Veterans administration peripheral neuropathy

Diabetes Mellitus II

2024.05.15 00:51 nurse-c-los Diabetes Mellitus II

I had a C&P exam around 6 weeks for diabetes (secondary) on a claim that was placed in 01/2023. I put in for diabetic neuropathy for all extremities about week ago on a new ITF (March 2024) and I just got notified of a C&P exam for the peripheral neuropathy.
Does this mean that the VA might be granting the diabetes or why else will they be willing to pay for an exam. Thanks.

2024.05.14 23:30 SuperordinateRevere The way the British media, King” Charles and “Prince” William have handled Prince Harry and Princess Meghan’s UK and Nigeria trip has irritated me.

This Article referenced in the link is unbelievably arrogant and ridiculous from the British and I would like to talk about why.
Before talking about that, that photo op between Charles and William with William getting a title he has never earned but Harry HAS earned made Charles and William look so petty and out of touch, then they briefed the press that Harry was in tears. Lmao what? How do they know? I doubt they spoke to him and I doubt very Windsor Harry would cry in front of them! I mean Harry definitely didn’t expect he’ll get that title anyway. After the last few successful days I seriously doubt he cares.
Also can we talk about how pathetic and desperate it is that Charles and William are hardly seen alone together in years but they will happily attend an engagement together if they think it’ll piss Harry off. They really do everything for an audience of one: Harry.
Then that false BS about their charity being labelled “delinquent” when it was just an administration error that wasn’t even their fault. This family and the media are sounding desperate. Even the Australian media joined in and talked about it like it’s a sign Harry and Meghan are suffering. The thing is most people aren’t paying attention like we are so they’ll believe it. After the royals pulled all those favours using dirty tactics, Harry shouldn’t hold back anymore imo.
Now let’s talk about how the British media, sanctioned by the palace, have handled the Nigerian visit and especially the article linked. So Charles wants to FORCE former British colonies to not invite Harry and Meghan to their country to promote an event that actually helps injured veterans? They really don’t give a crap about the people who have fought for their countries do they? They just want Harry humiliated and alone. They’re pissed that not attending the 10th anniversary service made them look worse than Harry especially after the Spencers joined Harry. The spencers don’t wear military uniforms like it’s a costume either. How petty and awful can you get?
Nowhere did the Sussexs call the visit a royal tour but the media called it that just to bash Harry and Meghan for “trying to profit from their titles”. Sweetheart they weren’t invited because Harry is Charles’ son, they were invited because he is Diana’s son and he has founded an amazing opportunity to help injured veterans who the Royal family obviously don’t give a crap about because they would rather it be unsuccessful just because Harry has founded it, even though that would only really hurt the veterans! Now that’s really awful but what has really annoyed me is how they’re talking about Nigeria though.
Nigeria like every other former British colony became independent decades ago. They can invite whoever they want to their own country. Britain is no longer an empire. Whether it is an African, Caribbean or South Asian country, you no longer own us you awful petty losers. It’s not even how they’re treating Meghan and Harry that has angered me (because I expect that), it’s how the media and the royal family still talk as if they own us all in some way. Us being those from the former colonies in general.
Also the level of racism in those articles is this crazy! This is just how these counties are talked about in Britain. It’s not just the African countries that endure this type of racism, the Asian countries have to endure it too! Meghan is right to stay away and keep those kids away too!
I hope more powerful commonwealth countries like India invite Harry and Meghan. We need to show this family and the country as a whole that they’re a little island off the coast of Europe. They no longer have the power to make us do anything.
Ok am I alone in this or has this irritated anyone else whose ancestry stems from a former British colony?

2024.05.14 23:27 AiryAerie Post 1.0, how are we holding up?

Firstly: thanks to Dina for kindly unbanning me from this sub. If this worries you to hear, fret not: my ban was from long before the sub changed hands and back when it was... uh... ran more like the official Discord, I guess you could say. Got a bit frisky with some of the diehard supporters after Jao first reneged on his promise of Kickstarter rewards being "exclusive" and decided that, actually, everybody deserves to play as everything. I'm sure some of you know how it goes.
Secondly: if there happen to be any who remember my name, hello fellow veterans. It's been a while, hasn't it? Who would have thought that in 2019, four and a bit years ago, we would eventually find ourselves here?
Thirdly: if you don't recognise me, then hello, hi, I'm Airy, an idiot who initially backed at $30 and then bought those spare $200 keys they had.
Fourthly, if you remember me from the Discord: I did tell you all that the game was going to head this way after Jao kicked me from the mod team and banned me on the Discord, after telling him to his face he was running his moderation team into the ground by stirring up constant drama and refusing to just... I dunno, develop his game? Please know it brings me no joy to see how right I was that he would constantly make a victim of himself and sell the story that he's just "unfairly hated" by people, but I'm not surprised by it, either.
I mean, what did we expect from the man who happily announced in his Discord that he thought YandereDev was one of his idols and that YanDev's "Hate and Shame" video was a perfect description of what he was going through? (And have you seen the YandereDev stuff recently? If you haven't... maybe don't look it's kind of nasty actually.)
How are we all doing here? For those of you somehow still playing, especially given that the 1.0 update seemed to trend towards being absolutely unplayable even on top end rigs, are you pleased with the updates? For those still playing who were KS backers, do you think you got your money's worth these four and a half long years later? I'm asking genuinely, by the way. I think the game's a garbage fire of the highest order, developed by somebody who constantly invokes the name of his dead father to try and illicit sympathy from people he's swindled both financially and in terms of stealing their time, but I'm in the unique position of having been in voice calls with the man behind the scenes and witnessing first hand how this was all going to go down about, oh, three years ago. Needless to say that any take I'd have on the game would be a little bit biased, let alone if asked my opinion of the man himself. So I'm curious how the rest of you are doing, if you feel you've been robbed or if you think you've gotten your money's worth. Where you think the issues lie, if you think there are any. Is 1.0 everything you wanted it to be? Or is it every nightmare you wished the game would avoid becoming?
I will say, credit to the moderation team on this sub for grabbing a hold of it after it got effectively taken around the back of the shed for a while. Moderating regular communities without the baggage this one has can be unforgiving, moderating communities like this one where everything is so polarised is arguably far worse and you might have to be a little insane to voluntarily do it. I respect it, though. We're mostly all here for the same reason: we thought this game could be good, and were blatantly lied to. The commitment to keeping a singular space open and uncensored given the penchant for the official's rather problematic management is a noble one. Hats off to you.
Man y'all remember when I made that big post when it was first revealed Jao was walking back his promise of Kickstarter exclusives? Good times, good times. Do you ever look at some (not all, but some) of the promised new dragons and almost miss those goofy, silly Unreal assets? All that time spent, sitting by the oasis, chatting because chatting was the only thing you could do, having a great time being excited for what this game had the potential to become? Man I miss those times. So innocent, so naive, so hopeful. Did any of you move on to Century: Age of Ashes after this fiasco? Can you believe in the span of four years we've watched two really promising dragon games get ruined by mismanagement, incompetent development teams, unfixed bugs and really bad Discord administration teams? I'd joke "How much do we have to pay for a good dragon game" but I think we'd all run out of money before we got one. Maybe we should go back to games like Spyro or something.

2024.05.14 22:26 Emergency_Page3122 Army HRC administrative error has retroactively discredited 3 years of my service.

After 20 years of exemplary Army service I was notified in DEC 2023 that an administrative error by the Army Human Resources Command (HRC) removed 3 eligible years of service towards my retirement. HRC has acknowledged this and apologized, yet the only recourse provided is to initiate a 2 year 'board' process to review and then (hopefully) have my service years restored. I should be retirement eligible today, but have in effect been told I must serve an additional 3 years or wait an additional 2 years to correct the HRC issue. There has been no guidance for what happens to my family and our earned benefits should something happen to me during this time and no assurances that this will resolve at all in 2 years. I am being forced to continue service just to reach a retirement eligible mark I have already reached, while being told on paper that 3 years of training, deployments, honorable service, never happened.

I'm losing these 3 years of retirement eligible service from my record due to a change of my assigned AYE ("Anniversary Date”). A date assigned to me annually for nearly 20 years until December 2023. This became especially relevant when I transitioned from Active Duty to the Army Reserves in 2015. Every year the HRC assigned of 8/26 date informed all joint decisions and requirements between my military units regarding Annual Training, Deployments, Drill Periods, my family planning, work schedules, etc. This was always a joint effort to ensure requirements fell into, and were completed, within the ‘Good Year’ (8/26) as established by HRC.

The retroactive consequences in changing my AYE is catastrophic as it has the immediate effect of administratively discrediting three valid and undisputed (‘Good’) years of service towards my retirement by redistributing dates and time served during the 8 year period (2015-2023). What were ‘good’ (at least 50 points) years since 2015 with the 8/26 date: 2016 (50 points), 2019 (89 Points), 2020 (52 Points), 2021 (50 Points)Suddenly became 3 uncredited (less than 50 points) years with the new 5/04 date: 2016 (45 points), 2019 (49 points), 2020 (99 points), 2021 (48 points).

HRC (thru the IG) has acknowledged that there is no statutory or regulatory guidance that allows a change in AYE date to apply retroactively, particularly in discrediting years of service on what they also call, and is defined as the 'permanent record.' I'm told the staff 'interprets' the regulation to allow them to discredit my service going back 8 years. The recourse I'm offered is what they say specifically is the "2-year" Records Board review process

I have served honorably for over 2 decades, almost half of this time overseas. I am a combat and service-disabled veteran and continue to serve honorably in the Army Reserves. I have never been in trouble and I have never had an adverse action. Now, my family and I are treated as if 3 years of our service never happened - and I'm forced in effect to remain in service to re-earn years I have already earned.

I've reached out to congresswoman (no response); HRC IG (does not care); my unit (does not understand). I would think any decision maker would look at this and have a realistic COA in place in minutes. What can I do?!??

Dachau 1945: The Souls of All Are Aflame

The Dachau concentration camp was opened in 1933 in a former gunpowder factory. The first prisoners interred there were political opponents of Adolf Hitler, who had become German chancellor that same year. During the twelve years of the camp's existence, over 200,000 prisoners were brought there. The majority of prisoners at Dachau were Christians, including Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Orthodox clergy and lay people.
Countless prisoners died at Dachau, and hundreds were forced to participate in the cruel medical experiments conducted by Dr. Sigmund Rascher. When prisoners arrived at the camp they were beaten, insulted, shorn of their hair, and had all their belongings taken from them. The SS guards could kill whenever they thought it was appropriate. Punishments included being hung on hooks for hours, high enough that heels did not touch the ground; being stretched on trestles; being whipped with soaked leather whips; and being placed in solitary confinement for days on end in rooms too small to lie down in.
The abuse of the prisoners reached its end in the spring of 1945. The events of that Holy Week were later recorded by one of the prisoners, Gleb Rahr. Rahr grew up in Latvia and fled with his family to Nazi Germany when the Russians invaded. He was arrested by the Gestapo because of his membership in an organization that opposed both fascism and communism. Originally imprisoned in Buchenwald, he was transported to Dachau near the end of the war.
In fact, Rahr was one of the survivors of the infamous “death trains,” as they were called by the American G.I.’s who discovered them. Thousands of prisoners from different camps had been sent to Dachau in open rail cars. The vast majority of them died horrific deaths from starvation, dehydration, exposure, sickness, and execution.
In a letter to his parents the day after the liberation, G.I. William Cowling wrote, “As we crossed the track and looked back into the cars the most horrible sight I have ever seen met my eyes. The cars were loaded with dead bodies. Most of them were naked and all of them skin and bones. Honest their legs and arms were only a couple of inches around and they had no buttocks at all. Many of the bodies had bullet holes in the back of their heads.”
Marcus Smith, one of the US Army personnel assigned to Dachau, also described the scene in his 1972 book, The Harrowing of Hell.
Refuse and excrement are spread over the cars and grounds. More of the dead lie near piles of clothing, shoes, and trash. Apparently some had crawled or fallen out of the cars when the doors were opened, and died on the grounds. One of our men counts the boxcars and says that there are thirty-nine. Later I hear that there were fifty, that the train had arrived at the camp during the evening of April 27, by which time all of the passengers were supposed to be dead so that the bodies could be disposed of in the camp crematorium. But this could not be done because there was no more coal to stoke the furnaces. Mutilated bodies of German soldiers are also on the ground, and occasionally we see an inmate scream at the body of his former tormentor and kick it. Retribution!
Gates of Dachau Concentration Camp
Rahr was one of the over 4,000 Russian prisoners at Dachau at the time of the liberation. The liberated prisoners also included over 1,200 Christian clergymen. After the war, Rahr immigrated to the United States, where he taught Russian History at the University of Maryland. He later worked for Radio Free Europe. His account of the events at Dachau in 1945 begins with his arrival at the camp:
April 27th: The last transport of prisoners arrives from Buchenwald. Of the 5,000 originally destined for Dachau, I was among the 1,300 who had survived the trip. Many were shot, some starved to death, while others died of typhus. . . .
April 28th: I and my fellow prisoners can hear the bombardment of Munich taking place some 30 km from our concentration camp. As the sound of artillery approaches ever nearer from the west and the north, orders are given proscribing prisoners from leaving their barracks under any circumstances. SS-soldiers patrol the camp on motorcycles as machine guns are directed at us from the watch-towers, which surround the camp.
April 29th: The booming sound of artillery has been joined by the staccato bursts of machine gun fire. Shells whistle over the camp from all directions. Suddenly white flags appear on the towers—a sign of hope that the SS would surrender rather than shoot all prisoners and fight to the last man. Then, at about 6:00 p.m., a strange sound can be detected emanating from somewhere near the camp gate which swiftly increases in volume. . . .
The sound came from the dawning recognition of freedom. Lt. Col. Walter Fellenz of the US Seventh Army described the greeting from his point of view:
Several hundred yards inside the main gate, we encountered the concentration enclosure, itself. There before us, behind an electrically charged, barbed wire fence, stood a mass of cheering, half-mad men, women and children, waving and shouting with happiness—their liberators had come! The noise was beyond comprehension! Every individual (over 32,000) who could utter a sound, was cheering. Our hearts wept as we saw the tears of happiness fall from their cheeks.
Rahr’s account continues:
Finally all 32,600 prisoners join in the cry as the first American soldiers appear just behind the wire fence of the camp. After a short while electric power is turned off, the gates open and the American G.I.’s make their entrance. As they stare wide-eyed at our lot, half-starved as we are and suffering from typhus and dysentery, they appear more like fifteen-year-old boys than battle-weary soldiers. . . .
An international committee of prisoners is formed to take over the administration of the camp. Food from SS stores is put at the disposal of the camp kitchen. A US military unit also contributes some provision, thereby providing me with my first opportunity to taste American corn. By order of an American officer radio-receivers are confiscated from prominent Nazis in the town of Dachau and distributed to the various national groups of prisoners. The news comes in: Hitler has committed suicide, the Russians have taken Berlin, and German troops have surrendered in the South and in the North. But the fighting still rages in Austria and Czechoslovakia. . . .
Naturally, I was ever cognizant of the fact that these momentous events were unfolding during Holy Week. But how could we mark it, other than through our silent, individual prayers? A fellow-prisoner and chief interpreter of the International Prisoner's Committee, Boris F., paid a visit to my typhus-infested barrack—“Block 27”—to inform me that efforts were underway in conjunction with the Yugoslav and Greek National Prisoner's Committees to arrange an Orthodox service for Easter day, May 6th.
There were Orthodox priests, deacons, and a group of monks from Mount Athos among the prisoners. But there were no vestments, no books whatsoever, no icons, no candles, no prosphoras, no wine. . . . Efforts to acquire all these items from the Russian church in Munich failed, as the Americans just could not locate anyone from that parish in the devastated city. Nevertheless, some of the problems could be solved. The approximately four hundred Catholic priests detained in Dachau had been allowed to remain together in one barrack and recite mass every morning before going to work. They offered us Orthodox the use of their prayer room in “Block 26,” which was just across the road from my own “block.”
The chapel was bare, save for a wooden table and a Czenstochowa icon of the Theotokos hanging on the wall above the table—an icon which had originated in Constantinople and was later brought to Belz in Galicia, where it was subsequently taken from the Orthodox by a Polish king. When the Russian Army drove Napoleon's troops from Czenstochowa, however, the abbot of the Czenstochowa Monastery gave a copy of the icon to czar Alexander I, who placed it in the Kazan Cathedral in Saint-Petersburg where it was venerated until the Bolshevik seizure of power. A creative solution to the problem of the vestments was also found. New linen towels were taken from the hospital of our former SS-guards. When sewn together lengthwise, two towels formed an epitrachilion and when sewn together at the ends they became an orarion. Red crosses, originally intended to be worn by the medical personnel of the SS guards, were put on the towel-vestments.
On Easter Sunday, May 6th (April 23rd according to the Church calendar)—which ominously fell that year on Saint George the Victory-Bearer's Day—Serbs, Greeks and Russians gathered at the Catholic priests’ barracks. Although Russians comprised about 40 percent of the Dachau inmates, only a few managed to attend the service. By that time “repatriation officers” of the special Smersh units had arrived in Dachau by American military planes, and begun the process of erecting new lines of barbed wire for the purpose of isolating Soviet citizens from the rest of the prisoners, which was the first step in preparing them for their eventual forced repatriation.
In the entire history of the Orthodox Church there has probably never been an Easter service like the one at Dachau in 1945. Greek and Serbian priests together with a Serbian deacon wore the make-shift “vestments” over their blue and gray-striped prisoner’s uniforms. Then they began to chant, changing from Greek to Slavonic, and then back again to Greek. The Easter Canon, the Easter Sticheras—everything was recited from memory. The Gospel—“In the beginning was the Word”—also from memory.
And finally, the Homily of Saint John Chrysostom—also from memory. A young Greek monk from the Holy Mountain stood up in front of us and recited it with such infectious enthusiasm that we shall never forget him as long as we live. Saint John Chrysostomos himself seemed to speak through him to us and to the rest of the world as well! Eighteen Orthodox priests and one deacon—most of whom were Serbs—participated in this unforgettable service. Like the sick man who had been lowered through the roof of a house and placed in front of the feet of Christ the Savior, the Greek Archimandrite Meletios was carried on a stretcher into the chapel, where he remained prostrate for the duration of the service.
Other prisoners at Dachau included the recently canonized Bishop Nikolai Velimirovich, who later became the first administrator of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the US and Canada; and the Very Reverend Archimandrite Dionysios, who after the war was made Metropolitan of Trikkis and Stagnon in Greece.
Fr. Dionysios had been arrested in 1942 for giving asylum to an English officer fleeing the Nazis. He was tortured for not revealing the names of others involved in aiding Allied soldiers and was then imprisoned for eighteen months in Thessalonica before being transferred to Dachau. During his two years at Dachau, he witnessed Nazi atrocities and suffered greatly himself. He recorded many harrowing experiences in his book Ieroi Palmoi. Among these were regular marches to the firing squad, where he would be spared at the last moment, ridiculed, and then returned to the destitution of the prisoners’ block.
After the liberation, Fr. Dionysios helped the Allies to relocate former Dachau inmates and to bring some normalcy to their disrupted lives. Before his death, Metropolitan Dionysios returned to Dachau from Greece and celebrated the first peacetime Orthodox Liturgy there. Writing in 1949, Fr. Dionysios remembered Pascha 1945 in these words:
In the open air, behind the shanty, the Orthodox gather together, Greeks and Serbs. In the center, both priests, the Serb and the Greek. They aren't wearing golden vestments. They don't even have cassocks. No tapers, no service books in their hands. But now they don't need external, material lights to hymn the joy. The souls of all are aflame, swimming in light.
Blessed is our God. My little paper-bound New Testament has come into its glory. We chant “Christ is Risen” many times, and its echo reverberates everywhere and sanctifies this place.
Hitler's Germany, the tragic symbol of the world without Christ, no longer exists. And the hymn of the life of faith was going up from all the souls; the life that proceeds buoyantly toward the Crucified One of the verdant hill of Stein.
On April 29, 1995—the fiftieth anniversary of the liberation of Dachau—the Russian Orthodox Memorial Chapel of Dachau was consecrated. Dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ, the chapel holds an icon depicting angels opening the gates of the concentration camp and Christ Himself leading the prisoners to freedom. The simple wooden block conical architecture of the chapel is representative of the traditional funeral chapels of the Russian North. The sections of the chapel were constructed by experienced craftsmen in the Vladimir region of Russia, and assembled in Dachau by veterans of the Western Group of Russian Forces just before their departure from Germany in 1994. The priests who participated in the 1945 Paschal Liturgy are commemorated at every service held in the chapel, along with all Orthodox Christians who lost their lives “at this place, or at another place of torture.”

2024.05.13 23:55 rebecca-emilie I’m burning out in my business but it’s not the job it’s the clients

I’m a nail tech and beautician, I’ve built a steady business I’m always fully booked a few weeks in advance and have very few slow weeks, i am however a people pleaser and for the first few years fostered a ‘it’s no problem you are late’ or , I’ll squeeze you into my already bursting 12 hour day because you can’t manage your diary,’ and I have a lack of boundaries too so I know I’m the biggest problem. I’ve got peripheral neuropathy in my hands and feet from poorly managed diabetes again my own doing not looking for sympathy however I want to take a step back from nails because up to 2 hours of doing nails 5 to 6 times a day is hurting a lot. And I have a few scary crazy clients too who need a psychiatrist appointment not a nail one and I’m struggling to cope with their draining moods and seriously messed up stories and sagas - anyway I guess what I’m asking is how do I tell the ones I don’t want anymore that I can’t do their nails I also invested heavily in aesthetics training to accompany facial treatments and this side of the business is a pleasure short appointments very little strain on my body or hands and old like to grow this side of my business but I guess I feel fear that I don’t know how to tell the ones I want rid of good bye while also promoting my aesthetics treatments on social media. All very first world I know but I’m autistic and find it very difficult to navigate these situations and I had a client who was late today that I was rude to because I’m getting so wound up and anxious I’m forgetting to be mindful of my bluntness I have apologised and honestly don’t care if she comes back because she has been annoying for a long time she doesn’t respect the very few boundaries I do put in place which is why I think I was blunt with her about being late. Anyway I will stop now before I digress onto other annoyances. Please dont be mean in the comments, I’m very grateful for the clients I have and am aware we are in a recession but I also offer an exceptional service which isn’t rivalled locally to me so they get a lot from me including flexibility but I have a number of people who abuse that and that’s who I’m referring to.

Disability review question
Does anyone know about how long it takes to get an answer when it says this? I had my follow up appointment for what they missed 2 weeks ago. Just wondering because back pay would really help me out right now. Been taking care of my mother who had lung cancer and she passed away last week and my family and I are in a jam. Thanks so much

2024.05.13 20:39 MeanAsk8995 I'm out of here, here is why.

So I saw a second neurologist today. Why I saw two has to do with insurance. I had seen her PA before, but she wanted me to come in and see the doctor so she could perform a skin punch biopsy to check for small fiber neuropathy. Since I came in anyway she went ahead and performed a clinical for good measure. She said there is absolutely no indication in my clinical of ALS at all. This is the third time I've been told that by a MD. Only thing in my clinical that came back abnormal was on the vibration test I lost the sensation before the vibration was over. She said this has to do with peripheral nerves and actually points away from ALS, don't even let it bother me. In fact in relation to ALS she said that I need to"let it go, its not that, I promise". She did say that would be consistent with small fiber neuropathy, which is what she's suspecting at this point.
So, I'm out of here. I see people on here who have been twitching for 6 months, 2 years, 4 years that are still deep in fear and obsession over ALS, and who refuse to believe their doctors when they say they are ok. It honestly seems like a mental addiction. And yes, I know it's because a lot of you have other symptoms besides twitching. I do too. I'm only 2 months into this and I realize I cannot let this be my life. If I happen to get ALS and I'm wrong, what am I going to do about it anyway? I'm so tired of letting this consume my mind. I appreciate a lot of you guys, but for me the constant seeking of reassurance and even the more positive posts on here are all just feeding into a cycle of anxiety in the long run for me. I know my weaknesses and it's not healthy to continue on like this. Not to mention several doctors have said things that are in complete opposition to things that I have heard on here. And I know all of us have spent tons of time reading research articles so we think we know our stuff, but at the end of the day I'm choosing to believe my doctors who actually see people with ALS in person , and diagnose people. Like I said if they are all wrong, then I can't do anything about it anyway. I want to live my life in the meantime. If I happen to get a diagnosis of any type I'll hop back on here and update everyone. I would encourage you all to get off Google, get off reddit, stop feeding the constant need to check and reassure which is keeping you trapped in anxiety. I'm preaching to the choir here. Peace, yall!

Email template for the Governor’s Cabinet and the Legislature below.
Yes, it is long, but it captures a lot of our frustrations.
This subreddit has over 38,000 people. If even 1,000 people emailed all of these folks from Governor’s Cabinet, the Legislature, and Other State Leaders, they will definitely take notice.
THIS IS OUR MOMENT.
There are areas in this email template for you to customize, so please read through it.
I highly recommend Hotmail or Yahoomail. If you use Gmail, you may need to click “Tab” multiple times when entering in so many emails.
You may also wish to send a copy to your own manager, section chief, branch chief, Dept. Director, etc.

Dear California State Leaders,
I write to you today as a voter, taxpayer, constituent, and as a State of California employee. My ________years of dedicated work serves Californians every day because my role focuses on supporting _________.
I want to share my personal story and provide some facts and data about the Governor’s new June 17 RTO (Return to Office) arbitrary mandate. This mandate will cost taxpayers more during this budget deficit crisis and it is a poorly thought-out, one-size-fits-all, chaotic approach. According to the survey data from 110 State Departments, telework was a huge success for recruitment, productivity, morale, collaboration, and decreasing office space. This chaotic, mandatory, arbitrary RTO simply creates a long list of unnecessary problems. For all of the reasons outlined in this email, I strongly support Assemblyman Josh Hoover’s audit request.
My message is simple: Encourage the Governor to rescind the June 17 arbitrary RTO mandate. The decision for the frequency that employees should all meet in-person and collaborate should rest with those closest and most familiar with the work: individual Unit Managers. These managers know the true collaboration, mentorship, and operational needs of their individual teams. Individual Unit Managers should be allowed to make decisions on accordingly to carry out the Department’s goals and mission. This is the bottoms-up approach that balances the needs of both the employer and employees. The Governor’s mandate and top-down approach fails to acknowledge the many financial and environmental repercussions to not only its own employees, but also to the State of California.
I want to share my personal story as a working class, public servant. With high inflation, I simply cannot afford to shoulder the cost of commuting, which averages $8,466 annually.. According to this 2023 LAO (Legislative Analyst Office) report, for most employees, our State provided wages have consistently been lower than the inflation rate, year-after-year, since 1999, constantly eroding our purchasing power. Other employees have it worse, such as scientists who have had their salaries be frozen for 4 years since 2020 as CalHR has refused to budge on reaching a contract. Purchasing power is a key metric since a $50,000 salary in 2024 buys far less than in 1999. This 2023 UC Berkeley Labor Center report confirmed that “State workers struggle to make ends meet throughout California.” Even the 2023 California State Auditor reports “that hiring and retaining qualified IT staff is the greatest challenge that they [State Departments] currently face.”
If the State is unwilling to provide market wages that keep up with inflation, the state can recruit and retain employees by improving working conditions, such as telework. Being allowed to telework 5 days a week has helped stretch my limited dollars, especially in this inflationary period. This arbitrary RTO mandate is effectively yet another pay cut for me that I simply cannot afford.
Personally, having the opportunity to telework 5 days a week has dramatically improved my quality of life by:
#############################################################
Tell them why the RTO issue is important to you, your family member and your community.
IF YOU DISCUSS CHILD CARE, ONLY TALK ABOUT THE HOURS BEFORE AND AFTER WORK. DO NOT DISCUSS CHILD CARE DURING YOUR REGULAR 8-5 JOB.
###########################################################
  1. I have saved ____ hours on my roundtrip commute per week. This has allowed me to reinvest that time toward _____. [helping my kids with their homework, taking care of elderly relatives ]
  2. I have saved $___ on commuting costs, which has helped me better afford ___ for me and my family. This has been especially helpful because high inflation has negatively affected me by _____.
  3. By teleworking, I am reducing my environmental impact and contribution to climate change, which is _____
  4. I have a physical disability and telework is more accommodating than using public transportation, etc. (Feel free to expand on it)
  5. I do not live in an area with access to efficient public transportation, so teleworking helps by _____
  6. For childcare during before and after work hours, it would cost me ________.
The State will incur many financial and environmental costs:
  1. If even 33%, or 73,086 out of the 221,474 State employees use the monthly maximum IRS public transportation benefit,) that would cost the State $276.3 million every single year.
  2. State Departments already spend $600 million per year on rent. Many State Departments also simply do not have enough office space for all of their employees currently. There is nowhere near enough quiet conference room space for employees to hold confidential meetings with stakeholders. Will these departments sign new leases for office space?
  3. State Departments will be forced to buy many millions of dollars worth of additional office equipment for employees to effectively carry out their jobs including additional webcams, headsets, keyboards, standard office supplies, etc.
  4. Pursuant to the reasonable accommodation process for employees with verified medical needs, State Departments will need to purchase other expensive equipment, including but not limited to specialized chairs and stand up desks.
    1. It is important to note that many employees have already invested their own money into equipping their own home office that best meets their needs. It is not simply not possible to ask an employee to bring in their own large equipment from home to the office and back, so the State Departments would incur these additional purchases.
  5. State Departments will be spending much more in maintenance costs for elevators, bathroom repairs, printer repairs, electricity, water, gas, and other utilities.
  6. State telework has also eliminated nearly 400,000 metric tons of carbon emissions. Mandating RTO will needlessly cause more carbon emissions, which directly runs counter to the Governor’s own words for his trip to the Vatican: “global temperatures [are] hurtling towards alarming new heights, the stakes could not be higher. There is no greater authority than moral authority — and the Pope’s leadership on the climate crisis inspires us all to push further and faster.”
The arbitrary mandatory RTO causes chaos among State Departments:
Across various departments, it’s common knowledge that a sizable number of executive-level leaders do not reside near Sacramento and instead live in other regions in California, such as the Bay Area and Southern California.
  1. The next logical question is, will the state offer these executive-level leaders special exemptions and privileges not available to rank and file staff and risk the hypocrisy that undermines the Governor’s stated policy for more “collaboration?” This creates another “rules for thee, but not for me” situation.
  2. Or will the State risk losing these executive-level leaders en masse across numerous departments, undermining policy and program implementation?
  3. For Departments considering exempting those who live over 50 miles away, it also destroys employee morale. For example, a 20 year veteran staff member with technical expertise may be forced to commute and come into the office twice a week to train a newer employee over Microsoft Teams or Zoom simply because they live in Los Angeles. This naturally breeds frustration and resentment.
  4. For exempted employees who live over 50 miles away, some Departments are creating policies that their 5 day remote status only applies to their currently held position, so these employees are “forever stuck” and cannot promote upward, even if they have the expertise the Department needs.
  5. The State is starting to open itself up to lawsuits as some Departments are already denying reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities.
  6. Being able to recruit employees from areas other than Sacramento helps ensure Departments get perspectives from different counties all across the State. People from rural, suburban, and urban areas all have different experiences and to best serve ALL Californians, we need a geographically diverse workforce.
  7. As previously stated, many Departments already do not have the office space or needed equipment for all of their employees. With RTO, new equipment will be needed and purchasing equipment notoriously takes a long time. These factors, combined with many departments trying to implement a hoteling system, will ultimately result in a extremely chaotic return-to-the-office and tank productivity. Many Departments have held Q&A sessions and time and time again, HR offices have been unable to answer basic questions about RTO logistics.
Some state employees have discussed that this is their number one quality-of-life issue and may galvanize them to start engaging with media contacts and spread the hypocrisy on social media. Their goal is to highlight the glaring mismatch and hypocrisy between CA’s proud public policies and the actual reality of choices being made by this Administration. Quite frankly, I fear that this may hurt the Governor and other State Leaders in the future. By unilaterally imposing an arbitrary RTO mandate across the board, the Administration is actively choosing to make working class public servant’s lives worse off, so I understand my colleague’s sentiments.
As MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow recently stated to her own bosses, “Hearing legitimate criticism, responding to it and correcting course. Not digging in, not blaming others. Take a minute, acknowledge that maybe it wasn’t the right call. It is a sign of strength, not weakness, to acknowledge when you are wrong.”
To reiterate, my request is simple: Encourage the Governor to rescind the arbitrary, mandatory, one-size-fits-all, chaotic RTO mandate. Allow individual Unit Managers the flexibility to enact telework policies that best meet their team’s needs to effectively carry out the Department’s mission. They are the ones closest to the work and the ones most knowledgable about what the team needs to succeed.
I respectfully request a response within ten business days.
Respectfully yours,
_________

2024.05.13 18:00 RoughRidersRecruiter [A3][NA/AU][Recruiting] Rough Riders: Accessible Milsim Dedicated to Storytelling Recruiting

Before you read any further, check out our Unit Culture Primer to see what we’re all about.
NATO JOINT SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMAND
US CENTCOM
OPERATION AGAMEMNON
3D COMBINED JOINT TASK FORCE “ROUGH RIDERS”
The 3rd Combined Joint Task Force, colloquially known as the Rough Riders, is a special purpose task force created by NATO JSOC with the intent of deterring CSAT influence in the Mediterranean and abroad. Falling under US Central Command, the Rough Riders are a unit hand picked from volunteers across all NATO/ANZUS operating forces. Typically, the Rough Riders are attached to conventional NATO forces to serve as force multipliers. They specialize in Direct Action, Counter-Insurgency, Special Reconnaissance, and forward observation for NATO fire support assets.
What we do:
The year is 2029, and the world stands poised for great change. With rising tensions in the Middle East and the Pacific, a new world power has emerged: the Canton protocol Strategic Alliance (CSAT). Premiered by China and Iran, this new treaty organization stands poised to threaten NATO's long-reigning global military hegemony. A new Cold War has begun.
In the face of this new threat, NATO Joint Special Operations Command has authorized the formation of a special purpose unit to directly intervene against CSAT’s growing sphere of influence. As a member of the Rough Riders, you will witness firsthand the years leading up to ArmA 3’s “The East Wind” campaign and the vibrant political climate of 2035. Your actions and the actions of your brothers in arms will tell the story of NATO defiance in the face of CSATs rise to power. You’ll have epic tales to tell, comrades to mourn, and more than enough action.
In the Rough Riders, we put storytelling and fun at the forefront. With a wonderful team of Game Masters and Writers, we aim to give you those “movie moments” and incredible stories of heroism, intense combat, and even hilarity when ArmA decides to ArmA somebody (or all of us).
What can I expect from the Rough Riders?
What do the Rough Riders expect from me?
What does “Accessible Milsim” mean?
In the Rough Riders, we've built our community around making the junior enlisted experience as drama-free as possible. We believe that solid milsim operations can still work without suffocating our enlisted with constricting MOS systems and countless hours of basic training. The idea is that new members can join the unit, download the mods and jump right into the action.
This is made possible by increasingly serious levels of milsim orientation the further up the chain of command you go. Your average player can jump right into fun and challenging operations if their Fireteam and Squad Leaders have the adequate training and mentality. By volunteering to try for a leadership position, you increase your commitment and seriousness level.
Accessible milsim means that you choose the level of dedication and milsim seriousness that you want. From casually showing up to be boots on the ground blowing stuff up, to managing training and combat leadership, all the way to the paperwork simulator that comes with an officer commission.
You get out what you put in.
Training:
You don't need to be a grizzled ArmA veteran to join the Rough Riders. Our simple training program is intended to bring even brand new players up to speed without killing them with boredom. You can expect to learn the following:
- TFAR Setup
- Rough Riders Intro (who we are, what we do, expectations-both ways)
- Intro to Unit Life (who you are, what you'll be doing as a new member, chain of command)
- Role Interest Declaration (helps us shape and personalize your training)
- ArmA Basics
- ACE Basics
- TFAR Basic Training
- Common Sense Combat/Fireteam Training
- CQB Basic Training
Between deployments, we do a garrison rotation that is focused on catching any new members up to speed and helping veteran members and NCOs grow and improve. The Hebontes schedule is a several week process. This allows for the writing/zeusing team to have time to create a quality deployment with all the necessary lore bits and planning considerations, while giving the unit time to relax and make mistakes in a controlled and learning-focused environment.
Opportunities:
Rough Riders members fill a multitude of roles, and are allowed to switch between them for different missions so long as they have passed the appropriate training. Roles available to Rough Riders are:
-**Rifleman/Designated Marksman
-AT/AA Specialist
- Automatic Rifleman
-Grenadier
-Radio Operator
-Combat Medic/ MEDEVAC Medic
-Combat Engineer
-Artilleryman/Fire Direction Officer
-Rotary-wing Aircraft Crew/Pilot
-Fixed-wing Aircraft Pilot
-IFV/APC Crew/Commander
-Media ReporteJournalist
-Zeus
Leadership opportunities are made available to interested members who are noted to possess technical competency and the ability to communicate effectively. Through a program we call the Warrior Leaders Course, NCO candidates are put to the test via a series of written and field exams. We have systems in place for leadership development too- so if you’re not ready to lead now (but want to), we can teach you how to be a leader.
Community members may join our writing/zeusing team and contribute to the development of our world in-game. It is expected that these individuals be team players overall, and be able to understand and support the bigger picture as determined by the administration team. At the end of the day it's about making sure the players had fun, and telling a memorable story/giving them opportunities to have stories about the operation- not about how cool you are as a Zeus.
**Designated Marksman/Sniper School is open to Rough Riders with a score of 38+ (Expert) on their Rifle Qual, who have achieved the rank of Lance Corporal. Members are eligible for promotion to Lance Corporal after one (1) full deployment with the unit.

2024.05.13 17:55 redsowhat More Is Not Always Better: Outdated Drug Dose Strategy in Breast Cancer

Copied from article (link below also):
“Despite decades of progress in cancer treatment, dosing remains stuck in the past and patients are likely suffering unnecessary treatment-related side effects, according to authors of a recent survey-based analysis.
Dosage recommendations on drug labels are still typically based on the maximum tolerated dose from phase 1 testing, a holdover from when chemotherapy was about the only thing medical oncologists had to offer patients.
Experts now question the more-is-better approach for chemotherapy as well as for targeted and immunotherapies where lower, less toxic doses often work as well as higher ones.
But with maximum tolerated dose still holding sway, many patients receive this dose when starting therapy and can experience significant treatment-related side effects.
The survey-based analysis, published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, supported this view.
The survey, which asked patients with metastatic breast cancer about the toxicities associated with the maximum tolerated dose, found that nearly 90% of respondents reported at least one significant treatment-related side effect.
Overall, 1221 patients completed the 27-question survey, developed by the Patient-Centered Dosing Initiative (PCDI), a patient advocacy group launched in 2019 to improve treatment of metastatic breast cancer.
The survey aimed to assess the prevalence and severity of patients' treatment-related side effects, communication between patients and physicians about these issues, as well as perceptions about the efficacy of higher vs lower doses and a willingness to discuss different dosing strategies.
Patients were invited to take the survey on social media. Most patients were postmenopausal, and almost half had been diagnosed in the past 2 years. Treatments included targeted, endocrine, and chemotherapy, as well as radiation, surgery, and immunotherapy.
Overall, about 86% of patients (1051 of 1221) reported at least one significant treatment-related side effect. Among these patients, more than 20% went to the emergency room or hospital as a result, and 43.2% missed at least one cancer treatment.
The most common side effects were fatigue, nausea, low blood counts, diarrhea, and neuropathy.
Almost all respondents (97.6%) told their doctors about the treatment toxicities. More than half (54.2%) received a dose reduction to minimize the side effects, and among these patients, 82.6% reported symptom relief.
The analysis had several limitations, however, including possible selection bias because only patients with internet access could participate, an underrepresentation of minority populations, and self-reported side effects that could not be confirmed.
Still, the results indicate that patients are likely struggling with potentially unnecessary treatment-related side effects because of an outdated dosing paradigm, said investigators led by PCDI founder Anne Loeser, BS, who recently died of metastatic breast cancer.
The group continues to work with the US Food and Drug Administration on initiatives to optimize cancer drug dosing and update labels. But in the meantime, PCDI recommends talking with patients about dosing options. The survey indicated that such conversations are welcome.
Nearly all survey respondents (92.3%) said they would be willing to discuss alternative dosing options to optimize quality of life. One in five, however, did not know that dose reductions were an option to control side effects. And more than half of respondents (53.3%) did not think the highest dose was necessarily the most effective.
There are "no real surprises" in the survey, but "clearly patients want to be engaged in decision-making," said William J. Gradishar, MD, a breast oncologist at Northwestern University, Chicago, who discussed the initial survey results when Loeser presented them in 2021 at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting. The survey "really highlights the need for a two-way conversation" between patients and caregivers throughout treatment.
"We have to recognize that many of our treatments do not actually improve survival, and if they do, in some cases, it's quite modest, so anything we can do to make therapy more tolerable is important," especially when the goal of care is palliation, not cure, said Gradishar.
No funding was reported for the work. Loeser and Gradishar did not have any disclosures.”

2024.05.13 17:41 SandwormCowboy Boomer aghast at laundromat prices

I’m sitting on a bench by the laundromat’s front door, minding my own business and reading a book. In walks the boomer with his Vietnam Veteran hat and cell phone belt holster, carrying a laundry basket full of clothes.
“SEVEN DOLLARS for a washer?” he shouts. I can see him in my peripheral vision— he’s just standing there, blocking the door. I look up to find him staring directly at me with his mouth open.
I say, “If you walk around, you’ll find that the machines have different prices based on size.”
He’d stopped at the biggest washing machine and assumed that every machine was the same price. I think he also assumed that I work here, even though I’m dressed like a slob (it’s laundry day after all) and there are actual employees walking around in branded T-shirts.
Boomers, man.

Presidential Term of Adna Chaffee (1901-1905) American Interflow Timeline
(Writer's Note: Understanding this summary will require previous knowledge of the posts about Chaffee's foreign and domestic policies. Any reference that needs past context will be linked to their respective posts)
Until the ends of the earth we shall fight for our values, our freedom, our sovereignty, and by the grace of Almighty God, America and its people shall triumph forevermore.” - Adna Chaffee in his inaugural address Adna Chaffee’s Cabinet
Vice President - George B. McClellan Jr.
Secretary of State - Champ Clark
Secretary of the Treasury - Elihu Root
Secretary of War - Robert F. Broussard
Postmaster General - Robert Borden
Secretary of the Navy - George E. Chamberlain (resigned March 1903) Frederick Eaton
Secretary of the Interior - Jim Hogg
Attorney General - Philander C. Knox
Secretary of Sustenance - Moses Kinkaid
Secretary of Public Safety - Edward Carmack
Secretary of Labor and Employment - George Westinghouse
Fearing The Chaffean Cabal
Hancock D.C., United States of America, February 4, 1901
Mr. Moody, the gravity of this situation is straining to members of the opposition.
I agree to your sentiment, but forming an administration such as this is in total legal power of the president. We may oppose these appointments in Congress, but as long the Patriots have the majority of confidence in the chambers, our voices are irrelevant. All we can hope is for moderacy to prevail.
The Speaker of the House and Senator Wanamaker has already voiced the totality of his support for the president’s selection. Mr. Hanly, we cannot expect us to be victorious in blocking this new cabinet, especially as public pressure demands of us approval for a functioning government. May you read the list aloud again?
For State, James Beauchamp Clark of Missouri. Treasury, Elihu Root of New York. War, Robert Broussard of Louisiana. Postmaster General, Robert Borden of Nova Scotia. Navy, George Chamberlain of Mississippi. Attorney General, Philander Knox of Pennsylvania. Interior, Jim Hogg of Texas. Sustenance, Moses Kinkaid of Dakota. Public Safety, Edward Carmack of Tennessee. Labor and Employment, George Westinghouse of Pennsylvania.
Never since the Barnum administration has a presidential administration been so clearly partisan. These men hold very extreme, reformist, and hawkish views, the country will veer very far off from what President Custer created.
chuckles, Alas, we can do nothing but do our work here in the House of Representatives. Perhaps, we should not fear this for now.
sighs, If that that is what your mind is speaking to you, then I cannot oppose it. After all, we are now partners in opposition.
The previous Custer administration had been marred by the Bryan-Russell rivalry which split the old presidential cabinet in pieces. It was custom that presidential cabinets be diverse in order to please either side of a political debate. As the old administration left, it was expected that a similar status-quo structure would be put in place to appease both hawkish hardliners and isolationist reformists, however the end result was far from that thought. The Chaffee administration was packed solely with so-called “ruffian” individuals, those who held interventionist, nationalist, social reformist, and near imperialistic philosophies. Cabinet members such as Champ Clark, Robert F. Broussard, Moses Kinkaid, and George Westinghouse were chosen due to their alignment with a ‘Chaffean’ belief. The more ‘reactionary’ members such as Vice President McClellan, Jim Hogg, George E. Chamberlain, and Edward Carmack still mostly held firm in their loyalty to the administration. The more ‘reformist’ column which included Elihu Root, Robert Borden, and Philander Knox, though more likely to be uncomfortable with the actions of the other cliques, still abided by the circle as a whole. Though terrifying for his political opponents, this powerful administration would be a blessing to the president himself, smoothing the path to get actions done.
President Chaffee during a visit to the Philippine Islands after the German negotiations
The Great Axe
Upon the axing of the ‘bloated’ bureaucratic Custerite system, the government experienced the first surplus in budget in decades. These policies were mainly devised by the machinations of Secretary Elihu Root and Attorney General Philander Knox. Many of the departments and sub departments created by the old administration were either merged, reassigned, or eliminated entirely. Funds for government-instituted programs were reallocated into the economic restructuring and control funds, killing off many public programs.
Attorney General Knox took a much harder stance on monopolies and repealed many of the protections handed to them by the Custer administration. Working with Secretary Carmack, the monetary ventures of these companies were now monitored by Bureau of Public Safety, and often threatened government intervention if practices were not up to standard. To the dismay of many radical anti-monopolists, the administration refrained from breaking up these monopolies and they continued to grow their empires that spanned the entire country, only now with increased government surveillance. On the other hand, new policies empowered small business and funds were reallocated to support non-monopoly affiliated business. Though these small business finally did detach themselves from the shadow of monopolies, in many areas competition remained harsh of them as the larger and more wealthy corporations dominated consumers.
Secretary Knox at work
In an attempted to stir back competition, Congress passed the Roosevelt-Garfield Bill in May 1902, penned by Representative Theodore Roosevelt of New York and Senator James R. Garfield of Ohio. The bill capped the wealth and support received by regional wings of corporations in “designated developing areas”. Harsh fines and possible shutdowns were imposed to any that tried disobey or cheat the law. Domestic American business saw a more competitive landscape throughout the coming years, though the wealth gap between big and small business still widened.
The Prince of the World
In a recent news report posted in the Hartford Courant, an interview with esteemed writer and author Mark Twain in February of 1903 caught the attention of many. The interviewer asked Twain a question regarding his past comments about President Chaffee, “In less than 10 words, how would you describe the foreign policy of the president.”. Twain paused for a moment and responded, “Ambition to a near toxic degree.”. Twain coined the term “Chaffean Policy”, and his sentiments were shared by most of the President Chaffee’s critics in foreign policy.
Chaffee famously declared in his tantalizing second round campaign speech that he would find America’s place under the sun. To most, Chaffee would deliver on that promise in a mere few years. America would achieve these feats quick and ambitiously. The American military occupation of Fujian Province and its establishment as part of the American sphere of influence was a victory to those who sought to expand American prowess in the Fat East. The American intervention to support the Filipino republics against the Germans who acquired the Spanish Philippines empowered the anti-German nationalists. The incidents at Manchuria and the souring of Russo-American relations bowed in favor of those who saw the Russians as autocratic tyrants. The establishment of American representation and interests in the Congo General Administration pleased the African opportunists. The quashing of the protests in Bahia Blanca strengthened those who wished to expand influence in South America. The US even demanded that the Argentine protestors be harshly punished by the Argentine government, which stirred the country's public even more. All in all, one group was certainly ecstatic of foreign policy the new administration was veering towards, the nationalist-imperialists.
American-administered railway construction in the Congo General Administration
These policy gave Chaffee’s administration immense bi-partisan support from the imperialists of the political spectrum. After the US was able to negotiate with the Germans not to continue their conquest of the Philippine Islands, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge would praise the president’s policies in a speech. “Never before has America shined so brightly to all societies of the world. Each step we take, we walk closer to the golden throne of a perfect civilization. There we shall take our rightful place as Prince of the World, under the service of the Lord, our God and Christ the Savior.”. The President himself was consistent in his constant declares of “American Sovereignty” against the grand foes that seek to dismantle it. Though notoriously less rambunctious and outgoing than his predecessor, Chaffee’s rare appearances gained much fanfare to his supporters, especially if he spoke out directly to them. The opposition continued to oppose these policies, the radicals and anti-imperialists joining forces to counteract the nationalist machine. Representative Hiram Johnson would try to push for an impeachment for Secretary Carmack, due to his actions in Bahia Blanca that led thousands deported, though his efforts fell flat. To the wider public, imperialism was either a non-concern or a broad support. A majority of American would not oppose these policies, most of them saying it was for the betterment of American prestige and international power.
Mass deportation of Argentine war immigrants back to Argentina
With fears that a possible conflict may stir up between the US and any other nation, Chaffee ordered Secretary of War Broussard and the War Department to hastily prepare a last resort war plans in case of war with every single major power in the world stage. Acknowledge the gargantuan task of defeating any major powers, the war plans describes very desperate and depraved tactics, such as using chemical warfare and bombarding international shipping. The plans would also describe the spoils of war that the US would seize if they were the win against their foes. Broussard's plans were kept top secret and never showed publicly, though many rumors got out and spread throughout the rooms of lawmakers, however those rumors was mostly either dismissed or sidelined by the general public and basically unknown to the rest of the world.
The Disobedient Son
While feelings of American expansionism were warm at home, abroad it utterly enraged many. In a golden room in a place in Berlin, Philipp, Prince of Eulenberg, after his meeting with George von Lengerke Meyer regarding the Philippines, told Vice Chancellor Arthur von Posadowsky-Wehner, “Americans are a brash and egomaniacal people. Always seeking glory, but never willing to sacrifice. Their great leaders of old, Hancock, Clay, Hale, would weep at the sight of this nation that stands before us.”.
The Kaiserreich was increasingly growing ambitious and hostile policy in the world stage. Along with her ally, the British Empire, they counterbalanced the Franco-Russian Entente for supremacy on the world stage. Woes for a conflict were already brewing in Europe. In the German-aligned Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia (informally the Kingdom of Illryia), tension was growing with the Russophile Balkan-Slavic intelligentsia and the German ruling class, reigned by Bernhard von Saxe-Meiningen, or by his regal name King Konstantin I. A military arms race between the French and the Germans continues to flare up as both vie to be the premier continental power. The Germans would still hold claim the mostly ethnically and linguistically German Rhineland, which had been handed to the French after the Napoleonic Wars. The British and the French would compete for their massive colonial empires, seeking to establish dominance as the greatest empire in history. It didn’t help that Secretary of State Clark openly denounced the “colonial competition” of the French and the British, saying it put global peace in jeopardy. Clark sent multiple letters to UK Prime Ministers Robert Gascoyne-Cecil and Charles Spencer denouncing the UK’s policy of “encroachment”, stating that wherever the French sought to spread influence, the British would follow.
The Franco-British \"Great Game\" would distract both governments from fully decrying the US
The United States would be viewed as a bumbling yet dangerously ambitious nation, one that the Germans sought to keep passive and behaved. The US had aligned neither with the Franco-Russian nor the Anglo-German alliance, historically holding a famed neutral stance in global squabbles. However as President Chaffee’s more hawkish foreign policy began to soar the US above what the foreign empires expected, those nations began to antagonize the Americans. Even the French, who have a merely professionally lukewarm relationship with the US, began to get anxious. French Prime Minister Georges Picquart would describe the American foreign policy as “…inherently hostile to all non-Americans.”. Though no foreign nation would threaten military action against the US, the sentiments established would lead to many nations seeking American to stay put during foreign affairs. The Argentine public particularly had a rabid distain for the US. After their loss in the war, Argentina would suffer crippling economic conditions, further exacerbated by their political divisions and lack of national confidence. The new Argentine president sought to rebound relations with the US, which angered many of the populace who demanded to cut off relations from their former foe. The growing hostility of these nations was apparent to many in the government, though their reactions were muted and unenthusiastic. Most simply shrugged this concern off as unimportant. Senator Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., recently appointed to the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, would state “The hostility and discrediting from foreign governments against the United States is matters that that foreign government solely has dictation over. Our government has no command over that they may say or do.” Holmes' address was met with cheers from the chambers.
The things he allows...
The first Chaffee cabinet would be one of the most politically powerful and influential administrations in American history. Coordinating excessive actions such as the expulsion of all Argentine immigrants, the grand “War on Crime”, the exaltation of the Hancockian Corps, and the detachment from the gold standard to fiat currency. Secretary of Labor and Employment Westinghouse moved ambitious yet business-friendly employment policies. Westinghouse imposed many policies that benefited the technological sector of the market, and many technological feats were aided by and complete by Westinghouse’s investments. Westinghouse’s company went beyond electricity and aided in the creation of groundbreaking inventions. Such as the “Whirl-craft”, the first American flying helicopter in 1903. Westinghouse would be a common figure of criticism by opponents. As the Housing Crisis continued and the costs of housing continued to be high, Westinghouse’s department was criticized in their inaction. Many saw that it was Westinghouse’s job to combat the issue, yet he did little to address the problem.
Secretary Westinghouse was a patron of rapid technological advancement
Secretary of Sustenance Kinkaid helped to imposed the “Market-by-Market” system. The government would classify a business based on their productivity, general environment, and profits. With the data collected, they get classified as either THRIVING, COMFORTABLE, or IN JEOPARDY. Based on their classification, it would determine the amount of aid and support they would receive from their local governments. While this system did revive thousands of small businesses that were on the brink of collapse, certain opportunistic administrators would forcibly close down IN JEOPARDY business that cut costs that would go in supporting them. States like Illinois and California would be the most notorious for their business shutdowns, as dictated by their local governments. Many local officials would get canned by their involving in this practice, such as Milwaukee Mayor David Rose, who shutdown many business in the city. Local legislators across the country would always try to push or support the practice of the man on top. Elsewhere however, such as in Texas and Virginia, local business thrived under the system. Someone who didn't thrive was a particular John D. Rockefeller, who was enraged that the government seemed to discriminate against his businesses. Rockefeller wrote in an open letter that "...no fair ground and no consistent market means no capital and no benefits for all.".
Most notorious out of all Chaffee’s cabinet was Public Safety Secretary Edward Carmack. Feared by both politician and civilian alike. The Bureau of Public Safety, called by John D. Rockefeller as the “Carmack Machine”, struck hard on the criminal civilian population. Carmack’s 6-year “War on Crime” envisioned a United States free of the crime and instability ridden tenures of the past, going as strict as possible on any wrongdoers. With the Hancockian Corps in his pocket, it was common sight for BPS agents or the local Hancockian chapter to chase down people on the streets accused with simple crimes. One heavily publicized case involved a 27-year old man, who was brutally beaten after being apprehended for a property damage charge. Carmack’s “masterplan” faced its major opponents and supporters nationwide. Nativist figures that supported his expulsion of the Argentine immigrants such as Representatives James K. Vardaman and John Temple Graves supported Carmack. Those who sought to combat monopoly and corruption power, which Carmack worked heavily to oppose, supported him, such as Representatives Oscar Underwood and William Sulzer and Senators Henry Cabot Lodge and Joseph W. Bailey. Opposing the BPS were the likes of Senators Eugene Debs, Anselm McLaurin, Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., Marion Butler Representatives Theodore Roosevelt and Francis Bellamy, and Governor Henry George Jr.. All would oppose Carmack for their own person reasons but united in their opposition. On October 1903, all mentioned would sign the “Declaration of National Renouncement”, documents declaration their oppose to the BPS’ handling of national crime, and demanded the resignation of Secretary Carmack and multiple others in the bureau. The declaration would fail in removing Carmack, though it succeeding in bringing the issue to the public spotlight.
Secretary Carmack was one of the polarizing people in the Chaffee government
The public became polarized in their opinions of the War on Crime. The Boston Custer Society, one of the largest public players of President Custer’s tenure, opposed the BPS and their operations. The BSC had already been frustrated at President Chaffee’s attempts at dismantling the Custerite Society and sought to keep the structure created by their patron. The Association for Social Co-operation also opposed the BPS, and especially the Hancockian Corps. Jacob Coxey and his followers would raise $12,000 to victims of “BPS brutality”, as well as holding their common rallies against government policies. Many also supported the BPS’ efforts, particularly war veterans who were granted added benefits directly by Carmack’s department, as well finding employment through the Hanockians. Carmack starkly told reporters outside the Capitol that "...all may curse me as they wish, but all men bow before the same divine judgement."
The Hero and the Villain
SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE
"PRESIDENT CHAFFEE CELEBRATES THIRD YEAR OF PRESIDENCY IN LOS ANGELES" by Vincent Uba, March 4, 1904.
"Almost 100,000 cheering supporters watched on today as the President rode around San Francisco celebrating his third year in office... Accompanied by Vice President George McClellan, Secretary of State Champ Clark, and Secretary to the President and his son Adna Chaffee Jr., signs were raised bearing the names of the members of his administration... Behind all the cheers and excitement, many in the city— and the wider country, wonder if the President would dare to march on into a second term as his enemies begin scheme their next political action."

President Adna Chaffee was dubbed the “Hero of the Rio de la Plata” during the War of Continental Alliance. Some continue to call him that. Though his enemies call him something very different. Coined by Representative Edward M. House, he dubbed Chaffee the “Ferro-Fiend”, saying he was an iron tyrant. Chaffee’s military background made him unfamiliar with many of the duties of the presidency. This would be used both for and against him. Supporters argued his handling of the country proved he went beyond his lack of knowledge of administration and that he thrived even though he knew little. Critics would claim that Chaffee’s ignorance of the web of governance led him to be weak and surrendered his duties to opportunistic individuals. From an interview, House Speaker John Nance Garner would say “I show my full confidence and supply for the competency of the President and his administration. Based on my own eyes, his capacity to work his duties has been more fruitful than any past administration in my lifetime.
Chaffee remained mainly quiet from the public scene during his tenure, a stark difference from his rambunctious predecessor. His image in the public eye remained as an either benevolent or malicious head honcho, one who’s quiet but one who everyone knows has power. The society that grew during his tenure would be both similar and different from the Custerite Society he promised to reimagine. On one hand, casual public life would remain the same, the economic and social stability and patriotism and understanding between normal civilians would continue and flourish during his tenure. On the other hand, policies such as the axing of institutions, the open shift towards nationalism, and fear used by the likes of the BPS shows very obvious change in society. The cult of personality adhered by fanatics of the old president would not go away, neither didn’t the radicals who called for drastic change. As the issues of the past faded away, new and prevalent issues would rise to take their place. America enters the 20th century its own friend and enemy.
23rd President of the United States of America, Adna Chaffee

2024.05.13 15:50 ManonFire63 Spirits and Schizophrenia

What is the difference between someone who can talk to God, and a Schizophrenic? Let me preface this with "I am not a doctor." This is a tough topic where people can hurt themselves or die, you should be careful. Also, I am not looking to please Secular Humanist/Liberals in Academia, who don't know the difference between a boy of a girl. Once Upon a Time, I walked into the Veterans Administration in the US. I told I doctor I could talk to God. He about jumped out of his skin. He freaked out on me. I am not bothered by talking to God, or about God. The Doctor I was talking to, he claimed to be a Christian. It may be that he was doing wrong. He had demons in him. Said demons, they react to God. I am not God, I am just a man. The Psychologist, he freaked out, and I was a man sitting in his office.
In 2013, I was a pretty regular man. I am a certified Social Studies teacher. I could be teaching your kids. I was an honorably disabled veteran. I received a calling. I started talking to God. It may have started with a gut feeling. Intuition. I started going with my gut on things. That can be dangerous. Given someone was in sin, what are they listening to? I was working to be out of sin, serving God, working on being successful in life.
Spirits, they effect motivations. How is someone motivated, and to what purpose?
Did someone have a heart of stone? A Heart of Stone may be a very particular condition. A Heart of Stone is a Spiritual Concept like the Rolling Stones song "Heart of Stone," or "Heart of Stone" the Witcher 3 expansion. People know what a heart of stone is, and it has been in the media. A man with a Heart of Stone, he may have had a particular character. A heart of flesh, a circumcision of the heart, that may be the opposite of a Heart of Stone. That comes from God. (Ezekiel 36:26)
Given I was to go over to Schizophrenia, I see things. I don't care to point anything out without permission. It can be dangerous. I hear voices. What I do is focus on God. I sing songs in my head. I pray unceasingly. I like The Lord's Prayer and Psalms 23. I seek God with my mind, and God's voice and character, and I ignore things "Not God." Given people are patient, and don't freak out on me, I may share things in the comments here, bits of wisdom or awareness I have picked up over 10 years or so.
