2024.05.13 22:28 Lord_Long_Rod Hunting Sasquatch for Communists, Featuring Ms. Anna Conda

During the course of my career as an alpha Sasquatch hunting, Dogman destroying, pussy crushing, luxury watch loving dude, I have run into this particular woman a few times. She is one part uber sensuality, and the other part deadly. Yes, I am speaking about the lovely, Anna Conda. I bring her up because I had another run-in with her last year.

Anna and I first joined forces, so to speak, when she acted as a go-between in my business deal with the Chinese to sell them bigfoot parts. See, I would hunt and kill the critters, cut them up, deliver the parts to Anna, who in turn gave me a suitcase containing unmarked American hundred-dollar bills, then she would transport the bigfoot parts to the Chinese. I was never really sure of what the sneaky-ass Chinese were doing with the body parts. All I knew for sure is that they are extracting certain materials from them, then synthesizing them with some other shit, creating some sort of drug. Whether it then becomes a bio-weapon or a dick stimulant, I do not know. Neither do I care. As long as they kept the hundies coming, I was good.

Now, while Anna is of Russian descent, she is a freelancer. She will work for any sick, skeevy motherfucker out there. She does not care. She has no conscience, at least not in the traditional sense as we understand it in western civilization. Today she is working for the Chinese, and tomorrow she may be working for Hamas. She is a slippery motherfucker.

So here is how it went down. At 11:32 p.m. on a Friday in September of last year I get a call on my cell phone. When the call came in I was balls deep into this hot little lass I picked up at the bus station a little earlier in the evening from an old swarthy chap named “Colorado Joe”. He wanted to sell me the girl. I was assured she was over 20 years old. I told him I needed to take her out for a test ride, which he agreed to.

So, there I was, balls deep in “Bing Bang Yun”, and my phone rings. Of course, I silence all incoming calls not in my contacts list. Thus, I knew that I must know the caller. In mid stroke I reached over to the nightstand to retrieve my cell and looked at it. It was a call from “Sergio”. I thought, “Oh shit…. I am going to have to cut the Oriental bang circus short.” When Sergio calls, I have to respond…immediately. He has the best blow on the east coast!!

“Hey, Serge! What’s up?”, I asked. All he said was, “Hooters. 2:00 a.m.”, then hung up. This was obviously the rendezvous for the transaction. Now, understand that Serge was not talking about the chicken wing restaurant. Hooters was code, in case the feds were listening in on the line. “Hooters” meant the titty bar out on Highway 69 called “The Plump Rump”. We had a communications code we used.

It was a long haul to the titty bar, so I needed to get moving. I had no time to return the girl to Colorado Joe, so I took her with me. I had her blow me on the way to the meeting with Sergio, telling her that her performance would make the difference on whether I save her from Joe or not. Of course, after she was done I tossed her out of my speeding truck and down, over the bridge, and into the Wendigo River below. I did not need any complications in my life right now.

I arrived at The Plump Rump at 2:00 a.m. on the dot. I saw the manager, Lou Skunt, sitting at the bar when I walked inside. I nodded. He walked over and said to me, “Use my office for the meeting The parties are already in there waiting for you.” I nodded and then headed to Lou’s office. Then it hit me: Lou said the “PARTIES” are already here. That is, parties, meaning more than one person. It was not just Sergio. It was 2 or more people! Lou was probably in for a cut of whatever was about to go down.

Something was bad fucked up!! I know for a fact that Sergio never brings anyone with him on a deal, at least not with me. He is too distrustful of people to do that, and too fucking mean to need protection. Something was wrong. I was just as likely to get whacked when I enter Lou’s office as anything else. I needed a moment to think things through.

I took a spot in front of one of the performance poles to watch a young, swarthy Mexican lass perform. My mind quickly strayed from the problem at hand to this brown chick’s ass and tits. She was not a great looking chick, but her body was smoking!! I quickly became aroused. I thought to myself, “Goddamn Asian bitches!! They are just like Chinese food – after 2 hours you are ready for some more!!”

When the little Mexican chick went on break I motioned her over to my table. “Hola Senior!!”, she said. I pulled out a clear plastic baggie of blow and dropped it on the table. Her eyes grew wide and slobber starting falling from her mouth. Blow is like catnip for strippers. Thus, she fell under my spell immediately.

The next thing I know, this brown girl was on my lap, dry humping me like a feral bitch dog in heat. I had to bang her. I NEEDED to see my wang penetrating her. Just then, someone taps my shoulder hard. I look up to see Lou standing over me. He bent down and said, “Did you forget about my office, asshole?!?!?!” I replied, “Damn, Lou!! You read my mind!!!” I arose, with the little Mexican bolted onto my mid-section, and hastily retreated to Lou’s office. I figured Lou would prefer me to stain this chick in private rather than out in the open.

The door to the office opened easily. The lights were on inside. In a lustful haze, I set the little Mexican chick on her back across Lou’s desk and started pumping the shit out of her, completely unaware of the others in the room with us. In a moment I heard someone call my name. I twist my neck around to see Sergio sitting on Lou’s jizz crusted couch. I think to myself, “Oh shit! I forgot about that shit!”

I figured I would just move forward with the deal as it was proposed to me. “Hey Serge! What ya got for me, dude?”, I asked. He replied, “I have a very special deal for you. I need, uh … yeah, ……Hey, Rod, you want to stop for a moment so we can talk?” I picked up the little tamale and laid her down onto Sergio’s lap as I continued to plow her. She stayed on my cock the whole time. I told Sergio, “No, man. I’m good! Lay it on me!” Slowly, Sergio lowered his face into his palm.

Then it happened. The voice cam from behind me, in the dark corner of Lou’s office. It was velvety yet hard as steel. “Rod. Went need to talk”, it said. Even though I did not stop pumping the little brown chick, a chill went down my spine when I heard those words. It was the thick timbre of the voice, I think, that alerted me.

I turned to look across the room. There, sitting in a red leather captains chair against the wall was the source of the sultry voice: Anna Conda.

I picked up the little taco yet again and turned her around so I could face Anna as I continued pumping her. At this point the Mexican girl was merely a masturbation toy I was using. I increased my pump so I could dump my load and get this over with. Then BAMM!!!, it was over. I removed the lass from my huge rod, after which her body crumpled to the floor. I did not know if she was dead or injured, or what had happened to her. But I did not care either, so I did not dwell on it.

I tried to compose myself the best I could, then walked over to stand before Anna so I could get to the bottom of all this business. “Well, well, well. Anna Conda. We meet again. Tell me, what brings you here, to my little neck of the woods?”

Anna replied, “Rod, put your dick away.” I looked down and, indeed, I had forgotten to stow my cock. Out of pure curtesy, I packed it away. Then I returned my attention to Anna. “Alright, Anna, what’s going on here?”

Anna launched into a startling tale about what brought her to me. As she spoke I became lost in her wanton beauty. She got up from her chair and walked about the room as she relayed her story, presumably to make it more dramatic and demonstrative. I got a full-on view of her body, and it was fantastic!!

She stands 5’10’’ and weighs 105 lbs. She is lithe. She was showing it off too, wearing a black, silk dress that landed just about her ankles. The top was low-cut, betraying just a bit of cleavage from her C-cup wineglass titties. She was not wearing a bra. Anna never wears a bra. Her nips were perfectly outlined through the silk. In fact, I think her nips were hard. It was probably something she did on purpose in an attempt to influence me. It was working.

Anna’s ass was perfect. It was not at all fat, but round enough not to be skinny. It was a fit figure skater’s ass. As she walked, I could see a tiny bit of jiggle emanating from her ass flesh, and then reverberated in the silky black dress she wore. My cock began growing hard again.

Her face was beautiful. Think Scarlett Johanson and Phoebe Cates rolled into one. But any sweetness this may evoke is quickly dispelled by Anna’s throaty voice with its thick Russian accent. I have known Anna for 20 years. Yet, she still does not look a day over 25. Jesus Christ!!! If ever there was a chick to die for ….. If I was one to delve into the belief of the paranormal, then I may conclude that Anna made a deal with the devil. But, I am not such a person.
And literally, Anna Conda is a chick to die for. She is deadly as fuck. She will kill you in a split second without a thought just because she does not like the shirt you are wearing. She can do it too. She is always armed and she knows how to use her weapons. Moreover, she is a total psychopath. This makes her doubly dangerous.

Anna and I have always gotten along for the most part. Like Anna, the dollar is my primary motivating factor. Such a mindset allows for understanding and predictability among people, which are elements that are sorely missing in many business dealings today that go on in the color of darkness.

Suddenly, Anna snapped me out of my thoughts. “Here’s your gun, Rod. Now let’s get started”, said Anna. She and Sergio were halfway through the door exiting Lou’s office when I said, “Hey, wait a damned minute!!! What are you talking about?!?”

They both stopped, and Anna walked back in and looked me in the eyes, saying “The plan, Rod. Let’s get on with the plan.” A little embarrassed, I sheepishly asked, “What plan?” Anna folded her arms and looked cross at me. After a moment to allow me to simmer in my shame, she asked, “You were not paying attention, were you, Rod?” I shook my head and looked down.

I heard a hammer cock. I jerked my head back up to find myself staring down the barrel of a pistol pointed at my head that Anna was holding. I protested, “Look, it is not my fucking fault!! Put that fucking gun down!!!” I continued, “You were distracting me with …. Well.. you know, how you are dressed, and that hot, sultry voice…. You know?”

“So, instead of paying attention to the plan, you chose to eye-rape me. Is that what I am to understand your position is, Rod?”, she asked. Knowing that my life was on the line, I said, “Anna, look, you know I am horny to a fault. Then you come in here, swinging them tits around, wearing that silk dress showing off the crack of your ass…. WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU EXPECT TO HAPPENED?”

Anna lowered her gun. She knew that my explanation of being a total cocksman was truth. “Let’s go”, Anna curtly said. I obeyed.

Anna explained the plan to me again on the drive from The Plump Rump. She made me wear a blindfold so that I would not get horny during her explanation. Here is how it went:

Anna Conda was now working for the Russians. It seems that Putin caught wind of the Sasquatch project that the Chinese were working on. He also knew that the American government have been fucking with sasquatch for decades. Thus, he was very concerned about the existence of a bigfoot gap. He ordered the acquisition of a Sasquatch specimen immediately.

Moreover, said specimen must be prime. It needed to be the biggest, baddest sasquatch of them all – a true alpha – so as to speed things along. Putin did not want some weird shit-creature, is-it-a-sasquatch-or-is-it-a-dogman, kind of monstrosity. He wanted purebred, badass sasquatchery, and preferably from the American Pacific northwest.

Anna got in on it because she sold the intel to Putin about China’s Sasquatch operation. She then told Putin she could produce sasquatch corpses for him. She told him she had a contact (i.e., me). Thus, with Putin’s blessing and promises of riches to come, Anna set out to America to find me.

Now, here is where things got a bit squirrely. See, I agreed to procure some more dead sasquatch. I have no problem with killing sasquatch because, in my opinion, they are an abomination on this Earth. I kind of feel like I am doing God’s work by wiping out as many of them as I can. And given all the not-so-Godly stuff I have done, I feel like killing Sasquatch kind of offsets that to some degree.

But Anna, she was stuck on Putin’s instruction that she must supply him with apex Sasquatch. So she did not want to take my advice of heading to the Pacific Northwest or Alaska. Instead, Anna claimed to have pinpointed the whereabouts of a particularly gruesome sasquatch beast that she KNEW would win her a fortune from Putin if she brought it to him.

“So, where is this beast?”, I asked. Anna replied “Martha’s Vineyard”. I paused. Then I asked her to repeat herself. It turns out that I was not mistaken about what Anna had said. I continued, “Uh, Anna, there are no sasquatch on Martha’s Vineyard, just a lot of wealth New Englander schmucks.”

Anna looked at me and told me I was wrong. Then she decided to attempt to taunt me. “Oh, Rod, mighty slayer of Bigfoot! Yet, you fail to take notice of where the biggest, most foul and rotten beast of them all makes its home. Jesus, Rod!! What kind of bigfoot hunter are you, anyway?” Anna then spit at my feet and wondered aloud whether she even needs me for this job.

I decided that I needed to straighten out the hierarchy here in order for this here deal to move forward. I said, “Well, Anna, feel free to truck on over to Old Whitey Beach and battle that beast. But, if there is a big old mangy sasquatch lurking around over there, then it is probably a fucking Nazi-Squatch. You know, those fuckers out there hate the Jews.”

The work “Nazi” visibly shook Anna. Her great grandfather died defending Leningrad. Her entire family there died of either starvation or cannibalism during Hitler’s siege during Operation Barbarossa. Anna despised Nazis. But she feared them too. After landing that punch, I decided to push my luck.

“Now, I am still willing to help you catch this here Nazi-Squatch, but you have to do something for me”, I said. Now Anna’s eyes were on me, and they were narrowing. I continued, “I want you to get bare assed naked and pleasure yourself while I stand over you and jack it.” Anna stared at me silently for a long moment. Then she replied.

“After the job is done, and you can get none of your … fluids… on me”, she said. I shook my head and countered, “Now, and I will ‘try’ to not get my spunk on you.”

However, Anna then turned the tables on me. In fact, she picked up the table and bashed my head in with it. She looked me in my eyes, then matter-of-factly said, “You get the beast, and your prize shall be a night with me, anything goes, darling.” Well, since this caused all of the blood to immediately drain from my brain, I had a lapse in judgment. “DEAL!!”, I said. Then we shook on it.

“OK, tell me more about this supposed monster sasquatch on Martha’s Vineyard”, I said. I still was not ready to believe there was a monster out there. “I show you photo”, said Anna. She took out her phone, scrolled to find the photo, then handed the phone to me. “There. Sasquatch”, she said.

I stared at the photo and remained silent. After a long moment, I turned the phone so that Anna could see the photo and asked, “Uh, Anna, is THIS what you intended to show me?” She replied. “Yes! There…Sasquatch! The biggest, grossest monster around.”

Now, I could not argue with Anna that the image on her phone is a big, gross monster. Hell, it could actually be a sasquatch, and THE UBER sasquatch. It is most certainly the grossest thing on Martha’s Vinyard. But I somehow do not think this is what Putin is expecting.

I turned to Anna and said, “Anna, this is a photo of Michelle Obama. I know it looks vile, and has a huge, hulking body with large appendages where a woman should not have them. But, sweatheart, that ain’t no sasquatch. That’s a big, hairy Chicago street negro.”

Anna did not believe me at first. She was hard in her conviction that Obama was a sasquatch. “I have seen the Sasquatch beast you deliver to me for China. This … Michelle Obama …. It is big, and hairy, and ugly like the sasquatch beast, but worse.”

When the truth finally set it, I could see that it had kind of broken down poor Anna, if only just a bit. I put my arm around Anna and told her, “Look, Michelle O fooled you. Hell, she and her Hamas Hubby fooled millions of Americans, twice! At least you saw Michelle for what she is, to wit: a big, gross sasquatch, and NOT some kind a retarded leftist messiah.”

After that, things took a rather dark turn. “What if we still take her to Putin? We can make deal; sell her to Putin!!” At this point I held up my hands and said, “I’m out”, then turned and walked away. Anna followed, trying to get me to stay. At this point, I could tell that Anna was coming undone a little.

See, she had to produce for Putin. There is no telling what kind of secret deal she actually had with him. She had to deliver a big old mangy Obama …. Er, uh, I mean … Sasquatch, to Putin.

“Ok, Rod, we do your plan. We go out west to kill bigfoot. Huge, monster bigfoot. she said. I turned and looked Anna in her eyes and said the following: First, we bang for 48 hours straight, right now, so I can get my fill of you. Second, you pay me $10,000.00 cash upfront. Third, upon delivery of the dead bigfoot, you pay me $1 million immediately.”

Anna agreed to everything, but noted that at the present time it was her “time of the month”. I grimaced, as I will absolutely not go there (and she knows that). “Fine, next week we bang”, I said. She pointed out that I would be in the woods next week hunting sasquatch. “Fine, once I come out of the woods, then we bang – 48 hours straight”, I said. “Of course, darling!”, she agreed.

Well, it took several days to set up the hunt, but it finally happened. I was in Washington state at high elevation based on intel I has acquired that indicated that there was a monstrous 15’ tall sasquatch on the mountain range that had been murdering and eating hunters and hikers. After 3 months in these mountains without a trace of the creature I began to lose hope, thinking that I probably got some bad intel, or bad coordinates.

I got my satellite phone out to call for an extraction. Winter was setting in fast, and if I did not get off this mountain soon, then I would freeze and/or starve to death. Unfortunately, my contact did not answer. I tried for 2 days. No answer. I had been fucked. I wondered what had happened back in civilization that caused me to be abandoned like this. I resolved that I would get off that mountain and get to the bottom of this shit. There would be hell to pay for this betrayal!!’

I was able to get in touch with contacts from back home. I got old Billy Ray from Ellijay and Rattler on the phone and got them to come out here to Washington State to extract me. Rattler use to fly helicopters in the Army. He has an old Huey sitting in his front yard, to the chagrin of his HOA. He fired that sucker up, and him and old Billy Ray flew out here to my coordinates and extracted me.

After landing at a convenience store to buy some beer for the flight home, we headed east. Through the skies a way, Billy Ray said, “Well, Rod, I guess you is bout ready to git back home to Georgia, eh?” In fact, I was ready to go home. But I had to take care of some business first. I told them both to take me to New York City. They were both perplexed. All I said to them was “I have an old friend there I have to see before I can go home.”

I have intel on where Anna Conda stays when she is in the United States. She stays at certain hotels depending on what month she is here, and whether her check-in date is an odd or even number. This is for undercover work. I came across the code for her stays while doing the sasquatch work for China. She an I were caught in a snowstorm one night in Buffalo, NY, and had to share a room at the Holiday Inn near the airport. We had like 10 big Igloo ice chests with iced down sasquatch body parts with us in the room.

Anna was like, “No hanky panky, Rod. I am tired and I want to go to bed. Tomorrow we finish business.”

Frankly, I did not blame her for withholding her magnificent muff from me. I was tired as hell. But, I could not settle for nothing. So, when Anna was in the bathroom taking a shower, I started going through her suit case. I wanted to find some of her panties to jack off into. Instead, I found a little black notebook. Inside it contained her lodging codes, and some other interesting things. I photographed the contents with my phone and then put it back.

When Anna got out of the shower she was already dressed in her night clothes. She saw me lying on my back, nude on the bed, and jacking it. “Rod!! GROSS!!!! Go to the restroom to do that shit!!!”, she commanded. I just did it to get a rise out of her. LOL!!

So, if Anna is still inside the U.S., then using the codes I stole from her I can locate precisely where she will be that night. I studied it for a few moments then had my answer. Tonight she would be staying at the Dogman Inn on Hwy 95 South, Room 355. I told Rattler to get me there stat!

We had to stop several times for fuel and beer. Those Hueys go just a bit over a hundred MPH, you know. But eventually, we got there. I gave the boys some money and told them to go to the Waffle House for some coffee to sober up. Then they would fly me home.

I should mention that I also had Rattler’s fully auto Russian AK-74 with spare mags. During the long flight with 2 drunks from Washington State to New York City, I had worked myself up into a towering rage over how Anna fucked me on this Putin deal. She had clearly thrown me aside. But for what, exactly? I figured I would storm the hotel room, get some answers, then shower the room with gun fire.

I busted through the door of Room 355 at exactly 3:35 a.m. There she was. My entry roused her from slumber. I was pointing my rifle at her, center mass. She was shocked at the appearance of a gunman in her room at this time of night. However, she was not as shocked as one would think (this was not the first time something like this has happened to her).

I raised my face from the receiver just enough so she could see it was me. “Rod!!!”, she exclaimed. “What happened to you?!?!? I thought you had died up in those mountains when we never hear from you!” I replied, “Shove it up that cute little ass of yours, Anna. You fucked me. And not in the good way. What the fuck was all that shit about needing a sasquatch for Putin?!?”

Anna played dumb. But it struck me that I had been deliberately put out of the loop for 3 months. Why? Who wanted me away for that long, and why? What went on in my absence?!? I was just dying to know!!! I set my rifle down and pulled out my fixed blade knife, ready to get down to some real nasty work on Anna so I could get some truth. The pure evil of what I was about to do to her caused a wide death grin to grow on my face. Anna saw it. She knew what it meant. She swallowed hard and her eyes betrayed the shear terror she felt inside. I was engorged with blood lust. She knew she had fucked up one time too many this time!!

Suddenly came the sound of the toilet in the bathroom flushing. I was momentarily shocked. I did not expect anyone else to be there with Anna. Anna saw it in my face. I glanced at her and saw that the terror in her face was replaced with pleasure, a slight smile creeping over her face.

I was going to have to face off against this person in the bathroom, who would be out in a split moment. When I do that, I will have to turn 180 degrees from Anna, thereby making me vulnerable to her. I had only once choice: Shoot Anna first.

Just as this came to me, but just before I could act on it, the bathroom door opened. I had to deal with that person before Anna now. I spun around to see that it was a completely nude, and fat, white man. He was a real oafish blob. He looked surprised to see me. He also looked sort of familiar.

I next heard the crack of something hitting my skull hard. I remember the immediate hateful pain that shot through my body and the sound of blood rushing through my ears. I remember the dizziness, then falling to the floor. Clearly, as I fixed on the man from the bathroom, Anna had cracked me over the head with a blunt object.

I came to the next morning, Billy Ray and Rattler had manage to track me down based upon coordinates I left in the chopper that said “IN CASE OF EMERGENCY”. Billy Ray filled up the hotel room ice bucket with cold water and doused my head with it to bring me conscious. I was disoriented at first. But after a bit, what happened in this room the night before came back to me.

Honestly, I am surprised that Anna did not just kill me. I presume that she thinks she can leverage her drop-dead hotness to get me to do more shit for her in the future. She is absolutely right about that too. Rattler then said, “Hey, Rod, that snake bitch left a letter fer ya.”

He handed me the letter. This is what it said:
____________________________________________

“Dear Rod:

Sorry about the boo boo on your head. Hope it heals soon. Also sorry about leaving you in the mountains. I was not running a scam on you Rod. Rather, an opportunity arose for me to acquire a sasquatch body from another person. You may know him since you are a sasquatch hunter. His name is Matt Moneymaker. Anyway, until next time…..

Yours truly,
Anna Conda”
_____________________________________________
I could not fucking believe it. That was fatfuck Moneymaker in the hotel room earlier. Anna fucked Matt Fatfuck Moneymaker for a Sasquatch! That fat son of bitch!!

Billy Ray asked, “You ready to go Rod?” I stood up and said, “Yeah, let’s go.” Then Rattler said, “Hey, ya wanna stop and git some beer fer the ride home?” I replied “Hell yeah.”

I felt like I wanted to die. Thank God for beer and buddies. I don’t blame Anna. She is a fucking snake, and I knew that before this started. Also, I cannot really blame fatfuck Moneymaker for wanting to get some of that hot poon pie Anna serves up. I guess I have to blame fate for fucking me over this time. I even started thinking that next time I will just avoid Anna. But I know I won’t, thus making me subject to this sort of shit again. I had Rattler set us down in Charlottesville so I could buy some hard liquor.

2024.05.13 22:22 SuperIntHuman Top 5 Types of Digital Products Commonly Associated with Illegal Activities

1. Online Courses

Scenario: Jane, an aspiring graphic designer, stumbles upon an online course promising exclusive industry secrets and certifications. The course is marketed as a limited-time offer, with testimonials claiming life-changing results. Jane, eager to advance her skills, purchases the course. However, she soon realizes that the course content is outdated, poorly structured, and lacks any real value. The seller, who claimed to have exclusive rights to the content, turns out to be a fraudster who copied material from free sources and repackaged it as a premium product.
Impact: Jane feels cheated and loses her money. The fraudulent seller continues to deceive others, creating a cycle of misinformation and financial loss for unsuspecting learners.

2. Ebooks

Scenario: Mark is looking for ebooks on digital marketing strategies to enhance his knowledge. He finds a bundle deal offering ten ebooks at a significantly reduced price. The seller markets them as premium content written by top industry experts. Mark buys the bundle but soon discovers that the ebooks are poorly written, and upon further investigation, he finds that they were stolen from legitimate authors and repackaged without permission.
Impact: Mark is disappointed with the low-quality content and realizes he has indirectly supported intellectual property theft. The original authors lose potential revenue, and their hard work is exploited without credit or compensation.

3. Private Label Rights (PLR)

Scenario: Sarah wants to start an online business selling health and wellness guides. She purchases a PLR package that allows her to rebrand and sell the content as her own. Excited, she launches her website and begins selling the guides. However, customers soon complain about the generic content and lack of originality. Sarah learns that the same PLR content is being sold by hundreds of other websites, making her product indistinguishable and low-value.
Impact: Sarah's business suffers from a lack of trust and credibility. Customers feel deceived by the recycled content, and Sarah faces the challenge of rebuilding her brand with unique and original material.

4. Master Resale Rights (MRR)

Scenario: Tom joins an online community that shares MRR products, allowing members to resell digital products without making any changes. He starts selling a popular ebook that he acquired through the group. Initially, sales are good, but soon, Tom notices a decline in demand. Customers begin leaving negative reviews, pointing out that the ebook is available on numerous other websites, often for a lower price or even for free.
Impact: Tom's reputation as a seller takes a hit due to the oversaturation of the same product in the market. He realizes that relying on MRR products limits his ability to offer unique and valuable content, affecting his long-term business prospects.

5. Pirated Software

Scenario: Lisa, a freelance web developer, purchases a digital bundle that includes several software tools at an unbelievably low price. The seller assures her that the software is legitimate and provides license keys. After installing the tools, Lisa receives a warning from one of the software companies, stating that her license is invalid and that she is using pirated software. She also notices several bugs and issues, compromising her work quality.
Impact: Lisa faces legal risks and potential fines for using pirated software. Her work is disrupted due to the unreliable tools, affecting her professional reputation and client satisfaction. She must invest in legitimate software, leading to unplanned expenses and financial strain.
These scenarios highlight the various ways in which digital products can be manipulated and sold illegally, causing harm to both buyers and legitimate creators. By being aware of these common fraudulent practices, consumers can make more informed decisions and protect themselves from scams.

2024.05.13 22:19 jungkooksbabymom Am I entitled to charge my sister rent?

My (26) dad passed away almost two years ago, my parents were divorced and along with pensions, life insurances and general bank accounts our Dad left me and my older sister (29) our family home. My sister moved her boyfriend in a few weeks after my dad passed, and around 5 months later I decided to buy a puppy. My sister has “banned” the dog from living in the house, which has meant that I’ve had to move in with my mom. My sister constantly says “no one is saying you can’t live here but the dog can’t” - I don’t get on with my mom the greatest. Her house is very small, I work with her, and we argue a lot, it’s a case of we’re too similar and we’re with each other 24/7. I’m very unhappy and want my own space. I’ve recently started enquiring about renting a property, I’ve never lived alone before so would rather rent for a year or so to make sure I’m “ready” before the huge leap of purchasing a property. My issue is with my dads home there is no mortgage, so my sister is living there for free apart from utility bills (which up until winter I was paying a third of, despite not living there. I still pay a third of the council tax). My sister and her boyfriend earn a considerably higher amount than me, and if I was to rent a house I’d be looking at around 900pm. After utilities I’d be left with less than 100 to live off.
To make a long story short, am I entitled to “charge” my sister “rent” for living in what is legally half of my property as well where I’m realistically not “allowed” to live in, without either rehoming or leaving my dog. I wouldn’t charge her half of the market price (my house would rent for around 1500 going off similar in the area) so I wouldn’t charge her £750, but if legally I can I’d probably ask for just £300-£400, even if it meant they took it off my “share”. Is this legal and do I have a leg to stand on. I know my sister will be very very angry if I ask her to pay me for my share. I’ve heard from quite a few people I am eligible to but wanted to see if anyone here with legal knowledge can confirm this before I do ask her this.
(Edit for more info: This is in England.)

2024.05.13 21:41 Beastie-Stew-1976 Mom with Dementia Thinks Dad Tried to Kill Her

First time posting anything in Reddit. Seemed like as good a time as any as I'm really struggling with how to deal with a devastating situation with my mom! This is a long one but I need to get it out there. I'm heartbroken and out of options, as is my whole family.
In the middle of the night after Easter Sunday, I got a call at 3am in the morning from mom telling me that my dad "finally did it - he tried to kill me." She was in the hospital and physically speaking, unharmed. She told me my dad was arrested and in the psych ward and that she needed to go as the doctors were checking up on her. Thankfully by the time I got off the phone, my dad had responded to a text I'd sent him saying what in the world is going on, saying that he had to call 911 on her; he was at home and safe by that point.
He'd woken up at 2am their time and had noticed she had left the house in her car. After a quick review of her iPhone location, he noticed she was at a house they had rented a number of years earlier. He drove over and could see her sitting on the couch, apparently alone. He tried tapping on the window thinking perhaps she was confused and didn't know where she was and had wandered in. She saw him but then looked away and moved to another room. Finally, he realized he needed to knock on the door. He knew the couple that lived there casually and explained she'd been struggling recently. The husband told him he didn't know what to think at first when she said he had tried to kill her, but quickly realized something wasn't right. He had already called 911. My dad also called 911 because she wouldn't leave with him and he didn't know what else to do.
When the police arrived, they quickly realized something was very wrong with my mom and that my dad didn't pose any threat to her (she admitted right away that he was sleeping when she left). She was moved to the hospital and my dad went home. At the hospital, they found her to be extremely manic - paranoid, delusional, hyperverbal. They (meaning multiple psychiatrists after examination and discussion with me and my dad) put her on an involuntary 72 hold under the state's emergency hold act for someone who was a danger to themselves or others (she was deemed to be a danger to herself because she had no insight into her situation and couldn't take care of herself).
After the 72 hours, they decided they needed to continue to hold her as she was still paranoid and delusional, as well as exhibiting signs of dementia. Once we were finally able to talk to a couple doctors live and get some very preliminary indications that she was suffering from progressive dementia and some form of delirium/psychosis, I was able to join my dad to try and figure out next steps. It became clear over the course of the next 10-11 days, that we were going to have to move her into memory care, so that's what we did. Signed a contract with as nice a place as we could find, hired a concierge psychiatrist billed as one of the best in the state, hired an elder care attorney and also an advocate to help my dad navigate the situation.
We received word (after following up day after day with very little communication) that she would be released from the psychiatric ward mid-week and arranged for her to be taken directly to the memory card facility based on doctor's advice. Despite a hiccup where she talked the driver into bringing her home first, where I luckily just happened to be eating lunch, we got her checked into the facility (I told her it was either back to the psych ward or to the facility and she happy complied). Problem was - she didn't realize it was memory care and it only took about four hours before the phone calls started about how awful the place was, how she had to get out, the place wasn't safe, I was a bad son, my dad was evil, etc. etc.
As an aside, up to this point, we thought we had done just about everything by the book. Ironically, it was my mom who insisted some number of years ago that she and my dad should get long term care insurance in addition to executing both health care representative POAs and financial POAs. After talking with the elder law attorney, we felt we had 99% of what was needed to at least take some of the strain out of the situation. He did say that if the proverbial shit hit the fan, the POAs might not be enough and that we'd need full legal guardianship, but he felt pretty good that we could do what the doctors were advising us to do and get her into a structured facility, at least for the time and try to get her stable. If we could get her 30 days of very structured care, the doctor told us that there's always a chance she could respond well. ("Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst" in his words.)
And that's where things fell apart. Even though the psychiatrist/MD realized very quickly that she was suffering from some form of moderate to severe dementia, my mom is very high functioning and began plotting almost immediately to get out of the facility despite our insistence that she needed the 24/7 care at least for the time being. She was calling everyone she knew - friends, other family, other doctors etc., insisting that she was fine; it was my dad who needed help, and that she needed out right away.
The above had become a familiar refrain over the last 12-18 months. It started innocently enough when my mom had made a comment that she was a little afraid of my dad because he'd gotten angry one evening. I took it very seriously and asked her to take me through what had happened. Apparently they'd gotten into a minor argument at one point over something trivial. My mom kept needling him on the issue and he eventually pounded his fist on the table (completely out of character for him) and it had rattled her. I explained to my mom that I took this seriously and I'd talk with him to make sure everything was ok. I did confront him and he was honest - said he lost his temper but that mom was just on him 24/7 about things that were either minor or simply not true. She claimed he played golf every day when in reality he played maybe 2-3 times a month (he's retired so I'm not sure what would be wrong with playing everyday but I guess that's besides the point). She would get pissed at him for being gone for too long but she'd also get pissed for him not going out and finding things today. There was a lot of this.
From that point, things got worse - she had a surgery in September of last year where she underwent general anesthesia and that really seemed to light a fire under the symptoms. She began to withdraw even further from social activities. She wasn't sleeping much at night; hardly eating. The accusations against my dad got bigger and bolder (he had a girlfriend that was 40 years younger than him; he'd bought a boat among them). None of these things were true. My brother went to stay with my folks for a few months - he wanted to spend time with them in any event, but we also thought it would be good for him to see the dynamic up close. Maybe our dad was doing some things he shouldn't? Maybe he needed to adjust his behavior? Well, after three months, my brother could tell something was seriously wrong with my mom. She was not herself and things were getting worse.
Three days before the Easter Sunday where it all went south, my mom was supposed to come up to where my wife and I live and go into assisted living for 30-60 days. She wanted to do it and we were excited because we thought it would give us a chance to have some objective views from the staff on what might be going on. We thought dementia was a real possibility because her own primary care doctor had suggested for at least 12 months that she get tested but she'd canceled no less than three appointments (the last two literally as they were getting in the car). For reasons that still aren't entirely clear, she canceled at the last minute. Even though my wife and I had made the arrangements and had everything essentially ready to go, my mom insisted on trying to plan with the facility as well and some wires got crossed on trivial things. It seems those things caused her to be suspicious and start to believe we were "trying to put her away." Again though, this was her idea.
It was the period between the cancellation and Easter Sunday that things just spiraled. My wife and I, among others, were getting texts and phone calls in the middle of the night, all night during those three to four days. They were increasingly paranoid and unhinged, linking my dad to the husband of a family friend who'd committed suicide. Saying he was a narcissist, just like my dad. Many things that simply were not at all in line with the character of my dad (and not just according to me but everyone who ever knew him and knew him well). When she began to bring up the fact that she thought the friend's husband had killed her, I knew things were bad. I suggested my dad get out of the house and give her some space. I was worried about both of them. She's tiny but you never know. I also didn't want my dad arrested or put into a situation where the stress can be overwhelming - he's got a bard heart. So he did leave the day before Easter, even though he totally discounted my concern.
The reason he came back on Easter Sunday was because she asked him to. She wanted to celebrate and see the dog. By all accounts, they had a nice evening and even watched a movie together before he went to bed. And then she decided to get in her car, drive 80 miles to a house they used to live in and tell the shocked couple that my dad was trying to kill her!
So, she's in the memory care facility after her release from the psychiatric hold and as excruciatingly difficult as it was to put here there, we felt it was necessary, at least until the paranoia subsided. I stayed for three days and visited her each day. She'd fluctuate between telling me I was an awful son, rehashing all the "documentation" she had on how horrible the doctors and my dad are, and then saying how she didn't want to ruin the family and we could all work it out. My brother stayed for another few days after I left and then had to get back home. He received similar treatment. We mistakenly thought we had things under control until she decided to write a very thoughtfully crafted letter stating explicitly that she requested release from the facility, nothing that she was "of sound mind and body."
The doctor, the facility and our attorney explained that they could no longer keep her there. We understood the limits of the POA, but this was hard to fathom. We had mounds of doctor's evidence from the psychiatric ward and the new doctor pointing to not only advanced dementia, but also stating that she was unable to care for herself and needed round the clock supervision from someone other than my dad. It wasn't enough. We needed a new plan. The doctor was clear that my dad couldn't stay with her and take care of her, so I looked into 24/7 hour nursing. I had no idea how much it cost and when I realized that $28k or so a month would be needed, we realized there no way we could cover this for any significant period of time, even with a portion offset by long term care.
We were lucky enough to have a family member that was a former nurse who was willing to come down for a time to stay with my mom. The good news was by this point, my mom did hear one thing from her doctor - that she needed "24/7 care," so we explained that we'd get her home on two conditions - (1) we had to wait till the family friend could get into town; and (2) she needed to do the doctor recommended cognitive evaluation with a neuropsychologist. She agreed to both.
The day after she did her neuro exam, she went home with our family member and has been home now for over a week. My dad has been couch surfing, trying to keep it together. It took a week but we received the neuro results and they confirmed what we thought we already knew but were nonetheless still devastating - severe vascular dementia. This, combined with an MRI they had done in the psychiatric ward, were enough for the doctors to recommend we pursue guardianship because she doesn't have capacity and can't make any of her own decisions, which we're doing now on an expedited basis. In the meantime, my mom has been up and down at home, and my dad has ridden the waves with her. He'll think she's turning a corner with a nice text or two to him but it will turn out she just wants help with her phone and if he spends a bit of time with her, she'll eventually turn on him - back to the same accusations. She's also taken some of his things and thrown them out near the trash, including his pacemaker monitor.
A couple days back, the neuro doctor walked my mom through her report and despite all the evidence to the contrary, my mom told me the report was "GREAT" (she noted she doesn't have Alzheimer's, which it seems is true, but vascular is no better from what I can tell; and perhaps worse in ways!). Given she was able to sit with the doctor and hear the results firsthand, I thought I could explain to her the severity of what was going on and why we needed to get her the care she needs but she just won't hear it. She thinks the doctors have told her she can either go into Assisted Living or get 24/7 care - that's not true at all. I've tried to explain that those two things are mutually exclusive, but again, she's not having it. She wants no part of memory care and believe me, if there was any way we could do this without having to put her into memory care, at least for some period of time, my whole family would be all for it. We don't see any alternative at this point.
The horrible thing is that if she won't go voluntarily, I think our only option is to call 911 and have her taken in once the guardianship has gone through. This breaks all of our hearts. I don't think my dad can do it. I don't know if I can do it but I know I may have to do it. My only solace is that our family member with her now says her quality at life at home right now is not good. She is either shuffling around the house "organizing" at all hours of the day and night, or on her phone (we believe making notes to herself that we're not sure she even saves). We all believe that in a facility over time, she may begin to socialize better and given how high functioning she is, even find some purpose and meaning in helping folks out who are suffering differently than she is. She's always been generous with her time and service-oriented (until this disease started to take all of that away a couple years back now that we realize what it was). We also think she'd benefit from excursions with us and others out of the facility for meals/events etc. if we can get her more stable.
I've read some incredible stories in these threads but wanted to share ours in the case it could help someone who might be going through the same things but also to see if there's anything we're missing? We feel we've explored every feasible option and our hands are tied at this point. I'm sick to my stomach all day long worrying about this and wake up almost every night trying to decide what to do. It's taken over all our lives. I welcome any feedback.
(*Note that I haven't given a ton of detail on the behavioral issues but suffice it to say that there's no possibility that my dad could look after her, at least right now. It's not safe for either her or him for the same reasons it wasn't that Easter Day. I also worry about any other caregiver as each person who has tried to help has become the subject of her ire and if they don't bend to her every request - take her to superfluous dr appts, hair appts, the phone store to check her phone which she never thinks is working properly, etc. - they will have hell to pay for some period of time.)

2024.05.13 21:28 Chedskiee Need Advice - Struggling with Self-Sabotage and Distractions While Studying

Hey everyone,

I'm reaching out because I'm really struggling with a pattern of self-sabotage when it comes to studying, and I could really use some advice or support.
I'm studying for a bachelor's degree in IT, and I'm finding courses pretty challenging. Despite knowing the importance of studying and the consequences of not doing so (like difficulty finding a job, wasting my education investment, and missing out on graduate opportunities), I keep procrastinating until the last minute.
One of my biggest distractions is my phone. I find myself mindlessly scrolling through social media for hours every day, which often leads me down a rabbit hole of unproductive activities like watching porn and masturbating. I've tried deleting social media apps, but I always end up reinstalling them out of boredom.
I'm already in my 30's, studying in a foreign country, with no relative job experience and feeling the pressure of a competitive job market in my field. I'm worried that if I don't break this cycle soon, I'll end up sabotaging my future prospects even further.
I'd really appreciate any specific advice or strategies on how to overcome this self-sabotage and develop better study habits or even habits in life. What has worked for you in similar situations? How can I break free from this cycle and make the most of my education and opportunities?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. It means a lot to me. This is not a prank post and i am really just in a desperate situation to find help..

2024.05.13 21:19 scotch1701 Don't know how I missed it last time, Vault 88

For those of you lucky enough NOT to know, reference to the number 88 is often tinged in real life with some ugly sentiments. The letter H is the 8th letter of the alphabet, and 88 is often seen on tattoos or in usernames as a reference to (Heil (asshole)). It has passed from "a number" to being, at times, "a code or reference that an in-crowd will recognize." The number 420 has also achieved such status.
When I see an 88 in a username, my first thought is no longer "born in 1988" but rather "person that I don't want in my group." Nevertheless, I think that the creators of this content were not N sympathizers, but rather that they put real life references into the game, veiled as always, and subject to interpretation. When I saw "Vault 88" I groaned. As I entered, I saw some things that made me think twice about why they were included.
Let's look at some of the themes that are present in the quests in Vault 88. This is my take on these. Your opinions may vary. Perhaps this is grasping at straws, but I see quite a few references to the N.
(1) Experiments on unwilling or unknowing subjects, with the experiments being potentially lethal, as you tuned the bicycle, the soda machine, or the eye machine, to be stronger or weaker. This could easily be a reference to the experiments that the N did on certain residents of their "camps." (2) Dialogue with Valery Barstow Repeated reference to experiments for "The greater good." H made reference to "the greater good" in his speeches. Doctors shouldn't put their patient's welfare first. Instead, their sole focus should be the collective good. So if they must squander their time, let us turn it to the collective good: with chemistry. Maintaining Clem's trust isn't the focus of these experiments. Our collective welfare is. (3) The vault was supposed to have a very "specific set" of residents. A reference to concentration camps, and who the Ns put in there. (4) References to "Dr. Braun," the head of the old vault's experiments, a rather German name. A reference to Stanislaus Braun from Fallout 3, who was a pre-war German. But you can assure Doctor Braun, if he's even still around, that I have used the time productively. Doctor Braun tasked me with something vital. A series of prototypes and their related... well, experiments, that could redefine society. Doctor Braun is the head of the Societal Preservation Plan. A brilliant scientist and administrator Following in the footsteps of Doctor Braun and the others, I have spent my time devising my very own prototype. (5) The resident "Clem" has a name that, colloquially (in British English), can mean "to cause to suffer from hunger, thirst, or cold" The N often did this to their subjects in their camps. (6) When the experiments are over, if you don't do the dangerous experiments, Valery Barstow leaves the vault. Is she headed to Argentina? (7) Various references, at random. (7a). "Menace" Whether it rears its head around the coffee pot, water cooler, or soda fountain... it's a menace. (7b) But we must not dally. The work compels us. (Will the work make them free?) (7c) Another question for you. What can you tell me about your mother? (Hitler was quoted as saying that his mother was the only person that he loved)

2024.05.13 20:37 Avery-Attack I'm Going to Lose My Heath Insurance

I feel like a real idiot right now. I'm enrolled in state health insurance (I work part time and go to school full time) but when the enrollment period came around I...never reinrolled. Though in previous years my insurance had always rolled over to the next year without me doing anything, that isn't really an excuse. They sent me a packet to complete and I put it on my desk and then I forgot about it for months. Now it's a month past the postmark date and I got a letter telling me my insurance will be discontinued at the end of the month. And I'm freaking out a little. I FINALLY got in with a psychiatrist, FINALLY got on meds, and things are FINALLY getting better just to be yanked to a stop over this things I didn't do before I started making progress. Without insurance I won't be able to pay for my appointments and god knows I won't be able to afford these meds that have been changing my life (I take generic Adderall, so on top of it being expensive, there's also a shortage to worry about. Not to mention the other meds I have to take being expensive too).
They allow for appeals if you think you have a reason for losing your coverage, but what am I supposed to say. "Oh, right, yeah, I forgot."? I know it's to do with adhd that I forgot, but I doubt that will go over super well.
Hopefully I can reapply next month when the insurance is up. They have open enrollment for lower income and since I'm only part time I will hopefully still qualify. Still, now I'm anxious and feel like a dummy and lost all motivation for the day. So that kind of sucks.

2024.05.13 20:31 BUTO- Hello help a young one sa diskarte sa buhay! Hehehehe

Hi m25. Fresh grad and got my 1st job last sept 2023. Quick BG check lang po. I came from a middle class family. My parents provided us our own car, binibigyan ako allowance for toll, gas, maintenance and also life insurance. Their mindset is “ipunin mo lang sahod mo hanggang kaya pa namin mag provide” never nila kami in-insist mag ambag sa bills sa bahay or anything. Iniispoil nila kami sa mga travels or any wants namin.
So to conclude solo lang namin sahod namin and I earn about 30k+ kasama na OT and allowances ng company, also with free accommodation and food.May savings na din po ako almost 200k galing sa sahod + online games. Saan po kaya maganda i-invest ang aking savings para naman somehow mag grow yung pera ko in the future if ever man na gusto ko bumukod or what. Thankyou so much po sa inyo, and Godbless po sa inyo!!!

2024.05.13 20:15 Dry_Sleep_4376 What should I do with this lump sum that benefits me and also pays me?

For context, my daughters dad passed away 6 weeks ago. I will be receiving $42,600 in life insurance money in the coming weeks.
My daughter is 12, and her dad was making a $700 a month child support payment.
She will be receiving $290 gross monthly for the child survivors benefit.
I myself have $25,000 worth of debt from a car ($5000 remaining, $61/week), and $20,000 in LOC debt ($66/wk).
I don’t know what my best options are here. Between the survivor benefit and the child support payment, I was planning on rationing about $400 a month from the $42k to make up the difference that I lose from not having that child support money. I would invest the 42k somehow so it gains interest while I am just pulling money from it monthly.
Or do I wipe out my debt and free up extra cash on a monthly basis?
Also important to note is that my mortgage is coming up for renewal in December (currently $328k 2.84%) so I am expecting a jump in payments in the coming months.

2024.05.13 20:10 fixtheblue [Discussion] A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab - Chapters Five through Eight

Thank you u/luna2541 for leading us through the first section of A Darker Shade of Magic. I'll be your host for the second check-in. Below is a (not particularly) brief summary. There are prompt questions in the comments. Feel free to answer none, some, all, or add your own questions or comments.
If you need it the schedule is here and the marginalia is here. Spoilers from this book should be avoided and spoilers from other books or media must be behind spoiler tags. Use the following format to hide text > !your spoiler goes here! < (but without the spaces).
Lets head on over to "Grey London, which is yours. Red London, which is mine. White London, which is Holland’s. And Black London, which is no one’s."
Summary

FIVE: BLACK STONE

  • I - Lila follows three street rats who steal from an urchin to whom she had just given some change.
  • II - The letter delivery is a set up. The paper is blank. Kell feels the magic before a shadow jumps him.
  • III - Lila waits for the rats to seperate before jumping one only for the other 2 to return. The recognise her as The Shadow Thief. She escapes.
  • IV - Kell races to Ruby Fields losing his ambusher(s). The stolen parcel contains a stone engraved with the Antari word Vitari meaning magic. Kell hears someone approaching though no one should be aware of the room. The fabric the stone was wrapped in contained a tracing spell. Kell jumps out of the window to escape but is followed by a man with a X scar on his hand denoting him a cutthroat or traitor. He carries an enchanted blade of the royal guard and demands Kell surrender. Kell is wounded by this blade and so his own magic will not work. Instead he unintentionally taps into the stones magic to stop one assailant. The other he kills with his knife.
  • V - Kell can't use blood magic to travel to Grey London. In a panic he taps the stone and makes the jump where he is robbed by a girl in men's clothing. She took the stone!

SIX: THIEVES MEET

  • I - The magic Kell used on the cutthroat from the black stone invades him and there is "just enough [life] left" in the body. It begins to move....
  • II - Lila returns to her room disappointed with her discovery that she only managed to steal a useless broken stone when Kell appears demanding it back. Kell collapses.
  • III - Kell is tied to the bed but relieved to feel his magic has returned. He dramatically burns his bindings away. Lila uses the stone's magic before Kell is able to subdue her by trapping her wrist in the wall. Kell leaves via the window.
  • IV - Lila hacks her hand free then tosses the sword she conjured out the window. Booth, a drunk man leaving the tavern, finds it. The hand holding it seems to take on a life of its own. It stabs the sword into Booth's body. The blood in his veins turning black and spreading through his body and turning both eyes black.

SEVEN: THE FOLLOWER

  • I - Holland appears to Lila and with threats forces her to call Kell. Kell comes and orders Lila to run.
  • II - Kell had sensed Holland's magic before hearing Lila's cry out. The two Antari fight and Holland manages to best Kell taking the stone and using its magic. Kell's blood begins oozing out of his body while chains hold him in place. Lila returns just in time. She disables Holland with a blow to the head then uses the stone to free Kell. Lila chains Holland's body using the stone. With help she manages to get Kell onto a cot just before he passes out.
  • III - Lila had dragged Kell back to The Stone's Throw in the rain. She burnt herbs to mask the magic smell. Lila confessed to Barron she had taken him as a mark. Filling him in on the evening's events. Kell sleeps while Lila worries and wonders.

EIGHT: AN ARRANGEMENT

  • I - Kell wakes feeling awful, but noting his wounds were almost healed even though it had only been a few hours. Lila had used a salve on the wounds she had found in one of his pockets. Kell explains about the different worlds and sources of magic such as the Thames. He tells her how the worlds diverged and Black London got cut off. The black stone is pure vitari without humanity or harmony. It must be destroyed, but that would be impossible. Therefore the only solution is to take it back to Black London to prevent it being misused. Kell can use the stone as a token to make a door to Black London, but it must be from White London. Lila wants to come with him on his mission. Kell relents though it is forbidden for Lila to travel between worlds. Lila leaves her valuables and they sneak out of the tavern
  • II - They head through the slowly waking Grey London streets to where Kell has a door to Red London. Lila removes the stone from its hiding place in her hat and after planting a kiss on Kell's lips they try to pass from Grey to Red London.
  • III - Barron wakes to the sounds of footsteps above in Lila's room. Armed with a shotgun he investigates. From Lila's description he knows the intruder is Holland and shoots him without hesitating. Holland saves himself with magic then slits Barron's throat.
Join u/maolette next week for chapters Nine through Eleven. III.
"The world sits in balance,” said Kell, “humanity in one hand, magic in the other. The two exist in every living thing, and in a perfect world, they maintain a kind of harmony, neither exceeding the other. But most worlds are not perfect"

2024.05.13 19:47 FlowAdditional10 Visa Rejected for Handling Agency irresponsibility!

Hello,
I’m a Turkish citizen who has never lived in Turkey until 2 years ago when i came to study.
Recently i’ve decided to go to Germany to surprise my Girlfriend for her birthday with the help of our friend.
My friend wrote me an invitation letter and I prepared the documents with the perfect wording and providing every document i can.
I needed to submit for the Schengen visa via a Handling Agency called “iDATA” , I waited for 2 months for my appointment, and After I got it i went to my Appointment with everything ready just to be surprised by the person who is on the application-control window to tell me that i need a “Sponsor Letter” because i’m a student and not employed.
I was stunned and told him that i do not have a sponsor and i mainly get my money from my Father, which he said that i can replace the Letter for a bank statement of my own account, following it with handing me a paper which he requested me to write on it in Turkish (which i do not speak) that “i don’t have a sponsor in turkey (because my family lives outside of turkey) therefore i have attached a Bank statement from my personal account” and my signature under it.
Later, the same day of application, the same employee contacted me via Phone and told me that i have a missing document which was a Receipt for my insurance, which i provided immediately via email.
And when i checked my application status on their website, it said i had missing documents, which i called iDATA and asked about and they told me that my application was complete and already sent to the consulate.
Around 15 days later, I was contacted to claim my passport, which i found a letter of rejection attached to it stating “we have reasonable doubts about you leaving the member state before the expiry of your Visa” and that iDATA informed me that i have missing documents which supposedly should’ve been the proof that I’m connected to coming back to turkey.
It was the biggest let down of my life!
I tried appealing but i must appeal to the Administrative Court in Berlin, which according to them will take around 8-10 months to process the appeal lawsuit.
This cannot be an option for me because my girlfriend’s birthday is in 1 month.
And the consulate/embassy does not accept any appeal letters.
I have checked a million times before applying and nobody told me anything about a “sponsor letter”, even on the Website of the embassy does not state anything about a “Sponsor Letter”.
You can check ((https://tuerkei.diplo.de/tr-de/service/05-VisaEinreise/-/2620994#content_1 , Number 3 - Section D).
Please can anyone help me with this? What can i do in this case ?
————— P.S: i have attached with my application a student enrollment letter to proof that i study in Istanbul. And i have attached a document which states that i live in Istanbul as my main residence.

2024.05.13 19:41 Relative-Obscurity My wife and I lived on a soundstage. Terrible things are happening in there.

Link to original nosleep post:
https://www.reddit.com/nosleep/comments/1c3tx9y/my_wife_and_i_lived_on_a_soundstage_terrible/
For a while, every day was the same.
I'd wake up in the morning, kiss my wife, make a cup of coffee, throw on my uniform, and walk the beat. My beat. Where every day I'd say hello to the same townsfolk, pet the same dogs, and buy the same donut. Every. Single. Day.
It was routine. It was predictable. It was perfectly normal. And I loved it.
But then, one day... something changed.
One day... someone had to go and get themselves killed.
And the thing about murder in my town was... it had never happened before.
Cause the truth is... my town... wasn't real.
It was a fabrication. An illusion. An experiment. A "town" of actors, playing make believe on a literal soundstage built on an old airplane hangar out in the middle of nowhere. An "open world" within the confines of the hangar's walls, with no internet, or access to "the outside," as we called it. And everyone was in on it. Even me.
The only catch was... nobody knew why the soundstage even existed in the first place.
Some said it started out as a film shoot. Others said an immersive theater production. And some even said a roleplaying game. But I never saw any cameras, or curtains... or dice for that matter. For all intents and purposes, "the stage," as it had come to be known, was a living, breathing ecosystem, with its own currency, government, health insurance, education system, postal service, and of course... rules.
Rules like leaving your cell phone at the gate on your way in. Signing a non-disclosure agreement on your way out. And never, ever breaking character, or questioning the soundstage, while you're inside it.
Which is why, whenever my wife Laura and I did just that, we spoke in whispers.
"Murdered?" Laura asked.
"Murdered." I repeated.
"But that's never happened before?"
"I know. That's the thing."
"Well what happens now?"
"I mean if we were in the outside, the police - I mean, we, would investigate it."
"Well why don't you?"
"Honey, we're not equipped for that. None of us are actual cops. We're teachers, lawyers, janitors, and -"
"Criminals?" She asked, pointing to me, with the same cheeky smile that she always did, whenever she reminded me of my sorted past.
"And yes, criminals. Without any real authority, resources, or tools. I mean look at this, honey," I said, knocking on my gun, to a hollow sound. "How am I gonna catch a murderer with a wooden gun?"
"So what happens to the body?"
"They're burying it."
"Here? On the stage? Without an investigation? How can they get away with that?"
"Cause nobody in the outside knows about this place, Laura. And anyone who leaves here, is sworn to secrecy."

The next morning, the chief asked me to accompany him to the victim's private funeral, held at the stage's one and only church, and attended by only a select few privileged individuals.
"We come here to celebrate the life of Oscar Morris. Not mourn it." Father Mullen, our resident priest, began. A priest we all knew well, and whose sermons, for many, were the cornerstone of our small but tight knit community.
He then began to read from a passage that I read along with, in a book that I had picked up from the back of the pew.
But as I continued to scan the page, something about its words seemed strange to me. Strange... and unfamiliar. Like the passage had been changed.
But before I could dwell on the thought too long, Father Mullen finished reading. He then proceeded to share a couple fond memories of his few, but positive interactions with Oscar, before ending with a prayer, and sending us on our way.
"Let us go in peace." The priest said, before gesturing for a few of us to help pick up the casket, and carry it out of the church, where it was to be taken away to be buried in some far off corner of the stage.
Remembering Oscar to be a heavyset man, I leaned into my boots in such a way as to brace myself for the weight of the casket, but when I finally picked it up, I discovered that it was quite light.
And as I helped the others carry the wooden box out of the church, my mind couldn't help but race.
Wait a minute. Oscar's body should feel heavier than this. Even with his weight distributed across four men, there's no way that the casket would feel this light. That must mean... that the body of Oscar Morris must not be in the casket. And begs the question... where is it then?
After placing the casket in the hearse, I pulled Father Mullen aside.
"Father, I'm not quite sure how to tell you this... but something's... not right about Oscar's casket." I whispered to the old man.
"Whatever do you mean, my son?" He whispered back.
"It felt... very light. And Oscar was a heavy man. We should check to make sure he's inside-"
But the priest interrupted me.
"May I have a word with you in the rectory?"

Father Mullen then led me back through the church, past the pulpit, and into his small office, shutting the door behind him.
And after taking a seat on the other side of an oak desk, he gestured for me to sit down across from him.
"You were saying?" The priest continued.
"Father, I don't think that Oscar's body is in that casket."
He paused for a minute, before smiling, and ironically, making a confession to me.
"Well of course it's not."
"Of course?"
"It's a sacrifice."
"A sacrifice? For what purpose would Oscar's death have been justified?"
"No, no, my son. His body is literally being sacrificed."
"That's a funny one, Father." I chuckled.
But Father Mullen reassured me that he was serious. "I'm afraid it's not a joke. He's to be ritualistically sacrificed tonight, and all of the blood drained from his body."
I stopped and took a moment to compose my thoughts.
"You're... actually sacrificing Oscar? To what end? And why?"
"Can I be frank with you for a minute?" The priest said, leaning forward on the desk, as he loosened his collar.
"Sure."
"Listen. This place... this... stage... is exactly that. A front. A facade. For what's really going on. And what is really going on... is best for you not to know. Let's just say, these people... these townsfolk that we let live here. Their stay here... doesn't come without a cost."
"But-"
"You're not really a cop, right? Just a regular guy, playing one?" The priest reasoned.
"No, I'm not a real cop." I agreed.
"Well, I'm not a real priest. Think of it that way."
"I just don't understand."
"Now, that leaves you with three options. One. You can either stop snooping around, go back to being a cop, and turn a blind eye to any murders or disappearances here on the stage. Two. You can leave the town today, return to the outside, and keep your mouth shut forever. Or three... You can die."
He then leaned back in his seat, and gave me the opportunity to think it over. But I didn't quite know how to process what he'd revealed to me, let alone the options that he'd presented, or the threat, and said nothing.
"Oh, and if you don't believe what we're capable of," Father Mullen continued, "You can ask your wife."

By the time I ran all the way back to my apartment, and burst through the door... it was too late.
The priest's men had already broken in, tied up my wife, and left her sitting there, crying at the kitchen table, as she stared at the decapitated head of Oscar Morris, just lying there on a plate.
Breaking Laura free of her bonds, I then led her into the other room, where I proceeded to tell her about my encounter with the priest... and his ominous implications about Oscar and the soundstage.
So we did what any right minded individuals would do, packing our bags right then and there, walking over to the gate, signing two non-disclosure agreements, collecting our belongings and cell phones, leaving "the stage," and returning to "the outside."
And in the ten years that have passed since we left, we've always honored the NDA and the priest's request to never, ever tell anyone else about the soundstage on the old airplane hangar out in the middle of nowhere, and what's really going on inside there...
...Until now.

2024.05.13 19:37 Relative-Obscurity I found a set of blank cassette tapes at the junk store. And someone died trying to find what they led to.

Link to original nosleep post:
https://www.reddit.com/nosleep/comments/1bml3v0/i_found_a_set_of_blank_cassette_tapes_at_the_junk/
The journey to discovering the first body was even more exhausting than I anticipated. And according to the tapes that I'd found in the junk store, there were still seven more out there... somewhere in the marsh.
Who knows how far we'll have to go, just to find the next one? I wondered, as I waited for the second cassette's audio to begin playing.
"If you're listening to this, you found the first body in the marsh. To find the second, simply take five steps north." The narrator began, his voice playing back from the cassette player and into my headphones.
But upon waiting for further instructions, I only heard silence.
Wait... What? I thought to myself, before the man continued.
"You're probably wondering how that could be possible. Well, the truth is, the body that you just found... is part of a pair. A couple, to be precise. In this case, a very old couple, guilty of buying into a false dream. That, of lifelong companionship. An illusion of eternal love, knowing full well, that we're all born alone... and die alone. When you're ready to find the next body, switch over to the third tape."
CLICK.
I pressed pause on the cassette player. There are two bodies here?
That's when I remembered that Jess and Mike were still digging in the mud, a few feet from where we found the first body, in an attempt to find its clue, and completely unaware that there was another corpse beneath their feet.
"Wait! Stop!" I called out to them.
But it was too late.
Seeing the remains of the second body, Jess screamed and stumbled back, while Mike, having just pulled a small wooden box out of the ground, suddenly dropped it and closed his eyes.
"Another one?" He yelled out to me.
"Yeah. According to the tapes, it was a couple." I explained.
"Well thanks for warning us!" Jess added.
"I just played it now!"I replied.
"Well did it say their names?" Mike asked.
"Their names? No. But it said they were very old."
"Ah, okay."
"Why do you ask?"
"No reason." Mike replied, defensively.
"So what was the clue?" Jess interjected.
Mike picked up the wooden box that he had just unearthed from the burial site, opened it, and revealed a piece of paper, with nothing but the letter "J" written on it.
"What do you think it means?" I asked.
"It's just one clue, idiot." Mike scoffed. "It's too soon to say. More the reason we get to finding the others. What are the next instructions?"
I switched tape "2" for tape "3" and pressed play.
CLICK.
"You've made it to tape three. Which means you've discovered the first two bodies. To find the next one, keep heading in the same direction you've been walking, and don't stop until you find the wreckage of an old boat, lodged in the mud. Not far from it, you'll find the third body. When you do, switch to tape four."
CLICK.

We'd been trudging through the marsh, navigating the fog with just a single flashlight, for what must have been another twenty minutes or so, when Jess and Mike's banter began to wear on me.
"You know, with the election coming up in just a few days, I really wish I could vote." Jess said to Mike.
"Why?" He asked.
"'Cause then I could help change the world."
"That's not how it works. You'd vote for Clinton in an already blue state, so it would basically mean nothing."
"You're both wrong!" I interrupted. "The world doesn't change overnight, and her vote would matter. But none of us are old enough to vote anyway, so can we just drop-"
But before I could continue, Jess interjected, calling back to Mike and I from up ahead.
"Hey guys..."
We both looked over, to find her pointing to, of all things, a thick mist that was enveloping everything ahead of us, and rapidly closing in.
"Maybe we should head back after all." Jess backtracked.
"Yeah, you already found a second body, Mike. Now can we just go home?" I insisted.
But Mike wasn't having it.
"Sorry losers. We gotta keep going. A vote's a vote. But we're almost there. And don't worry, a little fog's not gonna hurt nobody."
That's when it hit me.
"Mike, back at the last couple we found. You had asked me if the tape had said their names?"
"Yeah. So what?" He replied.
"Why is that?"
"I told you. No reason."
"Just be honest."
"Alright fine..." He said, before pausing for a moment, and then looking me in the eyes. "...I thought that maybe my dad was one of them."
"I knew it!" I exclaimed, frantically pacing around the grass. "Mike, are you kidding me? That's why you're dragging us along with you?"
"Now that I know there are all these missing people out here, it just got me thinking... Maybe that's where he ended up." He replied.
"Dude," I began, "Hate to break it ya, but your dad was a drunk, who went to the packie one day, and never came back. I don't know where he is. But one thing I do know is... he sure as heck ain't out here."
"What did you just say, Tyler?" Mike growled, his face growing red with anger, as he stormed over to me.
But Jess jumped between us. "Hey, stop!"
"Fine. You know what. I don't need you guys. I'll find the rest of the bodies myself." Mike said defiantly, as he turned around and walked away.
"But what about the mist? We only have one flashlight." I yelled out to him.
"Keep it! I don't need it!" He called back to us, without looking back, as he disappeared into the fog.

Jess and I must have been walking in circles for a good thirty minutes, disoriented by the mist, before we finally got our bearings, and continued on our way back home.
"It's just funny is all. Pahk the cah." Jess said, doing her best impression of a Boston accent, while careful not to trip in the grass.
"That's your impression of me?" I asked, my boots splashing in the mud.
"Yeah, is it wicked pissah, kid?" She answered playfully.
"Good one." I replied. "Easy for you transplants to joke about our accents, after you move to our town, with your fancy homes, your fancy cars, and your Long Island accents. Well, you know what? Maybe I find your accent funny too."
"Do you now?"
I paused for a moment.
"Nah, it's cute." I replied.
"Cute?" Jess asked.
"Oh, I mean uh... totally not cute at all, I swear."
She stopped and gave me a cheeky smile.
"Tyler, are you flirting with me?"
"No..." I said, as she took a step closer.
"'Cause you know, out here in the marsh, surrounded by a sinister fog and all these dead corpses, might be..."
"An inappropriate time?" I interjected, my face beginning to blush.
Jess leaned in even closer, her face just an inch from mine, and smiled. "...Romantic."
As she was about to kiss me, I saw her close her eyes, but couldn't seem to close mine, completely in shock that this moment was finally happening.
But just before her lips touched mine, I felt my boots sinking into the mud, and tilted my head down, leaving her hanging there, confused.
"What's wrong?" Jess asked, opening her eyes, a look of disappointment washing over her face.
"Um... We have a bit of a problem." I said, gesturing to the ground, where both of our legs were now almost completely submerged in the mud.
"Oh no!" Jess said, before attempting to pull herself out of the ground, and realizing that she was stuck. I followed suit, also to no avail.
Then we looked at each other, and both began to laugh at the awkward situation we'd gotten ourselves into... until we continued to sink deeper and deeper into the mud.
Jess' eyes suddenly turned from jovial to concerned, and she began yelling, "Help! Help!"
I joined in, but after a few minutes of shouting, began to lose hope, accepting our inevitable demise, and the irony of two more bodies being added to the marshy graveyard.
But just when the mud reached our necks, as we each shot each other one last look of affection, suddenly someone came stomping over, and ripped us out of the ground.
"What on earth are you two kids doing out here at this hour?" Our rescuer exclaimed, as he dropped us onto a more stable patch of grassy marshland a few feet away.
He was an old man with a white beard, wearing a pair of rubber wading pants, that were completely covered in mud.
The serial killer! I thought to myself, before realizing that his voice sounded nothing like the tape's narrator, and that he could have easily killed us when we were stuck in the marsh, but didn't.
"We got lost." I replied, careful not to offer up too much information.
"Thanks for saving us." Jess added.
"You two are lucky I was out here."
"What were you doing out here?" I asked, suspicious of his why someone, besides us, would be out here in the marsh so late at night.
"Clammin.'" He replied.
"Clammin'?" Jess asked.
"I'm a clammer. Ain't nothin in the world that brings me as much solace as searching for clams at night. But anyways, you two better be getting back. I saw the man out there earlier."
"The man?" I asked.
"Yes, the man in the marsh." He replied.
"Who's... that?" Jess added.
"Us clammers and fishermen see him all the time, out there in the marsh. Always at night. And always digging away in the mud. Legend has it, he's the captain of that submerged boat out there, forever trying to free it."
Jess and I both looked at each other, our eyes wide with fear.
"Anyways, I'd better be getting back. Low tide's upon us and there's clams to be clammed. You kids get home safe now."
And like that, he was gone, disappearing into the fog like a ghost in the night.
But Jess and I were much more concerned with what he'd told us, than with the old man himself.
"We've gotta find Mike!" Jess said frantically, as she turned to me, a look of panic in her eyes.
"Are you serious?" I replied. "But we agreed to head back. Mike made his choice to stay."
"You heard the old man. There's someone else out there. We've gotta save him."
"But-" I began to say, before Jess grabbed me by the collar and interrupted.
"No buts, Tyler! These tapes found their way to you, not us. They chose you. You were the one who was meant to get us into this mess, and you are the one who's meant to get us out of it. So please, for crying out loud, put on your big boy pants, turn around, and be a hero for once in your life."
I didn't know whether to feel hurt or flattered. All I knew was that she was right. I'd never really had much of a purpose in life before finding the tapes, and in a weird way, they gave me one. So I dusted off the dried mud from my clothes, took Jess by the hand, and set off into the foggy marshland.

When we finally arrived at the wreckage of the old boat, we found the nearby burial site completely excavated, the tape's third body protruding from the ground, and a box with what presumably was the next clue lying beside it.
And not far away, just lying there in the grass...
...Was Mike. Half alive, his body caught in an old bear trap, its rusty jaws clamping down into his torso, blood pouring out everywhere.
"I found the body." He mumbled to Jess and I, as he noticed us approaching, blood dripping from his mouth.
"Mike!" Jess screamed, as she started to run towards him, before I stopped her and crouched down to help him.
But no matter how hard I tried and tried... no matter how much force I put into it... the trap wouldn't release Mike from its grip.
Eventually, I stood up and took a few steps back, knowing that my friend would soon die from his wounds, as my own blood was now pouring from my arm.
Jess and I both knelt down by his side.
"I'm sorry... For what I said." I whispered to him, as a tear rolled down my cheek.
"I'm sorry too." He replied.
"Did someone do this to you?" Jess asked.
"No." Mike replied. "I had just found the body, but couldn't see well, and accidentally stepped in the trap. But then a little while later, I did see him."
"Who?" Jess asked.
"The man from the tapes. He walked by and stood there for a minute, right where you were just standing. He looked at me for a moment, then just walked away and left me here to die."
"The man in the marsh." Jess said.
"Tell me something, Tyler." Mike began, gesturing to the body. "Is it him? Is it my dad?"
I sat there for a minute, not sure what to say, then moved the headphones from around my neck to my head, switched tape "3" for tape "4" and pressed play.
CLICK.
"If you're listening to this, you've found the third body. A widow, guilty of investing her entire life in that of another. Her husband, who, after sharing her life, her time, and her memories with, simply passed away one day. She should have known, as we've learned from the first two bodies, that love is not forever. And investing in it, a fool's errand. When you're ready for the directions to the next bodies, switch to the fifth tape."
CLICK.
I looked at Mike as he lay there, dying in the grass, a hopeful look in his eye.
"It was him. It was your dad, Mike." I said, unable to tell him the truth, and hoping the lie would bring him some sense of closure, some sense of solace, in his final moments.
He probably knew I was lying, but nevertheless... it brought a smile to his face.
"Thank you." He mumbled, before his eyes eventually closed, and he passed on from this life.
Jess and I both began to cry our eyes out, as we sat there in the mud, our warm embrace counterpoint to the cold body that lay beside us.
"Maybe we should go back... and get help." Jess said, sniffling, a sense of defeat in her voice.
"No," I replied, wiping the tears from my face. "It's too late. We've gotta keep going. We've gotta find the bodies, and make this guy pay for what he's done."
Jess reached over and helped me wrap my plaid shirt around my arm, in an effort to clot the wound, as I stared down at the ground, still processing what had just happened.
"Mike hated this shirt." I said, unable to stop myself from letting out a laugh.
"He really did." Jess replied, fighting a tearful chuckle of her own.
That's when I remembered the wooden box that I'd seen earlier, its structure identical to the one we'd found by the first two bodies.
I picked it up and opened it, revealing a piece of paper, with nothing but the letter "A" written on it.
"Another letter. "A."" I said.
"'J" and "A"." Jess replied, "What do you think it's spelling?"
"I have no idea."
"Well, we'd better find the next one then."
As the mist began to clear, and Jess looked out at the immense stretch of marshland that still lay before us, I switched tape "4" for tape "5" and pressed play.
CLICK.

2024.05.13 19:33 Several_Bag_1770 Am I doing enough?

Hi all! I think I am just looking for mostly reassurance at this point regarding taking care of my grandma. Here is my situation (buckle up, this is a long one):
I was estranged from my biological father and his family from my teen years until about 2 years ago. Long story short, my parents got divorced when I was 2, my mom moved me out of state when she married my stepfather and I spent every summer in childhood visiting my father's family. For context, I am the only child of my father (my mom had other children from a later marriage, my half siblings, my father never had any more kids). Around my teen years, those visits stopped and I just kept in contact with my biological grandmother on my dad's side through the occasional letters over the years. I have a lot of resentment toward my parents for their poor decision making and how it's affected so much of how I act in my relationships as an adult. I have sought out therapy and am doing my best to recover.
In May of 2022, I received a phone call from my paternal grandma (who was 97 at the time), which was so unusual and very nerve-wracking because she never called me, we only communicated through letters. She told me that my father was very sick but couldn't give me many details. She was very hard of hearing and knew nothing about his illness except that it was a "blood disease." My father had been divorced 3 times and after the 3rd one, he moved in with my grandma and they were great friends. I think it was a good arrangement for them both. After that phone call, I did a lot of thinking and soul searching and decided that I should visit my father.
My husband (who never met this side of my family) visited my father and grandma later that month. I was shocked at their condition. My father never got up from his chair and looked so frail and sick. My grandma was actually in better health than him despite her age, but she still obviously couldn't care for him in his sickness. She could barely get up from her chair and was very unsteady walking around. I tried to get details from my father about his health but he was confused and unable to tell me anything concrete. But he did tell me that hospice was coming to see him the next day. So we came back the next day to be there when the hospice intake nurse came. He was even more confused the next day, couldn't spell his middle name or answer questions clearly. I did my best to answer questions (even though I barely knew him since we had been estranged for so long) and provided my phone number as a contact for them. It was all incredibly overwhelming. That meeting ended with my father wanting a little more time to think about it before being officially admitted to hospice. My husband and I went back home and I was overwhelmed about everything.
A few days later, I got a phone call from hospice. My father had reached a point where he was incontinent and belligerent and my grandma called the phone number on the card the hospice worker had left from her visit because she was desperate for help. I was suddenly thrust into a situation of trying to make decisions for a man I barely knew states away. It was obvious my 97 year old grandmother could no longer care for him at home, so he was taken to the hospital. I was able to talk with his doctor over the phone who told me that he had leukemia. The treatment he had been receiving was not working and he estimated that my father had 6 weeks to live. He would be admitted to an inpatient hospice facility until he died. I barely was able to process that because there was another huge issue: who is going to look after my grandma after he dies?
(A little more family background here: my father has an older brother who lives out of state. The two brothers never got along and from what I hear, my uncle had the tendency to rub people the wrong way. My uncle only communicated with his mother - my grandma - through the occasional birthday and Christmas card. That uncle has 2 kids, my cousins, who live in the same state as my uncle. The older cousin calls my grandma once in a while. My grandma has distant relatives who live about 45 minutes away and visit very occasionally.)
My husband and I talked a lot and I decided that I needed to go and stay with my grandma while my dad was in hospice. I was able to work remotely and so was my husband, so we made the drive back to my grandma's house and stayed with her, taking her to visit my dad every day, cooking, cleaning, etc.
My dad died on May 31, 2022, only about a week after he was admitted to hospice. I handled all the logistics and planning of the funeral. My grandma, who was totally competent mentally, was stone cold deaf and emotionally unable to handle any of it, so I was left to do everything, despite barely knowing him and not really having the chance to process my own very complicated grief at losing an estranged parent. Fortunately he had the wisdom to take out a life insurance policy years before with me as the beneficiary and I was able to pay for the funeral with that money.
And instead of his death being the end of something, it was the beginning of the most stressful time in my adult life. I spent day and night looking into care options for my grandma. We finally got her some hearing aides (something my father never thought to do for her I guess) and I spent hours on the internet, researching what is covered by Medicare, if she was eligible for Medicaid, etc. I called her state's agency for aging, multiple home health aide companies, the works. We had to go back to our home state to resume our lives, and all the while, my mental energy was spent on worrying about her and running through every option for care over and over again.
And here we are, TWO YEARS LATER. My grandma is now 99 years old at the end of this month. In May of last year, my husband very unexpectedly and heartbreakingly lost his job of 12 years. After that happened, we decided it was time to pick up our lives and move in with our grandma. While we were living in our state and she alone in hers after my dad died, I called her pretty much every day to check on her. I was constantly anxious and on edge. We visited her as much as we could but it is a long drive and we couldn't always put our lives on hold to visit her.
We moved in in December. And it has absolutely been one of the hardest times of my life. My husband and I are in dire straits financially (he is still struggling to find consistent work and my work is seasonal, we're just getting into my busy season but honestly, I don't make a lot of money). My grandma can still barely hear with her hearing aides in so I always have to raise my voice to talk to her and repeat myself multiple times. I spend hours of my time taking her to doctor's appointments (which is not an easy feat because she is wheelchair bound outside of the home), on the phone with doctors, picking up medicine, etc. I feel constant pressure to make sure she cared for. Overall she is a pleasant person but she is also a master of Italian Catholic guilt and passive aggressiveness. There is no one else to help us. I feel like I am slowly dying inside little by little every day.
So if you've made it this far, here is where I am looking for reassurance. We have to go back to our home state multiple times this summer for family obligations and my work (I am a wedding photographer and contracted to photograph weddings this summer back home). For example, at the end of May, we have to be gone for over 2 weeks to go to multiple graduations of nieces and nephews, open houses, etc. And I feel extremely guilty for leaving.
Here is more about my grandma and her current status for context:
Here are the things we have set in place to help care for her in our absence:
So my question is this: is this enough? Can I leave her and not feel guilty? I've spent countless hours and tears struggling with this question.
(Thank you to all of you who read all this and my prayers are with you on your own caregiving journeys!)
