Guns will only be sold to adults.
'PD' means Pending Deal. Crossed off items are sold.
All negotiations are done prior to pickup.

For all the great traders out there, thank you! All Reasonable offers will be accepted. Only trade of interest is a Inokatsu MK46.
Guns will only be sold to adults.

2024.04.03 04:54 ZestyLimeToday One month HCLFLP update and questions
| I've been restricting PUFA for 8 months now, which cured almost all of my health issues with the exception of insulin resistance. I'm currently 1.5 years postpartum. I had gestational diabetes which turned into prediabetes 2-3 months postpartum. When I tested my fasting insulin 4 months ago, it was about 14 with a fasting glucose of 87 which produced a HOMA-IR of 3.0. So I went on HCLFLP to try and fix my insulin resistance. I lost just over 22 lbs restricting PUFAs (My BMI was 27.5 when I started). I've lost another 6.5 lbs one month of doing HCLFLP. See a graph of my weight loss below but basically my weight has been falling off a cliff on this diet (BMI currently 23). Each line represents 5kgs on the y-axis. - You can see my weight steadily decreasing since going PUFA free.
- Just before the colonoscopy I went pretty low fat and low protein and also had a lot of jell-o but my weight rebounded when I went back to my normal diet.
- In Jan Feb my parents cooked a lot during a busy period so I was pretty much eating MCMFMP with olive oil/coconut oil and lots of chicken so my weight loss stalled completely.
My weight loss graph since last year My HCLFLP diet is mostly steamed potato, steamed sweet potato, rice, potato glass noodles for starch (though I ate quite a lot of corn at the beginning). And things like kimchi and spices for flavouring. I have the occasional natto. Some fruit. And 200mL of 0.3% fat milk and half an egg every second day. I also eat a serving of beef once a week. Some observations for the initial month: - At first I found it really hard to not snack in between meals but it's much much better now.
- I have a lot more energy and not feeling tired at night at say 10pm or so (this was before I started HC). I used to need a nap every second day (when I first started restricting PUFA) to feeling good now on much less sleep.
- I always get REALLY hungry any time my blood glucose drops below 90 during the day. Like if I don't eat now I'm going to faint kind of feeling.
- I had sooo much bloating when I first tried to eat an all potato meal but now my body seems to have adapted.
- I have bloating sometimes when I'm really hungry just before a meal. Or at least I have back pain that I associate with bloating when I'm super hungry, I'm not sure why.
Blood glucose observations: - My blood glucose is not really improving at all. In fact my estimated HbA1c (from CGMs) is looking worse than before I started this diet. Maybe from 5.4% to 5.8%.
- My spikes were not all that high before (basically all under 150) but now I can get 180 spikes after a particularly carb rich meal and especially right before menstruation.
- My blood glucose seems able to go under 90 during the day now (almost always in the 80s before lunch). Before starting this diet I seemed to only be able to achieve this overnight.
- Blood glucose A LOT more responsive to even light exercise. When I wake up in the morning and start moving around, my blood glucose always dips quite suddenly. So unfortunately this can make my fasting blood glucose look good when it really isn't. Like, it could be close to 100 when I wake up but as soon as I start moving around it could dip to 85 or even 82.
- Exercising during after about 3pm doesn't really help blood glucose. Blood glucose always dips really suddenly as long as I'm exercising but always goes back up as soon as I stop.
The dexcom clarity web app is playing up so I can't retrieve any of my data and the app won't let me take screenshots so here's a photo of my phone. It's my blood glucose (in mmol/L) for the past 24 hours taken this morning just before breakfast (to be fair it was a particularly bad day). The shaded area goes from 54 mg/dL to 180 mg/dL. - Pretty self-explanatory when breakfast, lunch, and dinner were given the various spikes immediately afterwards.
- I exercised after dinner and you can see the massive dip just after the third peak but it went back up to 128 and descended so slowly that I only reached the 100 threshold at 5am.
https://preview.redd.it/96neb8z7i6sc1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2dc2e901c48f69816957e94af2249ba912e11862 I'm at a bit of a loss as what to do now. I really expected my blood glucose to look better by now. However, I'm really feeling great. The hunger and tiredness after meals/tiredness in general that I've associated with insulin resistance are gone. Plus, I'm losing SO much weight I can't possibly be THAT insulin resistant? I was hoping to make it to two months HCLFLP before testing for my fasting insulin again because the health system here doesn't like us testing too often and is not likely to approve it. (I could pay for it privately though). Any insights? Should I stop HCLFLP for now because my blood glucose isn't ideal? submitted by ZestyLimeToday to SaturatedFat [link] [comments] |
2024.04.01 16:19 pboone0 Help with improving code
Hey everyone, first complete arduino project here, looking for some tips on how to improve it slightly.
Working with an arduino uno, HC-sr04, tmc2208 stepper driver, a nema17 stepper, and some custom built parts. I have a box that holds two dog food bowls. When the dogs approach, the HC-SR04 is mounted in such a way that it will register my dogs, but is too tall to pick up cats, so their fat asses can't get into the dog food. Drawer stays open for 3 min, then shuts. This has been working perfectly for a week or two.
What I'd like to do: before the door shuts, I want to take another measurement and if the dogs are still vaguely close (ie less than 100-150cm) I want it to delay another two minutes, then re-check distance and close if they are not nearby.
Here is my current working code: (edit - removed references to LED, these were there for testing the basic code before the steppedriver arrived.)
//this is the current working basic drawer on the uno - don't change this. 3 min delay. // define the pins #include //#include #define TRIGGER_PIN 12 #define ECHO_PIN 11 #define MAX_DISTANCE 200 // Maximum distance we want to measure (in centimeters). #define EN_PIN 7 //enable #define STEP_PIN 8 //step #define DIR_PIN 9 //direction NewPing sonar(TRIGGER_PIN, ECHO_PIN, MAX_DISTANCE); // NewPing setup of pins and maximum distance. void setup() { { Serial.begin(115200); } //set pin modes pinMode(EN_PIN, OUTPUT); // set the EN_PIN as an output digitalWrite(EN_PIN, HIGH); // deactivate driver (LOW active) pinMode(DIR_PIN, OUTPUT); // set the DIR_PIN as an output digitalWrite(DIR_PIN, LOW); // set the direction pin to low pinMode(STEP_PIN, OUTPUT); // set the STEP_PIN as an output digitalWrite(STEP_PIN, LOW); // set the step pin to low digitalWrite(EN_PIN, LOW); // activate driver } // This function sets the number of steps, the direction and the speed // steps: a full rotation requires 1600 steps // direction: 1 = clockwise, 0 = anticlockwise // speed: number of microseconds between each step, min 100 void rotateMotor(int steps, bool direction, int speed) { // Set the motor direction digitalWrite(DIR_PIN, direction); // Step the motor for (int i = 0; i < steps; i++) { digitalWrite(STEP_PIN, HIGH); delayMicroseconds(speed); digitalWrite(STEP_PIN, LOW); delayMicroseconds(speed); } } void loop() { delay(50); // Wait 50ms between pings (about 20 pings/sec). 29ms should be the shortest delay between pings. int distance = sonar.ping_cm(); // Send ping, get distance in cm and print result (0 = outside set distance range) Serial.print("Distance: "); Serial.print(distance); Serial.println("cm"); if ((distance<38) && (distance!=0)){ rotateMotor(1800,1,1000); // open delay(180000); rotateMotor(1800,0,1000); // close delay(1000); } } ```
I have tried adding another if statement within my void loop, but when I run this code it registers, opens, but then never begins measuring again and never closes. Any thoughts on what I'm missing? Here's the relevant code. Nothing outside of void loop has changed. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?
void loop() { delay(50); // Wait 50ms between pings (about 20 pings/sec). 29ms should be the shortest delay between pings. int distance = sonar.ping_cm(); // Send ping, get distance in cm and print result (0 = outside set distance range) Serial.print("Distance: "); Serial.print(distance); Serial.println("cm"); if ((distance<38) && (distance!=0)){ rotateMotor(1800,1,1200); // open delay(5000); //5 sec delay for testing int distance = sonar.ping_cm(); // Send ping, get distance in cm and print result (0 = outside set distance range) if ((distance<150) && (distance!=0)){ delay(5000); } else{ return; }; } rotateMotor(1800,0,1200); // close delay(1000); }

2024.03.23 14:52 yagellaaether Robot not backing up properly, and serial monitor exhibiting chaotic behavior
Im trying to recreate
SCRU-FE Robot with my arduino UNO and L293D shield. But i have some problems with it.
When the robot encounters obstacles, it's supposed to back up before reorienting itself. However, I've noticed that it often fails to do so reliably.
Here's a brief overview of the setup:
- Arduino Uno microcontroller
- L293D motor shield for motor control
- HC-SR04 Ultrasonic sensor
- Two DC motors for movement
I've tried adjusting the code to ensure that the robot backs up properly when an obstacle is detected, but I haven't been successful so far. I suspect there might be issues with the motor control logic or sensor readings.
Additionally, I've noticed that the serial monitor output exhibits chaotic behavior at times. The data displayed becomes disorganized, and the robot sometimes freezes up altogether without giving any additional information about the sensor's readings. Is my code flawed in any way?
Here's the code:
#include
#include #define echoPin A2 #define trigPin A3 #define leftMotorPin 1 #define rightMotorPin 2 #define MIN_DISTANCE 9 #define MAX_DISTANCE 18 #define TURN_DELAY 1000 #define SERVO_CENTER_ANGLE 150 #define SERVO_RIGHT_ANGLE 90 #define SERVO_LEFT_ANGLE 300 AF_DCMotor motorsol(leftMotorPin, MOTOR12_64KHZ); AF_DCMotor motorsag(rightMotorPin, MOTOR12_64KHZ); Servo servo1; long duration; unsigned long previousTime = 0; const unsigned long delayTime = 100; void setup() { Serial.begin(9600); servo1.attach(10); pinMode(trigPin, OUTPUT); pinMode(echoPin, INPUT); motorsol.setSpeed(160); motorsag.setSpeed(160); servo1.write(SERVO_CENTER_ANGLE); } void loop() { unsigned long currentTime = millis(); if (currentTime - previousTime >= delayTime) { previousTime = currentTime;
int frontDistance = measureDistance(); if (frontDistance > MAX_DISTANCE) { Serial.println("Moving forward"); moveForward(); } else if (frontDistance < MIN_DISTANCE) { Serial.println("Moving backward until clear"); moveBackwardUntilClear(); Serial.println("Determining direction"); determineDirection(); } else { Serial.println("Determining direction"); determineDirection(); } } // Other non-blocking tasks can be performed here } int measureDistance() { digitalWrite(trigPin, LOW); delayMicroseconds(2); digitalWrite(trigPin, HIGH); delayMicroseconds(10); duration = pulseIn(echoPin, HIGH); return duration / 29 / 2; } void moveForward() { motorsol.run(FORWARD); motorsag.run(FORWARD); } void moveBackward() { motorsol.run(BACKWARD); motorsag.run(BACKWARD); } void stopMotors() { motorsol.run(RELEASE); motorsag.run(RELEASE); } void moveBackwardUntilClear() { unsigned long startTime = millis(); moveBackward(); // Start moving backward while (millis() - startTime < 100000) { int currentDistance = measureDistance(); if (currentDistance >= MIN_DISTANCE) { stopMotors(); return; } } stopMotors(); } void determineDirection() { stopMotors();
servo1.write(SERVO_CENTER_ANGLE); delay(300); int rightDistance, leftDistance;
servo1.write(SERVO_RIGHT_ANGLE); delay(300); rightDistance = measureDistance(); delay(100);
servo1.write(SERVO_LEFT_ANGLE); delay(300); leftDistance = measureDistance(); delay(100);
if (rightDistance > leftDistance) { Serial.println("Turning right"); turnRight(); } else { Serial.println("Turning left"); turnLeft(); } } void turnRight() { motorsag.run(BACKWARD); motorsol.run(FORWARD); delay(TURN_DELAY); } void turnLeft() { motorsag.run(FORWARD); motorsol.run(BACKWARD); delay(TURN_DELAY); }

2024.03.23 10:50 AppropriateRaise8533 Nedd help with arduino obstacle Avoidance Robot
Hello guys, I need help with this project. I have been trying to build an obstacle avoidance robot. it works well, but my problem is that when moving forward, the robot collides with the wall in full speed before it stops and check for obstruction, heres the code below

2024.02.12 12:58 dtransposed I Completed The David Goggins Challenge And Asked My Garmin How I Did
David Goggins is an interesting personality. From my perspective, he's one of those figures you either love or hate. I'm impressed by his perseverance and drive, but his life and fitness philosophy don't appeal to me much. I guess my attitude resonates more with "zen-like" runners, such as Anton Krupicka, Scott Jurek, or Eliud Kipchoge. Goggins' bestseller, "Can't Hurt Me," sits on my library shelf, but the bookmark is stuck somewhere in the middle. Sadly, I have no intention of advancing in the lecture.
Still, the idea of completing the infamous David Goggins challenge has always appealed to me. Despite my lukewarm approach toward its inventor, the challenge offers a unique way to try oneself in a different running "dimension." The challenge is simple: run 4 miles (6.5 kilometers) every 4 hours, across 48 hours. This means going for a run, resting for about three hours (the four-hour difference is counted between the start of each run), rinse, and repeat. No matter the time of day or weather. Fun fact: when you do the math, the challenge is the equivalent of running almost two marathons within two days.
I've been toying with the idea of completing the David Goggins challenge for several months now. Finally, November 2023 gave me a great opportunity to take it up. The preceding month, October, was pretty hectic. I finished the Berlin marathon (you can read my running report
here) and climbed Kilimanjaro a week later. In late November, I was well-rested and eager for a new challenge – something grandiose yet doable. Ideally something I could take up just a stone's throw from my apartment. Perfect time for the David Goggins Challenge.
Preparation
Over the years, I've learned that preparations for any type of physical challenge are important. Equally crucial, however, is keeping it simple and concise. So, I spent one afternoon writing down the plan and getting myself ready:
- Conducted short research on Reddit to learn how others approached the challenge.
- Allocated 48 hours solely for David's challenge, daily chores, and rest while watching two series simultaneously: "Jazz" by Ken Burns and HBO's "Rome" (rewatching it after more than a decade; still stands out as one of my favorite series ever).
- Bought snacks, fruits, and, most importantly, ingredients to prepare eight large servings of spaghetti carbonara—my favorite running food. Full of carbs and protein, easy to prepare and digest.
- Wrote down my schedule in Notion and set up a series of alarms on my Garmin accordingly.
- Moved to a separate room, sparing my fiancée the burden of being woken up twice every night for two consecutive days.
- Prepared three sets of running clothes in advance, including a waterproof Goretex jacket, a headlamp for night runs, headphones, etc. It's crucial, especially at night, not to waste time looking for fresh clothes (as it deduces minutes from the sleep time).
The Challenge: The Subjective
Contrary to what I read before completing the challenge, it is not as hardcore as Goggins himself. The runs themselves are not physically brutal. I think that 4 miles is a very forgiving distance, even when completed repeatedly, a dozen times. I may have had the advantage of always making sure that I got at least some sleep at night, as well as taking care of nutrition (hail carbonara!). Quite honestly, the most difficult part was waking up at night, getting dressed, and jogging into the darkness. This was especially problematic during the second night of the challenge. Running at night, soaking wet, through the empty park made me truly appreciate the day runs. The first 8:00 am run in the sun after three days of running in the dark was glorious.
In hindsight, one thing that I should have done is stretch more. As I mentioned before, the physical load your body has to bear is equivalent to two marathons. My constantly stiff (yet not painful) legs were begging for a stretching and rolling session. Also, at the end of the last few runs, my back and shoulders got super stiff and started to hurt a bit. But I was too busy eating or doing daily chores to properly take care of my muscles (David Goggins: were you too busy, or are you making up excuses, boy? Me: you're probably right, David, I am a mere slave trapped in the cage made of excuses).
The Challenge: The Objective
After completing the challenge, I was super eager to pull the data from my Garmin and see what the data reveals about my runs. Surprisingly, this is not a trivial task. Initially,
I thought that every workout tracked by Garmin was being saved locally on my watch, but this is so not true! To retrieve your data as files, you need to first sync your device and send the data to Garmin servers through Garmin Express. Only then, using
Garmin Connect, can you download a .csv data summary of your workouts from the website - but this data is super limited!
Contrary to what you might expect, the workouts cannot be fully pulled locally from the watch. Well, you know how the saying goes: "not your key, not your coin"; I'd say "yes, your watch, but no, not your data." To get your hands on your .fit workout files, you need to explicitly ask Garmin to share them with you. This takes a few hours up to a few days until you receive an email message from the company with the link to your data. Only then, using some open-source libraries such as
fitdecode or
fitparse, may you attempt to parse out the data that interests you and start gaining some insight from it. I built a small
script that takes a set of .fit files from my running workouts and converts them into a human-readable dataframe.
Note: In theory, .fit files should be exhaustive and contain all the information that your Garmin watch has access to. Sadly, I couldn't find some crucial information such as the number of calories burned, training load, or dehydration level. I know that Garmin does store them somewhere since I can find them (and many, many more items) in my Garmin Connect mobile app dashboards. Nevertheless, I managed to pull out crucial data about my run and inspect it using
this simple notebook.
(yeah, this write-up is also intended who people who can code :))
Diagram 1 Each of the twelfth inclined red lines represents a distance of 4 miles (6.5 km). Between the start of each run, there are 4-hour gaps. As demonstrated by the chart, my first run started on 11/22/23 at 19:00, and the challenge was finished with the final run at 16:00 on 11/24/23. To compute the average pace, I converted the speed from default units (meters per second) to runner-readable pace (minutes per kilometer). It turns out that my pace was not steady at all, as it would be if I were running a marathon, for example. I was having fun: going faster when I felt like it or slowing down. This amounted to an average pace of around 6 min/km, indicating that every 4-mile run took me around 40 minutes.
Diagram 2 The heart rate also reflects the fact that I was running "by feeling." The data shows that during the challenge, my minimal heart rate was 76 bpm, my average heart rate was 150 bpm, and my max heart rate was 180 bpm. These are very plausible and non-surprising numbers. An interesting fact: the further in I am in the challenge, the bigger the variance in speed/heart rate. It clearly shows that I was much more fatigued, unfocused, and rather dragging my body than running in a composed manner.
Diagram 3 Another piece of data being saved is the latitude and longitude information from the built-in GPS. Funny enough, by default, Garmin saves latitude and longitude in the
obscure "semicircle" units. Not sure what the use case for this representation is, so converted semicircles to degrees. So now, it is clear that I was located roughly at 51°N 17°E at the time of the run (which you can check by looking those coordinates up).
That's all the valuable information that I was able to get from my Garmin .fit files for this challenge. I managed to pull information about the running cadence or running power, but that's not really interesting. It's a shame; we know for a fact that Garmin collects tons and tons of items, even most exotic data, like estimated sweat loss.
In summary, completing the David Goggins Challenge provided a unique and demanding experience. The subjective aspects highlighted physical challenges, especially during nighttime runs, while the objective (sparse) data from my Garmin revealed insights about my pace or heart rate. The overall experience was enlightening and rewarding, showcasing the intersection of physical and mental endurance.
I also shared this report on my
website.

First Previous Note: I skipped the last update schedule again because... well... I thought I could make it. But, December 31 is the time for spiked choccy milk and I might have been a bit unwise with my portion control. The next thing I knew, I woke up beside a dakimakura of a friend's fursona.
Memory Transcription Subject: Tresn, Arxur villager
Date [Human Standard Reckoning]: 2136-12-14
I surfaced from the depths of my slumber before the village alarm came off. Still groggy, I remained on the bed with my eyes closed, embracing the stillness. As I felt my surroundings I sensed a familiar warmth against me. The fan's breeze above me caressed my scales and I shuddered, holding the human tighter. This place has a cooler climate despite its position on the equator. The scent of a human filled the air and I took a deep breath and savored my mate's unique musk. Despite light years of void and a million years of evolution separating us... he smells enticing. Others echoed my sentiment too. For example, Zoghen remarked that she found human women to smell agreeable.
I also noticed that diet also influences someone's odor. I recalled Johan, an odd human with a venlil mate. He eschewed eating meat, and so I found his scent less appealing to my senses.
The gentle stirring of Jago nudged me from my thoughts about scents. I opened my eyes at last and gazed upon the latching human still sleeping beside me. My paw traced his arms, past his dragon tattoo, another human peculiarity. My claw dragged past his soft skin, through a band of hard material, and onto his cybernetic arm. The piece of technology looked like a biological limb unless you touched it. My government derided this piece of technology, seeing it as a weakness. But seeing the feat of strength he exhibited with it, made me consider it. It does have other advantages too. Unlike him, I couldn't use my prostheses all the time.
I've floated the idea of cybernetic legs and Jago said that he had sent it through the appropriate channel.
As sleepiness tried to overcome me, I looked at the large window to the room. The frosted glass allowed some fading light of the setting sun to come through. Its deep red signaled the evening's approach. I tried to hold onto Jago and almost returned to my slumber. But, the siren's blare from the room's sound system woke him up. The human disentangled himself from our embrace and sprung into action. Jago told me that his work in the Emergency Response Center had trained him to get ready whenever. Still, it never ceases to amaze me how he could go from such deep sleep into wearing his one-piece fabric with practiced ease.
I sat up and brought myself to the edge of the bed and Jago tossed several garments towards me. First I attached the protective cladding to my stumps before slipping them into my prosthetic legs. I then wore the belt around my waist and secured the prostheses' straps onto it.
As I stood up I felt a sense of wholeness.
In the meantime, Jago had pulled a waistcloth from the wardrobe. I could wear it myself of course, but to have someone tie it around me felt... good.
"You know," Jago said as he pulled the waist clothes strap above my tail and wrapped it back again. "There might be a surprise today."
"What kind of surprise?" I asked.
"You'll know it when you see it." He smirked.
Stepping outside, we joined other arxurs heading towards the dining hall. Like me, they have at least waist clothes covering their groin. Some others decorated themselves with vests or necklaces. The Dominion ridiculed this as an antiquated practice. But now that I think of it, what differences do we have from animals, if we don't cloth ourselves?
When I arrived, conversation filled the hall. A bunch of arxurs already stood in a queue with a tray in their paws. Most of us villagers here had embraced the shift from raw to cooked meat. Most of us liked the taste, and it does have its advantages. It feels more filling to them and the ease of the digestion means that they don't feel as sleepy as eating raw meat. Beyond that, I see it as another symbol of liberation from the Dominion's oppressive control.
Of course, that doesn't mean we abstain from all raw diets. To our surprise, humans too had dishes of raw meat in their cuisine such as Yukhoe or Kitfo. We had experimented with these recipes. The mixing of eggs, a delicacy back in the day, elevated the dish. The addition of spices seemed to add things that we felt missing from the pitiful slop we had in the Dominion. Since we use in-vitro meat for our raw diet we have also wiped out most of the risk that could come from the pathogen.
As Jago and I joined the queue for our meal, my gaze landed on a familiar human woman. She saw me too and waved her hand at us. Beside her, Taksak and his young charge, Ivan, sat in quiet conversation. Even though Snop had free access to our village, her visits always had a purpose. The last time she came here, she checked and serviced my prosthetics. I wondered what she had for us this time, and I remembered Jago's earlier hint of a "surprise".
Approaching their table, I noted the three vacant seats beside them. Taksak and the others had waited for us to start their meal.
"Hiya folks," Snop greeted us as we took our seats. It turned out that one of the seats had an occupant already. I almost sat on Sosis, Taksak's pet biawak.
Before we began to eat, Ivan led us in a prayer. Around his neck, he had a leather necklace with a long, curvy tusk as its pendant. I knew it as a trophy from his rite of passage. The once-boy, now a young man, didn't come out of his hunt unscathed. An eyepatch covered one of his eyes.
"Tod kst," Ivan concluded, his gaze shifting as he adjusted to his new perspective. The young arxurs had to dart his pupils more often to compensate for the lack of a second eye.
"I still need time to get used to seeing with one eye," he commented.
"You don't need to get used to it." Snop chimed in. "We can fit you with a bionic eye in the future."
"Has Elangkasa's superior said anything about the result of Ivan's hunting." I nibbled on a cube of the roasted liver.
"The humans weren't too thrilled," Taksak said, as he glanced at the young arxur. "They insist on using projectile weapons next time."
"I hope they don't require us to use..." I stopped, searching for the word. "What do you call those throwable spears?"
"Javelin." Jago supplied. "You can ask them to provide you with a crossbow."
"I apologize, sir. I slipped up." Ivan said. "The next arxurs doing their first hunt can do it better."
"You need to listen better." Taksak's tone sounded firm yet caring. "The human guide did tell you to stay put. But you jumped out anyway. Count yourself lucky that you lost an eye. The boar might have gored your neck."
The young arxur winced and didn't say anything.
Turning to Snop, I asked, "So.... you come here to work on Ivan's eye?"
She smiled, "There's not much to design for the eye. But your legs on the other hand... I've heard that you wanted cybernetics?"
I looked at Jago, who had gone halfway through his bowl of meat and leaves. The human grinned at me.
"But... doesn't that cost a lot?" I asked, trying to temper my excitement. "I don't even have a bank account here."
"It does..." Snop nodded in agreement. "But, we want to test our cybernetic technology with arxurs. So... see... you can provide an opportunity for us both."
I chewed my meal a bit faster.
After our lunch. We paid a visit to Dr. Rahil's clinic. As we approached its doors, I felt a mix of apprehension and excitement. Upon entering, the strong scent of antiseptics greeted us.
"Well... hello th-." Dr. Rahil began, but then her eye snapped to Taksak. "You better not bring any snakes here again."
"I checked your internet." He put the biawak in his arm on the floor. It scampered out of the clinic. "You humans keep snakes as pets. I thought you were afraid of them?"
"Not the venomous ones, though." Rahil answered, "Not usually." She added. The doctor then turned her attention to us. "So... look who we have here, the bionic recipients."
In hindsight, it should not surprise me that Dr. Rahil already knew about this. The humans must have talked with each other in the background.
"We'll conduct assessments for both of you," she explained. "We need to ensure your bodies can receive bionic enhancements. Then we can proceed to surgery at a facility in Bandung."
"Oh, you're not going to operate on us here?" I asked.
The human snorted as she gestured around his small clinic. "Look at this place. Your surgery requires tools we don't have here."
"Yeah, and you need a proper hospital to manage the risk," Jago added.
"Your mate is correct." Dr. Rahil agreed. "We need to keep an eye on infection, rejection, and any other complications. We can address that in a better-equipped hospital. But like I said, first we need to ensure that your body can undergo the surgery."
I felt a twinge of anxiety, but I pressed forward. "Well... let's get this over with then."
Dr. Rahil first turned her attention to Ivan. She examined his eye socket, measuring the dimensions. The doctor also tested the surrounding muscle responsiveness. She projected a diagram on a blank space in the clinic wall to explain how the bionic eye would interface with Ivan's nerve.
For me, the doctor made a more extensive assessment. Dr. Rahil conducted a series of scans to test the nerve endings in my stumps, ensuring they could interface with the bionic fit. I can connect to them via wireless, but a direct connection would improve the integration. She measured my lower body, noting muscle mass and density for the calibration of the bionic legs. She even had me do a range of motion tests, observing how I maneuvered with my current prosthetics.
"Yeah, you both can proceed." Dr. Rahil concluded at the end of our session. "Elangkasa will inform you of the schedule."
"Will that odd venlil surgeon do the surgery?" Taksak asked.
"Oh yeah, Vani!" I said. "He operated on you didn't he?" I looked at the old arxur.
"Vani has returned to his homeworld now," Snop said. "You would have a human surgeon doing it."
"I wish you folks luck." Said Dr. Rahil as she pushed us out of her clinic. "Good evening and goodbye."
Emerging from the clinic, The comforting embrace of twilight greeted me. The sun had slipped beyond the horizon. In its place, a network of soft, amber lights bathed the village. We picked this light to mimic the luminescence of our far sun at night back in the homeworld. As night fell, the village stirred into life. Here and there villagers performed various tasks. It ranged from intricate crafting to the meticulous upkeep of our shared habitat.
A familiar voice interrupted my contemplation. "Taksak! Tresn! There you are!"
A human approached us with a wide stride. They have a lopsided mane and confusing scent. "How'd the tests go?" they inquired.
"Dr. Rahil cleared us," I responded, feeling a mix of relief and anticipation. "Both Ivan and I."
"That's great," Elangkasa beamed before their expression turned more serious. "But... I need to speak with you and Taksak in private."
"Can I invoke mate's privilege?" Jago asked.
Elangksa considered it for a while. "You can't. Only these two can come right now."
"Well, I tried." My mate exchanged a look of understanding with Snop before he shrugged. "I suppose Ivan can go with us." The human continued.
"I can go alone!" Ivan said with an annoyed edge in his voice. "I'm a man now."
"Okay, then young man." Said Snop. "Do you want to work some leather?"
"Oooh! Yes!"
We parted ways, with Taksak and I following Elangkasa to their office. Upon entering, we found a human woman already waiting for us. The style of her fabric marked her as a member of the human armed forces. In fact... I know her.
"Lieutenant Ayu?" I said.
"She came here to disclose some information," Elangkasa explained. "What we are about to say must remain on the wall of this room. Everyone will know the truth later but for now... I need your cooperation."
"Heh." Taksak chuckled. "We keep a lot of secrets our entire life. What's one more?"
"But why us? Though?" I asked.
"Taksak had become the de facto village chief by now." Said Elangkasa. "As for you... well, you have kept a lot of extra secrets since your crashland on Earth."
"Is this about the Dominion?" I asked, wondering what kind of new secret the humans have in store. "Have you figured out why they didn't switch to growing meat in-vitro?"
"It's interesting that you would ask that," Lieutenant Ayu raised her eyebrows. "We found something more damning, but we would reveal that to the public later."
She crossed her arms in front of her. "What we would talk about starts with the manipulation the Federation did to the omnivores. You know about that don't you?"
Lieutenant Ayu's expression caught my attention. What she said hinted at a revelation far more significant than any we had encountered. The Federation's manipulation of omnivorous dietary habits was already a groundbreaking scandal. But, her tone suggested that we have deeper, more disturbing truths waiting for us.
"I do," I responded, my mind flashing back to an interview with the Kolshian Chief. There we learned about the Federation's genetic alterations. They caused meat allergies in omnivores, pushing them towards a plant-based diet. "I know of the scandal. Are you suggesting there's more to this, perhaps even involving our genes?"
"No, your government inflicted genetic modifications on your own species," Ayu clarified. "But... wouldn't you want to see what your people looked like before your government's 'Betterment' policy?"
This piqued Taksak's interest. "Keep talking, human," he urged.
Leaning in, Lieutenant Ayu's voice sounded fainter. "We sent some infiltrators. They found that the Federation may still have extensive records and data from their genetic experiments."
I wondered if this could mean the infiltrators had also accessed the Dominion's own genetic experiments.
"As we delved deeper," Ayu continued, "we discovered a disturbing truth. Before releasing their so-called 'cure,' the Federation conducted tests on abducted individuals. We found evidence that they have done this for centuries. We found records of some humans from as far back as a hundred and 150 years in cryogenic suspension. They had done this long before our first contact with them."
A heavy silence followed her words, the implications of which sent a shiver through me.
"They captured arxurs too, didn't they?" I asked, a sense of dread settling over me.
Ayu nodded, confirming my worst fears.
"How many of our people from before the Betterment era are still preserved?" Taksak pressed.
"Less than twenty," Ayu disclosed. "And the number is dwindling. The Federation's attempts at an alternative diet for these individuals have been catastrophic. They lack the comprehensive understanding of nutritional science necessary to sustain them. This resulted in many fatalities."
I imagined the Federation researchers subjected my ancestors to cruel experiments. It would fill me with simmering rage, if not for what I did on the farm.
"But humans can survive without meat, can't they?" I interjected.
"We can," Ayu conceded, "but only with the aid of synthetic supplements. Which they didn't know and didn't give. A lot of humans died too under their hands."
Taksak's resolve hardened. "We must rescue them. These ancestors of ours could hold the key to reversing centuries of damage inflicted on our society."
"We're already planning a rescue operation," Ayu revealed. "We have other arxur communities like yours on Earth. We intend to recruit a few individuals from each for this mission."
I glanced down at my prosthetics, contemplating the decision before me. "What's the timeline for this mission?"
"If you wish to join," Ayu cautioned, "it would mean postponing your surgery."
As I sat there, I remembered Jago's mention of a surprise earlier that day. Little did he, or I, know that the real surprise would extend far beyond me.

As I grew acquainted with Doctor Rehab, I found something in common with her. Unlike most of my people. They still harbored some aversion to humans thanks to centuries of propaganda. But for Doctor Rehab, the forward-seeing aliens did not faze her at all. Before her transfer to Java, she did work in India like Vani did. She attended to the injured humans after the bombardment, patching them up. I talked about our childhood once during lunch. I learned that Doctor Rehab, like myself, has escaped that dreaded P-word Diagnosis. We know now that the Federation had made up that condition to stigmatize any perceived un-herd-like behavior.
Thanks to the Federation meddling with our genes, we could not afford to perform direct surgery. Unlike venlils like Vani, even our necrologists preferred the distance afforded by telepresence. Doctor Rehab had mastered the art of remote surgery for years. I watched in awe when she demonstrated her skill in front of me and the human. She stitched back the skin of a delicate earth fruit known as a "grape". After witnessing this, I had no doubts about her competence.
Following Vani's departure I was the first to go under the operating table to get my new spleen, cloned with minor mutations. These spleens play a crucial role in blood production, a function we hoped to restore to its original state. We monitored all my conditions for the days after the procedure. As expected, I didn't have any rejection issues.
The others went soon after they found that my condition had stabilized with no signs of complications in the future.
This morning we underwent allergen tests. Breakfast followed the test, and then I attended a lecture. As a fresh graduate, I decided to continue my education here. The humans offered a wealth of knowledge I did not know existed before. Right now, they have not started their new education period. But they let me pick any lecture I want. Harad, a gojid farmer, shared my eagerness for learning and I saw him in the lecture on ecology.
As lunchtime arrived, Harad had disappeared, having embraced his newfound ability to digest meat. Encouraged by Cynthio the computer science lecturer the gojid made a controversial proposal. Harad suggested that we use him as a case study on the long-term effects of flesh consumption among gojids. Being a human with human interest, Sri from the School of Food Science found the proposal enticing. Despite the willingness of the subject, I sensed a reverse ethics dilemma brewing. The nature of the study will no doubt cause unrest in our community. Some of the gojid still think that by messing with our genes, the Federation had done something beneficial for us.
Trusting the humans to approach this with care, I pondered about lunch as I walked out of the class.
To accommodate us we need a cafeteria to cater nothing but plant-based diets, to avoid cross-contamination. To our surprise, the humans had established such a facility here in the university complex even decades before first contact. Joining my fellow gojids, I sat next to Bangnu, the construction worker.
"Oh, hi there, Doc," greeted Bangnu.
"I am not the only 'Doc' around anymore," I replied, nodding towards Doctor Rehab.
"Hello," Rehab chimed in. She ate her dessert before her main course. Judging from the texture and the smell it looked like a durian-based cold treat. "How did you feel after the allergen test this morning?"
"I almost forgot about it," I confessed. "I feel no itchiness, so I take it as a positive sign."
One of our companions looked downcast. "My skin's a bit itchy." She said, "Does this mean the cure didn't work for me?"
"It might take more time," I reassured. I tried to recall that gojid. "Did you not have an anaphylactic reaction before the treatment?"
"Oh...yeah, I did. That was pretty scary."
"Well then, that means the treatment works. Now you only have itchy skin. Instead of a life-threatening situation."
"Huh..." she scratched her arms. "You're right."
"Speaking of the cure..." Rehab conjured several documents onto the table surface. "I've received the test results," she announced. She then distributed the documents with a flick of her claw. One by one, the gojid around the long table loaded the document onto their pad and read it.
One man perked up. "Does 'negative' mean what I think? I didn't feel itchy either."
"Yes, it's a good sign," confirmed Rehab.
Turning to Rehab, I asked, "Are you planning to undergo the procedure too?"
"Indeed, I should have them tomorrow or the day after."
"But... who will operate on you?" Asked Bangnu.
"Well... who else but a human surgeon?"
Bangnu's spine bristled. "Are you out of your mind? A human performing surgery on you? They won't use remote surgery won't they?"
"Humans operated on other species all the time," Rehab explained. "They have professionals called veterinarians who operate on various species. We have no record of them consuming their patients."
"Besides, Humans prefer their flesh cooked." I pointed out, observing the disgust this remark caused among my peers, some of whom set down their spoons. "Now... you can not bring a stove into an operating room."
Refocusing the discussion, Rehab said, "I want this affliction removed. I've even cloned healthy ovaries to ensure my future offspring don't suffer as I do."
Bangnu chimed in again, "But shouldn't it fall to your children to choose to have their genes modified?"
"I have a severe allergy, like that woman" Rehab countered. "Without immediate hormone injections upon contamination, I will die. Do you wish this debilitating condition on my future offspring?"
The gojid construction worker hesitated, then conceded, "Yeah... I see your point. I sometimes forget that it's not about eating flesh."
"We are not going to start eating flesh, are we?" I interjected, trying not to imagine the sight of Harad cutting through a giant slab of sizzling seared flesh and putting a chunk of it into his mouth.
A chorus of gojids affirmed their continued abstinence. Some of them accompanied it with a gesture of assent to drill down their point.
A fellow gojid mentioned, "I've read about human religions where they see abstaining from meat as virtuous. We can draw inspiration from that."
"It is not as impressive as it sounded like," I added. "Humans do not have to suppress any urge to eat flesh... They are just like us."
"So... in essence, nothing about us has changed." Rehab completed.
"But Doc, what's the risk of complications during pregnancy?" a woman, the one who complained about still having an itch, asked. "Have you considered in-vitro gestation? Human bioreactors can create an entire person... can it?"
"On Earth, in-vitro gestation for sapient beings is still a debated and a prohibited practice," I said.
After lunch, I picked some classes that I found interesting and headed towards the building where it took place. But when I waited for a shuttle, a call from Pertiwi interrupted me.
"Greetings, Pertiwi," I answered. "What can I do for you?"
"Bolad, I need you to come to Busem's office right now," she urged. Her tone sounded like she was trying to hide some distress. "We need to discuss something important."
Pertiwi's urgent summons sparked a flurry of questions in my mind. What was she doing in Dr. Busem's office? What had become of the Zurulian, whose recent absence became more and more suspicious? Guided by my implant, I navigated towards Dr. Busem's office. Upon entering, I found Pertiwi alone. The room still featured the preserved remains of terran animals in jars all over the walls.
"Are you alright?" I asked, sensing the tension in the air. "Where is Busem?"
Pertiwi nodded, her expression somber. "I'm fine... we're fine. Look... it's about genome mapping and our allergy research. We're appointing you as the lead scientist, in place of Busem," she disclosed.
My concern deepened. "Where is the zurulian again?" I asked.
Pertiwi exhaled, her face etched with concern. "Dr. Busem will no longer practice medicine. It seems... we've missed some crucial signs."
"Please, explain," I urged, sensing the gravity of her words.
"You remember our study on genetic tampering in venlils, right?" she asked.
"Of course. We discovered markers in venlils identical to those in my people and other former omnivores." I replied, my mind racing with possibilities. "But we still keep this information confidential, do we not?"
"Yes, we still keep this under wraps. Vani revealed it to an academic on Venlil Prime, but no one else," she confirmed.
"So, what has happened since then?"
Pertiwi adjusted her pad on the stand, then turned the screen towards me. "See for yourself."
Judging from the height of the recording, it looked like it came from a human's perspective. It led me through a medical facility's hallway and stopped at a door. As it slid open, Dr. Busem, with his distinctive theodor backpack, appeared. He stood in front of a large metallic tank.
"It seems you have found me," Busem stated.
"I can't believe what you've done," the person behind the camera responded.
"Admit it, you want to see the result don't you?" Busem shot back.
"Any ethics committee will bar you from all biological fields after this." the camera operator continued. "Do you have anything to say?"
"Do what you must, human, for I have achieved my goal," Busem declared in the recording. "Your laws leave you no choice but to continue this."
The recording ended.
"By the Mother Protector," I gasped, realization dawning. "He gestated a venlil, didn't he? I remember his fascination with your bioreactors being able to gestate being."
"He did," Pertiwi said. Her voice sounded so tired. "Busem created a venlil embryo, free from Federation manipulations, and gestated it."
Astonished, I asked, "How did he manage to do this? The technical aspect I understand, but how did he get access to a bioreactor and find a willing operator?"
"He misled a zoo," Pertiwi began. "Claiming that he wants to resurrect an extinct species from Colia, his homeworld."
"And they let him use their facilities without verification?"
"We're investigating whether we can chalk this to negligence or collaboration. In any case, we have a diplomatic and legal headache facing us," she admitted with a frustrated click of her tongue.
"And the fetus?" I inquired.
"The bioreactor developed it at an accelerated pace. In over three weeks, it reached a stage where no Earth law permitted termination. Like Busem said, we have no choice but to see it through to birth," she explained.
"So, we need to inform the Venlils?"
"In due time. For now, our priority is ensuring the fetus's health. Now that we're at this point. We're committed to supporting its development until delivery," she stated.
Hesitating, I asked, "Whose genetic template did Busem use for this neo-Venlil?"
"We.... did ask him." Pertiwi bit her lip, her reluctance palpable. After a tense silence, she met my gaze.
"He used Vani's."

2023.12.29 21:15 surly73 Help finding bowl gasket for Poulan Pro snowthrower
FIXED: Honda GX generic bowl gasket from Amazon
Hi all - looking for a little bit of cross-reference/sourcing assistance so that I can help a neighbour with his snowthrower. I'm just a "handy homeowner" and I've never worked on these brands before.
Poulan Pro PR240 w/ 179cc engineEngine appears to be an LCT PW2HK18500178PABGOQUVE1M with a Huayi carb (didn't see any numbers visible on it while installed on the machine but I could be wrong)
This unit is a few years old but has barely been run. I've got it running just fine now but there is a fuel leak only when the engine is running which seems to be flinging out from the bowl gasket area. I've had the bowl off, gasket looks undamaged, and the bowl is not too loose or too tight, and it is properly oriented so the tabs on the bowl line up with the slots on the carb. The needle valve seems to operate and the carb is quite clean, the bowl is probably not overfilling.
I'd like to try changing just the bowl gasket and would love a little assistance finding only the part I need if possible. The parts diagram from the owners manual only shows the complete carb, or a carb "repair kit" which seems pricey (like $130-150), no one says what's in it, and there are no pictures.
The machine is back at the neighbour's but I could get my hands on it to verify gasket diameter if needed. Of course if there's something else I should specifically check first which would act like a bowl gasket leak but isn't, I'm all ears!
Thanks!

2023.12.14 20:41 throw_me_tumor_away What changes can/should I expect after having an adrenal gland extracted?
Hi everyone, this might sound weird but I'm beyond excited to finally have this gland-situation sorted, and I'd like to prepare for the aftermath.
For context, I'm a 32 yo caucasian female, 168 cm tall, 100 kg, fairly muscular, I do strength training 2x a week, follow a low carb diet and eat roughly 1700 kcal a day, and try to walk 30-40 km each week. I have hirsutism on my chin, neck, shoulder, around my nipples, and on my lower stomach. I have underdeveloped nipples and very small breasts, I always gain weight on my stomach first, and I have had high-ish (130-150 mmHg) blood pressure since elementary school.
This is the 6th endocrinologist seeing me, I have been previously diagnosed with insulin resistance and PCOS, and this was the first time a doctor suggested an ultrasound of my adrenal glands. I have had my gyn appointment the same day, and the conclusions are as follows: there are barely any cysts on my ovaries at this point, my reproductive organs are in prime health, my kidneys and liver show no problems. There is, however, a 20 mm diameter (I have no idea how they say this in English, so I'll try to mirror translate) low-echo? growth on my left adrenal gland, to which the US technician said that it is roughly 99%+ that it's a benign tumor, an adenoma, and the best course of action is to have it removed.
Following some quick research, all my symptoms suddenly made sense, and I was ecstatic to finally have a culprit identified, and looked up the possible lifestyle changes, or supplements I'd need to do following an operation, and what can I expect regarding my symptoms, but found little useful information.
So if any of you could please help me fine-tune my expectations (like, I don't expect to be a supermodel the next day, but I hope I'd lose weight, AND ALL THE CHIN HAIR OH MY GOD, and maybe have a little more feminine figure, although I'm a little concerned that now, above 30, this is a hopeless pursuit), what changes will I be able to see on the short and longer term, I'd be super grateful. I really don't want to hype myself up to something that will never happen, but I have a limited understanding of the neuroendocrine system, especially after the development phase well into adulthood. :)
Thank you so much in advance!

Memory transcription subject: Jones, Four Star General, United States Army
Date [standardized human time]: July 16th, 2136
“Given the situation on the border, I expect Russia to deploy BTGs along…”
The voice of General Baker faded out as I considered the ridiculousness of the entire situation. Russia and China were once again having a slap fight on their border, a tradition spanning back at least a century. There was no doubt the UN would intervene before it became anything of note, but the fact that these petty disputes happened at all was a disgrace on humanity.
Did World War Three not teach us anything? We thought we could get a leg up one another by knocking out satellites out of the sky. Low risk, high reward, no chance of any casualties. Next thing we knew, we had our nukes pointed at each other, fingers on the trigger. It took a literal divine intervention to prevent us from blowing ourselves up. You think that would humble us.
Instead, we still had to deal with
this, the petty bickering of nation states over issues that didn’t even matter in the first place. China and Russia fighting over their border, what was this, 1968? Not to mention the Levant, or Brazil, or-
“Jones?”
The abrupt voice of Baker interrupted my ruminations. All eyes in the conference room had turned to face me.
“Pardon, could you repeat that?” I feigned as if I misheard.
“I asked, what is your opinion on the current situation on the Russo-Sino border?” Baker repeated flatly.
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. “To be quite frank, I don’t even know why we're discussing this in the first place. We all know this will amount to nothing.”
The room gave me a stern look. “We can’t know that for sure, this is still an ongoing crisis.” Another general, Christen, remarked.
I almost wanted to scoff. “A ‘crisis’ that has been repeating for the last century now, one that always goes the exact same way.”
I stood up from my seat, and began circling the room. “Some Russians lose a bet, or get drunk, or god knows whatever reason, and decides to lob some shots over the border. The Chinese shoot back, everyone gets nervous for a couple of days, the UN comes in and shuts the party down, Zhao and Petrov go on TV repeating the same line about how we need to find ‘peaceful solutions’, and then the cycle repeats itself. Over, and over, and
over. And every time, we drag ourselves here, and act like World War Four is about to kick off, when it's the same thing every time: Petty
bullshit that won’t matter before the end of the week.”
The entire room stared at me as if I just declared undying allegiance to Chinese Communist Party.
“Are you finished, General?” Baker asked, with no small amount of ice in his voice.
I straightened out my suit, and took my seat again. “Yes, I am.”
They would never see my point of view, of course. These people, Baker, Christian, the politicians, the institutions, all of them benefited from this empty trade of words and lives. It was a sick, disgusting rot that lay at the heart of every palace and parliament we have built. And so many times, it felt as if I was one of the only few who could see it.
The meeting continued on like this, regarding the situation before us as if it wasn’t going to be overshadowed by celebrity trivia by the end of the week.
My thoughts were only interrupted when a knock came at the door. “General Jones?”
I turned to see the wide eyes of an aid stare directly at me through the doorway.
“You're interrupting an important meeting.” Baker lied through his teeth. As if this farce held any importance at all.
“I’m sorry to interrupt, but Meier has requested Jones' presence in New York,
immediately.”
Baker looked as if to object, before realizing he would be objecting to the demands of the General Secretary himself. He waved for me to leave, an opportunity I was more than willing to take.
“You're dismissed, Jones, better not leave the General Secretary waiting.” Baker sounded almost happy to be gone, after my little speech. To be fair, I was happy as well.
I didn’t bother leaving them with parting words, For I would have to respect those clowns in the first place. I hurried down the hallways of the Pentagon, anxious to see why Meier had requested my presence.
—--
The thrum of rotor blades carried through me as I watched ferries and cargo ships navigating the choppy waters below. Looking out to my left, the ever familiar skyline of Manhattan glittered in the evening light, One World still standing above it all. The streets below were filled with traffic, people moving about like ants among the grass. As we made a low pass over the Brooklyn Bridge, my destination came into view, standing as it always had for nearly two centuries.
As the pilot brought us gently down on the UN headquarter pad, I still wondered as to why Meier called me out here. No matter, I was to learn soon enough. More than anything, I was just grateful to be out of the dreadful meeting.
“Jones, glad to see you.” Meier smiled in a warm greeting as I opened the door. My old friend raised his hand, which I quickly moved to meet with a firm shake. Up close now, I could tell the secretary hadn’t properly slept in days.
“Good to see you too, Meier. What brings me out to New York today?”
The old man frowned. “Serious business unfortunately, but I rather wait until…” A gust picked up at his graying hair…”until we can get inside to discuss.”
“Understood.” As we walked towards the access stairwell, Meier carried himself with an uncharacteristic speed. Whatever was on his mind, it was clear he wanted it off as quickly as possible.
We descend the dimly lit stairwell briefly, footsteps echoing up and down the shaft, before we opened a door to a hallway. Fluorescent lights shone upon yellowed walls, on which hung centuries old paintings. The smell of musty carpet rose to greet my nostrils. No matter what, the UN headquarters was always happy to remind us of its age.
A minute of walking brought us to the Secretaries office at the end of the hall. With some effort, Meier pushed open the carved double doors, revealing the familiar looking office. Three floor to ceiling windows let light in from everywhere but the north, giving us great vantage over Brooklyn. Plush green carpet lay on the floor, complemented by the rather plain walls, upon which hung paintings of world landmarks. In the corner, the flag of the UN, along with that of the United States, hung from their poles in silence. And standing in the center,
speak of the devil… “Ah, General Jones, good to see you again.”
The smartly dressed People's Liberation Army General extended his hand in greeting, a gesture which I met. One of politeness and respect, but not of friendship. His face carried a visage of confidence, but I could tell he wondered why he was here as well. One of the few things that we shared in common.
“Zhao, I didn’t expect to see you again so soon.” Discussions on the re-ratification of the Treaty of Shanghai were to begin in October, bringing together most of the world's top leaders. It was one of the few times where I met my Chinese counterpart in person, unless a situation that required international cooperation arose. Looking at Zhao, it seemed we found ourselves in such a situation.
“Neither did I, but I feel we're about to learn why.” He shot a glance over to the now seated secretary.
“Yes,” Meier leaned forward in his chair, his face half shadowed in the dying light of the day, “I rather wish this was a friendly table-side chat, but these types of meetings never are, are they?”
The last time Meier brought us in like this was when tensions flared in the Levant back in 32. The United States and China scrambled forces to stabilize the situation, with me and Zhao at the lead. A moment of genuine international cooperation, moments that me and Meier had to relish.
Meier pulled a large bottle of whiskey from one of the desk drawers, along with three glasses. “Please, take a seat, and have a drink. You may need it.”
Zhao and I took our places. I wasn't in the mood, but Zhao took the secretary up on his offer. Meier seemed to take a moment to collect himself, letting the whiskey swirl in his glass. His eyes scanned over us, as if silently asking if we were prepared for what was to come. He seemed to come to an answer.
“Four days ago, we received word back from
Odyssey One, from their expedition of the Gliese 832 system. Upon observation of 832c, they discovered that the planet harbored life. Not just life, but sapient life. Jones, Zhao, we are not alone in this universe.”
Everything suddenly appeared so much smaller. A great silent constriction, as the entire world seemed to rush in around me. And then suddenly, clarity.
I stood up, and walked silently to the window. Outside, rush hour traffic had reached its peaks, seas of white and red moving like molasses along the roadways. Ferries and barges meandered their way up and down the east river, while flocks of bird weaved in between. Over the blazing lights of Brooklyn, among the clouds painted red by the dying sunlight, a spaceplane could been seen making its final approach to JFK.
This entire city, 10 million people, the center of the great American empire, was now just another speck upon the mote of dust we called Earth.
It seemed the great mystery that was marked by Signal Day had finally been solved. But what did that mean?
Did humanity matter?
“How many people know?” Zhao’s voice cut in, calm and collected as usual.
“Besides us, just President Dannister, General Secretary Liang, and a select few in Houston.”
I turned to face Meier directly. “And you said you knew four days ago. Why wasn’t there an immediate announcement?” The program sparked by that signal so long ago, a signal we built an entire holiday around, had finally completed its mission. I expected ticker tape parades, fireworks across the globe, not this. There had to be a good reason for the secrecy.
Meier sighed, as he took a draw of his glass. “We wanted to wait for a few days, let
Odyssey send back more information. And it turned out, that was the right move.”
Meier produced from his desk two binders, about as thick as my forearm and nearly as wide as my chest. From the security clearances pasted on the front, anybody under our rank would be liable to get shot if they even laid a single eye upon the contents inside.
“In here, you will find everything you will need to know about our new alien friends. This is highly confidential information, so ensure that it remains in your hands, and your hands only."
I looked at the stack of what must have been hundreds, if not thousands, of pages. I wasn't reading it in an hour, that was for sure.
"Can you give us a brief rundown of what we're stepping into here?"
Meier leaned forward slightly. "Long story short, most of it isn’t good.”
That didn't inspire confidence.
I hefted the binder into my hands, as did Zhao, and I seated myself once again. Flipping through the first couple pages, I was met with anatomical diagrams of an alien species that apparently called themselves the ‘Venlil’. They almost looked like sheep, if not for the fact that they stood on two stocky legs, and had a tail that stretched out for a foot at least.
Flipping forward again, I was met with what looked like a gray crocodile, an eighth foot tall crocodile with crimson eyes and six claws adorning each limb. They were apparently called the ‘Arxur’, and they looked like they could snap me in half like dry pasta.
Aliens upon aliens upon aliens. Some looked strikingly similar to animals found on earth, as if god got lazy and used the copy paste function. Others looked much more, well, alien.
Most of it isn't good? What was that supposed to mean?
“Is that why you had us come, Meier? Are we expecting an alien invasion within the next week?”
Meier didn’t laugh. In fact, his face was like a stone mountain, completely immovable. “That might very well be the case, if we don’t handle this right.”
I felt a slight pit open in my stomach.
“What do you mean?” Zhao inquired, his tone as smooth as ever.
Meier took another sip, setting his glass down loudly on the lacquer. “What I mean to say is that were walking into a minefield, one that could blow our legs off if we don’t tread carefully.”
“From the information sent by the
Odyssey crew, the galaxy is being fought over by two warring factions, the Galactic Federation and the Dominion. The Federation adheres to a particular
ideology, one that divides sapient species between 'predator' and 'prey'. And the Federation considers us 'predators'."
It wasn't difficult to determine which one of the two was supposed to be the bad one.
“So this 'Federation' considers dangerous then. The question is, how dangerous?” I asked, almost afraid of the answer. An entire galactic Federation, no doubt centuries ahead of the technological curve. If they wanted, they could probably curb-stomp us within the afternoon.
“Dangerous enough to have voted successfully to exterminate us 150 years ago.”
Scratch that, they did want to curb-stomp us.
I would have felt more shocked, if not for the obvious question that immediately came to mind. “Why didn’t they, then?”
Unless reality around us was a mirage, or this 'Federation' was
really bad at its job, we shouldn't even be here to discuss the possibility.
“Luck, basically. They thought we killed ourselves off in a nuclear war back in the 1990s, so they thought we did their job for them.”
Luck, the only reason we were here right now. A luck not marked by Signal Day.
But then that left another obvious question, one that Zhao managed to ask first.
“If this Federation wanted to kill us, and they now know that we survived, why haven’t they come to finish the job?”
Meier finished off his first glass, and poured himself a second. “Because I was being hyperbolic. It only seems like a small portion of the Federation wants us dead. From what they
Odyssey sent over, most of galaxy seems indifferent to us, and a small number of species even seem friendly.”
Somehow, knowing only a small portion of an entire intergalactic government was actively genocidal towards our existence did little to settle my concerns. Which begged the question:
“How do we know that these so-called ‘friendly’ aliens are actually friendly?”
Meier already seemed primed to answer that one. “The ones the expedition have talked to say they are opposed to the crazy ones, but that remains to be seen. In other words, we don’t know, but it's not like we have much of a choice but to trust them.”
Again, that did little to settle my nerves. Seemed like we had a lot of unknowns running here.
“And what about this ‘Dominion’,” Zhao inquired, as he stared down at his binder with concern, “what I am reading here about them is rather,
distressing.” Meier actually laughed. “Distressing is definitely one way to put it…” He downed nearly half of his second glass in one gulp.
Zhao had not made a peep when Meier mentioned a good portion of the galaxy would have us dead. The fact that he spoke up now did not bode well for the character of this 'Dominion'.
I flipped through the binder until I came upon the section I was looking for. I was again greeted with the image of a so-called Arxur, this time dressed in what appeared to be a set of robes overlain with ceremonial armor. In its claws it wielded what must have been a massive rifle, of anti material caliber no doubt.
I began skimming the paragraphs of text. Some words immediately began to spring out.
Honor based culture, okay,
obsessed with a form of race science known as Betterment, that raised plenty of red flags,
keeps sapients as slaves and cattle, thats-
WAIT. I re-read those last words over and over, making sure I didn’t just suffer a stroke.
Keep sapients as slaves and…cattle…did that mean…? “Do these fuckers eat people?” I somehow managed to whisper quietly.
I slowly raised my gaze until it was level with that of Meier's. The look he gave me told me all I needed to know.
I slowly turned my head to the right. Me and Zhao, in a moment that transcended animosity and ideology, shared a look of absolute bewilderment.
Race science obsessed space crocodiles,
who ate people. Space Nazis.
Who. Ate. People. I soon found myself pacing the room as I ran those words in my head over and over again. It was almost too ridiculous to believe that an institution so comically evil could actually exist in this plane of reality. I almost wanted to believe that Meier was joking, that this was all some sort of sick prank. But the dead look he gave told me that this was the truth, a truth we now had to deal with.
What in gods name were we getting ourselves into?
Christ, maybe I do need a drink. —--
After recovering from the psychic shock of
that revelation*,* we spent the rest of the meeting discussing some of the preliminary negotiations the expedition crew made with the ‘friendly’ aliens. I still wasn’t convinced of these aliens' honesty, given the organization they were a part of voted to have us reduced to ash. But Meier was right, we didn’t have a choice but to trust them.
Which was why we were organizing an in person meeting, with actual diplomats rather than scientists. No better way to determine these aliens' good faith than by talking to them in person. Or that was the hope, at least. And for the first time since I left West Point, I had homework to do. This galaxy had three hundred sapient species, and by the time we shot off to Gliese (or Skalga, as the locals apparently called it), I had to know them all. A daunting task, to say the least. At least learning about other species would distract me from
them. The less I thought about their existence, the better.
I should have only come away thinking we had stumbled into a nightmare. And we had, no doubt. But as I thought about our position more, I began to see a glint of an opportunity. I needed to discuss it with him.
Meier leaned over the railing overlooking the East river. A security detail stood off to the side, hawkish eyes seeming to scan everything. Ignoring their piercing stares, I walked up beside Meier, and stared out with him.
Boats and ferries intermingled in the water, off on journeys unknown. Their lights, along with those of the nighttime Brooklyn skyline, caused the river to reflect a burning orange. The sounds of lapping water and distance traffic met our ears, the sound of New York.
For a moment, we absorbed it all.
Just a day ago, this all seemed so big. The center of the world, New York City, the Big Apple. And now, it seemed like just another place.
And I found myself returning to that question.
“Does this matter, Meier? Do we matter?”
“Of course we do, Jones.” His answer was quick. Good.
“It was rhetorical.”
“Why did you want to meet?” He sounded tired. I didn't blame him.
“I thought it was obvious. We need to figure out what to do.”
“I already told you, we’re in talks with-”
My hand on his shoulder cut him off. I turned to face him directly. The night rendered half his face in shadow, the other half sodium orange. It was in that light that I stared at him.
“What was it you promised when you became General Secretary, Meier?”
The question was unexpected, but Meier was quick on the draw.
“I promised to put humanity first, of course.”
Exactly.
“A shared dream, one that we still fight for.” I turned back towards the river.
“You are among the few who recognized the rot, the factionalism, the pettiness, that lies at the heart of this world. It was why I supported you, Meier. We see what others cannot, or others refuse.”
Meier remained silent. A slight breeze began to stir.
“Humanity first, a humanity united under a single flag. It's what we fought for our entire lives. But despite how hard we fought, how hard we fight, the dream always seems out of reach."
Again, silence.
“But that's all changed now, hasn't it? What do nations matter, what do borders matter? All the arbitrary ways we have used to divide ourselves, they all fall away in the face of this new reality.”
A reality of a hostile galaxy. One divided among those who sought our death, and those whose very existence seemed to be pure evil manifest.
“We are stepping in a maelstrom, one that will sweep us away if we do not link arms and stand together as one. The galaxy has dealt us a terrible hand. But if we play our cards right, and if luck is on our side, then-”
“We can finally achieve that dream.” He finished for me.
It was ironic, how many times these aliens had saved us. Their mistake, that prevented our extermination. Their signal, that prevented our annihilation. And now their hatred, which had given us an opportunity.
An opportunity to finally excise the rot, the
weakness, that festered in the heart of humanity. A chanced for renewed purpose, unity, and above all,
strength. And there would be no sacrifice too great.
“Meier, whatever happens in the coming weeks and months, we need to remember one thing.”
He didn’t say anything. He already knew the answer. But it was an answer worth repeating.
As the city blazed brightly around us, I felt I stood taller than even the highest skyscrapers. It was a feeling of renewed purpose, a drive that was now more alive than ever before.
“No matter what, always put humanity first.”

2023.12.06 17:57 Carolina0x 100% Recovered; POTS/HI
100% recovered; POTS/HI
Hey guys so I left this sub a while back but just came back to post I am 100% recovered from long COVID. I work full time and I am in school full time, I live my life normally and nothing hinders me. I eat what I want when I want. I am going to post just to give back to the community and then leaving as Reddit gave me so much information but it is not a good place when healing as reading negative posts just adds to fear. I am going to post what i tried that did not help and then what did help. Pre-covid conditions: hsv1 (oral herpes/cold sores) and PCOS, high cholesterol, average weight. 31 F at time of infection I am a nurse and actually worked as a covid nurse in the hospital and never got sick. My husband gave me covid when we were going to a concert. I got covid august 27th 2022 (no reinfection). Since then I got a bad cold with no worsening symptoms. Immediately after getting covid I realized my heart rate was very high and I got dizzy after standing. As a nurse I am educated and probably know too much. I immediately checked my pulse and noticed I had low bp and high heart rate when changing positions. I also noticed that I would get high hr after eating certain foods like avocado or high carb. My HR would go to 150 the first weeks after infection. I was checked by a pulmonologist and cardiologist. I had an echo which was normal, poor man’s pots test which was positive, ct scan normal, pft showed very mild asthma ( I had as a kid and returned but now back to normal and I have no sob), nerve test on legs normal, I wore a holter monitor no abnormalities found. I had a sleep apnea test which was negative.
SYMPTOMS POTS HISTAMINE INTOLERANCE WORSENING HISTAMINE INTOLERANCE AFTER RETURNING TO HIGH STRESS POPPING, CRACKING JOINTS AFTER WORSENING HISTAMINE INTOLERANCE (I have a theory this is caused my mast cell release from the high histamine which can cause muscles to tighten which allows more air bubbles to go into joint spaces but I never had pain with this. I still have this but don’t care anymore since it doesn’t cause pain FIBROMYALGIA (started after worsening histamine intolerance)
Things I did that did not work: -Supplements ( I tried them all, b1 high dose, b complex, mag, lcarnitine, gaba, copper, probiotics, I bought over 500 dollars worth of supplements so many I can’t count) -Gradual exercise never helped. I never experienced pem so that’s probably why -Diet: if I avoided high histamine foods it would help but that doesn’t cure anything and i stopped eating things I enjoyed which was no fun -Metoprolol beta blocker (brought down hr but made me weak I quit after a week)
WHAT ACTUALLY HELPED I know a lot of people don’t like to read this and put it off as wacko but it is the truth and it is what helped me. My body was stuck in fight or flight before I got sick. I was in a masters program and I had two jobs I worked nonstop and always thought about what to do next. I had no self love and only thought about money. I would relax here and there but I was always grinding. I am typical type A personality. When I got sick I started investigating and talked to a fellow redditor Rob that actually has YouTube videos on this for those interested. I found out about the poly vagal theory. It took me a long time to heal. I bought the DNRS program which helped me but I got lazy after a month and quit and thought I was healed. I went back to my old ways of overworking and my symptoms came back way worse. I then started to really buckle down on healing and found Nicole Sachs. I listened to her podcast on Spotify and everything just made sense. We are all stuck on fear. Continuously being in these forums do not help our cause as our brain is now rewired to get hits on never healing. We need to break this loop and rewire our brain. It is actually very simple but it takes a lot to actually believe it trust me it took me almost a year after having all the information. Listening to Nicole every day for a month is when I finally said enough is enough. I started to do her recommended journaling and also started EFT tapping. I got impressive results on two weeks of daily journaling. I won’t go all into this as you can find this info for free on YouTube and Spotify but basically unresolved emotions and fear drive our nervous system. Don’t believe me if you want but this is the truth and I am sharing to hopefully help even one person.
WHAT HELPED -4-7-8 breathing -EFT tapping (Brad Yates on yt) -Nicole Sach’s journal speak -Poly vagal theory -Inner child work -DNRS (positive visualization of past and future you don’t have to buy the program to do this) -Positive thinking -Stop negative thinking, ruminating, overthinking -Believing you will get better -And the most important: indifference to symptoms. Stop caring about your symptoms and when you feel bad just say whatever and move on with your day. This will rewire your brain to now believe you don’t care and stop giving you symptoms. Look into Dan Buglio on YouTube. Watching recovery stories on Raelan Aegle’s YouTube and other places.
I did do a gut test and had 0 bifo and lacto bacteria and started a specific probiotic for it. Never noticed a change until I started doing the above steps fyi.
This isn’t overnight you have to do this daily. It’s hard at first and resistance is great because the brain doesn’t like change but you will notice that as the days pass your symptoms get better and then one day you’ll notice you don’t have it anymore. We are still human and are prone to feel things. If you ever get a small return of a symptoms treat it with indifference and it will go away. Please look into retraining your brain it is the way out unless you have a structural problem but even if you have a structural problem, brain retraining will help you because having a dysregulated nervous system will always cause symptoms. Good luck to you all.

2023.11.07 04:51 Weird_North_3378 Anyone else have high heart rate after pituitary surgery?
I’m 3 months post op, still on 30 mg HC a day, super tired everyday and have a really high resting heart rate. I was referred to a cardiologist who pretty much said I was ok and that I t was most likely the meds and then ordered the echocardiogram. After the echo he told me I have a heart murmur and 2 leaky valves but apparently it’s “nothing to worry about”….then I read my after visit summary and they wrote I was well nourished, cleared for activities, discussed a low/no carb diet and recommended losing 20 pounds. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? They obviously do not understand what Cushing’s is and how it affects your body but they should probly read up on diseases their clients have before recommending anything. They also didn’t mention any diets or losing any weight to me in person, just wrote on paper that they told me in person and I agreed. So annoying. Will I ever get better?!!

2023.10.10 15:35 kingsraddad New carb, lines, and plugs and still won't start
I bought an Echo HC-150 hedge trimmer at a yard sake for $5. I installed a new carb, fuel lines, and spark plug and it still won't start. When I pull the cord, the compression sounds good. I used 91 octane mixed 50:1 with 2 stroke oil.
I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, any help is much appreciated.

2023.10.05 05:15 Front-Satisfaction74 Points from Live Stream
I watched the stream and read the patch notes but it seemed that some specific details in the stream were not mentioned in the notes, or were just confusing. I might have missed out certain things or got certain things wrong but overall, I felt these were very good changes:
S2 Specifics - Blood harvest events, similar to helltide but always present events at different parts of sanctuary.
- Collect blood harvest materials that stay with you even after the event
- Hunter's Acclaim system to get rewards like certain vampiric powers and gear
- Endgame bosses: 1-70, pretty much the same as before. 70-100 new bosses: Echos of Vershan, The Beast in the Ice, Grigoire, Duriel, Lord Zir. Each boss has its own unique loot list specific to them. Cosmetic rewards as well. Seasonal cosmetic mounts persist beyond the season.
- Access to each boss needs to be unlocked. i.e. Need to complete whispers to access Echoes of Vershan. Chance to find malignant creatures while completing whispers to get malignant body parts. Cache at the end has a chance to drop one of the parts you need to summon Vershan. Lair of Vershan is in a malignant beneath the Tree of Whispers. Throw the materials in the brazier to summon Vershan.
- Lightning themed boss, The Galvanic Saint. Can engage as you complete Helltide. Earn infernal steel as you open certain caches. Used to summon him and used against his lightning attacks. (Elemental resistances will be discussed next week). Each boss is elementally based, so you can target certain elemental resistances for each boss.
- World Tier 4: Vershan is available in Tier 3 but Tier 4 Vershan drops improved ancestral versions of the same uniques compared to tier 3. Killing The Galvanic Saint and Vershan in Tier 4 drops certain components that you need to summon Duriel. Duriel is a new level 100 boss added in S2. Duriel drops unique items and also a low chance to drop uber uniques. Paraphrased quote: You will see and know of people with uber uniques, it will not as as low as it was in the past. You have a way to target farm uber uniques.
- Beast in Ice: New boss you can summon after you start completing NMDs higher than Tier 30. Level 85ish mobs. Chance for component drops after end of NMD to make a special key to access the Beast’s lair. Specific loot table as usual.
- Lord Zir: Storied version of Lord Zir in world tier 1 & 2. Much more difficult version in Tier 4. Accessible as you complete world bosses and legion events.
- Not exactly clear but seems to be suggested that components are easier to get when farming with friends. Components to summon each boss is tradable. “A lot” of new uniques added in season 2, possibly to be revealed next week. Uniques can be target farmed as each boss has a unique loot table for a certain unique.
- This current loot frame work of farming uniques and uber uniques will also be available in eternal realm and every season moving forward.
- Class balance and unique item changes will be discussed on Oct 10 stream. “Nearly every unique item is getting some sort of update”. Resistances and damage bucket changes (crit, vul and overpower) also discussed on 10th Oct.
Gameplay updates - Scrolls of Escape are consumed automatically if a HC player disconnects while in combat and teleports them to a safe location. Disconnecting on purposes also causes it to be consumed automatically.
- Incense that grants bonus experience persist after death.
- Experience bonuses are now multiplicative with the world tier bonus. i.e. bonuses from seasonal blessings and incense are added into a bucket and multiplied by the world tier bonus. Seems to suggest that other exp bonuses will be added into this same bucket if present at the same time. “Time to get to level 100 will be 40% faster” as compared to S1. This is to allow players to engage in the end game content faster.
- Ten unlocked waypoints added to Skip Campaign, 2 in each zone. Key strategic waypoints that you will want to go to.
- Renown rewards (potions, obols, skill points and paragon points) now persists between seasons and new characters. You can still do renown and side quests if you like to do it (I don’t). Don’t have to login to a previous character like before to load the rewards. If you unlocked all renown in preseason, eternal or in S1, it will be unlocked in S2. Confirmed in blog post that the experience and gold rewards are not unlocked and need to be earned on each character if you wish to earn the experience and gold.
- Overworld monsters in tier 3 and 4 no longer trail the player’s level after levels 55 and 75 respectively. Formerly, monsters trailed your level. This will be changed and coupled with other changes. Adam seems to suggest that its scaled similarly to D2R.
- Two additional character slots
- Occultist in Tree of Whispers, stashes added to towns with waypoints, additional stashes added within capital cities and near important vendors, Curiosity vendors are now closer to waypoints in Kyovashad, Zabinzet, Ked Bardu and Gea-Kul.
Mounts - Mount movement is going to be improved, making you less likely to get stuck or slowed down unexpectedly. Improved mounts automatically jumping over traversals. “A lot less dismounting”. Base speed is increased by 15% as per blog post, but top speed is not affected. Achieving full speed using MnK is improved. Previously, you needed the cursor to be at the edge of screen to achieve full speed. It will not be binary i.e. full speed or not, but the mount system will be “a lot more generous” in allowing you to achieve full speed with the cursor location.
- Speed boost duration increased by 50%. Rate that you acquire spur remains the same. Spur breaks through barricades.
- Dismount skills have their cooldowns reduced: Manual Dismount from 10 to 5s, Forced Dismount from damage CD from 30 to 15s (blog posts says 10 to 4s though), delay between a dismount combat skill i.e. Barb’s Bounding Slam from 10 to 3s. Previously you had to wait 10s after mounting to use a dismount combat skill, this is reduced to 3s.
Nightmare Dungeons - You can now teleport directly into the nightmare dungeon. Previously, it only teleported you outside.
- Monster density for dungeon events are increased. NPCs no longer get one-shot in higher world tiers. Should be more fun and rewarding to engage in dungeon events.
- Dungeon traps i.e. falling debris etc will have better readability and the CC has been greatly reduced overall. This is not just for traps but CC across the board is greatly reduced. This implies things like chilling wind or the stun from vampire knights are also greatly reduced.
- Paragon glyph experience increased. The degree of increase is not specified.
NMD Afflictions - Backstabbers: Close monster attacks now make you vulnerable and vulnerable damage taken is increased by x%. This percentage is scaled higher based on dungeon tier. Previously, monsters who attacked you from behind did a set increase damage, resulting in one-shots quite frequently. It is suggested that this new change gives you more time to react and counter-play.
- Monster Critical Resist: Monster attacks reduce your crit damage for 3s by x%, up to y%. This is scaled by dungeon tier. Duration should be same for every dungeon tier, just the percentages scale.
- Death Pulse: Death pulses are prevented on monsters that already have on-death explosions i.e. lunatics. Death pulses will no longer spawn on each other.
- Lighting Storm (The snowflake): Being shocked in the bubble will grant a 35% movement speed bonus for 5s. Lightning storm only starts when you are in combat. Lightning storm will also not trigger when in traversals i.e. climbing up and down ladders will not trigger lightning storm. Also implied that it will make dungeons with this affliction faster as you will get the speed boost.
- Drifting Shade (The piece of shit that targets a certain area and implodes, making you silenced if you stand in it): Persistent duration from 5 to 3s. Respawn time increased by 2s, making it slightly less frequent.
NMD Misc - Objectives have been completely removed from a handful of dungeons (it is not specified which dungeons), just killing the boss completes the dungeon. For dungeons with objectives, they will be in the critical path of the dungeon, reducing backtracking and making them easier to complete.
- Many dungeon layouts have been redesigned. Changes to limit backtracking. Example shown on stream shows a less likelihood to take a wrong turn for the objectives.
Legion Events & World Events Skipping this one because its pretty self-explanatory in the blog post.
Endgame Activities - Nightmare sigil rewards from Whisper caches: Nightmare sigils from Whisper caches will always be within 5 levels of the highest level NMD you have completed. Previously, you always pretty much got the lower or lowest level tier sigil from the Whisper. Now it make it more relevant to your progression where you will always get a sigil that is near tiers that you will be running. It was also mentioned that you can get summoning materials for Vershan from the Whispers, making it more relevant in the end game to do Whispers.
- Gold reward from Whisper caches is GREATLY increased. They emphasised greatly, indicating that it is going to be a very significant increase. It was mentioned that this would be a way to farm gold for respecs and enchants and a good source of gold for endgame.
- Experience from Whispers and Helltides will also be substantially increased. Will be increased to the point of being competitive with NMDs. As mentioned before, Whispers and Helltides will also need to be done to obtain summoning materials for Vershan and The Galvanic Saint respectively. This helps your reach to level 100.
- Whisper Caches will adhere to the item slot specified. Previously if you opened a boots cache for example, you would get items for other slots. In S2, you will always get boots.
- Helltide chests will now have specific icons on the map to indicate their type i.e. ring, chest etc. Previously, they all looked the same on the map but now you will be able to identify which chest is which on the map. Wasn’t mentioned but seems to suggest that the Mysteries chest location mechanic is still the same, so Helltides.com will still be relevant.
UI Changes Most of these are quite self-explanatory in the notes but some important stuff they mentioned on stream but weren’t in the notes, or were just confusing in the notes.
- You can now mark an item as “Favourite” or “Junk”. There will be a “Sell all junk” function. Favourited items cannot be salvaged or sold.
- Normal affixes on items are now more consistent. i.e. The vertical positioning of strength will be more consistent on all items now, so you don’t have to run down the list of affixes to locate strength.
- Dungeons with active Whispers will now also display the Aspect and Description associated with it. Previously, dungeons with Whispers hid the associated aspect and description.
- Added search functionality in stash tabs. You can filter by item types, rarity and even Sacred and Ancestral. There is also a keyword search function that searches across your tabs and will display on the tab the number of items with that keyword in each tab.
- Minimap has been zoomed out. Game zoom remains the same however.
Items - Gems are now crafting materials. Previously they dropped as items, meaning you needed to click on them on the ground to pick them up and they took up a lot of space. They now drop as crafting materials, meaning they are automatically picked up and you can go to the Jeweller in town to craft them. They take up an item slot as per usual when crafted.
- Enchantment costs changed: The first enchantment cost is a little higher than before, but cost progression for each enchantment will be significantly lower.
- Item quality drops: When you get to Tier 3, you will no longer get normal, magic and rare item drops. They will instead be converted to crafting materials. Legendary items of normal quality will still appear to you even if you are in Tier 3, so you won’t miss out on the aspect if you are farming it. Same for uniques. Similarly in Tier 4, only ancestral items will drop but legendary and uniques will continue to appear.
- Item I-power drop scaling: (I might have gotten it wrong but this is what I understood from the stream) Starting at Scared (level 55), the i-power range is as per normal. When fighting a level 56 mob, the min and max i-power increases by 2. It is mentioned that at level 100, the i-power cap is at 920. I am unsure if this cap is only unlocked at level 100 or you can still get 920 below level 100, but for each level above 100, the minimum goes up by 1 for each level. At level 150 mobs, the item i-power range will be 920-920, guaranteeing i-power 920 drops for level 150 mobs. The range of affixes are not changed and will only scale with normal stats like weapon damage, resistances, armor etc.
- Normal and Legendary whisper caches give +10 and +20 item level respectively. The item i-power drops from caches is scaled with your level. However, the i-power will not go above the cap for sacred and ancestral respectively. Helltide chests give +20.
- Uber unique drops from Duriel will always be at i-power 920 with all affixes maxed. Also implies that uber uniques that don’t come from Duriel will not roll max affixes.
The rest were just battle pass changes and Q&A. Hope I got everything important.

2023.10.04 19:39 PNDMike I'll be live transcribing the developer stream here. [Oct 4 D4 stream]
Howdy folks! It seemed like a success last time I did this and the notes were useful for a lot of people, so I'll be transcribing the dev stream again here.
The livestream will go live in about
20 10 minutes from now and I will be typing up the notes live and updating this post. I'll be watching on Youtube,
here's the link if you're looking for it. I'll also post a link to the official Blizzard follow up post when it's live as well.
I'll be editing this constantly, so if you're following along here feel free to hit refresh to get an updated version. I'll also try and go over it again when it's over and clean up any typos or unclear phrasing.
It won't be a verbatim transcript, as the devs can talk fast and often at the same time so my fingers just simply can't keep up, but I'll provide a summary of what they say as per my understanding of it. I'll try and keep any editorial comments of mine in squiggly brackets like:
A silly and not true example:>Devs announced a new endgame dating sim mode where you can take demons out on dates {Looks neat}
Because they sometimes say information and then immediately walk it back, I will do my best to correct any information that is incorrectly interpreted. For example, when they said ALL renown carries over, and then it was immediately corrected to just map discovery and altar renown carrying over, I'll try and strikeout the incorrect information and add the correction beside it. For example:
A silly and not true example:>In the dating sim mode
you can date every demon Actually there are only specific named demons you can date, you can't just date a random fallen shaman. Because I'm typing, interpreting, and summarizing at the same time, I'm bound to get something slightly incorrect or maybe miss something, so if you catch anything I missed or got wrong please sound off in the comments and I'll add your post to the main post here with the correction. Please try and upvote accurate information/corrections so they rise to the top and I can see them easier, thanks!
Alrighty! Notes will go below once the stream goes live.
---
We're live, trailer playing.
Info from trailer
- Season 2 will be biggest season yet.
- Lord Zir is a vampire lord who are banished into the city of ancients which is now awakening
- Players will contract vampire curse but not be under Zir's control. Band of Vampire Hunting NPCS will be joining us, including Eris (sp?) who is played by Gemma Chan. Eris sees the PC as useful but disposal.
- Core seasonal mechanic is Vampire Powers, beat Zir minions to collect Potent Blood. Made a pact (3 types of pacts) to gain boons. Trying to provide powers to enhance every build, one in particular is dashing turns into a cloud of bats. Can steal enemy souls. Rising Moon: stack basic skills and go into a blood rage. Bat companion that stuns enemies.
- Blood harvest are large scale events where vampires overwhelm an area {Looks like vampire helltides}
- 5 new/returning endgame bosses. New way to farm unique, especially build defining ones. Most challenging boss is going to have a chance to drop uber uniques.
QOL
- Gems are materials.
- As long as you've finished prologue, you can skip campaign. Immediately unlock horse.
- New season journey, new battlepass. Town portal cosmetics.
- Updating uniques and aspects for balance.
- Season 2: Largest content update yet. New questlines, powers, and events, will improve on established systems.
PANEL IS LIVE NOW Adam Fletcher joined by Antonio Watson, Joe Shely, and Joseph Piepiora.
Going to do a season overview, then QOL segment, then news and announcments, then Q&A. Expect the stream to go for 2 hours.
Season Overview: - Lord Zir ancient vampire who has recently awaken and seeks to overtake sanctuary.
- Eris is a new companion who is not having great luck and needs help.
- Part of the story, you will contract vampirism but because of Lillith's blood will resist the effects
- New dungeons added for the season and you go into those as part of the questline. Crypts, really cool dungeon at the end when you go to confront Zir. Will also revisit old places/dungeons that are different now.
- Vampiric powers almost looks like Paragon board and glyphs, you can acquire up to 22 powers and these are designed to be less class specific, tried to make sure they are class agnostic in nature.
- Powers have pact costs that you need to balance to equip them.- Can turn into a cloud of bats and become unstoppable
- New effect; Vampiric curse. If you kill cursed enemies, you steal their soul. Then if you choose to use a defensive ability, you expend your stolen souls.
- Bats companions will come down and attack enemies- Channeling skill boost, drop a pool of blood that buffs defenses and damage
- Vampiric powers are often based around the Curse mechanic, and can trigger it in different ways.
- Fuel your vampiric powers by pacts - your items will have different pact powers (3 different symbols) to fuel the different powers. {Looks like a version of the old ancient, demon, angelic itemization model from prerelease days}
- Can remove pacts from items and inject them onto other items {kind of like aspect extracting and imprinting it seems}
- New enemies being added, Lord Zir was a ton of different minons.
- New shadow vampires {look a bit like ghouls and revenants and axe skeletons}
- New enemies come with new attacks and techniqiues, more "area of denial" moves
- Vampires will drop "lumps" on the ground and trigger shields and change your target priority.
- Lord Zir has lieutenants, Bloodseekers. As the player is sort of protected by Lillith's blood, these are other heroes who are not protected and fallen victim. {Looks like evil versions of PCS, Rogues, Sorcs, Druids, Necros, Barbs}
- Bloodseekers drop potent blood that level up your Vampiric Powers. Bloodseekers can attack at any time, mid dungeon, etc.
Blood Harvests:
- Starting right at level 1 you can encounter them, filled with vampire minions trying to drain the blood.
- What's the difference vs helltides? Available level 1 and always a blood harvest active, never downtime. Earn new materials that you don't get elsewhere, Blood Lures to bait bloodseekers, Vampiric Keys that can open Vampiric Caches. These currencies don't disappear at the end of Blood Harvest, they stay with you.
- New feature: Hunter's acclaim. As you complete objectives and whispers in Blood Harvest areas, you can earn rewards like potent blood and gear.
New Bosses:
- Being added to seasonal and eternal realm
- Showcasing a chart about content progression {won't be able to trascribe this}
- Chart showcases 1-50 progression, 50-70, and 71-100. {71 to 100 looking very sparse, mostly just Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons.}
- Have just added Echo of Vershan from S1, The Beast in the Ice, Duriel, Grigoire the Galvanic Saint, and Lord Zir
- Complete Whispers to collect body parts to reconstitute Varshan, unlock a dungeon under the Tree of Whispers
- Several of these new bosses are highly elemental themed (Grigoire Lightning, Cold Resist for Beast of Ice) so you'll want to stack resists. (More resist updates coming next week)
- Duriel, King of Maggots, is spawned by collecting parts from killing the other bosses. Duriel is lvl 100 and drops Uber Uniques. Doesn't guarantee drop them, but it's a way to hunt for them. "You will know someone with Uber Uniques"
- Beast in Ice is a new boss that you go and summon by completing NMDs higher than tier 30, drops components that can be used to make a special NMD key that brings you to the Beasts lair. Special loot, potent items.
- Lord Zir has a story version, as well as a challenging WT4 version that you can encounter. Gather parts by completing Legion events and World Bosses.
- Showcasing Grigoire, Beast of Ice, and Duriel. {Grigoire made a checkerboard lightning pattern, looks like we will need to hopscotch around, looks neat}
- Can trade/sell excess boss items.
- Bosses all have unique drop tables. Looks like special horses too and cosmetics too. UPDATE: Showcased them again, lots more unlockable cosmetics coming.
- Reiterating that this content is Eternal Realm too, and will be expanded on in the future.
Next Stream Info:
- Nearly every unique item is getting updated, more on Oct 10th stream.
- Resistances, damage bucket changes, overpower damage adjustments all coming in the next stream.
- Adam Jackson will be back "He has been summoned"
Gameplay Updates and Changes:
- Devs are warning us that this is going to be a big list.
- Scrolls of escalpe are now consumed if a HC player disconnects while in combat and teleports them to safety.
- Incenses now grant bonus exp and persist after death
- Experience bonuses are now multiplicative with World Tier bonuses. {I was editing, but I think they said that levelling will be about 40% faster? Might have misheard that stat} Don't want players to get frustrated at 75 and stop, want 100 to feel achievable.
- More waypoints are going to start unlocked when you skip campaign. Not every single waypoint, but key strategic ones unlocked to help you get around.
- Renown rewards now persists between seasons and new characters, obols, skills points, potion upgrades, etc.
- These changes are the result of player feedback and from devs playing the game
- Overworld Monsters in WT3 and WT4 will match the palyer level after level 55 and 75 respectively. Monsters will be on par with your level, but coupled with other changes that make sure character growth feels meaningful. "We'll talk about that more later on"
- End of Season 1, character will migrate over. 2 more character slots coming. More infromation about migration will be posted after the stream.
- Town efficiency changes incoming. Occultist at Tree of Whispers, Stashes added to all small towns with waypoints. Additional stashes in capital cities near important vendors. Purveyors of Curiosities have set up shop closer to the waypoints. "Purveyer has become more social"
Horse changes
- Horses are less likely to get stuck unexpectedly. Mounts automatically jump over jump traversals.
- Base speed increased by 14%, speed boost from Spur duration increased, Spur breaks barricades, mouse and keyboard controls improved. Rate that you acquire spur is the same, so with the duration increases, close to 100% spur uptime.
- Cooldown changes. Manual dismount 10 sec to 5 sec, Forced dismount 30 sec to 15, Dismount combat skill 10 sec to 3 sec.
Changes to NMDS
- Teleporting to NMDs now takes you INSIDE the dungeon instead of entrance
- Dungeon event monster density increased
- Event NPCS no longer get one shot in later world tiers {Thank Inarius for this change, OMG}
- Traps have increased "readability" and CC reduced. CC across the board decreased, not just from traps. Extensive amount of CC changes incoming.
- Paragon Glyph experience increased. Paragon glyphs level faster and paragon scales so you can feel more powerful faster.
NMD affliction changes:
- Backstabbers: Close monster attacks from behind cause you to become Vulnerable, Vuln damage taken increased by X%. More opportunity for counterplay, can react to it.
- Monster Crit Resist: Monster attacks reduce the damge of your Crit Strikes by 3 seconds by X%, up to Y%. Players were avoiding this one, want to avoid instant salvage sigils.
- Death Pulse. Prevent death pulses on monsters that have on death explosions and prevent them from spawning on top of each other or chaining.
- Lightning Storm: being shocked while in the bubble grants 35% bonuis movespeed for 5 sec. Lightning storm will only start when in combat, and only start when player has a direct path to bubble. Trying to avoid it slowing down NMD experience.
- Drifting Shade: duration dcreased from 5 seconds to 3 seconds and respawn time increased by 2 seconds. Don't want players spending more time running in circles than completing the dungeon itself.
NMD Objectives and layouts:
- Completely removed objectives from a handful of dungeons, just find the boss. Placed objectives on the critical path through the dungeon.
- Redesigned many layouts, additional changes made to limit backtracking while preventing the dungeon from feeling too linear.
- Showcasing two different maps, wings and corridors reduced.
World events and Legion events
- Legions: Time between events reduced from 30 min to 25 min. Warning timer increased from 5 to 10 min. Fixed event where the pin would not appear when whispers were active.
- World bosses: Spawns have been changed from 6 hours to 3.5 hours. Warning timer increased from 30 min to 60 min. Fixed issue where pin would not appear, and message all players when they are 15 min away from spawning.
Endgame Activities
- Whisper caches will now aware NMD Sigils within 5 levels of the highest level NMD the player has completed.
- Gold rewards from Whisper caches greatly increased. Highly emphasizing the word greatly here.
- Experience from whispers and helltides increased substantially. They are OK with NMDs being a great source of exp, but want whispers and helltides to be competitive.
- Whisper caches adhere to the item slot of the cache. (No helms in boots caches, for instance). Same with helltide caches.
- Helltide chests now have specific icons to indicate their type
UI/UX changes
- Items can now be marked as Favorite or Junk in your stash or inventory. Favorited items cannot be sold or salvaged.
- Extracted aspects with the same legendary power will now be sorted together when sorting.
- Sorting of normal affixes on items improved to be more consistent
- Dungeon map tooltips that have active whispers associated with them will now display the aspect name and description earned, no longer hidden by whisper being active.
- Stash can be searched and filtered. Item type, rarity, sacred/ancestral, text box for keywords.
- Streamer mode has been implemented, can hide identifying info like battletags.
- Combat text has added options for hiding text like vulnerable, dodge, fortified, etc.
- Auto run feature. When pressing a bound key or button the player character will continuously move in the direction that they are facing or where the mouse cursor is located.
- Minimap zoomed out to capture a wider area
Updates regarding items
- Gems no longer drop as rewards, earn gem shard materials they can use at the jeweler to craft gems. Can salvage gems you create to make better gems.
- Enchantment costs have been updated. Overall costs reduced. Costs won't spike as quickly. This combined with whisper cache gold helps defer a lot of these enchantment costs.
- Crafting mats will drop in place of lower item power normal, magic, and rare equipment in WT3 and Wt4. When you go into Wt3 and start getting sacreds, normal items will stop dropping, you'll only see sacreds, normal items will become mats instead. Will still see legendaries.
- Higher level monsters in Wt3 and WT4, items dropped will be more powerful based on monster level you're fighting. More powerful monsters = higher item power potential. Want to decrease the feeling of having all your endgame gear by 65 and not finding meaningful upgrades. Higher monsters influence both max and min item power dropped. At level 100 dealing with items of max ipower of 920. Level 150 monsters ipower range is like on 920 to 920, so you shink down the minimum floor. Didn't change the ranges on affixes, just the base damage, resists, etc.
- Whisper rewards are now +10 item power. Upgraded caches now provide +20 item power compared to your current level. Will make the rewards more enticing.
- Helltides caches also provide +20 ipower.
- Trying to respond to their experiences playing and player feedback.
Talking about Uber Duriel again
- With all these new bosses and their loot tables, at least with Duriel because being a level 100 boss, will drop ipower 920 stuff. Unique items that ONLY Duriel drops that are really powerful, and Uber Uniques as well. Unique items there is a tighter range relative to other bosses and ipower will be "tighter" when fighting Duriel. Uber Uniques always rolled at ipower cap, so max ipower when they drop.
Blizzcon
- They will be streaming
- Blizzcon collection items will be showcased soon
- Can bug Adam in person at Blizzcon

- If you miss one, don't have to scroll back through the pass to find it.

- New town portal skins in the battlepass. Can change from blue portal to white portal (others available as well)
D4 launching on Steam in time for Season 2
- Cross play and cross progression available immediately on day 1
- Wishlists available after this stream.
- Nice for steamdeck users. "Sanctuary on the go"
Q&A
- What plans do you have for itemization? A lot of ideas of things they want to add. Sorts of things they are talking in the items section are small steps towards their end vision. Will be bringing these things over time. Big plans. Their big themes are more endgame content and itemization improvements.
- What will you do to fix openworld balance, drops, and mounts? More plans for open world? {Paraphrased, really long question and even devs were unsure what was being asked} Want to have a mix of gameplay that occurs in dungeons and gameplay occurring in open world. Like S2 Blood Harvest, monsters being on level, changes with item power based on monster power. Want to make sure that various activities feel more rewarding to engage in, like summoning boss materials represent steps to make content feel more compelling. The first step towards the sorts of things they want to add and inject into the game.
- Any chance of level cap being removed off of paragon glyphs? How they look at power progression in D4 is design with the idea of capped power progression in mind. Want to find ways for players to grow their power past level 100 in ways that feel compelling and fun, but not in ways that feel like an extra step. Players feel like they've ran out of stuff to do, paragon glyph cap is one way to do that, in Season 2 they are focussed more on vampiric powers to achieve that.
- Could we have a Paragon board reset button or buy scrolls? Won't talk about anything today. They will look into it "wink"
- Is there a chance to improve Uber Unique stats? Will talk more about that next week, there are opportunities to make improvements.
- Can stash search be used for legendary powers or aspects? Yes.
- Are there any plans to give clans some love? Clan management is very limited. {Paraphrased, long question} want to add more social tools for clans. Will have more to share later.
- Will Battlepasses receive more coins than 666? Listening to feedback, that they can't actually buy anything with the platinum from the battlepass. Players will have more options.
- How many uniques will you add every season? Any news on set items? No news on set items. 12 uniques coming in Season 2, will continue to evaluate these numbers. Also want to add more aspects and ways to get these powers before WT3.
- How is Duriel going to compare to Lillith in difficulty? Lillith is the pinnacle challenge, have made some adjustments to make her easier to take down. Duriel is designed to be a little bit easier, because failing after using materials feelsbadman.
- Will 5 new bosses be a permanent addition? Yes. Joining eternal realm right away.
- Will they add more eternal realm content beyond these bosses? Yes.
- Have you given though to crafting specific dungeon keys rather than random keys? Yes they have though about it. In constant conservations about it, looking at gameplay, analytics, and palyer feedback.
- Any improvement to readability of endgame boss attacks? Yes, there has been.
- Are you going to be able to save builds to a warddrobe like D3? Something that they want to add in the future.
- Any plans for adding a trade interface where players aren't going to have to use other third party tools like discord? Some light functionality baked into trade chat right now, with added traded in Season 2 of boss keys they devs are looking at it as a stress test to see what needs to be improved.
- Permanently upgrading codex of power was discussed, are you still looking into it? Want to make Codex of power better in ways like that and will have more info to share on that in the future.
- Leaderboards? Season 3 feature.
- Do you need to buy the game again on Steam? You do need to buy the game on Steam if you want to play on Steam.
- Any changes planned for glyph experience cap? Gives more reason to run NMDs. Looking for ways to make players feel like they have good progression mechanics at level 100. Not ready to talk about it today, but they are working on it.
- Can Duriel drop 920 ipower rares or only uniques? Unique items will have a tighter range, rare items will have a larger ipower range.
- Loot filters? Acknoweldge that filtering loot is part of the ARPG that many players enjoy and they have heard that feedback and is something they are exploring.
- Will NM sigils rotate within a season, or same sigils all season? Same sigils all season. Rotating would invalidate previously acquired keys.
- Stash tabs? No announcements but what they can say is that there continues to be a need for more improvements to being able to store items. It's an ARPG, players want to store items. They are making improvements and will continue to make improvements.
Patchnotes coming on the 10th, currently 41 pages of patch notes. Season 2 is October 17th, Season 1 ends on the 17th as well. Lots more to talk about on the 10th.
---
Alright! That's all. Going to take a break and then will gradually go through the above and clean it up later.

2023.08.27 16:33 DerpySushi Still retaining water after a year on TRT
37M, starting total was 380 and free was 90. Feeling like my old self after starting TRT. Currently injecting IM every 3 days 50mg for a total of 100 a week. I talked to my doctor about my ankles swelling due to water retention and she seemed to just blow it off like it wasn't the TRT. Humid days are a lot worse of course when I am outside. I did go to my cardiologist and had a full work up (echo, stress and Calcium CT) all was fine. My cardiologist told me to look at stopping the TRT. The water retention is super uncomfortable.
1900 cals per day, 100-150 grams of carbs, mainly from fruit.
Lifting in the morning 6 days a week and light bike cardio 3 days per week working on V02 max
My numbers are below, I feel maybe my body might be super sensitive to the estradiol being at max recommended? Would cutting to 40mg every 3 days help enough to make a difference? I'd like a second opinion from another doctor but you need to sign up for their monthly sub for them to suggest any sort of protocol. My current doctor just requires blood work and a visit every 3 months.
