2024.05.14 13:25 Puzzleheaded_Key6144 I'm taking my best friend's daughter on the trip we were supposed to go on.
Ever since we were little, we had made plans to go to Paris. I don't remember why, but our dream destination was Paris. We talked about it on sleepovers, and gave each other excited looks everytime a character spoke French on TV.
We graduated school, went to different colleges, did not talk to each other often, but when we met after, we fell back in step like the distance and lack of conversation did not matter, because that's how adult relationships are- You will not have the time to giggle about boys and Paris all day everyday anymore, that was my reasoning. And everyday, I regret not calling her up more often.
She married as soon as she graduated. Her husband was her long time boyfriend, and the best person ever for her. They had their first kid soon after, and life was so good with them all.
When her kid was 6 months old, they got into a brutal accident. My friend and her husband were killed on impact, but the baby survived with minor injuries.
Needless to say, I was devastated.
I got to know that I was listed by them as the baby's legal guardian. Her family only consists of her parents, who were ageing, and did not have the capacity to support a child anymore. They agreed with their child's decision.
Apart from the occasional babysitting I did for them, I had no clue how to take care of the baby, but I did not want her to end up in an orphanage either and so I took her in.
The first few months were hell. The baby did not understand her parents were gone, but she did feel their loss. Her cries and tantrums kept me up at night, it affected my work, my energy, and my health. I was in no way ready to be a caregiver, all while grieving the person I knew since kindergarten.
What other choice did I have? I stuck it out, and it gradually grew better. I got the hang of things, and worked hard to be a better mum. Of course, it wasn't always a breeze, and certain things still brought me to tears- like her baby calling me mumma, or her taking her first steps and her parents not being there to see it.
It's been 8 years since, and we're leaving for Disneyland Paris in 2 days. She knows I'm not her real mother, that we are not even related by blood, but we're doing very good. She still calls me mumma, and I consider her my own.
She's a happy, healthy kid, and I couldn't love her more. I'm still angry and sad over your loss, and I wish it didn't happened like this, but I am so glad she's my daughter, and that I'm such a huge part of her life. I hope you're okay with that Nimm?
I hope you can see yourself in her Nimm, I hope I've raised her well so far, and I will definitely let her have the lion's share of Hot chocolate, that was the deal between us wasn't it?

2024.05.14 07:08 nsfwtttt Travel fears due to origin country
I’m from Israel.
So let me start by asking that this not turn into politics or personal opinions, but rather advice and insights.
We’ve decided to give the kids a much needed break from reality, and take them to Disneyland Paris.
Aside from my guilt feelings of going to Disneyland while my country is suffering, and of taking my kids to Disneyland while my country is killing kids…
I’m literally dreading check-in. That moment I show my passport.
I told myself it’s Disney and CM’s will stay professional, but after the Eurovision stuff I’m a bit more worried, especially with antisemitic incidents in France on the rise.
Haven’t been in Europe since the war, I’m not sure what to expect.
In order to not make this a political thread I’d appreciate it if responses can stick to insights from Europe and what to expect, or advice, rather than political opinions (which I don’t mind in a DM, let’s just not ruin the party for everyone this is not a sub for politics).

2024.05.13 22:48 JTriggerMartin11 Lorcana Trading Cards Availability in DLP
Hey all! My family has recently gotten into the Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game. We will be over in Disneyland Paris this summer and would love to get some cards in French. Are there any shops on the property that sell the booster packs of the trading card game?
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.13 20:46 Queer_always Trip report April 24-26 + AMA
Hi Disneylanders! Back stateside, so as promised, here's a trip report from my three-day visit. This covers transport, staying at the Disneyland Hotel, several upscale meals, Premier Access, and my experiences with French vs English. (For Disneyland, CA fans, I'll make a separate posts with some comparisons and a different AMA.)
My stats, for reference: solo traveler (30sF) from California; fairly frequent visitor and amateur scholar of Disneyland, CA. Not a first timer but it had been 12 years. Competent in French.
Hang onto your hats and glasses, 'cause this here may get... detailed.
Transportation:
I took the TGV direct from CDG, so this was my first stop in the country, since I figured (correctly) that Disneyland energy would shake me out of jet lag. It's an easy trip and quick exit from Marne-la-Vallée, much smoother and faster than the RER. Baggage claimed to feet in the hotel lobby took less than an hour.
Disneyland Hotel and private entry:
The hotel was still guest-only while I was staying there. Beautiful premises and worth every penny. The whole place is full of charming details, and the views of the whole resort are unbeatable. It also offers the best food and drinks I had during my stay (will cover that next).
My room was an entry-level Superior near the far side of the West Wing. Very generously-sized, even by American standards, and well-appointed. Vaguely Little Mermaid-themed, and I had a small terrace (most rooms didn't seem to, but mine was rounding a corner).
Since you can only get in on the east (lobby) side, if you're staying in the West Wing, plan an extra couple of minutes of "commute" time to get from one end of the hotel to the other. The good news is that your walk takes you through the corridor with picture windows offering twin views of Disneyland Park and Disney Village, as well as past the bar and restaurants and shop. That said, it only took about 5 minutes total for me to get from the room to the park through the DLH guest-only entrance.
Speaking of said entrance: this might be one of the best perks. The guest-only entrance never had a wait, even three minutes before Extra Magic Hours opened. I was second through the turnstiles. There's an exit on that side as well, and save for my afternoon at Studios, it's the only entry and exit point I used.
Sit-down food and drink:
I'm from a very foodie/cocktail pioneering city in the US and have pretty high standards. I found the quick service food, on the few occasions I grabbed it, to be mediocre, but the sit-down meals were surprisingly good. Drink quality varied widely. I have rated them based on a combo of food quality and atmosphere.
My assessments:
Disneyland Hotel Breakfast: I was one of the last seated on both days, and they seated me right next to a window overlooking the park in the Lumière section of the restaurant. Viennoiserie and other things were good, but the highlights were the fresh smoothies and the eggs. I've never had such a silky scramble in my life. Food 5/5 for the eggs alone. Experience 5/5.
Captain Jack's (lunch): The Caribbean version of Blue Bayou, and as charmingly themed. Nothing like being greeted with "bonsoir" in the early afternoon. Food was not great, though, and my cocktail was sugary and weak. Food 2.5/5, experience 4/5.
L'Auberge de Cendrillon (dinner): Immersive Fantasyland space and pretty good 3 course dinner. I requested the characters not interact with me, since I'm there for atmosphere, and they complied. Food 4/5, experience 4/5.
Walt's (lunch): Great view of Main Street, fun story, decent but not great food/wine. Loved touring the different themed rooms, and they were happy to let me. Food 3/5, experience 4/5.
La Table de Lumière (dinner): Delightful experience, stunning interior, excellent food by Disney standards, enjoyed the champagne tasting and a beautiful cocktail to start (they froze a rose inside an ice spear). The royal couples did in fact all stop to talk to me, even when I made it clear I didn't need them to; it was easier to just comply than explain. I don't fault them for it. Food 5/5, experience 4.5/5.
Fleur de Lys (nightcap and one midday cocktail break): Charming and comfortable interior with royal crests, and pretty darn good cocktails (though they put soda water in their old fashioned, which is heresy). I sat at the bar and chatted a lot with the staff, and they kept putting nice little treats in front of me to snack on. The drinks are expensive, but it's a great adults-only refuge. Cocktails 4.5/5, experience 5/5.
Agrabah Café Restaurant (lunch): Moroccan/Mediterranean buffet, pretty good quality. The space is incredibly cool and meticulously detailed: best story design of the restaurants in my opinion. The carafe wine was decent and an amazing value. Food 4/5, experience 4.5/5.
Premier Access:
I'm allergic to lines longer than 15 minutes and, in California, am really good at circumventing them through planning. Paris has much lighter lines in general, at least during my visit, but when I saw 30m and up with no single rider line, I'd pay a few euros to skip. As a solo visitor, I was a walk-on for everything but the Avengers coaster (that queueing system is a nightmare) with the Premier pass.
I tried out both individual and daily passes. Would recommend the individual, but not the daily. Not sure how they price things dynamically, but the day pass cost like 160 euros for me. I was rushing to get my full value out of it all day, based on individual pass cost, and failed to break even. It was way more stress than fun.
French vs English (edited for clarity):
I often get clocked as not French before I even start speaking, so cast members addressed me in English unsolicited about a third of the time, but I did feel like I got treated better (and certainly got more interesting conversation, secrets, tips etc) when I answered their English with French. (For reference, I’m probably a borderline B2/C1 at the moment, with an accent most people don’t pin down as American but can tell is non-native.) Happy to share more in AMA.
I'll be back with some Paris/Anaheim comparisons. Thanks again to everyone who gave me tips beforehand; it was super helpful!

From her instastory, it shows she went to Euro Disney (or I guess it's called Disneyland Paris now). Because she has to be the obnoxious American who seeks out anything American while in FRANCE. sigh. She really soaked up that French culture, huh? smh.

11:30 Monte Cristo at Royal Veranda
11:52 Disney Train around the park
12:20 Exit
Head back to the Hotel, pick up the car and drive home.
What I liked -
- Our plan, and time management,
- Being able to leave the car at Disney Hotel for the day even after check out
- Bounding and pictures with characters
- All the Indy effects seemed to be working, and that was great
- We got on everything we wanted
What wasn't working
- Kylo jumping on the elevator light saber effect
- Space broke a lot, and I want REGULAR Space Mtn
- 2nd time on the jungle cruise at night, the guide was weird(er than normal) giving off serial killer vibes.
- We powered through the first day, we'll take it slower next time and maybe have a longer lunch break midday.

2024.05.12 20:39 Dangerous-Balance545 Spider-Bots
Hi all.
We’ll be returning to Disneyland Paris in a few weeks time. We have been watching recent merchandise videos and haven’t seen any Spider-Bots. Are they exclusively sold in Avengers Campus? Or are they not for sale at all? I want to give my five year old advance notice if the latter is the case.
Thanks in advance.

2024.05.12 15:34 Emma_Nemz Priority pass question
Hello, my sister and I are going to Disneyland Paris tomorrow. My sister suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury 12 years ago, although from just looking at her she doesn’t appear to have any mobility issues, she is disabled. Her symptoms include seizures, vision impairments poor coordination dizziness and sensitive to light. I did not think about the priority pass for my sister. We are already in Paris and I can provide her social security disability card (we live in the US) on my phone, but I don’t have the original copy with me… how strict are they in Disneyland Paris? Is the picture on the phone enough??

2024.05.12 00:22 Interesting-Ad-4242 Alton Towers rides suitable for smo
Hi all,
I've been away from Reddit for a wee while and my weight loss journey. The last time I checked in (about 3 years ago), I was 30kg down. I'm now sitting at 15kg down and somewhat disappointed to have climbed back up so much. Trying really hard to get my discipline back and back to the principles that worked well for me in the past.
Anyway, my question for today is... In the summer time I'll be going with a young adults camp to Alton Towers for the day. I haven't been in about 20 years. I am really worried about being too chunky for the rides and so was wondering if anyone from this group had any thoughts on rides that would be accommodating of someone of my size? I was recently at Disneyland Paris, and was able to fit on rides like the Avengers ride, but wasn't able to fit on Hyperspace mountain. I'd really like to avoid the embarrassment of queuing for rides, getting to the front and then not being able to fit. Anyone any thoughts?
(I'd dearly love for there to be a point where this wasn't an issue or a consideration for me, but that's a very long way off at the moment)

2024.05.11 21:08 BurnTheAnemone BF [M20] wants me [F23] to go to France for Disney. Anxious.
My boyfriend [M 20] who is in Ireland, wish for me [F 23, USA] to go with him in Disneyland Paris in July.
I am a bit wary of this plan because of my view towards Spain, France, and Italy being rude towards Americans tourist. Although I have heard that most of Europe dislikes Americans, those three countries in particular seem to hardcore hate Americans and ridicule them.
Maybe someone might ease and change my mind about his plan. When I travel, I tend to be quiet and very apologetic if I do anything because i scared I am doing something wrong or offensive.
Also, I’m just hesitant because I live 7hr (by car) or 1hr 30min (by plane) to Disney in Orlando, FL. It will cost me around 1,200 USD for the flight in France. Then I can’t even imagine the cost for hotels and such.
I’m just afraid because of being ridicule, not knowing an gram of French, and having no connections with someone around there (no native French friend or family).
He is really wanting me to go and I have a feeling it’s because he’s friend is going with his mom. I feel it just for them and not for us.
My mind is all over the place and I hope someone here can tell me a bit more about France being a bit okay than what I have been hearing. Thank you and I really I hope I didn’t offend anyone from France 😭. I just don’t know much about it and most tell me that you guys are picky with food and how we attempt to French words. Please prove me wrong.

2024.05.11 19:04 ToujoursLamour66 Work for Californian in Paris/France. Your advice?
I am searching for work as an American in Paris but unable to find the proper channels to enter into the French work system.
I have little to no transferable university experience. But I have significant relatable work experience. I’ve already tried to apply to numerous positions in Tourisme including Disneyland and several tour guide positions but have found NO success.
When ive asked other Americans in Paris how they entered France their answers were always very obscure and not exactly precise.
Yes, ive tried associations. No, I dont want to take French language classes (my level is already intermediate)
What is YOUR advice for finding work that will allow me to apply for a work permit, visa, or other CDI/CDD contract?

2024.05.11 16:50 TheJawa011 If you had the power to overhaul or add something to Disney World to expand it what would you add?
Sometimes I look at other Disney parks and think, that would be so good at Florida! I get that parks need the unique rides to make their park worth visiting, but I can't help dream of an "Ultimate Disney World".
Some of my ideas would be:
Magic Kingdom: Add the Alice in Wonderland ride from Anaheim and the Curious Labyrinth from Paris and keep Mad Hatters Tea Party, Cheshire Cafe. I'd move them all to where the Circus area is now as a big seperate space for wonderland, and move Dumbo to where Tea Party is.
Add Enchanted Tales of Beauty and the Beast from Tokyo Disneyland.
Provide the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay to Florida's mansion during the holiday season.
Hollywood Studios: Add RC Racer from WDS Paris to Toy Story Land.
I reluctantly say about adding Avengers Campus but I would NEVER EVER replace tower of terror of rock n roller coaster like the other parks did. Give it it's own land like Galaxy's Edge.
Animal Kingdom: Tbh I'm already pleased to hear that Indiana Jones is taking the place of Dinosaur although I know that's a divisive topic!
Also I know Animal Kingdom is a bit less reliant on Disney properties and I like that so I haven't got much else I'd change about it.
Epcot: Add Crush's Coaster from WDS Paris either to replace or as addition to The Seas with Nemo and friends.
More importantly what would you do? Would you add existing rides from other parks and where would you add them? Are there any rides that don't exist you think should? I just would love to hear if anyone else fantasises about this like I do sometimes 😂

2024.05.11 11:33 peachsconepops From being scared of rollercoasters to doing the big 7!
I went to Alton towers with my partner on Thursday and Friday and had the best time. I’m pretty scared of rollercoasters, the most intense (and only) ones I’ve ever done were megaphobia and speed at Oakwood which I know is nowhere near as intense. I was lucky enough to go to Disneyland paris as a kid a few times but had no interest for any of the big thrill rides at that age.
I knew I’d regret it if I went away not doing any of the big rides, especially the smiler and I’m so glad I did.
We started the day on th13teen, then went straight to Rita. My partner loves rollercoasters and has been on many so was kind enough to let me set the pace. I decided we had to do the smiler next, otherwise I didn’t think I’d ever do it. Plus, the wait time was 40 minutes and my logic was if I waited that long, I “had” to do it because I’d waited.
We were seated on the back row next to a lovely mother and daughter who were clearly enthusiasts and had done this many times. I found the loops daunting, especially from going from 1 inversion at Oakwood to 14 here, but my biggest fear was feeling or being sick. I took advice from this subreddit and forced myself to keep my eyes open. To calm myself through the inversions, I started counting in my head, thinking “only X seconds left.” The ride started, and I absolutely loved it! I stopped bothering with the counting and just focused on enjoying myself. I’m almost mad I didn’t try it out years ago but I was a nervous wreck before, and SO proud of myself that I made it on there and did it.
We decided since we were staying overnight there wasn’t any rush and did a few of the chill family friendly rides. We went over to Katanga canyon and did the rapids and a few goes on the mine train, and then since Wickerman was nearby, decided to tick that one off too. It was insane, and I was so much calmer, feeling like if I did the smiler I could do anything.
We explored and shopped the rest of the day with plans to hit the others the next day. We stayed in the Alton towers hotel so got to use the enterance right by galactica. It had a late opening so we relaxed for a bit and got some nemesis merch at the bunker store, then went straight on galactica. I know this is probably a controversial opinion, but I honestly think it was my favourite. I know it’s not very intense but that’s what I liked about it, we just had a lot of fun - I even took my hands off of the handlebars and held them out - what a feeling.
We left oblivion until last because it was closed when we checked the day before. My partner was dreading this the most and of course we were sat front row, and of course we looked down. Nothing much to say about it, but after the stomach drop feeling it was great. We did some of the more chill rides to finish our day.
I know it’s not much and a bit silly but I’m so proud of myself for doing this, I didn’t think I could and we already can’t wait to go back! I wanted to share with the community :)

2024.05.10 18:34 Cheap_Parking9340 Summer holiday plans
Hi all,
This summer we’re travelling through Europe as a family of 4 (2 adults, 7yo and 1yo) with the following itinerary:
San Sebastian – 2 nights Pyrénées (just south of Lourdes) – 4 nights Eurocamp in Sète – 3 nights Villeneuve-Loubet – 4 nights Turin – 3 nights Interlaken – 4 nights Dijon – 1 night Disneyland Paris – 2 nights Bayeux – 1 night
Does anyone have any recommendations for things to do in any of the places we’re visiting that are suitable for families? We’re pretty active and love exploring new places.
