2024.05.21 15:11 legitfunwriting [M4F] Congratulations Space Colonist! You Have Been Matched with a Mate!

The twin suns of the alien planet were high in the sky outside your window. Birds with four wings chirped and flitted between shoulder high blades of purple grass. Outside your kitchen window a brook babbled quietly between enormous trees twice the size of the giant sequoias of Earth. In the distance you could hear a few of your fellow colonists chatting cheerily. The BUZZ of your communicator interrupted the moment. It read:
Congratulations! The Colonial Supercomputer has located a suitable mate for you. He will arrive in fourteen (14) standard days. His information is as follows:
Category Specifications
Name Dr. Paul Stevens
Age 29
Education PhDs in Astronomy, Astrometrics, and Physics
Height 6'6
Weight 195
Flaccid Length 6.9''
Average Seminal Emission (Volume) testing error
Average Seminal Emission (Frequency) 3.2 Per Standard Rotation
Paul enjoys nature, good food, a good book, and everything to do with the stars. Please prepare for your mate's arrival. Contact the Colonial Authority if you have any questions.
A picture of a ruggedly handsome man with wavy, dirty blond hair, green eyes, and just a bit of stubble followed the message. His eyes were warm and friendly, as was his soft smile.
Aboard the colonial transport starship, Ares, Paul and a few hundred other male colonists had woken from cryosleep just a few weeks ago. It had taken Paul a few days to adjust, but the anti-atrophy system that had been developed a few years ago was really working wonders. He felt stronger than ever. He was playing Spaceball with his friends in the gym when he got the notification.
"Here! Pass!" His friend Tom shouted. Paul threw him the ball. Tom dodged by one opponent, turned as he was blocked by another, and then through the ball back to Paul who was now in full sprint. Paul caught the ball in midair and immediately threw it at full speed toward the goal. The BUZZ of the goal sounded almost at the same time as Paul's communicator. Paul wiped sweat from his forehead as he high fived Tom and looked down at his communicator. His heart skipped three beats. He had been matched. His heart pounded more and more as he read your profile. His jaw visibly dropped when he got to your photo.
"Hey man! What's up?" Mark, another friend, walked up to Paul and clapped him on the back as he looked over Paul's shoulder. He immediate saw what was 'up' and he let out a dramatic. "Damn... son! Good for you!"
The rest of the guys ran up to peep over Paul's shoulder. Various comments filtered through. "She is fucking gorgeous," "Holy fucking shit dude," and "You lucky bastard," were some of them.
Finally the guys got back to the game, but Paul's mind never left the profile on his phone or the photo. His head was in the clouds and amongst the stars the rest of the day as he showered after the game, ate dinner, and worked half-heartedly on his usually consuming research.
Paul and the other three guys that he shared quarters with finally went to bed. He took one more glance at your profile as the lights went out and he tucked himself into his twin-sized bunk cut out from the wall. He drifted off peacefully to sleep to the gentle hum of the engines. He dreamed of the woman in his match message, his future mate. At around 2:00 a.m., the bulge between his legs swelled as he dreamed. The soft fabric of his pajama pants shifted and rose, and rose, and rose... Soon his bedsheets were a mountain in the darkness of the bed quarters. And Paul dreamed even more vividly of his mate. The bulging mountain tensed and shuddered visibly. And then again. And again even more powerfully. A moment later, wetness soaked his pajama bottoms and then the bedsheets over them. The wetness flowed and spread. More, and more and more, until it oozed to cover a large portion of the lower half of the bed. As it finished, the outline of a raging hard penis was clearly shown by the soaked bedsheet and pajamas that clung to it so tightly the thick veins would have been visible if there were a little more light in the dark room. Paul simply smiled in his sleep and rolled over. He would have to change, shower, and wash his sheets in the morning. He would also have to endure some playful teasing from his roommates. But Paul was the happiest man in the universe.
Two weeks later.
It was another beautiful day on the alien planet. It was the day Paul and the other male passengers of the Ares arrived. Paul waved goodbye to his friends as he followed the map on his datapad to your home. He passed an elk like creature with antlers almost the size of its body that was grazing between the huge trees. Paul's jaw almost never left the grown as his eyes passed from one alien wonder to the next. Finally he arrived outside your front door, his heart racing. He knocked twice. His deep voice followed. "Hello. It's Paul, Paul Stevens."
Hello! I thought it would be fun to set a smutty, romantic romp on an alien world.
I was also toying with the idea of our characters being somehow genetically enhanced to make them sexy as fuck, which explains Paul's absurd statistics early in the prompt. I am happy to discuss that though. Perhaps they are just hot from centuries of natural selection. Perhaps they were engineered from birth to be perfect space colonists, or perhaps they were given genetic treatment while in cryostasis on the journey, or we can totally ignore the issue and just have them be hot for hotness sake! I do like the idea of our characters being very attractive though. I also have to say I am a HUGE fan of big boobs and big booties.
I know I wrote your part in second person, and mine in third person. I am happy to write my character in either first or third person. I am also happy to write the parts of third party characters that flit in and out of our story, and I would be happy if you also share the burden!
Another idea that might be fun to explore is if additional "mates" are added to our "family" at some point. Not sure on this, happy to hear your thoughts if you are interested.
Some other kinks and interests that may work for the story: detailed writing, creative writing partners, fit characters, big tits, big butts, big cock, lots of cum, passionate fucking, outdoor sex, group sex (when it fits the story), voyeurism, exhibitionism, playful competition and comparison, and I am sure much more!
Limits: noncon, violence, poop, animals, underage, anything else gross or illegal.
Let me know your ideas, or feel free to just jump write in where I left off and answer the door!
I prefer to write by PM, by chat and discord also work. Hope to hear from you soon!

New Luba H 10000 won't charge
Help please. I bought 2 NEW luba H 10000. One works just fine. The 2nd one I can't get to charge. We made sure it was level and and put the Luba that did set up and working on the charger for the Luba that won't charge and it charges, the green light blinks. When I put the Luba that won't charge back on the same charger, it still doesn't charge. We tried the opposite and put the Luba that won't charge on the charger that charges for the other Luba and it won't charge, the green light doesn't blink. I've turned off the power brick, powered down and removed the key and nothing. Just sent feedback to Mammotion Please advise.

2024.05.21 09:06 vviintersoldier Jabra elite 3 blinking white

My left AirPod doesn’t work and only blinks a tiny white light when I try to press it or do anything with it. I’ve tried charging it and leaving it in the case for a while but nothing seems to work. It has happened once or twice that it has blinked green or red for a split second, then goes right back to white. Don’t know what to do about it.
Edit: I banged it really hard on my table and now it works. But it goes back to blinking when i put it back into the case.

2024.05.21 07:57 mencho14 Fell in love

The ocean has always been my solace. As a marine biologist, I’ve spent countless hours diving into its depths, cataloging its wonders, and marveling at its mysteries. But nothing could have prepared me for the day I met her.
It started like any other dive. The water was a crystalline blue, teeming with life. I was deep in the coral reefs off the coast of the Maldives, studying the effects of climate change on marine biodiversity. My equipment hummed gently, and the rhythmic sound of my breathing through the regulator was a comforting constant.
I was documenting a particularly vibrant section of the reef when I noticed something unusual. A flash of iridescent green and blue darted behind a large rock formation. Curiosity piqued, I swam closer. At first, I thought it was a trick of the light, perhaps a large fish or a stray piece of seaweed. But then I saw her.
She was breathtaking. Long, flowing hair the color of the ocean at dawn framed a face that seemed almost ethereal. Her eyes, deep and sparkling, locked onto mine with an intensity that made my heart race. And her tail – a magnificent, shimmering tail – flicked gracefully in the water, sending ripples through the reef.
I blinked, certain I was hallucinating. But she remained, watching me with an expression that was both curious and wary. Slowly, I reached out a hand, unsure of what to do or say. To my amazement, she mirrored my gesture, her slender fingers grazing mine through the water. A jolt of electricity shot through me at the contact.
For what felt like an eternity, we stayed like that, suspended in the water, two beings from different worlds connecting in a way I’d never thought possible. Finally, she broke the silence, her voice a soft melody that echoed in my ears even through the water.
“My name is Lyria,” she said, her gaze never wavering.
“I’m Alex,” I managed to reply, my voice trembling with awe.
Over the next few weeks, we met often. I would dive at the same spot, and she would be there, waiting. We communicated through gestures, expressions, and the occasional word. I learned about her world – a hidden kingdom beneath the waves, where mermaids lived in harmony with the ocean’s creatures. And she learned about mine – the surface world, with its cities, technology, and endless skies.
As the days passed, our bond deepened. I found myself looking forward to our meetings more than anything else. I told her about my research, my dreams, and my fears. She listened with an intensity that made me feel truly seen for the first time in my life. In return, she shared stories of her people, their legends, and their ways.
One evening, as the sun set in a blaze of orange and pink, casting golden rays through the water, I realized I had fallen in love with her. The thought terrified me. How could a scientist and a mermaid ever be together? Our worlds were so different, and the obstacles seemed insurmountable.
But love, I learned, is a force more powerful than reason. One night, as we floated beneath the starlit sky, I confessed my feelings. “Lyria, I don’t know how this could ever work, but I love you.”
She smiled, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “I love you too, Alex.”
In that moment, everything seemed possible. We made a pact to find a way to be together, no matter the challenges. Our love, born in the depths of the ocean, would find a way to bridge the gap between our worlds.
And so, our journey began – a tale of two hearts, one from the land and one from the sea, united by a love that defied the boundaries of science and magic.

2024.05.21 07:30 HelpMeGoCoax Help with troubleshooting goCoax MoCA/Ethernet Adapters

I'm trying to get network/internet access from my home to my (disconnected from the house) garage, and from what I've read, MoCA is the way to go since I already have coaxial cabling between them and my home router's WiFi does not reach to my garage very well.
I'm on my second pair of MoCA adapters, as I couldn't get the Hitron HT-EM4s to work, so I am now trying to get the GoCoax adapters to work. Here is my configuration at the moment: Modem > Home router > GoCoax adapter > coaxial cabling > GoCoax adapter (in my garage) > MacBook (with a USB C ethernet adapter if this matters).
I plan on setting up an access point in place of my MacBook but I figured I should try to get it working on my MacBook first. Anyway, both adapters are plugged in, and the MoCA lights are on on both adapters, but I'm unable to get any sort of internet or access my router's configuration page or anything like that.
I was able to log on to the transmitting adapter's (the one plugged directly into my router) configuration page and give it a static IP address, 192.168.0.2 as my router's IP is 192.168.0.1. I'm not sure if this step was even necessary? I don't intend to enable encryption or anything. I also haven't been able to access the receiving adapter's (the one in my garage) configuration page. Do I need to set an IP for that one, too?
Also should I be putting the IP address of my router in the "Gateway" setting in the device settings for each adapter? The tutorials I've seen seem to just leave that at 0.0.0.0.
The main thing I'm wondering about now is whether the green MoCA light means I am good to go, or if there could be some splitter in the path or something like that that is causing issues. The manual says the light means "MoCA connection is up." but doesn't elaborate on what that actually means...
Thank you in advance for any help/tips on this

2024.05.21 06:47 No_Marzipan_1230 Industrial Mage: Modernizing A Magical World - Chapter 02 – The Blight

Synopsis:
An engineer in another world—blending science and magic to achieve greatness in a world where skills and levels reign supreme.

Ethan was just a plain old engineer, but everything changed when he was reborn into a world of skills, levels, and magic. With his advanced knowledge far ahead of the time period he finds himself in, this new reincarnated life will be much different than his last, especially because he can construct, deconstruct, and reconstruct runes—something no one else can do.
But with royal politics, looming tax collectors, a mountain of debt, dungeon incursions, cults, and hostile fantasy races mixing together into a cocktail of bullshit that threatens to bury his dreams; Ethan must bridge the gap between steel and sorcery to grow stronger.
First < Previous Next >

Chapter 02

-1-
Roland cursed under his breath as he trudged down the muddy path toward Lord Theodore's manor. The late early morning sun cast long shadows, painting the desolate landscape in an even bleaker light.
Why was it only him who had to deal with Lord Theodore's bullshit? Just last night, Roland had to take care of all the complaints from the bar he'd found Lord Theodore at. Not to mention, he had to pay compensation to the wenches from his own personal funds.
And that wasn't even half the things he'd done yesterday alone.
After all, Lord Theodore was either busy abusing his power and bullying the people of the town, gambling, drinking, getting wasted with his face stuck up a prostitute, or doing his fourth favorite activity which, naturally, was a combination of the latter three. The man wasn't the brightest, but he wasn't quite dumb enough to avoid dealing with the problems the town of Holden faced.
Roland shook his head when he made it to the estate gates. As expected, there were guards, servants, and soldiers dashing left and right, but he was ignored. It was time to beg Lord Theodore to attend to his duties. None dared stop him, for he was a [Knight] appointed to Lord Theodore by his father—Lord Alexander Lockheart—and an acting advisor while said lord was being, well, his usual idiotic and selfish self.
So, Roland did what he had to; he moved past them all, and made for Lord Theodore's sleeping quarters where a handful of maids were all fussing about like hens with their heads chopped off.
Lord Theodore's quarters were not large by noble standards, but impressive all the same. Lavish and gaudy, just as he expected. Tapestries and drapes were hung up high all about the walls, and on the ground, there were expensive fur carpets.
After moving past the maids and butlers who were currently shuffling about like a horde of ants whose nest was threatened by a boar, he stopped before a silk drape that barred the way to Lord Theodore's bedchambers.
"Lord Theodore," he called.
Silence.
"Lord Theodore?"
Nothing.
Feeling a little annoyed, Roland frowned. "Lord Theodore," he called again. "With all due respect, are you presently attired?"
Nothing but a muffled sound came from the other side. Roland grimaced, and looked up at the ceiling in exasperation before dropping his hand and tugging the curtain aside. The inside of the bedchamber wasn't much to look at. Just your average nobleman's bedroom with a canopy bed big enough to fit twelve women side-by-side.
Most did, in fact, do just that.
A bookshelf stood on each wall, and at the far end was another drape that led to an enclosed balcony where he had the gall to throw his used clothes through during summer.
"Greetings, my lord," Roland said.
Lord Theodore, however, didn't answer.
He sat in front of a full-length mirror on the dresser. He had this listless sort of look, like he just didn't know how to deal with things. It wasn't an expression he'd ever seen on the man's face.
"Lord Theodore, are you well?" Roland inquired, a sliver of unease creeping into his voice. Though he found the young lord childish—given he was barely eighteen years old—Lord Theodore was his responsibility. He'd been Roland's responsibility when he was a little brat, and even now.
Theodore gave a startled response. "Ah, Roland? Yes, I am quite well."
"My lord, with all due respect, I implore you to be truthful. Has something transpired?"
Roland was anxious now. While he harbored no particular fondness for Lord Theodore, a sworn oath bound him to protect and care for the Baron. Granted, his master, Lord Theodore's own father, had afforded him considerable autonomy within Holden's borders—heck, he could even go as far as beating up Lord Theodore without consequences, if Roland deemed it reasonable and necessary—but his code of honor held oaths sacred. The son of the house Varian would rather lose an arm and his birthright than break a single [Oath] made.
"No, truly, I'm fine."
"If that is the case," Roland acknowledged with a curt nod, "then I bear news."
Lord Theodore furrowed his brow. "Good news, I trust?"
"I'm afraid not," Roland sighed. "Yesterday, our patrol in the Deadwoods encountered a band of brigands...…"
Lord Theodore's frown deepened. "While banditry is a common occurrence, it often heralds further troubles. Elaborate, Roland."
"Indeed, my lord," Roland continued, "these brigands weren't merely causing a ruckus. Apparently, they were engaged in combat with a rather formidable creature, vaguely humanoid in form."
Lord Theodore's posture stiffened. "Vaguely humanoid? Can you provide further details?"
Roland shook his head. "Limited information, I'm afraid. Only reports of unnatural speed reached our ears; it appeared to be engaged with wolves. Both fled upon human-contact, however."
Lord Theodore stroked his chin thoughtfully. "Did our men prevail against the brigands? And this creature—surely Captain..." he paused, searching for the man's name.
"Thomas," Roland supplied.
"Ah, yes, Thomas. Holden is geographically close to the Deadwoods. Sir Thomas wouldn't simply abandon such a threat near the bordertowns, would he? He and I may not see eye to eye on certain matters, but... surely he wouldn't leave such a threat unaddressed." Lord Theodore said.
Roland hesitated. "Captain Thomas chose to bypass us and directly inform the Crown of their discovery. He remained tight-lipped regarding specifics despite repeated inquiries."
Lord Theodore hummed thoughtfully. "If Thomas deems it worthy of the Crown's attention, then it surpasses our jurisdiction. Let's hope for their swift and decisive action. What of the brigands? Eliminated, I presume?"
"So it seems," Roland replied. "All but one met their demise. The sole survivor remains in a cell, though maddened beyond reason."
"I see. Is that for now?" Lord Theodore leaned back in his chair.
"Not quite, my lord. We've had a recent outbreak of the Blight, and we suspect it was an intentional spread. Unfortunately, the culprit remains unidentified."
Theodore's expression morphed into one of genuine shock. "Are these two seemingly unrelated issues connected, perhaps?" He asked.
"It appears to be the case, my lord." A sigh escaped Roland's lips. The Blight—a magical sickness that eats away at your life force, causes lethargy, nausea, and kills you, all while your body radiates a pervasive foul odor. It had recently taken hold on a few people of Holden. Why or how, Roland did not know.
"Those afflicted have been quarantined in a secure location far from Holden to prevent further contagion. Our physicians are doing their utmost to manage them. However, several have died already, and the remaining victims exhibit signs of feral behavior—meaning, they have already entered the late stage, I'm afraid. It's become imperative that they remain under quarantine, lest they either bite other humans—given there's hunger for raw flesh in the late stage—or they could infect the crops, causing them to decay. Consequently, the farmers, understandably anxious, have retreated into their homes."
They were likely waiting for their lord, incompetent as he may be, to deal with the situation. Yet, he had his hand up a wench's skirt more than actually trying to fix the issues... What can I do with him? Roland sighed.
Lord Theodore rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Roland."
"Yes, my lord?"
"Do you think the Merchant Guild would let me have another loan?"
Roland's lips thinned into a line, but he shook his head. "Regrettably, my lord, they would not. The Merchants' Guild has been cautious lately. There was this whole unpleasant affair with a prominent [Merchant Lord] named Bertram, you might know the name. Used to flaunt more gold jewelry than some of the highborn nobles. Turns out, he was embezzling.
"Apparently, he manipulated the Guild's books for months. Inflated trade contracts with nonexistent suppliers from faraway lands, siphoned off the extra profit into his own pockets. Clever, gotta give him that. Even forged shipping manifests to keep it all looking legit.
"Nasty business, that. Apparently, the esteemed Lord Bertram decided a little vacation was in order after everything, and wouldn't you know it, he packed a rather hefty sum from the Guild's coffers along for the ride as well. We're talking a near royal-wedding-sized dowry here, my lord. Vanished, all of it.
"The details are still murky, but rumor has it Bertram might have gotten tangled with pirates operating from the Broken Isles. One of the [Pirate Kings], perhaps—or most likely. So, the Merchants' Guild has been refraining from giving out loans. And, my apologies to say this, my lord, but you're a high-risk individual, and you already have quite the debt with them... They wouldn't want to give more."
Lord Theodore already had a mountain of debt on his name... The interest rate was more than what Lord Theodore could pay off even if the crops did better than planned. Given that the Adventurers' Guild of this sector had been rather short on manpower lately due to a dungeon incursion in the town, Corinth, lying beside theirs and given that Lord Theodore had a tendency for tax evasion and then laundering… Yeah, they were royally fucked. Even if in this situation, Lord Theodore wanted a loan for himself... Roland just gave up. Maybe it was time to return to his master, Lord Theodore's father, and just ask him to appoint him somewhere else—he couldn't deal with this scumbag anymore, not in his current state.
"I see, they wouldn't. Not surprising. It seems I'm going to have to hire a [Necromancer] by my lonesome."
Roland blinked. "That's..." a shock, Roland stopped himself from saying. [Necromancers] cost a hefty sum, and given that Lord Theodore was already under debt and likely the financial situation of Holden was anything but optimal, hiring a [Necromancer] would've put a huge dent in Holden's already meager reserves. However, Roland hadn't imagined, not in his wildest dreams, that Lord Theodore would be employing one by his lonesome.
Throughout his life, Roland had known this man to not even spare a thought to anything that wasn't his immediate self-gratification, or his amusement and satisfaction. How was the wastrel noble suddenly going to change?
"My lord, my apologies for asking, but why do you require a [Necromancer's] assistance?" Roland finally asked, schooling his shocked expression.
"Oh, I have some... theories regarding the Blight." Lord Theodore grinned. "And a [Necromancer] might just be someone who we need in order to solve this problem once and for all."
Roland was shocked to his core, once more. "But, my lord, the treatment for the Blight isn't something common folk can afford? So, how...?"
"Nonsense, Roland. Forget that rudimentary concoction they peddle as a cure. I envision a more... permanent solution. Issue a commission at the Adventurers' Guild—a [Necromancer] or perhaps a [Witch], their talents are equally suited for this task."
"Yes, my lord." Roland bowed, failing to comprehend what Lord Theodore was planning on doing.
-2-
When Roland left, Ethan found it easier to relax. The stiff, aristocratic manners these people employed were rather annoying to bear with. No, they were rather hard to imitate, more accurately. Because despite his efforts, he'd still found it hard to match their ways, but it was doable. Not good enough, yet, but doable.
"How should I, going forward, act, then?" he muttered. "Because if I've understood a single thing, it is this: Theo's character as I know it now will ruin any chance of me, well, earning anything, be that respect, wealth, power, or all three. Should I continue as him, then, or completely overhaul Theodore's character and pretend it's some epiphany? A spiritual enlightenment, perhaps?"
Ethan shook his head. Whatever it may be, he wasn't planning on being like Theo. Let's go with a gradual change in mannerism.
First, however, he needed to deal with the Blight issue. Which would be easily dealt with—all he had to do was pay the [Necromancer], or [Witch], from his own pouch. Then, he needed to figure out this town's financial status and everything else in order to organize a working infrastructure and create new financial opportunities. Afterwards, he could move onto his 'character', if that is indeed what his situation required. There's a lot to do.
Before everything, however, a bath.
After all, he reeked of sweat and alcohol, among other not-so pleasant scents.
...
It took no more than a few minutes for a handful of servants to prepare the bath. Hot water steamed inside the spacious tub as soap bubbles glistened—soap that was far too expensive for the common folk. Despite being a luxury, its quality was arguably trash. Regardless, this was all the people had in this world. A strong scent of lavender permeated the air and tickled his nose as he undressed. A few maids had prepared for his comfort and placed a silken bathrobe alongside a set of towels on a small table near the bathtub before he'd dismissed them, ordering them to inform the kitchen staff that he would like his meal soon.
Ethan relaxed his shoulders, took the robe with one hand, and tossed it carelessly nearby. It was fine silk. Ethan shook his head before proceeding with an easy grace into the water. It was hot. Yet, Ethan felt rather cold, despite the heat. It helped him relax, and with it, the stiff persona that was Lord Theodore faded.
Ethan sank deeper, letting his long blond locks loose. A quick thought made him bring his hand forward. What if... he could make a fire? Just a little one, like a candle flame. How cool would that be? He focused, willing a tiny spark to appear on his fingertip. Nothing. Just a sputter and a fizzle.
"Hmm," he mumbled, undeterred. "Maybe I need to practice."
He doubted it was just understanding. After all, the skill [Elemental Spells] had given him the barest hints of the basics of how to create a basic spark of flame. He lacked control over mana. [Magic Perception] allowed him to view his mana—flowing, fast-moving streams and spiraling, coiling vortexes. It was chaotic; it was a mess! Maybe if he calmed it down, he could actually make something happen?
Easier said than done, he quickly learned. When he moved it, it took no less effort than bending metal with brute force. The feeling was there, and the will, too. Just the act of 'moving' it alone was a herculean effort. It seemed nigh impossible.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong?
Humming, Ethan looked through the snippets of memories he'd gotten from Theodore. The memories, he found, weren't entirely useless; as his mind drifted back and forth from those flashes, he did remember something Theodore had seen last night... There! A memory from last night—a drunk mage at the bar, showing off with a fireball for some girl who didn't seem too impressed.
"Let's see how that trick works," Ethan grinned.
With [Magic Perception], he saw how the spell flowed. The "spell" was, in a way, forced outwards into reality through the use of symbols he quickly recognized as runes—at least that was what he assumed after seeing the fireball.
Ethan could easily recall the shape of the rune that'd appeared before the fire took form on top of the mage's hand.
I'm pretty sure it's not possible to view runes. I assume, at least, from what little fragments of memories I got from Theo. Anyway, let's move my mana in the shape, then.
He imagined the shape on top of his hand and willed the mana to pour into it. Soon, rune motes started forming out of thin air, ripping into reality. Forming into a shape he willed, a rune burned brightly and loudly atop his palm. As he drew his hand forward, flames burst into life, flickering before fizzling out.
[Basic Magic Script] — Lvl 1 -> Lvl 2!
Congratulations! You have gained skill: [Basic Rune Creation]!
"Whoa." Ethan stared at his hand, a wide grin splitting his face. So that's how it works! Runes, huh? That's awesome! Ethan felt like a child again. He couldn't wait to try again, this time with a smaller flame, as it appeared that a fireball was far too much for his lacking skill and control. Magic... it was epic stuff!
Before that, however, he looked at the new skill he'd gained.
~Basic Rune Creation – Level 1~
Type: Active
Effect: You have grasped the fundamental concept of using runes to channel and shape your mana for basic magical effects. The Connection between two of your skill—[Magic Perception] and [Basic Magic Script]—has resulted in the creation of a new skill. You can now create simple runes that allow for the manipulation of elemental energy on a small scale. As your skill level increases, you will be able to create more complex runes, allowing for more powerful and versatile spells. You may also learn to combine runes for even greater magical effects.
Ethan stared. Reading the description was a quick matter of concentration. It took him by surprise, however, when he realized it. Rune creation? Huh. Does that mean I can create anything? The thought alone was exciting. What about rune motes? Rune motes were fragments of runes, combining certain fragments could result in a full rune. I saw them congregating into the shape of a rune, but is it possible to just create rune motes and not a full rune? I should try.
Regardless of his thoughts, it was creation—
—and Ethan loved creation. Even as a child, he had never gotten tired of tinkering with things. He still recalled the time he'd gotten his first Lego set. Just putting random pieces together with no thought for a bigger picture—he'd loved that. He'd loved doing all sorts of stuff with Legos, creating different castles or other complex structures, but it was building something completely random and ridiculous, yet unique nonetheless, which gave him the most sense of satisfaction. It was fun. It was a hobby—a hobby that ignited in him a fire of passion for innovation.
It was then the thought of being a civil engineer had sprung up in his mind. To put it simply, a civil engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and constructing buildings. Though, that was just a general term. Ethan would have been perfectly happy had he chosen that. Unfortunately, his father had wanted him to become a boxer, instead.
The man wanted to become one himself in his prime, but due to health issues, he'd quit right before making it to a big league. He'd hoped his son would achieve what he couldn't and bring victory for the family. Even though Ethan hadn't exactly planned boxing as his future, but who could refuse the pressure his old man put on him? Especially when he'd been just a little boy?
It was another matter entirely that Ethan fell in love with boxing, too, as it made him feel alive. The sensation of a punching bag slamming against his fists? Nothing quite made his blood boil like that.
And oh, fighting in the ring. There was just something about the sport Ethan couldn't resist.
Something about creation, fighting, and experiencing a bit of both, had Ethan wishing he could try the other options that lay in front of him now.
Could he make a real spaceship, in this world?
It sounded silly as fuck and he knew it. Nonetheless, the temptation was still there, hovering and nagging at the edge of his mind, as ridiculous as his previous thoughts might have been.
Spaceships are cool, dammit.
That thought suddenly gave Ethan pause. "Let's just return to practice."
This time, fire flickered atop his fingertips for a second longer.
Another second was added on top of that after his third try.
The light was dim. However, it did mean something: improvement.
[Elemental Spells] — Lvl 1 -> Lvl 2!
Grinning like an idiot, Ethan sank deeper into the hot bath water and brought his other hand up to repeat the exercise for the next half an hour or so, occasionally reading a notification that would come every now and then.
[Elemental Spells] — Lvl 2 -> Lvl 3!
[Elemental Spells] — Lvl 3 -> Lvl 4!
[Elemental Spells] — Lvl 4 -> Lvl 5!
But no matter what, he couldn't get it to level up to level 6, nor could he level up [Basic Magic Script] from level 2 to 3.
Why not, though? I'm doing—
"Don't rush," he chided himself. "Your control is pitiful, shaping is trash, and your spellcasting is akin to tossing stones into the sea without even knowing how to make it bounce—guesswork is all you are, but it's a good start, I suppose."
As he set a handful of candle-like flames afloat on all five of his fingers, his lips quirked into a wide smirk. It was only a party trick. For now, that is. I need to find more about magic and learn. I've been winging it.
That was true; he didn't understand anything about magic. All he'd done so far was try to emulate the rune he'd seen in the memory snippet through the help of [Magic Perception] and cast a few party tricks. Was that impressive? He had literally no comparison to base off of, thus why he knew he needed to learn more.
Theodore's memories proved to be useless in this regard, too. His father hadn't found him worthy enough to be assigned a mage as a tutor. Theodore was a disappointment through and through, and that's why he'd been sent to rule the bordertowns.
He could cast the spell, yes, but he didn't understand the underlying concepts that fueled the magic or what the process was.
-3-
Ethan descended down the stairs that would lead him to the dining room where breakfast had already been laid out for him. Two maids were present as well. It was a feast of the likes he'd only ever read in fairy tales. Fried, scrambled, boiled eggs. Different shapes, sizes, and cuts. Cakes and pies in varying quantities and sizes. Grilled meat, smoked and salted. How could he ever eat everything alone?
Ethan exhaled and then dove in; however, he still maintained decorum as it was imperative to do so given that he was a noble now. Regardless, once done, he made it to the meeting room given that he had some people to meet today.
"Barely breaking even," Ethan muttered, flicking the parchment in his hand. He frowned at the financial situation of Holden, the town he was in charge of. The bordertowns consisted of a series of towns lying on the periphery of the borders. Each town was a barony in name, and nobles—especially troublesome nobles—were often sent here to practice ruling and to make them accustomed to how the common folk lived, so they could empathize with the people they ruled.
With how many bandits the region had had lately, the Blight, debt, tax, and interest that'd ramped up, Ethan's current situation was mind-fucking at best and a keg waiting to explode at worst.
I don't want to deal with Theo's issues.
Not only was this whole situation something Ethan did not want in the slightest, a whole can of worms that were Theo's problems was thrust into his hands. Ethan had held no fantasies of getting isekai'd. That was suicide in his books. He'd have been more than happy to die and meet oblivion. But now that he was here…
Leaning back into his chair, Ethan rubbed his eyes. Yeah, he needed to deal with everything and make the best of his situation to live a comfortable life. When Roland returned with a man in tow, Ethan hummed.
The man was young, younger than Roland, even. Black hair and sharp green eyes. He held himself high with confidence and Ethan recognized him instantly. Isn't he that mage from the bar?
"My lord," Roland bowed. "I have brought a [Necromancer] as per your command."
The [Necromancer] bowed and with a thin smile said, "Pleased to be at your service, my lord. The name's Jack."
Hm. So he wasn't a mage but a [Necromancer].
"Likewise," Ethan replied with a nod, then leaned forward, smiling. "Say, Jack, would you like to be part of a business opportunity?

2024.05.21 06:46 Boozies Low-Power Indicator Red Light Not Coming On

I'll try to keep this short and simple. My DS Lite works perfectly fine. The battery capacity is (to my knowledge) fine for its age. When the battery is sufficiently charged (30%+) the green power indicator light is present. When the battery runs low (below 30%) there is no red indicator light. DS will still run fine, I just don't have the red low-power warning light. Also, the orange charging light works fine.
I have two questions:
1) What's the most likely cause of this? Dead red LED? Dead fuse? Loose wiring? (I reshelled the DS Lite recently, and that's about as far as knowledge of the inner workings of the DS goes)
2) Is there any chance this issue will cause other powesystem issues down the line or is it "harmless"? If it's just a missing low-power indicator that will do no harm to the rest of the system, I'm okay skipping out on the effort of fixing it.
Thanks ahead of time for the help!
Again, my system performs just fine. I just don't have the red indicator light when I get to lower power ranges. Probably the best case scenario when it comes to poweindicator issues.

2024.05.21 05:16 Zimm42 40v 6ah (OP40602) unusual error/malfunction

I have a 6ah 40v battery (model OP40602) that is doing something that seems unusual. I have scoured the internet and can't quite find anyone with the same issue. Symptoms:
  1. When I put the battery on the charger, the red light glows for about 90 seconds to 2 minutes and then it eventually flips to the red/green blinking error light.
  2. I have tried the reset procedure, connecting the ground pin and rst pin. I have tried this briefly, for over 30 seconds, and also pushing the 'test' button while resetting. None of this seems to make any difference.
  3. When I put a multimeter on the + terminal and direct to the B- point on the board, I get about 34 volts. I am using the method in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsTzTSlAuqs&list=WL&index=5) to try to bring it up to 40 volts right now... it seems to be taking charge, and I am up to about 37 volts. Test light shows 2 squares now instead of 1.
I assume that I must have some other issue with the circuit board that I probably can't fix? Or is there some other approach I should be taking?

2024.05.21 04:15 Visible_Chair_473 [GBA/DS/DSi][2006-2012~] 2D 32-bit side scrolling game where you interchange between robots/creatures such as a slimmer form having a whip to cross obstacles, another being more blocky and slow, and possibly one more, but all being one playable character

Platforms: Game Boy Advanced/DS/DSi
Genre: Action, sidescroller, robot/mech/creature(?)
Estimated year of release: 2006-2012 (roughly)
Graphics/art style: 2D/pixelated side scroller. Very grey besides main character. The closest game style I can think of is Mega Man ZX in character size and pixel style, but the character's designs themselves don't look similar. The game felt made for an older audience, as in not a game like Kid Chameleon that has a "cuter" artstyle? Kind of hard to explain but it didn't have that kind of look to it
Screenshot from Mega Man ZX. Very similar looking but the main character from my game isn't as vibrant and the background was much flatter and less dynamic
Notable characters: a main character (almost positive NOT a human or not seeable as one) that has possibly three forms that changes I believe through item pickup maybe? One form that was slimmer in design had a whip/tendril for going over obstacles, another one was clunkier and more square, can't remember the rest (I at least believe there were three). I swear the colors were like light pink, green, and possibly blue? A game called Metal Mutant has a VERY similar character function as to how I remember the character in my game, I had to check and see if there was another in the series on handheld because it fits really close to my description. If Metal Mutant looked a lot more like Mega Man ZX in scale and sprite size and released past 2006 it would be the game I'm thinking of which is very confusing
Character from Metal Mutant. Besides the Dino variation, the other two are incredibly similar to my memory of the character from my game
Notable gameplay mechanics: Character that changes between different types depending on needed situation, such as a whip for obstacles, or a tankier body for needed defense. I can't remember a single enemy which is annoying, but I still believe it was somewhat of an action game like the Mega Man series (don't think its that franchise tho, not from what I could find)
Other details (IMPORTANT): Is not these previously guessed titles: A Boy and his Blob / Metal Mutant (VERY similar tho) / Castlevania III / Monster Tale DS / Shantae series / Kid Chameleon / Gunstar Super Heroes / Robots for GBA / Mega Man ZX or Advent / Act-Fancer: Cybernetick Hyper Weapon / Metroid Fusion / Oddworld series / Trine
This is game is so fuzzy in my memory and has always been one I've wanted to remember but just can't rack my brain on it man. I can't remember which platform I had it on specifically but it was a handheld Nintendo game for sure. I don't remember either whether the main character was a creature or a robot, just that it would change in design and function between possibly three different iterations. Really wondering if this may be a lost cause...but we'll see lol

2024.05.21 03:05 MoanLart Interesting lights in the sky in Hawaii last night

Interesting lights in the sky in Hawaii last night
⚠️ IGNORE THE GREEN LENS FLARE IN THE FIRST TWO SECONDS ⚠️
So I was at KONA airport last night getting ready to head back home.. and saw some interesting lights that caught my eye. I understand being at an airport, one might think “oh.. well, obviously it’s a plane”, but to me it wasn’t moving how a plane does, and the pattern in which the lights were blinking seemed different from what I’m used to seeing. I did think “hey, maybe it’s just the tail of an airplane that just landed blinking like that”, but the lights seemed far and high up. Like.. 200-300 ft in the sky if I had to guess.
Any ideas on what it could be? Something prosaic? Something not so easy to explain?

2024.05.21 03:00 CrescoSlabz I have a 2010 Honda Civic LX. Everything was working just fine until now when my check engine light turned on, the display showing how fast I’m going is stuck at 0 mph, and the green light by the driving gear is blinking. I’m assuming it’s some sort of transmission error…

What seems to be the issue & approximately how much will this cost? Ugh I really dont need this right now…

2024.05.21 02:29 Ok_Coconut_2560 Noodles

My family has always been of great minds. I hated it. Growing up and having to study day and night to try and live up to them was extremely exhausting when I couldn't care how things worked as long as I was happy. I gave up but somehow everything kept turning out to be true.
Over my lifetime I have become the Gorden Ramsey of the science world. Known for my temper and also for huge things like curing world hunger using play-doe and cancer with baby powder I got in a back street ally while drunk.
To get my family off my back I started making random ideas so they could see me as a failure and leave me alone but...they keep working. And soon people started to praise me. Fame has left me with nothing but more and more attention. So today I plan to make sure that everyone can just think I'm insane and leave me alone and not some king.
I chuckled like a kid who was opening a Christmas present as I heard the crowd of people chatting and talking loudly as I hid behind my stage in a grey tight suit that my sister had picked out. I sighed and was ready to walk out and make a fool out of myself but my brother stopped me.
" Jack... I just want you to know how proud I am of you. Dad would have loved to see you right now. "
I thought it was ironic because last night while chilling on the couch watching TV and eating chips I made this theory up. He dusted off my shoulders held them tight and looked me in the eyes taking in the moment.
" go give them hell man. "
He had a goofy smile just like Dad but spoke with confidence.
" you got it, man. "
I heard my name being called onto the stage and the uproar startled me for a second but I collected myself and headed out after giving him a nod just to entertain him.
The lights were blinding as I grabbed the mic and looked at the table in front of me with a small box with the ingredients I needed and a chalkboard behind me.
After I stood still for a minute the crowd died down. I had not told anyone what I was presenting so the whole world was watching without a clue of what I was doing this time.
"Hello everyone. Today I believe I have my most important presentation yet..."
The crowd grew silent and hung on every word. And I heard my voice around the room through the speakers.
" Today I have with me a box...and inside is spaghetti I had for breakfast. "
The crowd laughed thinking it was a joke
" shut up "
The crowd grew silent once more
"Behind me is a chalkboard and I will now present my new findings to all of you...I have found out how to make portals to other worlds. "
A man in the far back of the audience yelled bullshit in a heavy Indian accent but he was so far it was a faint sound for me. I smiled at that thinking I had finally found something that would make me lose my title and I could go ahead and live a life without people making me feel like an evil man for not helping others.
I opened the box got a handful of the noodles and threw them at the chalkboard. I then grabbed a paper towel on standby to clean myself.
The noodles hit the board and slowly moved and rested on a spot on the board. I made eye contact with my brother backstage and he had a look on his face showing he believed in me.
I spun the board dropping the noodles to the ground I then grabbed the chalk and drew around the sauce and noodles that stuck to the board then drew my attention to the others that had fallen on the floor and drew an outline of that.
After it finished I threw the chalk in the crowd violently hitting an old lady in the face.
" Quickly I want a show of hands who thinks I'm a crazy guy "
Everyone raised their hands and I laughed to myself
I then went behind the board and laid it horizontally. I grabbed a small knife in my pocket and poked my finger with it. The crimson blood fell and hit the chalk and then as more and more blood hit the chalk it started glowing.
" you have got to be joking. "
I said out loud as it started to spark an orange glow and it slowly grew color to the rest of the chalk in orange sparks.
Once the symbol was fully sparking with orange the sauce began to swell and move around in a counterclockwise manner. I stepped away from it in shock as small parts of the blood in my finger began to float to the parts where it fell on the floor I drew my outlines on and started sparking those as well.
It started to smoke and hiss as if lightning could whisper and the orange began to take shape and the sauce made a doorway. The parts that were not on the board began to grow ice around them and started to make designs on the floor circling me and the board. Suddenly it grew in size and a large booming voice was heard through the portal as I felt panic of people start to set in.
A huge claw came out and scrapped the sides of my table trying to crawl out from the world it had been trapped in. Cold winds hit me as they cut my skin and threw around my clothes. As I saw the table was now melting from its touch.
A slimy green claw with mucus like a face-hugger egg from the movie Alien carved through the floor and pulled the rest of its body out slowly. A beast stood at 12 feet tall adjusting to our world as goop grew and shaped its body as people screamed, ran, and stood frozen in fear.
As it looked around it locked its spider-like eyes and swerled around coming out from the portal and twisting and turning around the body as it made its way to its head finding a place to rest. It then locked its eyes with me and its jaw twisted slowly from an ant-like maw to mine and slowly shrunk and it soon took the shape of me and knelt on the floor and spoke to me.
" master. "
I stood in shock as everyone seemed to calm down and watched to see what I would do.

"...umm "

Part two of the noodle demon.
Now that this creature knelt before me I realized that the room I was in was so terrible quietly you could hear everyone's ass get tight in anticipation of what would happen next.
" ...what...are you. "
I spoke carefully to the being that had taken the shape of myself. It still took my breath away and my throat was dry.
The beast was a deep green. The color mixed with shades of grey streaming from it. The longer I looked at it I could see it getting closer to what I looked like shaping itself.
From small flowing green tendrils to an arm they grew as they twisted and made bone then muscle and finally skin.
It locked eyes with me and it smiled deeply at me. As it formed the face finally.
" Your vassle. "
My eyes had not moved to the crowd at all but even though the lights hit the stage so hard it was enveloped in smoke.
The creature's eyes glowed as it answered brightly, not figuratively. This thing's eyes were glowing.
"To serve you, We are bound by blood magic. I am a reflection of your desires, Master, " it said, its voice now a whisper in my mind.
It began to stand up as my grey suit began to form on it and by the time it stood fully up it had copied what I looked like.
" let me explain everything. "
My body frozen in fear woke up with adrenaline as I blinked and a flash of green smoke covered my vision as he teleported right to me face to face.
Its body turned to smoke and went into the slits of my eyes. I felt visions follow me in my peripheral vision but surprisingly no pain followed power filled me and it felt like one hell of a drug.
My body and mind altered.
I was now in a very dark place with no walls or light except my reflection on the floor which waved like water.
I took a step back looking around and back to the reflection of me on the ground.
Soon the water rippled and my reflection fell through the floor like gravity was inverted. he flew upright and water fell off of him as he looked at me as he now stood straight ahead of me. He was just reflecting in the water but now eyed me down.
Collecting my nerves.
I begin to speak.
" what do you want..."
He was still in my form and stood perfectly straight. Now with water dripping from his...my hair.
Slight stubble with hair that hung down and my hazel eyes were not present within him but I was greeted with a swelling acidic green that doubled the size of my pupil.
" to serve you. "
He made no other movement than putting his hands behind his back like a soldier at ease.
I could not tell if it was lying or not.
" ...is that it? "
" I am the embodiment of your fear desires and brilliance. You have shaped me. Your desire for solitude birthed me. I will aid you in shaping the world how you see fit. Your reality becomes mine. "
There was a slight echo in the room as he spoke.
" wait...where are we "
I questioned haphazardly
" your mind. "
An awkward silence was in the air until I spoke
" so...am I just standing on the stage not making a sound? "
He gave me a concerned look.
" no...time has frozen outside for you. You may sleep here without having to in the real world so to others you look as if you never rest and you may think and plan what to do in battle here. For them, it will be about two seconds...Do...do you not have any knowledge of what I am? "
Suddenly I felt bad like I had encountered someone famous and I had no idea who they were. A slap in the face like a popular kid meeting someone who had never heard of them. Ego shattered.
" ok sorry no. I...don't go around reading about...monsters?"
I felt like was I saying the n-word of the demon realm not knowing if that word was offensive.
He folded his arms a little upset.
"Are you not a warrior? "
" well...no I...just watch TV and cook here and there- "
The demon cut me off
" weak. "
" excuse me? "
" look. I am an immortal being and after a while you get bored. So I'm sorry if I may be a little upset after being bonded with some nobody. "
I got quiet and I was a little annoyed that I was being roasted by some demon that I just met.
Its form wavers and eyes begin to open on its skin. Cheeks forhead etc.
"After being a god for so long it's fun to play with limitations. Makes things extremely exciting. "
" what do you mean by that? "
" look. You can only be so entertained by the same things. Life gets boring and now...you are going to help me with this. I get to have pure entertainment while you get every wish you could ever want. A mutual bond no? "
He then closed his eyes annoyed and the other eyes meshed back to his skin.
" though... the TV is not that interesting...life is what gets the blood pumping"
I felt the need to quickly change the topic
"Are there others like you? "
The room began to take shape very slowly as the water floor turned to wood and walls went around us.
" of course. You may meet them one day "
Confused and curious I pressed.
"Meet them? "
" yes. Summoning one of us is considered a threat to them. "
He spoke while opening and closing his newly found hand except backward.
" hm...no that don't look right "
I quickly responded
" Wait! How is doing that a threat! "
"Well, one doesn't just accidentally Summon one of us to suddenly get powers beyond human control. "
I thought back to how I summoned him by accident with some food I made.
" well...funny story but I summoned you using my breakfast..."
I had never regretted speaking so much as in that moment.
" What... "
Acid dripped from his words. Literally. His pupils split in half and his bottom jaw ripped open like an ant and curved giving sharpness to the bone.
"Please don't kill me. "
The room began to look like a cozy cabin with a fireplace and he slowly went back to normal.
" I would if I could. I've never felt so disrespected. We are bonded by your blood. If you die...I die. "
Suddenly I felt at ease by this new information.
Then a thought came to my mind
" ...God's can die? "
" you did hear me, right? "
The SAS from this guy was unneeded and I was starting to miss him being on his knees as weird as that sounds.
" so...all that power gone.... in an instant... "
" well...no actually God's powers don't just disappear they transfer to whoever killed them...wait...hold up."
He suddenly had an epiphany.
A smile grew on his face and he grabbed my shoulders
" you! You are going to help me kill the other gods! "
He sounded proud but I let him down.
" ha! No. "
" oh come on! Don't be like that. "
He did a pout.
"Look, man. I'm not killing gods for you. Just because you are bored. "
" hey...they might send people to kill you because you bonded with me. "
"What did I ever do to them? "
"They have a system to this stuff. They like to build and watch things play out. You're a problem. That can mess it up. So...they kill ya...to be honest, I don't know any other way to explain it, man. You know people normally just use my power to kill people and become a king and know this already. "
"This is outrageous. "
" bro. Look if you do this I will be able to get their powers and you will be able to do so much more than what I offer "
I tilted my head
" what can you do? Know what never mind. I will just talk to them and figure things out. "
He groaned and his form melted down sagging and it shot back up reforming
"Is there not anything that you want? Anything in the world? Gods don't put themselves in physical forms. They give people power and can make beings to hunt you. And if they care enough to come down themself. Ha, good luck."
I stopped and thought about it trying to weigh the options of pissing off higher beings.
Suddenly. I found something.
"Can you bring back the dead..."
He stopped confused.
" well...no "
" then I don't want anything "
" wait! "
He threw his arms out pleading
"I don't...but another God does..."
He crosses his arms smiling. He had left the question hanging letting me reconsider his offer.
I stopped and thought for a while before looking back up to him.
I let out a sigh and looked him in the eyes
" ok...you are going to help me get my father back. "
The demon smirked.

2024.05.21 01:42 Swatski Razer Leviathan V2 Speaker + Sub inoperable

I've had this combo for about 12 months and have had no issues until yesterday. I also didn't have the Synapse program installed until yesterday either. Installed Synapse to get additional functionality of my mouse. After installing synapse and restarting my PC, I cannot get the speaker to work.
When I turn it on using the power button, the Input and Power lights are steady green. None of the other buttons work while it's doing this.
When I turn it on using the bluetooth button, the power button illuminates steady green, and the input blinks blue. I'm then able to connect my PC to the bluetooth of the speaker (with the USB-C plugged in or removed), but no sound comes out. If I try to use the volume button on the speakers while it's not making sound like this, it controls the volume of my PC, but still no sound comes out. Sometimes when adjusting the volume via the speaker, the power button turns off, input button turns red, and can't do anything with the speaker without unplugging and plugging back in.
The device is plugged straight into a wall now, initially it was plugged into a power strip.
What i've tried:
Uninstalling Razer Synapse 3
Reinstalling Razer Synapse 3
Installing Razer Synapse 4 (beta)
Uninstalling Razer Synapse 4 (beta)
Making sure Razer Synapse 3 and 4 are both uninstalled
Utilizing 2 alternate (known good) USB-C cables
Keeping the subwoofer unplugged
Plugging straight into the wall
Plugging into the wall in another room and bringing it back to the main room... weird but seen that suggested in another location
Using the Razer Device Detection Troubleshooting Tool to uninstall all Razer drivers
Holding + and - and the power button for 10 seconds while it's energized to reset the device
Many combinations of all of the above.
None of those combinations has led to any sound output from the device. I've googled and used the Razer website troubleshooting advice to no avail. I purchased it around 12 months ago from Best Buy and I don't have the receipt and did not use my Best Buy account so I don't think I can return it. Any help would be appreciated with this.

2024.05.21 01:38 Mardito87 Motorola MA1 not working with Pixel 8 pro

I just got the ioniq 6 on Saturday and I was using the Moto MA1 on my Elantra hybrid. I factory reset it and it worked perfectly on the drive home but the day after It stopped working. I've rested the MA1 multiple times but after re-pairing it to my pixel 8 pro just won't connect to it via Bluetooth the light will switch from a light blue to blinking or solid green light. Not sure what the issue is.

2024.05.21 01:31 Extension_Cricket_74 Short Story: A Machine that sings the End (Petra/Trinket)

The Lesser Engine seemed to whimper, just before its animalistic head was crushed under the heavy heel of the Logos Armor. Petra was looking around, her armor covered in hellish grime, pieces of fiery cables, her hammerhead scraped in some places by the metal chitin of the warpforged abominations. A swing of her weapon decapitated a screaming techpriest, and she could see her sons advance behind her, focusing their fires onto the creatures that hadn’t come into her range.
She raised her arm and the bolter array built onto it sang four times, each bolt hitting and penetrating into the bronze hull of a monster. A movement in the side of her view immediately made her turn, and Petra placed herself right behind the Automata that was raising its shield to parry the volley of ammunition that a vomiting amalgamation of tin and steel was spewing out. The machine painted in the colors of the legion marched towards it, shield still forward as it was raising its hammer. Another Domitar joined in, and they started hammering down the bear, striking at the places that Petra indicated them to with her Logos.
Not even leaving them a moment of respite, a shriek echoed through the halls of the corrupted forgeworld, announcing the arrival of a new transformed machine, this time using the shape of a massive scorpion of brass, painted in red - probably actual blood. A True Daemon Engine.
“Stay behind”, Petra ordered her own troops. “Only the Iron Circle will engage with me. Provide cover fire”. Immediately her soldiers reorganized themselves, walking slightly back while she moved towards the warped machine. It was big, but not so much more than some beasts she had taken down during the Great Crusade.
The Logos Bolt Array roared in rapid succession, spitting explosive shells that burst on the thing’s pincer shell it was protecting itself with. The cannon on its tail aimed at the little group approaching, and fired in response. The bullets managed to pierced the shield of one of the Automata, bringing it to the ground in skittering motions as the Primarch ran to the machine.
The shell of the left pincer bent under the shock of her hammer, but could see the interior mechanisms and integrity were still completely fine. As the monster hissed, she growled and climbed onto it, before it could move its appendix. Her array fired again, aiming at the creature’s low head, and it was assailed by the other Automata. Alas, the legion’s machines could do little when even their Primarch’s strength was only sufficient to dent its exterior, their hammers clanging with sound but no damage. The Engine shrieked and spun on its feet, sweeping the footing of the Domitars with its armored tail, almost shaking Petra off of its great body.
The Breaker of Stone jumped, landing her hammer onto the machine’s head, keeping its optics away from herself. The Automata had started to stand up, some of them already trying again to impair the Daemon Engine. The Scorpion managed to snatch the shield arm of one of the Domitars into its pincers, immediately starting to grind it, then using its second arm to crush its body, neutralizing it into a cloud of sparks and noises of bent iron.
A volley of missiles exploded onto its body, making it stumble a step or two. Petra’s Tyrant Siege Terminator squad had established a perimeter around them, alongside three Devastation squads of Space Marines armed to the teeth. The Lady of Iron used the opportunity, clasping her two hands around her hammer, and smashed the face of it onto the mechanical head, cracking the glass of its baleful eye.
Letting one hand on her weapon go, she shoved her fist into the eye, fully shattering it and grasping at cables, opened fire eight times, before pulling the sparkling fiber out. The creature’s feet skittered and scraped onto the ground, flailing as well as it could with its weakening strength under the hands of the Primarch and the shields of the Automata pressing against its body.
Her soldiers approached slowly, step by step and always keeping their visors onto the fallen beast. It stopped moving. Petra allowed herself a breath, before turning to her sons. The Terminator and the Devastation squads were meticulously reloading their weapons, while her tactical squads surveyed the corridors they arrived through, one of them moving further in the dark halls of the Forge World.
When her Marines were ready, she nodded a signal to her soldiers, and they moved forward. Not even five steps were made when she turned on her heels, hearing a sound from behind her.
[The. Beast. Sings].
Three words that echoed into the large, empty hall. Her blood curled hearing it. This wasn’t normal speech. She had mechanically translated it, only understanding what the means of transmission was after hearing the full sentence.
[The. Beast. Sings].
Scrap-code.The Chaos speech reserved for the machines. An odious parody of the already-nonsensical Lingua Technis in usage within the Cult of Mars. And the carcass was speaking it. She activated the Logos’ system used to communicate orders to the Automata accompanying them.
“Killswitch protocol, immediate deactivation”. She commanded, not willing to even let a chance at her Automatas being corrupted. The Iron Warriors moved to surround the legion’s Iron Circle, carefully laying them down and locking their joints.
[The Beast sings]. It was continuously psalmoding, like a broken disc, accelerating. [The Beast sings The Beast sings The Beast sings The Beast sings]- until she put her hands on its neck, her fingers slowly bending the metal, and she pulled at it until the head was separated from the neck in a horrible noise of brass. Petra switched her comms to contact the scouting unit sent forward.
“Watch out for any signal of chaotic machines, warn us at any movement”. She turned to the corridors that had been used by some of the Techpriests that had ambushed them, eyeing the corpses with disgust.
They had all been chanting the same fucking thing. The Beast sings. What even was the beast? She had first encountered this name on another forge world, where some of her Warriors had been hunted by a strange Warp Machine. It had disappeared moments before she arrived on site herself, and she had stored it away in her memories, until it resurfaced some time later on another planet, another corrupted cult dedicated to the Dark Mechanicum. And another time, it had fled an hour before she had reached the deployment zone.
At first, the writings had been about “The Beast wakes”. Then, “The Beast writhes”. “The Beast forges”, all in Scrap-code, again and again. Until they came here, to the Forge Worlds of the moons of Cercantyle, themselves orbiting around a planet that had fallen to the corruption and whispers of the Warp.
Vibrations. Noises. Explosions.
She turned her head toward the sound, raising one of her Bolt array in overwatch, but didn’t see anything. She didn’t see anything other than her Marines, prudently observing the source of the noise.
“Squad Iota, what is your status?”
No answer came back. She motioned to her Terminators, who placed themselves forward and raised their weapons.
“Squad Iota, respond”. Her answer was the same as for her first question. “We probably lost them. Squad Alpha and Beta, watch over the corridor. Squad Gamma to Epsilon, survey the other entries. I don’t want any surprises”.
She accessed a cogitator, trying to see if she could garner any information from the eight-point covered machine, growling when she saw all was written in Scrap-code too. Fucking lunatics, even more annoying the the “normal” Mechanicum cultists.
Large arrivals of metal, used for weaponry and vehicle propulsors. Well, alongside daemons that were used by the warped tech priests to inhabit those machines. Copious amounts of fuel, menial slaves and engineers had been brought here. She felt a chill creep up her spine. Petra raised her eyes from the cogitator, definitely weirded out. Because it was a familiar feeling. But not the same. Unnatural.
Again, vibrations, noises, explosions. This time so much closer, almost detonating where her squads Alpha and Beta were standing. “Form up!”, “Ambush!” She could hear her soldiers shout, spreading out to avoid cluster explosions, and moving into covers behind ruined machines and skull-decorated wall fragments. The Tyrant Siege squad was the first line, having survived the blast with little to no injuries thanks to the more robust Cataphractii armors.
Her helmet’s visors didn’t show her any movement coming from the corridors. Petra ran diagnostics seeing the shapes of the explosions on the ground, approaching her troops. The screens showed her trajectory probabilities, drawing predictions and attempting to locate the enemy’s position. She raised her eyes, just before one of squad Delta’s marine shouted “Contact! Above!”
There it was. A massive construct of plasteel, ceramite, and armaplas, exiting from a higher-level hallway, reactors spewing out warp-fire.
It was pristine.
Unlike the Daemon Engines and chaos machines she had destroyed and taken apart, it showed no decorations in honor to the Chaos Gods, no brass or gold trims organized in spikes and curves. No, this one was slick, almost T’au like in appearance, but with definitive elements of Imperial structure. The silver metal of its hull was reflecting lights.
A humanoid body about twice her size made up the centerpiece of it, a large construct latched onto its back, and a large ring circled around the main body. Multiple cannons on the back, three-gatling guns onto each arm, and Petra could even see it was shielded by technology akin to Iron Halos. A weapon of war that saw no surrender, no end to its decimation. The blood-red shining eyes fixated solely upon her.
The Beast was hovering above them, imitating what Space Marines had been called, and Angel of Death. And the Beast sang.
It opened fire on her troops and her, six gatling guns rotating and ejecting shells by the hundreds in a few seconds, and five of her sons fell before they could put their shields in a carapace to protect themselves from the projectiles. Her Terminators responded in the same way, hardly bothered by the bullets raining down on them and shouldering Combi-Bolter, the deafening noise of their weapons adding to the cacophony that the Beast was already composing.
It was fast. When her Tyrant Siege squad added their missiles to the exchange, it seemed to reave through the air as a broadsword, moving out of the way of the projectiles, never ceasing to shoot, and worse, beginning to circle around the less protected Tactical Marines, pinning them down, its traits piercing through the gray ceramite, again and again. Petra’s Bolt Arrays were shooting non-stop, her Logos calculating and predicting the movements of the flying machine, but her munitions were crushed against the Force-Field deployed around it.
“Get to cover! Use the corridors to hide yourself!” Petra ordered her troops, placing herself away from the eyes of the machine while using the Logos’ systems to reboot the Automata. Even though they were mostly equipped for close quarter combat, she had conceived the Olympia Bolt Cannon to arm them in addition to their bodyguard abilities she now used as first battle ranks, shielding her soldiers.
Thanks to her Trinket, always one to bring any advantage to their side in negotiations, she had had far enough to experiment multiple formations, and was satisfied with the weaponry they were now using - if the Iron Warriors were able to bring the Beast to the ground, they would fall upon it with their Graviton mauls.
For now, she unlocked the joints, and restarted their systems, the chest light flaring up green. One of the red eyes of the flying construct lowered to look at them, and immediately after, directed one of his arms in the same direction, the three gatlings starting to spin again, landing some hits that scratched their surfaces, resulting in one of the Domitar-Ferrum having a chestplate opened, and a pauldron bent under the heavy fire before it could raise its shield.
Did it have an unlimited amount of ammunition? Urgh, it had probably far enough to wage battle against them for hours on end, and they were currently engaged in a Forge-world. It could fly away any moment, and find some station to re-arm itself.
Petra opened her comms, directing her soldiers directly to always harass the Beast, forming into firing patterns as three squads gained altitude in the maze that was the architecture of the Forge-World. She counted. Eleven soldiers had been lost. Five were also injured - though not gravely enough that they had to stop fighting. A glance at the damaged automata let her know that it could still be pushed to fight, and could endure more damage. She opened cover fire to move herself, approaching her soldiers so that she would not be stuck in the middle of an open-space.
“Phase Four, Hammer Protocol”, she ordered on the Logos, and her soldiers moved as well as they could to accomplish their missions. Every single trigger belonging to a soldier under her command was pulled into a deafening noise that echoed into the large hall, lights of tracer fire producing a continued source of radiance that she wouldn’t even need the night vision provided by her helmet.
Even though the Conversion field around the Beast was sparkling, progressively advancing to the point where it would need to be deactivated to not overload, it was reaching it far too slowly for Petra’s taste. Frustration was building up faster in her.
Some movement in the construct made her change her focus, as she tried to identify why it was moving the way it did. The gatling guns on its right arm had folded back into the back construct part, and now it was a long, thin and rectangular armament that was attached to its arm. And aimed at her. A glance at it indicated her it was warped T’au technology, modified to be usable alongside those demonic systems. She felt a cold sweat immediately.
Mass launcher. Heavy Rail Cannon.
Petra stepped away in a blink, unsure even her armor would be perfectly safe from a weapon like that, a single instant later the place she had been in was shot at.
Light. Noise.
Silence.
A Warrior behind her had been less lucky, its upper body part simply erased by the projectile’s impact, which didn’t even explode.
It had penetrated into the metallic ground, dug deep until the meager warning lights of the hall couldn’t shed shine onto it. The body of her Marine fell onto the ground, blood finally flowing out as though it had briefly not realized it had been killed.
She processed it into the back of her mind, running to find some cover that would hide her from the weapon. It seemed however that the Daemon Engine didn’t have in mind to continue using its Rail Cannon, and started to rise, floating higher. She had another bad feeling. And she was rarely wrong on such occasions. It put away the arms that were latched onto its arms, and extended its hands forward.
Something started to roll on the horizontal ring, and exited the top of the back construct in the same way, stopping halfway, above the Beast’s head. Multiple dots of red upon light-gray surface, and Petra already knew it was multiple missile pod systems.
“Find cover!” she heard one of her soldiers scream out. Petra ordered the Domitars to defend the Marines that weren’t equipped with Boarding Shields like her Breacher Squads. Noises like pings emitted by the Machine started to rise, accelerating in tempo and volume.
It brought its hands downwards, a conductor's movement. The orchestra, a symphony of technological-brought death, began.
The Beast sings.
The sounds of their thrusters weren’t the one she was used to hearing from missiles in flight, no, it was far worse. Whispers, murmurs, talks, shouts, wails, screeches, howling. The noises each projectile was making were separate voices of pain and suffering, or shrieks of rage and anger.
A choir that the Beast was directing, the missiles following his hands, cues and downbeats, the screaming and bellows harmonizing to form a music that would be beautiful, if it weren’t so haunting, dangerous and in such an inopportune moment.
Petra locked her armor completely, focusing on defending against the missiles that were going for her. She recognized it. She crouched, protecting her head with her arms, and the noises of all missiles exploding at the same time, a fortississimo overbearing on her ears, and the shaking was the same as being just beside a Titan Ordnance weapon firing.
The instant she was safe, running diagnostic operations on the Logos integrity, she forced herself to move despite the shock she was feeling. Not just physical. The music It had imitated before the missiles exploded. She knew it perfectly. From its start, to the Da Capo, to its end and crescendo, with every single note in between.
Because she knew the composer. Because she was beside him when he composed. Because HE composed FOR HER. Because it was Trinket’s piece. A horrible, abominable parody, spitting on every musical pattern and expression he spent days and nights writing while she was drawing architectural blueprints and building dioramas of the multiple Olympia’s cities they oversaw reconstruction of.
The shared name of Elysia, the location of their planned Forever Home, and of the hymn they had decided on.
And nothing was making her more mad than the twisted parody of her favorite music, turned into something so… She didn’t even find the words for the utter disgust she was going through. Nor for her anger.
“Cover me! Switch back to Phase three, Protocol Nemea!”
Petra exited the smoke left by the detonation after shouting her order, and went straight for the broken corpse of the Brass Scorpion, teeth clenched. Hearing the weapons of her sons firing behind her, she swore she would destroy that thing, and free Trinket from its grasp. She had not a single doubt he was in it. Being the core of the Beast. She caught the tail of the machine monster, and dragged it to turn the Demolisher cannon that formed its parody of a mouth in the direction of Trinket’s prison.
Using the commanding functions of the Logos, she connected to the machine’s body, bluntly deleting every piece of Scrap-Code that she could, as the chaotic construct was off for now, and when she was done, she booted the firing systems up.
She was hearing the roaring of the Beast’s gatling guns, firing ceaselessly to kill her sons, the crackling noise of Boarding Shields and Karceri Shields as the hailing rain of bullets was caught against their power fields.
Petra’s will, translated into cybernetics commands, made the legs of the Scorpion skitter and rise, angling its maw at the flier. After a few seconds loading, and preparing the weapon, the Scorpion opened fire, crossing the distance between source and target in barely a breath. The noise of the detonation echoed the same as the missiles the Beast had previously fired in its orchestral volleys.
The flying machine trembled, the iron halo’s field crackling, turning on and off until it finally shut down.
“Now!” Petra shouted to her Warriors. “Engage Phase five, suppressing fire!” Exiting their covers, most of her Marines aimed and opened fire at the Engine. She aimed at its reactors when it showed its back to her, shooting with all eight of her shrapnel bolt array. As it lowered slightly, she calculated her odds. Satisfied, she started running toward it, accelerating to some of the fastest speeds she had reached on her feet, motivation and desperation both pumping fire into her veins of iron.
Using the ruined machinery that strewed the ground, she gained elevation, and fully jumped to catch on the ring surrounding the core construct. Its three eyes looked at her, and Petra could swear she could see them burning in hatred. It tried to aim its gatling at her, but she moved faster, opening fire without restraint straight at its arm, a barrage of bolts that started to tear through the weaknesses in the metal that she saw.
Unable to fly correctly anymore, the Beast lowered even more, to the point where the Automata, coming running at it, could extend their hammers to latch on the ring and body, pinning it down. Petra let go of the outer ring, and walked straight toward the core unit, ignoring the warnings that one of her sergeants was directing to her.
She couldn’t hear anything over a ringing in her ears suspiciously resembling the melody of Elysia.
She finally reached it, extending her hand toward its head, and ripped it off without a care, watching with satisfaction as the three-eyed lights faded from the optics. She tossed it aside. Under her awaiting hands was the gesticulating body of an iron maiden that jailed the person she wanted to see most.
Weaknesses.
In the frame, in the ossature, in the hull. She reached and grasped, and bent, and pulled, and tore, destroying the malignant thing bit by bit, piece by piece, seeing her soldiers in the corner of her eyes, but not registering anything other than the slowly opening torso of the machine.
Finally.
Finally.
Finally, she ripped open the cockpit, to be met with such a cherished and such a haunted sight. Her Velvet Glove. Her Trinket.
Finally.
“FeFe…” she whispered. She could feel her eyes water behind the iron skull of her helmet.
It was an abominable sight. Everything was him. Nothing was his. As the song, it was a parody of who he was.
It was his hair: white and in long locks. It wasn’t: oily, greasy and unkempt.
It was his body: olive skin and the same scars as she remembered. It wasn’t: skeletal, gaunt, emaciated and hollow. Ribs almost piercing out from under his naked dry skin.
It was his eyes, the same turquoise, the same golden decoration he had asked her to graft under the left one to mask one scar he had there. It wasn’t: there were no lights in those glassy and foggy balls, and the gold was tarnished, rusted.
His lips were parched and scarred, his eyelids scratched, and she was trembling seeing the sight.
He was missing an arm, cables and wires directly plugged into his torn flesh.
A ruined enveloppe.
A single terminal was held in his sickly thin fingers, showing characters writing on a loop. Two words. It wasn’t Scrap-Code, nor was it Lingua-Technis, nor even was it Gothic, be it low or high. No, it was their native tongue of Olympia.
Two words, repeating on a loop like a mad chant line after line.
Σκότωσέ με.
Kill me.
Kill me.
Kill me.
Kill me.
Kill me.
Petra slowly reached to her helmet, its hissing pops signaling the depressurization. She removed it, her braided lock falling onto her shoulder as she put it aside.
“No”.
She reached toward him, cupping his cheek in her gauntlet, as large as his head, not applying any bit of force. Her hand was trembling. She pulled his body from the machine’s carcass, carefully disconnecting the cables thanks to the Logos’ programming properties. She cradled his broken, shattered form in her arms like carrying a newborn. She could barely feel his heartbeat. Her vision of him was riddled in weaknesses that usually inhabited her vision, so, so many onto his form.
She tilted to whisper in his ear.
“I’m bringing you back home. We’ll go together. Do you remember, FeFe? To Elysia”.
She almost broke down when she saw a sign of recognition on his part when he heard that name. Just slightly, almost imperceptible, his eyes widened.
A Spark.

How bad are these ratios? Added results from overseeding
Ton of new weeds and weird patches of grass popping up all over my lawn this year. I scarred, compost, peamoss, overseed last fall. Applied preemergent this spring. I have several more bags of seeds and now afraid to overseed this year after seeing last years results. 5b

2024.05.20 22:28 darkPrince010 [OC] Flight of The Apiary, ch. 17: Hope (Full book now out!)

Start
Previous
It took some time to retrace her steps out of the near-maze that was the Scroll-Hive. By the time Mira was walking through the garden in the mess hall, the chime sounded again over the ship intercom, announcing that they had arrived in orbit around the second moon.
Breathless, Mira had raced to the bridge, but even as she was going to pull up the initial scan screen she could see a glowing green indicator that another radiation profile had been found, this time on the far side of the planetoid.
“How did we possibly detect-” she started to say in confusion, before the swarm began filling the space on the bridge.
“Our apologies for not notifying you earlier, caretaker. We took the liberty of calibrating the sensors to the specific radiation profile detected in the debris The Apiary detected on the first moon. We knew this would result in a more-restricted search, but also allows for a much broader and rapid scan, with the added benefit of being able to detect the radiation profile through anything not blocking the emission source. Fortunately, these moons appear quite porous, so the scan was able to detect the faint match almost as soon as we reached orbit.”
Mira pivoted the console over to her chair, keying in a series of commands as she placed a navigation marker on the detected point. However, as she reached to key in the autopilot commands, she paused as the queen landed on the back of her hand.
“Caretaker, please remember that the circumstances here suggest the wreck of the Korindax may not have been accidental. It is not unheard of for raiders and pirates of all backgrounds to lure ships and passersbys with appearances of helplessness and others in need.”
She could feel her throat starting to tighten at the thought of this all being for nothing and just another dead end, or worse. Setting her jaw, Mira tried to avoid letting herself lash out at Queen and Kin as she knew they were trying to look out for what was best for her safety, even if it felt like another barrier was being thrown in front of her and her hopes of reuniting with her missing parents.
Mira winced, realizing she had been twisting a finger into a lock of her hair so hard that it threatened to pull at the roots, and she felt the buzz as the queen began speaking personally.
”Caretaker, that this is not to say we cannot investigate, only that we exercise caution in doing so. Let's perform a flyover from orbit and capture additional data before we descend. If your parents are still surviving there, another few hours after a decade apart will make little difference.”
She wanted to race down there more than anything, but a part of Mira knew that the swarm was right. Turning back to the console, she deleted the landing instructions and instead began programming in the flyover pass grid, this time a much tighter pattern that would only take a quarter hour or so to complete.
Sitting in the mess hall, Mira did her best to avoid dwelling on the scan as she grabbed a quick bite to eat. Her stomach had protested loudly as she initially thought she could just sit and wait on the bridge itself, and she had been in the tangle of the Scroll-Hive for more hours than she realized.
Although she would never have admitted it to Queen and Kin with the way they were trying to overprotect her, she could feel a deep, bone-weary ache as she was now approaching almost a full twenty-four hours without sleep, adrenaline having provided the energy she needed at first but now demanding compensation in spades. Stifling a yawn, Mira could still feel it escaping through clenched teeth when she tried to avoid giving any visible sign of her tiredness away.
Nevertheless, she could feel as if she was going slightly cross-eyed, with food resting unchewed in her mouth, when the alert chime sounded throughout the ship. It surprised her, and Mira had to do an awkward half-cough to avoid inhaling the dried apple crisps she was eating, clearing her throat repeatedly as she stumbled her way onto the bridge.
“Caretaker, are you quite all right?”
The swarm has already pulled up the scan data and Mira waved away their concerns dismissively as her attention focused on the readout display.
“Yes yes, I'm fine. Although when this is all over, I'm going to nap for a week in that stasis pod.”
“Well, to the best of our knowledge the stasis pod does not actually result in a restful REM sleep, but rather creates a simultaneous full-body preservation in suspension, so we're not sure it's exactly-”
“Right, yeah, whatever,” she said, all of her attention focusing on the scan results as she felt the tiredness partially bleed away, although bone-deep ache of impending exhaustion was still there.
“We monitored as the results came in, and want to ensure you are prepared, caretaker.”
Mira was still only half listening as she could feel a complex churn of emotions in the pit of her stomach. The readout showed the distinct profile outline of an escape pod, intact as opposed to scattered wreckage that would have surely meant they were killed on impact, but also with no signs otherwise of life whatsoever. Giving the perimeter of the scan a quick look through, Mira punched in the landing sequence for the autopilot, shooting a sideways glance at the nearest cluster of Queen and Kin as she did so.
“I don't see any signs of pirates, raiders, or other attempts at ambush. Hell, I'm not even sure there is anything on this planetoid smart enough to string two words together, so I don't want to delay any longer.”
“Very well, caretaker, but if we may offer you some words of advice-”
“I know, I know: Keep an eye out for any signs of trouble anyways, just in case.”
This time Mira could almost hear a smile in the tone of the swarm.
“While prudent, that is not what we wished to say. Instead, we feel the need to point out that the lack of any kind of visible evidence of farming or other long-term sustainable food sourcing would likely mean little to no attempts at long-term survival were made. While the Wandering Empire’s proximity and involvement is still a possible factor, the likely outcomes for this are either that your escape pod is empty, or that it is not.”
It took a moment for Mira to realize what the hive was saying, and she could feel tears spring to the corner of her eyes that she blinked away, gritting her teeth and doing her best to take a calm breath as she said “I understand, but either way I have to know.”
As the ship rumbled and groaned on its landing vector, Mira's mind was turning over the possibilities in her head. She was trying her best to be optimistic about it, but every piece of evidence she could point to said that her parents had not scraped out an existence on this barren moon like she had desperately and naively hoped. She wasn't sure what she had expected to see: Maybe farmlands stretching across and away from their crashed escape pod site, a building built from stones or trees despite the landscape lacking much beyond scrubby grass-like plants and gravel-sized chunks of rock.
As they landed, Queen and Kin spoke as she suited up.
“The atmosphere here is more conducive to extended existence than the other moon, so for you or other humans it would be as if you were simply atop a large mountain, with air thin but breathable. Unfortunately, we will have to refrain from accompanying you as we would require our vacuum suit again, and we have other preparations to make before heading off wherever our next journey takes us.”
Mira knew that the swarm would have come with her in a heartbeat if she'd asked, but she appreciated that they had put on the appearance of being preoccupied so as to avoid her having asked them to stay behind. The planetoid was too small and sparse to support any kind of dangerous larger predators, and the all the scans turned up negative for any other signs of a trap or ambush.
Mira felt no concern for herself, at least in the physical sense, as she stepped out and onto the moon. A light breeze blew past here, and she could feel as her lungs couldn't quite capture as much air as they would prefer if she could do a deep breath, but she much preferred to be panting slightly rather than have a ventilator to deal with.
She strode to the pod, a few hundred yards away and on the same flat plane. This time there was no hill or ridges to obscure it; Instead, she tried steadily towards the silent and unmoving shape, easy to see from almost anywhere this side of the horizon thanks to how relatively featureless this moon was.
There were a few grassy indents here and there were meteoroids had shattered and punched holes in that the scrubby brush underfoot had grown back into fill. At one point, Mira stumbled and nearly felt her ankle twist in one such hole. Cursing under her breath, she climbed out of the depression and continued walking towards the pod.
Finally she was close enough that throwing a rock underhand could have hit it easily, but remembering the Queen and Kin’s warning, she paused and did a slow circle around. The view window was darkened from reentry, cracked with a few broken panels here and there but too dark and it too steep of an angle to make out anything inside. The exterior was similarly scorched but free of any clear signs of laser fire or other weaponry.
Stepping closer, she reached out to touch the pod, almost flinching as if she expected it to shake or react. Instead it was mostly-cool, warm on the highest points that were catching direct sunlight but the rest of the metal still almost icy to the touch.
She could feel her throat clench even as she forced it to obey, calling out “Hello? Is there anybody there?”
Walking up to the side and the entry doorway, she can see the doorway hung open slightly, It was bent along the edge, but not in a way that made it clear if this was damage sustained on impact, or after the fact. She rapped on it with her suited knuckles, the sharp sound echoing both within the pod and across the barren landscape.
Still hearing no response, Mira gently pushed the door open and stepped inside. Immediately, she noticed there was a musty odor within, and signs of some sort of struggle. Almost every drawer and storage container had been opened and upended, and there were several clear scuff and scrape marks along the floor near the door, as if someone had been digging in desperately with a tool or implement while another force is moving them away.
As her eyes lifted up to the quartet of seats, she saw that while three of them hung empty with buckles dangling in the still and dusty air, she could see a desiccated and half-rotted hand sitting on the other.
Every instinct in her was telling her to run to turn away, to leave and never return, but Mira instead forced herself to take a step forward, and then another towards the front of the pod.
The rotted arm led up into a pockmarked uniform, the insignia matching that of the members aboard the Glyph of Korindax. Against her wishes and hopes, Mira gritted her teeth and bit back tears at what she was about to see as she looked up to stare the corpse in the face.

Huge thanks to all the readers for their amazing support. Got the manuscript finished editing two months to the day after the initial prompt was posted, and I'm excited to have my second 300+ page book under my belt. Regular short stories from me will resume soon!

2024.05.20 19:46 wideawaketheysleep Wierd lights off my porch at night.

So, I'm not saying I've seen little green men piloting an interdimensional space craft.
Just trying to understand what I've been seeing.
At night between 10pm and 1am, very lazily I try to "summon" something , after a CE5 meditation, with a major sense of humor, leaning on an open sliding glass door I began pleading with the sky, all of the sudden a light flashes, twice, barely moving, basically directly above me, it disappears as fast as it shows up, no trace at all not even faint.
I don't say shit to my wife, not much to say, it was just a light.
The next night I try it again, immediately I see a similar light show, I go and tell my wife. She says I sound like a tweaker, I tell her I'm gonna "try" again, I do , this time I plead for a little longer visibility, this time time the light is a little lower and blinks bright as Venus while moving decently fast, it blinks 5 times, it lasts longer. So I tell my wife. She trusts me, she wants to see.
She trys peaking out the window. I stand their for sometime. Nothing. Feeling dumb. I go to bed.
A half hour later letting the dog out , I look up again. Nothing. As I say to myself, fuck you... (To them) For not showing up, a VERY bright burst , short two pulses...
I HAVE CHILLS, run, basically re wake up my wife. She is not amused. I go to bed.
A few nights later my wife and I are out side with our 9yo daughter and her sleeping over cousin. We see this phenomenon a bunch, some really bright, and again they disappear after a few flashes , all four of us saw them.
They are not planes.
Maybe satellite flashes. But they seem to be at different elevations sometimes, different sizes and different brightness. Different durations some times moving sometimes not. Sometimes very bright single pules. (Not a star, they fade COMPLETELY away, and for good)
I'm in Idaho, in the Boise area. This has been happening for two weeks.
Any ideas?

2024.05.20 19:35 Xceptionless Circus

Fortune opened the door to “Nezumi’s Spirits”, it was just past dawn, and they wanted to go watch the Junior’s competition before they got into the Arena. She was surprised to see quite a few extra people in the shop. Tambori and Faedrin were heating up Tambori’s tea, Irezumi was working out. Fortune was surprised to see a small, beautiful but pale woman sitting behind Echo, working with an ink covered needle and scribing in a tattoo. She didn’t have too long to watch uncomfortably as a very large man with a mask on was suddenly directly infront of her.
“Dad! It’s ok, that’s Fortune and Chance. They are expected.” The large man took his mask off, and wore a dumb smile on his face. He bowed to Fortune, his clouded eyes not seeming to see her, though it was obvious that he knew exactly where she was.
“Oh, so YOU’RE Fortune and Chance.” The man said, “It is good to meet you. I am Hibiki Nezumi.” He pointed to the small pale woman. “That is my wife, Lenore. Echo and Irezumi’s mother.”
Lenore stopped, took a moment to clean her tools, and stood, wiping off her hands. She gave a bow to Fortune and Chance. “It is good to meet you.” She said. She opened her mouth to say more, but Hibiki moved very suddenly. Fortune blinked and saw two young men hanging from either of Hibiki’s hands. Lenore laughed a moment and continued. “ This is Obake, and Rei. They are a few of the siblings that have come to watch Echo, Irezumi and Sakusei.” She put her finger in her mouth and whistled. From the back room came a parade of children. First, two girls, obviously twins as they were Identical, even down to the way they walked. They were holding two babies. “This is Kuro and Shiro. They are holding the newest of the their siblings, Sora and Riku.” Following them, were two more children, about 5 years old. “This is Neko and Karasu.” Next a young girl with a very serious face, she dressed oddly, compared to the rest. While they seemed to wear clothes of whites, blacks and browns.. This girl was dressed in pinks and greens. She gave a small curtsy as she was introduced. But no smile appeared on her face. “This is Sakusei’s sister, Sugure.” Finally, one more girl, about 16 years old, who looked like an identical clone of her mother. “And this is Majo.”
Fortune and Chance bowed deeply. “It is nice to meet you all.” Fortune said, she looked back at Echo, who was still seated on a stool at the end of the counter. “You really think getting a tattoo before the games today is a good idea?”
Echo shrugged, and patted the back of his shoulder with a Saki soaked cloth, then sprinkled some salt over it. “Mom’s been working on this piece for a long time. So, we take the opportunity when we can.” He said.
“That reminds me.” Lenore remembered. She went behind the counter and got a small scrap of paper, and drew a complex Character on it. She handed the paper to Fortune. “This is how you write ‘Echo’. Be careful, this little line is very important.” she pointed out the small line.
“Mom.. Geez..” Echo complained, the other kids and Irezumi laughed openly.
“What?” Lenore said. “It’s important for her to know. If she doesn’t put that line in, then it’s Hibiki.. and I don’t want her to make that mistake.”
“I’m sorry.” Fortune interrupted. “What? That little line is the difference between ‘Echo’ and ‘Hibiki’?”
“At home, in our language,” Lenore explained. “the word ‘Hibiki’ means ‘Echo’ in your language. I guess you could say, that Echo’s real name is ‘Hibiki Nezumi jr.’ but we found that confusing, so we call him Echo.”
“Oh, so, does ‘Irezumi’ mean ‘Lenore’?” Fortune asked.
“No.” Irezumi said simply, between pull ups.
“Oh…” Fortune said, after waiting for an explanation that didn’t seem to be coming. “So.. Why are you giving this to me?” She asked Lenore.
“For when the time is right.” She said, and patted Fortune’s hand. “Now, you all get moving. I don’t want you to miss out on the matches.”
“Majo, are you sure you don’t want to come? I can ask someone to watch the store, or we can just close down for the day.” Echo asked his sister
“Are you going to lose today?” Majo asked.
“Of course not.” Echo replied.
“Then I will get to see the next one, and Obake and Rei can watch the store then.” Majo said.
“Pfft.. Fat Chance.” One of the boys, still hanging from their father’s hands said.
Echo rolled his eyes at his brothers. “We will close the store until Sakusei’s match is over, and then I’ll open back up for the intermission. I would like you to be there.”
Majo smiled at her brother. “Thank you.” She said simply, and picked up a light cloak from a peg on the wall.
“Now.. We just have to wait for our Vanguard replacements to come… THEN we can leave.” Echo said.

Sakusei sent a series of clicks and whistles to Scraps.
“I have some food.” Scraps said, digging an old wedge of cheese out of his bag and brushing the worst of the mold off. He offered it to Sakusei.
Sakusei clicked again.
“Oh, yeah, I mean, if you want to try them, I guess.” Scraps said. “This way.”
Scraps led the young boy out of the contestants area, and out of the arena. They stopped in front of a street cart where a man was frying noodles.
“Two please! Extra onions and sprouts!” Scraps ordered. The man just nodded and started adding things into his wok.
“You think we’ll be able to catch up?” Scraps asked Sakusei. “I mean, in the points.. I guess we should have made a mistake.. Is that weird? I mean, to make a mistake on purpose, just for points?”
“You should ask your mom that.” A deep laugh came from behind the pair, along with the insult. “She would know about making mistakes.”
Scraps and Sakusei turned around to find a large Goliath boy, from one of the other teams laughing at them.
“How stupid do you have to be? Didn’t your coach tell you that you get points for fighting monsters? Besides, they were just goblins.” The boy ribbed. “I mean.. you didn’t even try.. Pretty sure you two should go tell your team to quit now. You should have been out earlier. Doubt you’re gonna catch up now.”
Sakusei gently pushed Scraps behind him, and growled threateningly at the Goliath boy, his eyes glued to the mask that the boy wore on the side of his head.
The boy and his friends roared with laughter, as Sakusei reached for his sword. “Go ahead, stupid. Bare steel and stab me in the street. It will disqualify you from the games. Do it.. then you can go home and cry to your mommy.”
Sakusei let his hand drop from his sword, but his glare, and growl remained.
“Sakusei! Scraps!” The Voice of Mr. Threadspinner called. They turned as he rushed up. He paid the noodle man a few coins, and handed Scraps and Sakusei their noodles. “Come on.. The Games are about to start!” He ushered them away, and back to their seats.

“Welcome back to the Main Event!” The announcer’s voice echoed over the crowd. “For the First task in the Qadar Games. Our teams will have to secure a treasure!” a large cloud of mist suddenly filled the interiour of the Arena. After a moment or two, a gust of wind blew the mist away, revealing a rocky crag. Coiled around a the top of the Crag, the sibiliant form of a Basilisk curled around a golden egg. At the bottom of the rock, a large group of gnolls yipped and howled. “It seems this tribe of Gnolls has located a powerful Basilisk to worship as their tribes deity. It’s up to our adventurers to capture the egg before it can hatch and fullfill a dark prophecy!”
Tambori was simply a wreck. “A Basilisk? Who do they think we are? This is FAR too dangerous for a game.”
Irezumi and Echo glanced at each other. “It looks like a big snake.” Irezumi said.
“It IS a big snake.” Faedrin said.
Fortune sighed. “It’s a big snake that will turn you to stone if you look it in the eye. It’s very good at getting you to do it.”
Echo just nodded and began loosening up his shoulders.
Irezumi eyed the rock and the Gnolls. “If you can get me there, muscles here and I can get the egg back.” Irezumi pointed at Fortune with her thumb.
Echo turned around to face his team. “What do you all think?”
Faedrin thought for a moment. “Did you guys watch the juniors this morning?” she asked and they all nodded. “So.. Like, Sakusei’s team finished first.. but they didn’t get the most points.. I’m thinking this is similar. I’m betting we get additional points for every different ‘task’ we do. Like, I’m guessing that we’ll have to take the egg and place it in some sort of ‘safe zone’. That’s our timer. We get minimum points for simply completing the task. But, should we defeat the Basilisk and/or the Gnolls.. I’m guessing there are bonus points.”
Echo nodded in agreement. “I’m thinking the same thing.” He looked over at Tambori. “How long do you think you could hold off the Gnolls?”
************************************************************************
“You’re sure about this?” Fortune asked, holding Echo’s mask as he tied a blindfold on. “You’re going to take on a Basilisk, blindfolded and alone.”
“Blindfolded? Yes.” Echo said, making the last knot in his blindfold. “ Alone? Not exactly.”
“You get us up there, we’ll get the egg back here.” Irezumi said, pouring a bowl of sake, and placing it in the dirt, about ten feet from the “return zone” for the egg. “We’ll hold the Gnolls till you’re done, or they are.” She looked up to a cloudless sky. “I wish it were raining.” she said.
“You WANT rain?” Tambori asked, a bit wild around the eyes.
“Yeah…” Irezumi said with a slight thoughtful frown. “You ok, Tambori?”
“This is just.. Alot..” Tambori said, shaking from the nerves. “There are so many people.. and this is such an important thing..”
“Hey!” Irezumi shouted suddenly, taking Tambori by the shoulders. “We don’t have room for fear, here. If you drop your mind into a lake of ‘what ifs’ and ‘maybe I should haves’ you’re going to lose it. It doesn’t matter if we have to fight a Basilisk, or Gnolls. Or if it’s a Hundred of each. The reality is, That’s what we have to do. So, it’s time to go to work.”
Tambori calmed herself. “You’re right.. No fear… No fear..” She took a deep breath, and gave a little smile. “You said, you wanted rain? I’ll bring you rain.”
“That’s what I like to hear.” Irezumi said, slapping her hard on the shoulder.
“How much time do you need?” Echo asked Tambori.
“I’ll need a minute to lay out the field. After that, it’s game on.” Tambori said.
“Faedrin, Chance…” Echo addressed the other two. “You guys able to defend Tambori for a while until Fortune and Irezumi get back?”
Chance just nodded. Faedrin glanced around to get her bearings. “I’m betting those Gnolls will wait until we try and take the egg. But even if they don’t, yes.”
“Is she really going to make it rain?” Irezumi leaned over and asked Fortune.
“She’s a Windsong.” Fortune said as if that explained everything. Irezumi simply gave her a flat stare. “So, most of the Vanguard follows Jax, the traveler. However, thats not a requirement to join the guild. Tambori is from a family that follows more than one power. The windsongs follow the Path, and The Storm. If she says she’s bringing rain. Get ready for it.”
Irezumi nodded, and Echo put his mask on over his blindfold. “We ready?” he asked
The others voiced their agreement.
Echo raised a hand toward the Judges, signalling that they were ready for their turn. A crisp clear bell sounded, signalling them to start.
Echo sprinted forward, drawing his sword. His free hand making motions as he ran, and he was suddenly flanked by four other beings, seemingly made of dark ink.
Fortune tensed to follow after him, but Irezumi reached out and put her hand on Fortune’s shoulder. “Bring the rain, Tambori.. You’re up.”
Tambori nodded and began her somatic movements. She added her mana to her movements, and clouds began to circle overhead. After a few seconds drops of rain began to fall.
“He’s reached the Gnolls.” Faedrin said, keeping her eyes on Echo. He parried a few strikes, but simply ran through them, and began bounding up the rock, dodging strikes from the basilisk.
“Get ready, muscles.” Irezumi said. “I hope you don’t get motion sickness. This is gonna be weird.”
Echo made it to the top of the rock, and leapt on the creature’s head. He stomped on it, and the Basilisk reared up, throwing him high into the air. Echo grabbed a bottle from his hip, and when he was over the egg, he threw the bottle. It broke right next to the egg.
“Alright, we’re on.” Irezumi said, her hand slid down Fortune’s arm and grasped her wrist. “Try not to puke.” She stepped into the bowl of Sake at her feet, and pulled Fortune with her.
Fortune felt like she was picked up, rolled into a ball, and thrown across a room. The spinning stopped and she realized her feet were on stone, and she was directly infront of the egg. “Pick it up!” Irezumi shouted, as she dodged a swipe from the Basilisk’s tail.
Fortune caught sight of Echo, he and his ink clones were harrasing the head of the giant snake. Slashing and stabbing, keeping it’s attention on him. “How does he…” She started to ask..
“It’s the sound.. He has really good ears!” Irezumi interrupted. “Now, stop oggling my brother and pick that damn egg up so we can get out of here!”
Fortune shook herself from her wonderment, and picked upt the large golden egg. It was extreemly heavy. “Got it.” She said, gritting her teeth.
“Good.” Irezumi said, returning to her side. “Hang on.” She took her arm again and stepped into a puddle of Sake and rainwater.
Fortune found herself back with the others. She went to set the egg down. “Watch it!” Irezumi said, and changed her angle a little bit so she would set the egg outside of the Safe zone. “Don’t want to end the fun just yet.”
“Here they come!” Faedrin said. Fortune looked up, to see all of the Gnolls charging their way. She could see Echo and his clones still fighting the Giant Basilisk.
“Looks like they made a poor choice.” Tambori said, as she finished her movements.. “Now this is MY show.” She said. Planting a foot down hard. She pulled her cloak off, and tightened a strap around her thigh. Fortune saw small nails on the inside of the strap bite into her skin. A loud crash of lightning came and struck her outstretched hand. Her mana rolled out of her as she started singing.

Venriath looked with interest at the games going on down below. He sat with Alonzo and Jynx, with both of them stealing his popcorn.
“Is that guy putting on a blindfold?” Jynx asked.
“Yup.. you know.. so he can’t see it’s eyes.” Alonzo said, stuffing more popcorn in his face.
“I get that.” Jynx said, “but, how is he going to get to the beast?”
“I dunno…” Alonzo said. “I guess that’s his problem.”
Jynx rolled her eyes.
“I’m more interested in what she’s doing.” Venriath said. “She’s prepping a transmutation field, but it’s huge. I can’t imagine what she’s going to be transmuting.”
“Herself.” Laurana said, as she sat down next to Alonzo, she handed Venriath some nachos.
“I doubt that highly.” Venriath said. “That’s extrodinarily dangerous. Like, remember when Noxian used to do that? I thought my heart would stop every time.”
Laurana laughed. “Why don’t you take a good look at her.”
Venriath did so, in truth, she looked a lot like a very tan Laurana. “I mean, she’s a Windsong.. I just assumed that you know. You and Alonzo…”
“Oh yes..” Laurana said. “When he sacrificed himself, he did, indeed leave me expecting. Which, we still have to talk about.” She said with a warning tone. “However.. That was hundreds of Generations ago. It just so happens, that Noxian’s blood also follows the Windsong name.”
Venriath paled a bit. “So, she can channel her power like Noxian.”
Laurana smiled and nodded.. “And she has my voice.”
Venriath paled a bit more. “So.. She can adjust her transformations with Spellsong? Wouldn’t that run the risk of a feedback loop?”
Laurana laughed. “Yup.. It’s pretty.. Dramatic.” She said and pointed.
Tambori began to sing, Her form elongated and her joints distorted. Electric arcs leapt from her body to the nearest Gnolls. On of her fist enlarged, and became like a shiney metal, that immediately heated up. She swung her huge fist, impacting several of the charging dogs. Her other hand raised and a huge fireball detonated in the main host of enemies.
The others closed ranks around the egg and began to hold off the few Gnolls that got past Tambori. Chance and Fortune ranged a bit, preferring to meet their challengers aggressively. The Two Aristi’s proving to be just as deadly as their name suggests. Faedrin stood guard with Irezumi at the Egg, only occaisionally having to use her shield to block an arrow, or make a few cuts against the lucky gnoll that managed to avoid the others.
It took only a few moments, before the Gnolls were gone, and shortly after, Echo drove his sword through the Basilisks skull, and rode the body down as it collapsed. He removed his blindfold as he returned to his party. He nodded to Fortune and Chance, and the twins picked up the egg, and placed it in the Safe zone, ending the task.
