My grandma has a pristine 2005 Camry with only 52,000 miles on it. She's 95, and doesn't drive it anymore but we use it occasionally to take her shopping and run errands. I was thinking the other day that the timing belt on it is nearly 20 years old at this point and it should probably be changed. I can most likely change it myself as I used to work at a small shop (I still have my engine repair and brakes ASE), and do al ot of DIY mechanics, but I've never actually done a timing belt before-- shop i worked at did exclusively old jeeps--.
So:

Should i replace the belt?
if so what parts should I replace while im there? Planning on getting OEM toyota/oem maufacturer (eg. Koyo, Aisin) any tips on where to source from?

So I'm at the point of analysis paralysis between these two Zero Turns.
I've got about 2 acres, with some hills and uneven areas. I used a Husqvarna lawn tractor for the past several years and it simply couldn't handle the workload. Despite proper care and regular maintenance, I had to continually replace belts, spindles, and other parts. So, durability and reliability are huge.
I understand SCAG is a phenomenal brand, but my concern is that the Liberry Z is the entey-level model. And having looked at models above it, they have a lot more bells and whistles.
Whereas the HD seems to be at a higher end model; plus, the floor board titls up allowing easy access to the top of the deck (for cleaning, and the belt spindles).
Both seem to be consumer-friendly with respect to DIY maintenance (oil changes, filter changes), unless I'm missing something obvious.
Any inputs with hands-on experience with either (or both!) would be appreciated.

2024.05.18 17:24 bigkutta Replacing Garage Door Drive Belt Help

Hey folks. I just DIY's the replacement of a trolley that broke on my garage door track. Was fairly easy to install the new one, but while doing that I noticed that the rubber drive belt is about to go also (2-3 rubber grooves had fallen out, with the belt inside visible). However, upon searching the part I can't seem to find one for the model I have. Are they all fairly standard, and if so, which can i use? My opener is the LiftmasteChamberlain Part No. 41AC075-2A. Garage door opening height is about 7'. Amazon (preferred) has so many 7' belt but i dont want to screw up and get the wrong one. Is there anything to note when changing the belt? I wish i had it today while I was doing the trolley...oh well!
Also, got a lot of grease on my hand from the old trolley and the main shaft. What can i use to grease it up after the trolley/carriage replacement?

Hello guys,
I mean is it safe to leave permanently the key in the lock at all? I’ve seen how doors can be unlocked when a key is left inside. A person or a burglar can insert a thin wire manipulator through the peephole, hook it onto the key, and turn it from the outside.
And just like that, the door is open. It took less than a minute for a burglar to open our front door this way.
So any objections why smart lock could prevent to do the same ?
Update (19.05):
Alright, I decided to upgrade the lock myself, as it should be, instead of arguing here:

The "chastity belt" is made from metal brackets and attached to the main lock body.
Now, it's impossible to drill the smart lock and get access to the inserted key.
Now, to fish the inserted key from outside the door with a wire or anything else, you'd need to be a real Copperfield.

Hi, I just had a quick question for you folk with some leatherwork experience:
I have a Worksharp Knives and Tools sharpener, which takes a 1/2"x12" belt. Some US manufacturers make leather loops/belts for this machine, but being in the UK they are very expensive to have delivered. I have ordered a couple in any case but I was also wondering how achievable it may be to make some of my own. I'm always fairly DIY inclined and have quite a lot of tools from many past projects.

Anyone had a paver patio done lately? Who did you use, and what was the size / cost or cost per sq ft?
We are on a budget and thought about DIY-ing it. Still am but I’m worried we’ll do a bad job with the measurements and ruin it. At the same time I’m seeing costs from some American subreddits for a patio costing $20k, and for that price I think we’ll just literally go touch grass.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. We are new to home reno’s but did successfully do a basement reno with the help of a contractor friend, so we have very mild experience under our belts.

I can feel myself slipping back into uncertainty in regards to my gender, and it occurs to me "am I just lonely?"
Pretty much all of my life, I've never felt a real sense of community. It's a very isolating life I lead, and I've always existed in this paradoxical relationship of always craving a sense of community but never allowing myself/creating the opportunity to get super close with people.
And now as I sit here, spiraling back down into self-doubt and confusion, I can't help but wonder, is it just a lack of proper socialization? Could it be that I just don't have anything to build off of because the amount of people I see and have any meaningful interaction with in a day probably averages less than one?

While I was driving the battery light came on. Basically my serpentine belt broke off.
I did not see the temp change so there was no overheating of my car. I drove home which was less than 5 minutes of a drive.
The belt was replaced right away, it looked like a lasso on the ground at this point. However, upon replacement my diy friend saw remnants of some sort of liquid (100% not oil or transmission). It is assumed to be coolant because mine wasn’t within range.
I will be making a trip to an actual shop to check it out, but any thoughts of what the liquid could actually be, and if it’s coolant does that mean I need to have it replaced entirely?
Also I want to know would there have been a leak because of the broken belt or did the belt break because of the leak?

So I've gotten a lot of support and helpful advice along with questions I thought I should clarify before I proceed with the update. Some asked why I'd be 'hiding' things from Alex regarding going out and who I'm meeting with. I don't, and I have nothing to hide. However when he begins to then double check everything I tell him with the other people there right down to each person I talked to and what I said. Did I send any text msgs, did I order food, how much did I eat, that's when it started to feel like I was slowly being pushed into a corner. Good news! My work has an opening I qualify for that will not only shift me across the country, but also comes with a salary increase as well. 2024.05.13 00:06 spark612 Belt drive commuter 700 to 650b gravel conversion, would it make sense?

Hi, I have a belt drive commuter bicycle, Marin Fairfax SC6 DLX is the exact model.
It has not been being used much since I moved out of Portland, and my wife has been recently getting into gravel bicycling. Now I'm trying to figure out if it would make sense to get a whole new bicycle or try to convert my current bicycle into 650b w/ wider tire. I'm not a serious cyclist by any mean, just wanna go out and have fun here and there.
The current wheel is Maddux SR500 with 700x32 tire. From my little research, it seems like 650x45-48 would be a safe conversion in terms of tire clearance.
Overall, would this conversion make sense to try based on my situation? If so, would it be better to get it done from the shop or something I can invest in some basic tools to DIY? Any input would be appreciated!
