Cardston, Alberta--(Newsfile Corp. - May 10, 2024) - American Creek Resources Ltd. (TSXV: AMK) (OTCQB: ACKRF) ("the Corporation" or "American Creek") is pleased to announce that crews from JV partner Tudor Gold are on site preparing camp and drill locations for the upcoming 2024 exploration program at the flagship Treaty Creek Project, located in the Golden Triangle of Northwest British Columbia. Two diamond drills were mobilized to the project on May 7th and 8th and drilling commenced on May 9th.
Phase 1 of the 2024 exploration program is expected to consist of approximately 10,000 meters (m) of diamond drilling at the Goldstorm Deposit. The primary objective of the Phase 1 drill program is to expand and upgrade the recently released Mineral Resource Estimate (news release dated April 8, 2024). Several drill holes have been designed as step-out drilling to the high-grade Supercell One (SC-1) system identified in 2023 (news release dated February 1, 2024). Supercell One is a gold dominant, quartz-sulphide, breccia-hosted structural corridor open to the northwest, north and east.
Previous drilling results from Supercell One include the following high-grade gold intercepts:
  • GS-23-176-W1: 15.00 m @ 15.64 grams/tonne (g/t) AuEQ (14.89 g/t gold (Au), 4.72 g/t silver (Ag), 0.60% copper (Cu))
  • GS-22-134: 25.50 m @ 9.96 g/t AuEQ (9.66 g/t Au, 1.23 g/t Ag, 0.24% Cu)
    • Including 4.50 m @ 20.86 g/t AuEQ (20.61 g/t Au, 1.50 g/t Ag, 0.20% Cu)
  • GS-23-179: 12.00 m @ 10.07 g/t AuEQ (9.78 g/t Au, 1.35 g/t Ag, 0.23% Cu)
Click the following links to view the corresponding SC-1 plan view map and drill sections.
Drilling will take place from two drill pads that were built last fall in preparation for this program. One drill rig is positioned just beyond the northern limit of known mineralization and the second rig is located at the northeastern boundaries of the Goldstorm Deposit. Drilling will focus on an area located between 200-250 m northeast of the current Mineral Resource limit.
  • Diamond Drill 1 is to be mobilized to Pad 12 (Section A) to complete three holes. Drill holes 12A and 12B will further test the 100 m down-dip extension of the CS-600 domain and the projection of the SC-1 system to the north and at depth. Drill hole 12C is an infill hole, testing the continuity and following up on the impressive results from drill holes GS-23-176-W1 (1.23 g/t Au, 2.93 g/t Ag, 0.12% Cu over 601.5 m) and GS-23-179 (1.16 g/t Au, 2.25 g/t Ag, 0.19% Cu over 223.5 m). Our planned hole 12C is estimated to intersect a distance of approximately 140 m east of GS-23-176-W1 and 120 m west of GS-23-179.
  • Diamond Drill 2 is to be mobilized to Pad 13 (Section B), currently the furthest northeast step-out on the deposit to date, to complete four drill holes. All four drill holes are targeting the northeast extension of the CS-600 domain and the nested SC-1 system in a regularly spaced drill fence. Drill holes 13A and 13B are to target a northward 200-m step-out of the lower CS-600 domain to the northwest and east of drill hole GS-23-179 by approximately 120 m. Drill holes 13C and 13D are designed to increase drilling density and potentially upgrade the resource category from Inferred to Indicated in the CS-600 and DS5 domains, laterally and at depth.
Ken Konkin, President & CEO of Tudor Gold**, commented:** "We are very excited to begin the 2024 diamond drill hole program well beyond the known northern and northeastern limits of the Goldstorm Deposit. I would like to congratulate our field crews for completing a safe and efficient start-up of the program which is designed to pierce areas that have been identified as high-grade gold targets in the newly identified Supercell One (SC-1) breccia system. Three wide-spaced drill holes have previously intersected a tectonic structural corridor which hosts fine-grained visible native gold identified in drill hole GS-22-134 with 20.86 g/t AuEq over 4.5 m (20.61 g/t Au, 1.5 g/t Ag, 0.20% Cu) within 25.5 m of 9.96 g/t AuEQ (9.66 g/t Au, 1.23 g/t Ag, 0.24% Cu). Subsequent exploration drilling intersected the same auriferous, hydrothermal, late-stage breccia zone with drill holes GS-23-176-W1 with 15.64 g/t AuEQ over 15.0 m (14.89 g/t Au, 4.72 g/t and Ag, 0.60% Cu) and GS-23-179 with 10.07 g/t AuEq over 12.0 m (9.78 g/t Au, 1.35 g/t Ag and 0.23% Cu). These three holes identified a geological target that occurs along a 400-m down-dip projection near the upper contact area of the CS-600 domain.
"In addition to testing the SC-1 high-grade breccia, the proposed Phase 1 drill holes are designed to expand and convert much of the inferred mineralization within the CS-600 and DS5 domains that is estimated to contain approximately six million ounces of gold-equivalent resource (Inferred) grading 1.25 g/t AuEq. Our concept is to add as much high-grade ounces to our current Estimated Mineral Resource of 26.9 million ounces of 1.19 g/t AuEq. With the completion of this year's program, we expect to publish a Preliminary Economic Assessment of our Goldstorm Deposit planned for release in late Q1 or early Q2 2025."
Darren Blaney, President & CEO of American Creek Resources, states: "The 2024 drill program has the potential to be the most significant one yet. Every year, as Tudor has drilled further north, the grades have continued to increase. Nowhere is this more evident than in the high-grade SC-1 system. We are confident that the overall scale and grade of the Goldstorm deposit will continue to increase through this year's drilling and are excited about the prospects of the high-grade supercells, including the SC-1 system."

2024.05.12 17:10 aquariummel When my doctors gave up, I turned to an online second opinion program. Now I'm (physically) back to normal.

TLDR: There are online second opinion programs that, for a fee, collect and review your medical records and provide answers to questions that your regular doctors may not be equipped to answer.
I mentioned this program in a comment that garnered some interest, so here's my story:
A few years back I came down with a severe headache one day that never went away. From that point on I also suffered from extreme fatigue, orthostatic intolerance, and a host of other symptoms. I was diagnosed in turns with “just stress”, Long Covid, “just stress”, ME/CFS, and “just stress”. While some of these diagnoses fit my symptoms, none of them came with effective treatment or symptom management. I wasn't taken seriously from the start.
I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something unusual about my headache.
Two years in I lost my job and health insurance, so I needed a new medical team. The new neurologist refused to even look at my imaging. She wanted to keep trying migraine treatments for my not-migraine. To say I was livid was an understatement. As I left the appointment I started frantically googling to find someone, anyone, to take another look at my imaging.
That’s when I came across the Stanford Second Opinion Program.
Here’s how it worked when I signed up (*in late 2022):
  1. I paid $700. The fee hasn’t changed as of this posting. This was a lot for me. $700 for a PDF? That felt like a gamble. Spoiler alert: it was worth it.
  2. I filled out questions about my existing diagnoses, contact info for the hospitals I'd been to, and details about my symptoms.
  3. I had a phone appointment with a Nurse Practitioner from the facilitating program, Included Health. They were very kind and well-informed. I will note (and they make this clear when signing up): you do not talk to the specialist directly. They do not become your doctor.
  4. The NP helped me come up with five questions to pass along to the Stanford “medical expert”. That phrasing made me nervous. I kept thinking, my brother is technically a medical expert, but as an EMT he has no business reading brain MRIs. Turns out they paired me with a world-renowned neurologist. *It looks like they've since updated the term to 'physician specialist'.
  5. The five questions could be complex. The NP helped me pack multiple questions into one. I ultimately submitted four questions.
  6. Nearly a month passed as they collected my various records, including test results and imaging. This was longer than the expected turnaround, but it was worth the wait.
  7. The final product was a PDF with a brief bio of the specialist they paired me with and, of course, the answers to my questions. The neurologist caught signs of spontaneous intracranial hypotension on my existing MRI.
I took the report to my GP. It was like a golden ticket. She referred me to a CSF leak program that also happened to be with Stanford. My “just stress” turned out to be a spontaneous CSF leak. I received a blood patch and have recovered, at least physically, and I am extremely grateful for it. I feel so fortunate.
(Mentally I'm pretty messed up from my years of illness, but I still feel beyond lucky. Living with chronic illness is harder than anyone will give us credit for. I want to acknowledge how hard we must fight to survive.)
This isn't the only program of its kind but it's the one I used. I hadn't heard anything about these programs before I used one so I'm hoping this can reach someone who can benefit from it as much as I did.
I linked it in my post but here it is if you want to copy/paste: https://stanfordhealthcare.org/second-opinion/overview.html

2024.05.12 16:15 PoisonedWhispers [Part 2] An analysis of the behaviour that leads to misinformation on the subreddit and in general; methods to curb this; and other malarkey.

The Short Version can be found here.

Part 1 can be found here.

Example 5 - There's more to a BBC YouTube title

Returning to this dastardly subreddit, for my next example, points 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 are relevant. OP provided a screenshot of a BBC YouTube title, stating: "Israeli hit squad dressed as doctors kill Palestinians in hospital." Per point 2, by failing to immediately link to the video, or immediately mention what the video contains, folk could come away with the conclusion that the BBC never reports that these were militants. In other words, some might believe that the misreporting here extends past the video title, when it does not, and this could be avoided by providing salient details sooner rather than later. This submission was made during the temporary ban, and I thought it was interesting enough as a case study to come back to.

Example 6 - Oxfam's full position

For this submission/meme, points 1, 2, and 6 are relevant. I saw that we weren’t going to get good-faith engagement with the entirety of Oxfam’s position here on why they initially opposed airdrops, and I attempted to outline the full extent of their views so that it can be critiqued appropriately. This meme is not too dissimilar from some Twitter leftist fixating on one short clip of Destiny during one of his heated gamer moments; his actual positions aren’t being engaged with, and it’s intellectually dull. There’s more to Destiny’s positions than a twenty-second clip; there’s more to Oxfam’s position than the one tweet. The fact of the matter is that there’s a long series of tweets here, and while the tweet OP chose to highlight is risible, is dumb, and is insufferable, we are more than capable on this subreddit in being more nuanced and fair when it comes to our criticism.
As I highlight, there were some concerns here that were not entirely unreasonable. At the time of my comment, there weren’t yet any reports on injuries due to airdrops. These reports appeared in the following days and weeks, where Gazans were killed when a parachute in an airdrop failed to deploy, and some drowned in their attempts to retrieve parcels that landed in the sea. Retrospectively, I wouldn't say that aid should not have been airdropped merely because it would result in these deaths, but a fair assessment of Oxfam here at the time should have taken these concerns into account.
Oxfam’s associate director also endorses a Twitter thread where some prescriptions are given on how ought this aid delivery be facilitated. He recommends that the Gaza port be reopened, and to open more crossings. The Biden administration recognized that airdrops would not sufficiently alleviate the problem of being unable to get sufficient quantities of aid distributed, and while the port was not reopened, Biden did announce that a temporary port would be built. Further, Israel approved the reopening of the Erez crossing.
The misinformation in OP’s post stems from the fact that folk will be disinterested in reading the twitter thread or any additional threads where they might have elaborated on views. Out of the thousands that interact with the post, a significant chunk will come away with the incorrect belief that Oxfam’s opposition to airdrops was merely due to what was stated in the meme. That is misinformation being propagated — not the most egregious, Hamas-esqe level of misinformation in the world, but misinformation nonetheless.

Example 7 - NYT: Bananas, or Cool as a Cucumber?

For our final example points 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are relevant; it’s the whole shebang. To give a quick recounting here, Hobbitfollower isn’t the only masochist that might, occasionally, choose to exclusively sort by new. When I saw the submission, I read the article, and I was a bit annoyed that the Jerusalem Post article doesn’t even link to the mission report that I was interested in reading. I searched for it, posted a link to the report in the very first comment of the thread as surely my fellow dggas would also like to read the report, and then I, well, read the report.
When I returned back to the thread, I quoted favourably from the mission report to support another individual's comment. (I would again quote from it in another thread the next day to highlight why Israel struggled to acquire forensic evidence.)
But as I scrolled down the thread I came across the subject of our example; 50 upvotes, no article linked, and clearly a charged comment. Consider the steps involved to truly engage with this comment; one would need to:
  • Click and read the article.
  • Search for the mission report.
  • Read the mission report (as some folk probably won’t wanna read 20 pages right off the bat).
  • Search for the NYT article; bypass the paywall (which is trivially easy nowadays but is still a barrier, and people are lazy); and read the article.
This is a very charged thread: there are going to be a large group of pro-Israel folk browsing this thread, frustrated and irate as bad memories are invoked of all the times they’ve had to deal with or seen pro-Hamas folk engaging in rape denialism. In much the same way a leftist sub is not going to be interested in a dispassionate analysis of an Israeli strike with high civilian collateral damage, this sub — at times — will struggle to calmly assess the subject matter. An expected behaviour isn’t necessarily the correct behaviour — the actions we believe one ought to take.
When a misleading tweet goes viral, the damage has already been done, as a considerable amount of people won’t see the subsequent Community Notes that might be slapped on it. Likewise, some of the thousands who see OP’s highly upvoted comment will think, “Oh, this has a lot of upvotes, I guess it must be true. How horrible of the NYT to frame this as a both sides issue”, and thus misinformation has spread. This incorrect belief will mold their perceptions of the NYT. When they encounter more reporting by the NYT on I-P in the future, they might even think back to this moment: “Ah, I remember when these bozos tried to say that the Israeli accusations were the same as the Palestinian accusations.”
I also referred to OP’s comment as disinformation. In every example discussed so far, I don't assume malicious intent. I just begin with the foundation that a mistake was made, and I don’t enmesh myself by throwing out accusations of lying. In this case, however, OP has indirectly acknowledged that I was correct, but they still haven’t bothered to edit their original comment. Once again, this comment is a really good example of point 1. I obviously also disagree with their conclusion, and the process by which they’re arriving at their conclusion is still very flawed — and other people are simply going to adopt their conclusion while not even attempting to reach there by their own independent assessment. If you see someone quote from an article, and they don’t even link it, and the comment is very charged, I would encourage y’all to seek out the article yourself; you may come away with a different interpretation.
I'm sure you've seen this meme before: "I'm just waiting for Destiny to comment on this so that I know what to think 😎." We meme about it, but there is, of course, an undercurrent of truth here, as we have confidence in Destiny's ability to research, and thus we feel comfortable adopting his beliefs and opinions. It's nice not having to do the research ourselves. Lazy fucks.
This applies to Reddit comments you see as well. Don't just adopt the conclusion of someone else because their beliefs align with yours and they're speaking with authority. Do the legwork yourself; be mindful of The Six Points; and you might find that someone on your own side is actually spreading misinformation, or is espousing an opinion that you disagree with.

Purgatory

I was perma-banned some time after my previous comment for a comment I made in a different thread. Before I get to that in the next fuck-me-who-knows-how-I'm-gonna-write-that-I'm-so-fucked section, I did want to bring up two final examples.

Example A - Haaretz and Amputations

For Example A, points 1, 3, 4, and 5 are relevant. Obviously, I can’t attempt point 6 because I was banned. Now, I actually agree with OP as I share their skepticism towards the notion that these amputations are “routine”, but referring to the article as a "fake story" is too strong, and, as always, their process here is flawed. The claims they make here about the Haaretz article and CNN article are misleading, but it is immediately upvoted because it feels right, particularly because the first reply just poisons the well. Haaretz did not speak to an anonymous person, they are reporting on a letter they have seen written by a doctor and sent to senior Israeli officials; the doctor did not justify the claim that the event is routine based on having seen only two amputations, that's merely the amputations they saw in the week they wrote the letter (but the phrasing here is ambiguous, as the doctor could be referring to the handcuff injuries as being the "routine" event); and the IDF did not confirm or deny all the claims, but gave a fairly standard, boilerplate response instead. The misleading claims in this comment was eventually addressed — and, as I’m sure you’re irritated by the repetition by now, the goal of this post is to turn this “eventually” into an “immediately.”

Example B - Wikipedia and Devious Editing

For Example B, points 1 and 5 are relevant. I want to be very careful with this one as I don't want to be misconstrued. Similar to the previous example, I mostly agree with their conclusion that these Wikipedia pages can be very flawed, and partisan editors can tarnish the objectivity that we wish could be maintained across all articles. However, you know the drill by now, point 1. There’s much to be said about the infamous “24-hour window” debacle, and I made a submission a while ago on this. I think there are parts of this story that both the pro-Palestine and pro-Israel crowd get wrong — but the latter is generally more correct, and I would agree with OP here that the information here is, at the very least, incomplete.
However, per point 5, the articles they are critiquing are not linked. How many people here actually sought out the two articles referenced here? As I’ve already demonstrated, we know how many misleading or false claims you can get away with before they’re finally addressed. A user in that thread made some edits to the contentious lines in question in the Wikipedia article. This was the Wikipedia article at the time OP’s comment was made. OP quotes this section:
Prior to the raids, Israel had called for the more than a million people living in the north half of the Gaza Strip to evacuate during a 24-hour window, while Hamas instructed those residents to stay put.
The two citations here are a Reuters article and a Politico article. The Politico article is arguably redundant, but it’s not being cited because it’s supposed to make a statement about a 24-hour window; it’s being cited to support the statement about Hamas:
Hamas is complicating the situation, urging residents to stay in their homes.
The Reuters article also mentions this:
“We tell the people of northern Gaza and from Gaza City, stay put in your homes, and your places," Eyad Al-Bozom, spokesman for the Hamas Interior Ministry, told a news conference.
Contrary to what OP said, both articles use the word “evacuation” at some point. The first part of the quote from the Wikipedia page is supported by this statement in the Reuters article:
On Friday Israel gave more than a million residents of the northern half of Gaza 24 hours to flee to the south to avoid an onslaught.
In a follow-up comment OP claims that the archived link, which pulled the earliest version of the Reuters article available, does not support the line. This seems to have been an error on the part of whoever chose this hyperlink. When the Wikipedia article first mentions calls for evacuation, this was how the Reuters article cited looked like at the time; regardless of the veracity of the claim, the article did support what the Wikipedia page mentions.
To reiterate, OP is completely correct about this pernicious problem with Wikipedia. It’s just that in this example, I don’t think it qualifies as a case of those darn pro-Palestine editors back at it again. The nuanced position here is pretty difficult to get to, and I don’t think the editors wrote this line in the interest of distorting the truth to serve their own side.
Example B.5: A better yet slightly flawed post on Wikipedia and Euro-Med Monitor
This post about how Hamas supporters are influencing Wikipedia does better in terms of substantiating their claims — but there are issues here that I would have loved to address, and there is a good critique on OP’s prescriptions that was buried at the bottom. Unfortunately, OP has been suspended from Reddit. If you’re reading this mate, call me 🥺.
There are a lot of hyperlinks in OP’s post (lol, sez fucking me), and it’s completely reasonable that someone won’t feel inclined to click every single one; that’s not an expectation I would ever demand. From going through the post, there are several small critiques I would have made (e.g., while I don’t believe the Mondo article should have been cited, OP claims that in the article, “The only people criticizing Wiesel here is the author of the opinion piece.” FWIW, the article does reference and cite a Haaretz article, and a Foreign policy article, both of which levy criticism against Wiesel), but I’m just going to focus on this line:
In fact, it is owned by a man named Ramy Abdu, who is a literal Hamas lobbyist.
If you’re going to call someone a literal Hamas lobbyist, that is definitely a link I’m clicking. What I know about Abdu is simply what I can assume about his beliefs from various tweets I’ve seen by him over the past several months; but I’ve never looked into their background other than being aware of their position at EMM. Upon opening the link I see… a 2013 article about Clare Short. From reading the article, it looks like OP missed some steps in outlining how they arrived at their conclusion, and I saw only a few people inquiring about this. To fill in the steps on what I presume OP wanted to say, from the article they linked:
Moshe Ya’alon, former IDF chief of staff, outlawed the Council for European Palestinian Relations (CEPR) – a Belgian non-profit organisation that lobbies on behalf of the Hamas-led Gaza Government – using emergency defence regulations.
I haven’t looked into CEPR, and they obviously disputed the lobbying charge; I’m just going to take the claim at face-value. In 2011, Abdu was assistant director of the CEPR, and still held a position there for several years. They've since left the organization, but per point 1, if this is how OP arrived at the conclusion that Abdu is a “literal Hamas lobbyist”, I think it could use a bit more work, with additional clarification on what they mean by lobbyist here. I’m sure they can do it, it just happened to not be in this post.
I'm not going to harp on about point 5 here as I only apply that to incidents where a claim is made; one or two articles are linked; and then no one reads them, assuming the claim must be true as long as articles are provided. I would literally never make the prescription that if someone writes an effort-post, we must click every hyperlink to fact-check. I mean, it's not like I would have any other motivation for saying that... sweats profusely 🙄
Just to make one final point on EMM, it is a rubbish outlet, and any time I encounter one of their articles, I roll my eyes knowing I’m going to get some outlandish claim where I can find fuck-all for corroboration from other outlets. However, sometimes there is corroboration, where EMM was the first to notice that the IDF labelled a bicycle as an RPG in the drone footage they published, and then the NYT confirmed the finding (except for the other stupid claim made in the tweet.) But anyways, these moments are astronomically rare.

Example C - A Mysterious Royal Website (What a weaselly little --)

Okay, I lied, one final example as it’s interesting to see how people here parse articles and headlines, but before I address the example, let me talk about Reuters headlines.
Reuters headlines
They’re not always consistent on this front, but I generally like how Reuters writes their headlines. A Reuters headline will often contain the phrase “US says”. [30] [31] [32] What I’m expecting in the article when I see a headline containing this phrase is some official representing the Biden administration outlining what their particular policy, position, belief, etc., is on whatever the subject matter may be, or some action they took which makes it clear what their position is. In the given examples, we have statements from Biden, Blinken, the US military, and so on. Sometimes the US officials remain anonymous, sharing information in private briefings.
If there isn’t an official statement by the US available on a matter, the headline might use the phrase “source says” to talk about ongoing developments. [33] [34] “Reuters will use unnamed sources where necessary when they provide information of market or public interest that is not available on the record. We alone are responsible for the accuracy of such information.” [35]
Relevant to Example C, Reuters uses the same guidelines for “Saudi Arabia says” [36] [37] and “sources say” for information relevant to Saudi Arabia. [38]
Israeli outlets, A royal family website, and Saudi sources: An amusing chain of events
Keeping the previous section in mind, when I came across this version of a Jerusalem Post article posted to this subreddit, you can imagine what I’m expecting here — particularly because this would be momentous news to see Saudi Arabia make a public statement that they helped defend Israel. Instead, we get reporting on what Saudi Arabia’s royal family said on their website, and what a source connected to the Saudi royal family told KAN, another Israeli outlet — and we don’t get links to either of them. If there was no statement on the royal family’s website, this would have been a bad headline to write based on what this source said. Unfortunately for the JP, there is no official website for Saudi Arabia’s royal family. You’ll see in the current version, they remove the reference to that website, and also add the following line:
The Al Arabiya news site said sources had informed it that Saudi Arabia had not participated in the interception of Iranian drones and missiles.
Here’s the article by the Saudi state-owned outlet, which is essentially their mouthpiece to deny the ongoing report. I24news, however, didn’t get the memo:
Saudi Arabia publicly acknowledges role in defending Israel against Iranian attack
While Jordan had openly disclosed its role in the defensive maneuver, Saudi Arabia's acknowledgment came in the form of a summary on its official website
When I first saw the JP submission on this subreddit, I bookmarked it for later to come back to and find the sources, as it’s not the first time I’ve seen dubious reporting from KAN news. I was also curious if anyone in the thread was going to highlight some of the discrepancies in the article, and, well, shoutout to this keen reader! Fact-checking the JP article slipped my mind, but thanks to a comment I saw on another subreddit, they correctly pointed out that the website referenced was not affiliated with the Saudi royal family, and thus the article the JP and other Israeli outlets had presumably read should not have been taken as an official statement. Christ, this is obvious from the very first line:
A source from the Saudi royal family, who prefers anonymity, converses with the Kan public broadcaster. The individual subtly acknowledges Saudi Arabia’s supposed involvement in thwarting Iranian attack drones bound for Israel the previous evening, citing that Saudi Arabian airspace automatically intercepts “any suspicious entity”.
The same figure takes a swing at Iran, accusing them of instigating a conflict in Gaza. This, they suggest, is a deliberate attempt to unravel the progress established towards normalizing relations with Israel, as per Kan’s report.
In the words of the official, as put forth by Kan, “Iran is a nation that endorses terrorism, and the world should have curtailed it much earlier.”
Why would the official Saudi royal website use an anonymous source within the royal family to make their public announcement, and why would they quote what the official said to an Israeli outlet?!
It’s fascinating to see this play out: the supposed source spoke to Kan News; Houseofsaud presumably sees this and makes an article on the Kan segment; the JP sees this article and the segment, poorly reads it, and then cites it and the original Kan segment; outlets like the Daily Wire pick up on the story from the JP; and then on it goes, spreading like wildefire, before the Saudis take note (“oh fuck, oh fuck, where are these reports coming from?”) and disseminate a message denying that any “official” website publicly confirmed their involvement. The Saudis are involved, and they’re keeping tight-lipped about the extent of their involvement.
Just to quote one more line from the i24news article because it’s shockingly poor:
The post subtly hinted at Saudi Arabia's involvement in intercepting suspicious entities in its airspace, highlighting the kingdom's proactive stance in safeguarding regional stability.
This is written based on this line from the HouseofSaud article:
A source from the Saudi royal family, who prefers anonymity, converses with the Kan public broadcaster. The individual subtly acknowledges Saudi Arabia’s supposed involvement in thwarting Iranian attack drones bound for Israel the previous evening, citing that Saudi Arabian airspace automatically intercepts “any suspicious entity”.
It’s the individual/source who is being subtle, not the post itself as i24 news mentions.
Anyways, this is not a case of misinformation by the subreddit. There's nothing wrong with posting a JP article, and this is easily the least offensive Example, but point 5 is nicely relevant here. I thought y'all might find this to be interesting, particularly because some people probably still believe that Saudi Arabia has publicly acknowledged their involvement, and maybe that could be someone reading this section. It's also another example where, because I’m banned, I can’t offer a bit of nuance. stares intently at 4THOT
It’s a shame Destiny didn’t finish reading the article, I’m curious what he would have said. He speculates that the report was from intelligence or monitoring, but moves on before finishing the article; it’s also the updated version of the article, without the tidbit about the Saudi royal family website.

Finito

I'm going to close out this section here. There's always more to include, more examples that demonstrate the aforementioned points, but I'd rather focus on my own comments instead of threads where I was unable to contribute my thoughts. There's been a plethora of discourse here surrounding the campus protests, and maybe those are still ongoing if I manage to post this at a sooner date. For completely legitimate and fair justifications, all of these threads are going to be very charged; and maybe upon reading this post some of y'all might feel more inclined to analyze these situations dispassionately, mindful of cases where the reporting might not be the greatest.

Example D - A Late Fact-check (Still lying, dude!)

I fucking lied again, there’s more. Literally the day after I finished writing the above paragraph, a new example popped up that I can’t resist the temptation to include. Stop giving me material! As I spoke of above, the campus protests have resulted in a charged atmosphere on the subreddit, which means that this post stating that a “Jewish-Israeli family’s restaurant was targeted in a hate crime” is immediately catapulted to the front page. The biggest problem here is that, per point 2, the presentation of the post led folk to believe that this was a recent event because OP had omitted the date this took place, and this led to one user to thoughtfully suggest that it might be worth setting up a GoFundMe to help the owners with the repairs.
To reemphasize the point I’ve made throughout this post, I’m looking to incentivise better behaviour to occur sooner. It took nearly 10 hours before one jolly chap came along to do the fact-check. Naturally, had I seen this post while browsing arnew, I would have done the same, and so would a couple other users here as well who are good for this sort of thing — and that's unfortunate that I’m saying a “couple” instead of “many.” There is no curiosity amongst everyone who interacted with this post to inquire into the event; not even something simple as requesting OP for an article. So folks, always ask for a source if OP doesn’t provide one just so you have a bit more context. (Also, I am fascinated with the anecdote OP attached to this post. Did they just make up their credentials?)

Example E - Hebrew Sources and False Confidence

This is a wonderful example to close out this section because it exemplifies so many of the problematic behaviours that I have demonstrated in this post. I was only made aware of this thread because a user here DM'd me a link to the thread. I will refer to the individual posting misinformation in the comments as "OP", and I'll refer to the submitter of the post by their username, Sylmd. The rebuttals to OP are excellent, and I will focus more on the behaviour here.
Sylmd posted a submission doing a quick lil' fact-check on a Destiny tweet, noting the fact that he seemed to have misread or misremembered a particular report. I say "seemed" here in case Destiny was referring to some other report or article he had read, but that seems unlikely as he has referenced this report in several of his debates, and the report was the subject of his previous tweets. Regardless, it was a small mistake, and apart from failing to immediately link the tweet and the report (link your sources you silly goose), Sylmd's post is civil, calm, and makes no accusations of malicious intent.
According to OP, Destiny was actually right, and 300+ IDF soldiers were in fact injured. Now, there's so much that is astonishingly problematic with OP's comment, and I gotta... mention it all! Sorry!
Naturally, they don't ever quote from their sources, which means it's on us to try and find the relevant sections. OP claims that the articles linked will demonstrate that 380 Israelis were injured -- despite the fact that Sylmd is obviously doing a fact-check on how many Israeli soldiers were injured, and that's literally the subject of Destiny's tweet.
Whatever, I'm sure the articles at least "discusses around 380 injuries"? Fuck no they don't! There's no mention of this figure anywhere, and OP somehow racks up 50 upvotes when they accuse Sylmd of lying after they correctly point this out. Did these people actually read the articles, find this magical 380 figure, and think, "Grrr, Sylmd you mendacious scumbag, I see through your Hamas propaganda." Sylmd was sitting at -31, one hour after the thread was made. (If you refer back to Example 2, you'll see that I felt compelled to make a submission when I saw a user was being downvoted for correctly pointing out that an article did not prove a particular claim.)
It gets worse. Apparently, you have to "click through all the links in these articles buddy." Well, okay, that's pretty elaborate, how silly of us not to realize this. OP wants us to open up nine Hebrew articles, translate them, and then tally up the number of casualties. Problem? Surely we get to the 380 figure if we click through all the hyperlinks in the article? Fuck no we don't! And even if we did, this is the most blisteringly cumbersome way to prove a claim. The sheer condescension in OP's comment is equivalent to that of a Twitter leftist: "It's not my job to educate you honey, you must read the literature."
So where does this mysterious figure come from? Well, as Sylmd correctly pointed out (before OP mentioned it), they are grabbing this figure from Hebrew Wikipedia. Sylmd doesn't provide a link to the article in question, so I will provide it here, and as you can see, the two articles that OP linked came from this Wikipedia page. I'm not convinced OP actually read either of these articles.
That's not all. They then linked a report in Hebrew in their edit. Where did they get this report from? It's not on the Wikipedia page, maybe this is something they have bookmarked? Nope, they got it from another user in the thread! After all is said and done, they still somehow racked up 270 upvotes for this awful rebuttal, and they were, "Proud to take a blast for defending the truth."
Do I even need to mention the points here? It's an authoritative comment; the linked articles give an "aura" of being correct; and there's confidence in all their comments.
To quote from Example 1:
Anyways, since I began this post it looks like the upvotes and downvotes on the original comment have since shifted. Mashallah. It's the behaviour I was describing before: all the low-effort garbage gets upvoted first, and then other people break the circlejerk and try to add nuance. But it would be nice if the nuance was added first and foremost without the need for tedious fact-checks.
That still holds true today.

Consistency and Principles

Do I only address misinformation from the pro-Israel side? Not that it should matter, but no, I will address misinformation from the pro-Palestine on this subreddit if I see it and I feel like addressing it. I was irritated to see muppets like Rob Rousseau spread conspiracies about a "suspicious link" between ISIS and Mossad, and I encountered a user here who was sprouting similar conspiratorial nonsense. You’ll notice that (1) I was blessed to be called a “Reddit pseudo intellectual libtard” (not wrong, not false, this hurts bro); and (2) I apply the exact same methodology here as I do for the examples of misinformation I've addressed elsewhere — which isn’t to say I’m doing anything commendable here. I just read the articles, trying to find the primary sources where relevant, and then see if the “reporting” accurately conveys what was said or written.
However, digging up the original source can be a time-consuming endeavour, and compounded by the fact that I might not speak the relevant language — which means that there was a case where I inadvertently made a comment containing misinformation. A couple months ago someone requested a steelman of the argument that Israel is conducting a genocide against Gazans; I offered one, and to support the case I used a misquote taken from a Bloomberg video which omitted a crucial part of Yoev Gallant’s statement: the reference to Hamas, and thus radically changing the context of the statement. I hold myself to the same principle when it comes to curbing misinformation, and I was more than content to edit my comment to ensure it did not propagate further than it already had.
Some of you eagle-eyed readers might recognize this Gallant quote, as it made a very marked appearance within… South Africa's genocide case against Israel. Here, that salient reference to Hamas is also omitted, and the accompanying footnote cites the same Bloomberg video that I did. As I wished in another reply, Bloomberg did indeed take the video down eventually. Now, I can be excused for my mistake as I’m not making the positive case outside of my steelman. For South Africa, this is unbelievably shoddy work when you're officially bringing a genocide case against another state.
Anyways, I've gone through many examples in this schizo-post, and it's entirely possible that I've made an error at some point; the irony is not lost on me. Feel free to point these errors out. I might not agree with your assessment, but I'm always willing to hear the arguments.

Prescriptions: The Six Points (Déjà vu)

I'm going to end with The Six Points because that's the focus of Part 1 and Part 2. As previously mentioned, this post is not intended to demonstrate that the misinformation the pro-Israel crowd spreads is as egregious as the misinformation the pro-Palestine spreads, whether in general or on this subreddit. While misinformation from the pro-Palestine crowd slips by every now and then on the subreddit, I would make the case that, generally speaking, it is quickly addressed. In my experience, however, I was finding quite a few cases of misinformation from the pro-Israel crowd were taking a concerning amount of time to be addressed; and in the interest of ensuring that it does get addressed in a more timely manner, I believe the following prescriptions would be helpful to keep in mind when browsing the subreddit:
  1. Value the process just as much — if not, more — than the conclusion.
  2. Be wary of how the presentation of information or the omission of pertinent information can lead to the inadvertent spread of misinformation.
  3. Be aware of how “charged” topics/threads lead to poor reasoning that lacks dispassionate analysis.
  4. Be aware of how pre-existing beliefs about an individual or organization alongside the usual biases leads to a reluctance to fact-check, where claims are taken at face-value because they feel right.
  5. Link the article. Read the article. (Thoroughly.)
  6. Redirect criticism to areas where it will be the strongest.

2024.05.12 11:33 Key-Talk-5171 On Paediatric Sex Trait Modification

What does the evidence say in favour of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for gender dysphoric youth? As we will see, it doesn't say much, at all. Systematic reviews are at the top of the evidence-based medicine pyramid, examining the literature in depth using non-biased, objective measures to determine its quality. We'll be looking at those, as well as what the guidelines for paediatric gender medicine are in some European countries. If you were to pick out countries that have an interest in deliberately misconstruing evidence to push an ideological narrative, these countries, some of the most progressive in the world, wouldn't even be in the hat.

Evidence

First, let's look at a systematic review funded by WPATH, you can't get any more pro trans than this. If any review were to find high quality evidence on these interventions, it would be this one. After finding studies that met certain inclusion criteria, they used prestigious Cochrane guidelines to evaluate their quality. For all outcomes but death by suicide, evidence was graded low, death by suicide evidence was graded insufficient. For a study funded by WPATH, this is the first indication that the evidence for these interventions is remarkably weak. We've all heard the phrase "do you want a living son or dead daughter?", and we now know it is based on no substantive evidence of any kind.
Next, there was a systematic review funded by the Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services (SBU) to construct guidelines for treating gender dysphoric youth in Sweden. They concluded;
GnRHa treatment in children with gender dysphoria should be considered experimental treatment of individual cases rather than standard procedure.
Swedish guidelines are as follows;
At group level (i.e. for the group of adolescents with gender dysphoria, as a whole), the National Board of Health and Welfare currently assesses that the risks of puberty blockers and gender-affirming treatment are likely to outweigh the expected benefits of these treatments
They say that using these treatments are only warranted in "exceptional" cases, whatever this means. They also state that these experimental treatments should only be offered within the context of a research setting, not standard treatment for gender dysphoria.
Both Swedish and Finnish guidelines state that psychosocial therapy as first line treatment for gender dysphoria, as well as looking at the presence of other mental health co-morbidities.
We also have a report from the Norwegian Healthcare Investigation Board (Ukom) which investigates systems and processes in healthcare, identifying factors that could have led, or could potentially lead, to harm for patients. This is regarding the evidence for sex trait modification in youth.
They say;
The knowledge base, especially research-based knowledge for gender-confirming treatment (hormonal and surgical), is deficient and the long-term effects are little known. This is especially true for the adolescent population where the stability of their gender incongruence is also not known. There is a lack of research-based knowledge on the treatment of patients with non-binary gender incongruence. In order to safeguard patient safety, Ukom considers it necessary to strengthen the knowledge base on gender incongruence and gender dysphoria, and to align the health service offering with the knowledge base.
Puberty delaying treatment (puberty blockers) and hormonal and surgical gender reassurance treatment for children and adolescents are defined as investigational treatment. This is especially important for teenagers with gender dysphoria.
Investigational treatment in this context means: all treatment where efficacy and safety are not sufficiently documented for the treatment to be included in the ordinary treatment offer. I.e. puberty blockers and CSH shouldn't be included in routine treatment for gender dysphoric youth. It isn't routine treatment because there is insufficient evidence that it is actually effective and that the benefits outweigh the risks.
Additionally, there is a German systematic review of the evidence that was released earlier this year, building upon the NICE reviews out of the United Kingdom performed a few years ago.
The available evidence on the use of PB and CSH in minors with GD is very limited and based on only a few studies with small numbers, and these studies have problematic methodology and quality. There also is a lack of adequate and meaningful long-term studies. Current evidence doesn’t suggest that GD symptoms and mental health significantly improve when PB or CSH are used in minors with GD. Psychotherapeutic interventions to address and reduce the experienced burden can become relevant in children and adolescents with GD.
The Bundesärztekammer (German Medical Association passed a resolution calling on the German Federal Government to restrict the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for under 18s to a controlled research setting only, aligning with Swedish and Finnish practice. They cite the reasoning;
The current medical evidence clearly states that puberty-blocking drugs (PB), cross-sex hormone treatments (so-called cross-sex hormone Administration [CSH]) and gender reassignment surgery (e.g. mastectomy) do not improve GI/GD symptoms or mental health in minors with GI/GD. These are irreversible interventions in the human body in primarily physiologically healthy minors who cannot give informed consent in the absence of evidence for such measures.
This is in direct opposition to pro-trans-affirming draft guidelines published by the smaller association AWMF, which is odd given the aforementioned systematic review showing no good evidence for sex trait modification of minors in treating GD. But even if these guidelines are finalised, the GMA resolution strongly signals a possibility that they won't be widely accepted.
So, to any person reading who is in favour of turning children into sterile, life-long medical patients, what's more likely, do the health authorities in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany and the UK all hate transgender people and want gender dysphoric youth to kill themselves, or are you simply the party who is wrong on this topic?

Safety

We have considered the evidence in favour of sex trait modification in youth to treat gender dysphoria, as we have seen, there is no good evidence that they produce improved mental health outcomes. First, it must be emphasised that there are no long-term longitudinal studies on children given puberty blockers to block normally timed puberty looking at effects that might arise in adulthood, there are none of this nature. We know that over 90% of kids who are treated with puberty blockers go on to receive cross-sex hormones which most probably results in permanent sterility, as there are no methods of fertility preservation. Meanwhile, most kids not given medication desist in their dysphoria over time. This lends credence to the view that puberty blockers "lock in" a certain gender identity, and thus the hypothesis that blockers are "buying time to think" is false, as they almost always go on to take cross sex hormones. Children are not mature enough to give up future fertility entirely in return for unsupported mental health benefits.
Since nearly all participants started GnRHa after turning 13 and underwent a thorough diagnostic assessment before treatment was started, it is likely that most people starting GnRHa experienced sustained GD. Still, one cannot exclude the possibility that starting GnRHa in itself makes adolescents more likely to continue medical transition
https://academic.oup.com/jsm/article/20/3/398/7005631?login=false
Profound effects on future sexual function may even occur when puberty is paused and later allowed to proceed, since the precise timing of hormone exposure during the peripubertal window is a determinative factor in adult sexual function
There may be a possible underlying cause for why it is practically guaranteed for children that receive puberty blockers to go on to receive cross sex hormones, which collectively entail permanent castration. We know that the inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus (IFOF) has been implicated in playing a predominant role in the neural basis of visual/body perception, and that alterations in this area of the brain pays a role in the pathophysiology of anorexia nervosa. Interestingly, even after for controlling for sexual orientation, which we know can cause brain-sex atypicality in the case of homosexuality (and thus confounding for gender dysphoric persons), studies have shown reduced white matter integrity in the IFOF, the same area of the brain that is altered in cases of anorexia nervosa. It has been reported that a dose dependent inverse relationship exists between amount of puberty blocker given to gender dysphoric adolescents and white matter integrity in the IFOF, in essence, this may be a potential mechanism as to why puberty blockers solidify the gender dysphoria.
There is also a concern in regards to brain maturation as a result of adolescent sex hormones, neural circuits to do with executive functioning are thought to be rewired during this critical period of puberty. If this is case, brain maturation during puberty may be temporarily or permanently disrupted as a result of these puberty blockers. This could have significant long term neuropsychological consequences including impact on the ability to make complex risk-laden decisions. Because we have no long term studies on the usage of puberty blockers, extreme uncertainty about its long-term effects make prescribing such drugs undesirable, especially given the fact that no good evidence exists for their efficacy.

2024.05.12 03:56 transcendental1 Jacques Vallee’s Recent Book Seems to Corroborate Part of the Eric Davis - Thomas Wilson Memo

So for those that don’t know, the Comptroller General of the United States of America is the head of the Government Accountability Office (or GAO). GAO is known as the US Congress “watchdog”.
https://www.gao.gov/about/what-gao-does/hundred-years-of-gao
GAO audits federal agencies for Congress.
In Jacques Vallee’s most recent book Forbidden Science 5, he writes this:
Forbidden Science 5: Pacific Heights Jacques Vallee
“Hummingbird. Friday 24 September 2004.
Jim Westwood, in Virginia, has come up with new data, looking up archives and “inspecting government documents. He’s close to Fred Durant (of the old Robertson panel) and his contemporaries. He’s uncovered a third official trail into the secret UFO project through Charles Bowsher, Comptroller General of the United States under President Reagan from 1981 to 1996. He may be one of the four “iron posts” beyond Sheehan and Wilson. Bowsher found a crashed UFO program during a massive audit of classified projects: “Less than a handful of officials knew about it.”
In the period 1984-85, Bowsher uncovered a bizarre special access program coverup which surely violated every classification, executive order, regulation, and Congressional rule.
They contemplated turning it over to Justice for prosecution, but “a powerful person in DoD quenched it.” The program, according to the reviewers, had to do with an exotic, non-Earthly vehicle.”
In the Eric Davis Thomas Wilson Memo posted on Congress.gov, similarly this is stated:
TW: Yes, same 3
Security director (NSA-retired, a Cl expert) Program Director Corporate Attorney
EWD: Why that phrase or name?
TW: I asked; they said they were formed out of necessity ot protect themselves after a near disaster in the past almost blew their cover - something ot do with an agreement that was reached with a couple of Pentagon SESs overseeing SAPs in those days - were vague about when that was.
EWD: What was this?
TW: Let me finish!
Some kind of threat was leveled ot blow the lid of them so they backed down and let the investigator in to complete his job
EWD: What happened with that?
TW: He was officialy briefed, given tour, shown their program.
https://www.congress.gov/117/meeting/house/114761/documents/HHRG-117-IG05-20220517-SD001.pdf
We know thanks to John Greenwald’s FOIA publication that there is now an active DOJ investigation:

This seems to me to corroborate the EWD TW Notes. Thoughts?

Dr. Pierres "Gang Stalking: Real-Life Harassment or Textbook Paranoia". Idiocy or Calculated Disinformation?
Dr. Pierre's first blog post on "gangstalking" is an easily recognized disinformation campaign designed to influence public opinion that these vile crimes are not happening and all these victims are suffering from delusions. Lets look at how he attempts to disinform his readers. Lets start with the title.
Gang Stalking: Real-Life Harassment or Textbook Paranoia?
At first it seems like a legitimate question, but in reality he created a false dilemma, a manipulation technique that presents us with a false premise right off the bat.
Disinformation is best dealt with the truth, So I'm just going to shell his bullshit dead with truth.. Dr. Pierre is well versed in disinformation as he is featured on this Cambridge Disinformation Summit webinar. The Cambridge Disinformation Summit is attempting to draw different disciplines together to combat disinformations current power to influence and manipulate us. Dr Pierre puts forth that "the antidote" to "bullshit thinking" is "analytical thinking." Lets see if his technique works against his disinformation.
An early goal of MKULTRA was to identify techniques to publicly discredit people. Modern technologically makes it possible to expand the original goals on a massive scale.
From the original mk documents this has been identified as a goal of one of its sub projects.
Discovery or the following materials and methods: that will promote illogical thinking and impulsiveness to the point where the receiver would be discredited in public, increase the frequency of mentaion and perception, prevent or counteract the effects of alcohol, promote signs and symptoms of recognized diseases in a reversible way so they can be used for malingering and produce physical disablement like paralysis.

Part 1: The paranoid reality of "targeted individuals."📷 www.psychologytoday.com
Reports of “gang stalking" (a.k.a. "gang-stalking" or "gangstalking") began emerging at least 15 years ago..
Poisoner in Chief: Sidney Gottlieb and the CIA Search for Mind Control is a 2019 book by The New York Times journalist and historian[1] Stephen Kinzer. I repeatedly details how when eventually questioned by the US Congress and others Sydney Gottlieb and other conspirators stated they did such heinous disturbing acts because they were extremely fearful the Russians and Chinese would master "mind control" first, thus winning the Cold War. They used fear to justify torturing, completely and permanently devastating and destroying the minds and lives of innocent victims while also murdering, after torture, many enemy captives.
The attack on 911 may be what sparked the new chapter in this fraudulent pseudoscience criminal torturous failed vile bullshit.
There is no justification for unjustifiable actions.
by self-described “targeted individuals” (“T.I.s”) claiming to be followed, surveilled, harassed, and otherwise victimized by unknown forces wielding high-tech weapons of “mind control.” Since then, much more has been written about this phenomenon, especially over the past few years, with national attention devoted to a few notable cases of violence and mass shootings perpetrated by people identifying as T.I.s.1
What we see here is the introduction to his disinformation. It identifies the targets to be discredited. Targeted Individuals, high tech weapons of mind control, notable cases of violence and mass shootings perpetrated by people identifying as T.I.s, as well as the growing number mainstream and highly respected journalism pieces that have come out exposing it while giving sympathy and empathy to its victims.
Dr. Pierre's first article is a great example of discrediting at work. Discrediting uses psychological techniques to manipulate peoples thoughts and opinions on targeted topics. A powerful discrediting technique is to mix completely unbelievable claims with the legitimate ones targeted to be discredited.
Discrediting is simple and can be accomplished in multiple ways. You can manipulate the victims themselves to make statements that are clearly unbelievable (more about how this is done later), conspirators in this crime can pretend to be victims and post ridiculous claims, conspirators can create cheesy unbelievable websites that promote wholly unbelievable conspiracies along side real ones targeted and they employ legitimate trained professionals and journalists to publish media that promotes the desired public opinion. Or you can just blog I guess.
As its name states, MK's primary goal is mind control. If you believe that this program is not possible or is not currently operating due to associated unbelievable claims that are impossible.. congratulations you have been mind controlled. You need to distinguish between fact and fiction
This blog post uses language that has been intentionally highly biased. TI's, gangstalking, mind control and M2K to name a few. My suggestion is that victims consider dropping some of these terms. Language is so significant, it's how we think, mentally define and examine our experiences, it defines our personal realities and it can be manipulated. Biasing language is a very powerful technique to manipulate people that are exposed to it. These terms have been intentionally biased with unbelievable conspiracy and mental health accusations. My take is drop their biased language.

What Is Biased Language?

Biased language refers to words and phrases that are prejudiced, offensive, and hurtful. An explanation and examples show how to avoid such language.📷 www.thoughtco.com We are not individuals who are targeted, we are torture victims. We are not being gang stalked, we are victims of long running organized crime who's forefathers are Nazi pigs, Japanese war criminals, and Chinese political brain washing.
Its not harassment, its hard core covert torture.
Disinformation is used to purposefully manipulate public opinion. In this case it's an attempt at damage control. When they get caught, the world will know they are monsters. No one will be on their side, not even the other monsters. So they will do anything to discredit victims and accounts of the horror, misery and torture that they are doing.
By way of summary, T.I.s typically describe living in a state of constant fear, seeing evidence of being followed by unmarked police cars in every black SUV that drives by, of being zapped by “extremely low-frequency” (ELF) radiation or “Voice to Skull” (V2K) technology in every tingling sensation or bodily ache, and of malevolent intentions in other people’s every gesture.
The false dilemma offers harassment or delusion as explanations.
This manipulation attempts to minimize the fact that it is major hard core psychological and significant physical torture, it goes on relentlessly, interminably for fucking years and is committed against innocent civilians including children. Thats 24/7 for years and is intended to force a victim "to a state a state of antagonistic estrangement. He is not totally estranged from the environment, because even antagonism is a form of contact; but he is totally cut off from the essential succor of affectionate communication and relatedness, without which he can not survive. And at the same time his increasing self betrayal, sense of guilt, and loss of identity all join to estrange him from himself- or at least the self he has known. He contemplates the future with only hopelessness and dread. Literally and emotionally there seems to be no escape from this hermetically-sealed antagonism. As the assaults continue, and as they turn inward, he begins to experience one of the most primitive and painful emotions known to man, the fear of total annihilation.".. "This is the point where mental and physical interrogations break down. Some prisoners may be brought by their severe anxiety and depression to the point of suicidal preoccupations and attempts." (Lifton p70)
Victims face near constant torture, manipulation, sexual assault and harassment for very long periods. This is delivered verbally and physically; its delivered sonically and covertly. Its meant to utterly break you, destroy your identity, beliefs and obliterate your life. Conclusion of a never ending hell.
This causes a sustained inescapable hardcore traumatic experience. The delusions are a symptom, not the cause and harassment is the understatement of the century.
Prolonged trauma, from extreme periods of torture and harassment, results in paranoia, delusion, isolating and much more. Obviously, because of the heinous nature of these crimes they use an extremely covert delivery method. Victims often attribute it to RF or ELF and infrasound. Infrasound is almost impossible to shield from and currently very difficult to locate random small sources. It sure as fuck hurts and its sure as fuck make you sore as hell, after a couple days of infrasound physical torture you feel like you just climbed a 14 teener or unloaded three semi trailers solo or played a tournament of full check hockey. With repeated torture sessions the effects get worse.
Prolonged unavoidable unexplainable trauma and resultant PTSD can cause people to experience hypervigilance or even paranoia. Trauma requires the victim address the situation and deal with it. Being the victim of continuiose severe harassment and tourture will make anyone paranoid. A victim of MK is can't explain the unjust random trauma, but we are naturally compelled to do so. Paranoia is the result. Suggestion from the internet or the verbal assault can lead to paranoid delusions that are common among victims. When you are tortured constantly for no obsternable reason by covert means a victims mind is driven to and ultimately needs to make sense of what's happening to them.
Its trauma resolution and resolution of a very difficult problem easily leads to delusion. Dr. Pierre is well aware of this and presents his first reason for delusional beliefs as the psychological "need for certainty, control, closure." Victims psychologically need and are relentlessly driven to figure out the "who" and "why" and "how" these never-ending horrible crimes are being done to them. With the high tech covert torture of innocent civilians there are not a lot of logical reasons and this opens the doors to delusions and delusional implant as victims require the "certainty, control, closure" that any explanation provides. (31:26 CDS)
The resultant trauma induced delusions are a defense mechanism victims adopt or create to protect themselves from the brutal, continuous, unbearable, inescapable, inhumane and almost unendurable experience that is done to us.
2.2. Delusions as a shear pin According to the “shear-pin” account developed by McKay and Dennett (2009), some false beliefs that help manage negative emotions and avoid low self-esteem and depression can count as psychologically adaptive. McKay and Dennett suggest that, in situations of extreme stress, motivational influences are allowed to intervene in the process of belief evaluation, causing a breakage. Although the breakage is bad news epistemically, as the result is that people come to believe what they desire to be true and not what they have evidence for, it is not an evolutionary “mistake”, rather it is designed to avoid breakages that would have worse consequences for the person’s self-esteem and wellbeing. What might count as a doxastic analogue of shear pin breakage? We envision doxastic shear pins as components of belief evaluation machinery that are “designed” to break in situations of extreme psychological stress (analogous to the mechanical overload that breaks a shear pin or the power surge that blows a fuse). Perhaps the normal function (both normatively and statistically construed) of such components would be to constrain the influence of motivational processes on belief formation. Breakage of such components, therefore, might permit the formation and maintenance of comforting misbeliefs – beliefs that would ordinarily be rejected as ungrounded, but that would facilitate the negotiation of overwhelming circumstances (perhaps by enabling the management of powerful negative emotions) and that would thus be adaptive in such extraordinary circumstances. 📷The epistemic innocence of motivated delusions Delusions are defined as irrational beliefs that compromise good functioning. However, in the empirical literature, delusions have been found to have …📷 www.sciencedirect.comClick to expand...

Population vs. Sample Definitions, Differences & Examples

A population is the entire group that you want to draw conclusions about. A sample is the specific group that you will collect data from. The size of the📷 www.scribbr.com Duhh..
And victims with a higher resistance to "mind control" will appear quite normal, while victims devastatingly effected will elicit the tragic symptoms of this totally inhumane and unethical horror they are assaulted with. Also, people suffering from medical conditions, but who are not victims, will be included in unfiltered data. You have to figure out what is and what is not real.
But why is this going on all around the planet? Turns out trauma is very cultural and what is traumatic in culture A can be quite different from what is traumatic in culture B. I think they want to make sure they are the biggest piles of dog shit in every culture.
and of malevolent intentions in other people’s every gesture.
This symptom comes from the prolonged trauma. This reports on findings for victims of trauma after the fact. Because sustained severe trauma , that is continuously forced for years, hasn't been studied by any ethical scientist we have to settle for these humane results.*

Paranoia and post-traumatic stress disorder in the months after a physical assault: a longitudinal study examining shared and differential predictors Psychological Medicine Cambridge Core

Paranoia and post-traumatic stress disorder in the months after a physical assault: a longitudinal study examining shared and differential predictors - Volume 43 Issue 12📷 www.cambridge.org *unethical, nazi pig psyco fuctard want 2 bees can refer to their own personal notes
For example, the “who” is variably attributed to neighbors, ex-boyfriends, employers, police, and other law enforcement agencies, “the financial elite,” or less conventional sources, like Freemasons and space aliens. The “why” is often attributed to retaliation for ending relationships, acting as whistleblowers at work, political activism, having run-ins with the law, or being privy to secret information.
These are all attempts to begin to resolve the trauma. The interface also promotes the need to resolve the trauma by repeatedly triggering the victim with statements like "I can't believed you don't know who is doing this to you", "How is this even possible" and "why is this being done to you." The interface mixes in delusional suggestions to answer these questions. The real reason this is being done to them is they fit a profile that fulfills a part of a sample population created to reflect society as a whole and thats it. There are a few exceptions, but thats very rare.
If a delusional implant takes hold, then the more illogical the better for discrediting their reports. If they adopt the delusion its law enforcement then they are much less likely to report and seek help with them and this benefits the criminals.
Seemingly motiveless harassment is chalked up to being hapless victims of experimentation by government agencies testing new techniques of surveillance or mind control.
This is what it is, it may be private sector but its roots are in the government agencies thats work is kept secret and its motivation is the remote thought reform, brainwashing and control of individual victims.
If there’s a common thread to the accounts of gang stalking, it’s that T.I.s describe considerable suffering not only as a result of ongoing concerns about being harassed, but also from the experience of physical symptoms, like pain and “hearing voices,” and the significant social stigma associated with sharing their claims with family, friends, or mental health professionals who routinely dismiss them as “crazy.” As a result, T.I.s have found solace on the internet, where they share "war stories" and survival strategies with like-minded individuals who have similarly found themselves at the center of a vast conspiracy theory.
This is all true for once. People facing a common enemy or struggle often congregate together as in the 12 step groups. When you look at the devious nature of what we face its easy to see why its difficult to share with some people with out them being totally fooled by this program as thats what its designed to do.
And yes, a few real events in history, such as the CIA’s MK-Ultra “mind control” program and the FBI’s COINTELPRO surveillance program of the 1950s, have occurred, just as the modern-day mass manipulation of human behavior through social media is a reality in which we all now live.
This is the rebooted MK program, if it ever went away at all. Thats a fact.
But if you aren’t personally experiencing gang stalking, it’s hard for an outsider, much less a psychiatrist, to accept it as anything other than a textbook example of paranoia. Indeed, that’s been the conclusion of the few mental health researchers that have examined gang stalking to date. In 2006, Dr. Vaughn Bell and colleagues published an analysis of 10 online accounts of “mind control experiences” consistent with gang stalking (though they didn’t mention that word explicitly).2 When assessed by three independent psychiatrists, all of the accounts were classified as consistent with the evidence of a psychotic disorder
You have to stop trying to use the psychotic effects of severe trauma to discount that the trauma is happening.
n 2015, Drs. Lorraine Sheridan and David James conducted an analysis of 128 responses to a survey about stalking that similarly concluded that 100 percent of cases involving gang stalking by multiple coordinated individuals reflected paranoid delusions (in contrast, only 4 percent of those reporting stalking by a single individual were deemed to be delusional).3 In both of these studies, gang stalking claims were attributed to paranoia because they defied credulity, often due to the sheer amount of resources or level of coordinated organization that would be necessary to carry out what was claimed.
The need for sustained unexplainable trauma resolution creates a dynamic for delusion and easily accepted suggested delusion.
As a psychiatrist, it’s nearly impossible to disagree with those conclusions. Delusions are defined in psychiatry as “fixed, false beliefs,” with paranoia representing a classic version in which one believes they’re being followed, harassed, or otherwise persecuted. Vigilance—keeping an eye out for and being generally wary of potential threats—is normal and can transform into exaggerated hypervigilance under various conditions, such as having been an actual victim of violence. At the extreme, full-blown paranoia of delusional intensity can be understood as that same evolutionary warning system gone completely awry, to the point of seeing the evidence and believing that such threats are almost everywhere.
This was already explained, but to recap never-ending unresolvable trauma causes paranoia, hyper vigilance and leaves victims very vulnerable to delusion.
But digging deeper tells a different story. Many T.I.s report concerns not only about gang stalking but other common symptoms of mental illness, such as auditory hallucinations or voice-hearing and even less plausible beliefs, such as having “implants” inside their bodies that can control their thoughts or that people have been replaced by aliens. But even those with “pure” paranoia appear to display textbook examples of delusional thinking.
already explained. Victims have tried to explain how the tech works and years back implants could have been part of the solution, but now of course with the advent of technology in the civilian world victims recognize that no implant is needed to track someone.
First, there’s the unbelievably vast extent of what’s claimed… fleets of black SUVs with tinted windows, persecutors in disguise on every street corner, and futuristic secret technology being deployed from God knows where. Second, there’s a lack of any obvious or credible motive for the persecution…
Here he is giving a dose of the discrediting. The SUV are paranoia from the trauma. The tech is real.. and lol I don't think god has figured out where its coming from yet. It comes from speakers and an infrasonic microphone array and sound source triangulation software should solve this one finally.
futuristic secret technology being deployed from God knows where.
Nothing unbelievable about about "futuristic secret technology". It comes from infrasonic speakers or generators and infrasonic microphone array should easily triangulate the location of the sources.
… why would the CIA be devoting considerable resources to keep an “average Joe” under constant surveillance for years on end (note that paranoia and grandiosity—an exaggerated sense of self-importance—often go hand-in-hand)?
The surveillance is automated and done by a computer. No person is watching it all day. Certain thoughts and behaviors are tagged and logged for analysis if desired. This is clear as times you can do a certain behavior or think a certain thought and Alice will always make the same specific comment, indicating a grouping by the system.. you can sit there and just play with it entering in different thoughts and pay attention to its response. Its response is often a simple abusive statement the always conforms to the input groups.
As we are average joes.. and that goes for pretty much everyone on this planet. So what we all do and think is really pretty generic and boring in the end. Complete removal of privacy is very traumatic to victims as humans see privacy as a human right. Adopting grandiose delusions as reasoning why this is happening is a psychological defense mechanism to the trauma. In the end we are just a sample population for a inhuman unethical study of thought reform, behavior modification and attempted remote enslavement of innocent people. The real grandiosity is in the over educated narcissistic psycopath delusional criminals mascaraing scientists who have and are participating in this disgusting utter failure.
Third, the persecutory experiences continue regardless of attempts to escape or relocate
Escapable trauma wouldn't seem so hopeless nor tend to cause helplessness. They do have to relocate equipment when a victim moves or flees. So often times the torment is significantly reduced right after a move. They say this is a reward for moving, but its just the time it takes them to get equipment to the new location. It took them almost 6 weeks when I last jumped states. Well It is government work.
The current version of MK is confusing and thats the way its intended and designed. Once you figure it out its not all that complicated.
You have to figure out whats real and whats not.

2024.05.11 17:54 Ok_Basil_1036 Really, what is the true recourse if you break ED?

(Edit: see below for the answer to the question posted)
I've read a lot of things on Early Decision, and, as a college student from the 90s (who went to a top tier school), I'm not really understanding what the actual recourse of rejecting an ED is. I'm looking for real data here, not judgy "if you reject ED, you're a bad person" kind of stuff.
Here's the situation -
My child is about to start applying to colleges. There are no financial limitations. No matter where they get in, we will be able to afford it. They will apply to, let's say, 20 schools. of those, there are 17 schools that they would be happy to go to. Some offer ED, some do not. The top of that list offers ED, and if accepted, they will almost certainly attend. And we will accept ED.
The other 3, however, we are calling "lottery" schools - think Ivy+. These schools don't offer ED. These schools have sub 4% acceptance rates. My child probably will not get into one of these schools. But if my child does get into one of these schools, they want to go there, rather than whatever ED school they accepted. So my question is - what is the actual recourse if we "break" ED. We lose a deposit? something else?
From articles like this: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/18/your-money/paying-for-college/early-decision-binding-nyu.html, It seems the general attitude towards ED is more fearmongering than any actual recourse, so I'm trying to get a real understanding. Thanks for anyone offering real answers!
Edit: The reason we're willing to do this is because of this article: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/01/opinion/college-admissions-applications.html. The example they give are for Barnard, where the odds of getting in on ED are 1 in 3, vs regular admissions at 1 in 20. That is a HUGE difference. It seems absolutely foolish to NOT apply ED to the Top choice (excluding lottery schools).
I think the lottery phrasing is very appropriate. You don't quit your job because you "applied" for the lottery (bought a ticket). But if you DO win the lottery, there's a very good chance you will "break your contract" with your employer and quit your job. It's no different in this circumstance
Edit #2: After a long drawn out conversation, I have a much better understanding of the situation, which I really did not understand.
What it comes down to is that the student really is not a participant in the contract, they agree to some vague comments, but the real parties involved are the high schools and the colleges (the members of NACAC). They are the ones who agree to the ED requirements. They then have the right to communicate the results of ED to each other. If you then continue the process and get accepted to another school, the ED school may notify the other school (or the other way around, or even the high school may notify either or both schools), which may result in a bilateral rescission of offers. This seems to be the real possible recourse.
The student really has no power or control over the application process, it is governed by this NACAC agreement which includes the high schools (https://www.vpaa.uillinois.edu/UserFiles/Servers/Server\_420372/File/spgpfinal\_approvedsept2017.pdf). The high schools and colleges collude to control the whole process, and parts of that agreement that were found to be illegal have been replaced by parts that are much worse for students. I thought the students were much bigger participants, but it's clear they are not - they are merely the pawns of the NACAC agreement.
thank you u/CherryChocolatePizza for helping me understand this.
At the root of it, I misunderstood the whole relationship, but with this knowledge, I feel better equipped to help my child make the right choice. Thank you!

🤖 DrEureka can automate robot training using LLMs

In robotics, one of the biggest challenges is transferring skills learned in simulation to real-world environments. NVIDIA researchers have developed a groundbreaking algorithm called DrEureka that uses LLMs to automate the design of reward functions and domain randomization parameters—key components in the sim-to-real transfer process.
The algorithm works in three stages: first, it creates reward functions with built-in safety instructions; then, it runs simulations to determine the best range of physics parameters; finally, it generates domain randomization configurations based on the data gathered in the previous stages.
When tested on various robots, including quadrupeds and dexterous manipulators, DrEureka-trained policies outperformed those designed by human experts.

Prometheus 2, a free and open-source language model developed by KAIST AI, has shown impressive capabilities in evaluating other language models, approaching the performance of commercial models like GPT-4.
The model was trained on a new pairwise comparison dataset called the "Preference Collection," which includes over 1,000 evaluation criteria beyond basic characteristics. By combining two separate models - one for direct ratings and another for pairwise comparisons - the researchers achieved the best results.
In tests across eight datasets, Prometheus 2 showed the highest agreement with human judgments and commercial language models among all freely available rating models, significantly closing the gap with proprietary models.

OpenAI has developed a new tool to detect if an image was created by DALL-E 3, its AI image generator. The tool can detect DALL-E 3 images with around 98% accuracy, even if the image has been cropped, compressed, or had its saturation changed. However, the tool is not as effective at detecting images generated by other AI models, only flagging 5-10% of images.
This image detection classifier is only available to a group of testers, including research labs and research-oriented journalism nonprofits through OpenAI’s Research Access Program.

More on today's OpenAI Announcement (ChatGPT-4o)

——————————————
New model. It’s called GPT-4o (terrible name) and has GPT-4-level intelligence. It’s 2x faster. 50% cheaper. 5x higher rate limits (compared to GPT-4-Turbo). 💡 What everyone is focused on: it’s cheaper! And faster! And with API access! 👀 What I am focused on: free users just got a mega performance boost which will likely reduce churn and the model architecture is a WINNER and worthy of attention - they went from three models to one; according to Andrej Karpathy, former OpenAI, they have built a “combined text-audio-vision model that processes all three modalities in one single neural network.”
——————————————
GPTs for all. Now every user, even free users, can access the “mini task bot” GPTs. 💡 What everyone is focused on: yay now everyone can use the GPT I built! 👀 What I am focused on: completely new user base, tens of millions new users testing and breaking capabilities
——————————————
More Voice. Now way more real-time (previously there was a 2-3 second lag). You can interrupt it mid-sentence. The voice assistant “picks up on emotion” (like fast breathing). I hate that phrase and would rather call it speech nuances. Fast multi-language translation. Performance improved for 50 languages (97% of the world’s population). 💡 What everyone is focused on: wow it sounds like Scarlett Johansson! 👀 What I am focused on: I’m already talking to ChatGPT Voice every morning. This is going to massively increase voice-first experiences. I think office spaces need to think about this asap. Think about the acoustics and EVERYONE talking to an AI assistant at once. It’s already an issue on my team.
——————————————
Vision on desktop. Now the desktop version can “see” your screen—only when you permission it to, not all the time. Sort of like generative AI alt text + chat. So you can ask it to describe a graph on your screen or presumably ask it questions about an article on your screen without a big lift. 💡 What everyone is focused on: lots of privacy concerns (I agree) and why do we need voice for code 👀 What I am focused on: HOLY MOLY THIS IS THE WINNING FEATURE. It’s basically a coworker on screen share with you 24/7, with no fatigue. I can imagine people working for hours straight with this on.

Preview being weird on only some documents
When I try and highlight or display text in some way, it puts the highlight like in the corner, on what seems to be an invisible miniature version of the text that doesn't really exist. Using the search feature I know the 'content' of the mini text lines up with what's actually written, so why does it appear like this instead???
Hearsay. Tyranny. A witch.
It works fine on other documents though, for some reason. Anyone know why this is?
A model example. What highlights should strive to be.

2024.05.11 03:16 Basic_Ad234 can someone please grade my ap synthesis essay? thanks ( self-study )

frq from the 2021 exam : https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/ap21-frq-english-language.pdf?course=ap-english-language-and-composition
note : i’m self studying for the exam and this is my first ap lang essay ( and my first essay in a long damn time in general ) . i know it’s crazy that it’s my first with the exam being so soon, but it is what it is. i tried to get chat gpt to grade it based on the rubric, but it gave me a 5 and to me that’s unbelievable. anyways, i’m open to constructive criticism to improve my skills with the time i have left.
here is the essay itself :
Thesis :
While cursive in the presence of digital technology is not necessary, hand written instruction, such as print, should still have a place in schooling because of the cognitive benefits; relevance to daily activities ( specifically in schools ); and the use of it in scenarios where the use of technology is not available or an option.
P1 Concession
To begin with, it is easy to admit that handwritten instruction in schools is not necessary in the digital age.
In the classroom, traditional writing has been “swapped for keyboards” and “blocking cursors” while “some teachers believe that cursive is archaic and that students should be prepared for more contemporary communication” ( Source A ) so that they may “ become better writers as handwritten instruction takes up less of their education ( Source C ), for this type of instruction is only emphasized inside the classroom and “the move outside our schools, and in innovative schools, is toward technology.” ( Source A )
This evidence confirms that cursive is not necessary in today’s educational programs because of the need to instead prioritize how the majority of our communication is done.
However, since handwritten instruction is not just made up of cursive, and benefits of it can still be achieved without having to dedicate the time to learning cursive, handwritten instruction should still have a place in school.
P2
Unlike the former point, handwritten instruction ( such as print ) has a place in schooling because of the cognitive benefits developed when taught compared to fully transitioning to only teaching forms of modern communication. When it comes to the opposition of handwritten instruction, most people focus on the cursive part of the argument as if handwriting consisted of just cursive and not the printed word as well. Both give cognitive benefits to whomever is taught it, but only one is necessary to be taught to receive the enhancements.
For example, “ Because handwriting is a complex skill that involves both cognitive and fine motor skills, direct instruction is required to learn handwriting ( it is not good enough to just give a workbook to students and hope for the best. However, the result of good instruction is that students are benefited in their cognitive development and fine motor skills.” Specifically, when taking handwritten notes students more effectively retain information, comprehend the content, and have more focus during lectures compared to students who took notes on a computer. They are also less likely to “...have problems retrieving letters from memory; spelling accurately, extracting meaning from a text or lecture, and interpreting the context of words and phrases.” As well as expressing more ideas and writing longer compositions. ( Source D )
This evidence supports that handwritten instruction should still have a place in schooling due to the cognitive benefits because it illustrates what benefits are present in students when they are exposed to handwritten instruction as opposed to disadvantages when they are not.
Consequently, since students are put in an advantageous position in contrast to those who rely on writing on keyboards, educators should consider whether prioritizing the focus on the digital age is actually hindering the educational progression of their students. Therefore, Handwritten instruction should be a part of the learning experience due to the fact that its absence would decrease the quality of their education.
P3
In a similar manner, the relevance of handwritten instruction in daily activities ( specifically in schooling ), has made it necessary to still be taught in school. The data “of a 2013 survey of 450 elementary school teachers that asked how much of their time students spent on writing on paper and how much of their time they spent using technology” concluded students spent the majority of their time writing on paper compared to using technology and as you move up in the education system you see that over time they use less and less of technology in contrast to using paper. ( Source D )
This evidence proves that handwritten instruction is relevant enough to be taught because of how much students still use it. Consequently, since the usage of handwritten instruction is still relevant in the lives of students, it should not be removed from their education. Therefore, due to its relevance in education it is evident that handwritten instruction still has a place in education.
P4 ( maybe i should’ve removed this… it’s outside evidence )
Equally important is the usage of handwriting where technology isn’t accessible or an option. Solar flares, simply not having access to an internet connection due to circumstance, or even knowing that technology is not inherently secure ( data can be sold, obtained, or silenced ) can make it so that you cannot type what you want to express. Having the ability to write on paper allows you to have access to a written of communication even in these scenarios. Therefore, being taught how to write by hand gives you an alternative in an ever-changing world where you cannot control or know what will happen next.
another note : i know it’s pretty bad. my commentary should be more developed and link back to my thesis, but i would like someone’s advice on what and how i could do better.

2024.05.11 02:50 deelan1990 What is the best text extraction you recommend?

Hi all,
I am trying to build a local RAG app for my obsidian database and other documents I have for my own personal knowledge base and wanted something completely offline (or as close to it as possible).
I have been tinkering with llama index document readers and also Tika document parsers and found it can be a bit finicky at times, and didn't find Tika server running all the time to be that great. I have also tried dedicated libraries for certain documentation types like PyPDF, pdfplumber etc
I've got a mixture of doc, DOCX, xls, xlsx, ppt, PPTX, pdf, MD, txt, html etc And it's all varying formats and versions etc that I wanted to add to the embeddings for but I'm getting stuck at the text extraction and processing.
For those who have built their own RAG app etc, what did you use for processing your documents? Did you use the libraries above or some others and used dedicated libraries per each document type?
NB: not as advanced as most here so apologies if I use the wrong phrasing or ask stupid follow up questions 😅

2024.05.10 21:11 kicka1985 [Complete] [63k] [Romantic Disaster Comedy] Looking for anyone's feedback.

Hi Beta readers!
This is the first novel in a universe I've been building for 18 years. It's about a pregnant couple who has to go on the run to escape a pathogen. Despite the subject matter, it's light-hearted and I'd just like anyone to take a look and tell me if they finished the book and, if not, which page they got bored on. Other tips about style, pacing, anything are welcome! THANKS!
Here's the opening and a link to the full book if you're interested.
Like most Thursday nights, they were watching TV. Unlike most Thursday nights, something important was on. About two hours ago, the whole thing exploded. Apparently, an enrichment tier collapsed and triggered a chain reaction. Chase didn't know what an enrichment tier was, nor what kind of chain reaction had been triggered but there was the proof, smoldering six stories high and pouring inky black smoke into the sky.
The smart ones were already out doing the smart thing: panicking. The National Fuel Reserve was engulfed in flames, clear as day and for everyone to see. As literally as could be stated, the nation's oil supply was going up in smoke. Smart people knew what that meant for their way of life: it had just been replaced with a much harder one.
For the not-so-smart, bewilderment superseded urgency. The television held them spellbound. With open-mouthed amazement, they watched watery black stuff gush from the burning husk of the very important facility.
Chase fell into neither category of person. He was one of the rare, super-smart ones: a gas station attendant who, for the last two years, had been stealing gas and hiding it away in a storage shed.
Avery fell gracefully into an equally rare category of person: the super-not-so-smart. She looked at Chase with shining purple eyes and asked for a third time: "What's that black stuff?"
Chase recalled a date night several months earlier. The familiar, tranquilizing sounds of the mall washed over them and Avery asked: "Do you really like them?"
"Yeah, they're great. Purple." Avery tilted her head and blinked at him. She did this whenever he failed to offer the response she was hoping for and she did it often.
"You're just saying that."
"I'm not. I promise. They're amazing," Chase half-lied. As he looked into Avery's deep purple irises, he had to admit there was something transporting about them. "They're otherworldly and exotic."
"Really?" she looked at herself in her phone.
"Yeah, futuristic and trendy." *Eerie and completely unsettling.*
"So what's wrong?"
"Is it safe?"
"It's gene therapy. It's completely safe."
"Did it hurt?"
"It was just a shot."
"I know, but...like...did they inject it in your eyes?"
"No, right here in my arm. That's how gene therapy works."
Oh yeah, of course.
She held her phone very close to her eyes and they crossed. "They don't look very bright. I thought they'd sparkle."
"You want sparkles?"
"The technician says they'll get more vibrant over the next few months. It just takes time for my cells to adopt and replicate the new gene code."
When Avery said a word or phrase like "adopt and replicate" or "poly-amorous relationship," Chase could actually hear someone else saying it to her first. She liked to repeat clever sounding phrases like that.

Learning to master AI programming software doesn't have to be too difficult; it's about knowing its capabilities and the controls. I've observed that with regular usage you'll find that the the learning curve is manageable.
In the beginning, there's a lot to consider, especially when you're not a tech expert. But, the majority of platforms are built with user-friendly interfaces which guide you through the steps.
After a couple of sessions I felt comfortable and was able to efficaciously make use of the tools to improve my writing.

How Do These Tools Handle Multiple Languages and Translations?

I've observed that these programs have a great ability to manage numerous different languages in translation and language. They employ sophisticated algorithms to ensure precision and keep the subtleties of every language.
This allows me to develop material that appeals to the worldwide audience. But, I've observed that the quality of material may vary somewhat depending on the software and the particular language pair It's worth trying to determine the perfect option for your requirements.

Are There Any Compatibility Issues With Specific Operating Systems or Devices?

I've noticed that, while the majority of AI writing tools operate seamlessly across a variety of Operating Systems however, some face compatibility problems in particular with OSes that aren't as well-known.
For example, some applications may not be designed for Linux or earlier Windows version, and this could be a source of frustration. However, software developers are continuously upgrading the software to improve compatibility and these issues are slowly being addressed, providing greater accessibility and smoother experience for all users.

Conclusion

Selecting the best AI writing software by 2024 changed the way I handle material creation. In particular, since incorporating the Surfer application in my process, I've noticed significant growth in my site's online traffic and this makes the investment an easy decision. No matter if you're a sole entrepreneur or a part of a team the tools are powerful and efficient methods to improve your online presence.
Remember that the objective is to do better not harder. by together the right tools you'll be prepared for success!

2024.05.10 07:51 Level_Cress_1586 I want to use obsidian to be a good math tutor

I'm a student in college studying pure mathematics. I would like to start working as a tutor, and I want to do a good job.
What I would like to do is, go through textbooks and solve all the problems, and have very clear written solutions. I don't have the best memory and can't memorize how do do every problem. So I want to be able to quickly search, and be able to access solutions when needed.
The issue is I'm not sure how to properly do this. I did get the omni search plugin, but I'm not sure how to make my notes such that it would be easy to find them later. For example, let's say I want to know how to find the nth root of a complex number. I want I want to be able to type in "how to find the nth root of a complex number" or some similar phrase and have my solution pop up. An issue is that, I will have a pdf instead of a typed out solution. So this makes it even harder to search for.
Would anyone know a good way to go about doing this? I won't always search for the same solution the same way, so it isn't helpful just writing down that phrase and hoping I'm able to find it using omni search.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is one of the most popular PDF reader apps worldwide, with over 635 million installs globally. It provides users with a comprehensive set of tools to view, annotate, share, protect and manage PDF documents across devices. Let’s explore some of the most useful and appealing features that make Adobe Acrobat Reader the top choice for PDF management.

SEAMLESS CROSS-DEVICE ACCESS

One of the biggest advantages of Adobe Acrobat Reader is its seamless cross-device functionality. It enables users to access, view and edit PDFs across smartphones, tablets and computers. You can start working on a document on your phone, and pick up right where you left off on your laptop or desktop thanks to the built-in cloud storage integration. This makes collaborating on-the-go incredibly convenient.
Signing in with your Adobe ID lets you sync files and access them anytime, anywhere. You can also link the app to cloud storage services like Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive or Dropbox for even more flexibility. With your entire PDF library accessible across all devices, Adobe Acrobat Reader dramatically improves document productivity.

POWERFUL PDF EDITING TOOLS

While the free version of Adobe Acrobat Reader allows you to view, share and annotate PDFs, upgrading to a paid Premium subscription unlocks advanced editing capabilities. With the built-in PDF editor, you can modify text and images directly within a PDF document.
Fix typos, add or delete text, insert new paragraphs, or replace images seamlessly. The editing experience is highly intuitive, with various options for editing text, scanning documents, converting file formats and more. You can even re-order, rotate, crop or delete specific pages in a PDF file to customize it to your needs. For power users who work extensively with PDFs, the editing functionality alone makes a Premium subscription worthwhile.

Vancouver, British Columbia--(Newsfile Corp. - May 9, 2024) - Tudor Gold Corp. (TSXV: TUD) (FSE: H56) (the "Company" or "Tudor") is pleased to announce that crews are on site preparing camp and drill locations for the Company's upcoming 2024 exploration program at its flagship Treaty Creek Project, located in the Golden Triangle of Northwest British Columbia. Two diamond drills were mobilized to the project on May 7th and 8th and drilling is expected to commence on May 9th.
Ken Konkin, President & CEO of Tudor Gold, comments: "We are very excited to begin the 2024 diamond drill hole program well beyond the known northern and northeastern limits of the Goldstorm Deposit. In addition to testing the SC-1 high-grade breccia, the proposed Phase 1 drill holes are designed to expand and convert much of the inferred mineralization within the CS-600 and DS5 domains that is estimated to contain approximately six million ounces of gold-equivalent resource grading 1.25 g/t AuEq.

2024.05.09 19:31 stevenjklein 72% Americans: Israel should “Move forward with an operation in Rafah”

It’s in the most recent Harvard Harris poll.
Also, to point out how the phrasing of a question can affect the answer, they asked these two questions:
  1. Do you favor or oppose a permanent ceasefire in Gaza?
  2. Would you favor or oppose that ceasefire if it meant that Hamas was allowed to continue to hold hostages and Hamas were to continue to run Gaza?
70% said yes to the 1st question above, and almost the exact same percentage said no to the 2nd question.

2024.05.09 11:04 Fwoggie2 A Michigan Redditor helps their brother get justice after a neighbour's contractor fells 2 of his oaks without authorisation

trigger warnings: Tree vandalism
mood spoilers: Sad start but justice is done in the end for their brother

Tree law and MS paint for your Sunday (Michigan) - 6 years ago
Help me convince my brother that this is worth pursuing.
A contractor building a house across the street cut down two very large trees on my brother's property. The biggest one was a 250 year old oak tree that was 75 inches in diameter I don't know why my brother is reluctant to go after this contractor, but can anybody give me some links to success stories I can send him? Maybe something to show him how much this might be worth?
I know from many happy hours on legaladvice that he is going to need a survey and an estimate of value from an arborist. One additional wrinkle which gives me an excuse to post a gratuitous shitty MS Paint drawing is that the tree is actually on the neighbor's side of the street, but my brother's property extends across the street, so the entire street (and the tree) in this area is on my brother's property. The tree is presumably on an easement of some sort, so the city could remove it if they wanted, but there is no question that the contractor removed it, not the city. Would this change the legal situation at all? Thanks!

[UPDATE] [MI] A small treelaw update - 6 years ago
A small update to this post. My brother is now convinced that this is worth pursuing and has contacted an attorney. We did it, Reddit!
Here's a pic of the tree in it's former glory courtesy of Google Street View. (Thanks to u/ailee43 for the suggestion.) The house in the pic has been torn down to make room for the mcmansion that is being built.

Treelaw in-process update - 5 years ago
This is in Michigan for our robotic overlord.
Original post here.
Previous update. The tree, now established to be a historic Bebb oak, in excess of 200 years old.
Shitty MS Paint of rather bizarre property line situation.
Slightly less shitty MSPaint
So, the mythical arborists do in fact exist. I've never seen one of their reports before so here it is for your viewing pleasure: page 1, page 2. TLDR: the trees are valued at almost $90,000.
A lawyer has been hired. Yesterday a demand letter for $268,000 was sent to the builder who cut the trees down (Michigan allows triple damages for trees). Popcorn is in the microwave. Stay tuned!

[UPDATE] Michigan treelaw case - 4 years ago
This is an update to this post.
tl;dr: The case is over. My brother accepted a settlement of $89,000.
Full update: Yes, friends, I'm back with an update after many long months. I did not forget about you. The wheels of justice turn slowly, but they do turn.
As I said, my brother accepted a settlement. This was reached through an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process called Case Evaluation that is apparently used here in Michigan. You can read more about this process here (PDF warning), but essentially both sides provide a max 20 page summary and a 15 minute oral presentation to a panel of three lawyers. No witnesses or evidence per se, although attachments (documents) are allowed. The panel then comes up with a dollar amount that they think the case is worth.
Both sides then have the option to accept, or reject the settlement and go to trial. I was hoping to be able to watch an actual treelaw trial, but alas it was not to be. There is a possibility of significant penalties if you reject the settlement and then don't beat it by at least 10% in court, so I understand my brothers reasoning in accepting the settlement. It turns out, not unexpectedly, that the settlement will be coming from the contractors insurance company, so hopefully collection will not be an issue.
Another outcome of this case is that my brother, who is not a redditor, is now using the phrase "pound sand" in casual conversation. We did it Reddit!
Edited to remove duplicate links at the end of the conclusion post.

2024.05.09 05:38 Ill_Muscle_6259 Here's what happened at today's SA Senate meeting (5/8/24)

Hi all,
Here's what happened at the last senate meeting of the semester. As always, let me know if you have any questions.
*I am not affiliated with SA in any way.*
*This information may be inaccurate and is definitely incomplete. Read at your own risk!*

TLDR

The Meeting

The meeting was called to order at: 5:09
Attendance: 12/23
The Senate meeting minutes from last meeting were approved (although you already had them from me) unanimously. Meeting notes: April 24, 2024
No committee reports.

Old Business

Resolution #24 - Broad Based Fees - Denied Unanimously (12Y/0A/0N)

New Business

Resolution #26 - Broad Based Fees - This resolution calls for UB to overhaul their survey taking process when it comes to getting student opinions about fee increases.

Becky brings up concerns that no action will be taken after this resolution. Jacob recommends forming a committee for this item. Cole recommends getting SA to amplify this survey. Kayla recommends passing the resolution as a sentiment that SA expresses. Becky recommends contacting the office that sent the email and setting up a meeting.
Result - Approved (7Y/5A/0N)

Resolution #27 - Transportation Fees - This resolution calls for UB to stop using the Stampede to transport arrested people.

The person who put this forward is "open to criticism" about the resolution. If the senators agree with this sentiment, they should pass it. Becky says that the only alternative would be putting students into a cop car. Becky doesn’t know if there is an alternative. Becky does not approve of students being arrested like criminals. Gavin says that a resolution may not be the best way to do this. The person who put this forward says that the students are dissatisfied with the action take and SA should express their support. The Student Affairs director says he has no issues with this resolution.
Result: Approved (9Y/3A/0N)

Open Discussion

Here's what the scene looked like. On the right side of the room, there were about 7-10 people all in support of Israel. The majority of them were from JSU/are Jewish. On the left side of the room were about 15-20 people in support of Palestine, holding up signs calling for Becky to put forward the divestment resolution. The signs talked about how the divestment petition got 1400+ undergrad signatures while Becky was elected with 700 votes. Here's a brief summary of almost everyone's statements (I will add context if needed).
Gavin says that each student gets 5 minutes with one extension, no Q and A.
Ben’s statement: he wants the university to drop the charges of the student protests that were charged with “loitering, trespassing, and disorderly conduct”. His resolution did not get placed on the table, he made it as neutral as possible, in regards to free speech for protestors.
SUNY SA Delegate Tiffany: Talks about her email with another SA delegate, says it’s SA’s choice. The delegate believes that it should be put on the table. She mentions that 1400 undergrads signed the petition for divestment and Becky was only voted in by 700 votes. “Don’t let controversy stop you from speaking up”.
UB MSA President: claims that Becky is taking a stance by not letting senators vote on the divestment resolution.
UB OAS President: Continued discrimination on Palestine related issues. “Bias and injustice”. Here in full support of the divestment resolution. Wednesday night the protestors complied, and were still brutalized while praying. Broke her heart to see friend get beat up, hijab ripped off. Becky does not represent students.
UB JSU Member: Been here for 4 years. Since Oct 7th there has been more antisemitism, been called Nazi, k*ke. One pro Palestine protester yelled during a moment of silence for the holocaust and oct 7th, terror threats have been made.
UB LASA President: Brutalization of protestors is not ok. On brand for UB for this point. Ellicott was design against protesting. Not the only school in the SUNY system that goes against their own students. Supports brothers and sisters in this organization.
UB LASA VP: Grew up in NYC. BLM protests are very similar to Wednesday protest. Does not feel safe on campus after this UBPD. Everyone is afraid of the UBPD. Understand that Becky cannot chose sides, feel like being voices are immediately being silenced, as a fellow student of color.
UB JSU Member: Called a Nazi, told go back to Germany. Wednesday could not get to lab for thesis work. Feels unsafe on this campus as a Jew, sees parallel to grandfather going to Auschwitz for trying to go to work.
UB JSU President: Should not have to feel unsafe. Students feel that they are comfortable with terror threats. “Clear what environment you created”. The bull was painted with the phrase "We love being Jewish" and was vandalized. Jew hatred has increased on campus. Conversations are being held on campus. Conversation is continually rejected (CONTEXT: protestors were asked not to interact with counter protestors). Asked not to remain overnight. Free speech has rules. Sad that it has come to this point. Harassed, doxxed, followed, feels like grandparents during WWII.
UB Student Voices SUNY SA Exec Director: Becky had the nerve to say that the campus is safe. Exercise their first amendment right, SA is the one who has created this environment by not letting conversation happen on campus.
Motion to limit discussion to 3 mins, consent unanimously.
UB SA Senate Affairs Director: Commend everyone for being here and sharing your narrative. Conversations with both of you personally. Peaceful protests, encouraging protests from both sides. Condemns any kind of hatred and people who have felt unsafe. Continue to fight for what you believe.
UB student: Jewish student. 3 of my parents are holocaust survivors, grandmother is Palestinian. He can see antisemitism as it pops up in 1930s Germany, certain words and phrases are antisemitic. People need to know what words mean. BDS means no tomatoes or touch screens or cancer treatments. We should all learn.
UB student: Hate towards Jewish community from some students vs hate towards Brown people from UB administration. Someone who does not feel safe with the current police force. Rebuild relationship with the UBPD, Amherst. People are dying right now in Gaza. Family grown up with genocide by being descended by African slaves.
UB student: Mixed race Jewish student. Misinfo spread on social media about his heritage. Quote and fact check your numbers. Asked where all the Jewish people in the middle east. Hamas’s goal is to genocide all the Jews. Tired of hearing false narratives and nothing rooted in false narratives. Wants people to sit down and research.
UB SA delegate: Sorry for anyone experiencing hate/hate crime. The city of children (in Palestine) should not exist. Killing needs to stop, that is the #1 priority.
UB SA Student Affairs: All the people in this room are doing the right things. Turning into a conversation where. Directing anger at each other rather than the issue at hand. No resolution being voted on today. Nothing more to discuss. Doing things the right way by these protests. Only way to work towards a solution for everyone. Keep dialogue open.
Becky: SA president. This room is the perfect example for SA people neutral. SJP and JSU are both SA clubs. Becky’s feelings have no impact. She is black, nothing stems from personal bias. Misinfo going around. Would like to clarify something. The signatures were not a condition for the resolution being passed. Show that student support this. SA needs to have neutrality. Legally required to not do anything. Say as many buzzwords as you want, cannot yell at the law. EO 157, state law. Applies until the SC or NYS says it doesn’t. Protecting SA by getting sued. None of the clubs will not exist. She does not want to take the risk. She is sorry if she may have provided misinformation. Told both sides the exact same story. I’ve said the same thing. This (the open discussion) is voices being heard. Does not mean rights being violated. When I get emails, this does not change what I have to follow as president. My job is to keep the SA running. This may be hard to understand. Many other ways to go about it. This is not where it will occur. This is not a Becky stance. Sorry for disappointing people on both sides.
UB JSU: A vote would bring more division on campus. Talked to almost all of you. Some of you ignored us, want an open discussion.
UB Vegans VP: We are asking for a vote. If we care about free and open discussions, we would have the vote. There is no neutrality we can take on this issue. Response on Wednesday made me feel safe on this issue. Students were being randomly being ID checked during peaceful candlelight vigil.
Becky: Law does not care about this issue. SA is not the one with the power to change that. If your goal is to get something done, you don’t give up when one path fails. There are other ways to get to the goal if SA does not work.
Will: EO 157 targets the act of calling for divestment.
Becky: I act as a legal filter, do it with people who are actual lawyers.
Kayla: Lobbying to Kathy Hochul might be the better solution here. No wiggle room that they give us. Wants to work with campus to make sure that it is a safe place for Jewish students. Threatened by BLM protests when she participated, wants to be there for everyone.
Tiffany: There are two different risks to take, which one is more important? The law can change + push for the law to change.
Becky: UBPD is separate from SA. Separate actions needed for the UPD issue. Ben’s resolution was dropped and was not cleared, not the resolution that was passed. UPD to act differently is different from divestments. Does not want resolutions that will not do anything.
UB Student: Increase in Jew hatred if BDS is passed. All my friends have experienced Jew hatred. Open discussion is needed.
Discussion ends at 6:51.
No announcements.
Adjournment - 6:51

Final Thoughts

I was hoping to see a resolution about UBF's investment portfolio, but it wasn't put up to a vote.
Thanks to everyone for a great semester. P.S. - I won my argument with the administration over the UBCSR election. The Spectrum put together a full article you can read.
That's all from me for now. As always, if you have any questions please let me know.

2024.05.09 03:48 PlatypusDream Employer keeps moving the goalposts for the bonu$

[Rant incoming]
When I started with this (national USA) company last December, the job listing on Indeed included the phrase, "$6000 hiring bonus" (for people who met certain criteria, which I did).
In the offer letter, that was changed to a _retention incentive_🚩 paid in installments 🚩: $1000 after 1 month, $2000 after 3 months, & $3000 after 6 months... of FT🚩 work. (So there's 3 changes.)
FT work only starts after training, which was supposed to be a month 🚩 (or less) of PT classroom & hands-on specific to the job. Some people hired after me did achieve that; for me it was 3.5 months! (4th change) I think there's at minimum some favoritism happening there because the trainer inflated their training hours (in the records).
Anyway... The first paycheck after I've been working FT for a month is this Friday. (Actually, it's already pending in my bank, which is good.)
I contacted HR, who put my query (basically, "it's on this paycheck, right?") through to the person who handles pay for my area, who says it's done at 3, 6, & 9 months 🚩 of FT work! (5th change)
Plus HR sent a pdf of the offer letter, with my signature, that has 3/6/9... but I strongly suspect shenanigans. Either she altered the text or put the signature block into a different document. (This HR has also lied to me, saying there's a hiring freeze, but new people are still showing up & jobs are posted on Indeed.)
When I contacted corporate HR VP, this was the response: "Hello [name], bonuses are on hold at the moment while the company goes through some restructuring. As soon as the pause is lifted, we will make every effort to pay bonuses to the employees that [sic] qualify." (6th change)
I know they've been in financial trouble because basic safety maintenance is ignored, and the quarterly safety bonus was stopped at the start of 2024, and the commercial motor vehicles we operate are very unreliable (breaking down frequently). Customers are mad too. So yes, I've been looking for different work as well as upgrading my skills & licensing.
Rant over. Thank you.
