at my room at my parent's, but was sleeping in my own apartment, and not getting any more bites. This seem to confirm to me that they had been at that parent's house, and I wasn't mistaking them to be in my room at my own apartment.
As I previously mentioned before, I work in the outdoors, and over the past week, I worked three pretty long shifts in areas with lots of still water and around high mosquito times. I was wearing all long sleeves, baggy clothes, and long pants with not much skin showing. I'm also severely allergic to mosquito bites and can feel them bite me, and immediately feel as they're swelling up.

Edit dated 4/5/24: I FOUND IT! ONE GIANT MALE BEDBUG THIS WHOLE TIME. I WAS RIGHT. THE WHOLE TIME.
About a week ago a got a fat bite on my neck. Took apart my bed today to end the madness. Accidentally squished the guy while stacking my wood base panels. Him, and my blood is a little squished spot on the wood.
Perhaps the madness is over. I will wait to see if I can either find more or if I will get more bites.
Thinking (and praying) it was just him, as it's been about 4 months since I've been getting this one bite every 2-3 weeks pattern thing, and I'm pretty sure they would have multiplied in those months if they could have. Hence why I believe he's male. We

I’m eventually planning on getting a new lamp shade cause the one I have is moldy. I can’t get rid of the lamp because it was my great grandmother’s. There’s only one other working outlet by the window, the other outlet is behind the couch and being used by the couch (it has built in USB ports).
Also I have cats!
I would eventually like to get a sitting chair but I want a small really comfy one. My curtains are green linen but eventually I want green velvet.

Hello everyone,
I've visited Vegas twice since my visit in Spring of 2023. Thought I'd share some highlights and experiences here.
Transportation.
Unlike my earlier visit I skipped the car rental. I took a taxi from the airport to my hotel both trips and would highly recommend it. Even if the line is long, it still moves along fairly briskly, and there's someone telling you what spot to stand at so you don't bunch up. (And even if the sweet little old lady in front of you gets tired and jumps in the first cab she sees, don't worry - just take her spot and another taxi will pull up to you.)
I tended to use UbeLyft when traveling from the hotel to another destination and back. No issues with this either, just be sure you have a general idea of the pickup location before hailing a ride at a hotel! :)
The monorail is super convenient but can be super annoying at the same time. Obviously convenient in that it will whisk you from Harrah's to MGM Grand in five minutes, but the hike through Harrah's to get to the 'rail though. Seriously, I would guess the walk from the Paris Las Vegas elevators through Horseshoe to the monorail stop is almost 3/4 of a mile.
Hotels.
Stayed four nights at Paris Las Vegas in October. Of course I turned left when I walked in the main entrance, when the front desk was to the right, but that's OK I finally made my way over there an hour or two later (casino design LOL). Instead of closets and a dresser, the TV, mini-fridge, and clothes storage were all housed in a hulking armoire that kinda dominated the room. Room was clean, if a tad bit dated -- I noticed scuff marks on the wallpaper in the corner of the room, but I guess the solution is not to stand in the corner of the room. Yes, there was a mini-fridge but I don't think it was plugged in (outlet was behind said armoire).
Stayed one night at Park MGM and two nights at The Venetian in January. Room at Park MGM was sparse, but had a great view of NYNY/LuxoMandalay Bay and T-Mobile Arena. I definitely want to stay here again and see more of the hotel, restaurants, and the area.
And what can I say about The Venetian? Wandering around completely lost, gawking at all of the stores and restaurants, dodging the skincare salespeople and timeshare hosts, dropping too much money at the casino -- it's the model Vegas experience. Shoutout to the Venezia tower, where I lost all sense of direction until learning to "just take a left at Bouchon."
One thing all three resorts had in common were excellent bathrooms -- super clean, plenty of linens, and hot water at a good pressure.
Dining. Nothing but great experiences -- Mon Ami Gabi, Bobby's Burgers, Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips, a cronut at Dominique Ansel. Buddy V's has great classic Italian cooking, maybe my new fave place. My one off-Strip trip was to Lawry's Prime Rib, and it was fantastic (just a LOT of food).
Entertainment. Saw Blue Man Group, visited the Tutankhamun and Titanic exhibits at Luxor, and saw Postcard from Earth at Sphere. Went up to the Observation Deck at the Eiffel Tower. All thumbs up / would recommend.
Oh and I caught this up-and-coming band called (checks notes) "U2" at Sphere (twice). Keep an eye on them, they're going places.
Exiting The Sphere. Sphere is an awesome experience, 11/10 it's worth it. But don't get in any hurry to leave, especially if you're walking back to the Venetian. First visit it took 30 minutes to get from the doors at the Sphere back to the convention center area. And, I'm 6'5" and I was getting a little claustrophobic in there.
Pool Life. I'm not much of a pool person but it was awfully nice to wander down "early" (before noon) and chill out for an hour or so before the sun really came out and the crowds built up at both Paris LV and Venetian.
Drugstores. Thanks to the wisdom of the sub, this time I stocked up on snacks and drinks at CVS and Walgreens. It's a great suggestion, noting that (a) everyone else knows this tip, so it can get a bit crowded, and the selections may not be that great; (b) I know I saved money but as a solo traveler it may not be worth the walk just to grab one soda (but families / groups? heck yes grab that case of water); and (c) still need a way to keep the drinks cool in the room. I may try bringing one of those grocery store freezer bags next time.
#1 Neato Thing I Learned That Everyone Else Probably Already Knows. The casino ATM / voucher kiosks also break bills! Great for tipping!
#2 Neato Thing I Learned That Everyone Else Probably Already Knows. If you're taking the Mandalay Bay / Luxor / Excalibur tram, there's a "fourth" stop about 50 yards north past the Excalibur stop -- and it exits to directly to the walkways and bridge to NYNY.
Okay this turned out longer than I planned. Gotta admit that I'm kinda Vegas'd out for now -- three trips in ten months is a lot. But I can already envision a fall trip! Gotta long list of more places to visit!

I've visited Vegas twice since my visit in Spring of 2023. Thought I'd share some highlights and experiences here.
Transportation.
Unlike my earlier visit I skipped the car rental. I took a taxi from the airport to my hotel both trips and would highly recommend it. Even if the line is long, it still moves along fairly briskly, and there's someone telling you what spot to stand at so you don't bunch up. (And even if the sweet little old lady in front of you gets tired and jumps in the first cab she sees, don't worry - just take her spot and another taxi will pull up to you.)
I tended to use UbeLyft when traveling from the hotel to another destination and back. No issues with this either, just be sure you have a general idea of the pickup location before hailing a ride at a hotel! :)
The monorail is super convenient but can be super annoying at the same time. Obviously convenient in that it will whisk you from Harrah's to MGM Grand in five minutes, but the hike through Harrah's to get to the 'rail though. Seriously, I would guess the walk from the Paris Las Vegas elevators through Horseshoe to the monorail stop is almost 3/4 of a mile.
Hotels.
Stayed four nights at Paris Las Vegas in October. Of course I turned left when I walked in the main entrance, when the front desk was to the right, but that's OK I finally made my way over there an hour or two later (casino design LOL). Instead of closets and a dresser, the TV, mini-fridge, and clothes storage were all housed in a hulking armoire that kinda dominated the room. Room was clean, if a tad bit dated -- I noticed scuff marks on the wallpaper in the corner of the room, but I guess the solution is not to stand in the corner of the room. Yes, there was a mini-fridge but I don't think it was plugged in (outlet was behind said armoire).
Stayed one night at Park MGM and two nights at The Venetian in January. Room at Park MGM was sparse, but had a great view of NYNY/LuxoMandalay Bay and T-Mobile Arena. I definitely want to stay here again and see more of the hotel, restaurants, and the area.
And what can I say about The Venetian? Wandering around completely lost, gawking at all of the stores and restaurants, dodging the skincare salespeople and timeshare hosts, dropping too much money at the casino -- it's the model Vegas experience. Shoutout to the Venezia tower, where I lost all sense of direction until learning to "just take a left at Bouchon."
One thing all three resorts had in common were excellent bathrooms -- super clean, plenty of linens, and hot water at a good pressure.
Dining. Nothing but great experiences -- Mon Ami Gabi, Bobby's Burgers, Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips, a cronut at Dominique Ansel. Buddy V's has great classic Italian cooking, maybe my new fave place. My one off-Strip trip was to Lawry's Prime Rib, and it was fantastic (just a LOT of food).
Entertainment. Saw Blue Man Group, visited the Tutankhamun and Titanic exhibits at Luxor, and saw Postcard from Earth at Sphere. Went up to the Observation Deck at the Eiffel Tower. All thumbs up / would recommend.
Oh and I caught this up-and-coming band called (checks notes) "U2" at Sphere (twice). Keep an eye on them, they're going places.
Exiting The Sphere. Sphere is an awesome experience, 11/10 it's worth it. But don't get in any hurry to leave, especially if you're walking back to the Venetian. First visit it took 30 minutes to get from the doors at the Sphere back to the convention center area. And, I'm 6'5" and I was getting a little claustrophobic in there.
Pool Life. I'm not much of a pool person but it was awfully nice to wander down "early" (before noon) and chill out for an hour or so before the sun really came out and the crowds built up at both Paris LV and Venetian.
Drugstores. Thanks to the wisdom of the sub, this time I stocked up on snacks and drinks at CVS and Walgreens. It's a great suggestion, noting that (a) everyone else knows this tip, so it can get a bit crowded, and the selections may not be that great; (b) I know I saved money but as a solo traveler it may not be worth the walk just to grab one soda (but families / groups? heck yes grab that case of water); and (c) still need a way to keep the drinks cool in the room. I may try bringing one of those grocery store freezer bags next time.
