2024.05.16 21:30 dlschindler Humans Crush Bugs, Don't Cry Little Alien

Conner sat listening to music while the history class droned on endlessly. What is the point of learning history? War never changes, right? It seemed tedious. What does history have to do with how powerful and cool a mech is, or how sweet it is to be a mech knight?
"When the darkness came from outside, only the humans knew what was happening. It was war, war from outside the peaceful galaxy. War that had started when the Milky Way first showed the twinkling signs of life. One insane intelligence, old as time, would not tolerate another living galaxy. Each must be consumed by its own weight, and only death may prevail.
Humans instinctively knew this, as the chosen ones, the T-Cells of the galaxy. When their alien friends started getting ravaged and marauded by the scouts of the Dark Beings, humans responded, retaliating with unbridled ferocity and driving the otherwise unstoppable enemies back into the darkness.
It was a frightening time, and it only got worse when the massive cloud of shade was identified as the locust fleet that had sailed for billions of years, the Silent Empty Eternal Darkness Sailors, as they called themselves. They were nothing but dormant hives, sleeping forever, ready to wake and kill and self-destruct, make the galaxy dead. They could have done so, but humans stood in their way, an unpredictable enemy, capable of war.
That is why human worlds were directly targeted by their commandos. Massive singular monsters of ungodly visage were deployed to human worlds, spawning armies of miniature satraps of the horrors, to pillage and assault human worlds, turning them into hellscapes of death and destruction. The alien friends of the humans did not sit entirely idle, they helped by selling powerful new weapons and armor to the humans who kept retaliating against the Dark Beings with ever more powerful and vengeful mech."
Conner perked up at the part about the mech. Various famous chassis flashed across the screen in cool paint and poses with alien worlds in their backdrop and accounting for their neatly colored camouflage plates. He paid attention to the famous battles, where humans had defeated the Dark Beings in honorable combat.
"Conner, do you know what made your clan's father and mother such great mech knights?" his teacher asked.
"They learned from their mistakes." Conner sighed.
"They learned from other people's mistakes. They studied all of our defeats, all the times the Dark Beings annihilated entire battalions or overwhelmed our defenses. It is a much heavier volume. We learn little from victory except that now the enemy will try to better themselves again. When they win, they use the same tactics again - that's when we win. We don't use the same tactics again, for they will be ready when we try. We conceptualize and learn their thoughts, through their actions. They do not understand us. It is our only advantage, for each progression of our tech is met by another evolution of their monsters. Someday we will not be able to make a stronger bullet to match their stronger armor. We must anticipate a limit to this war, and fight accordingly."
"I can only anticipate getting into a mech and fighting bugs!" Conner had said. His teacher had given him that look. Nobody else got that look. Conner got it everywhere. He thought back to those days, he'd really thought he'd see action, in a mech, fighting bugs.
The rest of his class went on to become mech knights. All of them had seen action. Of course, none of them were left alive, and few of their mech were salvaged. Except, Pharlie.
Her mech was the third in a row of ones hit by a single plasma beam of the enemy. While the first two were instantly blown to atomic dust, her mech was only knocked over and set on fire. The ejection seat in the cockpit had the one and a half seconds needed to egress the mech knight safely.
She'd spent some time in relieved-of-duty status on Maranda Beach before she insisted they give her something to do. They quickly evaluated her and decided she wasn't fit for duty in a mech. Something about 'shutting down the Berserker Program' and 'protocols preventing reinstating anyone who qualifies to pilot a Berserker Mech'. Not happening under Admiral Khaspa.
"How's getting into a mech and fighting bugs, Conner? Still anticipating it?" Pharlie asked her old classmate.
"You are under my command. Watch your tone, I run a cruel shift." Conner grumbled.
"Aye, Skipper." Pharlie cringed, realizing the bureaucrat Conner had no sense of humor anymore. She decided to make it her personal mission to work on that. Conner with no humor didn't sound fun.
That scene in the classroom was a long time ago, but it was with Conner like it just happened. He hated Pharlie, because she stood for his humiliation, and wanted to humiliate her, but then he hated himself for feeling that way. He resolved to leave her be because he didn't want to feed his own calloused resentments.
"We've got work to do. We are reassigned to military surplus salvage. This job just keeps getting better. I used to think I would somehow be tested on a battlefield to save the galaxy, but out here I just get tested by boredom. I don't even feel the shame of these janitorial jobs anymore, I'm numb to it." Conner said to Pharlie, the next time they spoke. Pharlie realized he was trying to be nice to her and asked him:
"You'd rather be dead, or be me?" She wondered.
"Yeah. You don't know what it is like flying around delivering stuff and counting crap. I hate it. I could've made an actual difference." Conner complained personally.
Pharlie smiled and said: "You'd have made no more difference than the rest of us did. You don't know what a victory against the bugs costs, do you? You think you just have to stand there bravely shooting back and if you die, oh well, otherwise it's all glory. It's never like that. It hurts, it hurts a lot, because you don't die. Everyone else does. And for what? We just play the same game again next weekend, and it never changes."
"That's war." Conner nodded. "What am I doing? I bring supplies to remote outposts. It's pointless."
"Not anymore, they reassigned us to go pick up supplies, remember?" Pharlie pointed out.
"Oh yeah - don't remind me, just when I though my life couldn't be more tedious or pointless." Conner fell silent, realizing he sounded weak and small, complaining so much. He wished he was stoic, but he had a chance to confide in Pharlie, and he had taken it. Pharlie said:
"You're right. But let's make the most of it." And she smiled, so Conner decided that letting someone know just how miserable he was wasn't entirely a bad thing. He just wished he could somehow just be good with it, without having to use drugs or somesuch. He really felt like his combat skills were going to waste, sitting on a ship for long years, asleep and going around picking up supplies. As Pharlie had pointed out, they weren't even delivering them anymore, new mission, go get all that stuff the aliens made over the centuries for the war effort.
Rhema loomed in the distance. "We are picking up artwork on this world. Are you kidding me? The manifest shows it is categorized as artwork. So this community of variety-hour aliens have compiled some kind of treasure trove of fine art. This is asinine." Pharlie offered.
"That's enough of that." Conner chastised her formally on the deck, but he was smiling as he said it. He loved having her there stating his real feelings. "The mission is to acquire this propaganda, it is deemed useful to the war effort."
The world was like melted orange-cream covered in brown fog, a desolate radiated landscape below testified to the destructive power of the Unknown. The same Dark Beings had taken shots from the darkness with precise aim and killed some of the older aliens, such as the Frendsikeel. Long ago the peaceful otter people had lived happily on Rhema, inviting trade via broadcast.
After meeting an assortment of artist-aliens wearing shimmering dark-colored robes and cowls, the human delegate collecting military surplus accepted the crates of fine art, packed for their shipping across the stars, trusted to nobody except the human military to safely transport it.
"Conner." A call came in from Supply Command Unk Gheldin, Conner's commander. "You just earned me a promotion. The patrons of Rhema have instituted a check as a downpayment on our services. It's enough to build an entire warship. These aliens are loaded and just became our daddy. You're doing good work out there, the war effort thanks you!"
"I'll be sure and handle with care." Conner saluted diligently.
The next world was Arienta, populated by what was left of aliens who looked like huge anthropomorphic tarantulas.
"We've perfected a drug that can induce Star Sleep in humans. They said it was not possible for such belligerent minds to Star Sleep, but our colony of volunteers have allowed us to test every kind of euphoria and pleasure-inducing drug we could on them. Most species wouldn't have such a supply of volunteers, but humans come from far and wide to live as our guests, accepting our hospitality for their entire lives, saying they don't ever want to leave." The high priestess of the Blue Light Watchers, Rhoxa Billi, explained the doped humans lounging around everywhere.
"They look like slackers, sir." Pharlie said loudly.
"That's enough of that." Conner admonished her, but was smiling, glad she said what he was thinking. He faced the high priestess formally and said:
"We'll take this drug, and thank you for your hard work." Conner waved his fingers in the spiritual way to show he knew the sacred gratitude of the Blue Light Watchers. He'd studied how to do it on the way over, practicing it for days until he was confident he could do it right.
The next stop was Basilik, an industrialized wasteland where the Sunder had hundreds of thousands of giant humanoid machines, in loincloths, working tirelessly to drag massive monolithic super metal beams across rollers, up ramps to assemble indestructible mech chassis to sell to the humans.
"Sir, we take shipments from here all the time. What are we here for?" Pharlie asked.
"Not a what, a whom." Conner said.
The casket of the revered Exalted Inquisitor Eshka Layenna was loaded on board, but it was not made by Sunder. No, it was tech from some other society, preserving her eternally in a state of dormancy, a kind of molecular stasis.
"We're taking her back to the ones who put her in there. They have a gift for us. She is our gift for them. The Sunder have agreed to this, in the name of the war effort."
The Desperado star sailed to the nearby Kriesene system where an old gravity cloud that looked like a planet had hundreds of planet-sized moons dancing around it like an insane ballroom.
"The shoals around their world will make this somewhat dangerous to traverse. We have a map, given to us by the Sunder, so we should be fine." Conner told Pharlie.
"Danger, eh? Kinda like it, don't you?" Pharlie teased.
"That's enough of that." Conner said without any real command in it, smiling.
The Skiesene had a moon-sized space station named Thoughtfulness where they conducted much of their trade with each other. They looked like dark-shelled nightmare creatures, some kind of H.R. Giger prophecy had remembered these creatures long before humans had met them.
Conner witnessed their massed warriors, in stasis, embroidered stole draped over them, crouched motionless atop pedestals with twenty-yard tall tapestries depicting their many victories in bloody combat. They sat there in a great hall in their various forms and armors, but always hideous monsters, reminding him of the Dark Beings vaguely, except devoid of insectoid features.
The Skiesene were delighted by the delivery of their goddess, Eshka Layenna. A time without bloodshed was declared, and the Skiesene offered a shipment of their finest warriors, in egg form.
The Skiesene Khan grinned with uncannily human-looking teeth, but in its grin was a sharpened beak that could pierce the solid dome that was their head, with no eyes or ears, at least not in one place, for they had sensory all over their bodies.
"Uh, thanks. We could always use some special, uh, special forces." Conner accepted the eggs, as he was under orders to do. They were preserved until called, using a key to deactivate the stasis they were in. Then they would serve the orders in their minds, to obey their human commanders.
"I hope they don't have to facehug us and chest burst us." Pharlie chuckled.
"That's enough of that." Conner told her, smiling.
The last stop was the world of the Beebee, aliens who looked like cats wearing incredibly fancy clothing.
"We've tailored new uniforms for the human armies. You'll like them." The Master of Design, top official of the Beebee, told Conner, purring as he went.
Conner put one hand on his elbow and one holding his chin, trying to keep a straight face, when he saw the uniforms.
"They are a little small, don't you think?" Conner looked at the feline models in the uniforms meant for human soldiers.
"And kinda derpy with all those frills and colors?" Pharlie offered further criticism.
The Master of Design seemed to think the uniforms were being complimented, anticipating no other response. It took a moment to sink in that the humans were mocking all their hard work.
"All of the specifications for armored clothing were met. These uniforms will preserve your body temperature in very extreme conditions and will slow ballistic projectiles so that they cannot penetrate the cloth, but instead have their kinetics splattered outward and also the colors shift to the mood of the wearer. You can make it camouflage if you like. We worried that human sizes made dispensing millions of these uniforms impractical compared to making an adjustable size. Try one on." The Master of Design was not offended, but stood his ground, his hair puffing up making him look sophisticated and official. His whiskers twitched handsomely at the end and he gave a prolonged blink.
"They still look silly, why so many frills?" Pharlie chuckled.
"That's enough of that." Conner sighed.
The humans were about to leave and board their ship when Conner spotted an ancient mech standing next to the star port.
"What's that?" he asked.
"The tomb of Drastic Conner Mcfarley, the mech knight who defended our world, surprising a lone scout of the Dark Beings and engaging it in single one-on-one combat, saving our world. Drastic Conner Mcfarley died in his mech during the battle. The scout retreated and left us unharmed." The Master of Design said.
"Why'd it leave?" Conner asked, but recalled what his clan father had done. He awaited the answer he knew:
"Drastic Conner Mcfarley disarmed it, but left its capacity to retreat intact. It is believed he deliberately used this measure of engagement, in order to ensure the enemy would not retaliate by bombarding our world. When one of them dies, the world they die on gets destroyed. He might have survived the battle if he'd just killed it when he had the chance. We know this. He sacrificed himself to save us."
"That's right." Conner nodded. He and Pharlie felt solemn, realizing how far their journey had taken them, all the way to where it had began for them. "We're him, and we won't let you down."

2024.05.16 21:27 No-Log-- AITA for wanting to leave a loving marriage?

Bluckle up it's a lot to unpack. Frist basics, I (32f) have been married to let's call him Fred (42m) for 6 years. We have a one daugher together and he has a daughter from a previous relationship and so do I. The two older girls are about a month apart so they're basically like twins and get along really well. I got to school online and work graveyards, so I sleep a lot during the days that I work. Fred works late nights but never after 10pm.
We love each other very much obviously, but for the past two years we can't not seem to go more than two weeks without getting into a bitter argument over nothing. For example last night our girls had performances at the same time 2 schools. My husband woke me up 12 minutes before those performances started. Not before we had to be there 12 minutes before it started, and our 5yo was not ready. I had work the night before so I had to get ready. So i told my husband to get the 5yo dressed and he said he didn't know where any dresses were so I went to go find him one and I went to go get dressed to go to the concert so I wasn't able to put on makeup wash my face or anything really. I just had to get up. Get dressed and go. After I can't put to the car I see my daughter's hair is not brushed and she has pants that are on backwards underneath the dress with swimming shoes on. There is no time to fix any other this as we have to be there 5 minutes ago. So that's how my daughter looked at her end of the year graduation performance. I went to the youngest daughter's performance and he went to my oldest daughter's performance. Understandably I was a little upset when I woke up and on the way to school. I got over it fairly quickly like by the time I got back home, but now he's upset with me for being upset. I force him to have dinner with us. After dinner I go outside and I find him in the fetal position on a bench and I ask him what's wrong and he says nothing and I said what are you thinking about and he said oh that I'm just a terrible father, husband and all this other stuff. And of course I was like you're not a terrible father or husband. Things happened and stuff like that. Anywho I go and come back from the graveyard shfit. I change my clothes into pajamas and kind of crawl into bed in kiss him and hug them. Cuddle a little bit you know, a little Love. and then I get up and I have coffee. I start my day. I have to get my girls up and ready for school. All that good stuff. My husband is still mad at me from the night before. And he's been asking me all day if I really love him and every time I say I do he scoffs and says yeah sure and now he is at work. 4 hours before work even starts and he's sending me messages telling me that I hurt him, and that I don't show enough affection to him and I don't give him enough time. I have never been a real affectionate person. It's fine. I'm funny and I have other great qualities. He says that he knows I'm always been like this but he feels that I still find a way to make him feel more loved and I've tried but I feel like it's never good enough because this has been going on for 2 years and that's just one example of many. That's just today all right guys. Let me know what you think. AITA?

2024.05.16 21:25 Actual-Chipmunk-3733 The journey is over

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/AsOneAfterInfidelity/s/aDWg4wSGER
Update 1: https://www.reddit.com/AsOneAfterInfidelity/s/V0O5DpriSv
Oh man. So much has happened since my last update, and since Dday 5 months.
I started attending church again because I felt like I needed to get a grip of my life again and get back to my core values. And was suddenly asked if I wanted to go on a missions trip to Uganda with a few other young people from the church and I agreed.
Reconciliation was going good up until my trip. Still had daily triggers and daily mind movies but I managed. I wasn't crying everyday anymore. So progress I guess.
Anyways, I went on the trip and a few days in i realised that I was happy. Just being around other like minded people.....friends. and for a while I didn't even think about my WS and I just realized that this feeling I'm feeling now. This is what I deserve in life. I don't want to "manage" in life. I want to actually live. I don't want to worry about triggers. I don't want to work on my newfound trust issues. I don't want it anymore. And I don't want a life where that is the foundation of my relationship.
So I had clarity, and I started getting a little interest in one of the girls from the group. Not that I wanted anything. But just knowing that I'm actually still capable of catching feelings towards a new woman was freeing somehow. Like, it was comforting to know that I'm gonna fall in love again someday with a new woman. That my WS isn't the ONLY one.. I wanted her to be the only one. But knowing that she doesn't have to be was freeing.
So when I got back home from Uganda (3 days ago) I gathered my thoughts for a day. And then ended it my WS the day after.
I kept it on my own side of the road and didn't blame her. I just told her that "the trust that is needed to rebuild this relationship, Is not something I'm capable of giving. I forgive you, I love you, I'm not angry at you. But I'm just not strong enough to make it through this anymore. It's been almost half a year and I'm exhausted of the triggers and mind movies. And I'm not strong enough anymore"
And then I hugged her. Kissed her forehead and held her as she cried for a while. And then I left.
Today I called my best friend and he helped me move some of my belongings over to my new place where I'm moving in with a good friend of mine. I decided to leave her most of the things that I brought into the house. I only took my bed, tv and dining table. And left the rest of the furnitures in the house for her so that she wouldn't have to wake up and live in a completely empty house. I care for her deeply and wish her the very very very best in life. And secretly I think I have a little hope that some day in the future when I'm completely over it. I meet her again and fall in love all over. But for now, I'm surrounded by long lost friends that I reconnected with again through church and I'm excited and happy for the future. I feel like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I no longer worry about triggers and barely any mind movies anymore. Thank you all for reading and following up on me in my darkest time of life. Might update again some time in the future.

2024.05.16 21:22 simmilik Kpop gurus, i need your help đŸ«°

NOTE: i first posted this on kpop but it was deleted because its not news related. i was redirected to korea but immediately faced downvotes so i deleted it myself. i hope i'm not making another mistake here 😭! please, if you know of another sub that could help me, do tell đŸ©”
I am not what you can call a Kpop fan although I do appreciate the music. I listen mostly to BigBang, AteeZ and some BtS and thats about it.
But now i would like to respectfully ask for your guidance. I am a fan of this character in the game Dead by Daylight: Ji-Woon Hak. I'm actually writing a fic for him.
quick bio: Ji-Woon is a famous Kpop star who turned to murder and torture to create the best music.
here is where i need your help: Im looking for a band or even a solo artist that would fit his vibes. something more sinister, edgy, a little electro maybe. some of the AteeZ songs fit a little but its not close enough imo.
any suggestions?
thank you đŸ«°đŸ«°

Deak's arm was still pretty sore, and he thought about asking if they could stop in the next town. Even if Dad said no to seeing a doctor, they might stop at a convenience store and he could maybe sneak a little bottle of pain pills in among the pile of sweets Mom would film him buying. Even better if he found one of those gel packs that you could use hot or cold and convinced Mom they needed it for when Dan or Dally or Davie got a bump or bruise. It wasn't medicine, really, so she'd probably go for it.
But all of that would mean bringing up stopping, and while Mom might go for it, Dad never would. Dad only stopped when God moved him to, or when they needed to fuel up.
Sometimes, Deak thought about sneaking out at night and figuring a way to siphon the main tank empty, just to strand them somewhere and show Dad what was what. Sometimes...
Sometimes Deak wanted to stay some place a while.
This whole trip was probably a bad idea. Mike tried not to look up from his phone unless he had to, but his sister kept trying to draw his attention to cool stuff she saw outside the window, and sometimes her husband...
Gawd, it was weird to think of that thing as a guy.
Still, his parents had decided he needed to spend the next year living in bum-fuck nowhere with Uncle Ken, and his sister and the thing were driving this way anyhow to check out some shitty little town they wanted to move to, so he ended up sent along.
"It'll be like a family vacation again!" Jenna had said, and Mike nodded along like it was all good.
Sure, it was basically a vacation for her and the freak. For Mike, it was just an inevitable trek to be warehoused for a year so his parents could work on their shitty marriage. He was barely even getting to bring any of his stuff, since he'd be going home next summer, and that sucked. At least he had his computers and guitars, and two portable game systems, plus of course all his clothes; still, he already missed his room and all the things left behind in it.
The only thing he wouldn't miss about home was his parents. All their stupid bullshit was annoying, with the arguing over petty shit. Oh, and the way they treated him like a toddler. Sure, he forgot stuff or did dumb shit sometimes; everyone did. That was no reason to treat him like a drooling loser.
Maybe this trip was a good thing after all.

2024.05.16 21:11 No_Investigator3369 When did you move on from Doona?

Hey Dads, First off thanks a million for the advice and support here. I'm in IT and this and Sysadmin basically consume my days.
Ok on for the question and context. Our little boy is 8 months now. We live down in the Tampa, FL area and while the stroller has been good so far I am thinking of graduating to a separate car seat setup give our larger SUV (GLE 350). My MIL initially complained about the weight of putting it in her car and honestly I can see her point with her age. I don't mind spending extra money to have strollers for different purposes (up to 3) and just think the one trick pony idea has sort of run its course with us.
We'll probably still travel with it, but around town in Florida, it is a hot poly lined stroller. He is still sitting backwards and not sure how much longer that will be for as he is growing fast (25 lbs).
So any care to show off your setup and why you like it? Especially if you came from the Doona. Again, I think I'm looking now for more purpose built items vs all in ones since I can afford the extra space.

CM Septenary DRIVE
Hello and good day to all the fine people of worldbuilding. This is day 4 post 4 of my 10 part series of the release of ‘Septenary’, a creative tool from the project ‘Canon Mode.’ I’m not in a great mood right now because I’m begrudgingly writing this again after a couple days ago when after spending an hour writing this post it got lost in the ether when I tried posting it. F!@# my life. Well whatever doesn’t kill you makes you brighter no one says. So if this post is a little lackluster that’s the excuse I’m using.
And actually on that note, how is everyone actually doing, actually? I’m asking because I haven’t had any feedback on any of these posts yet. I’ve been getting upvotes, which means that at least some of you are liking the posts but that’s all I got. So if anyone’s got the time I’d be really interested in hearing what you guys have to say. I’m not just talking positive feedback or constructive criticism I literally want to know anything you think about it. Basically everything I work on has a reason it was chosen to be made that way, so even something as simple as “the term you used in that one your groups sounds weird” might have a bigger impact than you think because those are the types of things I ultimately take account of.
CM SEPT 2 Fundamentals Extended 1.2 SHEET COLOR
CM SEPT 2 Fundamentals Extended 1.2 SHEET GRAYSCALE
Today we’ll be looking at the ‘Attributes’ group of the ‘Fundamentals’ septenary. This group was originally created with the intent of aiding with character design. The issue when trying to create such a group was that it’s impossible to create a list of all the different types of species and beings that exist. So instead of trying to make a giant list it was instead easier to create a more basic list of things that can then go on to further define the features of something else.
(ATTRIBUTES)
The term ‘Attributes’ was chosen specifically when making this group because the advantage of focusing on just the attributes of certain things means that this entire group is not just applicable to character creation but as well anything else that might have defining features of some sort. To start customizing and giving attributes to things it’s first needed to have something one is wanting to customize. A character, a house, a car, an outfit, a smartphone, or anything else really that’s either tangible or physical can be given any of these attributes.
{MYSTICAL}
The mystical subgroup describes things related to God, spirituality, or the supernatural. Things like halos and wings, horns and pointed tails, clouds and heavenliness, fire and brimstone, religious figures and symbols are all things that might be considered mystical in nature. If one were to take into account ‘Biblically accurate angels’ then we might see giant floating dismembered body parts as mystical attributes as well. Generally speaking though anything that could be considered magical might be something that could be described as having mystical attributes.
{EXTRATERRESTRIAL}
The word ‘extraterrestrial’ was chosen over the word ‘alien’ specifically because of the implication of each word. Extraterrestrial describes things whose origin exists outside of Earth or whatever planet is being discussed. Alien on the other hand only implies that something is foreign to whatever is being described. The difference being is that something that’s extraterrestrial has a completely different origin than something that’s from Earth or a particular planet. The term alien on the other hand doesn’t necessarily describe this, as something that is alien could be foreign but still be of the same origin. That is to say something alien can still be related to the thing being described while something extraterrestrial has no relation to what’s being described.
{MYTHICAL}
The word ‘Mechanical’ was also chosen over the words ‘cyborg’ or ‘robot’ because they were too limiting otherwise. Cyborg and robot are terms which only describe mechanical beings, not necessarily anything else that might be mechanical. You could have a mechanical bird, or maybe mechanical food, or even a mechanical tree. Anything could be mechanical really if one has enough motivation, inspiration and determination.
{MYTHICAL}
When first creating the ‘Mythical’ subgroup it was in an attempt to create a complete list of every mythical being. The problem? That’s impossible, because there are an infinite amount of beings that are already either well established or could be created otherwise. Some of the common ones might be elves, fairies, werewolves, undead, giants, warlocks/wizards/witches, ghosts/spirits, orcs/trolls, dwarves/gnomes, and many many more.
{NATURALISTIC}
The word ‘naturalistic’ was chosen for this subgroup specifically so it could include both forest people and furry people. Walking, talking plants, trees, and animals were the inspiration for this subgroup, basically anything that’s found in a forest could apply. There are a lot of other things that could also be considered naturalistic too though. Rocks, water features, dirt/sand, or anything else really that relates to nature.
{OBJECTIFIED}
Unlike most of the subgroups in the Attributes group, ‘Objectified’ is not a well established idea such as the others. The idea with the objectified subgroup was for it to describe in particular living inanimate beings. Features of objectified things might include blank or missing features, ultra rounded or sharply edged parts, ridged or impossible statures, or exaggerated and unreal characteristics. Really anything that looks like an object could be considered as part of the ‘Objectified’ subgroup.
{SPECTRAL}
This last group is a bit more tricky because the typical defining feature of spectres is that they’re transparent or invisible. That doesn’t leave much room to work with. Other ideas for spectral attributes might include auras, glowingness, dull flat colors and shading, soft edges, broken or damaged parts, wisps, and in general anything ethereal or spirit-like in nature. While not always possible, another feature of spectral things is that they float. They are also typically intangible, meaning they can pass through physical things. The unfortunate difficulty when describing something spectral is that many of the things that could be described this way depend on context and might be situational.
Generally speaking though it could be said that things that are spectral exist on a spectrum. This is because the definition of spectral is ‘of a spectrum.’ It’s not exactly clear what that actually means, but it could be seen as a starting point or inspiration
{Conclusion}
Usually I try to end with something insightful or profound but for this post I just don’t have it. I’m not necessarily upset over the time I spent and lost over the prior version of this post that I was working on as much as it is very upsetting that I lost the specific work I wrote. While I’m pretty sure I still covered the important ideas for this installment there still were a few very specific things that I wrote that I’ll never remember. I think the worst part about rewriting this post wasn’t that I necessarily couldn’t remember everything I wanted to say, it’s just that the inspiration to write it was gone. The quality of this post as a result really plummeted because of the fact that I was already aware of everything I wrote and no longer had that initial inspiration.
I think if I were to end on any note this time I’d say I think it’s interesting the progression from when I first came up with this idea to how it turned out. It started with me trying to list literally every type of entity or being someone might want to make into a character. Then it turned into trying to make a group of base characteristics which could then go on to define an already existent being. And it was only later that I came to the conclusion that it was possible to make the group more general by calling it attributes which opens it up to it being able to describe pretty much anything that has defining features of some sort. I think being aware of that progression has been a very valuable learning experience for me because it explores further these sort of all-encompassing ideas.
That’s all for this post. Thank you for reading and I hope you all have a wonderful day!

2024.05.16 21:00 dani26795 [FIFA 07] World Wide League 07 Week 3 Day 3 (15th-13th Divisions)

Following the previous post here’s a recap of the 3rd day from the 3rd week of the "World Wide League 07" project (full playlist of it can be found here).
Some notes:
You can find descriptions of each division as well as the teams participating in them on the Week 1 posts previously submitted in this subreddit.
Every time you see a team with their name in bold, it's a team of which every match will be recorded.
For ordering the leaderboard table, I simply use whatever the game displays (when there are full ties, it simply orders the teams at random) and then do some correlation since once the week of matches is done, the first match of the next week happens automatically offscreen.

The Black Keys (description in the post) Genre: blues rock, garage rock, indie rock, Lo-Fi
Let's get to know The Black Keys band a little bit.
I first heard this band when I was about 16 years old in the song Lo/Hi. The mix of garage rock and blues struck me and made me check out the other tracks of this band. That's how I fell in love. I listened non-stop to their albums and couldn't understand how such a simple rhythm and lightness made me shake my head. The band is incredibly driven. A little bit about the creation of the band and biography..
The Black Keys are an American rock duo formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001. The group consists of Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums). The duo began as an independent act, recording music in basements and self-producing their records, before they eventually emerged as one of the most popular garage rock artists during a second wave of the genre's revival in the 2000s. The band's raw blues rock sound draws heavily from Auerbach's blues influences, including Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside, Howlin' Wolf, and Robert Johnson.
Friends since childhood, Auerbach and Carney founded the group after dropping out of college. After signing with indie label Alive, they released their debut album, The Big Come Up (2002), which earned them a new deal with Fat Possum Records. Over the next decade, the Black Keys built an underground fanbase through extensive touring of small clubs, frequent album releases and music festival appearances, and broad licensing of their songs. Their third album, Rubber Factory (2004), received critical acclaim and boosted the band's profile, eventually leading to a record deal with major label Nonesuch Records in 2006. After self-producing and recording their first four records in makeshift studios, the duo completed Attack & Release (2008) in a professional studio and hired producer Danger Mouse, who subsequently became a frequent collaborator with the band.
The group's commercial breakthrough came in 2010 with Brothers, which along with its popular single "Tighten Up", won three Grammy Awards. Their 2011 follow-up El Camino received strong reviews and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart, leading to the first arena concert tour of the band's career, the El Camino Tour. The album and its hit single "Lonely Boy" won three Grammy Awards. In 2014, they released their eighth album, Turn Blue, their first number-one record in the US, Canada, and Australia. After completing the Turn Blue Tour in 2015, the duo took a hiatus for several years to work on side projects and produce other artists. They returned in 2019 with their ninth album, Let's Rock. They have since released three additional studio albums: Delta Kream (2021), consisting of hill country blues covers; Dropout Boogie (2022); and Ohio Players (2024).
Guitarist and vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney first met when they were eight or nine years old while living in the same neighborhood of Akron, Ohio a couple houses down from each other. Auerbach and Carney both come from musical backgrounds. Auerbach is the cousin of guitarist Robert Quine, a "veteran of New York's avant-rock scene." Carney is the nephew of saxophonist Ralph Carney, who performed on several Tom Waits albums. While attending Firestone High School, they became friends, though they were part of different crowds —Auerbach was captain of the high school soccer team, while Carney was a social outcast. Encouraged by their brothers, the duo began jamming together in 1996, as Auerbach was learning guitar at the time and Carney owned a four-track recorder and a drum set. After graduating, both briefly attended the University of Akron before dropping out.
According to an interview on NPR's Fresh Air, the group's name "the Black Keys" came from an acquaintance diagnosed with schizophrenia, Alfred McMoore. He would leave incoherent messages on their answering machines referring to their fathers as "black keys" such as "D flat" when he was upset with them.On March 20, 2002, the duo played their first live show at Cleveland's Beachland Ballroom and Tavern to an audience of approximately eight people. The band's debut album, The Big Come Up, was recorded entirely in Carney's basement on an 8-track tape recorder in lo-fi and was released in May 2002, three months after they signed to Alive. The album, a mix of eight original tracks and five cover songs, forged a raw blues rock sound for the group; the covers included tracks originally by blues musicians Muddy Waters, Junior Kimbrough, and R. L. Burnside. Two tracks, covers of the traditional blues standard "Leavin' Trunk" and the Beatles' song "She Said, She Said", were released as a single on Isota Records. The track "I'll Be Your Man" would later be used as the theme song for the HBO series Hung. In order to help fund a tour, Auerbach and Carney took jobs mowing lawns for a landlord. Despite modest sales for The Big Come Up, it gained a cult following and attracted attention from critics, eventually landing the group a record deal with Fat Possum Records.

I messed up my paint with Meguiars Ultimate Compound
Vehicle: Dodge Charger T Scatpack
I went ahead and claybar’d my Hood and Top of the front bumper and when the sunlight hits these areas at a certain angle you can see it created these little spots and it’s very noticeable.
Any idea on what should I do? Should I take it to somebody that should buff it? Btw, I do not know the terminology of the route I should take whether it’s “buffing” or “paint correct” but what is my next step in fixing this? I just want these areas to be how they were before I took the compound and rubbed it in.
I took an applicator pad and put like 3 dots of the compound and rubbed it in. Seems like it stuck to the paint as I put those 3 dots on the pad

2024.05.16 20:53 flurp41 Are all English words connected by 6 degrees of separation?

I've been toying with a thought experiment for a while and would love to hear from some actual linguists.
Basically, I've been playing this game that asks you to connect 2 random words together using only their synonyms. With all the multiple meanings that words have, it's pretty fun and can be surprising and satisfying. It's got me wondering if it's truly possible to get from any English word to any other English word within 6 (or some other number of) degrees of their synonyms.
I guess what I'm asking is what does the shape of the web of English synonyms look like? Surely there are some words that just have no synonyms and are little islands, but are most words interconnected in a giant blob, or is it maybe more like something of a solar system, with "hub" words serving as stars that link out in many different directions to many different meanings...
I'm curious if anyone has thoughts or a way they would approach this. Maybe it's more a question for math? Sorry if this has made no sense (I promise I'm not high!).

MAY 16, 2024 VCU.V VIZSLA COPPER PROVIDES CORPORATE UPDATE AND POPLAR COPPER-GOLD PROJECT STRATEGY UPDATE
https://preview.redd.it/34g1xk8p4u0d1.png?width=3500&format=png&auto=webp&s=a17a406513b2f4504d2baef8afcaec5e26a47656
VANCOUVER, BC , May 16, 2024 /CNW/ - Vizsla Copper Corp. (TSXV: VCU) (OTCQB: VCUFF) (" Vizsla Copper " or the " Company ") is pleased to announce the appointment of Craig Parry , Executive Chairman, to the role of Chief Executive Officer (" CEO "), and further information on the newly acquired Poplar Project ( "Poplar" or the "Project" ). The Poplar Project is home to the Poplar Deposit (the "Deposit" ), a large porphyry-related copper-gold-molybdenum deposit that is one of the most advanced pre-production copper projects in British Columbia
HIGHLIGHTS:
  • CEO. Craig Parry , Executive Chairman, has assumed the role of CEO.
  • Large, Gold-Rich Resource Base. The Project hosts a current undiluted indicated mineral resource of 152.3 million tonnes grading 0.32% copper, 0.009% molybdenum, 0.09 g/t gold and 2.58 g/t silver and an undiluted inferred mineral resource of 139.3 million tonnes grading 0.29% copper, 0.005% molybdenum, 0.07 g/t gold and 4.95 g/t silver.
  • Development Potential. The Poplar Deposit is a large, near-surface copper deposit that extends to the top of the bedrock and is covered only by a thin veneer (5- 10m thick) of overburden. It possesses a higher-grade core that also extends to the top of the bedrock and may be beneficial to phased mining scenarios.
  • Exploration Potential. Very little exploration drilling or ground geophysical surveying has been completed outside of the immediate Poplar deposit area, suggesting terrific potential for the discovery of additional porphyry-related mineralization.
" With the completion of the Universal Copper transaction, I look forward to taking a more active role in the Company's day-to-day operations " stated Craig Parry , Executive Chairman of the Company. " Since Vizsla Copper's inception, we've succeeded in adding multiple exciting development and exploration assets, and we're just getting started. Vizsla Copper is in a terrific position with the price of copper approaching $5 per pound and strong tailwinds continuing to dominate the sector."
"Now that we've had a chance to absorb and reflect on the exploration data from the Poplar Project, I'm very impressed by the development potential and exploration opportunity it provides " commented Steve Blower , Vice President, Exploration of the Company. " With a significant precious metal component, large size and location essentially at surface, this deposit is impressive
MANAGEMENT CHANGE
With the continuing evolution of the Company, Mr. Craig Parry has assumed the role of CEO and will remain Chair of the Company's Board of Directors. Craig brings a track record of creating shareholder value in previous CEO roles. Most recently, in his role as CEO of IsoEnergy, he turned an early-stage exploration spinout company into a much larger discovery success story in the uranium space. Mr. Chris Donaldson , remaining as a director of the Company, will step down as CEO effective immediately so that he can devote more time to other pursuits. The Company is appreciative of Chris's efforts as the former CEO.
POPLAR PROJECT
The 39,000-hectare Poplar Project hosts a porphyry-related copper and gold deposit, the Poplar Deposit (Figures 1 and 2). The top 10 historical drill hole intersections (>0.2% Cu) in the Poplar Deposit, ranked by Grade*Length (%Cu*m) are provided in Table 1. The top ranked drill hole was recently completed in 2021 by Universal Copper. Drill hole 21-PC-131 intersected 432.8m @ 0.42% Cu, 0.011% Mo, 0.15 g/t Au and 1.80 g/t Ag (0.58% Cueq 1,2 ) from 2.2m
The Poplar Deposit has a historical indicated mineral resource of 152.3 million tonnes grading 0.32% copper, 0.009% molybdenum, 0.09 g/t gold and 2.58 g/t silver and a historical inferred mineral resource of 139.3 million tonnes grading 0.29% copper, 0.005% molybdenum, 0.07 g/t gold and 4.95 g/t silver (above a cut-off grade of 0.20% copper). The historical mineral resource estimate was prepared for Universal Copper in September, 2021. It is not being treated as a current Mineral Resource Estimate, as the Company has not yet had it verified by an Independent Qualified Person. However, the recent date of the Universal estimate and the lack of drilling completed since that date suggests that the historical estimate is relevant. Readers are cautioned that mineral resources, which are not mineral reserves, do not have demonstrated economic viability.
The Poplar Project is located in mining country, 35km from the Huckleberry Copper Mine. The road accessible property is bisected by a 138 Kva hydroelectric line and lies 88km from the rail head at Houston and 400km from the deep-water port at Prince Rupert by rail.

DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY
The Company will be updating the Mineral Resource Estimate for the Poplar Deposit to bring it up to current status. This will provide important inputs to planned internal scoping level trade-off studies which will be used to rank and prioritize development scenarios amongst the various projects and deposits within the Company. The results of the internal scoping studies will determine the path forward for a Preliminary Economic Analysis.

2024.05.16 20:47 vacuumkoala Best route for Seattle, WA to Portland, OR

I know of the famous STP route but I heard it is absolutely awful when not riding with a large group. So many cars, busy roads, etc.
Im looking for a route that gets us away from busy roads, maybe a bit of gravel.
I found this thread HERE in bikepacking . It looks like its pretty heavy on the off-road and Im looking for a mixture of road/gravel, maybe some very light single-track if needed.
I also found this thread HERE in this subreddit from 9 years ago. But it wasnt super extensive and thinks are borken.
I also found this suggested gravel/ little to no traffic route on Rene Herse blog posted by Jan Heine 10 years ago. But the link to their route is broken and I can't find it anywhere.
Any suggestions or experiences to share? any route on RidewGPS you can link?

2024.05.16 20:40 nicolaasnegron Times Tough? I've got a spare copy of All-in-One A+ Exam Guide!

Hi all,
I've been in IT for nearly a decade and am finally getting around to taking Sec+. Planning to take A+ afterwards and then close out the year strong with Network+. This sub has been really helpful along the way and I would Love to give back.
I ended up with a spare hardcover copy of the All-in-One A+ Exam Guide. It was a little dinged up during delivery, so I've got a replacement on the way. Will mail it to the first person to name their favorite Wizard. If you can pay shipping, great -- otherwise, I've got your back. LMK

2024.05.16 20:38 ljahern Some thoughts on weapon balance and ballistics in video games.

I am offering this information in the hopes that it will help the developers at Arrow Head with weapon balance and consistency.
Ballistics is an inceadibly complicated science and trying to translate it into a game is a daunting task and I don't envy anyone who has to do it.
That being said lets jump in and break things down a little. Lets start with the obvious, ballistic weapons use bullets to do damage. It is the cartridge inside of the weapon that determines the mass and velocity of the projectile/bullet that actullay and ultimatly does the damage.
The weapon can have some influence over projectile velocity I.E. longer barrels can increase velocity over shorter barrels, so two different weapons using the same cartridge but with different barrel lengths can have different damage values in a video game. But more on that later.
The question here is, how do we make things balanced and consistant?
My sugestion is, let's use some very basic ballistic math to get a base line for the cartridges our video game weapons might be using.
(Mass) x (Vellocity squared) devided by (64.89)
is the formula used to determine how much energy in foot pounds a projectile will have at the muzzle of a weapon. In this formula Mass is in pounds and Velocity is in feet per second.
The plan is to use this formula to set a base line that we can use for comparison of our video game weapons.
For example a 5.56 NATO (5.56x45) cartidge fires a 70grain bullet at 2900 feet per second out of a 20inch barrel.
Let's plug this data into the formula. This formula requiers the mass to be in pounds so we need to convert the 70grain weight of the bullet to pounds (1 grain = .000143 pounds) so (70grains) equals (.01001 pounds). Plugging all of this into the formula and we get a muzzle energy of 1297 ft. lbs.
So how is this usefull? Well we we have now established a base line to work with. Now lets attach this value to an in game weapon, say the trusty liberator assault rifle and we asighn the weapon a damage out-put value, say 60 points. now 1297 foot ounds of muzzle energey equals 60 points of in game damage.
Now lets say we have a weapon that uses a different cartidge, say the 7.62 NATO (7.62x51). This cartridge fires a 150grain bullet at 2800 feet per second out of a 22inch barrel.
Useing the same formula, again converting the 150grain weight to pounds first and we get a muzzle energy of 2592 ft. lbs.
After comparing the two cartridges we find that the 7.62 Nato cartridge is putting out twice as much energy as the 5.56 Nato cartridge, so this new weapon can do as much as 120 points of in game damage.
While it's true that there are more factors in this game than just base damage to consider this system can bring some consistancy to the difficult task of weapon balancing. Now for every new weapon introduced we have a base line for comparison and we can adjust barrel lenght, ammunitoin capacity, accuracy, rate of fire and various types of ammunition (incendary, explosive, armor piercing ect.) to fine tune the balance.
A note on barrel length for every inch of change in barrel length, shorter or longer, bullet velocity will decrease or increase by 25 feet per second, so there will be a 200 foot per second difference in velocity between a 16inch barrel and a 24inch barrel (to be clear, longer barrels produce higher velocities). This can be pluged into the formula and used as a comparrison, if there is a resulting change in velocity of 10% then the damage changes by 10%. This offers a little bit more fine tuning.
The other cool thing about using this system is that foot pounds of energy can be converted to watts.
(1 watt = .35582 ft. lbs. of energy) we can now compare the energy weapons to balistic weapons for further fine tuenig.
One final thought. If the damages on the higher powered ammunition seem out of hand convert some of that damage to knock back or stun.
Some ballistic data:
Pistol cartridges: 9x19 Parabellum 115gr @ 1150fps 4" barrel
10mm Autmatic 180gr @ 1150fps 5" barrel
357 Magnum 125gr @ 1400fps 8" barrel
44 Magmum 240gr @ 1400fps 7.5" barrel
50 Action express 300gr @ 1400fps 6" barrel
Rifle cartridges: 5.56 Nato 70gr @ 2900fps 20" barrel
277 furry 140gr @ 2970fps 16" barrel
7.62 Nato 150gr @ 2800fps 22" barrel
7.62x39 R 123gr @ 2200fps 20" barrel
30-06 Springfield 165gr @ 2850fps 24" barrel
300 Winchester Magnum 200gr @ 2900fps 25" barrel
338 Lapua Magnum 225gr @ 2950fps 25" barrel
50 BMG 750gr @ 2900fps 36" barrel
Cannon shell: 20x102 M61 Vulcan HE (high explosive) 1620gr @ 3350fps 85.6" barrel
20x102 M61 Vulcan Semi armor piercing high explosive (SAPHEI) 1535gr @ 3410fps 85.6" barrel
20x102 M61 Vulcan Armor piercing discarding sabot enhanced leathality (APDSEL)
1535gr @ 3610fps 85.6" barrel
Ultimately this is probably just a stupid over-thougth solution to a none existant problem. But if it's helpfull awesome and of it's useless and dumb, thats cool to.

2024.05.16 20:33 TrevorVerges The Mollusk Storyline Daydream (Seven Years late)

So Long story short I stumbled onto a Post by u/pigsonbroadway talking about their take on The Mollusk. and in that thread was a very rad post by u/alwayspolite1999 where they spun a very interesting full story to go with the album that really inspired me. I spent the last 3 hours typing up this response but i think the thread is locked because it wont let me comment. I will post my long thoughts about it here for anyone that might appreciate it. Stay cool yall.
Hey hey, I know I'm nearly 7 years late on this, but thank you for giving me a framework for a very rad hour long relaxing daydream. I changed a few things in my head from this plot but i think it's safe to say you've irrevocably altered this entire album for me. Well done mate.
I wanna share my take on it, just in case you're feeling it or someone else likes it.
I'm imagining a story a lot like yours, about a man growing up and dealing with processing trauma, finding love, and ultimately watching his child leave. I kinda cut the Narrator character and replaced him with a thematic recurring violent masculinity "character" of sorts, like no one character is to blame for the protagonist's continued trauma and misfortune. I couldn't help but also imagine it as a play, so here goes.
  1. Dancing in the show tonight: A montage of sorts, with a young boy being raised by a mother and father, as the father slowly loses interest, neglects the child, and displays acts of violence, that are sometimes seen, but sometimes obfuscated from the boy by his mother. Eventually he experiences it directly at his father's hand. Blood/Violence, and subsequently the boy's traumatic thoughts, would be depicted with swirling red ribbons around him, fabric dancing about, etc, and these moments are all intrinsically tied to the ocean/beachside, where they live. By the end of the song, the boy's father gets on a boat and leaves the two on the beach, establishing a dreadful feeling for the viewer and character tied to the ocean. These events don't exactly suit the tone of DitST but that's part of the experience and ties into the ending.
  2. The Mollusk: The boy, slightly older, finds a little mollusk, seeding some type of positive connection with the ocean that could counteract his trauma, and perhaps (foreshadowing ;) ) represent his ultimate positive reconciliation with the ocean. He is desperate for a father figure and finds himself spending time around a few these untrustworthy and unsavory seamen. Perhaps they are mocking the boy by the end, tossing the mollusk around. The boy gets the mollusk back eventually and takes it back to the beach and lets it go. I hate that the whimsical nature of The Mollusk lends itself so well to a dissonance like this. In a vacuum The Mollusk is a very peaceful lovely song.
  3. Polka Dot Tail: The boy comes close to experiencing another traumatic situation, involving one of these drunken sailor men, but as you wrote, escapes and runs, trailed by the telltale red cloth setting in place further a lifelong discomfort/trauma response to the ocean. He returns home to his mother, who packs up everything and they move far away from the ocean, leaving their traumatic past behind, running somewhere.
  4. Jonny on the Spot: A Montage of the boy, now older, working hard, helping his mother, exhausted, a young man but already turning to getting wasted, staying out late, and associating with the wrong people, filling a hole somewhere in his heart. Eventually he does crash his car, stumbling out onto the beach, anxious, and running into a nearby bar, looking back at his fucked up Chevy.
  5. Mutilated Lips: A chaotic bar scene, surrounded my men, most outfits incorporating the color red somewhere. The Boy haunted by his pervasive trauma in this place. Until, while he's downing glasses, a waitress brushes his hand and sees his scratches, and meets his gaze. The drunkenness of course paints the scene as a merpeople atlantis ass underwater scene, bringing back ocean imagery to tie to the Boy's pain. The waitress has got some type of trauma as well, a cloth or ribbon or light effect (how do stage shows do mental effects like this? lol.) in her own color, let's say blue. They share a long passionate loving night together in her beachside shack, understand each other's pain and loneliness in a way the typical crowd at this seaside bar dont. They symbolize this my giving each other a piece of that fabric, trading blue for red. The blue and red cloth tangles and mingles in a new way and they're draped in purple, finding a peace.
  6. The Blarney Stone: They return to the bar and the girl he met gets pulled into song and obnoxious drunken partying, the two young protagonists submerged in a loud, crass scene. She plays her usual role in this, though can't help but glance over at her new love. He starts to see her as part of this world, untouchable, so closely associated with this oceanic world of pain for him that he can't handle it. He panics and tries to leave, starting up his messed up car. She runs out to try to stop him but almost lashes out at her, realizing his aversion to this place and these people brings up too much agony, and associating her with that would be unfair to her, and he leaves. Realistically you dont fall in love with someone and run away in one night but it makes a good play.
  7. It's Gonna be Alright: The Boy wanders out, into a warped undersea version of the previous beach scene with his crashed car. He kinda hits an emotional rock bottom after experiencing the first thing he could consider love or companionship and fucking it up, assumedly. He feels broken, and stares out over a deep dark chasm of fish and kelp and shit as he tries to convince himself he did the right thing, staying there all night. Meanwhile, throughout the song, the Girl goes back to her shack, looks at an old ring she keeps in a box, and by the end of the song, while Boy finds himself in the darkest place, she takes the ring and goes out to the beach, seeing a ship approach as she holds it.
  8. The Golden Eel: A majestic Golden Eel appears to the Boy, it comes to him in... a vision? A mental realization? a spiritual awakening? He's face to face with this beautiful creature. Slowly all his red cloth is taken from him. It's wound up by the eel and wrapped around him, turning to his new outfit, the red effect that represents the trauma replaced by a strengthened gold cloth resolve that now accompanies him. The Eel swims away. He wakes up on the beach (we drop the underwater imagery here) and finds the Girl's blue scarf tucked into his jacket, and jumps up and starts running back. (mirroring the scene earlier with him as a child running away on the beach, but this time he's in control, running towards something.) He gets back to the bar and the owners point out to a boat leaving, sailing away. He's just missed her.
  9. Cold Blows the Wind: Meanwhile, we go to the flashback to the Girl, (back to the aquatic imagery from here on out until She Wanted to Leave.) before her facial disfiguration, a montage of her being courted by some other fish sailor man. He's wearing bright cobalt blue. They're sailing together with a crew, and they're very close, eventually him proposing and giving her a ring. Immediately after, their ship gets hit by a cannonball and there's a big battle with another ship. Everything's on fire, she gets injured, and her love dies, as he hands her his bloodstained blue scarf. Later, she makes him a grave, and is wearing the ring still, eventually finding that same seaside bar. She starts working there, all the men there draped in blue fabric, reminding her of her pain. Present day, we see her on a boat, holding the Red scarf. She takes the ring and throws it into the water.
  10. Pink Eye: The Boy, renewed with zest and energy to go find the Girl, works on his "Car", making a wild looking boat. He says goodbye to his mother then he just starts sailing.
  11. Waving my Dick in the Wind: Fun upbeat montage. He sails around, showing people the scarf, and every time he meets some new wild sea person, they point, as if they're slowly leading him to her. He grows a beard, becomes a captain, slowly picking up a colorful crew of people helping him. By this point he's fully embraced the red, but wears that blue scarf everywhere. He sails his wild Chevy boat around. Song culminates in ol "Jimmy Wilson" doing a crazy tap dance, and at the end, informing the Boy about the woman, and showing him a picture of her and her Child (without and eye).
  12. Buckingham Green: (This is my favorite song on the album) We go back to the girl being born, living with her mother somewhere. Lets say the child is missing one eye rather than both, half her face disfigured. Her mother tries to protect her, perhaps too much from judgmental eyes, telling her stories, raising her kindly, but one day she opens her (supposedly) missing eye and it shines gold, and they decide to hide it. Meanwhile, The Boy braves a fierce storm, following a golden glow on the horizon towards where the Girl and the Child are, even helped through the worst of the storm by the Mollusk (Hell yeah). Eventually he arrives and meets the child, and there's a big dramatic ass reunion scene with the Boy, the Girl and the mollusk and all the fish people. The Boy and the Girl wrap their scarves together and put them around the girl, and the scarves transform into a golden one, symbolizing the Boy's commitment to love his child and break a cycle of neglect, and the Girl's closure, being able to move on from her lost love and onto this new family. (or something, idk) The girl opens that other eye and it glows gold again. and The Golden Eel bursts out of the Mollusk as everyone celebrates. The Boy and Girl get their new Opalescent Mollusk outfits and everyone gets hype. Bring in Boy's mom too, fuck it. How all this is supposed to happen in 3:18 i dont know but that's for the director to figure out.
  13. Ocean man: Exactly as you described. No fucking notes. Hype ending. Maybe this part starts with the Eel haha.
  14. She Wanted to leave: Now the girl is older. The story of course takes a somber turn where, a tale as old as time, a sailor comes along and woos the young lady. The Boy dips back into his trauma a little bit, swearing revenge, practically begging his girl to stay, going through the throes of a parent watching his child grow up and leave him behind. She obviously refuses, following her new life and her new path, apart from him. Not as heartlessly as he'd like to imagine though. Its melodramatic.
14b. Dancing in the Show reprise: This time though, instead of being alone in his pain, his mother and wife can be there to hold his hand, pick him up, and wave goodbye to the sailors' ship together as it leaves for sea. She waves back happily from the deck. Its a sad departure but doesn't have to be a hopeless goodbye like the ones the characters felt in their youth. It can end with the three of them sitting on the beach together and then settling back into their home, the red and blue and gold scarves are hung up somewhere on the roof of something as the sea breeze blows through them.
I don't know who you are but I'm really glad your interpretation touched me in the way that it did. Whoever you are I hope you're having a good life, and rock on.

2024.05.16 20:32 potionexplosion an update on my honeydew cookies :)

it's currently 2:32 pm, and i've been baking since roughly 9:30-10 am ish.
first batch a couple weeks ago was definitely atrocious. didn't even come together; i threw out an entire bowl of runny dough. but i was not deterred.
so, today! i got cookies!! i did a bunch of small batches to figure out the best "conditions" -- how much chill time, or no chilling at all, if i needed to coat them in a little flour to help them hold shape in the oven... these cookies mostly taste like coconut oil, so i put together a honeydew glaze.
the hope is that in a month or two when honeydew are more in season, i can do the opposite. aka, a cookie that tastes like honeydew, with a coconut glaze. that was my original hope. i'm optimistic and (mostly) patient!! for now, my cookies taste the way i want to, even if backwards, and they're EDIBLE, so who cares!

2024.05.16 20:26 No-irah Note air 3C for physics teaching

I've been using a remarkable 2 for around a year now, really great battery life and pdf/notes management.
However, the lack of a 4th pen colour (green), actual Google Drive integration and easy screen sharing is becoming frustrating. I use a lot of colours in my PDFs and schematics, and I would love to be able to easily screen share and see colours even if just a little. Being able to see my .ods note sheets would be really nice for teachers meetings too, and a bit of online browsing is a plus (I have some reports to fill online every week and do that on my phone currently).
I'm looking for advice and tips around this matter before eventually switching. I already love the portrait mode with my own keyboard, but I'm not sure the note taking capabilities compare to the rM2.
Basically, I produce PDFs on my personal computer and can push them to GitHub or Google Drive, and I'd love to go to school knowing I can access these and annotate them during class without having to drag & drop making sure I don't forget PDFs or versions, all of that in colour, and be able to screen share side-by-side A4 pages with left-to-right scrolling with enough screen space to write on it.
On another note, if anyone installed and used neovim using termux on a similar device, I'd be quite interested to know about it!
Thanks for any feedback you'd be willing to give me!
