2024.05.21 11:00 Rebochan Some musings about what the new video shows about Disney's perception of Star Wars as a product

So I was flying most of Sunday from Zurich to Helsinki and I re-upped my YouTube Premium sub for a month just to download this to my phone and partake on two flights that inexplicably had no WiFi.
There was something really fascinating about this video, Jenny hasn't talked a lot about Disney on her main channel in awhile but I always liked her Disney content because she had an insider's take. What surprised me during this video was like... how much I was seeing shades of Evermore Park in where the corners were cut on the Starcruiser. But it's *Disney* cutting the costs, why even do that?
And then I found myself thinking a lot about the current state of Star Wars as a Disney "product." Because that's what anything they buy out is - a product. And the reason so many of the shows and the sequel films end up being bad is that the purpose of making a Star Wars film or show has completely changed. Its not that Star Wars hasn't been a *brand* in the past, but it was at least something made because *the people making it liked Star Wars.* Nobody thought the prequels were bad because Lucas was doing them just for the money or the toy sales. It wasn't run into the ground to force the brand awareness to stay high enough to continue to generate interest in luxury vacations.
But like... think about why Rise of Skywalker was so awful and look at when Batuu opened. They started plans to build that expansion to their theme park in 2013, before Force Awakens was even released. Yea, those films weren't made because someone really wanted to make a new Star Wars, and that's why they just farmed three movies out to three directors and told them to have fun since the movies just needed to sell Disney theme park tickets. They expected certain characters like Kylo Ren to be a big deal and got caught off guard by things like the popularity of Rey. You notice how the sequel trilogy's first film spends a lot of time on Finn and by the last film he's barely in it? And then think about how Rise of Skywalker felt like a corporation attempting to appease the angry YouTubers who were mad about "Woke Star Wars" to the point they kicked an actress to the side and seemingly sided with racist harassment against her. Or how they suddenly slammed in the revival of a very dead and unmentioned franchise villain to try to appease fan boys. Or even how they seemed aware of a popular fan ship of two men and then suddenly we never saw them together again? Because oh man, we can't have Star Wars getting banned in the Middle East for the gay or they won't see the movie and won't want to come visit Star Wars Land!
Jenny's anger at the end is pretty well justified. This one hotel is the end state of one corporation attempting to take something people had a strong emotional attachment to and transfer that attachment to their version of it, a version that costs way more money but cuts all the corners they can.

2024.05.21 11:00 Vojcekk Help with implementation in my company

Hello,
I'm now tasked with implementation of Odoo in our own company and i have some questions i couldn't find answers to. I would love to get help here.
1) custom invoice templates - I found out, that invoices can be edited through some HTML(?) coding. But there is a sentence saying that it will destroy my edit when updated, and i should use Odoo Studio instead. Funny enough i can't seem to find where to use the Studio for this, since its greyed out everywhere. Does someone know how to edit template (not only for invoicing, but for delivery lists and others aswell) through studio? Is it better than using the HTML?
2) Can you import your goods from other system with quantity? - I tried to import our stock into Odoo, which works fine... until you add the quantity of goods. Then i get this annoying error about "location_id". Nothing works after this. I tried exporting it with location_id and just editing it, but it doesnt work. I watched some tutorials on youtube etc. but they seem to have no problem. Shall i maybe import the products in one module and quantity in other? or something like that?
3) I still have a problem figuring out how does basic cash register for employees work. I have the Expenses module, which seems to work fine. Then you can make payments in Accounting module under the cash section. But it seems... wrong. I just need a confirmation that im doing the right thing and i will continue with it, but it seems like I'm not doing it right. Its basic cash register for when employees are payed for parking, gas, etc. There are just money taken out of it by employees, not in. Also i need reciepts for this! Shall i download point_of_sale module?

How to create a image converter tools website in 2024 (Toolszu.com)
Creating an image converter website involves several steps, including designing the user interface, implementing backend logic for image processing, and deploying the website. Here’s a high-level overview of how you can achieve this:
  1. Define the RequirementsSupported Image Formats: Decide which formats your converter will support (e.g., JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF).Conversion Features: Determine the types of conversions (e.g., format conversion, resizing, compression).User Interface: Plan how the website will look and what functionalities it will have (e.g., file upload, download button).
  2. Design the User InterfaceWireframes and Mockups: Create wireframes and mockups for your website using tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.HTML/CSS: Build the frontend using HTML for structure and CSS for styling.
  3. Develop the FrontendHTML: Structure your web pages.

CSS: Style your web pages./* styles.css */ body { font-family: Arial, sans-serif; display: flex; justify-content: center; align-items: center; height: 100vh; margin: 0; background-color: #f0f0f0; }
.container { background-color: #fff; padding: 20px; border-radius: 8px; box-shadow: 0 0 10px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.1); }
h1 { margin-bottom: 20px; }
form { display: flex; flex-direction: column; }
input, select, button { margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 10px; }JavaScript: Handle user interactions and AJAX requests.// script.js document.getElementById('upload-form').addEventListener('submit', async function(e) { e.preventDefault(); const fileInput = document.getElementById('file-input'); const formatSelect = document.getElementById('format-select'); const formData = new FormData(); formData.append('file', fileInput.files[0]); formData.append('format', formatSelect.value);
const response = await fetch('/convert', { method: 'POST', body: formData }); const blob = await response.blob(); const url = URL.createObjectURL(blob); const output = document.getElementById('output'); output.innerHTML = `Download Converted Image`;
});
  1. 2024.05.21 10:37 adr826 The Book of Shadows

The last memory I had of my grandfather was hearing him scream as the the shadows in the field began to surround him with thin, web like fibers. Then my mother picked me up and ran with me in her arms back into our old farm house.
My last memory, that is until last night, when I awakened to a tinkling bell in an unknown vault so immense I couldn't see the walls or the ceiling. Far away I saw a dull light and heard the faint tinkling of a bell, incessantly ringing. I followed the sound till I could see him on a throne, which seemed to have merged with his body, leaving only his fingers free.
The acrid scent of burning wax and a lurking fear clung to the borders of the dream, if a dream it was. There, in the dim candle glow, sat my grandfather, his weathered face, a thousand years older than when I'd last seen him, etched with a desperate urgency. The same face I'd last seen contorted in a scream as he was swallowed by the shadows that had consumed him years ago.
"Elias," his voice, as dry as the dust that blanketed his entire body, said "You must listen. The darkness… it returns. Stronger this time." Terror struck my heart like a dagger, the memory of that horrifying night vivid even after all these years.
He pointed to a small table, on top of which lay an ancient leather book. "The Book of Repelling Shadows," he whispered. "Hidden all these years in my library… find the spell. You'll know it by the seven ravens on the preceding page. Recite it, Elias. It's the only way to banish the darkness and save yourself from my terrible fate. Go!!"
The dream dissolved, I awoke in a cold sweat, back in my bed. My heart pounded, like a drum, a rhythm of dread mixed with a sliver of desperate hope. I knew I must find the book or suffer the same choking embrace of eldritch shadows that had cursed our family for generations. Had my grandfather finally learned the secret to banish them forever? I had to find that book before they returned to claim me.
The book was, as He'd said it would be, in the family library. Written in an strange tongue, I frantically turned page after page till I discovered a page, on which were drawn seven ravens. On the opposite page there was written a single spell. The script was a simple gothic alphabet which I could recite, even though the language was unfamiliar.
Days bled into nights as I poured over the archaic script, the cryptic letters writhing like snakes before my sleep-deprived eyes. The passage was an incantation which seemed to promise the banishment of shadows. Relief washed over me, freedom from the ancient curse within my grasp. Tomorrow, I would face the darkness, armed with my grandfather's book.
The next night, I stood in the field behind the farmhouse. The moon was casting long, menacing shadows across the grass. Clutching the book, my voice trembled as I began the chant. The shadows seemed to peer into me, responding to the power of the words. Then, a flicker in the corner of my eye. A single tendril of darkness began to creep back from me, melting into the others.
Suddenly, I felt powerful even joyous as I recited the passages. I'd done it. I'd outwitted the very essence of darkness, using the power of the grimoire in my grandfathers library to turn it back. But as I closed the book , a flicker of unease sparked in my mind.
The symbols on the cover seemed different somehow. The incantation I'd recited sounded wrong as it paused, seeming to hang in the air . Anxiety began to overtake me, I felt a cold fear creeping down my spine. The shadows, weren't retreating as I believed but were surging forward with a malevolent hunger.
Frantic, I flipped through the pages, searching for the passage, the one that had repelled the darkness. But there were no ravens to be found, only a chilling emptiness where the spell had been moments ago. In my desperation, a horrifying realization dawned. This wasn't the Book of Banishing Shadows. It had never been.
The reality crashed over me like a tidal wave. My grandfather had been dead long ago. That old man on the throne wasnt him. All along, I'd been an unwitting pawn, duped by the darkness itself into unleashing the very thing I feared the most. The shadows I'd "banished" were now dancing joyously, in the pale moonlight.
My scream, lost in the encroaching darkness, was the last sound the world would ever hear from me. I was slowly being enveloped by the very shadows I so naively believed I'd repelled. The book, now fallen at my feet, in a cruel mockery of hope, lay closed. Its true title now plain to see in the last rays of the setting moon - The Book of Summoning Shadows.

2024.05.21 10:27 Heavy_Credit_8954 Vidnoz Faceswap Review: How is the effect? Is it worth the price?

Vidnoz Faceswap Review: How is the effect? Is it worth the price?
Hello everyone, this is the third face swap tool I've tried. It also ranks high in search results when looking for face swap options.
So, I gave it a try and conducted a thorough comparison with Deepswap, the product I'm most familiar with, to evaluate its specific features and whether it's worth the investment.
Pricing Plan of Vidnoz
Most of Vidnoz's AI face swap features offer a free trial service, but some features are limited, such as the resolution of images/videos and the size of the photo/video uploads. However, for users who want to try it out, the free trial of Vidnoz should generally meet your needs.
In terms of pricing, Vidnoz is on the expensive side as they have adopted a membership + credits system.
You first need to pay to become a subscription user, with the specific prices as follows:
  • Starter Plan: $26.99/mo
  • Business Plan: $74.99/mo
You still need to purchase credits to use these features, the specific prices are as follows:
https://preview.redd.it/nr1yd6f2oq1d1.jpg?width=1759&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1675c0c65b0e9d22c305e6b647a35edcc53f61fd
Once you become a subscription user, you will have access to all of Vidnoz's AI features, which include not only photo/video face swap but also talking photos, text-to-videos, AI avatars, and a range of other functionalities.
All features are bundled together for sale, so for users who only want to use the face swap feature, you either make use of the free trial offered, or you have to spend a significant amount of money to purchase all the AI features provided, which I think is quite expensive.
Key Features Review: Vidnoz VS Deepswap
Photo Face Swap (Score: 8/10)
Vidnoz delivers excellent results, with no discernible traces of AI face swapping.
The service is available for free use.
The facial features align very well with the character's face, and the face shape is also a good match, although it cannot restore the character's facial lighting and shadows.
There's also a comparison button, you can press and hold it to compare with the original image. Additionally, it supports social media sharing and downloading.
https://preview.redd.it/jakfcuf8oq1d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=8aa7b91c77af49e7a5ffa17ce64d76b6054bf98a
After a face swap, the character's appearance in Vidnoz looks more natural than in DeepSwap, but the images from DeepSwap are more in keeping with the original character's expressions.
Vidnoz's facial appearance seems more harmonious, but DeepSwap's eyes and eyebrows are more reminiscent of the original character.
https://preview.redd.it/tb9z5glboq1d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=3e2eac86032e1e771d5f41615208a4cccf85eb37
Video Face Swap (Score: 8/10)
Vidnoz supports GIFs and video face swapping. Free users can upload videos up to 100MB, while paid users can extend this to 500MB.
The free version supports face swap videos of up to 15 seconds, and sometimes you may need to queue.
With Deepswap, paying users can upload larger files of up to 500MB and videos of up to 10 minutes, which is essentially the same as Vidnoz.
Vidnoz's facial features tend to fit well with the face, maintaining consistency even when hair is covering parts of the face, making it look very natural and not like it has been altered with deepfake technology. However, some imperfections may still appear when the character is in motion.
https://i.redd.it/gacyniqwoq1d1.gif
Compared to Deepswap, Deepswap's character facial clarity is higher, and it also restores the character's expressions more accurately. Vidnoz seems to use some filters that beautify the character's image. You can clearly see that the video's color tone is different from the original.
https://i.redd.it/p0pkb6uyoq1d1.gif
Batch Photo Swap (Score:7/10)
After uploading a photo, the system will automatically recognize the facial features of the target person in the image. Then, you just need to upload the photo you want to replace it with.
The facial features are well-fitted to the face, and Vidnoz employs some image beautification techniques, making the person's face and features look more refined and attractive while retaining their original appearance.
https://preview.redd.it/vae1qpp4pq1d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=1cf8eea1d7df67bb6b763a785dc520ce12c48509
In contrast, Deepswap lacks similar image beautification functions, but it is better at restoring some of the basic characteristics of the target person, making them look more like themselves, although the features are not as refined as those in Vidnoz.
https://preview.redd.it/hoypaxv6pq1d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=8d25d8026427bdb5a7faf39ab036afb006fc07e0
AI Background Remover (Score:8/10)
In comparison, Vidnoz performs better with smoother image edges and better handling of hair details.
https://preview.redd.it/8a77oopapq1d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=5d4768c396630b0b4b33ed901ca53d9437b4b6da
AI cartoon generator (Score:6/10)
The images generated by Vidnoz resemble oil paintings. Deepswap's results are more cartoon-like, but the quality is average. Both still need improvement.
https://preview.redd.it/u3dkogodpq1d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=d4eac87d0713aa3e7d4a3d40decc84489eea1792
Pros:
  • Excellent photo face-swapping results, with automatic beautification of images.
  • Excellent video face-swapping effects, with automatic color correction tailored for videos.
  • A variety of additional features, including AI virtual characters, AI avatars, Talking photos, and more.
Cons:
  • The price is relatively high, as all AI features are bundled together for sale. For face swap users, it's unnecessary to purchase the entire suite just for the other AI functionalities.
Conclusion:
Vidnoz offers an exceptional and excellent photo/video face swap service. All the generated images and videos look incredibly natural, without any significant AI traces.
Moreover, the generated pictures and videos are enhanced with some facial beautification work, including color adjustment.
If you're just a casual face swap user, then 720P images and 15-second videos will perfectly meet your needs.
The face swap quality of Vidnoz is impeccable. However, if you're a heavy user, you'll have to spend a considerable amount of money to purchase Vidnoz's AI capabilities bundle, which I don't think is worth it.
If you're a heavy user and only want to spend a little money to experience more face swap features, then I suggest you try Deepswap. After all, they offer similar face swap quality, but at a more affordable price.

AltChar - Asmir Kovacevic - 95 / 100
Few games in recent times have been able to do what Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 has done: make me feel so engaged and immersed that I wish the feeling would never stop. It is a game that will keep you in constant awe throughout the playtime with its fantastic and mysterious story, incredible graphic and sound presentation and realistic and brutal combat that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time.
But Why Tho? - Mick Abrahamson - 7.5 / 10
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II won’t be for everyone. But if you are looking for a brutal continuation of a fantastic story that feels like you’re actually playing a movie, you’ll have a great time here.
CGMagazine - Justin Wood - 7 / 10
Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 starts incredibly strong in the first half, but after certain revelations, the story speeds up to a point where the conclusion feels rushed and half-baked.
COGconnected - Mark Steighner - 95 / 100
It has been a very long time since I played a game as assured, polished, and emotionally affecting as Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2.
Cerealkillerz - Steve Brieller - German - 7.9 / 10
If you expect an immersive but not so interactive “game”, Senua’s Saga Hellblade II delivers a short yet intense experience. Ninja Theory has once again skillfully created an impressive atmosphere, as they did in Senua’s Sacrifice. Unfortunately, the issues remain as well: Puzzles and combat are too easy and there is no variety in either. So please keep in mind, that this is more a Hellblade 1.5 than a true sequel.
Checkpoint Gaming - Charlie Kelly - 10 / 10
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is well worth the wait and is a serious game of the year contender. Senua's follow-up journey is the best exploration of mental health that we've seen in games to date, using incredibly striking visual imagery, metaphors and immersive soundscapes to have you feel right there next to her. In what has to be the most photo-realistic game of all time, you're guaranteed to be constantly taken by the hero's adventure as you take in the beautiful and often haunting Viking Iceland. Through mud and dirt, blood and bones, Senua and Ninja Theory in turn bare all to you, the player. A masterpiece, benchmark and magnum opus, Hellblade II is crucial storytelling you won't soon forget.
Console Creatures - Patrick Tremblay - Recommended
With Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, Ninja Theory shows that video games can be more than simple entertainment: they can be profound artistic and emotional explorations, capable of touching and transforming those who play them. This is an unforgettable journey into the heart of Iceland's darkness, where every step of Senua is a step towards self-discovery.
Digital Trends - Tomas Franzese - 4 / 5
Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is a visual stunner for Xbox even if its gameplay isn't too creative.
Echo Boomer - David Fialho - Portuguese - Essential
Ninja Theory has finally delivered the long-awaited and provocative sequel to Hellblade, with one of the most impressive interactive cinematic experiences of the generation, which makes you question what is real and leaves you dreaming of the graphic potential of future games still on current consoles.
Enternity.gr - Christos Chatzisavvas - Greek - 9.5 / 10
With Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, Ninja Theory builds the game it dreamed of, creating a title on a larger scale than any other.
Eurogamer - Johnny Chiodini - 5 / 5
Hellblade 2 continues Senua's story with grace, confidence, surprising brutality and thundering conviction.
GAMES.CH - Olaf Bleich - German - 89%
The game sucks you skin and hair into its fantasy world and creates such an intense bond with the characters and their stories that you want to know at every second how the adventure ends.
Game Informer - Marcus Stewart - 9 / 10
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II’s conclusion ends on another strong note, and despite my initial reservations about continuing Senua’s story, I walked away happy to see her conquer new monsters, both literal and metaphorical.
GameSpot - Jess Cogswell - 6 / 10
Hellblade 2 is perhaps the most visually remarkable Xbox title to date, but is ultimately undermined by its emphasis on fidelity over story and gameplay.
GamingTrend - Cassie Peterson - 95 / 100
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is a stunning and immersive storytelling experience that really puts the player into the mind of its titular character. It's even more narratively-focused than the first game (not to its detriment), with a bigger emphasis on how Senua sees and interacts with the world around her. The whole experience from start to finish has been beyond memorable.
Generación Xbox - Pedro del Pozo - Spanish - 9.3 / 10
Ninja Theory manages to place Senua in the Olympus of videogames with the most visually and sonorously powerful game we have seen so far. A spectacular, stunning and awe-inspiring journey.
IGN - Tristan Ogilvie - 8 / 10
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is another Viking-worthy feast for the senses that meets the high bar set by its predecessor, even if it never really manages to clear it.
INVEN - Soojin Kim - Korean - 8.5 / 10
The game's high level of immersion makes you want to play it from start to finish in one sitting. With outstanding audiovisual presentation and effects, it gives the feeling that you're playing a movie, not watching it. However, the gameplay elements, such as combat and puzzles, still lack significant meaning, which leads to rather disappoint feelings.
Kakuchopurei - Jonathan Leo - 80 / 100
While the story & gameplay's broad strokes might be familiar, Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2's execution, perspective, and overall production values are just stellar and highlights Ninja Theory's strengths in delivering what it does best: story-heavy cinematic gaming. The characters are fleshed out and well-written, with proper focus on your main character and her turmoils that carry over from the first game, the fighting feels weighty and challenging without being completely frustrating, and the HUD-less approach to presentation is welcome.
Kotaku - Claire Jackson - Unscored
A spellbinding meditation on anguish and compassion, Hellblade II delivers one of the most gripping interactive and sensory experiences of 2024
Merlin'in Kazanı - Murat Oktay - Turkish - 89 / 100
The chaotic story of Senua continues. We set out to take revenge on the Viking raiders who have inflicted devastating losses on the people of Orkney.
Metro GameCentral - GameCentral - 5 / 10
A joyless slog of barely interactive entertainment and a muddled portrayal of mental illness… that just so happens to have the best graphics ever on a video game console.
MondoXbox - Giuseppe Genga - Italian - 9.5 / 10
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is a true masterpiece: a deep and highly immersive narrative experience that manages to make us feel all the protagonist's torment within an impressively realistic world. Ninja Theory reveals itself to be one of the most valuable studios in the Xbox stable here, reaching levels of absolute excellence in graphics, audio, narration, and acting. A must-play.
New Game Network - Alex Varankou - 70 / 100
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II keeps the basics intact, and while a strong lead character, great animations, and simple but enjoyable combat continue to deliver, the poor pacing and performance issues prevent this sequel from breaking free of its past.
Nexus Hub - Sam Aberdeen - 8 / 10
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is the best-looking game we've ever played - a true visual powerhouse backed by an emotionally charged story and gripping dark fantasy setting, if you can look past some of its shortcomings.
One More Game - Chris Garcia - 9 / 10
Hellblade 2 is a triumph in masterful storytelling and impeccable audio design for Ninja Theory. It is an emotionally powerful experience that depicts a sensitive subject that is hardly talked about in the medium.
To achieve this, the game stripped out several features and systems like combat and exploration in favor of a deeper narrative affair. This is not for everyone, but it is something I would encourage everyone to try at least try out.
Oyungezer Online - Onur Kaya - Turkish - 8 / 10
Next gen graphics and presentation is now among us, next gen game design on the other hand, will be running late.
PC Gamer - Robin Valentine - 58 / 100
Despite its greater scale and visual splendour, this sequel fails to escape the shadow of its predecessor with a muddled tale that Senua herself feels out of place in.
PCGamesN - Cheri Faulkner - 9 / 10
Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is an impeccable story of coming to terms with trauma and making difficult decisions, punctuated by moments of outstanding beauty and strength.
Pixel Arts - Danial Dehghani - Persian - 9 / 10
Hellblade 2 is a stellar example of a sequel done right, building on the elements that made the original a landmark in gaming. It stays true to its roots, prioritizing depth and atmosphere over broad appeal. Fans of the first game will find much to love here, as it remains a unique and compelling experience. However, if the original didn't resonate with you, Hellblade 2 follows a similar path and might not change your mind.
Polygon - Yussef Cole - Unscored
Where the first game felt like a journey of self-discovery, both for Senua and for the player, Hellblade 2 feels more invested in creating the myth of Senua: Senua as legendary giant slayer, as mystical seer touched by the underworld.
Press Start - Brodie Gibbons - 9 / 10
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is yet another arresting, artful chapter in an adventure now two games long. Though it might approach iteration with a very safe hand, only going so far as to correct the original's shortcomings, Ninja Theory's clear strengths in story craft, audiovisual design, as well as their care for the dark subject matter manage to shine through brighter than ever before.
Rectify Gaming - Tyler Nienburg - 10 / 10
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II emerges as a visual and storytelling masterpiece, and is unquestionably the best-looking game I've witnessed on Xbox Series X since its launch.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Rick Lane - Unscored
A more uncompromising version of the first game, Hellblade 2 offers a well told story and immaculate presentation. But it's also even simpler, to the point where it treats interaction like an inconvenience.
SECTOR.sk - Matúš Štrba - Slovak - 9.5 / 10
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is, at its core, a short game, but an excellent one. But it's not for everyone. It's a bloody and often disgusting experience based on strong emotions and immersion in a character that just won't let you go. It's more of an artistic experience than a traditional game.
Saudi Gamer - Arabic - 10 / 10
An exceptionally well realized portrayal of Senua's struggle both real and praying on her fears, with brutal and satisfying combat and puzzles that require you to appreciate the world. It successfully continues what the first game started and improves upon almost every aspect.
Seasoned Gaming - Ainsley Bowden - 9 / 10
Senua's Saga is a journey unlike any other. It's fantastical, evocative, and demonstrative of Ninja Theory being masters of their craft.
Shacknews - TJ Denzer - 9 / 10
Hellblade 2 still does incredibly well. The new story is weighty, the audio is exceptional, the scenery is ridiculously dense and rich, and the combat feels intense and impactful in new and interesting ways.
Slant Magazine - Justin Clark - 3.5 / 5
The newest chapter in Senua’s story is powerfully told but feels like it’s missing a few pages.
Spaziogames - Gianluca Arena - Italian - 7.6 / 10
Senua's Saga is as strong as its predecessor, if not more, and delivers both in its storytelling and on the technical side. The gameplay, however, has still a lot of room for improvements and boils down to almost-QTE combat and boring puzzles. An experience more than an actual and so-called video game, but an experience worth living nonetheless.
Stevivor - Jay Ball - 9.5 / 10
Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2 is a video game only on its surface. Scratch that away and you’ll see that it’s a deep, thought-provoking, interactive experience proving games are an art form that demands skill and talent. Ninja Theory should be very proud.
TechRaptor - Robert Scarpinito - 7.5 / 10
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II features intense audio, beautiful graphics, and wonderful camera work, creating a powerful presentation that’s worth experiencing. However, the narrative doesn’t quite stick the landing.

The Outerhaven Productions - Jordan Andow - 5 / 5
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II sets a new bar for performances and presentation. Combined with smart improvements to gameplay, it is arguably the most cinematic, immersive, story-driven experience we’ve ever seen.
TheSixthAxis - Dominic Leighton - Unscored
Just like its forbear, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is an oppressive, powerful and haunting example of the power of video games, and one that sets its own parameters for what a digital experience can be. It is a game that must be experienced, not least because, there’s nothing else quite like it.
Tom's Hardware Italia - Andrea Riviera - Italian - 10 / 10
What Ninja Theory has achieved transcends reality, creating a work that is practically perfect for what it aimed to be: an audiovisual adventure with a strong narrative component. Beyond state-of-the-art graphics and sound that will undoubtedly set a standard in the coming years, what truly astonishes is the maturity with which the team has taken an excellent game like the first Hellblade and molded it into something so qualitatively impressive that it becomes difficult to even describe. This elevates the medium to a new communicative level, capable of evoking emotions and surprising players from start to finish. Experiences like Hellblade 2, which leave a lasting impression on the soul, are few and far between in a generation, and we can only rejoice in seeing how the beautiful artistic vision of the Ninja Theory team has become a reality.
Too Much Gaming - Carlos Hernandez - 5 / 5
Hellblade 2 feels like a living, breathing shapeshifter, manipulating its surroundings around the player with precision and consistency, making it one of the most visually stunning video games of this generation. This is an amazing title that carefully balances its artistic and gaming ambitions, a masterpiece that I encourage any gamer to experience.
TrueAchievements - Sean Carey - 9 / 10
Ninja Theory has created an outstanding sequel with Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2. An unforgettable narrative adventure that is brought to life through impeccable sound design, fantastic visuals, and a story that will stick with you long after the final credits roll. Hellblade 2 is one of the best games Xbox has to offer.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is a technical achievement for the gaming industry, the visuals are impressive and realistic in a way we haven't seen before and the audio design is very impressive. The game itself though, we think it could've offered more as puzzles are repetitive and combat is quite limited. However, the storytelling is strong in this chapter of Senua's journey, though it feels heavy and depressing.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is a beautiful but ultimately hollow game. The fantastic presentation props up a story that is less personal and engaging than in the first game, and the gameplay feels like an afterthought. It was great to see Senua again and to see her outside of the grief-misery she was enveloped in during the first game, but beyond that, there's not much to Hellblade II. It's a short and less memorable experience that shows off Ninja Theory's visual craft to its fullest - but it achieves little else.

While Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 might not set any new standards with its simplistic gameplay mechanics, from an audio-visual experience standpoint, it's frankly quite a stunning experience. Hellblade 2 is as close to playing the leading role in a big budget movie as you’re likely to get, and Ninja Theory’s continued coverage on the complexities of severe mental health issues deserves to be commended once more. Bravo, Ninja Theory. Bravo.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is undoubtedly one of the best games of this year. Not only does it shine in terms of audio-visual setting, but also in terms of story.

2024.05.21 09:55 IamPankie I was screwed over. What legal steps to take, if any.

Howzit everyone. I need advise please. I'm in sales doing b2b business development and account management. As COVID was happening and people were losing jobs, I unfortunately was also not spared. The company I worked for at that time lost one of their key contracts and COVID compounded the issue leading to massive revenue losses.
Because of the nature of my work, I decided then that it wouldn't make sense for me to wait in the unemployment line so I went out on my own. I registered a business and offered outsourced lead generation, business development and or account management services to my customers. The first obvious customer was my previous employer. They got the benefit of having an extended sales capacity that they didn't pay for until a deal was closed and I benefitted from being compensated around 30% GP from all sales I generated. It wasn't long until I had a few more customers, all small businesses, some more established than others. It was slow but I managed to get by until one day I received a call from a woman that got my number from my previous employer and she was looking for an independent consultant to help her with sales. She used to be an exec with Vodacom and when she left, she applied to be a reseller of Vodacom Business Solutions through Vodacom Business.
I explained very clearly that I'm only taking on customers as a business and not independent consultant. I explained the nature of my business and how I expect compensation and after a few lengthy discussion, we decided to go into business together. This is where I think I f@#$d up.
I sent her my standard contract and she informed me that she had a template of her own that was more compliant with Vodacoms requirements. She sent it to me, I signed it and was so excited to be selling Vodacom Business Solutions, I didn't mind overlooking a few red flags.
She didn't sign the contract and send it back to me because in a short space of time, we had developed a very "close friendship" and would have very meaningful conversations about our lives and families. My mother had just died a month or so prior so I was also very emotionally vulnerable to be paying attention.
Anyways, time passes, now and again I speak to her about the contract and she has this and that excuse but primarily plays on the trust factors. That we've become so close I shouldn't worry too much about the contract as the work is already underway.
Luckily (I think) there is a lot of online communication between us about this agreement, on WhatsApp and via email that it made me feel somewhat secure that even if she doesn't sign the contract, the terms are discussed and agreed to in someway over text and email.
I brought in a customer very early on and we spent over a year working with this customer on a deal that I structured. We built a very strong relationship with this customer and would often have late night online meetings working to finalize this deal. It was supposed to be the deal that means financial freedom for myself and my partner. I stood to make over 100k per month on the lowest estimates.
Well, we eventually signed the deal and had a good sized media splash and very expensive launch paid for by Vodacom to help us get the ball rolling. And this is where shit went South.
My partner at this stage started treating me like an employee and not a business partner in the deal. When it was time for me to add the capacity I needed to my business in order for us to deliver the numbers we needed, she objected very strongly and said that I had no right to hire anyone without her say so and that anyone I bring in would not be allowed anywhere near this project. She expected that I would carry the workload myself. When I brought up the contract that SHE herself sent, that I signed and we agreed to in multiple conversations, she claimed that her understanding of our deal was different and that I'm a consultant of her business and not a partner. When I requested that we involve a mediator she immediately shut that down and instructed me to stop all contact with the customer that I brought to her. So I did, not wanting to ruin a deal that I had worked so hard for. I thought she and I would have resolve the matter ourselves, even though I was surprised by her actions. It was like dealing with a completely different person.
Soon after our fall out, I had no choice but to go find a paying job. I had spent so much time and effort on this one deal, I had no other prospects and my family was struggling very badly at this point. We were all counting on this deal to set us free.
It's been about 15 months since I last made contact with her. This was my first time trying to legitimately run a business of my own and the journey has humbled me and made me aware just how dishonest people can be where money is concerned. This entire time I've had to funnel every cent I had towards covering some of the massive financial holes I got my family into. Luckily the sales business pays a descent salary so we are almost out of the waters.
I need advise from all you beautiful legal minds on how to proceed. I want to take this woman on. I have a lot of communication between us and there is no denying that the work on my part was done. Her contract is pretty clear too on the nature of our agreement even though she didn't signt it herself. The customer can attest to my work ethic too.
I have never dealt with lawyers before and have never had a single legal issue that required the assistance of a lawyer, so I'm stuck on where to even begin. Please assist.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is a visual stunner for Xbox even if its gameplay isn't too creative.
Eurogamer - Johnny Chiodini - 5 / 5
Hellblade 2 continues Senua's story with grace, confidence, surprising brutality and thundering conviction.
Game Informer - Marcus Stewart - 9 / 10
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II’s conclusion ends on another strong note, and despite my initial reservations about continuing Senua’s story, I walked away happy to see her conquer new monsters, both literal and metaphorical.
Game Rant - Anthony Taormina - 4 / 5
There is simply nothing else like Hellblade 2 on the market and that alone kept me enthralled the whole way through. Its pared-down elements might not be mechanically complex, but they give the story a momentum that makes it hard to put down. Ninja Theory tackles themes that are challenging and not often seen in games, with a backdrop that vacillates between the epic and the intimate. It's approach doesn't have widespread appeal, but Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is as close to an interactive movie as we’ve seen yet.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II keeps the basics intact, and while a strong lead character, great animations, and simple but enjoyable combat continue to deliver, the poor pacing and performance issues prevent this sequel from breaking free of its past.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is the best-looking game we've ever played - a true visual powerhouse backed by an emotionally charged story and gripping dark fantasy setting, if you can look past some of its shortcomings.
PC Gamer - Robin Valentine - 58 / 100
Despite its greater scale and visual splendour, this sequel fails to escape the shadow of its predecessor with a muddled tale that Senua herself feels out of place in.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is, at its core, a short game, but an excellent one. But it's not for everyone. It's a bloody and often disgusting experience based on strong emotions and immersion in a character that just won't let you go. It's more of an artistic experience than a traditional game.

Just like its forbear, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is an oppressive, powerful and haunting example of the power of video games, and one that sets its own parameters for what a digital experience can be. It is a game that must be experienced, not least because, there’s nothing else quite like it.

Hellblade 2 is one of the best games Xbox has to offer.
TrueGaming - عمر العمودي - Arabic - 8 / 10
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is a technical achievement for the gaming industry, the visuals are impressive and realistic in a way we haven't seen before and the audio design is very impressive. The game itself though, we think it could've offered more as puzzles are repetitive and combat is quite limited. However, the storytelling is strong in this chapter of Senua's journey, though it feels heavy and depressing.

A game like Senua's Saga: Hellblade II can only be the result of years of passion and talent, captivating you with its unbelievable visuals, impeccable audio design, and powerful thought-provoking narrative. It's a veritable masterpiece, but it's just shy of perfection thanks to an average PC port and some minor criticisms.
Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus - 7 / 10
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is a beautiful but ultimately hollow game. The fantastic presentation props up a story that is less personal and engaging than in the first game, and the gameplay feels like an afterthought. It was great to see Senua again and to see her outside of the grief-misery she was enveloped in during the first game, but beyond that, there's not much to Hellblade II. It's a short and less memorable experience that shows off Ninja Theory's visual craft to its fullest - but it achieves little else.
Xbox Achievements - Dan Webb - 90%
While Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 might not set any new standards with its simplistic gameplay mechanics, from an audio-visual experience standpoint, it's frankly quite a stunning experience. Hellblade 2 is as close to playing the leading role in a big budget movie as you’re likely to get, and Ninja Theory’s continued coverage on the complexities of severe mental health issues deserves to be commended once more. Bravo, Ninja Theory. Bravo.
XboxEra - Jon Clarke - 10 / 10
Despite the backing of a company as large and as well-funded as Microsoft, Ninja Theory have, in my opinion, nurtured their independent spirit and kept it well and truly alive in every facet of Senua's Saga: Hellblade II. It's brutal. It's breath-taking. It's brilliant. If this is “Independent AAA”?

2024.05.21 09:14 geopolicraticus Further Elaborations on the Coming Coeval Age

Saturday 18 May 2024
Today in Philosophy of History
Further Elaborations on the Coming Coeval Age
My essay “The Coming Coeval Age” has appeared in Isonomia Quarterly for summer 2024. Last year I contributed an essay to the initial number of the journal. As with my recent paper in the Journal of Big History, “A Complexity Ladder for Big History,” this most recent essay isn’t narrowly about philosophy of history, but there are many philosophy of history themes in it.
The journal’s interest in the theme of isonomia was my point of departure for considering the institutional structure of civilization at the largest conceivable scales. What is isonomia? There is a passage in Book III of Herodotus known as the constitutional debate in which three speakers argue for the best form of government, with these three being monarchy, oligarchy, and democracy. Here is the first of three speakers in Herodotus advocating for isonomia:
“Otanes urged that they should resign the government into the hands of the whole body of the Persians, and his words were as follows: ‘To me it seems best that no single one of us should henceforth be ruler, for that is neither pleasant nor profitable. Ye saw the insolent temper of Cambyses, to what lengths it went, and ye have had experience also of the insolence of the Magian: and how should the rule of one alone be a well-ordered thing, seeing that the monarch may do what he desires without rendering any account of his acts? Even the best of all men, if he were placed in this disposition, would be caused by it to change from his wonted disposition: for insolence is engendered in him by the good things which he possesses, and envy is implanted in man from the beginning; and having these two things, he has all vice: for he does many deeds of reckless wrong, partly moved by insolence proceeding from satiety, and partly by envy. And yet a despot at least ought to have been free from envy, seeing that he has all manner of good things. He is however naturally in just the opposite temper towards his subjects; for he grudges to the nobles that they should survive and live, but delights in the basest of citizens, and he is more ready than any other man to receive calumnies. Then of all things he is the most inconsistent; for if you express admiration of him moderately, he is offended that no very great court is paid to him, whereas if you pay court to him extravagantly, he is offended with you for being a flatterer. And the most important matter of all is that which I am about to say:—he disturbs the customs handed down from our fathers, he is a ravisher of women, and he puts men to death without trial. On the other hand the rule of many has first a name attaching to it which is the fairest of all names, that is to say “Equality”; next, the multitude does none of those things which the monarch does: offices of state are exercised by lot, and the magistrates are compelled to render account of their action: and finally all matters of deliberation are referred to the public assembly. I therefore give as my opinion that we let monarchy go and increase the power of the multitude; for in the many is contained everything’.”
The three forms of government—monarchical, oligarchical, and democratic—are a perennial theme of Greek political thought that continues to echo through the history of Western civilization. Book III of Aristotle’s Politics goes into this in some detail.
After sending my essay off to Isonomia Quarterly I realized that one of the fundamental ambiguities about the idea of isonomia—and I would have included a footnote on this if I had thought of it sooner—is the ambiguity implicit in speaking in terms of the same law. What is it that is “the same” when we speak of the same law? “The same law” could mean that every particular law would apply to every particular person, or “the same law” could mean that the totality of the law, that is, the whole body of law, applies to the totality of the population. A body of law might involve different laws that apply differently to different persons, so that the second of the two senses does not entail the first of the two senses. If you read my essay you’ll find that I argue that the Greeks understood isonomia in the latter sense, so I won’t repeat that argument or the sources I cite for it here. But the fact that we might interpret a fundamental political idea in different ways poses the question of how these fundamental ideas outlined in antiquity apply to us today, if they do apply, and how they ought to apply now and in the future.
How will these traditional ideas be interpreted in future iterations of human society that might differ quite considerably from the world that we inhabit? How are we to understand isonomia within the context of a spacefaring civilization? For that matter, how are we to understand any classical Greek political theory in the context of future changes to society? For Westerners, this is our heritage, and how this tradition adapts or is adapted to changed conditions will give shape to the ongoing tradition of Western civilization.
In my essay I suggest that, on Earth to date, the expansion of political regimes has constituted what I call synchronic isonomia, when societies are distributed synchronically, that is to say, when they interact in the present across geographical distances. In a specifically legal context, this means the iteration of a body of law across a region of space. The possibility of what Frank White calls Large-Scale Space Migration would initially constitute synchronic expansion on a scale greater than that possible on Earth, but, if continued, it would eventually cross a threshold of diachronic isonomia, that is to say, when societies are distributed diachronically over time. In a specifically legal context, again, this means the iteration of a body of law, the same law, over a period of time. The strange, seemingly paradoxical aspect of this way of thinking is that the human scale of time could be distributed over a much larger cosmological scale of time while retaining its character as distinctively human history. I will try to explain how this could come about, but first I want to point out a peculiarity of terrestrial history that we haven’t seen as a peculiarity.
We are familiar with the idea that we see the universe form a peculiar point of view because we see it from the surface of a planet. Our planetary perspective has been the focus of the Copernican revolution, which has taught us that our apparently centrality in the universe is an artifact of our limited and parochial perspective. The Copernican revolution taught us to transcend our planetary perspective and to see the universe from a non-terrestrial perspective, but there is another aspect of the Copernican revolution that we haven’t yet explored, and that is seeing history from a non-terrestrial perspective. Part of this non-terrestrial perspective is simply to understand that, just as we are not in the center of space, we are also not in the center of time. But there’s more to it than this.
Einstein’s theory of relativity has made it possible for us to see time in a new way, and this can change the way we see history. In many of my episodes I have talked about the need to address the disconnect between philosophies of time and philosophies of history. History is constructed out of time, so a radical reconceptualization of time suggests a radical reconceptualization of history. The theory of relativity is such a radical reconceptualization of time, but many of the influences of relativity and gravity upon time are usually not noticed on a terrestrial scale, and all human history to date has occurred on terrestrial scale.
We can see the effects of relativity when we look out into the cosmos and use instruments to observe cosmological distances over which relatively is relevant, and to observe bodies so dense that they change the structure of spacetime. To date, our technologies have allowed us to measure the relativity of time under the influence of acceleration and gravitation, but we may, at some point in our history, develop technologies that allow us to interact with the universe at a scale at which relativity will change our history. When this eventuality comes to pass, we will eventually be forced to notice things about our history that hadn’t previously been problematic.
Our history to date has been the simplest possible history because it has all transpired on Earth. Earth is our sole inertial frame of reference for all historical events. There are relativistic effects within this inertial frame of reference, but they can only be detected by instruments of extreme precision because the influence of relativity lies below the threshold of human perception. For example, every planet drags its spacetime around with it as it rotates, which is known as frame-dragging. And even the relatively crude instruments of the nineteenth century could detect the perihelion precession of Mercury, which is an observable relativistic perturbation of the orbit of Mercury. This was first observed and noted to diverge from Newtonian predictions in 1859. These relativistic effects are, however, well below the threshold of impacting human history.
Technologies could change this. Relativistic space travel would be such a technology. This has been made famous by the so-called “twins paradox.” The twins paradox is invoked with greatest effect by the use of individuals to illustrate the difference between two clocks in different inertial frames of reference—usually a set of twins. This was called a paradox because it was initially thought to be impossible. We also saw this use of individuals to demonstrate the poignancy of time dilation in the film Interstellar. Here it is a father and daughter who are separated, with the father experiencing an accelerated inertial frame of reference, so that he returns, still a young man, to find his daughter dying as an old woman. This is great for drama, but this isn’t how any relativistic space settlement effort is going to play out, unless someone purposefully arranges something like this as a stunt.
Let us consider a simple example of what is more likely to occur. Suppose a settlement on another world established by several thousands of individuals, maybe tens or hundreds of thousands, like a small city, who travel to another planetary system, tens or hundreds or thousands of light years from Earth. The passengers on the starship in their accelerated inertial framework will experience time dilation, and they will preserve the cultural milieu of Earth has it was upon their launch. When they establish their settlement, there will be two human histories that bifurcate at the point in time when the interstellar settlement initiative was inaugurated.
However, the larger population on Earth will continue to drive cultural evolution at a far faster rate than in the settlement, while, in the settlement, human beings will be subjected to radically different selection pressures than prevailed on Earth, and they will also be a small community likely to retain the cultural milieu they possessed when they left Earth. We would then have two human histories, offset in time by the discontinuity of the relativistic travel time from Earth to the location of the settlement. For example, if the Earth and the settlement are a hundred light years apart, there would be a temporal discontinuity of a century. Life would go on at Earth, and a century later things would be different, but a century later the settlement would just be founded on the basis of Earth’s culture of a century before. This is a kind of historical complexity that we do not have today, but which could happen in the future.
Now imagine not one settlement, but a hundred or a thousand such settlements, each representing a temporal discontinuity from Earth’s history. A hundred settlements of ten thousand persons each would be an effort involving only a million persons, which is a very small proportion of the total human population; Earth wouldn’t even notice the absence of a million persons. Further, imagine travel among these settlements by relativistic spacecraft, and then the history of those who travel between settlements will be even more complex. In this context, depending upon the location of settlements relative to each other, and the date at which the settlement initiative was undertaken, an individual could effectively time travel into the past by traveling outward from Earth to a settlement that preserves the historical milieu at Earth at the time of its departure. You could not return to Earth without finding yourself accelerated into the future, but you could travel further outward to a settlement established from earlier in Earth’s history.
We get a similar, if slower result, if we substitute sub-relativistic spacecraft in conjunction with artificially induced torpor or hibernation—space arks, if you will. A slow boat to the stars would likewise preserve the culture of Earth from the time of its departure, with settlers being roused and resuming their lives once they reached the end of their journey, effectively cut off from a return to their familiar terrestrial milieu, but they would be able to visit other historical peer milieux if they take another slow boat further out into the cosmos.
The kind of distributed temporality that I am describing would achieve its greatest extent, and its greatest historical complexity, in the case of interstellar expansion. However, something similar could be realized on Earth at a smaller scale. Imagine a large scale hibernation project on Earth, such that about 10,000 persons are involved, enough so that there could be a rotating crew of a dozen or so that stays awake to tend the rest to make sure this continues to operate as intended. At some appointed time in the future, the whole community could be brought out of their hibernation and they would bring with them the culture of Earth from their date when they entered into hibernation, now displaced into the future. This would make it possible for temporally distributed communities to appear on Earth, without travel to other worlds or the use of relativistic technology. There are several science fiction stories with something like this as their approximate premise.
Whether through relativistic travel or human hibernation, historical communities could be preserved from all eras into some indefinite future, and in that indefinite future, these distinct historical communities would be synchronically present. This is what I call coevalism, when all ages of history are equally accessible. The idea of coevalism occurred to me many years ago, and not in connection with relativistic travel; I was thinking about the increasing fidelity of recording technologies. Written language is the most rudimentary form of recording technology, and is allows us the most rudimentary form of time travel, by being able to share the thoughts of those long dead. Since the industrial revolution, technologies have become much more sophisticated, with photographs, film, and sound recordings, with always-increasing fidelity to the original.
The rapid growth of computer technology and telecommunications in recent decades has made us aware that, if this arc of technological development continues, we will have nearly-perfect fidelity recordings. But in addition to recordings, we could generate states-of-affairs that never existed in fact, as in fantasy and science fiction, or we could generate the milieux of the past, both with a degree of fidelity equal to that of the present. Computers are already sufficiently sophisticated to generate simple films, and the reconstruction of past milieux can be done without computers as well.
In the original Westworld film on 1973, a past milieu was re-created using robots. Robotics hasn’t yet achieved this level of realism, but we could do this today with human actors, and we may yet do so someday with robots. In fact, we do this in a limited way. Theme parks re-create fantasy worlds populated with actors who make fantasy characters come to life. So coevalism can be realized at smaller scales than sparefaring civilizations, but it would be in a spacefaring civilizations with relativistic space travel in which the possibilities of coevalism would come to their fullest expression, and in which history would achieve its greatest complexity.
History is already extraordinarily complex, but I said earlier than our terrestrial history is the simplest history possible given the spacetime structure of the universe. It is when we begin distributing our civilization in cosmological time that historical complexity will cease to be a single linear continuum. The possibilities of spacefaring histories will be both facilitated and limited by our technology. These possibilities will also be facilitated and limited by the actual spacetime structure of the universe, which is a function of the distribution of matter in the universe. Just as terrestrial history has been shaped by oceans, mountain ranges, and rivers, cosmological history is shaped by stars, gravitation, and expansion, and human history that takes place within this cosmological context will be shaped by these forces. The point I want to make is that, while human history is complex, we are not necessarily limited by the complexity of the single inertial frame of reference of our homeworld.
When multiple inertial frames of reference are available to us, and travel between then is possible, the possible structures of history will dramatically expand, and with these possibilities human experience will dramatically expand, and I hope you can see how this can give a whole new meaning to the idea of speculative philosophy of history. In the conventional distinction between analytical philosophy of history and substantive philosophy of history, analytical philosophy of history is, according to Danto, “…philosophy applied to the special conceptual problems which arise out of the practice of history,” while substantive philosophy of history is a philosophical account of the historical process itself. This same distinction has also been called the distinction between critical and speculative philosophy of history by William Dray, and the distinction between formal and material philosophy of history by Maurice Mandelbaum. Here I emphasize speculative philosophy of history as that which reflects uon the actual historical process.
In addition to the speculative philosophy of history that considers the historical process, we can also imagine a speculative philosophy of history that concerns itself with the implications of speculative states-of-affairs upon history yet to come—historical processes not yet realized, but which may be realized someday. Many of the speculative states-of-affairs I can imagine involve human exploration and expansion into the cosmos. The speculative states-of-affairs we might encounter in the wider universe could involve scientific discoveries not yet made and technologies not yet constructed, the histories of life on other worlds and the histories of alien civilizations, as well as the histories that we will create for ourselves. It’s a big universe, and we might discover any number of unlikely or unprecedented existents.
In my episode on a complexity ladder for big history I argued that there may be distinctive emergents from historical knowledge, that is to say, the quantitative growth of historical knowledge may pass a threshold to become a qualitative change in historical understanding. What kind of emergents could these be? For example, an increase in the knowledge of our own history can change our understanding of ourselves. We are seeing this with the use of the genetic record to reconstruct the sequence by which human beings distributed themselves across Earth. In this way, epistemic emergents reshape our past and our understanding of ourselves.
In addition to these emergents from knowledge of our past, there may yet come emergents that arise from a temporally distributed civilization and the advent of coevalism. A temporally distributed civilization could also give rise to emergents in historical knowledge. The dawning realization of epistemic emergents yet to come in the future will shape our conception of what we can become (in contradistinction to increased knowledge of the past shaping what we are), reshaping our future, and we will need these epistemic emergents from a history of a greater order of complexity so as to understand the more complex world coming into being, and which our descendants will inhabit. Without these epistemic emergents we would not be able to understand the more complex world arising out of these novel technologies and the world they will bring into being. The future of philosophy of history has never been brighter, as we see that it will come to grappled with ever-larger and more complex problems.

2024.05.21 09:11 adr826 The book of Shadows

2024.05.21 08:55 Ancient-Cat-3774 Is it just me, or is learning programming freaking HARD???

I don't even know how to explain my problems, because there are SOO MANY of them. Is it just me, or is learning to program just HARD AF?
I guess to start, there are just SO MANY things that are completely foreign to me, such as what does "environment" mean? i always considered environment to mean my os, such as windows. but i feel like that's totally wrong here. i downloaded vscode, thinking "ok, this might be a good way to start", but i'm just completely overwhelmed with all of the options and things that it looks like i need to set up!
I've wanted to learn to program for years, but i've just never had the time. now i have the time, and it feels impossible. what's worse (to me) is that i consider myself someone who is bordering on an expert when it comes to operating a windows computer. i have little to no experience with linux however, but I didn't think that would matter, as I've read I can program in python with windows.
so I enrolled in a course through edx.org that is supposed to teach python programming, and they suggest either using a "programming text editor" in one section, but another section says you can just use notepad++. it also suggests vscode as one option, or "brackets" as another. but looking at these different programs, it feels like the functionality is VASTLY different. why would i want to just use notepad++, when from my point of view, it has absolutely no programming-specific functionality! i also tried downloading PyCharm, and that too is just so damn complicated, so many settings and options that I have ZERO understanding of!!
am i just WAY overcomplicating things, and should i just jump into the course on edx.org and go from there??
(by the way, i am rather autistic, and my brain works... differently i guess. i struggle to "get past" something when I feel I don't properly understand it, which is why i'm struggling here. i feel like just jumping into the course will leave me with countless questions as I go through it, and I feel like i should probably understand setting up my coding "environment" properly, so that it's not going to present barriers to me as I go. but again, maybe i'm just way overcomplicating things here.)
partly i'm posting this to vent, hope that's ok, but also posting this because i would love some direction on a legitimately GOOD place to start learning python programming. as mentioned, i do have pretty extensive experience operating windows computers, setting them up, i understand some of the basics of batch files etc, as I began using computers when DOS was still a thing. but my life took me places where I basically have a big gap where I didn't much use computers at all, between about 2001 and 2023, and it feels like that gap of time just destroyed me.
if it isn't cool i posted this, just delete it. i just figured this would be a good place to ask for direction/help.

2024.05.21 08:24 PaleontologistSad259 Fixing the cheated scores on the leaderboard

I've noticed that every singular minigame leaderboard is filled of maximum high scores, which are all most likely cheated (who's sane enough to play Sky Hop until they reach 1499 points?) leaving no room for real, legitimate players who have impressive scores. I personally came up with 2 fixes. FIX 1 (appliable server-side and client-side): Increase the scorecap of every minigame to a level a human cannot reach, and automatically delete any uploaded highscore that reaches anywhere near the normally unreachable cap. FIX 2 (appliable client-side): Add a new detection system. When uploading a highscore to the leaderboard, take the gamefiles and pass it through a hash generator, then compare it to a hash from unmodified gamefiles. If it matches, upload the highscore to the leaderboard. If it doesn't match, don't upload it.
These 2 fixes could be added both at once to have increased security. The code for the 2nd fix should also be obfuscated to prevent modders from bypassing the hash detection (thus allowing hacked scores in)
And here's a few small little suggestions for the leaderboards 1 . Expand the size of the list 2 . A search function to lookup users, see where they rank and what their score is 3 . Filter options (Maximum and minimum score, only friends, etc.)
That's it!

Best Online Casino Bonuses

There are dozens of real money online casinos in the US, and that means that competition for customers can be fierce. But that’s very good news for you as operators will offer a wide range of casino bonuses and promotions.
We’ve gone ahead and listed the most common of these bonuses offered by the best online real money casinos.

Welcome Bonuses

The vast majority of real money online casinos will offer a welcome bonus to all new users. This will see you earn bonus credit or bonus funds for simply signing up and making a deposit. You can then use the bonus credit to play real money casino games. Just bear in mind that you may need to make a minimum deposit before you can grab the bonus.

Deposit Bonuses

A deposit bonus is when real money casinos will match a deposit by a certain percentage. For example, if you get a 100% deposit match bonus on a $100 deposit, you will receive an additional $100 in bonus credit. This can then be used to play real money casino games, but you will have to meet some wagering requirements before you can cash out your bonus funds.

No Deposit Bonuses

No deposit bonuses are available at some real money online casinos but not all. These promotions are the best value as they don’t require you to make any deposit using your own cash. This gives you the chance to test drive an online casino to see if it’s what you’re looking for. These bonuses also have wagering requirements you will have to meet before you can withdraw your winnings.

Free Spins

Free spin bonuses are exactly what they sound like. They offer you free spins on specific slots titles. The idea here is to promote games from a certain provider or introduce new slots. Like the no deposit bonus, this is a great way to try out a game before using your own cash.

Reload Bonuses

A reload bonus is very similar to a deposit match bonus and quite common at real money online casinos. You make a deposit and the casino will match it by a certain percentage. These promotions are run on a regular basis with some of the best online casinos for real money offering them every week.

Bonus Terms and Conditions

Bonuses and promotions at real money online casinos in the USA have terms and conditions that can have an impact on the value of the bonus. That’s why you should read those Ts and Cs carefully and know exactly what they mean. Here are a few terms you’ll come across.
Wagering Requirements
Wagering requirements at real money online casinos can also be referred to as ‘playthrough’ or ‘rollover’. This is listed as a multiple and simply tells you the number of times you need to wager the bonus amount before you can withdraw it as cash.
So say you have a bonus wagering requirement of 25x on a bonus amount of $100. This means that you will need to place wagers totaling $2,500 (25 x $10) before you can withdraw the bonus as cash. This is possibly the most important thing to look out for on a promotion because a high wagering requirement on a high-value bonus might be hard to hit.
Time Limits / Expiry
There are two types of time limits – the time you have to take up the offer and the time you have to use your bonus funds and hit those wagering requirements. The first one is simple enough. Once you sign up at a real money casino, you’ll have anything from a few days up to a month to take up your welcome bonus offer.
The second one can be a bit trickier. US online casinos will set a time limit on your offer and you have to use your bonus and hit the wagering requirement before that time is up. If you don’t make it , you could lose any unused bonus credit.
Minimum Deposits
This is a very basic condition of any real money online casino promo when there is a deposit involved. The minimum deposit, as you may have guessed already, is the least amount of money you can deposit to activate the bonus.
Now here’s the thing – a minimum deposit for a promotion may be higher than the regular minimum at a casino. And in some cases, the minimum deposit amount may change if it’s a bonus made up of several smaller bonuses. For example, a deposit match and free spins bonus over two deposits might require a minimum of $20 for the first deposit and $50 for the second deposit to unlock the free spins.
Winning Limits
Real money online casinos will pretty much give you free money just to get you playing their games. But there’s only so much free money they can hand out. So understandably, they put a limit on how much you can win using your bonus cash.
It’s not a condition that you need to worry about too much though. After all, a bonus is free money, right? But just remember that you won’t win any massive progressive jackpots with that bonus cash.
Game Eligibility
Remember what we said about wagering requirements? Well, not all games contribute towards those requirements. Promotions tend to exclude some games like roulette so check the Ts and Cs.
Games that are eligible will contribute towards your requirement at different rates. For example, slots may have a rate of 100% while the rate for table games could be 50%. This means that if you play $100 on the slots then $100 is taken off your wagering requirement. If you play $100 on a table game, then only $50 counts towards the requirement.
Restrictions
This is a little different to games eligibility because it has nothing to do with your wagering requirement. To put it simply, these are games that you cannot use your bonus funds on.
Even the best online casinos may restrict bonus use for games like live dealer games or any games that have large prizes such as progressive jackpots. You may also be restricted from entering contests using your bonus.

Best Online Casino Games

One of the benefits of playing at a top real money online casino in the US is that you get access to hundreds of games as soon as you sign up. With instant play online casinos, you don’t have to download any additional software to start playing. Simply go to the site and you’re all set. And the best online casinos might even offer many of these games in demo mode for you to try out.

Slots

Slots are one of the most popular real money online casino games. You can spin the reels to hit winning combinations called paylines, unlock bonus features and win real money. But it’s not just about matching a few symbols, there are often multiple ways to win. Slots with the Megaways mechanic can have thousands of paylines.
Real money slots also come in a massive range of themes and styles covering everything from safari themes to ancient Egypt and even rock bands. And don’t be surprised if there are hundreds or even thousands to choose from at the best online casinos.

Progressive Jackpots

A progressive jackpot is a type of prize that you’ll find in some slot titles. These jackpots grow with each and every wager that is placed on the game. The most popular jackpot slots pool wagers from players all over the world and not just the casino itself.
The biggest progressive jackpots at online casinos for real money can sometimes reach millions of dollars. In fact , the largest progressive jackpot win of all time was $23.6 million won by a player in Belgium in 2021. The jackpot was won on the Absolutely Mad variant of Mega Moolah.

Roulette

Online roulette brings this ever-popular table game into the world of online casinos. Pick a number or color and place your bet. Then wait to see if the ball lands on your pick. It’s one of the simplest games to pick up but there are actually a few variants that you can choose from.
The best online casinos will have American, European, and French roulette variants. Some real money online casinos will even offer multi-wheel roulette where you can bet on two or three wheels at a time. Unsurprisingly, roulette is also hugely popular in live casinos.

Blackjack

Blackjack is a classic casino card game where you try to beat the dealer by getting as close to 21 as possible. While the game is simple enough with a straight bet on your hand, there are plenty of side bets to bring a little more action to the table. For example, you can bet on the Lucky Ladies – betting that your first two cards total 20.
You can play virtual blackjack at your own pace at all of the best online casinos. But if you prefer a more traditional style of play, then you can also try your hand at live dealer blackjack.

Video Poker

Most video poker casinos will offer a range of poker variants that combine skill of poker with the excitement of slot machines. It’s based on five card draw and you need to match one of several winning hands by changing or keeping the cards you are dealt. Bets are placed at the start of the game.
Each variant comes with its own set of rules and payout structures that can vary quite a bit. As you can imagine, you’ll need to have some basic poker skills to master this game. It’s also not a bad idea to follow some video poker strategies to improve your odds of winning.

Baccarat

Baccarat is a hugely popular game in land-based casinos, but not quite so popular at online casinos for real money. The goal of the game is to have a hand value closest to nine. You have a few baccarat strategies to choose from such as betting on your own hand, the banker’s hand, or a tie.
The game is available at most of the best real money casinos online in a virtual format. But it’s the live casinos where you’ll find the real action. Live tables are

Live Dealer Games

You can feel like you’re stepping onto the casino floor when you play at live dealer casinos. These casinos offer live streams of table games with professional dealers. All the games have the exact same rules as those you’d find at land-based casinos and you can even communicate with the dealer via chat.
Table games like blackjack, baccarat, and roulette are the most popular games. But in recent times, the gameshow has risen to the top with innovative games like Deal or No Deal and, believe it or not, Monopoly.

Best US Online Casino Payment Methods

Any online casino with real money games should have a solid set of payment options to choose from. Below, we’ve listed the most common.

Credit Cards

Credit cards are widely accepted at the best USA online casinos. They provide a safe, secure, and fast method for deposits, and as most people already have one, they’re super convenient. Withdrawals are a different matter though as very few casinos will payout to a credit card.
It’s also worth noting that some banks may decline transactions to real money online casinos for legal reasons. For example, if gambling is restricted in your state, the bank may decline your request. There may also be fees charged when funding your online casino account.

Debit Cards

As you may know already, debit cards offer exactly the same convenience, speed, and security as credit cards. They’re also accepted by practically all real money US online casinos. And much like credit cards, many casinos don’t offer debit card withdrawals.
One big benefit of debit cards over credit cards is that there are no legal restrictions on the use of debit cards to fund gambling accounts.

eWallets

A hugely popular payment method for real money online casinos in the US, eWallets offer fast transactions with great security features. They also provide an additional layer of privacy, as your bank or credit card information isn’t shared with the online casino. However, there may be fees associated with eWallet transactions, and some online casinos may not accept certain eWallets.
Popular eWallets include PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Interestingly, the online casino industry is slowly starting to move away from older eWallets like PayPal. Even so, there are still some great casinos that accept PayPal.

Cryptocurrencies

Many of the top real money online casinos in the US now accept major cryptocurrencies for both deposits and withdrawals. These digital currencies offer some of the best security features of any payment method, and yes, that includes credit cards.
Cryptocurrency casinos let you deposit and withdraw funds with very low fees and in some cases, no fees at all. Transactions are highly secure as you don’t need to share your banking details and extremely fast. Some crypto withdrawals can be processed in hours or even minutes.
The best online casinos will accept offer a variety of crypto options including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and more. If you don’t have any crypto, casinos like TG.Casino offer you the chance to buy some using your traditional methods like debit or credit card.

Checks

The best online casinos for real money offer the complete range of payment options and, believe it or not, that includes old-school paper checks. Just pick ‘cash by check’ and the casino will send your winnings by mail.
The only drawback here is that it’s quite slow. In fact, withdrawals can take several days or even weeks. It’s all down to how fast your mail provider is and how quickly your bank can clear the check. Still a good option to have though just in case.

Wire transfers

Wire transfers are another tried and trusted method for secure and reliable deposits and withdrawals at US online casinos for real money. This is a simple transfer made directly from your bank account to the casino’s account and vice versa.
This type of transfer is very secure as your bank handles the entire process, but it takes time and can be a little on the expensive side. There may also be limits on how much you can transfer to and from your account so check with your bank first.

Tips for Real Money Online Casino Gambling

With everything you’ve read so far, picking the best online casino for real money should be pretty straightforward. But if you’re new to the online casino industry, then you might want to learn a few things about how to gamble online before you place those first wagers. Below, we’ve listed just a few of our favorite tips to get you started.

Pick a Trusted Online Casino

And by trusted we mean one that has a rock solid reputation for customer support and satisfaction. You can do this by reading reviews by people who have taken the time to actually play at casinos online for real money. That’s exactly what we do here, so picking from our recommendations is a no-brainer.

Use those Online Casino Bonus Offers

There’s great value to be found through online casino promotions whether it’s a no deposit promotion or a deposit match. Whatever is on offer, take advantage of it to give your bankroll a nice bump before you play any real money casino games.

Sign-up with More than One Online Casino

Yep, there’s absolutely nothing stopping you from signing up with five or six real money casinos. This means that you can take advantage of all those welcome bonuses and promotions. You also have a better chance of finding the best real money casino games as you have thousands of games to choose from.

Look for Mobile Online Casinos

Common sense when you think about it because we spend more time on our mobile devices each day. The best online casinos will have either a mobile app or they will be fully optimized for mobile devices. Either way, this is an absolute must.

Manage Your Bankroll

This is perhaps the most important tip of all as gambling responsibly is how you can continue to have fun day in day out. Managing your bankroll is about setting a budget and sticking to it. It’s also about finding and taking advantage of any promotions that save you spending too much of your own cash.

Responsible Gaming at Online Casinos

The best online casinos take responsible gaming very seriously and will offer help and resources if you need them. This includes things like the ability to set limits on your deposits or gaming. Many will also provide tips and guidance on spotting the early signs of problem gambling.
Online casinos try their best to help, but the best advice for anyone who needs support can be found at organizations like:

Are Online Casinos Legal in the US?

The US online casino industry first became regulated when Delaware legalized online casinos in 2012. New Jersey came soon after and both states launched regulated online casinos in 2013. At present, there are seven states that have regulated online casino markets – Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and West Virginia.

I am not the OOP. The OOP is u/ThrowRAtricionera posting in TrueOffMyChest

My sister slept with my boyfriend and I sent her a really cruel message that I don't regret at all

My sister slept with my boyfriend and I sent her a really cruel message that I don't regret at all Sorry but this post will have A LOT of bad energy and I'm terrible at writing in English so If anyone is going to read the post, I'm sorry for all the grammatical errors that are likely to be in the post. :P
So a few days ago I (F25) found out that my sister (24f) has been sleeping with my boyfriend (now ex, 25m. We dated for three years) for one year or probably more.
They always had a close relationship but I obviously took it as something innocent, I don't like video games but my sister does so they talked a lot by text and I thought it was about games they like until I found out that no, they talked a lot about their secret dates while I was working and in college, I found pictures, videos and a lot of other disgusting things in the chats between my ex and my sister.
My pathetic sister found pleasure in asking my pathetic ex all the time if she's smarter or prettier than me, she even compared our private parts, wth (We're both pretty, she's actually thinner and prettier than me and even if she's an introvert she has her group of friends so I really don't understand where she got so much venom towards me, our parents never compared us or anything like that and she was always the one asking my ex to compare both of us in the chats.)
The first thing I did was throw all my ex-boyfriend's things out of the apartment, I insulted him in a thousand ways and I kept the PC that I gave him for Christmas.
I didn't speak a single word to my sister for over a week and she didn't contacted me like the coward she is until yesterday when she sent me a message trying to justify herself by saying that it was a mistake (Yes, a mistake that lasted more than a year) and that I should forgive her because we're sisters and blah blah blah at one point I thought "Should I be the mature person in the situation who doesn't let resentment speak for her?" but then I realized that I've never been that kind of person. I took my phone and wrote a long message to my sister that I would love to write here but I am sure that I would break the rules since I called her out in every possible way and I wrote a lot of personal things too, I told her how much of a failure she is and how she has always envied me and that's why she needed to feel what it's like to be me for a second of her sad life.
She sent me a voice massage crying and saying that she's in a very weak moment mentally (but she's still with him, lmao) and I shouldn't make her feel worse and that she regrets it, I just reacted to her message with this emoji 😂 and didn't even heard the long voice message until the end.
Was it a low thing to attack her with all her flaws? Yes, but it's lower to betray your sister and believe that she's going to forgive you just because you share blood with her.
Honestly, I feel really good after sending her that message and feel that it was Therapeutic to take out everything I feel to give closure to that.
Btw I've never used a PC for gaming but I'm looking for tutorials on YouTube about how to download the SIMS.
I helped my sister in every moment of her life, I literally fought for her when she was being bullied during High school, I helped her thousands of times to make friends, I even accompanied her everywhere she wanted, it is a betrayal that really hurts and I will never forgive, never. It hurts me that she slept with someone I loved, but it hurts me a lot all the things I read in those chats, how she enjoyed watching him compare me to her or how she asked him about personal things about our relationship just to laugh at it. She's dead to me and my parents knows it.
I don't even care if I'm a bad person like them, this is something I can't forgive and I don't even feel bad for my reaction.

At least your ex showed he was a POS before you got married so now you have the opportunity to find someone who actually appreciates you, sounds like an upgrade if you ask me.
OOP: To be honest the relationship was already going bad in some ways (although that doesn't justify what he did) so I don't feel too bad for breaking up, I took out the trash

MyUsernameIsMehh
Going bad is still never an excuse to cheat. If e had the slightest bit of respect for you as a human being then he would just break up
Good riddance.
People often say "how you lose them is how you got them" so I wouldn't be surprised if she came crying to you one day about him cheating on her

Ithink-imoverit2405
Good for you. Perpetrator only makes themselves a victim when they wanted to. Please inform your parents of the event to not let her play victim more and throw you under the bus and back the bus to hit you more times.
OOP: Thanks! They already know everything. Neither of them are on her side and they respect that I want to cut off all contact with my sister. My parents are really strict so I think they're going to cut contact with her too but that's their decision, I don't want to get into that and cause problems

The message - same day

Thank you for all the nice comments you left me! Many wrote to me with tips for the sims and I'm really grateful, thanks for the game recommendations even though I'm really bad at playing action game, The last action game I played was Resident Evil 4 on the PS2 long time ago and it was because I had a crush with Leon Kennedy (he would never cheat on me btw).
As a token of appreciation (And because I also like it when the op uploads the whole gossip), I will put here half of the message I sent to my sister.
The message I sent her was really long and I cut out the parts where I talk about very private things or when I insulted her to not make the post too uncomfortable because I was really hurt and angry at that moment and I talked about many personal things in the text. I will put the copy of the message in the end if someone talks Spanish. I'm sorry if it sounds weird in English, I did my best to translate it and I had to remove a lot of parts.
"I'm not interested in hearing any of your excuses, I believed you when a problem she had with her ex-friend group happened because I really trusted that you would never do something like that but now I understand why everyone leaves you alone and you deserve it.
What you did to me is a shit and you know it but you didn't care because you spent a year being the whore of ex name without any shame and now that I found out everything you went days without talking to me because you are a coward and on top of that you still don't care about what you did to me, You're only talking to me because Dad probably stopped talking to you and you're running out of money, so you want to fix this shit so he gives you money again.
You were always an asshole but don't you think it's a lot to be my boyfriend's second woman? How little respect do you have for yourself? We're sisters, I don't even know what's going on in your head because I don't understand what's wrong with you. Girl, I read all the messages between you and you even started comparing our bodies, YOU'RE SICK.
You know that I never did anything for you to do this to me and I loved you. But everything turned out really well for you because he's with you so enjoy that feeling and the love you two have for the other for now because you are going to be really lonely later and you are going to go back to your cave but this time I am not going to be there to pity you like every time I did before.
Stay with him, there's nothing that interests me less than fighting for an idiot who is surely going to leave you but let me make it clear to you that you're not going to hear about me again, this dies here, we are not sister's anymore. If I see you on the street then I'm going to cross to the opposite sidewalk to not see you."
Tan poco respeto te tenés a vos misma?
Edit: Yes, I'm from Argentina :)

Update - 3 months later

They broke up nobody's surprised
When all of this happened my parents scolded my sister and she got offended and didn't speak to our parents except to ask them for money, she asked them for money to buy things for her career but then my aunt told my parents that my sister actually used that money to buy my ex some sneakers.
My parents never gave her any money from that day on, she's an idiot tbh. My parents started to pay for us to go to a private college and the only thing we have to do is literally STUDY, The only thing she had to do was take her studies seriously but she didn't, so my father got tired and hasn't sent her money for months.
My ex discovered the post because he said it went viral in Facebook and obviously he recognized the story, he contacted me to apologize and said he knows he did wrong by hurting me like that but my sister 'manipulated him' and it was a total mistake, I told him he can shove his apologies in the ass. Meanwhile, my sister and I have only crossed paths a few times, but she always avoids me because she thinks I'm going to hit her (I won't). We're not going to the same career so we luckily don't see each other too much
Anyway, a few days ago she went to our parents' house saying that she broke up with my ex (idk why) And that she felt really sad and had an anxiety attack, I don't know exactly what they talked about since I wasn't there but my mother told me that she told my sister that she knew what was going to happen when she slept with him and my sister justified herself by saying that 'They're in love' so my mother and her just argued again and my sister left. Now she doesn't talk to anyone in the family except our grandmother to ask for money, I know my sister is not going to change her bad habits and she didn't learn anything from this, I even think she will get together with my ex again because they're just toxic with each other but it's her life to ruin, not mine and I don't care anymore.
The bright side: I sold the pc to a guy from reddit that saw my post and that really saved me from having to keep paying the dues, unfortunately I didn't get to play The Sims much but I prefer the extra money. My ex had told me that he wanted the pc back but I told him that then he should pay the remaining dues AND HE SAID NO, so the idiot wanted the pc for free even though he slept with my sister. 🥴
The weird side: There are YouTubers who are literally charging their subscribers to read the post or other reddit posts in their podcast, tf, at least give me a share of the profits.
I'm know it's a boring update and probably everyone wanted that the update was my sister begging for forgiveness and my ex suffering but no, they are just two idiots who deserve each other and nothing more happened but even today I received a message asking me for an update, haha.

Hey everybody, I would like help as my computer, In Windows 10, allow me to log in and will continually give me a blue screen.
The stop code is "bad _system_config_info"
I've tried resetting this computer, It will not allow me to do so, It gives me "unable to download" at the end when using a cloud download and " additional free space is needed on the drive where Windows is installed. Free up some space and try again" when I tried to do a local reinstall (I'm unable to free up space because I can't log into the computer)
Start-up repair doesn't work I can't boot into safe mode I have no system to restore to
Anything I find online for command prompts has also not worked.
The only thing that I haven't tried is doing something with hardware but that's because I have zero expertise in that field.
I'm using a pre-built PC "Lenovo Legion Tower"

2024.05.21 07:30 vrid_in 8 crucial lessons from Jim Simons that can change your life and personal finance

224th issue of Vrid Newsletter is here.
Imagine a mathematician so brilliant that he cracked codes for the National Security Agency (NSA), revolutionised the world of academia, and then went on to become one of the most successful hedge fund managers in history.
Meet Jim Simons, a man whose life reads like a blend of a thrilling spy novel, an academic genius tale, and a financial success story.
Jim Simons is not your typical Wall Street titan. He started his career solving mathematical puzzles and teaching at prestigious universities. But it was his unexpected leap into the world of finance that truly set him apart.
Simons founded Renaissance Technologies, a hedge fund that uses complex mathematical models and algorithms to beat the market consistently. Under his leadership, Renaissance’s flagship Medallion Fund achieved returns so spectacular that they became legendary, averaging annual gains of over 62% from 1988 to 2021.
What makes Jim Simons' story so fascinating is not just his financial success, but the unconventional path he took to get there and the principles he followed along the way.
Unfortunately, he passed away on 10th May 2024.
So, join us as we delve into the extraordinary life of the late Jim Simons and uncover the invaluable lessons he has to offer. Whether you're an aspiring investor or a curious learner, the insights from Simons' life can guide you towards a path of success and fulfilment.

Lesson #1: Embrace the Power of Knowledge and Curiosity

Simons wasn't born with a silver spoon. In fact, his dad, a salesman, instilled in him the importance of "salesmanship," which in simpler terms means being able to explain complex things clearly. This focus on knowledge became Simons' superpower.
He aced math, dove deep into code-breaking during the Vietnam War, and eventually became a world-renowned mathematician.
Knowledge is king! Whether it's understanding basic personal finance concepts like compound interest or researching different investment options, the more you know, the better equipped you are to make informed decisions with your money.
Start small. Pick a personal finance topic that interests you and spend 15 minutes a day learning about it. There are a plethora of free online resources, books, and even podcasts in various languages to help you get started!

Lesson #2: Develop a System

Jim Simons didn’t achieve legendary status by relying on gut feelings or market whims. Instead, he developed a sophisticated, data-driven system that guided his investment decisions. This system was built on rigorous mathematical models and algorithms, allowing his hedge fund to predict and exploit market inefficiencies with remarkable accuracy.
You should develop a personal finance system that works for you. This could involve creating a budget, setting up automatic transfers for savings and investments, and diversifying your portfolio based on your risk tolerance and goals.
There's no one-size-fits-all system. Research different budgeting methods and investment strategies. Use online tools or consult a financial advisor to create a plan that automates your finances and takes the guesswork out of managing your money.
Our app Vrid can help you track your expenses, investments, and savings. The app can provide you with a clear picture of your financial health and help you make informed decisions. For instance, tracking your spending habits can reveal areas where you can cut costs and save more.

Lesson #3: Hire Smart, Delegate, and Get Out of the Way!

Simons wasn't the one writing the complex algorithms at Renaissance. He assembled a team of brainiacs – physicists, mathematicians, computer scientists – and built a system that used complex algorithms to identify patterns in the market.
He empowered them, gave them the freedom to experiment, and most importantly, trusted their judgement. This focus on building a strong team was a key ingredient in his success.
Now, when it comes to your personal finance journey, you don't have to be a one-man army. If you're overwhelmed with managing your investments, consider seeking professional advice from a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA).
Research and interview different RIAs before choosing one. Ensure they are qualified, understand your risk tolerance, and have a clear fee structure. Read here to check out the steps to find the best RIA for you.
