BBM on BlackBerry Bold 9700
BBM was one hell of an era. Which blackberry did you have? I had this bold right here and it was just amazing! I miss those days.

2024.06.01 18:42 Janie_Lee_Curmis What are your favorite vintage phones of all time, and which ones did you ALWAYS want but never got?

I’m in the US and was born in 1992. Got my first phone at 11 in 2003 (a hand me down Sony Ericsson T61c on Verizon on my grandpa’s plan). I was obsessed with phones ever since. My first “real” phone of my own was a Nokia 3595 on Cingular on my parents’ plan. Gotta love the days of rollover minutes, free nights and weekends, text messages at 10 cents per, and panicking if you accidentally joined mobile web. I’ve easily had over 100 models since.
I am extremely nostalgic for some and it got me wondering - what are your top favorite phones of all time?
My favorites:
1) BlackBerry Bold 9700 (AT&T) 2) BlackBerry Bold 9000 (AT&T) 3) Gen 1 iPhone (Cingular) 4) Samsung Blackjack II (AT&T) 5) Motorola RAZR V3 (Cingular - had a black, silver, and blue) 6) Samsung D807 (Cingular - had a black and a white one, white was my favorite) 7) Sony Ericsson W810i (Cingular) 8) Nokia 3595 (Cingular)
I ALWAYS wanted a Sidekick II and Sidekick III, but I live in rural Central IL and T-Mobile didn’t have service where I live. It still isn’t great. Honorable mentions to the Motorola A630, Motorola V80, Motorola PEBL, Sony Ericsson S710i, and Nokia 6600.

HUGE Review with pics! (Wax Focussed!) Slime Japan/BFF/Bon Bon/Dream Glow/YC
I thought I would do a big combo review concentrating mostly on wax textures (and also a few other less usual and novel textures!) Let's go!

Slime Japan
Simplistic waterproof labels, 250g/8.8oz for 1680-1890 yen (roughly $10-12.) The package was full of amazing, full sized Japanese snacks! Plus a little pencil case, borax, care card, a little card with my name written in Japanese, plus a business card and free mini slime. They offer several different product bundles. All the jars had a foam seal with prevented any slime from escaping, everything arrived with me delightfully clean and fresh all the way from Japan!
Unfortunately they don’t ship internationally so you need to order via a shipping service called Tenso who provide you with a Japanese address. You place your order on Slime Japan, entering your Japanese address when you check out, and Tenso forward the package to you. This is a bit of a pain to set up but once it’s done it's plain sailing. If you use the Chrome browser you can translate the website.

  • Moment (Jelly avalanche, agar jelly/blueberry and earl grey scented)
The scent is very mellow and absolutely delicious. The blueberry comes through as does the earl grey. Bang on, realistic and impressive scent!
The website recommend setting this slime up overnight in order to maximize the avalanche effect but I went straight in like the greedy little slime piggy I am. I was extremely surprised and delighted by the real agar jelly pieces that sit on top of it! This is literally the jelly you get in real boba, I had expected it to just be sponge just like Western jelly! Slime Japan use agar in some of their bases too. It was squishy and broke up with a firm squeeze. This slime was slightly over-actived and not in the least bit sticky. I don’t mind slightly over-activated slimes at all and actually prefer them to arrive this way. Momo and Pilot usually do this too and I find it a professionally conscientious decision to avoid slimes arriving melted and sticky.
I had erroneously expected these textures to be reminiscent of the Korean textures I purchased from Seoul Gage but I couldn’t have been more wrong which pleased me to no end. This was an extremely thick, robust, easy to handle texture which was fantastic for sharp snaps and loud pops. The formula was perfect, held its consistency throughout play and was in every way extremely elegant.

  • BON BON (Jelly base with wax bonbons/muscat, neroli, sweet orange and yuzu essential oil for a champagne-like fragrance)
The fragrance is absolutely DIVINE and again very mellow. It reminds me of a sophisticated cocktail with a hint of all the stated scents coming through, muddled together into a subtle, mouthwatering meddly of enticing deliciousness. What I’ve always loved about Japanese sweets and desserts is the fact that they are subtle, never too sweet, potent or overbearing and clearly this preference has come through in this shop’s slimes as well!
The bon bons were great fun to pop and crush! They were quite firm but extremely satisfying to break and went very suddenly with an amusing bang, revealing some beautiful lime coloured jelly within. I applied a fair bit of pressure before they actually burst and it certainly built a little anticipation like the vintage game of Buckaroo! LOL! I made a point of crushing them up as well as possible whilst in the pot to minimise wax fallout, as I like to keep the wax in the slime rather than picking it out, personally. This had absolutely enormous crackles and very sharp, loud pops. Despite some of the wax pieces I didn't crush being quite chunky, I didn’t have much in the way of fallout issues. It was a bit over activated yet very stretchy without being at all rippy. This was a sublime slime. The theme, the scent, the texture and the beautifully made wax bon bons were all a real pleasure to play with and behold.
The bon bon were just so elegant and well made and the pop of lime jelly inside visually stunning!

  • PARI PARI (shiggly- thick jiggly and wax/gold leaf, caramel custard scented)
The scent is an absolute bang on custardy, creme caramel. It's light, creamy, elegant and delicious without being sickening, it's just amazing. There is a layer of gold leaf underneath the wax that is hard spot in the photo but a very beautiful touch. It stuck to the wax in places when combined and looked very classy. The wax was an absolute delight to crack through, wafer thin and snappable and made some fantastic, crackly, very novel ASMR noises that are unusual to come across in a slime.
The base is slightly over activated and non-sticky, I’m thrilled to be able to enjoy this jiggly texture without any annoyance or messing around with activator! It remains thick and has some hold which is a joy as usually I'm not a fan of jigglies. Plus it gave out some very loud snaps, sharp pops and clicks and was really beautiful and stretchy. You can keep breaking the wax up every time you play with it (which adds another dimension to the ongoing experience) and had no fallout at all, which is surprising! The previous two slimes inflated just a little too much to fit back into their original containers but this one did so very politely.

  • Free mini slime (snow creme, apple scented)
Even though these slimes are all a little over activated, they’re not ripping at all. This was an extremely stretchy, plush and dense snow creme that inflated plenty and was massive on the soft sizzles. It had some nice soft pops and became clicker as it inflated. It smelled just like a fresh red apple. This was a lovely, much firmer take on the Korean whipped texture.
https://preview.redd.it/arls6svq8w1d1.jpg?width=5736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fca9667a211650cc72a37fccc032cfbb9032e7d7
As someone who encounters a lot of slime, I am forever craving that rare and coveted experience of something texturally new and novel and slime Japan provided this so incredibly well! The super thin crackly waxes, the agar jelly and the thick textures combined with nuanced and delicate Japanese scents was an absolute joy. My whole order extruded class and sophistication (and basically came with a free lunch as they included so many nice snacks! Haha!) I need to assess the longevity of these slimes of course but as of now I can't pick a single gripe or fault about anything in my order. I am extremely excited to return to Slime Japan and couldn’t recommend them more! A rare and well deserved 10/10

BFF Slime Bakery
$14.99-$17.99 for 7.5oz. waterproof labels. The packaging is gorgeous, a total fiesta! It came with a sealed holographic packet containing cute squishy toys, a sticker, care card and a sweet handwritten mini card, as well as an activator pen. The labels are very beautifully designed. The whole aesthetic and the themes are a great deal of fun and very well thought out.
Looks like a party to me! 😄
UK folks there is a catch I'm afraid. BFF are no longer shipping to the UK and so I had to use a mail forwarding service in the US to obtain my order. I used Stackry and everything has gone smoothly so far but they don’t ship unlabelled liquids so you will need to request that the slime store doesn't include activator pens. I only found this out on my fourth order when they flagged this up but several activator pens seemingly snuck through in previous orders so your mileage may vary.

  • CRACKED (milky clear with wax topper, pompom, savoury egg tart)
This theme is so utterly ingenious! This REALLY looks convincingly like a raw egg an ends up looking like a cooked one! Brilliant! 😆 The wax is fairly thick but not hard to crack. I was picking up an extremely mild umami scent. It’s super subtle, literally barely there but works well with the theme. I don't think it would be right for this egg to smell of anything else! This was a pretty loose and sticky clear and I did go back in with activator quite a few times as I played but it was absolutely crazy for crackles. The longer I played the stickier it got and activator couldn’t bring it back after a while. This is a shame because everything else about the idea was ingenious!
The crack and the unbelievably realistic raw egg with the pom pom yolk!
By the end of play, the egg was \"cooked\"!

  • HUCKLEBERRY PIE (sugar sand & perlite, notes of huckleberry, creamy, vanilla, and sugarcane)
Upon opening I was not particularly picking up the scent as stated at all. This was insanely pleasant and crunchy to combine with unreal ASMR sizzles but I had an increasingly tricky time with the scent. I was getting a sort of burnt smell which was possibly emitting from the perlite. It’s a shame about the scent as this texture is incredible and I’m completely in love with it! I personally don’t find it too harsh on the hands but if you are tofu-handed it could potentially bother you a little. I find it a tough rough but not at all sharp. This is inflatable, puffy and airy and honestly has some of the best sizzles I’ve ever experienced. The resulting dusky mauve color is also gorgeous. It has some nice little pops too. There is a little sand fall out but nothing at all that unusual for a sand texture. I’m so tied on this one as it is easily one of my favourite all-time textures but the scent is quite problematic for me.
https://preview.redd.it/esw9w0iibw1d1.jpg?width=7959&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aafdb8f886f4ab57446be9eb01c3919f5ece0545

  • BRAZILLIAN BUM BUTTER CREAM (glossy wood glue, scented like the viral 'Sol de Janeiro')
The scent is pleasant and reminds me of a nice, high end body cream from a posh, boutique aesthetician in a hot country but I can’t say I am familiar with the viral product it is modelled after, is my bum missing out?! 😂
The texture is perfect to represent the theme and scent. It is a somewhat loose thickie, slightly reminiscent of a creamy body butter. Initially quite sticky and periodically calls for a little activator to pull it back. This is extremely stretchy with minor resistance, low holdability and extremely loud, sharp pops and crackles, as well as the odd deeper pop. It is the sort of texture that is pleasant to play with but you will note some tackiness and have it stick to your hands if you attempt to make a swirl and place it down on your surface. If this is by design it is probably best for table play.
https://preview.redd.it/ljl5jdm0cw1d1.jpg?width=5314&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4df9271529de1801c0065ee77a00a7fcf220d627

  • NO PROBLLAMA (perlite coated clear, earthy fresh, and lightly floral marigold notes.)
The sassy lil’ llama charm that comes with this slime is gorgeous! 😂 The scent is not bad, quite musky and reminiscent of those little sachets you would put in your clothes drawer to make it smell nice. These guys make such pretty perlite slimes! This one has a whimsical pearlescence which is impossible to photograph but so very beautiful. This is a super sizzly and inflatable slime. I recommend inflating it a ton, setting it down on a surface and enjoying the immense pleasure of the loud fizzy sizzles when you press your fingers down into it to deflate! It sounds like an egg frying in a hot skillet! It was slightly tacky and I did go in with activator a few times to calm it down but I still enjoyed this a lot.
https://preview.redd.it/hhlvmpmgcw1d1.jpg?width=7540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=92689308323813ad07b72d07a46df1bfee2d29bf

  • BALLOON DOG (Icee/clear, fruit loop scented)
The scent is sharp and little citrusy. I’m not hugely keen on it and find it slightly reminiscent of citrus cleaning products. This is such a stunning slime with a beautiful, pearlescent pigmented clear slime topper. It combines to a chubby, slightly jiggly, very chewy, inflatable and snow heavy plush jelly and is very nice. It has medium volume bubble pops. I put this in a 12oz pot due to the amount of inflation.
https://preview.redd.it/7bd1tcqrcw1d1.jpg?width=9181&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7b73af4959126173322057a01594d1c54b6a914
BFF have an amazing, extremely well presented aesthetic with some superbly well designed and dreamed up, super-fun themes and charms. My main gripe was that a lot of textures seemed to be quite sticky and some wouldn’t activate. Unfortunately, there were more misses than hits on the scents. The only scent I thought was great was the Brazilian Bum Butter one. The textures that were good were REALLY good. Huckleberry Pie was my favourite by far so I’m disappointed it didn’t have a great scent to compliment it.
I would certainly go in for a round two but would concentrate on their sand/perlite textures which I really did enjoy a great deal. 8.7/10

Bon Bon Slimes
6oz for between £13-17. Well packaged and came with borax and a care card. Nicely designed waterproof labels.

  • JUST A PECK (4 glue, 3 clay blended snowslay/blackberry bliss, apricot and mint scented)
The scent is a perfume, fairly strong and not really for me. I thought the design was just so cute! This was a plush snow slay with a fair bit of resistance on the stretch and some very decent bubble pops and crackles. It gets a little jigglier as you play and inflates moderately to a fairly holdable texture. I find it a tiny touch dry and rippy. I don’t feel that the scent goes with this slime’s theme at all. It’s far too bold and sultry and lingers on the hands. If you are the sort of person who gets a headache from scents I feel this could be a triggered for you.
https://preview.redd.it/dt3jthf0ew1d1.jpg?width=5336&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25f95b4d7c5f5ab1e480422b8b94c43e67412a77

  • SPRING CHICKEN (jiggly T&G, sour watermelon scented)
I’m definitely getting watermelon, but there’s also a non-descript undertone I can’t quite put my finger on. It’s not bad and the cornflower blue colour of the slime is stunning. Though it’s not bad, I wouldn’t put watermelon together with this theme at all. Real mini eggs (the Cadbury variety that look near identical to these) have a very distinct and incredible sugar and chocolate scent and it would have been lovely for this slime to reflect that.
The eggs are made of firm, light foam and make a nice little squeaky scrunch as you push them into the base. It was a tiny bit sticky and called for quite a few squirts of activator to make it more handleable. This was a very jiggly, stretchy, loose slime with low to no hold. It had tons of crackles and snaps and medium volume pops. There was a lot to like but it was a little bit loose for my personal taste.
This was the cutest to assemble and the little chick squeaked when you squeezed him!

  • CADBURYS CREAM EGG (DIY wax, 3 glue blended snowfizz, musky chocolate and marshmallow creme scented)
What an absolutely exceptional concept and aesthetic! SO WELL pulled off! Everything from the silver leaf, to the "Cadbury purple" topper, to the “chocolate” egg is so incredibly well thought out and put together! The scent is very good and just as stated, although I found the chocolate notes a little more subtle and the sweet and the creamy marshmallow element more dominant. The wax egg was fairly firm to break and suddenly went with a delightful bang, then out explodes the “cream”! A few wax pieces were too thick and chunky to actually crush and you do have to be careful as a few of them can be slightly sharp and pointed if you are not paying attention and catch them wrong. I personally prefer to smash my wax pieces up very small and keep them in the slime but it was very difficult in this case, you'd almost need a little hammer. The wax falls out a great deal due to the large and heavy slabs the egg breaks into.
This was a decent snow fizz, not too rough feeling with a good amount of sizzle. It was resistant and bouncy, though gets a tiny bit rippy with inflation. After warming it felt fairly loose and a touch sticky. To me the whole assembly and egg crushing ceremony was the best part of this slime. The resulting texture was not bad at all but not my favourite snow fizz texture out there.
This looks SO MUCH like a real cadbury's cream egg inside and out. One of the most impressive slime designs I've ever seen.
If you would like to see this awesome little egg in action, the sub’s very own u/leesooim has a video review right here on Instagram:
I absolutely loved the themes and aesthetic from Bon Bon and think the egg was ingenious beyond words! It truly blurred the line between slime and art! The slimes were all decent but apart from the egg, the scents didn’t quite land for me. I feel the novelty of the incredible aesthetic wins more points that the resulting textures but I will absolutely keep my eyes peeled for more exciting slimes from this store. 9/10

Dream Glow Slime
Another company that doesn’t ship to the UK, I purchased via Stackry again.
$14.99-17.99 for 7oz pots. Came with a care card and activator pen. Unfortunately the jars did leak and spoil some of the labels (which were non-waterproof.)

  • CASHMERE PILLOW (pillow snow butter, Beach Cashmere scented)
The scent has notes of baby powder and is subtle and pleasant, I find it very relaxing and not too strong at all. This is a little bit wet and greasy on the surface at first but that is quite common for this texture across the board and I have learned that if it feels this way in the first instance, I’m probably going to like it! This is a very decent snow butter in a very beautiful, soft cornflower blue colour. It is nice, stretchy and plush and holdable. It has good sharp pops and clicks that get louder and more focused as it inflates. This deflates back down very easily and fits back into its pot. I very much enjoyed the combo of texture, scent and colour. Great slime.
https://preview.redd.it/6wg3o2oxgw1d1.jpg?width=5894&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37ed0efca06cbfdb827c96b729a39f64353faa6c

  • MANGO JUICE (Ultra Thick and Glossy, Mango Sorbet scented)
A very fresh, full and yummy mango scent with notes of candy. A beautiful and very vibrant T&G which is as thick as promised but nonetheless very stretchy with no ripping. It has an abundance of sharp bubble pops and satisfying snaps, crackles and clicks. It’s every bit a fantastic T&G.
https://preview.redd.it/aopbivo4hw1d1.jpg?width=5343&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d94c06d89e43f553db4d89c348f9aa434e43b15e

  • VANILLA CREME COLD FOAM (snow buttecold foam, sweet vanilla cream scented)
A slightly milky vanilla scent. I dont mind it but it leans towards an artificial vanilla rather than an extract type vanilla (I’m super fussy about vanillas, especially after the unreal vanilla butter slime Rodem kindly made to my spec!) However, it's certainly not a bad scent at all.
This lacks the wet, oily feel upon opening. It has less resistance than the previous snow texture and is a lot stretchier, jigglier, and less holdable. The more you play the looser it gets and I did need to give it a few puffs of of activator after a little bit of inflation. It has soft bubble pops and loud soft sizzles. I much preferred Cashmere pillow, both in terms of texture and scent. While vanilla is one of my favourite scents, it has to hit just right for me to love it.
https://preview.redd.it/yxb7ql4nhw1d1.jpg?width=6065&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1b0a975e7303d016cb7e34f3cb10ba47f9cc7317
I thought these were very nice slimes which were let down by the fact they had leaked quite badly and ruined the labels. This was disappointing as I always make an effort to save labels when I decant slimes into larger jars due to inflation. This would’ve been far less of an issue if the labels were waterproof! I would be enticed back to try more of their snow butters and T&Gs, though the lack of international shipping is a shame as I'd very much prefer to not have to involve a third party! 9.4/10
........................

YC Slimezland (Etsy USA)
8oz for £11.34. The label was not waterproof. This took a bit longer to arrive than stated and I had to chase it up with the seller. It was missing the free extra promised in the listing (which I can certainly live without but would have been a nice gesture considering the extreme cost of international shipping.) The listing stated an activator pen would be included but I received borax powder instead.

  • Mickeys Ice Cream Bar (DIY wax coated clay, vanilla ice cream scented)
I saw this slime on Tiktok and thought it was an incredibly cool and enticing concept. Unfortunately, I opened the jar to find it was unscented which was a really big disappointment! It was stated to be vanilla ice cream scented in the listing. This really took away from the whole realistic ice cream experience for me, especially so seeing as I'm a vanilla fanatic and was looking very much forward to a good creamy vanilla ice cream scent to support the theme!
The Mickey clay piece was missing the ice cream stick, a petty gripe but it was shown in the listing and would have made for cooler photos. However, it was a really fantastic wax/clay combo, very well made indeed and not dried out! I think if anything the wax locks moisture into a clay piece. It looked just like a real ice cream and was just so very charming. The wax was quite thin revealing the faint outline of the Mickey face and made for an easy and very pleasant smoosh. The wax pieces broke up very small and presented me with no notable fall out issues.
Combined, this was a very thick, slightly glossy butter texture. It felt a bit dehydrated to me however, like it could have done with a little more moisture to give it a more copiously fluffy, inflatable texture as you'd expect from a brand new, fresh butter slime. It produced some decent bubble pops and wasn’t sticky.
This wax encapsulated clay piece was a real work of art!
Ultimately, I am slightly disappointed that I paid so much for international shipping for what I thought would be a very special slime just to find the experience a little lacklustre due to lack of scent and seller attentiveness. I couldn’t help but get the impression that the store owner had either rushed it or just didn’t take full pride in their products/had lost heart somewhat, which is a shame.
If I had a small Etsy store and someone from across the world bought one of my products and paid far more than the item's cost in shipping, I would endeavour to make it a very special experience for them by at least ensuring everything was as stated. It had SO much promise design-wise and was very unique and fun but just lacked the finesse and bells and whistles I look for in a slime/store. I did go back to take a better look through their reviews and realised they had a comparably low overall score for an Etsy slime shop so I also shoulder some of the blame for not being more attentive on that front. This remains to be an absolutely brilliant concept and I would love to see them step up their game and come back stronger as they are clearly very talented! 7.9/10
........
Thank you for reading to the end! I had a lot of fun reviewing these wax textures and very much look forward to trying some more in the future! 😊

2024.04.23 01:30 TeaAndCozy Nui Cobalt Critters are coming! 24 reviews from past years

I've always been a girl who loves animals, and now that I have two pet rabbits, both adoped within the last year, I am extra excited about the return of Nui Cobalt's Critters collection! This collection isn't entirely sweet cuddly woodland creatures, but it does have a lot of those, including three of my all-time favorite Nui Cobalts: Little Brown Rabbit, Little White Rabbit, and Lilac Rabbit. When Forest posted in the Facebook group asking which Critters we'd like to see return, or which animals we'd love to see emerge as new Critters, I waxed rhapsodic about the Rabbits and suggested a bunch of other colorings of rabbits that could become amazing perfumes... so I'm hopeful that we might even get a new Rabbit this year. I would just about die of happiness if she really did make a Blue Otter Rabbit after my sweet bun Hazel. She also teased a Ladybug scent for this year, which would be SO CUTE!
Anyway, the Critters are due back this Friday, with the newsletter announcing them on Thursday, and I am excited. As usual, I thought I'd post my thoughts on all the past Critters I've tried in case that might help you formulate your wishlist. And if you've tried any of these, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Was your experience similar to mine?
My preferences: I especially love snuggly scents, incense, golden amber, cardamom, black tea, beeswax, non-gourmand vanillas, and white florals (particularly tiare, honeysuckle and tuberose; sadly I am allergic to lilies and jasmine doesn’t work on me). I don't like hay, overly sweet gourmands, excessive musk, dragon’s blood, leather, patchouli, labdanum, or any really dark scents in general. To my great devastation, Nui Cobalt’s apricot and pear notes don’t tend to work on me, though I haven’t given up hope and I continue to try new blends with those notes occasionally.
Most of these perfumes were provided as press samples by Nui Cobalt in exchange for an honest review.

Rabbits

Little Brown Rabbit [Nutmeg and tonka bean nuzzle up against fluffy marshmallow, cottonflower, pink pepper, and a trace of carrot seed] (this perfume is so popular that it is also in the Continuous Collection and available all year 'round!) - This is one of my absolute top perfume oils. It comforts me on hard days, it cozies me on laid-back evenings, it cheers me on rainy days. My husband recognizes it immediately and honestly I think he finds it cuddly too when I'm wearing it, and it's also his primary frame of reference when he sniffs a new sample I'm trying - "that smells a bit like Little Brown Rabbit" is high praise from him. Wet, it's very strongly nutmeg and caramel, almost mapley, but also with just a bit of pepperish bite from the carrot seed - this is as gourmand as I'm willing to get. Once it dries, the caramel dissipates and it becomes the most marvelously snuggly scent. Having a bad day? Little Brown Rabbit can cheer you up. Having a cozy day? Little Brown Rabbit will make it that much better. Wanting to unwind in the evening? Little Brown Rabbit is my go-to snuggly evening scent. And I think it's the absolute must-try from Nui Cobalt.
Little White Rabbit [Nutmeg and tonka bean nuzzle up against cottonflower, white peppercorn, clove, vanilla marshmallow creme, pale blue cashmere, carrot seed, and honeyed almond] - When the news broke that NCD was releasing a new little rabbit variant two years ago, I was SO excited (little did I know that it would seemingly become an annual thing!), and I blind-bought a full-size (something I never do). Especially because Little White Rabbit adds that wonderful cashmere note to Little Brown Rabbit, this one was a no-brainer for me, and my trust was easily rewarded. Nui Cobalt has outdone themselves with this, their most snuggly of perfumes. I expected this to be a lot like LBR only less mapley and perhaps more cashmere-y (and yes, it is both of these things), but truly, LWR feels even more like it's built on a base of Spidersilk vanilla (Starlight and Spidersilk: [Slender strands of cotton flower hung with trembling dewdrops, cold crystalline musk, and tiny black vanilla beans]), with some of the LBR spices (the peppercorn and carrot seed, but I don't sense any cloves) plus the comforting warmth of the cashmere and almond of Silver Fox (see below), another favorite of mine. And then finally, the marshmallow ties it all together into a pillowy cloud of coziness. It's frankly astonishing. Love at first sniff even just from the vial, and on my skin it blossoms into the most comforting scent. Do I love it even more than LBR? I still can't tell, even years later. I love them both. One final note that may be helpful to some of you: the cottonflower is pretty strong with this one, which is part of why it reminds me so much of the Spidersilk vanilla, but if you're not so much a fan of "clean" laundry-like scents, this one might not be quite your cup of tea - go for LBR instead.
Lilac Rabbit [Nutmeg and tonka bean nuzzle up against toasted marshmallow, carrot seed, summerweight cotton, allspice, and pale lilac in a smooth fur accord] - Oh friends, I hoped and pleaded for another new Rabbit last year, and the universe (and Nui Cobalt) answered! I'm not actually all that fond of lilac and I think I have ended up destashing all of my perfumes with lilac notes, but I was willing to risk it for the chance of a floral Rabbit. Lilac Rabbit is gorgeous - but really, did you expect it to be anything else? I get primarily marshmallow, allspice, and cotton. It sits exactly halfway between the other two Rabbits, with the allspice and peppery carrot seed spices of Little Brown Rabbit (but without the maple quality), and also with the silky, slightly soapy fabric aspect of Little White Rabbit. There is perhaps just a touch of musky lilac, but it doesn't really read to me like a floral perfume. Lilac Rabbit is comfortable. The closest metaphor I can think of is a day when you're wearing a new outfit, one that fits perfectly and really suits you, but it's also completely comfy, with no itchy spots or seams that dig in, and it moves with you. It's like a day where you feel perfectly yourself, fully at ease, and completely put-together. This new Rabbit is everything I could have possibly dreamed of, and it immediately became one of my favorite spring & summer scents.

Squirrels

In past years, they've offered a complete set of all the Squirrels, which was how I tried them all a few years ago. (They've since been discontinued, but sometimes discontinued things return again, or perhaps you might run into one in the swaps, so I'll include all my Squirrel reviews here.) All of the Squirrels are built on the same base of almond + apricot + benzoin, and then each one has different additional notes. Like the Spidersilk variants (all built on the same Spidersilk vanilla base but with different additional notes - my reviews HERE), the Squirrels each have an entirely different vibe. Interestingly, the actual proportion of almond to apricot also seems to vary by Squirrel, perhaps because of the interactions with the different added notes, or perhaps because they actually use different proportions in the Squirrel base for each one. It means that they don't feel anything like near-exact copies of each other, but each have a really distinct identity.
Black Squirrel [A playful blend of almond and spiced apricot, grounded in rich benzoin and copaiba balsam, deepened by black oak, black currant, vanilla bean, and myrrh] - When I first put it on, it's very strongly and exclusively almond - a warm almond that reminds me of baking almond cookies, and it must be the vanilla that helps to make that association. The almond veers slightly towards cherry. As the oil warms on my skin, the apricot emerges and then overtakes the almond. It's apricot skin, soft and velvety, rather than the fleshy fruit of the apricot. These two notes, paired with the woodiness of the balsam and (presumably) black oak, makes this a very bookish scent, perfect for the dark academia aesthetic of my wardrobe in autumn. It's not really an incense-heavy perfume; the myrrh just grounds it and gives it a beautiful dark richness. On me it's not terribly fruity (though I know some folks get mostly dark stone fruits; isn't skin chemistry fascinating!) It's the longest-lasting of the Squirrels, too - the second time I wore it, its throw was a bit too high at bedtime so I washed my wrists, and even so, I could still smell Black Squirrel the next morning!
Flying Squirrel [Raw almond, spiced apricot, and rich benzoin borne aloft by lavender, cotton flower, and tart kumquat] - This one reminds me a lot of Napping in a Flower [Tender ripe apricot, Bulgarian lavender, spiced summer honey, plum blossom, daylily, honeysuckle, and ylang], which makes perfect sense since they share a lot of the same notes, but without the honey and honeysuckle that made Napping too candle-y on me. Husband said this reminds him strongly of Little White Rabbit - he said it's the spices that make that association for him, and I suspect he was also picking up on the shared cotton flower and almond notes. I'm finding it easier to compare Flying Squirrel to other NCD scents than to describe it on its own; its combination of notes feels quite erratic and the concept doesn't feel terribly unified. I couldn't classify this as a "cozy" perfume even though it does have a strong cotton flower note, nor is it citrusy enough for me to think of it as a fruity perfume (even though it has the strongest apricot of all the Squirrels), or herbal enough for it to go in my lavender section (in fact, I'm hoping that some aging brings out the lavender more). If you like Napping in a Flower or Little White Rabbit - two perfumes that are really nothing alike! - you'd probably enjoy this one too.
Grey Squirrel [A playful blend of almond and spiced apricot, grounded in rich benzoin and copaiba balsam, softened with cotton flower, cashmere, and teakwood] - This one gives the effect of eating an almond cookie while snuggled in a wool blanket. This one is super cozy - the autumn cousin of my beloved wintertime snuggly scents (Silver Fox, Snow Cat, Chionophilia, all of which also feature almond and fabric notes - see their full notes lists and my comparative reviews HERE). Grey Squirrel stays pretty static, not morphing like Black Squirrel, and the apricot is only barely present.
Red Squirrel [A playful blend of almond and spiced apricot, grounded in rich benzoin and copaiba balsam, warmed with red musk, red sandalwood, and smoldering amber] - This one is pretty heavy on the red musk, and was in fact partly responsible for me finally figuring out that I don't personally enjoy red musk. The almond, apricot, and sandalwood combination does give this a rather gourmand-adjacent feel to it, more so than the other Squirrels. It's a very rich and warm perfume. It's funny how actually "red" this scent feels - it feels like the experience of watching a bonfire die down, even though there's no smoke note at all. "Smoldering" indeed.
White Squirrel [A playful blend of almond and spiced apricot, grounded in rich benzoin and copaiba balsam, cooled with aloe, white musk, and smooth white amber] - Even without looking at the notes, it was easy to identify the white amber in this one, even though Nui Cobalt only infrequently uses white amber as a note. White Squirrel is very like Grey Squirrel, equally cozy but lighter and airier, with that white amber instead of cashmere. White Squirrel is cooler, more standoffish than Grey Squirrel - that "cool" effect must be the aloe - more a wintertime snuggly scent rather than an autumnal cozy scent. Even the now-familiar almond + apricot base feels daintier and even less foody here in White Squirrel.
Overall--

All the other Critters

Akhal-Teke [Fine ecru suede, raw silk, pearl musk, white amber, precious Hawaiian sandalwood, and creamy pistachio] - As someone put it, "super shiny horse". Silky yet fuzzy and soft, sophisticated yet snuggly. I recognize that pearl musk + sandalwood combination from Cancer [Cotton flower, steamed rice, soft sandalwood, vanilla orchid, coconut milk, and pearl musk] and I love it here too. All of these notes, suede + silk + pearl musk + white amber + sandalwood together, are gentle and just the epitome of softness, yet with just enough body and presence to be soft-on-purpose, assertively soft if that makes sense. This is not a wallflower scent. On to more specifics about the literal smell. At first, the nutty pistachio is pretty present, but it melds beautifully with the gentle suede. The silk and white amber give an elegance. I also definitely get the pearl musk and sandalwood, which take more prominence in the drydown when the pistachio dissipates a bit. This is my favorite stage - just soft, gentle, creamy, and absolutely lovely. Akhal-Teke has low throw but high longevity. I should note that after a year of aging, the pistachio amped quite a lot, overpowering that gorgeous pearl musk/sandalwood base that I loved so much. I'm hoping someday Forest might make one that's basically just pearl musk and sandalwood, without any gourmand elements!
Black-Capped Chickadee [Dogwood saplings, cedar resin, the tang of young stone fruits: still tiny and green, sugar maple, pine nuts, and barely-thawed soil] - I'm not one for dirt notes, so I completely passed this one up for several years, but enough really glowing reviews finally convinced me to try it. In the vial, it smells of wood, honeyed fruits, and hay. On my skin, it's soil, slightly nutty and incensey, with plush fruit and some very cedar-forward wood notes - and yet it's surprisingly dainty, and a perfect encapsulation of a black-capped chickadee. There's something about this scent that reminds me of snow-covered pebbles, and also of Shakespeare's poem "The cloud-capp'd towers" from The Tempest. After much sniffing and pondering, I finally figured out why I made that snowy association - the fruits read to me like cranberry, making this feel like a wintery scent. As for "The cloud-capp'd towers," I think I'm getting that Shakespearean reference from the combination of daintiness and dirt.
Blossom Bat [Humid rainforest blossoms laden with nectar, dense moss, passionfruit, black fig, and bamboo] - This was an order freebie that I wouldn't have picked out for myself, but it's so fun, and it went straight into my "Aloe and dewy" section of my summer perfumes, next to Waimea Mist and Aloha from the Big Island summer collection. Blossom Bat is velvety flower petals against a lush background of aquatic notes. I don't often enjoy moss notes (they often turn into honeydew melon on my skin), but here the moss contributes to the especially verdant feeling.
Blue Jay [Sturdy blue spruce and young oak support the bold elegance of white peony, angelica, blackberry bramble, and rhubarb] - In the vial, it's extremely fruity with a hint of trees. On my skin, it matches the description much more closely: evergreens and forest floor, brightened by fruity sweetness and a hint of floral. If you loved None of Your Beeswax [Thorny brambles of blackberry, elderflower, violet, fennel seed, sacred benzoin, and unfiltered honey] from the Bees collection, do give this one a try - Blue Jay is like None of Your Beeswax's summer cousin. I once wore this to a community theater production of Into the Woods and it was perfect.
Copper Fox [Warm chai with steamed almond milk nestled in sumptuous cashmere, crimson musk, sarsaparilla, and budding birch] - I once went on a quest to find the perfect chai perfume, and of course I had to try Copper Fox! Immediately on application, Copper Fox is root beer, spicy root beer - there's that sarsaparilla in a big way. As it quickly dries, the overwhelmingly root beer-ness of it backs off somewhat, and it becomes much more chai spices + the woody birch (and still with an undercurrent of root beer). Chai latte this is not - it's all the spices of chai (cinnamon and black pepper especially, and probably a bit of ginger as well) without any sweetness or milky creaminess. I should note that at this point my skin has a slight reaction to this perfume; this perfume ended up being part of my discovery that like many others, I too have a slight skin reaction to cinnamon. It didn't hurt a bit and the redness went away fairly quickly, but be forewarned, if you're a person that has a reaction to cinnamon, this might be a blend worth steering away from, or at least planning to wear in a scent locket or in your hair instead of on your skin. Finally, several hours later, Copper Fox has a third stage, and to me the most lovely: chai spices backed by gentle almond and cozy cashmere (and at this stage it's clearly a "Fox" like Silver Fox).
Elf Owl [A bright concoction of liatrix, yellow sandalwood, beach-tumbled teak, solar musk, crushed coriander, and a scant pinch of pale cinnamon] - With the teak and cinnamon, and of course the obvious cue of the "solar musk", I was expecting this to be in the same family as Nui Cobalt's Sun, Heliophilia (Love of Sun), and Sunrise on Spidersilk (comparative review HERE!). Those sun-themed perfumes can be a bit too sharp and masculine on me (I tend to prefer snuggly scents or white florals), but as a great lover of owls (and a huge fan of Nui Cobalt's Snowy Owl [Dried coconut flakes, pale woods, frozen tuberose, vanilla orchid, and fluffy feather musk], with which it admittedly shares not a single note), I absolutely could not pass up Elf Owl. I'm so glad I didn't. This actually isn't in the sun-themed family, nor, of course, does it match the highly white-floral Snowy Owl. Instead, Elf Owl turns out to be much closer to Squash Blossom [Cocobolo wood, orris root, carrot seed, sunflower petals, mandarin zest, and acorn squash baked with brown sugar] from the Autumn 1 collection, though much less vegetal. It's a very well-blended perfume and nothing in particular stands out. The overall effect is gentle: gently floral and slightly vegetal, with vanilla and baking spices but without any sugary sweetness. (Liatrix, for anyone who doesn't know what that note is--I had to look it up myself!--is a "sweet, coumarinic, herbal, tobacco-like floral and offers a pleasant vanilla-like scent".)
Fennec Fox [Blush sandalwood, amber resin, antique Egyptian cotton touched with saffron, spiced peach preserves, and sweet cedar resin] - It's gentle, warm, and spiced, with that snuggly feeling that you get with anything that has NCD's cotton note. If you really look, you can distinguish the wood, saffron, and peach, but they meld together extremely well. Surprisingly, I actually get quite a lot of the same sand note as in Flying South [Pink lemonade, warm sand, tiare blossoms, and a flowy cotton sundress] even though sand is not listed. I wear Fennec Fox in autumn on days when I don't feel like a pumpkin.
Glasswing Butterfly [A diaphanous veil of coconut water, elderflower, moonlit gardenia, silver musk, green lavender, and a slender twist of lime] - Nelophilia (Love of Glass) [Elderflower, silver musk, coconut water, cardamom, silk tree, lime blossom, and smooth hinoki wood] is one of my favorites from the Valentine's collection, but it's been discontinued for some time. So I was delighted to see this one because its notes read like a combination of Nelophilia and Queen Bee [Creamy white gardenia and fluffy whipped honey], both among my favorite NCD perfumes. It's not quite - it's not the same almost-spicy gardenia as in Queen Bee - but it is absolutely divine. Glasswing Butterfly is basically Nelophilia with all its smooth, cool, rainy, white floral nature, but here the cardamom is more present (YES! I love cardamom), and with a bit more floral. After a year of aging, it became quite a LOT more white floral; the heady gardenia came out with a KICK, and it's nearly but not quite indolic.
Honey Badger [Black amber, raw honey, smoked maple wood, and cardamom-infused cream] - I mean, duh, I had to try this one just for the cardamom cream. This is somehow so recognizably a NCD scent. Honey straight from the comb, dripping and golden, rich and sweet, backed by maple wood (but not really maple syrup) and a whiff of cardamom spice. Not nearly enough cardamom for my taste - but then, we all know what I'm like! I'm so glad I tried this one. Since its notes list starts with "black amber," I expected this to be quite a dark scent, but while it's quite rich, it's not ominously dark. Husband really likes this one, which is always a special success.
Hummingbird [Darting from oleander to orange blossom with ripe nectarine, hibiscus tea, and traces of tuberose] - White florals with orange and nectarine fruit notes, chirpy and cheerful. It's a juicy but not sugary scent. I love it for warm spring days - it's an absolute staple of my springtime perfumes - though I find it a little cloying in very hot weather.
Opossum [A bold nocturnal potion of Hatian amyris, soft black suede, red patchouli, freshly-turned earth, copal resin, and Peru balsam] - I get suede, red musk, and brown patchouli; meanwhile Husband, sniffing my wrist, gets pine and petrichor. Yet the combination of all these things is surprisingly gentle, not a shouty, in-your-face kind of scent. Absolutely none of the notes we're picking up on are my thing, but just about all of them very much are Husband's thing, so guess what - he immediately snaffled this one.
Orchid Mantis [Ripe Philippine mango, dragon fruit, tamarind, Indonesian teak, clove bud, sandalwood, tuberose, and a touch of ylang] - This one is bit too sweet for me on application - at first it's all sugary mango - but as it warms on my skin, the other notes creep in: more fruit (but less sugar), a bit of sharp clove for balance, and hints of woodiness and florals. As it dries, those hints of clove and woodiness amp further (and at this point, all my husband smells is cinnamony clove). For some reason, this is one of the very strongest of my NCD scents, with high longevity and even higher throw.
Raccoon [Sepia cashmere, guaiac wood, Egyptian amber, Copaiba balsam, golden musk, a twinkle of coriander, blonde oudh, resinous Himalayan cedar, and myrrh] - It's so well-blended that I can't pick out a single note individually, but something about this feels so quintessentially NCD. Right on application, it makes me think of Cheat Code [Windswept teakwood, cedar, coriander and tea are grounded in black tonka with a hint of fine leather], another one I had trouble describing, and it has a similar level of elegance and polish. Meanwhile, Husband smelled a bit of cola or sarsparilla, and noted an almost chocolatey undertone. As it dries, the cashmere and musk come forward, quite woolly and plush and just a touch animalistic. It seems a similar cashmere musk as in Arctic Fox [Soft amber nestled in sumptuous cashmere, steamed rice milk, winter white musk, and snow-covered fir trees]. If Arctic Fox worked for you, you absolutely must try Raccoon. Since Arctic Fox doesn't work on me (my skin amps that cashmere to unpleasant levels), Raccoon ultimately won't win a place in my collection either - which is a bummer because that opening is so pretty. I'll have to stick with Cheat Code for my polished, sophisticated vibes.
Robin's Egg [Dainty forget-me-nots and lily of the valley, a dollop of whipped blueberry creme, and a cozy birch nest tucked into a flowering dogwood tree] - This one has the same amazing blueberry as Grey Cat [Dry smoked vanilla, fluffy marshmallow creme, fresh blueberries, the gentlest touch of lavender and a warm cup of Earl Grey], House of Transcendence [Top notes of wild blueberry and morning fog, a heart of pale lilac and cashmere, with a base of orris and white amber], and Choreophilia [Wild violets, warm Earl Grey, Dominican blue amber, orris root, a handful of blueberries, and a touch of lime marmalade]. This iteration of the blueberry note is juicy and floral. After a few years of aging, Robin's Egg has become even more gorgeous and creamy, with that stunning blueberry and a vision of dainty blue flowers. This one is discontinued and I'm really sad about that (but you could maybe find some in the swaps if you ask around).
Silver Fox [White tea with honey and rice milk, almond macaron, soft grey cashmere and cool woodland musk] (this perfume is so popular that it is also in the Continuous Collection and available all year 'round) - Stunning. Sophisticated yet snuggly. The cashmere is the most prominent, followed by fir, the sweetness of white amber, and NCD's gentle whipped honey note. I also wouldn't have been surprised to read that copal was a note - there's just that little bit of resinous almost-smoke. When it dries, the sweetness goes away and the fir comes forward. This was a freebie with one of my orders - I hadn't actually bought a sample of this for myself, worried that I wouldn't like the rice milk (which, as it turns out, I don't actually smell), but it has since become one of my favorite wintertime scents.
Sugar Glider [Raw cotton, sugar cane, flannel flower, macadamia nut, pearblossom, palest musk, and dandelion puff] - So here's the thing, I'm wary of gourmands (in fact I always sit out most of the April Fool's gourmand collection). Sugar is listed in the notes description in the very second place, but I am a sucker for cute woodland animals, so that's how I ended up with this sample. After a first sniff in the vial, I got a little nervous about it, because it smelled very sugary, but I figured I'd wear it once, review it for you all, and then in a worst-case scenario, destash it to someone who does love sugary dessert scents. But wait! There's something strangely intoxicating about this one, and it's not really a gourmand. Immediately when I put it on, it reminded me a bit of the Sweettart-ness of my beloved Somniphilia (Love of Sleep) [Lamb's wool accord, orange blossom, barely-budding lavender, melissa, green fig, clary, cloud musk, and weightless vanilla marshmallow meringue]. I was pleasantly surprised that Sugar Glider is not at all dessert, instead more sugar + wood, and really rather cuddly. And then when it dries down, it reminds me so strongly of the blue raspberry note in Dewdrops on Spidersilk [Cerulean strands of cotton flower bejeweled with dewdrops, cold crystalline musk, tiny black vanilla beans, frozen blue raspberry, and gentle incense], except it's not "blue" (nor is it raspberry, but neither is "blue raspberry"). How did they achieve this effect? I have no idea, but it's so addictive: such a delicate, cheerful, springtime scent. It really does remind me of the experience of picking a perfect white fluffy dandelion and making a wish as you blow it. Definitely a springtime favorite.
White-Tailed Deer [Soft brown suede, golden musk, wild forest berries, and roasted chestnuts dusted with maple sugar] - I am always hesitant about suede, but was very happy when this was included as a free sample because I'd heard lovely things about it but wouldn't have purchased it for myself. It's an interesting one because my experience is of it is very different depending on distance. When I'm just smelling it as it wafts around me, it's such a warm, cozy scent, the suede mingling with chestnut and brown sugar. When I bring my wrist directly up to my nose to sniff, the suede does get a bit overwhelmingly leathery, and overtakes the other notes. Once it dries, though, that unpleasantly smoky leatheriness dissipates (even right up under my nose), leaving only the highly autumnal coziness behind. It is indeed very "golden" - or maybe a really rich, warm brown. I don't get any berries at all. It reminds me of the very stylized acorns and hedgehogs that fellow autumn-lovers love to idolize. (And for some reason, Husband gets saffron!)

Personally...

Robin's Egg, Sugar Glider, and Elf Owl are some of my TOP favorite perfumes for spring; Fennec Fox for fall; and Silver Fox for winter. Black Squirrel is my favorite of the Squirrels (in fact I ended up destashing all the others since I continue to have some issues with NCD's apricot note) - it's so beautifully dark-academia. And in my opinion, the three Rabbits are absolute must-tries (and I hold so much hope for a new Rabbit this year!). If you try nothing else from this collection, try whichever of the three Rabbits most calls your name - they're all different but all absolutely stunning.
What are you hoping for this year? Any particular animals you're keeping fingers crossed for? Do we think it'll be mostly woodland creatures this year, or perhaps we'll get some oceanic or other Critters too?

i can’t find that much info online but they do say like that it’s “3G” and idk it seems like it would support those 2 apps? i just need to be more sure before making a purchase… what do y’all think? is there any blackberry i can functionally use? thanks :))

2024.02.20 16:12 TeaAndCozy Nui Cobalt Bees are coming! 29 reviews from past years

Hello folks, I'm back with a new pre-collection-release post! Nui Cobalt's Bees collection will be returning this Friday, February 23. 🐝🐝🐝
In my humble opinion, the Bees collection is one of Nui Cobalt's very best (that and Yule, I think). Each year I literally count down the days to its release - it represents the start of spring for me with its delicacy, airiness, honey-sweetness, and, of course, its stunning florals. For anybody who is newish to indies, Nui Cobalt's Bees collection features honey in various different forms (whipped, spiced, floral blossom-tinged) and I can say from experience that even if honey notes from other houses don't work on you, it's very well worth giving these a try. Honey can be a difficult note in perfume, often smelling like cat pee (with which it shares several chemical compounds), but NCD's don't have that problem. They've said outright that they create "fantasy" honey accords that evoke the smell and idea of honey but without the urine-like elements. Personally their white whipped honey is my favorite! But all of their honey accords - and they have at least four or five different ones - are all really special. And along with the Bees comes the smaller partner collection, Nui's Favorite Things.
This review post surveys all 29 of the Bees and Favorite Things that I've been delighted to try. Sadly, some of them have been discontinued (I live in hope that Honeymoon Suite may someday recur!) but I'll still list all that I've tried here, to make this a more helpfully comprehensive resource in case if you find any older Bees in the swaps and are curious to read some thoughts on them. I'd love to hear if any of these catch your eye - what are you most hoping will return this year?
Many of these were provided as press samples in past years in exchange for honest reviews.

Bees

Ancient Apiary [Deadfall draped in oakmoss, wild pink roses, honeycomb bursting from frail brood boxes and pouring gold from every cell] - When applied, something about the combination of "deadfall" and "brood boxes" with honey veritably screams "COLA!" How interesting, I haven't fallen prey to the cola effect before this. (It actually made me mistakenly think there was frankincense in this blend, which there isn't, at least not among the listed notes.) Happily, as soon as it begins drying (so, like, 2 minutes later) the almost-incensey woody notes and the honey disentangle, bringing in a faint undertone of roses and the dusty, almost mossy green of the oakmoss. This perfume feels lush but also vintage, almost like a sepia-toned photograph.
Bee Kind To Yourself [White copal, blooming peony, honeyed tea, pink amber, and sheer summer-weight cashmere] - First off, I absolutely have to give credit to our very own, amazing u/propheticperfumes, who suggested this scent to Nui Cobalt. It's a stunner both in its concept and execution (and it quickly became a crowd favorite here at IMAM). On application, it's a delicately floral-tinged honey; and definitely a liquid golden honey rather than the airier, whiter whipped honey of Queen Bee. I get a lot of honey and an overlay of pink peony at this stage. Once Bee Kind To Yourself reaches its full expression, it's gorgeous. As it dries, the copal smoke and musky woolly cashmere emerge to join the honey and peony, and if I look for it, I can even find a hint of tea. I had thought this would be a summer perfume for me (though the musk is a little too heavy for summer, when I prefer more freshness and lightness), but by happy chance, I happened to wear it for yoga one day - it was phenomenal as a yoga perfume and I still have no idea why, but it has remained in the yoga section of my perfume collection ever since.
Bee You Tiful [Honey-roasted pistachio and chestnut, pink magnolia, and sweet apple blossom] - Honeyed-salty-toasty nuts harmonizing with the florals, particularly the apple blossom. Nui Cobalt has a gorgeous apple blossom note; see also Pixie [An apple orchard in bloom, spring grasses alive with an unearthly glow, vanilla bean offertory cakes, and sparkling honey mead] and Venus Amica [Sun-warmed wildflowers, olivewood, apple blossom, light amber, moringa leaf, and sacred benzoin]. The honey, pistachio, and faint apple combine in Bee You Tiful to be reminiscent of some sort of delightful pastry - is a pistachio-apple galette a thing? And yet this isn't a realistic gourmand, especially with the wafting florals making it much more atmospheric. The overall impression is of a garden party. Many hours later, the top-note florals are gone, but the gentle nuts remain. If you like the pistachio in Akhal-Teke [Fine ecru suede, raw silk, pearl musk, white amber, precious Hawaiian sandalwood, and creamy pistachio], you should definitely try this one.
The Beekeeper's Funeral [This comforting blend opens with gentle Bulgarian lavender and petrichor, then blooms with Casablanca lily, honeysuckle, and wet grass, and settles at last into a pillow of fluffy whipped honey] - A very pretty, understated floral-aquatic. I get white florals (but not too bold), an herbal lavender, grass, and rain - this petrichor is more the smell of the watery rain itself rather than wet pavement. Oddly enough for this being a Bee, I actually don't get any honey, though there is a little bit of sweetness that reminds me of the white amber in Mirror [Pale amber and white tea are accented by dry coconut, angelica, and cooling rain], in part because of the shared rain note.
Bees' Cotillion [Succulent pears simmering in spring honey with the gentlest breeze of lily carried in a homespun infusion of honeysuckle flowers] - This one makes me depressed because my skin chemistry is the actual worst and turns this beautiful notes list into straight-up craft store candle. I really can't wear NCD's pear, apricot notes, or honeysuckle notes. Other glowing reviews say this scent is just lovely, but on me it goes straight Yankee Candle.
The Bees' Carnival [Cotton candy spun from crystallized honey, fresh leaves of lemon verbena, blue raspberry drizzle, and a grounding smolder of sweet myrrh] - This one shouts COTTON CANDY and a lot of honey, with only mere hints of the lemon and blue raspberry. If you love the cotton candy of Nephophilia [A fluffy melange of pink cotton candy, ivory cashmere, silk tree blossoms, blush suede, and steamed vanilla] but wanted it to have even more cotton candy, The Bees' Carnival is for you! Other scents in this family are Scoundrel: Blue Cotton Candy [Our blue cotton candy accord is spun from silken tonka, Mexican vanilla bean, sparkling sugar, marshmallow fluff, preserved Damson plum, and barely a twinkle of unripe bergamot] (which isn't so much "blue raspberry"), and Land of Sweets [Sugared rose petals, blue cotton candy, miniature marshmallows, pistachio ice cream, and a drizzle of white chocolate] (which is mostly sugared rose on a bed of gourmand sweets). I always expect a more distinct blue raspberry note in The Bees' Carnival, but happily I do have Blue Moon [A diaphanous lunar musk entwines living honeysuckle and sugared blue raspberry] and Dewdrops on Spidersilk [Cerulean strands of cotton flower bejeweled with dewdrops, cold crystalline musk, tiny black vanilla beans, frozen blue raspberry, and gentle incense] to scratch that itch. The herbal quality of the lemon verbena and the slight earthiness of the myrrh come out in the drydown, keeping the really golden nature of this honey from becoming too cloying.
The Bees' High Tea [Delicate vanilla cakes with rose petal preserves, elderflower wine, and Earl Grey tea with a dainty drop of spring harvest honey] - This one is so much fun: a grapey rose jam and fizzy champagne, with a hint of vanilla coming out as it dries. Wearing it makes me feel like I'm attending an elegant summer brunch, or perhaps I'm a picnicker with Emma Woodhouse on Box Hill. It is lovely, feminine and playful. If you've tried Pixie [An apple orchard in bloom, spring grasses alive with an unearthly glow, vanilla bean offertory cakes, and sparkling honey mead], Bees' High Tea is quite similar with its vanilla cake and slightly fizzy aspect, but with honey instead of Pixie's yeasty mead, and with elderflower instead of apple blossom. The grapey elderberry also reminds me of Achievement Unlocked [A bold blend of Mahogany and Merlot with tart elderberry and a single long-stemmed rose].
Bees Love Blue [Forget-me-not blossoms, imperial iris, blue lotus, delphinium, dwarf lilac, and hidcote lavender on a cloud of whipped white honey] - This one is delicately floral and very much light purplish-blue in its scent color. Of the many flowers present here, I particularly get the iris (less musky here than in several other iris-centered perfumes I've tried) and the delicate, feminine forget-me-not (reminiscent of Robin's Egg [Dainty forget-me-nots and lily of the valley, a dollop of whipped blueberry creme, and a cozy birch nest tucked into a flowering dogwood tree]). Bees Love Blue has astonishing longevity; this is one of the NCD perfumes that will last all day on me. I adore this one, though you do have to like florals to enjoy it, because it's gorgeous florals and light airy honey and nothing else.
Bees on the Bayou [Vines heavy with honeysuckle entwined with Easter lily, linden blossom, and neroli over a sweet foundation of pipe tobacco, pralines, and creamed honey] - The pralines and tobacco together make me smell a sort of milk chocolate note, but that's secondary to the truly lovely white florals, the velvety kind rather than the brash in-your-face sort. NCD's honeysuckle often doesn't work for me, but here combined with the plush lily and slightly greenish, airy linden blossom the florals are altogether gorgeous. Husband agrees, saying that he truly enjoys smelling that waft of flower petals from my wrist, but on closer inspection he says he gets a sort of artificial blueberry note (??? yet again, what's up with his nose?). We both seem to agree, though, that this one is gorgeous florals accented by the more gourmand notes.
Busy Bee [A blend of Oolong and Tibetan black tea with peach blossom honey, cardamom, and clove, sharpened with pink peppercorn and dry oakwood] - Tea, honey, and warm spices. Unlike the other Bees, many of which tend to be spring and summer perfumes for me, I wear this one exclusively in fall. It is such a fantastic autumn perfume for days when you don't want apple or pumpkin or overwhelming chai spices. Sadly discontinued! I made sure to get a backup before it disappeared.
Dancing Bee [Peach trees barely budding, dewy white violet, honeysuckle, angelica and orris roots, frankincense, allspice, and spring harvest honey] - Skin chem strikes again: I really can't wear NCD's honeysuckle; I just seem to amp honeysuckle to the exclusion of all other notes. At least here the frankincense is giving it a bit of a run for its money, so I do get a slightly cola-ish incense behind that candley honeysuckle. Where's my peach tree, violet, angelica, and orris root? Boo. If NCD's honeysuckle note works for you - and it seems like I'm quite unusual in it not working for me - do give Dancing Bee a try. I have seen reviews praising the delicacy of its floral notes and I'm just so jealous.
Emotional Support Bee [Ivory-blush rose petals, orange blossom honey, apple blossoms, melissa leaf, silken shea, sacred benzoin, and just a hint of calming clary sage] - This was one that I picked up on the strength of many IMAM rave reviews - I couldn't resist the chance to try it myself! I get primarily rose, honey, and clary sage, with orange blossom and shea butter there if I look for them. This is a very pretty and calming scent. It is recognizably similar to Somniphilia [Lamb's wool accord, orange blossom, barely-budding lavender, melissa, green fig, clary, cloud musk, and weightless vanilla marshmallow meringue] but without the sugary and airy vanilla that makes Somniphilia candy-like; the honey here in Emotional Support Bee is more a syrupy, golden richness rather than sweetness. When dry, it has a certain brown-sugary, Little Brown Rabbit-esque note, and Husband especially likes it at this stage.
Hive in the Wild [Budding maple trees beside a swift stream, snowdrops nodding over vernal pools, and dewy dogwoods offer a trove of nectar to fill a fledgeling hive] - Why was I so excited to try this one, even though I'm not really one for woody perfumes? The snowdrops. All the cottagecore folks on Instagram always post photos of snowdrops starting in mid-February in celebration of the coming of spring. I was a little skittish because the notes description is mostly woods, but then it turns out to be mostly maple syrup, not maple trees, with a snowdrop that is more green and fresh than flowery.
Honey, I'm Home [Snowdrops and fresh nectar from their first petals unfurled, golden sunlight, yellow crocus, and warmed honeycomb] - This one is GORGEOUS, one of my top two favorites from the new Bees last year. It's the light-golden warmth of an early spring day. After an initial burst of warm but airy honey, the honey blends in with the flowers, which really are yellow in their scent color. There's nothing grassy about these florals but they remind me of chamomile nonetheless - chamomile and daisies perhaps, they're just so cheerful and happy. This is the springtime sibling to Yellow Leaves [Blooming moringa, olivewood, coriander, oakmoss, tangerine, and helichrysum], the most perfect autumnal floral. After its initial burst of honey, this scent dries down to cling quite closely to my skin, a private little bubble of buoyancy and optimism. If you liked the recently-released Fey Touched [Sunflower petals, honeyed almond, yuzu, sacred benzoin, and prismatic mist from woodland stream dappled in sunlight], you should definitely try this one; it shares the same warm, glowing, carefree vibe.
Honeymoon Suite [Santorini olivewood, Caribbean teak, St. Simons peach groves, and 1000 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets with traces of tuberose, sea glass, and wild honey] - I love love love this one! It's been discontinued, just tragic. It goes on strong but immediately dries down to a soft and lovely perfume without much throw: a gentle peach paired with a light-colored and ever-so-slightly floral honey, with the teak, cotton, and aquatic "sea glass" notes combining to make this a "spa-like" scent--but an unusually delicate and pretty one. I've been rationing my sample ever since.
It's Hive Code [Spring harvest honey, a faithful accord of rare Ghost Orchid, neroli and bergamot hand lotion, and a dark base of melted fudge] - I got this sample because most of these notes sounded absolutely heavenly. Honey, orchid, neroli, and bergamot? Count me in - that sounds amazingly light and springy. I kept my fingers crossed that the fudge would be minimal. In the vial, it's a base of honey and chocolate fudge, with the light citrus and floral above, and on my skin, it continues to be a fight between the gorgeous, breezy springtime floral and the heavier, waxy (almost tootsie roll-ish) chocolate. And it's so strange, because up close, the chocolate is so much less obvious that it really almost is the scent I wanted it to be. Personally, I just really wish it didn't have the fudge - I think all of the other notes are just perfect! All in all, It's Hive Code is much more atmospheric than springtime. Like the the several NCD blends that pair caramel with wildly different notes (Mad Scientist, Glass Pumpkin, Venus Verticordia), this one is a thoroughly unexpected combination. My approach to it is also slightly hampered by the fact that I haven't seen the Netflix show (Wednesday) that it's an homage to.
Like Bees to Honey [Four fabulous vanillas swirled with Tupelo honey, mangosteen, saffron, pink grapefruit, Egyptian musk, ivory amber, cardamom, Grains of Paradise, and Queen Elizabeth root] - This one features the sweetness of vanilla and honey, cut with a hint of bitter citrus peel and almost rose-like spices. From a distance, it's a complex brown sugar. It's definitely in the same family as my beloved Little Brown Rabbit [Nutmeg and tonka bean nuzzle up against fluffy marshmallow, cottonflower, pink pepper, and a trace of carrot seed], and while I wouldn't necessarily call Like Bees to Honey "snuggly," it is an extremely "warm" perfume.
Napping in a Flower [Tender ripe apricot, Bulgarian lavender, spiced summer honey, plum blossom, daylily, honeysuckle, and ylang] - First off, how cute is the name? Unfortunately, that apricot note just won't work on me, and on my skin this perfume smells like a fall candle and spiced nuts. Meanwhile, Husband smells florals when he sniffs my wrist, specifically lilac. Dry, the honey note becomes individually discernable, and it is rich and golden. I wanted this one to work on me so badly but even after a year of aging it wouldn't, so I destashed it.
None of Your Beeswax [Thorny brambles of blackberry, elderflower, violet, fennel seed, sacred benzoin, and unfiltered honey] - This one is bit fruity in a purplish sense, a bit woody, and a bit floral. It's well-blended and none of the individual elements stands out too much. It reminds me of Blue Jay [Sturdy blue spruce and young oak support the bold elegance of white peony, angelica, blackberry bramble, and rhubarb], another woody-fruity-floral perfume that also features blackberry bramble specifically, but perhaps in a more unassuming way - None of Your Beeswax is the shyer springtime cousin of the more summery Blue Jay.
Queen Bee [Creamy white gardenia and fluffy whipped honey] - This one is stunning in its simplicity: the gardenia is fragrant and almost spicy, and the honey is sharp and sweet. In the first year I owned it, there was an undertone of sharp spearmint, but that smoothed out by the second spring. Now I can't stop wearing it constantly every spring, and it has actually shot up above Bees Love Blue as my favorite Bee.
She Stopped to Pet a Bumblebee [Cocoa butter and shea, cotton flower, silk tree, apple blossom, wildflower honey, bee balm, and heliotrope] - Another adorable name! When I first apply it, I get quasi-Yankee candle vibes like Napping in a Flower and Bees' Cotillion, which is odd because it doesn't share any notes with them. As it dries though, any candle association goes away and it becomes the most lovely, intimate, and expensive lotion, soft and skin-musky. This is definitely a "my skin but better" perfume.
Wasp [Fresh linen, crisp chardonnay, and a rain-quenched herb garden edged with impeccable boxwood topiaries] - Another stunner, evoking the feeling of a summer garden without any earthy or vegetal notes (which I personally really appreciate, since soil notes are not my thing). The chardonnay is most prominent, and it's more elderflower than aldehyde, with a crisp, clean linen note blowing behind it, and herbs that are more mossy than sharp. Funny how this Bee doesn't contain any honey! But it doesn't need it; it's perfect just as it is. Another one that has been tragically discontinued.
Witches' Apiary [Peru balsam, almond shells, mahogany, olive wood, and dark, viscous honey conjured from the blossoms of blackberry brambles] - This one is woody and resinous, with a strong and unexpected predominance of coconut husk (not in the notes, but that's definitely what it smells like on me). I only get the woody, dry husk part, though Husband smells coconut flesh as well. This scent reminds me of Aphrodite Chrysea [Sacred benzoin, amber and copal resins, Moroccan cashmere, pink sandalwood, osmanthus, guava, and coconut milk chai] and it would be a great summertime scent for folks who like dry woodsy scents. (This does not describe me or my perfume tastes. So I destashed it.)
Wretched Hive of Scum & Villainy [Portrait of an extraterrestrial desert and its elusive denizens: dry white sandalwood, Tunisian tea, cracked coriander, cassia bark, amber resin, raw cotton, and combs full of precious honey that few will ever taste] - Friends, Nui Cobalt has done it again: another spectacular black tea scent! This one is black tea spiced with coriander and cinnamon, gently sweetened with honey, and with some very subtle nuances of cotton flower and sandalwood (making it a much more rainy-day-cozy scent than the perfume's name might suggest). This tea note is more incensey than Blarney: Irish Breakfast Tea [The warm, tannic comfort of a proper Cuppa sweetened with a touch of raw honey and smoothed with fresh cream], more like the black tea in Unbought & Unbossed: A Tribute to Shirley Chisholm [The fragrance inspired by her is a strong and sophisticated spiced tea with raw honey and Barbados sugar sipped among the sunlit roses of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden] and Cloak of Evergreens [Snow-covered spruce, iced cedar tips, golden pine sap, icicle musk, and the fading memory of tea by the fireside]. I'm a big fan.

Nui's Favorite Things

All Dolled Up [Spiced apricot preserves, almond blossom, pink peony, Hawaiian and Australian sandalwoods, balsam of Peru, and sunlit amber] - Despite the notes list starting off with apricot and almond, All Dolled Up does NOT read like a Squirrel (which all start with the same base: "A playful blend of almond and spiced apricot, grounded in rich benzoin and copaiba balsam"). Instead, it reminds me strongly of Rose Gold Sky [Fuzzy apricot, amber resin, styrax, pink sandalwood, clove bud, melissa, and blush rose], but lighter and more warm-weather. When I first tried this, I didn't have the notes list in front of me (and I didn't remember it), so my impression that this scent is pink amber + apricot + clove (see the connection to Rose Gold Sky?) was completely independent of the actual official notes. Then seeing the notes list a little later in the day, I could also easily make out the peony (a very "pink" floral), which is a big part of why this reads as more summery than Rose Gold Sky.
Blanket Fort [Cotton flower, grey suede, warm amber, green fig, tumbled teakwood, and raw vanilla bean] - This scent is a suede blanket, soft and heavy, a comforting weight draped over your legs, and maybe you're nuzzling your nose against a corner because it's so silky. I honestly don't get any other distinct notes besides "suede blanket," and the NCD cotton flower note is definitely more on the "fabric" than "soapy" side. And it is an unmistakably grey scent. Honestly, Blanket Fort reminds me of nothing so much as a stuffed-animal seal, with the thick warm rubberiness of a sealskin transformed into soft cuddly fabric.
Candlelight [Molten vanilla caramel, Egyptian musk, mahogany, honey amber, black tea, cathedral incense, a pinch of galangal, and a glimmer of white grapefruit] - Caramel and honey, thick and rich and luscious, backed by golden amber, a touch of grapefruit to cut the molten sweetness, and a whole lot of very expensive-smelling Egyptian musk. There are some indistinct spices too, which is perhaps how my nose is reading the black tea and incense. (This is a bummer, because I LOVE Nui Cobalt's black tea + incense combo, but this scent doesn't really feature them.) It's a heavy, luxurious scent, a sister to Ailurophilia (Love of Cats) [Egyptian musk, tonka, and dulce de leche wrapped in luxuriant cashmere, soft suede, wisps of sandalwood and copal smoke]. Its dark, honeyed quality is also reminiscent of Arcana Snug [The scent of staying in to watch the snow fall: dark honey amber, marshmallow, and the glow of beeswax candles], but with caramel instead of beeswax. This one has tremendous throw, much stronger than most Nui Cobalts, and (based on a conversation with a colleague who smelled "pancakes" from across the room when I wore it) to an untrained nose, apparently smells extremely (and solely) like maple syrup! To me, though, it's not nearly as similar to the mapley Little Brown Rabbit as it is to the caramel of Ailurophilia.
Fairy Garden [Cool dewdrops cupped in clover leaves, early purple orchid, a porcelain thimble of green tea with oat milk, and frosted almond cakes served in an acorn cap] - It goes on more gourmand than I was expecting, primarily oat milk, green tea, and sugary frosting. Behind these are a bit of acorn earthiness (I recognize a similar acorn note to Deep Midnight Wildwood [Pumpkin Bread, Incense, Acorns, Dried Apple and Orange Peels, Fading Bonfire], the only other place I've experienced an acorn accord) and a touch of floral. At first (and to my surprise, based on the order of the notes list), I don't get any aquatic dewdrop nor any grassy clover but as the scent dries, these start to emerge as the sweetness of the frosting recedes. Eventually, all these notes combine to create a very detailed scent portrait not just of a fairy garden, but of the fairies holding a fancy tea party among the flowers. It's sort of in the same family as Poesie Green Girl [Pistachio, wildflower honey, oatmilk matcha latte, heliotrope blossoms, marshmallow musk], and a similar Poesie-style whimsicality.
Parisian Pink [Peony petals, a suede settee, osmanthus, silk tree, spun sugar, Margaret Merril roses, pink grapefruit, and antique sandalwood] - Without looking at the notes, several of my first impressions were spot-on...and for some reason (maybe the combination of peony + grapefruit?) I also get strawberries! On my skin when first applied, this perfume is strawberry, suede, silk, and an overwhelming aura of PINK! It's gorgeous and makes me feel like a pretty pretty princess. As it dries, the distinctly strawberry note subsides, and it becomes a little more nonspecifically floral and sweet, still with those lovely NCD fabric notes of suede and silk. I have worn this several times to the ballet, actually - it's perfect for the occasion. If you like the recent Switch [Champagne, Lady's Slipper orchid, Egyptian cotton, kudzu, pomegranate, and pink larkspur], which to me is very "pink strawberry soda" (full review post coming soon!), you should definitely try Parisian Pink.

Personally...

My favorites of the florals are Queen Bee and Bees Love Blue. Forest has also teased that the new Bees released this year will have a floral theme, so I'm really excited to see what new honeyed florals are coming our way!
My favorite distinctly seasonal scents in this collection are Honey, I'm Home for early spring, The Bees' High Tea for spring leading into summer, Honeymoon Suite and Wasp for high summer, and Busy Bee for fall.
Bee Kind To Yourself is one of NCD's truly iconic scents, and not to be missed - especially because it was inspired by a member of this community!
Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy stands alongside Cheat Code and Blarney: Irish Breakfast Tea as one of my favorite all-purpose NCD tea scents.
And if you're looking for gentle, delicate, my-skin-but-better scents, try Emotional Support Bee and She Stopped to Pet a Bumblebee.

2024.02.08 09:53 imgrungegoth26 [TOMT](music) [2013-2014] song that came loaded on the BlackBerry phone [Rock / Pop-Punk)?]

Hello, For years I have been looking for a song that came by default on BlackBerry cell phones (those with a touch button in the middle and keys), I'm not talking about "harmony to my heartbeat." (Great song btw)
Maybe was a Bold Touch / Curve 9300 / Bold 9700 / BlackBerry Classic (all I remember is that it was black) I'm not sure if it was mine or my father's but it had a texture on the back. (my dad's had Harmony to my heartbeat uploaded)
The song was Rock or Pop-punk, I’m talking about a band between 2010 - 2014 (that alternative style of that time, It was a band, the vocalist was a man, not that old).
The fact that I was 11/12 years old at that time, the melody of the song is not in my memory, I remember the video of the song in fractions and it is somewhat distorted.
The only thing I remember is that at the end of the song there was a buzzing sound and most of the scenes in the video were in a patio and in a house (a garage also comes to mind) - Whether it was the name of the band or the song, they had signs Like this: (@$&!) I remember because it was difficult for me to write the song on YouTube in my laptop.
I'm from Latin America, it seems to me that the songs loaded in the gallery/playlist depend on the location where you purchased the cell phone. (I’m not sure about it and my dad may have acquired it outside my country)
Thank you very much in advance for those who help me, I have really been looking for it for many years. 💞

2024.01.10 00:30 Serious-Substance348 First Impressions feat. Liis, Diptyque, and Zoologist!

First Impressions feat. Liis, Diptyque, and Zoologist!
I ordered a bunch of samples from LuckyScent for the first time!! I'm so thrilled with their selection, and their shipping was timely. For reference, some of my favorite scents include Polo Earth, Dedcool Milk, Dedcool Smiley Face Garden, and Glossier You. Here's what I tried out:
Zoologist Snowy Owl-- The inspiration is SPOT on here. The notes really emulate the feeling of that snow smell--it doesn't smell like snow, but it FEELS that way. (For instance, the way dedcool's milk feels warm with a sniff). It was bold at the top, but is developing nicely. The musk, cedar, and moss notes are evident. I think I'll wear the sample a few times before I give a clear verdict. If anyone is a Disney theme park fan, the energy reminds me of one a scent they pump in. A solid introduction to the line!
Diptyque Do Son EDP-- The tuberose is strong here, and as such, it smells very similar to Gucci Bloom EDT, which I love as is. Ever so slightly greenefresher. Since I have Bloom, I don't think I'll pick this one up.
Diptyque Philosykos EDP-- This one is quite lovely!! Definitely started candle-like and developed to a milky green scent. I love figs, and I do enjoy the scent. Unfortunately the woodiness might be just a touch too strong for me (or I've smelled too many at this point LOL). I was interested in this because of the solid they offer. I'm gonna give it a full wear, but I don't know if it's for me. It's giving pier one a bit?
Liis Ethereal Wave-- Top notes immediately give fancy hotel in the best way. It is also very reminiscent of Earl Grey, but develops into this creamy, almost vanilla sweetness. Very classy and mature, but not in a old way. Think grown up!
Liis Floating-- The notes here are spot on. In my mind, you can't get much better than a clean linen citrus. I think this might be the one for me. Would strike many as a distinctly summer scent, but seasons are a social construct in the scent world to me lol. Like some reviews share, it seems to float...away quite quickly. If I can get it to last in a full wear, it's a winner though!
Liis Lucienne-- I find this one a touch too lemon for me on the top notes, it also has the most subtle scent of the Liis samples from the get go. Develops similar to Ocean di Gioia for my money. I have ODG, so I don't think this will be the one I go for. As I edit this, though, it’s mellowed out. It reminds me of “fancy California seaside resort.” I will reconsider!
There you have it! If anyone has any questions or has experienced these scents I’d love to hear your thoughts!

2023.12.31 19:06 Bruhmangoddman A Super Long Ranking of Everything I Watched in 2023

  1. Extraction 2 - God, what a waste of time. Hardly any character was compelling, the movie scared with its visual blandness, action itself underwhelmed. One of the characters’ death scene was so overdone I laughed. Now, mind you, I almost NEVER laugh at death in movies, so that should give you an example of how mediocre this shit was.
    1. Pan Samochodzik/Mr. Samochodzik - this is the first non-American movie and the first Polish one. Brace yourselves, you’re going to see quite a few of these. In short, the movie is fairly insulting to the original books, does nothing with the semi-interesting reinterpretation of the character, provides some very clunky characterization and semi-decent action. I’d say its most redeeming quality is the fact that its nonsensical execution made for hilarious comedy sometimes.
    2. Knights of the Zodiac - this finally had proper visuals, but the plot was more confusing. The inciting incident itself doesn’t make sense! Why does Athena, the goddess of wisdom and “just” war possess a random girl and intend to destroy the world? Well, you will never know because fuck the audience. It’s amazing how lacking almost everything is and how utterly formulaic the movie is at times. Didn’t help that the bigger caliber actors were wasted.
    3. Akademia Pana Kleksa/Kleks Academy - the first non-American movie. A valiant if lacking effort to revive the world and characters of a classic Polish book for children. Overall, I’d say this is something between a remake, a reboot, a sequel and a prequel to the original book. So we already have a mess. The pacing is very uneven, the acting kind of works, the scenery and visuals kind of slay occasionally, overall the technical execution does a lot of heavy lifting. But the heavy-handed themes (even if praiseworthy in concept) and very clunky dialogue combined with questionable editing brings this down quite a bit.
    4. The Marvels - another very confused movie that wastes most of its prominent characters. I feel very sorry for Brie Larson and Zawe Ashton, they deserved a better movie. A longer, darker one. I would also feel sorry for Iman Vellani, but she slayed and her character, Kamala Khan, was actually written engagingly and consistently. The visuals provide some nice views from time to time, there is overall creativity and a vision to all this, but it all feels too disjointed, rushed, undercooked. The result is a film with some heart, comedic beats and spectacle that will somewhat keep your attention. But nothing more.
    5. Creed III - Maybe it was my mistake to go for this without watching the two previous movies, but I digress. The movie is overall well executed, has some nice tension, I like Donnie and Dame as characters, but I just… don’t have a whole lot to say about it. It’s a nicely done, inoffensive, a little bland, but fine movie.
    6. You People - contrary to almost everyone around, I like this movie. I found Ezra and Amara’s relationship believable, Julia Louis Dreyfus and Eddie Murphy did well as the oppositely annoying parents to each of the protagonists, the humor had me laughing heartily at times and the movie even drops some truth bombs at times.
    7. Mafia Mamma - a surprisingly well-realized fish-out-of-water comedy. Toni Collette fit the main character like a glove, she works amazing as this super driven yet frantic woman who was pulled into murky mafia shit. The supporting characters and antagonists are likeable, interesting and well motivated. The movie doesn’t do much blunders, it’s not really great but it works fine for what it sets out to achieve.
    8. R.M.N./Electromagnetic Resonance - this time we dip our fingers in Eastern Europe, Romania specifically. The acclaimed director Cristian Mungiu sets forth a very atmospheric and engrossing piece of political/social commentary that succeeds for the most part. Most, because the protagonist is almost completely disconnected from the drama of two Asian immigrants trying to work and acclimate to a remote Romanian village. The movie sometimes lost its focus, but when it had it, it worked wonders in its uncompromising desire to examine modern Romanian society.
    9. Kryptonim Polska/Codename Poland - the penultimate motion picture from my homeland in this ranking. Gotta say, I did not expect this movie to be as good as it was. It’s a pretty straightforward if insanely biting piece of political satire. Shit had me HOLLERING with laughter at how well it ridiculed the stupid crap we Poles pull these days. The characters were well realized, and I especially appreciate the antagonists effortlessly switching between comedic mooks to actual intimidating nationalists. The movie overall succeeds in broad tone shifts.
    10. Beau Is Afraid - while I believe Ari Aster had every right to put everything he did in the movie, sometimes he just overdid it. The craziness was well-presented, but sometimes the film just behaved insane for the sake of it. A balls-tripping adventure is very cool but can sometimes get nauseating and overdone. Still, the movie engrossed me with its striking aesthetics, delightfully unhinged characters and some deep themes. I just wish he didn’t turn the movie’s main antagonist, into a mouthpiece that spelled everything out in a damn monologue. The ending, however? Shit was right up my alley. It was subtle enough to not look on the nose but explicit enough to be immediately understandable. It felt grim, but was also a supremely fitting conclusion to the movie and Beau himself.
    11. The Flash - this movie somehow manages to be more insane than BIA. And yet it overall is somewhat better. I was initially harsh on the score, but it grew on me with time and I can safely say Benjamin Wallfisch did a good job. The acting slays, Ezra Miller, his behavior notwithstanding, is Barry Allen to me, maybe as much as Grant Gustin. EM portrayed both Barry 1 and 2 perfectly, Ben Affleck put in a very good if brief performance as DCEU Batman, everyone else did fine as well. Barry 2 is a fantastic character that you root for, get annoyed by and feel sorry for, experiencing believable growth and development in a super engaging way. The effects somewhat suck balls, but the overall cinematography and direction make up for it. However, the movie FLOUNDERS hard in the 3rd act and it's due to it that I cannot call the Flash anything more than good.
    12. The Killer - a very well paced and elegantly executed thriller from David Fincher. Fun cinematography, another compelling performance from Fassbender. Also liked the themes of the movie and the protagonist’s arc. Overall, a movie with somewhat high highs and kinda low lows.
    13. John Wick: Chapter 4 - as emotionally flat as this movie is, I really like it. The visuals are insane for a simple hitman movie, the action, even if self-indulgent, is overall top notch, the actors give it their all and the pacing maintains a steady flow that makes for an enjoyable watching experience. Maybe if the screenplay was more thematically and emotionally loaded I’d crank it up a bit…
    14. Luther: The Fallen Sun - surprised me, because certain parts of the beginning jarred me. However, the movie soon turned into a high-octane but restrained and somewhat grounded thriller that plays with some timely themes. All Andy Serkis, Idris Elba and Cynthia Erivo give great performances, with the shoutout to the latter, she did great in the 3rd act especially. Lorne Balfe goes INSANE with a score that manages to be inspiring, tense, menacing and soulful. Shit is crazy underrated. The action in this movie was also very well executed.
    15. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - the first great movie on the list. Somehow, bringing back the familiar elements from the previous Indy films did not feel jarring, but rather in-place. I felt Helena was rather charismatic and properly developed as a character, the spin Mangold put here on the Nazis provides a very fresh angle that I really enjoyed, the action doesn’t lose the old Spielbergian energy and liveliness and the last 10 minutes are just beautiful. The conclusion to Indiana Jones and Harrison Ford’s tenure in the role touched me deeply. I personally believe this is the best conclusion an old Indy could have gotten.
    16. The Pale Blue Eye - This rather slow burn of a movie stuns with fascinating shots of a wintery New York and some rather immaculate acting. The final payoff with Bale’s character, August Landor, makes for a supremely rewarding ending, if incredibly dark. I also enjoyed Harry Melling’s portrayal of Edgar Allan Poe and the semi-psychedelic vibe maintained throughout the plot.
    17. El Puño del CóndoThe Fist of the Condor - a surprisingly well-made Chilean martial arts film. Marko Zaror shines as the actor playing the lead and the antagonist, as well as the combat choreographer behind the fight scenes. Ernesto Espinoza, the writer-director of the film, presents an atmospheric and energetic 80 minute flick which combines high-octane Latino martial arts with spiritual themes, leading to a resolution with the Hoist By His Own Petard trope. While a fine trope in of itself, it is cranked up to awesome levels by the INSANE execution of it as writing, juxtaposition and cinematography combine to create a moment of pure filmmaking magic. Definite recommendation!
    18. The In-Laws/Teściowie - the final Polish film on the list. I expected a semi-serious comedy in a confined setting, what I got was an absurdly captivating escalation drama. Accompanied, I should add, by inspired performances from the 4 lead actors, incredibly atmospheric cinematography and a string of mysteries and reveals that kept me engaged and thrilled. Very strong writing, especially with the ending twist.
    19. Maestro - this is the highest ranked movie I have mixed feelings about. Sometimes, it lacks focus, is incredibly on-the-nose and kinda beats about the bush. But most of the time it gives a compelling insight into the relationship of Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre. Cooper and Mulligan both shine as the leads, and their performances improve as their characters age. The displays of Bernstein’s musical skills, as sparse as they were, felt incredibly telling and impactful. The camera went CRAZY, Matthew Libatique deserves an Oscar nom for the almost painting-like visual look he crafted with Cooper for the movie. And Bernstein’s music befitted the overall pic utterly. This is a case of very high highs outmatching low lows.
    20. Napoleon - screw the critics, this movie won me over. I was kind of waiting for it, hoping Ridley Scott would be unapologetic in his portrayal of the emperor. And he was. Napoleon was portrayed as such a vainglorious shitheel, I could not believe my eyes. I was utterly giddy at how the movie effortlessly switched between satire and drama while still remembering to get me to care for the two leads. Great performances by Phoenix and Kirby. FANTASTIC direction and photography for the battles of Toulon and Austerlitz. Impressive score by Martin Phipps. Wow!
    21. BlackBerry - a movie about phones and the communication market, boring? You’d think so, but this one is actually sort of a tour de force. Stylized with retro aesthetics, brimming with unmistakable energy and personality, BlackBerry takes us on a captivating journey of the titular phone and the people who made it, their rise and their fall. Glenn Howerton and Jay Baruchel shine as the two leads, Jim Balsille and Mike Lazaridis, whose relationship reminded me of RDJ and Cillian Murphy as Lewis Strauss and Julius Robert Oppenheimer. Except this is kind of a different spin, and here, one of the protagonists becomes like the other over time, instead of becoming their opposite. It’s very engaging to watch. But the highest praise is reserved for Matt Johnson, director, screenwriter and main supporting actor of the film, who realized a tense yet comedic experience that brilliantly showcases the chaotic and unforgiving landscape of big business.
    22. Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - I had moderate expectations for this one, and shit man, it surpassed them with flying colors! Strong performances all around, with special shoutouts to the two leads playing characters that can’t be easily put into boxes and the gloriously hammy Viola Davis. The movie shines through its atmosphere that sucks you in and themes which infuse the conflict with meaning and make you care about the characters’ fate. Overall, a success on almost all fronts.
    23. Pamfir - No Country For Old Men in Ukraine. However, let me be bold and say this is supremely better than the disappointing NCFOM. While it mirrors the Coens’ movie in showcasing the dissatisfaction and futility of life, it doesn’t spit in my face for being invested in the main characters. The leads are also very human and likeable, and the lack of music somehow works. But Pamfir’s biggest strength is its goddamn visual panache. It’s shot in a very believable and naturalistic yet riveting manner. It makes excellent use of natural scenery and light, showcasing the beauty of Ukraine and coming off as stylized enough to provide a greatly immersive experience.
    24. Barbie - a simple, but very thematically interesting and entertaining exercise in social satire. Love its use of montages and visual storytelling, love the themes behind the movie and the performances of the actors. Ken is a goddamn outstanding character, and Ryan Gosling 100% deserves his Oscar nom. The music is also wicked good when it comes to it, and the movie overall gave me a fun and creative experience that also made me think of certain things.
    25. Oppenheimer - Christopher Nolan just don’t miss, man. He don’t miss at all. Oppenheimer is a fascinating, staggering watch that combines multiple time periods with grace and panache, weaving them together into a compelling character study. Murphy’s Oppenheimer and RDJ’s Strauss are some of the best characters of the decade, and I was more than enthralled by their methodical, gradual evolution over time. Ludwig Goransson puts forward masterful soundtrack pieces as if it was just another Thursday for him, Hoyte Van Hoytema stuns with detailed and crisp yet stylized cinematography, and Jennifer Lame keeps the movie’s pace and energy intact in the editing. This movie is exactly the biopic we need and deserve. The piece de resistance of 2023 cinema.
    26. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - James Gunn’s magnum opus. It was moving, hilarious, tense, fun and grandiose. Despite the plot being fairly straightforward, this movie is anything but simple, as it carefully concludes the development of several recurring characters and brings us a fantastic villain in the flesh of the High Evolutionary. John Murphy proves a worthy replacement for Tyler Bates as the main composer, Henry Braham creates visuals that wow despite the muted colors and I don’t even have to say anything about the outstanding practical effects/makeup/prosthetics work, do I? Also, Rocket Raccoon, who is undoubtedly one of the best and most fleshed out characters in the MCU.
    27. Babylon - what an unbelievably outstanding piece of CINEMA. Jesus. Not only does it have three fully developed leads that I all cared for and rooted for, a supporting cast that can both amuse and move you but also a visual layer that is a goddamn moving painting. With just this movie, Linus Sandgren rose above almost any Hollywood cinematographer. The acting is fantastic, the narrative is thrilling and keeps you interested in further developments, the movie switches flawlessly between comedy, tension and emotion. It even has a bloody chase scene that is in fact one of the best in my memory. It is a damning critique of cinema as an industry and a love letter to it as an art form. All brought together by Damien Chazelle’s expert direction and Justin Hurwitz’s masterful soundtrack. MASTERPIECE!
God I love cinema.

2023.12.31 19:03 Bruhmangoddman A Very Long, Detailed Ranking of (Almost) Every Movie I Watched in 2023

  2. Pan Samochodzik i Templariusze/Mr. Car and the Knights Templar - this is the first non-American movie and the first Polish one.
  11. I just wish he didn’t turn Mona, Beau’s mom and the movie’s main antagonist, into a mouthpiece that spelled everything out in a damn monologue. The ending, however? Shit was right up my alley. It was subtle enough to not look on the nose but explicit enough to be immediately understandable. It felt grim, but was also a supremely fitting conclusion to the movie and Beau himself.
  12. The Flash - this movie somehow manages to be more insane than BIA. And yet it overall is somewhat better. I was initially harsh on the score, but it grew on me with time and I can safely say Benjamin Wallfisch did a good job. 2023 YEAR WRAP UP REVIEW! PART 4: Autumn!
Here we are to take on Fall and it felt like there wasn't a lot released for the season, (probably due to not having a Fall 3 to land on this year), unless you want to say that Halloween is considered Fall 1...but I don't know anymore. Anyways, let's just dive right in! Also if you were looking for the previous parts here's the links!

Kicking off the Fall season, Yeah, what a surprise to see a larger collection for Halloween this year, more or less 3 full bottle FFMs levels of body care! We finally see Vampire Blood in full and were introduced to two new scents! Ghoul Friend also returns but only as a Mini, once again.
Packaging: Starting with Vampire Blood, I was surprised it was kind of on its own with its bottle style, but I love the deep red liquid and the bloodied rose front and center with the cool text/lettering. Even the black lid makes it stand out (especially since I don't have many of those in my collection).
Everlasting Magic and Midnight Spell looks pretty neat too, almost kind of like a goth-esque vibe to them. Loving the spiderwebs of course. Also with the black lids, so it's pretty good overall.
Ghoul Friend though looks almost the same as last year's release
creds to Parade
A little more designed and whatnot. More ghosts and skulls adorn the bottle, but it's still similar to the packaging from 2022 (which is in my picture)

The Scents:

  • Vampire Blood (Red Berries, Night-Blooming Jasmine, Petrifying Plum) - FINALLY, I was so happy to finally see this actually become a full-size body care this year and that it was kind of the mainline scent for the season. Also was pretty excited to have Vampire Blood without the glitter included in the scent for sure. I really get a better scent profile here as I'm getting a tart berry (sometimes I think cherry, but I think it's raspberry/blackberry? Though I do get the floral jasmine right behind and the plum I think it's the deeper fruity smell, but hmmm. Still a lot better to remember than the minis that last few years.
  • Midnight Spell (Mystic Air, Moonlit Woods, Crystal Amber) - I think Midnight Spell is the Autumn's season's Indigo Dreams for me as the scent really is a bit not in my tastes, but I can definitely say Midnight Spell has a more cologne-like feel to it. Not quite sure what it is about it, but I definitely get a woodsy scent on top of some ambery tones that is probably adding to the cologne experience.
  • Everlasting Magic (Bejeweled Berries, Phantom Petals, Magic Musk) - The biggest surprise this year is Everlasting Magic and honestly may be my favorite new scent released this year! I don't know what it is about it, but it smells lovely and I would've been over the moon is this was a signature scent (with all the different products for Halloween). The sad thing is is that the scent notes are pretty vague in description, but I do get the musk which is nice. To me it's like a more boujee Sugared Cherry Crisp without the gourmand elements.
  • Ghoul Friend (Dark Strawberries, Ghostly Peony, Spine-Chilling Citrus) - A little disappointed that Ghoul Friend remains only released as a shimmer mist (though Vampire Blood was released there too). Compared to Vampire Blood, Ghoul Friend is a bit more brighter of a scent and I suppose it's the mix of the strawberries and citruses (but couldn't tell you what citruses were used). It's a nice sweet scent, does kind of run synthetic (don't know if this is caused by the way the liquid is (since it needs to carry the glitter), but I'm hoping it'll come as fullsize next year!!!
Overall: (8/10) - I will say that I approve that we got 3 full-size scents this year (seems to grow by one each year!). Really happy to see Vampire Blood as full of course. The two new scents I'm split between. Midnight Spell was OK, but nothing I would remember or wanna come back to while Everlasting Magic was just really, really pretty. Though not gonna lie, really sad neither Wicked Vanilla Woods and Enchanted Candy Potion didn't return (well, the former came out in a few products like soap and a wallflower, but ECP was just missing in action this year. Honestly, next year, they should broaden and add more like Wicked Apple and some others. Still, I enjoyed this year's selection.

So funnily enough, Chasing Fireflies ended up being the main signature scent for ALL of Autumn :0. Yeah, I was surprised myself coming into this year-end review to find out that it was indeed the lone signature scent through Fall 1 & 2.
Packaging: Since it did come out in that weird SummeAutumn transitioning period, the packaging does kind of make me think that it's a green version of Poppy XD. That said, I do like the floral aspects and the ombre/foggy green to white on the wrap-around. Just one thing...what does this have to do with fireflies? I would've expected a nighttime background with little yellow lights adorning the bottle not....this? Well...I guess if you look closely you can see "yellow dots" but they're kind of unnoticeable because of the yellow flowers >.>
The Scent:
  • Chasing Fireflies (Golden Pear, Jasmine Blooms, Illuminated Woods) - Coming back to this scent, I still feel like it's pretty much Fairytale but less sweet. It's hard to explain, but it's kind of woodsy and I get a little bit of a vapo-rub/bug spray kind of vibe out of it. Yeah, I never was truly into this one sadly and MUCH preferred the magicalness of Fairytale way more for the season (which is ironic, but I'll talk about that later on). I don't know, but I feel like the pear note is the background to the woods and florals of the scent.
Overall: (6/10) - Yeah, Chasing Fireflies was a miss for me this year especially having a similar scent profile to Fairytale of all things which was one of my favorites when it came out in 2021. Yeah, I know there's a lot of people that enjoy this one and good on them for sure, for me though, this was a little too medicinal/woodsy for me.

https://preview.redd.it/barazkb62k7c1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=3d9bdd615a86cd8d8d77b8c8fc67526fb4ee3c57
I think Fall 1 is pretty much the traditions that are thrown out first and it seemed this was pretty much it for Fall 1 (outside of Chasing Fireflies), Halloween came out real early this year it felt like so it kind of was outside the zone. 5 scents returned (Champagne Apple & Honey, Pumpkin Pecan Waffles, Sweater Weather, Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte, and Ivory Cashmere). Though we did get a new scent in Together Weather and then a week later, Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin was released in the set, but ONLY as an online exclusive.
Packaging: Looking at Together Weather, all the scents were in similar bottles styles that weren't quite faceted nor beveled and all had gold wrap-arounds and similar icon above the text (a theme I had started to notice at this point in the year). Little basic for being Fall 1's main set, but eh.
The Scents:

  • Champagne Apple & Honey (Pink Lady Apple, Sparkling Champagne, Jasmine Honey, Autumn Woods) - Yeah, I also should preface that most of these scents have been popping back up every so often, most noticeably the last few years so I feel like I don't have much to say about most of them. CA&H is pretty much your sweet apple scent of the season. I really enjoy this scent a lot though and the scent is probably my favorite that involves champagne in the scent so that says something. I just find it a permanent selection for the season!
  • Pumpkin Pecan Waffles (Maple Syrup, Golden Waffles, Pumpkin Spice, Brown Sugar) - The ultimate gourmand for the season, Pumpkin Pecan Waffles is still such a powerful scent and just smells like breakfast in a bottle! I really love the hefty maple/brown sugar element and I definitely get a slightly crispy waffle vibe as well. I loveeeee this scent and it the version I have (from '21) smells like its getting bolder and punchier. Very powerful scent!
  • Sweater Weather (Sun-Crisped Apple, Autumn Leaves, Orchard Woods) - I feel like I get more neutral the more I take in Sweater Weather and seeing it this year, I was a little eh with it. Don't get me wrong, but I think I wasn't in the mood for the more cologne-esque scents this year? I do like the apple in the front, but it's the leaves/woods notes that mold the scent into a more masculine feeling of a scent. I just want this one to take a break for a year (keep on being a candle).
  • Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte (Pumpkin Latte, Toasted Marshmallows, Creamy Sandalwood, Praline Musk) - I mean this scent has been back and forth in the last few years with people saying it was weaker or it smells off. Luckily, it seems this year that many enjoy this version this year. I've always thought little of this one because it's not as bold as Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin. It's a lot more sweeter because of the marshmallow notes. Though I get a pumpkin spice (which could be the latte), but I don't know if I get either of the woody note or the musk, but I mean it could be well-hidden amongst the scent.
  • Together Weather (Blushing Breeze, Sugared Cardamom, Soft Cedar) - As the lone new scent for the set, Together Weather (ignoring the name being incredibly close to Sweater Weather), is kind of weird scent to me? I mean it shares the sweetness that Champagne Apple & Honey and Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte pull, but it's kind of a unique one as I'm not sure what I'm totally getting out of the scent. It's like a little sugary, kind of gives me a cardamom-esque licorice-y...twizzler-y note? Though the cedar is the lower layer and definitely gives the scent a full platform to build upon. It's different and maybe with time I'll learn to love it more, right now though...it's an unknown contender for me.
  • Ivory Cashmere (Fresh Lakeside Air, Silver Musk, White Amber) - Ever since its debut in '21, Ivory Cashmere has kind of been the lower end of the spectrum for me as I'm not the biggest of these sterile, clean scents and Ivory Cashmere really doesn't give me a warm feelings (you'd think it would with cashmere in the name). Instead, it reminds me of the smell of marble. I also think the lakeside air note, is kind of salty-ish though it could be the musk as well (though Silver?, how does one musk silver?) It's better, but still not the best scent for me.
  • Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin (Heirloom Pumpkin, Autumn Cinnamon, Ginger Snap, Whipped Vanilla) - I found it strange to see SCP being an online exclusive (especially because it's such a mainstay to the Autumn releases). The scent itself? Like Pumpkin Pecan Waffles, it's a VERY powerful scent and it's unfortunate because it's a REALLY strong cinnamon scent that smells like a Michael's or Hobby Lobby (like cinnamon-heavy potpourri). It's always been a little too much for me, but I think I could see it as a wallflower or soap more than body care, but considering this comes back almost every year...it won't change anytime soon.
Overall: (7/10) - For being BBW's biggest set of the year (sad, huh), this one is kind of in the same fashion how I felt about the main set last year too where most of the scents were returning fragrances which is pretty bum. At least this year's included ONE new scent in Together Weather. Though not sure how I felt about SCP being online exclusive still. I guess it's OK, but I think Fall 1 needs to be shaken up a little bit to give space for new ideas and scents to be honest!

It seemed that Fall 2 was filled, but I don't know why they didn't toss out a Fall 3 (unless Luminous was supposed to be that?). Either way we did have a few sets come out (one was a Faceted collection, so that won't be here) but we have this set which was an interesting set? Good to see half old and half new with Sunrise Woods and Sweet Whiskey returning while Copper Fields and Moonlit Martini being the new scents!
Packaging: Looking at Copper Fields and Moonlit Martini, the colors are VERY autumnal for sure (Sweet Whiskey is a dark brown and Sunrise Woods is a darker red). Yeah, that makes Moonlit Martini and it's cobalt blue coloring kind of the oddball of the three, but I can say I enjoyed the floral look and the bolder colors to make the scents pop out at me.
The Scents:
  • Copper Fields (Harvest Sun, Fresh Wildflowers, Bronzed Woods) - Getting into our first scent in the set, Copper Fields is pretty much THE floral scent of the bunch for Autumn as it's pretty much flowers all day, everyday. I also get some woodyness in the scent which is nice. Though, I can't still help but feel like it does smell like something I own too! This one is a little bit of in the middle for me, but I could enjoy this. I sense this could be more of a scent I could see returning...though it's still no Honey Wildflower.
  • Moonlit Martini (Vibrant Fruit, Sparkling Gin, Midnight Musk) - Moonlit Martini was also kind of another surprise for Autumn and I would consider it just as good. I wasn't sure of what this one was going to be initially because of once again, somewhat vague scent notes involved but Moonlit Martini is quite nice to me. The scent for whatever reason reads aquatic(?) to me, but it could be the sparkling gin that's coming off that way. I'm a bit more frustrated about the "vibrant fruit" and can't really decipher what fruit is in it. Maybe cherry, pineapple(?) maybe starfruit? Kind of beyond me to be honest lol.
  • Sweet Whiskey (Golden Amber, Vanilla-Infused Whiskey, Sweet Red Berries) - Then we get into the returning scents with Sweet Whiskey coming first. After coming off Moonlit Martini, Sweet Whiskey is also the kind of "boozy" scent for Autumn. I still don't know what it is about the scent, but I mostly get the whiskey and vanilla here and the amber to make it more perfume-y. Now the version I have has apple blossom in it versus the red berries, so I only wonder how different the two are from one another, but I assume the apple is more sweet versus what possibly could be a more tart version released this year.
  • Sunrise Woods (Creamy Sandalwood, Sweet Berries, Cozy Cashmere) - I've seem to go back and forth on Sunrise Woods too because this is one of the scents that DEFINITELY smells different from the cap to skin. In the cap, I kind of get nowhere with the scent because I'm unsure what it is specifically I'm getting, but once it hits my skin, Sunrise Woods opens up a lot with the berry and cashmere note and it just smells warm and comfy. I wanted to say it reminded me of Copper Fields, but there I get more of a summery vibe from it (probably from the bronzed woods in it). Here, it's just sweet and comfy. Not sure if I get too much of the sandalwood (or a creaminess), but it's still a pretty interesting scent and yeah versus last year, it's also a scent that makes go warm and cold towards it depending on the day and mood.

Overall: (7/10) - I actually did kind of enjoy this set now that I've returned to this one. I think I had a good day which helped Sunrise Woods out for me, but Sweet Whiskey is always a nice one for me and Moonlit Martini was surprisingly great! Copper Fields is probably the only OK one as it has a somewhat familiar summer vibe going on that Copper Coconut Sands was producing and I felt like it might be a summer scent moreso a fall one...but otherwise, yeah, I liked this release!

The last set released out of Fall 2 was a duo set but both were about vanilla with two new scents in Cozy Vanilla Bourbon and Fresh Vanilla Blossoms.
Packaging: To me, I think this collection's look is a bit too plain and forgettable for me? I don't think you could REALLY tell from the picture for the coloring is slightly different from one another, Fresh Vanilla Blossoms has a bit more of a mauve/pinkish look versus Cozy Vanilla Bourbon's more tannish coloring. Yeah, not that exciting of a look!
The Scents:
  • Fresh Vanilla Blossoms (Sueded Petals, Soft Sandalwood, Vanilla Bean) - I thought I would like this the least, but it ended up with me loving this scent! It's definitely a floral scent, but the vanilla bean adds a really nice sweetness to it. I do eventually get a slight woody note, but because the sweetness is mostly what I'm getting it just smells good overall. Problem though, is that it's hella light of a scent and it kind of goes away after a short while. Still I really enjoyed this!
  • Cozy Vanilla Bourbon (Warm Bourbon, Dark Fruit, Vanilla Liqueur) - This other new scent, Cozy Vanilla Bourbon is kind of familiar to me. Which is kind of hilarious because it reminds me exactly of Fireside Flurries, though the latter has an evident lavender note where this lacks it. Though there's some more fluff as well in the latter. That being said, CVB is kind of just of just a warm, boozy scent. I can't exact what kind of dark fruit is involved (just like Moonlit Martini with its vague fruit note).
Overall: (7/10) - I feel like this set could've used a few more scents in here (Whipped Vanilla Chiffon, Vanilla Rainbow Sprinkles, Wrapped in Vanilla, or even Whipped Almond Vanilla) because I think just having these two only felt like it was really lacking especially since it was showcasing vanilla as a main note. The two we did get are ok, Fresh Vanilla Blossoms is the winner while Cozy Vanilla Bourbon smelled a bit too familiar for me to fully enjoy.

Well that's Autumn for everyone, next time the last poooost!!!

What perfume should I ask for this Christmas based on my collection? (Please note allergies mentioned)
My mom wants to gift me a perfume. I cant think of any off the top of my head but I always love a new fragrance! Here's my current collection. I'm kind of a basic girlie and don't care ;) BUT I am allergic to anything "fresh," most florals or really "woody".....so basically I'm left with gourmands and some powdery florals.
I'd love to try something in the same vein as Gucci Bloom Intense, I love how luxurious it smells.
By the Fireplace - Replica Beach Walk Replica Blackberry & Bay - Jo Malone Blackberry & Lily - 7 Virtues Coffee Break - Repilca Classic Ultimate - Clean Fresh Cream - Philosophy Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere - Philosophy Good Girl - Carolina Herrera Bloom Intense - Gucci Madacascar Vanilla - Nest Milk Bold - Commodity On a Date - Replica Pink Canyon - Skylar (tbh do not like this, was a sephora GWP) Tonka - Solinotes (also do not like very much) Turkish Rose - Nest Wild Poppy - Nest (tbh pretty allergic, was another GWP) You - Glossier

2023.12.16 12:09 Morticiankitten Some Long, Rambling Impressions (and Ranking) of 15 Cocoapink Fragrances that No-One Talks About

When I first found my way onto this subreddit hunting for more information about indie perfumes, I immediately began to hear about Cocoapink. However, upon looking at reviews of their popular fragrances, I have to say I somewhat dismissed them as a brand. All of their most popular scents seemed very gourmand, very sweet and simple, and very not me. It wasn’t until I saw their 2022 autumn release, Mystic Mushrooms, that my interest was finally piqued and I wandered over to their website to check them out. In their autumn and winter seasonal catalogue, I was shocked to find a wealth of fragrances that sounded complex, atmospheric, and unique, and which I had seen almost no-one discussing. So anyway I managed to narrow an order (with difficulty) down to 15 samples that I will be reviewing today.
Firstly, I will briefly discuss my ordering experience. As an international customer, I got my order shipped through Ajevie so I can’t entirely comment on the entire turn-around process, but I will say that it took nearly a month for my order to ship. It did ship within the stated TAT, and when I received my package it was well-presented in surprisingly enormous sample bottles. I also got a free 1ml sample vial which I will not be reviewing because I threw it into a friend’s Christmas present without sniffing it.
Secondly, I will quickly touch on my preferences. As you probably already gathered, I’m not a fan of pure gourmands or other overly sweet scents. I also tend to dislike ozonic or aldehydic fragrances, perfumes that smell too clean or which remind me of laundry, shampoo, body wash, or cleaning products. I almost always dislike citrus notes, and I’m picky with green notes and florals. I enjoy fragrances that lean warm and dark, with a balance of sweet and non-sweet notes. I love spices, fruits, especially stone fruits and berries, animalic notes like musk, suede and ambergris, smoke, resinous notes, woody notes, and earthy notes.
I will be providing a literal description of what each perfume smells like, as well as a more fantastical description of the scene that the fragrance makes me imagine when I smell it. I will also give it a star rating for my own personal enjoyment. In my rating system, 1 means I strongly disliked the scent and can find few to no redeeming qualities, 2 means I didn’t like it, but I can recognise that others might, 3 means that the perfume was fine but either seemed unoriginal, boring, or just not my style, 4 indicates that I enjoy the fragrance but it’s just not quite perfect enough or unique enough for me to upsize, and 5 means that I really love it, and that a larger bottle is probably going to be joining my collection in the near future.
Ok, with that extensive preamble out of the way, onto the reviews!
Twisted Deceiver: Enticing and entrancing - notes of chocolate & vanilla ice-cream and sugary churros lure the senses; then frankincense, lofty woodsmoke and musk hypnotize. - The fragrance: I was expecting a warm, sweet gourmand with a smoky, resinous base, but that wasn’t what I got. This fragrance opens with a strong, oily note like a slightly stale deep fryer swirled with a dense, meaty smoke that reminds me of a hot barbecue. Behind the grease and smoke, I get a touch of lightly chocolate. As the perfume dries and settles on the skin, the oily notes and smoke gradually settle more into the background and the chocolate note comes forward more prominently, alongside a fuzzy, animalic muskiness. The smokiness eventually fades almost entirely away but greasy aroma never quite leaves the background of this scent. In the end, the scent is a vanilla tinged musky chocolate with an undertone of rancid coconut oil. - The fantasy: You are standing over the hot oil in the back of a Tex-Mex fast-food restaurant, listlessly turning over the churros. The oil has been in the vat for too long and its subtly rancid odour mingles unpleasantly with the smoke and cooking meat scents of the kitchen. You dollop some chocolate sauce into a ramekin and sigh, knowing you still have two hours of this shift before you can go home and try to wash some of the grease out of your hair and off your skin. - Rating: The notes breakdown was a twisted deception. 1/5.
Corvo: A raven whose feathers reflect gold firelight: A warm, deep, and mysterious fragrance, with the lightest veil of magical smoke. Pink peppercorns, Orange Flower, Chestnuts, Peru Balsam EO, Guaiacwood EO, Vanilla Bean, Cashmeran & Cade Oil. - The fragrance: I get a strong hit of orange blossom and vanilla sweetness when this first goes onto my skin, followed quickly by a billowing aroma of dark, woody smoke from the cade oil and guaiacwood. In the opening, the fragrance is dense, thick, and heavy with both the sweet and smoky notes. It gets softer and sweeter as it dries and settles on the skin. The smoke fades back and I can detect more of the vanilla bean and cashmere, with perhaps also a balsamic, resinous touch from the Peru balsam. The scent gradually continues to become softer and sweeter into the deep dry-down until all of the smokiness fades away, leaving just a thick, cloyingly sweet custard vanilla and a touch of snuggly cashmere behind. - The fantasy: After a long night outside, singing songs and roasting marshmallows by the campfire, you finally come back inside and begin to peel off your smoke scented clothes. The intense scent of the campfire fills the room as you drop them into the laundry hamper, and you can still detect whiffs on your skin as you prepare to sleep. You decide to give yourself a little extra comfort before bed, so you curl up under a fluffy cashmere blanket with a cup of warm milk, gently lulling yourself toward slumber. - Rating: I don’t understand why the raven is on fire or covered in custard. 1.5/5.
You’ll Never Grow Old: A vintage amusement park on a summer night boardwalk where the coolest vampires hang out. The irresistible mingling of cotton candy, waffle cones, caramel popcorn, and candy apple is stalked by the tang of an oncoming storm, sea salt, freshly-dug dirt, and a primal, seductive musk. - The fragrance: On skin, I get a strong, buttery caramel popcorn, layered with a haze of saltiness and a thick, sweaty animalic musk. Hidden in th3 background is a rainy petrichor note as well. The musk gradually builds in strength, smelling dirty, dark and overpowering. It smells very much like BO clinging to clothes on a hot summer day. The salty quality also continues to strengthen through the mid of the wear, contrasting against the thick, caramelised sweetness of the scent. The fragrance eventually softens into a slightly animalic, gourmand musk in the tail end of the wear. - The fantasy: You are walking through a boardwalk fair, with the leather clad arm of a teenage crush around your shoulders. The fair is lively and colourful and you can smell the caramel popcorn and fairy floss being sold by the vendors. The heat of the day is stifling and you feel crowded in by the sweaty bodies in the carnival around you. The waves crash under the boardwalk and out in the distance, over the ocean, you can see the darkening clouds of an approaching storm. - Rating: Cool vampires don’t smell this hot and sweaty. 2/5
Death’s Head Moth: Amber-winged herald of strange fortunes for those chosen by Fairies. Golden pear, peach, dark honey, dried flowers, amber, black chocolate. - The fragrance: There was a moment in the opening where I got a blast of cheap chocolate scent alongside the same, unpleasant deep-fried fragrance that I smelled in Twisted Deceiver. Thankfully, the chocolate quickly fades and the oily note went with it (maybe Cocoapink’s chocolate note doesn’t vibe with my skin chemistry). After the chocolate dissipates, I am left with hypersweet honeyed and syrupy pear. Florals emerge more clearly as the fragrance dries down and the extreme sweetness subsides a little. The scent has a slightly dried or decayed feeling, as though the flowers are beginning to lose their petals and the pear is growing soft. The impression of decay fades mostly away by the deep dry-down, and the fragrance smells mostly honeyed and slightly musky, with only touches of the dried, powdery florals remaining. - The fantasy: It’s been nearly three weeks since the wake and you are finally cleaning up the table of flowers and condolence gifts left behind after the funeral. The flowers have sat out for weeks and their petals are beginning to fall, giving the table a sweet, soft scent of rot. Leftover gifts of fruit and sweets also show early signs of decay as you get the energy together to finally clear the table of its reminders of death. - Rating: This deaths head moth may just be dead and rotting. 2.5/5.
Can’t Rain All the Time: Because sometimes a crow can bring a spirit back, for revenge, for love. A disturbed cemetery at night, city rain, a veil of smoke, salt tears. All embraced by vanilla, benzoin, and a berry-sweet kiss. - The fragrance: There is a deep, wood-tinged earthiness that emerges on skin, along with a bold smokiness. Buried under all of the smoke and soil, a sweet, vanillic undertone softly emerges alongside a subtle, rainy petrichor. The sweetness comes forward more on the dry-down, with syrupy, artificial berry notes peeking through as well. The sweetness blends into the smokiness and dark soil and, over the course of the wear, slowly shifts the balance away from the heavy, Smokey, savoury notes. By the deep dry-down, the berry-vanilla sweetness is the strongest remaining scent, outcompeting the fading touches of woodiness and damp soil. - The fantasy: You are standing in the middle of a forest ravaged by fire as the rain finally pours down to put the fire out. The rain soaks into the ash-covered soil, leaving the cool damp petrichor aroma behind. Amid the rain and scorched earth, you get an incongruous whiff of your own cheap, Victoria’s Secret body spray, a pop of sweetness in the barren landscape. - Rating: Forest fires don’t belong in the city. 2.5/5.
Glowing Eyes: Black and red musks slashed with bourbon vanilla, aged leather, dried Moroccan spices and ancient woods sweetened with honey infused pomegranate cider. - The fragrance: Glowing Eyes opens surprisingly light and sweet i with a clear pomegranate note, touches of red musk, and a lightly-spiced, amber undertone. The spice smells cinnamon-like on skin - sweet and warm with just a little kick, and they strengthen as the fragrance dries down. Meanwhile, the fruits become less bright and distinct, settling into a musky blend of sweetness that provides a counterpoint for the spicy notes. The fragrance softens back into a lightly spiced fruity musk with warm, ambery undertones. There is a touch of woody incense blended into the mix as well, adding aromatic smokiness and a little depth. - The fantasy: It’s Christmas Eve and you are excitedly preparing for the festivities. You dance around the kitchen to Christmas carols, bake fruit mince pies and plum pudding, mull wine on the stove, and you light up the Christmas themed candles to scent your home with fruits and warm spices as you prepare. - Rating: The mysterious glowing eyes just belonged to a kitten in reindeer antlers. 3/5.
Dark Changeling: Oh beautiful monsterling, to which world do you belong? Sugary dark cherries surrounded by night forests, incense, dragon's blood, and wolf's musk. - The fragrance: Dark Changeling opens with a soft, powdery cherry with a delicate incensey undertone. It is sweet and airy, with a little bit of underlying woodiness and spice. The incensey notes emerge more prominently as the fragrance dries and settles on the skin. The cherry blends into the woody, slightly floral and aromatic notes, as though it is part of the scenting of the incense stick rather than its own note. The fragrance gradually settles into a warm, spicy, cherry-scented incense with a little warm, furry musk that gives the fragrance an animalic purr through the finish. - The fantasy: After a hard day of criticism, you go to visit the local witch to ask for a spell to make you beautiful. A waft of cherry pie and incense smoke emerges as a mysterious woman with kind, catlike eyes opens the door. You stammer out your request, and she takes your hand and leads you into her dark house. Inside, she whispers to you all of the secrets about beauty - that it is inside you all the time and you just need to know how to bring it out. Eventually, you stumble out, dazed, but feeling oddly light. - Rating: the cherry in this was an incense changeling all along. 3/5.
Cat Dapperling: Rich vanilla caramel curls playfully around woody amber, pale patchouli, sandalwood and golden Egyptian musk, with a wild heart of vetiver and animalic musk. - The fragrance: I get a sweet, resinous and aromatic tang to the fragrance in the opening, with slight caramelised woody undertones. It also has a slightly sour tang that I think might be the sandalwood acting up on my skin. The fragrance leans more into the warm, caramelised touches as it dries down. I get a touch of warm, almost furry muskiness developing as well. The perfume remains fairly stable through the middle of the wear, as a warm, sweet woody scent with aromatic and musky touches. - The fantasy: It’s the height of summer and you finally decide to take a walk down to the local Ye Olde Ice Cream Shoppe. The little wooden shop is warm and the wood releases all of its odours of wood polish, resin, and spilled caramel and vanilla as you approach the scarred old counter. You look through the counter window at the towering piles of rich gelato, indecisive about which delicious flavour to choose. The woman behind the counter smiles encouragingly, holding the waffle cone in gloved hands while you make your choice. - Rating: I just prefer my ice cream shop to not come with pickles. 3/5.
Antici...pation: Give yourself over to absolute pleasure: a Rocky Horror homage. Innocent blackberry, dewy rosemary, and freshly-plucked lavender are cloaked with incense, tobacco, and rich amber; embraced in warm black leather, and debauched by wild red & black musks and a kiss of hot clove. - The fragrance: Woody rosemary is the first note to come out on skin, followed by an undertone of leather alongside some dark, earthy and slightly animalic muskiness. A touch of indistinct sweetness just barely peeks out from the savoury notes. The leathery notes strengthen as the fragrance dries down. I get a slight smokiness emerging as well, and a blackberry tang appears, more tart than sweet. Eventually the leather fades into the background along with the aromatics, leaving the black musk and some musky fruity notes as the main scent left on skin. - The fantasy: You hide out in the garage, trying on your grandfather’s old motorcycle gear that you found after his passing. The leather scent is still strong as you slip the jacket around your shoulders. On the edges of the collar, you can detect the fresh, herbal aroma of his aftershave, as well as the warm, slightly smoky scent of his hand-rolled cigarettes. The jacket is much too large for you, but you wrap it around you tightly, holding onto the memories like a hug. - Rating: This scent belongs to Brad, not Frank-N-Furter 3.5/5.
Snakeskin Grisette: Sinuous notes of succulent cactus, matcha tea, and ginger Co2 glide over amber, incense and dirt, with the gentlest hiss of fine leather and dark fruits. - The fragrance: The scent of Snakeskin Grisette is fresh and crisp, while being simultaneously warm and lightly spicy. I get a blast of watery, fresh green cactus that smells very aloe-like in the opening, with a cool glass of chilled, unsweetened green tea on the side. Almost immediately, a fresh, spicy aroma emerges to temper the watery green notes. Underneath, I can detect touches of freshly turned earth and warm ambery notes alongside freshly grated ginger and perhaps a touch of powdery matcha. The fragrance develops more powdery quality as it dries down, and the fresh, juicy qualities of the ginger and greenery fade away leaving only the ginger spice lightly present as a memory of the opening. The amber and earthy notes remain present, while the overarching impression of the scent is a tart, ambery scent with powdery undertones. - The fantasy: You sit by the edge of a pool of water in a lush oasis in the middle of the desert, sipping a cold aloe drink and watching the caravans come in. You watch the camels arrive, loaded up with precious amber, fresh spices, and dried fruits. They sweep in with wafts of hot, desert heat, but it is cool and fresh here in the shade by the pool. - Rating: I found myself charmed by this snake. 3.5/5.
Destroying Angel: Luminously dangerous in the dark: Delicate jasmine and chrysanthemums glow against shadowy peppercorn, black musk, and smoke. - The fragrance: I get a sweet jasmine floral combined with an almost camphorous, menthol-like freshness on the first sniff of this fragrance. Behind the fresh notes are touches of woody smoke and crackles of spicy pepper. As the fragrance dries down, black musk emerges, growling alongside the jasmine floral and camphorous, spicy chrysanthemum. As the fragrance dries and settles, it gradually starts to lose the chrysanthemum and smoke. The remaining jasmine smells sweeter and the black musk emerges more fully and adds a deep, slightly earthy animalic sweetness still brightened by hints of florals and camphor that add texture and lightness. - The fantasy: You work hard every day under the unforgiving eye of your ballet instruction: a strict and unsmiling retired Russian prima ballerina. Rarely are you able to do enough to please her. However, when you see her after your performance in the leading role of tonight’s show, she takes you by the shoulders and then pulls you into a surprising hug that just barely unstiffens her perfect posture. You breathe in the scent of her perfume and the delight of her unexpected approval. ‘Well done’ she tells you. - Rating: This angel destroyed my understanding of my preferences. 4/5.
Fauno Oscuro: The faun will guide you through the forest to the labyrinth… A midnight forest of moss-covered trees, cedar, copaiba balsam, and oakmoss; a warm earthy breath of fig and osmanthus; the tang of kaffir lime and red apple; black soil underfoot; and the ghost of rich, animalic musk. - The fragrance: Green, fresh forest notes, bright and a little zesty and citric, are the first thing that greet me when I smell this scent. The green notes smell like crushed leaves, with some crisp freshness, like a green apple mingled in there as well. I get a little clean earth underneath the freshness as well. As the scent dries down, the zesty freshness softens into smoother greenery and a bit of earthiness that smells almost like coffee emerges as well. The scent has a touch of deep muskiness, off in the background of the fragrance that adds to the forest atmosphere. The musk strengthens and develops across the wear, enhanced by a note of milky sweet fig. To my nose the combination has a similar quality to an animalic labdanum note - warm and sweet but a little dirty. Eventually, the greenery fades into a more background aroma leaving musk and mossy, woody touches behind. The scent is a little fruitier by this point as well, with earthy undertones balancing out the musk and sweetness. - The fantasy: You walk along a forest trail through an unknown part of the woods. As you walk, the light shifts slightly, and the world around you seems different. Brighter. Stranger. You can see glistening fruits hanging high in trees that you thought unable to bear them. The moss grows dense and pillowy underfoot. You suddenly get a faint waft of warm animal musk on the breeze and, as you look around for the source, you spot a pure white deer, barely visible up the trail. Its pale coat gleams in the dappled forest light. - Rating: I very much enjoyed this trip through the forest labyrinth. 4.5/5.
Homicidal Girlfriend: A sexy, feminine scent with a badass twist for our contract killer girlfriend: The sweetness of vanilla pancakes & boo-berry blueberries; the piquance of black leather and musk; a whisper of woods and spicy florals; and through it all the threat of gunpowder. - The fragrance: Once this perfume touches skin, dark, savoury notes of leather light hints of mineralic gunsmoke emerge alongside berries and vanilla. The scent is warm and deep, balanced between the sweet and savoury notes. As the fragrance dries down it settles into warm blueberry, vanilla and leather with a touch of warm spicy florals. The smoky gunpowder note doesn’t last long, unfortunately, fading away out of the opening. The warm spicy florals continue to develop through the mid of the wear while the berry notes fade away, leaving behind sweet vanilla cupcake, touched with suede and delicate muskiness. - The fantasy: You’ve barely been here for 10 minutes, but you have already spilled a fluffy berry parfait all over your leather jacket after being bumped by a cute girl in pastels in Harajuku, Tokyo. You look around at the colourful sea of humanity around you, cursing quietly to yourself as you try to wipe up the spill of delicate soft-serve and fruit syrup from your clothing. Adorable, bubbly J-pop pours from one of the storefronts nearby as you clean up the mess. You slip your hand into your pocket, feeling the smooth handle of your pistol under your fingers. You can’t lose focus. - Rating: This homicidal girlfriend cut out my heart and I love her for it. 4.5/5.
Beyond the Goblin City: For when you want to put on a big poofy dress, fight through dangers untold, and tell someone they have no power over you. A glittering fantasy of dreamy linden blossom, smoky narcissus, fresh peach, cardamom, twining ivy, living stone, and old story books; all magically bound with olibanum, sweet woody amber, and a whirl of crystalline and goblin musks. - The fragrance: The perfume opens with petrichor, as well as a sweet but dirty fruity floral aroma, with an animalic, musky skankiness underneath that smells a bit like dirty sheep wool and straw. A bit of fresh linden and warm peach add a fresh, flirty top to the scent, and I get a bit of leafy greenery as well. The dirty, animalic notes settle into a more subtle but sensual undertone as the scent dries down. The greenery becomes more prominent, as does the peach note. Alongside the woodiness and animalic notes, more earthiness and petrichor emerges, contributing to the deep, dirty base. Over time, the scent leans into the fresher notes, eventually shifting from a dirty, earthy undertone to a more ambery one. By the deep dry-down, the fragrance smells more like a peachy, labdanum-forward amber than anything else. A powdery quality emerges and the earthy, dirty notes fade almost entirely away. - The fantasy: You are in the middle of a fairy ring at midnight, whirling and twirling around to the sound of sweet, strange music. You feel drunk on dancing, both exhausted and exuberant as you twirl around with your various fae partners. You are passed sweet treats and sips of dewy nectar as you dance, and as the night progresses you begin to wonder if the fae ever tire, or if you will all keep on dancing until you collapse, utterly exhausted. - Rating: This trip to the goblin city was quite enchanting. 5/5.
Inkcap: Purple fig, black tea, inky iris, dark oud and darker earth; chypre accord, cedar and vanilla absolute. - The fragrance: On skin, sweet, lactonic slightly green fig jumps forward quickly followed by warm, slightly damp earthiness and deep cedar wood. The fig gradually sweetens with subtle notes of vanilla and smells less green. Meanwhile, the warm, tannic woodiness of tea emerges alongside the cedar to support the fig, balancing out its fresher qualities. The damp soil note becomes less pronounced across the wear and the profile leans more into the drier woody notes instead. The fig continues to sweeten and the vanilla becomes more pronounced. It isn’t until the deep dry-down that a warm, slightly nutty, powdery orris note emerges, mingling with the fig scent and light touches of woodiness remaining, leaving the scent musky, warm, and sweet. - The fantasy: It is only just past dawn and you are out for a walk, wandering through the misty, rainy morning under a canopy of fig trees. The light, filtering through the foggy morning, is a pale lavender grey. You shake dewdrops from your hair and stop to admire them glistening like diamonds on a spider’s web. You breathe the damp, cool air in, savouring the moment of peace and quiet. - Rating: I would write love poems with this ink. 5/5.
Overall, I wouldn’t say that atmospheric and complex fragrances aren’t necessarily where Cocoapink shines as a brand, which isn’t that surprising considering they are a bath and body brand first. Still, they threw me a few great surprises in this order, and a couple of their more unusual scent profiles ended up as real hits for me. I enjoyed enough of my order that I would like to try more from them in the future, though my hit rate wasn’t high enough to get me to immediately rush back for more.

2023.12.07 17:02 SolarstarValke 2023 YEAR WRAP UP REVIEW! PART 2: Spring!

2023 YEAR WRAP UP REVIEW! PART 2: Spring!
Alright everyone, it's time to really get down to the nitty-gritty and talk about 2023's Spring Season. I will say that there's something there for everyone, maybe except the gourmand lovers, but I'll talk about that when we get there! Anyways, let's get started!
  • NOTE: As I've mentioned the last few years, I don't collect repeated scents, so expect a LOT of older packaging to show up, but if there's a case of the whole set not having the current look, I'll post a picture up of them so I can review the packaging!!!
ALSO, here's a link to the previous review(s)
Faceted - 2023 YEAR WRAP UP REVIEW! PART 1: Faceted! :
https://preview.redd.it/a3h6y7f9es4c1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=794c563cc9ed39fa5ab760f7f9c5926c8bf66c8b
Kicking the year off, we have our first Core scent (or signature scent) with Among the Clouds. Kind of an odd choice considering some of the other scents that came out for Spring 1, but this was a pretty interesting release.
Packaging: I will say that the packaging is pretty cute with the cloudy/pastel look it has and the gold banner on the lower half (and something I've noticed a lot this year is that many of the scents have a symbol above the name to signify the scent involved. Though, I LOVE the misty, glittery specks found around the clouds. Pretty neat I will say. Also, that pink atomizer is so cool~
The Scent:
  • Among the Clouds (Wild Berry Skies, Whipped Vanilla Clouds) - I had mentioned this when I reviewed it early in the year, but I still feel like I get worried that it would mostly be a dupe for Boardwalk Taffy/Cotton Candy Clouds/Whipped Berry Merengue. Luckily, Among the Clouds does make itself its own profile albeit still kind of touching those scents alongside Pinkberry Clouds as well. It's different that the berries (is it raspberry?) are a bit more profound in the scent while the vanilla is a bit in the background as well. If anything, it does remind me of a less gourmand Champagne Sprinkles
Overall: (7/10) - As the first of the Core scents released during the year, it was simply an OK scent. It's nothing too groundbreaking as a berries/vanilla scent, but it's not bad persay, just nothing that'll stick in the long run when there's been many others throughout the year.
https://preview.redd.it/h1trm5v7hs4c1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=e1330b1654ecb32d2a9eb12f3c89fe1c73076b91
The first set of the year was...it was something. Instead of having the "bake sale" set that usually came for Spring 1, this year, we kick it off with clean and fresh scents. Looking at the scents we had a split between old and new. Fresh Coconut & Cotton and Cloud Nine return from last year with new scents Indigo Dreams and Sun Blooms & Suede.
Packaging: Mmmmm, I feel like the set's packaging was kind of too simple for me. I did enjoy the light pastels coloring (though Fresh Coconut & Cotton's tan and Cloud Nine's white were a bit too boring for me). Once again, like with Among the Clouds, the rising sun is found on the bottom alongside a gold band. Could've been better TBH.
The Scents:
  • Indigo Dreams (Bergamot Water, Glowing Amber, Warm Musk) - The first of the new scents, Indigo Dreams had a VERY hard time making an impression on me back then because I couldn't really get anything out of the scent which is wholly disappointing to me. Nearly a year later, I do get some kind of scent (albeit such a light scent). I get a LIGHT citrus note (probably the bergamot) and the amber note is present too. Still, it's such a clean scent and incredibly light, so I still kind of find it disappointing especially since it doesn't last long either.
  • Fresh Coconut & Cotton (Coconut, Coastal Breeze, Beachside Cotton) - I also seem to slowly change my thoughts about Fresh Coconut & Cotton which debuted last year around the same time. Comparing to Indigo Dreams, this one is a bit more bold in its scent and it's got a strong coconut and cotton smell which may not be good for some. I really do like the beachy-vibes it gives versus to something like At the Beach of course. I like the creamyness of it as well surprisingly. Definitely hitting me a lot better than last year (though it's the same packaging, so I bet the maceration maybe helped it?
  • Cloud Nine (Lavender Breeze, Morning Dew Drops, Cozy Amber) - Of the 4 in this set, I think Cloud Nine is the sweetest smelling of them. I quite like the lavender in the scent despite me not being entirely into lavender on its own. Coming out of last year with all them lavender scents, this was actually the one I was hoping to see return so this was a win in my book!
  • Sun Blooms & Suede (White Raspberry, Pink Petals, Vanilla Cream) - The other new scent introduced in the collection, Sun Blooms & Suede is also on the lighter side of things which is kind of surprising considering the scent notes involved. I like the sugary sweet smell of the raspberry and the light floral notes (whatever Pink Petal it is from). Though I can't really smell the vanilla in the scent for some reason.
Overall (5/10) - It's probably the gourmand lover in me, but I was just not a fan of this collection as a whole. I'm not against clean scents, but there was just something lost in translation here for me. While I do like Cloud Nine and Fresh Coconut & Cotton has grown on me, Sun Blooms & Suede is eh (missing suede note?) and Indigo Dreams is a really hard scent to pinpoint on skin, so unfortunately it gets this low grade!
https://preview.redd.it/qf9m7k9ios4c1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=e904415369e8e14f6a4cecc9f101ee98be913ae7
The 2nd core scent to release this year, Coco Paradise marks the beginning of the tropical scents!
Packaging: I do love the palm tree as the backdrop of the scent with a bronzed wrap-around (which makes sense with the scent notes). Though for some reason the lettering and text style gives me VS vibes which is odd, but it has a classy look to it at the same time.
The Scent:
  • Coco Paradise (Salted Coconut Monoi, Sugared Neroli, Bronzed Sandalwood) - What a fun scent this one is! At first, some of the scent reminded me of Oahu Coconut Sunset minus the toasty vibes, but the more I smell this one, the more of a complex scent I get from here. I know monoi is kind of that sunscreen-like tone and neroli is a little bit of citrus while the sandalwood adds a little woody flair to the scent, but together, it smells like warm oceans and kind of a sensual mood. It's kind of just a nice summery scent!
Overall: (7/10) - I feel like this was a winner in my book. I liked the coconut vibes from this one and yeah, I still kind of think it's a little related to Oahu Coconut Sunset, but it's still got its own character and gives me a nice warm feel.
https://preview.redd.it/5bamwzelqs4c1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=02854168f337f22ab0f1f29ed6cfdb9831d33e51
Tropical traditions come next and they were handled...pretty strangely it feels like this year. While I've gotten used to Bahamas, Waikiki, and Fiji being together all the time, it seems that Fiji is sitting out (since it was the only one of the 3 to release under the Faceted for the season).
Packaging:
creds to Cutie3000!
Looking at this year's packaging, it looks pretty interesting and the light orange & green was nice and for some reason looks pretty mature considering these are tropical scents. Not sure if I was down for them, but they're OK.
The Scents:
  • Bahamas Passionfruit & Banana Flower (Passionfruit, Pineapple Leaves, Banana Flower) - Seems I'm kind of just repeating how I think of the scent, but there's not much to say about Bahamas that I haven't before lol. It's a really tart fruity and floral scent made of scent notes you don't normally see being combined together. I do love this and I get quite a bit of pineapple and passionfruit in the scent whereas the banana flower adds a small bit of floral. It smells great and it's no wonder why it's a Spring mainstay.
  • Waikiki Beach Coconut (Tropical White Coconut, Saltwater Breezes, Sun-Bleached Woods) - Same thing with Waikiki Beach Coconut, it's a well-known scent. Compared to Coco Paradise, this is much brighter of a scent with a mix of oceanic and woodsy notes. It's a nice scent for the season that's for sure.
Overall: (5/10) - Not saying these scents are great, but I kind of wonder why they did this to begin with. I feel like they were trying to push these scents by making them a smaller collection perhaps? Just seemed like it needed more to make it stand out (but I think they were also madly released in a BUNCH of products, so I can't argue too much?
https://preview.redd.it/e6dfdmnbus4c1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=34556c776fffb296f85ac75bbeb59ab35bbd3cc8
Then...why did they released another collection between Bahamas and Fiji?!? Yeah, this collection was mad bizarre because these two were released in gift sets (Bahamas being in full while Fiji was released in a mini). It's a little bizarre to see if you ask me.
Packaging:
https://preview.redd.it/xbdehm5wus4c1.png?width=720&format=png&auto=webp&s=97d122e8e85fee0ed3342e7f25a875381c1d3fad
creds to lifeinsidethepage
From what I can see when it comes to this collection, the packaging is fine? It's a bit less than more of the Spring 2 releases looked like (since these were gift set packagings), but they look okay, the vivid pink and orange suits the scents of course and the design is a little festive (Fiji looks a little Christmas-y?). Not bad, but not all that great?
The Scents:
  • Bahamas Passionfruit & Banana Flower (Passionfruit, Pineapple Leaves, Banana Flower) - I've already talked about it above, so no need to repeat the things I've already said.
  • Fiji Sunshine Guava-tini (Sun-Kissed Guava, Fresh Orange, Seaside Jasmine) - I've also talked about it during the Faceted post. Not much to say, it's still a very citrus-y scent with a lot of that being from the orange within the scent. It smells like kool-aid sometimes and the seaside jasmine is pretty present and yet doesn't get in the away of the other scents. Though I will say it's nice to see the scent get the full name unlike the shortened variant on the Faceted release.
Overall: (4/10) - What was the point of releasing this though? I find myself struggling to understand why these were (are) rarities because of their place as gift-set onlys. I didn't understand this and the Bahamas/Waikiki collections because...it just was messy.
https://preview.redd.it/p0rg2r3yzs4c1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=eb0a0f66e03743f3219d59198ca7638efe33a0cd
Spring 2 actually had a full set release with the Garden of Eden collection and it was pretty interesting. 2 of the scents are returning (Pink Pineapple Sunrise & Coconut Pineappe (which was an online exclusive). Then we had 3 new scents in Watermelon Mojito, Golden Mango Lagoon and Fresh Jungle Rain (online exclusive as well).
Packaging: Looking at the new scents, the bottle design is pretty cool, there's something about the near symmetrical style that looks interesting and the plants that end up harboring the fruits are an interesting choice as well. All 5 scents do share a dark green atomizer as well which made it easy to find the scents in my collection.
The Scents:
  • Pink Pineapple Sunrise (Sweet Pink Pineapple, Palm Sugar, Sun-Drenched Nectar) - As the leading scent of the Garden of Eden collection, PPS was such a popular scent last year that I wasn't surprised to see it (though I was surprised it was simultaneously released as a Faceted though). It's a sugary scent that strongly shows a pineapple vibe and I quite love the scent so seeing it again definitely put a smile on my face! Still one of the best!
  • Watermelon Mojito (Watermelon Soda, Pink Rum, Cane Sugar) - I'm surprised we got a NEW watermelon scent again this year and this one doesn't quite explain the scent very well. I do get the watermelon which surprisingly smells more green than most of the other watermelon-fronted scents out of BBW. I also do get the rum, but what makes a mojito is a mint element, that's just a little bit annoying to me (especially since there was a Watermelon & Wild Mint 3-wick that came out around the same time). Not the best and missed the point, but it is a watermelon scent so I can't bag too bad.
  • Golden Mango Lagoon (Sunny Mango, Saltwater Woods, Coral Blooms) - If Pink Pineapple Sunrise shows off how awesome a pineapple scent can be, Golden Mango Lagoon does the same for mangoes! It's a little different though with the woods/florals being thrown in, but they're definitely not the main star of the scent. It's a really potent scent for me so I quite like this one as well.
  • Coconut Pineapple (Shaved Coconut, Fresh Pineapple, Sugar Cane) - Little surprised to see Coconut Pineapple return as an online exclusive scent. Though, I suppose it makes sense especially since it's there to separate this and PPS as they both have pineapple as scent notes. Luckily, this one smells more like a Pina Colada so it kind of works for me. I still enjoy the scent a lot and even though Fresh Coconut Colada didn't return this year, this is a great one to have!
  • Fresh Jungle Rain (Rain-Kissed Palms, Amazon Dragonfruit, Misty Breeze) - I feel like this scent didn't get talked about a lot, especially since it too was an online exclusive scent. Then again, I wasn't sure what to say about this (and I still don't?). I do like the coldness of the scent, very watery and light and the dragonfruit adds a bit of sweetness to it all, but I also get a kind of cologne-esque drive and I'm unsure if that's the palms or the breeze that gives the effect. I like it, but also it doesn't quite stand out for me?
Overall: (9/10) - Honestly, out of Spring, this may be the best collection released! I think BBW scored pretty well with having more new versus old. Of course PPS and Coconut Pineapple are great already, but then Golden Mango Lagoon is just as good too. Watermelon Mojito is OK, but is lacking an ingredient that makes it a mojito and Fresh Jungle Rain is...fine, but could get lost.
https://preview.redd.it/e3x6nqie57sc1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=edc2d37ac83b59013e6847a5ea7971b06893142b
So....I had mentioned earlier how there was one scent I was not able to obtain for review and it's this one and its purely due to the fact this was only released in international waters (mostly Europe and Asia). Though it did release as a 3-wick and Wallflowers here, which doesn't quite help the situation IMO. Also kind of released at an odd time after Spring 2.
Packaging: It's pretty simple all things considered. I do see the red liquid (may stain) and it's luxurious looking red wrap-around with the two gold rings is kind of pleasing to the eyes, but yeah nothing else really stands out here.
The Scent:
  • Dark Velvet Oud (Raspberry Sugar, Velvety Rose, Rich Oud) - The scent itself to me isn't really all my type to be honest, I'm sure the ladies will enjoy this mostly because it's a sweeter rose scent, but that barnyard-y oud just kind of makes things strange for me. It does get tamed down after settling on the skin, but mmm, I just don't see myself as one that would be pulling this scent off anytime soon.
Overall: (5/10) Kind of disappointed that it is such a rare scent to find out there in the states, but I don't think it's quite worth it at the same time? Random release for a deep floral scent that's only found outside the US is a choice, but I can easily just skip over this one to be honest.
https://preview.redd.it/ze9gvhrqbt4c1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=10492f883919c92de24048e0550102bb224fd299
So strange to see a set start with one and then add two. Though this was the case this year with the Spring Gourmand set that kind of came in a weird time between Spring 2 & 3. Strawberry Pound Cake was strange because it released during Spring 1 as the scent used for Valentine's Day this year with the other two scents; Iced Lemon Pound Cake and Sweet Petal Pound Cake coming later on in the season.
Packaging: I quite liked the design of the 3, the dessert in question as the main thing to focus on and the red, yellow, and pink are really nice to look at as well.
The Scents:
  • Strawberry Pound Cake (Fresh Strawberries, Golden Shortbread, Whipped Cream) - Of course this scent would return but LUCKILY this (and Champagne Toast) have at least pulled back from pushing it in our faces. Like I said, this actually came out pretty early in the year and I was a bit disappointed that it was chosen to be the Valentine's scent this year. It's still a really sweet and gourmand scent and still smells pretty nice. Still, somewhat overrated, but I understand the excitement for it.
  • Iced Lemon Pound Cake (Sugary Glazed Icing, Pure Lemon Zest, Fluffy Pound Cake) - Was surprised to see this scent make it into body care (which was a 3-wick prior). Though I'm going to say, this is a wonderful scent, but it's quite short-lived though since it doesn't last long. I do love the lemon scent with the cakey background for sure. This definitely worked for me and is one of my favorites of the year.
  • Sweet Petal Pound Cake (Candied Rose, Raspberry Swirl, Frosted Bundt Cake) - As for the other one, many thought this was going to be Pink Petal Tea Cake, but unfortunately, it's not quite like that one. I do like the sweetness here, but it doesn't smell really all that cakey. Just smells like a sugary rose scent if you ask me. It's a very light sweetness (the raspberry is lost on me it feels like). I quite enjoyed myself, but not quite at the same level as Iced Lemon Pound Cake.
Overall: (7/10) - For having a rather small gourmand set, the Pound Cake collection is more or less good. I thought they all smelled decent and such, but this is a scent that could've been elevated with two more scents honestly.
https://preview.redd.it/uux5m97fgt4c1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=b7cdccd8574bd109ade8db80e1977ff3580f9c27
Spring 3 comes in with a surprise with the release of the Gingham set which included 3 new scents (or variants) Gingham Gorgeous, Gingham Fresh, and Gingam Vibrant. Then original Gingham was also updated to fit the faceted design. Gingham Love is only here because it was added to a set with the other 4 scents (but was not given the Faceted treatment).
Packaging: Well, I maybe should've added them to the Faceted review since the bottles are just that. Though I do like the wrap-around being a little more interesting with the fruits and adorning it. I couldn't care less on the bottle style, but at least the artworks were nice.
The Scents:
  • Gingham Vibrant (Wild Blackberries, Candied Violets, Soft Vanilla) - Just from looking at the scent, it was REALLY reminding me of Candied Violet Sorbet from 2 years ago and smelling Gingham Vibrant, its like they got it right this time. The blackberries are more profound and fruity and the vanilla is rounding the scent a bit more and then the violets are the backbone to the scent. Yeah! This scent is Candied Violet Sorbet that ended up being better.
  • Gingham Fresh (Juicy Pear, Sparkling Clementine, Fresh Daisies) - Then we have Gingham Fresh and this definitely lives up to the name with a very fresh-scented glow. Though since the release, I will say this one had grew less on me. I think it's the clementine and daisies that make me scrunch up my nose. This just wasn't that great of a scent and I'm happy without it.
  • Gingham Gorgeous (Pink Strawberries, Peach Nectar, Peony Blooms) - Likewise, Gingham Gorgeous takes on a strawberry note that mixes with the peonies and it's fine. I was more worried about the peach, but luckily it's kind of shoved to the back so its funkyness can be avoided. I don't think it's the strongest scent of the bunch, but I suppose it's more in the middle for me.
  • Gingham (Blue Freesia, White Peach, Fresh Clementine, Violet, Clean Musk) - So now it makes sense to see that the previous 3 scents had a connection to Gingham proper by taking a scent note to their own. Smelling this next to the others, I could REALLY smell the freesia and clementine togehter, but this was OK? I think after Gingham Vibrant, this kind of just doesn't quite reach up to my interests.
  • Gingham Love (Sugared Red Berries, Blushing Freesia, Rose Merengue) - So the oddball out of the 5 here, Gingham Love wasn't really updated to fit alongside the other 4 so it was unfortunate that it felt tacked on to the (gift set) release with all 5 of them together. Gingham Love is fine, the freesia is what connects it to the main scent and then there's just berries. I'm not sure where the rose merengue is as the tart berries are kind of front and center here. Not bad of a scent
Overall: (6/10) - I don't know how I feel about this set really. Like the standout to me is definitely Gingham Vibrant which smelled like a better made scent over an old one. Gingham is a classic as it should and Gingham Love while coming out last year and was kind of shunned in this set still smells good. Gingham Fresh though smells a bit off for me and Gingham Gorgeous is fine. Though the bigger question is...where is Gingham Heart of Gold? Like it belongs here right???
https://preview.redd.it/78nxvrfitt4c1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=7e7690314d58de2a269d363f83947bbe8c7bb0ee
Kind of oddly added in Spring 3, we got this Wave collection which included returning Saltwater Breeze and two new scents with Emerald Mist and Amethyst Waves.
Packaging: It does look pretty looking at them. A mix of a marbling effect plus the whole "wave" aesthetic kind of works especially with the colors of green, blue, and pink.
The Scents
  • Emerald Mist (Fresh Rainfall, Sunkissed Pear, Blonde Woods) - As the first of two new scents, Emerald Mist is kind of throwing me off but pear scents do kind of tend to do that. I get the watery vibes here and it smells quite nice, but I also tend to not remember this one very well even after I reviewed it the first time. I get the mostly the pear and rainfall notes, but the blonde woods is kind of hidden towards the back of the scent. Not bad, but also nothing spectacular.
  • Saltwater Breeze (Fresh Linen, Violet Leaves, Water Blossom, White Musk) - Of course the theming would be centered around this scent which returned once again. If it wasn't made for this set, I'd believe it would've been a fair choice to include in the clean scent collection back in Spring 1. It's definitely got a clean feel due to the mix of linen, musk, and florals for sure. It's an OK scent, once again, nothing I would die for exactly, but it is pleasant.
  • Amethyst Waves (Dream Berries, Wild Blooms, Soft Sandalwood) - Then we have this scent which I suppose is like the berry waves selection here. The scent notes are a little vague when it comes to this, but funny enough I get the florals and woody scent the most while the berries are just there to sweeten the deal. I like the smidge of warmth, but maintains the same watery vibes as the other two scents. Nice!
Overall: (6/10) - I think I'm still in the mindset that this set was a bit randomly released and didn't have much promotion backing it up. I think the 3 scents are OK, but nothing that I'll be fully coming back to unless I need to review them again, of course.
https://preview.redd.it/13s5is3e9w4c1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=7173a54c473e7dc17d7966135d7fa5d78dc3413c
Last, but not least for the season, we got the return of Happy Birthday which has returned for the 3rd year in a row, however the scent name changed over to Vanilla Buttercream.
Packaging: Compared to last year's packaging, this year's is a little boring to me? The silver wrap-around is kind of meh and then the dark pink to yellow lettering and white sparkles just doesn't quite get there in compared to the candles and colorful look of last year's.
The Scent:
  • Vanilla Buttercream (Tahitian Vanilla, Whipped Buttercream, Powdered Sugar) - As it's been the last few years as well, Vanilla Buttercream and the related Frosted Vanilla and Merry Cookie have been dupes for Christmas Cookies. Though this year, this seems to be the only one that made it through (Christmas Cookies didn't come out this year, nor Merry Cookie as body care). Basically, if you wanted that cookie scent, this was your only choice this year. I will say that I feel like the formulation was worked on this scent because it smells a bit more rich and deep? It's still a good scent though and the fact I liked this rendition says its getting better (but I still wish for some kind of differences between the 4).
Overall (6/10) - It is nice to see Happy Birthday return, this seems to be bigger news since the aforementioned Christmas originals have not returned this year. Vanilla Buttercream is good, probably better than before IMO. Though coming out for Spring 3 was an interesting choice!

Spring was an interesting season. Breaking some annual releases like the lack of a gourmand set into Spring 2.5 basically. A scent that no one in the U.S. (and some other countries) cannot obtain currently and how they dealt with some of the Tropical collection was a bit strange. Still, overall this was a lot to take in and that's not including some of the other scents that came out like Tutti Frutti Candy and Fresh Cut Lilacs. Overall....I'd give it a 7/10.
Well, that's that...all of Spring done, next up is Summer....see you then!!!!!

I have always loved the blackberry 9700Bold. If they designed it to compete with phones now a days but kept the original qwerty keyboard and size. I would switch in a heartbeat! It was a legendary phone.

Ghost - Soaring incandescent groove to old skool cow-funk culminating in full band screaming orgasm and a molten metal outro. [As a good dark groove gradually lightens and energizes, the jam takes an unexpected shift when Page hits the B-3, turning the expected peak into a dance party.]
Also Sprach Zarathustra - Alien intro that Mike destroys with a liquid nuclear bass second jam. Each member has a section where he really shines.
Gumbo - "Manteca"-like grooving. 8 minutes in the jam slows down and leads to some weird noises, possibly involving a spaceship landing on stage.
You Enjoy Myself - VJ features a guest appearance by Heloise Williams of the band viperHouse.
Show Notes:
Trey teased San-Ho-Zay in Ghost. 2001 included a Crosseyed and Painless tease. The YEM vocal jam featured a guest appearance by Heloise Williams of the band viperHouse.

Phish, Wednesday 11/19/1997 (26 years ago) Assembly Hall, Champaign, IL, USA
Gap Chart, Tour: 1997 Fall Tour (a.k.a. Phish Destroys America)
Set 1 : Julius , Bathtub Gin -> Llama , Dirt , Limb By Limb , Funky Bitch , Theme From the Bottom , Ginseng Sullivan , Fee -> Run Like an Antelope
Set 2 : Also Sprach Zarathustra > Wolfman's Brother -> Makisupa Policeman > Taste
Encore : Possum
Jamchart Notes:
Llama - -> in from "Bathtub Gin." Blistering playing by Trey harkens back to the "Llama" Golden Age of '90 - '92.
Fee - Ethereal outro with "Meatstick" quotes and a -> to a hot "Antelope."
Also Sprach Zarathustra - Incredible from start to finish. This has it all! Tempo changes, jazzy grooving, full band mastery, sirens, and of course danceability. Brilliant.
Wolfman's Brother - Exploratory, extremely "Type II" version. Following some classic '97-style cow funk, the jam ranges from blissfully serene and settled ground, to an extended, Trey-led blistering and somewhat dissonant section, then on to Page and Mike dominated blues rocking. This "Wolfman's" has it all, including a sweet -> to a seriously funky "Makisupa."
Makisupa Policeman - An extended, effects laden space jam begins around 5:45 and comes to a climax at 9:36, then drops right back into "Makisupa". Excellent version.
Taste - "DEG" tease from Trey. Another strong '97 version. Maybe not up there with the incredible batch from the Summer, but Trey's solo is patient, very gradually building up the intensity from a relaxed base. Page is rock solid.
Possum - Funky intro with great Mike. Excellent straightforward jam gets intense and chaotic, then turns bluesy and rocking.
Show Notes:
The segue from Fee into Antelope included Meatstick quotes. Wolfman's Brother contained Crosseyed and Painless teases and Taste contained a DEG tease from Trey.

Gap Chart, Tour: 1996 Fall Tour
Set 1 : Ya Mar , AC/DC Bag > Foam , Theme From the Bottom , Mound , Stash , Fee 1 > Taste , Loving Cup
Set 2 : David Bowie , A Day in the Life > Bathtub Gin -> The Vibration of Life -> You Enjoy Myself , The Star Spangled Banner , Fire
Encore : The Squirming Coil
1 Trey sang verses through megaphone.
Jamchart Notes:
Loving Cup - Trey rips it up and closes the FIRST set in a fiery fashion!
Bathtub Gin - A well played "Type I" jam morphs into a funky Page-led multiple keyboard show (with Trey on the mini percussion kit). At 16:10, Trey jumps back on guitar, leading a soaring jam which works back to "Gin" and -> to "Vibration of Life."
You Enjoy Myself - "Groove is in the Heart" jam.
Show Notes:
Trey sang the verses of Fee through a megaphone. Trey announced the first-ever Vibration of Life dedication and sent it out to the crew in general, and more specifically, Bob Neumann, the band's Audio Crew Chief and speaker designer. YEM included a Groove Is in the Heart jam that included brief lyrics.

Jamchart Notes:
Also Sprach Zarathustra - Hendrix style effects, Trey mini-kit and first baby voyage for "2001".
Tweezer - Gets very funky for several minutes. Very cool must-hear version.
Scent of a Mule - Vocal and guitar response by Trey, but very different from all the preceding versions. Page picks up Trey's musical theme in his second solo. Mike adds his part with extended chanting before the return to lyrics.
Show Notes:
This show included the first performance of the slow arrangement of Poor Heart. Trey teased the James Bond Theme in Stash and Tweezer in Suzy.

This show and its soundcheck were released by LivePhish.com in January 2010 to benefit the Haiti earthquake relief effort. Divided Sky, Antelope and Weekapaug featured teases of Those Were the Days, and Antelope also contained a Lizards tease from Trey and an All Fall Down signal. Trey sang the verses of Fee through a megaphone for the first time since October 1, 1990 (268 shows). Phish originals Axilla, Fast Enough for You, and Lengthwise debuted at this show, which also featured the Phish debut of I Walk The Line. The start of the second set included an Owner of a Lonely Heart tease. Mike's Song included an Under Pressure jam as well as an Axilla tease from Mike. Weekapaug was unfinished, included a vocal jam, and ended with a tease (with lyrics) of The Price of Love. Tweezer contained an I Walk The Line tease. The BBFCFM jam did not contain the song's usual lyrics - it instead featured lyrics from both I Walk The Line and Ring of Fire, as well as a brief Ring of Fire tease (from Page). Big Ball Jam also debuted, with Trey explaining the concept of the song, adding that it was written for Pete Schall. Poor Heart, Fast Enough for You and Llama featured Gordon Stone on pedal steel guitar. Trey introduced Fish as "Eyeball Man" before Lengthwise, which was performed in more of a reggae style than other versions and even featured a vacuum solo from Fish. After Lengthwise, Page said Fish wrote the song, with Trey adding that they liked it so much that it appeared twice on the album and both Page and Trey saying "it's that good." The intro to Cavern contained Axilla teases from Trey. Bold As Love was played for the first time since April 18, 1990 (318 shows).

Gap Chart, Tour: 1987 Tour
Set 1 : McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters -> Sparks , Funky Bitch , You Enjoy Myself , Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley , Harry Hood , Fire
Set 2 : Timber (Jerry the Mule) , Fluffhead , I Didn't Know , Fee , Corinna , Alumni Blues > Letter to Jimmy Page > Alumni Blues
Set 3 : Jam , Suzy Greenberg > Possum , Divided Sky > Big Black Furry Creature from Mars , Dinner and a Movie 1 , The Ballad of Curtis Loew , Whipping Post , Harpua , Take the 'A' Train , Camel Walk , La Grange , Bike 2 , Slave to the Traffic Light
1 First known performance. 2 First known Phish performance.
Jamchart Notes:
McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters - First "McGrupp" to feature Page on the keyboards following the composed sections, rather than a whole band jam. Page's solo is dark and somewhat ominous, with nice background support from the others. Rather than return to close "McGrupp" formally, the jam continues and -> to "Sparks."
Harry Hood - Exceptionally powerful early version with excellent Trey/Page interplay and a huge peak. A very moving "Hood."
Timber (Jerry the Mule) - Soaring guitar soloing by Trey. Recording quality is quite good for the period.
Jam - Fun little bluesy jam opens Set III and precedes "Suzy." Includes Trey banter referencing the "Mike Gordon Band."
Whipping Post - Trey deploys some cool, spacey, Duane-like tecniques (almost like he is playing with a bow) in the more open-ended second jam section.
Show Notes:
Divided Sky was botched badly, leading Trey to launch humorously into BBFCFM. This show contained the first known performance of Dinner and a Movie, the first known Phish performance of Bike, and was the last known show at Hunt's. Trey introduced 'A' Train as Fuck Your Face.
