What foiler can get two 200 lb adult (182 kg) on foil in 10 knot. (low wind summer on lake Michigan)

2023.06.14 22:17 Maxifloxacin What foiler can get two 200 lb adult (182 kg) on foil in 10 knot. (low wind summer on lake Michigan)

Sorry about posting so frequently the past couple weeks... I am knee-deep researching this topic..
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The best thing I've found are these F18 Catamaran foilers like Nacra 18 or even the bigger Nacra 20. But after talking to couple shipyards and couple shops, They kind of all told me similar situation, these foilers are more designed for Europe or coastal US with more wind. They are saying the Nacra 18 FCS minimum lift off is around 13-14 knots.. (which at this wind speed I might as well just go regular windsurf foiling blasting around 1.5 times windspeed)...

Now I have to rethink this topic...Based on my very rudimentary windsurf foil calculation, to get 2 humans 400 lb, estimate boat weight 200 lb, 600 lb total. You need roughly 30 m^2 sail size. That seems like a lot....

Is this even possible? To get 400 lbs of meat up on foil in 10 knot.. Maybe cats are not the best foilers out there? is there anything else? Trimaran? monohull? etc.

If you a F20 18 17 16 Foilers owner, please reach out as well, what is the minimum liftoff windspeed.

Thanks!

--------------------------------
PS:I do see these IFLY15 catamarans. with Flight control wand and apparently can get up on foil in 6 knots w/ 1 up... I am in sales myself.. whenever I see these overwhelming amount of advertisements and videos, I cringe a little.. I see very few owners.. and very few 3rd party reviews.. i have extreme high doubt on this..

2023.02.09 23:51 geo_dj The long, sad decline

I’ve been a longtime fan of Whistler Blackcomb ever since my first visit in 1994. And all the expansions to the resort that were made for the 2010 Winter Olympics have really transformed it into a world class resort.
But after making several trips this season, I’m pretty much done. I’ll make one last day trip to use the remaining day of my EDGE card, and that’s it. Here are my complaints:
  1. Climate change has not been kind, and the snowpack has been getting more and more erratic. The Horstman Glacier’s retreat, resulting in the demise of the Horstman T-bar, has hindered access to much of Blackcomb’s best terrain. It’s unknown when, or even if, this lift will ever be replaced. And many of the recent huge snow dumps, when they occur at all, are immediately followed by rain and above freezing temperatures. While the low elevation has always made warm temps and icy conditions an ongoing problem, it seems to be getting worse lately.
  2. Ever growing lift lines. The sale to Vail Resorts has been a blessing and a curse. Although millions have been invested into lift upgrades, adding WB to the Epic network has resulted in a tidal wave of Epic Pass holders. The lift lines are just as bad now as they were before the upgrades, and on some days get even worse. And when high winds or avalanche dangers result in closures of the upper lifts, there’s precious little terrain accessible that isn’t slushy or icy.
  3. Prices. TravelMag recently rated WB the most expensive resort in Canada. There are a number of less expensive resorts with better snow conditions and shorter lift lines nearby. They may not be as epic as WB, but they have fun terrain.
  4. Village. One of my favorite features of WB was the pedestrian village and a variety of unique shops and fine dining experiences. But the economic shift resulting from ever rising hotel and real estate prices, coupled with Epic Pass holders taking advantage of CAD/USD rates for a cheaper vacation, have driven out most of the mom & pop businesses. Now the village is dominated by corporate chains and cheap, imported souvenir shops. The pandemic has made this situation even worse.
  5. Erratic operations. The resort does a poor job of communicating changes to schedules. I’ve witnessed a number of mechanical breakdowns during peak hours. The lift line estimates as reported on the Epic Mix app cannot be trusted.

2021.09.06 20:09 deceased_parrot Seriously considering buying an F27 - and need good advice!

After saving up enough money, waiting and looking for the right opportunity, I've finally found my dream boat on sale - a Farrier F-27! However, now that it's within my grasp, I find myself hesitating. On one hand, I recently spent a week offshore on a different trimaran and it was the experience of my life. Having previously only day-sailed on monohulls I found the trimaran's speed in particular mesmerizing - and the F-27 is even faster! But on the other hand, my father (who served in the navy and used to do carpentry for boats) is telling me that boats are a waste of money and that I shouldn't bother. I've also never actually sailed on an F-boat and I have no idea what it's really like.
I guess what I'm looking for is advice from somebody that already owns one:
  1. How much experience should I have before getting my first boat? I probably have over 1000 nm under my belt, but that's as a crew member, not a skipper.
  2. How does the whole purchase process go? Should I get a marine surveyor first? Should I look specifically for ones with experience with trimarans (which might be hard to find)? Should I get a lawyer or a broker involved?
  3. It's a fairly old boat (30 or so years) - does that mean it'll keep its value and not depreciate further? Ideally I'd like to be one day able to sell it for more or less the same as I paid for it.
  4. I know it's a fairly small boat, but can it handle the occasional offshore trip? What about ocean crossings (probably not)?
  5. I've read that the maximum load is 1000 lbs - that's fairly low, even for coastal cruising. What happens if I go over that limit?
This community was really helpful with their advice in the past and I'm hoping you will all come through this time as well!

2020.11.15 23:57 Small_Secretary_3914 Buying Whistler Quarter Shares

Quarter share properties in Whistler include: Legends & Evolution in Creekside, Montebello in the Village & Horstman House in the Benchlands. They are offering 13+ weeks in the shared ownership. With this option I'm able to own a vacation home in this popular ski resort without breaking the bank and also have the benefit of managed rentals. In Covid times, the price seems to go down even further and a lot many of such properties appears to be on sale, however there's the hope that in post-Covid times the loss will get covered? Seems like a good opportunity. Anyone own a quarter share condo program? Any feedback is appreciated.
Edit: thanks for all the comments and great insight. Not keen on it as the discussion made me realize I wouldn't go as often as every month, nor would I want to be worried about the rental pool loss right now.

2016.12.19 07:11 MidnightBlack70 A Chaotic Rant! And a touch of praise concerning Total War Warhammer and the Chaos Faction.

They did a fantastic job on every faction, imo. Every faction feels like its TT counterpart. And for all of us Warhammer fans, this is the dream-come true adaptation of the best TT wargame ever conceived. Each faction plays near the point of perfection! Well...Almost....All with the exception of Chaos, who, while they have some great units, feel more like an afterthought, or "Chaos lite" rather then the massive and versatile force they are on the TT. Disappointing for me, seeing as how I am almost exclusively a player of "Khorne" themed armies (with an occasional Beastmen game, or daemons of Chaos, also themed to Khorne...) I stopped playing around the transition from 6th to 7th, mostly because, like many, I didn't like the Daemons/Warriors split. While I agreed 100% (and still do) that the beastman split was Loreful and sensible, and supported it all the way despite some getting angry at it, when they split off Daemons, well....THAT was just an underhanded marketing move. And it made no sense for a number of reasons, and for other reasons, seemed like GW was pulling a scam.
1) In the Lore, Chaos Sorcerers summon them. They have a hard time maintaining a form in the realm of mortals, so the stronger the sorcerer, the longer they can stay. This was represented well with the "intangible" rule. Also, Patron Gods would also send them as "rewards" to warband leaders that pleased them. This was a common reward, in fact. In once instance, Khorne actually rewarded his own personal hound to one warrior to ride! Now that's a gift! (See Arbaal the Undefeated). So they suddenly ignore this fact. For over 2 decades, no mortals=no daemons.
2) There just aren't enough variety of daemon models to form a versatile force. You either say screw the lore and plop Slaanesh and Khorne deamons together with Tzeench and Nurgle daemons, or you do the right things and theme them, for which your opponent now knows you have bloodletters and flesh-hounds, a few bloodcrushers maybe, and nothing else, in a Khorne army example. I hear they added some in 8th, but was still pretty much the same.
3)Heres where it got underhanded and dirty. GW knows that a) their models cost a kidney, and b) Chaos players generally had armies consisting of half mortals, and half daemons. That was the "thing" for chaos. By splitting them up, players were stuck buying half a new force against their will IF they wanted to keep playing, and having a bunch of "shelved" models they spent a lot of time and money invested into, OR buying enough to fill out BOTH armies to keep them from being wasted purchases, OR say screw this and walk away. The sudden and sharp nosedive in popularity and sales between 2008-2011 shows that most people picked the latter.
There are actually a handful of other reasons why this was a terrible move by GW. Another was the whole "End times" thing, which was a desperate ploy in which they allowed Chaos players to again have Chaos Warriors summon daemons in a limited capacity, but the idiot writer destroyed the Old World in the process. Not smart. Another horrible move was Chaos Undivided itself. Undivided started out as an awesome thing. It could only be led by Archaon in Fantasy or Abaddon in 40K, representing that they were "special" and marked by all four powers allowing them and ONLY them, to mix and match from the big 4. This was awesome when it was introduced. But with 8th edition, its been watered down....And now its Chaos the generic edition, or as I call it "The Lite beer of Chaos" LOL!
And this Chaos faction seems infected with that same damn generic syndrome. And atm, they have the least amount of Lord and hero models, the least in the way of events, and the driest Horde playstyle (I don't know why, but the Horde style for them isn't very exciting like it is for the Beastmen, which was a lot of fun to play through! Cant put a finger on it, its just not the right style).
I really hope they grab from more then just 8th edition, but get from the Lore those things in the past that really shined. Present Lords like Valkyia the Bloody, for example, would be sweet alongside classics like Arbaal, Engrim Van Horstman, Aekold Helbrass, and other well known Chaos Lords from the past!
Here is hoping they learned from the past mistakes of GW. And here is hoping, that THIS version of Chaos turns out to be a placeholder for something much better!

2016.07.21 07:40 Bohemian7 Looking for any info on the Maora trimaran.

I am interested in a small trimaran that was known as the Maora. It was a rotomold boat that was car toppable.
I am looking to get my hands on a new one, but the manufacturer seems to have gone belly up. I'd be interested in a used one in good shape if someone knows of one for sale.
I already spoke to a company in GA called direct boats, but they have no info for me, other than NLA.
Thank you for any help guys!

2014.05.23 21:20 matthewalan8 Mariners 2014 Draft Thoughts - Looking Back at Previous Drafts Under Jack Z

We're just a few weeks away from Mariner's GM, Jack Zduriencik's 6th draft with the team. I took a look back at the M's picks in the first five rounds since 2009, to see how we measured up with the rest of the league, and to see if we can spot any trends to figure out what the M's will be looking for in the 2014 Draft.
First let me say, in Bill Bavasi's final year with the M's, he drafted a closer out of Georgia 20th overall, named Josh Fields. Yes, the same Josh Fields who now plays for the Houston Astros. Fields was a holdout all summer long, and was finally signed in February of 2009 by Jack Zduriencik. At the time, I thought Zduriencik would jump at the opportunity to have four 1st Round picks in his first season as the GM.
Had the Mariners and Fields not come to an agreement, the Mariners would have received the 21st overall pick in the 2009 draft as compensation. More on that later...
Secondly, I list WAR next to some of the other players drafted. I don't want to get into a sabermetrics debate, this is just the stat I chose this time.
2009
In his first draft as the team's GM, Jack Zduriencik could not have asked to be in a better position. Holding the 2nd, 27th, and 33rd overall picks, the M's were in a good spot to add talent quickly.
The M's picked up the consensus, "best hitter" in the draft, when the picked up 2B/OF Dustin Ackley with the 2nd overall pick. Their next picks looked like this:
Rd 1 (27) – Nick Franklin – SS
Rd 1 (33) – Steven Baron – C
Rd 2 (51) – Rich Proythress – 1B
Rd 3 (82) – Kyle Seager – 3B
Rd 4 (113) – James Jones – CF
Rd 5 (143) – Tyler Blandford – RHP
While Nick Franklin has been a fringe major-leaguer to date, Kyle Seager has been the Mariner's most consistent hitter out of that draft. James Jones has also recently been called up to play CF for the team.
Other notable draft picks from 2009 from around the majors are:
Mike Trout – Rd 1 (24) – OF – Angels – 23.0 WAR
Jason Kipnis – Rd 2 (63) – OF/2B – Indians – 11.4 WAR
Stephen Strasburg Rd 1 (1) – RHP – Nationals – 9.7 WAR
Mike Leake – Rd 1 (8) – RHP – Reds – 9.2 WAR
Brandon Belt – Rd 5 (147) – 1B – Giants – 8.8 WAR
Nolan Arenado – Rd 2 (59) – 3B – Rockies – 5.6 WAR
The best player in the draft, and one of the best players currently in baseball, Mike Trout, was drafted 24th overall by the Angels. Had the Mariner's not signed their 2008 hold-out, Josh Fields, they would have had the 21st overall pick. Would the M's have taken Trout at 21st overall? Nobody knows, but by signing Fields, they didn't have a chance to make that call.
2010
Going into 2010, the Mariners had no true 1st Round pick, as they gave that away to the Angels when they signed Chone Figgins to a major deal; we all know how that worked out.
They did, however, score big when they drafted RHP Taijaun Walker with their 43rd overall pick. The first five rounds went like this:
Rd 2 (67) – Marcus Littlewood – SS/C
Rd 3 (99) – Ryne Stanek – RHP
Rd 4 (132) – James Paxton – LHP
Rd 5 (162) – Stephen Pryor – RHP
With Walker and Paxton, the Mariners picked up two pitchers who can fit at the top of the rotation, and will do so in 2014, if they can stay healthy. Injuries are a common theme, as Stephen Pryor also made the big league team coming out of the bullpen, before he had season-ending surgery in 2013.
Other notable 2010 draft picks are:
Chris Sale – Rd 1 (13) - LHP – White Sox – 17.9 WAR
Andrelton Simmons – Rd 2 (70) – Braves – 10.5 WAR
Bryce Harper – Rd 1 (1) – OF – Nationals – 8.8 WAR
Manny Machado – Rd 1 (3) – SS – Orioles – 7.8 WAR
Matt Harvey – Rd 1 (7) – RHP – Mets – 6.9 WAR
Russell Wilson – Rd 4 (140) – 2B – Rockies – Super Bowl Champion QB
2011
The Mariners held the #2 overall pick again in the 2011 draft, and they used it to select LHP Danny Hultzen. Again, they went for the college player, who had less down-side and would make it to the majors quicker. Other picks in the draft for the M's were:
Rd 2 (62) – Brad Miller – SS
Rd 3 (92) – Kevin Cron – 1B
Rd 3 (121) – Carter Capps – RHP
Rd 4 (123) – John Hicks – C
Rd 5 (153) – Tyler Marlette – C
For the 3rd straight season, the Mariners drafted a SS in the top 2 rounds, and continued to ignore their situation in the outfield. If Hultzen doesn't come back from his injury, and if Brad Miller doesn't stop striking out in 25% of his AB's, this draft was a huge bust. Other notable players from this draft were:
Jose Fernandez Rd 1 (14) – RHP – Marlins – 7.6 WAR
Sonny Gray – Rd 1 (18) – RHP – Athletics – 3.3 WAR
Gerrit Cole – Rd 1 (1) – RHP – Pirates – 2.2 WAR
George Springer – Rd 1 (11) – OF – Astros – Potential 40/40
At this point, it looks as though the Florida Miami Marlins are the big winners in the draft, selected Jose Fernandez. It's still too soon to tell, however, as Fernandez is now out for the season having surgery, and Gerrit Cole has played very little in the majors, but has been impressive in the minors. George Springer has an opportunity to be a 40H40SB player in the future as well.
2012
Again, holding a top 5 pick, the Mariners picked up Catcher, Mike Zunino. MZ Hammer, is playing with the major league squad and is outstanding behind the plate. He shows great power at times, and shows extreme lack of pitch recognition other times. He strikes out often, but has great potential. Here's what the rest of the draft looked like for the Mariners.
Rd 2 (64) – Joe DeCarlo – SS
Rd 3 (98) – Edwin Diaz – RHP
Rd 3 (126) – Tyler Pike – LHP
Rd 4 (131) – Patrick Kivlehan – 1B/3B
Rd 5 (161) – Chris Taylor – SS
Edwin Diaz has impressed in his time in the minors, as has Chris Taylor. Still, the Mariners seem determined not to draft any outfielders in the early rounds of the draft. It is still way too early to look at how the other teams did in the draft, as most of the players are still making their way through the minors.
2013
The Mariners, desperately seeking power, went after it in the 2013 draft when they selected DJ Petersen and Austin Wilson in their first two rounds respectively. DJ Peterson has had success in the minors at each level he's played, currently in high-A. Wilson, has struggled at times, but shown flashes of the power he was drafted for.
Rd 3 (85) – Tyler O’Niell – RF
Rd 4 (117) – Ryan Horstman – LHP
Rd 5 (147) – Jack Reinheier - SS
2014
The Mariners finally addressed some of the concerns with outfield, by taking two RF's in 2013, but they are still severely lacking outfield depth throughout their minor league system. They hold the 6th overall pick in the draft, and rumors are that the Mariners are potentially looking to draft a pitcher or a SS.
Personally, if one of the elite pitchers fall to them at 6; being Carlos Rodon, Brady Aiken and Tyler Kolek (who sports a 100+ MPH Fastball), or perhaps even the solid pitcher, Aaron Nola, I would be okay with them taking a pitcher.
I'd be less excited to see SS Nick Gordon drafted, as the Mariners have spent too many high draft picks on SS under this regime. Not that I don't think he looks like a good player, but the M's could do without drafting another SS early. It would be refreshing to see the Mariners continue to work on their outfield depth, by drafting Alex Jackson. Jackson may not be on the board when the Mariners pick, so picking the northwest product, Michael Conforto, would also be welcome.
I feel that what the Mariner's say their draft strategy is and what they actually do, are not consistent. They say they just take the best player available. In reality, they lean towards taking the "safe bets" in college rather than taking a gamble on higher-upside players out of High School. To me, this shows a lack-of-confidence in the area scouts in the Mariner's organization. If they feel strongly about a player, they should be confident even to take them in the 1st Round.
"Safe", is why the Mariners are currently still hovering around .500, and haven't made the playoffs since 2001.
With all of that said, the MLB Draft is one of the most unpredictable in sports. Nobody truly knows who the elite players will be, they can only make best guesses. You can just cross your fingers and hope for the best.

2011.06.23 01:53 B5_S4 Can r/sailing suggest some models for purchase?

Hey everybody, I am in the market for a used boat and I was hoping I could pool the collective experience of sailing to help make sure I'm not over looking any good boats.
I am young, and as such I have an obsession with speed. I do not want a cruiser or a day sailer, I don't need any family friendliness or amenities. I want a pure bred race boat. To me that means a monohull capable of planing or a performance multihull (not a beach cat). I have no preference to trimarans, cats or monohulls, though I don't see many performance trimarans for sale. I'm looking for something designed for two people to sail, anything around 16-20 feet with too much sail area and not much freeboard. I would definitely love to have a spinnaker (especially an asymmetrical one) but I'm willing to go without one.
Boats I have sailed in the past:
Boats I'm looking to purchase:
So sailing, is there a boat I should be looking at that I haven't seen? Something I may have overlooked? Post them up!
