LTB/LTTF: Stadium Club Black/White Orange Parallels of Roberto Clemente Award Winners
Hey Everyone! Hoping to get some help working on a new PC project and trying to avoid piecemealing through eBay.
I’m trying to put together a complete set of Roberto Clemente Award winners in Stadium Club Black/White, Orange Parallels (Please No Sepia). The set year doesn’t necessarily matter, however I need them to be wearing the jersey of the team that they won the award with at the time (e.g. Rizzo in Cubs jersey). Working my way backwards but here’s the last 10 years winners to start if anyone has any:
Judge (NYY) Justin Turner (LAD) Nelson Cruz (MIN) Adam Wainwright (STL) Carlos Carrasco (CLE) Yadier Molina (STL) Anthony Rizzo (CHC) Curtis Granderson (NYM) Andrew McCutchen (PIT) Jimmy Rollins (PHI) Paul Konerko (CWS)
Attached photos for reference of each one. Thanks everyone!

2024.05.16 22:23 PandaOnTheMoonnn My (32f) boyfriend (29m) and I are on the precipice of breaking up, and he chose to play video games. How do I deal with this?

My boyfriend and I were having a talk that revolved around the idea of breaking up. He did something really bad and I am struggling to see a future with us. I hadn’t spoke to him for a couple of days as I needed time, and then I called him. My therapist had suggested that rather than giving him a monologue, I should converse with him about what had happened.
My boyfriend usually is so loving and kind to me. Today, he spoke contemptuous and frustratingly to me the entire time, and though he showed some remorse, it felt almost disingenuous. I thought that, if you’re in danger of breaking up with the person you love most in the world, wouldn’t you be more sad than angry? He said it was because he had been stewing in negative emotions for days not knowing if we were breaking up, so “of course” he wasn’t going to be feeling anything but angry. He said me wanting space was forced on him as he didn’t want to give me space , he wanted to talk to me, though acknowledged that we are different in how we deal with things and maybe he needs to learn to take a breather.
Later, he said he needed some space and time to think 2 hours into this conversation. What could I do but say ok? I said to him that I will give him that but that even from this conversation alone I’m struggling to see a future. He almost immediately went into a Discord call with his friend and played COD.
My friend posed the thought to me that although my boyfriend had really looked after me over the past year and a half (only a week ago he was in hospital with me wiping my butt and cleaning my teeth), if you were about to face a potential break up with someone you claimed you’d die for and die if they broke up with you, would you be able to sit there and play a game, or would you be panicking and full of anxiety?
This struck me on so many levels. And hurt. Because the answer is… I don’t think so.
I wanted to ask others. I want to know because I’m hurting and I feel like if I see his going on a game after we spoke as a sign he ‘may have actually NEVER cared and … well, that would hurt so much on top of breaking up. And I am now decided on breaking up. I just want to feel like the love we shared was at least real. Maybe it’s stupid and irrelevant to even ask this. But I just wanted to see how others would react in his shoes.

2024.05.16 22:03 HankScorpio4242 Disco Elysium: A Game About Consciousness

Disco Elysium: A Game About Consciousness
I just finished this game and felt I had to share.
The most interesting aspect of the game is how you interact with your “skills”, which are essentially aspects of your persona. These different aspects literally speak to you and have arguments with each other.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_Elysium
“There are four primary abilities in the game: Intellect, Psyche, Physique, and Motorics. Each ability has six distinct secondary skills for a total of 24….The 24 skills also play into the dialogue trees, creating a situation where the player-character may have an internal debate with one aspect of their mind or body, creating the idea that the player is communicating with a fragmented persona. These internal conversations may provide suggestions or additional insight that can guide the player into actions or dialogue with the game's non-playable characters, depending on the skill points invested into the skill.”
While I don’t think this really fits any particular model of consciousness, it’s a fascinating exploration of the way that different aspects of our internal monologue interact with each other, and how different situations require us to call upon different attributes. And how often we seem to be at war with ourselves.

2024.05.16 21:22 TheInvincibleMan Am I too light to dance salsa?

My wife attends Batacha classes and is pretty good. I’ve always shown interest but it’s her thing.
I recently asked if I should take separate lessons and she got into this long monologue about how 65kg men aren’t built for this type of dancing because they’re not muscly enough for the lifts. I am 65kg and while not muscly, I train a lot and know I’m strong enough to lift my wife.
She then went on about how it’s not an inclusive dance and how hiphop dancing is far more inclusive. Felt like a weird way to gatekeep something and I don’t think it’s because she doesn’t want me there, as I made it clear I’d do separate classes.
My question is this, as an athletic 65kg male, is she right?
I’ve booked a 7 hour intensive day with a private instructor as a Batacha beginner just for fun regardless.

What Steve and Gary have in common: They've turned from boys to soldiers, fighters. They both went through very traumatic events.
  • Steve and Gary Both gained a lot of experience. Physical and mental traumas that they were able to overcome.
  • Steve: The squad died Killerfich Where then he first put on a helmet and began his journey. Many friends and partners. Family, childhood friends
  • Gary: Family, friends, acquaintances, partners, Gary had to kill the only person who possibly understood him: his teacher and mentor Drab
  • I think the main feature of Gorebox: There is a little lightness and cinematic quality here, but they won’t be gentle with you here. The main characters sometimes almost went crazy, killed and were seriously damaged. Even In theory, Steve, who is a much more positive and very kinder character compared to Phil and Gary, killed children. Phil, Gary, Steve: Anti-hero. But at the same time there is such music and atmosphere that it’s as if the world in the gorebox is accustomed to cruelty
Phil Timsky, Gary, Steve
(My thinking, In theory in my head )
  • 1) Complexity, Introduction, conflict, dialogues, Design, writing: Phil
  • 2) Backstory, Depth, personality, monologues, Impact, ptsd, potential, leadership, peak, Heroism: Gary
  • 3) Trauma, emotion, Rehabilitation, Symbolism, Themes, humour, Relationship, dynamics, spider man/Invincible moment, wild power, morlas: Steve
4) Motivation, development: = Gary/Steve (Steve just made a promise not to die at any cost.) Parallels: Steve >= Gary
Conclusion: Steve or Phil. Steve - Maybe just dead :)

2024.05.16 20:29 NeoXxSLB Exploring a character's emotions and inner turmoil.

As the title says, I've got some critiques about the story being intriguing but most of them also say that I should add more introspective moments, especially from the MC.
I do agree somewhat with it but I feel like it's a bit awkward to write. How do I add more of the MC's thoughts without breaking the flow of the scene and interrupting an action scene for example?
Is something like this fine enough? :
Cynthia struggled to keep pace with the creature's rapid attacks while also keeping an eye on the shadow wolves threatening the children. She knew she wasn't strong enough to protect everyone, but she hoped to create a small window for Mathis and his friends to escape.
Mathis felt powerless as he watched his mother engage in battle with the towering creature. He loathed his own weakness, his inability to help. Even though his father had said that those who reached the Sprouting Stage before the age of twelve were prodigies, Mathis felt anything but. He struggled with the basic spells and found his Death abilities worthless in this fight.
Adding to his torment, his ability to see recently deceased spirits came to bite him in the ass. He could see the spirits of his neighbors, his friends, and his friend’s families all hovering around him in search of revenge. Their despair, their anguish, and their worries all radiated around him crushing his already fragile mind.
Or should there be more internal monologue like here:
Mathis was examining the amulet when the cave suddenly trembled, and a rush of seawater poured in with ferocious force. The sudden flood caught him off guard, and he was swept off his feet, tumbling back toward the cave's entrance. The raging water tossed him against the walls, the ceiling, and the rocky floor, bruising his body and leaving him disoriented.
“No…!” Another hit pushed the air out of his lungs, leaving him breathless.
He struggled against the surging currents, his thoughts a whirlwind of panic. 'I should have listened to them,' he thought as the cold water engulfed him, pulling him further into the cave's throat. In that moment, Mathis realized the price of his defiance might be higher than he had ever imagined.
I feel like adding subtle character reflection and adding sensory descriptions like smell and sounds are things I've struggled with the most in the last month I've been writing my story.

2024.05.16 20:14 This_Conversation493 The Tempest Discussion

So, I finally got around to watching a production of The Tempest (The Globe's 2013 version starring Roger Allam, FYI), and I made some reflections on it that I wanted to write down.
Feel free to respond to any points and get a discussion going!
  1. Are we expected to root for Prospero from the beginning? Or, given historical context and the Romance genre's tragedy-comedy fusion, does Shakespeare expect our first impression to be that he's some tragic antihero? After all, the premise of the play is essentially that of a revenge tragedy, and early 17th century Britbongs weren't keen on magicians, as I understand it. Shakespeare also shows us Prospero's darkness with the opening tempest scene and the later comment on the storm, "Hell is empty, And all the devils are here" (1.2.252-3), plus his tormenting Alonso's party with the harpy vision in Act 3 Scene 3. Moreover, it's hard to root for Prospero in getting his dukedom back, since he freely admits to having been negligent and irresponsible, devoting his time to his magical studies.
  2. Relatedly, are we meant to take Prospero's framing of how he lost Milan in Act 1 Scene 2 at face value, or should we be critical of Prospero's authority to shape our perception of the play? After all, Prospero repeatedly lies and messes with other people's understanding of reality - his accusations against Ferdinand (1.2.541 onwards), his evasion of Ariel bringing up the promise he made to free him (1.2.290-354), getting Ariel to lie to Alonso and say his son is dead (3.3.93-4), etc. Moreover, Prospero's magic is fundamentally a power to conjure illusions and the play's story is him using misdirection and manipulation to get what he wants. Elsewhere in his work, Shakespeare seems ambivalent about usurpation - Claudius and Duke Frederick are evil, while Henry IV and Henry VII are the good guys - so I feel that, in principle, he could be leaning either way.
  3. Is the play just.... not very good and a really boring story? I've seen it argued pretty widely that the problem with The Tempest is there's no real conflict or struggle, in a narrative sense. Prospero has a goal of retrieving his dukedom and he just... does it, apparently without facing any real threats or hindrances. People usually identify the fundamental problem as being his magic - when Prospero wants something done, it's just "Come with a thought. I thank thee, Ariel. Come" and then Ariel does it "to the syllable". In the place of narrative conflict, there's spectacle. I feel particularly conflicted here because I loved reading The Tempest, but it just left me cold seeing it performed. Did I watch a dud production, or does it just not work on stage?
  4. Relatedly, Prospero's conversion to the path of forgiveness just felt unconvincing. It doesn't happen until literally the start of the final scene of the entire play, and the only reason he changes tune is because Ariel tells him how sad Alonso and his men look...? But Prospero literally watched the prior harpy episode first-hand, and seeing his magic distress Alonso's men didn't put pity in him or temper his wrath then. I guess since then he's had the entire "We are such stuff" monologue in Act 4, and thinking about mortality and impermanence has him questioning if revenge and strife are worth it...? But he immediately follows that monologue by using another vision to torment Caliban and co and declares "At this hour Lies at my mercy all mine enemies", so I have no idea what Prospero's thought process is.
  5. Likewise, the big confrontation at the end felt really anticlimactic. Especially since there's literally no confrontation between Prospero and Antonio, the person he most had it in for. Antonio literally gets a single line in Act 5 and it's just him making fun of Caliban, so what gives?
  6. For a final (potentially) weak plot point, the Caliban/Stephano/Trinculo rebellion is... frustrating. For one thing, why does Caliban want Stephano in power to replace Prospero - "I prithee, be my god" (2.2.155) - given that he's so adamant earlier that "This island’s mine by Sycorax, my mother" (1.2.396)? As I see it, there are three possible explanations, none of which feel convincing. First, you could explain it by Caliban being genuinely convinced Stephano's a god for his "celestial liquor"? But that's just not believable, since Caliban has met a literal wizard with magical powers he claims could control a god (1.2.448-9) yet whom he recognises to be a mortal human, so why is he suddenly so oafish as to be persuaded by Stephano's alcohol? That leads to the second sub-idea: Caliban got drunk, so he's not thinking straight. But the humour of this entire subplot is Caliban being sharper and more rational than the motley crew he's assembled to lead the rebellion, hence the eloquent, artful "The isle is full of noises" monologue and the pitiable scene of him trying to get Stephano and Trinculo to stay focused in Prospero's cell in Act 4 Scene 1. So, third and final explanation, maybe Caliban is pretending to worship Stephano as part of his own Prospero-esque manipulative scheme to get his homeland back? But, for one thing, he seems sincere when he laments "What a thrice-double ass Was I to take this drunkard for a god" (5.1.352-3). (Unless he's pretending in order to get mercy from Prospero?) For another thing, it doesn't feel like Shakespeare wanted me to think this hard and read between the lines with this subplot. It just feels like a silly bit of comic relief and that makes it frustrating.
  7. Finally, what's the deal with Caliban? I'm aware I'm opening a conversation here that many Shakespeare Redditors loathe, but is Caliban meant to be a human victim of colonisation, and are the references to him being a "monster" just abuse? Or is he a literal monster? My main gripe with the latter, more traditional reading, is that it seems to deprive The Tempest of one of the principal virtue's of Shakespeare's work, namely his penchant for complex, realistic, morally ambiguous characters. If Caliban is just an innately depraved beast who gets no humanisation beyond a brief, pretty soliloquy, then it makes him feel very flat. Going back to point 6, maybe this just the shallower comedy side of the play shining through? It also ties back to point 1 and whether or not Prospero is truly a "hero" in any conventional sense. Are there just good guys and bad guys in The Tempest? Or is it more mature than that?

So I had got hired at my local Walmart and started at $14 per hr and worked there for about maybe 1 month before they fired me. I showed up on time. Till I got into an accident and totaled my daily driver then had to rely on a ride at which even then I would still show up before the 10 minute lead way they give you for clocking in. I did my job and not only that they assigned me the hardest job in the store everyday! I would come in and they would say we need you to work the freezer! Just note the freezer is between -8 degrees and -30 says it right on the door! They had hired multiple other people to my department and not one had to work the freezer or even swap with me for a day! Whenever they would be told to work it they would complain and bitch saying it’s too cold then they would call me over to replace them and they would just get to go work easier jobs! So I went on and kept doing my job till one day they hired another guy who i was now supposed to teach the job role too/train! I do my job and try to teach him. While asking him some things about the job and he wasn’t paying any attention and he said I quote “sorry man I couldn’t pay attention to what you were saying cause I was looking at that hot chicks ass at the end of the isle” I almost lost it and quit at that point but I didn’t! Later that day I go into the office and report it to the team lead saying I don’t think he would be a good candidate in the most respectful way possible! Next day I come in and I work my shift (7am-4pm) and at 3:30pm my team lead pulls me inside to say I have 5 points and am terminated! My app only showed 1 point and they never brought to my attention any of the other 4 points! Because they were bullshit and made up. Not to be a racist but the team lead and the other team lead as well as all the following employees that were hired after me were black or of Hispanic decent! I did say some choice words towards the team leads as I felt used and slaved so now I’m banned from all Walmarts apparently! Sounds like discrimination to me! Thanks for reading this giant monologue hope it helps you better decide on whether to work for a company like this abomination! Glad I got banned that’s just another customer a crap company loses!

2024.05.16 18:36 Ok-Lab3216 Audition Monologue Help

Hello everyone!! First time posting, I hope this is ok :)
I’m submitting an audition for a local production of Midsummer Night’s Dream for the role of Helena. Playing her would be an absolute dream come true for me so I want to make sure I nail this haha.
For the audition, we have to submit a comedic monologue from one of Shakespeare’s other plays. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m trying to find one that is similar to Helena’s character.
Thanks so much!

2024.05.16 17:32 Cherryredsocks Black sheep

Lately my mom has been talking to me as if I’m a outsider or something, she keeps saying things like “my children (when referring to her sons) or the kids” as if I’m not one of them, I don’t know if she’s monologuing or if she forgets I’m her child, there doesn’t seem to be a place in my family for women having a boy mom is just…. I’m over it.

2024.05.16 17:18 TheDismalOubliette Relistened to Add Violence for the first time in years

I’ve been a NIN fan since I was a teenager and although I was too caught up with The Downward Spiral, the Fragile and Broken to enjoy Not the Actual Events as I got into NIN into 2016, Add Violence gripped me when it came out. I was involved with the old Discord group heavily back then, and I remember vividly the speculation about the title after Trent Reznor released just a few letters of it. Once it was out me and an IRL friend were particularly pleased that we got our Physical Components early - he lived just a few minutes away from me at the time and the postman delivered mine shortly after so he was hyping me up.
Over the years NIN has slipped from the number one spot in my personal musical hierarchy because I mellowed out quite a bit and didn’t find as much solitude in albums that focused heavily on (rightful) existential angst in the form of anger. I didn’t like Bad Witch and still don’t, but I sat down to listen to Add Violence to reminisce some.
I’m so glad I did. This was NIN at its 21st century peak. It wasn’t as catchy as With Teeth or as rough and garage sounding as The Slip nor did it tell a clear story like Year Zero, but it was so tight. The lyrics are superb throughout in a way we hadn’t seen in a while, and the atmosphere was frankly perfect - The Lovers is still my favourite NIN track and it’s thanks to the songs atmosphere that I stand by this. It puts you right in that position of nervous urgency and tension, and the use of the Luminist Garden to provide the otherworldly background sounds is incredible because it surrounds you with imagery that sounds familiar but is twisted and hard to place.
Speaking of, This Isn’t The Place is probably the most raw NIN song since Hurt and whilst Hurt had the barrier of TDS being about a character rather than purely Trent Reznor, This Isn’t The Place feels like the closest come to Trent Reznor’s inner monologue. I love how stripped back this song is, and I usually dislike the notion of ‘stripped back’ musicality because it often feels like an attempt to make up for uninspired musicianship. It feels genuine here though, and it’s a highlight even if it’s often too uncomfortable for me to listen to.
Not Anymore is an exceptional song because it’s got all the aggression of Not the Actual Events’ songs without the harsh noise that characterizes that album - that noise makes NTAE what it is, but it’s nice to hear a track that’s reminiscent of NTAE but contextualised within another space. It has some exceptionally strong vocal moments too, and I’d say this was the end of TR’s vocals being quite this strong.
The Background World is a fun song with strong lyrics and an exceptional instrumental, and although the ending caught a lot of flak I loved it. I loved the loop being imperfect and the number of loops reflecting the number of years that Trent Reznor had been alive at that point. Each imperfect loop represented another year, each loop decaying to represent age, and each loop telling a story even if it requires some counting. It’s an exceptional closer, and it’s bittersweet to me because it marks the end of NIN for me as I love NIN, I have for a long time and I’ve seen them live and been involved in the community, but I never thought they came close to matching this EP with Bad Witch or Ghosts.
I’m glad I returned to Add Violence. It represented a time where music was becoming more and more important to me, and it bridged my love of physical art and packaging and tangible experiences with an album that is hard to beat in many respects. Add Violence represented hype and the rare circumstance of hype living up to expectations. With a bit of luck I will never forget those times I had with this album!
Thank you all for reading this. I wanted to share this experience with other NIN fans because I’m so glad to be a part of this community even if my tastes have altered over the years. I’m looking forward to another NIN album and tour - and I know I’ll be there!

So I understand this properly…the voices/entities like Half Light, Authority etc are literally just the detective’s thought process/inner monologue? If it’s some spoiler thing don’t tell me, but if that’s all it is it’ll help me keep up with what’s going on.

2024.05.16 15:38 Sad_Philosopher_2107 “Fat Kid Trauma”

I can say fat kid because I was a fat kid. I’m still a fat kid, though I’m a 40 yr old woman with a healthy bmi.
From the day I could comprehend, I knew people didn’t feel the same way about me as they felt about skinny people. I was born fat. I know that seems impossible, but I was. The weight was always there. And the world let me know it. The bullying was relentless: “gimme gimme girl” they would scream behind me as I walked home from school “gimme cookies gimme candy gimme cake”. The only natural thing for me to do was create value in my other characteristics: well sure, I’m fat… but hey, I can be funny, I can be quick witted, I can be smart. So I started off on that journey to get a leg up on others with my other offerings. I can’t be prettier than the other girls because I’m fat, but I can surely be funnier. I can certainly be brighter. Those things are easy!
This value system has paved the way for my entire life. Add in the lifelong diet I shackle myself with because now I have the tools to “control my weight”. Come to find, still not good enough. Becoming thin didn’t make me love myself. I couldn’t just switch off the 20 years of shame. The feeling of “less than” seems like it will never go away.
Now how does this manifest in adult life? Well the constant people pleasing, the quest to be “better” than evryone, the constant fight to earn a seat at the table. Work is hard. I seek validation often … “am I good enough for you, boss?”, “am I outperforming my peers?”. Because if I’m not, AND I’m fat and ugly, well than I’m just a big pile of steaming dog shit.
I’m here today because … I have a 14 yr old daughter. You guessed it, I find myself trying to control her weight. She’s not overweight, but she has a healthy appetite. Today she had a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, a hash brown, and fruit. Like most days, she makes it a point to have a hearty breakfast. This triggers me into fight or flight mode. My instinct is to “save” her from herself. My internal monologue is “Don’t get fat! Don’t end up like me! I hate myself, and you’ll hate yourself too if you’re fat! Because everyone else will hate you. And you’ll have zero self worth like your dear ol mom.” Externally I think I’m being sly. I’ll make small remarks. Micro aggressions. “Oh, maybe apples and peanut butter is enough” or “breakfast really isn’t that important, it’s a marketing scheme they made up to sell cereal”. She’s not dumb. She knows I’m shaming her. Now, to my defense, I used to be a lot better at keeping my thoughts to myself. This year, her freshman year, I’ve been struggling to put a lid on it. Having more exposure to the skinny pretties of American high school life has triggered me. It’s something I could never be, despite the back-to-back eating disorders. We would be foolish to disillusion ourselves as parents; we systematically point our kids in the direction we wanted for ourselves. It’s a shame, but it that’s how we’ve domesticated a great deal of our society. I’m not blind, I know I’m doing it. It’s a start.
I can’t have these discussions with my friends or family because I get “I’m sorry, in what world do you think you’re less than? You’re healthy, beautiful, successful, talented, and blessed”. It’s smoke and mirrors. I created those characters by design so OTHERS would accept me. I’m an imposter.
So, with that, can anyone (without making me feel worse) drop some knowledge on healing? I know I’m the problem, that’s not up for debate. How can I love myself so I don’t f’ up my kid? How can I devalue physical appearance when it shaped my entire life?

2024.05.16 15:25 femininitie CoM question about Celaena & Chaol & Sam

I’ve read AB and ToG and just started CoM - I’m confused about these conversations Chaol and Celaena have and then Chaol’s thoughts a few pages later.
When they intentionally bump into Archer and he talks about Sam, Chaol has this inner monologue in the third image (never knew that C & S crossed paths, that she had loved him, that she got captured seeking revenge)… but a few pages earlier (first two images) they were talking about the night she got captured and she says she was there seeking revenge for Sam who loved her very much.
She recently told him all the things he’s claiming to not know.
Is this just an error in the writing? Am I missing something?

2024.05.16 15:10 Afr0_samvrai [SPOILERS] Ben. S3 EP9

His monologue at the very beginning of the episode completely shook me. Although not as intense, I suffer from the same diagnosis as Ben. I’ve never seen it portrayed with such brutal but calm honesty. I re watched it several times. It’s crazy because I could have said those same words at some point. The point about remembering what my brain was like before it went bad. Couldn’t stop crying haha. Haven’t cried like that in 20 yrs.

2024.05.16 11:39 Competitive-Bed-5968 First date with older man, he heavily dominated conversation and gives off teacher energy - is this common?

F(28) and had a first date with M(48). He seems to tick all of my boxes and we share the same values and goals for the future. However, he would frequently tell a story in a long, overly drawn out and detailed monologue style and I found myself zoning out sometimes and wondering when he will get to the point lol! He is a very intelligent men and clearly has a lot to share, but it sort of felt like I was being taught and constantly learning from an elder. In some ways, I do value this because I love that he can teach me new things, and he said he finds it endearing that he can do so.. but it just felt like he heavily dominated the conversation and I just sat and listened and contributed where possible. To be fair, he did also ask me questions and give me a chance to speak too but it was easy for him to takeover from that too. Could this be first date nerves, is this common in age gap relationships? Or just his personality?
P.S we are dating for marriage, not SD/SB
