PCE job switch: EMT or MA?
2024.06.09 22:40 QuietOldOakLimbs PCE job switch: EMT or MA?
I'm feeling burnt out at my ER tech job. These 12 hours shifts are exhausting, it's just nonstop running around and people screaming for hours. It also seems like I'm able to use my clinical skills less and less (i.e. fewer blood draws because more patients are getting IVs ordered, etc.). I have my EMT, but never worked on the bus. I think working on an ambulance would be cool, but a lot of the schools I want to go to have a really big emphasis on primary care. So I've been considering getting an MA job in a primary care clinic. Since I don't have an MA cert, I'd have to do an MA-registered license, which has a slightly smaller scope of practice. I'm worried this will mean that I'd have less clinical responsibilities. Pay is negligibly close between my current job and either other option. Pros and cons:
EMT:
- I'd probably be on a BLS-only bus in my city. They do some 911, but also a lot of IFT. Fire is also the first responder in my city, so most of the time they do most of the interventions and then hand off to the ambulance for transport.
- There's more room for growth I feel like. I could get additional certs, like for IVs, or I could look at paramedic school if I don't get into PA school this year.
- More experience directly managing patient care and giving/taking report.
- Emergency medicine is something I'm already super familiar with.
- Everyone hates working for AMR, but they're the only game in town.
MA:
- Primary care experience for PA school applications.
- Probably much less stress than emergency medicine
- Likely a lot more clerical duties
Anybody have any advice?

2024.06.09 22:28 No_Character_1416 switched tags and might be in trouble? help please
recently i went to goodwill to get pants and they were $17-19 so i switched the tags because i really need new pants but i couldn’t afford the prices they were selling them for. i got to the cash register and the cashier said the tags were wrong so she had to re tag them and then she comes back with the manager who said that they can’t sell them to me and they have to “investigate” this because it appears someone switched the tags. will i get in trouble if i come back and try to purchase the pants? do they really investigate this stuff? can they do anything about it? please let me know someone 😭

2024.06.09 21:37 okieape918 DFV and DRS
Someone correct me if I am wrong. But when our fellow ape went to HQ and checked the gme share holder ledger, DFV had 200,002 (pre split) directly registered. So this e*trade account he has shown is an entire new position made with the cash he had left over from 2021.
Honestly doesn't mean anything either way. But this thought just crossed my mind and thought it was notable.

2024.06.09 21:09 Equivalent-Dare9294 HELP /advice needed
so i got $26,000 on my 18thh birthday as an inheritance and i also sold my car so i had a good amount of money especially for just turning 18 imo but whenever my dad heard this his eyes grew big and i swear he got the dollar sign eyes like Mr. krabs and a cash register sound went off in his head bc that same day we went to rooms to go bc we were moving and he made me pay for a $3,000 couch that was not needed bc we had one already that worked just fine only thing was that it had dog hair which could've been fixed with a lint roller and then later that same week he asks me for $1,000 to pay his uncle money that he borrowed from him a couple months go by and his birthday comes around and he has me pay for it which is another $500 just for him to scream at me bc i accidentally gave him the wrong address to pick up the food and for him to say his party sucked and i also pay for his dogs to become ESA certified and also $600 for a moving truck ( we did not need to move he just out grew the apartment and did not like it) its been over a year and out of all the money he's paid me $20 which we came to an agreement he'd be paying me back with each paycheck he gets from his two jobs plus my husband and i live with him atm bc rent in Austin is insane so who knows what my dad is doing with an extra $475/ month. i got married last week and i paid for his suit even tho i had told him not to wear one bc it was a regular courthouse wedding but he threw a tantrum and did not speak to me until i got it for him. if i ever ask him for food from church fil a (one of his jobs) he gets mad and says my husband should buy it bc i decided to get married. i want to move bc i cannot look at him anymore bc of things that happened in my childhood and i get so irritated with him but i can't bc i don't have my money from over a year ago and I'm currently looking for work. what should I do?

2024.06.09 20:56 tacoDEassada Illinois out of state motorcycle registration
I bought a new ninja 500 from a dealership in Wisconsin, and im from Illinois. Im trying to register it here but I keep reading that I need the title. However, I don't have the title cause the bike is financed.
Has anyone from Illinois successfully registered a new bike they bought out of state without the title? Did it HAVE to be done at the secretary of state? Can I do it as a checks cashed?

2024.06.09 19:40 PlatinumRaptor95 POLICE
My father always wanted me to become a police officer. Who could blame him? His dad, who also happened to be my grandfather, was shot by a random man one day when my father was just 12 years old. He saw everything with his own eyes. It must’ve been traumatizing to him.
“My dad was just watering the plants.” He would often say, “Then a masked man in a white van rolled down his window and shot him out of nowhere.”
“His body fell to the ground and I quickly ran outside.” He’d continue, “Blood started coming out of the gunshot wound. I shouted as loud as I can until my mom arrived. My mom broke down in tears. My dad, with his last, dying breaths told me ‘Avenge my death, become a police officer, so no one else would have to endure the pain you’re feeling’.”
My father eventually did not become a police officer due to financial constraints. He ended up dropping out of high school a few years after my grandfather’s death. He started working in McDonald’s just to be able to have enough money to feed my grandmother. My grandmother at the time had dementia and had to resign from her job as an accountant because of it.
My father then met his future wife, who also happened to be my mother, in McDonald’s. No, my mother was not a McDonald’s employee, but they started talking when my mom lined up in front of the cashier my dad was stationed in to order a Big Mac and some fries. My father never told me what happened next. He always just told me that it was love at first sight and they started going out the following day. After a week, my dad left McDonald’s to apply for a job in the same place where my mom was working at the time, the KFC across the street.
My father’s dream to become a police officer was then transferred onto me. Even when I was still barely able to walk or talk, he would often tell me that I should become a police officer. At the time, I didn’t know what he meant. I don’t think newborns are familiar with the concept of a police officer. Despite that, I didn’t ask any questions. I eventually took up a Criminology program in college and graduated a year ago.
Sadly, before I graduated, my father developed dementia, just like my grandmother. He eventually forgot that I was taking up Criminology and for some reason thought I was a Formula One driver. He also forgot that he wanted me to become a police officer but my mom still encouraged me to become one. She kept telling me: “Your dad may not show it, but deep inside his original aspirations for you are still there.”
He passed away from Leukemia a few months ago. It’s such a shame that he’s not here today to hear this speech but I’m pretty sure he’s listening from wherever he is right now. Sorry dad, I am not a Formula One driver, but I just finished police academy and now I’m a legitimate police officer. Thank you.
“Nice speech, Ethan, congrats!” Carlisle, one of my closest friends, told me while I was going down the stage.
“Thanks, man.” I replied to him, “Not gonna lie, I was kinda nervous even if I practiced this speech for a month, but at least it’s done now”
“I would still be nervous if I were you. I heard you’ll be assigned to the Memphis Police Department.”
“Why would I be nervous?”
“Memphis has the highest crime rate in the country. It’s dangerous out there.”
“I’m literally the best young police officer the country has to offer. If I can’t do it then who can?”
“Well, that’s true. Just be safe out there, okay?” He said as he patted me on the back.
“I will don’t worry.”
After two days, I finally arrived in Memphis. I was greeted by the chief of the Memphis Police Department, Ryan McGruder.
“Mr. Ethan Blight?” He asked me.
“Yes, I am.” I replied as I shook his hand, “You must be Chief McGruder?”
“That’s correct. Come with me, let’s head to the station.”
The main headquarters of the Memphis Police Department was around 20 minutes away from the airport. I took this time to look around as it was my first time in Memphis.
“Are you scared?” Chief McGruder asked me.
“Scared of what?” I asked in return.
“I’m sure you know how dangerous Memphis is.”
“That doesn’t scare me too much. I know what I signed up for.”
“That’s good to hear.”
Once I arrived at the headquarters, I was greeted by a man and a woman who both seem to be in their mid-30s.
“This is Corporal Tommy Allen and Lieutenant Nesty Garland.” Chief McGruder said.
“I’m Ethan Blight.” I said as I shook their hands.
“You’ll be under Lieutenant Garland’s supervision for a few months” Chief McGruder followed, “She’s also supervising another fresh grad so I hope you all get along well.”
I followed Lieutenant Garland into her workstation. As soon as we got there, she introduced me to the other fresh grad she was supervising.
“This is Ryan Chambers. You’ll both be under my supervision for some time.” Lieutenant Garland said, “And I prefer to keep it casual here in my unit so there’s no need to say each other’s titles. That means you can just call me Nesty.”
Ryan stood up from his chair and shook my hand.
“I look forward to working with you, Ethan.” He said.
“Me too!”
After a few days of settling in, Ryan and I finally got to work on our first ever case. We were asked to investigate a robbery that occurred at a local appliance store. While on the way to the appliance store, he told me about a contest the police department has every year. It’s a contest which determines who the best police officer for the year is. The winner is chosen based off performance, effectiveness, and number of cases solved.
“Who are the frontrunners?” I asked.
“I heard Nesty has been good this year but I don’t think she’ll win.” Ryan replied, “I think Corporal Allen might win, he really wants that promotion.”
“You’re not supporting our own supervisor?”
“It’s not that I don’t like her, it’s just that Corporal Allen seems better.”
“In my opinion, I think Nesty would win. I’ve seen Corporal Allen a lot but Nesty just has different aura, you know? She’s very passionate and assertive especially in the office place.”
“Corporal Allen has solved more cases this year than her. I think the number is twice as more.”
“It’s not always about the quantity.” I replied, “I think whoever solves the current case with the wanted drug dealer gets the award.”
“I heard that Corporal Allen is already preparing to take on that case. Haven’t heard anything from Nesty’s side yet.”
“We’ll see, I still feel like Nesty should win.”
After a few minutes of driving, we got to the appliance store. Outside the store was the manager who was waiting for us.
“Can you tell us what happened here?” I asked the manager.
“A man just suddenly entered the store and pointed a gun towards one of our employees.” The manager said, “He asked for all the money in the cash register and we had no choice but to comply.”
“How much did he get?”
“Around $8000.”
“Do you have a recording of the incident?” Ryan asked.
“Yes, come with me.”
The manager led us to the back and showed us the recording of the robbery. The suspect wasn’t wearing a mask which is kinda stupid if you ask me but it makes our jobs easier.
“Can you zoom in on his face?” I asked.
The manager then proceeded to pause the recording to zoom in.
“Doesn’t that look like that drug dealer we were talking about earlier?” Ryan asked me.
“You know what, I think you’re right.” I replied, “So do you think these cases are connected?”
“Maybe he needed the money to buy more drugs.” Ryan said, “Wait, I have an idea. What if we solve this case ourselves and maybe, just maybe, they give us the award.”
“I just started this week, no way they give me the award.”
“I guess it’s gonna be me then.” Ryan chuckled.
“I doubt it, and besides, I’m pretty sure Nesty is already on her way to solve the case.”
“What do you mean Nesty? I’m sure it’s Corporal Allen who’s on the way.”
“Fine, how about let’s just find out ourselves. Sir, do you know which way the suspect went?” I asked the manager.
“Aside from the money, he also happened to steal one of our high-end laptops. That laptop was just used in a live demo earlier today and it conveniently has GPS that we’re tracking right now.” The manager said, as he pulled out his phone, “He’s about 5 kilometers east of us right now and it seems that he isn’t moving.”
Ryan and I both rushed into the car and drove to his location as fast as we can. We asked the manager if we could borrow the phone that he was using to track the laptop so we can find the suspect easier. After a few minutes of driving, we arrived at a warehouse where we think the suspect is hiding. Outside the warehouse was a car which we think belongs to the suspect. We busted open the car’s trunk and saw a bag full of cash and a brand-new laptop.
“Yup, I think this is his.” I said, “He must be inside the warehouse then.”
“So, what are we waiting for?” Ryan replied.
We rushed towards the warehouse and tried to find a way in. The front door was locked so we went around to look for any open windows. We found one window which we think we can fit through but as soon as we were climbing up to reach it, we heard gunshots. We climbed up faster to see what was going on and once we got inside, we saw a man whose legs were bleeding from a gunshot wound.
“That looks like the suspect, right?” I asked.
“I think so.” Ryan answered, “But who shot him?”
We looked around then suddenly I saw a figure holding a gun at the suspect.
“There!” I shouted, “It’s a police officer.”
The figure slowly walked towards the wounded suspect. As it walked closer, sunlight coming down from the ceiling revealed who their true identity.
“I don’t believe it.” Ryan said, “Is that Nesty?”
I took a closer look and he was right. It was Nesty. I looked towards Ryan and shouted: “Ha! Nesty is the best police, see?”

2024.06.09 19:26 Legitimate_Way1609 Florida Lease Buyout - Toyota
I have a ‘21 Corolla Hybrid I want to buy in cash now that the lease is ending. Toyota Financial said it has to be done through a dealership in Florida. Been to numerous dealerships in Florida and all charge fees that Toyota Financial would not ($2000+!) Recently moved from NJ (parents still live there). Can I register the garage address on Toyota Financial’s website to my parent’s house in NJ so I can just deal with them directly? I really cannot stand dealing with the dealerships anymore, it’s super frustrating. I just want to pay Toyota Financial directly so I can have my car for the residual amount on my contract.

2024.06.09 19:03 Available-Page-2738 Theory: DB Cooper (and accomplice) used radio signals from Portland-area stations.
I start from the premise that DBC knew what he was doing. I also think that he had an accomplice, who was 15 to 20 years younger (either a son or a nephew, just barely possibly a boyfriend). And that they took the money and held on to it for about a year or two and spent it slowly (banks and casinos have admitted that back before computers, they simply didn't have the manpower to carry out such searches for more than a few weeks. After six months, no one was checking those lists anymore).
DBC had the plane expertise. He knew how to parachute. He had survival training. Probably some electronics expertise. I suspect his accomplice had the procedural knowledge from a law enforcement angle. Maybe a failed FBI applicant. Or someone who washed out of training. He'd know procedure, so he'd know the money would be "safe" after about two years. And in the early 1970s, there'd still be lots of ways to pass the currency with no one being caught on camera. A bill's lifespan is about 18 months. Before computers, it would have been a million-to-one shot. Ten thousand bills amid, what, a billion of them in circulation? It would take a long time, but you could easily pass 10 bills a day each. Hit a supermarket, buy a candy bar, get $19.75 back. Buy a paperback for 75 cents. High-volume places where people don't have time to check bills and have lots of cash in the registers. Keep on the move. Change up the route. Drive across the country. Keep an ear open. Accomplice might hear from friends if the DBC money is being spent. It would take about 18 months. If you kept the conversion cost low, you could easily still clear $180,000.
For the electronics enthusiasts out there. In the late 1960s/early 1970s, could a "hobbyist" build something that would fit into a briefcase that would allow them to triangulate known-strength radio signals? E.g., if KABC's transmitter four miles east of Portland broadcasts at n watts and KXYZ's transmitter, eight miles north of Castle Rock, broadcasts at m watts, could that hobbyist build a briefcase-sized something that would allow them to calculate a preset jump point -- and also make the components look like a dynamite-stick bomb?
For the topography/geography enthusiasts out there. Back in 2019, a break-in at a store in Heisson, Washington, that occurred shortly after the hijacking was made public knowledge. The burglar took only survival items (gloves and beef jerky are mentioned). I wonder if he also grabbed some plastic bags/a cooler and a small shovel. Could DBC have landed near Heisson (possibly losing some of the bundles into a nearby river that connected up to the waterways that would have led to the Teva Bar) and realized he was miles away, and buried the cash to make it easier to travel/prevent being caught with it?
For the parachutists out there. Would a 1970s highway be visible at night from 10,000 feet? Looking at Heisson on a map, the closest landmark appears to be the triangle of Rt. 14 and the highways 5 and 205. If DBC could get a good visual of the highways, he could have aimed for the triangle. It's not even five miles from any one interior corner to the center. An accomplice could simply drive the perimeter, pause at each intersection, at a landmark, and wait for DBC to come out of hiding. If DBC got blown off course, he was still withing 10 miles of the 5/205 intersection.
Why is the accomplice younger? DBC is almost certainly dead now, if he survived the jump. A comparably aged accomplice would also probably be dead by now. Usually, men do not form very deep trusting relationships with people outside of their immediate age cohort. The only three major exceptions to this that I can think of are situations involving consanguinity, warfare, and sexual relationships. A commanding officer and a younger soldier could develop a deep respect and father-son affinity for each other. An actual father and son (or uncle and son, or older brother and much younger brother) can do this also. And, of course, some 35-year-old and a 20-something who start a romantic relationship could also develop that sort of deep commitment to each other. So I assume that somewhere out there is someone in his 70s, who has a manuscript sitting in a bank vault. And when that guy dies, we'll all be in for a hell of a surprise.
tl;dr -- I suspect DBC used an electronic rangefinder of some sort to help him aim for the 14/5/205 triangle when he jumped. He missed, landed near a small town called Heisson with a parachute full of just over 22 lbs. of $20 bills, broke into a store, buried the money, and hoofed it to a prearranged pickup with an accomplice. Then went off for Thanksgiving with whoever to establish a plausible alibi, then went back to get the loot and slowly reintroduced it into circulation with no one spotting in because most people simply didn't bother checking serial numbers after a few months.
