Is this build I made good for the goal I have?

2024.05.15 06:06 maxrexpower1 Is this build I made good for the goal I have?

Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)
Yes.
What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.
My goal with the build for my new PC is to play the games I have on steam without hearing a very loud noise that the fan makes, on these recent times the sound started to annoy me when playing on my laptop. I want to be able to play games like Skyrim with mods (no graphic ones), DBXV2, .Hack//G.U. Last Recode, Digimon Masters Online, Mad Max, the metro games, Naruto games, Sunset Overdrive, and if possible The Witcher 3 and in the future Digimon World Next Order, Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal. I want to be able to play these and other games without hearing a turbine-like noise that the fan makes, I want one more quitter, and without feeling the heat that comes from the computer (laptop in my case right now).
If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for?
Stable 30fps on the games I play; Low or medium settings, maybe higher if some requirements are met; I don’t care about RTX.
What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?
Around $180 per month.
In what country are you purchasing your parts?
México.
Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Sorry for bad English and redaction in advance.
With this build I can manage to fulfil or almost do the goal I want of the fan not making too much noise?
The RAM and case on the list I put links for them from Amazon México because I could not find them on pcpartpicker, also the case I put on the list is just a filler for the format, I don’t want the RBG/lights on the case, I would prefer to use no case or get a simplecheaper one, I hope someone could recommend one like that. The RAM I have from amazon is only one module of 16gb just in case.
Most of the pieces are on little discounts right now on Amazon México, but starting tomorrow there is a week of sales so maybe the prices that I listed (that I converted from pesos to dollars) may be cheaper, but I could only buy few pieces per month because I have to use part of the money I get for different things.
The monitor I plan to get is a cheap one with HDMI, 30ghz/60ghz and the same size as the one my laptop has, but for a time I would just use the tv as a monitor while I save some money to buy it.
If possible, I would like to know if the MB has Bluetooth, because some of the things I use needs it, so I want to know this detail.
My plan is to keep the build for many years, because I don’t think I could afford something much more expensive.
I would love, if possible, to receive advice on which piece to buy first to start making this build. Also would like to know if I could somehow save some money on any of the pieces.
Thanks in advance for your opinions and have a good night.
EDIT: Fix.

2024.02.06 22:33 batseverywherebats Conflicting Etrecheck Reports on Failing Hard Drive

I have a iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019) running Monterey 12.7.2. 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 and Memory was upgraded to 64GB a couple years ago.
About every other day I experience beachballing for 10-20 seconds at a time. Sometimes every few minutes. Sometimes I notice that only Chrome seems to be affected, but not always.
Out of curiosity I ran my first Etrecheck and the report flagged "This computer has a hard drive that appears to be failing." I quickly researched how to use an external SSD as a startup disk and ordered one off Amazon.
The next day the drive showed up in the mail but the computer was running fine. No beachballing. I decided to run another Etrecheck and this time the report said "EtreCheck found no major problems with your computer."
I've repeated this a few times since. If the computer is beachballing, Etrecheck says the hard drive appears to be failing. If it's running smoothly, Etrecheck says there are no major problems.
If the hard drive were truly failing, should Etrecheck be flagging it on every report?
Here is the "APPEARS TO BE FAILING" report followed by the "NO MAJOR PROBLEMS" report:

2024.02.04 17:49 nathanarticulated WAB

BC Canada WEEKLY ALTERNATIVE BUZZER ( Vol. 4, Number 5) Feb. 4, 2024 Public Transit: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Today is Transit Equity Day ( see 6. below ) Until further notice the WAB will be published every Sunday instead of Friday For more information check Facebook page " we ride public transit Vancouver " on X (Twitter) see NathanDavidowi1 , email to [nathandavidowicz2@gmail.com](mailto:nathandavidowicz2@gmail.com) Read Reddit transit for a complete Weekly Alternative Buzzer ( WAB ) Read condensed WAB on Linkedin under Nathan Davidowicz Please continue to send your stories and I will publish them. 1. Transit Strikes in BC Are OVER: Both on Vancouver Island and in Metro Vancouver: https://www.bctransit.com/media/releases-and-advisories?nid=1529725525815 https://globalnews.ca/newslette10267201/ However two transit contracts are expiring in 2024 , WV ATU 134 and Canada Line BCGEU; Common sense would have the same expiry date for all transit contracts, either Calendar year or fiscal year. No other big transit system in Canada has 11 different Unions. We will have to wait to find out if and when the BC Govt takes the right path and propose changes to both TransLink and BC Transit. The BC Legislature starts their spring session on February 20, 2024. BC 2024/25 Budget is on Feb 22, 2024 Per Capita BC spends less money on Transit and Active Transportation, compared to Alberta, Ontario, Quebec. Over 90% of the Transportation Budget is spent on Highways & Roads. Furthermore, the money that BC spends is not spent wisely. Many vanity transit projects and lots of waste in operations. In the meantime we have a NEW Change.org petition that request that Transit be declared Essential Service https://www.change.org/p/declare-public-buses-as-an-essential-service-in-surrey-bc-and-all-of-metro-vancouver ( 4600 signatures as of today ) 2. 6. Transit Equity Day is February 4th
No progress on SOCIAL EQUITY we need FREE or very LOW fares,
for Students ( 13-19 ) Seniors, Low Income ( 19-64 );
Our fare structure that has not changed since 1984 in Metro Vancouver is UNFAIR.
Vancouver School Board ( No.39 ) has approved Trustee Suzie Mah motions to ask for FREE Transit for teens 13 to 18 yrs old. 2024.01.29 00:21 Detached09 Are there any tips for optimization on this to get the price sub-$2000?

Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)
Yes
What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.
Gaming. Flight Sim 2020/2024, Assassin's Creed, etc. with second monitor running Youtube/Netflix/etc during gaming.
If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)
4k with the best FPS possible at the price point
What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?
Current build is ~$2200, would like to get it closer to $1500 if possible
In what country are you purchasing your parts?
USA. Microcenter is an option, but it's a whole day event due to distance so savings would have to be significant to make it worthwhile.
Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Provide any additional details you wish below.
4TB M.2 is necessary. I don't absolutely need the 4x M.2 slots so willing to downgrade to a different board if that would help the price. I'd like to have at least one more M.2 slot for future expansion, but again not required as I have platter drives for storage. Open to other case options but at minimum I need 1x 5.25" bay for a USB hub and a 240mm fan slot for the H100i cooler. I don't need or care about fancy RGB shit, so if there's a cheaper but still quality liquid cooler that doesn't have RGB I'll take that. 64GB of ram is currently overkill and I can go with 2x16GB to start and upgrade ram later but my current system with 32GB is running out of space frequently so being able to get 64GB up front would be preferred.
If there are other questions I'm happy to add more details.
*Edited to change memory
NOTE: You do not have to follow this format, but please be sure to answer these questions. Please do not ask to simply be given a build. You are welcome to delete this section.

Is there a logical reason the Geekworm X1003 would not work on the Ubuntu image that the Raspberry Pi Imager can create? I have a whole server set up and running perfectly on a Raspberry Pi 5B 8GB with Nextcloud, PlexMediaServer, Airsonic, samba, webmin, etc. All works great -- even mdadm. But even after following ALL directions in Geekworm's wiki first, updating eeprom, updating /boot/firmware/config.txt, etc,. sudo lsblck, and sudo dmesg don't seem to see this device or the attached "KingSpec 512GB 2230 SSD NVMe Gen3x4, M.2 PCIe 3.0 SSD with 3D NAND Flash".
I can't see any lights on the geekworm X1003, nor on the M.2.
Is there anything that would be missing in the Ubuntu image that would prevent this from working?

Download Large Files in a Flash: IDM's Dynamic Segmentation Technology

Introduction to Internet Download Manager

Internet Download Manager (IDM) is a popular download accelerator application that has been helping users optimize downloads for over 20 years. As one of the longest running and most trusted download managers available, IDM has developed and refined numerous breakthrough technologies to maximize download speeds. One of its most powerful capabilities is dynamic segmentation - a revolutionary approach to file segmentation that dynamically divides files during the download process for unprecedented acceleration performance.
This article will provide an in-depth look at IDM's dynamic segmentation technology, exploring how it works, the advantages it provides over traditional segmentation methods, and real-world examples of the dramatic speed increases it enables. We'll also examine IDM's other core features, integration options, supported platforms and overall value proposition. By understanding dynamic segmentation's inner workings, readers will gain insight into why IDM continues delivering the fastest possible downloads for any task after over two decades of refinement.

How IDM Segmentation Works

To appreciate dynamic segmentation, it helps to understand traditional file segmentation used by other download managers. Typically, these solutions pre-allocate files into fixed segments before downloading even begins. For example, a 1GB file may be divided into 1MB segments regardless of available connections.
The downside is this static approach can't adapt to fluctuating network conditions. If more bandwidth opens up halfway through, unused connections go idle as they wait for their preassigned segment. Likewise, segments may be too small if connections later drop, prolonging transfers unnecessarily.
In contrast, IDM segments files dynamically during the download process. It starts with a basic segment size and monitors available connections in real-time. As new bandwidth appears, IDM immediately splits the largest unfinished segment in half to feed that connection. Conversely, it merges smaller segments if connections decrease to optimize sizing.
This dynamic recalculating allows constant tuning of segment partitions based on real-time throughput. No connections sit idle, and optimal sizing is found automatically without manual tuning needed. The result is consistently maximized throughput no matter the conditions.

Advantages Over Static Segmentation

Compared to preallocated static segmentation, IDM's dynamic approach provides several key advantages:
  • Speed - By reacting instantly to bandwidth changes, dynamic segmentation ensures all possible connections are utilized at all times. This results in download rates up to 5 times faster than browsers or other accelerators in many cases.
  • Adaptability - Network variables like latency, dropped packets or extra available bandwidth mean little to dynamic segmentation as it recalculates seamlessly. Speed optimizations continue even with instability.
  • Simplicity - No manual tweaking of segment sizes is needed as IDM finds ideal sizing autonomously. This removes performance guesswork for non-technical users.
  • Resource usage - Statically segmented downloads can experience bottlenecks from uneven distribution, while dynamic sizing smooths out connection loads.
  • Protocol support - IDM's approach works transparently across HTTP/HTTPS, FTP and other protocols without special handling per transport layer.
Thanks to these dynamic features, IDM consistently delivers the absolute fastest possible speeds attainable on a given network without user adjustments required in most scenarios. Its technology overcomes limitations of static approaches that can't keep up with changing link conditions.

Dynamic Segmentation In Action

To visualize dynamic segmentation in practice, let's look at an example 1GB file download through IDM versus a browser:
Browser Download
  • The browser sees an average of 3 simultaneous connections are available.
  • It divides the file into 3MB static segments (1GB / 3 connections = ~3MB each).
  • Each connection downloads its segment sequentially without coordination.
  • If an extra connection appears later, it sits idle waiting for its preallocated segment.
IDM Download
  • IDM also starts with 3 connections and a basic 1MB segment size.
  • As each 1MB chunk completes, it splits the largest unfinished segment in half.
  • Halfway through, an extra connection becomes available.
  • IDM immediately splits the largest segment (500KB) again to use this new bandwidth.
  • Connections are always populated with work dynamically based on real-time capacity.
By adapting segmentation live, IDM is able to utilize all available links simultaneously without wasted idle time. This translation of additional throughput directly into faster speeds is why it frequently triples or more browser rates in real-world use.

YouTube Playlists Refuse to Loop (See Screenshot)?
Why is my playlist not looping after all these settings? I tried it WITH and without autoplay turned on. And this is refering to just letting it play the playlist on its own, Im not even hitting the next button, it does it on its own at the last video, it goes to a random video instead of looping

2023.11.23 03:59 nklv Need Final Feedback on 7800X3D High-End Gaming & Editing Build Before I Pull the Trigger!

Hey hey,
I'm currently piecing together a new rig and would love your insights on some of the choices I've made so far. Overall I'm going for the best performance while keeping noise levels reasonable. It will be used primarily for gaming, but with occasional video and photo editing. In terms of gaming I would be looking 1440p and occasionally 4k generally ideally at Ultra; I may may want to get a VR headset at some point in the future; I'd like to try the new Cities Skylines, but presumably I would need a super computer for it to run lol).
Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do) Yes. My questions are at the bottom of this post and largely refer to the fans/cooler, RAM and power supply. CPU, GPU, case, storage and motherboard are all decided on
What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?
Budget is £2100-2500 max.
In what country are you purchasing your parts?
I am based in the UK and sourcing my parts from UK sellers

Q&A
Q: When will [insert game name here] be cracked?
A: STOP! CrackWatch members are not psychic. Games get cracked by completely ANONYMOUS SCENE GROUPS who don't disclose their progress or plans to the general public so NO ONE knows WHEN and IF a certain game will be cracked.
Q: What are all these NFO thingies? Where do I download?
A: NFOs are text files included with game releases which contain information about the releases. CrackWatch only informs which games have been cracked. To download look for the releases on CS.RIN.RU's forum or torrent websites. Useful websites can be found in The Beginners Guide or PiratedGames's Mega Thread.
Q: WTF is Denuvo?
A: Denuvo is a Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology used to protect games from being cracked. Games that have Denuvo are harder to crack and usually take much longer. See Pinned Post for a list of Denuvo games.
Q: An update is out, but it includes the base game as well! Can I only download the update without redownloading the entire game?
A: Yes. CS.RIN.RU is your friend.

I also would like to apologize in advance for my mixture of miles and kilometers in this post...I was born in the US so I track all my personal runs and paces in miles, but the race was marked in kilometers so that's how I check-pointed the race.

Background

I (20M) am a former HS XC/Track runner. I wasn't bad but never really good enough that running at the collegiate level was on the table for me (5K PR was about 19:30). I stopped seriously training and had probably gone on 25 runs since I graduated from high school two years ago, although I did stay somewhat in shape by playing other sports (pickup basketball, soccer, etc). I moved out to Australia a few months ago and always wanted to go to New Zealand, so I signed up on a bit of an impulse decision and started training from pretty much zero regular running 6 weeks from the race.

Training

For the most part, I followed Marathon Handbook's 6-week half-marathon plan here. The base of it was running 4x a week according to the schedule below. Wanting to be fairly conservative, I set my initial goals to be A.) Go under 2 hours, B.) Just run the whole thing. After 2 weeks or so, I realized I was gaining pace much quicker than I thought I would, so I set another stretch goal at around 1:53 or so - basically a goal race pace of around 8:30 per mile.
My training schedule mostly looked like this:
Day Workout
Monday Training run (built up to 5 miles)
Tuesday Repeat 800s (built up to 6 reps)
Thursday Training run (built up to 5 miles)
Saturday Long run (built up to 10 miles)
I aimed to do my track repeats at about 7:00 mins/mile pace, training runs at around 8:30-9:00 per mile, and long runs an little bit slower between 9:30 and 10. In weeks 2 and 4, I also ran the last 5k of my long runs at my goal race pace, since I wanted some practice knowing what that felt like on tired legs.
Peak week was week 4 out of 6, then I tapered back down before the race.
I definitely hit some curveballs - my midterms fell around weeks 4/5 so I could only do three runs. I made sure not to skip my interval or long runs, though. And then, on Monday of race week, I came down with a cold. Ughhhh. I chugged chamomile tea and got as much sleep as I possibly could, but all I could get in on that last week was an easy 4-miler, and a 2 mile shakeout the day before the race (I also figured that I probably would be better off resting up than whatever fitness I would gain from slogging through my regular schedule). Luckily, I was back up to about 95% by the day before the race.

Pre-Race

I took a quick 3-hour flight from Sydney to Auckland on Friday afternoon and hit the race expo that day (a great move, as it turned out, since it ended up being super packed the next day). Picked up my race bib, and fell prey to purchasing a few things as well. Mainly a SpiBelt, which they were selling with race bib toggles for 10 USD, two pairs of running socks, and a Maurten drink mix.
Woke up the morning of the race at 4:30 AM, had my breakfast which was an oatmeal packet, a Clif Bar, a roll I picked up the previous day, and the drink mix. All of these were things I had tried out in my training and knew worked well for me (with the exception of the drink mix, which may not have been the wisest decision, but luckily it didn't bite me in the ass - only time I broke the nothing new on race day rule). Then walked over to the ferry terminal and took the quick 20-minute ride to the start line, which I got to an hour before the 6:50 start. Hit the bathrooms (had to wait about 30 mins in the line), then got all my gear ready to go, dropped my bag off, and did my usual warm-up routine before heading to the start line (which was self-seeded - I positioned myself a bit in front of the two-hour pacer).

Race

0-5k: Above all else, I did not want to go out too hard and end up dying out, so I took the first 5k a not quite easy pace, but at a pace where I realistically did not meaningfully increase my level of tiredness. Hit the first aid station at the 4k mark. All the stations had water and electrolytes, but I had never tried the drink they were offering and not wanting to chance it, I took water at all the aid stations.
5k-10k: After the first 5K, I got up to a pace that felt comfortably hard, but sustainable, and tried to stick it in cruise control for as long as I could. As it turned out, I was feeling pretty good, probably a combination of race-day adrenaline and some absolutely incredible weather, so this ended up being a little bit faster than I had originally thought I would aim for - closer to 8:20/mi than 8:30/mi. Really though, I tried to race by feel vs by pace for most of the race.
From the start through around 10k, it was a lot of smaller rolling hills. Since it was early on, I actually enjoyed it, as it helped break up the monotony a little bit. I also have long legs so I tend to be pretty efficient going down hill.
At the 9k mark, we passed the second aid station, where I took my first of two gels - Huma blueberry (which is what I had trained with). I'm not hardcore enough to suck up the whole thing in one go though, so I had it a few swallows at a time in the 400-600m before the aid station before washing it down with water.
10-16k: At this point we turned onto the main motorway. We also crossed the start line for the 11km race before it started, so lots of cheers there! Without the trees and buildings around us though, it got quite a bit windier. I spent a good chunk of this section trying to draft behind runners in front of me to save some energy. My pace plan stayed the same here - still trying to stay in cruise control at that 8:20-8:25 pace. Went through the next aid station at 12k - just water on this one. Towards the end of this stretch, we crossed the Auckland Harbour Bridge, which was the most killer climb of the whole race, with quite a few people stopping to walk. I managed to keep my legs churning but definitely slowed up (mile 10 in my splits).
As a fun sidenote, there is not a sidewalk or cycle path along the Auckland Harbour Bridge, so the race is actually one of the few times people get to cross it on foot.
16k-Finish: At this point, I started looking at the clock and doing some math. I had 5k to go at about 85 minutes elapsed, and I realized that if I bumped my pace up a bit to about 8 mins/mile, sub 1:50 was within reach, I still had some energy in reserve so I decided to go for it. I got a nice kickstart on that goal from the lengthy downhill coming off of the bridge, although I did get some kind of muscle(?) pain on my front right leg while coming down that hindered me a bit. It only came up in that one descent and never again though. I went through the last aid station at the 17k mark. I had originally intended to take my second gel at this point, but at my new faster pace I really wasn't feeling it too much, and I only had about 20 minutes left to run at that point anyway. I would have liked to have taken it earlier, but I usually take them with water, which I wasn't carrying, and the previous aid station was at 12k, which was right after my first gel at 9k. I got about half-2/3s of it down and chucked the rest, then washed it down with a cup of water.
I had heard that the hill after the bridge around 18k was the worst, so I really prepared myself for that - but I didn't end up finding it that bad. I can understand that if you weren't expecting it it would be super disheartening to come over the bridge and have to climb again, but the actual magnitude of the hill wasn't terrible.
From that point, it was a mad dash to the finish. My legs were really getting sore at this point and it took everything I had to hang on to the faster pace. I was staring at my watch counting down the tenths of a mile until I was done. With about 70m to go, the finish line came into view with the clock at 1:49:17. I kicked into a sprint and crossed the line with a gun time of 1:49:29 (net time 1:48:54). If I could, I would have shaved some more seconds by kicking earlier (say the last 300 or 400) but I didn't know the course well enough to know how far I was and I didn't see any signs past the 20k mark, but not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Post-race

Stumbled my way through the finish chute, collecting my cup of water, banana, and medal, before picking up my gear bag, and sitting down to stretch out while watching the Rugby World Cup final - the All Blacks were playing, so it was televised on a big screen at the finish line (there were also spectators along the course providing score updates, and I also heard some of the pacers were providing updates to their group on the course as well!). After that, went back to my hotel room for a bit, demolished some Nando's, took a nap, and went out for a beer that night with some folks I met. Did some sightseeing the next day, before flying back home to Sydney.

What's next?

While I loved this experience, I think I'll stick with half-marathon or shorter for the foreseeable future - mainly because a marathon training block is a huge time commitment, and I'm a college student with lots of obligations that tends to move around a lot. Would still love to do one some day though!
One thing that I think might be cool (either at shorter distances or once I get a few more races under my belt) is to try being a pacer too. I did spend lots of time in HS training on a track, so I built up a fairly good intuition for holding different paces - although it remains to be seen how much of that I still have.
Made with a new race report generator created by herumph.

2023.10.09 02:19 aceaxelblaze Three 4k monitor setup not working properly

Original Post on Mint Forum
I am a noob in Linux systems although I have been using Linux for a few years.
I have a 3 4k@60 monitor setup that I was running without any issues in my Mint 21.1. One monitor was horizontally placed and the other 2 were vertically placed on each side the horizontal one. I have 3080 ti GPU and 2 monitors are connected with HDMI and the other one is connected with DisplayPort.
After I moved house, I saw that the middle monitor's display was split and the right side of the display is showing part of the screen of the right monitor. The left side of the display shows the middle monitor's screen.
I tried solving it in the display settings. Tried disabling monitors and enabling back in but no luck. So I installed the new Mint 21.2 and still seeing this issue. (I have a dual boot setup with Windows and Linux).
I saw that others pasted the output of inxi -Fxxxrz and xrander so I am also pasting the outputs of my system here.
inxi -Fxxxrz output:

2023.10.05 22:34 agent4256 Reolink B800 camera's with Neolink -> Frigate

Reolink B800 camera's with Neolink -> Frigate
Hello all -
Just sharing some information for those of you that have older Reolink B800 cameras that won't produce a "Clear" 4k stream in RTSP.

I've spent the last week going back and forth with Reolink tech support. Per their words the B800 camera's can't produce an HEVC H265 4k stream.
The best I'd be able to get is an h264 stream (896 x 512 @ 20FPS) through the Reolink NVR using this kind of URL:
http://NVR_IP/flv??port=1935&app=bcs&stream=channel0_ext.bcs&user=username&password=password
The second best option was to get a resolution of 640 x 360 @ 15FPS using the following URL:
rtsp://username:password@NVR_IP:554/h264Preview_01_sub
Per our back and forth on email, the H265 stream was just unavailable. They even tried to see if I could RMA my 5 year old camera's (which won't work because their own warranty return period is 2 years.)

Enter Neolink https://github.com/thirtythreeforty/neolink
It sounded promising, except I had upgraded my camera's from Version 2.0.0.17_20042200 to Version 3.0.0.183_21012800 using firmware Reolink provided. This firmware didn't work well with Neolink - it led to a lot of camera freezing and pixelated videos.
In searching for good firmware I found this github account: https://github.com/AT0myks/reolink-fw-archive which has an archive of old Reolink firmware's. The one provided from reolink matched what this site was providing. So I took a risk and downgraded Version 3.0.0.183_21012800 to Version 3.0.0.136_20120900 and low and behold I had better success. Until the pixelated video returned.
Through more googling I came across https://github.com/QuantumEntangledAndy/neolink, an updated fork of the original Neolink project. It seemed to get me past the pixelation issues, it records in full 4k resolution and uses a docker hosted on Unraid (which also happens to host my Frigate NVR docker as well).
The stream url is now at full Resolution - same as set in reolink NVR app H265 HVEC - 2560 x 1440, FPS: 30. Audio plays through directly from camera.
rtsp://NEOLINK_IP:port/cameraName/
Technical things I did to make it all work:
Neolink docker issues - the neolink.toml file I ended up placing in a network share in /mnt/use/neolink/config.toml This then allowed the docker to specify the /etc/neolink.toml which the app needs to run properly. So the setup in the docker is this:

neolink_config to get config.toml to work
The directions to build the docker in Unraid kept making a folder named config.toml which caused the program to crash because it never found a file because Unraid kept creating a folder? wtfmate.

  1. Next I had to allocate the RTSP: port to 8553 with the container port of 8554 (because it would then conflict with Frigate since both reference port 8554 on the same machine.).
Host port 8553, Container port 8554
This allowed me to specify rtsp://unraid_ip:8553/cameraName to view the video feeds from the B800 camera's after neolink did its magic.

  1. When switching from the Neolink repository at thirtythreeforty/neolink to quantumentangledandy/neolink all I had to do was edit my docker container to replace the respository:
    quantumentangledandy/neolink

changing neolink from 3340 to quantumtangledandy
Apply - it redownloads and away you go.

So far i've set up 2 - B800 camera's with a config.toml as shown below:
[[cameras]] name = "Sidegate" username = "username" password = "password" address = "IP_of_POE_B800_Camera:9000" stream = "mainStream" [[cameras]] name = "Frontporch" username = "username" password = "password" address = "IP_of_POE_B800_Camera:9000" stream = "both"
Through testing I have found the best resolution with the fewest pixelated videos is to edit the stream information in the Reolink desktop app. I've set the "HIGH CLEAR" settings to 2560 x 1440 with FPS: 25 and Max Bitrate kbps to 6144
At the same time, Frigate + Coral.ai USB accelerator is set to detect via the "LOW FLUENT" feed at 640 x 360 with FPS: 7 and max bitrate at 160
Reolink Desktop App stream settings for B800 camera's

Now... to import video feeds into Frigate this is how they're called in the yaml Config:
Front_Porch: ffmpeg: inputs: # High Resolution Stream - path: rtsp://UNRAID_IP:8553/Frontporch/mainStream input_args: preset-rtsp-generic #added to clean up ffmpeg errors roles: - record # Low Resolution Stream - path: rtsp://UNRAID_IP:8553/Frontporch/subStream input_args: preset-rtsp-generic #added to clean up ffmpeg errors roles: - detect record: enabled: true events: pre_capture: 5 post_capture: 5 retain: default: 10 detect: enabled: true width: 640 height: 360 fps: 7 objects: track: - person - dog - cat - fox
Anyways - if you were like me - don't get disappointed that Reolink B800 camera's won't do 4k streams over RTSP. They will, Neolink is your friend.

2023.10.01 22:24 januszmk Performance issues

Hi,
I thought about giving this another try, but I am having some strange issues with performance and some apps not behaving correctly.
Tried to compare built in benchmark of Cyberpunk (with newest patch).
HW: R9 7950x, 2x 16GB 6000MHz ram, XFX Speedster MERC319 AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, ASUS TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS.
Kernel: 6.5.5, Qemu: 8.1.1, libvirt: 9.6.0,
guest: windows 11, newest amd whql drivers.

Tried to compare built in benchmark of Cyberpunk (with newest patch), and the average fps for 4k and 1440p is similar, 1440p is 20% performance of host, and 4k is 40% of host.
host 4k: avg fps 45.99, min fps 35.75, max fps 57.66 guest 4k: avg fps 18.40, min fps: 9.35, max fps: 27.12 host 1440p: avg fps 94.27, min fps 63.42, max fps: 125.56 guest 1440p: avg fps 18.77, min fps: 11.67, max fps: 72.99
settings are high, dlss, dsr, fsr, dlaa, xess, raytracing disabled. fullscreen mode.
in addition if I try 3d mark, it doesn't work unless I uninstall their hw detection service - because detecting hardware never ends.
also amd overlay from the game (alt+r) doesn't work (it works on host), and randomly I get that amd detected black screen (but I did not see any). Tried to reinstall amd drivers, if I try web version - it complains that I don't have amd card, if I download full version - installation goes without issues.
While doing cyberpunk benchmark I noticed that GPU usage is only around ~20%, cpu ~30%. ram usage is ~60% (using guest monitoring tool).

I know I can do more optimization like isolating specific cpu cores, memory hugepages, but I don't think that would have so big impact (and I don't run anything demanding on host). Anyone have some idea what can be wrong?
Thanks

2023.10.01 18:51 Matthieu101 [Build Help] Finishing touches on a mid-range build!

Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)
Yes, I've been working on my own build and using Tom's Hardware. In the end, my build was getting too pricey so I'm going to just use Tom's Hardware's 1,000 dollar build.
What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.
Gaming, media center for living room.
If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)
Right now I'm rocking a 1070, usually play at 1080/1440 on a 4k TV. It's all pretty old, so the TV only goes to 60fps.
Will need to get a new TV soon, so maybe I'll want faster frames. But a rock solid 60 is perfect for me.
Basically would like to hit 1080/1440p at a rock solid 60. And general entertainment use.
Realized I needed a new computer when I tried running Starfield and it didn't even run with the lowest possible settings, it's over 7 years old so it's showing its age big time. If it can run Starfield at 1080p/60fps at medium settings, I think that's a good start.
What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?
1,000 to 1,3000 bucks. I don't need all the peripherals this time around, so I don't need to include OS or anything else like that.
In what country are you purchasing your parts?
United States.
Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

I'm asking to see if there have been any major updates or better values. I don't need a top of the line rig, and if I can't get any big increases in performance for a hundred or two more, then this will just work.
My current computer lasted about 7 years without any upgrades needed, but Starfield was the first game that completely tanked my rig. Just unplayable.
If this one can get me another 5+ years with solid performance, I'll be happy!

Here's my updated build based off of recommendations!

Pre-Race & Training

My training went as well as it could have. Did nothing fancy or outrageous. Got to just above 50 miles and stayed there for 6 weeks straight. Did solid workouts and long runs. Nothing earth shattering but after many missed marathons with shit weather I knew I just needed to be consistent and then if it comes together on race day I could have a good one. The one thing I changed up is that I added much more marathon pace to my long runs. Loosely followed the Pfitz 18/55 schedule for the long ones. Peaking at 10 miles @ MP in a 20mile run. I always shied away from MP in long runs and would normally just do some MP for last 5k typically. So this gave me confidence and practice.
My A goal for Berlin was a 3:35 which for me is a BQ but I knew it was gonna bit a slight stretch. But I was confident that I could beat my 3:44 from spring run on a hilly course with a non ideal build up. For the BQ I am not too obsessed with it because I know if I keep making gains I will get there so that helped mentally.I stayed with friends before the marathon. Which was great I could arrive early on thursday to get my bib on friday and being able to rest the day before the marathon. What I did not anticipate is that I suddenly started feeling off and slightly sick friday after getting our bib. And my watch agreed with me. All my stats were off. I was dealing with some sort of bug. Well I took a nap and rested to try and kick the thing out but I was still worried. Was I gonna wake up sick? Thanks god it was only friday and I still hat saturday to recover. Saturday I woke up feeling better with no more systemic symptoms just an oddly dry almost sore throat. But it was super light so I did my shakeout (which felt great) and then rested the whole day and tried to soothe my throat with cough drops. Race day came and I actually slept super good before it and woke up with no lingering sickness feeling. I was so happy. The race was on. I got dressed had a quick breakfast and walked to the entrance. My friends live so close to the start line its just a 20min stroll to get into the start area. The cool temps at the start were amazing. Slight breeze and with throwaway clothes it was comfortable. Very different from 2021 where even in the start corral I was too warm already. I was excited rather than nervous. Usually my heart rate is already super high waiting and I’m stressed about having to do a marathon but today it was all excitement. I chatted with several other participants and after we send off Kipchoge and the pros we were off shortly after that too.

Start

The start is always crazy with everyone going out super fast. So I intentionally tried to chill. Settled in a rhythm and just marvelled at the victory column we were approaching. This is just another run I got this. After the race I looked at my strava splits and I PRd every single segment on course EXCEPT for the first km segment. So I definitely did not go out too fast! The first 5km I was still almost cold and slowly started to warm up. It was cloudy with a small breeze and fresh. Perfect running temps and from step one I felt my legs felt good & my rhythm smooth. I settled in and didn’t want to go out too fast just on cruise control. I saw my friends who I stayed with at km 6 which is always a highlight. I checked my heart rate And was shocked to see I was still in the low 160s at this stage. Two years ago almost instantly it went to the 170s and was super high the whole race. For me my threshold is around 176-178 and I don’t want to be anywhere close to that. So low 160s is great. For a moment I worried I wasn’t running hard enough because I’m usually at least in the higher 160s during a marathon. But here I made the conscious decision to just go with what felt right and not worry about the stats. So I held back ever so slightly. It’s a marathon after all and this felt super sustainable and right around goal pace but most importantly. I trusted my instinct.

Mid-race

We headed to the eastern parts of town and crossing the 10km almost exactly at 50min. Right on pace and feeling good. Somewhere before the 15k mark the clouds started to clear a bit and it became more sunny. For a minute I worried it would get too hot. But then I reined in those thoughts and told myself that I still feel fresh and there is plenty of shade and the max of the day is only predicted to be 19 degrees and not humid. Just keep going I kept repeating to myself. My heart rate was still in the sweet spot 160s range. I felt really strong but I knew this early on it was meaningless, I needed to wait and see how it felt later on. We had planned to see my friend at the half marathon so it became my next goal post. Legs were still rolling and pace felt almost too easy. But before 21km I didn’t want to allow myself to even think of going harder. This felt right. At the half mark I saw my friend and it made me so happy. 1:48 on the clock. Pretty much right spot onto what I hoped for. The whole course was electric. I heard my name so much and just the cheers overall were crazy. I cannot say enough about the Berlin crowd. It was the best and I was smiling most of the time just taking it all in.

Second Half

Now I knew the tough part would start. Between half marathon and 30k you are still so far from the finish but often start to get a little fatigued. So I tried to focus on keeping my rhythm and not stress about it. And somehow those kms ticked by. I took water at every stop and it was pretty crowded at the stations and people slowing meant I had to weave a lot. But I still felt strong. At Km 28 the only incline of the course finishes and the course turns back towards the city. Today I felt great still. when that part was the beginning of the end for me in 2021. It didn’t break me today. And mentally I calculated that I had only around 1h10 left. Somehow that seems less scary than 14km sounded. Could I keep this pace for an hour? I told myself: hell yes! I started to realize I was having a really really good day. Legs still felt good and an hour of running at this pace didn’t intimidate me. In my head I kept telling myself: einfach nur geil! I was enjoying even the late parts of this marathon. I made it my goal to try and even split or even slight negative split. This was the day. I would race this marathon. The next few kms passed slower and I started to feel the effort a little in my legs. At km 35 my watch showed 3h almost on the dot. 35 min to go. I could do this. 35min is nothing, I kept repeating.

Finish

My pace slowed just a tiny tiny bit by like 10 sec per km after km 37. But I did not obsess over it. Things are still clicking keep going. I knew my friend was gonna be at Km 39 at Potsdamer Platz. So now my goal was just to get there. I was working harder now. A quick check of my watch showed the heart rate in the high 170ies. But this was fine I am working hard but not too hard. The sun was out now and beating down on us. So I poured water on me at every stop. Luckily I wasn't feeling overheated the sun didn't seem to impact me because the air temperature wasn't too high. All that suffering in the heat this summer is really is paying off. I ignored my splits and told myself to keep the turnover. Light feet. Pick it up.
Legs were a bit heavier now but My form held together and I didn’t feel energy depleted. Right then and there I knew it was my day. I wasn’t gonna let it slip. 15min of running. I can most definitely do that. I didn’t find my friend at Km 39 which was a bummer. Looking for him in the crowd and a very crazy water stop led to my slowest split of the day with a 5:27km. I told myself to refocus and now just give everything now. High fived some kids ignored the last water stop and ran the endless feeling zig zag before the course turns onto the unter den linden boulevard and we could see the gate! Once you see the Brandenburg Gate a few hundred meters in the distance it’s pure joy. Didn’t look at my watch, just took my hat off and celebrated the whole way to the finish. Saw my friend just before the gate. Actually running through it is just glorious. I knew I had my PR but what I was most proud of is that I knew I had just run my best marathon ever. That gate is better than even the finish line. Once I crossed it with a quick glance at my watch I knew I could finish in 3:38 but needed to pick it up a tiny bit. With a last effort I finished 3:38:48

Post-race

Right after finishing I kept walking and was shocked that my quads were pretty functional. Like what? I kept moving to the water and food and it wasn’t even that terrible. My legs never felt this good throughout a marathon, I was amazed. Was this the strength training I started adding back in 3 months ago? It must have been because that is the main thing I changed up this training cycle. I went back to a gym and lifted heavy not just body weight stuff at home. I got my bag and kept walking to the exit. No sitting down needed. The best part about running a German marathon is they have alcohol free beer at the finish. So much better to rehydrate than plain water. I found my friends quickly and then we sat down on the lawn in front of the Bundestag. I still couldn’t believe what just had happened. I joked that it almost wasn’t hard enough 😂 Did I just like understand the marathon? The whole experience was so incredibly I felt just floating on cloud 9. The German word “geil” just circled in my head. After checking my splits I didn’t get quite a negative split but only ran the second half 1.5min slower which to me is almost even. I knew I had just run exactly to my current abilities and would not change a freaking thing in retrospect. My splits were super consistent with only a 10 second spread always runniing 25min20-25min40 per 5km. Only the last split from 35-40km was slightly slower at 26:20. I am super proud of this race. This was my race. Danke Berlin 🥰

My Takeaways from this race

My three main takeaways personally from this race are:
  1. Lifting heavy shit is a game changer for me. I do real lifting in a gym since three months. Just once a week but some squats and deadlifts and other basic stuff. Made some really quick beginner gains. Nothing fancy really. Just tried and true basics and wow I have never felt better in a race in terms of muscles and form holding up. As a woman with few "natural" strength this has been a game changer. I attribute a large fraction of this success to it.
  2. Fuel fuel fuel. Since I started taking in 60g of carbs an hour in my last two marathons I had energy until the end. No more bonking. Seriously get used to those intakes. When I took 25g/hour I bonked more or less every single time. Even when I thought I didn't hit the wall I still felt terrible in the end most marathons. Seriously we runners way underfuel on average. Edit: I take a SIS beta fuel with 40g of carbs every 40min and it’s been a game changer. The double dose of sugars can be hard to adapt to at first but then it’s so much easier than taking 3 gels per hour to get the same level of carbs in.
  3. Really don't stress the taper. I traveled from 2.5 weeks - 1 week out and ran only short and easy during that time. Then the week of the race I did some substantial running the weekend before and come tuesday my legs were horrible. So I backed off. Just a 6k run on wednesday then traveled to berlin. Still felt shit friday so I rested. Quick 4k shakeout Saturday and was like a new person with fresh legs. If you are tired from travel or training just REST especially the days leading up. On race day my legs were rested and springy.

Build Help/Ready:

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.
Nephew wants to build 1st pc. I built one for him 4 years ago, but he is wanting to upgrade/build his own. I built the last one but am out of my element when comparing parts. he sent me a list of what he was looking at but I don't know if it is a significant upgrade to what he has now.
If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)
at least 60fps at 4k or 120fps at lower resolution
What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?
$1000 is his budget. I'd be willing to kick in another $1500 if needed

here is the parts list for the pc we built 4 years ago. I'd like to know if anything in the new list is not a significant upgrade. I think I can talk him into keeping the case. Would the power supply be okay to reuse as well? The cpu cooler listed is not in the build. I had trouble installing it so we went with a coolermaster I think.

2023.08.10 16:25 NatesYourMate It's time for Thrifty Gamer Boy to spend some big bucks and become a Frame-Crushing Chad - Build Review

Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)
Yes dude
What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.
Gaming
If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)
I just wanna crush frames brah
In reality I've just had an iffy build for a long time, so I'm ready to sink some cash and get the best stuff. We play all kinds of games, Battlebit being a terrible example right now since my toaster-tier build can run that, but Starfield and other AAA titles are sure to be in the future. At the moment, I have a 1440p 144Hz monitor but I'll move that to 2nd monitor duty and grab a 4K one once my funds recover.
What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?
I'm at $3k right now and that's the limit for sure

Mostly looking for input like incompatible parts, objectively overpriced or problematic parts, etc. I went with ASUS and Corsair bc I've used their stuff in the past and had a good experience. Kind of wondering about that Power Supply in particular, not sure why the 2021 is a normal price and their 2023 models are like double...?

I don't know the exact model of Alienware he wants, but he wants the 4090 and has high-end taste. The build above is what he sent me to justify that the Alienware is better for the price, but again, I don't know which pre-built specifically. I understand that the PCPP list includes a $1000 display that won't be included in the Alienware build.
Thoughts on this build or an Alienware Pre-Built with 4090 that would be good for this budget -- which way would you lean?

Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)
yes
What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.
Playing Baldur's Gate 3, maybe some other games, maybe some android dev. I would like to get into VR later, so having a PC not choking on rendering would be great.
If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)
I am not sure between 1440p and 4k, since I couldn't find an appropriate monitor yet (do not want VA, want contrast, do not want OLED due to burn-in). I would like to play with the highest settings, 60+ fps.
What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?
up to 2500-3000 eur

The above parts are preliminary. Not sure if the MOBO is the most appropriate given the other parts. The prices are orientational, since I will be buying it all in the EU.
I decided to go with AMD GPU, because I don't care much about nvidia's AI stuff & rather have the memory. And I didn't look into Intel CPUs, since I want to support AMD this time? Sounds weird now that I type it out :D
So is the MOBO alright for the parts? Can anything be improved or anything I should know about?
Thanks
