2024.05.14 02:23 phn0rd Deactivated for 2 extenuating lateness incidents in my second week – advice??

I've been driving for DoorDash for about a month now. In that time, I've maintained a solid 5.0 rating with 15+ customer reviews, a 99% completion rate and a 93% acceptance rate – and have taken almost 150 orders
I had 2 incidents occur back in my second week, while still learning. Somehow these incidents resulted in 3 separate Extreme Lateness violations... and now my account is deactivated, a week and a half later
The first involved an order assigned on Long Island in Rush Hour, that I was given 5 minutes to pick up, and then asked to drive all the way into New York City (specifically deep into Queens). I would have reassigned that, but had no idea how at that point. Making it across town while on the highway going the opposite way during rush hour was impossible in 20 minutes, let alone 5; I didn't pick up the order until 8:04 PM, and was given another 5 minutes to somehow get it all the way into NYC at 8:08 PM???? It was over an hour drive to the dropoff, so I don't know how they thought that was possible
That single delivery resulted in 2 separate violations – one for pickup and one for drop-off 😭
Then, about a week later, I had my second incident occur. This time, I picked up on time, was given an appropriate amount of time to get to the customer – I got there within 5 minutes of the window. But upon arrival, there was nowhere to park, the customer took forever to buzz me in, and the slow-running elevator meant I didn't drop-off until 12 minutes late.
12 minutes late – and that resulted in my 3rd violation.
I've been anxiously sitting with those on my account, after submitting disputes when they occurred – and the worst came to past today, with my account getting deactivated
I've submitted an appeal through the form. I explained the situation very clearly. I showed records of my ratings as well, talked about how much I love driving for DoorDash, asked for leniency given my second week on the app...
I don't know who will read it, I don't know how that will go. I'd like to try other channels if at all possible
Does anyone have any advice? Any numbers to call to explain my situation? Support numbers that can actually help? Corporate numbers to appeal to? Email addresses to write to?
I was really enjoying working for DoorDash, and doing great at it; I really don't want to end this career here

2024.05.14 02:04 Traveler_333 What would you do if...

You were waiting to drive out of your small street at an rv park and there is a maintenance manager in his huge truck pulls up, parks in the roadway and his young female employee who was driving a golf cart and was driving ahead of you suddenly stops to talk to her maintenance manager. They don't pull over to another place to chat. They just stay in the road way chatting. Dont look your way to acknowledge you. Would you sit there and allow them to chat on and on? Would you just reverse since no one was behind you? Or Would you say something for them to let ya on by?
Well, we(hubby and I) waited and waited and waited. I was telling my hubby to be patient but he was hurting tired from all the Dr visits he went to and had acupuncture done as well. We wanted to get back home and rest. We were almost there but they rudely didn't care that they were stopping traffic.
So, hubs says out the window "Excuse us, you all are blocking, can we drive-through?"
We drive on by, go to our spot and here comes the young employee driving by real slow and looking at us, our rv, our lot and mouthing to herself our spot number. She gave us a rude look and stared us down. I dont take kindly to that kind of stare down.
I got out of the car and walked until I encountered her blabbing to her male coworker. I could hear her talking about what had occurred. I walked up to her, introduced myself, and asked for her name. She spotted back. "Hunny, I don't have to tell you my name." I was taken back by her response. I told her don't call me Hunny. I introduced myself again and said my name and what lot I was in. She was passive-aggressive in her tone and the way she said "hunny." I told her they were being rude by not moving out of the way, and yet she was acting as if we were the rude ones.
I'm 49 and she is in her 20's? But talking to me like I'm younger than her or as if I was her peer.
Where does she get off?
If I were an employee here, I wouldn't have allowed that incident to happen.
Even if he was my boss. I would suggest for us to pull over somewhere else and not block the roadway.
Yet, She acted like I was a Karen and kept saying wow, as I walked away. I was appalled. My hubby called the front office, and they said they will talk to her. But I don't feel safe nor happy here anymore.
Was I wrong to talk to her about the incident to explain our side and how I felt threatened by her doing her slow drive by?? We were trying to stay here a while, but not if they are hiring rude employees like her and her maintenance manager.

2024.05.14 02:03 villainouscinema The Passenger (2023) via Villainous Cinema

a review by Evan Landon
It is extremely easy to get let down by movies, especially these days.
Most of everyone has been beleaguered with remakes, reshoots that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, even poorly written films because the writers that were never meant to be included had to be from studio interference that gives the film a stink of apathy and disdain that clearly conveys not only the actors, but the entire studio themselves while the ones counting the money care very little over a budget or art.
Me too. I like to find solace in the little known movies that are able to fly under the radar enough to where we can all relax and let good filmmakers do what they do best: create art. You do not need a huge, million dollar endeavor to do that. I guess the closest thing to something like that could be the new “Dune” movies, but I am in the middle of my thesis-esque statement on that, which I am sure will be either overlooked in its entirety or considered impressive by fans of both the films and the lore when it comes out. I am getting a bit off track here, so let's examine “The Passenger” for now.
It is easy to shit on “bad movies” and I know this because I made an entire podcast around it. I have even written about them because low-hanging fruit is easy. This is not that kind of movie.
I will spell out the premise for you, without spoiling anything: a young man named Bradley lives in a small town where he works at a fast food place that hardly has any business. He is asked by his manager if he wants to be an assistant manager because of his work ethic and quiet demeanor. Upon hearing this, he stands up to the bully at work who in turn makes him eat a hamburger that had been sitting there overnight. The quiet co-worker he works with then goes to the trunk of his car, grabs a shotgun, and executes everyone except for Bradley. What ensues is the two embarking on a psychological, coming-of-age trip with all of the hallmarks of a thriller that only Blumhouse can provide.
In a world of movies that refuse to miss the mark, this one them in almost every single way; I said, “almost.” There are a few glaring plot hole that stand out, but the exposition is quick to expound on. The world the characters inhabit is very much like our own and that truly brings it into focus.
What really sets this whole movie off is Kyle Gallner, who in my mind, has truly captured the taste of a great indie movie actor. He is constantly hitting it out of the park! The pacing by Carter Smith (The Ruins) is absolutely superb and every slight nuance is caught in measure, so that goes very far for him as a passionate director with a nose for what works in a movie.
I bit my thumbnail down to the bone with the experience, so this is definitely an overlooked, taught thriller if I have ever seen one. Definitely check it out!
3.5 out of 5

2024.05.14 01:27 Haunting_My_Wife My 5th wheel has these spiders all over!

My 5th wheel has these spiders all over!
I’ve been bitten 3 times in the past week and a half.
Found one this morning while taking a shower. I ending up killing quickly unfortunately, but found this one dead on the floor in front of me on the floor here a few minutes ago.
It looks like something I don’t want to mention. Don’t have a magnifying glass to see how many eyes it has..
One of the bites grew into a pretty big lump, then went back down and shows a blister now.
Here are few photos. Someone help me out here!!!!
I’m in the Detroit area for work, but the RV was parked in Southeast, TN for a long time.
Thanks!!

2024.05.14 01:04 Top_Blacksmith2242 Kinlochleven to Fort William via Am Bodach

I'm curious about feedback on a route from Kinlochleven to Fort William that goes along the peaks of Am Bodach and Stob Ban. This is a route showing up on All Trails, but there are few reviews. My wife and I are in shape for the elevation changes and distance but we are wondering about the safety (we don't want level 3 scrambles or walking on perilous ledges).
Also are there any cuts back down to WHW? We are just looking for how to add.more elevation to thisast leg of the journey.
Thanks for all insights! We'll be out there late June.

2024.05.14 01:01 johnaires Divided We Watch (Civil War Review)

Divided We Watch
TLDR; Movie Review - Civil War
Whew! I just watched the movie, Civil War.
I have a lot to say, but don’t think I’ll be capable of unpacking it all articulately enough to express myself, without coming off as a disgruntled, far-right nutjob. Because I’m not one. If you must know, I’m only a touch right-of-center in my ideology. An Independent, to tell the truth. But nowadays, it seems, if the needle isn’t buried on the left side of the meter, you are officially a disgruntled, far-right nutjob.
But before you start grinding your molars and turning the page, hear me out.
Oh, and I’m going to try not to – but if a spoiler slips past me, you’ve been warned.
For starters, let me make clear that I am not fooled for a millisecond by the movie’s main intent. It is leftist propaganda at its finest. It’s the Nazi’s Triumph of the Will; Orwell’s 1984; and the Ku Klux Klan’s Birth of a Nation, all rolled into one, but with a fifty-million-dollar budget – the most expensive movie ever made by A24 Productions. There is a passing scene in the movie where actress Cailee Spaeny, playing Jessie, a bright-eyed, upstart photojournalist, while fawning over her idol, the legendary war photographer, Lee Smith, played by Kirsten Dunst, talks about the award-winning shot at “The Antifa Massacre” that made Lee famous. This seems to suggest Antifas are noble freedom fighters, but forgets the real life destruction of the Berkley Riots; the Portland Protests, and the Seattle Autonomous Zone, where a capital city was held hostage for nearly a month.
The movie’s release, hot on the heels of the 2024 Presidential election, was by design, not coincidence. You know it. I know it. We all know it. Hollywood wants this movie fresh in everyone’s minds when they go to the polls. The movie is a calculated foreshadowing. The message: “Elect the Orange Guy and this will happen to our country.”
The movie is Hollywood’s love letter to the Liberal elite and mainstream media’s wettest dream.
Some of the best war movies in cinematic history are those that portrayed a certain ambiguity about war, and humanized both sides and their causes. Just who was the Good Guy and who the Bad, was a little fuzzy, at times. Hell in the Pacific; Platoon; and Letters from Iwo Jima, come to mind. Civil War is not one of those films, even if it pretended to be by making its Dark Side an alliance of two regions of the United States that are about as ideologically compatible as AOC and MTG.
So, don’t think I’m fooled. I’m not. The movie is, indeed, all of the above. But let me tell you what else it is.
It’s the best movie I’ve seen in years.
The cinematography is breathtaking. The acting, superb. The action sequences, heart-pounding. Director Alex Garland paints with exquisite, horrifying detail what life (and death) would be like for us all if the United States of America tore itself apart from within. One brutal battle scene that really sticks with me, is set against the backdrop of a place that symbolizes the very essence of peace, love and happiness. The juxtaposition is jarring. But it is a very real reminder that there is no escape from the terrible ravages of war.
While I cannot deny there were times in the movie I found my slightly-right-of-center molars grinding – especially with its mocking portrayal of our nation’s leader and 50% of our country’s population – I could not dislike this movie. When the battle reached our nation’s capital and the tracer rounds were peppering the Lincoln Memorial, I literally felt sick to my stomach – and so profoundly sad to watch the desecration of a place I have always considered a sacred symbol of our Country. Though I could smell the popcorn in the air and knew it was only a movie, my heart broke at the realization that we Americans are a deeply divided People.
“Why?” I asked my wife as we pulled out of the parking garage on our way home (She hated the movie, by the way). “Of the millions and millions of smart, righteous, decent people in America, WHY are we stuck having to choose from these two? Isn’t there anyone out there who’s had enough of this bickering and this gridlock and these endless insanely costly, senseless Congressional hearings? Won’t anyone else step up to the plate?
Civil War is a great movie and I strongly recommend it. Beyond the thrilling entertainment it offers, it makes you stop and think long and hard about the perilous State of our Union.
We need to be Americans. Not Republicans. Not Democrats. AMERICANS. We need to build up, not tear down. To compromise. To get along. To be proud of our Country and be a Nation that is admired and envied by the rest of the world.
We need to heed the words of caution told to us 166 years ago by the kind of Leader that seems to have gone the way of the dodo.
“A house divided against itself cannot stand…”
What did you all think?

2024.05.14 01:00 johnaires Divided We Watch

2024.05.14 00:40 HelpingLoser Understanding the Fort Washington/Oxon Hill Area?

My boyfriend and I are moving from suburban/rural St. Louis to Maryland this summer. Yesterday I applied to rent a rather nice and rather expensive home in Fort Washington. I did a quick crime check on the immediate area before I applied and didn't see anything concerning. However, after looking up Oxon Hill (which seems very close) I saw mixed reviews on Reddit.
Although the home is in Fort Washington and near a large wooded area, it's only about 7 minutes from the Oxon Hill shopping area/library. For some additional context, without being too specific, it's about a mile south of the Rosecroft Raceway as well.
Looking at google maps, the neighborhood seems nice. The photos were taken in 2023 and most homes were updated. Unfortunately, the there's a small stretch of street right around the home we would be renting which has photos from 2012 that look markedly less nice. It seems the homes were largely updated in the neighborhood since then, but it's hard to tell due to the old maps images directly in front of and around the home.
We are looking to understand:
  1. How safe is the area?
  2. Where are the safest (close) stores for general shopping and grocery shopping? We don't mind paying a bit more for a clean and quiet store (currently we shop at local grocery chains just to avoid the chaos of walmart).
  3. How dog friendly is this area?
  4. Is there anything else we should be worried about?
PS - If anyone is in the area and knows the neighborhoods well, please DM me and I can give a more specific information about the area to get a more accurate understanding.
Edit: Thank you all so much for your feedback... I think I am going to cancel my application. Although the house is absolutely stunning and it's everything we are looking for, the area is a huge dealbreaker. Usually I have scary dog privilege with my 100lb dog, but I saw posts from this area where people are carjacking cars with scarier looking dogs than mine. :') If my dog can't even save me I'm screwed.

2024.05.14 00:34 No_Possession2143 Local car shop told me not to pay and to leave after a heated argument, now they're demanding payment or will call the cops if I don't remove negative Google review

Basically I went to a shop for some brake work, and there was a miscommunication between the managers quote and my expectations for a brake flush. I just wanted a brake flush (108$) but the shop wanted to add a mandatory inspection (138$) since I told them the pedal was soft (anyone who knows cars would know after a flush, they would drive the car and let me know if the pedal is firm again). Later on the manager told me the total was 300$ (no flush was provided but apparently an "inspection" was). I politely informed him I never approved of the inspection, and I understand the impression that my issue would be answered after the post brake fluid flush test drive. After some back and forth I straight up told the manager "it's convenient how you hear things which benefit your business but not the customer" a little tongue in check joke. He took offense to that and after some arguing he told me to leave, how he didn't need my money and how he doesn't want my business. Before I left i entered the business to pay but the manager went to the back immediately. I waited in the parking lot for a couple of minutes before leaving, but was not approached by anyone so I left. Once I got home, I left a scathing Google review. I just let everything be known and left it at that
Here's the review:
"Things have changed since Charles was around. Damn shame. The current manager has poor customer skills if he gets offended by the statement "it's convenient how you hear what benefits your business but not the customer". All over the manager not quoting additional costs and fees associated with a brake fluid flush. 108$ brake fluid flush but it's mandatory that you have to pay 138$ for the inspection. So the fluid flush is actually close to 300$ with all fees. You have to make sure the car works perfectly after a flush and the post service drive and inspection should be included in the 108$ or the service of the fluid flush should have it incorporated from the start. Very predatory and not at all how this shop used to operate in decades past.
And the odds are the manager can't even accept his mistake and will scream like a little toddler as his customers. You can easily bet the manager is going to respond with a long winded statement to this review about how he's never in the wrong and how he's always in the right. It's easy to accuse your customers of always being right, when the responses to Google reviews shows an immature manager incapable of accepting that there was a miscommunication and to express how that won't happen in the future.
Do better or be better but acting sensitive over a factual statement shows how weak this business has become over the years.
Edit: 94$ for a brake fluid flush at AG, and 108$ at RG It's a sad day when the dealership is cheaper than Rg.
Edit: Jeff the manager called and threatened to call the cops on me if I don't take down the review for not paying for the inspection. The manager Jeff shouted over 2 times to get out of his office and not to pay and how he doesn't need my money. I was sitting in the parking lot for 5 minutes before I left and was not once approached by Jeff to pay. If he's threatening me like this, this is a poor taste in how this business operates."
(Names edited for privacy)
The second edit was done after the threatening phone call. Other than filing harassment charges on the business, is there anything I can do? Should I be worried about the business calling the cops on me? I tried to pay but the business owner blew me off the day of the incident and based on his word I left. If I have to pay, he's getting pennies.

2024.05.14 00:23 JoshJLMG What the heck, SPS?

There was a theft at my place of work... Again. It's a near-daily occurrence with many repeat offenders. The cops were called as it was happening and given updates on where the robbers were heading once they left.
5 - 10 minutes later, a bunch of patrol cars show up and patrol the area. At this point, the robbers would've already been several blocks away, so what does the SPS do? They have 4 SUVs do 4 - 5 laps of the block all in a line, like they're doing the Conga, before buggering off.
At one point, there was 6 or 7 police cruisers. They could've split up (they did initially to check nearby parking lots, but that was it), or at least check in with the store to review camera footage of the suspects and make sure everyone's okay, but nah. Just drive around in circles, that'll catch them.
I hope they did more than what I was able to see, but when you see the same 4 SUVs driving past the store for the fourth time in 10 minutes, you start to feel a little disappointed that they're not actually going to catch anyone... Again...

2024.05.14 00:16 TravelPupil CA Drivers: Did They Cut Your Hours With the $20/hourly?

I've been applying for a number of Domino's locations. The pay is now $20/hour here in CA since April 1st. But that could also be a bad thing if they cut hours down. Do any of you know? I'm currently doing DD and UE, but it's awful now with the tiered-program that DD has. UE hardly has any offers.
Also, if any of you are good at spotting busy locations, I'd like to PM you. I asked this before and someone said to park outside a Domino's and see how often drivers leave. I'm not sure that's a good way, though. You could do this at a slower than usual time. Is there a better way to gauge? Number of reviews on Google or something like that? Thank you.

2024.05.14 00:02 Rooster-Wild Weber Canyon incident 5/12

I was going eastbound in 84 through Weber Canyon at about 7:30pm yesterday. 84 westbound was shut down and there was a RV parked in the middle of the road surrounded by law enforcement. A lady was on the side of the road being arrested. Anyone got any details on this to satisfy my curiosity? I haven't been able to find anything.
