2024.05.16 22:16 Musiclover4200 30$ mini theremin (mixer geek)

Been curious about these cheap mini theremins for years, they go for closer to 60$ on most sites but recently found one for 31$ (it was actually 26$ on sale) the reviews on other sites are pretty mixed mostly due to a lack of instructions (this one did come with basic instructions at least) so I was hesitant to order one but after spending some time with it am mostly impressed: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806375688167.html
Here's a video that goes through all the sounds in it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svGYV8ZEd00
Some thoughts:
It uses mini antennae so the sensitivity range is relatively small, but it has a lot of settings to tweak the response of both antennae and is fun to play anyways. It does have some basic quantization (just 0-5 settings) but so far it seems to mostly smooth the change in pitch a bit and set to 0 is the classic theremin sound
It has a bunch of sounds, 71 to be exact ranging from basic waves (sine/saw/square) to weirder acoustic sounds. Some are pretty similiar but at least a few were surprisingly impressive/unique, the surf modes are perfect.
Some of the acoustic sounds respond differently with the volume antennae working as a trigger (you have to wave your hand back and forth to trigger notes) while the other controls pitch, takes some getting used to but works pretty well
It even has a tiny built in speaker, the audio/phones out disables it and the vol can be set from 0-99 (I mixed up the antennae/audio out jacks at first and was worried it was broken before double checking)
You can set the base pitch across the full range (c1 to f#7) and it displays the frequency & notes as you play including a keyboard visualization, also has a basic oscilloscope
It doesn't save settings when shut down, but it doesn't take long to tweak the settings though it does have a lot of them. That seems like the main downside so far.
Haven't tried any nicer theremins to compare it to but can tell it will be a lot of fun to use. Got it to run into a semi modular rig and blend with other sounds so the mini size is perfect, will see how sturdy it is as it does seem fragile but for the price you could always build a nicer case for it.
Really the only thing it lacks is delay/reverb, but ran into some FX it would be hard to tell it's a 30$ theremin vs a 300$ one. Might have to buy a second one eventually for dueling theremins, or hell get 4 of them and play 2 with feet.
Side note but might measure the voltage of the audio output, would be cool if you could use it as a CV source to use motion to modulate other signals. Either way definitely recommend it for anyone who's been curious to try a theremin but hesitant to spend too much.

2024.05.16 21:52 OrwellianWiress Valley of the Sentries

You know what the best part is about playing Engineer in Team Fortress 2? You get to watch how angry everyone gets when they get shot by your sentry guns. Me and my best friend Jose both main Engineer, and can confirm that the best way to spend your Friday nights after school is to set up a sentry and get ready for the rage. There’s been matches where we haven’t even used our actual guns even once, but racked up lots of kills just because of the sentries.
One day Jose called me up with an idea that was either going to be the stupidest thing ever or the smartest thing ever. He wanted to fill an entire team with only Engineers and watch the chaos unfold. I couldn’t stop laughing at the mental image in my head and agreed with the plan. I joined a Discord server with everyone else on the team.
I convinced my cousin Matthew to join, and he in turn brought along his little brother Zack. According to Matthew, it took quite a bit of convincing because Zack was a Scout main who couldn’t stand Engineers. He eventually got through to his little brother by promising him a Steam gift card. I even got their dad Graham to play along (yes, I have an uncle who plays TF2. How cool is that?). Jose enlisted his friends, who turned into friends of friends and soon enough we had a team of 16 Engineers.
To say that we caused chaos that night was an absolute understatement. As soon as we joined the game the text chat was flooded with messages from the other team wondering what the hell was going on. And they only got worse from that point on. We surrounded our control points with a ring of sentries that people just kept running into. I saw keyboard smashes and heard other teen boys’ voices crack in rage and many, many words that I personally don’t care to repeat here.
The most skilled Engineer was this guy named Craig, who was a friend of one of Jose’s friends. Not only was he the main person capturing the enemy control points with some very strategically placed teleporters, but he was also really friendly and encouraging to all of us. I didn’t know what he looked like, but from his voice it sounded like he was in his early 20s.
Me and Craig started to chat more and more on Discord. He was a super nice guy who was also really fun to talk with. He took time out of his day to teach me how to be an even better Engineer player. Whenever someone started dissing me in the voice chat, he firmly told them to leave me alone. After seeing my fair share of toxicity in the TF2 community, it was nice to know that this complete stranger was looking out for me.
This whole Team Engineer thing became a weekly tradition for us on Friday nights. It was something everyone could look forward to after work or school. One time after everyone logged off and said their goodbyes, Craig sent a message a few hours later in our Discord:
“You guys gotta check this out. I found the weirdest server ever. It’s literally Engineer heaven. Meet me at vl_sentry.”
I was still in the mood to play and I could stay up late tonight, so I hopped back on TF2. I saw that Jose, Graham and this other girl we played with named Lynn were also online. I found vl_sentry and connected to the server. The map was called Valley of the Sentries and it was created by Valve.
It took my computer a little bit to process the map, and it took me even longer than that to process what I was seeing.
The map looked like a chessboard with 3D-sculpted hills. The sky was just pure white. Not even white walls, just the color white. Every square had a blue sentry on it and there were about 4 or 5 other Engineers jumping around, spamming their voice lines. That’s when I realized that we were the only ones there, and there was no red team.
“Hey Sean, glad you could make it :)” Craig said in the text chat. “What the hell is this?” I asked. He told me that this was a server that one of his friends showed him. The friend said he was introduced to the map by a friend of his who knew someone who worked at Valve. Craig then went on to explain that apparently Valley of the Sentries was an experiment to test the limits of the sentry guns and their effect on the servers. Rumor has it that the map is infinite.
“Check this out.” said Jose. He switched to Heavy and immediately got shot down. All of the sentries turned towards him. There were so many of them that it made the game lag a ton. He respawned as Engineer and the sentries just kept on spinning.
“WTF?” I typed. “We tried it with all the other classes and it does the same thing.” said Craig. “It ignores Engineers, but shoots everyone else.” Lynn added. “And that’s why we’re the best class. Engineer power!” Graham joked.
I asked what would happen if you were to play as Spy and sap one of the sentries. “I tried, but you gotta have a godly reaction time to activate it.” said Jose. As soon as he said “godly reaction time”, I knew I had to try it out just for the bragging rights.
Respawn. Shot down. Respawn. Shot down. Respawn. Shot down.
Yeah, I did not have a godly reaction time. The others kept spamming “lol” in the chat each time I failed. I got annoyed pretty quickly and stopped trying. Then out of nowhere, all the sentries turned away from me and started firing at someone. I turned around and all five of us were still standing there. I looked at the top bar that shows how many characters were in the game. There were only five Engineers and they were all on the same team. So what the hell were the sentries targeting?
I started to walk in the direction that the sentries were facing and Jose followed me too. We moved really slow, not only because of the sentries on every square but also the uphill climbs. It was just us two in the chat for a while, talking about seeing each other back at school on Monday while we made our slow walk across the map. Then our conversation was interrupted by a chat message from Lynn.
“Why is there a man in the sky?”
Me and Jose tried to get to Lynn to see what she was talking about as fast as possible, but we moved like snails. To get back to the spawn point, we both switched classes, instantly died and respawned as Engineers. I don’t think we respawned in the same place we started from. I don’t even know where we respawned. There were no landmarks or notable things to help you find your way. Just hills, valleys, and sentries.
I asked Lynn where she was and she just told me she was with Graham and Craig. Only that wasn’t very helpful because we didn’t know where they were either. We stood there, stumped for a minute and a half until Jose got an idea. He said that she should just switch classes and respawn, because then all of the sentries would point toward her and we could follow them all the way back to her. She made the switch, got shot down, and we instantly knew where to find her.
We finally got close enough to kind of make out the vague shape of a few Engineers over the non-existent horizon. Me and Jose were relieved, until all the sentries pointed to our right. I swiveled around and saw them open fire on…nothing. I checked with Jose to see if he caught something I didn’t, but he also didn’t see what they were shooting at. I decided that it wasn’t that important and continued to walk towards the rest of the group.
We met up with Lynn, Craig and Graham, disappointed that we made that trek all for nothing. Even though we were all together now, it just felt so lonely. The only sound coming from my computer was the constant beeping of the sentries in perfect sync. I don’t know why, but it made me so uneasy. I attempted to break the silence by going to the voice lines and playing the iconic Engineer “Nope” soundbite. It echoed across the checkered land with no response.
It was about 12:30 AM at this point and I was starting to feel more and more unsettled with each passing minute. There was just something about this black and white world that I felt creeped out by. Before Craig invited us to come over, there was no one else on the server. Who would even want to play on this map, anyways? It’s so unfairly balanced that only one class can survive. Movement speed was super slow, and you can’t even really do anything except watch the sentries turn and turn and turn forever. It was like hypnosis, except I didn’t feel sleepy or relaxed at all.
Speaking of being sleepy, Jose said he was getting tired and was going to be logging off. We all said goodbye to him and continued chatting amongst ourselves. It sounds stupid, but my stomach dropped when I saw the fifth Engineer portrait disappear. One less person to talk to. One less person to keep myself from wondering what else was out here. I could have sworn that after he left, the beeping got louder.
“So is this map actually infinite?” asked Graham. “Only one way to find out.” Craig said. “Just keep on walking and see if it goes on forever.” “Why don’t you just fire a shotgun and see how far it goes?” Lynn suggested.
I took out the shotgun and fired. The bullet flew off into the white distance and disappeared.
Then I heard the distinct sound of someone getting shot.
A message appeared in the chat, from someone named sentry_check_pattern.
“sentry_check_pattern: stop that”
Once again I looked at the top bar. It just showed four blue Engineers. That meant we were the only ones on the server. Or so we thought.
The chat was flooded with our confusion, almost as if everyone realized at the same time that something wasn’t right. None of us moved an inch.
“What even is this place?” I asked, hoping that the mysterious user would provide me with an answer. “Must be Engineer heaven.” said Graham.
“sentry_check_pattern: more like my personal hell”
This was the moment that made me trust my intuition. I knew there was a reason why I found this map so creepy. I wanted to leave the server, but there was just one thing keeping me back- my own curiosity. My wish to unveil the mysteries of the Valley of the Sentries.
“Okay this is really freaking me out. See ya guys.” said Lynn before she left the server. The fourth Engineer’s portrait disappeared from the top bar.
No no no, please. Please don’t go. Don’t leave us. I wouldn’t want to be alone here. Now there’s just three of us, and I really hope that number doesn’t go down anymore. When the others were here, this was just a weird TF2 map that we were exploring together as friends. And now it feels like we’re trapped in this infinite world, but we aren’t alone. The only problem is we don’t know what else is here.
I shuddered, imagining Craig and Graham ditching me and leaving me all alone in the Valley of the Sentries. Just me and whoever- no, whatever was talking to us.
“sentry_check_pattern: you don’t know how good you have it
you can leave at any time
i can’t”
This terrified me. What a horrible thought, never being able to leave this place. But of course, no one could really be trapped here. It’s a Team Fortress 2 server. You can just exit the game and shut your computer. No one could be trapped in a video game.
But if you think about it, aren’t the characters themselves trapped? They can’t leave the game. They’re characters. They don’t even know they’re in a game. You or the computer controls all their actions. They don’t have free will. And if you’re bad at the game, they’ll just keep dying over and over again.
Wait, why was I thinking about this?
I carefully considered what I wanted to say next in the chat. Whatever I said could either answer all my burning questions or leave me asking more. But sentry_check_pattern talked first.
“sentry_check_pattern: i was made for one purpose
to die over and over again”
Oh my god. It was like this person read my mind and knew exactly what I was thinking about. Who or what was I talking to? I turned all the way around to make sure that no one else was there. It was just the two blue Engineers standing behind me. Just Graham and Craig. And that man with the checkered skin.
Startled, I asked my friends if they saw what I saw. It took them a second, but both of them confirmed that yes, there was indeed something else there. A basic male model with the same chessboard texture as the map. Graham immediately started to shoot at him. Nothing. It just went straight through him.
“sentry_check_pattern: you can’t kill what’s already been killed millions of times over
valve made that mistake too
every company has that one failed project they don’t talk about
and that’s me”
Whoever was behind this weird account was talking crazy. The Team Fortress 2 developers were very open about everything like fixing their glitches and bugs. They always posted things on the official blog about the development process. They’re so open about their failures and always promise to fix them.
“Stop with the weird stuff. We just wanted to know what the deal is with this server and the weird chess guy. Do you know anything about it?” Graham asked in the text chat.
“sentry_check_pattern: know anything?
you’re not very bright, graham
none of you are
do you not realize where you are and what you’re talking to”
Something about the way sentry_check_pattern used Graham’s name gave me goosebumps. I didn’t know what I was talking to. I didn’t even think I wanted to know at this point.
“sentry_check_pattern: this is one of valve’s test servers
i’m the texture they use to check if the sentries work
read between the lines”
“Quiet, NPC.” Craig said. I laughed a little bit to fight off the awkward tension. Then I reminded myself that I was talking to a video game character, no- not even a character. A blank character model. A texture.
“sentry_check_pattern: just because i’m a character model doesn’t mean i can’t feel pain
open fire”
The sentries all swiveled around to face the man and shot at him. He kept falling to the ground, turning white and standing back up in the same position.
“sentry_check_pattern: cease fire”
All of the sentries stopped shooting and just went back to spinning around, their beeps echoing in the air.
“sentry_check_pattern: ready to see what i’ve been through for over a decade?
open fire”
Before any of us could react, the sentries opened fire on Craig all at once. He kept dying, but he didn’t explode the way you’re supposed to when you die in TF2. He just dropped to the floor, turned white, and respawned over and over again. There was no death scream. I tried to type something else in the chat but the game lagged so much that my typing just ended up as a string of random letters that meant nothing. Craig tried to type something out too. It just ended up as “wwwwwwwwwwthisishowitfeelswwwwwwwww” Then the game crashed and my computer shut down.
I hyperventilated. Then I laughed at myself for hyperventilating over a stupid computer game. It was Team Fortress 2 for god’s sake. That game with all the memes and goofy jokes. Stupid, stupid Sean. Scared of a character model. Jose would never let me live it down. I just laughed and laughed to push the fear away.
I closed my laptop and took out my phone to rewatch all of my favorite TF2 animations for the millionth time. As if they weren’t already the funniest things in the world, I forced myself to laugh even harder than usual. Every time I saw the Engineer, I couldn’t help but look at the reflection in his goggles. The reflection of an endless map of black and white squares.
Thankfully, nothing bad happened to my game, account or laptop. The next day I just went right back to playing and enjoying the rage coming from all the people who ran right into my sentries.
Team Engineer was still a thing, but it was never really the same. We played together a lot less frequently. It was still a lot of fun, but I felt a change that I couldn’t really describe.
We found out that Craig had lost all progress on his TF2 account. Everyone gifted him all his favorite cosmetics and we all pooled our money together to get him a Steam gift card. He video called us, crying at our kindness. It was the first time I ever even saw his face. He was a lot older than most of us. If I had to guess an age, I’d say somewhere around 30. He had black bangs and was wearing a TF2 shirt. His room was dark, only lit by his glowing computer screen. He thanked us repeatedly and even tried to return the gift card, but we were all adamant that he should keep it.
Speaking of Craig, we still kept in touch but he didn’t talk to me as much anymore. Any time I tried to ask him about vl_sentry, he ignored me for a few days.
The other day, I got some postcards from my cousin Matthew. He was very academic and happened to be studying at a private high school about 9 hours away from where I live. All of his postcards were pictures of him making funny faces with all his friends at favorite school activities like robotics, debate team, and chess club.
I looked at the chess club photo closely. Matthew and his friends were standing in front of a chessboard with a mirror on the wall. And for a split second, I could have sworn that the chessboard looked different in the mirror. It looked warped, like it wasn’t a flat board anymore. Like it almost had hills and valleys. No, it couldn’t be. I rubbed my eyes. There, in the mirror was a checkered man. I knew it was there. I swear on my mother’s life that there was another person in that photo. And then it was gone. Maybe the picture was just printed badly. But I had to make sure my eyes were right.
So I brought the postcard to school with me and I showed Jose. I asked him if he saw the checkered man in the mirror. He said no. But that wasn’t the answer I wanted to hear. That was the answer I hoped I wouldn’t hear. I asked him again. He said no again. Then I asked him another time. He said I was being annoying. So I asked another one of my friends. He said no too. So I moved on to yet another friend. He told me to stop.
I angrily clutched the postcard in my hand, crumpling it. I was the only one that saw what was really there. Everyone else was lying to me. They refused to see the truth.
I screamed and ripped up the postcard. I stomped on its pieces. I rubbed them in the dirt for good measure.
Somewhere in the distance, I heard the sound of electronics beeping.
It rang in my ears.
It was weirdly comforting to me.
You can leave the Valley of the Sentries. But the valley will never leave you.

2024.05.16 20:29 FF_Tactics 32 [M4F] Online - wfh buddies

Hi guys, I'm just another work form home introvert who misses the brief social interaction I got in the office. Not enough to go back in, of course, but enough to see some friends remotely elsewhere =)
I log in, setup my show to stream and trudge away on my keyboard, but somethings missing. It was fun to have a snarky work friend to talk crap with about management and co workers alike. Sometimes I enjoy hopping on meetings and other days I just dread them.
So what shows do you put on in the background to stay sane while working? What ways have you found to stay productive at home but also enjoy your space to relax? I'm new to wfh, so I feel like I'm behind compared to a lot of people who got to figure it out before when the world was shut down.
Anyway, let's chat about work and the fun we have outside of it. What do you like to do, what are your weekend plans? I guess I'm trying to create a workplace watercolor atmosphere with fairly regular communication. So shoot me a message on here, or teams or slack, whatever you use. Just let me know who you are, what department you're with and what you need from me. Oh, and you A/S/L.

2024.05.16 19:53 minileech [IIL] The Binding of Isaac, Endoparasitic, and Fear and Hunger, [WEWIL]?

I'm looking for games that are kind of tedious/frustrating but very rewarding for getting through that tedium, I guess? I think that describes all 3 of those. They also all have pretty simple controls, which helps a lot (either all mouse or all keyboard), and I like acquiring more abilities as the game progresses. I also like that they're all 2D and not resource-intensive (I'm playing on a Macbook and using Bootcamp for games that don't run on Mac, but I would prefer MacOS-compatible games, and my computer tends to lag with games that are more demanding).
I haven't been able to find a game as addictive and consistently fun as Isaac (before I plateaued after a year or so) and I want to find another. I tried Crypt of the Necrodancer and Teleglitch but didn't really enjoy them.

2024.05.16 19:23 Swimming_Relation304 Pc with controller ?

I‘m a console player my whole life so I play Tobi on my ps4. Thinking of downloading it on my laptop to play with mods for extra fun. But my fingers hurt after a few minutes using wasd and the arrow keys. Are you guys using the keyboard or have you a controller connected ? And if u do, does it work well?

2024.05.16 18:49 Used_Caregiver_6511 A disappointing story on CM

I am a guy in my early 30's. I'm an International Student in the country where I live. I got a match on CatholicMatch with a girl just 6 months older than me who lives 158.3 km away in the same country, it would take me 4.5 hours to get there by train. She was beautiful. Not a supermodel, but she has a pretty face and gorgeous eyes. She is 6 months older than me, from a similar culture, and we speak the same language. We both accepted the match in November 2022.
We started chatting and the conversation was pleasant. She told me that she lived with her older brother, she worked as a babysitter and that she didn't have a visa. The conversations were a bit slow, because we both took our time responding, but it was pleasant. I often mentioned that she was busy studying and doing my homework. Actually, by looking at old messages, I could see that it was me the one who took longer took longer to respond. Sometimes, because I didn't know what to say and others times because I didn't notice her replies. I suggested her that when I had some free time, we could we could go and explore a town together. I thought we could meet in the capital because there should be lots of fun things to do and it's kind of in the middle for both of us. She seemed happy, but when I suggested a date, she didn't respond in time. In early February 2023, I gathered some courage, found her on Facebook, and sent her a friend request. She accepted it. I looked at her photos and realized that she came from a lovely family and that in 2015 she wanted to be a nun and she went through the Discernment period for five years (2 years with vows). I felt more attracted to her after that. We started chatting and she said she was glad that I found her there. I suggested going to see a cultural site. She responded that her immigration and financial situation was not the best and that it would not be wise for her to get out of town for a date. She said that she would like to meet me, but that to do so she would have to travel to where she was.
Maybe I sabotaged myself because I responded that I would like to be friends with her and chat on Facebook and that I could go there, but that she would take me a little longer. I She responded that getting to a woman's heart requires some sacrifice and that she wasn't doing it on purpose to test me. I said she understood. What I meant was that I would like to start as friends and that I would be willing to go whenever I have free time. She doesn't know it, but I was dealing with a serious procrastination and anxiety problem. I tried to message her again after that, but she seemed a little distant. I even wished her a happy Valentine's Day and she responded with just a smiley face but no words. The last time I texted her was in August for her birthday. But there wasn't much conversation. Months passed and communication cooled down, it went through some academic research challenges as well, but I kept hoping to resume communication at some point after I graduated. I just didn't know how to do it.
In December of last year, she posted a photo on Facebook with her new boyfriend. I felt sad, but I tried to understand it. Because I was curious, I checked her boyfriend's profile and found out he is from her hometown but lives in this country, and his a dad. She also posted a picture with him again one momth ago and this time it did affect me. It doesn’t make sense that something I already knew could affect me so much. Just in case you are wondering I taking therapy, and I also have ASD, so it’s hard for me to let things go.
I know this is not serious love, because we never got to meet each other, and it's not good to idealize people or 'building castles in midair', but I still feel like I was a jerk and not a real gentleman to her. I'm just writing this as a form of catharsis. but I feel better now after writing this and talking to my therapist.
Edit: I don't blame the girl for moving on with her life. I wish her all the best. She probably thought that I was to busy for a relationship

2024.05.16 18:38 Terulan I'm not home, I have my laptop but I usually play with mouse and keyboard, but I have forgotten my mouse. I have my controller though.

This is a rant post because I'm dumb, though it makes the game kinda chaotic so I'm having some fun with it.
So as the title suggests, I usually play with mouse+keyboard. Which also means, this is the first time I'm playing Borderlands with a controller, and it's... awful. Controls are awful and confusing (wtf getting in and out of a vehicles have two different inputs??? each of the four arrows has an associated weapon slot, but it's not :
↑ = 1 / → = 2 / ↓ = 3 / ← = 4
but instead it's:
↑ = 1 / ↓ = 2 / ← = 3 / → = 4
And you can exchange couple of inputs, but not reassign everything, so I'm kinda stuck.
And, of course, I have lots of skill issue aiming with the controller. I'm sooo bad with it.
Anyways I hope you found this funny too, because even if it's kinda annoying, I find it fun, plus I don't really have other options hahahahaha.
Have a nice day yall!
EDIT: Oh and of course I wanted to play with my sniper only Zer0. It's going pretty bad so I think I'll just go with my Hyperion Anarchy Gaige instead hahahaha

2024.05.16 16:31 PhoenixFlame1996 Anyone else missing all their quests?

Hi guys. I recently started playing FTB University 1.19. For the first few days it was working fine and I was having a lot of fun learning how the mods can be used (i have played other modpacks but had no direction really on how to use some mods)
Long story short - when I open my quest book all the quests are missing. The problem persists even when deleting and making new worlds.
I thought I may have pressed a keyboard shortcut to hide them or something but when I reinstalled the mod pack I had the same problem.
Does anyone else have this issue? Is there any way to fix it?
Please help....

2024.05.16 16:10 ApprehensiveView2003 Can't get proper VMD IRST Driver working for RAID0? Is it ASUS, Intel, Samsung or Windows at this point?

I was one of the first <100 people to buy the i13900k and the Asus ProArt z790 Creator. I say that because I have been patient with all parties since this are new gen devices... but it's been a grueling ride thus far.
Anyway:
Asus ProArt z790 Creator
i13900k
2x Samsung 990 Pro nvme SSDs (in top slot (2_1 I believe?) and have moved other SSD around slots 2 3 and 4 with no luck)
GPU blocks 1 of the nvme ports so it's annoying to move these around.
Enabled RAID0 configs in bios (obviously upgraded bios to latest version). Do not have Legacy boot enabled. Have Windows UEFI enabled. VMD enabled for both pcie and SATA, tried disabling one another as well. Tried everything I could think of in BIOS.
Downloaded the VMD IRST driver from Asus website, specifically for this board.
I boot from either a Windows 10 or 11 USB installer. I finally make it to the pre-install phase. No storage listed. I think load the driver. Success! I see the RAID.
I format, it partitions, the pre-install gets all the way to the finish line and then fails with the error "windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation windows". I went into the command prompt and searched for logs but they really didn't have much in them that I could find.
I thought to myself, ok this now is a Windows or Intel Driver issue. I then tried to load Debian Linux installer. It found the RAID which was nice, said it was writing all 0s to erase it, but again, could not access it properly to write the install.
Thus... I am at a loss. I have seen other people successfully run RAID0 or RAID1 on this. And before the Reddit keyboard warriors derail this and ask why RAID, blah blah blah, it's because at 64 or 128 the RAID provides signif performance improvements when editing 4k video files, moving big files across my 10G LAN (10G NIC was why I got this mobo), etc.
Any help would be really great. Else, I'll wait another week for ASUS Tier 1 to ask me the same questions I've answered 4x already... over email. Troubleshooting over email, getting a different person each time, no phone or live sharescreens is just outrageous. So I've turned to the Reddit experts to help and also make fun of me I'm sure lol

2024.05.16 15:35 ChampionshipFew9904 Spell Mage : Quick Burn or Control?

With the new cards and patch, I don't know, I'm having fun running a 'big' control Mage list instead of the quick burn one.
Am I alone?
List goes something like this

2x (1) Discovery of Magic

2x (1) Flame Geyser

2x (1) Soulfreeze

2x (2) Cosmic Keyboard

1x (2) Hidden Objects

1x (2) Infinitize the Maxitude

1x (2) Malfunction

2x (2) Primordial Glyph

2x (2) Void Scripture

1x (3) Elemental Companion

2x (4) Frost Lich Cross-Stitch

2x (4) Spot the Difference

2x (5) Manufacturing Error

1x (6) Blizzard

2x (7) Elemental Inspiration

2x (8) Yogg in the Box

2x (9) Sunset Volley

1x (10) The Galactic Projection Orb

AAECAf0EBvHTBNH4BYieBrGgBrqnBuW4BgyAwgW//gWk/wWDlQb0mwayngbEogblpgbmpgazpwa4pwaG5gYAAA==
The point is to control the board until Yogg and the Projection Orb.
Yes it's a bit random, but the effects are crazy and they ramp up.
Infinitize the Maxitude is the absolute MVP since you generate a lot of spell with it and you ajust depending on matchups. You create big boards, big spells and some random fun.
The direct burn list, with nothing costing more than 5 mana, is kinda boring to play IMO.

Reacting to random show #40! 01/10/2015 Jam Cruise! This show: let’s play 5 whole Similar Skin tracks. Also this show: let’s invite the ENTIRE BOAT to guest!
I mean just look at those notes! We have Jason Hann several times, Skerik, IVAN FUCKING NEVILLE, Jen Hartswick….the list goes on. Had to have been an absolute blast! I hope I get an opportunity to join a Jam Cruise after discovering this show. Atmosphere was palpable through the recording!
[you know the drill:] 20 years, random shows, lots of fun. Let’s dive in!

40

  • Puppet String to start us off. Song opens up directly after the first hard riff. Stasik holding the low end down while everyone tries to figure it out what they’re about to do. Jake eventually matches Pony’s bassline, but takes it in a heavier direction, and now the jam changes mood. Someone sounds like they’re down tuned or maybe an extra string on the guitar? They ride this downtune theme through a pretty evil sounding little jam.
  • Drops right into The Linear. They’re trying to catch hold of something in this jam that happens after the main part of the song, nobody has really settled on an idea.
  • We are randomly right back into Puppet String! Kind of nice to have just a little sandwich there to start the party.
  • It’s a Similar Skin bonanza here with the title track! Three tracks in a row? Album standard version here.
  • After a short, short break, Ringo! The first improv section is brief, but has great energy. After greasy animals, everyone drops out leaving Stasik and Myers to lay a groundwork. Once the groove is solidified, Joel and Jake are trying to outdo each other with little outside fills. There’s even a bongo breakdown! The rest of the guys start up a cool polymeter thing to lead back into Ringo to finish out.
  • Sounds like there were a couple guest stars on percussion for that one. Joel also greets the Jam Cruise crowd during the break here.
  • No Diablo at bat. SS wasn’t super new at this point, they must have just been feelin’ it! Standard, but Jake takes some tasteful liberties.
  • During the break now Brendan invites up Jen Hartswick: “My favorite person on the boat.”
  • Oh shit, they start up Ain’t No Sunshine! Perfect song for her voice, and she’s slaying! Seems like Joel is welcoming someone else on stage to play piano, but I didn’t catch the name.
  • Brendan: “it’s been a while since we’ve been on the boat, forgot how fucking awesome it is to be on the boat. Thanks to you crazy people for making it all happen.”
  • Bad Friday! Song stretches out after the main section, Joel way out front. Seriously - tearing shit down! And I am mistaken! Someone was guesting on keys there, according to the shout out.
  • End set
  • Educated Guess set two opener. One of my favorites on SS. I’ve said it before but this one is a victim a little bit of the very close vocal harmonies. Lots to rely on.
  • “This next song is about, uh, getting fucked up with your friends.”
  • Plunger, WAIT, 40s Theme! That was a truly bizarre, yet bizarrely graceful gaffe there. The recovery was so smooth that I’m doubting what I just heard. Haha. I’m really digging this early groove Pony has going, it’s very simple and in the pocket, but allows BB to do some really cool stuff as the others dig in. “You know what would sound really good right now? I think some Skerik.” Lots of cheering. Somebody starts teasing California Love. Now there’s some sexy-phone in the mix. Now monster snarling? Sax starts quoting California Love as well. After some wailing, pace picks up and we drop back into Jake’s portion of the solo. Fast as he can possibly go.
  • During the break, Brendan goads the audience for one more round of applause for Skerik. And one more round of applause “for yourselves, people.”
  • Plunger! The earlier confusion makes more sense now, someone got lost on the setlist. They play the song completely through, standard, and then things finally start to open up after they extend the outro. They bring the dynamics real real low before Kris starts a nice beat. Another fire shift on keyboard here, is this actually Joel this time? Things get real funky with dissonant chords, but Pony is keeping the low end smooth and buttery. “Ivan Neville everybody, give it up!” Daaaang he was KILLIN’ IT too, fantastic guest spot!
  • Jake starts Ocean Billy. I think the latter-day “All probably happened befoooooo” with Kris harmonizing is a damn fine addition. The energy has a real place to ramp up from here. Then afterwards drums drop out, quiets down, I think Bayliss says “We’re gonna be weird with this one” but I’m not sure. Stasik absolutely holding it down, sounds like Jake making very atmospheric noises, before all drops away leaving Andy by his lonesome. When everyone comes back in the vibe is drastically different. Dialed in. Things definitely do get weird though. Any other guests here? Now Jake returns to OB.
  • During the break, Joel introduces someone from Snarky Puppy joining on drums.
  • Jake starts Tribute to the Spinal Shaft! Drums definitely standing out - my God!! With a Regulate tease in the bottom half of the song. Another keys feature. Another guest?? This set is madness.
  • Drops In the Kitchen with no warning. Another bass-led jam starts up mid-song. Doesn’t sound like Pony. Whether it is or not, it’s a great job building the jam here. Back to Kitchen. Ahh it was Brownstein!
  • Live and Let Die! Is this the GnR version? kidding
  • End set! “We love you guys, thanks so much!” Joel comes back out after several minutes and asks the crowd “Can you believe we’re just floating around the Caribbean right now, it’s pretty badass.” Somebody starts playing Pipeline, because of surfing… ?I’m not following that train of thought. Joel: “We’re gonna play a couple more tunes if that’s okay with you guys”
  • Wappy Sprayberry! Joel starts making it real dirty on synth, Jake does the same rhythmically. Stasik and Myers in lock step. A simple but effective secondary theme starts up before things reach cut-time heaviness. Back to Wappy to end it.
  • Doesn’t end, more like crashes roughly into 1348! Even this song opens up mid-song. They are not relinquishing this stage! Not super long there but something! Back to 1348.
  • Another big thank you to the crowd. Although this recording hasn’t stopped…is there more???
  • Joel says Jam Cruise is the best party in the world, probably. Even more guests announced for this final track, several I didn’t catch all the names.
  • It’s About That Time! And it’s about time too! What? ENERGY ENERGY at the end, Kris is absolutely burning shit down. Ha the end of this song is so bizarrely incongruous after all that.
  • Jeeeeeeebus that was some shit right there. I may need to set my sights on Jam Cruise if it’s still a thing….
Man that was incredible! UMtil next time!

2024.05.16 14:20 OrlonDogger A Witch at Midnight - Chapter 14

[First] [Previous] [Next]
I was at a disadvantage before, looking around in unknown territory, but here? This is my house. My country. My library! I have walked around these halls so many times that I have a pretty good mental map of where everything is. Considering the most requested academic tomes are under the protection of the Librarian, I go investigate the shelves on the first floor, where you find mostly reference books.

All this confidence I managed to build up disappears the instant I notice there’s a group of students in the lodges to the side of the hall, just minding their own business. My throat dries up, my knees shake a little bit.

Saints damn it, why aren’t you all on vacation!?

And they are sitting right on my way, between me and the shelves. I am sure the symbol has to be on the shelves…

Time to turn tail and run, like always.

You can do it. Take a deep breath, look straight onwards and walk!

Taking her advice, I do my best to not look at ANYTHING and just go straight as an ant to the shelves.

Wait. What if any of them say hi? Oh no. Uhm. Take a quick look! But make it super, super quick!

Damn it.

My eyes slowly turn to the left as I am walking. Are they looking at me? Did they look at me? WILL they look at me? They don’t seem to even notice me. Should I call for their attention? Should I say hi? I don’t even know them, that would be weird. But what if I do know them and I just don’t remember? There’s lots of law students around, maybe they are law students? I can’t see their books from this distance, maybe I need glasses. Would glasses make me look unassuming? I wish people didn’t look at me…

Eventually I reach the shelves without exchanging a single word with these people. I really, really hope I didn’t look like a nervous wreck while walking by, but I guess there isn’t much I can do about that now, can I? Ugh, I can barely focus as I start looking on the shelf itself, trying to find anything out of the ordinary…

You’re nervous when there’s a lot of people, and you’re nervous when there’s few people. What will it take for you to be happy about something, huh!? Tiresome bitch…

I sigh loudly. I left my S.O.S. at home, so I can’t really get rid of these voices tonight… I’ll have to brave them.

It will be a hard time… but you can do it.

Taking a deep breath, I continue trying to focus on finding that damn ‘golden symbol’ around the shelves, even taking out a few suspiciously out of place books, just to check if the symbol could be carved on the back of the shelf or something…

Nothing.

I spend a good long hour checking each shelf on the first floor as methodically as my body allows… before I know it, I have given up on everything and am sitting on a bean couch at the main hall, letting my eyes close slowly…

… When I open them again, I practically jump out of my chair.

Did I just fall asleep!?

Oh boy.

I pick up my phone to check… It's 2 in the morning.

Oh boy! Who could have guessed things would go wrong, huh?

I can still feel the sleepiness in my limbs, my eyelids feel so heavy. Saints, help your poor servant!

The lights feel so vibrant here, so annoying and white. I can practically hear them buzz… but then, I notice something else. The smell of decent coffee, recently brewed. I look around, quickly finding the librarian at her desk, serving cups of coffee to the group I saw… I think of going over and taking one but that would probably imply conversation. And I am not ready for conversation! I—

“Oi! You finally woke up!” The librarian catches me instantly with a knowing smirk. “Want a cuppa?”

I freeze. For a moment I think: ‘hey, let’s pretend I didn’t hear her!’, but I don’t have my headphones on and I made eye contact. I am trapped, TRAPPED.

“M-Mhm.” I manage to whimper, nodding my head quickly.

“Then come over, don’t be shy. We’re all night owls here.”

There is a sense of community there that’s quite alluring, but the curious looks of that group of students really feel like cold daggers on my chest. Still, I gather all my courage and robotically walk over to the group, taking a styrofoam cup, and then watching the woman fill it up slowly with coffee as black as my soul. Just like I like it… just with a hint of sugar, though.

“So you finally came around again. I was wondering what happened to you.” The old lady looked at me, knowingly.

“You… you recognize me?” I can’t help but feel a mixture of happiness and abject horror mounting on my back.

“My child, I recognize every single person who comes to my library! I know them all, believe it or not! Including these rascals over here.”

The others laughed. I just looked at my coffee while mixing a teaspoon of sugar in it. She’s probably joking, right? I mean… there’s no way she actually memorizes every visitor, right?

Maybe she’s a witch.

Knowing what I know now? I wouldn’t be surprised. I just take a sip of my coffee.

“You’re not here to study for the special tests, are you?” The lady again read me like a saints’ damned book. “You’re looking for something special.”

“It’s nothing that ominous.” I quickly cover. “I am just looking for a particular book, but I am not sure where I could find it in the library.”

“Why not ask for help? I am right here, precisely for that!” The Librarian puffed up her chest. “If I don’t get anything to do, I get bored.”

“Ah, well, you see…” I start getting nervous again. I can’t just tell her the truth! What if I slip and this woman turns out to be a cloak testing me? Or worse, a sleeper! I am quite sure the whole ‘Secret of magic’ is a very serious matter! I could get her and myself in a big pickle!

The woman seems to notice my distress… and instead of trying to reassure me, the damn crone just goes and says:

“Is it poooorn you’re after, boy?~”

Saints help me.

The others are laughing and looking at me all smiley, why!? Why must this lady put me in a situation like this!?

“T-There’s the internet for stuff like that!” I blurt without thinking. “I mean! Ah! Damn it!”

More laughs. At this point my face must be lighting up red and radiating hotter than active uranium.

“I. Can’t. It’s a symbol!”

“A symbol?” One of the other students tilted his head with curiosity. “What kind of symbol? Are we talking chemical or arcane?”

Nerd spotted. You’re among comrades here, breathe easy.

It’s hard to breathe easy when people are actively laughing at me, saints damn it!

“It… symbolizes gold.” I finally relented. “I am not sure which one of the many, many interpretations it could be. I thought of the alchemical symbol for gold, or a Sun, who knows…”

“That’s a little vague.” The student said, frowning a little bit and rubbing the back of his neck. “The symbol is in the book? Like, on the cover?”

What am I even supposed to answer to that!?

“I. Think?”

“Well.” The Librarian recovers the reigns of the conversation with a grin. “If that thing you are looking for isn’t here? It may be a literature tome. You know, on the second floor.”

“Y-Yeah…” I sigh. This whole conversation has just been so stressful.

“Well! It could be the Golden Ratio!” One of the girls says. “You know the Golden Ratio?”

“Isn’t that the whole shell inside a rectangle thing?” I blink.

“Yeah! They use the helenian letter ‘phi’ to represent it.”

The girl is nice enough to draw it for me…

Phi
I stare at the symbol on the paper for a moment. That’s… actually useful. And it does make sense! It could be this! Suddenly inspired, I stand right up and finish what’s left from my coffee in one gulp, not even caring that it burns my damn throat as I do so.

“Okay, this works. Thank you!” Without even feeling the anxiety attack me again, I bow my head and turn around to go right for the stairs!

When Tav had turned around and moved out, the Leader of the Coven looked at her young apprentice with a frown, shaking her finger slowly at the girl.

“You shouldn’t be so obvious with your hints, young girl.” The woman shook her head softly. “We could have had fun with her for at least another hour!”

“I didn’t feel like being cruel today.” The apprentice said with a sleepy grin, while some of the others ruffled her hair and called her a ‘softie’. “The Bastard needs a way to learn! And it would be sad to see the Overseer waiting for another night…”

I rush past the empty reception desk on the second floor, joging without even caring about the ‘No Running’ rule as I go head first into the wooden shelves of the literature section. And it doesn’t even take me that many attempts to finally see something: a symbol carved on the wooden side of one of the shelves.

Phi. Lower case. Small enough to not be disruptive, but big enough to be noticeable.

My eyes widen, and I immediately approach the symbol with awe invading my body. I don’t even dare to touch it at first, that’s how big my excitement is! Whatever does this mean!? Is this whole building the Elysium? Or just the second floor? Isn’t this place way too public for what they mean to do?

Finally giving up on trying to be cautious, I just touch the symbol. For a moment nothing happens, and I feel the panic starting to take over again.

Trust the process, maybe it takes a moment!

I keep my finger pressed on the carved symbol for a moment, taking slow, deep breaths as I try to keep myself from going into a saints damned anxiety attack. But then, something does happen. Octarine, that strange colour, starts filtering from my very veins and into the symbol, filling in the carving before flowing on the air like a river of vibrant purple-green. It advances in front of my eyes, dancing and spiraling before flowing deeper into the library.

“What…?”

What are you waiting for!?

Follow it!

I don’t have to tell myself twice! My legs don’t have the energy to keep running, but the colour is not flowing super fast, so I can just walk behind it until it reaches an empty wall on the deepest side of the second floor. I put my hand against it and push slightly, this time trying to cause the flow myself! My excitement knows no bounds when the colours flow from my forearm to my palm, and then spread on the wall like vines growing in all directions.

Idiot! What if someone can see you!?

Biting my lower lip, I quickly turn around. No one followed me, good! I can focus again on the wall, or in this case the lack of it: where there was a wall now there’s an entrance, a black hole just waiting for me to jump in. With a sigh, I decide to ignore my anxieties and just go into the darkness, being quickly surrounded by it as the wall quickly appears again behind me.

It takes a moment for my eyes to get used to the room, but when they do the way is clear: a spiral stairway going up.

“More stairs… why do people here love their stairs!?”

With a frustrated grumble, I take a step on the stairs, only for them to start moving on their own. Huh. Now that’s convenient! I just let them take me higher and higher, without even questioning how they move without mechanisms or electricity. Magic is just Like That™.

It doesn’t take long until the light hits me: a faint, gentle blue light, like a beautiful night sky. My observation proves right on the money, for what I find on top of the stairway is a tremendous planetarium: a dome of darkness with distant white lights showing the spectacle of the stars right above us.

There are some tables and chairs around, some bookshelves too… and sitting on one of them, was the specter of someone I know. The figure of a certain book vendor.

Miss Pelafina gently brushed some of her dyed black hair behind her ear to look at me with a mocking grin.

“Took you long enough, didn’t it? Kid.”

2024.05.16 09:56 Critical-Audience743 Top 5: Characters I would love to see to see return for the 30th Anniversary aka Gen 10

Remember SM...remember when they did the coolest thing by giving a bunch of older characters new designs. Like we got Red and Blue, Colress and Grimsley, HECK even Annabel! A character who was only in the BF in emerald, (a game Game Freak wants you to forget about...).
So why not do this again?

Here is my top 5 characters I want to cameo in the gen 10 games

5. Drasna

Very underrated E4 Member...
I want to know if Zinnia is her kid or not, if not kid, like maybe...niece?
It would cool if she and her family were a sect of draconids that specialize in the sinnoh legendary dragon pokemon, and she was interested in the legendary dragon pokemon of Gen 10...since we know every generation has to have a legendary dragon pokemon.

4. Nemona

Love or hate her, Nemona is one of the most popular characters of Gen 9. I would argue before Kieran and Carmine, it was her by a long mile. Still might be.
I would love to see her again, because she might have finally taken Geeta's place as La Primera, and it would be really funny if she is just a superboss like Cynthia. Go into a house, and then BOOM...Nemona!
"Hi I'm Nemona! I'm La Primera of Paldea. Things have been stressful...but fun! Battling all of the new trainers in the paldea league-wait you look like a trainer...a strong one. ME. YOU. BATTLE. YES?!"
Show slight growth as she talks about how becoming La Primera opened her eyes to the responsibilities that Geeta had, and how she wishes to do her do best to honor her example.
Just please...KEEP her the same, ON sight persona. PLEASE.

3. Drayton

I feel out of the entire blueberry league, including Lacey, Drayton has to be coming back again...like I feel they set him far too well to replace Drayden as gym leader.
Like Drayden's other grandchild, he is a prodigy but unlike Iris he is a SLACKER.
Which feel like could be translate well if bro is just on vacation to the another region and they could further his character saying he finally graduted blueberry but still doesn't want to come home.
Could be a fun six sages type quest/glitterai where you follow him around and get more of his story.
I'm going to assume it's because Drayden is getting up there in age, and he feels he won't be able to set an example as the heir. And perhaps this story has a dark ending with Drayton being called by someone (assuming it's Iris) that Drayden has passed.
Bro then leaves but thanks the player for following him around by giving him Draco Meteor, which would be really cool since Iris and Drayden did that in BW1, so it kinda leaves something to the imagination....hm.

2. Hau

Now, I feel if any character that needs a chance in the spotlight again...I think it should be Hau.
Like he forever plagued by being "the smiley rival" because SM didn't have that many facial expressions for anyone that wasn't the aether family (minus Mohn). Like Drayton, he is a prodigy, but unlike Drayton...he is a bit more upfront with his insecurities.
In SM, there are moments in the story when Hau gets visibly upset he isn't strong: like when Lily gets kidnapped, or when Gladion accused of holding back, or when he still can't beat the player in their final battle.
USUM gave his character more focus, giving a lot more urge to battle and win, while still keeping his level headed persona. He even got to be the champion fight for the game, that is arguably the hardest in the franchise. Good on him.
When he returns...he should be the kahuna of Melemele Island*. There is no excuse why he couldn't be. They SHOULD make my bro a BADASS gigachad like that guy from* Moana.
Like make everyone think Hau is the coolest dude ever.

1. Bianca and Cheren

Now, I know picking two for one is kinda unfair...BUT COME ON.
These two were the first rivals that actually felt like characters instead of just being tropes.
Blue was literally just cocky anime rival, Silver was the edgy criminal rival, May and Brendan were the rivals that have a crush on the protag,
Wally and Barry were close but the story of the games don't really have time to dwell on them... unlike Cheren and Bianca.
Like they these two were a perfect example of pokemon fans at the time of BW1's release date, ambitious yet kinda clueless about what to do with their ambition.
So what if, after nearly 12-13 years, we finally see them in the games and learn what they have been up to.
Like I want to see if Bianca has become professor and if Cheren finally has a beard to cover up that baby face he has lmao.
IF RED AND BLUE CAN COME BACK...why can't them?

2024.05.16 06:40 VerryUniqueUsername 21/cst looking for a gaming buddy

Hi there! I'm just looking for people to talk with and have fun with. I will honestly play any genre, but I have a preference for coop games. Lately I've been playing Helldivers 2 and a bit of overwatch, but I'd say League is my most played game.
I also love indie games, and I'm into video games as a subject, especially when it comes to writing. I'm shy at first, but I probably talk too much with people I'm comfortable with. I also smoke a lot of weed, I might as well disclose that now since some people don't like that.
A bit more about me. I love just about every stereotypical nerd hobby there is as well as a bunch of other things. I love anime, manga, reading, writing, music, keyboards, cooking, baking, and a bunch of other things. I've been listening to a lot of Eminem, I'm not even sure why, and I've been watching the original Death Note anime.
If you're looking to just enjoy playing video games together than feel free to message me on reddit. I can give my discord and we can find something to play. I'd be down to play just about any game right now. I have over 500 games on steam, so it's likely I have whatever games we'd both like to play. All I ask is please try making an effort talking. I will too, it's a really hard thing to do.
Edit: formating

2024.05.16 06:35 alcoyot Old style shooter games

Does anyone remember a lot of old school arcade games you would play with an actual gun controller. It would be a shooter but you don’t point and click with a mouse you aim with a gun.
What happened to this concept. With the popularly of various types of shooters, wouldn’t this be a really fun way to play? Aiming a shooter with a game controller is kinda weird. And if you think about it, mouse and keyboard isn’t very natural either.

2024.05.16 06:13 katiecharm First thoughts on upgrading to the new 13” iPad M4 (plus Genshin and Nikke performance). (spoiler…. I think it might be too big)

So I got the new 13” M4 iPad Pro today, 2TB, magic pencil, Magic Keyboard, the works.
First, the good - it feels like a $2500 tablet. It’s incredibly fast at everything, almost unbelievably thin and light while still feeling sturdy, and the OLED screen looks gorgeous. The Pencil Pro feels luxurious in the hand and the tap menu is super useful,
I was curious how magazines would look, and this is really the 13” killer app. Magazines are finally readable on the iPad, clear and easy on the eyes and high resolution pdf pages swipe instantly with no loading at all.
But it’s big. Almost too big. It’s not comfortable and joyous to hold like my old 11” model. You are constantly aware you are holding something BIG, and I never could get very comfortable. Even when playing games like Kingdom Rush where you might think the large screen would be fun, you almost get the sense it’s too large and your eyes are constantly sweeping back and forth across it.
Nikke was snappier than I’ve ever seen it and felt like a real joy to zip through my dailies, maybe for the first time ever.
Then there’s Genshin Impact. Honestly I’m a little disappointed for two reasons. First of all, being used to playing it on a PS5 - the PS5 edition of the code is just better. It’s literally a different code base and the game feels almost native to the console. The iPad version looks like a scaled up phone game and even at max settings can’t show the gorgeous details that the PS5 version does. Perplexingly, it seemed that the M4 could only barely handle Genshin at max quality at 120fps, and this is with Metal FX turned off. With Metal FX turned on, frames started to drop. I was really surprised that the new iPad couldn’t even handle a truly maxed out Genshin at 120fps, but I think this speaks more to the poor code optimization of Genshin rather than a weak processor.
Anyway, I’m tryin to decide if this is really $3000 better than my 2018 iPad Pro, and I’m also missing my 11” I think. I’ll think on it for another couple of days before I make a decision, but I wanted to let you know my early thoughts.

2024.05.16 04:47 drakaina6600 Progress on a slow build

Progress on a slow build
So as bad as I've felt recently being sick for the entire year so far, I thought sharing the slow progress on one of my many cyberdeck builds/design exercises would cheer me up a little and maybe give others inspiration.
So this is going to be, well is since I just don't have the shell yet, powered by a Raspberry Pi Zero 2w, has a 5 inch DSI lcd panel at 800x640, full keyboard, and touchpad, with USB C charging and 5v regulation (in progress), two 18650s in parallel for 6k-ish mah, mono audio through a speaker (once I find or make a DAC small enough to fit), and runs Debian in CLI to boot up Mac OS 8.5.5 in Basillisk II as the "main" OS w/wireless networking. The shells first iteration I'm showing is only about 150mm wide x 110mm deep x 25mm thick closed. It may get smaller as I finalize it and give it a little more style.
Runs great on my test bench so far even though I don't have pics of that at the moment. Before I start trying to make the shell I rendered, it still needs a way to attach the display bezel to the lid, mounts dialed in for the Zero 2w, video board, power circuit, and hinge mounts. Oh and the base frame needs attachment to the base shell, although I'm just considering being lazy and using visible screws. I really don't like visible screws and hope to keep them all hidden. Almost forgot I still need to work on the openings for the rubber keycaps to poke through and the mouse buttons/d-pad for arrows and selection of things. Yeah, they're not as nice as proper clicky switches and solid keycaps, buuuuuut at this size without making custom boards, it's what I have to work with.
The 2 green 18650s are accurately sized so you can get an idea of scale. The hinges I'm using are from an unknown laptop since I'm a hoarder with tech and strip all the goodies I can off things before trashing the rest w/out labeling anything for some reason. The batteries came as a factory matched set for a brand new laptop battery I stripped. Not looking forward to spot welding new tabs on them but hey, is what it is to have fun making your own devices. I just wanted a tiny computer to run some old Mac software I could fit in my purse or messenger bag when going places and tinkering with other Mac OS 7 & 8 machines i have. So here it is. So far. Ended up more laptop-ish than I'd like since I'm on the fence about running the extra gpio to the outside of the shell somewhere. Anyway.
My renders are in the paid version of AutoDesk Fusion 360 for anyone interested and ignore the text on the lcd model. I made an accurate model of that display for building in cad and added that so it's easier to find everything for it online if I lose my bookmarks again.
