2023.08.12 18:58 onetimeacc0unt0 Farm arrays isnt all that (aesthetically speaking)

Look I know its a commonly held opinion but farm arrays is actually pretty good aside from all the raindeer, it has strange plants grow in several places, in some rooms you can see multiple plants growing in the background, seemingly placed there intentionally. Giant collums and pillars in the backgrounds of some of the rooms draped over in what appears to be cloth. Giant support beams in the first few rooms of hunter mode. And Massive stone heads leading to the underground fissure. Makes you wonder what was the purpose of the farm arrays and what was the purpose of the giant structures? Why is this place connected to a giant communication hub? A direct fissure leading deep to the underground where nothing can climb back up but is also the connection to the outside world? And finally another connection to the outside world were unknowing creatures kept swept away? We learn from the farm arrays echo that the farm arrays seem to be a field type place, possibly a farm of sorts. Yet why here? Why in this direct place on the map? Aesthetically speaking I think farm arrays is pretty good, all the music choices put in it makes it a pretty good last to final area if you follow the old path, especially distance and emotion thread. Distance is a pretty good somewhat melancholic piece, making you realize you are following the footsteps of a long dead race who tried to grasp at the impossible (ascension). Not to mention distance plays near what appears to be a humanoid graffiti art dotted in tattoos, possibly an ancient without all its heavy jewerly and accessories on it. And then emotion thread, once again a melancholic piece that plays on your final raindeer ride as you grow closer and closer to your final destination, then realizing through the final dream image as survivor or monk that your journey to find your family has been in vain, and maybe there is another fate that awaits you, not to find your family but to FIND your family. All this plus the threat music is kinda good. Farm arrays may not be a good region mechanically speaking but it sure as hell is one of my favorite regions purely for the mood it conveys

2023.06.13 02:16 KLoud_Citty28 a giANt SHit POST

Anything by this band is Gospel. Fuckin' Legendary.

Now, Let's Begin:

Hi, Eggheads. I'm in your thoughts.
Hey Look MA! I made ya something.
Might get married soon, can't wait to consummate, but only so that I can get a good nights rest afterwards.
Thinking about my Soulmate, she said she's a pickle.
My Mom approves.
i wanted nail polish, thought I should get red.
I get what I want now, when I walk the streets.
My precognition is becoming reliable and less shrouded in symbolism of my person subconscious.
Feelin' Myself.
Food. Drink. Clothes. Marijuana. Money.
I See Images in my Mind. Then my Eye Show Me Correspondence within "External Reality".
Train stop. Late at night. Fetty-cane debris.
Found some extra charging cords
.And Nail Polish: ASAP Apple
Should paint my toes. Don't want to paint my Right hand.
Left hand already painted.
Dark blue.
Stole it from Target.
Second bottle of it.
Gave first bottle away to a dude with huge Cross tattoo who was having a spiritual experience in the park.
Color 609: Midnight Mod.
Should paint my toes. I like to chew on the nails on my right hand.
Found a dollar this morning on the train. Folded up. It was next to a lady wearing all yellow. Banana lady didn't want it when I pointed it out. She looked like she was trying to project Wealth.
Sometimes, I am Curious George.
Looking forward to experiencing the man with yellow hat archetype.
I got off the train and ate the food that was on the garbage can that I had jumped on the train to backtrack and investigate. And did the healthy line of Coke that was wrapped in the dollar.
Came clean: Soulmate had an article waiting to throw at me.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found of THC vape pen. Stole a charging cable.
Lost the THC vape pen, before I could charge it.
Had an emotional breakdown because not knowing the precise time it slipped from the side of my backpack drives me fucking insane. Hard to derive a specific lesson, other than - CAN'T LET GUARD DOWN.
Do I feel cool when I puff on things? Maybe. Ok, of course I fuckin' do, have any of you assholes ever smoked anything>!!>!>>!>! It's awesome.
Do you smoke?
You got any?
I love THC vape pen. It's like a wand. I feel like a Magician.
I feel like The Sorcerers' Apprentice when I strut around with those things.
I gonna walk around Moscow with one.
Don't call me Harry Potter, I don't care if it fits. I don't care if Harry's middle name is James. I always preferred his Godfather. Anyone that can turn into a big black dog and is named after a star fucks in my book. And everyone in my book? They fuck. Harry named his son, James Sirius Potter. I mean, I love to smoke pot, but that's like 'I love my Dad, so I want my last name to be Dad's name."
My last name, literally translates to 'Scotsman':
German: occupational name for a peddler or a nickname for someone who always had something to sell from Middle High German schotte ‘peddler’. German (Schött): metonymic occupational name for a tax collector from Middle Low German schot ‘tax’. Jewish (Ashkenazic): artificial name from either German Schotte ‘Scotsman’ or German Schote ‘pod’.
Some nerd shit, if you ask me.
Special Message to My Favorite most trusted Twin Flame : Long Distance Spitting (she's a rapper - they all were back then)
the 1950's... glad the culture from the Era is almost dead. Yuck.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saw Victoria in person. Didn't try to have sex with them.
I did pick them up in a loving embrace though. It's nice that I can try to have sex with someone online, and eventually, because I am projecting ghosts, it isn't awkward in person.
It's very much like how I had to project the Queen of Heaven and Hell onto my poor queer Christian Science housemate last Spring.
Poor Kelsi.
At least she was there to support me.
And help me get organized.
One day, we were doing some weeding, which would psychologically prime me to start blurting things out, and I'm like, talking to my poor housemate like she is my wife, and shit and....
Let's see some highlights of what I told her:
-Revealed my darkest secret about molesting the family dog when I was teenager because I was horny. (God, I think it was like 16, too, pretty late to be exploring with God's creatures, but fuck... who am I too judge younger Jacob, besides the Judge of All Creation. Do they make fun of you here if your parents bail you out????FATHER!!!)
The intoxication of the impulse evaporated when our Boston Terrier, Reggie, didn't reciprocate any desire for the experience.
Consent was always been sexy for me.
Reggie was good to me. He never brought it up again,
but sometimes... I'd see him walking around the yard, or the house, and I'd be like,
"fuckin' Regg, I know he wants it...."
Anyway, Reggie is dead. My step-dad ran him over on my Mom's birthday one year.
So we got Lily.
She also a Boston Terrier. I didn't try to instigate a sexual experience with her, because (like they all say) it was a one time thing, and I sort felt weird for like 20 years because of the first time.
Lily is dead, too. She died last year. My Mom called me to tell me Lily was dead, then in the same conversation, she told me her estranged father, Patrick, had died as well.
Priorities.
Mom's pain from her relationship with her Father broke my fuckin' heart.
No worries. I redeemed. Here is Lily, we called her the Soul Sucker, because if you looked into her eyes, it was like, 'good God Lil, what have you seen?'
All this talk about death has me feeling a certain type of way. Might DM, Victoria, and try to have sex with them later.

Wrote out some notes and called it, "The 4 Pillars of my Get-Outta-Jail and On Me Card"
Gonna write an essay style intrusion into my mind. Here are the topics. Self-limited for time and sanity. Neither limit observed properly.
  1. Personal Anima & the Great Balancing Act (Divine Femininity Projections of the Collective)
  2. Personal, Number, and Card Magic
  3. Thoughts on: the Nature of the healing/growth power of Soulmate and Twin Flame Relationships
  4. Personal Projections and why they are Psychologically Rigid

Sparrow St. Between 19th and 21st.

Reminds me of a bird.
Birds everywhere lately.

Jack Sparrow, too.
Uh, Jack the Pumpkin King.
Uh, Jack Bean Stalk.
Uh, Jack from the Shining.
Uh, I don't know, did I forget any important Jack's.
Ok. All other Jacks are irrelevant.
Unless, it's 2am and I want a fuck ton of Tacos.

My Anima's name is Jackie. She was born 4/20/65. She was my Mom's bestfriend and died 3 days before I was born in 1987. When I first woke up to my True Self in Feburary of 2016, Jackie told me that she is like Lyanna Stark and I am like Jon Snow.
She is my real Mother, we swapped at birth, somehow, and I am the King in hiding.
Jacqueline: Origin and Meaning
The name Jacqueline is girl's name of French origin meaning "supplanter". Jacqueline originated as a feminine form of Jacques, the French variation of James, and therefore Jacob.
My (birth) Mom's (pretty sure I did come from inside this one) name is MeChelle.
She says I was named after Jackie, but my Dad, Randy, had a boa constrictor named Jake, as well. There was always some ambiguity over which I was named after. I'm rep'n Girl Power this lifetime, but man, what could have been....
Anyway, feast your eyes on this Visually Suggestive Clusterfuck of Prophetic MS Paint Fuckery.

I have been evolving to survive exclusively on Roaches, to prepare for the inevitable outcome that will be perpetuated by the ignorance of Mankind (Once again! PLOT TWIST! I think Bill Maher is a fuckin' ignorant loser, and I have a feeling I will have the opportunity to explain it to his face. He isn't ugly. He is handsome. Maybe I will get swept away by his charm and walk away thinking Bill Maher deserves to be propped up because he has something interesting to say. But I fuckin' doubt it!
Sent a pic of a Tiny Bible to Soulmate. She confirmed that I am insane.

2023.03.30 15:07 kittehgoesmeow What A Day: Netanyahu's To Say by Julia Claire & Crooked Media (03/29/23)

"Do you have anything additional you want to say about public urination?" - Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT), valiantly trying but ultimately failing to get Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) back on track during a Congressional hearing.

The Struggle Israel

As the political temperature in Israel continues to rise, the limits of its special relationship with the United States are being tested.
Members of Congress have also begun to meaningfully question the implications of unwavering, unquestioned support for Israel.
This moment should be an inflection point for the United States’ relationship with Israel, but such a diplomatic reckoning has been a long time coming. Israel is currently under control of the most far-right government in its history, led by officials who oppose the two-state solution favored by the Biden administration. The U.S. and Israel have had repeated run-ins over construction of illegal settlements and eliminationist rhetoric, such as when Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for a Palestinian village to be “erased,” before later saying that there is “no such thing” as Palestinian people at all. That Netanyahu was also bff with disgraced former president Donald Trump during his tenure (and apparently remains so today) has also soured many Democrats and American Jewish organizations on the Israeli government. In the simplest terms: the Biden administration seems to be coming to the realization that the United States cannot purport to be a champion of democracy at home and abroad and continue an unquestioning alliance with a nation squarely headed for dictatorship.

Look No Further Than Crooked Media

The Crooked Store’s new collection is all about the fight to codify Roe v. Wade. We thought about getting “codify Roe” tattooed on our faces, but t-shirts just made more sense. Codifying Roe means passing legislation that protects the right to abortion in all 50 states. We can’t rely on the courts to uphold reproductive rights, so we’re turning to our legislators, and the Crooked Store has everything you need to spread the word. The collection includes water bottles, stickers, and unisex tees, because it’s on all of us to get the message out there.
Head to crooked.com/store now.

Under The Radar

The Senate approved legislation on Wednesday to repeal the 1991 and 2002 authorizations for American wars in Iraq. The decisive 66-30 vote is a historic step towards formally acknowledging the catastrophic failure of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, which killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and thousands of Americans. If you can believe it, all of the votes against the repeal came from Senate Republicans. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell issued a statement saying he opposes the repeal of the Authorizations for Use of Military Force because of “threats we face today in Iraq and Syria from Iran-backed terrorists.” The implicit and at times explicit fearmongering from McConnell and his war-hawk GOP colleagues is that repealing these authorizations will project “American weakness,” by contrast to two decades of failed wars based on lies, the ultimate sign of strength. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) issued a statement saying that the repeal “is an important step to prevent any president from abusing these AUMFs, reaffirm our partnership with the Iraqi government, and pay tribute to the servicemembers who served in Iraq.” Kaine and other senators have pushed to repeal the AUMFs for years in an effort to return war powers to Congress, where the Constitution envisions them.

What Else?

The Manhattan grand jury investigating Donald Trump’s “alleged” hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels will break for a month. Sure thing, guys. Take your time.
Eric Davis, the judge overseeing the Dominion Voting Systems defamation lawsuit against Fox News, isn’t buying the excuse that Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch is “too infirm” to testify at the trial.
A group of tech overlords and industry executives has called for a six-month pause in developing more advanced artificial intelligence, citing potential harms to society.
After banning nearly all abortions last year, Idaho will soon become the first state to prohibit minors from interstate travel for the procedure, which Republicans have begun referring to as “abortion trafficking.”
Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz continued to deny allegations of union busting in front of a Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee hearing, where Chairman Bernie Sanders (pretty accurately!!) accused Starbucks of waging “the most aggressive and illegal union busting campaign in the modern history of our country.”
The GOP-controlled North Carolina state legislature overrode Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper’s veto of a bill eliminating permit requirements to buy a handgun in the state.
Twitter temporarily suspended Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) Tuesday after she repeatedly posted references to a “Trans Day of Vengeance” organized by “Antifa.” Not for nothing, but considering how heavily the community has been persecuted in this country, a “Trans Day of Vengeance” sounds like a really good time, Marjorie. Thanks for the idea!
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) will return to the Senate the week of April 17 following the completion of his treatment for depression at Walter Reed Medical Center.
Correction: Yesterday I misattributed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green as (R-CO) instead of (R-GA), conflating her designation with that of Rep. Lauren Boebert (actually R-CO). My apologies to the good people of Colorado, who clearly already have their hands full.

You Gotta Be Fucking Kidding Me

The Kentucky state legislature has passed a sweeping bill banning gender-affirming health care for trans minors, restricting which bathrooms and lockers they can use, prohibiting discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools, and allowing teachers to use the names and pronouns assigned to trans minors at birth against their wishes. The passage overrides the veto of Gov. Andy Beshear (D-KY) and is firmly opposed by state medical associations, education officials, and parents of trans children. State-Sen. Max Wise (R-KY) introduced the hotly-contested legislation, and defended it by saying that its goal is to “strengthen parental engagement and communication in children’s education while protecting the safety of our children.” State-Sen. Karen Berg (D-KY) rightly called this for the crock of shit that it is, saying, “To say this is a bill protecting children is completely disingenuous. And to call this a parents’ right bill is an absolutely despicable affront to me personally.” Berg’s own trans son killed himself just weeks before the bill was introduced.

2021.12.05 05:22 wingfoot0813 Album Cover Deep Dive- Karma

It is the end of the semester and I need to procrastinate my papers and juries, so might as well do a write up on Kamelot album covers starting with Karma. I might make this a reoccurring thing with the rest of the album covers if people like this.
I have always loved a good album cover, there is a lot of times I will pick an album to buy or listen to solely based on the cover or package design. I also think a good cover can elevate an album to be even better. That being said, I have never looked too closely at Kamelot's covers even though they are one of my most listened to bands of all time. I think this mainly stems from the fact that when I began to listen to Kamelot the album covers came up as small little four pixel displays on an crappy mp3 player, paired with the low quality resolution of their earlier albums. Then with their later albums, in my opinion, being somewhat bland cover wise I never looked deeply at the covers. This is not to say that I don't love their covers, Epica, Black Halo, Ghost Opera, and Poetry for the Poisoned have some of my favorite covers and perfectly depict the music within the album, I have just never looked deeply at them as I have with other albums.
That brings me to today when I was listening to Karma and started really looking at the cover, once again procrastinating. I noticed a lot of things I haven't before and wanted to type it all up and see what others thought of the covers.
Starting with the aspect we are probably all most familiar with, the woman who is centerstage. Masked, and with a necklace that looks a lot like the K logo and beads in her hair. Looking closely at her tattoos they seem almost egyptian in nature, like hieroglyphics. Especially the figures on her left arm which can be rather hard to see. I have always thought the ending of Elizabeth III: Fall from Grace sounds rather Egyptian like, so I would hazard to guess this is Elizabeth. I don't know if Egyptian is the correct word to use here, if someone can put forth a better one I'd like to hear it.
The round object behind her, I noticed today, is a clock, very fitting with the lyrical content of the album.
Moving onto the last area, the background. It looks like it is in some atrium with steps leading to a lower area, a pool of blood. On the steps there are markings, different than the ones on the woman's arms, these appear to be more runic in nature. The room above the pool of blood is collumed with a few paintings hung on the walls, one of which is the Kamelot logo.
All of these details roughly align with the song Elizabeth, seeing how it is based on Elizabeth Bathory, a purported serial killer. It was rumored she bathed in the blood of the virgins she killed to sustain her youth and beauty. Of course, that is all folklore.
Taking a look at the physical release, it doesn't add much. A picture on the back, of the band, in what looks to be the same atrium. The CD and inside back cover is the clock that appears on the front. The booklet does not offer much in terms of pictures, just some low resolution random objects, some more distinct than others, such as a picture of a naked woman next to Glenn Barry's portrait. The only other distinct object is a landscape picture of a castle in the distance behind the track listing. Something I noticed about the track listing, on the back cover it is all in white except Elizabeth and Requiem for the Innocent, which are in red. In the inside of the booklet, only Requiem for the Innocent is in red.
This is all I was able to pick out, if anyone can see anything else I'd love to hear it. Also let me know your thoughts on all this and if I should do it for some of the other covers when I have some free time!
Edit: I should note, the only physical version I have of this is the CD. I am unsure if a vinyl was ever made. With the other albums I will probably compare the CD release and the vinyl release, since I have most of them on vinyl as well as CD.
Edit 2: Here's an album of pictures of the cover, disc, and booklet

2021.06.25 18:07 MrMonkey1993 It's the right thing to do.

Our homes were gone. Our people on the run or being slaughtered like so much livestock. We Elves had always though ourselves superior to the other races. The Dwarves, noble and old yes but thick headed and stubborn. The Orcs, brutish barbarians with more scares than brain cells. The Merfolk, reclusive people that dwelt in the oceans. Then there are the Humans, Mankind. A race that if lucky you will live to be 80 years old. My people don't consider you an adult until you are 60. They are a race of children. Their short lives fill with the hardships we have long since overcome. However. Our hubris has doomed us. We opened a magic portal to another plain, one we hoped to plunder. We were wrong.
The portal was to a mad hellscape, yes rich in resources but also abominations. The denizens of this world craved blood and death and flesh. We opened their world to ours and they flooded in. Before we had chance to react our people were diying by the hundred.
My people fled, the Dwarves locked their holds to us and broke all bonds of aliance, the Orc would rather kill us than aid us and we have no fleet to seek the Merfolk. Our last hope was Humanity. Long ago we had built a great wall at one end of a valley that join the Human lands and our own. In pitifully mockery they had built their own on the other end its size and grandeur not even half of our own.
Now the last of my people press themselves to that wall and plee for aid for mercy, some demand it of them but it is fear that drives them. I pound my fists on the giant oaken doors my palms bloody from the effort. We can hear the monsters coming. Smell the smoke and blood on the air. Our last few hundred soilder form a thin line between us and them.
"STEP AWAY FROM THE GATES!" Booms a magical voice from the walls fallowed by lock metallic clunks from inside. Slowly inch by inch the door swing out but through the widening gap I see armoured figures. My heart practically stops. They send soilders to kill us in our darkest day. I can hardly say we didn't deserve it. We damned rivers for our gain causing drought and famine to the human settlements downstream. We offered not aid when plague and disease ran rampent though their land. The Humans were always short lived ignorant children in our eyes the butt of jokes. I stagger back from the doors. Clearly others have come to the same conclusion the weap or run others simple step back in shock.
"Company, advance! At the double!" With that as one the collum or armour and spear and sheild martches from the gatehouse at a jog. To my surpise not one lowers their spear the jog past us though our group rank upon rank of spearman, archer and cavalry there are even a few Demi-orges fully armoured with great broadswords and sheilds. The run past us and beyond our thin line of men. They split and form two curved lines acrchers in the back spearman make a wall of death in front.
After the wave of military comes cart after cart some pulled by humans or young orges others pulled by horses. The spread out and begin collecting as many Elves as they can wounded, old, women and children are all loaded into carts I even see a few human mages running around healing those most critical.
"Inside the wall quickly!" Shouts a powerful voice behind me. There aside a powerful warhorse in full plate is the human High-King Pentacost. Not Just the local Duke or Monarch of the area but the Highest member of the Human lands. He is waving my people in his white cloak flowing in the wind. He see an old Elven woman stubble she is probably ten time his age she is struggling with some young children I know they are not hers, their elegant family tattoos do not match anywhere. The children are orphans. Alone save for this relic of my kind. Without though the High-King dismounts and runs to her side waving a medical cart to them as he does so. The Woman has broken bones her pained expression is evidence of this I move over to help load the cart as a mage treats her. She refuses to leave until all the children have been accounted for.
Mighty cannons atop the wall fire at the horde aproching from my land. The King gentle lifts the old Woman onto the Cart her shrivelled face wet with tears of pain and gratitude. Pentacost turns to me "You had better get inside. As soon as you are all safe my men will pull back." His words are punctuated by more Cannons. "Why would you do this? You were always treated as a Joke to us, lesser beings. Why would you do all this to help us?" He looks at me his brown eyes showing compassion and kindness where I would have thought resentment and anger. His next words shook me to my core. "It's the right thing to do." He nodded to the gates and I looked back to see we were the only ones left besides the soilders who were even now fighting a retreat to the gates. I turn as I ran into the Human kingdom and looked back as the last few of the King's men held back the monsters. Selling their lives for ours. For mine.
I weapt, not for what we lost, but for how we had misjudged these people so badly.

2019.12.11 17:40 ST012Mi ‘One of the Nicest Guys You’ll Ever Meet’: Inside the Renaissance of the Rockets’ Ben Edwards McLemore III by Kelly Iko

Anthony Tolliver sits at his locker quietly sifting through his things, currently losing a game of hide and seek with his gold necklace.
These days, the 34-year-old can get through a postgame relatively unnoticed, as Portland media congregates toward the Damian Lillards and CJ McCollums — and now the Carmelo Anthonys — of the world. After nearly 700 league games played, he isn’t exactly the one people run to for game quotes or explanations, but his memory is still razor-sharp, especially when he recalls those long, depressing nights with Ben McLemore during their lone season together in Sacramento.
By 2016, things were different. Night and day from when McLemore was drafted three years prior. He was their consensus pick, so much so that ownership attempted to move into the top 5, as high as secnd overall to snag him.
“We got the best player in the (draft) at seven,” majority owner Vivek Ranadivé said at the Kings’ draft headquarter and team viewing party.
Tolliver wasn’t there yet in Sacramento when Ben McLemore got drafted in 2013, but Mike Malone was. McLemore absolutely loved Coach Malone, as most players who’ve played for him will tell you. To this day, before every Denver game, McLemore and Malone will step aside to catch up on each other’s families and lives. Privately, Malone expresses a great amount of joy for his landing in Houston and his success.
Malone cared about his players. Deeply. Sometimes, it would get the best of him, to a point where he couldn’t contain his emotions. But his guys were ready to run through a brick wall for him. Malone loved McLemore and wanted to develop him, taking his scoring talents at Kansas and wanting to parlay them to a premier offensive role at the pro level.
Malone trusted McLemore, enough so to run offensive sets for him and not wanting to draft another player at his position. He instilled confidence in McLemore. He always felt he could be an All-Star, and spent a great deal of time with him, both on and off the floor. During the course of games, of course, McLemore would mess up from time to time. He’s a rookie; it’s what you’re supposed to do. But Malone let him ride out those mistakes, understanding the best way for players to get into a groove is by playing, not sitting.
Those Kings won just 28 games that season, but Malone wouldn’t be given much time to improve on that. The following season brought underlying tension between coaching and management, stylistic differences, an injury to DeMarcus Cousins and more losses, and Malone was fired after an 11-13 start. This would continue a trend in which McLemore saw four head coaches in each of his first four seasons.
His last one, Dave Joerger, was anything but like Malone. He had a considerably shorter leash. If McLemore wasn’t shooting well, he would yank him, sometimes for large chunks of the game. He didn’t quite trust McLemore, which is fine, every coach has his own style. But for a young team trying to develop players, it isn’t the best approach, especially for a highly sought after draftee. It was a microcosm of McLemore’s time in Sacramento, some positive moments but not a lot of trust by the coaching staff and front office.
For young players, that’s as important as anything. A team is a relationship at the end of the day. You want to be able to confide in your coaches and vice versa. Young players depend on those older and more experienced than them for guidance, for the experience. But when those in charge don’t provide a haven, it can be tough.
But it’s well-known that the Kings had a toxic culture for years. And that, combined with the venemous world of social media, didn’t make the early years easy for him.
“It was difficult, man,” McLemore told The Athletic. “Especially coming in the league young and dealing with a lot of adversity. Ups and downs, trying to better myself and figure out ways to fix it and be at the right place, right time mentally. As I got older and matured, being around veterans and more experienced guys, getting advice from them, being a part of this new organization (helped); the guys like James (Harden), Russ (Westbrook), Tyson (Chandler), EG (Eric Gordon), Tuck (P.J. Tucker) — guys like that who have been in the game for a while and have dealt with adversity and know how to deal with it.”
In the time the two spent together in Kings uniforms, Tolliver has good memories of being around McLemore.
“One of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet,” Tolliver said. “He’s a hard worker. Someone who stays in the gym, and stays disciplined in what he’s doing. He wants to be good, wants to stick around. He wants to have a spot. He’s just a good dude. Anytime I see him, I cheer for him.
“To me, more important than being a good basketball player is being a good person, and he’s got that down. And he’s had a lot of crazy stuff happen in his life, he’s had some loss in his life. I’m just rooting for him as a whole for all the adversity he’s gone through.”
Being his teammate and friend, Tolliver had a first-hand experience seeing McLemore fight through adversity. Inconsistent playing time, coaching changes, system changes, shooting slumps, tragedy and everything under the sun.
“His brother passed [one] year ago,” Tolliver said. “That was after I was with him. But he’s had some other not-so-favorable stuff happen to him as well. Me, as an ex-teammate, we’re not like best friends or keep in touch crazy, but I’ve always tried to support him as much as I can from afar, give him my thoughts and prayers through social media and actually pray for him and not just say it. Putting praying hands and moving on to the next slide, but actually praying for him and his family. Him being a St. Louis boy, that’s another connection we had, being from Missouri. It’s definitely tough losing anybody, but losing young family members is always a little bit tougher.”
That tumultuous 2016-17 season would end up being the last for McLemore in Sacramento.
After four up and down years, the team decided to go in another direction, declining his team option and making him a free agent. The Cousins trade to New Orleans had quite a deal of drama surrounding it, but had brought Buddy Hield to town, and with him came a large chunk of McLemore’s would-be minutes.
It was the first time McLemore had experienced free agency of any kind, but he was young and still highly touted in some NBA circles, having been a top-10 pick from college basketball powerhouse Kansas, and still a sniper in the NBA.
There was interest from teams, but one man, in particular, wanted McLemore more than anything: David Fizdale, then head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies.
“Fizdale had really recruited Ben,” McLemore’s manager, Hazem Al-Gibaly, told The Athletic.
Having been in Sacramento his whole career to date, McLemore had never gotten to experience playoff basketball. The closest he had was his frequent trips to Cleveland to watch LeBron James and the Cavaliers roam the top of the Eastern Conference. The two had a good relationship, stemming from McLemore’s time as a young Jayhawk.
“I loved him coming out of college when he was down in Kansas,” current teammate Tyson Chandler said. “I thought he was one of the more complete players in the draft. His physical stature, the way he could shoot the ball, his athletic ability. He’s made for the game.”
Like Chandler, LeBron had always been high on McLemore’s talents and constantly kept in touch. But something sitting in those seats at Quicken Loans Arena showed him what he had lacked so far, and McLemore stated he needed to be in that atmosphere.
He would sign a two-year contract with Memphis, worth $11 million, for that very reason: playoff basketball. The scrappy Grizzlies were coming off a hard-fought, six-game slugfest with the Spurs and their outlook still looked favorable.
But it wasn’t meant to be. Shortly after signing, Zach Randolph and Vince Carter, two of the team’s staples and veteran leaders, departed for Sacramento, ironically enough. McLemore, spending his summers in Los Angeles, broke his foot during the popular UCLA runs. He entered into a 12-week rehab program, missing training camp, preseason and a chunk of the regular season.
By the time he was healthy and returned to the rotation, however, Memphis was already behind the 8-ball. The Grizzlies were under .500 and having internal issues stemming from coaching style and rotations to the players individually. Just eight games after McLemore had returned, with the team sitting at 7-12, Fizdale was abruptly fired. Gone was the coach who had lobbied the hardest for his services. J.B. Bickerstaff, Fizdale’s replacement, wasn’t nearly as high on McLemore as his predecessor, and his playing time from that moment on was inconsistent. Eight minutes here, 20 minutes here, a DNP there, it just never was solidified. Averaging just 7.5 points per game on .346 shooting, it was the worst year of his professional career.
The average Grizzlies fan might have just glanced at the box score and declared McLemore an average or sub-par player. But oftentimes, people forget that these NBA players go through life with the same and have trials and tribulations as we do. Can that affect on-court performance? Most definitely.
“A lot of people look at us as bigger-than-life figures,” Tolliver said. “It almost seems like we’re machines. No, we have struggles. We have real life that happens to us, just like you guys. There are hard times, there’s loss, there are broken relationships. A lot of things happen in our life just like everyone else. Yeah, we make good money and live a cool life, but that doesn’t shield us from the hardships of life that everyone goes through.”
This past summer, McLemore found himself in a familiar situation. He was a free agent once again, only this time, the phone wasn’t ringing as much as before. It was an unfamiliar place for McLemore, being touted so highly coming up and always on an NBA roster, no matter how good or bad they were.
There was another short stint in Sacramento that had ended in him being waived for roster flexibility. There was a 10-day signed in Toronto that never was, due to a CBA complication.
Plans were in place to work out for teams once the playoffs were done. The most important thing, when you’re not actively on an NBA team, is staying ready. McLemore has two tattoos on his neck in Arabic, a tribute to his best friend and manager, Hazem, of Middle Eastern descent, one that says ‘humble,’ and the other, ‘hungry.’ It’s been his motto since he played basketball at Kansas.
It’s hard to stay in game shape when you’re not playing, but working out twice, three times a day keeps you engaged. Apart from the physical workouts, McLemore prepared himself mentally. It was a humbling period for him, but there was too much talent that teams would eventually call. He had to be ready. Those who know and work with McLemore say that one of his best attributes is his coachability, both on and off the floor. He doesn’t have a large ego, despite being a lottery pick. His work ethic is unquestioned, and he learns from anyone who has something to say.
When Al-Gibaly and McLemore got together in their offseason Los Angeles base, they had to evaluate all options. This time around, there would be an added importance of getting involved in a situation that would really benefit him.
In total, there were three concrete offers on the table. One from an Eastern Conference team — a guaranteed deal and a defined role, but it wasn’t a winning team. Another team, in the Western Conference, had extended a guaranteed offer, but it didn’t look like the best opportunity from a minutes standpoint. At this point, even a fully guaranteed deal wasn’t enough if McLemore didn’t get a chance to really showcase his skillset.
McLemore and Al-Gibaly were at Joe & the Juice, a popular coffee shop and juice bar located in Hollywood, when the third offer came in. It was Daryl Morey and Houston on the phone, offering a non-guaranteed deal. The Rockets were one of the teams McLemore had worked out for and were attractive for a number of reasons. McLemore was a fan of their style of play, interested in playing for a winning team with the opportunity for playoff basketball. He held coach Mike D’Antoni in very high regard, well aware of his ability to bring the best out of players.
But the deal wouldn’t have been made possible without the interest of Morey. Houston’s GM operates in the venture capital realm, looking for players who might be undervalued and still have relatively high ceilings. Morey saw a player that hadn’t been placed in a favorable situation and opportunity. At worst, McLemore in Houston was an inexpensive move that wouldn’t work out. At its best, it was a steal.
There was no assurance that McLemore would make the team, but he was going to give it his best shot. He jumped at the chance to go to Vegas for Houston’s unofficial minicamp with other veterans looking to make the roster.
The Rockets held team workouts, often twice in a day. But it was the work he did alone that allowed him to stand out in the dry Vegas heat. He watched film, studying his new team to better acclimate himself, learning their tendencies. During individual workouts, they practiced a lot of the kind of shots McLemore would be getting in a Rockets offense. Running to the corners, slots and wings for catch-and-shoot looks. Running the floor in transition for dunks and layups. Making adjustments from his time in Sacramento and Memphis, where he would take a decent amount of midrange looks.
He also sought out the opinion of the coaching staff, asking what he needed to do to make the team and help them win. McLemore took an inner look at his deficiencies, knowing he was far from a perfect player. One of his goals is to win Most Improved Player, and he wants to be one of the premier 3&D wings in the league. That isn’t possible without a great improvement in his defense, and both he and the Rockets knew that.
Houston knew he could shoot already, but being energetic, going up for rebounds and running to the corner are things that would make an impact on them.
“I think that’s the reason why I’m here, to do the little things,” McLemore said.
All in all, this process helped build trust between McLemore and the coaches. It’s one thing for staff to trust a player to perform in different situations on the floor, it’s another for the player to trust the coaches that they have his best interest at heart. Helping the team also helps himself.
“There’s been a ton of guys throughout my career and in general that have gone to places,” Chandler said. “Either the place they were at didn’t suit them and their talent, or it just took them a little while to understand this league, what it’s about, and their place. I’ve always loved Ben’s game, and with the right opportunity, he could blossom and be a great player. We’ve always seen spots throughout his career, but I think he’s really starting to put things together now, and his confidence is starting to grow. He’s the type of player, the more his confidence grows, the better it’s going to be, because he has all the tools.”
It’s late in October, and dusk is setting upon Houston. It’s the moment where the sky — much like the city’s weather — is unsure of what it wants to do.
McLemore walks into a midtown establishment, relatively unknown to the patrons in mid-celebration. He waltzes through the tables, using his 6-foot-3 shifty frame to weave around objects like coming off a pindown, making his way to the back of the room to greet the DJ before taking a seat by the deck.
For the fast-moving city that is Houston, this is a very lowkey setting. But it’s relaxed and free, much like the team culture he’s been adopted into.
“I think coaches do an excellent job of giving him freedom, giving him confidence,” Chandler said. “He’s playing alongside other great players so that in itself helps you learn how to sharpen your tools. But yeah, the culture is a laid-back atmosphere that expects you to do your job. This is the type of place a player can thrive in.”
“I just want to continue to work each and every day on my game,” McLemore said. “That’s what I’m doing now so I’m in a great situation with the Houston Rockets. Great teammates, great veterans around me. It’s a great experience to have that joy back in the game again, happiness. It’s been amazing and I’m taking full advantage of it. I live with the results because I know I put hard work and effort into it.”
Through 23 games, McLemore is thriving as a Rocket. Earlier last week, he put together back-to-back games of at least 25 points, the first time in his career. He also made a career-high eight 3-pointers in a key road win over the Toronto Raptors. His net rating of 13.9 ranks seventh among NBA players seeing the floor for at least 20 minutes. He’s brought a healthy combination of shooting, athleticism and solid defense, especially when Houston has been short of bodies.
“Ben’s playing great,” D’Antoni said. “We always thought he was going to play well. He’s too coachable, plays too hard, and plays defense. If it’s just a matter of shooting, if you watch him he’s got a great form, so why wouldn’t he play well? There was no reason other than just feeling comfortable and getting into a role.”
“I try to keep the game as simple as possible,” McLemore said. “I learned that over the years of my career. Trying not to do too much. Playing my game and having fun, running the floor, being athletic, shooting the 3, guarding things like that. I think that’s pretty much defined in my role here. My purpose is to find my role and be the best in my role. That’s what I need to perfect and be consistent each and every night. Over the few weeks of preseason and training camp, I think I kind of showed that I can be consistent, which I lacked over the years. I think mentally and physically I’m locked in.”
Off the court, he’s formed a rapport with his teammates. His late brother, Kevin McLemore, was a big fan of Westbrook’s game, and Westbrook is a big fan of his big brother. It’s a common sight to see them joking around before practice, as well as Harden.
“Yeah, he just never had an opportunity, but just certain situations aren’t great for other guys,” Harden added. “He’s finally around some vets that know what they want (to) accomplish, and he knows his role. Whether he misses or makes shots, I think his energy and his spirit he brings every game is something that’s huge for us.”
“The training staff calls me Benjamin,” McLemore jokes. “That’s not my government name, but they call me Benjamin. Some of the guys (Westbrook and Harden) call me Benny. B-Mac, Savage, whatever. But most of the time I’m hearing Benny and Benjamin.
“Makes my job easy to make their job easier by doing the things I do. Running the floor, making shots defending, and taking the pressure off of them when James is getting doubled or Russ is running the show. Just spotting up and spacing, things like that, and making plays.”
At one point in the season, McLemore went through a bit of a shooting slump, missing 22 of his 29 3-point attempts. In his previous stops, he would have been taken out of the game immediately. But here, the team doesn’t ever want him to stop firing.
“Yeah, encouraging, for sure,” McLemore said. “I just had a talk with Coach Brett about that, because over the previous years in my career, things like that have happened. But here, they try to continue to build your confidence and go out there with the mindset of playing freely and playing your game.
“I think coming in young and having six or seven coaches within each year, as a young player coming in with different coaches and system changes, stuff like that, it definitely affects you a little bit mentally. But over the years I learned and grew as a player, and understood the game as well. So it helped me a lot. Being here and being in a great situation I’m in has helped me get better.”

2019.07.02 23:21 SebbyHafen 100 Player Challenge

I wanted to see if I could name 100 current players in the NBA, their team (or the one to which they were just traded), and give a decent analysis of their game without using any references. If they were on a roster in 2018-2019, they are fair game. So here we go:
  1. Donovan Mitchell (Jazz) Up and comer, knows how to score, will be freed up a bunch this next season.
  2. Mike Conley (Jazz) All-star caliber point guard who can score off the dribble.
  3. Derrick Favors (Pelicans) Big ol' Faves just getting boards. Tried to add a 3 to his game but it didn't work out.
  4. Joe Ingles (Jazz) Great shooter, handles the ball well but has a hard time running point and scoring at the same time. Australian. World class trash talker.
  5. Chris Paul (Rockets) All-time great point guard with the pettiness of a li'l b*tch.
  6. James Harden (Rockets) Possibly the best scorer of all time. Step back three is literally unguardable.
  7. Seth Curry (Mavs) The other Curry. Great shooter, decent ball handler and passer.
  8. Steph Curry (Warriors) All time great shooter, excellent ball handling. Can be a weak spot on defense.
  9. LeBron James (Lakers) Consider by many to be the GOAT. The only thing that can stop him is father time.

  11. Russell Westbrook (Thunder) Plays like a bull dog. Can get out of control but this man is a freak.
  12. Paul George (Thunder) Had some injury trouble but has ice water in his veins. One of the best 3's in the league.
  13. Kyrie Irving (Nets) Insane handles, shot can be streaky, the Earth is flat.
  14. Georges Niang (Jazz) Great shooter, just a touch slow to be a great defender for his size.

2017.09.19 21:01 Monstaen Siweberjen Saga [Part 1]: Hunter

This is just one of many tales I plan to unearth from a long-forgoten folklore.
INTRODUCTION
I may not be the best story-teller there is, but what I offer will be unique and exists solely to explore an almost extinct series of what I can only assume are stories.
I ask of my readers to instruct me in how to better my style for their own enjoyment and if they find the content engaging. Not that I would stop decyphering these tales, but if no one finds them intriguing I will put it on the backburner for a while and publish them to a different community.
For the remainder of this chapter my motivation for writing and the origin of the stories will be made clear.
If it is only the stories you seek, this prologues is inconsequential.
PROLOGUE
With the passing of my great grand-mother I was granted the chance to remember a bit of my childhood. We drove to her old house in the country to clean it up, find any relevant paperwork but mostly to throw away all the junk she hoarded for the better part of a century.
I say "house" because it could no longer be a "home" ever since her accident. The old hag was as healthy as a ninety-something year old farmer could be, but she had a tendency to overwork herself ever since her husband succumbed to frostbite during the war and bone fractures were not uncommon every few months.
The final nail in the coffin was when she dislocated both arms, fractured a hip and broke her leg. How she managed to so nimbly navigate a few acres of wild pasture in the heat of June but sliped on the stairs during a cold evening is beyond reason, but her habit of over-indulging in plum vodka might have something to do with it.
After that final accident her daughter decided she could no longer be left to her own devices so she lived with my grandparents for a good couple of years, and despite her constant pleas she was not allowed to go back and tend to her farm house. The neglicence showed when we uncovered what was left.
Forget painting the walls, no matter how much clay and mortar you would use, they were certain to cave in during the first heavy storm. Those small, branch-like cracks in the corners grew like a wild thorn bush to the point where they crossed in the middle.
The paint wasn't cracked, most of it had turned to dust and the few remaining spots revealed three distinct coatings, pink, azure and cream. The country folk where I come from had lost all sense of aesthetics after they abandoned the old white and red murals with straw-thatched-roofs style.
Had the two clay buildings on either side of the yard been instead a single two story construction, it would have certainly collapsed by now.
Luckily, the five rooms and one hallway that comprised the house were spread so far apart there were four separate entrances, if you ignore the two attics and cellar. And out of the thresholds to those four entrances a fine bonfire could be made as they were all neatly sitting in piles of wood boards and a few smaller wooden wedges used for adjustment.
Once said wood was cleared out, we took turns wrestling with the rusted locks, so heavy they threatened to mame you, should one of them decide to give unexpctedly and land on your foot.
This all proved a vain effort as the doors themselves would have caved in at the first healthy kick. It's hard to imagine how a woman pushing a hundred endured winter when the shabby wooden doors to her kitchen and living room had cracks splitting half-way across, but it definetely explains how my great grandfather's frostbite crawled up from his toes after he came back from duty.
I assume spirits distilled with ancient tradition and farmwork greatly improve blood-flow.
The rooms were what you'd expect. Moth-eathen sheep-hide carpets were doing their best to cushion the cacophony of our boots on the creaking floorboards, rotted from all the leaks when no one was there to arrange about a dozen buckets for catching rain-water.
We stacked all furniture in corners, put all textile items in large trash bags and piled up all the coroded utensils in the yard where an old television set and a small fridge with no freezer kept them company. My parents told me I was free to wonder about, maybe play with the animals while they figured out what to do with the glass and ceramic ornaments. It was not nostalgia but great sorrow that walk brought back in me.
"Dust in the Wind" is all my mind would conjure. Past cobwebs heavy with dust and stairs so crooked I had to hold on to the railing there was a small stack of potatoes sprouting roots up to my neck strait as a bamboo shoot and white as porcelaine, in the corners of the cellar. A few ducklings were strutting about in a large puddle next to the sand pile reduced to less than a quarter of its height due to sheer wind storms.
The dogs tried barking me down but gave up after a pathetic few minutes while distressed chicken climbed up and down the attic ladders. There was a kitten stomping around in the cereal crates, stinking of rat feces and mouldy grain. The neighbours did a good job of feeding the animals for what we payed them, but that was about as much as they did for the poor unkempt souls.
To get to the garden you had to pass through a large wooden shed of sorts, the lower leverl meant for horses and carts and the higher for hay. As soon as I opened the smaller of the doors that double as walls, I heard the crashing of many roof tiles inside. I stepped over the hip-tall wood barrier and thought twice when I saw the support beams which I carelesly ran across and swung from as a teen slightly chubbier than I now am had one of their ends planted i the ground, foring forty five degree angles with the walls they were supposed to connect to the support pillars in the middle.
I sat down on one of the few intact pegs of a ladder and examined the interior over a quick smoke. Cart-wheels, rakes, shovel and larger would implements I didn't understand were strewn across the floor and had to be overcome every time you wanted to access the outhouse. That old granny was doing some cross-fit every time she had to use the toilet. Another of the wooden devices caught my attention. A sort of hanger made of a bunch of thick stilts and some twine held an untreated sheep-hide, soggy from the rain.
That took me back to the conversation that brought about me discovering a certain book. A conversation I had with a sweetheart of mine back when I was only sixteen.
"Here. You can have it back."
"Done already?"
"It's not exactly a difficult read."
"I know. I don't reccomend books I haven't tried myself, but a day is still a bit execisve. Were you doing anything else?"
"Not really. It's the cheapest way of entertaining myself. I sometimes go up to one of those old people clearing out their library and buy whatever I can carry. Ever had something printed on skin(though commonly translated to leather, in my language that can refer to any type of tanned or untreated hide, even human skin)?"
"No, but now that I think about it. I saw one as a child. Supposedly, my great grandpa got it from one of his squad mates. It was this large leather-bound volume. The pictures were really weird, something like tribal tattoos. Even though I could read I didn't want to take it because I couldn't understand the script. It was all cursive, really faded ink. You could make out the letters if you squinted a bit, it was our alphabet, but it was some old dialect. Almost every sentence started with a capital "I"(not a word in my mother language). Judging by the illustrations it was some sort of story-book. I'm pretty sure I saw some werewolves and other weird humanoids I can't compare to any modern-day fiction, but there were also famous historical rulers and a lot of medieval age men-at-arms."
I went back to my family. They were ready to go home. They found the papers they needed and decide they would take care of the mess next trip. I asked if I could take some reading material from the library. They pointed to a garbage bag large enough to carry a body and said they're throwing away everything else.
Surely enough, it was there, in all it's glory. It wasn't actually printed on leather, rather leather-bound, and not cow leather-at that, the seams made it obvious it was made of some smaller animal's hide, but the pages were nevertheless interesting.
They weren't faded, as you'd think, the only noticeable brown spots were clearly stains. This was most likely paper made out of hemp. The ink kept most of its integrity, the letters, while faded a bit down the middle had very dark outlines and a sharp silhouette. The lineweight also made it very easy to read. It was a very stylized script, with hooks at the ends of lone lines and very fat middle bodies.
There was a lot of decoration. Most chapters began with large illustrations taking up at least half of the pages, sometimes its entirety and the edges of the pages were most of the time decorated by celtic-looking patterns, simmilar to what remains of the Beowulf sagas, but not as complex or what old monks put in to transcriptions of the testament.
These collums, despite being inked, often had turqoise or redish glow-like effects somehow applied bellow the bulk of the line, almost as if a brush of thin water paint was put across before the pen or maybe quill put in the lines.
Most of this oddly proportioned, heavy volume was, indeed, written in some old variation of my language, I could imediately tell most of the nouns of slavic or ancient origins and the rest were a matter of swapping suffixes and prefixes around the roots of words; but some were written in a few other languages. The only one I recognized by the accents was hungarian, but I could definetely make out some germanic and slavic elements in the others.
The illustrations were of a gorgeous black and white surrealism, often depicting a single human, whose trade you could tell by clothing, beard length and tools at his belt, sometimes there were monsters that were just misshapen humanoids, and sometimes there was a single tool, like a rake on a field with suprisingly modern foreshortening to simulate depth. Some scenes were obviously religious Christian depictions like the crucifiction or Saint George, the dragon slayer, some looked very simmilar to historical figures from my country, but most looked to general to point to any other reference I had.
Despite my inability to make out even a single sentence completely due to the odd syntax and short connecting words foreign to me, I knew what I had to do.
I vouched to take this tome of myths and folklore, do my best to piece together the fragments I can translate in modern English and hope the stories strike some simmilarity with the stories of other people's cultures in an attempt to understand what the writers intended to pass down to future generations.
As a student of the humanities, it was my duty to not let this flame burn out, so I grabbed the book, along with this pig-bladder ball I found(I felt a bit of an odd animal-based item high in that moment) and stepped in the car to take me back home where I could consult sources on the internet and bring back some legends.
UPDATE 1 As of September of 2017 I have made out half a dozen traditional fairy tales which I feel no need to investigate at the moment. I will eventually come back and bring these versions back to life so people can contrast and compare the details between interpretations, but right now I'm looking for something more original, that I can't recognize from popular culture or local tradition. On a side note, these versions contain a lot more animals that not only talk and occasionaly help the hero, but have a soul, passions and intentions of their own. I have fixated on this story for now which seems to mimic the urban legends and often proven cases of people being raised by animals. I hope you Enjoy
STORY I: HUNTER
Illustration: A malnourished young man, with surprisingly sinewy limbs and a caved in belly, standing half-squatting over a small fire, pounding a rock into the dirt with his left hand, duste flying out and in his right hand which is almost completely black and behind him holding a long thin object(perhaps a stick or bone).
His feet are firmly planted on a canvas ov leaves or bushes, in the background there are many black specs that could represent either a dry field or the night sky and on the very edge of the frame, on the right you see the hind legs and stuffy tail of an animal that is proportioned to be the height of the man's legs, which are bent. This animal could be a dog, wolf or fox by my judgement. It looks to be leaving the frame, by the arangement of its legs; going somewhere else, not simply standing poised.
The man's head looks a bit too small for his body. He must be young as only some of his sharp chin and sides have streaks representing stuble not at all simmilar to the other depictions of men here which have thick wavy beards. The moth is just a dashed line the cheekbones are protruding and join the laughline in a thin curve. The eyes are just dark beads with a few thick lines slightly angled inward for brows. The forehead is furrowed with one thin line slightly curved in the middle and another smaller one the size of a hyphen on top. The hair looks short and spiky at first glance, but it's all to one side, like some sort of "scene" or "emo" haircut, probably indicating it is dirty, midlength and swiped to one side. The ears are not visible.
There are decorative collumns on all sides of the title and illustration page, but the following pages only have one collumn to the central side each. On this first pages the four collums are interwoven in the corners, where they meet, except for the lower-right corner, where I assume a mistake had been made, because the lines go straight for too long compared to the other corners and in the middle it looks like a stamp or sigil was placed over the mistake as the falcon's wings common in so many coats of arms can be made out while the rest is an inky splotch.
Title: I chose the title "Hunter", although my original idea was "Hunter of Men", but I figured that could be used for another story. The original title looks to me like it has the root word for hunter, despiter having a weird augmentative suffix that I haven't ever seen used. It may also be "The Bruised One", "The Purple One", "The Hunted One" or "The Eggplant Man". I believe "Hunter" is the closest aproximation when read in context.
The Story: "Hunter" is the name of our titular character. His origins remain unclear as there is a two pages and a quarter's worth of text where the only words I can make out are "farmstead", "brook" and "went".
His is the story of a man living among a pack wolves in the forests of Azuga, so it can be assumed that the criptic fragment is the story of him being left in the wilderness or going there to retreat from society. In the middle of that fragment there is a smaller crude illustration of an elderly woman as judged by her scarf striking a young boy with a broom.
Only the boy's torso, head and one arm that's absolving the strike and protecting his face can be scene from the left edge of the drawing, but I'm assuming it's "Hunter". There is a tall haystack behind the woman and no other person in frame.
A fragment of text to the right of the drawing, written with dialogue markers reads "Devil-cub"(were it localized it could be interpreted as "Demonspawn" or through a strange reading and relation to the tradition of the Draco, it could also be wolf cub, said in a demeaning manner).
This is a local way of reffering to kids and young people who are unruly and untame, even uttered by their parents when they cannot accept their efforts wheren't enough to civilize their children. It can be said in an affectionate nag, or a disgusted realization.
This drawing could either depict a young "Hunter" being chased out of the village by their mother or a wild "Hunter" unsuccesfully trying to enter civilization after living in the wilderness. Either way, we see the character of the story being shunned by locals.
Past this mysterious set-up it is clearly stated that he lived amongst a the beasts of the wild. He was accompanied by a roaming pack of wolves. They never separated during winter, but the wolves would often leave on hunts during the summer months, sometimes missing for days at a time, but always returning to the same spot, near a small cave entrance surrounded by undergrowth and bushes.
Hunter subsisted on stinging nettles, berries and rabbit. The latter he hunted while his pack was away and always shared with them. Despite having no trouble sleeping with wolves, which only frightened him when they growled at each other or fought too violently, Hunter was scared of bears and deer, which in turn were just as scared of him.
Whenever hunter saw one, he ran downhill where the trees were easier to climb, not looking back. He also frightened at the sound of horses neighing and dogs barking, which is why his trips to pastures where he drank from the utters of unattended cows were rare and why he would never partake when his pack brought in a lamb.
He was jealous of the bear for catching fish right out of the stream and licking honey from hives, things which he could never do and which gave him nightmares after he was stung and had to hide in a muddy swamp until the bees left.
Despite all this, he did find his own delight in his "Black Brew"(may mean Coal-Based Drink or Dirty Water or a combination), which he was taught how to prepare by an old lady who was a saint(literally) who lived in a hut hiddenn in the thickest of the forest. He never knew where the hut was during the day but he could always find it, if he went into the cave and ate of the thin mushrooms on a night with no moon. The Black Brew helped him hunt for days on end, without tiring, helped him run across the fields without fatigue, but also let him sleep during cold and wet times. The only lady also taught him to make fires, burn the deadwood all around him. His pack always retreated when he made the flames, but returned while the coals were still warm and helped him through the nights.
The fire was his undoing. During the second winter month he made a fan on a stick out of tree-bark and made the greatest flame he ever built to celebrate. He even boiled water in an old copper pot he found with mint leaves and treesap. But the smoke was too tall. He saw a man with a lantern and sword in hand cut the bushes below. He saw them before, but in a party. Men with torches and spears. searching the night a week ago. He knew it was for the girl.
The wolves ate the girl, but only after she fell by herself from a cliff and into a rocky cave. Her skull was cracked and her eyes still when they got to her. They left only the bones. For that Tisa came back with a bloodied leg and still limped. He was going to ask the old hag how to heal Tisa, but now the man with an iron helm and steel coat was coming to kill them all. Hunter had already eaten the mushroom.
Tisa howled, then the others howled. Hunter howled with them. He jumped all the way to where the man was, and the pack ran down. The man fell over when he saw Hunter. Hunter knew the people did not like him. His teeth were twisted and too long unlike other men who could bite into an apple. His nails were always bloody unlike other men who had only mud on their fingers. His feet had thick skin so he could run across fields and bushes, unlike other men who wore the skins of animals on their feet.
The soldier stood up when his lantern flame went out. He ran for Hunter, sword above his head in one hand, screaming the scream men scream. Hunter hissed louder than the man and belched then jumped and was already on a tree-branch where the man could not swing. Then the wolves came. They collapsed the man and tore his arm so that he could not hold a sword then they fell back and ran circles around him, stopping only to growl. Hunter came down on the man's chest and the man coughed blood.
The man weezed and looked to the sky. Hunter held a bone and plunged it in the man's eye. The man found his voice but so again it was gone in a few moments. The wolves began to bite and gnaw on the man but Hunter barked at them until they stopped. They walked slowly away to go around the hill where it's not so steep and easy to climb back to the cave and bushes, but lights appeared in front of them. It was more men.
They carried torches and spears and pitchforks. They wore thick wool coats and some had steel on top. No one ran, but the gang of men stepped closer. Hunter yelled at his pack, from the bottom of his gut, yelled like no man could but they only stepped back and came back to him.
The men held their spears at the ready as one of them approached with a hand in front, speaking slow but loud. Hunter dropped the bone from his hand and ran at the man. He jumped and kicked with his knee. And when he came down to the ground the man's head was stuck to his knee and his face was flat and bloody. Other men ran with their sharp spears and the wolves ran to either side and up the hills into the trees while men threw their spears at them. Hunter now only howled and when only Tisa was left of the wolves and weeping, he turned to run too.
Hunter grabbed Tisa and jumped but stopped and fell down with a pain in his back and four tickles through his ribs.
For the first time Hunter could not scream. Hunter dragged his leg hard across the ground with bushes and rocks bloodying his foot until a rock hit the man with the pitch-fork in the head and the pitch-fork came loose.
He picked up Tisa over his shoulder and ran for a cliff edge and jumped with shouting and thrown rocks behind him. Hunter felt the pain in his back again and saw that he fell into a pool of water and it was muddier because of him. He heard Tisa cry and saw her paddle to him. For a minute there were lights from above, but they went away.
Since then Hunter never saw any men and they never saw him, but Hunter could only crawl and weeze.
He lived off of roots and mushrooms and whatever Tisa brought to him. The pack ran but he could not catch them, only Tisa stayed. He never made it back to the cave and never burned a fire again but he swore to outlive the ilk of men and when they all burn and cut each other, let the forest reclaim where they put their cottages. Hunter always crawls in Azuga's woods. He cannot run or climb now, but he is unseen in grass and mud and jumps like a snake when he sees something in front of him.
END I will continue to try and piece together the first part of the text and little bits and details, sometimes whole phrases I couldn't get right now, but this was a rough translation and re-composition of what I found.
To my knowledge, the old hag in the woods is the only character that is simmilar to known folk tales.
For now, I will keep reading and looking into clues. The parts of this book I can best understand are re-tellings of well-known battles and bits of history, but right now I'm focused of stories. Most of them have to do with the forests of Transilvania and the lives of farmers, so I will do my best to find a well-told or untold narrative that I can translate and interpret.
In the meanwhile I would love to know if any readers know a simillar story from elsewhere, if they enjoyed this effort of mine.
My eyes have been constantly darting from the screen to my notes and back again so errors are bound to appear, but in time I will weed them out and even publish revisions to previous interpretations of a story to rebuild it completely.

2014.09.06 12:20 LouieKablooie "x" Update!

Good work and suggestions /rva. I reached out to a radio station and got some studio time so I'll have access to some good equipmunk and a forum to broadcast. This will help with the digital upload platform and with exposure as this will be the contributing factor to getting interesting guests, Meade Skelton isn't going to come on the podcast if the show only has 12 subscribers, am i right?
So I can either do in studio interviews or record on location and play at the station which sounds ideal. So I still need equipment, yarbles and kickingpplisfun I might take you up on those mics and determine production quality.
Really like the concept of a crowdsourced Q&A part of the podcast too so let's keep that in mind.
To all the people who reached out offering assistance. I'll enlist that help, for sure. This show isn't about me, so any means to get the best info and entertainment on the show is the goal at this point.
What should this show be called? I have some ideas but it's wide open.
Meade can you record an intro song for me? Or one of the DJ's on here can you make a cool intro that won't be as racist as Meade's will be?
I called my buddy Max from Max's Positive Vibe Cafe, he has had a pretty interesting life and agreed to let me record him in the next 2 weeks. But will need to line some other interviews up ASAP. So if you have access to interesting people, let me know and I'll reach out, schedule and start recording.
Updated List Below.
