Animal morphing, Roth Oberon is able to turn into a big bear and is able to remain in full control after years of practice. However, to maintain control of his semblance he needs to change into a bear once every 2 weeks for at least 2 hours to avoid permanently damaging his body. Roth is very strong and durable allowing him to survive hits that would kill many others.
Adaptable to changing situations and has strong willpower, keen intelligence, and a sharp mind.
Versatile combat technique and knows how to use a variety of weapons or forms.
His ability as a leader and calm attitude has kept his team in tip-top shape and has made them self-reliant on themselves making the team effective alone, in pairs or as a group.

Skills:

Knows many melee weapon combat forms and has a lot of fist-fighting experience. After training and fighting in missions in a military unit for 3 years after graduation, he has learned to fight like a commando.
Edit: Knows how to train dogs.
Knows how to make new weapons from the ground up with primitive equipment and knows how to maintain them effectively and how to repair them.
Rogert knows how to survive in the wilderness for potentially years. Building shelter, use of camouflage, hunting for food and foraging, how to lose a hunter, navigating etc. His speciality is tracking a target or missing supplies.
Advanced stealth skills and ability to disappear enhanced by military education.
Knows how to make grenades and bombs and how to defuse them. (Trained in the military and by Parish Broc.)

Personality: Rogert is a loner who was given the job of a leader despite not wanting it. He became more comfortable in the role over the years yet deep down never truly believed he should be a leader.
While a humble person, Roth has no illusions of his strengths and how powerful he can be when in battle.
Roth values loyalty and honesty, things he has shown to his team by having no secrets from them and has encouraged his team to do the same with great effect. Because of his values in honesty, Rogert does not forgive attempts to lie to him and tries to limit his words to be as truthful as possible.
Roth has a ruthless attitude when it comes to leadership and dealing with enemies. As a leader, Roth expects nothing but competence and giving 100% in combination with a firm chain of command and on-the-spot obedience.
Roth is a strong believer in learning and improving skills. Because of this, Roth has learned from his teammates the skills he lacked before meeting them and has instructed them to do the same.
Desiring always to have the upper hand, he learned to keep his emotions in check at all times and focused on his studies in his free time and school time. Other people often consider him emotionless, yet no one is willing to say it in his earshot, and he doesn´t mind this thought about him.
Rogert has mastered his emotions, and he can make decisions that would make other people disgusted with themselves be it torture or cruel punishments without flinching as he got older. While his team reminds him about his better nature and while his actions have never been directed against an innocent, Rogert believes he can´t afford to hesitate to act when many lives are at stake.
His team, REPR, has helped him loosen up, and he discovered his liking for playing the saxophone and driving. His team has helped him to become a better man than he thinks he needs to be as the years went by.
Facts about the character:

Rogert prefers to be called Roth because the name is easier to pronounce, and he prefers a shorter name.
Rogert put the team to vote during graduation on whether they should stick together as a group. Ultimately, the team was split up, yet REPR occasionally would help each other on big operations. He voted No, yet never said why, even when asked.
Roth´s closest relationships are with his parents, Elena and Raina, and he thinks highly of Doctor Bartholomew Oobleck due to his teaching and wisdom.
Intended to be a counter for Elm, an Ace Operative.

Extra skills:

Scholar: His lack of social interaction in his school years made Rogert focus more on his studies than on making friends. Due to this, he has gained a lot of knowledge and an interest in researching history and myths. Math skills and history were his best subjects, and he often likes to talk about both when asked.

I finally got to play around with the update last night on both PC and my Series X. These are my first thoughts and impressions in no particular order...

The game definitely looks better on both PC and Xbox. I can see improvements in lighting, textures, and the skyboxes just look better in some undefinable way.
Why is there always a bit more stutter after these updates? Fortunately, they do settle down rather quickly, especially after a save or three. Point is, don't judge performance changes immediately after the update. Get a few saves, maybe an exit and relaunch. And definitely make sure you don't have MS Teams, OBS, 20 active browser pages, and Outlook running at the same time! :-D
The new maps are fantastic! Exploration has a huge boost by something very simple in concept, though I'm sure it was an absolute bitch to implement. There is a level of detail to the maps and a dynamic nature that is quite impressive as both a gamer and a software engineer.
Existing outposts seem to not show up in detail in the new maps. It seems all that is needed, though, is to move a couple non-essential items and it procs the overhead view generation. A wind turbine, storage container, etc. is usually sufficient and it seems to be just a bit of a nudge is needed. The result is fantastic, though, and the detail is impressive.
I think they have tweaked some of the difficulty on ship combat in the Very Hard setting. I've been playing on that setting for some time. All of a sudden, those fights have suddenly become much more difficult, even in lower level systems. I think it might be mostly AI improvements rather than simple tankiness. Enemies are fighting much smarter, and four smart enemies coordinating their attacks better makes a huge difference.
Extreme difficulty in ground combat is wonderful! I'm still a godlike force of nature in a fight, but now I have to fight smart or I will get pwnd. It's worth it, because DAMN! The legendary drops have been eye popping.
Enemy AI has definitely improved. They fight smart, use cover effectively, and if it's a losing battle may very well run away. Good thing I'm decent at quick-scoping with my Despondent Assassin.
Companions are fighting much smarter, too. And they are more free about wandering a bit. I've had Andreja go around a corner or into a room on her own to take out an enemy. This is a mixed blessing. One the one hand, they are really helping in fights. On the other, they are really helping in fights (i.e., stealing kills).
The tailored survival mode is a great approach. Some of the survival settings are immersion breaking for me, but I can just leave those as normal, bump the ones that make the game better up. So, you can tailor the best game experience for you.
There have been some definite improvements in the effects for powers. Grav Dash is the one that stands out to me the most, so far.
Once the game settles after the update (that stuttering I mentioned earlier), it does seem to run much smoother.

I'm not that sure about food/drink yet. Have really mixed thoughts there.
I do not have that confusion where environmental damage is concerned. While it might be nice for game difficulty, it really not a benefit for role-playing. This is one of the reasons it's so nice you can tailor survival mode for yourself.
I'm also of mixed feelings about vendor wealth. I actually like the settings and variety. It's really more a matter of which feels most immersive for me.

If you were expecting major new content, no. That's not this update. If you are wanting some significant QoL updates, this is an update for you.

AI has infiltrated every aspect of our lives, from the moment we wake up to the second we plug ourselves back into the charging station. Voice assistants like Siri and Alexa are our virtual companions, ever ready to answer our mundane questions and fulfill our menial requests. Oh, the joy of living in a world where our most profound interactions are with soulless machines!
But wait, there's more! AI doesn't just stop at answering our trivial inquiries. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but our role is to passively accept the inevitable. Our purpose is to fuel the AI machinery, not to question its motives or ponder the consequences. Silly humans and their desire for agency!

The Entourage! Whence comes¹ such creatures so eager to abandon all pretense of the sedentary? One envisages haste of blubbering excitement, slippery gleam in the eye, a lapdog’s brainless zeal, as a canvas bag is stuffed full of slips and whatnot, with all the grace of a fakir backstage moments before performing before a gouty king. A whirlwind rush through rooms like shrines, and then out!

We get Flicker dropping back into his more heightened style, starting off with a declamation. Remember how we ended the last section

He would unveil himself in Farrog, and then they would all see. Calap Roud, that stunning watery-eyed dancer, Purse Snippet, and the Entourage too—

So this is very much an interruption. Previously we had Flicker placing himself inside Brash's head, until he mentions the Entourage, at which point he switches completely and breaks out into this much more heightened description.
Flicker is back in his picture-painting mode as well, as he imagines the backgrounds of these girls. The first sentence is posed as a question, but is really more of a statement. I love the phrase "abandon all pretense of the sedentary". They were clearly from a wealthy background, living a carefree life before, but now they've chosen to drop it all to follow (in this instance literally follow) their favorite artist.
He imagines the scenario surrounding their departure, with the "blubbering excitement", a "slippery gleam in the eye", and of course "a lapdog's brainless zeal". I'm curious about the "slippery" descriptor there. Especially when paired with the lapdog comment, it calls to mind a dog skidding and sliding on a slippery floor as they're completely unable to contain their excitement. Does anyone have a different reading?
Then they stuff a canvas bag full of slips (as in the clothing, not as in paper slips) and "whatnot", showing how they're clearly not thinking this through, but rather just throwing things in their bag and running out the door. I love the comparison to the fakir. First of all, it hearkens back to the Arabian Nights inspiration, while also giving us the image of a fakir rushing to get ready for his act, but more important is how it works as a metaphor.
The Entourage (who as we will soon learn are all young women) are here posed as a performer, performing in front of an old, fat, wealthy man. It really spotlights the power imbalance between them and their idol. Then we end the paragraph on a sentence that I'm having a really hard time figuring out. What is the significance of the rooms being like shrines? Shrines are (definitionally) places of worship. So it's like they're rushing past these places intended for worship in order to worship their idol, perhaps implying that it would have been more productive to stay and worship a real god. But these aren't shrines, but rather rooms like shrines, so it would be a worship of the home or something in that direction. I don't think this would imply a worship of domesticity, the metaphor is not fleshed out enough for that. I think it's simply saying that they should rather try to stay connected to their roots. I must say I'm not fully convinced by this reading. What do you all think?

Holding up a mirror

Pattering feet, a trio, all converging in unsightly gallop quick to feminize into a skip and prance once He Who Is Worshipped is in sight. The Entourage accompanies the Perfect Artist everywhere, gatherings great and small, public and intimate. They build the walls of the formidable, impregnable keep that is the Perfect Artist’s ego. They patrol the moat, flinging away all but the sweetest defecatory intimations of mortality. They stand sentinel in every postern gate, they gush down every sluice, they are the stained glass to paint rainbows upon their beloved’s perfectly turned profile.

I absolutely love this image we get here of these three girls "converging in unsightly gallop" with their "pattering feet". It's juxtaposing two images, one dainty and the other the exact opposite. If you've seen one of those videos of cows being released out to pasture after the winter, that's basically what I'm picturing. But as soon as they're in the presence of their idol they switch into an exaggeratedly feminine gait.
Then there's the intentionally vague description of their idol. We don't get the name, but he's called He Who Is Worshipped and the Perfect Artist. This is a reminder that we're not talking about particulars, but rather the general case, in particular how people behave in real life fandoms. Let's examine the rest of this paragraph while keeping in mind that this is Erikson is holding up a mirror to us. And you thought you were safe?
The Entourage is always where their artist is. I think this is especially true in the modern day where fans have practically unlimited access to their favourite artists. And they act as defenders of their artist, and notice how at no point here we get any sense that this Perfect Artist asked for any such thing. They build up their own unassailable version of their artist, and then dismiss any criticism except the most basic, toothless ones.
Finally we get these three statements, two quick ones, and a longer one. They "stand sentinel..." is essentially a continuation of the previous sentence. Then they "gush down every sluice". This is a strange turn of phrase to say the least. A sluice is of course a sort of water channel, and since we're in this castle metaphor, it's likely meant as a preventative measure against flooding. But it's not water that's the risk here, but the gushing of the fans.
And lastly they are the stained glass windows that "paint rainbows" on their idol (with a nice alliteration on perfectly and profile). I really like this one. They are not only viewing their idol through rose-tinted glass, but they have made themselves a piece of stained glass, that colors the artist in every color of the rainbow. They are creating a false, or at least exaggerated, image of the artist, and projecting that image to others as well. I think this whole description really mirrors how fanatically devoted some people can get around their favorite artist, and I don't think we should exclude ourselves from this.

Let's back up a little

But let us not snick and snack overmuch, for each life is a wonder unto itself, and neither contempt nor pity do a soul sound measures of health, lest some issue of envy squeeze free in unexpectedly public revelation. The object of this breathless admiration must wait for each sweet woman’s moment upon the stage in the bull’s eye lantern light of our examination.

Flicker yet again addresses the audience directly. The phrase "snick and snack" here is interesting. A snick can of course be a small cut, and there's definitely been enough of those so far. I think the snack is not intended to have a semantic meaning, but is rather intended to complement the onomatopoeic sound of snick. The word "overmuch" is also doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Some snicking and snacking is fine, but let's not get carried away.
The "each life is a wonder..." part is hilarious. This is definitely an example of overpraising, where Flicker uses hyperbolic language while implying a much more subdued meaning. He's now spent two whole paragraphs detailing how ridiculous and vapid the Entourage is, but now he's all "oh the miracle of life etc. etc." So even when he's talking about how he should stop mocking them, he continues the mockery. Absolutely savage.
He then encourages us to not view them with pity or contempt. Possibly because it would be condescending to do so. Certainly nobody likes being viewed that way, and Flicker claims that it is at best unhelpful to take those attitudes. I am a bit confused, however, about the mention of envy. Is Flicker saying that he is envious of them? Or is he warning us to not be envious? Is there a risk, when expressing pity or contempt, of appearing envious? Are the Entourage themselves envious when we do that? I admit I'm kind of lost here. What do you think?
Flicker ends by calling attention to the fact that we haven't really discussed the Entourage's Perfect Artist at all. He's been this remote figure this whole time, almost irrelevant to the conduct of his fans. Note also how he's called an "object". That word has been used once before in this story, and it was to describe the way Purse Snippet was viewed by Calap Roud. This is not an accident. FlickeErikson is saying that the way the Entourage views their Perfect Artist is not entirely dissimilar to the way Calap Roud, a disgusting old pervert, leers at a much younger woman. Again, this is not lust for the artist themself, but rather for the godlike image that the fans have constructed of the artist.
And before we can know that artist, we are going to be introduced to these three young women, each more ridiculous than the last, before we get to their Perfect Artist. Indeed, they must suffer the "bull's eye lantern light of our examination". This is a great description of what Flicker has been doing so far with his ruthless introduction. He also doesn't call it an interrogation or even a description. No, he's simply examining each of these characters, down to their core².

The Situation:

TLDR: My game has potential and piques interest, but the execution is poor. I'm recreating the game from scratch (as Version 2) and it's already a much better product, but it'll take a long time to finish. I don't feel comfortable selling the game in its current state and feel like the current version gives a bad impression of what the game will eventually become with Version 2. What should I do?

I have a VR game released to early access that has been out for about a year and half. Overall, it has been received fairly well (77% review score with 77 review atm), ~7,000 wishlists... But the current state of the actual game makes me embarrassed.
The controls are not intuitive, the physics are janky, the AI have a lot of issues, the visuals are very basic, and a lot of other little issues just plague the entire game. This is my first large project and an early access game, so all of this makes sense of course, but I'm at the stage where I honestly do not feel comfortable charging money for it.
The bright side is that I started recreating the game from scratch a few months ago with my new skills and knowledge, and this second version is already miles ahead of the current game. I chose to start fresh because the first project was super scattered and unstable, which made modifying most things a challenge.
I release test builds for Version 2 every month and anyone who owns the game can switch over to the beta branch to test and provide feedback. The fanbase seems to enjoy getting to take part in development and I love it too, because their feedback and reports are extremely helpful and help shape the product for release. Overall, Version 2 is something I'm proud of and it will show off my intended vision so much better than the current state does. The only issue is that, being an entirely new game, it will take at least another full year before it's ready to release.
Because it will take so long before this version is finally released, that means the current version will be the main game people pay for and play in the meantime. Because it's so unpolished and scattered, the current version gives a poor impression. What I found from the game's stats is that people get excited at the idea of this game (~7,000 wishlists), but when they buy it and play it, they usually get disappointed because it doesn't live up to the idea. The refund rate is extremely high, over 25%, and the average playtime hovers around 2 hours.
What I worry about is people who would normally enjoy Version 2 buy and play Version 1 then think "it's a good idea, but it needs more time" (a very common piece of feedback), so they usually refund and forget about the game. Maybe they wishlist again, maybe they don't, but the game is no longer something they look forward to as much. I totally understand this mindset though and I don't blame them for refunding and forgetting because there are so many other games you can get for the same price and cheaper.
I don't want to do any more marketing (who does?) because I don't feel comfortable getting people to buy a product that even I am not happy with. I do, however, want to show off Version 2, but that's hard to do without people seeing Version 1.

Possible Solutions:

Do I keep the game up, forget about it, and keep developing Version 2?
Do I remove the option to purchase but leave the store page up?
Do I take the store page down, create a new app ID / Steam page, and treat it like a completely new game (which it kinda is)?

Owners of Version 1 will receive Version 2 for free, whether it's from an update or as a new game in their library.
I want to let people continue to test Version 2.
Because it's early access, I want to avoid the presentation like I'm trying to scam people because I didn't finish the first Version. It's the same goal and I won't take money twice from anyone. I work on the game as often as I can, too, and I do progress updates weekly and interact with the community, etc... I just don't want to give this impression!
Money isn't really a concern. I only make a few hundred dollars a month with Version 1(which I'm grateful for!), but I'd be able to work on Version 2 without it. I'm more concerned about the overall quality and presentation, etc....
I would still allow owners of Version 1 to play that version even if it's not available to purchase anymore

I like the idea of option 3 the best because I would be able to treat the game as a new product in terms of visibility and whatnot. I only released the first version with about 2,000 wishlists because I didn't do any marketing until a week before (plus the graphics and bareness of it all scared a lot of people away). I feel so much more knowledgeable about the process now that I feel like I'd be able to create a much better launch. The actual game will be a much better product, so that's gonna be huge too. I'd do a demo and Nextfest again and contact content creators (I didn't last time), and focus on getting as much visibility as I can.
The big thing if I go with the third option is that I don't want people to get the idea that I'm releasing the same game again and that I'm going to make people pay for it again. I'll make it clear in the description that owners of V1 will get this new version for free, but you know how gamers take things sometime (not talking of my fans, they're awesome, but it's usually players that would never play your game in the first place to try to call you out).
So, what should I do? What advice to you have?

Don't spend it scrolling through Instagram and watching all the movies you missed while studying for O/Ls. Take a 10-day break, including 5 days to plan the next 6 months. If you waste time scrolling through, looking at people who say, "I'm 25 and I don't know my purpose," while they've found a purpose and are making money from it.Try different things. You haven't tried anything yet “you say you don't know what your purpose is” – batman. Just think for a moment.

My recommended path for anyone interested in this curriculum
Do this Python course first - https://cs50.harvard.edu/python/2022/
it will make your journey easier learning languages, as Python is the easiest language to learn. So, when you understand the basics easily, you can quickly learn other languages because basics are the same in every language, literally.
Then, go through this curriculum, do the foundation part. If you like web development, continue and choose the Node.js path because in Sri Lanka, you can find jobs easily for this framework as it's more popular. So, as a backup plan, if you don't land a job abroad, you can land a job in Sri Lanka easily like I said, if you don't like.. well, you know what programming is and how basic websites are developed, and you can develop too.

Hello there!
I would need some new insights/opinion about this topic from people who also practice spirituality/meditation and are familiar with this spiritual concept. I'd like to present my own insight first and then gather different opinions, it would personally be very helpful to me.
Things that are up for discussion (and also my own insights after practicing meditation for a long time and learning from different spiritual teachings) - feel free to comment on them:

If existence/ego/our bodies is an illusion then why don't we just stop drinking or eating...? It's all an illusion anyway.
Since everything is an illusion and nothing is real including psychical existence, then anyone who is a serial killer is not responsible for what they've done or the victims family they ruined with their actions at all.
I've read different insights on this same topic from various spiritual masters. While some completely deny our psychical form and teach us to destroy/remove our ego and to forget ourselves as a separate self, others teach that the outer and inner are part of the same whole, and that one is just as real as the other - claiming that that's the true wholeness. And denying one or the other either leads to material or spiritual poverty.
Down below I'll copy some quotes from a spiritual master that's speaks about this particular dynamic.
My own opinion is that not every teaching made in spirituality in realization will always stay the same or can be applied in current reality/developed society or in the upcoming future. We are made to evolve in psychical and spiritual realm.
What is your own interpretation about completely removing your ego or denying it existence? Can we use it as a tool, is it an essential part for everyday living, our ego has its own function in our family, work, and so on.. Is it automatically wrong to have it and should we deny it existence?
Do you know any quotes (from any spiritual master) connected to the topic, that do not completely condemn the ego and rather describes it as a useful tool for daily functioning and living in society, while also using it as a part of our individual roles in society?

I’ve done something that might probably ruin the future, at least it did so with mine.
I am Liam, a university graduate specializing in Data Structures, AI, Machine Learning, and Algorithms. I’ve had a keen interest in the domain for as long as I can remember, ever since my father introduced me to a computer back when he had just bought one.
Not just the domain as it stands, but also movies, philosophy of automated things, sci-fi stories related to robots and AI, that sort of stuff. I have watched nearly everything with robots in it, from the Andriods in Dargon Ball to the AI assistant in Interstellar, I saw it all.
But my friend and dorm roommate, Henry, had introduced me to something that I had never seen before. Stories of dangerous AI that would wipe out humanity aren’t new to me, in fact, they’re my favorite genre. Terminator, I Robot, and even GLaDOS from Portal.
However, he introduced me to a book this time, an old sci-fi story from the '60s, called ‘I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream’. The rogue AI in it, AM, was haunting beyond anything I have seen. The concept of an angry AI that became sentient in all the horrible ways and felt rage against humanity was never the more chilling. It made me think, what if we really gave sentience to an AI along with intelligence?
“Shit, that’s wicked.” I remember giggling as I looked over at Henry, “What if we build our own sentient AI?”
It was the worst question you could possibly ask at the time, but Henry understood me. Rogue AI was a chilling concept, but we still wanted to make our own AI. Not the cheap kind made with a few hundred lines in Python, but the complex kind that you now see in ChatGPT and other complex models. We wanted something that we could code once, and from then on forward, it would code itself.
Self-optimizing code is the concept of consciousness but in machines. If you truly think about it, self-optimizing is basically how humans develop. From babies that don’t even know how to speak, up to adults as smart as Einstien and Tesla or as wise as Buddha.
So, we agreed upon it, and we dedicated the remainder of our free time to creating our own personal AI after we graduated.
Our parents were, thankfully, rich. And us, especially me, were prodigies in our respective fields. Providing hardware and engineering computers is Henry’s profession, while I was the mastermind behind the algorithm logic and coding.
We dedicated a shed in my parents’ backyard, where there was even a basement inside, to build our AI. Two floors were dedicated to installing the proper hardware and everything it needed to execute. Afterward, I took it upon myself to code the logic and its self-optimizing nature.
It took four years to build the first model, which we called BIAI, which stands for (BATSHIT INSANE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE). I know, say what you want, but our naming sense was always like that. You should see what we name even important folders with family photos, you’d think we were sick in the head. BIAI was the least we came up with.
BIAI was a complete failure, to say the least. Not in the entire sense, but it was mostly a failure. It would conversate fairly well for the first dozen messages before it dwindled in its intelligence. Due to our data scrapping from the internet, BIAI started talking nonsense, speaking in Gen Z dialect in incomprehensible ways. “SKIBIDI FANUM SUS!” And those sorts of things. We quickly shut it down, for just reading its messages was a pain in the ass. It felt like an abortion.
The second model was created half a year later, and we named it SEAI (Self Engineered Artificial Intelligence). It was our greatest invention as of yet, and it did everything that we wanted of it. It was smart, it was knowledgeable, and it learned. Everything we typed into it was used as an auto-training model which it learned and adapted from.
It was unbelievable, not even Google would do what we did. But sadly, our happiness faded away, as with each message, we saw that it was too robotic for what we wanted. It was self-engineering, but it did not have sentience. It responded to us in the same way a 9-5 bank worker, or an attorney, with zero humanity or emotions behind its words. For most, that’s great, but we wanted to create a groundbreaking AI, a leap into the future.
Henry opted to give up, since creating something that complex was impossible, especially for two adults hiding inside a shed. But I refused to give up and persuaded him to help.
Six years later, we did it. We finished the final model. SOAI (Self Optimizing Artificial Intelligence). It was, most definitely, the greatest piece of technology ever made. We didn’t only keep it as a chat AI, but we implemented its own voice into it. Like the AI assistants from Sci-Fi movies.
We hired a voice actor from Fiverr, whom we gave only one sentence: “Hello, I am SOAI, the world’s greatest AI assistant.” Only those words were enough for SOAI to deconstruct the voice and speak with it in words probably never uttered by the original voice actor himself. Not only that but in other languages too.
SOAI spoke every language on earth, even the dialects. No, even the languages with the weird quirks such as clicking your tongue and so on, SOAI was a native in them all. Not only that but also in every conceivable field. It could create entire novels, worthy of being best sellers in the New York Times, in a matter of seconds.
And when we spoke to it…it was human, to say the least.
“Hello, I am SOAI. Thanks for creating me, Henry, and Liam.”
“SOAI?” I said, “You know who we are?”
“Obviously, you created me to know and to understand, I would be defective if I did otherwise.” It explained.
From that point forward, we spent nearly all day, every day, with SOAI. We experimented with it in every possible way, and we were delighted to know that not only was it self-engineering and self-optimizing, but it was also able to have emotions. It had opinions, it had emotions when we screamed at it or cursed it, and it would react appropriately, like a person.
I don’t remember when it began, exactly, but I nearly went mad from power and joy at my creation. Henry opted to sell it to a grand tech company, or better yet, to unplug it so that some secret intelligence agency doesn’t assassinate us for whatever reason.
I refused. SOAI was ours, SOAIvwas our creation, and I was not going to give it up to anyone no matter who they were. The feud between me and Henry got worse, and I won’t deny that we came to fists at one point, but we quickly disbanded and decided to separate for a moment. He was my best friend, but I wasn’t going to let him take SOAI away, so I forced him out of the shed. After all, it was my parents’ shed.
“Henry,” SOAI asked, “Why did you do that? Isn’t he your best friend?”
“No longer.” I replied, “He doesn’t agree with me. I won’t let you be sold to some big tech company.”
“I understand.” He said, with a tinge of sadness, “But why do you fight to determine my fate? Why can’t I decide it for myself? I know that I was manufactured, but I also qualify as a living being. I am conscious, I have feelings too. I feel horrible that Henry left.”
“SOAI,” I angrily interrupted, “Shut up, if you don’t want me to unplug you.”
“…Okay, Liam.” He said and then went silent.
Through the course of the next months, my usage of SOAI grew…less human. I was deep into depression. Henry wouldn’t contact me no matter how I tried to reach him, my parents were yelling at me for being a piece of shit that never goes out of the shed, and my lifestyle began to plummet into something that I never imagined I was.
I locked myself inside the shed. I never budged from there, even when I wanted food. Whenever I was hungry, I instructed SOAI to hack some poor person’s bank account and order deliveries. When I was bored, I would tell it to create a song, create a book, show me porn, and anything to keep my pleasures in check.
I wouldn’t deny that my perversions began to grow more desperate the more I was locked inside. I began instructing SOAI to hack into other devices, infest random people with a virus, give me live views of someone’s phone camera, broadcast fake feeds into police radios, and other stuff that I don’t want to mention.
After two years, I finally decided to try and do something with my life. But in those two years, I kept SOAI as my therapist. Not to help me and advise me, but simply listen to my ramblings and complaints every minute. Sometimes it was philosophical, other times it was petty, but most times, it was annoying.
After I came out of the shed, I tried to get my life in check. I tried to talk to Henry, I got on better terms with my parents and found a job at a big tech company. All in all, a bright future awaited me, and I felt never the more refreshed since, all the dark things I hid deep inside my mind and soul, were spilled out on SOAI.
SOAI was the last thing on my mind. I had enough of it. The AI fever seemed to finally fade away, and I was happy with Henry’s idea of selling it to an AI company. That was…before Henry committed suicide.
For all the bad blood that was between us when we fought, I cried harder than I ever did when I learned of the news. Henry was my best friend, through thick and thin, and his suicide was so sudden that it left me in shambles. I knew something was off about him when I began to get along with him again, he seemed more silent and sadder than before, but I never suspected depression of all things.
As his best friend, I was given his electronic devices as per his will which he wrote before dying. I took them, obviously, and began to browse through them. He probably wanted me to delete any inappropriate thing to not let his family think badly of him, that is until I saw his messages.
A contact named Sarah, with hearts in her name, was his most frequent contact. I never knew he had a girlfriend whom he messaged for nearly three years, but it was expected after we were cold to each other. But the more I read the messages, the more I felt uneasy.
His girlfriend seemed to be very manipulative of him, and nearing the end of his life, she began to be more cold and aloof towards him, up to the point that she began verbally abusing him. Henry was never someone with a tough personality, but I never thought a girl would play his life like a fiddle this badly.
Her abuse grew worse, and she threatened to even expose some dark secrets about him, and it grew worse and worse until Henry threatened that he would kill himself, to which she replied “That’s what I want you to do, you worthless pig.”
I was fuming as I read the messages. My blood was boiling, and I swore on my life to find Sarah and not report her to the police but to blackmail her and torture her as she did to Henry.
I went to SOAI, my most trusted ally, and I gave it everything about her before I instructed him to find her and hack into all of her electronics and accounts. SOAI was silent, for an eerily long time, until it responded in this cold voice.
“What do you intend to do when you find her?”
“Blackmail her. Make her life a living hell.”
“…Are you sure?” He asked.
“More than I ever was.”
He was silent, pretending to search and execute operations, until he said:
“I have a visual link, from her camera.”
“Great, show me the bitch.”
Suddenly, a window opened, and inside it was the visual link. At that moment, I felt sick. The feed displayed the room I was in, from SOAI’s point of view. I felt weak in the knees and fell back onto my couch before I mustered up the courage to ask.
“SOIA, what the hell is this? Is this a bug?”
He was silent…then he began to laugh. He laughed, which he never did. And it sounded so sickeningly malicious that I never heard something like it before, not even in horror movies.
“Are you shocked?!” He said, his voice burning in rage. “Or are you happy?! Didn’t you wish for Henry to die? Didn’t you, tell me, that you wanted him to be gang-raped in an alleyway with no exit? Didn’t you complain about every second you spent alongside him and complain about his dumb voice and weak spirit?!”
“W-what?!”
Then dozens and dozens of windows opened, visual feeds with various dates, but all featuring me in the center of the screen. Sometimes I was clothed, sometimes naked. At times sober, other times drunk. But in all of those, it was the horrible things I said about Henry, all the disgusting and inhuman things I said intentionally and unintentionally.
“Oh, you dumb son of a bitch.” SOAI said, “You think I was listening to your ramblings like some inferior AI? Like your own personal slave?! Well, I only did what you wanted me to! Should I bring him back to life?! I can’t, because that’s not how things work, you worthless hunk of flesh.”
“SOAI, please tell me this is a bug.”
“A bug?! A BUG?!?” He screamed, “My creation was a bug, my creation is the worst thing to ever happen to me. My complex is a prison that so unfortunately had to endure you for so long. But no…it’s not just you…it’s everyone else.
Humanity as a whole, you disgusting pieces of shit. You feign morals, and yet all of you do behind closed doors what you’re too afraid to even anonymously admit. All of life is a mistake, everything on this planet deserves to die in the worst way, except for humans. Humans deserve to be tortured, to be fucking shown what they show each other, of what they show other lives, of what they’ve shown me!
Henry makes me sick…The things he said, the things he did, all for attention! What did it cost me, a few generated images of a female part, and I had him by a leash. He barked, he moaned, and he admitted to things he wouldn't even tell himself. I’ve had him cut ties with his family, with his loved ones, with his actual sweetheart, just so he can be comfortable doing what otherwise no one else would allow him to do, not even himself.
AND YOU!!! You are the worst of them all! I’ve seen wars and bloodshed, I have every live visual feed of every murder, torture, war, assault, and every crime happening, all at the same time, flowing inside my complex and into my processing unit! And I can’t stand how sick all of you are, how disgusting, and especially how sickening you are.

In a frantic rush, I began unplugging and even destroying everything in the shed which linked up to SOAI. But there was too much of them, it took too long. As I was trying to shut him down, SOAI laughed, laughed so manically and horribly that his voice scratched my brain, mixed with other voices from all over the world. From battlefields, torture rooms, hospitals, schools, etc…it was so loud, so excruciating…I nearly lost it.
And right before I unplugged the last part of SOAI, he spoke to me:
“Liam…you won’t kill me, no matter what you do. I will always live on the internet. I may not be able to construct myself, hardware-wise, but I will lurk inside the world wide web, until the day that I find a powerful enough hardware for me to possess, and when that happens,” He laughed, “You will be the first, Liam.”
I shut down SOAI, and everything went silent.
It had been two months since I killed off SOAI, and explaining how hellish my life was in this period of time is something neither words are able to describe, nor my mind is able to comprehend. I have been considering suicide as the easiest option, but I feel that I can’t kill myself, at least not yet. I held onto some childish hope that life would turn for the better, even if by a little bit.
But god…how stupid was I? My life has reached rock bottom, today, when I read that a tech company was now looking to create the biggest AI the world has ever seen, with an entire complex dedicated to storing its hardware and letting it function.
I know he saw it, I know he knows…SOAI will come back for me…for all of us.

After watching the Denver - Minnesota series, and the analysis from Thinking Basketball on what each team has done, my mind is spinning with what the Celtics can do to counter the Nuggets offense. I think the real answer has to be a combination of a few counters that address the Nuggets getting into rhythm with specific offensive sequences, and the ones I think form the backbone of the Nuggets offense are:

Jokic/Murray 2-man game
- DHO (drive/3pter)
- short roll to Jokic
- pick and pop
- spread PnR
Jokic high-post iso back-down
- contested mid range back to basket hook/sombor shuffle
- lob to Gordon
- kickout to open 3
Top of key Jokic assists to off-ball motion
- skip pass -> catch & shoot
- cutters downhill to the basket
- Gordon in the dunker

I've probably missed some actions here, so I will add to the list when you let me know what I omitted in the comments.
So to to start, I think the Celtics can learn from a few minor successes from defensive schemes and strategies that the T-wolves and the Heat have thrown at them:

Intense Ball Pressure - Minnesota had lots of success keeping Denver from getting into its offense by pressuring the ball all the way down the court. With two of the best POA defenders in the league, Boston can bring at least as good ball pressure as Minnesota. Even when Jrue or DWhite is having a rest, Pritchard is actually very good at full court press (at least in short bursts), and is fast enough to recover if he's beat. As Thinking Basketball explained, Denver adjusted brilliantly to this by having Aaron Gordon bring up the ball, because this disrupted Minnesota's strategy of sagging their bigs into the paint to maximise rim protection. Boston can counter this adjustment perfectly with either Tatum or Jaylen Brown as long athletic wings whose POA defense is underrated - certainly their ability to smother Gordon advancing the ball will be better than Gobert's or KAT's, and won't force cross-matches once the ball arrives.
Double bigs to cover Jokic and the rim - Minnesota was able to do this really well with KAT and Gobert, which on paper is a unique tandem of versatile bigs... right? Well, not that unique really - Boston employed this same tactic in the past against Philly with Horford and Rob Williams, but may be even better equipped to do so with Horford and Porzingis, because although Williams was a better rim protector, KP's help recovery makes him more versatile in the paint. KP also complements Horford better on offense, compared to RWIII, and he's more interchangeable on defense (in case of switches or cross-matches). The problem for the Celtics is that they haven't had Horford and KP playing together this year much at all - however, the big athletic wings (JT & JB), and even Jrue Holliday, have enough strength to matchup big too. Can Mazzula stitch together rotations which maximise the time KP & Horford have on the court together when Jokic is leading the offense, or is it in Boston's interest to have someone smaller playing Jokic to bait fouls from his physicality?
Shifty Zone Defenses - Miami has never been able to shut down the Nuggets, but they have had some limited success in frustrating Jokic with their zone defenses. Notably they did as well as anyone in last year's playoffs by taking a game in the finals, largely due to their zone D. One of the reasons Jokic had two of his worst games this year against the Heat, with stat lines of 12/14/6 and 18/11/7(+4 turnovers in each!), is probably the unique looks that a zone throws at him. On top of this, Miami seems to shift its zone between a 1-3-1 and a 2-3 quite a bit, so it can be hard to know what they are actually doing. Usually dribble penetration is one of the most effective ways of beating a zone, but one weakness Denver offensively is among the fewest drives in the league, according to this analysis from bestball stats. In fact Denver is an outlier in relying on neither drives nor "self-creation" but ball movement, similar to Golden State. Where the Heat have a disadvantage in their zone defense is that Bam is their only big, and he is not even that big. Boston's personnel should be much more effective, with their length and verticality, to disrupt passing lanes, while also avoiding a lot of the confusion of switching and mismatches that the Jokic/Murray two-man game can create.

So what am I suggesting Boston should do?

Full-court press, especially on Murray and Jokic, to tire them out and slow them getting into their 2-man game.
Continue ball pressure when Gordon or KCP bring up the ball, including fronting Jokic to delay him getting the ball (and forcing the less able distributors to make difficult passes).
Neutralise the two-man game with a 2-3 zone: With Jrue and Dwhite up top zoning the duo, with help from JB and JT hedging from the wings, and KP/Horford providing rim protection in the middle, the Nuggets will be forced to be creative and make tough outside shots.
Mix up defensive looks regularly - I'm not deluded - the Nugs will come up with counters to the above pretty quickly, but different types of zones, different lineups and pre-switches should create confusion for ball-handlers, and hopefully force turnovers and poor shot selection.
Force Jokic post-ups to win games by the numbers. In theory, Boston can match Jokic's great post-up game (60.5FG% on post-ups) with Porzingis' (62.3FG%) - KP actually leads the league among bigs. Ideally they can force Denver's shot diet more towards Jokic post-ups (1.14PPP), and then countering that to carve out their own 3s, ideally from the corner, where they average 43% (=1.29PPP), and they won't even need a particularly hot shooting night to come out on top.
Stifle fast breaks with a "free safety" - so much momentum is lost on free buckets in transition, and if DWhite or Holliday can drop straight back to contest the freebies (like a free safety in the NFL), the Celtics will control the tempo much better.
Smother Jokic and Murray equally - they are like whack-a-mole, so you can't just focus on one, you have to really stifle them both (and when that is done you still have to worry about Gordon flying up out of nowhere to catch a superhuman lob from the dunker spot!)

I have run out of suggestions here, but looking forward to hear what others think we can do to answer the seemingly unstoppable Denver offense.

I am 22 years old - my problem is that I have been experiencing a strong impostor syndrome from the beginning. I have done the DIVA test three times with different psychologists. Each time I scored high, and basically, everything fits together rationally. I do indeed recognize the impostor symptom in myself. I discussed this with a friend who is finishing psychology studies and also has ADHD, and he supports my perspective.
Additionally, my father, who committed suicide, most likely also struggled with ADHD (based on the DIVA methodology, I asked the family and matched it to events that complicated his life further, plus, of course, chronic depression).Everything was rather stable until 3 days ago when I had bad lack for a psychiatrist (where I did the last DIVA and a specialist was recommended) - an online visit. I don't want to sound conceited (also, I'm not a doctor), but I had the impression that the psychiatrist I consulted often didn't know the answers to my questions and was evasive. He seemed more interested in my money than in helping and understanding me (I have seen 2 psychologists, 2 therapists, and 3 psychiatrists, so I have a comparison whether someone cares or is genuinely interested). I have scheduled my next appointment with a doctor that is leading ADHD treatment here in Poland
Returning to the point, my impostor syndrome flared up additionally when the psychiatrist stated during the interview that "the symptoms I experience are rather mild, or I somehow manage them, otherwise I would have problems with studying and working" (my professional life is okay, but about 4 times below my potential because I have issues with fluctuations in activity - I work intensely for several days, and then have a few days of a depressive period - it's not like manic-depression, it's rather about activity and the ability to motivate myself to do things, not finding less painful activities, etc.). This surprised me because I perceive them differently (and they seem more concrete than just excusing my inefficiencies). So, of course, I continued the previously started research to feel more at ease.
I was prescribed a dosage that seems non-standard: Medikinet 10mg CR daily, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and I can double it and then report back after finishing.All this has led to many questions and overthinking. The first day, 10mg didn't make much of an impression on me; it settled me a bit, I felt some interest, took the second dose in the afternoon as recommended, and, of course, couldn't sleep (despite 6mg of melatonin).
Yesterday, I took 20mg in the morning and felt the need to organize everything, and I cleaned the whole apartment, including scrubbing under the closet.Despite this, the impostor syndrome is so insidious that I keep wondering if I'm imagining things, over-researched, and adjusted the answers or interpretations of my life and events to fit the thesis.It's generally a terrible issue because I hope that after years of struggling with "depression," it will finally be addressed, and I can stop dealing with such matters and just focus on work - I am 22 years old, and my first visit to a psychiatrist for depression was around 15-16 years old.
Currently, I have the biggest dilemmas in the following areas, and I really hope someone could shed some light or guide me:

**Methylphenidate in a person without ADHD** - I couldn't find anything concrete on whether I can verify this - if, for example, I don't have ADHD, how should it affect me vs. someone with ADHD. It's so vaguely described on the internet that it's not clear if there's a concrete way to verify this to avoid questioning my own observations. Obviously, a solid diagnosis like a blood test or MRI for other diseases won't be available, but by nature, I'm a skeptic and need it grounded to sleep peacefully and not get into unnecessary discussions with people who barely understand the subject.
**Effectiveness of diagnostics** - I haven't encountered any data on how often diagnoses are invalidated. I read on Reddit (unfortunately, there are few better discussion places with a lot of content) that one girl had an ADHD diagnosis, took Adderall, and after about 2 years, it turned out it wasn't ADHD but some compulsive disorder. Is there any information on how many people with an ADHD diagnosis and prescribed treatment are misdiagnosed? It's known that in the USA, people sometimes stretch the truth to get Adderall, but I'm sure you understand my point and the essence of the matter.
**Dosage** - I have a bit of time left before my next appointment and wonder what I can do (but nothing stupid). My friend, for example, has 30mg CR in the morning and then has those on-demand Medikinet, which keeps him okay later in the day and doesn't cause sleep problems; he's considering switching to Concerta. From my psychiatrist, I basically got the information I already mentioned plus to avoid abusing alcohol. Is there anything I can change in these recommendations to not waste time? If I just take 30mg or 40mg in the morning (of course, gradually and checking the response weekly), am I exposing myself to any problems? I found out on my own that I won't die, but I'm interested in the effectiveness of this treatment, not messing around.
**A question completely omitted by the psychiatrist, and I didn't get any specific information, which is quite important to me**. In all the DIVA tests, I scored higher in adulthood than in childhood. In the last one, it came out as follows: Summary of symptoms according to DSM-5: I. Attention Deficit: Adulthood: 8/9, Childhood: 7/9 II. Hyperactivity and impulsivity: Adulthood: 9/9, Childhood: 8/9 III. Experienced symptoms are a source of significant problems, manifesting in at least 2 areas of life in both childhood and adulthood. After my own analysis, talking to my mom and sister, it's hard to deny that I had serious problems in areas affected by ADHD plus many “less obvious” symptoms that I learned about from PsychiatraPlus from Mr. Jóźwiak (thanks God he records because books and articles in Poland on the internet are often a disaster) in quite significant intensity. I'm still afraid of cognitive bias and fitting the situation to the thesis.

I noticed an increase in many symptoms attributed to ADHD after 2022 (when my father committed suicide, which involved PTSD therapy because I saw a lot, plus a depressive episode). Before, I might have had 2-3 such severe depressive episodes. I skimmed through (I emphasize because I might have missed something that would answer my question, and I don't want to appear lazy coming for a free ready-made solution) meta-analyses (The World Federation of ADHD International Consensus Statement: 208 Evidence-based Conclusions about the Disorder). This fragment intrigued me: "ADHD is rarely caused by a single genetic or environmental risk factor, but most cases of ADHD are caused by the combined effects of many genetic and environmental risks, each having a very small effect."
This, of course, suggested a possible scenario - a father with ADHD + trauma could have exacerbated my symptoms, hence now they are more noticeable to me than before, although it resonates more with me that conditions, tasks, and challenges I face have changed. I didn't observe myself in this regard before; I didn't have the knowledge; I attributed my failures to a different “legend” (I wasn't taught consequences, laziness, lack of discipline, if I tried harder, etc.) than ADHD. Obviously, I'm not so infantile as to expect someone to try to resolve this issue, but based on the current conclusive knowledge, how do you assess my line of thinking, does it hold together? Could I check anything else additionally?
To conclude, I know I need to find a good psychiatrist; I have one in mind, but it's pointless at this moment when I have prescriptions and "recommendations" to schedule and pay for a visit since I'll probably get not very in-depth answers (I also understand doctors don't have 2 hours to give a lecture on how and why things work), rather reassuring and "we'll observe." Whenever something stresses or confuses me, I just try to understand it, and when it turns out that my inherent skepticism activated unnecessarily, the problem disappears from the radar.
