Hi, I'm new here and am not super proficient with vehicle mechanics, so I'll do my best to describe the issue, the vehicle being a very basic 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander ES 2.4 L automatic.
I accidently over discharged my battery over the course of about 4-5 hours today, my battery being only about 8 months old now. My windows were down and when I went to roll up my windows I turned my key and realized it was already on (long story short, it was a nice day I fell asleep in my car in the shade while I was working on something with electronics plugged in and left the key in the on position). So when I realized that the ignition start wasn't turning because it had already at the "on" position I realized I killed the battery, like a dingus. I did recognize some faint clicking sounds that I thought was just the failure to initiate the start due to the exhausted battery. I have a portable jump start device, so I grabbed it and lifted the hood to find that here was a constant clicking coming from the engine fuse box. But my keys were in my pocket and the ignition switch is completely off so I didnt understand where or why power was being accessed from. Two of my apartment maintenance men came to try to helped me, one thought it was a relay, which I had also wondered if it was, so he removed one relay individually, and when it kept clicking put it back in before he pulled the subsequent ones.
I have had this issue once before back during a very cold winter, about a year and a half ago. It was well past time to replace my battery but I didn't have the money right then, which is why I got my little jumper box. The thing is, when it happened that previous time my headlights were turning on by themselves, even though the physical switch was off (I have a base model so they shouldn't have been activated at all). I had assumed during the last time that my fuse box had gotten wet and caused a short, and assumed it was why my vehicle seemed possessed, especially because the headlights were seemingly surging /extremely fast power cycling. It had been a WAY louder clicking though last time, so much so I thought it was going to explode. It was pretty unnerving, the clicking sounded so aggressive, and it was also coming from the engine fuse box. I solved it last time by just disconnecting the battery and I waited several days (thinking it was due to moisture/snow exposure because I was jumping my old battery pretty frequently then). But today it is warm and dry so moisture is not a contender. Also, today, I didnt have any Frankenstein headlight action going on either.
So when comparing the two instances of occurrence I know these things: 1. The battery was drained/dead both times 2. Despite the ignition not supplying power to the electrical something was accessing or bypassing it. (Maybe the anti-theft system?) 3. When I disconnect either of the battery terminals, it stops. And if immediate put it back or touch it to tthe battery then the fuse clicking begins again. 4. After waiting some time (a few days for the first instance, a dozen or so minutes for the current one) when the battery is reconnect it stops. 5. It's doesnt appear to be caused by failing relays, as internet research might have suggested (I did this research the first time it happened. 6. No fuses in the engine compartment had been or were subsequently blown which could have caused or might have resulted from this.
Seriously, I searched a lot of forums, youtube, reddit, and backalley Google search links trying to figure out what the fart is going on. There doesn't appear to be any damage to wires and it sounds like it is coming directly from the engine fuse box not the passenger compartment one, which is directly under the engine compartment fuses/box. My other fuse box is located in the passenger compartment on the driver side far left close to floor under the dash. But I feel like it would have been loud in the passenger compartment if it were due to that fuse box. The manuals that came with my vehicle don't identify any kind of issues like that, they more describe maintenance stuff.

Hi, I moved unto my apartment this winter and now that it is getting warmer, I want to use my balcony more. However, it is very dirty. It was like that when I moved in. It is also quite long, as it is a corner apartment and it goes all the way around. I would very much like to have it professionally cleaned first time, then I can maintain it after. I haven't had much luck find a cleaner for this in Google, does anyone know of one? Preferably an affordable one. I live in Tsukuda, Chuo-ku.

Just curious. My first time having winterized and storing bike in a cold garage. My engine was making a bit of a burnt smell at first when I was using up the fuel that was stored, but now it's running fine. I'm at the 1yr mark so I was thinking to take it in to get it seasonal check up and an oil change, but I didn't ride much last season (just about 3,000km). I was thinking to hold out till beginning of next season to get the oil change done since I'm buying a second bike, but I was thinking this might be unsafe and decided to just do it since it's not that much in big picture. What do you guys do if you winterize? I googled and it seems like filter paper may also start to dissolve after a while.

So, we recently discovered that our 15 year old, oil-fired Dunkirk steam boiler is cracked and in need of replacing. I'm acquiring quotes from various contractors in the area but all of this is kind of overwhelming, since they all seem to be interested in selling me something different.
It's a fairly small house, around 1300sq ft, in central CT.
2 BR and most of our 'living' is on the on the 1st floor, and the 2nd floor is basically roughly finished attic space, previous owners were using it as a bedroom and there's a half bath up there as well. We use it as a family room, but it's basically unusable in the summer - the windows are too small for an A/C unit (and I refuse to get a portable AC) and there's just no air movement up there, and in the winter it takes forever to heat up - the pipe feeding that 2nd floor radiator is both undersized (3/4") and copper for some reason. Every single radiator valve (not vent, I replaced those) in the house also needs replacing, some of the knobs have disintegrated and they all leak water when the system is running at full-tilt.
Since the boiler needs to get replaced anyway, I've been looking into alternatives as well, such as mini splits and heat pumps. I definitely like the idea, but electric rates in CT are a little...high. If I had solar with a nice big battery backup, this would be a no brainer, but we haven't gotten solar installed yet and no plans to do so for at least another 5-10 years.
Every contractor that comes in seems to send me in a slightly different direction, and I'm just not sure what's best. 1 gave me an option of ripping it all out, switching to forced hot water & new baseboard heaters in place of the radiators. Another suggested a heat pump feeding a ducted air handler in the basement and cutting registers in the floor for forced hot air. Another suggested dual fuel, keeping a new steam boiler as well as supplementing with mini-splits, though that one does seem cost prohibitive.
So far, the pricing I've gotten has been anywhere from 8-9k for a straight oil burning replacement, up to 15k+ for a gas conversion (we have gas in the house already for our water heater, but the chimney isn't lined so we'd need to do that), $20k for the gas forced hot water, and $23K+ for the heat pump solution since we'd also need to upgrade to a 200a electrical service.
None of it seems terribly unreasonable as far as pricing goes, that's not really my complaint or question, more just that I'm not sure what the best option would be for a house this size in this climate, since there seems to be quite a few options these days. Back to the Googles for more research!

Hi everyone. I recently bough a house and I want to do some changes here and there, mainly related to plumbing and electrical installation.
I'm new to the city, so I'm using Google to find electricians and plumbers. I see some businesses have the Techniek Nederland, VCA, InstallQ, etc. logos in their websites and some others do not.
I'm currently looking for an electrician and I'm between two companies that have great reviews, and even pictures of themselves carrying work for other businesses (like Albert Heijn or similar). I got a quote from both and the prices are similar. So the only difference being the certification marks listed on their websites.
In the general sense, my question is whether these certifications make a difference on the quality/safety of the work? For instance, I would like to trust that my electrician ran appropriate wiring through the house so the cables won't catch fire when live, or that the plumber did the piping so that no backflow can occur and end up contaminating the water.
These seem like technical topics were calculations and standards are involved, rather than only empirical knowledge. And I don't know if, for instance, an electrician/plumber needs to finish some university programme before being able to carry technical work, and if the certification is more like a business guarantee.
I would appreciate if you could shed some light on how these professions work, as finding an available contractor is already difficult enough, let alone finding contractors that are certified. Thanks beforehand.

I have found a cabin in Pinnacle I'm looking to stay at at least one night of my trip. My fiancé and I are eloping at Sun Point (just us). I'm looking at Google Maps and it seems like I'll have to drive out of the park on the east side and go back in to reach Sun Point, but is that because Google Maps is directing me away from GTTS Road due to the winter closures?
We're okay with being kind of far from amenities - I can't really eat out due to allergies so we would be packing in food anyway. One of the options we're looking at has a full kitchen. Just trying to (if I can) find somewhere to stay at least the night before and night that we elope that is as close to sun point as we can! A few years ago, one of our children was lured into a sex trafficking circle. I worked tirelessly with the Longmont PD posing as our child to bring the 9 felonies Andrew Sebastien Rosa is charged with. When police were ready to make an arrest, Rosa went on the run and is facing natiowide extradition. Our family was approached last year by the producers of "In Pursuit with John Walsh" and asked if we would be willing to film an episode. It was our child's decision every step of the way, each "yes" to this had to come from them. We sat down with Calahan Walsh last January to film an episode anonymously, and it was released today, 5/15. It streams on most services. If it's too much to watch, I understand, but I am asking that this interview and the context be shared as widely as possible, because this POS is believed to still be alive and receiving assistance. OG post was pulled because I didn't include enough links for the mods, so I am hoping to rectify that. Our (at the time 14 year old) daughter was procured for sex and violently assaulted by Andrew Sebastien Rosa. Once she felt brave enough to tell me what had happened, we reported it to the Longmont, CO PD, and I posed as my daughter for months, passing on d**k pics, and lists of young girls he wanted her to recruit, much as she had been recruited, some as young as 11. (He was mining her social media for potential children). When the arrest was about to be made, he ran. He is wanted by Longmont PD and the FBI for several felonies related to child sex trafficking. He has not been found. Last year, our family was approched by the show "In Pursuit with John Walsh" and asked if we would film an episode to help find him. Every single decision regarding this was put to our daughter, who said yes, she just wanted it to be filmed anonymously. She was incredibly brave throughout all of this, and remains so. On the original post someone asked, "why are you posting about this show, this isn't Timesuck related?" Well, my experience with the CoC is that we're all for catching child predators, and Rosa is definitely one, as I've seen the messages with my own eyes. Today, 5/15, our episode was released, "Into the Dead of Winter". It is the second case featured in the episode. "In Pursuit" streams on most platforms, and I am hoping the CoC might watch it and be able to help, even if that means sharing it. Below are several news links regarding Rosa and his crimes.
