Intensive Acting and Modeling Workshops January 5 & 6
While these events don't take place until after the holidays, I am listing them early because I thought they might make a fun holiday gift for someone special and there is a special holiday discount code 'PC124', which offers $100 off until December 25th.
Liz McCaffrey, a local to Park City for 30 years with over a decade of experience in the entertainment industry, is hosting Intensive Acting and Modeling Workshops. The first, an On Camera Acting Workshop for Commercials, Film, and TV, is set for January 5th, followed by an Intensive Modeling Workshop on January 6th. These workshops are organized by a committed team at True Talent Network, with more details available at www.truetalentnetwork.com.
Liz's journey in the industry, coupled with Utah's growing attractiveness for film and TV projects, fuels her passion to see more talent emerge from Park City and smaller towns. She firmly believes in the importance of nurturing the creative side in everyone and expanding opportunities, regardless of location. Additionally, attendees can look forward to Improv Workshops coming in February. COST: $349

Maestro @ Park City Film December 15 - 17, Fri & Sat @ 7:00 PM / Sun 6:00 PM
From Director Bradley Cooper, “Maestro” is the towering and fearless love story chronicling the lifelong relationship between cultural icon Leonard Bernstein (Bradley Cooper) and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein (Carey Mulligan). A love letter to life and art, “Maestro,” at its core, is an emotionally epic portrayal of family and love.
“A symphonic love story with sparkling, awards-worthy performances. It’s a strange thing to say about an actress with umpteen film credits behind her, but Carey Mulligan is a genuine revelation here. She’s the beating heart of the film.” – Time Out Wine and beer available for purchase Friday and Saturday nights.

The Boys in The Boat: Park City Film Tuesday, December 19 @ 7:00 PM
Based on the best-selling book by Daniel James Brown, “The Boys In The Boat” tells the story of the bootstrapping University of Washington junior varsity rowing team that — against all odds — went on to represent the USA at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
The true story, a rousing tale as much as a significant piece of history, takes place in post-Depression Washington state. Joe Rantz, a self-starter abandoned by his father and stepmother at a young age, lives in a shanty town and dreams big. Although he’s stubborn and hard working to a fault, self determination doesn’t pay the bills. Luckily, a fellow student encourages Joe to try out for the university rowing team, a spot that would come with food and lodging and enough money to pay for school.
Though they’re all from different backgrounds and bring drastically contrasting perspectives to the boat, the crew that was formed became a unit — and eventually an unbreakable bond. They go on to beat their local rival, securing a place representing the USA at the Olympics and overcoming incredible adversity to win the gold.
A true underdog tale about working as a team, “The Boys In The Boat” delivers a heartwarming and bold tale of perseverance and unity.

Audubon Christmas Bird Count @ Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Sunday, December 17, from 7:45 AM - 12:00 PM
Utah Division of Wildlife Resources invites bird-watchers of all levels to join the 14th Audubon Christmas Bird Count until Jan. 5, 2024.
Participants will follow designated routes in 15-mile circles, counting every bird seen or heard - from Jordanelle North to Jeremy Ranch and Summit Park East to Rockport and Peoa. This crucial data aids in assessing bird population health and global conservation efforts and acts as an annual census for birds. This is not a guided event - you should be able to identify birds on your own or with a team. Teams meet at Swaner Preserve to get their assignments.

2022.10.23 19:53 aldithings All the Advent Calendars and Holiday Calendars

We had a sneak peak ad last week that had a lot of the Aldi Advent Calendars but it looks like the full list is now out. There could still be a few that aren't listed yet but I think they are all here now.
Most will be released on November 2, 2022 but a few of them will be released later.
All the info I have is here: https://aldithings.com/aldi-advent-calendars/ and it will be updated if I find any more info.
I also have a list of likely varieties that will be included in the wine, beer, and hard seltzer calendars.

Aldi Alcohol Calendars

Aldi Food and Candy Holiday Calendars

Aldi Toy and Kids Advent Calendars

Aldi Craft, Clothes, and Home Advent Calendars

Aldi Pet Advent Calendars

2022.07.14 01:54 8th_Hurdle [ROLEPLAY] A Third Way Out

8th January 2070;
Esposito was abroad for a family meeting, for the fields of Austria lay white and gold with the wealth of the estates of the patriarch. As Victor looked into the book that laid out the recent history, he was taken back some 70 years ago, back all the way to the year 2000, from which, a political journey had begun.
‘Familial connections, across borders and across great distances, have now become a defining feature of the greater Esposito family. No longer was it simply confined to the gentle shores of Lac Léman, forever covered with cloud; instead, a new opportunity brought new prosperity to the family, and by prosperity, wealth must be connected, and no wealth was greater than that of the old EU. Indeed, it was enough to bring a certain Maurice Esposito into the world of politics, yet the best prospects for a shakeup lay not in the Elysée, where a Napoléon ruled once again, but rather, it lay in the schools of Di Maio and Saggio.
The schools bought great success to their candidates, and so, with both M5S and Lega secure in their futures, Maurice took a leap, and fell flat on his face. A quick falling-out with Saggio, due to his preference of Di Maio (although not his M5S party), was all that let him fester on the party’s left-most extremes. All it required, he thought, was a quick bit of waiting for Saggio to fall, and once that had occurred, he could then take Italy off in a better direction with France, and they could rule Europe together – how about that?
The remaining problem for Esposito was the time it took for Saggio to be removed. Thirteen years, one Downfall, one 2042 Crisis, and one Vittorini takeover later, he was finally inducted into the party, he was finally in power... except Lega was back again in the opposition.
It did not allow Esposito to make his choices – the wait had allowed him to gain a beautiful wife, and a large family of 4 children, all of whom were cherished. “A Man of 2000 can be a good man after all,” laughed Maurice whenever they joked of his commitments. It did not matter to him – friends were temporary, but power, when gained, was forever. A dynasty could then go follow him, and so, a new generation were trained – 4 children to rule the country, each in a different field, for him to reign as Prime Minister over.
The choice was clear; the oldest, Thibault, was to become the Minister of the Interior; the next, Thomas, was to be the Foreign Minister; afterwards, the third-oldest of Victor was to become the Economics Minister; and, the youngest, Henri, was to take the reins of the Minister of Justice. 4 was all that were needed, and from there, nothing needed to go wrong...
As always, plans did change. A paralysation of Thomas from the waist down in 2050 did force Maurice into changing his plans somewhat with the family – they would just involve the Ruinis as well, and so a dual-dynasty was formed. The most notable woman in the family other than Valeria, namely Marine, was married to Thibault, and all was well.
Over time, as the need for an Economics Minister grew far faster than the need for any other Minister type, and as Lega became involved in governing, the old man of Maurice, now 10 years the Pentarchy’s senior, decided to call it quits, and so, Victor was promoted, and so took the place of Maurice on the main council, and continues the legacy of the Esposito family on to today.’
“What a load of pompous,” Victor merely noted, and as he stood back, a certain need for a meal arose in his stomach. Midday had only been reached 1 hour ago, and as he stepped back into the streets of Wörgl, Victor felt oddly out-of-place. Here he was, in tailored, luxury, and not-at-all cheap clothes, walking through a town wracked with the beginnings of decay. A population rise had stalled sometime in the 2040s, and as the council budget stopped rising, the town began to fall in on itself. At least the railway still survived – fast trains to Innsbruck one way and to Salzburg the other, and so it became commuters who called Wörgl their home.
Maurice called it his home simply because it was a probable home of the person who kidnapped Saggio, a person wished to be met.
Back in the present, a few restaurants had remained open for lunch, rather than simply only cater to the lucrative dinner trade. Thereby, it was quite an easy choice for Victor to just enter an establishment that he knew was worthy – Moser’s, opposite a white-plastered church – and so ordered, and consumed, a hearty Caesar Salad and glass of red wine. It was more than satisfactory, so the chef was thanked (“Thank you Herr Moser!”) before Victor got on with his day, and so walked right next door, and into a curiosity shop.
There, Victor could leave those prior commitments behind, and so, enter the world that emulated his mind. There were books on one shelf, a series of old discs on another, more clothes hanging on racks in the middle of the room, and all manner of knick-knacks and antiques, dusty, which had lay on the same tables for 5 years. Beyond a door, was a toilet, which was exactly what Victor needed; and, on the other side, a door that held yellow tape with Achtung! written all over them.
It just was a shame that he fell through the tape as the toilet door opened unexpectedly, pushing the politician off-kilter, and down, and down, and further down, through a door at the bottom, and into a drunken faint.
“Oh shit. How did you end up in such a state?”
The voice was calming, formal, and came in a slight Cumbric accent.
“Woa... who... eh?”
“Oh, you ain’t seeming mint anymore. You’ve got a big bruise on that noggin of yours, and a bit of blood also. At least you’ve been a little drunk, that’ll help the transition a little – care for a sandwich?”
Waking up a bit more, but with bleary vision, the more heavily emphasised accent was confusing Victor, and he could only sight a whitewashed ceiling, with a glass chandelier close behind him. No answer came forward, except a slight groan.
“Oh good, you’re waking. I’ll help you uuuppp!” and so the Cumbrian aided up Victor to his feet, and then asked, “So, which of the worlds do you come from? Name the present year.”
“20... 70.”
“Hmm. One of the two paths do lead to that date, which of them I do not know. Where are you from?”
“Italy.”
“Yes, but, where is the other side of that door?”
“Uhhhh... Wörgl, I think.”
“Okay, so its not the Australian portal.”
“Portal?!?”
“Oh gosh, I forgot did I. Well, uh...” hesitated the man, red in the face with embarrassment, before pointing to a badge stating ‘Dr. Thomas Stewart’ in some official lettering, below reading ‘Roman Resident Expert, Tullie House, Carlisle’ in smaller lettering. “I work for the Tullie House, and have done so for 12 odd years now, but I’ve noticed something odd going on with that door over there. The previous doctor here said the same.”
“What’s so weird, then?”
“Oh, Mister, you are so unaware. This is time travel!”. Thomas seemed ecstatic about the topic. “Every single person who has walked through that closet door has entered from another timeline! I’ve had people walk in from 1956 at the earliest, to 2073 at the latest – you’ve got an early timeline. And, and, some timelines are completely different! Some don’t even have Antibiotics left, some no transistors, some not even nuclear missiles!”
“But there aren’t any nuclear missiles?”
“Exactly! You’ve come from a world without nukes! Just twelve of 108 are alike! You’ve got Penicillin, transistors, the US, the USSR, the UK?”
“Only penicillin and transistors – the US and UK collapsed so long ago, and the USSR even before that. Why, how rare are those?”
“Penicillin is quite common, and transistors, quite a bit so, but the UK exists in almost every timeline – yours is one of 5 without them – the USA exists in about half, or 52 of them, and there’s a USSR in 10 of them? And the best part is, most of the USSR ones don’t even vary in date – all are from 2026 to 2038 – 12 years only! That’s insane!”
“Well, I’m sure it is, but--"
“You do not understand how amazing this is. It’s 2022 here. August 2022. I’m sitting here, and all of these are invented. There are a few things that were invented in only a few different timelines, very rare. There’s elements found after 118, there’s space tourism in a few, there’s even a full-on Swedish Empire in one timeline, 1700-style! That’s how manic this is!”
“Wouldn’t it be unstable, everyone coming and going?”
“I would imagine so.”
“Then why let this last?”
“Because it won’t. Everything will have an end, a slow, drawn-out end, except that this ‘time travel’ – its more Dimensional Travel than anything else – will cause a bang, eventually. The Big Bang differs in its time period no matter which timeline you go in, and it causes differences in each one. I’ve been told some terrific tales, yet for so long have these existed, so many worlds have gone blank. I swear, you’ve been only one of two to come through in the past couple of years, and the other had a world barely changed. Yours is the only odd one to come through in the last 2 years!”
“Oh. What... else is there?”
“I’ve a notebook. You can return here, if you want. I’ve become an expert in time travel whilst I’ve been here. 12 years of data from myself, 25 years more from my predecessor, all in a singular paper, stored on this very computer right here, all 108 data points too. I’ve studied these all, I’ve looked them all many times over, and it’s taken up so much of my life!”
“Then why does it say ‘Roman Expert’ on your badge then?”
“Hey! I had to make a coverup story! How many people do you think believe ‘Expert On Dimension Travelling’ as a career choice?”
“Then why choose Roman studies?”
“It’s fucking Carlisle. Who isn’t a Roman Expert in this grand city!?! It ain’t hard to know much when you’re surrounded by history, don’t you think?”
“No offense caused, I hope.”
“No no, its fine. You’d better be off from here. Come back soon, if you can, and take someone else too!” Thomas had seemed to come back round to the actual Portal. “Is there any other portals in your world, because a few do have another?”
“I’d have to check with the government, since I, y’know, work for them.”
“Not the first person who has done so. Well, have a great day, and I wish to see you soon. Oh, and...”
“Uh huh, Thomas?”
“If your mind starts blanking, get here quick.”
“Why?”
“I don’t want to lose another world so quickly.”
And so, the two parted.
For now, at least...

2022.06.04 18:40 8th_Hurdle [ROLEPLAY] A Third Way Out

8th January 2070;

2022.02.18 21:54 stupid-cat-with-face The 1846/1847 midterms: the four party system

Newly elected president Dix has take of after actors narrow defeat. The war ended in July 1846. With the fall of Charleston and subsequent chase throughout the south.
Background:
The Economy: president Dix was in charge of the economy in a pivotal period with the end of the civil war. The fists major act was the Buchanan tariff which tied in the senate with Vice President Levi Lincoln Jr breaking the tie in favor of the tariff. Dix however vetoed the act. So the tariff remained the same. Dix also passed the 1845 confiscation act. Which allowed for more sizer of confederate property. Dix also begun a policy of unrestricted naval warfare. Which meant that any south trade ship or port will be destroyed by the union. Dix also passed the 1846 banking act. Which allows for the sized confederate banks to be resorbed and under total federal control. Dix was trying to micromanage the reconstruction effort. Dix shortly after the end of the war passed the “peace tax act” which set all taxis back to pre war levels. Dix plans to micromanage the south economy under complete centralized regulation. Dix wants to harm and dismantle the cotton industry and replace it by industrializing the south.
Foreign affairs: the second Texan Mexican war ended with Texas holding into its territory and the border being settled at the Rio Grande. Dix chose to acknowledge Texas as a independent nation. The nationalism movement is stronger there and any annexation will now be meet with resistance. Dix also joined Canadian in building a road from Nova Scotia to Ottawa. Dix has helped Anglo American relations greatly. But with the end of the civi war dix hopes to gain repression’s from the national that helped or aided the confederacy. However this is mostly limited to Brazil
Stage of the union: unstable is the main word dix has used to describe the union. With the fallout of the civil war and anger over Texan nationalism by expansionist. Many also are growing resentful of the federalist control over the government. Dix has taken major steps in reconstruction. He has proposed and passed a mandatory oath of loyalty for confederate general and leaders. As for punishment dix has been light. He has made a example of execution of three men confederate leader Branch. General Price, and confederate security of war Calhoun. Dix has made the “leadership plan” which would say that all confederate senators representatives and cabinet members must take a oath of loyalty or be deported. Dix has also made it so that governors and all generals cornel and above must swear to be loyal. Dix also passed the 1845 fugitive slave act. Which made it illegal for a freed or run anyway slave to be re-enslaved. It passed both congresses with a comfortable margin. Dix while supporting direct emancipation wanted to wait till after the midterm and believes that the war is to fresh for that. Dix most unpopular war act was the conscription act of 1846: passed in February. It extend conscription and forces all of the war to be there until “hostilities have subsided”. This lead to the Supreme Court taking up the issue of conscription. In Hamilton Vs Dix. Where a former soldier John Hamilton. sued dix over his use of conscription it was taken to the Supreme Court and will be ruled on in December.
Other events:
The Democratic-Republicans part disbanded with it being deemed “unrealistic that the party can survive any longer”. The buck tails also collapsed after a short run.
After almost wining the president then Clay founded the whig party. To oppose Dix and Scott’s “federal tyranny”.
The court: Dix appointed two new members to the court. Replacing Smith and Story. Dix decided on Richard Rush, as well as John Neal. Neal was a odd choice as he was a radical abolitionist but dix believes him a political rival and a appointment to the court would neutralize his criticism and pressure to pass a amendment abolishing slavery.
The candidates:
Federalist: After wining a narrow victory in 1844 the Federalist have begun implementing there version of reconstruction. The Federalist believe strongly in president Dix having rallied being the “successor to Webster” viewing 1844 as justice for Webster death. The Federalist are for high tariffs and have backed the veto of the Buchanan tariff. Having prized him for using federal authority to help the American economy. The Federalist have also backed the confiscation act as a war measure. But they also supported it’s repel as the war ended. The Federalist also supported Dix policy’s on economic reintegration and on a centralized bank and economic development of the south. The Federalist want to have the south and especially southern leaders take a oath of loyalty for the union to insure loyalty and a United nation as well as to make unionist examples of the leaders to insure peace. The Federalist differ with Dix on the abolition of slavey moser favor a immediate amendment but other more moderate to conservative federalist want to wait at least till 1847. But ether way the party wants to pass a amendment abolishing slavey before 1848. The party does want to pass a fugitive slave act which would ban slaves from being re-enslaved. It would stop any slave owner from claiming a escaped slave as there. The Federalist generally favor a harder more punishment and abolishing of slavey focused reconstruction. But dix himself is more moderate.
•backed dix veto of the Buchanan tariff
•supported the confiscation act during the war
•support Dix plan from the southern economy post war
•wants to have confederate leadership take a oath of loyalty
•wants to pass a amendment abolishing slavery
•supported the fugitive slave act
•wants a hard reconstruction
National-Republicans: after losing a upset in 1844. The national-Republicans want to show they are still strong as a party and want to “break the Federalist, house supermajority”. The party wanted to pass the Buchanan tariff but now that it has been vetoed believe it pointless to pass unless the Federalist lose more seats. While the party typically favors high tariffs it has made a exception for the Buchanan tariff as a compromise. The national-Republicans did support the confiscation act as it was Scott’s one idea. But the national-Republicans believe it could have been readjusted for reconstruction to be more about nationalizing the bank for reconstruction. The party wants to have the emphasis of reconstruction be on nationalism and on spurring up unionist sentiments. They believe the oath of loyalty will help. As well as not abolishing slavey and instead letting emancipation last under Scott’s original proclamation. The national-Republicans argue a amendment would only hurt the national spirit. The party does supper a fugitive slave act saying it helps with emancipation. As well as it’s corse till 1855. The national Republicans also push for a greater reintegration of the southern economy and to not change it to much.
•want to pass the Buchanan tariff if the federalist loses seats
•want to readjust the confiscation act
•Want to have a lighter more nationalism focused reconstruction.
•support a oath of loyalty for confederate higher ups
•want to keep the emancipation proclamation untouched
•support a fugitive slave act
•wants economic reintegration
Liberty: after having made gains in 1842 but stagnating having overestimated Scott’s support. The Liberty party is ecstatic about Reconstruction and it’s possible outcomes. The party while economic issue are not big for the midterm or the party itself. The Liberty party is avidly for the Buchanan tariff. It believes it will help open up New England and the south, leading to a quicker post war boom. The party after the war has gained a lot of support for anti bank policy’s. It wants to split it into at least 4 different banks still connected to the treasury department however. The Liberty party believes the bank elitist and corrupt but many in the party also like the stability it brings. The main policy the party was founded on was the abolition of slavey. It wants immediate end to slavey and one in the constitution with representative Stevenson saying “our main goal has been the abolition of slavery. So that the constitution only mention of its abhorrent institution is prohibiting it”. The Liberty party has pressured Dix into passing it but nothing has come of it. Many in the party want to punish the south for succession and to put it under federal control. They want hanging of confederate leaders. The party also wants to secure rights for freedmen post emancipation. They want to give them the right to vote and citizenship. The fundamental belief around reconstruction is emancipation and unity trough revenge.
•for the Buchanan tariff
•wants to decentralize the bank
•wants to pass a amendment abolishing slavery
•wants to punish the south
•wants to insure freedmen’s rights
•believes reconstruction is about abolition and changing the south
Whigs: the newly created whigs following Clays extremely successful independent run. Clay founded the party to resist Scott and Dix’s federal tyranny. The party is for the Buchanan tariff and wants to agree to the compromise especially after Dix veto and believes now it must be passed as in clays own words “the tyranny of the veto must be overridden or congress will be merry symbolic”. The Whigs also want to implement the national bank back into the southern economy and have complete economic re-integration as quickly as possible. The whigs believes a strong economy will help heal the wounds of the war quicker. The whigs also wants to wait till the original date of emancipation in 1855. As we as have a amendment afterwards so that it will simple be officially ended after 1855. The whigs promote reconciliation as being for reconciliation and healing the sectional divide. The whigs believe the best way for reconstruction to be done is to be soft but not to soft on the south. The whigs favor the 2 percent proposal. Which means 2 percent of confederate must take a oath of loyalty mostly being commanders and politicians. This would insure the leaderships loyalty. The whigs also supports the fugitive slave act and believes it will help with advancing emancipation. But the whigs mostly want colonization and shipping backs to Africa. The whigs want a quick reconstruction to advance the nation further and restore national unity.
•for the Buchanan tariff
•for bank centralization but also balances.
•moderate on slavey wants to wait till Scott’s proclamation is over.
•for reconciliation
•for a 2 percent oath of loyalty
•for a fugitive slave act
•promote colonization for freed slaves
•believes the south needs to be re admitted quickly.
