Guider II platform (build plate) not heating up, reporting 0C as current temp.
Hi,
I have an issue with my Guider II, the platform isn't heating up! It was working fine last time I used it, then went to print something recently and it doesn't heat up.
It's actually reporting 0C and if I go to preheat and set the platform temperature at 50C it doesn't even set the target, both current and target just stay at 0C / 0C, as in the pic.
https://preview.redd.it/off8b0ur5b0d1.jpg?width=2016&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5f5c9d5a14373c6e9e8fcc72025ddfbcaacf56e3
I unplugged and took out the platform heater, I was able to measure the resistance of the temp sensor, which I'm guessing is an NTC thermistor, as it measures ~103kohm at room temperature and changes when I touch it. So it looks like that is working, I'm guessing it may be the main processor board?
I've also tried to update the firmware, just in case that's corrupted!? But I can't seem to get that updated, it's on 1.5.2 and I see 1.5.3 is released, but it won't automatically update to that, it says it's on the latest already and downloading/copying to a USB stick just does nothing!
Is there anything else I can try? I'm an electronics engineer, so can look at the main board to see if anything's damaged, but that's a bit of hassle removing it and investigating etc. It may be worth just to buy a new one, unless there is a common fault on these boards?
Thanks in advance! Matt

2024.05.14 02:21 Tablefish06 GP10s are dogsh*t

I have tried seemingly everything to get my gp10 to record on external power only without a battery as I’m trying to use it as essentially a dash cam, I’m not running any demanding features like gps, stabilisation, horizon leveling just 1080p on 60fps, I’ve never gotten the overheating message I’m even using GoPro labs to tell the camera to trust the usb power, I’m running the camera off my cars cigarette lighter which is more then enough to run the camera power wise, and not using a dodgy sd card I’m using a Samsung evo plus 128gb card, even using a portable charger it’s still cuts out, it runs fine for 2 minutes and then shuts down.

2024.05.14 01:05 jankosrcka Citroen DS3 making weird noises when it turns on and when I turn the lights on/off

It started happening recently, I'm pretty sure it has to be something with electronics. I am not certain if the noise is coming from the speakers or not. Here is the video of me turning the calights on and off, and it making weird sounds. Any help is appreciated 👍🏻. I've already posted to Citroen and someone asked me if it was a prank, sadly it isn't. After the recording I went to the gas station to get cigarettes, and I drove with higher rpm than usually because I was a bit frustrated because of this problem. When I returned home and tried again to turn the lights on/off it worked normally. Now I don't really know how rpm may have affected this, but I'm still not satisfied because I'm looking for a permanent fix (the problem happened earlier and it stopped, but not with the lights). As I said above any help is appreciated.

2024.05.13 23:56 FozzTexx 2024 May 13 Stickied -FAQ- & -HELPDESK- thread - Boot problems? Power supply problems? Display problems? Networking problems? Need ideas? Get help with these and other questions!

Welcome to the raspberry_pi Helpdesk and Frequently Asked Questions!

Link to last week's thread
Having a hard time searching for answers to your Raspberry Pi questions? Let the raspberry_pi community members search for answers for you! Looking for help getting started with a project? Have a question that you need answered? Was it not answered last week? Did not get a satisfying answer? A question that you've only done basic research for? Maybe something you think everyone but you knows? Ask your question in the comments on this page, operators are standing by!
This helpdesk and idea thread is here so that the front page won't be filled with these same questions day in and day out:
  1. Q: What's a Raspberry Pi? What can I do with it? How powerful is it? A: Check out this great overview
  2. Q: Does anyone have any ideas for what I can do with my Pi? A: Sure, look right here!
  3. Q: My Pi is behaving strangely/crashing/freezing, giving low voltage warnings, ethernet/wifi stops working, USB devices don't behave correctly, what do I do? A: 99.999% of the time it's either a bad SD card or power problems. Use a USB power meter or measure the 5V on the GPIO pins with a multimeter while the Pi is busy (such as playing h265/x265 video) and/or get a new SD card 1 2 3. If the voltage is less than 5V your power supply and/or cabling is not adequate. When your Pi is doing lots of work it will draw more power. Even if your power supply claims to provide sufficient amperage, it may be mislabeled or the cable you're using to connect the power supply to the Pi may have too much resistance. You can use a USB load tester to test your power supply and cable. Some power supplies require negotiation to provide more than 500mA, which the Pi does not do. If you're plugging in USB devices try using a powered USB hub with its own power supply and plug your devices into the hub and plug the hub into the Pi.
  4. Q: I'm having a hard time finding a place to purchase a Raspberry Pi for an affordable price. Where's the secret place to buy one without paying more than MSRP? A: https://rpilocator.com/
  5. Q: I just did a fresh install with the latest Raspberry Pi OS and I keep getting errors when trying to ssh in, what could be wrong? A: There are only 4 things that could be the problem:
    1. The ssh daemon isn't running
    2. You're trying to ssh to the wrong host
    3. You're specifying the wrong username
    4. You're typing in the wrong password
  6. Q: I'm trying to install packages with pip but I keep getting error: externally-managed-environment A: This is not a problem unique to the Raspberry Pi. The best practice is to use a Python venv, however if you're sure you know what you're doing there are two alternatives documented in this stack overflow answer:
    • --break-system-packages
    • sudo rm a specific file as detailed in the stack overflow answer
  7. Q: The only way to troubleshoot my problem is using a multimeter but I don't have one. What can I do? A: Get a basic multimeter, they are not expensive.
  8. Q: My Pi won't boot, how do I fix it? A: Step by step guide for boot problems
  9. Q: I want to watch Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/Vudu/Disney+ on a Pi but the tutorial I followed didn't work, does someone have a working tutorial? A: Use a Fire Stick/AppleTV/Roku. Pi tutorials used tricks that no longer work or are fake click bait.
  10. Q: What model of Raspberry Pi do I need so I can watch YouTube in a browser? A: No model of Raspberry Pi is capable of watching YouTube smoothly through a web browser, you need to use VLC.
  11. Q: I want to know how to do a thing, not have a blog/tutorial/video/teachebook explain how to do a thing. Can someone explain to me how to do that thing? A: Uh... What?
  12. Q: Is it possible to use a single Raspberry Pi to do multiple things? Can a Raspberry Pi run Pi-hole and something else at the same time? A: YES. Pi-hole uses almost no resources. You can run Pi-hole at the same time on a Pi running Minecraft which is one of the biggest resource hogs. The Pi is capable of multitasking and can run more than one program and service at the same time. (Also known as "workload consolidation" by Intel people.) You're not going to damage your Pi by running too many things at once, so try running all your programs before worrying about needing more processing power or multiple Pis.
  13. Q: Why is transferring things to from disks/SSDs/LAN/internet so slow? A: If you have a Pi 4 or 5 with SSD, please check this post on the Pi forums. Otherwise it's a networking problem and/or disk & filesystem problem, please go to HomeNetworking or LinuxQuestions.
  14. Q: I only have one outlet and I need to plug in several devices, what do I do? A: They make things called power strips aka multi-tap extensions.
  15. Q: The red and green LEDs are on/off/blinking or the screen is just black or blank or saying no signal, what do I do? A: Start here
  16. Q: I'm trying to run x86 software on my Raspberry Pi but it doesn't work, how do I fix it? A: Get an x86 computer. A Raspberry Pi is ARM based, not x86.
  17. Q: How can I run a script at boot/cron or why isn't the script I'm trying to run at boot/cron working? A: Try one of these numerous solutions
  18. Q: Can I use this screen that came from ____ ? A: No
  19. Q: I run my Pi headless and there's a problem with my Pi and the best way to diagnose it or fix it is to plug in a monitor & keyboard, what do I do? A: Plug in a monitor & keyboard.
  20. Q: My Pi seems to be causing interference preventing the WiFi/Bluetooth from working A. Using USB 3 cables that are not properly shielded can cause interference and the Pi 4 can also cause interference when HDMI is used at high resolutions.
  21. Q: I'm trying to use the built-in composite video output that is available on the Pi 2/3/4 headphone jack, do I need a special cable? A. Make sure your cable is wired correctly and you are using the correct RCA plug. Composite video cables for mp3 players will not work, the common ground goes to the wrong pin. Camcorder cables will often work, but red and yellow will be swapped on the Raspberry Pi.
  22. Q: I'm running my Pi with no monitor connected, how can I use VNC? A: First, do you really need a remote GUI? Try using ssh instead. If you're sure you want to access the GUI remotely then ssh in, type vncserver -depth 24 -geometry 1920x1080 and see what port it prints such as :1, :2, etc. Now connect your client to that.
  23. Q: I want to do something that has been well documented and there are numerous tutorials showing how to do it on Linux. How can I do it on a Raspberry Pi? A: A Raspberry Pi is a full computer running Linux and doesn't use special stripped down embedded microcontroller versions of standard Linux software. Follow one of the tutorials for doing it on Linux. Also see question #1.
  24. Q: I want to do something that has been well documented and there are numerous tutorials showing how to do it with an Arduino. How can I do it on a Raspberry Pi Pico? A: Follow one of the tutorials for doing it on Arduino, a Pico can be used with the Arduino IDE.
  25. Q: I'm trying to do something with Bluetooth and it's not working, how do I fix it? A: It's well established that Bluetooth and Linux don't get along, this problem is not unique to the Raspberry Pi.
Before posting your question think about if it's really about the Raspberry Pi or not. If you were using a Raspberry Pi to display recipes, do you really think raspberry_pi is the place to ask for cooking help? There may be better places to ask your question, such as:
Asking in a forum more specific to your question will likely get better answers!
See the /raspberry_pi rules. While /raspberry_pi should not be considered your personal search engine, some exceptions will be made in this help thread. ‡ If the link doesn't work it's because you're using a broken buggy mobile client. Please contact the developer of your mobile client and let them know they should fix their bug. In the meantime use a web browser in desktop mode instead.

2024.05.13 23:42 cristi_furtuna Zoyi zt-702s, my cheap and terrible first oscilloscope

Hello, I want to address a problem I had with a Zoyi zt-702s digital oscilloscope. I had it charging from my laptop's USB port and coupled it to a live circuit to see and save a bmp of the waveform. The probe arced with the circuit and it shorted through my laptop so bad that my room's 16A breaker popped. The laptop is dead, it won't charge, start and i tested the RAM. It doesn't work, so the cpu might also be fried. The oscilloscope's charging circuit is also not working, but it starts on its own power. I want to know if there is any way to claim any form of compensation for the incident, or at least have the producer warn the users about the fact that charging your oscilloscope and using it at the same time might distroy the device where it's plugged in. I had bought it for uni, being an electronics and telecommunication student and it helped me, I dindn't expect to have such a great failure with it.

By hearing contradictory speeches, we no longer understand anything. So, are e-cigarettes really an effective aid for quitting smoking? Yes or no, is vaping better for your health than smoking? Answers from a tobacco specialist and an epidemiologist.
In 2022, 7.3% of 18-75 year olds reportedvaping, including 5.5% daily, according to the latest figures from Santé Publique France (source 1). In just a few years, smokers have adopted e-cigarettes as another means ofquitting smoking. However, in a July 2019 report, the World Health Organization (WHO) criticizedelectronic cigarettesfor being “unquestionably harmful”. So, what should we think about it?

2024.05.13 21:30 FlyingFishKing 2018 SE Additional Charging

Does anyone know a good way to add more charging ports to the 2018 SE? Could be either USB directly or cigarette style. I know the “X” trims come with it. Just wanting upgrade mine with more charging power.

2024.05.13 20:49 Pigspeakers Building a PC for audio production/music

I've been trying to put together a PC, but haven't been able to get feedback on the other subreddits I've tried. It will be mostly for audio production, so being able to run a lot of VSTs with minimal lagging and record audio with minimal latency are my top priority. It wouldn't hurt to be able to game and do some programming on it as well, although those aren't going to be the main use. I'm trying to keep the budget around $1000.
Here's what I've got so far:
I would like this build to last me as long as possible with room to upgrade in the future. Any feedback on what I could change or leave out would be greatly appreciated.

Why a diode measure differently on the PCB or not?
As a novice in electronics, I've been learning from various YouTube fix-it videos to troubleshoot issues. Recently, my 65W USB charger suddenly stopped providing output voltage without any apparent cause. To investigate, I decided to open it up and conduct some measurements.
One component that caught my attention was the diode labeled as D3, visible in the attached image. Using my multimeter in diode mode, I tested the diode in both directions, but it showed a short in both cases. This puzzled me, so I decided to desolder D3 from the board to conduct further testing.
Surprisingly, when I tested D3 off the PCB board, it measured fine with a voltage drop of 0.5V. Surprised by this discrepancy, I measured the two spots on the board where the diode was originally soldered, and they showed an infinite reading.
All other components shown in the image appeared to be fine based on my measurements.
I'm reaching out for advice on how to proceed with troubleshooting this issue further. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.13 19:55 Willard1975 Screen capture

Hey,
I have some issues screen capturing with my sound card. Video and microphone captures great. Applications/games using the regular sound card doesn't work. These are my devices:
cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [Audio ]: USB-Audio - Rift Audio Oculus Rift Audio at usb-0000:06:00.0-2.2, full speed 1 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH HDA Intel PCH at 0xfb930000 irq 64 2 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia HDA NVidia at 0xfb080000 irq 65 3 [Device ]: USB-Audio - USB PnP Sound Device C-Media Electronics Inc. USB PnP Sound Device at usb-0000:00:14.0-13, full spee
I fiddled with ffmpeg back in 2015, and I didn't have any issues with it back then. This was my original command line back in 2015:
ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i pulse -acodec pcm_s16le -f x11grab -r 30 -s 1920x1080 -i : 0.0 -vcodec libx264 -preset ultrafast -crf 0 -threads 0 output.mkv
It still works and the final result is good, but as I said, it doesn't capture the desktop audio anymore. I built a new computer in 2016, probably something has changed in my sound devices, but I have no idea what. Any suggestions? :)
I know OBS works great, but the video quality is really bad compared to ffmpeg.

2024.05.13 18:57 witac Is there a way to run data and power 60-70ft?

I’m a teacher and we use usb c hubs to run all of the electronics in our room. We plug in and it powers our laptops, puts sound through the av system, runs the projector, wired Ethernet internet, and I have a backup hdd plugged into it as well.
For freedom from the desk I’d love to run a usb c to usb c cable to the back of my classroom that would keep all of that functionality. Is this possible?

2024.05.13 18:42 ShmDoubleO Most bulletproof/best warrantied adjustable base?

Hi
Looking for a kingsize adjustable base to go with a new purple mattress I ordered.
Looking for head/feet adjustments. Don’t care about massaging/usb ports/lights etc. I want something built like a tank, hopefully replaceable motors/electronics and other parts, and a solid warranty. Trying to keep it under 1k if that’s realistic. Reliability+warranty > frills/gimmicks. Hopefully not too loud.

2024.05.13 18:34 JediBuji myvolts cable overheating and shutting down at an outdoor gig

had an unfortunate surprise yesterday at an outdoor gig. Air temp was close to 90 (f) but the stage had shade and airflow. It wasn't even warm enough to affect the performers that much.
Anyway, about an hour into the show, my stomp just shut off. At first I thought my usb battery might have discharged quickly or something, so I went to swap it for my backup. The usb end of my cable was so hot it burned my finger!! Luckily I also had a second myvolts cable available as I wasn't using my vocal processor, so I was able to switch back and forth on the cables to keep the show running, but they were both getting hot enough that the batteries' regulators would shut down the ports. happened on both batteries and they have been solid performers for me for about 2 years, including several shows in the heat in summer.
The only other oddball factor was the venue was particularly dusty. they had rugs and stuff down on the stage, but it was dusty enough that when you would stomp on the stage you would get good puff of dust. I'm guessing some of that dust found it's way into the battery port / usb end of the cable and was increasing the resistance, but I've had this rig in similar situations before without this behavior. I also blew out the ports as best as I could on stage and didn't see anything, plus the situation occurred pretty quickly on my backup battery, which had been in my gig bag until I took it out during the show.
I've got their new USBC adapter and have tried it out at home, but haven't gotten around to running it and a new cable in my board. I'm going to do some stress testing today in the sun to see if I can replicate the issue with my current (lol electronics pun) setup and then will try and compare the usbc version for similar behavior.
Just a friendly warning to those of you running on battery-powered boards getting ready for summer shows.

  3. Part 3
  4. Part 4
  5. Part 5
  6. Part 6

Everything is now working on the Acorn. As of this morning I have the Teknic motor driving the spindle, and really just need to do a bunch of tweaking in software to wrap it up.
Before we flipped the machine upright on Friday, I put a sheet of plexiglass underneath the Centroid USB-BOB board, to protect it from anything underneath the machine, and to keep any wires from drooping down and getting snagged on things.

https://preview.redd.it/taitt9oho70d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=152275ba82f1d25a121125629b6b86e06042016e
And once flipped back up the slant bed was bolted back down and I began work getting the spindle motor running.
https://preview.redd.it/mx7im7pto70d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=e6cec785315fa7fc099116cd8824cca0babc486d
The Teknic motor I have takes PWM, but the Acorn outputs 0-10V so I'm using a cheap voltage->PWM converter I bought on ebay.
https://preview.redd.it/qo1mw8s2p70d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=0788206dc4d5d365acb8a4295e5237eba0f715e6
Pretty straightforward: needs 7-30V to run so I tapped into the 24V stepper motor power supply. The 0-10V from Acorn and outputs a PWM pulse. you can adjust the frequency up to 20kHz, which is the minimum the teknic motor needs. Most of these only go to 3kHz PWM frequency, but this one goes higher and seems to work fine.
The PWM signal goes to the Teknic motor, and then using the Acorn relay board, I'm sending 24V to the Teknic enable and direction pins. All seems to be working as expected but the acceleration time is slow so there's some fine tuning to do in the Teknic MSP app.
But I can spin it up from Acorn CNC12, and I can control the spindle speed from the knob on the front control panel:
https://reddit.com/link/1cr2b00/video/4dpudfuyp70d1/player
And that's going to be the next big thing to work on. The pulley from the motor was always temporary because I don't have a lathe yet to bore out a bigger hole to properly fit it to the spindle shaft. First job will be to make a pulley that doesn't wobble so much. Once that's done, I'll make the mounting block for the motor base to attach it to the slant bed. Right now it rattles like crazy because it's only attached to the L-bracket and not the slant bed.
But now the Z and X axes and the spindle are all running under Acorn control, so it's pretty much just tweaking, setting soft limits, and learning how to use the software at this point. Feels like it's finally getting somewhere!
