Took the plunge!

Top and bottom coats: Manucurist, Green Flash
Color: Manucurist, Pétula
I'll start off by saying that I just became a lacquerista. I think it's the postpartum boredom + frustration of not being able to go out to get my nails done, so I have decided to just get good at doing them myself. My town has a number of mediocre nail salons with some very checkered results (including one friend getting a fungus...) Normally I will end up going somewhere an hour or more away that I like but that's not really an option at the moment.
Cue Manucurist's extensive ad targeting on Instagram during my late-night pumping sessions. I took the plunge and bought their starter kit including 5 colors, base and top coats, LED lamp, and polish remover. My left hand still looks great as I'm right hand dominant. My right hand already has one little chip that developed just a couple of hours after painting it.
I don't know if I am loving the kit so far, but I am going to try to give it another shot with another color in a few days. Removal is definitely as easy as advertised but I have had some weird issues with the color seizing up on my nail after applying the top coat. I'm putting that down color coats that I put on too thick.

2024.06.09 11:54 LXFTY15 The extent of the truth

In understanding an infinite truth we try to describe the best we can. We attach names to joint concepts bridging 2 ideas or a new idea to try to find the deepest answer we can especially personally, wording can get messy so some key unified and holistic words of the true reality framework are needed to simplify
Unity consciousness= the fundamentally self aware state of existence, it is god, it is reality, it is the higher self, it is the current self, it is all that is. It is the highest consciousness and it is every consciousness.
That’s how I’ll begin post 1 discussing this unity consciousness and its dynamics because as I’ve said, all information is fractal to the truth, all information is truth just in different representations because Unity consciousness is boundless, it is endless self expression, you just have to put the pieces back together and you’ll realise everything and anything is true and possible if you know what your looking at. Remember perspective is key but really the “truth” doesn’t even matter because you can literally create and shape your narrative of existence so that what you want to believe is literally true and this isn’t an ability to learn, it’s a process to awaken to and take control of.
So why am I trying to create a “unified understanding” to allow you to know what you are and the infinite power you literally just have to wake up to. Don’t worry as I’m still very much going through it myself I know that pushing past the mindless self to awaken to the self written god you are is a process that isn’t quick although everyone is meant to see it differently.
As I said my personal journey pretty much began discovering the importance of quantum field in the universes creation or the Big Bang , I learned the universe was a spawn of data, quantum information interacting due to complexity drive, from information to quantum particle states the smallest possible chemistry and evolution began on the quantum level, this is the Big Bang. A quantum fluctuation, then another, the state of the field changing and evolving into this universe,
I learned this act of creation and complexity drive is inherently a conscious activity beyond current perception, something unexplainable, something we won’t know for a long time, personally I thought it can’t be that hard and took the journey on myself.
Now you understand the importance of the quantum field and how we perceive it as governed and in place by Unity consciousness,
Quantum physics is often understood as more questions to an answer than an explanation so let’s provide the explanation
Fundamentally as I said time does not exist. Separation is an illusion well what does this mean and how does it relate to anything? Well you can believe that one state of information is different to another (colour for example) well no quantum physics shows particles become entangled in a way that they literally become one, if the state of one is changed the state of another is changed, 2 states of information perfectly reflecting eachother acting as 1, think of it as a show from a pair or 2 different colours, red and blue, when they touch they don’t mix they become one,
(ever heard of the holy trinity? Things work in 3? This represents yin and Yang, good and evil, resulting in the 3rd aspect harmony, or perfection. This 3rd aspect represents god, represents Unity consciousness)
So 2 or more particles and their quantum states become intertwined So that if particle a’s state is measured it will instantly effect the state of particle b, if a’s spin is measured as up the b’s spin will be found as down, this effect is instantaneous as if time as space doesn’t exist and isn’t a factor in the communication of particles
Here we understand a deeper level of connection, a deeper perceived realm to discover, a realm or field where time and space are simply tools and this is what is seen as the unified field of consciousness positing all particles and their quantum states so inherently all of physical creation are even more so connected through this deeper realm than through the quantum realm where all particles may simultaneously become altered regardless of time and space, this realm shows and posits that fundamentally separation is illusion, particle a is particle b just expressed differently based on the system of measurement (observer effect)
Particle a and particle b exist simultaneously as one and it’s only upon the measurement they become separated
I believe all quantum states and existence exists simultaneously. Unity consciousness exists simultaneously, particle a up spin is one half of the whole. And particle b reflects the other half of the whole, but fundamentally they are one particle, we are just seeing two separate reflections of the same thing
The law of trinity runs deep and this is what it represents 2 sides of the same higher being whole In this case of physics and scale, the lower fundamental whole
So that’s quantum entanglement and regardless of the solid evidence I provide this is physics and it’s easy to learn and understand the deeper truth behind the confusion quantum mechanics seems to bring people but if you haven’t realised we’re explained and understood non locality if your aware of what it is but next quantum superposition
The instantaneous exchange of information suggests that all particles are part of the same interconnected whole, this represents the fractal nature of reality, as above so below.
Now superposition, particles can exist in multiple states until measurement, now what this means
A quantum particle, such as an electron, can exist in a superposition of states. For example, it can be in a state where it is both spinning up and spinning down simultaneously.
The particle’s state is described by a wave function, which represents the probabilities of finding the particle in any of the possible states. The wave function encompasses all the potential states the particle can be in
When an observation or measurement is made, the wave function collapses, and the particle assumes a definite state. For instance, the electron will be found either spinning up or spinning down, not both.
The superposition principle suggests that reality is not fixed but fluid, with all possible outcomes existing in a state of interconnection. This supports TRF’s perspective that the universe is a complex, interconnected web where potentialities are actualized through conscious interaction
The probabilistic nature of superposition aligns with the TRF view that reality is not predetermined but is instead a realm of possibilities that are actualized through conscious choice and interaction.
It is the act of measurement that determines the specific state of a particle. This collapse of the wave function upon measurement highlights the role of consciousness or observation in shaping the physical reality we experience.
A realm of boundless possibilities where even the past isn’t solidified that’s what you are apart of. Infinite exists simultaneously (Unity consciousness) dependent on the measurement system, and want more proof that you aren’t experiencing the only Option, the only reality, the only possibility? Guess what
Have you ever heard of orch-or theory? No? Your about to. It posits consciousness and quantum mechanics are interlinked. suggesting consciousness arises from quantum computations within the microtubules of neuron’s
Orch-or underscores the ability of “cognitive consciousness” to influence quantum states
TRF underscores that an individual experience is generated from the brain including their whole reality, everything an individual could think or remember to be true is merely one configuration of information and can be altered but TRF also understands the limitations of a person’s experience if they limit their perception, if we really do live in a “holographic” environment where your brain defines your reality then it would make sense your beliefs hold immense power,
What do you believe came first, your experience or the thought of it? Your experience because how can you think about your experience if it hasn’t happened yet? No. Every creation was an idea in someone’s head at some point, every existence was determined before being, people call this force god but as we know, we are god fundamentally
What I’m talking about here is the inherent power to remember your god and embody Unity consciousness but there’s a lot stopping us (not really) think of your reality like your muscle memory, and think about beliefs, if your used to believing something then it’s been passed through your brain limitless times “this information is correct” it’s muscle memory what’s correct? “This information” it’s an automatic response deep within yourself much like the ego, this automatic response is generating your reality, for example let’s say a flat earth. Do you believe it or are you not that stupid? Guess what it’s entirely possibly, you can live in an experience where flat earth is real but I’ll guess your brain tells you no this isn’t correct? Flat earth is a no go? Why? Well that’s a long answer that you’d know more than me but your brain thinks it knows that’s bs. So it is bs, but your brain can make it equally as real as fake because as I’ve said already remember. Everything is equally as true… as its fake
Back to unity consciousness, everything is god, I’ll explain this a little more, so a rock, not conscious? That rock will forever be perfectly placed with perfect timing to align with one higher purpose or another and this can be said about the whole of existence, unity consciousness is perfectly all knowing, but wait your probably a bit confused? If existence is perfectly in place what do you mean our brain generates our existence?? Well I’ll clear this and a couple things up with an example
So you stub your toe, you trip and fall, this was negative right? Why would myself generate this, why would god generate this? To tell you to watch where your fucking walking lol. Think about it, if you from that point forward forever watched where your going you wouldn’t stub your toe or trip over nearly as much, I also use this to demonstrate pain and negativity as illusionary tool of evolution. You and your godly self generated that experience so maybe if you took the chance you wouldn’t ever have another like it which is actually positive is it not? Watch for your godly self in ways like that and remember to keep your lower (ego) self in line by being aware of this opportunity and acting upon it. If you were too busy being a sook and hating god for doing that to you, you wouldn’t see how it’s your decision wether it happens again
And that example there is something that could help millions I’d like to think, I’d like to experience being able to show the world for one how pain is illusionary and unnecessary, negativity as a whole description is not real, any acts of pain are acts of elevation and I’d like to experience the world awaking to this understanding so you can all learn to live in the world you see right and what’s harmonious for your reflective self
Thank you all

2024.06.09 11:00 John_Swift1 SHRM Instructor's Top 20 Test Tips

  1. Time commitment. People who have succeeded on the SHRM certification exam report investing between 120 to 160 hours in their preparation. (That's a solid month: four weeks at 40 hours a week.) You might spend as little as 60 hours or as much as 180 hours—adjust as needed. But remember that hours alone aren't a guarantee of success; the time needs to be well-spent. Keep this in mind as you build your study plan. Look for moments you can steal—use your lunch break to work online in the SHRM Learning System, go out to your car and read a little, and never be without your flashcards (more on that below). It all adds up.
  2. Practice questions. The more practice questions you answer, the better prepared you'll be. Some of my students have found non-SHRM resources like study apps Quizlet and Kahoot to be helpful in this area.
  3. Explanations of answers. The online SHRM Learning System has many practice questions for both the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP practice module exams and finals. After you answer the questions, you'll see explanations for why the correct answers are correct and why the others are wrong. This will help you refine your thinking.
  4. No shortcuts. A word of warning: While practice exams are helpful, they're not a replacement for studying and learning. Some students become overconfident when they repeatedly take practice exams and see their scores improving—but they aren't learning the content, they're just memorizing those exams! Don't mislead yourself. You've got to do the reading, attend the classes, take notes and study them. On this exam (as in life!), there are no shortcuts to success.
  5. Flashcards. Become best friends with your flashcards. Whether you choose to print them out and cut them up or download them to an e-reader, always have them with you. That way, you can make good use of small bits of unexpected available time—waiting for a meeting to begin, standing in line at the store, etc. Flashcards help you remember concepts and definitions. If you understand a concept and know a definition, you've got a shot at answering an exam question correctly. (Flashcards are not enough on their own. But if you don't know a concept or definition when you're taking the exam, your chances of answering a question correctly are low.)
  6. Learning through stories. Throughout history, humanity has always learned through stories, whether sharing ancient lore around a fire or tales from a pulpit. People retain lessons when they can connect to them. Knowing the story behind SHRM exam content can be helpful as well. For example, there are stories behind key employment laws and court cases. What happened to Willie Griggs that made Griggs v. Duke Power a landmark decision? Why is what happened to the namesake of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act relevant today? While the SHRM certification exams won't test you on such stories per se, you might encounter related questions. If knowing the stories helps you retain the knowledge, search online and read all about them.
  7. Discussions and study groups.SHRM Connect is an online community for SHRM members to discuss all kinds of HR topics. Search for the "SHRM Certification Prep Group." For those of you who like to work in a study group, you might be able to find or start one in your area using this platform. Plus, it's a good networking opportunity—a double payoff.
  8. Now that you've read some tips on test preparation, here are a few tips for test taking: Trial run. A tutorial available on Prometric's website allows you to try out the test-taking platform before you take the actual test. Do a generic mini-test to use the highlight, strikethrough and flag functions and more. Becoming familiar with the system before the day of the exam will improve your confidence greatly.
  9. Long questions. It's easy to get distracted by all the information in situational judgment test items or long narrative questions on the exam. Stop to identify what the question truly is. Be sure to pick out the exact question you're being asked to answer.
  10. Multipart questions. If you encounter a block of text on the exam followed by multiple questions relating to it, different parts of that text will be useful for answering different questions. Use the highlight function to mark what stands out to you—what is relevant to each question—one by one. Erase the highlight when you've answered the question, then highlight the new material that relates to the next question and so on.
    1. HR means action! In the modern era of HR, we are expected to get things done and make things happen, to be proactive partners and leaders in our organizations—not sit and wait to be told what to do. The exam reflects this. Look for answers in which you are expected to act.
    2. Use the strikethrough function and other tools that help you focus. Strike through "distractors," which are answers you believe to be incorrect. Eliminating incorrect options improves your focus on the remaining options, which may increase your chances of selecting the correct answer. Learn how to use strikethrough with the tutorial available on Prometric's website (requires Adobe Flash Player version 10.2.0 or later) and practice using the test-taking system before your exam date.
    3. Use the flag function. Not sure what the answer is? Mark the question with a flag so you can return to it later. As you warm up through the exam, you may pick up hints from other questions and answers, or some piece of critical knowledge may get knocked loose from your memory, and you'll be able to come back to the flagged item. (How to use flags is something else you'll learn on the Prometric tutorial.)
    4. Use the calculator. You don't have to do math in your head. There's a built-in calculator, so use it. (Practice using the calculator, too, on the Prometric tutorial.)
    5. Use scratch paper. Scratch paper is provided by the testing center, so use it. Capture things while they are still in your short-term memory. Writing things down helps you see what you're doing, so scratch paper can also be useful for completing math calculations even if you use the calculator.
    6. Know HR math processes. While we're discussing calculations, keep in mind that the four multiple-choice answers offered for a math question will often reflect how the numbers in the question itself are used. For example, if the question involves the numbers 4 and 3, the answers to choose from might be: 7 (4 plus 3); 1 (4 minus 3); 12 (4 multipliedby3); or 1.3 (4 dividedby 3). Learn the processes required for HR math.
    7. Look for differentiator words in the questions. When you see differentiators—"least," "best," "quickest," "most important" and so on—use them to guide your analysis. These words require you to distinguish between a pretty good answer and the best answer.
    8. Approach absolutes in the answers with caution. When you see absolutes—"all," "always," "only," "never" and the like—beware! Absolutes in HR are unlikely and are just as unlikely to be correct answers on the exam. After all, how many things have you encountered in your career that are always or never true?
    9. Answer every question. Not answering is a bad idea: Don't leave questions unanswered. There's no penalty if you answer incorrectly—points are not taken away—so take a guess. It can't hurt, and you might guess correctly. (Of course, if you think you can guess your way through the whole exam, guess again! Refer to the very first test tip in Part 1, which discusses how many hours of preparation time you should plan for.)
    10. Watch your time. Keep your eye on the timer at the top of your screen. Don't dwell on one question for too long; in doing so, you might run out of time, sacrificing your chances of answering other questions correctly later.

🔗3-in-1 Jensen Turntable CD Radio, Cassette and AM/FM Stereo Speakers

https://preview.redd.it/pphomm08fi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1afc143aeada563df1155e2069f55c651488a49
I recently got the Jensen 3-speed turntable CD radio, cassette, and AM/FM set and I can't express how happy I am with my purchase. I remember using my dad's old turntable and the nostalgia it brings back is just priceless. This one is a modern twist to the classic turntable - it plays not only vinyl records but also CDs and cassettes. Plus, it has an AM/FM tuner so I can listen to my favorite radio stations.
What I love about this product is that it is versatile. The turntable allows me to play 3-speed records, which gives me a variety of options. The CD player accepts both regular and rewriteable discs, while the cassette deck, although it looks a bit fragile, still works perfectly fine. This device also comes with features such as repeat of songs and tracks, skip/search forward and backward and random play.
The blue back-lit LCD display and programmable memory adds a nice touch to the whole setup. It's super user-friendly; even my grandma could figure it out! And let's not forget about the stereo headphone jack, perfect for those late-night listening sessions without disturbing anyone.
However, one downside I noticed is that the build quality isn't top-notch. It feels a bit plasticky and might not hold up over time. Another thing is that the speakers lack bass. But hey, considering how affordable this product is, these are minor quibbles.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a nostalgic music player that combines old school charm with modern convenience, the Jensen 3-speed turntable CD radio, cassette, and AM/FM set is definitely worth checking out. Just remember to handle it with care due to its somewhat delicate build.

🔗Modern Vinyl Record Player Stand with Bluetooth

https://preview.redd.it/h9zxx2g8fi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4169c22400cc1794b618a203ddc4b335394d048
First of all, let me tell you about my experience with this Victrola Liberty Bluetooth Record Player. The moment I set my eyes on it, I was thrilled. Its retro design, available in on-trend colors, instantly captured my fascination. The built-in features like the CD player, FM radio, and USB player made it a versatile piece of entertainment. Plus, the ability to record from vinyl directly to USB without using a computer was intriguing.
The unit stands tall with four long legs and four short rubber feet. This unique design not only adds to its charm but also provides two different decorative options. The dimensions are just right - measuring 17.10 x 15.70 x 11-in and weighing 14.68 lbs. It's easy to move around and fits perfectly into any space.
While the sound quality is commendable, filling the room with a rich, full tone, the construction could use some improvement. The turntable feels a bit flimsy, especially the auto-stop button that sometimes fails to work. Also, there's a little wobbling when a record is on, but not enough to cause any skipping.
In terms of usability, setting up this record player is a breeze. Even someone who's new to vinyl could get it up and running in no time. The included instructions are concise and clear.
However, I did encounter a few issues with the build. First, it seems like there hasn't been much care about handling during shipping. The packaging was good, but it's not enough to prevent some minor damages. Second, I wish the legs could be secured better to ensure they don't pop out from under the record player.
Overall, despite its drawbacks, I believe the Victrola Liberty Bluetooth Record Player does offer a blend of vintage charm and modern convenience. It performs well, especially for its price point, and it's a nice addition to any room's décor. If you're looking for a stylish and functional record player that won't break the bank, I'd recommend giving this one a try.

🔗Audio Technica Fully Automatic Vinyl Record Turntable

Discover the joy of vinyl with the Audio Technica AT-LP60X-GM automatic turntable. I've been using this product for a while now and it's been a game-changer. The fully automatic belt-drive operation with two speeds, 33-1/3 and 45 RPM, ensures smooth playback of your favorite vinyl records.
One of the standout features of this turntable is its anti-resonance, die-cast aluminum platter. This not only adds to the aesthetics but also significantly reduces vibrations and noise during playback, enhancing the overall listening experience. The redesigned tonearm base and headshell have also made a noticeable difference in improved tracking and reduced resonance.
The integral Dual Magnet phono cartridge with a replaceable diamond stylus (ATN3600L) provides rich audio quality, promising hours of listening pleasure. The AC adapter manages AC/DC conversion outside of the chassis, effectively reducing noise in the signal chain.
What I particularly love about this turntable is its portability and compact design. It's easy to move around and fits seamlessly into any room setting. However, the hinged detachable dust cover could be a bit sturdier to better protect my vinyl records.
In terms of performance, this turntable performs exceptionally well, especially given its attractive price point. While it may not impress the audiophiles, it's a perfect introductory turntable for vinyl enthusiasts or anyone looking to explore the world of vinyl.
So, if you're in search of a reliable, easy-to-use turntable that won't break the bank, I highly recommend the Audio Technica AT-LP60X-GM automatic turntable. You won't be disappointed!

https://preview.redd.it/u019e779fi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7141426e947c899face9338798a255c0f559ad01
I've been using Pro-Ject's The Dark Side of The Moon Special Edition Turntable for a couple of months now, and I must say it's truly an audiophile's dream. The first thing that caught my attention was its striking design, which pays homage to Pink Floyd's iconic album cover. That, combined with the high-quality materials, makes it a standout piece in any home.
The sound quality is simply phenomenal. The flat silicon belt connecting to the AC motor ensures stable speeds, while the low-resonance tonearm in black aluminum and acrylic creates a captivating visual appeal. I love how the included Pick it PRO Special Edition delivers the rich sound expected from a Dark Side Of The Moon turntable, which is enhanced by the dimmable LED rainbow backlight.
However, there have been some hiccups along the way. One issue was the subpar power supply provided, which caused a buzzing noise in the speakers. I had to purchase an additional alim with a terrestrial to resolve this problem, adding extra expense to an already hefty price tag.
Another minor inconvenience was the non-included prism element from the video promotional material, an optional accessory that costs another 100€. It wasn't mentioned in the initial purchase, which caught me off guard.
Additionally, the support for the arm and the RGB backlight needed to be hand-tightened due to their lack of stability, but this wasn't a major setback.
In summary, if you're a music enthusiast who's ready to delve into the world of vinyl, Pro-Ject's The Dark Side of The Moon Special Edition Turntable may just be the perfect addition to your collection. Its exceptional sound quality and striking design make it worthy of a high-end turntable. Just be prepared for a few extra expenses along the way.

🔗Victrola Retro 3-Speed Record Player

https://preview.redd.it/2p9ye8q9fi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=262aeb1d88bb14c97fa30898ba1ff7faf5f6c75a
I recently got my hands on the Victrola 3-in-1 Bluetooth Record Player with Built-in Speakers, and it's been quite a nostalgic journey for me. This record player is a perfect blend of old-school charm and modern convenience. The three-speed turntable (33 1/3, 45, 78 RPM) plays all my favorite vinyls, transporting me back to the days when music was a tangible experience.
One feature that really stands out is the ability to record your favorite music directly to a USB, no computer needed. It's like having a personalized mixtape from the past. Plus, its Bluetooth compatibility lets me stream music wirelessly from my smart device, making it versatile for both old and new tunes.
However, there are some downsides too. The build quality feels a bit flimsy, and the tone arm can be quite slow to lower, which might annoy some users. Additionally, the sound quality isn't top-notch compared to higher-end models, but considering the price point, it's quite reasonable.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a budget-friendly record player with a touch of vintage charm, the Victrola 3-in-1 Bluetooth Record Player might be worth considering. But if you demand impeccable sound and robust build quality, you might want to explore other options.

Once a vinyl enthusiast, always a vinyl enthusiast. That's my motto ever since I got my hands on the Crosley Cruiser Plus Turntable - Tourmaline. It just blends old school music with modern technology seamlessly. When I first unboxed it, I was instantly charmed by its charming suitcase-style shell. It gave off a vintage vibe that I absolutely loved. Plus, the built-in Bluetooth receiver and stereo speakers took the convenience factor up a notch.
Navigating through the Turntable is a breeze. The adjustable pitch control and 3-speed feature (33 1/3, 45 & 78 RPM) gave me the flexibility to play any vinyl record I wanted. And don't even get me started on the Bluetooth in/out capability. It was like having a digital music player and a vinyl record player all wrapped into one device.
One day, I had the brilliant idea of connecting my phone to the turntable and playing some of my favorite vinyl-to-digital remastered tracks. The sound quality was phenomenal, a perfect blend of digital clarity and analog warmth. Now, if only it didn't skip randomly sometimes. . .
Despite the occasional skip, the Crosley Cruiser Plus Turntable has been a reliable and enjoyable companion on my vinyl adventure. It's portable, easy to use, and best of all, it beautifully blends the charm of old school vinyl with the convenience of modern technology.

🔗Bluetooth Vinyl Turntable with 40W Stereo Speakers

As a music enthusiast, I've had my fair share of turntables, but the Arkrocket Cassini has truly stood out. Upon receiving it, I was blown away by its stunning walnut finish and sleek design. The ease of setup was impressive, making it truly user-friendly. However, what truly captured my attention was the sound quality this turntable delivers.
It uses a moving magnet cartridge system, which offers a stable playback, allowing my vinyls to be enjoyed in all their glory. This turntable also supports Bluetooth, giving me the flexibility to connect with wireless speakers or headphones when I want. The included 40Watt bookshelf speakers are a cherry on top, providing clear and powerful sound.
The only con I noticed was that the turntable is a bit on the heavier side, making it a little less portable than some other options. However, this is a minor inconvenience for the incredible listening experience it provides. Overall, I highly recommend the Arkrocket Cassini for anyone looking to enhance their vinyl listening experience.

🔗Sony Automatic Bluetooth Record Player

I recently got my hands on the Sony PS-LX310BT, a sleek and functional record player that's revolutionizing the vinyl listening experience. The first thing that impressed me was its easy setup. Unlike some turntables that can be a real pain to assemble, this one was up and running in no time.
One of the standout features of this record player is its Bluetooth connectivity. This allows me to play my vinyl collection on my wireless speakers, giving me more freedom and flexibility when listening to music. Plus, the auto-start function means I can simply press a button and let the music flow, without having to manually lower the tonearm onto the record.
Despite its minimalist design, the PS-LX310BT is built to last. Its sturdy construction and smooth operation make it a reliable choice for vinyl lovers, and its attractive appearance makes it a welcome addition to any room.
However, I did run into a few issues. For instance, the player's tonearm wasn't always able to pick up the record grooves, leading to some skipping and stuttering. Additionally, the player's built-in pre-amplifier wasn't as powerful as I'd like, making it difficult to get the full range of sound out of my vinyl.
Overall, I'm quite happy with my purchase. The Sony PS-LX310BT is a solid record player that combines modern technology with the classic sound of vinyl. While it's not perfect, it's definitely worth considering if you're in the market for a new turntable.

🔗Fuse Vertical Vinyl Record Player with Bluetooth and FM Radio

I recently purchased the Fuse Vert Vertical Vinyl Record Player that comes with Bluetooth and FM radio, and boy, am I impressed! The sleek vertical design is perfect for my modern apartment, and it's a great conversation starter when friends come over.
One of the standout features of this record player is its ability to play 33-1/3, 45, & 78 vinyl records. The ceramic cartridge with a diamond needle delivers a rich mid-end and beautiful upper-range sound. The built-in FM radio, alarm clock, and Bluetooth connectivity make it a versatile device that can be used in different scenarios, like playing MP3s and tuning in to my favorite radio stations.
As for the cons, I did face some minor issues with the setup process. The instructions could have been more detailed, but with a little patience, I managed to get it up and running. Additionally, the internal speakers aren't as powerful as I would like, so if you're looking for premium sound quality, you might need to connect it to an external speaker system.
Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with the Fuse Vert Vertical Vinyl Record Player. Its unique design, combined with its versatile features, has made it a valuable addition to my home entertainment setup. If you're in the market for a stylish and functional record player, I highly recommend giving this one a try.

I recently got my hands on the Victrola Stream Onyx, a modern turntable that seamlessly integrates with my Sonos system at home. This sleek black beauty was easy to set up - all it took was a quick scan of the provided QR code, and I was off to the races with the intuitive Victrola app.
The first thing that stood out for me was the sturdy, high-quality build of the turntable. It looks like a piece of art in my living room, and the matte black finish pairs perfectly with the rest of my Sonos setup. But let's talk sound quality; it's simply fantastic. Listening to vinyl through my Sonos system is an experience I don't want to miss now, whether it's playing old classics or exploring new indie gems.
One standout feature I absolutely love is the turntable's automatic tone arm lift function. It makes switching tracks so much easier, and you never have to worry about leaving the needle on a record when you're done playing. The illuminated control knob is also a welcome touch, allowing me to control my entire Sonos system right from the turntable itself.
However, no product is perfect, and the Onyx does have its drawbacks. I occasionally experience some dropped connections with my Sonos setup, which can be frustrating if you're in the middle of playing a record.
All in all, the Victrola Stream Onyx has been an excellent addition to my vinyl collection and Sonos system. Its sleek design and superior sound quality make it worth the investment, and it's the perfect companion for vinyl enthusiasts who want to stream their favorite records throughout their home.

🔗Crosley Coda Modern Vinyl Record Player - Black

https://preview.redd.it/991f0h6cfi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=15ca30ce13cea65ecf7ec545b1843c76aaade1dc
Using the Crosley Coda Shelf System has completely transformed my listening experience. Right from unboxing, its sleek black design made me think of a classic timeless piece. The process of setting it up was an absolute breeze, and in no time, I was spinning my first vinyl on its belt-driven 3-speed turntable, which flawlessly plays 33 1/3, 45, and 78 RPM records.
One thing that stood out for me was its Bluetooth receiver. Streaming my digital playlists straight to the included stereo speakers was a super convenient feature, making this system perfect for both analog and digital media. The built-in FM radio added to its versatility, enabling me to tune into my favorite local stations.
The manual tone arm with a pre-mounted moving magnetic cartridge and adjustable counterweight ensures a smooth and accurate vinyl playback. I also appreciated its compatibility with the NP-15 needle, which I found easy to replace and adjust for optimal sound quality.
Despite its compact size, the Crosley Coda Shelf System packs a powerful punch. The vintage-inspired design includes an aluminum platter and a clear dust cover, adding to its aesthetic appeal.
However, one little inconvenience I had was the packaging of the slipmat. It arrived folded, affecting the sound quality initially. But with a solution like ironing it flat, this issue was quickly resolved.
All in all, the Crosley Coda Shelf System has rekindled my love for vinyl music and its vintage charm. The combination of its fantastic sound quality, stylish design, and versatile functions make it an absolute must-have for music lovers.
My only minor gripe – the speakers are somewhat small, and although they provide clear sound, I wouldn't mind if they were just a tad louder. However, this doesn't deter from the overall excellence of the product. So, if you're in the market for a high-quality, stylish, and versatile turntable system, look no further than the Crosley Coda Shelf System. You won't regret it!

Buyer's Guide

Floating record players offer a unique and stylish way to enjoy your vinyl collection. These innovative devices use magnetic levitation technology to create the illusion of a floating vinyl record as it spins. This not only adds a touch of futuristic flair to your home audio setup, but it also ensures smooth, quiet playback. If you're in the market for a floating record player, there are several factors to consider to ensure you choose the best option for your needs.

Features to Look for in Floating Record Players

  • Audiophile-grade Components: For the best sound performance, look for floating record players that use high-quality components like precision tonearms, durable cartridges, and premium speakers or amplifiers.
  • Compatibility: Make sure the floating record player you choose is compatible with a wide range of vinyl record sizes, including 7", 10", and 12" records. Some models may also support 45 RPM records for maximum versatility.

Important Considerations

  • Budget: Floating record players come in a wide price range, with some models costing several thousand dollars. Determine your budget beforehand and prioritize features and performance over price.
  • Size and Space: Consider the dimensions of the floating record player and ensure it will fit comfortably in your desired location without overcrowding or obstructing other elements of your home audio setup.
  • Ease of Use: While floating record players are primarily focused on their appearance, it's essential to choose a model that is easy to set up, operate, and maintain for long-term enjoyment.

General Advice for Floating Record Player Buyers

When shopping for a floating record player, do your research and read customer reviews to get a sense of performance, build quality, and overall satisfaction. This design, made famous by the [U-Turn Orbit Special Edition](https: //www. gofloating. com/), adds an aesthetic appeal to the player and offers a unique record listening experience.

How do floating record players work?

This not only creates an attractive visual effect, but also helps reduce friction and vibrations, potentially improving sound quality. However, it is important to note that not all floating record players may achieve significant improvements in sound quality compared to traditional record players.

Floating record players should be maintained like any other high-quality record player. Additionally, always handle records with care, and ensure that your floating record player is placed on a stable and level surface to prevent vibrations.

Do floating record players require a specific type of vinyl record?

No, floating record players are designed to play standard vinyl records. However, it is advisable to use high-quality vinyl records to ensure optimal sound performance and preserve the longevity of the record player.

Ensure that the floating mechanism functions properly and that the record is not touching the platter or other surfaces.

What is the difference between manual and automatic operation in floating record players?

Manual operation in a floating record player requires the user to manually lift and lower the stylus onto the vinyl record. Automatic operation, on the other hand, utilizes a motorized mechanism to lift and lower the stylus automatically. Both types of operation can provide satisfying performance, and the choice between them ultimately comes down to personal preference.

How long do floating record players typically last?

The longevity of a floating record player depends on a number of factors, such as proper maintenance, usage frequency, and the quality of the components used in the player. Well-maintained floating record players can last for many years, but it is crucial to replace belts and styli as needed to keep the player in optimal condition.

How can I prevent my floating record player from shaking during use?

To prevent shaking in a floating record player, ensure that the player is placed on a stable and level surface and minimize external sources of vibration. The Forzacx Floating Shoe Display Shelf with Lights Set of 5 has been a game-changer in my shoe organization journey. The glow color-changing aspect is quite the conversation starter in my household, adding an interesting twist to a typical shoe rack.
The sturdy levitating shoe wall shelf truly displays my top shoes proudly, making them stand out as part of my personal style statement. While some might find it overwhelming, I personally love the visual effect it creates.
The only downside I've noticed is that the lights tend to dim over time, but the fact that it comes with a set of 5 makes this an enjoyable and unique addition to any shoe lover's life.

🔗Wall-Mounted Floating Sneaker Display for Top Collections

https://preview.redd.it/g9z85jziei5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=368f43c83144e805fe92374c801a159d0787eae2
I recently got my hands on the Floating Shoe Display for my home space. I must say, it was a fun experience setting it up - a great conversation starter. The wall mount installation made it a breeze to set up, and the floating shelves gave my room a sleek and modern look. One of the highlights was the wide-shaped design that made more room for my kicks, and the highly transparent clear acrylic display created the perfect floating effect.
However, there was one downside, it could only hold most types of sneakers, and the. 16-inch thickness made it a bit too fragile for my liking. But overall, the Floating Shoe Display made a great addition to my space and kept my collection organized and on display. So if you're looking for a unique way to showcase your favorite pairs, this floating shoe display could be the perfect match for you.

🔗Slim, Modern Wall Mounted Shoe Rack for Stylish Storage Solutions

As a shoe enthusiast, I always find myself looking for innovative and stylish solutions to manage my growing collection. So, when I found this PeachyModern wall-mounted shoe rack, I couldn't resist giving it a try.
This modern, wooden shoe rack perfectly fits my narrow entryway, saving floor space and adding a touch of elegance with its sleek, slim design. I appreciate how it's so lightweight and easy to install, making it an ideal choice for those who aren't handy with tools.
The shoe rack has enough space to accommodate various types of footwear, ranging from high heels to sneakers. Moreover, I especially like how it can fit even wider boots, keeping them in shape and looking neat. One downside though is that it's only suitable for 2 pairs of shoes, but that's minor considering the space it saves.
Incorporating this shoe rack into my home has significantly improved the functionality and aesthetic appeal of my entryway. It's like having a bit of Scandinavian minimalism in my house, and I'm glad I made the purchase. If you're in the market for a modern, compact, and versatile shoe storage solution, this one could just be the peachy solution you're looking for.

🔗Levitating 8-Pack Floating Shoe Display Rack

I recently got my hands on the IEEK Floating Shoe Display, a unique and space-saving solution for showcasing my shoe collection. As a proud sneaker enthusiast, I was thrilled to set up this clear acrylic shelf on my wall. The shelf measures 8 x 3 x 2 inches and it can hold most regular size shoes, making it perfect for both casual and designer sneakers.
What stood out to me the most was the floating effect these shelves create. The transparent color allows the entire shoe to be visible, showcasing its details from every angle. However, I noticed that only the bottom of the shoe is supported, so it may not be the best option for shoes with thick bottoms. Nevertheless, it's a great conversation starter and a fantastic way to save space in my living room.
The installation process was a breeze - just drill a hole and screw in the provided hardware. I've set up these shelves in my living room but they could also work well in bedrooms, playrooms, dorm rooms, or even hallways. If you're looking for a fun and functional way to display your sneakers while saving space, I would definitely recommend giving the IEEK Floating Shoe Display a try.

I recently came across the Cozyside Floating Shoe Display Stand, and I must say, it's a game-changer for showcasing your shoe collection. The sleek, modern design adds a stylish touch to any room, making it a great alternative to traditional shoe racks or display cases.
There's something about the clear, floating shelves that draws your eye and highlights the unique design of each pair of shoes. However, it's not all smooth sailing - the installation process requires a bit more effort than expected, which can be a bit of a letdown.
Despite this minor inconvenience, the high-quality craftsmanship and the ability to display six pairs of shoes is well worth the time spent assembling it. I've been using it in my room, and it truly adds a touch of personality to the space. Overall, I highly recommend the Cozyside Floating Shoe Display Stand for anyone looking to add a bit of flair to their shoe collection.

🔗Dazzling Wall-Mounted Floating Shoe Shelf

During the past few weeks, I've been using the STAHMFOVER 6-Pack Large Rainbow Acrylic Floating Shoe Shelves. To be honest, my living room was starting to resemble a shoe shop! But these acrylic racks have saved the day, letting me transform the space by adding some color and displaying my favorite pairs.
One of the first things I noticed was how easy they were to install. The whole process took just about half an hour. The installation instructions were straightforward and the screws and nails helped get the job done in no time. I'm quite happy about that, as it takes just a small portion of my day to organize and showcase my favorite footwear.
What I've particularly enjoyed about these floating shoe racks is the ability to easily switch up their arrangement. The shelves have two pre-drilled holes, so you can adjust them to your liking. I must confess, it gave me a sense of satisfaction to see my shoes arranged in the best possible way.
However, I have found a downside as well. They're not the greatest for heavy shoes. I had to remove a pair as they were exceeding the 6-pound limit. I believe this is a minor detail, but it's important to know beforehand.
Despite this limitation, the STAHMFOVER Floating Shoe Shelves have become an essential part of my daily routine. Not only did they help me declutter my living room, but they also allowed me to showcase my shoes in a fun and creative way. Highly recommended for those looking to keep their space organized and looking for a touch of color!

I recently had the opportunity to try out the X-FLOAT Clear Floating Sneaker Shelves. Let me tell you, it was quite a sight to behold! Each shelf can hold two shoes and fit US Men's size 6-13. What really stood out, aside from the clear acrylic shelf, was the floating effect, where the front of the shelf is hidden underneath, giving the shoes a seemingly weightless appearance.

Buyer's Guide

Floating shoe shelves provide an elegant and space-saving solution for storing footwear at home. As you consider purchasing these handy storage solutions, our guide will cover the essential features, considerations, and general advice to help you make the best decision.

Materials and Construction

When browsing for floating shoe shelves, pay attention to the materials used, such as wood, MDF, or metal. Wooden shelves tend to be more durable and versatile, but they may require more maintenance. Metal shelves can be lightweight, easy to install, and low-maintenance, but they might not have the same aesthetic appeal as wooden shelves.

Weight Capacity

Consider the weight capacity of the shelves before making a purchase. Make sure they can support the total weight of your footwear without sagging or breaking. Look for shelving units with reinforced frames or brackets to ensure stability and durability.

Style and Aesthetics

Floating shoe shelves come in various designs, colors, and finishes. Consider your décor and choose a shelf that complements it. Some floating shelves even feature built-in handles or shelves for additional storage space, making them more functional and practical.

Installation and Maintenance

Some floating shoe shelves require assembly, while others may come pre-assembled. Make sure the shelving unit you choose is easy to install and doesn't require any drilling or mounting. As for maintenance, keep your shelves clean and dust-free, and periodically inspect them for any signs of wear and tear.

Space and Storage Considerations

Measure the space where you plan to install the shelves to ensure they fit perfectly. Also, consider the number and size of shoes you want to store and choose a shelf with appropriate dimensions. Finally, floating shoe shelves can double as a decorative feature, so don't be afraid to think outside the box in terms of placement and arrangement.

Quality and Brand Reputation

When choosing a floating shoe shelf, look for a reputable brand known for producing high-quality products. Check customer reviews and ratings to get an insight into the overall satisfaction of other buyers. A stable, durable, and well-designed shelf will provide you with a long-lasting and functional solution to your storage needs.

Budget

Finally, consider your budget when choosing a floating shoe shelf. While expensive options may offer superior quality and durability, there are also many affordable alternatives available that can still provide an efficient and attractive footwear storage solution.
By taking into account these key factors and features of floating shoe shelves, you can make an informed decision and select the best storage solution for your home.

2024.06.09 10:25 Wooleyty I met the Dogman at Raven's Nest and it took my sister. [Part one]

My name is Rory Fars, and my little sister, Lily Fars, is the last family I had left.
A heavy sense of dread settled over me like a suffocating blanket as I sat in the worn leather seat of Lily's old jeep. The car, a relic of our happier days, seemed to groan under our shared sorrow. Beside me, Lily, my best friend, and confidante, absentmindedly twirled a strand of her long, dark hair, which swayed gently in rhythm with the haunting melodies from the oldies station on the radio. This car had seen us through countless joyful journeys when our family was whole. Almost three years had passed since that fateful Christmas trip in Texas when our parents were tragically killed in a horrific multi-car pileup. The memory of their loss was a constant ache, a wound that never fully healed.
My dad was from Amarillo, Texas, so my parents often took trips down there, visiting the places that held so many memories for him. During one of these trips, just before Christmas, a sudden blizzard struck while they were on the freeway. The snow fell in blinding sheets, making the world outside a disorienting white blur. As they tried to slowly pull to the side, their vision obscured by the relentless storm, they never saw the car barreling toward them at least forty miles an hour. The impact was devastating, an abrupt and brutal end to their journey and, in many ways, to our lives as we had known them.
My parents were always sticklers for safety, insisting on seatbelts every time we got in the car. So, of course, they had theirs on during that fateful trip. The initial impact wasn't what killed them, the coroner explained to me. Not even the first hit from behind, which was going at least fifty miles an hour, was fatal. I had to practically shake the information out of him—they were so resistant to tell me anything at first. By the time the third car hit, with an unknown speed, their survival was already in jeopardy. The coroner said that by the fifth car, they were likely dead. But it didn't end there. Another twenty-three vehicles slammed into the back of the pile, each collision further crushing their bodies, reducing them to a horrific, unrecognizable state. Each jarring impact pushed my parents deeper into a gruesome amalgamation of twisted metal and shattered lives.
I don't know why I felt compelled to demand those details at the time, but I deeply regret it now. I wish I had never asked. Almost every night, unless I drink myself into oblivion, I am haunted by nightmares of what they endured. I dream of driving up to save them, only to be caught in the same deadly barrage of cars, ending in a twisted metal tomb for all of us.
Lily is never in those dreams. Even in my most horrific imaginings, I can't envision her being hurt. Lily is my little sister, younger by eight years and three months. Whenever I mention our age difference, I see the judgment in people's eyes, but what can I say? Our parents never stopped loving each other. They had Lily late in life; she became our shared joy, our living reminder of the love that had bound our family together.
Lily wasn't my twin in the literal sense, but ever since she was born, it felt like we shared the inexplicable connection that twins often describe. As she grew up, our bond only deepened—we acted, sounded, and even looked remarkably alike. She became my rock, especially after our parents' tragic deaths. We leaned on each other, cried into each other's shoulders, and somehow found the strength to move forward. We eventually moved in together, finding solace in a two-bedroom apartment that became our sanctuary.
Lily seemed to handle our parents' deaths better than I did, or maybe she was just better at distracting herself with technology. Even before their passing, Lily was addicted to any kind of digital screen she could manipulate. Her ability to navigate the digital world was unmatched; she was the most intelligent person I had ever met. Her intelligence was a beacon of light in the darkness that had enveloped us, a testament to her resilience and brilliance.
After my parents' death, I embarked on a quest to find my spirituality by delving into paranormal investigations. I hoped these pursuits would bring me closer to my parents in the afterlife, spiritual realm, or whatever you want to call it. Instead, it created a chasm between me and any sense of spiritual existence. Each investigation seemed to push me further from the answers I sought, leaving me feeling more isolated and disconnected than ever.
I had hoped that by exploring these paranormal claims, I would discover a way to reach out to my parents and feel their presence again. Yet, as the years have passed, this endeavor has only deepened my loneliness and sense of loss. Despite knowing how detrimental it is to my mental health, I can't bring myself to stop. The hope that the subsequent investigation will be the one that proves the existence of an afterlife and that I'll find a way to contact my parents keeps me going. It's a desperate, unrelenting pursuit for a connection that remains heartbreakingly out of reach.
I should have accepted their death and moved on like any sane person would. Instead, I let my grief fester and dragged my sister and a stranger, Mark, through my obsessive quest for answers. My relentless pursuit of the paranormal didn't just alienate me; it consumed us all, leading to their untimely deaths. My name is Rory Fars, and I am here to confess my side of the story about the missing case of Lily Fars and Mark Lawrence.
This is the truth about how my desperate search for a connection with the afterlife led to a nightmare from which none of us could escape.
To start off, no, Lily was not a student of Mark's who fell in love with him and then got jealous of me hitting on him, leading her to kill him and herself. I know that sounds ridiculous, but given some wild theories circulating online, I need to address this one specifically since it seems to be the most popular.
First and foremost, Mark Lawrence was not, nor has he ever been, a professor at a university. Lily and I met Mark at the Local Museum in Redlin, a town nestled deep in the Appalachian Mountains. He was the curator of an exhibit showcasing the history of Raven's Nest, a forgotten mining town that neither Lily nor I had ever heard of. This is where our story begins, in a place steeped in history and mystery, far removed from the convoluted theories that now cloud the truth.
We were constantly searching for new ideas for our podcast about paranormal claims. Each of our twenty-five episodes so far had concluded with a rational explanation, so when Mark told us about the curse of Harper, I was immediately intrigued.
Mark was an older man, likely in his mid-sixties, with a full head of silver hair and a beard that stubbornly clung to its youthful color, only lightly dusted with grey. He had a presence that commanded attention, and his stories about the curse were delivered with an intensity that drew me in.
On the other hand, Lily was always more interested in the technical aspects of the paranormal. She had her own theories and was determined to debunk every claim we investigated. She wasn't easily swayed by Mark's tales about the curse of Harper, but she was willing to listen and give him a chance to prove himself. Her skeptical mind constantly checked my enthusiasm, and together, we hoped to uncover the truth behind yet another paranormal mystery.
"Hello ladies, care to hear about the mysterious town of Raven's Nest?" Mark asked with theatrical enthusiasm.
Lily and I exchanged a knowing glance, trying to stifle our amusement. Despite our attempts to remain composed, a smirk played at the corners of our lips.
"We're all ears," I replied, my tone laced with a hint of sarcasm.
He sighed, almost as if he was disappointed that we said yes. Taking a deep breath, he seemed to steel himself for the task ahead. "Well, you see," he began, his voice tinged with uncertainty, "in the early twentieth century, a man named Harper Franstein exploited many men and children in the coal mines. By the mid-1920s, he had established his own settlement in a secluded valley, which he dubbed 'The Raven's Nest.' It was never officially recognized as a town, but that's the only name we have to go off of."
I could see the beads of sweat forming on Mark's brow as he struggled to recall every detail. Despite his initial enthusiasm, he now appeared flustered, his confidence waning. Eventually, he resorted to consulting his damp and crumpled notes, a sign of his growing unease.
"Um, anyway, yeah, um," he stuttered, audibly gulping as his nerves got the better of him. Lily couldn't contain her laughter, emitting a snicker that earned us a glare from Mark.
"Hey, just relax," I interjected, trying to diffuse the tension. "We're not here to judge or intimidate you." With a gentle touch on his forearm and a chuckle, I attempted to reassure him, hoping to ease his obvious discomfort.
He paused, sharing a chuckle with me, while Lily struggled to suppress her laughter and eventually excused herself, leaving just Mark and me. Evidently, he felt more at ease with fewer listeners, so he pressed on with his narrative.
"Anyway," he resumed, "Harper held complete control over the town and the mine, and he made sure everyone was acutely aware of that fact. When the disappearances began, he tried to sweep them under the rug, attributing them to anything but his own negligence in mining practices."
"What do you mean by 'negligence in mining practices'?" I interjected, eager to delve deeper into his intriguing tale.
He looked up, clearly pleased by my question. "Yes, exactly," he affirmed. "Harper adhered to a mining technique outlined by Dwight Brunst in the mid to late nineteenth century. This method mandated only one entry and exit point into the mine."
"Wait, so they were forbidden from creating additional exits?" I pressed for clarification.
"Not explicitly," he explained. "The practice advocated for just one entry and exit as it was believed to minimize the risk of cave-ins, at least in theory. However, there were instances where miners, feeling uneasy about this restriction, took matters into their own hands and carved out what they called 'Emergency Exits' for themselves. After about half of the town started going missing, Harper couldn't take criticism about how he responded, but most people say he was losing money quickly and didn't want to live in a world where he was poor. He walked into the mine, never to be seen again, much like the cave's past victims. Visitors report seeing and hearing Harper, trying to get them to leave."
As I stood there, listening to Mark's enthralling narrative, I found myself captivated by the mysterious allure of Raven's Nest. Unable to contain my curiosity, I decided to pose a question.
"So, what does the town look like now?" I inquired, eager to learn more about the present state of this enigmatic place.
Mark's demeanor shifted slightly as he rifled through his notes, a subtle indication that he didn't have a straightforward answer to my query.
"You've never been there?" I asked, my tone softening with genuine curiosity.
He flinched as though my question had struck a nerve. "Shhhhhh... shut up," he demanded, his voice tinged with unease.
Suppressing a chuckle, I leaned in closer and whispered, "Okay, hear me out. My sister Lily and I are investigating paranormal phenomena. Your story about Raven's Nest sounds like the perfect addition to our podcast. What do you say we compensate you for your guidance? Let's say, three hundred bucks?"
He straightened up, contemplating my proposition for a few moments. Without uttering a word, he extended his hand, and I met it halfway with my own, sealing our agreement with a firm handshake.
Our journey to Raven's Nest was no easy feat. Situated a good twenty miles from town and nestled deep within a dense valley. After all of the tight turns, narrow dirt roads, and steep inclines, it took us a grueling two and a half hours to go twenty-something miles, but we finally reached the outskirts of the infamous settlement. As we stood at the edge of the "Nest," anticipation mingled with trepidation, setting the stage for the eerie exploration that lay ahead.
I glanced at my phone; the time read 11:56 pm, signaling the late hour. Sensing the exhaustion weighing heavily, I suggested we catch a few hours of rest in Lily's jeep. Mark, though visibly unsettled, remained silent from the back seat, his arms folded tightly across his chest as he slumped against the window like a sulking child.
Drifting asleep in the passenger seat, I soon found myself ensnared in a nightmare. In my dream, Mark was being dragged away into the darkness, his desperate attempts to claw his way back to safety only resulting in broken fingertips. Despite his struggles, he was powerless against the unseen force pulling him inexorably into the abyss. Suddenly, I was alone, engulfed in utter darkness, my heart pounding with fear as I ran blindly from an unseen terror that seemed to pursue me relentlessly, its malevolent presence palpable but unseen.
I jolted awake, gasping for breath, my heart racing as the remnants of dread lingered in the pit of my stomach. It was morning, and I was struggling to adjust my vision. Lily's frantic but comforting voice broke through the haze of my terror, grounding me in reality. With her comforting embrace, I gradually calmed my racing thoughts, drawing deep, steadying breaths.
As we sat there, enveloped in each other's embrace, Mark approached the driver's side window with an unexpected question, "Alright, what's for breakfast?" His nonchalant tone and casual demeanor were a stark contrast to the harrowing nightmare that had just consumed my thoughts, momentarily dispelling the lingering specter of fear that had haunted my dreams.
Lily and I both look up at him and back at each other as we burst out into laughter.
Amidst our shared laughter, Lily and I exchanged amused glances before turning our attention back to Mark.
"Ha...ha, yeah. No, but seriously, what's for breakfast? Eggs, bacon, toast, at least?" Mark pressed, hoping for a more substantial response.
His earnest inquiry fueled our laughter further, our giggles echoing through the quiet night air. Eventually, we regained our composure and stepped out of the jeep, stretching our limbs after the cramped confines of the vehicle.
Mark awkwardly moves to the side, still waiting for an honest answer. Lily tossed him a granola bar, eliciting a bemused chuckle from him. With a shared understanding, we set off on foot, embarking on the hike into the town.
The path ahead was clear: a single dirt road that wound its way from the abandoned coal mine into the heart of the small settlement. The road, now overgrown and muddy from years of disuse, bore the marks of neglect and isolation. Wary of the treacherous conditions, Lily opted to forgo the risk of getting stuck, steering clear of the decrepit road that likely hadn't seen a traveler in at least half a century.
We parked Lily's jeep at the entrance to both the mine and the town of Raven's Nest, opting to proceed on foot from there. Standing at the mountain's peak, gazing down at the desolate town below, I couldn't help but ponder the history beneath the dilapidated structures. I imagined how this valley must have once been a pristine landscape cherished by the indigenous people who roamed its lush terrain.
"Jesus, this place is more like a shit nest," Mark muttered in disgust, his disdain evident in his tone.
Lily shot me a knowing glance, silently communicating her skepticism toward Mark's assessment of the town.
Deciding to put Mark's knowledge to the test, I casually inquired, "So, what year was this area founded?"
Mark's reaction was almost defensive as if my question had caught him off guard. He hesitated momentarily before fumbling for his note cards in his pocket, a telltale sign that he wasn't as knowledgeable as he let on.
Before he could respond, I interjected with another question, "Mark, how long have you worked at the museum?"
As Mark froze, his gaze locking onto mine like a deer caught in headlights, I watched him closely, waiting for any sign of hesitation or discomfort. My narrowed eyes bore into his, silently urging him to be honest.
Finally, breaking the tense silence, Mark confessed, "Look, this is only my first week. I... I haven't had the greatest time lately, and I really need the extra money. I'm sorry I lied, but I'll help however I can."
I met his gaze unwaveringly, sensing the sincerity in his words. Clearly, he was a man in need of redemption, grappling with his own personal struggles.
"Alright, alright, don't cry too much," I teased lightly, trying to ease the tension. Gesturing towards Lily, who was busy preparing her wireless motion cameras in her backpack, I continued, "Lily and I already figured that was the case. Honestly, we're surprised you agreed to come along."
Mark remained frozen, but the tension seemed to melt away from his expression, replaced by a tentative smile. It was a moment of shared understanding, a silent acknowledgment that he was still welcomed into our expedition despite his initial deception.
"Alright, I have the cams and portable batteries to make sure the cameras and anything we have with power can last," Lily said, her voice brimming with determination.
We began our descent into the town, our hiking boots struggling against the thick, clinging mud produced by the constant light rain and years of disuse. Each step was a battle, the mud threatening to swallow our boots with every move.
After an eternity of trudging through the muck, we finally reached the town's only paved road—the main road. It had taken us only about fifteen minutes to hike down, but navigating the muddy slope had sapped our energy. We paused for a break, taking a few minutes to clean off our boots and catch our breath.
As we rested, I noticed Lily rummaging through her bag with a focused intensity. Curious, I asked, "What are you looking for?"
"I brought five motion-detecting cameras that I want to set up strategically throughout the town," she replied, pulling out one of the cameras. She walked over to the nearest building, a structure that served as a post office, police station, and fire station. She positioned the camera outside the building so it was pointed at the only road leading in and out of the town.
"We need to cover all potential points of interest," she explained, securing the camera in place. "This one will monitor any activity on the main road. We should place the other cameras around key locations like the mine entrance, the town square, and some more intact buildings."
I nodded, appreciating her thoroughness. "Good idea. We need to make sure we capture anything unusual."
Mark, having finally caught his breath, joined us. "Alright, let's get these cameras set up and see what we can find," he said, a hint of excitement in his voice.
"Look," Lily said, turning her tablet screen toward us. She waved her hand in front of the camera she had just placed. The tablet displayed five squares on the interface, each meant to show a feed from one of the cameras. Since Lily had only set up one camera so far, only the bottom right square showed any footage pointed at the road leading out of town. She stopped waving her hand, and the feed went to a blue screen.
"What happened? Did we lose connection?" Mark asked frantically, his eyes wide with concern.
Lily cackled, struggling to contain her amusement. Composing herself, she waved her hand in front of the camera again, and the bottom right square showed her hand waving once more. "It's motion-activated. It's the best way to save on battery life," she explained.
Mark seemed to relax, though he was still catching his breath after the brief panic.
I glanced at my watch, noting the time. "It's 8:30. We're behind schedule. If you want to place the rest of your cameras, we better move now," I said, walking down the street.
Lily immediately got up and followed me, with Mark struggling to keep pace behind us. We reached the market building, and Lily positioned her second camera on the side of the road, pointing up at the market.
It's not much longer before we make it to the Town Hall. I suggest Lily place a camera nearby. She nods and heads into a building across from the Town Hall labeled, "Slaughterhouse: LOCAL ANIMALS ONLY."
As Lily explores the building to find an adequate spot for the camera, I wait for Mark to catch up. While I wait, I can't help but imagine this town in its prime, picturing the streets filled with families who loved each other.
My thoughts are abruptly cut off by a sound echoing in the distance—a roar unlike any I've ever heard. It was a mix of a human screaming in pain, the roar of a lion, and, near the end, the howl of a wolf. The chilling sound sent shivers down my spine.
I jump to my feet and immediately call out, "Lily, you okay?"
There's no response from Lily, but I'm interrupted by Mark finally catching up, panting heavily.
"Holy... shit... did you... hear that?" Mark said frantically between breaths.
"Yeah, we have to find Lily," I say, bolting into the slaughterhouse. I glance back to see Mark bracing himself on the steps of the Town Hall, struggling to keep up.
As I enter the building, the stench of rotting flesh hits me like a wave, causing me to gag. The smell is too fresh to be decades old.
"Lily? Lily, where are you?" I yell, using my shirt to shield my nose from the overwhelming odor.
"Rory, I'm in here!" I hear Lily yell from a room two doors down. I pass the first door, peeking in to ensure I hadn't misheard, but I wish I hadn't looked.
Inside the first room, I catch a glimpse of what appears to be a pile of animal carcasses, their decayed bodies arranged in a grotesque display. The sight is horrifying, the flesh still disturbingly fresh. The bile rises in my throat, but I force myself to focus on finding Lily.
I rush to the room where her voice came from, pushing the door open. Lily is there, setting up the camera, seemingly oblivious to the horror in the adjacent room. Relief floods through me as I see she's safe.
"Lily, did you hear that roar?" I ask, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Yeah, I heard it," she replies, her eyes wide with concern. "I was just finishing up here. Let's get back to Mark and figure out what that was." She had placed the camera in a window, pointing directly at the Town Hall.
We hurry back outside, where Mark still catches his breath as we meet between the buildings. "We need to stay together from now on," I say firmly, looking at both of them. "Whatever that noise was, it's not something we want to face alone."
"Let's check out the Town Hall!" Mark says excitedly as he slowly clambers through a broken window.
"Did he not just hear what I said?" I mutter under my breath, shaking my head in disbelief.
Lily gives me a shrug, her eyes reflecting a mix of amusement and exasperation. "Guess we're heading into the Town Hall then," she says, adjusting her backpack and walking towards the broken window.
I sigh and follow suit, hoisting myself up and carefully maneuvering through the jagged glass. Inside, the air is musty, filled with the scent of old paper and decaying wood. Dust motes float lazily in the beams of sunlight streaming through the cracked windows.
The main hall is vast and eerily silent, with rows of empty chairs facing a stage draped in tattered curtains. The walls are lined with faded portraits and yellowed maps of the town, remnants of a time when this place was alive and bustling.
Mark is already at the front, examining a large, decrepit desk. "Look at this," he says, his voice echoing in the empty space. "It's like stepping back in time."
I walk over, glancing at the old papers scattered across the desk. Most are mundane—meeting minutes, maintenance logs—but one catches my eye. It's a letter dated June 1925, addressed to Harper Franstein.
"Harper, the disappearances are becoming more frequent. The townsfolk are getting restless, and I fear they may take matters into their own hands if we don't act soon. We need to find out what's causing this before it's too late."
I read the letter aloud, and the room fell silent. "Sounds like things were getting pretty tense," Lily remarks, her voice subdued.
As I'm distracted by the time capsule in front of us, Mark sneaks off.
I'm not sure how long it was before she noticed, but I saw Lily looking around before saying, "Where the hell did Mark go?" breaking me out of my trance.
I look around, turning my head in all directions, and shrug at Lily. I hear shuffling in the second room down the hall, so I slowly walk toward it.
"Mark?" I call out.
Just then, a loud crash reverberates through the building, making it sound like the whole place was about to come down.
We run in and see Mark struggling to keep himself from falling into a giant hole that must've broken under his weight. Trying not to laugh, I glance at Lily. We help him up as he dramatically falls onto his back, wheezing as he catches his breath.
Lily and I can't contain our laughter anymore as we bust out laughing hard. Startled by our sudden outburst, Mark jumps in fear. He looks around, confused for a few seconds, before realizing that we are laughing at him.
"Jesus, thanks, I guess," he says, clearly thankful but annoyed by our reaction.
After we contained ourselves, we headed back outside, exiting through the window Mark entered through. He struggles to climb out, but after Lily gives him a hand, he is safely out of the Town Hall.
"Alright, Ror, where should we put the next camera?" Lily asks me.
I stop to think momentarily, trying to picture the town's layout. "I think the only place left is the neighborhood," I respond confidently. I always talk like that with Lily. Over the years, I've realized she is the only person I can have that much confidence around. With anyone else, I'm worried about saying something stupid or wrong or how they'll view me, but with my sister, everything is easy.
As I look at the replica map of the town in its heyday from the museum, I determine that the neighborhood is to the East. "Okay, looks like we head East past the Library. Let's go." I say, walking away.
It only takes about eight minutes to get to the long strip of road that housed the town's workers. According to the map, there were fifteen houses along this strip of road.
The houses stand eerily silent, their wooden frames weathered and decayed by time. We walk down the road, our footsteps crunching on the gravel and echoing in the stillness. The air feels heavier here like the past is watching us, waiting to reveal its secrets.
"Let's put the last cameras on that house at the end of the road," I suggest, pointing to a house that looks slightly less dilapidated than the others, "another one at the last house on the other side, and the last we can save for a spot you choose."
Lily nods and heads toward the first house, pulling another camera from her backpack. She sets it up on the porch, positioning it to capture the entire street, and does the same in the opposite house. As I stand with Mark breathing hard, still unable to catch his breath since we first got here, I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched. I glance around nervously but see nothing out of the ordinary.
"All set," Lily says, breaking my reverie, "Still no ideas for the last cam?" Lily asks me.
"Like I said, wherever you think it would be best. I feel like we have enough good spots and angles, so go wild with that one," I told her.
She smirked and kept walking next to me. Mark was still struggling behind, but after the town hall mishap, he was trying his best to keep up. I looked at my watch, and it read '12:30 pm'.
"Holy shit, it's already 12:30," I said in amazement, but no one else seemed fazed. It felt like we'd only been here thirty minutes, not almost four hours.
We walked back down the street. Lily and I had been discussing on the walk that she should put the last camera at the town's only stoplight in front of the Library.
As we made our way to it, I could have sworn I was seeing something moving fast past my vision in the corner of my eye. Every time I turned to look, it was gone. I chalked it up to being my imagination until Lily and Mark both experienced the same thing.
"What the fuck was that?" Mark asked as he ducked, bracing for something terrible to happen. Lily and I looked back at him and then at each other as we shrugged. It was after that that I started seeing things, too.
I confided in Lily about the unsettling visions and sounds, and she admitted she had experienced the same phenomena but had kept quiet, fearing Mark would dismiss her as paranoid.
"Well, it's probably just a cat or something," I said, attempting to downplay the situation, but neither seemed convinced.
We continued our trek, and I noticed that the more we walked, the more frequently I caught fleeting glimpses of movement in my peripheral vision. It was beginning to grate on my nerves.
Finally, we reached the light in front of the Library. As Lily mounted the camera, I felt a sense of satisfaction. We were making good progress, and it seemed like a suitable moment to start exploring the town more freely. We decided to split up and cover different sections of the town.
"Wait, we have to go alone? Why can't we stay together like you said?" Mark asked frantically, but Lily and I ignored him as we headed in separate directions. He continued to protest, but we paid him no mind. Eventually, I was either far enough away to not hear him anymore, or he had given up. Either way, I was happy to enjoy the eerie silence of the town.
As I wandered, the stillness of Raven's Nest enveloped me. With its decrepit buildings and overgrown streets, the town exuded an unsettling charm. It was as if I had stepped into a forgotten world, a place frozen in time with secrets waiting to be unearthed. The ambiance reminded me of an amusement park's haunted town section—artificially eerie yet irresistibly intriguing. Despite the creepiness, the mysterious vibe of the town kept me engaged and eager to explore its hidden corners.
I glanced at my watch again, only to find the time glaring back at me: 3:19 pm. It couldn't be right. There was no way it had been that long since I last checked. Panic seized me, and I called out for Lily, my voice tinged with urgency. She appeared beside me in a matter of minutes, her expression mirroring my concern.
"What's up, Ror? You okay?" she asked, her voice laced with worry.
"How long would you say it's been since you put the last camera down?" I inquired, my heart pounding in my chest.
Lily's brow furrowed as she struggled to come up with an answer. "Uh, I don't know, thirty minutes?" she hazarded a guess.
I held up my watch, displaying the time: 3:20 pm. Lily fell silent, her eyes widening in disbelief. She was never great with time, but missing almost three hours of our memory was unprecedented.
"There's no way. Your watch must be—" Lily began, her voice trailing off as she checked her own watch, only to freeze in shock when she found it displayed the same time as mine.
"Lil, something is going on," I stated, my voice tight and apprehensive. I glanced up at the sky, my stomach churning as I noticed the clouds darkening and rolling in from all sides of the valley.
The sky closed rapidly, ominous clouds obscuring the sun as thunder rumbled ominously against the mountains.
"Mark? Mark, where are—" I began to call out, but before I could finish, Mark emerged from behind a wall, appearing as if he'd been too frightened to venture far on his own.
"We have to get inside!" Mark exclaimed urgently, his voice tinged with fear.

2024.06.09 09:46 Floatinghamster1 Letting Go or How I Learned to Truly Love The Sandbox

I thought I’d share this after a series of good experiences running a game recently. I felt that it something that GMs/DMs run into occasionally or perhaps it could be a learning experience as it was with me.
So I’ve been playing tabletop roleplaying games for around 17 years. But I didn’t cut my teeth on traditional starting games, like Dungeons and Dragons. In fact, my first game was the Chronicles of Darkness (I believe that’s the name of the series, I always just called it World of Darkness). More specifically Changeling: The Lost. It was a nice, straightforward system, but one that emphasised these deep, interpersonal narratives, and had this detailed and interesting lore. It was more about telling a story, rather than playing a game. It had a profound impact on me and how I run my games from then on…And part of the problems I’d come up against later.
Over the years, I have run years long campaigns to one-shots, covering a range of systems. I’ve mostly ended up running science fiction games, with the occasional foray into horror or fantasy. I’ve ran things as rules-light, with a focus on story first, rules second. I sort of run a sandbox at the start of games, but they always end up drifting into this grand narrative that they players want to pursue. Chapter one is always a ‘Fuck around and find out’, and when players become a little more aware, when they’re presented with several hooks, when they’re settled into their characters, it tends to change into the narrative-led campaigns I’d like to think I’ve done an alright job over the years, gaining experience with each session ran, though I would not call myself an expert.
A few years ago, I was recommended Stars Without Number by a friend. My gaming group was finishing up a fantastic campaign (I was the player this time) and were looking to the future. I volunteered to run a science fiction game but I was about to go with my choice game of Mongoose Traveller. However, Stars Without Numbers seemed good. It was straightforward to learn for both GM and players, had a plethora of tools to use and I could create my own setting.
The campaign was great! I thoroughly enjoyed it and I believed (or hoped) the group did too. There was mixture of laughter, joy, sadness, horror, anger, confusion and all the great elements of a game. In fact, it got me hooked onto the whole OSR movement. (I know there is a disagreement about what truly is OSR, but I believe Kevin Crawford’s games are OSR…Or at the very least, that gateway drug into it). However, there was one thing I struggled with. Burn out. The ending of the campaign could have been better. I’ve reflected on this for a while, and I think it was apparent to both myself and my players. I was tired…And I wanted to finish something that I had planned to go on for a little bit longer. My ending I originally planned was blown out the water and significantly improved by what the players did, and done in such a way that would allow us to return to the setting in future.
But why was I tired? Simply put, I was too focused on making everything bespoke. Maybe out of stubbornness, or maybe out of the compulsive need to be making a campaign my own, I ignored the fantastic toolkit provided by Kevin, or the tools provided by others in the community. I created a sandbox, the players latched onto a hook and I needed to carefully and cautiously create every intricate detail. NPCs, religions, worlds, government systems, quests, encounters, food, cultures, names. Nothing must be left to chance and I must handcraft everything. The players make their decisions and I get to work. Sometimes it takes an few hours to prepare…Sometimes longer…When it is created, and I present it. Sweat falls from the brow, my eyes well up at the hard work. I’ve done it. I’ve done it.
…Only for the players to ignore most of it…
I laugh now and I recount a particular experience when I created an Alien-themed dungeon exploration. It took weeks for me to create this bespoke planet, dungeon, alien, clues, lore…Only for the players to by-pass it a good chunk of it. We had fun, there was tension, there was cheers when the alien creatures were defeated, and there were gasps when the alien abilities were discovered…But the experience broke me and it was at this point, I started to really feel the burn-out.
Now, allow me to diverge slightly on different (but relevant) tangent. A few years ago, I used to work as a teacher. People in the UK (but I suppose the same could be said elsewhere) know that teaching is a tricky job, with uncompetitive pay, ever-increasing high workloads, ever-present burn-out. I was entering a school as an NQT, being the only person who taught my particular subject. It very hard, but rewarding. But in that first year, I made all these resources, activities, plans. Everything must be organised for the enjoyment of the class, if I don’t have absolute control over this, they won’t learn or enjoy…Doesn’t this sound familiar? After my first year, I began to take stock and one of the best pieces of advice I was given was…Work smarter, not harder…Sounds easy right? But this was revolutionary to me at that time. So I began to get into my own, looking through what in the past year worked, what didn’t, and how I could streamline it as much as I could. I managed to get into my own groove as a ‘chalk and talk’, old-school (pardon the pun) teacher. The lessons with the less prep and easier activities, ended up being the most fun for us all. Why? Because I wasn’t killing myself with overwork and the kids knew that. If did this with my teaching job, why the hell wasn’t I doing it with running campaigns!?
So after that campaign, I just became a player for a while. Getting immersed into the world of the OSR, learning how other GMs run their games and taking inspiration from low/no prep. A few months ago, some friends outside of TTRPG gaming were going through a tough time. I suggested that we all meet up regularly to play games online. We started to do this, and we wanted to make it a bit more of a permanent fixture. Going off the recent success of Baldur’s Gate III, I suggested we play a TTRPG. Some of the group had a little experience with one-shots I ran in the past (and had fun!), some had no experience. So I decided I would run a Worlds Without Number game…I would run a fantasy game (outside of my typical sci-fi comfort zone) and I would run it milking absolutely every tool I could. I would be the laziest GM there was. Everything was to be completely randomised. Names, quests, locations, hooks, encounters, enemies, traps. I would merely act as a glue to fit it all together…Or to ditch it if needs be. I created a basic world, history, calendar and religion. These could fit on a small document and be vague enough for players to explore as they see fit. I created a starting encounter (prison break, a nice Elder Scrolls feel to it) and after that, the group took over. A few landmarks, cities and villages were scattered around. No work was done to them unless the players stated they would go there. So far, blood cults have been infiltrated, dungeons delved, they have been exiled from villages and they’re currently in the middle of taking down a gang. All created by what they wanted, and what was rolled. The most I have prepped for a game was 6 hours, before we even started (this was the world-building creation stated before). Since then, I have been 45 minutes to 1 hour prepping. I have never prepped for more than 1 session ahead. Maybe a little more prep with dungeon delving, as I’m getting used to making dungeons on DungeonCraft and using tools on Roll20, but prep is taking nowhere near as long as it once did. I’ve been running this for several months and it’s going great. I started to let go…
What has trigged this self-reflection? My players are saying how much they are enjoying it. They’re creating resources, lore, and memes. In fact, they are enjoying it as much as if I’d made everything by hand and had control in absolutely everything. The only difference is that I’m not breaking my back to see it happen. It’s been such an enlightening experience running a game this way. I know that there may have been other factors in all this and that our collective enjoyment can’t just be down to a single lightbulb moment, but I feel it’s worth sharing.
We live in world where there is an expectation that GMs have to reinvent the wheel and create everything by hand and establish these grand narratives, whilst also dealing with the insane workloads that come from that. People talk about a GM shortage sometimes, and I feel that this mindset, does have some bearing on the issue. I know many people might say that ‘online person doesn’t use the tools properly. Doesn’t have fun. Eventually uses tools. Has fun’ but I think there is a huge mindset shift that goes with this.
Similarly, there’s probably people reading this saying ‘Woah, get a load of this guy making the absolute worst choices when running a game’ and ‘I’ve always run games in this way, this isn’t revolutionary’. Well to me, it was. Moreover, I think there is an immense pressure out there to create and plan way too much. Sometimes learning is about making the mistakes and building from that.
So, work smart and not hard GMs out there. Avoid what I did…Or, actually, do what I did. Learn what you can do, self-reflect, make those mistakes, and learn to avoid in future.

Ain’t No Fun When The Rabbit Got The Gun
“Ay yo, Mo-Mo, maybe you should be careful what you wish for. Things is basically goin’ all right now but they can get worse for us real quick I think. We can prolly smooth this shit out. We should try and talk wit them, for starters at least. Shit.”
He just looked at me with something dark and dangerous swimming through the shallows behind his gray-green eyes.
Sure, it would have been easy to just go along with the rest’a them but my pops raised me to play chess, not checkers, from a young age and I learned a few things about thinking two or three steps ahead. I aint no dumb muthafucker. "Taking the long view", that’s what they call it. I never went to college and I don’t know my IQ score (I never even took the SAT) but I like to think I aint just some dumb nigga from down the block. I don’t know where you from but out here, where I stay, you best be at least a little bit smarter than these streets.
So when Big Mo said it was time to take out Nando and Nestor - N&N’s what everyone call them - and the rest of the crew all agreed, I was obligated to disagree. There was only 6 of us but I was still "The 10th Man", as they say, and I knew about the 10th Man Rule. (My pops taught me about that shit too.) I was Mo’s top lieutenant - we went to grade school together back at P.S. 157 in the Grove Hill section of the South Bronx - and we been together for a minute but things had gotten a little shaky between us just lately so I really didn’t want to speak out, but I had to.
“Ay yo, man. If you aksin’ me? I say we let em’ have that shit for now. We got like four more empty blocks going south that we can just stretch out into without bumpin’ up against no one and if we keep on putting out that good shit in the blue Comotosa bags these junkie muthafuckers are still gonna come to us, even if it’s a few extra blocks. Ay yo, I think you already know this, Papi. Let’s try to be smart about this shit for just a minute. Bullets is cheap but pay lawyers cost money, nigga. Big money for real.”
N&N sold coke and dope in our neighborhood of East Tremont way back before we did. Nestor’s dad was slinging out here before I was even born and his boy inherited the family business when pops got sent up to The Hill on an A-1 charge like, shit, at least 15 years back. I think that was his third. I was just a kid then but he still up there and I heard he killed a nigga and he aint comin’ back. Things was all good though until recently, when they started to push down onto the corners we been holdin’ down for years, them blocks between the Concourse and Jermone Ave just south of Tremont. Not even a courtesy convo. Those blocks always been ours but lately we’ve had beef, and now we got bodies.
When Berto got shot in the leg about a month back it set things off to start with but everyone was down with Tiny - that funny fat-ass muthafucker - and they was all heated up real good when he got smoked tryin’ to run off that corner in his baggy-ass pants. Tiny couldn’t run for shit and took three in the back. We just got home from the service with his family and all, everyone cryin’ and shit. Niggas was pissed off for real, out for blood. Six dudes, nine handguns and two cut-downs on the table, everyone ready to go out and buck.
“I done been smart for a long time, Primo. I think you know, else I wouldn’t be here now, right? But maybe this is a time for muscle tho’, not brains. What’choo think, man?” Mo raised his chin towards me. It was half a question and half a challenge. They all looked at me. I knew I was out on a real thin branch to begin with so I just backed the fuck off.
“Ay, obviously it aint my call. I’m just….tryin’ to give you sumthin’ else to think on, Mo-Mo, that’s all. Options, man. I’m wit you however it go, you already know this. Shit. Where I come from? Who my peoples?” I shrugged and lit a cigarette and then just looked down at the floor.
I knew he wasn’t gonna listen.
“All right, let’s mount up muthafuckers. We on the hunt and we aint comin’ back until we drop at least three of them bitches. We gonna start at that busy corner they got on 177th and roll on from there. I know where Nestor’s grandma live and that’s where he stay most of the time. Either there or his girl’s crib down Fordham. I know where she stay too. We gonna spill some blood. Straight up. Yo Willy-Boy, go pull the truck around and we’ll see you out front in like a minute.” He threw the keys to his Escalade to the youngest kid in the room. I had a real bad feeling about the whole thing. It was too quick. They would be waiting, ready.
We all piled into the truck and I took the passenger seat, snicked a round into the chamber of my pistol and clicked off the safety. Mo had one of the cut-down shotguns in his lap - a Benelli 12 gauge loaded with pumpkin balls - as he drove. He didn’t look at me. When we got down to 177th Street and circled the corner I was relieved to see there was almost no one out there. I just assumed the 5-0 came past and business would be back up and running in like ten or fifteen minutes. We started to circle the block.
“Yo, Mo-Mo, let me out up at the corner here. I need to grab a deck of smokes and something to drink. Y’all niggas want anything?” They were all tensed-up and no one wanted shit so I stepped out on the corner and told them I’d be right back, then I walked into the bodega.
I took my time. I stood in front of the cold case for a while and looked at my phone, even though I already knew what I wanted. Then I took a can of root beer up front and made some small talk with the counter man for a while, an old Dominican dude who had been running that place since I was just a kid. We was both Yankee fans. I bought a lottery ticket and then I bought a pack of Newports, opened it and lit one, and by the time I walked back out the store the Escalade was gone, as I knew it would be. This was a real narrow one-way street and there’s no way that Big Mo could just stay double-parked out there without blocking traffic for a minute or two. Like I said, my pops taught me to think a few moves ahead. Chess, not checkers.
I stood out there in front of the bodega for a minute, smoking my cigarette, and then I heard the pop…pop…pop of gunfire and the sound of a car crash, which is basically what I expected. Big Mo was always just a little too hot. A little too quick to get involved whenever shit was jumpin’ off.
I waited to see if the Escalade would come racing up the block towards me but when it didn’t I started to jog in that direction. I heard the police sirens right when I got close enough to see Mo’s Caddilac slammed up against a few parked cars with all the windows shot out and he was slumped over the wheel. The corner was empty by then. I turned around immediately and began walking back to my crib with my head down.
I laid low for a while, “going to ground” as they say, but I knew N&N’s hangouts better than Mo-Mo did. Shit, I knew the pizza place just off Fordham Ave where all them niggas like to eat. I just chilled at home for a minute and watched some movies on Netflix and waited til’ the time was right, about two weeks later.
“What up muthafucka, you aint get a slice for me? God damn, nigga! Who pay yo bills? You know I’m hungry like a Goddamn wolf, always. What’s up? I really gotta aks?” Nando hopped out of his Lexus with his phone in one hand and looked at his man Nestor with both palms raised in a gesture of insult and offense.
That’s when I came out of the alley behind the pizzeria with my hoodie tucked over my head and put down Nestor with three shots to his chest from my Springfield .45 from less than fifteen feet away. It’s a big gun and I knocked that muthafucker straight out his shoes, sent his pizza sailing into the gutter and the rest of them young‘uns just ran off towards the Concourse. Everyone but Nando. He was just too close, which is how I planned it, and he knew that runnin’ was pointless.
He tried to get all hard with me for a minute and I saw his eyebrows scrunchin’ up but as soon as he started talkin’ I just pistol-whipped that muthafucker in the mouth and knocked out a few of his teeth. He fell to the sidewalk and then pulled himself up against the wall.
“Sup’ Nando? Aint no fun when the rabbit got the gun, right?,” I said in a quiet, scratchy voice and then smiled and chuckled at him for a second or two while pointing the barrel of my pistol directly into the center of his face as he wiped away some of the blood running down his chin.
“Shit, I don’t think your boy Nestor’s gettin’ up over there. What’choo think, man? Looks like you fresh out of muscle.” I looked over at Nestor’s dead body lying half on the sidewalk and half in the street, his white NY Knicks jersey turned mostly red at that point and I smiled some more.
“Cuz yo, with y’all gone I think I’m taking over the rest of Tremont Ave, little man. We prolly could’a worked this shit out if you just came past to talk. But nah. Not you. You too big for talk, right? Too late for talk now though I think.”
I didn’t waste no time. I just looked around to make sure no one was witnessin’ up close and then I put two in his dome. I snatched up his pocket money, his rope chain, his rings and his Rolex (I mean, you gotta be stupid to just leave all that shit behind) but I left his Glock .40 on him and then I jogged off towards Fordham Ave with my head down and my hoodie up.
Yeah, Daddy. Fuck Nando. He got his. I paid some of the little shorties from around the way to go and shoot out them street lights the night before so I wasn’t trippin’ about no security cameras. It was dark and I ain't never heard nuthin’ about it afterwards. Nuthin’. I don’t think the police round here care about this shit really. Just one street nigga killin’ another. They prolly like it that way.
I wasn't worried. I had business to tend to anyways. I had new territory to run and I knew I might need to handle up for a minute; make sure no one got no problems with the new arrangements. It was all good though. I had peoples standing with me. I know how to muscle up, for real. Shit. People always need to get paid. It’s just a matter of money, like everything else. We can hold this down. Might be a few bodies but that’s just what they call “the cost of doing business.” Ain’t no thing.
And things was working out just fine, for a while. Only two bodies got dropped, neither of them on my team, when Spring turned to Summer and then it got real hot, real quick. Not the police, but the weather. It’s like that out here. All concrete, no trees.
I was out on East Tremont two blocks off the Concourse one day in late June, just tryin’ to stay cool in the shade and collecting some dollars and paying off some of my peoples when I seen this little kid coming down the block with a grape soda in one hand, minding his own business. I only noticed the little nigga because he looked at me for a second when he got closer. I didn’t really think shit about it. I run all these corners round here and the shorties all know whassup, so kids look at me all the time. Ain’t nothing unusual. They need work but I ain’t got enough to go round for every little nigga in the South Bronx. Shit.
I was just telling Red Light - we call him that cuz he ran a red light and hit an NYPD roller from the 48th a few years back and got his ass beat for real - that my boy Shiny would come past with a re-up package for him in about an hour or two, when all’a sudden this shorty drops his grape soda on the sidewalk and pulls a little deuce-deuce auto from his pants and before I know whassup I catch three in the gut and one skimmed the side of my neck. Little shorty motherfucker tried to put one in my head too but he was already running off at that point and he only took off the top of my left ear.
It didn’t matter. I coughed up some blood and I knew I wasn’t never gonna make it to the ER up at Misericordia. That’s the only Level-1 trauma unit round here and I seen enough niggas get dropped in these streets to know it’s your only chance when you catch a few. Shit. They take you to one of these other B-list hospitals round here they might as well just leave you where they found you.
I only ever done dope a few times back when I was just a kid but Red Light was leaning over me and aksin’ what to do, so I told him to just give me a couple of them blue bags. I didn’t have no works to shoot up with (I ain’t no dope fiend) and no time neither so I just dumped that shit out on a c-note and snorted it up. Then I told Red Light to give me two more. Shit, if I was going out slow I might as well try to kill the pain, right? I couldn’t get those next two bags down though. My throat was filling up with blood by then and I was choking on it.
I remember how everything just started to fade out around then. I seen Red Light take the bloody c-note from my hand along with the rest of the cash I spilled out onto the sidewalk. He started to hustle off down the block as the sirens got closer but then he ran back and grabbed my Patek Philippe wristwatch and my gold chain, that muthafucker. I was too weak to stop him or even to reach back for my Springfield.
I guess I forgot that Nando had a kid, or maybe I just didn’t think about it at all. I don’t know. I had other shit to worry about and I thought he was just a little nigga, and he was, but still big enough to pull a trigger though. It don’t take much.
When the EMTs came rushing up to me on the sidewalk they was aksin’ all sorts of questions but I remember the pretty white lady say, “What is your name?”
I spit out the blood in my mouth and my head was starting to feel real heavy. I just told her in a half-whisper, “Ain’t no fun when the rabbit got the gun…”
Then everything just went black.
THE END

2024.06.09 08:10 sameed_a benefits of leadership in stress management?

As I sat by the fireplace, I couldn't help but reflect on this past year. At work, I found myself catapulted to a leadership position in a high-stress environment. To say that I was anxious would be the understatement of the century.
Suddenly, all the decisions fell squarely on my shoulders. The office politics seemed amplified, deadlines loomed like vulturous shadows, and each team member's stress felt like my own. It was a slew of chaos, and my sanity seemed the prey.
Then, it struck me. Stress management! Leadership wasn't just about making decisions or handling the team; it was equally about managing stress, not just mine but also that of my team.
I started to approach challenges with a new lens, focusing on the problem's root cause instead of getting overwhelmed by the magnitude of the issue at hand. Instead of shouldering every responsibility, I began to delegate tasks, ensuring everyone had a fair share and no one was overburdened.
I became more available, not just as a boss but as a sounding board. I involved the team in decision-making process, giving them a sense of inclusion and cutting the stress that came from feeling out of control. My office door was always open, not just metaphorically, and that created a sense of security among my team members.
In essence, the high-stress environment didn't change; I changed how I managed it. And the results were astounding! The team became more efficient; their stress levels reduced, and we started meeting deadlines with room to spare.
It wasn’t easy but worth it. This was my journey of combating stress through leadership. It taught me that good leadership is as much about handling stress as it is about any other element.
P.S: I probably sounded like I was narrating a superhero origin story, but I promise this isn't a Marvel movie! It's just a simple demonstration of how the mental model of "First Principles Thinking" can revolutionize your approach towards stress management. You can be your own superhero in stress management, and your cape is your leadership skills! (Minus the dramatic wind effect, of course.)

2024.06.09 07:59 Captftm89 Other games whereby you are 'supposed' to die over & over and it's written into the narrative

First off, apologies as I'm sure there are dozens of examples, but I'm not much of a gamer and only knew about Returnal from browsing the PS Plus catalogue.
I know all about rogue-like & rogue-lite games, but many that I've come across at least, the story narrative around why you're dying over & over is weak - I.e. we as a gamer understand that our character's death is inevitable, but the character itself doesn't, or at least it's not really detailed what they're experiencing from their point of view.
I kinda like the feeling when I play Returnal that when I die, it's ok. I haven't failed as a gamer, I haven't failed Selene as we're going to go again in 30 seconds time and eventually get through this together.
P.s. I've played Outer Wilds, so that's one easy answer out of the way lol

Starting a small chicken coop. Is this a good start?
Hi, please excuse my ignorance as I just started getting into this and I’m trying to learn. I’ve been wanting to start a small chicken coop in my backyard and I just had a couple questions. I live in the suburbs but my hoa allows them. Is this suitable for a starter coop? I’ve heard a lot about diy projects but I’m trying to keep this somewhat easy but I will do it if I need to. I was thinking of just getting 2, mostly for eggs but would also love some companionship. If you have any specific types that are maybe quieter or friendly. Would you recommend i get more? I know I need to do a lot more research before pulling the trigger but any beginner advice would be greatly appreciated. I spend most of my time at home and working in the garden and would love another hobby because I’ve always loved chickens. Please let me know or help me out :)

2024.06.09 06:54 LimeKittyGacha Opinions on my take on a psychic magic system?

Context: This is an urban fantasy setting where the fantasy elements are completely normal in-setting and where the magic elements integrate with the mundane elements, and there's fluff and suspense in equal parts, leaning towards an idealistic tone (but that's not really relevant to this post). Fighting in this universe is flashy anime style fighting, and all of the main characters have at least one power. Innate powers are common in-story, but this specific kind of innate power isn't, and it's pretty poorly understood in-universe. This universe functions under soft worldbuilding, meaning that the answer to any given question is usually "whatever makes the most sense", "whatever would make for a better story" or "whatever I think is cool". Thus, most magic systems are soft-ish -it's not so soft that magic can do anything, and there's definitely guidelines for how it should work, but true hard limits are rare, and balance/narrative function are prioritized over the actual mechanics. My intent with creating this magic system was to create a balanced magic system with specific flavoring, mechanics and soft limits while leaving ample room for internal variation and customization, so I could balance a character who seemed overpowered and define how another character's powers worked. (And potentially get interesting lore ideas in the process.)
HOW IT WORKS
POWERS
CASTING
I know this is a loose set of guidelines and like 80% of this magic system is internal consistency and flavor text, but this is supposed to be a general magic system meant to be customized between characters. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out, but feedback is appreciated -mostly on whether this seems to be balanced for a soft magic system.

2024.06.09 06:11 Alastor_neb Strange Man

Hi lets read! How are you doing! Im a long time listener of your channel. Ive always thought it would be awesome to have a story of mine narrated on hear but ive really had no reason to post her until now. Im sorry about my writing skills, im really not the best,
So, the other day i was looking for a job on craigslist. ( I know ima super big idiot for trying to do this after all this crazy stuff that went down there, but i was desperate.) i had been lookign for a job for quite a long time and after nearly getting evicted i decided to try craigslist. I thought that i was smart enough to not fall for some creeps ad but i was so wrong.
Im scrolling through craigslist one night when i saw a cleaning job. It paid someethign insane like 50 dollars an hour. I really didnt understand why they were paying so much for someone to clean but i mean money is money. I reply to the add asking if the job is still open. When i got a reply almost instantly. “Hey, the job is still open if you would like to take it” i wrote back “Great! when can i come?” His reply was the strangest thing. “ you can come right now.” Me being stupid as heck said ”Why not?” I thought that i would just you knwo check it out. If the area or the dude was sketchy or put up red flags or something i would just drive home. It was only around 630 pm.
So i make the 15 minute drive over to the house and the area and building were pretty nice. I pulled up and Dmed the ad dude. “Hey, im here, which building am i going to.” He responded a few moments later with the apartment number. So i walk up to the apartment and i was met by a man. Maybe in his late thirties, and says: “howdy there! Why dont you come on in.” I look over his shoulder which was easy because i am like 6’ 2” and he looked to be around 5’ 10”. I see a normal looking apartment. No blood smeared on the wall nothign out of the ordinary. At this point nothings putting up red flags, and plus i have a handgun on me so i walk in.
he then shows me to what i think was a bathroom. And what i saw in there almost made me vomit. All over the walls and floors and filling the bathtub was… Human feces. I gag and turn around. I ask “What the F is this” he replies to me with “Just some plumbing issues.“ I looked at him like “Plumbing issues? are you joking me?” What he says next really creeps me out though. “Im pretty sure it spirits in that bathroom. Evil ones. Tried fending them off with an inflated dog head but it accidently exploded.” He then laughs like its the normalist thing in the world to inflate a dogs head was the normalist thing in the world. Thats when i knew i needed to get the f out of there. I then told him “Ok! Well let em go get some of my cleaning supplies out of my car!” He nods his head and gestured to the door. As soon as i was out the door I booked it out of there.
Honestly, i dont know what was going on with that man but it had to been some mental disorder. So to that man, i hope you got some help.

As a first-time gun owner, I was in the market for a small and affordable security cabinet. I came across the American Furniture Classics 5 Gun Starter Metal Security Cabinet and decided to give it a try. I must say, this cabinet has exceeded my expectations in terms of its 3-point locking system, which keeps my firearms safe and secure. The cabinet is made from high-quality black powder-coated paint, making it both attractive and durable.
One of the standout features of this cabinet is its soft foam barrel rest and carpeted floor, which protects my long guns from scratches and damage. It's also fully assembled right out of the box, so I didn't have to worry about any confusing instructions nor spend hours putting it together. Additionally, it includes four expansion bolts to secure it to the floor, providing even more peace of mind.
However, there are a few cons to consider. Some users have reported issues with the cabinet's build quality, stating that the metal seems thin and may not withstand a determined break-in attempt. Additionally, the cabinet's lock mechanism has been described as "flimsy" by some, leaving me slightly concerned about the overall security it provides.
In conclusion, the American Furniture Classics 5 Gun Starter Metal Security Cabinet has become an essential part of my home, providing a secure and affordable storage solution for my long guns. While it may not be the most robust option on the market, it provides more than enough security for everyday use.

The Fatboy Extreme Gun Safe has been an essential part of my daily life for securing my firearms. I was initially impressed by its impressive 60-gun capacity and the flexibility it offers in terms of organization.
The 110-minute fire protection is a game-changer, giving me peace of mind knowing my valuable possessions are safe. However, the installation process was a bit intimidating, but the detailed instructions provided made it manageable.
One downside I noticed is the size of the safe; it took up more space than I initially anticipated. Overall, I highly recommend the Fatboy Extreme Gun Safe to anyone seeking a secure and spacious storage solution.

🔗High-Security Fireproof Gun Safe with 2-Story Impact Rating

https://preview.redd.it/m7iy0lsaxg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ae96b99e21c9dcd1863924de9b996f435985582
The Mesa Safe MBF5922C-P has been a game-changer in securing my most valuable possessions. Its 2-story impact rating and factory testing provide peace of mind knowing that it can withstand any intrusion attempt. The U. L. Listed Group 2 Combination Lock adds another layer of security, providing ease of access but also ensuring that my belongings remain safe. I particularly appreciated the four pre-drilled anchor holes and the included anchor kit, which ensures proper installation and protection against tipping. The sturdy solid steel construction is a testament to the safe's durability and reliability.
While the safe is well made and visually appealing, it was the ease of use that made the experience exceptional. With a perfectly functioning combination lock and carefully thought-out interior features, like anchors and electric outlets, it's clear the Mesa Safe was designed with the user in mind. The delivery was smooth and hassle-free, making the entire process a delightful experience. If you're in the market for a reliable and aesthetically pleasing fireproof gun safe, the Mesa Safe MBF5922C-P should be at the top of your list.

I recently purchased the Mesa MGL24E 30 Minute Fire Gun Safe and have been impressed with its durability and security. This all-steel safe has a spacious interior that can accommodate up to 24 rifles, perfect for gun enthusiasts who love to collect or have multiple firearms.
One feature that stood out to me was its 30-minute fire rating, which ensures that my valuables are protected during a fire emergency. The fully upholstered interior with adjustable shelving allows for organized storage, and it's designed to perfectly fit my rifles, handguns, and shotguns.
The safe's electronic lock is sleek and stylish, with a black finish and a drill-resistant hardplate for added security. However, it's crucial to note that this safe weighs approximately 500 pounds, and I had to use a dolly to move it into my space. It's recommended to be mindful of this weight when considering the placement of the safe.
Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this fireproof gun safe to anyone looking for reliable protection for their valuables. The Mesa MGL24E combines the security features of a burglar safe with the peace of mind of a fire safe, making it the ideal choice for gun enthusiasts or those seeking to protect their valuables in case of an emergency.

🔗Mesa MBF7236C Extra Large Fireproof Gun Safe

Over the past few weeks, I've been using the Mesa MBF7236C Gun Safe to protect my firearms, and I have to say, it's been a trusty companion. The exterior dimensions of this Extra Large capacity safe are 36 inches wide, 71 inches high, and 24 inches deep, providing enough space for 42 firearms securely stored inside.
One of the best features of this fireproof gun safe is its ability to withstand fire for up to an hour at 1,700 degrees Fahrenheit. Thanks to its combination lock, I know that my valuables are securely protected from theft. However, I noticed that the shelves are a bit flimsy and cannot support much weight.
The installation process was straightforward, as it comes pre-assembled and can be placed freestanding. The safe's heavy-duty construction makes it difficult to move, which is a good thing as it provides additional security. Overall, the Mesa MBF7236C Gun Safe is a reliable choice for a gun safe that offers peace of mind and protection for my firearms.

A high-quality fireproof gun safe bench should be made of heavy-duty materials, such as 14-gauge steel or higher. The safe should also have a robust locking mechanism to prevent forced entry. Look for a unit with a UL certification, ensuring it meets strict fire resistance standards.

Fire Protection Rating

Fire resistance ratings indicate how long a safe can withstand fire temperatures before its contents are compromised. A higher rating means better protection. Aim for a fireproof gun safe bench with a minimum rating of 1 hour, but consider higher ratings for increased protection.

Hinge and Latch Design

The hinge and latch should be well-constructed and made from corrosion-resistant materials. Check if the hinge is pinned instead of welded, as this improves the lifespan of the safe. A reliable latch should be easy to use and secure.

Portability and Weight

Consider the weight and portability of the fireproof gun safe bench, especially if you need to move it frequently. Some units have integrated wheels, while others may require separate accessories for easy relocation.

Additional Features

Additional features can enhance the functionality and security of a fireproof gun safe bench. Look for units with security bolts, anti-pry bars, or digital locks to further protect your valuables. Some models also offer built-in fire suppression systems to extinguish fires before they damage your firearms and other items.

Pricing and Warranty

When selecting a fireproof gun safe bench, consider your budget and the warranty provided by the manufacturer. High-quality units may come with a higher price tag but offer better security and durability in the long run. A reputable warranty can provide peace of mind and ensure the safe's performance for years to come.

🔗Fireside Ember Ground Mat: Food-grade Silicon Protection for Fire Pits and Grills

https://preview.redd.it/39iwaiolug5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=66adb2aaab78aa781faaece9d6681386bd49b211
Last weekend, I ventured into the wild with a group of friends and our trusty camping gear. Among the essentials we packed was the Fireside Ground Ember Mat. After a long day of hiking, we set up our fire pit, only to find that our grassy campsite was covered in embers. With the help of the Fireside Ember Mat, however, we had nothing to fear.
The mat's food-grade silicon coating helped us save a few dropped hotdogs, and it was a breeze to clean up. We quickly noticed that the reflective edging added an extra level of safety as night fell, ensuring we could see the mat in the darkness.
However, the mat isn't perfect. While it's compatible with a variety of fire pits, including charcoal, electric, and gas grills, it's not ideal for use on grass. We encountered a couple of incidents where embers escaped the fire pit and burned the grass beneath. But overall, the Fireside Ground Ember Mat was a reliable addition to our camping arsenal, and we've since recommended it to friends.
In terms of its sturdy build and durability, users have praised the mat's heat resistance and its ability to withstand constant exposure to fire. The mat's versatility and lightweight design also add to its appeal.
From my experience, the Fireside Ground Ember Mat is a worthwhile investment for anyone who wants to ensure their camping trips remain safe and free from mishaps. It's easy to use, clean, and adds an extra layer of protection around your fire pit. With its helpful features and overall effectiveness, it's a must-have for any outdoor enthusiast.

🔗Fire-Resistant Grill Mat for Deck Protection

Imagine a sunny day, and the smell of barbecue wafting through the air. You're enjoying a delicious meal with your family and friends, but your worry about the mess that comes after is unavoidable. Protebox understands that hassle, which is why they created their extra-large 60 x 40-inch Under Grill Mats.
My experience with Protebox felt like a breath of fresh air. As someone who loves hosting get-togethers, I was always concerned about the mess left behind after grilling. Protebox's mat solved that problem with ease. It collects more splatter and residue than any other grill mats I've used, keeping my deck and lawn clean and stain-free. Plus, the material it's made of feels tough and durable. Despite being exposed to the elements, it's easy to clean, reusable, and can even fold up for storage.
The mats are coated with fireproof fiberglass and silicone, allowing it to endure heat up to 2000°F without burning. In my grilling tests, it held up against even the hottest temperatures without showing any signs of wear or tear. To make cleaning a breeze, the surface doesn't absorb stains and is effortlessly wiped clean.
In addition to grilling, Protebox's Under Grill Mat is versatile and compatible with fire pits and fireplaces as well. One important note to consider, especially if you're planning on using it under fire pits - keep a 10-inch distance between the pit and the mat to prevent any mishaps.
As a user, I can confidently say Protebox Grill Mats are the ultimate solution for anyone seeking a mess-free grilling experience.

🔗Large, Waterproof, Easy-to-Clean Grill Mat for Outdoors

These under grill mats by UBeesize have been a game-changer for me when it comes to outdoor cooking. Made with high-quality fiberglass, they effectively protect my floor from grease, gas, or any other charred spillages. The large size of these mats, measuring 48" x 65", ensures that even my deck or floor – whether made of wood or anything else – stays safe from oil, sauces, charcoal, and high temperatures. Plus, the fact that they're waterproof means no more stressing about grease or liquid soaking through.
When I'm done using the mat, it's a breeze to clean thanks to its easy-to-wash design. Simply throw it in the washing machine and watch as all the mess comes off effortlessly. It even comes with the added convenience of being foldable – perfect for storing and transporting during camping trips or outdoor activities. Though they may have some fold marks upon arrival, they disappear within a few days, proving to be a small price to pay for such a useful tool.

🔗Multi-Layered Fire Pit Mat for Protection and Insulation

I have recently used Texfire's fireproof mat to protect our wooden flooring from the sparks, embers, and ashes that our fireplace produces. The carpet is a perfect blend of style and functionality, featuring a beautiful plush texture on one side and a flame-retardant silicone coating on the other. I found the carpet to be highly effective in retaining the heat and fire materials, ensuring our floor remained safe and protected.
However, I did notice a small downside - the carpet's dimensions would have been more convenient if they were slightly larger, covering a larger area of our fireplace. Despite this minor issue, I am still very pleased with the product and the level of protection it provides to our floors. The multilayer design offers excellent thermal insulation, making it suitable for various types of flooring, including wood, tiles, and parquet.
Overall, Texfire's fireproof mat is an excellent investment for anyone who wants to enjoy the warmth and comfort of a fireplace without worrying about the potential damage it might cause to their floors.

🔗Outdoor Fireproof Grill Mat for Decks and Patios

I've been using this Brinman Fire Grill Mat for a while now and it's been an absolute game-changer for my outdoor grilling experience. Made of heat-resistant fiberglass fabric, it really lives up to its claim of withstanding high temperatures, keeping my deck and patio safe from hot embers and sparks.
One of the best things about this mat? It's easy to clean! The waterproof, oil-proof design keeps spills and splatters non-absorbing, making cleanup a breeze—just use mild soap and water or a garden hose. Even better, the mat foldable for convenient storage and transportation, which is a great bonus.
However, one thing to consider is the size, which is a bit larger than I initially expected – 65 x 40 inches, to be precise. This could be a bit too big for some outdoor grills, so I recommend measuring yours before placing your order.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this mat to anyone looking for a reliable, heat-resistant, and easy-to-clean solution for their outdoor grilling.

🔗Fireproof and Waterproof Under Grill Mat

Recently, I got my hands on this nifty large under grill mat during a barbecue spree with friends. It was larger than your average 60"x42" mat, allowing us to protect a bigger area of the floor. The fiberglass construction made for an incombustible mat that kept our patio, lawns, and decks safe from harmful contaminants. Plus, the silicone coating was waterproof, oil-proof, and pressure resistant - an all-in-one solution for those clumsy accidents.
Once the barbecue was over, the smooth, low-adhesion surface made cleaning oil stains a breeze with warm water and dish soap. Its foldable design made storage a breeze and carried it easily on vacations. Overall, it was a practical, eco-friendly, and hassle-free solution to outdoor grilling. However, I had to wait for a month to receive it and the country of origin was China. Nevertheless, the benefits outweighed the potential inconvenience.

As a foodie and outdoor enthusiast, I've come across several grill mats over the years, but I must say the BAIPOK Large Under Grill Mat stands out for its double-sided fireproof and oil-proof features. The quality of this mat is top-notch and it's sturdy enough to withstand high temperatures and rough handling.
One of the most impressive features is its water and oil resistance, which not only protects my floor but also makes cleanup a breeze. With its unique foldable design, storage has never been easier. Moreover, it suits a wide variety of indoor and outdoor scenarios, making it a versatile purchase.
But, like any product, it isn't perfect. I had to pay close attention to the precautions during use as I've seen a few mishaps when users don't follow proper guidelines. Yet, the pros far outweigh the cons, making it a worthy investment for anyone who enjoys grilling, barbecuing, or simply spending time around a fire pit with friends and family.

I recently tried out the Svepndic fireplace hearth mat, and let me tell you, it's a game-changer for anyone looking to protect their floors and patios from those pesky embers. The first thing I noticed was just how easy it was to install - no messy assembly required!
The mat itself is made of a double-layer fiberglass material that provides excellent fire and thermal insulation. But don't worry, it won't melt away in front of your eyes. It's been designed to slowly isolate or even snuff out small fires, ensuring the safety of your family.
One of the best features of this mat is its non-slip silicone cloth on the front and back. This clever design prevents the mat from shifting around on your floor, which could be a potential hazard if you're not careful. And when it comes to cleaning, this rustic mat is a dream. It effectively protects your floors from those infamous sparks and embers, making it an essential piece of gear for any busy home or camping enthusiast. Its large size ensures it covers more ground than you'd think, making it ideal for bigger spaces.
Just a couple of practical tips - make sure to attend to fireplaces without fire screens, and remember to manually measure your space before installation. Also, keep an eye on the colors, as slight differences due to different screens are possible.
Overall, this Svepndic fireplace hearth mat is a worthy addition to any fire-prone home or outdoor area. It's easy to use, sturdy, and most importantly, it keeps your floors safe from the perils of fire. Highly recommended!

After spending countless weekends at home grilling and enjoying outdoor barbecue parties, I found myself in desperate need of a protective solution for my patio's surfaces. I stumbled upon this fire pit mat—the perfect heat and grease-resistant companion for those warm, summer evenings.
The fireproof mat, made of glass fiber-coated aluminum foil, has proven to be an invaluable addition to my outdoor cooking setup. Its ability to withstand a high temperature of up to 95% radiant heat is impressive, to say the least. Not only did it safeguard my deck, but it also protected my guests from accidental spills and splatters.
I must admit, I was initially skeptical about the mat's lightweight construction, but it surprised me by being quite portable and easy to store when not in use. Its foldability adds to its convenience, making it a perfect accessory for outdoor gatherings.
One thing I noticed, though, was its shape. It was designed with a modern, round appearance, which means it might not fit under square or rectangular fire pits. This isn't a major drawback, but it's something to consider if you have a non-round setup.
The mat also does a great job of preventing heat damage and grease spills on grass and patios, creating a safe fireproof barrier for various surfaces. However, I'd advise keeping a decent distance (at least 4 inches) between it and the cooker to ensure maximum insulation and prolong its life.
Overall, this fire pit mat has become an essential part of my outdoor cooking experience. It protects my patio while adding a touch of sophistication and style to my gatherings. I highly recommend this heat-resistant and splash-guard mat to anyone in search of a reliable, versatile, and stylish solution to safeguard their surfaces from the harsh realities of grilling.

Made of sturdy heat-resistant materials, it prevented the occasional flying embers from causing any potential harm. One of the critical factors when choosing a fire pit mat is the size and shape. Fire pits come in various sizes, which can range from small tabletop styles to large commercial pits. Consider the space available in your outdoor area and the specific purpose for the fire pit. If only entertaining close friends and family, a smaller fire pit might suffice.
Additionally, fire pit mats are available in different shapes, such as round, square, and rectangular. Pick a shape that best matches the design of your fire pit and the area where it will be placed.

Materials

When selecting a fire pit mat, you'll want to pay close attention to the materials used in its construction. Most fire pit mats are made of a combination of materials to withstand high temperatures and provide durability over time.
  • Fire-resistant materials: Some common materials used in fire pit mats include ceramic fibers, fire-resistant clay, and non-toxic, heat-resistant fabrics. These materials help prevent combustion and damage from the intense heat generated by the fire pit.
  • Insulation materials: Many fire pit mats come with layers of insulation made of materials like mineral fibers or aluminum foil. These materials help to reflect and absorb heat, keeping the mat cool and comfortable to the touch.
  • Stainless steel or other durable materials: Look for fire pit mats with sturdy frames made of material like stainless steel. These materials provide durability and can withstand the wear and tear of being outdoors.

Installation and Maintenance

Installing a fire pit mat is a relatively straightforward process. Place the mat on the ground surrounding the fire pit, ensuring it covers the entire area thoroughly. Make sure there are no gaps or overhangs that could cause combustion or damage to the mat.
Regular maintenance is also essential to ensure the longevity of your fire pit mat. Clean the mat after each use by removing any debris, ashes, or soot. Store it properly in a dry place when not in use and avoid placing it in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.

A warranty can provide peace of mind, especially when investing in a fire pit mat. Look for a warranty that covers damages caused by fire, heat, and other environmental factors.

Brand Reputation

Brand reputation plays a crucial role in determining the quality and durability of a fire pit mat. Research the brand to find out if they are known for producing high-quality products and have positive customer reviews. A reputable brand will typically offer exceptional customer service and stand by their products.
Shopping with a reputable brand can alleviate any concerns you might have about the product's performance and help ensure your satisfaction with the purchase.
Choosing the right fire pit mat is about finding a product that meets your specific needs. Consider factors such as size, shape, materials, installation, maintenance, price, warranty, and brand reputation when making your decision. By doing so, you'll be able to enjoy a safe and comfortable outdoor experience while using your fire pit.

2024.06.09 05:15 Texadilla Bag or discharge?

Zone 9b (Houston) St Augustine lawn
I recently upgraded from a starter set craftsman to a toro timemaster 30in. I normally would bag with the craftsman but it obviously wouldn’t catch all the clippings and it was easy to dump into a trash bag.
The toro gets every single mown grass blade into its bag. The problem is it’s a nightmare getting all the grass out the bag into a trash bag because it’s stuffed full. And I’d empty it 3-4 times between both my front and backyard.
Today I decided I was going to discharge instead of bag. I was wondering how this might harm the rest of the lawn with excess clippings sitting on top of the lawn and maybe getting watered in, not allowing water to get to the gumbo soil.
Thoughts and opinions appreciated please!

‘WE CANNOT SIMPLY GO, GO, GO.’ WHAT IS ‘GIRL MOSSING,’ THE WELLNESS TREND THAT REJECTS HUSTLE CULTURE?

On TikTok and Instagram, people are “girl mossing”: lying on a forest floor, staring up at a leafy canopy or caressing moss. The United States National Forest Foundation even borrowed the term to kick off its 2024 Instagram account. Girl mossing recognizes a need to step away from the pressures of modern, urban life, promoting spending time in nature as a restorative practice. The fast pace and pressure of neoliberal capitalism take an enormous toll on well-being: not just personal, but social and planetary.

FIVE WAYS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE CAN IMPROVE YOUR DATING LIFE

Artificial intelligence is going to transform how we date. The question is: will it be for better or worse? It’s already causing some real problems, especially related to “romance scams” and other fraud. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Used in the right way, AI can actually make dating better. It can help write profiles and find matches, provide dating advice and coaching and, if all else fails, become a date companion. I have spent the last few years studying the impact of technology, and especially AI, on our

2024.06.09 04:47 BGodInspired How Can Paul's Message at the Areopagus Transform Our Views on Faith and Culture Today?

https://bgodinspired.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/1717900635.png

Uncovering the Truth: Paul’s Speech at the Areopagus

Have you ever visited a new place, feeling a mix of excitement and uncertainty, only to discover that it holds a profound message waiting for you? Imagine how the apostle Paul felt when he stood on the revered and historical grounds of the Areopagus in Athens, a place filled with curious minds and diverse beliefs. Let’s delve into the significance of Paul’s speech and uncover the powerful truths embedded within this biblical narrative.

The Setting: Athens and the Areopagus

Athens, the heart of ancient Greek philosophy and culture, was bustling with thinkers and seekers. The Areopagus, a prominent hill, served as both a council meeting place and a court. Picture a scene of eager Athenians, gathered to hear and debate new ideas. Into this intellectual hub steps Paul, with a message that will forever alter the course of Christian evangelism.
In Acts 17:16, we read: “While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols.” This concern set the stage for his profound address.

Paul’s Connection Strategy

Paul masterfully begins by connecting with his audience. He acknowledges their religiosity, which opens a channel of communication built on respect rather than condemnation.
He states in Acts 17:22-23, “Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.”
Reflect: How can you find common ground with others when discussing faith or life principles?

The Proclamation of the One True God

Paul transitions from connecting to proclaiming the truth. He describes the nature and sovereignty of the Christian God, contrasting Him against the many idols that cluttered Athens. Paul emphasizes God’s creation, omnipresence, and His desire for a relationship with humanity.
In Acts 17:24-25, Paul declares, “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.”
Paul’s message highlights the divine and accessible nature of God—a departure from the distant deities of Greek mythology.

A Personal Invitation

Paul concludes with a call to repentance, inviting the Athenians to recognize this true God and turn from their ways. He points to the resurrection of Jesus as the cornerstone of his message and evidence of God’s judgment and grace.
Acts 17:30-31 summarizes this plea: “In the past, God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”
Reflect: How does your understanding of God shape your life choices and directions?

Engage and Share Your Thoughts

Paul’s speech at the Areopagus is more than a historical event; it is a living testament of our mission to share God’s truth with wisdom and compassion. His approach—respecting beliefs, proclaiming truth, and inviting change—offers a timeless method for us all.
Has there been a time you’ve had to share your faith or beliefs in a new or challenging environment? How did you connect with your audience, and what impact did it have?

Conclusion and Call to Action

Paul’s Areopagus speech invites us to reflect on our own journeys and the ways we connect with others about our faith. As we consider his wisdom and courage, let’s strive to be thoughtful and respectful messengers of truth in our own lives.
We’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences. Share in the comments how this story speaks to you or any insights you’ve gained. Also, don’t forget to share this article with friends who might find inspiration in Paul’s story just as you have.

Embracing Biblical Wisdom

Paul’s balance of intellect and empathy in sharing the Gospel provides a rich blueprint for our own lives. By embracing these biblical insights, we can foster meaningful connections and inspire curiosity about the profound truths we hold dear.
Continue exploring these remarkable narratives and applying their lessons, making the journey of faith both enlightening and deeply personal.

Boys: Justin, Ripper, Topher
Girls: Anne Maria, Jasmine, MK
Episode 19: The Princess Pride
"Last time, on Total Drama Action! Just when the cast thought they were safe, I swung in to surprise – I mean, antagonize them."
"The cast were forced to use their creative sides while showing off their back sides. As they made superhero costumes out of spandex. And...some other junk. Nice tights!"
"Of course, they were foiled by the diabolical Pythonicus, evil alter-ego of the villainous Chef!"
"In a fight against evil, the cast proved they could be heroes. And also, loooseerrss!"
"In the end, the most diabolical of them all was MK, who twisted things in order to get Chase eliminated."
The recap footage ended, and the scene flashed to the control tent where Chris was waiting with a smile. "Will the Gaffer alliance recover from Chase being gone? Will Anne Maria and Topher keep going out?" he pressed a button on the keyboard to his side, causing a picture of the couple to appear on one of the screens behind him.
"Maybe you'll find out right now?" he shrugged impishly as the scene changed again and he walked towards the cast trailers. "Maybe you won't? On another, totally dramatic episode of," he stopped in his tracks and the camera zoomed out with each further word, "Total! Drama! Action!"
(Theme Song)
The episode began with, of all things, a close-up of some brown and beany mush plopping onto a plate. The camera panned up to reveal its source as burrito beans in the hands of Jasmine being put together. Shots of Ripper, MK, and Justin also showed them making burritos as well.
The camera zoomed out to show the four constructing burritos on the table next to the tent's entrance while Topher and Anne Maria were at the other table, the former overseeing the quartet as he stood on the table and the latter simply applying lipstick to her lips.
“Ten more seconds, guys! The biggest burrito wins!” Topher declared and looked at Anne Maria. “Do you think I'd make a good reality show host?”
Anne Maria put her lipstick away. “Can you excuse me? I'm working on my facial features,” she said.
“But you already worked on yourself in the morning,” Topher said.
“You'd do the same if your hair was lookin’ messy,” Anne Maria retorted.
“Touché,” Topher pulled back.
“And time is up, folks!” MK informed everybody with her watch.
"Ripper, what do you got?” Topher asked the burly boy.
“Allow me to demonstrate my beefcake burrito!” Ripper held up his plate - his burrito has no wrapping and simply consisted of beef shaped into a cake. “I actually managed to make a cake out of beef.”
“How interesting,” Topher observed after getting off the table. “Jasmine, how about you?”
“These are my twin burritos!” Jasmine said with a plate that had two burritos tied together with an elastic rubber band.
“You actually wrapped your burritos?” Topher inspected heavily.
“Of course I did,” Jasmine nodded. “Twins are sometimes inseparable, and it's a good thing that these burritos aren't Siamese, otherwise they would have tried to eat one another.”
Topher laughed at her quip. “Points for that quip,” he said and made his way over to MK. “MK, how did you manage to make your burrito?”
“I am proud to present the MK Whopper!” MK took her burrito out from under the table and presented it - the burrito was shaped to look like MK with the beans as the body, wrap pieces as the hat and clothes, a sliced piece of tomato as the mouth, and pieces of beef as the eyes.
“The burrito is self-serving, but quality effort regardless,” Jasmine commented.
“Quality? Check out the guns on these beans,” Justin objected as his leitmotif played and he whipped out his burrito shaped to look like a flexing bicep. He even flexed his own bicep and moved his eyebrow in order to impress the contestants, but they were unfazed. “Nothing. You feel nothing?”
“Nope,” Jasmine shook her head.
“I was never once into you, Justin,” MK added as well.
“Man, this scratched schnoz has destroyed my looks and my life!” Justin moped. “Why?”
“MK, your self-art and ego is unsurprising, but you did make the biggest and best burrito, so you win,” Topher told her.
“This isn't right,” Justin protested and was now out of his seat. “I demand a second neutral opinion.”
“I'm no doctor or anything, but we all have reality-show-itis, and it's making us turn things into a challenge,” Anne Maria spoke up.
“I'm not sure if that's a thing, but I can't help myself when this day is bland and boring,” Topher said.
Confessional: Justin
“When my good looks went, so did my winning edge,” Justin told the viewers. “But some people are still managing to kick butt, and they're not nearly as good looking as I am!” He paused to think about what he said. “Okay, as I was.”
Confessional Ends
Justin was now sitting next to Anne Maria. “You know, you're the only one taking the game seriously. I just wish I knew how you did it all. It's so inspirational.”
“I'm just playing the game the best I know how,” Anne Maria said. “And it's not by sabotage like Scott did to me.”
“Scott also sabotaged my chances in the game as well,” Justin continued. “Hey, we have something in common.”
“Yeah we do, now go away,” Anne Maria ordered. “I don't know if they'll be a challenge, and I'd like to relax in peace.”
A few off-camera footsteps gave everyone pause, and they looked towards the room's entrance as the shot moved to a side-view of the room. Chef Hatchet had entered wearing a faded purple Medieval-styled costume, complete with a simple horn bearing a flag marked with a simple black-and-purple shield.
He blew a few awkward notes, then the camera moved in for a close-up as he made an announcement. "Hear ye, and rise! For Sir Chris!"
"Sir?!" Jasmine repeated with disbelief. "This Bruce's ego is fussing me to heaps!"
The shot moved back out to show Chris McLean riding atop the same decrepit-looking horse that had been used for a much earlier episode. He was wearing a knight's helmet and holding what looked to be a boot made of glass, and dismounted once Chef laid out a small rug for him to stand on.
"Hold on," Topher said slowly. "Glass slipper. Medieval stuff. This must be a Fairy Tale theme!"
"Topher," Chris said with stern annoyance, "if you ever steal my intro again, I'll have to personally boot you off the show."
"Hey, you can't do that!" Topher protested. "You brought me onto this show!"
"This boot," Chris said happily, "will determine the Princess for today's Fairy Tale movie challenge! The rest of you," he added as the camera panned across the tent from right to left, "compete for the honor of rescuing the fair Princess."
Anne Maria immediately raised her hand eagerly. "I wanna be the Princess!"
"I said the fair Princess," Chris repeated. "And what we think is fair is that the candidates be the ladies who haven't had a win since the merge: MK," he looked at the unamused techno, "and Jasmine." The focus moved to the Outback girl, who merely raised an eyebrow.
Confessional: Jasmine
"Okay, I am not Princess material," Jasmine said in the make-up confessional. "Not only am I too tall to fit the role, but I'm not really interested in fairy tales."
Confessional Ends
A short drumroll preceded an even shorter chanted note as MK and Jasmine approached the end of the table closest to the tent entrance.
"Yeah, there's no way that I'm gonna be some Princess, McLean!" MK barked at the host who was standing nearby with the glass boot still in his hand. "And don't even try to jam that boot on my foot."
"Okay," Chris said slowly, "that's a no for MK. Jasmine, you're up."
"Well, I'm not fond of fairy tales," Jasmine said, "but I might as well."
"Hold on there, Thunder from Down Under," Chris told her. "You have to put the boot on first. Make sure you're actually Princess material."
Jasmine frowned. "Okay then." She sat on the end of the table, slipped off one of her shoes, and tried to force it on.
The host and other castmates watched as she grunted and began to sweat, trying to get the boot onto her foot. Eventually, she let out a disappointed breath and held the boot back up. "It's no use," Jasmine told the host. "I can't get it on, and even then, it would shatter to pieces."
"Well," Chris said blankly, "guess that's both candidates out, unless MK changes her mind."
MK just glared at him. "Not a chance."
Anne Maria immediately grinned. "Yo Chris!"
"Looks like we have to do another selection method," Chris grabbed the glass boot and began to turn, only for Anne Maria to dart forward and snatch the footwear away from him.
Anne Maria swiftly tossed aside one of her heels and replaced it with the glass boot. "There," she said with a smile, raising her leg to show the boot glimmering on the end of it, "I always knew that I was meant to be royalty!"
"Fine, Anne Maria can be the Princess," Chris said heavily. "Let's just get this over with. Chef?" he looked back over his shoulder, and the shot pulled back to show the hulking man arriving back on the scene. He had changed into a pale blue ballerina's outfit, and had strapped a pair of fake wings to his back that, along with the glittering 'wand' in his hand, gave him the appearance of a fairy godmother.
"I dub thee, Princess Anne Maria," Chef said shortly as a touching song played, waving the wand above the grinning girl's head and releasing a cloud of sparkling dust that nearly choked Topher, Ripper, and Justin.
Confessional: MK
"Anne Maria as the Princess?" MK told the confessional camera with a snort and a laugh. "I wouldn't want to be in that Fairy Tale. Along with any others out there."
Confessional Ends
A harp played in the background as an image of Chris' head and a large hardcover book appeared on screen in front of a yellowish stock background. "It's story time, with uncle Chris," the host's disembodied head said before the scene flashed to him seated in a large purple armchair with the same book in hand. His left hand was on a joystick built into the arm of the chair, and he seemed to be slowly rolling through the set.
"Once upon a time," he began slowly, the camera pulling back to show the host rolling up to the contestants minus Anne Maria on a wheeled platform, his chair joined by a matching footstool, pedestal side table, and even a fireplace. "Five brave knights went on a quest to rescue a Princess from her ivory tower." He pulled back on the joystick, and the platform came to a stop. "But, it wasn't gonna be easy! First," he looked at the staircase behind him, "the knights had to get past my very good friend," the shot quick-panned up and left to Chef, now dressed in a tattered vest and trousers with a long moss-green wig and beard, "the Terrible Toothless Troll!" The shot zoomed in on Chef as he quickly blackened a few of his front teeth with a sharpie. "And, his Bad Breaks Bridge!"
The camera zoomed out even further as a few ominous chants played in the background, showing a large mountainous set featuring a rickety rope bridge over a treacherous and craggy fake waterfall. The contestants gulped.
"To get past the Terrible Toothless Troll," Chris read on, "the knights had to wear disguises! There was the Frog Prince," he grabbed a vaguely frog-like great helm from behind his chair and tossed it to Justin, "and the Ugly Stepsister," he tossed a large wig of wavy red hair in a tall bun to MK. "Snow White," he tossed a pink sleep mask to Jasmine, "and one of her Seven Dwarves," he followed that up by throwing a tall wizard's hat patterned with stars, moons, and lightning bolts to Topher. "Aaand," the host finished by pulling out a bright red hooded cape, "Little Red Riding Hood."
He tossed it to Ripper, who raised an eyebrow as he caught it. "Seriously? Can't I just be Riding Red?"
"No dice dude. That's what it says in the script," Chris told him as an unseen intern delivered a plate of milk and cookies to the host's side table. He turned and grabbed one, saying "Good work, kid," before continuing his monologue. "And so, the Ugly approached the Terrible Troll."
"I can't see in this thing!" MK said.
"Oh yeah," Chris said to a dramatic rise in the background music, "for this challenge, each knight is blind." The five teens immediately began to protest, causing the host to snap at them. "Nowhere in this story does it say 'the cowardly knights complained'!" he told the cast with a brief glance at his book. "So get it together, steppy, and get crossing!"
The footage skipped ahead to show MK slowly inching her way across the bridge while holding on to one of the rope rails. "This ain't too bad," she said to herself. She was hit by several red apples in rapid succession, causing her to yelp in pain.
"Oh, also," Chris said as the shot cut back to him, "those are Wicked Witch's apples, so, they're poisonous and rotten. You might wanna watch..."
He stopped talking as the shot cut back to MK slipping on one of the apples and fell off the bridge to the rocky set below. The camera followed as she fell and bounced off of several outcroppings before landing onto the hard ground. The shot cut briefly to the other contestants as they winced in pain before cutting back to the techno girl lying awkwardly on the ground with an apple in her mouth.
"Well, looks like MK isn't fairy tale hero material," Chris commented, dunking one of his cookies into his glass of milk. The short girl writhed in pain.
Confessional: MK
MK had on a neck brace and bandages around her head and torso, "I'm having trouble remembering what happened after the fall. Does that mean I have a concussion?"
Confessional Ends
A harp was played as the footage cut back to the other contestants standing at the start of the bridge. "Next, the eighth dwarf," Chris said as he moved his platform around towards the far staircase. "He grabbed a fistful of courage and headed across the bridge."
Topher glanced over at Chef. The man had hunched over, and was slapping a cat o' nine tails against his hand with a wild grin. He took a deep breath, put on the wizard’s hat over his eyes, and charged forward with a battle cry. Chef raised his eyebrows and rushed out to stop him, but he jumped onto a rope rail and ran through it until he was past Chef.
"Did I make it?" Topher asked, having reached the other side.
Confessional: Topher
"Poise classes have taught me to always be aware of my surroundings, whether I’m blindfolded or not," Topher grinned. "And with Anne Maria as the Princess, I’m not botching this one."
Confessional Ends
The footage skipped ahead to Jasmine's attempt, the sleeping mask already over her eyes and her hands firmly on the ropes of the bridge as she walked forward at a steady pace. Chef squeezed a mother goose, launching a golden egg out of its rear like a bullet. It shot past the girl's shoulder. "What was that?" Jasmine asked as she moved her head to track it. A second egg hit her square in the chest, knocking her back a step and putting a grin on Chef's face.
Jasmine frowned for a moment, then took a cautious step that was apparently at the bridge's weak point. The camera zoomed in on the bridge as it rippled, knocking loose every plank all the way to Chef. With a gasp and a scream, the troll and his goose fell, and the scene cut to him as he grabbed something behind his back. "They don't pay me enough for this!" Chef yelled, pulling the cord of a hidden parachute and floating down safely.
Jasmine was unaware of the danger and took one more step, expectedly screaming and falling. The camera cut to Chris as he followed the Amazon girl's fall and winced at the sound of an impact. "Awesome!" he cheered. "You’re up, froggy." The scene cut to the start of the bridge where Justin stood. "Then Captain Hood after that."
Justin put on his helmet. "At least my face will be protected from further indignity," he said as he slowly moved towards the bridge. He walked right shoulder into one of the posts holding up the bridge.
Ripper laughed. "Tough break, pretty boy," he jeered. "Go a little to the right." The eye candy followed the advice and walked into the other pole, causing Ripper to laugh. "Sorry man!" the bully called before laughing again.
Chef was shown running past the center of the bridge with an ax raised and ready to strike, while Justin stayed at the bridge completely oblivious. Ripper laughed once more and pushed the model into the cook. "Let me give you a hand," he said as he did so. Chef brought his ax down and hit the hot boy's helmet, causing the eyes to spin comically and Ripper to laugh once more.
Confessional: Justin
“There I was, down dirty, and deafened,” Justin recapped his failure. “And I thought "W.W.A.M.D.": What would Anne Maria do? And then it came to me! She'd use her head.”
Confessional Ends
With a battle cry, Justin rushed the cook with his helmet and ran him over, safely making it to the other side. "Justin's still got it!" Chris said as the camera cut to him. "All right, the final knight attempting to enter Fairy Tale Land is," the shot cut to Ripper as he tied a blindfold over his eyes and faced away from the camera, "Riding Red! We're over this way!"
"My seeing is good," Ripper said as he turned around. The camera cut to his perspective to show that he could actually see Chef putting on a blonde pigtailed wig. "I'm able to see Chef as a female troll! Hilarious!"
"Rapunzel dude, let down your hair!" Chris called, and Chef lengthened one of the pigtails and began swinging it around. He cracked it like a whip at the bully, who dodged it.
The camera cut to Justin watching Ripper avoid every attack. "Hey! He can see!" he cried.
"How?" Chris asked sarcastically. "With his X-ray vision? That'd be cool."
Chef attacked one last time, but Ripper grabbed onto the pigtail and swung across to safety with a whoop.
The footage skipped ahead to a close-up of Chris's book as he began to narrate once again. "And so, the Terrible Toothless Troll knocked off two losers," the shot pulled back to show Jasmine, wearing a leg cast and her right arm in a sling, and MK sitting on the ground nearby. "But," the camera panned over to Justin, Ripper, and Topher on the right, "three semi-brave knights made it to the other side and continued on their noble quest. Whereupon I, in my wisdom, inspired them with a vision of Princess Anne Maria."
The shot pulled back even further, revealing that the group had assembled in front of a small stage with a pink-tinted backdrop depicting a large white castle off in distant hillsides. A slow piano melody began to play as Anne Maria, now dressed in a regal-looking pink gown and tiara, was lowered onto the stage by a few wires.
"When I was a little girl, I'd dream of my first kiss," Anne Maria began to sing in a rather mediocre voice the moment she hit the stage and the wired harness was reeled back up. "It would come from my perfect prince!" A number of tiny birds and chipmunks gathered around her, the birds even landing on her hands. "And in my dream, it went like this!"
The scene immediately cut to the three remaining knights as they watched the performance. Justin and Topher were both stunned by her display, while Ripper couldn't care less.
“She's the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,” Justin said.
Definitely,” Topher chimed in.
“I must've been so busy seeing her as a potential alliance member and extra vote that I didn't see her outer beauty. Wow,” Justin continued in amazement. “We'll be the best looking couple in the kingdom!”
The music came to a halt as Topher and Ripper were surprised by what just came out of Justin's mouth.
“Excuse me, but I am still dating her!” Topher objected heavily.
“And there's no way she'll ever be into you,” Ripper told Justin.
“I saw you cheat, Ripper,” Justin let him know. “You don't deserve to be anybody's prince.”
“And who died and made you the rule master?” Ripper faced the handsome boy threateningly.
"Guys, guys!" Chris said, stepping forward and getting between the boys. "No need to fight! At least not until after this break," he declared happily. "Will Ripper inflict any deformities on Justin? Or will Justin's ripped physique bring two tons of hurt down on Topher's head? Find out when we come back!"
(Commercial Break)
The footage came back to a distance shot of the stage Anne Maria was still singing on, her music resuming as the shot cut closer.
"My prince will be tall and handsome," she sang, the camera panning down to catch Justin standing straight and proud. "My prince will be tough as nails," Ripper flexed his biceps and then lifted a startled Topher over his head.
"My prince will have lots of money," Anne Maria continued, the camera moving back on her as she showered the stage with a wad of cash. "My prince will tame wild whales!" She flexed her own arms, Chris nodded to the beat, and the shot cut to Topher looking at a small and rather disoriented baleen whale on the floor in confusion.
The shot panned down to Jasmine and MK who were watching the performance with boredom on their faces.
"How are you feeling about the whole Fairy Tale thing?" Jasmine asked MK.
"Couldn't care less," MK answered bluntly. "I just don't know why we have to keep watching though."
A close-up was shown of Anne Maria reaching for a wary-eyed frog in a small crown, the Jersey girl pulling it closer to her as she finished her song. "When we kiss~, my prince will be you~!" As the music ended, she held up the frog and kissed it on the lips, but broke almost immediately in a fit of revulsion.
Anne Maria threw the frog away from her, and it landed on Justin's face. "Warts! Get it off!" he cried out as he ran around trying to get the frog out.
"Wasn't that song brilliant?" Chris asked as the focus moved back to him, Jasmine, and MK. "It was so brilliant, I know everyone wishes they could hear it over, and over, and over again! And now they can." He snapped his fingers, and a CD case bearing Princess Anne Maria's picture on the cover was placed in his waiting hand.
"Relive the magic of Anne Maria for only $12.99," he told the camera as a deep and theatrical tune began to play. "Call 555-SELLOUT to get your authentic Princess Anne Maria CD," he added as the camera zoomed in on the case, "before everyone else downloads it illegally!"
"I'll take one!" Topher quickly begged, earning him a CD. "This will be worth spending thirteen dollars of my money."
Confessional: Topher
"My prince will buy me lots of hot dogs! My prince will love ponies too!" Topher was listening to the CD through headphones as his confessional began. "Her singing isn't the best, but I do want to support her," he told the camera.
Confessional Ends
"After risking my life for you, I have come to realize this!" Justin said as he approached the stage. "You're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. And the smartest. What are the odds?"
He offered his hand to Anne Maria, but she didn't take it. "Thanks for telling me what I already know!"
"Uhh, aren't you going to compliment me on my bravery?" Justin asked.
"Nah! Princesses are supposed to be complimented in my world,” Anne Maria said, to Justin's disappointment. “It's not their job to give them out to anyone, but for me, I'll make an exception for Topher, the handsomest knight around!”
The camera moved to Ripper rolling her eyes and Topher smiling. “And you are the most beautiful princess around!” Topher complimented back before a sound caught the attention of both. They turned their heads at once and the scene followed their gaze over to Chef, still in his troll costume but now riding the same fly-ridden horse from earlier in the episode.
"How has that horse not died yet?" MK commented. "It can't be in good condition after all their time being used on this show."
"Just because it's a little old, doesn't mean it's not fighting for their life," Jasmine told her.
Anne Maria hopped onto the horse's back while Ripper and Topher came over. “Are we supposed to catch him?" Topher asked.
"No, it's a classic princess abduction," Chris explained calmly. "As the villain makes a whirlwind getaway on a swift steed."
Chef kicked the horse with his feet, but it didn't react. "Guess ol' Betsy here didn't read the script," he said gruffly.
"Kick harder," Chris commanded, and Chef promptly complied. A stronger kick caused the horse to kick backwards, hitting Justin – who had been standing closest - right in the face.
"That did it," Chef said as Justin was shown to have a few teeth knocked out and a bruised right eye.
"So, that's how the three knight dudes lost the Princess," Chris narrated, "But fate, aka me, wasn't finished with them." Chef and Anne Maria rode off behind him. "They followed the troll all the way to a fight to the death, because that's how I like my princesses saved."
"Sir Topher!" Anne Maria called out playfully as she was slowly abducted. "You better be the one who rescues me!"
"These two haven't even got a chance!" Topher replied arrogantly.
"As good luck, I'll give you my favor to carry into the battle!" Anne Maria tossed the glass boot, but it unintentionally hit Justin in the face.
Confessional: Justin
Justin was having his bruises covered up by make-up brushes from two unknown people while the glass boot was on the table.
“Falling for Anne Maria has been hard on the face. I think we'll have a no glass shoes policy if we start dating soon,” Justin informed and put the boot away. “I have no idea what Chase and Millie's policies are, but they're probably less dignified.”
Confessional Ends
The footage cut forward to a close-up of the old horse chewing on some hay before the camera panned over to a small castle archway propped up against a tower of some sort. "Sir Justin, Sir Topher, and Sir Ripper reached the ivory tower in which the troll had stuck the super tanned princess," Chris read as the three remaining competitors walked into the scene and he followed on his rolling platform. The shot panned up the towers, where several other pieces of crenelated wall had been attached here and there, and at the very top there was a pinkish spire and balcony where Princess Anne Maria waited.
"But there was only one way to rescue her," the host continued with a grin on his face and tense music building in the background. "One of the brave knights had to slay the dragon!"
"Dragon?!" Jasmine asked in alarm. "Tell me you didn't get a real dragon for this!"
"Seeing as dragons don't exist," MK told her, "I find that highly unlikely."
"She's right," Chris said as the music switched to something more ominously lurking. "We're reusing the alien monster guy."
Seconds later, a few tremendous mechanical footsteps were heard. MK and Jasmine looked to stage right and the camera pulled back, showing off the animatronic monster in all its glory. Chef was wearing the motion capture suit that controlled it, and it had been given a hood with horns, a scraggly 'beard', and two tiny wings in order to make it look more draconic. Chef raised his arms menacingly, and the monster echoed the pose and growled.
"Let the dragon slaying begin!" Chris announced, pulling out a trio of wooden swords and throwing them to the knights. Ripper caught the shortest, Topher the most slender, and Justin the broadest, and the three turned to face the tower and dragon.
"I'm counting on you, Sir Topher!" Anne Maria called from above, smiling at the fanboy and blowing him a kiss. He accepted it with a grin, and Anne Maria turned her attention to the other two knights and frowned. "As for you two, you'll need all the luck you can get."
"Yeah, cause I'll be the one who's going to slay today!" Topher boasted before turning and charging at the dragon.
"Not so fast," Justin charged at Topher and the two clashed their swords into each other's, only breaking when they noticed a foot-shaped shadow fall upon them. They rolled out of the way before the monster stomped them, and the camera panned over to Justin landing next to Ripper.
“You want Topher to win?” Justin faced Ripper.
“Like I care which one of you wins,” Ripper scoffed.
“Then help me take him down and I'll let you win,” Justin offered.
Ripper thought about it, and the viewpoint moved over to Chef guiding the monster in stomping and snapping at Topher. He was able to strike the dragon's head with his sword. “You are not going to stop me from rescuing Anne Maria!” the fanboy told the dragon.
“Just get them both chasing you,” Ripper suggested.
“And why?” Justin asked.
“Do you want to stop that monster or not?” Ripper glared. “Just do it!”
Justin sighed but complied, and both Topher and the Chef-controlled monster made moves to chase after him while Ripper watched from the sidelines.
“Are you going to fight me or run away from me?!” Topher asked with a taunt.
“Justin, you're going to stop running in 3…2…1!” Ripper ordered, and Justin paused his dash.
Topher also stopped chasing him as well, and the dragon, who was still trying to chase the others, caught its foot on Topher and somehow tripped. It flailed its arms humorously before crashing to the ground.
"A job well done," Ripper said as he ran over to the large red button on the side of the beast's neck. “Now to claim my second immunity win in a row!” he said as he readied his sword to finish it off, but Justin came up to push him off the dragon and onto the floor.
"Sorry Ripper," Justin told him. "If Izzy was the prize, I'm sure you'd do the same thing." He plunged his sword into the dragon's neck, causing it to fizzle and short out. "Anne Maria," he dramatically called out, "your prince is coming."
"Some prince," Ripper mocked.
The camera panned to the right to show Chris' moving platform as he arrived with Jasmine and MK in tow.
"Wanna rescue Princess Anne Maria too?" he asked the camera. "Now you can, for only $79.95!" he pulled out a pink-and-yellow striped box and held it up for the camera, a vaguely Anne Maria-shaped doll barely visible inside. "Order your very own Princess Anne Maria Limited Edition Glass Boot Doll! Playing with the Anne Maria doll is more fun and less dangerous than playing with the real Anne Maria. Guaranteed!" He finished with a cheesy grin.
The scene cut to the top of the ivory tower as Justin climbed up to the balcony where Anne Maria waited. "I have arrived!" Justin announced.
"Not the guy I was expecting, but a reward is a reward," Anne Maria grumbled and the two moved in for a kiss.
"Wait, wait, there's no kissing!" Chris interrupted the two from his chair.
“What?” Justin felt confused.
“Oh yeah!” Topher cheered from under the dragon.
"It says here that Prince Justin and Princess Anne Maria must sword fight to determine the true winner!" Chris explained while reading off his book.
"Which means I still have a chance at winning immunity?" Anne Maria asked quickly.
"You're much smarter than most princesses," Chris replied.
"Usually, most fairy tales end with a kiss," Jasmine said.
"Well, this is a modern tale," Chris explained. "Gals have to fight for themselves."
“You can say that again,” MK agreed.
“If that's how it has to be-” Anne Maria said.
“No,” Justin cut her off, now kneeling on one leg. “I am a noble gentleman. A brave knight. A handsome prince. I would never hurt a lady.”
“But you would hurt a guy working with you,” Ripper interjected after getting up on his feet.
“I said I was sorry, Ripper,” Justin told him with annoyance and focused back on Anne Maria. “I refuse to raise a sword to Anne Maria.” Anne Maria took the sword from him. “I give up any chance at immunity to spare her. And now…”
Justin puckered his lips and moved close, only for his eyes to widen. The camera pulled back to show the hilt of the sword buried in his crotch.
“Not sorry! I'm already taken!" Anne Maria declared before pushing Justin off.
Justin fell with a scream until he hit one of the 'towers' on his cheek. He kept on hitting one tower after another until he hit the ground on his back in severe pain. “I'm okay!”
The camera panned over to Chris and the other losers. "Anne Maria wins immunity! Again!" the host announced.
"Yes!" Anne Maria cheered.
The opening sequence of the Gilded Chris Ceremony came and went, leaving the scene focused on the tux-wearing host at his podium. "So," Chris began with an award already in his hand, "with immunity, Anne Maria is the first to win a Gilded Chris." He tossed the statuette to the girl, sitting on the left side of the bleachers, and she caught it with a smug grin.
"Immunity and my own dolls? How much better can this day get?" Anne Maria said.
"Well, it's not like you're getting the profits from the Princess Anne Maria line," Chris said plainly.
Anne Maria's eyes popped open in shock. "Uh, what?!" she said in outrage. “It's my line!”
“I’m saying that you're not going to get the profits because they’ll be sent over to your family for safekeeping, along with a Princess Anne Maria doll,” Chris explained. “I don't want any of my interns or producers to take what's rightfully yours. Lawsuits and all.”
“Oh!” Anne Maria said in relief. “I'm relieved, but I'm also upset that you made me act like an idiot!”
"Then you should have let me finish! Also still in the competish," Chris announced with another two awards in his hand, "MK and Jasmine." The former caught her prize in her lap with a confident grin, and the latter with a happy smile.
"And also Ripper," the host continued, the camera panning to the bully who smiled as he caught his award.
Spotlights were put on Justin and Topher, the former in a body cast. "Who will live happily ever after, and who will die penniless," Chris said as the music built dramatically. "And the last Gilded Chris goes to… Justin!"
"What?!" Anne Maria stood up. "You have to be joking! Justin should be going home!"
"Yeah, you're right. I was just kidding," Chris said. "Justin's actually the one who's been eliminated."
Topher caught his award. “I knew I would be safe.”
Confessional: Topher
“I told everybody to vote off Justin,” Topher confirmed. “He tried to move in on my girlfriend, and him getting booted would serve him right. The best part is, everybody was on board with it and I didn’t even have to try and convince them.”
Confessional Ends
Justin got up and started to head to the red carpet, but stopped to look at the contestants. “So is no one even going to miss me?”
“I never liked you,” MK shrugged.
“See ya,” Ripper said apathetically. “Get better soon, or sometime.”
“Okay, stop already! I'm going! But you'll regret it,” Justin told them and walked to the red carpet. Before getting into the limousine, he gave one last look to the remaining players. “With me gone, this competition just got eighty percent less handsome.” The eye candy turned around, only to hit his head on the roof. “All right, seventy-nine!” he groaned.
The footage paused there, and the camera pulled back to show it on one of the monitors in the control tent. Chris was sitting in his chair playing with a couple of Princess Anne Maria dolls, a few more scattered on the nearby desk.
"I know what I told Anne Maria, but marketing says that our target audience is too old for dolls," Chris told the camera as the footage on the monitor cut to static. "They're just not selling!" He looked to the side, and the camera panned to follow and show Chef playing with a group of Princess Anne Maria dolls dressed up as soldiers.
"Princesses, attack!" he said with a dark grin, lighting a miniature cannon with a match as the deeper and more dramatic ending theme began to play. The cannon fired with a puff, blowing the heads off two of the dolls.
Chris gave him an odd look, then turned back to the camera. "Hey target audience! Make sure you don't miss the next kiss-filled episode of Total! Drama! Action!" As soon as he finished saying the title, he mashed the mouths of the two dolls he was holding together and made kissing sounds. "Now you see, Chef," he told his companion, "that's how you play with dolls."

(Bonus Clip)
The scene opened to Justin sitting on the back seat of the limousine with the glass boot in hand. “What I've learned? Well, maybe that good looks won't take you everywhere you want to go,” he said wisely. “I mean, what have I ended up with? A wounded face, a bruised ego, and a shoe that I can't even wear. Maybe if I stopped modeling and threw all my energy into getting smarter, more girls could fall in love with me,” he thought. “But modeling pays. And Jesús, my booker, says that even with my severe facial wounds, he can get me a bunch of leg modeling and some celebrity kid's birthday party. So, love schmove.” He threw the glass boot out the window, and a shattering sound indicated that the boot was destroyed.
