2024.05.19 17:00 Potatoskewer22 [24/M] - Searching for the "one" requires patience. Something I thankfully have plenty of š
You know what they say, if at first you don't succeed....... ehhhh something or another. You get the point!
(P.S. pictures of me on my profile)
Searching for the "one" isnt easy, but what can we do aye? First things first, to throw some random bits of info out there about me! (Info dump incoming š)
I'm 24 and biracial! Half Irish and half African/northern Indian, and I'm living in the UK!
I'm approximately 6'0"-6'1" in height and id say an average/kept build. I also have somewhat long-ish hair for a guy, going near my shoulders, it's naturally straight! I also have a well kept somewhat shorter and neat beard :) I also have very fair skin. I guess I took physically more from one side of my heritage šš¤ I'm also a Muslim lad! So just putting that out there too for the sake of it.
I do enjoy binging on junk food but between my high metabolism and my physically active job working as an electrician (which I'm trying to fully establish myself in) I tend to never put any weight on š¤·
So! What am I looking for? Well it's a long shot. I'd like to imagine something like the female version of myself. My other half. Someone I find attractive, kind, easy going, fun to get along with, can hold a conversation without making it feel like a one sided effort and chore. Etc!
Important note!!!
IF you are not from the UK. Be aware relocating doesn't appear to be an option for me currently š
so bear that in mind please. I am open to a potential long distance but again. There's that.
I guess I'm the hopeless romantic type. Fantasising about soulmates, something real, serious, natural and everything great. Is that easy to obtain these days? Bruh. HECK no š but can a guy try? Well, here's to hoping I suppose. Guess only time will tell
Anyone between the ages of 20-27 is welcome! Anyone who wants to actually get to know each other and dreams about something sincere and real! (With some fun stupidity and jokes thrown in there of course, that banter is a mustšæš)
I like a woman with a little bit of confidence ya know? Probably one of the most attractive personality traits, who can hold a conversation and engage with the other person you know? Nothing more off putting than someone who gives single worded dead replies lol
Here's a bit more about me. My hobbies! my hobbies are various. I'd argue I'm an ambivert. Though my main hobbies lean towards something a little more introverted. You have hiking and the likes as well as going out with friends and driving around at night with them, but then you also have gaming which is a huge hobby of mine!! Well probably the thing I do most consistently š
So yeah! There's my shot being let out. I'd say I consider myself to be an honest and open book and would like someone who is open, honest and sincere in the same way!
Oh! And my preferred platform is Snap (:
So. Here's to hoping!

2024.05.19 01:07 Plenty-Foundation-36 Can someone please help me with making a decision. Iām so indecisive and overwhelmed.
I have no idea what I am doing with my life. I am 30 years old and I work as a credit card fraud investigator. You might think Iām making good money but I am broke as a joke (I make 28K a year).
I was trying to do research on how to āmove up the ladderā in this field but I am unsure on how to do that. I have two years of experience in this field and I have been applying to different jobs that have a better salary but I keep getting turned down. I wish I had a bachelors degree (I only have associates degree).
I then think maybe I should go back to the medical field. I was an emergency medical technician for 5 years and I was also studying nursing but I dropped out because of family issues and it all became too much. I keep hearing from my friends that I should go back and finish. I have 1 1/2 years left. I just donāt know.. juggling work full time and nursing school would be the death of me and the student loans would be crazy. Iām poor as it is. I do find nursing interesting though. I wanted to do travel nursing.
Considering how broke I am, I then think maybe I should just join a trade. My brother is an electrician and he is making good money and he is also living in a two bedroom apartment in the city. He said I should do it because it would be fast money and they always give raises. Welding seems interesting too. I heard you can travel too!
I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO INDECISIVE IN MY LIFE. Please help me kind strangers. I feel so foolish with the state of my life right now.

2024.05.18 18:04 seanf999 In a good job and I am unbelievably bored
I'm not asking for medical advise but I do want to say that I have not been diagnosed - it's nigh impossible here in Ireland to get seen to and it's somehow even worse as an adult, but it's a running joke that I have it.
I bumbled my way through to getting a Business degree that I hated and never once studied for. Now I've somehow found myself in a Planning function of a Construction Company.
Passed my probation 2 weeks back with zero issues, even looking at a pay rise, this is the best paying job with the nicest coworkers that I've ever had, oh and I'm devastatingly bored.
I am clawing at the walls looking for something to scratch that itch. I don't know if I need a new hobby or a new job or a new life.
I'd join the military only I have asthma, I feel I need that structure and bit of excitement, that hands on physical hard going work, not just another desk job. Or even join the RAF and becoming a Aircraft Tech, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.
I was an apprentice electrician and I hated that. I worked in Sales, hated that too.
So I don't know where that leaves me..

2024.05.15 20:20 ZestcloseBootThrowRA AITA for throwing how much my husband makes in my brother's face after my brother insulted his career?
I, F27, come from a family of white-collar career people. My Dad 60M owns his own business and my mom 57F is a pediatric surgeon. My older brother M30 is a lawyer and loves to boast about how much money he makes. He is always buying new watches and expensive suits. He also drives a Porsche and is engaged to who will be his third wife.
I've always been more introverted than my brother and I tend to fade into the background. I created and operate my own business and make a more than decent living. My husband is a master electrician, and he owns a very successful business, he makes more than 3x what I do. We are a DINK couple (Double Income, No Kids); however, we keep our income very lowkey and don't spend money like my brother does. My parents are aware of how much my husband makes because we paid for their 35th wedding anniversary getaway and my dad saw the price tag.
We were at Mother's Day on Sunday, and both my brother and I bought nice things for our mother as gifts. He bought her jewelry and I got her a certificate for several hand massages at a spa near the hospital she works at. My mother thanked us, and my brother decided that it would be a good time to brag about how much the necklace cost, looking at my husband and joking about how he could never afford to buy a necklace like the one he got my mother. How my husband could never afford anything on an electrician's wage. He carried on like that until I had enough of him insulting my partner, who worked harder than my brother to get where he's at.
I yelled at my brother to shut up, and that my husband easily makes twice what he does and that he should sit his ass down and be more respectful. "Mother's Day is about mom, not you." were my exact words. After my brother left, soon after I snapped at him, I apologized to my mom, and we went on to have a wonderful dinner, where mom told my husband embarrassing stories about me when I was little.
My husband thanked me for standing up for him and my mom told me she had a lovely night while we were on the phone yesterday and told me she used some of the money on the certificate to get her wrists and fingers massaged after a 10 hour surgery, she told me she was very happy with my gift. My brother's fiancee sent me a tirade of texts blasting me for embarrassing him in front of our parents and calling me an asshole. I feel bad for causing drama but happy I stood up for my husband. AITA?

2024.05.15 03:37 Hot_Pomegranate1773 Iām having a lot of trouble fitting in as a construction worker
I(19) have been working as an electrician for 5 months now and I thought that itād get easier to fit in with my coworkers but itās not. I can socialize with guys just fine outside of work but it feels like I got thrown into the deep-end. Iām working with the most genuine examples of toxic masculinity.
Iām definitely othered and not very well liked by my coworkers. Iām weaker than everyone else and I am seen as the incompetent new guy still. Iām awkward, effeminate, and I donāt know how to talk to these guys. If they were women I feel like I could get along fine.
There are also instances where the guys I work with are scumbags. We are working on appartmenrs near a college and young ladies often walk by. They literally do the asshole construction whistle thing at women while we stand on the side of the road. The way they talk about woman and their bodies is fucked up. Their politics are fucked. They are homophobic and Iāve caught transphobic statements too. They are immature. Listening to men my dadās age make dick jokes and gay jokes is embarrassing.
I will say in their defense, I do enjoy not having to censor myself and I can say the word fuck to my boss which is cool.
I also look super young. People give me a lot of shit for looking 14 and Iāve heard people say āwho let the kid on the jobsiteā and āhe mustāve lied about his ageā
This is mostly a rant but if anyone has any advice, please save me. Iām losing my mind.

2024.05.14 22:56 Temporary_Nebula3712 Joining the Air Force Reserves for the training to get a good full-time job?
Pre-emptive TL;DR: Is joining the Air Force Reserves with the primary purpose of receiving tech school training that will land me a good full-time job a viable strategy, and if so, which AFSC's would be the best choices for me to achieve this goal?
I'm 36 years old, married, no kids, in the Atlanta, GA area.
I've been a cop for the last 12 years. I quit a few months ago because almost every time someone else quit or was fired, I was given their job to do in addition to my own, and I was on-call 24/7 and receiving an average of 19 calls per week, mostly during the middle of the night (for no pay)... I was covering 4 full-time different job roles at the time I quit. I covered a minimum of at least two separate full-time jobs my entire last year at that department.
I haven't been able to find a decent job since I quit. I'm making some money doing remote part-time work, but it's not enough, and I'm honestly extremely bored not having enough to do day-to-day. I've been a damn good house husband and my yard and property look great, but I need to get out of this house more often. I made almost $100k last year, and I'm routinely getting rejected for jobs even at $50k or lower. I have extensive experience leading and managing people and units, but it doesn't seem to matter since I don't have any private sector experience. I really don't want to return to law enforcement at all, because my experience, training, and skillset prevent me from being able to stay where I actually enjoy policing, which is patrolling on the streets. I'm not originally from the Atlanta area - I grew up 2 hours from here. I can get a job easily back in my hometown from all the connections I made over the years, but that's too far to commute and it would be financially irresponsible to sell my house here and buy a new one there due to the interest rate climb and all the remodeling I've done in my current home.
I'm considering the Air Force Reserves because 1. I literally have nothing else going on and could easily accommodate the time away at basic training and tech school and 2. I'm hoping if I choose the right AFSC that after tech school I could get hired for a full-time job based on the training from the tech school for that AFSC. I'm aware that there are also full-time roles for Air Force Reserves, but I'm assuming those are difficult to get, especially for someone without prior active-duty service. 3. I want to stay in my house in the Atlanta area for the long term, but I can't sit around applying to infinite jobs for an indefinite period of time. Being away for basic training and tech school is fine, as long as I'm not moving away for good.
My wife is on board with this idea, so there wouldn't be any conflict there. I'm in good shape and health, and have always considered the annual police PT to be a joke, so there are no issues there. I'd love to go active-duty if I hadn't bought a house here 2 years ago. My wife works remotely, so it would be feasible, but the biggest appeal that joining the Reserves offers is the fact that we could stay in our current house instead of moving every few years. We have discussed the possibility of me being activated and deployed, and that's something we can handle if it comes to it, but that's much better than the guaranteed moves that going active-duty would require. If I do join the Reserves, I would be signing up with every intention of doing at least 20 years. I do have a 4-year degree in Education, but from what I've read so far, getting a commissioned officer spot as a civilian seems highly unlikely, especially since I don't have any degree, let alone an advanced degree, in any of the appropriate fields, so I'm only looking at enlisted AFSC's.
Based on everyone's experience, do y'all think that I could use Air Force Reserves tech school to get a decent full-time job?
If so, what AFSC would you recommend as the best path toward a good job? I don't even care what I do at this point, I just want to work, preferably in a career field where I can start at $50k or more with room to grow towards $75-90k in the next five years. I'm interested in cyber security, and being close to the airport in Atlanta I feel like something regarding aircraft repair and maintenance might make sense for me to find a quick job, but I truly just want a new career and don't care what it is. I'm hoping some of you have enough experience with yourselves, friends, or people in your units to provide some insight on which AFSC choices yield the best results on the job market.
I'm considering the following AFSC's:
2T2X1 - Air Transportation - Could potentially land me a job at an airport.
1P0X1 - Aircrew Flight Equipment - Could potentially land me a job at an airport.
2T3X7 - Fleet Management - Could potentially help land me a job with a shipping or trucking company.
2T1X1 - Ground Transportation - Could potentially help land me a warehouse or mechanic job.
6C0X1 - Contracting - Could potentially help land me a job with a construction company.
3E5X1 - Engineering - Could potentially help land me a job with a construction or surveying company.
6F0X1 - Financial Management and Comptroller - Could potentially land me a job in HR for a number of companies or as an auditor or in a financing company.
3F0X1 - Personnel - Could potentially land me a job in HR.
1D7X1 - Cyber Security - Could potentially land me a job in Cyber Security or IT Helpdesk.
1B4X1 - Cyber Warfare Operations - Could potentially land me a job in Cyber Security or IT Helpdesk.
1N4X1 - Cyber Intelligence Analyst - Could potentially land me a job in Cyber Security or IT Helpdesk.
9S100 - Scientific Applications Specialist - Could potentially land me a job in a federal or state crime lab (I have extensive experience in forensic evidence collection and analysis from my law enforcement career, too, but mostly on-the-job training)
3E0X2 - Electrical Power Production - Could potentially land me a job as an electrician.
3E0X1 - Electrical Systems - Could potentially land me a job as an electrician.
3E1X1 - Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration - Could potentially land me a job in HVAC.
3E2X1 - Pavements and Construction Equipment - Could potentially land me a job with a construction or paving company.
3E3X1 - Structural - Could potentially land me a job with a construction company.
2T3X1 - Mission Generation Vehicular Equipment Maintenance - Could potentially land me a job as a mechanic.
2T3X7 - Vehicle Management - Could potentially land me a job as a mechanic.
2A6X6 - Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Systems - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
2A6X4 - Aircraft Fuel Systems - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
2A6X5 - Aircraft Hydraulic Systems - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
2A3X3 - Tactical Aircraft Maintenance - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
2A7X1 - Aircraft Metals Technology - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
2A7X3 - Aircraft Structural Maintenance - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
2A7X2 - Nondestructive Inspection - Could potentially land me a job at an airport or aircraft production/repair facility.
1C7X1 - Airfield Management - Could potentially land me a job at an airport.
4V0X1 - Optometry - Could potentially land me a job at an optometry office.
4P0X1 - Pharmacy Technician - Could potentially land me a job at a pharmacy.
5J0X1 - Paralegal - Could potentially land me a job at a law firm.
Clearly, I'm not being picky here. Just to reiterate, I would be staying in the Reserves for 20 years unless circumstances dictated otherwise. I'm more than happy to put in the monthly/annual training in addition to a full-time job. I'm aware that I'd likely be far older than most or all of the others in basic training and that I'd be measured by expectations geared towards me being a decade or more younger than I actually am. My parents talked me out of the military twice (after high school and after college), so I've always been interested. I've served my local communities for over a decade, and now I'm looking to serve my country while also leveraging that service into a new career.
I plan on talking to a recruiter soon, but I'd rather have a good understanding of how I want to proceed prior to doing so, and I'd also like to narrow the above list down. Are any of the above AFSC choices likely to lead to a decently paying full-time job soon after basic training/tech school? Thanks in advance to everyone for taking the time to read and respond.

2024.05.12 17:53 anally_ExpressUrself As a non-electrician, should I be going to big box stores or electrical supply stores for parts?
I had an inspector tell me I should consider buying parts at the local electrical supply store. I tried, but the experience was pretty awful. They were clearly unhappy that I was there as a non-electrician. I asked if they carried any plastic bushings that could be added retroactively to a knockout in a load center (I'm trying to bring existing circuits up to code) and the guy responded that they don't give free advice, I should hire an electrician instead. Okay, I guess that's a "no". Then I asked for a knockout cover to cover a 2" hole and they sold me a cover that said 2" on it, but in hindsight I can see they were joking with each other how it wasn't going to fit. They guy reminded me out the door that they don't take returns.
I used to think it was better to support a local electrical supply store, like going to a local bike shop. But after this experience, I think I'm better off at Home Depot, where I ended up getting the parts I needed for half the price, without needing to talk to anyone.

2024.05.12 11:13 guiltyofnothing āYou sound like a whiner. Just an absolute whiny little shit at 43. It emanates from you.ā A 43 year-old 3D artist with no experience in construction complains to /r/construction that no one will hire him
The Context:
A 43 year-old award-winning 3D artist with no construction experience makes a post to
/construction bemoaning how hard it is to break into the trades. The thread has been deleted, but
still can be read in full here. His post begins:
I can't get into the trades for no reason that I can discern. 24 years work experience, successful, in an unrelated field. I speak well, no record. I'm eager, have spent time consulting in relevant fields.
It's not random, there's interviews, people make connections, sons get on the job, etc.
I'm white and male and those two qualities have made it impossible for me to get a job at 43 making $18 an hour as a helper to spend most of my time getting coffee?
What am I supposed to do? Banditry? Walk into any shop and it's "why am I going to sponsor you?" and it's not because they don't think I'll do the job well, it's "What is in it for me?"
Unions are meant to protect generational labor while putting window dressing up begging alternate ethnicity and genders or whatever else is on their list. It has nothing to do with who will be the best electrician or carpenter in 6 years.
Good luck guys, glad you have a place in society.
He is heavily criticized for this, with many pointing out that there are likely other reasons he has failed to find gainful employment in his field of choice. OOP then proceeds to get into multiple fights, mentions that heās won several awards at Cannes, and pushes back on almost all advice given to him.
For readabilityās sake, I have linked directly to Unddit for all of OOPās (now-deleted) comments.
The Drama:
Is OOP too late? No experience? You're 43? I wouldn't hire you either. It's a young man's game. You're a couple of decades too late.
Putting age into it is literally illegal. You're making my point for me. These public avenues are supposed to make you equal in the law, not add layers of insulation for age discrimination. Hopefully you're not an employer.
Ok we will take age out of it. You sound more aggravating than ten Mexicans of any vintage.
This field is not for you. Go back to tech or whatever.
I sound aggravating when I'm angry at your profession which in some form directly represents you? Go figure.
No, you sound aggravating because you took to Reddit to whine about Mexicans because you think you DESERVE a job that youāre wholly unqualified for. A person of any race, creed, color, or gender with any practical experience is a better hire than you are.
[Continued:] I took to Reddit because I work in PR and I know how to get the mob opinion which is exactly what I got. I wasn't farming for likes, I knew exactly what this would do and I got exactly what I wanted out of it. I'm applying to "no skills needed" adult programs and am clearly among the top qualified for the job and I'm at the tail end of a long effort of trying to obtain such positions. The answer from shops is "what are you going to do for me" and they don't mean it in the are you going to do the job-type questions. These are "golden tickets" they use as collateral. The public avenues are exactly what I'm saying. You don't get to 90% non-white recruitment as something you parade on a website without excluding a certain segment of people. White people's avenue are through these shops and I'm excluded because people like you think like you thought in your original post. Good day, hope it wasn't too aggravating of an experience. Enjoy the slice you staked for yourself and acted self-righteous about.
You've repeatedly said your skills have nothing to do with construction & have no direct experience, yet still insist that you're "the most qualified". So yes, the 19 y.o. brown kid with 6 months is more qualified. Hell, I wouldn't hire you either. If you're leaving a job of $200k for peanuts because you're "not happy", there's no way I would believe that you will stay in a new field where the New Guy gets shat on constantly. Especially not with the attitude you clearly have.
If you're serious about getting into the trades, go to a trade school. It's a "back door" to getting in with a shop while also getting the knowledge you'll need.
I'm a 3D artist who has had construction clients, I've also had peripheral experience related to trades. Not in trades which is different. Can an engineer build a house? No? Does he know things about that house? Yes? This isn't hard and my attitude on my thread isn't me no matter how much you wish it were. You can walk away with your self-righteous opinions but I'm exactly who I say I am and I can see this bullshit clearly with my own eyes. You're not going to change any of that and you're clearly not going to learn from my experience. Fuck this shit. Yeah, I do have attitude now, look at the responses. It's clear. Age. Private places won't hire me for that reason alone and the public avenues widdle me out by race and gender on the final rounds. I've come to learn that the white kid spots in those places are things of value too. Everyone has a relative.
Buddy. You don't know the difference between a P-1 and a P-2 and you're too arrogant to listen to instructions, get educated or take criticism.
Why the fuck would anyone hire you?
Nice how you can describe me as arrogant without even knowing me.
Well when that's how you present yourself, how else am I supposed to view you?
Others object to OOPās protestations that his being a white male was a handicap: i stopped reading when you said being a white male is why no ones hiring you lmao
Innit š. I can't get work in a sector I've no experience it must be everyone else's fault
If I were a 23 year old woman who dropped out of HS with a GED I'd have gotten a sponsored union position the second I showed up. You can't tell me that's not true, you also can't look at me in real life and say I'm anything but what I'm saying. That's the reality of the situation, public avenues are excluded me very specifically for no reason having to do with actually being me.
Itās not true
It's not? You mean there's not quotas for these things that are used as actual hiring criteria in the places that feed the union shops in NYC? State and city funding isn't directly tied to their ability to hire these specific groups of people? Because, that's the literal system. You can say it's not true, but they'll tell you to your face and it's broadcast right on their website. If that's the actual system, despite you saying it's not true, that would suck. The age thing is repeated countless times on this thread. People have 2 consistent things, my age and my "attitude" for complaining for this being what it is. That's what people think, they're being honest. The race and gender thing, I dunno, I guess the state legislature? I don't even know.
Clearly you haven't been paying attention. If the guy who owns the shop is white and his kids are white and his nephews are white and his nephews screw up friend is white and they're all in the club and the union is getting quotas from the city they need to fill in order to receive funding that makes all public avenues inaccessible to white males, those positions are filled. That's how we do things these days. Check out places like "Construction Skills" where they brag about 90% non-white recruitment, etc. Well is the city 90% non-white? No? Are white people applying? Yes? You can pretend there's not a correlation here, but it's darn clear. Talk to anyone trying to get into the trades and on the men universally agree the best leg up you can gave is to be a woman. You might not want to live in this world, but it's the world we live in.
this entire post makes it clear that you just have a shitty attitude. i can count with my fingers the amount of women construction workers ive encountered in almost 8 years of being in the trades. this is very much a YOU problem, bud.
Another asserts that OOPās mentality is to blame: Itās the insufferable victim mentality. Iāve worked with guys like you and they never last.
See, you just don't encounter very many people who have worked 90 hours a week looking to make a career switch and rose to management in that time. We have the confidence of knowing who we are ahead of time. You can assign whatever you want to it, this is my experience. If half the guys don't have a license and the actual job requirement is "who will work the hardest, get the coffee order right, show up 30 minutes early and don't have to worry about smelling like weed" I'm #1, yet, I seem to be last. Perhaps this is someone who has specifically been on high functioning, complicated teams for his entire care
Youāve never worked 90 hours in a week in your life.
I have Cannes Lions awards, do you even know what that is? Try and tell me I never worked 90 hours, it's my defining feature as a worker. The biggest complaint about me is I care too much and that creates turmoil, over my career I've had to moderate caring about the end product and the client. Address what I'm saying, don't make shit up. Making shit up does nothing.
Letās rephrase that. Youāve never WORKED in your life. Iāve done 90 hours a week pipelining. Thatās work. And it was 15 years ago for me. Iād be fucking crippled if I tried that today. I got a back surgery as a reward for my efforts. Whatever annoying ass shit youāre up to is for soft handed tittybabies who donāt actually create anything of value. Youāre one of the non-essentials.
OOPās tone is critiqued: You sound like an entitled know-it-all. I would assume that comes through clearly in interviews, along with a dose of racism. Nobody wants to hire the guy who's been to 40 superbowls and knows everyone and everything. They can't be taught and are a drain.
I think I sound like someone who is sick of this shit and you identify with the parties I'm railing against. But, you know, we all have different adjectives for things.
There it finally comes out. Politics!!! It only took 2 hours of this guy complaining and boom POLITICS. Itās always about the āpartyā you choose. What a joke
Buddy, I just wanted to paint walls or frame a wall.
But you turned it into something else. I get that you're frustrated but you're being "that guy". The chip on your shoulder is turning people off.
Yah man, don't listen to all the people telling you how insufferable you sound, it's not you it's them. That's why you'll never get into the trades..
Another gets down to it: How much experience do you have in the trades?
How much experience am I supposed to have for no experience required helper positions specifically for adults?
It's uncommon to get hired into the trades anywhere without any real world experience
So only people with real world experience get hired. How does one get that real world experience, genius? These are helper positions, no experience required, adult programs. You're telling me I need the thing they're specifically trying to come in there and provide an opportunity for not having. This is madness.
If you invite someone whose nearly 50 with zero experience onto a worksite he's gonna hurt himself. You can learn to build by just flipping houses or build a deck. As for my trade it's unusual for someone to be hired after 35 even with trades experience.
[Continued:] I'm a backpacker with a BMI of 19 in the best shape of my life. Age discrimination is also literally illegal. You're literally spouting the bullshit we had to go in and make laws over because middle aged men were getting disenfranchised.
Names are called: You sound like a whiner. Just an absolute whiny little shit at 43. It emanates from you, and no one likes whiners on jobsites, so it makes sense you can't get hired as a no-experience whiner.
I'm the person who keeps his mouth shut knowing you're a dick with an authority problem who speaks up needing to prove size. I get my job done, don't say a word, laugh at your jokes, then go home. When I whine it's to my boss, about others not pulling their weight. I got bosses willing to attest to that, in spades. We all know things, sometimes we don't know the thing we think we know. I think I got this situation pegged though. Pretty stupid for you to engage, I know me and I get to base my opinion on the evidence you provided. You don't know me and are opining on a thread of me complaining saying I'm a complainer. Huh, wow, genius, you got me, I complained! I know what I offer, what my weaknesses and strengths are. I obsessively work at them on a daily basis. All of this is true, and everything I've written here is my story. Apologies if a single complain to you reads perpetual whiner. I'm glad you've found mechanisms in life to let you believe you're in control and able to exert authority in comfortable places. It emanates from you, who you are. I come on advertising no skill, I come on with a complaint, those are your accusations. I came in with them, so, bravo, figured me out and really added to the conversation.
Keep wondering why no one wants to hire you bro- Don't worry, it's literally everyone elsewho's wrong!
I'm being told it's because it's my age, race and gender, to my face. Whether that's right or wrong, up to you to decide for yourself.

2024.05.11 02:36 NotSuspec666 Why I'm switching from HVAC to Electrical
Guys, electricians are so freakin cool. I see them in their matching snapbacks and their long flowy hair and I cant help but feel a bit jealous. I wanna be that dude, for real. This morning I found one of their hats in a crawlspace so I took advantage of the opportunity and quickly put it in my car. On the drive home I was like, fuck it, I decided to put it on and I felt this overwhelming suave to me. I rolled down my window at the next red right and next to me was this car full of beautiful women. I smiled and gave them a wink and they went feral. No joke. The blonde one in the back shouted her instagram handle at me and told me to hit her up later that night. This shit NEVER happens to me. When the light turned green I sped off in my red 2003 PT Cruiser and for a moment I felt on top of the world. But then tragedy struck... I had my head out the window still glazing at that car full of sexy ladies and the hat flew off my head and got trampled by the truck behind me. I was devastated... That 5 minutes of wearing the hat was one of the greatest moments of my adult life.
HVAC is aight I guess. I will miss the high I get when I huff refrigerant but tbh it doesnt even come close to the high I got for that brief moment in the PT Cruiser. If I became an electrician I wouldnt have to put in another hard days work ever again. Running wire is so freaking easy. Its like ripping the wire out of the doctors office across the street but just in reverse. I also want to have the authority to throw a fit at any and all inconvenience. Closest parking spot is taken? Move it or im leaving. Too cold? Not gunna start work until theres heat. Attic too hot? Im cutting the flex duct and blowing that cool air on my face. Dont get me started on the wages. WOW. I saw on indeed that they are hiring apprentice electricians in my area starting at $19 and hour. Thats a whole dollar more than me. 2007 PT Cruiser convertible here I come! Do you think the trade is for me? Should I go Union?

2024.05.09 14:58 CountAsgar I brainstormed a silly little idea for modern-day magicless D&D/PF classes.
DISCLAIMER: Don't take this too seriously, it's meant to be more of a joke and exaggeration, started almost entirely by the mental image of three hardened criminals sitting in a bar, pondering that they still absolutely need to recruit a Catholic priest and some band guy or their next bank robbery just won't work. No offense intended towards any actual groups, nor to make light of any social issues. Also, I'm aware there's games with actual modernity-appropriate classes, but the absurdity of a nearly 1:1 port is exactly the point here. Finally, note that I play both D&D (various editions) and PF 1E and 2E, so expect a mixture of classes from either and some cherrypicking of interpretations.
FOREWORD: Style of play I'm imagining similar to Shadowrun or Cyberpunk, with a focus on the underworld, teams of specialists hired by fixers for various jobs of dubious legality, or vigilantism or hustling maybe. If one wanted to be extra absurd, it could also involve travelling the world in a camper van and taking on quests, or getting tasked with an important mission by a head of state (this may work better in a fictional modern-day setting instead of our own world). Class names are meant to be professional slang you'd see in that kind of environment, like Shadowrun's Street Samurai for example, thus justifying the existence of the classes themselves. But since it's supposed to be not cyberpunk, but the present, I deliberately tried to pick names that sound like they could be part of normal conversation too.
Magicless doesn't mean classes don't still have their powers and spells, just that they're explained differently, like by drugs or applied psychology or the like. Think a "wizard" (Pundit) casting a "fireball" by mentally calculating the exact angle they need to shoot a gas pipe to cause an explosion.
Without further ado, the...
CLASSES
Militant (Fighter): Skillful weapons specialists and fighting experts who can handle any threat and stare down the barrel of a gun without flinching. Many are (former) soldiers, mercenaries, or private security, less commonly also from a background in law enforcement or violent crime, but anyone with the right abilities can be a Militant.
Thrasher (Barbarian): Tough guys, muscleheads, and sometimes also bullies, who get what they want by utilizing brutality, fear, and a vicious temper. Thrashers are often gang members and thugs, bikers, delinquents, jocks, pro wrestlers, or particularly dedicated powerlifters. Frequently appearing as a part of highly insular social cliques, they are prone to adopting neotribal mindsets, symbols, and practices.
Blackbelt (Monk): Martial arts and/or ascetic masters (not just disciples or regular practitioners) with almost superhuman control over their own body. Despite the name, these adepts of the physical can pursue any martial arts tradition, as well as freestyle street fighting, pro wrestling, self defense courses, special forces training, parcours, extreme sports, and of course practices such as yoga. While some seek enlightenment or health benefits, others hunger to put their skills to the test in a manner only real combat can provide.
Outlander (Ranger): Armed and dangerous people who thrive in the wilderness. Survivalists, hunters, drifters, particularly experienced outdoorsmen, forest rangers, animal trainers, and sometimes preppers or guerillas are all common candidates. Many Outlanders hold strong convictions, in a cowboyish sort of way, and so they are also found among military special forces or police departments, particularly as handlers to service animals.
Jailbird (Rogue): Multi-talented if often dubious individuals, prized especially as infiltration and security specialists. While they needn't be actual criminals, just in possession of the right talents, many still are of a less than legal disposition, and a brief stint in prison can certainly lead to picking up useful new tricks. Common sub-groups include murderers and serial killers, cat burglars and pickpockets, home invaders, carjackers, hackers, scammers and con artists, smugglers of arms/drugs/etc., as well as urban partisans.
Ideological Crusader (Paladin/Antipaladin): Stalwart defenders and enforcers of a given idea of justice, a social code, or an organization, capable of backing their demands with violence if necessary. They are natural authority figures with an extra edge in doggedness stemming from their strong beliefs. The vast majority of Ideological Crusaders originate in law enforcement (particularly riot cops) or sometimes the fire department or military special forces, but some are revolutionaries, armed activists, or members of neighborhood watches or citizen militias. Should they go rogue and their beliefs end up becoming toxic, however, Ideological Crusaders tend to turn into dreaded hatemongers or terrorists.
Special Operative (Inquisitor): The quintessential experts in making problems disappear, Special Operatives achieve (preferably) noble goals using subtle, unorthodox and sometimes questionable means, resolving delicate matters with cunning rather than the Ideological Crusader's brute force. Usually belonging to and trained in special tactics by some kind of organization, most serve(d) in intelligence agencies or commando units, but they may also be detectives in the police department, professional hitmen, or hacktivists and leakers and the like.
Humanitarian (Cleric): Devoted souls who follow a philosophy or faith they believe will help humanity, often trained in a variety of useful medical and mental techniques. Their skills may vary depending on the content of their particular belief system, with some potentially being quite sinister, but overall, Humanitarians are still primarily experts at keeping their team alive with first aid and supporting them in whichever way is necessary. Most have a background as healthcare personell such as doctors, surgeons, and nurses, but there's also plenty of social and charity workers and sometimes therapists to be found.
Additionally, a strong link exists between Humanitarians and religion. While ordinary ministers will rarely just go out to take on legally questionable jobs or vigilante work, some do protect their flock that way, and more still may be trying to save the souls of the underworld's denizens or view themselves as exorcists battling demonic forces. This goes twice so for the recruiters, envoys and missionaries of cults, of which there is an abundance in the underworld.
New Ager (Druid): Masters of the natural world. Using herbs and drugs, New Agers achieve a number of altered states of consciousness, enabling them to excel at various tasks with ease almost as if they could wholly transform themselves. When not doing this, they support their allies with wilderness knowledge, patch them up with "alternative" medicine, or command and train animals. Besides actual New Agers (who can come from any background), the class also frequently attracts environmentalists, naturalists, animal breeders, and natural scientists.
Influencer (Bard): Often glamorous individuals for whom doors swing wide open and ears perk up. Influencers are communications specialists, charmers, and frequently powerful orators and motivational speakers, who also know and dabble in a little bit of everything as a result of their colorful lives. In spite of the name, most members of this class are not youtubers, but rather celebrities of every kind, starlets and media personalities, entertainers and performers, life coaches, as well as journalists and reporters. While the class also contains plenty of artists (not just of the performing but also of the creative arts), their profession alone does not make them members, rather the ability to influence and powerfully motivate others is what counts (and a heaping of fame certainly doesn't hurt either!).
Middleman (Warlock/Witch): Middlemen are, for good and for ill, deeply connected and indebted to a powerful organization or individual, usually in an extremely unequal manner. This so-called sponsor they can call on for favors. Some examples of sponsors include organized crime, cults, megacorporations, or shady political lobbies. What the Middleman may achieve depends on the sponsor in question, but the support is always highly useful, from receiving access to exclusive venues to getting to borrow bleeding edge technology. In turn, however, the sponsor has their own expectations and demands and will sometimes come to collect their due. If the expectations are not fulfilled, support will be cut off, if not far worse.
Besides their main sponsor, Middlemen also collect lesser contacts and knowledge on how to play social institutions and conventions to their advantage. This, for instance, enables them to shield their allies from the law. They make excellent fixers for similar reasons. Anyone who enters a Faustian bargain may become a Middleman, but it is particularly common among entrepreneurs, lawyers, politicians, and similar power players. Membership in the sponsoring organization is not required, but still fairly common, especially as a delegate or representative of sorts.
Pundit (Wizard): Providers of expert knowledge. Ensure their allies always have all necessary information about their surroundings and can devise uniquely ingenious ad-hoc solutions to problems based on their chosen field of study, known theorems, and subjects they have recently looked into. Usually academics and other well-educated types, often with an actual university degree or even a professorship, but some private scholars or hyper-dedicated hobby nerds, too. Many are programmers or scientists (frequently pursuing one of the "big three" fields: biology, chemistry, or physics), researching, inventing, and using technology and other fruits of scientific labor, sometimes even creating things themselves when mechanical skill is not central (i.e. mixing chemicals). However, every field has its ways of dealing with problems, from highly communicative media studies to wealth-multiplying economics, and while scientists are often associated with gadgets, what a Pundit's ad-hoc solution looks like can really vary wildly.
Many interdisciplinary Pundits also exist, but in the first place, all Pundits have mastered research. Therefore, fields of study are more about with what approach and level of difficulty a goal can be accomplished, rather than what the Pundit can or can't do at all (unless it's of an "opposed" field, i.e. a field that fills with the Pundit with dread and horrid memories of their school days).
(NOTE: I've considered a pure Scientist class, but I liked the idea of university humanities professors regularly getting into shootouts too much.)
Technician (ArtificeAlchemist/Inventor): Technology specialists who excel at the hands-on operation, modification, and construction of various types of hardware, in contrast to the more theory-focused and software-based leanings of other classes like the Pundit or Savant (though a Technician can still absolutely learn how to program and hack). Technicians may come from the ranks of engineers graduated from their university with highest honors just as much as humble car mechanics, passionate amateur craftsmen, or even certain construction workers. Besides these, other popular specializations include electricians, driving fanatics, fighter or drone pilots, gunsmiths, saboteurs, and demolitions specialists.
(NOTE: This is essentially a fusion between craftsmen and pilots/drivers. Doesn't necessarily make that much sense to lump them together, but it's really hard to find a role other than dedicated getaway driver to play for a standalone driver class and Shadowrun's Rigger archetype provided some inspiration and a connection point.)
Savant (Sorcerer): Counterparts to the Pundit with similar abilities. Savants appear to possess a natural affinity and passion for the things that fascinate them strong enough to put them on equal footing with academics who gained their skills by more traditional means.
(NOTE: The Savant stereotype doesn't align so well with Sorcerers making for good socialmancers, so maybe these should be INT instead of CHA casters?)
Miracle Worker (Favored Soul/Oracle): Counterparts to the Humanitarian with similar abilities. Zealots, self-proclaimed prophets, and sometimes cult leaders hoping to impress future followers, Miracle Workers make up for the Humanitarian's specialist training with sheer confidence in their own abilities, mystifying language, and oftentimes more than a little bit of madness.
Medicine Man (Spirit Shaman): Counterparts to the New Ager with similar abilities. Achieve their skills less through drugs and herbs and more by "letting the spirits guide them", which is to say, through a combination of religious practices, empathic emotional connections with their environment and unconscious imitation of others, as well as sometimes through culturally inherited or acquired knowledge. May actually have an indigeneous background, or just wish they did.
Adventurer (Swashbuckler): Even in this day and age, there are occasionally people whose life story reads like something straight out of a movie script. Skillful generalists with a lot of panache. For some reason, this class tends to attract archaeologists the most.
Investigator (Investigator): Whether as private eyes, police detectives, or sometimes scientific researchers, investigators do exactly what their name says, getting results with their ability to draw the right conclusions and pursue leads.
TEAM ROLES
A well-balanced team archetypically consists of at least one Muscle, Breacher, Medic, and Egghead.
Muscle / Combat Specialist: Keeps the team safe from danger and if necessary draws it towards themselves. Suitable for: Militants, Thrashers, Blackbelts, Ideological Crusaders, Outlanders, sometimes Technicians or Adventurers.
Breacher / Security Specialist: Bypasses security and gets the team in and out where they're not supposed to be, whether by social infiltration or an old-fashioned break-in. Suitable for: Jailbirds, Special Operatives, Influencers, sometimes Blackbelts, Outlanders, Investigators, or Adventurers.
Medic / Support Specialist: Helps everyone stay alive and keeps them at their best. Suitable for: Humanitarians, Miracle Workers, New Agers, Medicine Men, sometimes Outlanders or Ideological Crusaders.
Egghead / Knowledge Specialist: Solves more intellectual challenges and helps out in numerous ways, often roped into tech/science support even if it's not their specialization. Suitable for: Pundits, Savants, Technicians, sometimes Influencers, Middlemen, or Investigators.
Nerd/Hacker / Tech Specialist: Optional, for when not covered by the Breacher and the Egghead is severely allergic to the natural sciences. Deals with tech. Suitable for: Pundits, Savants, Technicians, sometimes Jailbirds or Special Operatives.
Face / Social Specialist: Optional, for when the Breacher isn't a social butterfly. Represents and oftentimes leads the team and does the talking where required. Suitable for: Influencers, Middlemen, Ideological Crusaders, sometimes Adventurers.
Manager (Earner, Mom, Greaser) / Resource & Public Relations Specialist: Optional, depending on overall team composition and Fixer. May also be split into the three separate roles of Earner, Mom, and Greaser. Earner and Mom are two sides of the same coin, the former managing the team's side-hustles and extra sources of income, as well as purchasing equipment, while the latter takes care of supply and gear maintenance and also of all matters related to hideouts and the team's general needs. The Greaser is the team's networking specialist and often also their lawyer, greasing the right palms and ensuring law enforcement and other factions turn a blind eye to the team's activities. Suitable for: Middlemen are practically born for this, but Jailbirds, Influencers, Technicians, Pundits, and Savants also do well at various aspects of the role.
Eyes & Ears / Research Specialist: Optional, for when it's not the Breacher's (or sometimes the Egghead's) thing. The Eyes & Ears continually gathers intel and gossip and keeps the team abreast of recent events, potential dangers, and new opportunities. Suitable for: Investigators, Jailbirds, Special Operatives, Influencers, sometimes Middlemen.
Wheelman / Driving Specialist: Optional, for when nobody else is a particularly good driver. Primarily the designated and getaway driver, may also take care of and perhaps upgrade the team vehicle. Suitable for: Technicians, Jailbirds, Special Operatives, Ideological Crusaders, Adventurers, sometimes Outlanders.
Deadeye / Sniping Specialist: Optional, for when the Muscle is a Blackbelt, Thrasher, or otherwise close-combat preferring fighter. Does ranged combat, that's it. Suitable for: Outlanders, Militants, Jailbirds, Special Operatives, sometimes Technicians.
Treehugger / Wilderness Specialist: Optional, for when the group heads into the great outdoors for a prolonged period of time. Helps them not die there. Suitable for: Outlanders, New Agers, Medicine Men.
Fixer: Provides the team with jobs from interested parties and may also double as the Manager. Could be a designated part of the team or a freelancer. Suitable for: Any class, but Middlemen are the most common.

2024.05.09 14:57 CountAsgar I brainstormed a silly little idea for modern-day magicless D&D/PF classes.

2024.05.07 22:10 Maleficent-Round-617 Appearance anxiety
I have extreme appearance anxiety since past few years. I was not much worried about my facial structure or the proportion of the body features but since I have suffered bullying and relationship trauma, I have developed this anxiety. Now due to my appearance anxiety, I developed social anxiety. It still hurts me thinking about the time I was humiliated, insulted for looking small or young for my age. I had skinny fat with a pot belly . I am still skinny fat but now that I have started exercising, I have developed better muscle tone, but it will not suffice. I have to keep working for
it. Now, I will explain how this appearance anxiety has made me more static or metathesiophobic:
- If I have to go to shopping alone, My anxiety is still okay. It's just that if anybody insults me for anything, none of my friends or anybody who is coming with me would ever know. I can handle it well alone. I have to check for things like my eyebrows shape, my facial expression so that I am not mistaken for being lost like a child, then my dress up game has to be mature enough to be taken a bit seriously like an adult. i have to take care of the tone so that I don't sound crass but since I got naturally anxious face, so I end up being mistaken for a teenager sometimes. So, yes how you keep your eyebrows determines so much about your looks and expression.
- If I go shopping with someone, half of my energy is consumed in internally competing with the person because whenever I have gone out with my friends and if the salesman has to explain anything, they have always paid attention to the other person. The reasons are them looking more mature than me. Now I have learnt to sometimes subtly ignore it and I try to make direct eye contact which pulls the attention towards me.
- For any small errands or random grocery pickup,it's so much anxiety about how i would look and what words they will use to call me . If somebody calls me Ma'am, I feel relief that I have played it well at that time. If somebody calls me Lady, sweetie or any other condescending tone, then it's a big turn off.
- If I go out with my family, they have the habit of infantilizing me, which makes the other people around us look like I am a teenager.
- A lot of anxiety around plumber, electrician, ac service providers, carpenter, delivery executive ,maid ,watchman, salesman if they come at my home for some work because I am constantly looking out for the connotation that they would use to refer to me. I get highly anxious and I quickly make sure to look presentable, have a composure and make direct eye contact and also break into smile if needed to release the tension.
- I am gradually learning to not show any facial expression or reaction when somebody makes jokes on my appearence, I try to subtly pass it and not react which diverts the attention to other topic thereafter.
The reason I want to explain all of the detailing of the anxiety is because I look younger than my age and get called out a lot of times. I had fear of growing up during my college days and would still prefer to wear really weird teenager dress because again dressing up like an adult meant change and my system would resist it so much. I really have some cringe moments where I baby talked with one of my friend, behaved like a child with some friends, wore teenage clothes, throwed tantrums and all of this because I was trying very badly to fend off the pain known as "change". Thousand situations have occured which could have pushed me to change my personality for better but I kept pushing them away because of being metathesiophobic. We are scared of change because it felt like pain to us and it was unbearable at times. I don't know about others but in my case one of the reason to look and appear still teenagy could be because I refuse to grow up and embrace changes . I see all of my peers around me very comfortably take up small changes as an adults where I still wanted to wear teenage clothes and also behave like one .

2024.05.05 22:29 genZcommentary I watched NATLA before watching the cartoon and now I'm watching the cartoon. Here are my thoughts on Book 2 Episodes 9-11
Hello everyone. Iām back with more Avatar. Sorry, youāve had to wait so long for this one.
Before we go further, I need to say something. What youāre reading right now is actually my second attempt at writing this commentary. The first time I started writing it, I became quite angry when they revealed Iroh was alive. And no, I was not angry because my theory was wrong. If Iād never thought Iroh would die at all, I would still be upset at Bitter Work because of what happened in the last episode. I decided to stop watching, partly because I was angry at the show, partly because I didnāt want my emotions to ruin my viewing. When I came back to finish the commentary, I decided to delete what I wrote and start over. Iām no stranger to ranting, but on this one I just donāt want to share those feelings. I know most of you probably wonāt relate anyway.
All Iāll say is this: I donāt like cheap emotional manipulation. When you give me the most amazing and devastating emotional moments of the show only to turn it into a āhaha, gotcha!ā in the very next episode, it doesnāt feel good. It doesnāt feel earned. It feels cheap. It feels like a waste of a powerful scene. And itās retroactively made what was probably my favorite episode into a pointless one. After how strong the writing has been for Book 2 so far, I really expected more from the writers. Thatās all Iām gonna say about the subject, and Iām not interested in discussing it further.
So Iām going to start Bitter Work over and try to be impartial as I watch it. I have not watched Episodes 10 or 11 as of writing this.
Episode 9- Bitter Work
- Even the title of the episode implies certain things, doesnāt it?
I assume the word āSifuā means āteacherā based on context.
- Yeah, a flashback to Iroh playing with his son was on the verge of making me cry for about five seconds when I first watched this. I guess it is still sad.
Admittedly I didnāt really pay attention to the āZuko makes terrible teaā gag the first time. It does have all the makings of a good humorous moment. I think I was too busy thinking about how Zukoās refusal to not accept Kataraās help to heal Iroh turned out not to have consequences after all. Lucky him.
And, āSheās crazy and needs to go downā is about where I stopped watching, so from here on itās all new to me. Irohās going to resume training Zuko.
- I do like the juxtaposition of Kataraās and Tophās teaching styles. Airbending and waterbending are already pretty similar when you think about it. Even firebending focuses a lot on breath control and manipulating a flowing element. Earthbending isnāt really like any of them. Since Aang learned airbending first, it might be even harder for him than if heād started with water or fire, because Toph says earthbending needs a strong stance and airbending seems to need the exact opposite.
You know, making a suit of armor out of rock is probably one of the better earthbending moves Iāve seen. Donāt know why she left herself an eye hole though.
Donāt know how one jumps out of tree so hard they bury themselves in the earth lol
- Itās interesting to hear a little about the techniques behind lightning bending. But if it requires peace of mind to do, then thereās no way Zukoās going to be able to do it.
Heh, Irohās āOh yeah, good point!ā reminded me strongly of NATLA Irohās market scene in Episode 2. Donāt misunderstand me guys, Iām glad I get more scenes with Iroh. Iām mad about weak writing, not him still being around.
It is really cool to watch Iroh bend lightning. I wonder how he and Azula would fare in a one-on-one fight? I imagine theyāre evenly matched, but we donāt see Iroh do much fighting.
Zukoās struggling with learning new bending, Aangās struggling with learning new bending. Symmetry!
- Yeah, some people donāt respond well to a military drill-sergeant style of training. Iām sure the self-doubt Aang has over his disastrous firebending training isnāt helping either. Characters have pointed out in both NATLA and ATLA that his fighting style is very flighty, itās all dodging and avoiding, which is counter-intuitive to earthbending. Naturally heād rather avoid the boulder than face it, but if he canāt face a boulder then how is he going to face Azula and Ozai?
Lol things do have a way of blowing up in Zukoās face, donāt they? His lightning training, his plans, his ship, his fatherās fiery fistsā¦
Iroh talks like a therapist, man. Recently Iāve been learning about how anger is a secondary emotion, caused by something else. Zukoās anger comes from his shame. On top of that, Iroh explains how harmful pride is, and how it only feeds his shame. Likeā¦ Iroh missed his calling as the Fire Nationās first therapist lol
- I wonder if Sokkaās going to honor his promise to give up meat because heās clearly not going to die here (beloved main characters dying? Inconceivable!). Itād be interesting to see Aang and Sokka be vegetarian buddies while Katara and Toph still kill and eat things lol
Katara is so wise when sheās not making fun of blind people for not being able to see. She can even help Aang figure out earthbending! NATLA Katara did create a new waterbending move by studying earthbenders, so maybe Katara just has extra insight into other bending schools in general.
- And Iroh learned his super-secret-special technique by studying waterbenders! He and Katara are just on their own level.
Iroh just got done explaining to Zuko how airbenders detach themselves from worldly concerns and Tophās out here forcing Aang to care about worldly concerns lol
- Iām fine if Sokka wants to give up meat but he better not give up sarcasm.
āWell, I wouldnāt want you to feel uncomfortable.ā says Sokka, whoās been stuck in a crack all day lmao Also, itās curious to me that Aang says everyone expects him to get earthbending right away, when I havenāt seen anyone express that at all. I think that crippling self-doubt is rearing its ugly head again and holding him back. Whereās Kyoshi? Sheāll give him the pep talk he needs.
Sabertooth moose lion, huh? Just let Appa deal with it, like he does with every other large animal they encounter on this show lol
- So cool to see Zuko and Iroh practicing waterbending technique. Crazy how Iroh talks about not letting electricity pass through your heart when using your body as a conductor. Can you imagine how convenient it would be if electricians and firefighters could keep electricity out of certain organs whenever they get shocked?
I donāt know why heās acting so surprised that Zuko wants him to shoot lightning at him so he can practice his redirection technique. Likeā¦ where else would this training be going? Lol Also, Zuko riding off declaring heāll find his own lightning has got to be in his top five angsty moments.
- Okay, I see whatās happening here. Aangās using his airbending against the moose lion but in the style of an earthbender, and thatāll make it easier for him to bend earth later.
It is very interesting to me that Aang had to embrace his worldly concerns, namely his attachments to Sokka and his antique staff, in order to earthbend. I wonder if all avatars have to compromise like that? Like, maybe part of being the avatar is giving up certain parts of your culture in order to protect or serve all other cultures as well.
Okay, I take it back. Zuko screaming āstrike me!ā at a thunderstorm while crying in the rain on top of a mountain is the most angsty thing heās ever done.
Okay, wellā¦ I guess that was a pretty good episode. Obviously, I had some difficulty appreciating it at first but if it didnāt open on the biggest narrative cop-out Iāve ever seen, Iād probably have considered it a great episode from the start.
Also, it took me an hour and a half to write the commentary for just this episode. How? How is that possible? I swear I used to be faster than this.
Episode 10- The Library
- Hey! Iām just now realizing who these people in the opening are! Okay, so I mostly skip the intro because of how limited my time is to do these commentaries but I felt like watching it again andā¦ thatās Pakku! And Azula! And I donāt know who the earth and air benders are lol But thatās awesome! They were showing us important characters from the beginning! Soā¦ if Pakku is arguably the best waterbender alive, does that mean that Azula is the best firebender alive? Maybe not āaliveā because Iām pretty sure whoever that airbender is is dead.
I continue to love how Momoās first reaction to seeing any animal of similar or smaller size is to immediately try to kill it.
Why is Sokka only just now considering that they need more intelligence on the Fire Nation? Is it because Aang is so close to completing his training?
- I mean, itās quite impressive that even that much ice managed to survive in a desert for a hundred years. And those drinks in ice bowls actually seem pretty tantalizing! Katara could have done a lot worse for a vacation.
Hold upā¦ this world has universities? This world has anthropologists? Hell yeah! Maybe somebody can get to work on inventing the field of psychology to deal with everyoneās 100-year trauma.
HEY! This anthropologist just said this library heās looking for was built by āthe great knowledge spirit Wan-Chi Tongā! Is that the owl? He and Koh were tied for coolest-looking spirit in NATLA! Iād almost written him off as a character only in NATLA! Are we going to see him this episode? Of course the Spirit of Knowledge would have a library lol
(Also is it really necessary to have so many close-ups of Tophās feet? There are perverts watching this show, you know)
lol I thought the same thing as Sokka at first when the professor mentioned the foxy assistants.
- Sandbenders? Earthbending is really versatile! Coal, crystal, sandā¦ but for some reason not metal, even though metal literally forms in the earth, unlike certain other things they can bend lol
lmao āThatās what itāll sound like when one of you spots it.ā I love that this show is so willing to embrace blind jokes. They know how to cater to their blind viewers.
- So Toph doesnāt just use earthbending to sense vibrations and movement through the ground. She can use it to see things like the interior of buildings. So itās like echolocation but through the ground. That would kind of explain how badgermoles are able to sense peopleās emotions in NATLA.
Oh, poor Toph. Born too early for audiobooks.
Wow, I love the design on the library walls. And I see owl carvings!
There he is! My boy! The Spirit of Knowledge! āYou should leave the way you came, unless you want to become a stuffed head of anthropology.ā I love him so much! Interesting, he didnāt have a name in NATLA. He was just āthe Spirit of Knowledgeā. But here heās Wan-Chi Tong.
Zhao! This is where Zhao learned about the Ocean and Moon Spirits! Okay, thatās actually more satsifying than how he learned it in NATLA. So Iāll give ATLA the point here.
- Yeahā¦ I donāt trust Sokka here. Which is weird, cuz normally I would trust him with my life, but he was so bent on gathering intelligence on the Fire Nation earlier.
Itās so cool that they have to offer knowledge to the Knowledge Spirit! I love this whole little arc! āI suppose that counts.ā lol I love how sardonic he is.
Damn it, Sokka.
- Damn it, Sokka!
How did the Fire Nation manage to burn part of the library? I get the feeling Wan-Chi Tong isnāt the kind of spirit you want to piss off.
Planetariums are so cool!
So firebenders lose their bending during a solar eclipse? I mean, an eclipse is so brief you canāt launch a whole battle with that knowledge but it sure would be a great time for to fight Ozai and/or Azula. And as soon as I press play, Sokkaās already planning to invade the Fire Nation lol dude, an eclipse lasts what? 15 minutes? And hour? They might do some damage but theyāre not going to take the entire nation in less than a day. And even if they do, the eclipse is going to end and then theyāre surrounded in enemy territory by pissed off firebenders.
- You know what? Iām on Wan-Chi Tongās side here. They promised not to abuse his knowledge and then immediately broke that promise. Aang is supposed to be the bridge between the spirit world and human world, but he just broke his word to a spirit, and Iām sure thatās not good for his role as avatar. Not to mention, the last human to abuse his library used the knowledge to kill a spirit!
Okay, heās scary when mad. I do like that the spirits all have alternate forms that they use to attack with. ...kind of makes me wonder what Kohās alternate scary form is.
Wow! Toph is single-handedly holding that entire library up.
And even after everything, Sokka is STILL hellbent on getting information he can use to exploit. Iām disappointed in him.
- Do the sandbenders want to eat Appa? Everywhere he goes weird benders are trying to eat him. Oh shit, they actually caught him. Toph canāt help because she needs to hold up the library!
Uhā¦ I think that professor is going to get his wish to spend an eternity there. Unless Wan-Chi Tong decides to eat him.
Donāt worry, Aang. Appa will be fine. The plot armor is strong in this show.
Episode 11- The Desert
- Picking right up where we left off! Letās go save Appa!
Okay, Aangās going through some irrational feelings right now! Hah, I know just you feel, little buddy.
- Oh hey, Zuko and Iroh. I didnāt even notice they werenāt in the last episode. That was a fun little fight sequence.
Them drinking Kataraās bending water is hilarious. Even more hilarious is that they donāt even drink from the skin, she just floats it directly into their mouths lol
I know this is a cartoon, but hereās a real world wilderness survival tip for you: donāt drink from a cactus. Itās not safe! And if you happen to be lost in the desert like them and you drink water from a cactus, youāll most likely vomit and defecate yourself to death.
āSokka wait, you shouldnāt be eating strange plants!ā Apparently the show knows this too!
Lmao itās definitely having an effect on Sokka and Momo. Apparently this cactus is in the same family as peyote. Iāve always wanted to try peyote, by the way. I love magic mushrooms and I imagine peyote has a similar effect lol
- How far could the sandbenders have gotten that Aang canāt spot them from the air?
Oh hey, itās those guys. I forgot about them lol
Poor Katara. Everythingās falling apart, isnāt it?
- You know, I get why Aang got mad at Toph, even if this situation isnāt her fault. But why doesnāt he get mad at Sokka? You know, since this situation really is his fault! And he hasnāt even apologized or anything.
Uhā¦ when did those guys decide to catch Zuko and Iroh for a bounty instead of hunting down Toph, like they were hired to do? Lol
āThe White Lotus opens wide to those who know her secrets.ā My girlfriend does something similar, only Iām the one who knows her secrets (lol she is gonna kill me when she reads this).
Whatās this white lotus thing about? A secret society?
- Aw, this is really starting to bum me out. Iām not used to seeing Aang so angry and aggressive. But lucky for them they found the one cloud in a desert! And now Aangās turned his anger towards Katara. But stillā¦ not a peep for Sokka.
Yep, secret society, of which Iroh is a high ranking member. Cool.
āA rock! Letās go!ā āMaybe we can find some water there!ā āMaybe we can find some sandbenders.ā Those sandbenders are going to have a real bad day when Aang catches up to them.
Did Toph just make a snow angel in solid rock? Lol I love that
- Sokka needs to stop putting things in his mouth. Also, that looks like honey, and there were giant bees circling them earlier. He said it tastes like rotting penguin meat. Is it meat honey? Iāve never had meat honey myself, but I know itās a real thing. Vulture bees make it out of rotting animal flesh. I think they live in South America or Africa.
Oh! Those are literal vulture bees lol
Woah, Aang just cut that bee-bird in half. He didnāt need to, he already had Momo back. And heās not even in the avatar state! Heās in full control of his actions! Killing for vengeance would probably be a big no-no with the monks, right?
- Oh hey, the sandbenders are there. Just as Aang is going through a homicidal phase lol
Irohās going back to Ba Sing Se! (Conveniently where Team Avatar is heading too) Iām excited to see what itās like. Heard a lot about it!
Oh boy. Iām both excited and slightly nervous to see this new side of Aang!
Well, that was both scary and sad.
So weāre not getting Appa back this episode.
Concluding thoughts: Okay, that was a pretty good trio of episodes. There was one glaring thing wrong with it, but weāre not gonna talk about that. Itās really cool to see a new side of Aang, particularly one thatās flawed and could be dangerous given that heās the avatar. Iām continuing to enjoy Tophās character. I also like that Sokka finally got to show more of his flaws too. Havenāt seen him do that for a while! Katara really demonstrated how important she is to the group as well.
Didnāt see Azula at all, but I guess thatās understandable given her big exit last time. Despite the fact that Iroh survived her attack, she still remains a scary and serious threat. Having them face her too much might diminish that, so Iām fine with her presence in the story being used sparingly.
Okay, thatās all for now. Iāll see you next time!

- Picking right up where we left off! Letās go save Appa!

2024.05.04 12:50 Normal-Street9658 Iām wondering if I have grounds to pursue a defamation case
I (27m) want to sue x(32m) for defamation
I will be as brief and as honest as I can collectively whilst summarizing this in point form as best as I can I will begin with my recent history . For 15 years I manifested moving to a different province within Canada. - just recently marks one year of me finally moving away as planned -I am a red seal electrician and got sponsored to move to my dream province to take on the role of a foreman for one of the biggest companies in said province. -I left everything behind to do so and moved alone with not a soul to connect with even mutually. - the toxicity of my home town plays a big part of my move. - since moving I have gained quite a considerable amount of recognition and credibility for my performance and work ethic within my industry -I am working towards opening my own company where I am currently situated. -throughout this year I have developed a strong political viewpoint to which I firmly stand upon. - I occasionally share entirely legal posts regarding these standpoints on my facebook. These posts are conservative and as expected wouldnāt sit well with someone of liberal views but none the less not racist or biased and completely legal and statistically backed up. -5 days ago I shared a post referring to the PM as a Tuscan raider dictator. - being a Star Wars nerd my reasons donāt correlate to the common connection of Tuscan raiders being referred to as āsand peopleā more so in a deeper lore related context to which I would compare them to a far left activist group similar to that of antifa. -X whom Iām building this case against was an old mutual friend of a large group of friends from the town I moved from. -x saw this post referring to my concern of an immigration problem and me saying that real Canadians are suffering -x proceeds to say āmy family imigrated from the UK am I a real Canadian?ā -me having the dark sense of humor that I have said āyeah, youāre whiteā - x then proceeds to send me paragraphs of words solely based on a liberal mindset to which I have no care to partake in. -i get frustrated with the constant buzzing of chat notifications and paragraphs longer than I have the time to read. -after many irrelevant words and me trying to avoid the situation I eventually say Iām done with this and block x - less than 2 minutes later x messages me on Facebook saying āI will post your racist BS all over and see how that goes. Youl get fired from your job like you have multiple times in the past (this is false, never been fired) due to your own dumb A** self. When you fall apart and lose your job this time remember itās your fault. No one elseās. A guy like you , inevitable you will F it up ā. -I replied āoh noooooā , āyouāre a joke dudeā - x proceeds to brag about all his accomplishments whilst slandering my name by accusing me of having a coke problem (to which I most certainly do not) and calling me all sorts of vulgar names. -I replied āsounds like you need a hug ā - x then continues to aggressively insult me and finalizes with making fun of me for getting assaulted in the past and drugged when out of town working for a company that resulted in me quitting due to the circumstances. -after all this I sent my first and only big response in which I called him a goof and crazy and mentioned that I have one less reeeeetarrrrrDDdd to deal with in my life. -I finalized this message with āthis is the last message you will receive from me ā and blocked him. After not having the ability to respond X then screenshots the original 2 things I mentioned and emailed my company labeling me as a racist without proper context and I now have to meet with HR and my reputation with the company has been impacted. -Iām far too valuable to be fired over this however the fact this took place makes me want to pursue legal action -Iāve worked my butt off for 11 years to get where I am and violence isnāt the answer. I want him to have to learn this lesson financially.
Any thoughts help. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
