2024.05.13 21:19 doesitmatter_no The Endo Survival Guide

Several people have approached me that they might have endometriosis. Lifelong warrior so thought I would share my tips and tricks I put together for my friends and family to share with you :) Hope this helps someone!
ENDOMETRIOSIS SURGERY FACTS
ENDOMETRIOSIS LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY (WHAT TO EXPECT)
PRE-SURGERY
POST-OP PREP
SPACE PREP
  1. Make sure your bed or couch is prepped. I stayed on the first level for the first 2ish days before feeling well enough to stay upstairs.
  2. I used a pregnancy pillow on the bed to help me stay on my back while sleeping and help you feel cozy.
  3. Stock the house with foods that will be light for your stomach. Think soups and casseroles! Saltine crackers, broths, rices etc..
  4. If you have a raised bed, get a step stool to assist. It’s best to sit on the side of the bed and slowly lay your upper body down while bringing your knees up and over to your back. You will need to use arm strength the first couple of days to get you up and over since you can’t use the abdomen.
  5. Water and Beverages stocked at all times. I have a reusable water bottle and avoid carbonated beverages for the time being. They fill you with gas for the procedure so it may make those symptoms worse.
  6. Netflix, Kindle, Puzzles, Craft Projects…visits with friends. Whatever makes the time pass, set it up ahead of time so it’s handy.
  7. Items to Keep on Hand: Baby Wipes, heating pads, pads/diapers, candles, essential oils, things that smell good haha
BOWEL PREP
This is dependent on the type of surgery you are having, but its good to have Gatorade, Magnesium Citrate (liquid), laxatives and enemas on hand just in case you need these.
ON SURGERY DAY
It’s important to follow the instructions on what to stop taking and/or eating/drinking prior to the surgery. Wear comfy clothes (wide elastic waistband) and slides with cozy socks. Double check your to go bag and breath.
AT THE HOSPITAL
  1. Do your check-ins and keep your people with you as long as you want.
  2. Make sure to read all the consent forms and ask any questions upfront. Make any advance directives clear.
  3. Just try to remain calm as there’s a lot of down time while they do intake. It is about 2 hours of prep before they bring you in for the surgery itself.
  4. They will ask you the same questions over and over again, that’s normal and trust me, you want to confirm it’s all being done properly.
  5. If you need something for anxiety, they will be sure to give you something if you ask :)
  6. You will be wearing a gown, socks, funky underwear and a cool hair net haha wear the gown backward so you keep warm and keep the butt covered.
  7. Vitals will happen and the anesthesiologist will come and speak with you to make sure they prep the right meds beforehand. Bring up any concerns here with them!
  8. You may be wheeled or walked into surgery. I’ve only ever walked in and laid on the table myself.
  9. They will then put the IV in your arm and sometimes will put on a mask, they will then ask you to count backwards and before you know it, you will be awake again!
RECOVERY
ENDOMETRIOSIS MAINTENANCE
Here’s the tips and tricks I found helpful for maintaining my pain and symptoms (GI and back pain related):
  1. Pelvic Floor Therapy: This is important for keeping the muscles in your pelvis healthy and strong to maintain your structure and also help manage pain. Consult with your doctor on whether this is right for you.
  2. Physical Therapy: I do PT for my back and pelvic floor since it’s all related. We focus on Myofascial Release Therapy to help break up the adhesions and give me more mobility. This helps with temporary pain relief (reduction in number), but that is always welcome :)
  3. Acupuncture: I swear by Acupuncture. I don’t know what it does or why, but it works. It’s not a cure by any means, but it's great for relaxation, fertility, digestion, endometriosis, sleep, etc.. I can go on, but it’s not covered by insurance plans all the time so you will need to check and see what you’re able to take on.
  4. Diet/Exercise:
    1. Eating high protein, lower fat/carbs (not none just low) helps your body, but overall learn your trigger foods! This will go a long way.
    2. Ginger, turmeric and fennel all help with bloating. I like to drink them in tea form when I’m feeling particularly hard stomached as it’s a good natural way to decrease the bloat. Peppermint also works for some, for me it irritates my GERD.
    3. Chamomile for relaxation
    4. Walking and movement are important. I cannot do anything high impact due to my sacroiliitis diagnosis, so I stick with light yoga and walking.
  5. Alcohol/Other Substances: Don’t do it. Don’t touch it. You’ll thank me later on this point.
  6. Sleep: Insomnia is a very real thing. I think I went 2 or 3 days at its worst one time and I cannot say enough how important trying to keep the same sleep schedule will benefit you. Waking and sleeping around the same time each day will still feel exhausting but at least you know your body is getting the most sleep it can get.
  7. Medications/Supplements:
    1. Ibprofuern: This does NOT work for me. I have GERD and ulcers so I cannot take NSAIDs, but with that in mind, NSAIDs are supposedly the best pain medication over the counter to help you manage it.
    2. Pain Killers: These are AS NEEDED. I try to refrain and leave these for the TRULY bad days which I try to spread out. Not even worth it sometimes, because I don’t like how I feel and sometimes vomit after taking them. But they do help the pain!
    3. IUD/Orilissa: An IUD will NOT do anything. If you are diagnosed, ask your doctor about Orilissa or similar medicines instead of birth control methods. This will not stop the growth, just suppress it. There are side effects and it is only a short term solution.
    4. Linzess: This worked well for me for constipation symptoms when they got severe. Definitely recommend bringing this to your doctor if you’re truly suffering and they have not yet mentioned. I also resorted after trying magnesium citrate
    5. CBD Lotions/Salves: For my pelvis, I use Healing Rose CBD Salve in Orange and Lavender (https://www.thehealingroseco.com/product/orange-lavender-with-chamomile-herbal-salve-300mg-cbd/). For my back, I use a medical grade CBD lotion with menthol (https://cbdclinic.co/clinical-strength-series/). I also use a CBD massage oil from Healing Rose of the same scent when doing myofascial release at home. I also use Somedays Cramp Cream (https://somedays.com/products/period-cramp-cream?variant=42062153842853).
  8. Heating Pads and Ice Pack: I have several varieties of heating pads. A cordless travel heating pad (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FPTJL4G?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details), a plug-in heating pad (lhttps://www.hsn.com/products/pure-enrichment-purerelief-xxl-heating-pad-with-9-cord/22188460) and stick on patches (https://www.thermacare.com/ - I use the back patches but reverse them to the front for better coverage). For hot flashes and night sweats (also if you need to relax while anxious) place an ice pack over your chest to help cool or calm down.
  9. Self-Care: No joke, massages, facials, epsom salt baths, sound baths, reiki….anything that you find relaxing. Do it. Try it! They also make CBD bath bombs Ive been wanting to check out.
  10. TENs Machine: I really want one, don’t have one, but people swear by them (the heating pad linked to MyObi has a TENs version - https://myobistore.com/en-us/collections/my-obi-belts/products/apollo-2-0).
  11. Pregnancy Pillow: This one sounds so lame, but I bought a pregnancy pillow for my first endometriosis surgery since I’m a side sleeper to help keep me on my back during recovery. It changed by life! It helps my anxiety and makes me comfortable while sleeping. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08YYVRXLM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)..
  12. Heated Blankets/Cozy Blankets: Make yourself feel better with a cozy blanket. Do it, I dare you!
  13. Endo To-Go Bag: Includes heating pads (travel, plug-in and patches), medications, balms/salves, essential oils and pads/protection items, change of clothes, wet wipes.
  14. Sex Life: I’m single, I don’t have a partner to worry about communicating this issue with at this point, but go slow and communicate given eventually this will have to be a conversation. What I have learned is that if you do have sex and feel pain. Immediately stop! If you associate sex with pain mentally in that moment, it may cause fear in doing so down the line so it’s best to stop the moment you feel any pain occur.
  15. Work Life: I work a demanding job so it was not working with the appointments and care I needed to manage pain. Always get FMLA from your doctor for intermittent leave based on your company's policies. This protects you from flare-ups and appointments. Short Term Disability is based on your situation with work so talk with them about any leave of absence for surgery and recovery and ensure the medical providers fill out the paperwork appropriately.
  16. Friends/Family: This one is the worst. I have to cancel and make plans all the time based on how I feel. I like to line up a bunch of plans for three months out and do my best to make them happen at the beginning of the month when I know I’m most likely to feel good. I just say I’ll make things up to them when I get better and those who have stuck around have been truly amazing friends, but don’t be upset that some might be over the day in and out of what you’re going through. It’s hard for you and sometimes others and it’s just a part of the relationships we’re meant to experience in life. Most people (unless they have endometriosis) don’t understand it so it can feel isolating, but there’s others out there who know what you’re going through and are willing to chat. Just gotta find them and reach out on social media, online etc..
  17. Journaling Symptoms: Guilty of not being the best at this always, but it's good to track your symptoms to see how they work and operate. It helps not only you plan for it, but also your doctors in how best to handle your care. Take photos of things that make sense to show your doctors! Discharge, bowels etc..can sometimes help diagnose or judge with the images.
  18. Next to Bed Kit: Make sure your nightstand is stocked with the essentials for your bad days. Makes it easier to access the items you need when you just can’t get up and get it.
  19. Squatty Potty: Another thing that is majorly life changing on constipation days! Get one or you can make your own :) Take a stack of books and stack them at equal heights on each side and put your feet up. The trick is making sure you’re in a squat with your knees high to your ears.
  20. Clothing: Dressing for this is key but you still want to look cute! Joggers with a stretchy waist are my go to pants, but wide leg trousers with a stretchy waist help with ease of removal but also comfort and brings some style to the look.
  21. Pads: I wear Always Discreet vs. pads. I find when you need to wear them full time for incontinence it just makes it more comfortable. They have different cuts and styles so definitely check them out!

2024.05.13 20:22 heero1224 Modular Rope Bridge Questions

Modular Rope Bridge Questions
Has anyone made modular rope bridges before and are they worth the hassle vs buying 3d printed ones? I'm thinking of doing it following my hand drawn sketches and various pictures from the internet of actual rope bridges and even some 3d printed ones.
MATERIALS For a small one without handrails: popsicle sticks Kitchen twine 4x Small magnets
With handrails using stopper knots: Small Bridge 4x 2.5x1x1 cm dowel for end posts (Bass or other hardwood, not balsa)
With handrails and pegs: Same as with handrails using stoppers 4x 0.5cm high bamboo skewers for pegs Mdf for basing end supports to keep pegs and supports at correct locations and tension.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY 1) cut boards to length and notch them 2) drill and attach magnets (if not doing pegs) 3) Stick onto a piece of tape to streamline painting/staining one side 4) stain/paint, flip and repeat 5) stain twine (with oil wash or a dark tea) 6) Connect boards (if not doing supports)
IF DOING SUPPORTS 6) cut and drill/notch sqr dowels and/or pegs 7) stain/paint 8a1) (if not doing pegs) glue supports above end board magnets 8a2) Pass length of twine slightly longer than bridge through one end's supports and knot. 8b1) (if doing pegs) glue supports to small mdf pieces slightly wider than bridge 8b2) glue pegs ~2/3 height of support from support, continuing angle formed by supports to bridge 8b3) tie twine to peg, then wrap around support. 9) every 2/3 boards, tie a piece of twine from rail to bridge until at end 10a) pass through end supports and double knot 10b1) wrap around support and tie to peg on far end 11 [ALL VERSIONS]) use several coats of watered down pva on all knots to reinforce 12b) texture mdf as needed
TLDR Any suggestions or improvements for material or construction methodologies would be greatly appreciated.

2024.05.13 07:25 Willy_Fisher Count Magnus.

By what means the papers out of which I have made a connected story came into my hands is the last point which the reader will learn from these pages. But it is necessary to prefix to my extracts from them a statement of the form in which I possess them. They consist, then, partly of a series of collections for a book of travels, such a volume as was a common product of the forties and fifties. Horace Marryat's Journal of a Residence in Jutland and the Danish Isles is a fair specimen of the class to which I allude. These books usually treated of some unfamiliar district on the Continent. They were illustrated with woodcuts or steel plates. They gave details of hotel accommodation, and of means of communication, such as we now expect to find in any well-regulated guide-book, and they dealt largely in reported conversations with intelligent foreigners, racy innkeepers and garrulous peasants. In a word, they were chatty. Begun with the idea of furnishing material for such a book, my papers as they progressed assumed the character of a record of one single personal experience, and this record was continued up to the very eve, almost, of its termination. The writer was a Mr. Wraxall. For my knowledge of him I have to depend entirely on the evidence his writings afford, and from these I deduce that he was a man past middle age, possessed of some private means, and very much alone in the world. He had, it seems, no settled abode in England, but was a denizen of hotels and boarding-houses. It is probable that he entertained the idea of settling down at some future time which never came; and I think it also likely that the Pantechnicon fire in the early seventies must have destroyed a great deal that would have thrown light on his antecedents, for he refers once or twice to property of his that was warehoused at that establishment. It is further apparent that Mr. Wraxall had published a book, and that it treated of a holiday he had once taken in Brittany. More than this I cannot say about his work, because a diligent search in bibliographical works has convinced me that it must have appeared either anonymously or under a pseudonym. As to his character, it is not difficult to form some superficial opinion. He must have been an intelligent and cultivated man. It seems that he was near being a Fellow of his college at Oxford—Brasenose, as I judge from the Calendar. His besetting fault was pretty clearly that of over-inquisitiveness, possibly a good fault in a traveller, certainly a fault for which this traveller paid dearly enough in the end. On what proved to be his last expedition, he was plotting another book. Scandinavia, a region not widely known to Englishmen forty years ago, had struck him as an interesting field. He must have lighted on some old books of Swedish history or memoirs, and the idea had struck him that there was room for a book descriptive of travel in Sweden, interspersed with episodes from the history of some of the great Swedish families. He procured letters of introduction, therefore, to some persons of quality in Sweden, and set out thither in the early summer of 1863. Of his travels in the North there is no need to speak, nor of his residence of some weeks in Stockholm. I need only mention that some savant resident there put him on the track of an important collection of family papers belonging to the proprietors of an ancient manor-house in Vestergothland, and obtained for him permission to examine them. The manor-house, or herrgård, in question is to be called Råbäck (pronounced something like Roebeck), though that is not its name. It is one of the best buildings of its kind in all the country, and the picture of it in Dablenberg's Suecia antiqua et moderna, engraved in 1694, shows it very much as the tourist may see it to-day. It was built soon after 1600, and is, roughly speaking, very much like an English house of that period in respect of material—red-brick with stone facings—and style. The man who built it was a scion of the great house of De la Gardie, and his descendants possess it still. De la Gardie is the name by which I will designate them when mention of them becomes necessary. They received Mr. Wraxall with great kindness and courtesy, and pressed him to stay in the house as long as his researches lasted. But, preferring to be independent, and mistrusting his powers of conversing in Swedish, he settled himself at the village inn, which turned out quite sufficiently comfortable, at any rate during the summer months. This arrangement would entail a short walk daily to and from the manor-house of something under a mile. The house itself stood in a park, and was protected—we should say grown up—with large old timber. Near it you found the walled garden, and then entered a close wood fringing one of the small lakes with which the whole country is pitted. Then came the wall of the demesne, and you climbed a steep knoll—a knob of rock lightly covered with soil—and on the top of this stood the church, fenced in with tall dark trees. It was a curious building to English eyes. The nave and aisles were low, and filled with pews and galleries. In the western gallery stood the handsome old organ, gaily painted, and with silver pipes. The ceiling was flat, and had been adorned by a seventeenth-century artist with a strange and hideous "Last Judgment," full of lurid flames, falling cities, burning ships, crying souls, and brown and smiling demons. Handsome brass coronæ hung from the roof; the pulpit was like a doll's-house, covered with little painted wooden cherubs and saints; a stand with three hour-glasses was hinged to the preacher's desk. Such sights as these may be seen in many a church in Sweden now, but what distinguished this one was an addition to the original building. At the eastern end of the north aisle the builder of the manor-house had erected a mausoleum for himself and his family. It was a largish eight-sided building, lighted by a series of oval windows, and it had a domed roof, topped by a kind of pumpkin-shaped object rising into a spire, a form in which Swedish architects greatly delighted. The roof was of copper externally, and was painted black, while the walls, in common with those of the church, were staringly white. To this mausoleum there was no access from the church. It had a portal and steps of its own on the northern side. Past the churchyard the path to the village goes, and not more than three or four minutes bring you to the inn door. On the first day of his stay at Råbäck Mr. Wraxall found the church door open, and made those notes of the interior which I have epitomized. Into the mausoleum, however, he could not make his way. He could by looking through the keyhole just descry that there were fine marble effigies and sarcophagi of copper, and a wealth of armorial ornament, which made him very anxious to spend some time in investigation. The papers he had come to examine at the manor-house proved to be of just the kind he wanted for his book. There were family correspondence, journals, and account-books of the earliest owners of the estate, very carefully kept and clearly written, full of amusing and picturesque detail. The first De la Gardie appeared in them as a strong and capable man. Shortly after the building of the mansion there had been a period of distress in the district, and the peasants had risen and attacked several châteaux and done some damage. The owner of Råbäck took a leading part in suppressing the trouble, and there was reference to executions of ringleaders and severe punishments inflicted with no sparing hand. The portrait of this Magnus de la Gardie was one of the best in the house, and Mr. Wraxall studied it with no little interest after his day's work. He gives no detailed description of it, but I gather that the face impressed him rather by its power than by its beauty or goodness; in fact, he writes that Count Magnus was an almost phenomenally ugly man. On this day Mr. Wraxall took his supper with the family, and walked back in the late but still bright evening. "I must remember," he writes, "to ask the sexton if he can let me into the mausoleum at the church. He evidently has access to it himself, for I saw him to-night standing on the steps, and, as I thought, locking or unlocking the door." I find that early on the following day Mr. Wraxall had some conversation with his landlord. His setting it down at such length as he does surprised me at first; but I soon realized that the papers I was reading were, at least in their beginning, the materials for the book he was meditating, and that it was to have been one of those quasi-journalistic productions which admit of the introduction of an admixture of conversational matter. His object, he says, was to find out whether any traditions of Count Magnus de la Gardie lingered on in the scenes of that gentleman's activity, and whether the popular estimate of him were favourable or not. He found that the Count was decidedly not a favourite. If his tenants came late to their work on the days which they owed to him as Lord of the Manor, they were set on the wooden horse, or flogged and branded in the manor-house yard. One or two cases there were of men who had occupied lands which encroached on the lord's domain, and whose houses had been mysteriously burnt on a winter's night, with the whole family inside. But what seemed to dwell on the innkeeper's mind most—for he returned to the subject more than once—was that the Count had been on the Black Pilgrimage, and had brought something or someone back with him.
You will naturally inquire, as Mr. Wraxall did, what the Black Pilgrimage may have been. But your curiosity on the point must remain unsatisfied for the time being, just as his did. The landlord was evidently unwilling to give a full answer, or indeed any answer, on the point, and, being called out for a moment, trotted off with obvious alacrity, only putting his head in at the door a few minutes afterwards to say that he was called away to Skara, and should not be back till evening. So Mr. Wraxall had to go unsatisfied to his day's work at the manor-house. The papers on which he was just then engaged soon put his thoughts into another channel, for he had to occupy himself with glancing over the correspondence between Sophia Albertina in Stockholm and her married cousin Ulrica Leonora at Råbäck in the years 1705-1710. The letters were of exceptional interest from the light they threw upon the culture of that period in Sweden, as anyone can testify who has read the full edition of them in the publications of the Swedish Historical Manuscripts Commission. In the afternoon he had done with these, and after returning the boxes in which they were kept to their places on the shelf, he proceeded, very naturally, to take down some of the volumes nearest to them, in order to determine which of them had best be his principal subject of investigation next day. The shelf he had hit upon was occupied mostly by a collection of account-books in the writing of the first Count Magnus. But one among them was not an account-book, but a book of alchemical and other tracts in another sixteenth-century hand. Not being very familiar with alchemical literature, Mr. Wraxall spends much space which he might have spared in setting out the names and beginnings of the various treatises: The book of the Phœnix, book of the Thirty Words, book of the Toad, book of Miriam, Turba philosophorum, and so forth; and then he announces with a good deal of circumstance his delight at finding, on a leaf originally left blank near the middle of the book, some writing of Count Magnus himself headed "Liber nigræ peregrinationis." It is true that only a few lines were written, but there was quite enough to show that the landlord had that morning been referring to a belief at least as old as the time of Count Magnus, and probably shared by him. This is the English of what was written: "If any man desires to obtain a long life, if he would obtain a faithful messenger and see the blood of his enemies, it is necessary that he should first go into the city of Chorazin, and there salute the prince...." Here there was an erasure of one word, not very thoroughly done, so that Mr. Wraxall felt pretty sure that he was right in reading it as aëris ("of the air"). But there was no more of the text copied, only a line in Latin: "Quære reliqua hujus materiei inter secretiora" (See the rest of this matter among the more private things). It could not be denied that this threw a rather lurid light upon the tastes and beliefs of the Count; but to Mr. Wraxall, separated from him by nearly three centuries, the thought that he might have added to his general forcefulness alchemy, and to alchemy something like magic, only made him a more picturesque figure; and when, after a rather prolonged contemplation of his picture in the hall, Mr. Wraxall set out on his homeward way, his mind was full of the thought of Count Magnus. He had no eyes for his surroundings, no perception of the evening scents of the woods or the evening light on the lake; and when all of a sudden he pulled up short, he was astonished to find himself already at the gate of the churchyard, and within a few minutes of his dinner. His eyes fell on the mausoleum. "Ah," he said, "Count Magnus, there you are. I should dearly like to see you." "Like many solitary men," he writes, "I have a habit of talking to myself aloud; and, unlike some of the Greek and Latin particles, I do not expect an answer. Certainly, and perhaps fortunately in this case, there was neither voice nor any that regarded: only the woman who, I suppose, was cleaning up the church, dropped some metallic object on the floor, whose clang startled me. Count Magnus, I think, sleeps sound enough." That same evening the landlord of the inn, who had heard Mr. Wraxall say that he wished to see the clerk or deacon (as he would be called in Sweden) of the parish, introduced him to that official in the inn parlour. A visit to the De la Gardie tomb-house was soon arranged for the next day, and a little general conversation ensued. Mr. Wraxall, remembering that one function of Scandinavian deacons is to teach candidates for Confirmation, thought he would refresh his own memory on a Biblical point. "Can you tell me," he said, "anything about Chorazin?" The deacon seemed startled, but readily reminded him how that village had once been denounced. "To be sure," said Mr. Wraxall; "it is, I suppose, quite a ruin now?" "So I expect," replied the deacon. "I have heard some of our old priests say that Antichrist is to be born there; and there are tales——" "Ah! what tales are those?" Mr. Wraxall put in. "Tales, I was going to say, which I have forgotten," said the deacon; and soon after that he said good night. The landlord was now alone, and at Mr. Wraxall's mercy; and that inquirer was not inclined to spare him. "Herr Nielsen," he said, "I have found out something about the Black Pilgrimage. You may as well tell me what you know. What did the Count bring back with him?" Swedes are habitually slow, perhaps, in answering, or perhaps the landlord was an exception. I am not sure; but Mr. Wraxall notes that the landlord spent at least one minute in looking at him before he said anything at all. Then he came close up to his guest, and with a good deal of effort he spoke: "Mr. Wraxall, I can tell you this one little tale, and no more—not any more. You must not ask anything when I have done. In my grandfather's time—that is, ninety-two years ago—there were two men who said: 'The Count is dead; we do not care for him. We will go to-night and have a free hunt in his wood'—the long wood on the hill that you have seen behind Råbäck. Well, those that heard them say this, they said: 'No, do not go; we are sure you will meet with persons walking who should not be walking. They should be resting, not walking.' These men laughed. There were no forest-men to keep the wood, because no one wished to hunt there. The family were not here at the house. These men could do what they wished. "Very well, they go to the wood that night. My grandfather was sitting here in this room. It was the summer, and a light night. With the window open, he could see out to the wood, and hear. "So he sat there, and two or three men with him, and they listened. At first they hear nothing at all; then they hear someone—you know how far away it is—they hear someone scream, just as if the most inside part of his soul was twisted out of him. All of them in the room caught hold of each other, and they sat so for three-quarters of an hour. Then they hear someone else, only about three hundred ells off. They hear him laugh out loud: it was not one of those two men that laughed, and, indeed, they have all of them said that it was not any man at all. After that they hear a great door shut. "Then, when it was just light with the sun, they all went to the priest. They said to him: "'Father, put on your gown and your ruff, and come to bury these men, Anders Bjornsen and Hans Thorbjorn.' "You understand that they were sure these men were dead. So they went to the wood—my grandfather never forgot this. He said they were all like so many dead men themselves. The priest, too, he was in a white fear. He said when they came to him: "'I heard one cry in the night, and I heard one laugh afterwards. If I cannot forget that, I shall not be able to sleep again.' "So they went to the wood, and they found these men on the edge of the wood. Hans Thorbjorn was standing with his back against a tree, and all the time he was pushing with his hands—pushing something away from him which was not there. So he was not dead. And they led him away, and took him to the house at Nykjoping, and he died before the winter; but he went on pushing with his hands. Also Anders Bjornsen was there; but he was dead. And I tell you this about Anders Bjornsen, that he was once a beautiful man, but now his face was not there, because the flesh of it was sucked away off the bones. You understand that? My grandfather did not forget that. And they laid him on the bier which they brought, and they put a cloth over his head, and the priest walked before; and they began to sing the psalm for the dead as well as they could. So, as they were singing the end of the first verse, one fell down, who was carrying the head of the bier, and the others looked back, and they saw that the cloth had fallen off, and the eyes of Anders Bjornsen were looking up, because there was nothing to close over them. And this they could not bear. Therefore the priest laid the cloth upon him, and sent for a spade, and they buried him in that place." The next day Mr. Wraxall records that the deacon called for him soon after his breakfast, and took him to the church and mausoleum. He noticed that the key of the latter was hung on a nail just by the pulpit, and it occurred to him that, as the church door seemed to be left unlocked as a rule, it would not be difficult for him to pay a second and more private visit to the monuments if there proved to be more of interest among them than could be digested at first. The building, when he entered it, he found not unimposing. The monuments, mostly large erections of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, were dignified if luxuriant, and the epitaphs and heraldry were copious. The central space of the domed room was occupied by three copper sarcophagi, covered with finely-engraved ornament. Two of them had, as is commonly the case in Denmark and Sweden, a large metal crucifix on the lid. The third, that of Count Magnus, as it appeared, had, instead of that, a full-length effigy engraved upon it, and round the edge were several bands of similar ornament representing various scenes. One was a battle, with cannon belching out smoke, and walled towns, and troops of pikemen. Another showed an execution. In a third, among trees, was a man running at full speed, with flying hair and outstretched hands. After him followed a strange form; it would be hard to say whether the artist had intended it for a man, and was unable to give the requisite similitude, or whether it was intentionally made as monstrous as it looked. In view of the skill with which the rest of the drawing was done, Mr. Wraxall felt inclined to adopt the latter idea. The figure was unduly short, and was for the most part muffled in a hooded garment which swept the ground. The only part of the form which projected from that shelter was not shaped like any hand or arm. Mr. Wraxall compares it to the tentacle of a devil-fish, and continues: "On seeing this, I said to myself, 'This, then, which is evidently an allegorical representation of some kind—a fiend pursuing a hunted soul—may be the origin of the story of Count Magnus and his mysterious companion. Let us see how the huntsman is pictured: doubtless it will be a demon blowing his horn.'" But, as it turned out, there was no such sensational figure, only the semblance of a cloaked man on a hillock, who stood leaning on a stick, and watching the hunt with an interest which the engraver had tried to express in his attitude. Mr. Wraxall noted the finely-worked and massive steel padlocks—three in number—which secured the sarcophagus. One of them, he saw, was detached, and lay on the pavement. And then, unwilling to delay the deacon longer or to waste his own working-time, he made his way onward to the manor-house. It is curious," he notes, "how on retracing a familiar path one's thoughts engross one to the absolute exclusion of surrounding objects. To-night, for the second time, I had entirely failed to notice where I was going (I had planned a private visit to the tomb-house to copy the epitaphs), when I suddenly, as it were, awoke to consciousness, and found myself (as before) turning in at the churchyard gate, and, I believe, singing or chanting some such words as, 'Are you awake, Count Magnus? Are you asleep, Count Magnus?' and then something more which I have failed to recollect. It seemed to me that I must have been behaving in this nonsensical way for some time." He found the key of the mausoleum where he had expected to find it, and copied the greater part of what he wanted; in fact, he stayed until the light began to fail him. "I must have been wrong," he writes, "in saying that one of the padlocks of my Count's sarcophagus was unfastened; I see to-night that two are loose. I picked both up, and laid them carefully on the window-ledge, after trying unsuccessfully to close them. The remaining one is still firm, and, though I take it to be a spring lock, I cannot guess how it is opened. Had I succeeded in undoing it, I am almost afraid I should have taken the liberty of opening the sarcophagus. It is strange, the interest I feel in the personality of this, I fear, somewhat ferocious and grim old noble." The day following was, as it turned out, the last of Mr. Wraxall's stay at Råbäck. He received letters connected with certain investments which made it desirable that he should return to England; his work among the papers was practically done, and travelling was slow. He decided, therefore, to make his farewells, put some finishing touches to his notes, and be off. These finishing touches and farewells, as it turned out, took more time than he had expected. The hospitable family insisted on his staying to dine with them—they dined at three—and it was verging on half-past six before he was outside the iron gates of Råbäck. He dwelt on every step of his walk by the lake, determined to saturate himself, now that he trod it for the last time, in the sentiment of the place and hour. And when he reached the summit of the churchyard knoll, he lingered for many minutes, gazing at the limitless prospect of woods near and distant, all dark beneath a sky of liquid green. When at last he turned to go, the thought struck him that surely he must bid farewell to Count Magnus as well as the rest of the De la Gardies. The church was but twenty yards away, and he knew where the key of the mausoleum hung. It was not long before he was standing over the great copper coffin, and, as usual, talking to himself aloud. "You may have been a bit of a rascal in your time, Magnus," he was saying, "but for all that I should like to see you, or, rather——" "Just at that instant," he says, "I felt a blow on my foot. Hastily enough I drew it back, and something fell on the pavement with a clash. It was the third, the last of the three padlocks which had fastened the sarcophagus. I stooped to pick it up, and—Heaven is my witness that I am writing only the bare truth—before I had raised myself there was a sound of metal hinges creaking, and I distinctly saw the lid shifting upwards. I may have behaved like a coward, but I could not for my life stay for one moment. I was outside that dreadful building in less time than I can write—almost as quickly as I could have said—the words; and what frightens me yet more, I could not turn the key in the lock. As I sit here in my room noting these facts, I ask myself (it was not twenty minutes ago) whether that noise of creaking metal continued, and I cannot tell whether it did or not. I only know that there was something more than I have written that alarmed me, but whether it was sound or sight I am not able to remember. What is this that I have done?" Poor Mr. Wraxall! He set out on his journey to England on the next day, as he had planned, and he reached England in safety; and yet, as I gather from his changed hand and inconsequent jottings, a broken man. One of several small notebooks that have come to me with his papers gives, not a key to, but a kind of inkling of, his experiences. Much of his journey was made by canal-boat, and I find not less than six painful attempts to enumerate and describe his fellow-passengers. The entries are of this kind: "24. Pastor of village in Skåne. Usual black coat and soft black hat. "25. Commercial traveller from Stockholm going to Trollhättan. Black cloak, brown hat. "26. Man in long black cloak, broad-leafed hat, very old-fashioned." This entry is lined out, and a note added: "Perhaps identical with No. 13. Have not yet seen his face." On referring to No. 13, I find that he is a Roman priest in a cassock. The net result of the reckoning is always the same. Twenty-eight people appear in the enumeration, one being always a man in a long black cloak and broad hat, and the other a "short figure in dark cloak and hood." On the other hand, it is always noted that only twenty-six passengers appear at meals, and that the man in the cloak is perhaps absent, and the short figure is certainly absent. On reaching England, it appears that Mr. Wraxall landed at Harwich, and that he resolved at once to put himself out of the reach of some person or persons whom he never specifies, but whom he had evidently come to regard as his pursuers. Accordingly he took a vehicle—it was a closed fly—not trusting the railway, and drove across country to the village of Belchamp St. Paul. It was about nine o'clock on a moonlight August night when he neared the place. He was sitting forward, and looking out of the window at the fields and thickets—there was little else to be seen—racing past him. Suddenly he came to a cross-road. At the corner two figures were standing motionless; both were in dark cloaks; the taller one wore a hat, the shorter a hood. He had no time to see their faces, nor did they make any motion that he could discern. Yet the horse shied violently and broke into a gallop, and Mr. Wraxall sank back into his seat in something like desperation. He had seen them before. Arrived at Belchamp St. Paul, he was fortunate enough to find a decent furnished lodging, and for the next twenty-four hours he lived, comparatively speaking, in peace. His last notes were written on this day. They are too disjointed and ejaculatory to be given here in full, but the substance of them is clear enough. He is expecting a visit from his pursuers—how or when he knows not—and his constant cry is "What has he done?" and "Is there no hope?" Doctors, he knows, would call him mad, policemen would laugh at him. The parson is away. What can he do but lock his door and cry to God? People still remembered last year at Belchamp St. Paul how a strange gentleman came one evening in August years back; and how the next morning but one he was found dead, and there was an inquest; and the jury that viewed the body fainted, seven of 'em did, and none of 'em wouldn't speak to what they see, and the verdict was visitation of God; and how the people as kep' the 'ouse moved out that same week, and went away from that part. But they do not, I think, know that any glimmer of light has ever been thrown, or could be thrown, on the mystery. It so happened that last year the little house came into my hands as part of a legacy. It had stood empty since 1863, and there seemed no prospect of letting it; so I had it pulled down, and the papers of which I have given you an abstract were found in a forgotten cupboard under the window in the best bedroom.

1. How do porcelain veneers work/ how dental veneers work & how are porcelain veneers applied?

Textbook Answer: A porcelain veneer is a wafer-thin layer of porcelain bonded to the front surface of a tooth to enhance its appearance, color, and shape.
Porcelain veneers are applied in a multi-step process. First, a thin layer of enamel is removed from the tooth's surface, then the custom-made veneer is bonded to the front of the tooth using dental cement.
BeautyBeyondVeneers Team:
Contrary to popular belief, porcelain veneers aren't merely bonded to the front surface of a tooth like a sticker.
In reality, the porcelain wraps under and behind the tooth, altering its structure significantly.
As evident, porcelain veneers cover both the front and back surfaces of the teeth, rather than merely covering the front as commonly advertised.
The degree to which the porcelain extends behind the tooth's surface is a matter of debate, but it's believed to be at least 20%, with the possibility of being more depending on the type of porcelain used.
This can affect speech, chewing function, and create a sense of foreignness in the mouth as the bottom of the veneers interact with the lower teeth during these activities.
Additionally, the term "wafer-thin" is misleading as the degree of enamel removal varies, often resulting in substantial tooth alteration.
Composite veneers, however, do not exhibit this phenomenon. To learn more about this check out our article, ~"Mastering the Art of Aesthetics: Composite vs Porcelain Veneers: The Case for Composite Veneers"~
How is enamel removed from porcelain veneers?
Dentists typically use a dental drill or a rotary instrument equipped with a diamond burr to remove enamel when preparing teeth for porcelain veneers. Ouch!
Thus, the conventional depiction of porcelain veneers oversimplifies the process and fails to highlight the irreversible damage they can cause to natural teeth.
What about no prep veneers?
The idea of "no-prep" veneers is unrealistic as they typically appear bulky & long affecting speech and chewing function. While some attempt it, the outcomes are often unsatisfactory, and upon removal, the bonded cement can still harm the natural tooth.
Restoring your teeth completely back to their original state, 100% before the "no prep" procedure is hardly reversible, to say the least.
For those intrigued by the scientific aspect, hydrofluoric acid is frequently utilized in bonding porcelain veneers to teeth, assisting in the process of etching the tooth surface to improve adhesion.
Hydrofluoric acid is corrosive and can present dangers if it comes into contact with the skin, nasal passages, throat, or eyes. You do the math, Is this reversible?
So do porcelain veneers require shaving teeth? In nearly all cases, the answer is yes!

2. How Much Does Porcelain Veneers Cost?

https://preview.redd.it/gip55fxum30d1.png?width=559&format=png&auto=webp&s=a54f32a2bf6abf012ede400f35f0f58563c6bca1
Textbook Answer: The cost of porcelain veneers can vary depending on factors such as location, the dentist's expertise, and the number of teeth being treated. How much porcelain veneers cost per tooth can be anywhere from $800 to $2,500 USA dollars.
BeautyBeyondVeneers Team:
Probably the most frequently asked question is how much dental veneers cost, which are often used interchangeably with porcelain veneers. Dental veneers typically range from $1000 to $3000 per tooth in the United States.
However, contrary to expectations, there is no money-back guarantee. In addition, unlike composite veneers, which can be easily and inexpensively repaired if chipped, porcelain veneers cannot be fixed, posing a risk to the patient.
Paying a higher price, like $3000 per tooth, doesn't necessarily guarantee superior quality compared to a lower cost, such as $1000. To truly assess the quality of the veneers, it's essential to meet with the ceramist responsible for crafting them at the porcelain veneers lab.
However, cosmetic dentists typically refrain from introducing patients to ceramists, as it goes against industry protocol and remains a hidden secret in the field. This arrangement leaves patients unable to communicate directly with the individuals fabricating the veneers, which is another undisclosed flaw.
Essentially, the dentist acts as a middleman, performing the service but not manufacturing the product, creating a perplexing situation for patients who may not be aware of this arrangement.
This significant issue often leads to unsatisfactory veneer results because patients place full trust in the cosmetic dentist, who ultimately has limited control over the porcelain veneer quality.
As previously stated, this procedure might jeopardize the structural integrity of the underlying teeth, leaving you with limited options if you are unhappy with them.
Should I get porcelain veneers? Are porcelain veneers worth it?
So are porcelain veneers expensive?
Returning to the topic of expenses, a complete smile in the USA makeover encompassing 10 teeth on both upper and lower teeth could tally up to $60k with no money-back guarantee.
How much are porcelain veneers in Mexico?
Porcelain veneers' prices in Mexico and elsewhere may fluctuate, often being more budget-friendly, typically around $450 to $600 per tooth. Thorough research is crucial, as certain dentists outside the USA are recognized for delivering top-notch results, contrary to what some US dentists may suggest.
How much are porcelain veneers in Colombia?
Porcelain veneers in Colombia typically range from $500 to $700 per tooth, although prices can fluctuate. Despite being cheaper than in the USA, potential follow-up concerns may arise, especially if travel to Colombia is required. Mexico and Colombia are among the top destinations for US travelers seeking dental care, alongside Dubai.

3. Do porcelain veneers last forever, how long do they last, and are porcelain veneers permanent?

https://preview.redd.it/6phvlbwym30d1.png?width=540&format=png&auto=webp&s=54bc558e55a211e84d95c2c033d69a46601ce0c7
Textbook Answer: Porcelain veneers are not permanent and do not last forever. On average, they can last between 10 to 15 years, but this can vary depending on factors like oral hygiene, habits, and the quality of the veneers.
While they offer a long-lasting solution for smile enhancement, they may eventually require replacement due to wear or damage over time.
BeautyBeyondVeneers Team:
Porcelain veneers can indeed last for a considerable period, ~lasting anywhere from their initial application to as long as 20 years, contingent upon factors like oral hygiene and lifestyle choices.~
While they are not permanent fixtures like natural teeth, they are considered permanent in the sense that they require replacement once they chip, crack, or reach the end of their lifespan.
It's essential to note that the process of applying porcelain veneers involves removing a thin layer of enamel from the teeth, which is irreversible and permanently alters the tooth structure.
Although there are rare occurrences of transitioning from porcelain to composite veneers, such procedures are not commonplace, and locating a dentist in the USA willing to perform them is exceedingly difficult.
Our BeautyBeyondVeneers team has connections with specialists who may undertake such cases, a topic we will delve into in future posts.

Quickfire Round: BeautyBeyondVeneers Gives Straight Answers!

4. Do Porcelain Veneers Break Easily?

Porcelain veneers are susceptible to breakage, especially under significant force or impact, but their durability varies based on material quality and oral habits.
It's crucial to consider individual needs when assessing the suitability of veneers, as factors like teeth grinding, sports participation without mouthguards, or previous dental trauma increase the risk of breakage.
Additionally, individuals with misaligned bites or those who exert excessive force during biting or chewing are more prone to experiencing porcelain veneer damage.

5. Do Porcelain Veneers Stain?

Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining because pure porcelain is non-porous, preventing substances from penetrating its surface. So the answer is NO!
However, many individuals find the glossy appearance of porcelain veneers to be overly artificial or glass-like, giving them that Hollywood fake aesthetic look.

6. Can Porcelain Veneers be Whitened?

https://preview.redd.it/uziortq1n30d1.png?width=562&format=png&auto=webp&s=1a6c1860d7d7d5570f1f91b80949c916e1f3f3c6
Porcelain veneers can NOT be whitened due to their non-porous nature, which prevents substances from penetrating their surface.
While some individuals may attempt to whiten the natural teeth behind the veneers, the efficacy of this method is uncertain, as the results vary and are still debated within the dental community.
Don't waste your money on porcelain veneer whitening toothpaste; it's a scam.

7. Do Porcelain Protect Your Teeth?

Oh, sure, porcelain veneers protect your teeth! But first, let's destroy your enamel to get them to stick. So, technically, they're not protecting your teeth; they're just taking over after wreaking havoc.
Disclaimer: If your teeth are irreparably damaged by decay or erosion, porcelain veneers might offer some protection for the remaining tooth structure. However, in such cases, a dental cap or crown may be a more suitable option.

8. Can Porcelain veneers be replaced?

Porcelain veneers can indeed be replaced, but each replacement requires the installation of new porcelain and the removal of additional tooth structure to ensure proper bonding.
This process is often overlooked by dentists and patients alike, leading to potential complications over time.
With repeated replacements, the underlying tooth structure may become compromised, ultimately necessitating more invasive procedures such as dentures or implants.

9. Do Porcelain Veneers hurt?

Yes!, but consulting a cosmetic dentist may not provide the most unbiased opinion. Dentists themselves would hardly opt for a full set of veneers, with less than 0.1% undergoing such a procedure.
Just picture enduring hours of teeth grinding with a rotary tool – it's more like experiencing a harrowing ordeal than enjoying a leisurely stroll in the park.

10. Are Porcelain Veneers covered by insurance?

Insurance coverage for porcelain veneers is infrequent when it comes to cosmetic purposes, as they're typically viewed as elective treatments by most insurance providers.
In rare instances where a porcelain veneer is deemed necessary for a non-cosmetic procedure, only a portion of the cost may be covered, leaving the patient responsible for the remainder.
It's essential to clarify coverage details with your insurance provider beforehand, but don't hold your breath for full coverage—it's a rarity.

BONUS*

How Long Does it Take to Get Porcelain Veneers?

Getting porcelain veneers involves various phases, starting with initial consultations, mold-taking, and permanent enamel removal, followed by sending the veneers to a lab and fitting them upon their return.
This process typically lasts 1-3 weeks but may extend to months if adjustments are needed and veneers are sent back and forth to the lab. It's worth noting that dentists don't fabricate the porcelain veneers themselves.
Upon receiving the final porcelain veneers from the lab, patients frequently experience excitement fueled by marketing and the widespread portrayal of porcelain veneers' success stories on TV, as well as before-and-after photos taken at flattering angles.
However, the reality is that many patients experience challenges with chewing and speaking after the procedure, especially once they return home.
Dentists often respond with "You'll get used to it," but they typically don't provide support for speech therapy or assistance in adjusting to this significant change.
Patients typically have only about 15-30 minutes in the office to trial the new porcelain veneers before the permanent cementing process begins. Unfortunately, there's no opportunity for trial adjustments at home for the new permanent porcelain laminates.
It's important to note that the temporary veneers provided for trial after the enamel is ground off during the second visit are significantly different from the final porcelain veneers received when they come back from the lab.
This may contradict what you've been told, but it's the reality. Temporary veneers are often shorter, less bulky, and closer in shape and size to your natural teeth compared to the final porcelain veneers.
This revelation may catch some off guard. Although the final laminates offer a superior aesthetic, discrepancies in size, shape, and thickness frequently emerge, resulting in challenges that dentists may overlook because they are not involved in the manufacturing process in-office.
Therefore, it's essential to carefully consider whether the aesthetic benefits outweigh the time investment before opting for porcelain veneers.

2024.05.13 01:11 dixiegal_gonewild WIBTA if I told my husband that I'm upset that I have to "share" a mother's day gift with his mom?

His mother lives with us. Every year for mother's day, he takes the whole family(me, his mom, our kid(6yrs) and himself) out to eat. Sometimes mother's day falls at the same time as a local art festival, so we all go to that together as well and overall, it's generally a good time. I just hate having to share the "gift" of the meal with her. It wouldn't be so bad if he would do something else in addition to it. Help our kid make me a card, buy a coffee at the festival or something simple like that. I really don't care what he does, I just want...idk effort? Put into something special just for me? Hell, I wouldn't care if he bought both me AND his mom the same exact type of candy, as long as we both got our own box. I don't think I'm tah or would be for telling him so, he's told me before that he can't fix things if I don't tell him, but it wouldn't be the first time he has reacted negatively to me saying something had me feeling some type of way. I think it's normal to want to have something special on a day that is meant to be special, not have to share it with someone else. But I guess I could be in the wrong, since he's definitely not the gift giving type and at least it's something? Idk if any of this made sense, I'm sun-drained and tired. Well, reddit, AITA for wanting a separate gift from my husband's mother and WIBTA if I told him so?
Quick edit to say that this happens EVERY year. And this was the first time he made any of the plans on his own, usually I'm the one picking the restaurant and making reservations, figuring out the festival times, etc.
Edit2: guys, I get the confusion. I only have one child, who is six. Not six kids lol
Edit3: a lot of you are asking what I do for him for Father's Day. I usually fix him his favorite meals/whatever he's asking for that day and help our son make a card or something. Last year, it was a Popsicle stick picture frame.

2024.05.12 20:29 Traditional-Night-48 My family home in uk is old and many accounts of supernatural experiences.

My family home is called the jolly anglers, we moved in when I was 1 year old in 1978 And parts of it goes back to medieval times as a wayside hovel, still has the original inglenook fireplaces. Was a public house/guest house for many years before we moved in, I will add a picture of it my mother has from Victorian times when I go round tomorrow, The earliest record of it that I've managed to find is in the 1841 census when William Rivett is the innkeeper. It was acquired by Steward & Patteson from Ferrier & Co. in 1884 and was still an S&P brewery pub when it served its final pint in 1952.
At some point between 1901 and 1911 the Angel changed its name to the Jolly Anglers possibly coinciding with a change in landlord. We think the poet Jessie Pope who moved to Fritton village after her marriage in 1929. Maybe referenced it in her collection of verses entitled Three Jolly Anglers, published in 1913. In the 1900’s they also added on a tearoom.
Over the years my mum could of and should of written a book about the paranormal happenings at the house that many of us experienced and have had three different paranormal investigating teams visit the house. I will take and upload pictures of historical features when I’m over there tomorrow. Dad built a indoor pool in 1988 and found many seashells deep down when it used to be linked by sea. And had a small jetty and boats used to moor up to visit it. (It’s now in the middle of the countryside) and over the years water has receded over a mile away in distance but many years ago the sea linked into The lake nearby and in pre-medieval times was largely dug then to extract peat for burning. The village where the house resides seems to have been known to our Roman heritage for ‘in a small hillock’ lying about half a mile north of the lake near to our house.
People always want to hear the paranormal side of my parents house which was part medieval wayside hovel then inn and a pub after that in Norfolk uk. so I’ve written some of the strange things that have Happened in my parents house ‘the jolly anglers’
Where do I start.. we moved into the house in 1978 and in the first six months mum was in tears and Wanted to leave again as she was scared to death of all the strange happenings, Dad was working away offshore at the time and they’d used all their money to buy the old house so knew they couldn’t just up and leave, dad wasn’t one for giving in but he also wasn’t the one living it daily. Half the time it was just mum, me as a 9month old and my older siblings 15 and 17. now they say teenage energy can cause spirits to be active in houses and it attracts them so Maybe that could’ve been why they all saw a lot when I was a baby in the house.
One night mum was in bed and I was in the cot in the same room when she woke up and heard rustling coming from the staircase which is open and goes straight into their bedroom , she then in the dim light saw a black shadow floating up the stairs and move very slowly to my cot, she was in shock and couldn’t move for a while and watched it float across the room and as the figure leaned in to my cot, mum was petrified and put the side light on in panic and the shadow just disappeared, she said the noise sounded like crinoline dresses how the material rustled as someone walked along, maybe in the Victorian era.
Another time My parents also whilst in bed heard an old honky-tonk type piano play downstairs, cigar smoke and voices several times in the first six months of living there- note they had no piano nor smoked. Dad always went down to investigate with his double barrel shot gun but everything went silent whenever he opened the door at the bottom of the stairs.
They lived with daily bangs, strange voices, knocking and footsteps all through their lives and also others myself and my siblings have heard these also on a regular basis, my brother and a friend of his whilst in the lounge one evening saw the start of what looked like a red woman’s dress coming down one set of stairs in the old area which was originally the pub.
The pub area is my parents best lounge and was once two rooms but dad knocked Them both into one big one, when it was a pub one was a smoking room and the other was the bar room which still has a bar in it but not the original one. My father purchased it from a old retired landlord of a demolished pub in Great Yarmouth. this room has a staircase each end one staircase goes into my parents bedroom, the other staircase the opposite end goes up into a small hall and off that are two bedrooms, one was my brothers And the other was my sisters, But I slept in there with her frequently. My parents built a small bedroom downstairs which was a section of the larger bathroom which decades before was called the parlour room not the bathroom, we do know from history records that one of the landlords children many years ago died in the house of tuberculosis a young girl about eight years old. My auntie used to sleep in my old small bedroom when she visited us and one evening Was petrified when she saw what looked like flickering candles moving under the doorframe, on another occasion she heard breathing which sounded raspy and a female crying. She ended up sleeping in my brothers room and refused to stay In my little bedroom after the two events.
Tins In kitchen have flown out of cupboards and dented the radiator, pictures have flown off walls and ornaments also have somehow landed other ends of rooms not just dropped downwards, small dancing white lights Have been witnessed by several people in Different areas of the house also seen by Paranormal research team. All teams have picked up Things and seen things and even been poked by a entity. Psychic mediums have come to the house and said there are many spirits including a woman who had several children and drowned herself, one Young man With a club foot who lived at the pub, and In those days would of been called a imbecile who owned a black dog Which haunts the house too, my mum later investigated documents to this claim and she saw on the 1899 census that in fact a man classed as a ‘imbecile’ was residing at the residence.
Now before the psychic talked about the woman, when I was a little girl about three, my parents tell me I had an invisible friend, apparently she was a lady in a red dress so I said, she used to push me on the swing outside and I used to talk to her and she’d play with me and my toys a lot, I said she was a nice lady that liked children. Years later a neighbour from the village was at one of our parties and was talking about the history of her family, they had lived in our village for many many years and she had been doing some family research and had recently found out that her great great grandmother had been pulled out of the lake which is near our house. she Apparently had drowned herself because twins were prevalent in her family, she had had two sets and was pregnant again, her husband had recently died And she couldn’t take it anymore, she was very poor and when they took the body from the river they didn’t have funeral homes in those days in villages, so they always laid the bodies out in a cold place.. which was normally the local pub cellar, where in fact she was laid out to be buried in our pub cellar and they held the post-mortem there too which she had documents of. which funny enough was my playroom as a child And freezer storage area. Now no one knows if she died wearing a red dress but it was sense that she loved children by the psychic so everyone thinks that that is the lady in a red dress that was my invisible friend as a child. There was an incident once where a family friends child was over with his mum and as 3 year olds do they open doors and investigate, unfortunately he opened the cellar door and fell to the bottom, now they are big concrete steps to the bottom of the cellar, My father saw him enter the seller But didn’t see him fall but when He rushed to him he was standing at the bottom of the steps not even crying, they all checked him over and said ‘are you okay? and he said ‘the lady got me’ and Pointed to an area in the cellar, Apparently gave everyone there goosebumps. Another occasion at a party there was a nonbeliever there who was joking about ghosts and what people had seen and said to a group of people ‘it’s a load of old nonsense’ the moment he said that the old heavy wooden front door creaked open and no one was there behind it, apparently he went very pale and flustered, many people witnessed that.
Also people have seen figures in the corner of their eye or movement for years and we all got used to the footsteps, taps and bumps as it is an old house and has had a lot of people walk through it, it ended up just a thing you got used to and mum didn’t leave after six months dad convinced her to stick it out and things did calm down but never completely stopped. When my grandmother died my father saw her sitting on the end of the bed looking at her daughter, When I was very ill as a child in bed I saw a man in a black suit which I thought was the doctor and I started talking to him asking where my mum was and he disappeared. One if my nieces has seen a lady sitting in a old velvet chair in one of the bedrooms, My other grandmother when she stayed over once heard what sounded like rings being dropped into the sink, as all bedrooms have a sink in, as it used to be a guest house. As a teenager I moved from my sisters old room into my brothers old room at the back of the house and one night I woke to see a very tall man in a black cape, we have no street lights in the village and I never shut my curtains as we are not overlooked, so the moonlight was coming through my window and he must’ve been 6 foot five tall as his head nearly reached the ceiling, and I could see in the light he had fair hair which was slicked back and parted at the side, but he didn’t move it was like a picture in a picture book I couldn’t help but be quite mesmerised for a few second on how clear it was, but I lost that feeling and suddenly jumped up and ran out of that room, Didn’t even bother putting a light on I woke my parents up and I burst into tears, that really shook me up. After that event i even changed the layout of my room so I wouldn’t wake up in that position again. Another time I woke and I heard loud footsteps going round the bed but strangely the footsteps were like heavy boots and they were at my Ear level not on the ground, to this day I still find that very strange and they sounded amplified too. Another time a man with scraggly long hair poked his head out from one of the sloped ceilings in my room also. Each time I’d shoot out of the room and sleep in the other bedroom for a few days Before I felt safe to go back in and sleep.
Me My Husband And our 2 year old daughter left at four in the morning once after a family wedding because my daughter was crying, my husband picked her up out of the cotbed and she pointed to a Corner near the stairs and said ‘man there’ she has autism and her speech was delayed at that age but she was psychically scared of something that night She did not settle there which was very unusual for her, it scared my husband so he said ‘we are going home now! When we got to our own home she slept peacefully, I believe a spirit was Being a nuisance to her.
One of mums best friends was spiritual and told me that I had a gift and that I saw spirits, It’s something I never wanted and it scared me every time, even in my own house grown with a daughter and husband of my own I still see ‘people’ as I call them in my own home at night and every time I see them I always think it’s an intruder before ever thinking its a spirit lol And I always ‘fight not flight, I run at them to attack and always end up running into my bedroom door lol.
My dad has been dead 15 years and when he died, he died at home in bed and the house was very active again for a while but my father built a lot of the new part of the house with his own hands so we all knew he would have a lot of energy there when he passed.
Mum Now on her own at the house and she Will be 80 in 2022 she now has Limited mobility but she is very stubborn and has no intention of leaving, it’s far too big for her to cope with but she has a Gardner and cleaner and I help her a lot with shopping, she says when she leaves this house it will be in a coffin.
My daughter is 11 and she stays with her nan ny every Friday night, it’s her routine and my mum loves having her, she stays a few days a week when it’s summer holidays and school holidays and she loves the house, but I feel she is spiritual too so can sense things but it doesn’t bother her to sleep on her own in my sisters old room next door to my mums. until about a year ago she told my mother that she had seen her grandad in mothers room where she slept on occasions and he asked her questions like ‘what does she like to do. After that she now sleeps down stairs, which is now where mother sleeps also now due to mobility.
Well That’s some of the stories anyway, there’s many more but these are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.
Other experiences…
A friend saw a bearded gentleman’s faced reflection as she passed by a mirror.
Mum saw a grotesque male face in gray similar to what Satan May look like for a split second in her Own reflection once in a mirror in the bedroom hallway.
I heard My music box draw click opened and the music started playing when I was trying to go to sleep one night as a child, I removed it from my room after that. My mother also had heard that too on occasions
I had china dolls in my room when I was a young teen and once one of their arms flopped down, got my dad to remove them and now are still in their hall way on a shelf.
One night mum felt really hot while trying to sleep she felt the heating was on too high so went to turn The heating down, the thermostat was in the lounge downstairs, as She went to to the thermostat she suddenly saw the door to lounge opening, all where asleep upstairs. She said she ran so fast up the stairs that she ran out of the top of the nightdress and ripped it, she Was shouting when she ran upstairs to my sister to grab me out of the cot and get in my brothers bedroom they then barricaded the door with his wardrobe and Didn’t sleep at all that night till morning when they all investigated together, apparently My brother complained and said ‘it’s roasting hot up here mum’ she replied ‘you will have to bloody sweat as I’m not going down till morning!
going up to bed one night she’s turning all the lights off in the lounge, she had a gold Latch she used to flip down to secure the door in lounge to the rest of the house, one night after she had done that as she walked to the stairs she suddenly heard the latch flick up and the door slowly open, another scarper up the stairs and lock the door behind her and put covers over her face.
all the bedrooms have either key locks or bolts on the inside of every Bedroom door due to travellers Visiting the pub years ago could rent a room for the night if they wanted as guests, Mum very much appreciated the locks and bolts as she did think it was mostly intruders to start with. It’s funny when you look back on it all and you think to yourself.. spirits can get through locked doors and bolted doors! but at the time it makes you feel really safe and secure that They will stay behind a locked door and funny enough most of the time They did.
Many times dad was armed with his shotgun quietly sneaky round the house after hearing bangs bumps and knocks..it’s a big house with many steps, levels, twists and turns so could take him a while to do a sweep search of the house, mum said she was always so relieved when he came back up to bed and said ‘no ones broke in’ but then both equally Perplexed on what the noise was that they heard in the first place.
Paranormal investigators along with mum and her teenage grandson witnessed all the glasses in bar which are stored upside downs start to all clink together several times.
Years later they went from a latch lock In lounge area to a battery operated alarm door lock so if it’s switched on And door opens, a alarm sounds. Which she set religiously. In middle of the night she heard the smoke alarm going off, when she went down half asleep and groggy to investigate she couldn’t smell any smoke so she got a stool and checked the smoke alarm and in her groggy sleep state she suddenly realised the noise was coming from the door which had been opened, she hastily shut door and used the old bolt and ran upstairs.
Mum was tidying behind the bar one morning after a family party we had the night before when she felt something or someone grab her shoulder, there was no one there.
There is a small American Indian doll high up on the bar (is still there) and one day my parents noticed I was playing with it as a toddler, they say there was no way possible that I would of been able to get that myself they said ‘how did you get that down from there? I apparently said ‘the lady gave me it!
So many to recall but these are some throughout the 46 years of my life.
Added..
Many lights started to flicker for over a month after his death touch lamps especially, also the solor lights outside the back door used to go in and off and we sat and watched them several times and spoke to dad sure that he was trying to Communicate with us. 2024.05.12 17:47 Routine-Tip6759 [React] Deep Honesty v/s Shallow Honesty [BLOG]

Most people avoid saying literally false things, especially if those could be audited, like making up facts or credentials. The reasons for this are both moral and pragmatic — being caught out looks really bad, and sustaining lies is quite hard, especially over time. Let’s call the habit of not saying things you know to be false ‘shallow honesty’.
Often when people are shallowly honest, they still choose what true things they say in a kind of locally act-consequentialist way, to try to bring about some outcome. Maybe something they want for themselves (e.g. convincing their friends to see a particular movie), or something they truly believe is good (e.g. causing their friend to vote for the candidate they think will be better for the country).
Either way, if you think someone is being merely shallowly honest, you can only shallowly trust them: you might be confident that they aren't literally lying, but you still have to do a bit of reverse engineering to figure out what they actually believe or intend.
This post is about an alternative: deep honesty, and the deep trust that can follow. Deep honesty is the opposite of managing the other party’s reactions for them. Deep honesty means explaining what you actually believe, rather than trying to persuade others of some course of action. Instead, you adopt a sincerely cooperative stance in choosing which information to share, and trust them to come to their own responses.
In this post, we've leaned into the things that seem good to us about deep honesty. Writing while being in touch with that makes it seem easier to convey the core idea. We've tried to outline what we see as disadvantages of deep honesty, but we're still probably a bit partial. We would love to see discussion of the idea, including critical takes (either that our concepts are not useful ones, or that this is less something to be emulated than we imply).
The rest of this post will be:

Examples of shallow (versus deep) honesty

Why deep honesty?

In all the above examples, it’s easy to see how deep honesty could go wrong — your boss thinks you’re a moron, your friends don’t care about your feelings, you have a weird existential crisis about whether you’re even a good person, and instead of going straight to a conference you get dragged off for half an hour of interrogation by government officials.
But what if it went right? It seems like when deep honesty is well-received, it leads to better outcomes, often in ways you can’t foresee. This isn’t a trite or mystical claim: rather, there will always be information you’re lacking that other people have. When you’re deeply honest, you equip them to make best use of their private information as well as yours. Perhaps your manager knows of a clever workaround to the problems you have. Even when they can’t make special use of the information, deep honesty makes it easy for them to rely on your reports, and so strengthens the relationship.
There are good reasons to refrain from deep honesty: it is a risk, and sometimes a large one. In the case of admissions, usually when you reject someone from a programme, you have a pretty clear sense of why, and actually explaining that to the applicant could be very helpful. But as well as being time-consuming, telling someone why they didn’t meet the bar can provoke quite a negative reaction and sometimes even reprisal. Deep honesty is an act of trust in the recipient.
However, it’s also sometimes quite hard to realize how much you’re missing when you stick to shallow honesty, and is easy to overestimate how successfully you’re crafting your message. Shallow honesty involves some amount of optimization, and so it falls prey to all of optimization's classic failures.
To take the example of public messaging, particularly smart and capable people are especially likely to spot disingenuous sales pitches, and when they do, they have basically no reason to tell you that you seem manipulative to them, and so there’s no feedback loop. From their perspective, there’s a chance you might be provoked to switch to deeper honesty, but you also might just optimize more carefully. So you learn nothing, and you end up missing out on some of the best people without even noticing.
Shallow honesty works well enough in cases where, in some sense, the other person wants it. The border patrol official would be happy to accept that you're here to see friends and wave you through, without working their head around the subject of the conference. But in domains where people are actively trying to resist adversarial optimization, they can catch on pretty fast.
Indeed, people with experience running admissions rounds generally learn how to spot applications that are shallow, because so many people do it. Likewise with funding applications. It is very natural to want to put your best foot forward and pitch people on why you’re so shiny and polished and great, but often it is a mistake. Sometimes the person reading your application wants to understand what you’re actually like, and if you clearly only give them half the picture then they still have to figure out the other half, only now they’re much less certain.

What deep honesty is not

Having made the case for deep honesty, it’s worth laying out some pitfalls, both in the application, and in how you might interpret the concept.

It is not a universal stance

Deep honesty is not a property of a person that you need to adopt wholesale. It’s something you can do more or less of, at different times, in different domains.

It is not independent of the listener

The words which will help a young child to understand what’s going on will be different from the words which will help an expert. Deep honesty is attuned to the situation, and the audience.

It is not telling people everything

Deep honesty doesn’t mean you have to share every detail that might be relevant. Deep honesty is in touch with what the listener cares about, and is in touch with your and their rights to choose where to spend time communicating. If the cashier at the grocery store asks how you’re doing, it’s not deeply honest to give the same answer you’d give to a therapist — it’s just inappropriate.

It does not relieve you of a responsibility to be kind

Deep honesty means you don’t take responsibility for how others respond to your words. Your responsibility is to make your words good — speaking with truth, relevance, and kindness. Their responsibility is to act well given that. But blunt truths can be hurtful. It is often compatible with deep honesty to refrain from sharing things where it seems kinder to do so (although be honest with yourself about whether it would be a deeper kindness to share). And it’s of course important, if sharing something that might be difficult to hear, to think about how it can be delivered in a gentle way.

It is not incompatible with consequentialism

A pure act-consequentialist, choosing the words that they predict will have the best outcomes, might sometimes lie. Many consequentialists would reject that as naĂŻve and demand at least shallow honesty as a side constraint.
However, this may still be too naïve. The winner’s curse is that whoever wins an auction is liable to have overestimated the value of the object. The same dynamic applies when you’re optimizing for what to say. You have noisy estimates of how good each option will be, and it’s likely that the one that looks best to you will be an overestimate — perhaps because it interacts with some kind of blindspot you have. If you’re optimizing under shallow honesty, you’re stuck with this problem. With deep honesty, you can hope that you may reveal useful information to people who don’t share your blindspots (even if you don’t know what that information is). And especially when you’re interacting with very competent people, you may not be so good at telling how they will receive any particular message.
So deep honesty as a heuristic for action for boundedly rational actors looks pretty good on consequentialist grounds. It’s very compatible with taking the low-hanging fruit of consequentialism — thinking through possible bad effects of communication, and taking steps to mitigate those. (Deep honesty also looks generally very good from non-consequentialist perspectives on ethics.)

Challenging cases for deep honesty

It’s not always the wise or moral choice to be deeply honest. Deep honesty is a risk, and it’s a bigger risk in some cases than others.
Even when you’re not being deeply honest about everything, it’s often worth remaining deeply honest at the meta level. Warn people that you’re biased and may argue for one side. Tell them that you’re simplifying things, or steering around a topic you don’t want to get into.

Large inferential gaps

Sometimes you have a very different worldview from your audience.
If you have a good understanding of their perspective (e.g. imagine explaining something to your own small child), you may be able to predict that they might draw inferences you’d consider inaccurate from things you share. It isn’t deeply honest to knowingly let them draw important false inferences, at least without warning them about this issue. But when bandwidth is limited, you may well not be able to bottom out all of the differences in perspective. In this case, deep honesty means improving their understanding of relevant topics in ways they’d endorse with moderately more context (you don’t get to assume they come to endorse your whole worldview). Sometimes this means (transparently) steering around a topic that’s more likely to cause inaccurate inferences; sometimes it means going out of your way to cancel possible implications.
Sometimes you don’t even know what inferences they might draw. Then it’s especially easy for attempts at communication to go wrong, and you might want to be correspondingly cautious about it. Deep honesty may take you into a zone of sharing things you might not otherwise share and are vulnerable. On the other hand, it’s hard to optimize in a shallowly honest way when you don’t understand the audience, so the unforeseen benefits of deep honesty can be especially helpful in these cases.

Audiences you don’t want to cooperate with

Sometimes people will want information so that they can cause harm, and it is reasonable to not help them. Sometimes you will meet people who actively want to twist your words, and it is reasonable to not give them ammunition.

Multiple audiences

It can be harder to be deeply honest when delivering a single message to multiple audiences that have different contexts and background assumptions. What’s most useful to one audience may not be most useful to another.
We can distinguish between active deep honesty, where you are trying to share whatever information the listener would most want (to reach an informed independent view), and passive deep honesty, where you’re at least not aiming to persuade the listener of something. With multiple audiences, you may only get to choose one to be actively deeply honest with in any moment, but you can always be passively deeply honest with all of them.
Sometimes you have some audiences you’d like to be deeply honest with, and others you wouldn’t. Now you have to make a judgment call about how much you value deep trust with the first group, versus how worried you are about the risks of deep honesty with the second.
Here’s a very rough sketch of the concepts we’re using

What being deeply honest might look like

Deep honesty is about empowering your listeners. In principle this could involve conscious optimization for what seems like it might be most useful for them. But as a practical matter, the best guide is often asking yourself, as you say something, “did it feel honest to say that?”. Anecdotally, it seems like this can lead to a qualitatively different mode of expression — where you don’t allow your communication to be steered by ulterior motives — and that some people are pretty good at intuiting when people are or aren’t in this mode. This is a very helpful skill to develop.
Deep honesty is often a bit scary, because you don’t know how others will react to it. This is why engaging in it can require something like faith, that striving after virtue will lead to good things, even if you’re not in a position to be able to say what those are.
Fortunately, although deep honesty has been described here as some kind of intuitive act of faith, it is still just an action you can take with consequences you can observe. So rather than diving in wholesale, you can just try to pay a bit more attention to where you’re already doing it or not doing it, whether it seems like others are doing it, and experiment with doing it a bit more in cases where that seems like it might work out.
Seriously, skipping to 100% deep honesty all the time would be a mistake, and also probably impossible. But it seems like maybe deep honesty is underrated right now.
So ask yourself more often, when thinking about how to communicate, “what is kind, true, and useful?” and “what is the heart of the matter?” rather than “what will have good effects?”. Take a moment to appreciate the people who seem to actually consistently say what they really believe, even if it means revealing that they're wrong or ignorant or have silly reasoning about something, and especially if it's not politically expedient..

2024.05.12 05:51 Wheeler_Marketing Content Tips for Instagram Success

Success on Instagram isn't just about posting pretty pictures and hoping for the best.
It's about having a plan, a purpose, and a clear roadmap to guide your content creation efforts.
So before we jump into the tips and tricks, let's take a moment to talk about why having a solid content strategy is so darn important.
1️⃣ Having a content strategy gives your Instagram presence direction and purpose. Instead of flying by the seat of your pants and posting whatever comes to mind, a content strategy helps you stay focused on your goals and objectives. Whether you're looking to increase brand awareness, drive traffic to your website, or boost sales, a well-thought-out content strategy can help you get there.
2️⃣ A content strategy helps you connect with your audience on a deeper level. By understanding who your audience is, what they care about, and what resonates with them, you can create content that speaks directly to their needs and interests. This not only strengthens your relationship with your existing followers but also attracts new followers who vibe with your vibe.
3️⃣ A content strategy allows you to measure your success and track your progress over time. By setting clear goals, defining key performance indicators, and regularly analyzing your results, you can identify what's working, what's not, and make data-driven decisions to optimize your content strategy moving forward. In other words, it's all about working smarter, not harder.
NOW, lets dive into some tips and tricks for making IG content that’ll make your audience want to come back for more!
  1. Know Thy Audience: Before you even think about creating content, you need to know who you're creating it for. Take some time to really understand your target audience – their interests, preferences, and pain points. This will serve as your North Star when it comes to crafting content that resonates with them on a deeper level.
  2. Diversify Your Content: Instagram is a melting pot of creativity, so don't limit yourself to just one type of content. Mix it up with a variety of formats, including photos, videos, Stories, and Reels. Each format offers its own unique advantages and can help you connect with different segments of your audience.
  3. The Power of Static Posts: Ah, the single photo/graphic – a timeless classic in the world of Instagram. But don't be fooled by its simplicity. A well-composed photo can speak volumes and stop scrollers dead in their tracks. Experiment with different angles, lighting, compositions, fonts, and/or graphics to find your signature style.
  4. Lights, Camera, Action – It's Video Time: Video content is all the rage on Instagram, and for good reason. It's dynamic, engaging, and allows you to tell richer stories. Whether it's a behind-the-scenes peek, a tutorial, or a product demo, video content has the power to captivate your audience like nothing else.
  5. Stories: Your Ticket to Authenticity: Instagram Stories are like your backstage pass to the world. They offer a more casual, authentic glimpse into your life and business, making them perfect for sharing behind-the-scenes moments, quick updates, and interactive polls.
  6. Reel 'Em In with Reels: If you haven't jumped on the Reels bandwagon yet, what are you waiting for? These short, snappy videos are taking Instagram by storm and offer endless creative possibilities. From lip-syncing challenges to quick tutorials, Reels are a fun and engaging way to connect with your audience.
  7. Plan, Plan, Plan: The key to consistent and cohesive content is planning ahead. Set aside time each week or month to brainstorm content ideas, create a content calendar, and schedule your posts in advance. This will help you stay organized and ensure that your content aligns with your overall marketing strategy.
  8. Quality Over Quantity: While consistency is important, quality should always be your top priority. Don't sacrifice the integrity of your content just to meet a posting quota. Take the time to create content that is visually stunning, informative, and meaningful to your audience.
  9. Tell Stories, Not Sales Pitches: People come to Instagram for inspiration, entertainment, and connection – not to be bombarded with sales pitches. Instead of focusing solely on promoting your products or services, focus on telling stories that resonate with your audience on a deeper level.
  10. Embrace Authenticity: In a sea of curated feeds and polished personas, authenticity is your secret weapon. Don't be afraid to show the real, imperfect, beautifully messy parts of your life and business. Authenticity builds trust and fosters genuine connections with your audience.
  11. Engage, Engage, Engage: Instagram isn't just a broadcasting platform – it's a community. So don't be a silent bystander! Take the time to engage with your audience by responding to comments, liking their posts, and participating in conversations.
  12. Use Analytics to Your Advantage: Instagram offers a wealth of insights and analytics that can help you understand what type of content resonates with your audience and what falls flat. Pay attention to metrics like reach, engagement, and follower growth to fine-tune your content strategy over time.
  13. Experiment and Iterate: Don't be afraid to try new things and step outside your comfort zone. Experiment with different types of content, posting times, and captions to see what works best for your audience. And remember, what works today might not work tomorrow, so be prepared to iterate and evolve your strategy as needed.
  14. Collaborate and Cross-Promote: Instagram is all about building connections and community, so don't be afraid to collaborate with other creators or brands in your niche. Cross-promotion can help you reach new audiences and inject fresh perspectives into your content.
  15. Stay True to Your Brand: Consistency is key when it comes to building a strong brand presence on Instagram. Make sure your content reflects your brand's values, aesthetics, and personality. This will help you build brand recognition and loyalty over time.
  16. Don't Forget the Call to Action: Every piece of content you create should have a clear call to action – whether it's to like, comment, share, or click a link. Don't leave your audience guessing – tell them exactly what you want them to do next.
  17. Stay Up to Date with Trends: Instagram is constantly evolving, so it's important to stay up to date with the latest trends and features. Whether it's the newest Instagram feature or a viral hashtag challenge, staying in the loop will help you keep your content fresh and relevant.
  18. Balance Promotion with Value: While it's important to promote your products or services on Instagram, it's equally important to provide value to your audience. Balance promotional posts with educational content, inspirational quotes, and behind-the-scenes glimpses to keep your audience engaged and interested.
  19. Stay Consistent: Consistency is the secret sauce to Instagram success. Whether you're posting once a day or once a week, stick to a consistent posting schedule to keep your audience engaged and coming back for more.
  20. Have Fun with It: At the end of the day, Instagram is all about creativity, connection, and fun. Don't take yourself too seriously – let your personality shine through, experiment with different types of content, and most importantly, have fun with it!
There's no one-size-fits-all approach to content strategy, so don't be afraid to experiment, iterate, and find what works best for you and your audience. 🙌

2024.05.11 17:34 blackthorn_orion The Nintendo Breakdown 2: An updated overview of confirmed, leaked, and rumored projects from Nintendo and its close partners

Hello again! About 6 months ago, I put together a Nintendo roundup that got some positive feedback, and with this week’s double-whammy of the Switch successor kinda being announced and a direct being confirmed for June, I figured now was as good a time as any to put out an updated version so folks can know where things stand and have something to chew on while they wait. My intent is to update this post after the June direct with any new information. Nintendo Entertainment Planning and Development (EPD): Formed in 2015 as part of a restructuring that unified Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development (EAD) and Nintendo Software Planning and Development (SPD). When people talk about “in-house Nintendo”, this is usually what they mean. EPD groups are primarily small producedirector-led teams that then scale up and pull from a shared “pool” of developers as projects get further into development. EPD’s many sub-groups can essentially be divided into those that primarily develop their own games and those focused more on overseeing/collaborating with other studios (both non-EPD Nintendo studios as well as fully external developers), though there are exceptions and gray areas
Development-focused groups
Oversight and collaborative groups
Other Nintendo-owned Studios: Mario World outside of EPD
Close Partners and Frequent Collaborators: The Nintendo Keiretsu and Friends
Misc. Odds and Ends. Things that didn’t really fit anywhere else, big grain of salt for some of these
Engine Talk: Finally, it’s a bit esoteric but with game engines becoming an increasingly common point of conversation and speculation, I figured I’d put together a rundown of some of the engines used in Nintendo games. This isn’t a comprehensive list (esp. because many studios use proprietary engines that aren’t well-documented), but should give a general idea of who uses what to make what (shouts-out to OatmealDome on twitter for doing the datamining work whenever a new game comes out, and MondoMega on Famiboards for maintaining a useful graphic that collates most of this information) )

Need help identifying + advice?
Hi everyone ☺️ I'm new to keeping jumpers, (never had any spiders myself but my sister had tarantulas for a long time) I rescued the male from my cat pawing him in a window and decided to keep him cause I thought he was cute, and as I was making a new home for him I found a female! So I decided to keep her too, I was planning on watching them for awhile and possibly letting them mate later if they wanted to, but it just so happens the female must have already mated with someone else? I only had her in her home (mason jar with a screen lid for now) for a few days before she made a very thick, white hammock, so I've been sending my sister pictures daily and she also thinks it's an egg sac, she even made a protective hammock right on the side of it! (see pics) I originally came here to see if y'all could help me identify the breed of the spoods, me and my sister think they're tan jumpers, she said their design can vary a little, as they don't have the typical wave pattern, and are still very small as well! I have to look at the jars for a solid 5 mins before I locate them lol, also wanted confirmation that this is an egg sac as well so I can get prepared to house the babies(and how to care for them) my sister has a family of jumpers in her kitchen plants so I was going to send most of them with her, maybe keep two and possibly trade with a friend's friend for some black jumpers as hers just had three clutches back to back, Also bc I think they're so cute. so any advice I would appreciate! Also if anyone knows where to get good enclosures for a not so high price (and for smaller spoods, I think they're considered slings still?) and if you've made your own? I'm thinking of diy-ing my own as I love to do arts n crafts (: Thank you!!! (The boy is on the leaf and the girl is on the stick!)

Arrowhead hired me as a Data Analyst to help with weapon balancing. You won't believe what I did next.
They didn't, but I have too much time and little care for it. I also have a medical diagnosis but that's irrelevant.
So I theorized how I would go about the whole weapon balance thing as a Data Analyst with 5-year experience working as... an economist for the state government? Should qualify me this!!
>> This is just a thought experiment! I’m unemployed! Not related to the medical diagnosis!<<
pictured: me rn
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TL;DR: I provide two data analysis tools crafted for this game. But they are dependent on the subjective understanding of the weapons. It's overanalyzed. Don't do it. Just playtest. Dr. Yen said the medicine should start working anytime now.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, this has two parts.
Part 1: the data analysis (how to use the numbers)
Part 2: subjective balancing (or why the numbers aren’t enough)
Part 3: my innovative fix for the Ajudicator
First, I’m a firm believer that data should be complimentary to the balancing. The main factor should be PLAYER EXPERIENCE (fun) and INTENDED WEAPON DESIGN.
Secondly, I need Arrowhead to understand that the ENEMIES balance the weapons too. A weapon is as bad as the enemy it shoots at is good. Great sentence. It means don’t pull a Railgun again. It also means that giving players information about enemy types at the loadout will open up A LOT of build variety and reduce dominance of some weapons without nerfing them!
Thirdly, there will never be a definitive anchor for what a balanced weapon should be. Weapons will be different, and making a weapon good CAN mean making them excel at a niche function. That can translate into a low % use in general, but higher when you measure the niche.
Fourthly, again please give info about enemy at loadout! It will produce so much more useful data for balancing!!!
Fithly, I have personal views on each weapon and stratagem and provide them for $30 each which should cover my pills.
>> Part one: data analysis aka the 😱 S**PREADSHEET **🫣
The numbers can actually help, guys, but you need to be DELIBERATE about it. In other words, work with it to HELP your already established vision, and not hope they provide you direction. You need the vision FISRT. Here are two tools that I came up with to investigate weapons. Preferably they are made from numbers on a spreadsheet, miss me with that sql crap
And you need them BOTH.
Tool one: 1D Weapon line between bugs and bots
Draw a horizontal line. Bugs on one side, bots on the other. Call in all the weapons on the line, plotting on one side the weapons that are very often picked bots but almost never for bugs, and vice versa. In the middle are weapons that are picked just as often (like impact grenade I’d imagine). The measure is % of weapon picked for one faction among total picks of weapon AFTER you normalize total number of picks by faction.
It’s a line that goes from 0%-100% anchored on one faction.
Should look like this:
https://preview.redd.it/8r0xluatmnzc1.png?width=1133&format=png&auto=webp&s=720734f8f806ff425fab1030577f199a0f3788e7
Of course this is just an illustration, the most precise method would be to actually call-in all the weapons on a game map and juggle them around. Arrowhead hire me to do that? I'm a good employee and Dr. Yen said the medicine WILL work this time
  • The benefits of doing this:
    • you get to evaluate diversity of weapons by faction
    • you separate specialized weapons from flexible weapons (and check if that was the intended outcome - if there was any at all)
    • you find common traits for weapons that work on the same faction, and can "split” similar weapons, balancing one to be better for one faction but worse for the other - avoiding the “is this just a shittier version of that?”
    • it tells you about weapons versatility without regard to its performance.
This tool is based on the principle that some weapons are more appropriate for one faction, while others are versatile, but every weapon SHOULD be good for SOMETHING JESUS CHRIST. However, the plot itself doesn’t tell you much about the balance state of weapons. That’s why you need to then add another ✨dimension✨ to the plot.
Tool two: 2D weapon graph
After you made the 1D plot, you can verticalize it by weapon effectiveness stats - the “balance” of it.
BUT WAIT. BEFORE you do that, remember this very important wisdom bestowed upon me by a couple of chargers side by side on top of what looked like a plateau, in the night of ACAMAR IV against the moonlight which should guarantee me a top voted meme on Helldivers had I not been trampled by a bile titan before I found the screenshot button: SEGMENT YOUR DATA.
I’m sure something of that sort is already done by the team but I tell you it is not producing results. You cannot analyze weapon balance on a dataset with players with vastly different armories and difficulties unlocked. Or very different player levels. Or between different MOs. Mission types. Sometimes even different planets. I don’t know what the data looks like, but I BET there are quite a few segmentations to be made. I would go as far as split based on emote choice. I have some suspicions. Anyway. Once you decide on a segmentation (or multiple) that represents the ideal player status or whatever - based on your vision or lack thereof - then you add the extra ✨dimensions✨, and we get GRAPHS.
For that you can use:
  • Total usage
  • % of successful missions
  • Usage by player level
  • Mission time
  • Deaths
  • % of players that drop weapon after few missions
  • avg number of missions since last picked
  • Anything that indicates better success
  • My personal opinion for $30 $25/item
Initially you plot graphs for each weapon category: primaries, secondaries, grenades etc. because you want to analyze how they perform against competitors. Then you can extend groups, like primaries that compete with supports. You can find them by seeing a weapon that is frequently picked with another one. That opens up a graph for EACH weapon (that you want to investigate). MORE GRAPHS.
You can do that for Eagles and Orbitals too! The result will be more graphs.
Stratagems vs weapons?? We have the graphs budget to solve that.
Enemy type vs. weapons? Gonna need the Extra Graph Budget
Self kills vs. weapons? That's unfortunately just a picture of The Eruptor.
Should look like this:
https://preview.redd.it/ixgip48umnzc1.png?width=991&format=png&auto=webp&s=07ec5974af1cf682e6963a3cefd2cfdba6692eeb
Why do this?
  • Find the weapons that need balancing the most
  • Do a longitudinal analysis and find how it correlates with game progress (MOs)
  • Correlate with player level and mission level to see what is being used by the best optimizers (try-hards)
  • Honestly throw everything at the wall to see what sticks? how much does it cost to plot a graph anyway
  • I think it's starting to kick in? Better hurry with this before I come to my senses
Example 1: a weapon is close to the center in the horizontal axis and also the vertical axis. That’s a versatile weapon that is too weak. Go ahead and buff it a little. Don’t go overboard because its versatility could make it dominant.
Example 2: a weapon is too high on the vertical axis and close to the middle - nerf it.
Example 3: a weapon is too high on the vertical axis and very close to one end of the horizontal axis: it’s specialized for one faction. Let’s assume that was intended. In this case, nerf it, but only the parts that are not related to the specialization. Like don’t remove the Eruptors ability to one-shot spewers and stalkers and make it poopy.
Example 4: a weapon is very close to one end of the horizontal axis, but quite low on the vertical axis. It MAY BE weak, but it is doing SOMETHING for that particular faction. Buff that aspect. Or, check other graphs and maybe you find out it’s good but niche. Possibly it’s best to leave it alone. You really gotta know what you want the weapon to be.
The two last exemples tell you the main lesson that Arrowhead is missing: YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE WEAPON. What it’s designed for. What a balanced state for that individual weapon would be. What niche it fills?
>> Part two: subjetive analysis
Not much to say here, do this before you try to crunch numbers.
  • There are just too many variables to guarantee balancing from just a “spreadsheet” - common reddit criticism
  • The game is about player experience, so we need to make sure the weapons are delivering the experience. The Eruptor is slow and dangerous, but shoots heavy and kills in one shot, and opened up new builds. That’s the experience everyone loved. Keep it. Actually, write the desired experience for each weapon. Look at the 1D plot for that. Understand what the weapon means to the players, and what it is used for, and what makes it get chosen. The Railgun should have taught that lesson. It also should have taught the other super important lesson: enemies balance the weapons. In that regard, the 1D line is a great tool. If you see the Railgun being picked very often, but even more so for bugs, then there is something about the BUGS that do it, not the weapon. After adjusting for something thought inadequate with the bugs (charger), we then tune the weapon numbers (or do at the same time if you do some PLAYTESTING).
  • Come up with a niche schema, add niches to it with clear definitions of what should be good for it. Place weapons in their niche and balance them to fill that. Some will belong to a single niche, some will work across a few. Some should be versatile.
  • Example: impact grenade will be versatile. Stun grenade will fill bots “niche” better. Smoke grenade could fill niche in some missions (blitz) if it were better. Probably will never be good for eradicate. It’s fine. Decide what it’s good for and balance accordingly. Thermite grenade could fill the “lots of chargers” niche if the players have info about enemy composition at loadout (and it was better).
  • Don’t be afraid to give players more info. What enemies will be there? What tanks? Communicate better what each weapon does. Players will diversify their loadout very quickly.
  • Some weapons will be fodder and not get picked after you get more experienced. Some weapons may be designed just for the early game experience. Some weapons will fill the same niche, but play different and then it’s up to personal choice. One will be chosen more. Doesn’t mean the other one is bad. It’s fine. Think of that too.
>> Part three: the adjudicator is chucked forward when reloaded and explodes on contact. A random primary appears on your hand.
Conclusion: none of this should probably done? Just playtest and be smart. Again I have a diagnosis. But I would LOVE to do it anyway. If Arrowhead's data leak they know where to find it.
Anyway how do I fax this to Arrowhead HQ?

How Does Neotonics Work To Improve Gut And Skin Health?

Neotonics works on the newly discovered root cause of skin aging. Studies show that an inefficient cellular turnover in the body is the prime cause of the aging of the skin. The process of cellular turnover is controlled by a person’s gut health.
Here, the problem is that, as a person ages, his gut health becomes weaker affecting cellular turnover in the body. Therefore, to initiate efficient and healthy cellular turnover in the body, the first thing that needs to be worked on is gut health.
Neotonics skin and gut health formula consists of probiotics and other science-backed natural ingredients that work to improve your gut health, thus regulating healthy cellular turnover in the body. This results in better skin health and immunity.

Everyone Can Like Christmas A Lot

In the heart of Whoville, Christmas is a tapestry woven with whimsy and tradition, blending the fantastical with the time-honored. Streets adorned with Victorian-inspired decor, where garlands of holly and ivy intertwine with handmade paper ornaments, create a scene straight out of a cherished storybook. The air is filled with the aroma of roasted goose and plum pudding, evoking memories of old-fashioned feasts shared by generations past. Gathered around crackling fires and pianos, Whos sing carols that echo through the cobblestone lanes, their voices carrying the timeless melodies of "Silent Night" and "The First Noel." Handcrafted gifts, lovingly made and exchanged, embody the spirit of giving and gratitude. And amidst the laughter and joy, the true magic of Who Christmas shines brightest—a celebration of community, compassion, and the enduring warmth of cherished traditions.
A delightful concept inspired by the whimsical world of Whoville from Dr. Seuss' "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" In Whoville, Christmas is celebrated with unique traditions and customs that embody the true spirit of the holiday. Here's a glimpse into a "Who Christmas" in traditional Whoville style:
  1. Decorations:
    • Whimsical, colorful decorations adorn every corner of Whoville, from intricate paper snowflakes to twinkling lights shaped like candy canes and Whos.
    • Whoville trees are quirky and crooked, decorated with bright baubles, ribbons, and tinsel that defy gravity.
    • Every house is a masterpiece of creative decor, with roofs adorned with wreaths made of candy, popcorn strands, and gingerbread men.
  2. Feast:
    • The Whos gather for a festive feast featuring roast beast (a Who delicacy), Whobilation pudding, and mountains of colorful sweets like Who-hash and Who-pudding.
    • The feast is a time for sharing stories, laughter, and gratitude, with each Who bringing a special dish to contribute to the communal table.
  3. Gift-Giving:
    • Instead of extravagant gifts, the Whos exchange thoughtful presents that reflect their appreciation for one another.
    • Homemade gifts, like knitted scarves, painted rocks, and handcrafted ornaments, are cherished as tokens of love and friendship.
  4. Singing and Merriment:
    • Caroling is a cherished tradition in Whoville, with the Whos singing joyful tunes like "Welcome Christmas" and "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" with boundless enthusiasm.
    • Musical instruments made from household items, such as jingle bells fashioned from spoons and drums made from pots and pans, add to the festive cacophony.
  5. Community Spirit:
    • The true essence of Who Christmas lies in the spirit of togetherness and generosity. Whos come together to help those in need, spreading kindness and goodwill throughout Whoville.
    • The Grinch's heartwarming transformation from a holiday cynic to a celebrant of Christmas embodies the message of forgiveness, love, and redemption.
  6. Whoville Traditions:
    • The lighting of the giant Who Christmas tree in the town square is a grand event, accompanied by a spectacle of fireworks and joyous cheers from Whos of all ages.
    • The Mayor of Whoville leads the Whobilation ceremony, where the Whos join hands and sing their hearts out, embracing the joy of the season.
In Whoville, Christmas is not just about presents and decorations; it's a time to celebrate the bonds of family and community, the magic of kindness, and the joy of being together. Who Christmas captures the essence of the holiday in a uniquely whimsical and heartwarming way.

Old Traditional Styles Too

Adding an old traditional Christmas vibe to the "Who Christmas" celebration in Whoville can create a charming blend of nostalgic customs and whimsical festivities. Here's how you might incorporate elements of an old-fashioned Christmas into the vibrant world of Whoville:
  1. Victorian-Inspired Decor:
    • Whoville homes are adorned with classic Victorian decorations like garlands of holly and ivy, handmade paper ornaments, and flickering candles in brass holders.
    • Instead of bright colors, the decor features rich reds, greens, golds, and deep blues, evoking a sense of warmth and nostalgia.
  2. Festive Feast with a Vintage Twist:
    • The Whos enjoy a feast reminiscent of a Victorian Christmas dinner, featuring roasted goose, plum pudding with brandy sauce, mince pies, and mulled wine.
    • Tables are set with heirloom china, silverware, and linen napkins embroidered with festive motifs.
  3. Traditional Carol Singing:
    • Whos gather around the piano or a crackling fireplace to sing timeless Christmas carols such as "Silent Night," "O Holy Night," and "The First Noel."
    • Handheld instruments like wooden flutes, tambourines, and harmonicas add a rustic charm to the musical performances.
  4. Homemade Gifts and Crafts:
    • In keeping with old traditions, Whos exchange handcrafted gifts such as knitted scarves, embroidered handkerchiefs, wooden toys, and homemade jams and preserves.
    • Children delight in making paper snowflakes, gingerbread houses, and cornhusk dolls as thoughtful gifts for family and friends.
  5. Charitable Giving and Community Support:
    • Whoville's generosity shines during the holiday season as Whos participate in charitable acts such as donating food and gifts to those in need, volunteering at shelters, and organizing charity events.
    • The spirit of giving and compassion is woven into the fabric of Who Christmas, reflecting the values of kindness and goodwill.
  6. Time-Honored Traditions:
    • The lighting of the town's Christmas tree is a cherished tradition, where Whos gather to sing carols, share stories, and enjoy roasted chestnuts and hot cider.
    • Festive parades featuring homemade floats, carolers, and dancers add to the old-world charm of the holiday celebrations in Whoville.
By blending the whimsy of Whoville with the timeless traditions of an old-fashioned Christmas, the Who Christmas celebration becomes a magical journey through the past, celebrating the beauty of heritage, community, and the spirit of the season.

2024.05.10 09:20 french_jc [M4F] Wholesome romance

Hey fellow Roleplayer! (not replacing anyone)
I'm JC, a 44-year-old from Europe. I'm on the lookout for someone to explore modern-day romance with a twist of everyday life. It doesn't matter if it's the busy city streets or the chill vibes of the suburbs; I'm up for crafting stories about our characters' daily lives.
A bit about me: I'm a flexible roleplayer, ready to take on characters between 25 and 45. My style leans towards immersive storytelling, you know, filled with emotions and connections that mirror the messiness of real life.
What I'm after: I'm on the hunt for a creative partner who can handle playing a female character. Someone who can give some depth to their role, maybe add a bit of care and mystery. Let's build a connection that's not just your average run-of-the-mill stuff.
Themes I'm into:
Your role:
Bring to life a character who's not just caring but also has a bit of intrigue. Let's dive into the subtleties of romance, exploring the moments that get our characters' hearts racing.
And here are the prompts – we don’t have to stick to those, we can just brainstorm and find something that makes both of us vibe.
Single father: "Unexpected Bonds"
In the quiet suburbs, a single father finds himself juggling the challenges of parenthood after tragically losing his wife during childbirth. Needing some help with his precious baby, he decides to hire a nanny. Your character enters the picture, going for the job.
As days roll by, a unique bond forms between the single father and the nanny. Share the tender moments of caring for the baby, the laughter, and the shared challenges. How does this professional relationship turn into a deep, unexpected romantic connection, providing solace and hope in the midst of life's messiness? How does your character handle becoming not just a caregiver but also a source of comfort and love for a grieving single father?
The CEO and the Barista: "Brewing Romance"
In the bustling city, a successful and slightly older CEO gets hooked on the charm and skill of a young and ambitious barista in a quaint coffee shop. Every morning, he hits up the same place, not just for the love of coffee, but to exchange a few words with the intriguing barista.
Let's dig into the dynamics of this offbeat connection. The CEO, used to the corporate world, and the barista, dealing with the daily grind, trying to bridge the gap between their different worlds. How do they handle the complexities of class differences and age gaps, finding common ground in their shared love for coffee and a genuine connection?
Uncover the layers of their personalities as they deal with societal expectations, judgments, and the unexpected turns when two worlds collide. Can they get over the barriers that society throws at them and build a romance that's not what folks expect?
Best friends reunited: "Journey to Love"
As the landscapes roll by outside the car windows, three childhood friends, now in their 30s, go on a random road trip. Nostalgia for shared memories and the excitement of new adventures fill the air. Little do they know that this journey will be more than just a physical exploration – it's a dive into the depths of their emotions.
Throughout the trip, they revisit the places that shaped their youth, sharing laughs, stories, and the unspoken connection that's bound them since childhood. As the miles go by, subtle glances and fleeting touches reveal a truth that's been simmering beneath the surface: they've loved each other in ways they never dared to admit.
