[Windows][90s/2000s] Female protagonist "trapped" in an castle on an island

2024.05.14 12:04 D_Lina [Windows][90s/2000s] Female protagonist "trapped" in an castle on an island

Sorry but engliss it's not my first language, so if something it's unclear or need to be better understable please just tell me.
Platform(s): windows
Genre: adventure/puzzle/action, maybe also horror? didn't played enough to know for sure.
Estimated year of release:
-no idea, but not more than 2010.
-More specific it could be between 90's and 2005.
Graphics/art style: -2nd or 3nd, I think it was like old resident evil with the scenario that moved when the character goes to the edge of the screen. -A little dark, the level I played was in a castle but I don't think it was ambiented in medieval era.
-Almost sure it was 3D
Notable characters:
-female protagonist, probably black haired or brown, almost not blonde. -maybe a mage that acted like narrator that gives you the mission? but I don't remember if it dissapeared after or if you could talk with him later.
Notable gameplay mechanics: -In the castle I think a mage? or a voice tells you that you had to found magical gems I think? each one gived you a different power, I quiet not remember which ones maybe one permited you to transform in a bat or something like that? sorry really foggy. There where puzzles I think.
-I'm sure that in one room it was a library with corridors between the shelfs, it was laberynth like, really dark, and you had (or I didn't found the way of defending myself) to miss the monsters to find the gem/stone. I remeber especifically this cause I was scared, also, because of that I don't remember the enemies, if they were mosters or not.
Other details:
-Most probably it was a game that came with this CD-Roms with a ton more, galaxy ones where called?, in Europe, so it could be a demo.
-I could be flashing badly, but I think that the game have some sort of name with fort, or fortress, I wasl little and my english really bad so I could missinterpret the words.
-Remember that the loading or starting screen was a image of a castle or fortress in the middle of the water, dark, and with fog, at night, a little on the right-center of the screen, maybe there was also a boat in the first plane but not sure.

Every Dimension and Supernatural Environment of the Show Explained - A Catch Up for Those Who are Confused About the Mythology
From ST4 Vol 2's release to this day, I see many people confused over how all the supernatural/otherworldly environments of the show are distinct from one to another, mostly because they are missing stuff or misunderstanding official information that hasn't been explicitly explained on the show itself. So I'm making this post to explain what each dimension or supernatural environment means on the show, and put together all the information we have on them. A "quick" breakdown for you all to understand the nature of:
The Hellscape
Dimension X
The Upside Down/The Nether
The Mindscapes
Vecna's Mind Lair

The Hellscape,

https://preview.redd.it/wwf3bx2kz00d1.jpg?width=2500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c49b992dc35ba6089967787d92235f1f8c44dc96
• The Hellscape is an inter-dimensional environment that Number One was jettisoned through by young Eleven in 1979; a deadly, unstable fissure in space and time. This in-between chasm-like environment has two cloud planes parallel to each other conjoining lightning, and behind each cloud plane are mountainous terrains. The Hellscape isn't a dimension, per se, but rather an environment existing between dimensions.
• The Hellscape's design was meant to be "otherwordly and terrifying". Original iterations of it had the classic, red lightning storms that we're used to see in the Upside Down. and in some concept designs and storyboards, the spire mountain-like structures aren't included. Its original, reddish version was actually used on the show but was edited to the current yellow version a couple days after Vol. 1's release.
• There are unused sequences in the Hellscape seen in storyboards where the inter-dimensional environment tapers into a funnel and Number One seemingly falls into a glowing tear.
• There's an omitted scene in the Hellscape in S4E9 which takes place right after One says "I was somewhere... new." to Eleven. Possibly a scene that shows/explains how One went from the Hellscape into another realm:

Dimension X,

https://preview.redd.it/7jtnc52mz00d1.png?width=1983&format=png&auto=webp&s=ed5a89c474f18d75b77a1e4648c68bab9ed61d1b
The strange new environment that we were introduced to in S4E9. A mysterious realm with an altered state of gravity, asteroid fields in a scorched sky and vines and organic growths covering its rocky ground.
• Dimension X is the place where all the Demo-creatures, the Mind Flayer particles, the vines (Nether stretches and Nether Flats), the Spore Clusters and the Upside Down's organic growths originate from. It's the homedimension of all the alien, otherworldly organisms and elements the Upside Down's been infected with since Season 1.
Although we were only introduced to Dimension X on ST4's Vol. 2, its existence has been hinted at by the Duffers since 2016, with Ross Duffer implying that the Upside Down is not where the S1 Demogorgon "actually came from" - the question as to "where these monsters are coming from" is something the Duffers would point out again multiple times in the following years.
Ross: There’s a lot there we don’t know or understand. Even with the Upside Down, we have a 30-page document that is pretty intricate in terms of what it all means, and where this monster actually came from, and why aren’t there more monsters
• Unlike the Upside Down, Dimension X is a realm that has seemingly always existed out there, with Mankind 's first (known) contact with it dating back to October 28, 1943 during the U.S. Navy's Project Rainbow/Philadelphia Experiment. Essentially, Dimension X is an ancient alien terrain existing outside of (our) space and time. A strange realm populated by faceless monsters.
• Just like the Hellscape, Dimension X originally had a reddish coloring before being edited to the current, yellowish version. Early ideas for this Dimensin X included this very early, much darker iteration, and a idea where Mind Flayer particles are a antigravity element lifting the boulders into the air, which was scrapped for being too complex to be explained in S4.
• The exposure to Dimension X's environment has a weird, supernatural effect on visitors, causing their blood to be altered. Which is what happened to Dr. Martin Brenner's father and Henry Creel, ultimately "giving him" his psychic abilities.

The Upside Down/The Nether,

• The Upside Down, which was originally referred to as "The Nether", is a dim, sick reflection of what Hawkins, Indiana looked like on November 6, 1983. Dimension X's vines and organic growths have overtaken all surfaces, making the Upside Down look diseased or infected.
One of the biggest mysteries of the show, which is a question that had been first raised back in 2016 by production designer Chris Trujillo, is how the Upside Down "came into existence" - something the Duffers and the Writers' Room have always had an answer for, an answer that is written on a 25-page Mythology document dating back to August 4, 2015. While the full context behind the UD's existence is purposely unknown to us, its origin is not really a mystery - something most of people are missing/don't quite understand:
• The Upside Down was inadvertently "created" by Eleven on November 6, 1983 when she touched the Demogorgon in the Void and opened the Mothergate, and it's an exact snapshot of what Hawkins looked like in that moment. It is not frozen in time, per se, but it's never changed since its creation. This has been confirmed for almost 7 years now, and was re-confirmed by Chris Trujillo in 2022 when he explicitly stated that Eleven inadvertently created it:
Chris Trujillo to IndieWire in 2017:
Essentially, at the moment that the rift was formed and [unleashed] the monster, this dark dimension overlaps with the Hawkins’ world and it gets inflected with the vines and the spores,
Chris Trujillo in a S4 spotlight in 2022:
"The moment that the Upside Down was quote-unquote 'created' inadvertently by Eleven, the set dressing and the world of the Upside Down is frozen in that moment. So like when we're in Nancy's room, we'll discover in the Upside Down that Nancy's room is as it was season [one] when we first were introduced to it."
• Essentially, the Upside Down is an "amalgamation" of the "Hawkins world" with Dimension X - the two worlds that El connected via psychic contact, which is why it looks like Hawkins, but infected by Dimension X's flora.
• During that one week where S1 takes place, only one creature was roaming in the newly created Upside Down: The Demogorgon. The same one that El touched in the Void, the one by which the Upside Down's creation is centered around. This has also been confirmed for almost 7 years by Ross Duffer, who mentioned a couple times that there's a reason as to why there was "only one monster"/"why aren't there more monsters" in the Upside Down. The Upside Down, however, does get filled with multiple monsters eventually.
Ross: There’s a lot there we don’t know or understand. Even with the Upside Down, we have a 30-page document that is pretty intricate in terms of what it all means, and where this monster actually came from, and why aren’t there more monsters...
Ross: There’ll always be something a little otherworldly about it, but the plan in that second season is to get into more of those questions, like why there was only one monster and what the Upside Down is exactly...
• Due to being a parallel plane, the Upside Down is naturally connected to the Hawkins world, causing both dimensionS to affect one and another. Any presence in the Upside Down will affect the electromagnetic field in our dimension (e.g. the Byers House's lights flickering when the Demogorgon, Will or Hopper and Joyce were walking through its UD version); sounds from our dimension echo in the Upside Down; a Demogorgon in TUD can trace blood from our dimension; Gates can be opened at any location (in Hawkins); light sources in the Right Side Up create the "Shimmer" in TUD.

Mindscapes,

• The name "Mindscape" is used by the show's production crew to refer to every psychic space we see on the show. Eleven's Black Void, and Vecna's Mind Lair are both considered Mindscapes (Production Designer Chris Trujillo has even referred to the Mind Lair as a "mindscape space.") , and so are all the psychic spaces we've seen Vecna create and put his victims in (e.g. Chrissy being haunted by Vecna in "her house" before being killed was Mindscape projected by Vecna within her mind, the dark cemetery Max was at talking to Billy was a Mindscape within her mind, and so on).
• Project Indigo Numbers (Eleven, One and possibly Ten) have the ability to access/go into their own psychic spaces and through them, they are able to use Remote Viewing and Extrasensory Perception abilities. They can psychically reach out to people, into their minds, psychically project themselves to other locations, including other dimensions.
**• The Void is the manifestation of El's psyche. The Mind Lair is the manifestation of Henry's. Through them, we can see how expanded the boundaries of their minds are.
I should also point out that Mindscapes, including the Void and the Mind Lair, do not exist physically. People have been erroneously referring to the Mind Lair as the Upside Down, but these are completely different things. TUD is a physical, alternate dimension. The Mind Lair is a space within One's mind.**

The Mind Lair,

https://preview.redd.it/l0oxwo8r610d1.jpg?width=2500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5dd9dce5d7f46b5db53c6a7786f1ccc48a468e31
• This is Number One's individual Mindscape. His equivalent of Eleven's Void. It is the manifestation of Henry's current psychology; a psychic space filled with fragmented elements of his memories, including the Creel House, the grandfather clock and even the mason jars with black widows that didn't make it to the show. Chris Trujillo's explanation as to the nature of the Mind Lair described it pretty well:
He describes the lair as a “psychic space. It’s the manifestation of a character’s psychology,” he says. “It was about what space would he create mentally.”
• The Mind Lair is filled with vine towers that form a visually unique environment the production crew refers to as "Spire Forest." The whole floor is covered in a thin layer of blood (similar to how El's Mindscape is covered in a thin layer of water) The center of this psychic space is an island, which is where the fragmented Creel House is at. The vine towers are where Vecna leaves the psychic corpes of his victims hanging like trophies. Originally, Max was supposed to stumble across a "forest of victims" in S4E4 - rotting bodies who were probably Virginia, Alice and all the 16 Project Indigo Numbers he has killed.
• The Mind Lair is also filled with multiple supernatural/otherworldly elements One stumbled across during his life, such as Dimension X's altered state of gravity and the Hellscape's spire moutain-like formations. In the script for S4E9, Dimension X is even compared to the Mind Lair:
Rocky red objects, like the ones from Vecna's mind lair, float like nightmare islands in a scorched sky.
• In The First Shadow, One's mindscape is revealed to have been originally like Eleven's Black Void, suggesting that every Mindscape (of the Indigo Numbers who have and can go into them) is originally black void.

Games With The Most Impressive Graphics (long read)
As video games have continued to grow and evolve as both entertainment and art, the games just keep looking better and better. If someone is playing on a high-end PC or the average console, it's hard not to notice when a game stands out a bit more than the rest.
Whether it is the highest fidelity graphics or just a gorgeous art style (or both), games that look good usually also play well. If that much time gets spent in the graphics department they must have something good elsewhere. Here are the games with the best graphics out there.
Updated on May 12, 2024 by Mark Sammut: Two recently-released games deserve to be spotlighted. One is the latest entry in a long-running JRPG franchise, while the other is a new IP from a Korean studio.
Note:
A few criteria/things to keep in mind:
This article focuses on modern releases and a few post-2000s projects rather than classics from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Genesis, and PS1 eras. As important and industry-pushing as the latter were, visually they are too different from modern releases to compare them.
The games are only loosely ranked since graphical styles vary so much from project to project, and personal preference plays a part.
A 2016 game might be ranked higher than a 2024 one because the former was more impressive when it debuted, even if the latter technically looks better.
1)Lords Of The Fallen Unreal Engine 5 Is Here
Epic's Unreal Engine 5 was introduced in 2020, instantly garnering hype for what it could mean for the industry's future. In 2023, a few notable games that utilize the engine were finally released, presenting early examples of its potential. Remnant 2 and Immortals of Aveum are both visually impressive, and the same could be said for ARK: Survival Ascended.
However, at the moment, Lords of the Fallen is probably the most gorgeous UE5 game, although that could change once titles like Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 are released. While not without its issues, the Soulslike game's graphics are certainly not among them. Axiom is a vast and stunning hellscape, one that has quite a bit of variety. The game's lighting and animations are consistently top-notch too.
2)Bright Memory: Infinite A One-Person Team
Games and their visuals cannot be analyzed in a vacuum. Context and expectations shape somebody's reaction to an experience, and that is certainly the case with Bright Memory: Infinite. Developed by a single developer, Zeng Xiancheng, this first-person shooter originally debuted in 2020 as Bright Memory, a concept that was expanded for a full release in July 2022. While the overall game has plenty of issues, its graphics are undeniably impressive, comparing favorably with higher-budget titles.
There are plenty of gorgeous indie titles, but the vast majority succeed because they do not try to emulate AAA projects. They strive to do their own thing. Bright Memory: Infinite does the exact opposite, and the game proves that it can be done well.
3)Hi-Fi Rush Burst Of Colour
Announced and released out of nowhere, Hi-Fi Rush was perhaps 2023's greatest surprise. Tango Gameworks' action game blends hack and slash combat with rhythm-based mechanics, rewarding players for adhering to the beat. Set in a corporate city run by Vandelay Technologies, the title brings to life a vibrant and bustling metropolis filled with unique buildings and NPCs.
As the campaign is linear, Hi-Fi Rush focuses on creating cool environments and backdrops, two things the game absolutely nails. Quite a few stages are predominantly set within samey corridors and indoor areas, but whenever the action heads outside, Hi-Fi Rush really comes alive.
4)Okami HD An Animated Painting
There aren't many games that have been able to graphically stand the test of time as well as Okami has. Originally released in 2006 on consoles like the PlayStation 2 and Wii, Okami was able to take advantage of its timeless style to make the most out of the hardware it was on.
However, playing Okami on those consoles today shows just how much the original systems were holding it back, which is where the HD version comes in. On the PS4 and Switch, Okami's classical Japanese art style looks absolutely stunning in just about every area of the game.
5)Heavenly Sword Motion Capture Showcase
Most of Ninja Theory's bigger games boast stellar visuals and character designs, however, Heavenly Sword gets the nod because it was the studio's first proper graphical showcase. More impressively, the early PS3 game still looks beautiful today, an achievement that should be largely credited to the project's use of motion capture technology.
The cut-scenes steal the show and could easily pass for a mid-budget animated flick, with Andy Serkis' performance as King Bohan ranking among the best in any era of gaming. During gameplay, Heavenly Sword is also a treat for the eyes and senses, particularly in its lavish environments.
6)Killzone: Mercenary Console Quality On A Handheld System
Regardless of their quality, all the Killzone games are graphical showcases. Despite being a launch title, 2013's Shadow Fall is still among the most visually impressive games on the PS4. As stunning as Guerrilla's mainline entries are, Killzone: Mercenary deserves a special mention due to its hardware.
The PS Vita was and still is a reasonably powerful handheld device, one that could replicate home console visuals to a certain extent. No other title highlighted the console's graphical potential better than Killzone: Mercenary, an FPS that would not have looked out of place on the PS3 or even as a budget PS4 project. The fact it is also a decent game does not hurt either.
7)Super Mario Odyssey It Is Not Always About Realism Or Processing Power
While combining "Nintendo Switch game" with "best graphics" might seem weird, it's hard to argue that Super Mario Odyssey doesn't make the most of the console's limited processing power. With a combination of stylized art and impressive HD, Mario explores several gorgeous landscapes that might inspire players to sit back and think about how far things have come.
Nintendo has always used fantastical art styles to produce charming and timeless games that don't break the bank on processing. Mario has never looked this good, and sequences like the New Donk City music festival allow the game to shine.
8)Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League For All Its Faults, The Graphics Are Not One Of Them
All of Rocksteady's games push the envelope in terms of visuals, and 2015's Arkham Knight still boasts the most impressive rendition of Gotham in gaming. Its visuals have aged magnificently, and the gameplay is fantastic, even if the overall project is not quite on the same level as Arkham Asylum or Arkham City. After an 8-year wait, Rocksteady made its comeback with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League; unfortunately, the Arkhamverse spin-off garnered a very mixed reception. Focusing on looter shooter action in an attempt to be a live-service experience, Suicide Squad is a fairly confused project that does not seem to play to Rocksteady's strengths.
While many elements warrant criticism, and it can be tempting to dismiss the entire project, the game is not without positives. If nothing else, the graphics are generally top-notch, particularly when it comes to the cutscenes and character designs. When the action gets going, the screen can get rather muddled, but it is not devoid of visual flare either. For all its faults, Suicide Squad certainly looks like a proper AAA project.
9)Halo: Reach A Series That Always Pushed Console Graphics To Their Limits
In truth, Reach could be regarded as a stand-in for Halo in general as Microsoft's franchise is consistently pushing console visuals to their limits. In terms of art style, Halo 4 certainly has its fans; when it comes to graphical prowess, Halo 5 and Infinite are unsurprisingly a step above their predecessors. However, Halo: Reach perfected the series' iconic aesthetic of Bungie's era, ensuring the latter's time with the license ended on a high note.
Nowadays, Reach looks its best in The Master Chief Collection, which enhances the visuals in a few subtle but notable ways. That said, the Xbox 360 version holds up well after all these years.
10)Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot At Times, Looks (Much) Better Than The Anime
It wasn't until fairly recently that video games hit the graphical fidelity necessary to be able to fully translate animated shows and films into live gameplay, with recent Dragon Ball games being the most shining examples. 2018's Dragon Ball FighterZ was able to take a page out of Guilty Gear's book to make a stunning 2.5D experience, but gorgeous, fully 3D anime games were still a rarity.
Until Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was released, that is. Taking the Toriyama characters and landscapes that fans know and love, Kakarot turns them into stunning 3D models with some of the most impressive animations and visual effects around.
11)Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga Detailed & Beautiful
Lego projects might not be as graphically intensive as games with realistic visuals, but they have a unique and clean aesthetic that generally complements their gameplay and tone. Although the franchise's IP adaptations are consistently pleasing to the eyes, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga exists on a whole other level. Covering all the main episodes in the sci-fi film series, the game beautifully recreates some of the most iconic locations in Star Wars, creating worlds that are expansive and detailed.
Undoubtedly the most ambitious Lego title, The Skywalker Saga is the full package, and Traveller's Tales' hard work is evident throughout the experience. While very much designed with younger players in mind, die-hard fans are likely to have a blast regardless of their age; in fact, people who are just searching for an action-adventure romp should check this release out.
12)Golden Sun A Gorgeous World To Take On The Go
In terms of raw power, the Game Boy Advance has nothing on the Nintendo DS, let alone something like the Switch; however, that does not mean the classic console's library is devoid of gorgeous games. Golden Sun is a turn-based JRPG set in Weyard, a fantasy world that is refreshingly diverse in terms of environments.
Largely experienced from a top-down perspective, Golden Sun looks like most other old-school JRPGs found on the GBA or SNES, just with its graphics maximized to their full potential. Camelot instilled every town and dungeon with color and personality, while battles come to life with a flurry of effects that are dazzling to behold.
13)South Park: The Fractured But Whole Looks Exactly Like The Show
When adapting an established property to a different medium, concessions usually need to be made. However, exceptions do exist, and South Park: The Fractured but Whole managed to perfectly replicate the show's aesthetic. The RPG looks and sounds exactly like Trey Parker and Matt Stone's legendary animated series, permitting fans to immerse themselves in this world like never before.
Even removed from that context, The Fractured but Whole's visuals are detailed, expressive, and clean. Authenticity did not come at the cost of quality.
14)Shadow Of The Colossus (2018) Majesty In Gaming Form
For the most part, this article focuses on modern games rather than titles that were graphical showcases when they debuted. Shadow of the Colossus both follows this rule and is also an exception; while the PS2 version looks dated, the visuals still retain that same sense of wonder and scale that they had when the game originally came out in 2005.
Bluepoint Games' 2018 remake gives Team Ico's classic a modern makeover, and traversing the Forbidden Land in search of majestic colossi remains as haunting of an experience as it was in the PS2 era.
15)Stellar Blade More Than Just Eve
In the lead-up to its release, Stellar Blade's marketing heavily advertised Eve, its AI protagonist, and her wardrobe. Attractive characters being used to sell projects is nothing new, but their heavy promotion usually suggests a lack of trust in the rest of the game's quality.
Surprisingly, Stellar Blade proved to be way more than just its main character. Shift Up created an exciting action game with Soulslike combat (along with hack and slash influence) that also features surprisingly expansive zones that allow for exploration, side quests, and environmental storytelling. Considering it was created by a smallish studio compared to other PS5 first-party titles, Stellar Blade compares favorably to most of Sony's heavyweights, and it is among the best-looking Unreal Engine 4 games of all time. In fact, it could be confused for Unreal Engine 5.
16)Persona 5 Royal Oozes Style
As hundreds of games use an anime aesthetic, they start to blend together if they do not inject enough personality into their presentations. Persona 5 Royal does not have this issue. Everything about the game screams "stylish," and that holds true for the social sim and dungeon crawling sections of the campaign. The latter take place in diverse Palaces that are generally vibrant, lively, and gorgeous.
The visuals also do a lot of heavy lifting during battles, elevating what is a rather unspectacular turn-based combat system. Outside of Palaces, P5R unleashes players on a small but dense variant of Tokyo, one brimming with tiny details that enhance the experience.
Note:
Persona 3 Reload is quite a looker as well, although its single-dungeon setup restricts variety when compared to Persona 5 Royal 's Palaces.
17)The Last Of Us 2 Gritty Realism & Tremendous Performances
Naughty Dog's games are always on the cutting edge graphically. 2016's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has barely aged a day since its release, and 2013's The Last of Us was a contender for the most visually impressive game of the seventh generation. Therefore, unsurprisingly, the studio's latest offering, The Last of Us 2, is a powerhouse in the graphics department.
This action-adventure game features realistic visuals and grounded performances courtesy of Naughty Dog using performance capture. Whether players are viewing a rare quiet moment or crawling in the mud to avoid a Clicker, The Last of Us 2 looks incredible. The 2024 remaster enhances the base version even further.
18)Gears 5 Weather Effects & Environments
The newly titled Gears 5 takes a series that has always looked good and elevates it to the next level. The game's campaign takes place across a wide variety of environments, from a jungle early on to a snowy tundra and red desert landscape.
The snowy tundra and red desert are also the locations for the game's more open exploration sections, giving a chance to explore and take in all the scenery. Gears 5's cutscenes are also gorgeous and the high fidelity extends into all the game's other modes.
19)Assassin's Creed Odyssey Packed With Stunning Vistas
Assassin's Creed Odyssey earns its subtitle over the 60-plus hours it takes to mainline the story; in the meantime, players get to appreciate and take in the beauty of Ancient Greece. While the environments don't vary a ton from Assassin's Creed Origins, the extra trees and seas make for some spectacular views.
With the viewpoints, Odyssey never hesitates to point out just how magnificent it looks. Most of the main characters and side characters also look great, which is impressive based on the quantity.
20)Hades Personality & Vibrancy
Supergiant Games has put together some of the greatest indie releases of all time, and the studio's crowning achievement is Hades. The roguelike follows Zagreus' repeated attempts to make the journey from the Underworld to Mount Olympus, a task that proves to be anything but simple for Hades' son.
Hades' visuals are vibrant, thematically consistent, and lively. The game's environments and characters are soaked in mythology and personality, while the particle effects are fantastic and impactful. The only negative is that sometimes there is a bit too much happening on screen.
Note:
Hades 2 arguably looks better than its predecessor, but it is still a work in progress at the moment.
21)Cuphead Perfectly Mimics Classic Cartoons
A unique and eye-catching art style is often more important than sheer graphical prowess, and Cuphead might be the best demonstration of this point. Inspired by cartoons of old, Studio MDHR created a game that uses stunning and dynamic hand-drawn animation to bring to life a colorful world and the beings that exist within it.
Even though they do not get much in the way of backstory, Cuphead utilizes its presentation to get across the personalities of each boss. The art style is also consistent throughout the campaign, allowing for a coherent experience despite most of the characters boasting designs that share very little in common.
22)Horizon Forbidden West Scale & Quality
Guerrilla Games somehow managed to outdo Horizon Zero Dawn with its sequel, despite the latter still coming out on the PS4 alongside the console's successor. Horizon Forbidden West finds Aloy exploring a new area of this setting, one specifically inspired by states and cities like California and San Francisco. The result is a gorgeous and vast world packed with lush natural environments that are home to intricate mechanical beasts.
Like most open-world games, Horizon Forbidden West does not always look absolutely fantastic, but its high points are so impressive that they make the more forgettable moments forgivable. While still a beautiful game on the PS4, this 2022 release is, unsurprisingly, at its best on the PS5.
23)Ori And The Will Of The Wisps Great Use Of Color & Light
Moon Studios' Ori games are some of the best modern Metroidvanias, and they knock it out of the park in nearly every area. They tell emotional storylines that succeed in fostering not only a connection between the audience and the silent eponymous character but also the world they live in. Gameplay-wise, both games have precise and challenging platforming, while Will of the Wisps also introduces combat to the mix. Although a touch polarizing, the latter nevertheless adds an extra dimension to the overall package.
Last but not least, Ori and its sequel are both visually enchanting. The games' use of color might be among the best in the entire industry, and each environment is a work of art. In the world of side-scrollers, not many projects compare favorably to Ori and the Will of the Wisps in any department, including graphics.
24)Demon's Souls (2020) A Beautiful Hell
As mesmerizing as Elden Ring's visuals can be at times, the game's open-world design means they are spread a bit thin; conversely, 2020's Demon's Souls remake consists of almost nothing but stunning areas. Rife with deadly creatures, haunting architecture, and intimidating landscapes, Boletaria is a gorgeous nightmare of a kingdom that is equally likely to leave players in awe or fear.
As a launch title for the PS5, Demon's Souls served as something of a tech demo for the hardware, showing what the next-gen console could accomplish. This is a game that could not exist on the PS4, and even more than 18 months into the PS5's life, Demon's Souls still has some of the best graphics on the system.
25)Ghost Of Tsushima Immersive Open-World
Gazing across Ghost of Tsushima's rendition of the Japanese archipelago is quite the sight to behold, as this highly anticipated title has some breathtaking scenery. Tsushima's main graphical focus is on its world, which ends up feeling just as alive as the characters that inhabit it.
The way cherry blossom petals flow in the highly stylized wind, how the sunset illuminates the beautiful countryside, and the many vibrant colors that contrast the violent gameplay make for one beautiful game.
26)Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Pixar Quality
Similar to 2016's Ratchet & Clank, Rift Apart's animation is on a whole other level. The franchise's most recent entries tend to be compared to Pixar's movies, which is about as high of praise as any game can receive. Utilizing the full power of the PS5, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart matches top-tier cutscenes with gameplay sections that are packed with detail, moving parts, and depth.
Insomniac created lavish and dense worlds that all have unique flavors that make them exciting to explore. When the action gets going and Ratchet or Rivet scoop up bolts, Rift Apart is as smooth as butter.
Note:
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is also visually stunning and represents Insomniac at its best. Rift Apart merits the nod due to being among the first PS5 projects to showcase the console's graphical potential, but Spider-Man 2 is as good-looking of an open-world game as they come.
27)Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch Ghibli Quality
Except for Square Enix, Level-5 is arguably the most consistent JRPG developer in terms of visuals. Yo-kai Watch, Dragon Quest 8, and Dark Cloud 2 are all gorgeous, and the latter's art styles are timeless. Level-5's graphical masterpiece is undoubtedly 2013's Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, although the developer got some help as the game's cutscenes were handled by Studio Ghibli.
The anime studio is well-known for its lavish cinematic productions, and Wrath of the White Witch replicates Ghibli's iconic style splendidly. Even if the cutscenes were ignored, Ni no Kuni would still rank among the PS3's most beautiful games.
28)Resident Evil 2 (2019) – Represents All Modern Resident Evil Games A Remake Done Right
Years of remasters and rereleases have cemented the idea that old games can look better than they did, but not as good as modern ones. Capcom rebuilding Resident Evil 2 from the ground up makes it a modern video game, a fantastic one at that. Leon and Claire have never looked this good and neither have the zombies and monsters terrorizing Raccoon City.
The police station and underground lab look nearly life-like and every scare in the game is extra terrifying with how detailed the monsters are. Even Tyrant looks awesome, in his own terrifying way.
Note:
Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 also look fantastic, but RE2 received the nod as it was the first of Capcom's stint of recent remakes. Resident Evil Village is also stunning.
29)Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) The World At The Player's Fingertips
Microsoft Flight Simulator is a jaw-dropping achievement. The flight sim grants players access to the world, allowing them to plan and take trips to Earth's highest mountains, hottest deserts, and greatest metropolises. The game's scope is impressive, and this ambition is more than matched by its technical prowess.
Microsoft Flight Simulator is arguably the most realistic game of all time, with both the planes and locations authentically mirroring their real-life counterparts to the smallest detail.
30)God Of War (2018) & Ragnarok (2022) A New Era, A New Look
Nothing against the previous installments of God of War, which are all technical showcases in their own right, but the soft reboot of the 2018 sequel and its successor are not only different but also more gorgeous. Exploring the Norse lands to soak up this universe's mythology is spectacular for a number of reasons, including the fact that everything looks great.
God of War captures Kratos and Atreus in a way that gives depth to the former not experienced in previous installments. Unsurprisingly, God of War: Ragnarok maintains the high quality set by its predecessor. Graphically, the sequel does not offer a huge leap forward, but that is a testament to God of War's beauty rather than a criticism of Ragnarok.
31)The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Pushes The Switch To Its Absolute Limit
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom boast vibrant art styles that bring Hyrule to life like never before. However, if someone were to focus on the minute details, they might notice reused or flat textures along with large stretches of empty real estate containing nothing but maybe two enemies and a couple of apples. Compared to some other open-world projects, Nintendo's releases might not be that impressive; however, considering the Switch's underpowered hardware, both games are technical marvels.
Tears of the Kingdom gets the nod as it has more content than Breath of the Wild thanks to the implementation of Sky Islands and the Depths. Pushing the Switch to its absolute limit, the sequel delivers one of the most complete and expansive open-world adventures of all time.
32)The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt A Dark Fantasy Masterpiece In Nearly Every Way
Known for being one of the greatest games ever made, CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3 is phenomenal for numerous reasons. Not all the monsters or gruff characters are a joy to look at because they aren't meant to be, but the sprawling landscapes are constantly killer.
While the console versions look great (not including the Switch port, which is nonetheless impressive in its own right), The Witcher 3 on PC can hit graphical levels that are almost beyond understanding. The game is worth playing for a ton of reasons besides graphics, but looking good is always a plus. The bathtub scene is worth the price of entry alone.
On the right system, Cyberpunk 2077 is also one of the best-looking games ever .
33)A Plague Tale: Requiem A Proper Current-Gen Experience
As the ninth console generation picks up steam, more games will debut that raise the bar for graphics, at least on Sony and Microsoft's hardware. A Plague Tale: Requiem is one of the first games to truly come across as a current-gen experience, an achievement aided by Asobo Studio's decision to not produce PS4 and Xbox One versions.
Boasting brilliant facial animations and photo-realistic visuals, Requiem is awe-inspiring on a technical level. While 2019's Innocence is also a pretty game, Requiem far exceeds its predecessor in this department, particularly when it comes to the presentation of the rats.
34)Forza Horizon 5 Mexico At The Player's Fingertips
As long as Forza games continue to be made they will continue to be the best-looking games on the market. Forza Horizon 5 isn't just one of the greatest racing games of the last few years, but one of the most gorgeous titles to ever be released for Xbox.
While Forza Horizon 4's British setting resulted in slightly homogenous environments, the sequel's Mexico map is far more diverse, offering 11 biomes that showcase different aspects of the country. While the game looks good on the Xbox One, Forza Horizon 5 is unbelievably gorgeous on PC and the Xbox Series X.
35)Alan Wake 2 Cinematic Quality
Alan Wake 2 was a long time coming, and the sequel managed to live up to some rather lofty expectations while catering to both returning fans and new players. Split across two campaigns, the story follows Saga as she investigates a murder case that leads her to an unsettling American town with a peculiar populace. In the meantime, Alan finds himself trying to escape the Dark Place, a haunting realm that twists reality into something menacing but familiar.
Although complementary, the two storylines still feel different from each other, and that extends to their detailed and realistic locations. Alan Wake 2 is a technical work of art built using Remedy's own Northlight Engine, which is also responsible for the equally impressive Control and Quantum Break.
36)Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Ambitious, Epic, & Gorgeous
Generally, most JRPG franchises tend to trail behind other AAA properties in terms of graphics; however, the one constant exception is Final Fantasy. In most generations, Square Enix produces one or two games that push consoles to their limits – Final Fantasy 6 for the SNES, Final Fantasy 7 and 8 for the PS1, Final Fantasy 12 for the PS2, Final Fantasy 13 for the PS3, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake for the PS4. On the PS5, Final Fantasy 16 and Rebirth are both visually stunning, but the latter gets the nod due to its open-world nature, making for a more impressive final product.
Set after Cloud and company leave Midgar, Rebirth emphasizes this story's world-spanning nature and scale in a way that could not be done with the 1997 original. Even if the open-world filler content might not be to everyone's tastes, the game is consistently gorgeous, and each region of the map has a unique identity that keeps things interesting. The character and enemy models are unsurprisingly flawless, and they are accompanied by high-quality visual effects that are regularly showcased during the fast-paced combat.
37)Half-Life: Alyx The Future Of Gaming?
After more than a decade, Valve finally returned to the Half-Life franchise, albeit with a prequel/sequel rather than a proper third entry. Also, Half-Life: Alyx is a VR game, presumably designed to get people interested in Valve's Index headset. Dropping players in City 17, Alyx not only serves as a showcase of VR technology but is also a proper, substantial addition to the beloved series.
Half-Life: Alyx arguably features the most detailed world in gaming history, and, thanks to virtual reality, one of the most immersive. Although most of the game takes place in underground areas filled with brilliantly designed environments and enemies, Half-Life: Alyx's presentation goes up another level whenever the story heads to the surface.
38)Red Dead Redemption 2 An Era Captured Fully
Red Dead Redemption 2 is arguably the game with the best graphics of all time, although Rockstar's GTA 5 and L.A. Noire would not be bad shouts either. RDR2 is practically a movie due to how detailed and impressive all the NPCs and landscapes look on both consoles and PC.
Not only does every single frame of this adventure look photo-realistic, but RDR2 is also incredibly long and players will never get tired of the scenery. Arthur Morgan looks and feels like a real human being, and the same extends to every other character within the game. RDR2 is nothing short of art.
39)Groundbreaking Games From Yesteryear They Set The Standard
While not quite as regular of a phenomenon nowadays, the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s produced plenty of games that represented the next leap in graphical prowess. Titles like Pong, Asteroids, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 64, Alone in the Dark, Ocarina of Time, Tomb Raider, Mist, Final Fantasy 7, and Grand Theft Auto 3 were all visual showcases that changed the industry.
Even if some of these projects' graphics have not aged extremely well, that does not diminish their accomplishments or importance. And, plenty of these masterpieces have stood the test of time, especially Nintendo's SNES-era releases.

2024.05.12 15:25 dantoncobb From Osprey Farpoint to Osprey Daylite 26+6

Absolutely love this sub!
I’ve been travelling with the Osprey Farpoint 40 for a few years now and has changed my travels a lot. I’m wondering if anyone has moved on from the Farpoint to the Osprey Daylite 26+6, which I’ve recently acquired but not taken on any travel yet.
If someone has had expedience with both then please leave a comment! Pros and cons? I read in a recent comment that the Daylite 26+6 is uncomfortable.
I did a packing demo run for my next trip and could almost fit everything I wanted to pack into my Farpoint into my new Daylite. Is this a gain if it’s uncomfortable to use for a smaller bag?
For me, I don’t mind paying extra for cabin baggage for the bigger bag on planes. Don’t bring laptops

2024.05.11 08:54 backseatlover1 Cancelled Club World Flight due to technical reason- DXB to LHR. Tickets were booked with companion voucher

Good Morning Everyone. I had two return tickets for the BA106 flight from DXB to LHR yesterday. We were loaded onto the plane and kept on board for four hours until we were taken off and told flight was delayed 18 hours but later got message saying it was totally cancelled. The only option was to then book a reroute 2 days later. I needed to be back in london today for an NHS appt so I booked two economy emirates seats.
The issue is that the tickets we booked were BA Club World booked with the BA Amex companion voucher and we paid with Avios. My understanding is that we should be able to recieve the £520 compensation each due to delay and also a refund on booking for the return leg. Does anyone know how much I should be refunded as this is a companion voucher ? Is it also possible to claim anything for the emirates flights as I paid a substantial amount to get back home in time.

2024.05.10 20:28 pillowcase-of-eels [Music] Emilie Autumn's Asylum, pt. 5 – Musician spends years building vibrant and loyal audience; single-sentence comment from concerned fan triggers civil war and ruins everything forever

🪞 “It's much easier to get in that it is to get out,” Emilie Autumn used to say. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4.1 - Part 4.2
She was not wrong. Welcome back to the Asylum write-up!
In this installment, we're finally getting down to the nitty-gritty of the enmity between EA and her fans.
It's time for war. It's time for blood. It's time... for tea. 🎵

THE PRESENT DAY: “ASK ME ANYTHING (WELL, NOT QUITE)”

"Ask me anything" titles are catchy, and that’s why I’m using one. But, obviously, don’t ask me anything, by which I mean that, if you think I wouldn’t answer it, you’re probably right. Ask me something really good. I’d love to answer you. I’d love to have comments on these posts, in fact, so that I could answer questions there regularly and ask you things as well, but insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, or so Einstein is supposed to have said, and attempting to create yet another interactive online venue after every previous attempt has ended in heartbreak—forums, facebook groups, social media accounts—it would indeed be insanity to think that this time would be any different. So there are no comments. This too is heartbreaking in the sense that, and you may not realize this, but I desperately want to connect more completely with you—to be able to intelligently converse and share and exchange. We can do that in person, of course, because the wrong people never show up in person. Isn’t that funny… So, perhaps we’ll have to arrange that;). I’ll start you off with an example question I’d want to know if I were you (I can almost guarantee that you do not want to know this). Q. Hey EA, how do you keep your wireless bodypack transmitter secure when you are leaping about in skimpy costumes and doing frequent costume changes? Also, dye your roots. A. Fantastic question, EA, and I just dyed my roots thank you very much. ... (Deleted blog post followed by a year of radio silence, 2022 📝)
Sooo. For the past five-ish years, the vibe in the Asylum has been that of a protracted Christmas dinner where everyone is tensely moving their food around in their plate, bracing themselves for whatever will trigger the screaming match. Wondering what it's going to be this time. Weary old-timers make small talk about the food because no other topic feels safe. Every glance, every forced smile, is fraught with eons-old grudges and unspoken regrets; every nervous pleasantry sounds like a thinly-veiled accusation. Aunt Emilie always insists on hosting, but not-so-secretly hates having people over. Sooner or later, she finds a way to get all of these assholes out of her house. Most of the adult children are daydreaming about going no-contact.
Everyone ready for some dysfunctional family history?

YE OLDEN DAYS: CUCKOOS OF A FEATHER NEST TOGETHER

In the beginning, it was beautiful.
EA had the excellent instinct to start banking on her online presence📝 long before MySpace was even a thing. She had a website, several online stores, an active LiveJournal and a ProBoards forum right from the turn of the millennium.
In 2004, she attached an official forum to her website; the earliest archive shows 74 registered users. By the time Opheliac came out in 2006, that number had grown tenfold. And it was, by most accounts, a pretty dope place to be! (I should specify that this write-up focuses on the anglophone side of the fandom: there were also thriving fan-run communities in at least German, French, and Spanish. Because EA doesn't speak any of those languages, the lucky bastards were mostly left alone.)
Forum users enjoyed interacting with some of EA's closest IRL friends and associates – and with the mistress of the house herself (user flair: PsychoFiddler), when she occasionally responded to comments under her own posts. But that wasn't even the main appeal for many. For a long time, on top of all EA-related topics, the official forum had very active “Off-Topic” subforums, with lively and friendly conversation on a variety of subjects. (There was even a “Filthy Libertines (18+)” sub for a while, which was closed due to preemptive concerns about minors.) Swear words (not slurs) were allowed and encouraged, and moderation was overall pretty loose beyond basic enforcement of civility. There was a lot of mutual support, creativity, and solid banter going around.
It wasn't just about Emilie on the forums. People could chat about almost anything with near free reign, making connections and lifelong friends. ... This community mattered SO MUCH to people. They felt included, accepted, and understood within the walls of the Asylum. People invested their time and creative energy into keeping the forums a vibrant, active community, and made sure that carried over into the real world. ... I've never seen anything like it in a fan space. I doubt I ever will again. (@Asylum_Oracle - “Fandom History” Instagram highlight 🔍📝, which contains most of the sources for this segment.)
And it did, indeed, carry over into the real world. There were numerous meet-ups – a few organized by EA, many more spontaneous. People who didn't know any other EA fans in real life, or were just excited to add new Plague Rats to their friend group, would regularly connect with other forum users from their area to meet up and hang out before EA shows. “Who else is dressing up??”
In 2008, for instance, EA held an afternoon meet-up at Lincoln Park in Chicago. 📺 The event was free to attend; it featured live acoustic music and a reading from EA's upcoming book, the intriguingly-titled Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls.
On the appointed day, EA rolled up in a fabulously tousled red wig, bedazzled white corset and steampunk-altered wedding dress. She had brought friends alongs. Sporting blue hair and a pink bustle and corset was her Chicago bestie, the main forum admin. Rocking a guitar and a top hat was EA's sound engineer, the soft-spoken wizard behind the Victoriandustrial sound, who was also a forum mod. The photographer from the original Opheliac cover art was there as well; he was formally introduced by EA and got his own round of applause.
People who would never normally be involved in an artist's fanbase were in EA's world. And not only were they known – they were respected and incredibly active with the fanbase. These people who managed an online message board were willing to engage in real-world meet-ups (with no security??) because of how tight-knit the community they had built was. People turned out to this event. People traveled to go to this event. It was a short reading of a book that hadn't been released yet, and wouldn't be for some time. Why? Because not only was it a chance to meet Emilie and listen to parts of the new book, but it was also a chance to hang out with their friends from the Asylum. ... The fandom really was a family for a lot of people. (@Asylum_Oracle)

“SERIOUSLY, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY HOUSE.”

It all started with The End.
The End Records, that is! Quick refresher: in 2009, after three years or so with Trisol, EA split from the label over allegations that the owner was embezzling money from ticket sales. A few months later, she signed with The End Records. Understandably, EA still wanted to sell the album that had made her famous, and to which she had smartly retained the rights – which meant a brand new, “Deluxe” release of Opheliac. (Remember, from part 3? The one you could pre-order as a bundle with the book? Some projects are just cursed, I guess.)
At that point, Opheliac had been released three times already, as recently as the year before, with only slight variations in format and tracklist. (Yes, that is a theme in this story.) The End Records version would feature new cover art and a handful of new tracks, but overall, it was... you know... the same album.
(The following paragraphs are largely sourced from this excellent recap 🔍📝, which also provides potato screenshots for all quotes.)
One fateful day of August 2009, a user started a thread entitled “Opheliac US edition deluxe re-release??” in the “EA News” subforum. In the thread, some people were kind of balking at the re-do, pondering whether to buy the “new” Opheliac or sit this one out. Some expressed that after three years, they were jonesing for a new album. Others shared what B-sides or dream covers they would have liked to see included on the bonus disc. Just... fans being fans, in a fan discussion space.
And then EA jumped out from behind the curtains.
Fan: Okay. Before I start, I just want you to know that I think it's very good that EA is getting more popularity, and that she can release lots of albums, but - are 5 editions of the same album really needed? You may say now “ah, it's not the same, it has 2 bonus tracks” or whatever, but I mean: it's not new material. Now don't get me wrong. I'm happy for it, maybe I'll even buy it, but I'm just wondering if she shouldn't keep herself busy with other (maybe more important) stuff? * hides * EA: Nobody's forcing you to buy it. Thanks.
Record scratch.
Fan 1: is this Opheliac release version number 4? lol If she's recording NEW tracks, then surely they deserve to be sold by themselves, otherwise people are going to have to buy an album that they may have already bought twice (like me!). But... alas, I am a fool and adore everything this woman does... im buying it lol Fan 2: exactly – if it was just reissuing the last version of Opheliac to tap into new markets that would be fine (...) but if they start adding extra bits of material to albums people already have then the true muffins are going to feel obliged to buy new copies (...) EA: How exactly are you obliged to buy anything? Nobody is forcing you to spend a fucking penny, my dears. I suppose it would make more sense to you to simply not have my records available any more as the old label I just escaped from will no longer be distributing them? Forgive me for adding extra tracks. No obligation necessary.
...Okay, so I'm pretty sure that we can see both sides of the argument here. Fans are annoyed at the idea of spending money on barely-anything-new, because they love EA and buy every single CD she releases. EA is exasperated by fans acting like she's twisting their arm and somehow resenting the inclusion of new material, when she was just ensuring that her album would remain available for purchase and trying to keep things interesting.
But maybe we can also agree that those replies should have been screamed into a pillow rather than typed out on a keyboard.
EA was getting increasingly (and, I'll just say it: disproportionately) sarcastic and defensive in her replies. Enter poor FantineDormouse.
FantineDormouse meant well, I think. Maybe she thought, she's spiraling. Maybe she thought, friends don't let friends go down that road. Granted, FantineDormouse probably should have known better than to phrase it the way she did. Or to assume that EA perceived her as a friend.
Either way, at some point, FantineDormouse jumped in and posted the comment that finally made EA lose it. THE comment which, overnight, ended the honeymoon period of the Asylum, triggering a doomsday domino effect from which the fandom would never truly recover. Are you comfortably seated?
FantineDormouse: Uhm, Emilie, love, I don't mean to sound rude or anything... but maybe you should have a cup of tea and relax a little.
...
* sound of archduke getting shot *
EA: Excuse me? You can throw this onslaught of absolute cruel bullshit at me and those I work with in my own space that I own, and I can't say anything back? How fucking patronizing. Relax? Are you fucking kidding me? Who the fuck do you think you're talking to? FD: I'm not trying to piss you off even more, Emilie. And trust me, I have to deal with it myself, and as much as I would really love to punch the cunts I have to deal with in the face, I don't. You're pissed off, I get it. You're bipolar, which makes it 10x worse, I get that. I'm just not the person to stand around and do nothing when a fight where I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of regret is going on.
Famous last words. Literally! Immediately after EA delivered her irate closing statement – which includes one of my all-time favorite EA zingers, bolded...
EA: I cannot believe this... You just don't stop, do you? So just because I've shared the personal information with you all that I happen to be bipolar, I can't get pissed off at all of you being perfectly awful in the very space that I pay fuckloads a month to have up (has it ever occurred to you all that I pay dearly for this space you play around in?) Why not just tell me that I must be upset because it's my time of the month? Seriously, get the fuck out of my house. You are unbelievable, and your level of patronization is almost criminal. Don't make me write another book. With muffins like you, who needs enemies? Nothing I say or feel is legitimate, not ever ever ever because I'm bipolar... discredited before I begin... unbelievable...
...FantineDormouse got permabanned.
Jaws dropped. After days of infighting between white knights, detractors, and crossfire negotiators, several mod resignations, and general mayhem surrounding the ban, EA made a post entitled “In Which: I Invite You to Make a Fucking Choice.” 📝 For brevity's sake (cue laugh track), I can't reproduce it in all of its righteous splendor, but it's quite a read. It runs the gamut from fair and articulate points about how mental illness shouldn't be used to discredit someone's legitimate anger... to histrionic commands that “deserters to the cause” should “turn in their weapons” if they can't handle her way of doing things.
To those of you who appear not to understand why said posts, most especially those of the banned party, were offensive to me, I give you the option to either educate yourselves on your own time and in your own space (because please never forget that this is my space that I share with all of you at my own expense, and in which I generally give you all the freedom I would wish for myself), or to resign your posts in the Asylum Army – this is not the place for you, and I humbly suggest that you turn your attention and support towards other artists of a more placid, non-controversial, and less opinionated nature; there are more than enough of them out there, and I’m sure they all have forums of their own.
Some fans did leave. Most stuck around, whiplashed. Soon, the storm quieted down, and business as usual resumed on the forum. But something had been damaged beyond repair. The FantineDormouse fiasco had erected walls and drawn lines in the sand, both around EA and among her fans; its sad specter would haunt every Asylum crisis that spiked up forever after. “Fucking Patronizing Fucking” or “FPF” 🔍 became memetic shorthand in the fandom for overreaction and self-righteousness. 🐀
...And now you understand why, in the following years, some fans were so delicate and diplomatic in voicing their very legitimate complaints about messed-up orders, unsigned books, and puzzling lies... while unofficial platforms like Tumblr flourished with pent-up resentment and snark. 🦠

A NOTE ON HARASSMENT: “MAD GIRL, CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT THEY'VE DONE TO YOU?”

Wouldn't they stop When you asked them to leave you alone? (“Mad Girl”, 2008 🎵)
Now, let's be clear, because it should not be minimized: EA has also been the target of genuine online harassment. Based on the simple fact that she is a woman with a public presence on the internet, I have zero doubt that EA has received (and perhaps continues to receive) more than her share of truly vile, bigoted, creepy and threatening messages – and, knowing what I know about the darker recesses of the Asylum, a terrifying amount of emotional blackmail and obsessive projection from people who hold her to punitively high standards. I'm also inclined to believe that it started way before she ever did anything that warranted any backlash. And that fucking sucks. It's repulsive and inexcusable, and the people who harass her should crawl into a hole and live among the worms.
Notwithstanding. In my decade-plus of following EA drama, the public comments on EA's own platforms (where people knew she was likely to be reading) have been, for the most part... civil and nuanced, and relatively mindful of the human? Even very confrontational comments (some clearly written from a place of anger and desire to shame) rarely resorted to outright name-calling or cruelty. When abusive or bigoted language did crop up, it was often promptly shut down by other fans as gross and uncalled for. In short: I have, with mine own two eyes, in real time, read some of the comment sections that EA described as cesspools of blind rage and odious attacks, and... I just couldn't see it.
If anything, for a long time, a lot of the angry comments directed at EA during any given controversy read more like break-up letters to an ex-best friend: harsh, curt and targeted in a way that cuts deep.... but also kind of screams how much love you still have for this person, against your better judgement.
Not that it wouldn't mess a person up to get hundred of those in a matter of hours, even if they don't individually qualify as “abusive”.
It's worth noting that prior to becoming semi-famous and regretting it, EA was also (by her own account and among other forms of abuse) a victim of intense childhood bullying. It feels like the two situations are closely connected in her mind when her focus seamlessly transitions from one to the other. 📺 I don't think that tremor in her voice is put on.
Based on her writings, I get the feeling that over the years, EA has developed a very black-and-white view of two monolithic groups of people. There's (an idealized vision of) her “real audience”, well-dressed, well-read, kind-hearted, and Asylum-savvy, who she fully trusts to “get it” – and buy it, and love it, unquestioningly, whatever “it” may be at any given time – because that is the true measure of love and loyalty. These are the people she makes art and merch for, the people she writes heart-emoji-filled newsletters to, and desperately longs to see in person again.
And then there's the lynch mob, those who really don't “get it”: the trolls, the faceless creeps, the basement-dwelling mouthbreathers, the ones who stalk her every move obsessively, waiting for any chance to spam her with vicious abuse and slander and obscenities. The latter only exist online (they are manifested into arbitrary existence by the internet itself, not by anything EA said or did), and there is zero overlap between the two sets of people. That seems to be the official narrative.
The "public eye" isn't an [enviable] place to be, and the closer I've come to it, the more horrified I've been. Because, for starters, who is "the public?" Is "the public" my audience? Hell no. My audience is special. They are not the general public. If they were the general public I would be a lot wealthier. The "public eye" means getting stalked, harassed, viscously judged, and put in danger. If I do things in the future that gain notoriety, I will do them in spite of fame, not because of it. I am out for world domination, but not fame. (Interview for The Moaning Times, 2014 📝)
In real life (well, mostly online, but I mean: on this shared plane of existence), things play out slightly differently. The Venn diagram of “true blue fans” and “people who criticize EA" and "people who know way too much about EA” is a circle. The call is 100% coming from inside the Asylum, and I think EA rationally knows that. But here's the thing: no matter how many shows and meet-and-greets you've dressed up for, how many loving and supportive comments you've left, or how many family heirlooms you once pawned to purchase a copy of the not-for-sale 2003 DJ pressing of Enchant... the instant EA feels attacked, everyone is a saboteur and a bully until proven otherwise, and suspected treason is dealt with on the spot. One strike, you're out. Unfortunately for everyone involved, her threshold for bullying seems to be “any remotely thoughtless opinion from any stranger on the internet”.
It makes for outstanding human-interest entertainment... but it also sounds an awful lot like the unhealthy patterns of a person suffering from all sorts of PTSD. 🔍 So, please bear that in mind as you read through this write-up. It's easy to make EA out to be the sole villain, a paranoid and delusional drama queen, based on her extreme reactions to things that often “weren't that bad”. Anything can, in fact, be “that bad” when you're thrown back into the very worst moments of your existence every time your brain decides that the situation is even remotely similar.
PTSD takes over your rational mind and actively distorts your perception of reality. That can be how a person ends up impulse-reacting to “a few people expressing an unfavorable opinion” as if the entire internet had just ganged up on them with knives. Which makes their audience feel unjustly accused, which makes them hostile, which gives the person actual good reason to feel attacked... and so the cycle of hurt continues.
You know the games I play And the words I say When I want my own way You know the lies I tell When you've gone through hell And I say I can't stay You know how hard it can be To keep believing in me When everything and everyone Becomes my enemy, and when There's nothing more you can do I'm gonna blame it on you – It's not the way I wanna be I only hope that in the end You will see: It's the Opheliac in me... (“Opheliac”, 2006 🎵)
And YES, it is extremely regrettable to have this as a trigger, when you're a public figure and you're bound to receive more negative feedback than the average citizen. “It's what she signed up for”, “it comes with the territory” and all that jazz. I really don't think EA was unaware of that fact when she decided to become a musician, share her personal life, and form an intense parasocial bond with her audience. But maybe she underestimated how hard it would be to process and recover from.
Just because you expect something unpleasant to happen, doesn't mean your psyche will be ready to handle it when it does – or that you'll pick the best and most effective strategy to deal with it.

A MADHOUSE UNDER MARTIAL LAW: MARCHING INTO THE FORUM WARS

There are two sides to every story... except for this one! (“If I Burn”, 2012 🎵)
You may have noted the military imagery in EA's “Make a Fucking Choice” response post – “resign your post in the Asylum Army”! What do psychiatry and the military have in common? They're both institutions of top-down social control. 🔍 EA's mixed metaphor may be a bit clunky, but it did foreshadow the evolution of the Asylum – in terms of aesthetics and power dynamics – in the years that followed the FantineDormouse incident and the release of The Book.
EA's next big release after the Asylum book came in 2012. It was a new album, an outline of the soon-to-be Asylum musical, called Fight Like a Girl (FLAG for short). As the name suggests, the main mood was bellicose. Incidentally, in the interim years, EA's communication style generally became noticeably more combative, incendiary, and (within her own spaces) controlling.📝 You remember those quirky word filters on the forum, that would change “fan” to “muffin” and “bra” to “teacup holder”? They kind of took on a Nineteen-Eighty-Four-burlesque flavor when you realized that one filter automatically changed “Fischkopf” to “Liddell” - and that circumventing the rule to address her totally real last name would get you banned, as would any discussion of her family. (“Wikipedia, random internet sites and heresay are not credible sources.” - Mod reminder of forum rules, 2010.)
Also, you try sustaining a serious, grown-up conversation among concerned fans about how Emilie Autumn should “take ratsponsibility for her mistakes out of ratspect for her muffins”. Thus, the official Asylum forum kept a tight grip on overt criticism of EA's claims and actions.
The Emilie Autumn forum is a dystopian hell. Truth be told, when I decided to leave you could not do anything but gush about Emilie. Otherwise all of her extremist arse kissing fans will be down your throat, ripping you apart in seconds, if you so much as questioned her behaviour. So much for freedom of opinion, let alone the idea of creating a harmonious community for ‘outcasts’. Hahaha. (2014 🐀)
The word filter thing really wasn't a big deal – I'm just pointing it out as one goofy expression of EA's need to control the narrative and rhetoric, which became especially noticeable in those post-book, pre-FLAG years. By that point, EA's fuse had been shortened by near on half a decade of non-stop touring / recording / writing / promoting / adjusting to the pressure and demands of an ever-growing fanbase, while also dealing with a horrorshow of personal turmoil and health issues behind the scenes. In other words: she was done taking any shit, in any form, or humoring anyone's ridiculous feedback regarding anything.
To be fair, it was never her forte to begin with. Will it come as a shock if I tell you that EA doesn't have the greatest track record for successful collaborative work? Let's do a quick-cut montage!
EA's very first corporate sponsor was her mother's “Enchant Clothing & Costume” online store 🔍; she went on to claim that her mother was dead. She sessioned for Billy Corgan, that went super well. 🎵 She liked Courtney Love for a minute, but that didn't work out because she felt that Courtney only valued her for her pee. 📝 (It probably didn't help that in early 2006, while EA was recording her post-break-up-tell-all album about Corgan, C-Love was recording her post-rehab-redemption album with Corgan. 🔍 Either way, EA didn't seem to like Courtney anymore after that. Courtney likes her, though! 📝) The one artist EA has ever approached for a duet (and by approached, I mean she recorded a demo and threw the CD on stage when he played Chicago in 2004) was, of all people, Morrissey. That never came to pass, thank mercy 🔍 – this fandom has suffered enough. In 2005, EA recorded some haunting vocals and violins for a potential collab with the frontman of Attrition. When, three years later, they were used on one track 🎵 of Attrition's All Mine Enemies Whisper, she alleged 📝 that the recordings had been obtained from her under the false pretense of a different project, then hideously altered to sound “out of tune”, and used without her permission. She enlisted her fans to boycott the album and the band, and threatened legal action. Meanwhile, on LiveJournal and Attrition's message boards, band associates were appalled: according to them, EA had been aware of the project's nature from the start... and had been completely unreachable, even through her label, during the months of its development. (Besides, Attrition is a semi-obscure English darkwave band from the 80s, whose micro-distributed albums don't even have their own Wikipedia pages... so I wonder what EA was hoping to get out of that theoretical lawsuit. These people own nothing but vintage gain pedals!) The song “Cold Hard Cash” 🎤 by Angelspit (who contributed a remix to one of her EPs in 2008) may or may not be an EA diss track. 🐀 Back when indie jewelry brand RockLove (which now has licensing deals with Disney, Marvel, and DC) was still someone's bedroom project, their first drop was an EA-inspired collection 🔍, which appears in many early Opheliac photoshoots. The partnership was terminated on bad terms, for unclear reasons; the RockLove owner shared in a statement that EA had “drunk the cool-aid” of Trisol Guy's shady business practices, and that the two of them had been spamming her with “crazed angry message[s]” for days.
Why am I talking about this? Because it was precisely one such ill-fated business partnership that triggered the Great Asylum Secession.
One fine day of spring 2010, the owner of vegan make-up brand Aromaleigh popped onto the Asylum forum to announce that they were cutting ties with EA, with damning receipts of copy-pasted emails (lost to time). Basically, the brand had been sponsoring her for half a decade, and while Aromaleigh had been actively promoting her music and tours, EA hadn't exactly been returning the favor. (Indeed, the extent of EA's sponcon seemed to have been a banner link to their website on her front page, and a single “random drunken endorsement” LiveJournal post that kind of reads like satire📝, from 2005.)
EA responded by banning the owner's account, deleting the thread, and posting this flippant statement a few days later:
Dearest Plague Rats, To be honest, I have no idea of what the hell happened with Aromaleigh, and I don't care to find out – the whole drama is a complete mystery to me, as I've been away for months touring and have not been in contact with anyone. All I know is that I've been promoting the company for ages and have not asked them for anything in years. (...) Please focus on more interesting things. I am. (“Save the Drama...” forum post, March 2010)
Posts questioning her good faith in the conflict were deleted from the forum. Shortly thereafter, citing how prolific and labor-intensive the Asylum forum had grown, EA shut down all non-EA related subforums – which, among many other topics, included a pretty active thread about Aromaleigh products.
So one Plague Rat decided to create a separate, members-only forum 📝, where users could recreate some of the now-defunct off-topic threads... and also freely voice their critical opinions of EA's behavior without fear of backlash from mods or rabid stans. Thus, “The Reform” was born. (Reform [n]: amendment of what is defective, vicious, corrupt, or depraved.)
For a few weeks, the two-state solution seemed to work fine. And then word spread among forum mods and other diehard fans that there was this horrid other forum, where obsessive haters gathered to spew disgusting lies and vitriol about EA... and soon enough, it was bedlam in the Asylum.
Any explicit mention of the Reform was forbidden on the Asylum forum. Suspicion of participation in the Reform would get you banned. The party line was that The Reform was the enemy 🐀 – even though a number of people were active on both forums, because they liked freedom of expression almost as much as they liked EA. Double agents would lurk on the forum and report back with snark material; sycophants would infiltrate the Reform to identify traitors – much to the amusement of the “haters”, who mocked them and their ilk for “licking EA's pink sparkly boots”. There was no containing the seething, or the sass, among Asylum ranks.
Pretty soon, the insubordination spread to Tumblr. There was the “Ask the Reform” Q&A blog, where questioning fans could interact with “Rebel Rats”, get more details on past drama, and make up their own minds about the people EA called bullies.
And then, there were the “confession blogs”, which published anonymous submissions about EA, positive, negative or neutral, with little censorship. Finally, you didn't even have to pick a throw-away username on a private forum to voice your hottest / strangest / most controversial EA takes. Fans could vent, rant, lament, wonder, shitpost to their heart's content, anonymously. Obviously, given the context of frustration and censorship in the fandom, a lot of the first waves of confessions were EXTREMELY negative.
EA's acolyte Veronica managed to get the first one shut down. If memory serves, she misunderstood the confession blog format, and may have believed that all the posts on “Emilie Autumn Confessions” came from one or a small group of individuals. She was genuinely devastated, and wrote the blog admin to let them know that they were a terrible person who said terrible things. The admin was mortified, apologized profusely and deleted the blog of their own initiative. (Which goes to show that the concept did not come from cruel and malicious anti-fans, as detractors often claimed.)
But a new blog sprung up almost immediately, with a different mod team, and did not surrender. And much like in EA's own book, once the Plague Rats found out that they possessed the gift of speech... well, they really took to it.
Established in 2011 and passed on through generation after generation of mod teams to the present day, Wayward Victorian Confessions would turn out to be the longest-lived institution in the EA fandom. For over a decade now, through all the bleakest nights and dankest debacles of the Asylum, and despite its initial reputation as a troll den, WVC has acted as a kind of neutral ground and vox populi for the active fanbase and anti-fanbase. (The last nominally-active EA fansite to date, She Fights Like a Girl, is actually an offshoot of WVC: one of the old admins created it as a database to answer “frequently asked questions” about EA.)
Wayward Victorian Confessions has now outlived every other EA platform, official and unofficial. Were it not for the continued existence of the “troll den”, what little fan community survives in 2024 would be non-existent, plain and simple. To quote from late 20th century Canadian philosophy: isn't it ironic?
I feel like [WVC] is the only place I feel any of that old Asylum community kind of feeling I felt before EA got so focused on the book. It sucks that it’s so full of unhappiness, and I wish she hadn’t poisoned the sanctuary she claimed to have built. It’s just kind of fallen apart, like a crumbling building. (🐀 2016)

2024.05.09 22:05 PaulOwnzU The amount of dungeons and dragons slander I've been seeing from people who never played it is just depressing

So many people who clearly have no idea what dnd is about are just shtting on it on every post and I've seen the same points made each time and they're all just so wrong
"It's unpopular", its the biggest ttrpg and has more value than the top horror ips, the game baldurs gate 3, which is directly based on the gameplay and lore of dnd, just won game of the year
"It's not horror", the most popular non starter campaign for dnd 5e is Curse of Strahd, a "Gothic Horror" campaign, there are entire planes dedicated to eldritch horrors and tortures, last campaign I played it was full horror against an undead horde that ended with one of the players being turned immortal by the bbeg just to be revived and tortured after we lost. And my own campaign is currently in the shadowfell (what the upside down in Stranger Things is based on) and one of the players got eaten from the inside out by a Flesh Gait parasite. Sht is absolutely able to be horror, some people think just because its fantasy means it also can't be horror when that's a big subgenre.
"DND Vecna doesn't fit", we already have an undead knight, who is also dark fantasy, so how does a Lich not fit. Infact if dnd Vecna doesn't fit how does Stranger Things Vecna fit, ST Vecna was directly inspired by dnd Vecna, far more than just in name like with the Demo and Mindflayer. ST Vecna very much looks like an undead spellcastelich so by that logic neither fit
"It's just a board game", this ones just infuriating as someone playing for over 6 years online. Just because it CAN be played at an in person table, doesn't mean thats all it can be played as, you can play it fully theatre of the mind or digitally. One guy even said its just Monopoly but fantasy, these people have no idea how its played but see dice and figurines and think its just rolling some dice to move across the board and that's it.
"It hasn't made anything big or inspired anything", beyond the obvious bg3 that won goty being based on DND, Stranger Things, the things people have been sht talking dnd Vecna over, was inspired by DND and very likely wouldn't have existed without it, there's a bunch of other media outside the obvious other TTRPGS and direct spinoffs like dnd movies like Rick and Morty, Game of Thrones, New She-Ra drew inspiration, Gravity Falls and Owl House drew inspiration, Adventure Time, and a bunch of others that haven't been confirmed by the creators, however plenty others were also inspired by these pieces so those also wouldn't exist or would be vastly different if dnd didn't exist.
Sure these things aren't exactly horror, at most light horror at times, but many horror has and likely will come out inspired by these things. These are also just stuff very clearly DND like, there's likely plenty of people that were inspired by DND to create but made things vastly different so weren't asked about dnd.
It's just so infuriating seeing so many people downplay DND as "Just a board game" and not something that shaped the fantasy genre and inspired countless creators to create extremely popular pieces of media. People act like it's just some small game and don't even realize it's nearly (or possible has) made more money than all the other IP's combined
Being disappointed is fine, preferring Stranger Things is fine, but acting like DND doesn't deserve to be in the game is just ignorant

2024.05.07 15:47 A_N_F_18 Emirates reveals first routes for A350-900s

Emirates continues to inch closer to the start of their fleet renewal program as they announced the first routes their first A350-900s will fly on:

Takeaway: With a small initial A350-900 fleet to start Emirates is clearly focusing on shorter haul routes that will allow for aircraft familiarization. As their A350-900 fleet expands, it will be interesting to see the routes they put the plane on.

What's your take on this? What other routes do you think will eventually see the A350-900s?

2024.05.04 20:14 Dinamicio [PC] [Late 90s] Lineart side scrolling plane game

Hi guys. I am looking for a side scroller lineart game about a plane. It was very minimalistic and the background was black. I had it on a disc with other games (probably some sort of demo disc) on pc around 1999. I checked some YouTube videos about the MS-DOS games of that period but to no avail. Idk if it helps, but I remember that there was a tps called Esoterica (which I found) and a Motorboat/shooting game, which I also never managed to find. Thanks!

2024.05.04 12:43 Remarkable-Dot8225 How to get my wife to start respecting my boundary and being double standard all the time?

First off, I am diagnosed with severe adult ADHD and I have tried ADHD medication such as Ritalin but I have a family history of being very allergic to psychiatric medicine, so last time I had Ritalin, it gave me serious chills that leaves me with goosebumps for an entire day. And I have followed behavioral therapy taught by my CP that are useless to me when under stress. So keep the comment to yourself when you want to say something about how hard it is to baby-sit an ADHD adults. I am so done with these comments.
My wife and I came from Hong Kong where we used to have domestic helper do chores for us. Unfortunately, due to the high cost of living in California, it is barely within our budget to hire part-time helper 2 days each week.
I work remotely as a software engineer and I am the sole breadwinner of the house. My wife is supposedly a housewife, but I’d say without helpers, our chores division is about 30/70.
Basically, I do everything that requires heavy lifting and anything that involves poop. I am also a quite decent cook so I do 90% of cooking and would go out to eat at restaurants or get take out when busy.
She mainly washes dishes, do all the laundry, vacuuming the house when the helper isn’t here and takes care of the garden and her plants (which I seriously don’t give a —— about). Aside from that, she also teaches painting for 40 bucks one day per week for 2 hours and spend that money she made on Japanese lesson 2 hours each week as well.
My wife used to work at a marketing agency in Hong Kong for only $1200 a month like 8 years ago and sometimes she could even work up to 100 hours a week without OT compensation. So that’s why I vowed to make enough money over the years so she doesn’t have to ever work anymore and could give her abusive ex-boss who thought of her as a lowly creature a forever FU.
But over the years, she seemed to have forgotten what stress from work is actually like. Every single day without fail, she would either nag at me for putting my pants on the floor while she took up 90% of the places where we can hang out clothes on or nag at me for not putting away that butter or pepper after I finished cooking while she would feed me take out that she forgot to put in the fridge for 2 nights and got me sick.
She would also summon me so casually to compliment her when she catches a cool-looking pal in Palword, or when her plants sprout. A lot of time, she basically neglects the fact that I am actually working that I begin to think she just wants to send the message that she is more important than my work when I actually take her out at least 3 days per week. And it’s been more than at least 50 occasions over the past 3 years that she would scream until I answer her even though I was at a meeting demoing my work and one time she even walked naked behind me when I was on a zoom call and I could probably be fired from that if it wasn’t for the blurred background.
Whenever I decided to sit down to tell her to stop trying to summon me when I stop responding because I am likely at a zoom meeting, she would just shrugs it off. And when I actually get mad over this as this happens over and over, she would act like she is the victim and I have overreacted.
True, working remotely sometimes is super chill and about 20% of the times, I can finish work within 3 hours and spend the rest of the day derping around or voluntarily take her out for a mini-date (arcade, movie, shopping, etc). But sometimes when I’m on-call, I can get pinged all the time and sometimes you get scope creeps and have to even work the weekends.
Last week, she broke me.
We have a friend whom we knew back in Hong Kong during the legislative election 7 years ago, whom we both treated as a little sister (she was 16 year old when we knew her) called us for help because she wanted to end her life. Long story short, we both tried to give her hope and agreed to get her a plane ticket to come over so I can teach her how to code and helped her ditch her messed up past life dating drug dealers and working at night clubs as a hostess which started before she graduated from college for easy money. Both my wife and I are voluntary to talk to her for therapy at the mean time when she is feeling down while she’s waiting to get her B2 visa approved.
Two days ago, I was really busy having notifications all over the place as I am on-call and couldn’t concentrate on my actual work. I gave a lot of signals to our little sister that I need to step out after an hour chatting with her. And finally when I could step out and have some blockout time for my work, my wife asked me to snuggle her, and snuggling with her takes at least 10 minutes to get her emotionally satisfied. So I told her no, I am super busy. She got mad and got really nasty with me like I’m cheating on her.
Wife: WHY DID YOU PAY ATTENTION TO ANOTHER GORL FOR OVER AN HOUR BUT CANT EVEN SPARE ME 10 MINUTES???
ME: YOU ARE IN THIS, TOO! SHE IS SUPPOSED TO BE YOUR LITTLE SISTER AS MUCH AS MINE. AND YOU SEE HOW I KEPT SAYING “LETS TALK ABOUT THIS NEXT TIME” LIKE AT LEAST THREE TIMES TO HER. YOU CAN’T TELL I WAS HINTING THAT I AM BUSY?
Wife: IF YOUR WORK AND TIME IS THAT IMPORTANT, WHY DID YOU SPEND AN HOUR CHATTING WITH HER? WHERE’S YOUR DISCIPLINE YOU XXXXING HYPOCRITE?
She cornered me. I was speechless. I couldn’t explain myself at the time and I was shocked enough not being able to rationalize that my wife and I also had discussion about our little sis while talking to her. The only thing I could think of at that moment was how useless I was and I let my ADHD got the best of me and my wife was right about how unforgivable I was for procrastinated my work by listening to my little sister’s silly story on how she ended up dating a drug dealer…
She successfully guilt-tripped me and I felt really bad and also implosive enough I smashed my head on the wall over and over really hard until I broke my head bleeding all over the place.
I had a history of depression related to ADHD and that basically amplifies as an Asian and I have always had the tendency to be extremely self-critical (but extremely lenient on others as that’s probably how I would like to be treated deep in my heart) so I would inflict harm upon myself thinking I don’t meet expectation from others. So this feeling of getting cornered reminded me of my mom’s and teacher’s abuse when I couldn’t stay focus on my homework or get bad grades.
My wife eventually felt bad as she saw me bleeding all over the place and apologized for cornering me WHEN I AM BUSY (that means she still felt justified when I am not). And she admitted that she felt jealous about how I paid more attention to an almost-hooker that has bad taste in men and fashion-sense than her. Yes, I deep down felt the same way my wife describes our little sister, but to unreasonably equate her as an enemy with that kind of description and used that to her advantage against me really disgusted me and pains me. As I said, she is supposed to be my wife’s little sister as much as mine.
For over 10 years, I have loved my wife my whole life unconditionally striving to give her everything she wants. We had countless of arguments, and it is getting fewer by years. But this is the first time I think she truly broke my heart.
She is really giving me that vibe of superiority that we both used to really hate as one of the most important common value that we shared that got us together in the first place.
Right now, I just don’t know anymore. It’s the first time in my life I want to get my own boundary from her. If I ever get laid off again, I’d probably wish my next gig is in-person.
But meanwhile, how do I get my wife to respect my boundaries?

2024.05.03 07:51 RNGsus910 Holy strike and Lightning strike

Holy strike and Lightning strike
Lightning and holy strike are pretty much the exact same spells, atleast visually and audibly. most of the mechanic differences are so small that they really don't matter, once you start building stats you won't notice most of them. but because of a bug* if you go past the max range for HS the spell circle disappears, sometimes HS fires midair and deals no damage, sometimes it just doesn't fire at all. lightning strike doesn't have this problem and has a much higher range. yes, the spell range difference doesn't look like much in the video, but after engaging in insanity playing solo cleric for 450 hours, i can safely say that you can feel the range difference in your bones.
think back to the last time you were on a plane, your legs are being crushed because the person in front of you decides to fold their seat back, that's what it's like to use HS 9/10 times then think back to when you get off the plane and stretch your legs, that's LS every time
*Idk if it is a bug or intentional feature. if it is intentional, why is holy strike the only spell that has it?
0.8m, 0.4s cast delay, 30 base magic damage, 5 casts
1m aoe, 0.5s cast delay, 20 base magic damage, 4 casts
hopped into crypts just for spell demo

2024.05.02 12:24 SupaFasJellyFish Bad experience onboard

A few days ago, I was flying from Chicago to Dubai with my wife. We were excited to try Emirates, but instead ended up dealing with an unruly drunk passenger. He boarded drunk, kept harassing the flight attendants, kept pressing the call bell, sometimes 10 times in a row, demanding more vodka and wine. This continued for hours. He was in the window seat, so we had to deal with his poor manners, space invasions, booze-spilling (all over me), and loud arguments/ramblings with the flight attendants.
They finally moved us to the back of the plane, which was noisy and cramped. We paid extra to get better seats, so we were deprived of that. My wife has dietary restrictions, and they didn’t deliver her the right meal. We barely got any sleep and arrived frustrated.
I’m angry, because we paid a premium to fly on Emirates vs numerous other carriers, and support has yet to reply to our complaint. We really should have been given some sort of voucher right away for dealing with this.
I have lots of empathy for the attendants on board, who were just as impacted by his bad behavior. I’m disappointed in the airline, which is supposed to have top-notch customer service. I’ve had Delta, United and Southwest be far more proactively accommodating over much smaller inconveniences.
Has the golden era passed for Emirates?

2024.05.01 00:00 Late-Journalist-7180 Nameless X vs Gojira X for black metal.

I'm torn between these two for black/death metal but leaning more on the Nameless because it sounds more raw and agressive but with note definition based on the demos. Can someone change my mind!? I'm planing to try them but can't have both 🥲😂

2024.04.29 23:28 CheezeCrostata Whatever happened to that narrative-driven survival adventure where you're accompanied by an AI drone?

I remember it was reviewed by everyone and their grandma on yt just a couple of months ago. The framing device\ prologue was that the PC was flying a plane over a frozen tundra or whatever, supposedly delivering aid to someone, and he was accompanied by a ball-shaped floating robot. But then the plane kinda blew up and crashed. The PC and robot survived, spent the night in the wrecked plane, and went to explore the surrounding area in the morning, coming across a field of solar panels or something, and that's where the demo ended.
Is there nothing else on this game?
Edit: The game is Arctic Awakening, in case anyone wonders.

I am very interested in utilizing LLM for games, and I have seen some other people who are also interested. Since I don't see any good Godot plugin for this purposes, I decided to create my own: https://github.com/Adriankhl/godot-llm
It is a C++ gdextension addon built on top of llama.cpp (and planing to also integrate mlc-llm), so the dependencies are minimal - just download the zip file and place it in the addons folder. The addon will probably also be accessible from the asset library. Currently, it only support simple text generation, but I do have plans to add more features such as sentence embedding based on llama.cpp.
Check this demo project to see how the addon can be used: https://github.com/Adriankhl/godot-llm-template
I am quite new to the field (both Godot and LLM), any feedback is welcome 🦙
